"And it's just the coaching hires have been questionable. Roster. Construction has been questionable. The quarterbacks have been disgraceful. It's a really it's tough because the Broncos fans are not used to five years of dreck. And that's what they've got. And frankly, I don't think it's gonna be much better this year. Considering that the debate is Teddy Bridgewater or drew lock. I mean, if they're above 500 team, it's it's probably a win. They're certainly not winning that division with the Chiefs. They don't have the upside of the of the Chargers. I mean, are they better than the Raiders? Maybe Are they the third best team of that division? Juarez? I think they're the fourth best team in that division. It feels like we're just waiting for the defense to continue to be the defensive 10 years ago. Now, I mean, von Miller ain't getting any younger. We've barely seen him for the last two years. A lot of weapons, but nothing else. They drafted and developed really good weapon to the skill positions. But if you don't have a quarterback, what does it matter? Defense has been average and frankly, I think the coaching has been below average since Kubiak left. I mean, Vance, Joseph and.

Dating at a Distance
"Should PEOPLE STILL DATE? Everything is aligned. Date no no no no blind date center definitely not but even before this tender. I'm kidding that was mean on the late show with Stephen Colbert. A month ago before most of the country was staying at home at the time. A conversation about dating during a pandemic may have felt like late night comedy fair. You know Stephen. Everything in life is is a risk reward. Proposition is riskier to do things versus before. Perhaps being in close contact with somebody especially somebody. You don't know Is Is. It's a different time right now. But as their new reality has evolved so as the act of finding love people are using dating apps more both tender and bumble have reported an increase in daily messages and user engagement. Other APPS had a video chat feature and some people are reaching out in ways I would have never imagined a look out my windows. Bill dancing traps to take and needed to say here down. She waved back. That's the start of the story you may have heard before. It's from a video on Tick Tock by Jeremy Cohen a photographer from Brooklyn New York. After Jeremy Waves to the dancing girl he flies his drone over with his cell phone number. She picked up my job and I guess it works. 'cause I our lady's Jeremy's video went viral if we're still allowed to say that it has over thirty million views on talk now. I'm not at all surprised. It's the meet cute of our time if our time is defined by isolation and physical distancing Jeremy and Tori Cigna Rela. She's the girl on the roof have gone on a few dates after that. Here's Jeremy and Tori. The first date was we had dinner. There was another restaurant she is on her roof and I was on my balcony. It was so funny because we'd be talking to other on facetime and then sometimes I like look over like I'd see him there and then we'd look at each other. It was like such a weird scenario lovely on another date. Jeremy win inside a huge plastic bubble so he could take a walk. I just couldn't stop laughing. I like hit the ground. Basically I was not expecting to see him in a bubble. It's a lot more effort to go through than your average date and it's hard to express the usual social and physical cues when you're six feet apart but there things about this new normal that for Jeremy Cohen. Surprisingly work well. It's really nice to get to know her. Just not have any of this pressure at the end of the day like okay. Am I going home or am I gonNA invite her back to my place? This awkward moment of okay. What what is the other person thinking? I don't WANNA be too forward but I also don't want to be a scaredy cat. Jeremy isn't immune to the loneliness of social distancing of not actually being physically around someone even though he's found this new connection I am in my apartment either remained but he's with his family in Minnesota. So I'm alone in this two bedroom apartment for about a month. Now it makes me realize how much the small things in life such as a hub. Like hug skill great. I've actually putting myself a couple of times. It doesn't feel the same because it isn't the same. There's a lot of research that shows. That physical touch is important for health and wellbeing. One behavior that we have focused on in some of our research is interpersonal touch or affectionate touch. We've shown that touch has powerful effects on our physical. Health are mental health. Our relationship health. That's Professor Brooke Fini. She's a social psychologist at Carnegie Mellon