"Maybe isn't the best to covering the tight ends just yet. That's what show here to do. You know we've talked about. Is he gonna wear to green dot. Which is going to be a position okay. He's going to be the guy that can cover somebody. I mean we've seen him pick off base and rudolf. Enough times. That i think and i think bend we be like okay. It's good to have some of this on our side. Finally what what is it with with the green dot. you know. that wasn't a big deal until just a few years ago. Now it's like. Oh they're the they're the head ranger you take out that power ranger and you take out all voltron. Does it matter who we making a big deal about the green dot. Well i don't know. I think it's one more way that we can separate one player from the rest. I think whenever as fans we see a player given additional responsibilities and additional duties. We think it's at the expense of everyone else. I don't think that's necessary the case here. I think this is a guy that you know. Maybe by him having a green dot. Maybe by him having the calls that let's bush just kind of run out there and free lance and hit dudes and ron and just be super athletic joy. I so i don't see it as a shot at the other guys. What i do kind of wonder about is we're gonna shelbert degreen dot and make it all the calls a guy that's been on the steelers roster. I believe at this point four days more than you and i yeah. He's watched about as much steelers footage as baker. Mayfield has so you know. Hey i don't wanna i don't wanna you know. Deflate the air out of this exciting situation. You know joe showboat a guy. We didn't even know we needed a week ago. Now is here to save our defense but look at the conversation on twitter. A lot of steeler fan super excited. But where were the jacksonville fans. It was a lot of crickets coming out of jacksonville as far as this. I don't even think jacksonville new. They had this guy on their roster where was blake bortles. Where was that guy. Come meeting us up at ireland's bar and grill walking in with his blake bortles jersey. Do remember that guy and then when then he switched to to what what what was divall. is that what. That's like the chant that's duval county florida. They go do all yeah. I was driving by ireland's all night. I didn't see blake bortles out there celebrating this. They're crying about the the departure of schober. What's that mean. When i look on social media and i don't see jacksonville crying peep about losing this. I think it's a little bit of a what a team was wanted. Fifteen hundred or whatever they were. They had the first overall pick. I don't think you're concern as a fan. Base is geez are linebackers are struggling in coverage. Like i mean sort of like you know. All my house was reduced to rubble. What a problem it had with the addict. I think it's it's i disagree with just a slight bit. I do think you know what i saw on twitter and maybe even slightly less toxic circles and you but i doubt it because it's twitter is that i think folks were worried about who what linebacker can cover somebody. I mean for lotteries. And so it's not nineteen ninety-seven anymore so you don't need to big dudes just running right at the line and sitting in the box and tackling your two hundred sixty pound running back duty the guy that can cover a wide receiver for a second and a half. And i don't know if we even had that guy before show came in. So i mean it's it's i think it's more like okay. It's almost like we went to a yard sale for like a house that got hit by a fire. And we're like okay. We'll take your painting and we'll give you ten bucks a state sales. I highly recommend it. Look hey don't be surprised. Steeler nation if our linebackers are still getting burnt by whiteouts out there you know. I don't think schober it's gonna come in and run made demand with dez bryant. Anyone out there you know maybe dez at this point bill. Yeah i mean. It was single people on twitter bryan. Yes i mean. I think it's a steelers tradition. Going all the way back to james farrior getting burnt out of the backfield by you. Know a jacksonville running back or if it's going to be a wide out so be it. I just don't think that we're gonna see the kind of success on defense that people are expecting with showed. I think we're still gonna have the same struggles that we deal with every year. I could certainly see that. I was going to say i can get go back even further. I can close my eyes. And i still see alfred papu running through the defense in the afc championship game with the chargers. But i think that. I keep coming like i said i come back to that thing about the second half shelbert can buy them an extra second half. Maybe the pass rush gets there may be. That's anger maybe that seismic maybe that keeps all four guys that are trying to block. T. j. watt may be that opens up that extra space. I think i think that's a bet worth taking because again. I keep sit with the alternative. Spelling wasn't buying that second of the half wonderful interception against lavar. And then i think that was kinda add like explain. Splaine's highlight reel is two plays right now and they were great play. He contributes at still a great little place. You can tell me a motivational speaker with those great place. And you're like dancer dine. Yeah I wanna pivot a little bit. This is still kind of within the deal. But kevin kevin colbert okay. People are just just a deluge of praise onto kevin colbert which you know wholeheartedly deserves every every. But let's not forget that he's not. He's not the perfect. Gm out there you know for every for every you know every schober signing we've had a larry green or who also had a couple of good plays against the bengals but he had honest. No one knew concussion. Thing anyone thrown off. I mean dante. Moncrieff or morgan burnett or blunt. Even bostick bostick. So you know we. There's a whole lot of praise out there. i've seen. I'm trying to find the tweet right now. I saw some some. Some guy was Had bought the a jersey with colbert. Put colbert on it that that might be. That's a bit much. I saw the tweet where someone had made their own. T shirt that said in the style of the godfather. It said the general manager. So there's already colbert. Merged wearing out there. If you if you're out there at the stadium with kevin colbert jersey than you know. More praise to you. But yeah i mean that's but you know this comes off to me a little bit suspicious a lot of this. I don't want to say. I don't wanna say that for a lot of fans that kevin colbert is our white night but there's another partner in the room with kevin colbert. And that's mike tomlin. Certainly who doesn't get the same type of praise. That colbert is certainly getting this month. Okay sure colbert has done. Great deals with. I'm thinking martavis brian. How he dealt him yes. Ab how he dealt how he went with that..

