Rep. Banks Says Pelosi Must Answer Questions About Capitol Security

"Nancy pelosi has broken a few norms by kicking you off the kangaroo commission for the ridiculous january sixth thing what are you guys going to do exactly the kind of vengeance. It's necessary to deter this kind of norm destruction in the future. Well that's a great question for first and foremost where we're going to have a press conference here about a half an hour. The group that she or that that kevin mccarthy rather appointed to serve on the committee that she rejected as you said this has never happened before completely unprecedented in congressional history for the leader of one party to reject the appointments to a select committee from the other parties. So i suppose. I'll be an asterik in history when it comes to that but as far as the as far as the topic at hand the reason that nancy pelosi targeted a rejected me and jim jordan because we were beginning to ask the questions this she did not want this committee to head toward answering. What questions on am i talking about. Specifically about why. The united states capitol was vulnerable on january. Six to begin with when there was intelligence report three weeks before january six that told the told the capitol police that something was going to happen that day. Why why did the leadership of the capitol. Police failed to act on that intelligence. And and why didn't they do anything about it. But by the way when you look at the leadership structure of the united states capitol and the oversight of the of the united states capitol police. The speaker of the house says more authority than anybody. So all of this happened on nancy. Pelosi's watch and and those are the questions. Jim jordan and i started asking about about those vulnerabilities why nothing was done about it and those are questions. That clearly doesn't want to doesn't want to answer.

"Fraud. Why the green New deal is even worse than you think. Mark Murano is the author of the bestselling author of the Politically Incorrect Guide to Climate Change Forwards. By Marc Stein. Mark. You've been around this world for a while. Most Americans, you know, they're trying to live their lives. They care about the environment. You know, we we all we all care about these things. What is it that has made folks like AOC just You know, speed off of the cliff because some of the things that they're suggesting everyone knows it's crazy. So who's buying into this? How is it that Biden is buying into this? Well, it's become a mantra of a progressive Democratic party. You have to be all in on the climate agenda. It's there's no There's no way any major Democratic candidate for president and he, senator Congressman could ever dissent on this. This isn't the old days. The 30 years ago, you had the pro life Democrats on this. There's no There's no big tent on climate or energy on the Democratic Party, so they're all in lockstep and the most devastating thing about this is during Trump's 2019 the 2nd 3rd year in the second year of Trump's presidency with his policies we achieve for the first time since 1952 When Harry S. Truman was president, American energy dominance, more energy exports than imports, more energy, less energy consumption and production. In other words, we were producing more. We were the world's largest oil and gas producer, We were booming, no more need for endless wars in the Middle East. No more need for oil from Venezuela, the Middle East. No, no way to rely on Russia don't have to rely on it now because the green new deal solar panel windmills and electric car batteries, we're going to be relying on Chinese rare earth mining, using slave labor in China and also human rights violations of Chinese own minds. In Africa. It's a lose lose lose all the way across to America, which makes it a love love love for the progressive agenda because it harms America and this is what The lockdown was nothing but a government enforced recession depression and this is where they want to go forward with the climate. They actually call for planned recessions to fight global warming planned Recession to keep them to keep emissions down. Yes, this is I mean, Look, it's in the book we ever if if we ever wanted a picture Of fundamentally anti American government and others who are talking about not we, the people, but we're talking about a coterie of globalist oligarchs. Determining policy for everyone. How is this even possible that we could care about what's going on at Devil's or in the minds of some of these? Is out of touch Zillionaires or Greta Thunberg. God bless her. I feel sorry for that young woman. She's being used by by her elders. How How does it Happen. I guess that we don't have more robust pushback from conservatives in the United States, Senate and Congress. Uh, you're getting here. That's a sore subject just last month in May or I guess two months ago now, may of 2021 the Republican leadership in the house, led by Kevin McCarthy. These are are these are the people standing between fascism and socialism and Marxism being opposed? You know what their message on climate was? Eric Climate change is a problem. And we need a solution but degree basically, the green new deal has gone too far. We're going to be supporting carbon capture and we're going to plant trees and we're all this mealy malley Green New Deal Light Nonsense. This is who we have on Capitol Hill fighting the greatest threat to our liberty today. Next to Covid Kevin McCarthy is going to get thrown out. On his tour. I hope so. Oh, my God. Listen, the idea that some of these folks are Theoretically, our leaders ostensibly, technically our leaders, they need to be thrown out. We need people willing to speak the truth who really care about the little guy? We don't have them in Washington. I mean, we've got a handful of them. But when I hear about people like Kevin McCarthy and these others, they really, um I would say. Ultimately, they're responsible. I can't blame AOC. She's you know. Curtis Lee Curtis Lee. What calls her all out crazy. I can hardly blame her. She's a kid. She I don't know what she's doing. I blame Any Republicans who don't stand up to this with everything that's in them. They are the ones that should be targeted. Uh, they should be primaried. They are destroying this nation. They are destroying the nation that the last line of defense and they're cowards. I've always said my problem isn't with AOC or the Chuck Schumer's of the Joe Biden are problems with the people who are supposed to be defending the side of science and freedom and its Republican Party, and I worked in the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee during Obama's first term, and I saw firsthand where you know Republican senators from you know from, uh, the Midwest. Well, we don't want to be seen as against the environment. We're not going to challenge any of the scientist. We're just going to say it costs too much, and I was like, Wait a minute. So you're telling me People are saying we face an existential threat. We're doomed. But Republicans answer to that is no, we don't your bastardized the science and I mean that is well, it just costs too much. So we face doom. We're all going to die. But you know the solutions to way we can't do anything. No, you go after it. And you say you go after the entire premise number one. You don't see the narrative, and you show that even if we face the climate catastrophe, the green new deal would mean we're all doomed. We would all be dead. If we actually face it. You would do the opposite