University. She studies how relationships impact our health throughout our entire lives. It increases feelings of security so it just makes people feel more secure. It increases people's willingness to embrace life opportunities affectionate touch has been associated with lower daily stress lower reactivity to stress A lower likelihood of even perceiving something as stressful in the first place for Professor Feeney affectionate touch has benefits even above and beyond sexual intimacy. Which is something else were missing in? A time of isolation can engage in sexual intimacy for a variety of reasons that have to do with reproduction and drives and less to do with communicating care and acceptance and love and value. And so on. They're both important forms of touch and Communicate very important information to significant others But we think they are very different types of processes hearing about all the benefits of touch at a time when a lot of people are deprived of. It isn't exactly comforting. So what happens when we do lose it in our everyday lives? Here's Professor Brittany Kubiak. Who Studies affectionate touch in romantic relationships? Children form attachments with their caregivers in a lot of ways through touch and in adulthood we think that some of the same processes happens you form an attachment to your romantic partner just like you form attachment to your parents. Although the relationship is obviously different long-term not having the ability to touch. I think there's the possibility that you may not be able to form as secure attachment to that person but Professor Jacoby Act doesn't want to overstate the benefits of touch. Either it is still possible to have meaningful connections with each other without it. We know that people maintain very satisfying long distance relationships. Even when there's not a pandemic going on people do things reminiscing about times that they did spend together or planning times that they will spend together and so I think we can find ways at least if this is going to be a somewhat short term separation to make sure that we're maintaining high quality relationships even through physical distance for Professor Feeney. There is a positive outcome at least in terms of human connection about the fact that this is all happening to us together our rates of loneliness and social isolation even before they pandemic had been increasing and people have just been feeling more relational disconnected across the board. One positive thing that I think has come out of this. Pandemic is that people first of all are all in this together. You know so. We're now all part of a big group of people who all this happening to them. When people are facing adversity together they usually reach out to each other more and try to connect stance. Oh I do see one positive side effective at this is that there are these more creative ways that people are trying to connect and help each other out and so on like Jeremy and Tori and whether or not they do end up together doesn't even matter to them anymore. We're absolutely going to meet up. Probably something a little bit more low key like drinks but definitely still could never forget it honestly no matter what happens between us like we're going to remain friends like there's nothing like this that doesn't bond to people and said it's just like look if he's not like in my wedding he'll be at my wedding like that's. I certain that's a powerful connection. Now there was a study from Harvard. That came out this week. Saying we might have to prolong intermittent social distancing measures. Up until two thousand twenty. Two professor. Feeney doesn't know what that means for physical and mental health. No one does she and a team of researchers at Carnegie Mellon are just about to begin a study on this if we don't find these other creative ways to connect It remains to be seen. How well We can continue to abuse remote connections as a proxy for the more physical connections but I think the the core issue that underlies it all is. What touched communicates and so I think what we have to do. During the pandemic is just find other ways to communicate to our loved ones that were available to them if they need us even though we can't be physically proximal to them right now and might be more difficult to communicate that remotely but I think we can do it. Human beings are social creatures by nature. We crave connection. We're not meant to be isolated. These days. Some people might not have the security that comes from physical touch. But that's not all our relationship is built on find those other connections and lean on them. I think you'll be surprised by how strongly though resonate in your life.