Breakdown of Ben Roethlisberger’s new contract

"Ben roethlisberger has a new contract. So what is what is the tweet. What's the headline the pittsburgh steelers. Send this out. We have signed quarterback ben rothlisberger to a new contract for twenty twenty one period. That's it what. I'm sitting there reading this thing and they can't be serious they cannot be serious. Said that's it. We've signed ben rothlisberger to a new contract for twenty twenty one. What are you talking about. He was already under contract for twenty twenty one. His salary cap hid for twenty. Twenty one was forty million dollars so we knew that he was. I'm reading this thinking. What in the world they talking about. This is the worst headline writing or is just the dumbest story i've ever seen in my life and so you're wondering okay. I gotta go to this article. Because i need to see what in the world they're talking about and so you click on it and it's literally three paragraphs the pittsburgh signed ben rothlisberger to to a new contract for twenty twenty one. It was announced today. Okay what does this mean a new contract. So here's what general manager and vice president. Kevin colbert says quote. We are excited. We were able to come to an agreement with ben rothlisberger on a new contract for him to return to the steelers in twenty twenty one pause a new contract for him to return to the steelers in twenty twenty one. He was coming back anyways. I know that they wanted to give the salary cap down. What a what do you think we are idiots. Let me continue quote. We know the ben can still played a high level in do special things for this team. Our goal remains the same to put together a roster that will compete for another championship. We are happy that dan will be one of our leaders to help accomplish that goal. End quote

"The system just develops wide receivers or the GM is picking these gems. Year in and year out in the draft. Why had the Steelers what's the main reason to Steelers have been able to get this great wide receiver production out of the draft of the last decade? Well, you know, they have had some misses. You know Marcus wheat and I believe with second round third round Sammy coach was third round. No, all of them have hit But you know, for the most part, you're right. And the G M. Ah, I'm just he's been the only constant. They have had a lot of scouts that have been there for a long time. But I I just got to believe it's the GM and, um they could have used a running back. JK Dobbins would still look very good in that lineup, but man Chase Claypool. He's a big man who could run deep fits in perfectly with his attitude. He's a tough guy on special teams. Yeah, there's a great pick. Great pick. I don't know what the secret sauce is. Kevin Colbert. Kevin Colbert probably has a better idea, but he's way too humble to take the credit, so it probably will never be known exactly why they do nail these wide receivers. We have a minute left. So here's a chance that's the holiday season. Want to tell us about Polamalu? You know, I think it's the defining book of that era. When the Steelers won three Super Bowls. They were driven by defense as much has been helped them. It was a defense driven team, and he's the only Hall of Famer. Probably gonna be the only Hall of Famer from that defense. And he was You know, we'd make a case later in a book that he was the Holy spirit of that defense. I have some religious guises. That is going too far. Some of them said Yeah, but some of them said he was a small voice of God on that team. He was he was, He was the voice. He was the quiet, meek guy. Who turned it on on the field of just such an interesting persona in Pittsburgh, and I my intention when I wrote it was for kids to read this kids of all ages because It's not a challenge book, but I think he's the perfect role model and he was so mischievous and such a prankster that there's a lot of funny stories that go along with this guy who we consider a monk. Just how spiritually he wa so it is. Just a complex, interesting person is 430 pages. It just blows by. It really does. It's not. It's not burdensome, not onerous, but it doesn't define It's going to be the definitive book of that. That decade of excellence by the Steelers and their defense, All right, we look forward to reading it. Good Christmas present. The name of the book is top Palla. Mollo, The author is Jim Wechsel of Steelers Digest. We thank you. Jim have a safe and half the happy holiday season and hope talking again soon. And right now, you could only get it..