of what the green new deal calls for. You would not want a top down. Marxist plan that regulated every aspect. You would want the opposite free market innovation, technological advancement and economic growth. The wealthiest economies have the cleanest environment, so it's exactly opposite. Instead, Republicans climate change of the problem and we need we're going to address it, too, and we're not going to be as heavy handed. By the way, that was that was a creepy impression of Mitch McConnell. I don't know how you do that. I don't know how you even did that. Uh, that was creepy man. That was frank abortion level impression of Mitch McConnell. But my point I hate Republicans in Washington. Right now. We are not led by anyone who's going to help us fight any of these battles. I'm sorry. Our leadership there is. There's a lot of great Congressman and I used to work for center in on. There's some great senators. But they're not in the leadership Sadly. Well, um, I just want to say, throw the bums out. I just coined that phrase. You're welcome to it. Throw the bums out. Really? Are there far worse than any of the Democrats because they have been elected to fight against this stuff specifically by folks like us. And they're not doing it. They've abdicated their role. So when we become a socialist country, which God forbid, that will never happen, but They would be the ones to blame Mitch McConnell all the career politicians, uh they really are guilty. So I'm just grateful to folks like you mark for writing books like this and standing up against this green fraud. Is the book green fraud. Why? The green New deal is even worse than you Think. "Let's begin with nancy. Pelosi making what i think is a grave error. I think she always hear about. Donald trump destroyed the norms. Okay nancy pelosi as speaker is wiping out the all the customs traditions of the house of representatives and she must pay what she did is on this baloney january six commission. And i gotta tell you about january six guys. i keep hearing how. It's a giant riot and insurrection. Look i was in the los angeles riots. Fueled by maxine waters not democrat. I was on the streets for three weeks with third battalion. Hundred and sixtieth infantry. That's a riot what happened on capitol hill was a frat party. Okay no comparison all right and the only person killed on. Capitol hill was an unarmed trespasser veteran. Shot by a cop whose name we don't know. Dozens were murdered in los angeles. So you know. Save your drama for your mama. 'cause i'm not entertaining. It and nancy pelosi wants to have this kangaroo court commission so she appoints liz. Cheney nominal republican and now she's going to appoint adam kin zinger the r-enfield of the gop caucus but she's not allowing kevin mccarthy to put jim banks big friend a show and jim jordan on the committee. She doesn't approve. She is picking who the republicans can put on committees. This cannot stand. This is not happened before. Now they strip marjorie taylor green her seats and that was a bad precedent. But it's special. This was a merger we we had to do it. If kevin mccarthy doesn't retaliate. They've set a new standard. Yes so macy's check out three guys on paywall or i can't remember what day we're owned by last week's three but if you can't physically see this is michael steele is such a fucking conundrum. Me you keep saying that. Because he's one of those black republicans who is absolutely black. Like like ain't no questions does a lot. i'd say the vast majority of black republicans feel like they don't have any cultural touchstones to blackness like it feels like they live a life in service to whiteness and by admonishing black people selling their on people out in consistently being like you know fuck niggers in black white people are racist anyway. "Have never minimized the events of january. Sixth kevin mccarthy has never minimize those events. Mitch mcconnell has never minimize those events in fact mitch mcconnell once. I'm sorry to say rather stupidly. Blame trump for january sixth hard to blame trump hard to get these words out of your ears when he spoke on january six and said i know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the capitol building to peacefully and patriotically. Make your voices heard. Hey senator mcconnell that's not some code forgo act violent so again. There's no mystery what happened. That day was dreadful and the people who did it should be prosecuted. But that's not enough for liz cheney. That's not enough for adam kinser. That's not enough for nancy pelosi and to me. The one upside is this stupid hearing. "Hill, The 1st January sixth commission hearing is Tuesday. This at the same time prosecutions are moving through the justice system. Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi and top House Republican Kevin McCarthy remain at odds over the panel. As NPR's Mara Liasson tells us, this is the state of play in Washington at the moment, I think That the January 6th investigations really illustrate the deep divide that we have in this country. Nothing illustrates a better actually, we have the worst attack on the capital since 18 12. And the decision about whether or not to investigate. It has become completely partisan. We have Republicans voting against the independent Commission and against this special Select committee, Kevin McCarthy, the Republican leader in the House, appointed to Republicans to that committee, both of whom disagreed with the committee's existence in the first place. "Nancy pelosi put an end to the republican effort to disrupt the work of the select committee on january six. Today there's new reporting the speakers adding even more republicans to the already bipartisan investigation. Many hossan and katie hill are here to talk about at all next. Now more than five hundred people from the said loving crowd who marched the capital and started a riot have been arrested as a massive investigation into what happened. That day continues the house. Select committee is now moving forward. Today speaker pelosi defended her decision to continue without any of the five republicans picked by house. Minority leader kevin mccarthy after she vetoed two of them and he pulled the three. Select committee is bipartisan. And it has a and it will do. The job it sets out to do. "We explained who reported to whom We explain public statements. From the head of Capitol police and others. We? Who's we? I explained what was going on in the Norfolk FBI. That the president the United States, Donald Trump, had offered up 10,000 National Guardsmen. The actually report to the newspaper. I can't remember which one But there were reports about information that was known in advance. Bye. Law enforcement on Capitol Hill. And I asked the question then. Which some are asking now. Because this January 6th committee What did Nancy Pelosi no. And why can't we find out now? They have been statements by frauds in the media. Democrats dressed up as journalists, some of them actually keeping their pants on. And they've asked questions like Oh, are they going to call Kevin McCarthy to testify? No, A better question is well. Nancy Pelosi be called to testify. Well. Nancy Pelosi be called to testify under oath. Because This committee is a fake fraud committee to big Excuse me to begin with. What did Nancy Pelosi turned down additional security. Was she not available to be consulted with man? When information was brought to the capital was information brought to the Capitol. Rep. Kevin McCarthy Says People Like Pelosi and Omar Are Tearing Us Down