"Aw. That delimit opens up more. So anybody who say that is I don't know. I think they're polish, and they don't know anything about football. Oh, that's a real shame because I'm sure someone's gonna find some article I wrote him like two thousand nine when I was a little bit more aggressive limitless. My even play Gary kubiak got at go. What a dumb them and. Now, I'm gonna win with the hottest takes. So that I could ensure that people could find all this. I mean there are. I think we oversimplify generalists football fans and just people we try to over simplify everything. So it's like if they aren't scoring or if they aren't winning. Maybe it's it has to be one thing that the coach thinks or the quarterback stinks. But you know, how complex this game is how many different factors go into how play would result. And then how the result of a game? And so I think that it's possible that people could fail running that to them. But it doesn't mean it was broken. Acerra? So I'm going to get to the Super Bowl context for this second. But just in terms of what you said makes total sense to me. I agree with you one hundred percent when you hear people talk about McVeigh so frequently it's it's not about the scheme. It's on about his play calling. It's not necessarily the genius more. Just t- smart because he gets everything to look similar. He adds flourishes to things that might have been something you saw previously in culture there were so strong. And yet we see teams around the league who are going out and hiring someone like Kingsbury, for example in Arizona who again, it's too early to say, we don't know how he's going to do. But the reason he's getting hired is because realistically he is someone who is an offensive mind has had some success scheming stuff up for guys like Patrick Mahomes in college with sectarian who's gonna take over and Cincinnati someone who did not have reputations. As a someone who is going to be a head coach for awhile and someone who of courses Jason to Sean McVay now. In Los Angeles has quarterbacks coach there. I mean, you know, do you think teams are seeing the wrong thing? And if so why do you think they're getting blinded by scheme when it's about the other stuff? Yeah. I think they are seeing the wrong thing. And I think to be honest. They don't know what the characteristics are to be successful coats. And I think to be fair there. There are a lot of different ways to be at head coach and be good at it. So I think they are just hoping and guessing and hoping that they can catch lightning in a bottle and.

"A quarterback. Many shadows form yourself you knew that bad this year. Denver Baio now. Is defense. Gordon? He's six years old, by the way. I thought they were going to hire. Gary kubiak who's on my show last year? I thought they were good IRA AM. They didn't. And yet anyway, the he had to step down for health reasons that I saw him at the hall of fame. I saw there. And then he agreed to come on the show, which he did a nice time. He was on for an hour. Did a good job. Of course, he was a great quarterback. He was a backup. To John Elway. And then he got the job from Elway. Super Bowl now. The next step down, health reasons and all that. And they've had problems the coaches ever since. He's available now. Komo kubiak, man. I hope his health is. Okay. Look fine. What I saw him. You mentioned his health on the show, and he didn't mention. I don't know what happened. Know what happened on that? So you were talking about the giants pass the next goal would be my one pick was. Yes. Well, how about so you're thinking that you don't think they should draft Dwayne Haskins out of Ohio State, or do you think they should draft him and signed Nick foles and have a bit of a quarterback competition? I don't want controversy there. Right. I think you draft guide number one right there. He's got to step in and play. But if you get he's approval quarterback Haskins not approve quarterback doesn't run. Well. And he's a great arm. I love I love Haskins. But. I would think the one that. I would take the giants because they've got they've got to let manning go. They've got to let them go or keep his backup. As far as anybody else's concerned. Let's see who will. Let's let's look and see what else we can see here that you hit me with a ton of bricks on that one wasn't prepared prepare myself now. But I think that. Nothing in this division in the lines division. There's no nobody's going to. Dallas is going to make a change. Although I'm a surprise Lenihan go because what I heard a couple of weeks before he was coming back and all of a sudden, he's gone. There's a lot of teams that to make the playoffs. That's been looking for quarterback. And this is not a good quarterback draft. So yeah, you got a couple of it could be picked. But. I think you're going to see them get a bundle for him. And. You're not going to keep him as a backup quarterback. He doesn't deserve to be backup quarterback. However, if you're committed to wins. That's it. You're not going to pay twenty million dollars true backup. Anyway, even if he was willing to he wants to start he should.