"Uh, that enough information is getting out to, uh, suburbs and other places in this country where They're going to really go down to defeat big time this this election cycle. I am feeling a movement I have not seen before. And you know what's most interesting mark. It's not just conservatives. I'm hearing it from independence. I'm hearing it from Democrats. I'm hearing it from Democrats, moms who are waking up of what being taught in their schools when they shut down the schools and wouldn't let people go and they put it on zoom. People now paid attention to what these Individuals are saying and teaching. They are teaching you to hate one another. Based upon the color of your skin. Remember, I imagine it's in your book. What is the mark? Six taxes? How do you destroy America? You try to destroy the foundation. You want to hate the nation instead of love the nation. I mean, think about who they have in their party. Congresswoman Omar. Lord in a country that wasn't stabilized. She goes to account. And what does America do? What America does best opening up the arms and brings her into this nation. She becomes a citizen. But what do we do that another other nation will allow you to do you assimilate? You have just as much responsibility. Did anybody else you become a member of Congress less than 13,000 people have ever had the privilege. You would think she would love this nation instead of hate this nation. You would think you'd want to duplicate this instead of try to tear it down. You think you'd want to emulate it? Because when she became a citizen Abraham Lincoln was the Liberator. Martin Luther King spoke of her dreams, and now she wants to criticize it. America is exceptional. Mhm. Not perfect. We strive to be a more perfect union, but they want to tear us down and what they're trying to do is teaching to schools. People are waking up and are not going to take it any longer. Just how I'm not going to take it from Nancy Pelosi. This is fantastic, and you should know we've been working hard here. Behind this microphone, millions and millions of listeners. They are organizing. They are rising up. It's not just in a school board here or there, there are plans to do a whole lot more. And I want

Rep. Kevin McCarthy Comments on Pelosi Rejecting Jordan, Banks for Jan. 6 Committee

"Pelosi did today. This is what I want to talk about because This is unbelievable. Go ahead. I'll shut up. Okay? Never in the history of Congress, a committee she wants to pick Who can go on Look at she calls me today to object. It's her there Select Committee that just pure politics about January 6th. She doesn't want to answer the question why the National Guard was not there. She didn't want to answer the question of why they weren't prepared. That's the answer. Why did we let these Capitol police down? Why weren't the national guard there they knew on December 14th, the head of the Capitol. Police knew what was going to happen, but they have to answer to her. She tried to pick and choose WHO Republicans could put on She objected to Jim Banks. She didn't object when Jim Banks served in the Navy and fought in Afghanistan. She objects to to Jim Jordan was a ranking member of Judiciary Committee who has oversight to this I mean, this is her absolute power trying to control everything. So I just said, we're out. Which was very, very wise. I think a very, very good move. You don't have to put up with that. She doesn't get to control both parties with an iron fist, does she No, it's the People's House, not Pelosi's house. This is nothing but a sham, and it just shows she was never serious about finding the truth.

"There are as i said earlier. Very few people who are committed to a make america great again for lack of a better term agenda who understand that we can no longer play politics as usual. It's just. It's just not going to work if we're not willing to fight. Trump was to me the ultimate warrior willing to take on. You know whether it's the deep state or whatever. Well how do you feel about that. Because we really aren't a strange moment. Where you can't say this but i can i think mitch mcconnell's skunk. I think kevin mccarthy is no better. I look at these people i thought they were on my side and realize they're not the kind of warriors we need. How do you see the party going forward when we have so many people that they simply don't seem committed when the chips are down so let me say to. The bible talks about this. It's actually about these times. Where there you talked about sifting. There's a time where those who are truly prepared to follow. I knew the mission set. That i had been given and i had this incredible privilege. And it's time it's time for the fearless. There's no time for the make that this is. This is america's moment what's taking place in our schools the crime in our cities. "Fascinating to me. I i keep saying that. We're at a real threshing moment. In america dividing and we're seeing because of trump and i really believe it was god's hand using trump a destruction and creation where we're seeing it a one of those destruction creation moments in history that we haven't seen in our lifetimes there's been nothing like and so is there. Is this sifting. Where the people that i would have thought were on our team. I now know are just playing ball to play all stay in power. They're kind of reading. The tea leaves finger in the wind. "All right. I live in studio with congressman and house minority leader. Kevin mccarthy good to see there. Oh good to be here. Thanks for letting me in the house. You came all the way down from bakersfield to so cal. La how do you feel about being in scary angeles. Well represented county lancaster but the temperature in basil's pretty hot. It's like one hundred and five today. So i thought it'd be a little cooler here but it's not that little cooler here when you come down to la and look. It's hollywood. i don't did you make it to hollywood yet. I've made it hollywood yet. It's pretty messy. The homeless situation the drugs the crime. The stores are all still closed. Half the lockdown stuff. What do you make of what's happening. I guess i'm talking about so cal. I which is broadly in california. The bad part is everyone thinks. Okay southern cal with homeless it's everywhere it's in bakersville. It's an every single community. But what i really will shocked the other day when i came into southern california. You've almost gone accustomed to seeing homeless under the overpass. Right and everywhere. But they have overtaken the beaches We'll sure boulevard but was shocking to me as living on the freeway. You have the banks. They literally built houses. As you're driving and i mean i i'm shocked by it. I'm thinking why. And how can this continue. So why is it okay. So you're a congressman tapping in bakersfield. Why is it happening. All newsom spot like what what is really going. You know what i came home. It's not a federal issue. But what the first thing i did was. I brought a symposium together my mayor and actually flew up. Kevin faulkner Out of san diego. He was mayor san diego. It was the only major city in california that actually decreased homelessness right. So we got these court cases out there where you're not allowed to pick a homeless person up unless you have a shelter for them but this is where the city's go wrong like spend five hundred thousand dollars on a little place to put a homeless person as the majority have a mental problem drug problem and if you go back to where prop forty-seven was and others..

"This time actually kept him locked up with this whole rotating system. Now, where even if the police do their job, the district attorney's very often will not support a reinforce the law. But instead let people out. You have this in. Los. Angeles even more in San Francisco in terms of the district attorney there who is a very hard line pro Venezuelan dictatorship, Pro Castro kind of left winner and I. Think Somehow we're going to get across to people that these policies have consequences. One what we're seeing not work, it is a functioning policies that were just wrong. I think that's part of why I like what you're doing here. You're laying out a plan. which allows people to understand the details. When you talk about opportunities zones, for example, the ability to really focus on growing areas that have been poor I think people realize this is something that could work. You're correct. You know what George Soros has done and I've watched it in California now they wanNA move it nationally. He's got into these cities where he spent millions of dollars on a district attorney race that you've never seen before. You've only heard about these things on a national campaign from San Diego Contra cost another's and there's two places he focused. District Attorney's. And Secretaries of state. Because, he wants to determine when it comes to election law he wants to determine especially when you're talking about right now, we just heard from a DA in California who said after there was looting not to prosecute anybody because they needed woody now have to determine when someone's still something if they felt they needed it is no longer breaking the law. They don't have the right to do that. We believe in the rule of law this has been a long term program by the Democrats, and now we're watching the ramifications of what they have done in these cities that have been just controlled by Democrats they WANNA, do it on a much larger scale? We have a perfect example. The Democrats for the number of years thinking that government can own and control and send you a check determined that we will change the outcome of your life in the poorest communities of America or could we give an opportunity zone private money comes and faster you get a piece of the pie you get to move up in the economy and that we're not going to hold you to a bad school. We're GonNa let the parents choose and we're going to give the best school for you to go to. Your. Really developing. A program of individual responsibility, individual choice and essense taking power back from government. And putting it back with individuals. And striking this much closer to the original American model where people one out in pursue the American dream. I'm in California and California's a great example because it's a beautiful state has everything you'd ever want right. But. It also has. What the Democrat policies have brought over after Ronald Reagan after George Duke Major had made this such a promising state, right? We now pay forty percent higher electricity. We now have electricity turned off because they can't provide enough to the grid. But what else we have is an example of what the Democrats say like everybody should be equal. Well, now we find Nancy Pelosi. Doesn't have the same rules. So once she got caught of going and getting her hair done, they opened up for everybody else when they kept the gym's closed and when they finally found out that the only gyms that weren't closed where the government gems. So the government employees could still go there now they opened up the public wants. So when these socialist tell you, it's making it equal for everybody else it's not always equal we. Learned that from the Soviet Union the elect few still get something more but I believe in an idea that gives the own power. It doesn't hold you back to what you can achieve and what they have done it to the school districts to hold people back what they are now trying to do to the rule of law of making our streets not safe. This is a much different election than we've had in the last century. Whether it was in reaction to trump or just because of the gradual evolution of the system. Re of their power grab is much greater that when you see a governor such as in Nevada, who says is okay to get the other casino, but you can't get together at a church. Well, that's virtually a dictatorship. He's telling you what you can and can't do with no reference to the rule of law. And no reference to individual liberty. And assumes that you're trying to do with this kind of a commitment is get us back to a country where people have choices within a framework of law and where the workforce has the right kind of education and where there are incentives to create jobs. So people actually can work their way to dramatically better future. Without having to rely on government, that's an enormous. Gap between where the Democrats are and where we are. I'm GonNa tell you a personal conversation. I had with my governor Gavin newsom. During this pandemic Gavin nuisance shuts everything down as we begin to phase out of it. He makes a rule about restaurants opening up any basis at upon square footage for social distancing, which I believe is fair restaurant restaurant how large you are, how many people you can have based upon square footage. He's in later makes the decision about whether you can go to church and he makes a uniform decision regardless of the size of your church you can only have one hundred people. So, I text him and say, I need to talk to his chief of staff, call me and the Secretary of Health, and I asked him the question. How did you determine for restaurants and they all we base it on square foot he's for the science and social. Distance. Did you use that same for churches? No. They WANNA pick and choose I said last time I read the Constitution I didn't see anything in there about restaurants but I believe it had religious freedom in there. And what's their reaction when you say that because I've been amazed at their willingness to run over religious liberty. It's almost internally they don't care. They're going to take this moment in time and when the protests came, there's a video. It's shoulder to shoulder from mile long of people down. In. La Protesting. You will not hair one question about that. Coming to spread in New York to Balazs you told them you cannot track and trace if somebody comes in and has covert asking if they've gone to a protest, you cannot ask them. They view that as different another discussion I had with Gavin Newsom, these churches have daycare. So during the week, they can provide daycare for a number of children. But on Sunday we cannot meet. So I guess covert only comes on Sunday. It's almost to the point that they're putting their own personal beliefs forward. That's why the commitment to America we put in. We will preserve our freedoms under the constitution because we're going to uphold free speech you can go protest your voice needs to be hurt pro or con. Also, GonNa protect your religious liberty, and we're going to defend the unborn and we're going to safeguard the second amendment. If you.