And he's been really well thought for a long time in the league. And John Elway. The Broncos went in a different direction. You know? We don't really have a franchise quarterback. Why not? Upbringing a defensive guy really establish a defense again. Like, let's go that direction and try and find an offensive coordinator to work with case keenum until we figure out what the hell we're going to do long term quarterback. I like Vic Fangio a great job in Chicago really maximize at Kenya's great coordinator. Whether he's a great head coach, I have no idea. But then all of a sudden Gary kubiak snake research, and Gary kubiak who had a front office position with the Denver Broncos was then being rumored as the guy who is going to be the offensive coordinator. Denver now, Gary kubiak is not going to be the offense coordinator in Denver because there were quote philosophical differences on what kind of offense. And apparently, he's no longer a member of the organization either. Gary kubiak went from front office position and a Super Bowl winning head coach and the Broncos to potentially be offensive coordinator to no longer needed within the organization at all. And something didn't add up. Gary kubiak walked away from the Broncos as head coach everybody pointing to his house. But I always thought there was more to it. Gary kubiak look at the roster. And I think somewhere inside of me said, you know, what we don't have the quarterback. This is gonna get ugly in a hurry. And I don't want this on my resume. I think John Elway was still pissed off. Gary kubiak walked out a year. Plus after they want a Super Bowl. That's what I think you can podcast all of our shows by searching, Fox Sports radio. "Fangio this is interesting quote here from Jake plumber. Former Denver Broncos quarterback on Gary kubiak returning to the offense. And what that means for case keenum and the others. He said cougs is gonna coach these kids on how to be better. I know he took me and made me learn more about football than I knew at the time coming in after six years in the league, he made sure I took care of business. Think about that. Plummer was quarterback for six years in the NFL. And once kubiak got a hold of him. He made them that much better to get endorsed Eckermann endorsement right there. And so as you said earlier, Dave if you just tuned in Dave made the point that kubiak in kubiak probably feels this too that he can get more out of case keenum than we saw last year. No, I don't I don't think there's any question that he thinks that whether or not that's true. I think remains to be seen. I I would bet on Gary in that regard. And I want to say one thing about Gary before we get back to the phone lines. We have to to folks online. I think that sometimes because Gary's demeanor in the press and just in public in general, it's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet right has the time for you sit on talk to you, very congenial. Trust me when I tell you. He has no problem. Standing up in front of a room or sitting down watching tape and getting after guys he has got that ability. I had seen it. I've heard it. And that will not be an issue. So don't don't get it twisted because Gary. Gives off this real soft sort of almost cuddly persona about gosh, isn't Gary kubiak, just a really good guy. And he's just friends with John Elway. And he's sort of like, oh, buddy discourse in it. Yeah. Okay. All that's true. The Gary's an excellent football coach. And I think the players are going to be better for having him as the offense coordinator. That's very interesting. I didn't realize that I I just know him as a really nice guy cure. I mean, most people do. Yeah. I wasn't around the teat. Well, the two years I've been doing the games with you. Dave kubiak wasn't here. That's correct. I wasn't around him. Like you were. And I just know he's a good, dude. There's plenty of there is absolutely plenty of bite with Gary. But it's it's done the right way. It's done in a way that after it's done walk up put his arm around the player in walk off the practice field. And it's it's good. Because you player knows. Hey, he's got my best interest at heart. Right. I might hate you right now. But I know you're trying to get the best outta me that to me that's one of the really important qualities of good coach. How do you relate to your guys? And how do you get the best out? How do you challenge them? And will they allow you to coach them hard? And then you're going to get better at the answer to that is. Yes in some of these guys. I'm I'm telling you not only here in Denver. But around the league, some of these guys, you know, they need to check themselves in terms of, you know, being disrespected, and I am not a let a coach talk to you know, what shut up and let them coach you and try to make you better. Now all can. But I mean, just let them try to make you better the team's going to get better. You're going to get better. You're gonna make more money. What are you looking for? That's that's what you wanna do. Yeah. I think it's important that the players have that respect for the guy that's coaching them. Yeah. Let them coach let them coach hard from what we heard from Chicago Bears players. They have that. Respect for Fangio as well. Yeah. They they think he's Ben tastic earns of mind you earned the respect of players when when the players can defy entrust me you can't fool players when they can identify. You know, what dude knows what he's talking about that dues legit? What he brings his legit. He's going to help us get better. That's what new coaches and old coaches are coming back. That's what they have to convey to those players. But I mean, if I stopped to think about how many times in my career in the NFL, some a coach said something to me that. Yeah. I wanted to react to to lash back at I had one. Coach who I will not name who. I I'm quite certain didn't like me, and I didn't like him. And I wanted to punch this coach in the face. I just wanted to punch him in the face. He was so dismissive. And at least that's how I took it. He didn't like me. He didn't respect my game. This was at the end of my career in Cleveland the ninth year. I was there. And I wanted to I wanted to grab him by the neck and strangle him not kill him. But just strangled. But you know, what? I didn't. So you held back. These guys let let let these guys coach mammy let them coach you good point. Let's see if we can get some calls in here, we go to Michael. Hello, michael. You're on KOA. That's kind of where I'm saying. That was that was awesome. Do. Thank you. I think case keenum kubiak is appropriate for case keenum. Firearm up getting running right? And that's that's the way it should be. And then the B O line get your line going. So we can get. Oh, damn I forgot his name. Both. Running battles Lindsey. Yeah. Yeah. You got to get that all lined up. So they can get their most. I mean, you don't need a little bitty are big hole. But he needs something. No. Absolutely, michael. Thanks. Appreciate the call. One more Tom, and we'll get a traffic break here. Coming up, Tom. What's up? Yeah. Hi, thanks for taking my call. It just a quick follow up on Gary kubiak. So since he was the head coach. Now kind of hand picked to be the offense coordinator. How does that kind of you talk looted to it? So how is it the dynamics between him and Vick who's coming into the head coach how you see that playing out. I think that the Broncos could not have a better guy to be the coordinator having had head coaching experience in this organization. Gary is a really good at reading the room and being a soldier, and you know, allowing Vic Fangio to be the head coach and allowing Vic to sort of put his stamp on the team. I think Jerry will be used in terms of at times any advice that he might have that would help Vic Fangio, but Gary's ego is firmly in check in my mind, and I think Vic Fangio can. Feel very comfortable that hey, I don't have a guy that is the former head coach of the Broncos that really wants to sort of establish his turf, I've got a guy that yes was the head coach of the Broncos. But as a willing participant in trying to get this thing turned around. I think those two will have not one issue in terms of working together at least from the from the idea that kubiak with supersede Fangio with with sort of how he conducted himself. Okay. Thank you a great job. Thank you. Tom. Traffic check Joel.

"Will turn on you fast. Right and end, my my whole point about that is if they're getting kubiak as OC because of case keenum who only has one more year left on his deal if they're hiring Fangio to improve the defense now Fangio has had the ability to build up defenses. So maybe he's a longer term play. But I don't see kubiak sticky round forever. I see this is a very much a twenty nineteen move. So my thought would be they won't trade von Miller, they won't look to trade any of their main pieces, and they may not even opt for quarterback because an Ed Oliver or Josh Allen or somebody like that can help them win in in twenty nine thousand nine. I don't know if that's the right move. For the wrong move. I don't love anybody in this draft at the quarterback position. But the catch twenty two you find yourself in is if this team is at all decent next year. You're not game be even close to drafting Herbert or to the following year. So it's like. It looks like they wanna go somewhere else and get another Bradley Chubb another guy that will help them win as a rookie. But then at the same time wins the next time. They're going to be in position to draft a number ten I think we find out. I think we get an inkling even know, you know, drafting and stuff probably won't come up that much. But I just listening to Fangio tomorrow. I feel like we're gonna get a little insight and listening to Elway. We might be able to glean whether this is this is about twenty nineteen or about the next two or three years and going back to the quarterback scenario. You know, listen kubiak, kubiak keenum is only guaranteed next year. And that. I don't even know guaranteed. If he starts if if kubiak can't even revive him. "Because like when I when I came in was drafted and you obviously, you need to have an ego from that perspective, but you joked on people like job on people, but I get, I get how sometimes I could be viewed as arrogant because like I don't care