"It's Sunday morning with us. The most powerful Congressman Republican congressman on Capitol Hill Kevin McCarthy or leader Good Morning Leader McCarthy. How are you? I'm doing well. John how are you doing. I'm doing great raked. And as we spoke in the past I think this is one of the most important elections in our country's history. How do you feel about the events that happened in the past week? Well I will tell you I think the president has made this world safer and made sure America was safer When you look at the individual this terrorist that The president taking out the six hundred American lives that he had taken that were defending our nation and then just recently another American he killed in the attack on the embassy the downing of our drone I mean I thought this president been very patient with Iran but I think he sent a very clear message to them and now we're seeing de escalation which I think is appropriate and Making sure that this administration has a red line and they follow through on it like they did. I think that's the only thing that Iran understands I agree with you. One hundred ten percent and Nobody Americans don't really understand skin Where Nancy Pelosi is going where especially when she wants to take a vote on the war powers act that means? The president of the United States can't do anything without asking them. I isn't that crazy. That is very crazy. Nothing that we had ever done to President Obama. Either remember when when Summa bin Laden was killed Republicans and Democrats together celebrated that and thank the president for his actions General Portray says that all Mani is bigger than Bin Laden and the Democrats cannot give this president any credit for it. Iran had escalated at this time and again. And that's what your listeners to understand remember the downing of our drone the bombing of the tankers the bombing of the refinery the killing of an American the attack on our embassy. This is all in short timeframe within the last six months and somehow America escalated this. It was a defense. The president has all the right to do it and the most telling of all this the resolution. They put it on in the form of what they did. They did something that's called a concurrent resolution which is non-binding. Unbinding has no power whatsoever. This is the form that we used to have the Soapbox Derby on Capitol Hill. This is when we use concurrent resolutions Russians and lying to the American public. Like they're doing something I mean. All they're doing is weakening our country by telling Iran that we were divided that the president doesn't doesn't have the support of the president doesn't have the power to act when he does even some of the c. a Democratic senators Feinstein from California has started to question Pelosi since she gets a message. You know she's really should with Dianne. Feinstein who is the senator from California forty but more importantly is Nancy. Pelosi's Home Count Senator from San Francisco when she said all this talk of urgency. And when you don't send it means it's is not urging if it's urgent send it over if not don't send it at all. And then she nancy Pelosi had her own chairman of Armed Services Committee. Say It's time he just made this comment. Oh yesterday that it's time to send over the only person that doesn't think so Nancy Pelosi but she told the American people. It was so urgent ascend. I think what she's really saying now is in a very very clear message that her case is so weak that she knows. There's not a reason for impeachment. She's almost embarrassing. To the case that she has of why she should send it to the Senate and overall the American people other than the people in in Washington. Just feel that we're at a standstill on on the vote on the trade deal from Canada and Mexico which is jointly pro. You know everybody's for it. Why can't go food? Well you know It has moved forward in one committee in the Senate Parliamentarian over there has listed. I think another five committees so the timing. It's trying to get that through holding impeachment papers which I do not believe she has the power to do continues to Harm America Erica from the basis of getting any work done because what happens once the impeachment papers go there. That's the only thing the Senate can do it then. It would jeopardize the trade agreement by the timing of wanted to get it done now in our country on Friday The jobs are all time high unemployment all-time all time low consumer confidence all time high. Don't Democrats see this. I'm not sure what they're seeing. I mean they get so frustrated just because the president has been so successful I think as a country especially in situations like this. We shouldn't look this as Republicans or Democrats. We should look at it. As as Americans how Democrats who brought up a war powers act look at those six hundred gold star families those mom and tell them that they think it's right around after what this individual had done and the number of Americans e to the other thing that happened on Friday morning was that the Iraqi. Prime Minister said sister's been a vote about the United States pulling out troops. Maybe we should have a discussion. Where where does he stand? Well I I'm not sure we'll have. It would be very interesting to see the aircraft that was shot down Where do we go from here? Well this is going to be very interesting You have Iran. WHO's not releasing the black box? I think there's a reason for it and now they ran to clean up the debris because it's very clear from the videos that seems as though Iran actually shot down a commercial official jet seventy six to maybe Passes the book to just. I'm innocent. Lives being killed again again by Iran. Why what do we have to do to move off country folk? Well I think the first thing we have to do is focus on the issues about that. America needs from prescription drugs from surprise billing continuing to build our economy to be stronger getting US MCA pass. We're more job needed. Her Konami believes stronger. Focusing on what's going forward from the environment and others those are all the issues that we would like to work on in Congress. The sad part is with this new. The Democrat majority. They have offered more subpoenas than they have created loss. VAT is the history that would be having now. We're into a new year and we're back to the same thing just more or investigations. We've got this challenge and Iran. And we've got an Intel Committee that focuses all their time on impeachment which isn't their jurisdiction instead of focusing on keeping this this country safe. It's Sunday morning Americans sitting back. I'd breakfast and having their the coffee What else would you like to tell all Americans I would just like to thank them and Tell you one thing I think we were all very fortunate to live in America. America's more than a country. America's an idea an idea of self governance we were unique in the essence of this country. It was conceived in liberty and dedicated proposition that we are all equal. We believe in a more perfect union and striving towards that I think the more divide only harmse's find find ways that we work together for the common good and that's one of the made new goals that I have here in Congress House. Republican leader Kevin McCarthy Carthy. I agree with you one hundred ten percent and I reach out to all comic sense. Democrats are things like Americans and not necessarily party lines finds a happy New Year and God bless America. Thank you so much this is the round table. We'll be right back..