the ramifications, but you do it in a way that's really like you bring people together. I always always. Yeah. With the trainers had Larry's relationship trainers grow on my God. Yeah. Yeah. I just try to lighten it up and it's one of those things that it's such a stressful work environment. We have to enjoy. We have to enjoy in some sense or formative, and it was just it could be very uptight at times so much on the line, you know, but the same time we are planning game Sunday, we love to do. We're going to do a lot of the things that we don't enjoy doing. I was very grateful for that opportunity and truly loved coming in San. You guys seeing the trainers and having a genuine relationship with that passionate about, and that's why that's why I always appreciate it. Was you act? You could tell you cared. You can tell that you loved, you did and you and you brought like I said, that humor day humor helped me because what I I gotta tell you. It's funny story when I first got there, I was. I don't know if I told you I was. I was I was like, I, I don't talk that. Like when I first enter a situation, I don't talk. Yeah, I saw I'm sue. I, I don't know these people. They don't know me. So I just I just kind of played the back and kind of observed things, but I saw how lighthearted you were. But this is a funny part when. We like midway through training camp and I was a rookie. And you could. You could tell that was, okay, he, he's, he's a ball. He's not some guy that might not be around Mike, you know, even though I was on a bubble, you can talk a play. So. Kube pulled me into his office, Rick, Rick, Rick Smith. The general manager pulled me into his office and he says, hey, man, you know a lot of guys feel you. You need to loosen up a little bit too uptight at Mike. Okay, I can do that. So then I came in, I was like, okay, let me be mailed a bit more. I started joking. I started clown. I was being media a week later coup, Gary kubiak calls me. Hey, man. A lot of guys think that you, you don't take this very seriously job to know. No. I mean, it is normal. You know, you come in as a rookie and there's just you're all you truly are an of talent. The maturity of the guys how far head they're in their life. They are and just, you know how grown they are and all you wanna do is a make the team and be fit in Hon of, you know, it is a true fraternity of of men really that you wanna be a part of. Yeah. And you know, lasting you wanna do is come in cocky, overconfident and get label that, right. So I understand where you come from, and I had a lot of that too, and it takes time it takes easy for you though because you came in with like, I that that stigma of when you're on the field. Shit doesn't matter when you're not, but when you're off to fill in matters, I first round second round around that was always fun. I was always funny to me that kind of. It's a label people place on you when you first get in. But what I noticed is as veteran, it doesn't matter when you first come in, it does. It's, it's it's no one cared in your third or fourth year that you are on nobody cared. No one cared. I absolutely it's about that time of where you develop in your career and what you can do for the team is what you're judged upon. And that's, that's all the respect in the world and what you're going to get in what you aren't football is back college football started Sunday..

"Exactly he's got with the knee so would you expect that rosen is a guy who would come in and win that job immediately i think if he's close you gotta give it to them because if the jets this is part of a three year building prostitute prospect you know you've got if you've got a rookie coming now then you can have him play the whole year then next year you have all of that salary cap money that you can build around the quarterback so it would be ideal for him to win their job and that leaves us with baker mayfield who is the most intriguing and perhaps controversial of the four quarterbacks they were all of these reasons not to like him from the off the field stuff to his lack of height and others but then you watch him play and he is dynamic so what do you think listen here's one thing i'll say about the situation in denver gary kubiak is a consultant with the denver broncos kubiak known for ryan the west coast concept and with the west coast you know what it talks about is a quarterback movement skills you've gotta be able to roll out you gotta be accurate those are the things that bake millfield does probably better than any of these guys in address so if baker mayfield finds himself available at number five i think the denver broncos with jump all over that and be interesting because they use a first round pick on paxton lynch not long ago obviously they're giving up on that they went out and they signed keenum as we mentioned earlier so you would have a chance for mayfield to sit and watch and learn so we'll see how that turns out all right nfl draft just two weeks away and we are getting ready for it meanwhile we have a lot more coming up this morning on get up including a conversation about the evil empire and guess what not the team you think it that's coming up this is ghetto.