"Good Morning America. This is the cats roundtable John Cats Matisse here. Send me morning what's going on in Washington who it gives us those inches then house. Republican leader Congressman Kevin McCarthy Good Morning Lead. I just I call you leader. How how are you you could just call me Kevin. I'm doing well John. How are you good. What a message going on over there. where do we begin. We'll be able to judiciary sir. I think we should now remember congressman. Nadler the way a member becomes a chairman of a committee they literally run for it within their own conference and when Congressman Nadler started running to become chair of judiciary committee he put out some of the arguments why he should be chairman and you know what one of them was that he would be the very best person for impeachment and if you notice this is not where the country she wants to go. This is not where Democrats WANNA go. They'd had to pull the sit. There are no facts behind to have an impeachment and what does he do. He creates an imaginary impeachment. Teach me now there's internal turmoil within the Democratic Party. Some Democrats are wondering whether why he should stay chairman. I've heard talk of them wanting to remove him as chair Nancy Pelosi the speaker had to have her own conference and she said I don't care if you leak this criticizing he and his staff I mean they are in an all without war because of the way he has mismanaged the committee. This committee has jurisdiction over the border. He's done nothing immigration. This committee has jurisdiction and over social media the tech companies and others. He's done nothing about that. This committee has the oversight when it comes to the inspector generals who who the Inspector General Horowitz who just did a review of the DOJ this is the committee and he refuses to bring them forward every normal Komo congress in the past regardless of who was in charge if it's inspector general had a report like this would bring the expecter general into question but I just up to Pelosi to step to the plate and do something I would think so I mean she is one in the basis. Remember how fearful we were. Pelosi running the Democrats 'cause he was so far to the left. The Democrats are not the same party they were in the past there now the Socialist Democrats. That's what they call themselves that uh-huh Nancy Pelosi from San Francisco is now the moderate in the new Socialist Democrat Party. She has the title Speaker but she no longer has the power. The new four freshman Kinda run the show. You're absolutely right. It looks crazy. Now what's even crazier. The New York Times minds writes in a row news report that wasn't proven about justice cavern and all of a sudden they wanNA impeach him to yes and remember what the New York Times has done in the media has done in so many different ways they went and they removed the facts because they'd they've ear responsible for even what they've done and I see it continue to go forward. It's very sad. It is very sad I don't know what's going to happen at the New York Times. I mean author cells. Parker is no longer in charge. I guess he put his son in charge and things things got worse. Really has what's GonNa Happen. I mean this is between the trade agreement with Canada and Mexico Exco. Every American wants it. Most of the Democrats want. I mean it's good for America. It's good for North America. It's good for all of us on the US MCA the United States and Mexico Canada agreement which everybody supports which I don't know why that was was not passed before we left on the East on the summer. Break Mexico has already ratified months ago Canada's waiting for us and if anybody would study about our trading partners do you know Mexico in the last month is overtaken to become number one candidate or number two and here here. We are with the discussion with China trying to get a more level playing field if we had. US MCA passed before the president had to sit down with Xi Jinping in November ember are we would even be stronger in our negotiations with China. Why wouldn't we put the country. I I think the Democrats are more concerned about tearing the president down instead of building America up we also the president promised the Brits that they went through with brexit that we would make an agreement with them toe and it's a natural agreement or among among friends. Why don't we want to be strong in our whole own continent here I mean I I just don't understand nobody can tell me why would oppose it. It would only create at a minimum one hundred and eighty thousand jobs. They say it could be higher half a million Why wouldn't we WANNA make our economy stronger. GDP EP would grow. I don't understand the only reason why this couldn't be brought up because the speaker has all the power went to call it up is simply. Blaine Politics Horrible Justice Department. I mean we we keep talking about horrible more horrible roble most horrible the Justice Department Inspector General the recommendations for a criminal action or whatever what do you think is how does how is that. GonNa sort out well. I am very hope four and I've got a lot of respect for attorney general bar. I think he is a man who doesn't play politics who just does follows the rule of the law and wherever the evidence take some he goes but the one thing I found as well too is that I believe people need to be held accountable because you look at report after report from FIS and others when we're hopefully seeing that one come through this is the closest this country has ever come to having a coup and we can never allow any person new becomes President Republican Democrat Green Party or other to go through the fear of what just happened we cannot allow individuals to do that again and we need to get to the bottom of it and people need to be held accountable call me it looks like very very very true and then the number two became inside the FBI. I mean now. They're moving forward to put charges against him here. He is is a number two in law enforcement. Trying people are putting forth for trial for lying when he's lying to the American public the what were the what are the Democrats do they had them for a fundraiser that goes beyond Pale. Why would you hold this man to any Osteen Dean Law Enforcement. You're supposed to uphold the law when he was lying. What's worse. CNN hired him. Yes that shows. There's a lot to what the media's doing. I would not think this individual get rewarded for lying leader of a quasi. What else would you like to tell the American public. I mean Saudi Arabia do the Iranians do it. All indication Asian intelligence right now looks like Iran did attack Saudi Arabia. We've attacked him before we know. They attacked tankers. We know that Iran is the individuals who fun terrorism from around the world who foster it and try to make it grow the one thing that we have found a win after tried to attack five percent of the supply of oil around the world they wanted the price to two hundred dollars at any given time before it would have the difference is America America's becoming energy independent we when Republicans wearing the majority we lifted the ban and what has happened. We now expert to thirty countries. We now have producing more oil or now number. One in the world that only makes more jobs bakes makes us stronger makes the environment more sound because of the way we produce it instead of others but also geo politically it makes the world safer now you cannot have. Iran continue to do this. They shut down one of our own unmanned planes and they are trying to push the world into a war. This is a time that the world should unite against Iran. Well agree the net we got a minute. What else would you like to tell the American people nearly. I'll tell the American people just just a short time ago. There are two special elections in North Carolina Republicans won both of them in you should look at that. North Carolina nine a seat that Republicans only one by nine hundred votes in twenty the eighteen just want it by four thousand. If I was a democrat I'd be worried because a number of Democrats ended up voting for Republicans because they've now seen the policy that this is no longer anger the Democratic Party. They're Socialist Democrats. They believe in total control Medicare for all to actually control the healthcare instead of modernizing the healthcare care when you look at what they wanna do in the process for the environment. I'm looking at Republicans wanting to clean up the environment where ninety percent Santa all the plastic comes from ten rivers in the world. He looked at the Republicans in Congress going after those ten rivers to get ninety percent up I look at when it comes to the economy automate. This is the strongest economy we've been in the last fifty years and the part. I love most about it is it's reached. All of America doesn't matter your gender your color your skin. You have a better economy today for you than at any given time and that's exciting but we want to make sure we build on that. When I watched the democratic debate there wasn't one in question for those running for president on the economy are on a peach mint but when I watched the Democrats Socialists in the house all they WanNa talk about is an imaginary imaginary impeachment I think I think this country believes we need to our elected. Officials focus on finding common ground focus focus on making sure tomorrow is better than today and that will happen with a new Congress leader McCarthy thank you very much for coming on on and how American people what's going on and thank you for your leadership and thank you for being great American thank you. This is the catch roundtable we write back..

"But while we seek cooperation there is one core principle upon which we will not compromise Republicans always choose personal freedom over government control. Representative Kevin McCarthy of California and the speaker's chair on the opening day of the two hundred sixteenth congress setting the stage for the Republicans in the house being in a minority position with him as their leader. We're going to learn more about Kevin McCarthy and his approach to leadership by dipping into C Span's archives. As those of you who watch us. No, we have a ongoing video record of members of congress throughout their legislative history. And we thought would be interesting to assemble that for a look back at what brought Kevin McCarthy to this position of power. And what we might expect from him in the next couple of years. I'll let me introduce the two reporters who are going to help us. Stay this. Scott Wong as returning to C span. Today's senior staff writer for the hills. Scott, welcome back. Nice to see you again. And Evan Hafer is a staff writer for the Los Angeles Times. I've got to ask both of you starting with you. And if you would explain how you've been covering Kevin McCarthy and for how long shore I've been covering. Mccarthy for since before two thousand and four when he became the Republican leader in the California assembly at the time Arnold Schwarzenegger was governor. I was working in the Sacramento bureau. The state was in a major budget crisis which continued for some time, and he sort of led the minority Republicans resisting any any tax increases. And then he he went on to go to congress later, and I started working in Washington about six years ago, and I've been covering while I've been in Washington, and Scott how about you. I've been covering Capitol Hill for the last eight years, but Kevin McCarthy specifically since two thousand fourteen when I joined the hill newspaper, Capitol Hill publication and started covering House Republicans, then the speaker of the house was John bainer, but we've had some turnover over the years and McCarthy has been sort of the consistent force throughout that time. And so now after four years in the majority, I'm covering Kevin McCarthy. The and the minority. Well, the consistent force and coupled with a pretty quick rise both in the California assembly and in the house of representatives for both of you. What is the secret to his success? Why has he advanced so quickly I in his home state assembly and then in the congress. Well, Kevin McCarthy was very good. And California's very good here at seeing what people want, and what people need and doing things for them, politically, helping them raise money either. He's he's somewhat chameleon like ideologically. He he sees sort of where the party is going, and he's very good at helping people elevate their political careers and people get indebted to him. He's not a firm ideologue. He's more of a centrist when he was in California. And then he sort of hitched his wagon Trump more lately here and the party when he helped the tea party's takeover of congress in in two thousand ten and he's just very shrewd at looking at the electoral map, seeing who needs what helping people the donors are comfortable with him in ways that they may not be comfortable with some of the more active activists elements in the party, but he sort of bridges that gap. He's a liaison for the tea party to the big money faction. And a lot of people are just who who may not be comfortable with each other or comfortable with him. He's a very good tactician. And he's obviously a survivor, and that's that's why he's he's continued to excel even even as as some of this. Some of the people who promoted in the policies promoted, you know, have not done. So well, as we know California lost half of its Republican delegation in the last election there down from fourteen members in the house to seven very large California allegation yet Kevin McCarthy is still in leadership. What can you add to that? Well, he has the relationships on Capitol Hill, and he works hard at developing those relationships. So he finds out what certain members need he studies there congressional districts. He's as ever mentioned, he's tactician. He studies congressional maps. He reads political almanacs not for fun, but to help him advance his career. So he learns about what the specific needs of members. Are he travels the country like nobody else on Capitol Hill? He's going to districts attending fundraisers stumping for his colleagues currying favor for his colleagues for moments when he needs their support to run for leadership. Those are his strengths. What are the skills? That's maybe some past recent leaders have had that Kevin McCarthy might look to others because he doesn't feel as confident in those areas himself short it's interesting because he talked during a house of cards. He would talk a lot about how Kevin Spacey came in. And we'll talk to him about how. Year run this this office, you wanna with an iron fist, and he was whip at the time and some cards started that was Kevin Spacey's role in in congress. And he doesn't have the tools of a Tom DeLay. He's you know, he can't rule the hammer. The earmarks, of course, don't exist anymore. That's the Republicans the leadership used to be able to use to kind of Lord over their members and keep them in line. So he doesn't have aren't fist, and and that for better or worse as the way the way he runs things, and that makes it harder to keep everyone in line painter at the same problem and Paul Ryan, of course, at the same problem. And so these guys are not Newt Gingrich. They're not they're not Tom DeLay. And it's it's made it harder to to hurt all those cats and the like those two years before him he will still have that really divided conference in the house of representatives, the hard core conservative tea party, and the moderates are people more willing to compromise. So what does he have available to them? Well, when he does seem to have available to him are the tools are retiring about in terms of he's sort of believes that you should let the party go in the direction at wants to go with that. It's not his job to have one solid vision. And push everyone along that may be messy. It may be we may fall short on some some votes like when they didn't vote specifying Bill that that year, which was was pretty wild. Because we hadn't seen formed ills usually something that everyone can get behind an impasse. And when when he was I think whip at the time. They fell short what can this guy count votes? And he would argue well in the end we actually because we couldn't pass that and we can pass other measures. Negotiate for more. We got more for Republicans. And so the process was Missy it didn't maybe look good for him. But Republicans got more out of it. And they got where they were trying to go in the end. Anyway. So he'll argue that for the good of the caucus. They are making progress. Even if it doesn't look as meeting tiny, and he doesn't look like as an effective leader as some of the previous Republican leaders and. Well, we're going to see a lot of him on the Sunday talk shows and out in public as the face of the Republicans in congress. He's not he's not a great orator. He's had problems in the past. Actually, a major problem when he talked about the Benghazi committee when he was running for speaker back in two thousand fifteen and got into some trouble. When he suggested on Fox News that that the Benghazi committee was mainly there for political purposes to take down Hillary Clinton, and he got into a lot of trouble for that contributed to his failing to generate enough support to become speaker. So he has had some problems in the past. But he does do quite a bit of cable TV I think specifically on Fox News on FOX business on CNBC. And I think we'll probably see him out front, especially on a lot of those more conservative business oriented networks, and I'm going to turn to you. And have you give viewers his biographical background? Where was he born where raised where he goes? Well, he's a Bakersfield native had been there forever. His historic was that when he was nineteen he bought a lottery ticket. He he won. I think it was five thousand dollars. It was like his first time playing the lottery he used that money to open a deli. I think it was called Kevin owes his big thing was making his own bread. And he said he was very successful at that business. He also went by cars, I think at auction and sell them, but but even with this background and with his father who was the firefighter in being the Bakersfield native, there's also a very sort of a decidedly political background that he had. I mean, he he saw Bill Thomas's mentor. He started working for him in his office. I think at the same time he he was opening deli. And so he got involved in politics pretty early. I mean, he was he was nineteen at that time. Eventually became his chief of staff and a very traditional into politics. Thomas was a great mentor for him and connecting with all kinds of donors. He was a natural. Building those relationships, and then he made it to the California assembly. He was in his thirty s and the time, and he very quickly became the assembly leader was it was it was a time sort of like his times in congress where you had this rebellion going on within the party, the sort of establishment centrists who've been running at were we're getting a lot of grief from the wasn't the tea party at the time. But it was the scanty tax faction that was driven by talk radio to do not bend on taxes. Do you not agree to raising taxes? Even though McCarthy was not from that. That part of the Republican party. He knew how to work with these people want to give them what they wanted and the. The establishment guy. Who was I think he was either the sixties or seventies the time. His name was was Dave Cox. And then next thing we knew McCarthy who was just sort of this likable guy who was known in California for. You know, he he had a house that they all rented. There were a bunch of Republicans who who lived there when they were in Sacramento and. He was friends when the pollster Frank Lenzi. They would watch tapes of themselves talking in the legislature and great each other on how they were doing, and you know, just because people liked him. He he got this leadership position. And that was in two thousand four well, it's got long the very earliest that he is in our archives is seven years before I came to congress. This is two thousand at the GOP convention, and let's watch Kevin McCarthy and his earlier incarnation..

"The hour on first light. Sometimes I feel like we're playing name that tune. But the House Republicans have their eyes on one of their own Iowa. Congressman Steve king, Steve king, probably not too happy this morning because House Republicans are blocking him from serving on any committees in the new congress. They're punishing him for his comments about white supremacy. The thing is if you're a member of congress committees that all the where all the work is done without committee assignments, you have no power. I mean, you can still have an office that helps your constituents get their social security checks, or maybe help a veteran get some some medical assistance or dealing with any problems that relate to the federal government. But you have no power because any legislation is coming out of committees. You can introduce any bills that you want, but they go right into a committee. And if you're not on the committee, you have no power to write to change things to Mark up. You can vote I guess on the floor of that's about it. And so the question is is that enough punishment is that too much punishment? And as I said a few moments ago, you know, he's been saying these kind of things for years and years and years Steve king seems to have an attitude that the white race is superior race and others are therefore inferior. He makes it makes it very clear he does not want immigrants coming in and changing the character of America. He says it over and over again, frankly, his latest comments didn't seem all that out of line. But maybe it's just the, you know, the time where the Republicans have finally said we've had enough we don't want this in our ranks. What do you think about that? Call us at eight hundred seven three six three six six six. So the House Republicans who and they do house. The minority leader Kevin McCarthy, he's actually he'll be working with the steering committee folks on terms of who gets what assignments for the Republicans, and they're saying you don't get any committee assignments. So it's not that the Democrats are doing that to Steve king is the Republicans. What House Democrats are doing they're seeking formal punishment for king? Although it's really just a introducing a resolution disapproving of him. And so they want to condemn white supremacy white nationalism, and that could be voted on today. But that's really just symbolic gesture saying we don't like what you're doing actually removing him from the committee's is where the that's the real the real damage to his ability to get anything done. He can talk can vote he conservative constituents back home in their relations with the federal government. But that will be about it. So how did we get here? Let's check in now with Linda Kenyon. Our Capitol Hill correspondent who's been following the saga up. Steve king, Linda, I will not stand back as a leader of this party believing in this nation that all are created equal that that stands are continues to stand. It have any role with us. Iowa Representative Steve king is getting called on the carpet serious conversation with congressman Steve king on his future. Enroll in this Republican party house minority leader Kevin McCarthy, speaking on CBS, his face the nation after the Iowa congressmens recent comments in defense of white supremacy. Those comments appeared in a New York Times article last week in which Steve king. Question. Why label white nationalist had become offensive? He also skirted an apology during a speech on the house floor on Friday. It's true that like the founding fathers. I am an advocate for western civilization values. And that I profoundly believe that America is the greatest tangible expression of these ideals the world has ever seen under any fair political definition. I am simply an American nationalist, the one thing he said he did regret was this higher. Regret the heartburn that has poured forth upon this congress in this country. And especially in my state it in my congressional district that wasn't good enough for leader McCarthy..

"Does not that does occasionally. But you blame the victim before giving a wrote speech because apparently the word is out that Jared and Ivanka are the ones that like you gotta say something about this, dad. And then he gave a half-hearted speech. There's no place for this, etc. And the media is the enemy of the people. So it's immediately turn away from that message and attack again an attack Tom Steyer, who by the way, it was one of the targets of the pipebombs. Yeah. Yup. Yup. Nope. Don't point at another political leader because who is the president of the United States who controls congress where are those Republican Kevin McCarthy said something that was reprehensible as well. House majority leader. Not speaker. That's Paul Ryan who's been basically silent through all of this. How do we what are where do you stand on this hour? How what are you gonna do? To cut that back of appealing to the white supremacists. And giving into the caravan the other great, I agree. We do we do need borders. And we need to talk about how we control people coming in and out, but to demonize, oh my God. They're gonna flood our board. They're gonna flood our country. We're all gonna be. Yeah. "I mean it was a great example of what kevin mccarthy said so basically he said if there's no collusion it's time for muller to end his investigation and he also said there has been no collusion so far so now kevin mccarthy has taken us to the only crime that counts is collusion this is where the the the house republicans are now it's a good example of you know we have talked quite a bit about paul ryan on this on this program in how little we like him but if the republicans keep the house kevin mccarthy is the speaker of the house he is a now he is in line for the presidency and he has decided already that he is going to be even more of a kiss ass then paul ryan i mean we should know this is the guy that picked out trumps favorite skills to give him when he goes to the he calls mike kevin diverse i'm sorry it was only pink starbursts from my kevin to don he calls him my kevin and you know what you are his cabinet you are so his kevin so i mean it's it's the reason why we take us back because if it if it remains in republicans hand republican hands is there any doubt that the day after the election kevin mccarthy in donald trump are going to shut down this investigation and we will never hear from robert muller from rod rosenstein from any of these people again i mean it will happen immediately when it will be the end of the wanting to know to which i think is like oh only collision matters we actually quite recently had a debate as to whether or not the president can obstruct justice his name was book lynton and there are many many members of congress and senators who voted to impeach him and then remove him for office for obstruction of justice which now the republican president does not believe is a crime does not free an impeachable totally fine totally cool why does this matter to people it matters beyond this russia investigation medically at fox had just sort of a great very good piece is a very good piece about this and he said if this is right if this legal argument is.