"Half past headlines we start with the NFL and the NFL is planning on having the ana and NFL mock draft trial run before draft day draft April twenty third are they want to test out the technology involved in a very complex multi tiered communication where general managers we making selections from their homes now Steelers long time GM Kevin Colbert said in a conference call that he'd like to see the draft at three rounds to it because a lot of the uncertainty around the prospects the falcons today introduced to their new uniforms the eight TL letters very prominent on all three of their jerseys a lot of back and forth between them in the Panthers about about how they look Ian Rapoport is reporting the Redskins are do are considering drafting a quarterback number two overall instead of chase young there's a rumor that the Chargers may trade slot corner Desmond king was an all pro in twenty eighteen and pro football focus says the poll is a poll question should the forty Niners tree down from number thirteen sixty seven percent of forty niner fans say now we talk about the draft next rob rang was your Hafez headlines now back to Tolbert Krueger and CKP on KNBR one oh four five and six sports leader red red joining us drafted Ellis's we get from rob NFL draft scout's is joining us as August on vehicle might guess let rob we do appreciate the time her the Taubert Krueger and Brooks show hope you and yours are doing well Sir we are thank you very much to have you as always I hope the listeners are well also that is good to hear and we are doing fine and got our fingers crossed for a for the bay area northern California at large before we get into individual players I I just want to ask you you've been doing this for a long time do you think the draft is going to be different because things are now difference whether it's just the actual execution of the draft you know no war rooms no central location it's going to be all remote and also just the fact that you have been able to kind of really get two guys medically although I know you have it at the combine you know scouting in person pro days that kind of stuff is gone by the wayside for obvious reasons do you think that'll have any impact whatsoever on the draft I do I get that multiple impacts I don't wanna you know just obviously when you have everybody doing this remotely coaches and their homes general managers and their old scouts in their home it could take a lot more you know work to be able to communicate on the clock you know what what should the both our clients there is there's that that fifteen minutes the first round in the short time allotments on the pitch after that you're gonna just wipe on botulinum purity last trades want the drop really get going I think you're gonna see teams are going to be a lot less willing to go with players you have character red flags especially players read medical red flag because as you mentioned while the combine itself went on they had because they change their planet fart that combine recheck some players like to attack a well of course I took advantage of the opportunity to have a third party your medical practitioner in value extended and spend those records out all thirty two NFL teams that have the measurements for a long time NFL teams don't trust anybody but there but their own doctors themselves I think that unity some players who maybe are you know had real big names they're gonna wind up dropping down the draft board right now just because teams are so scared about the medical process Robert M. you know it's funny everybody's got their their mocks at Jeremiah's got Henry Ruggs and Ross Blacklock coming to the Niners Charles Davis is going CJ Henderson Brandon I you Melkite purses cherry Judy and the Auburn corner no yeah big big but not getting or something and believe that's how it's pronounced who do you got who's your combo of for the Niners at thirteen thirty one hi she let you all the different names because a lot of of of candidates that make a lot of sense you know I I would jump in with the same number thirteen overall I really think that Hillary Rodney from our data cloud accent that straight line speed how did you pair him where it would give us and we all you know I I feel absolutely confident Dante Pettis gonna figure it out I think it's the three of them really complement each other very well if you receive a position of course but you know at the tight end or running back position there's going to be easy enough it's sad yeah I think if you have the guys you can run away from people that the foreigners already have people Samuel and George tenet was specially when you add a younger player to gotten castrate wisely I think that it makes you will drop to about much more effective for number thirty one overall there's been a lot of confidence for the Irish consider trading back with that number thirteen I get that by the time you have the the drop that you have a hundred and twenty five elections from Seattle heard from families goes second first round pick number thirty one all the way down to the fifth round you gotta requires more picks up if you're asking me to make that I'm locked up right now I. P. number thirteen overall goes Henry drugs number thirty one overall but we are straight back tried you cannot fix to get teams are gonna want to back up in the early portion the first round to be able to get the fifth year not working contract get first round picks get but no other players in the draft our receipts Hey rob do you think it would make sense this year being that this is all brand new and they're doing it virtually about an extra five minutes per team it's not like we're going anywhere we have some more data we have dinner reservations or we want to watch something else they could do is to have somebody like talk football or kind of football and we watch I mean were there we were kind of starving for things to watch that that's live and being that there could be issues this year I'd be scared that the communications go down trade them trying to get a hold of somebody else they have problems now I can't do it because trading but wait it trade the fluid obviously get away and see what happens in the draft so I don't know to me this year fifteen seems like enough but being that it's all new I would be for an extra five minutes between picks just to make sure these guys have it there's not enough time to do what they want to do a maneuver like they want to maneuver no I agree yeah I think that it's it's it's wise to be anticipating that there's going to be finishing back that it's not only your idea that is five minutes okay Cordelia afterall decision to do this mock draft a lot people crash mystery about that but that's the that's the reality of the situation you know there's a lot of it doctor doesn't fancy football draft online that you have to worry about your your you know your teammates you know breaking into your resume conversation they're grappling here next highest recorder back yeah yeah I I like I like did the fix for Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert had a idea of extending the draft three more rounds for the end drafted free agents since that way it's not just the cluster that would be normal yeah I think that's a really cool movie on his life especially for a player like our our guy like colder than most dealers other teams have been around for a long time they've already got their you know their roads gods and and develop a contact with these players nearly huge advantage over state team that maybe it had some transition the scouting department over the last couple of years so Sir Ken who called her to say that I think is that the only indication of where the leaders are unless they're trying to be fair trying to defeat coal artillery idea that would be if you really want to change things operate so going back to the point about how we all have a locked up don't have a lot to do with a lot of time on your hands I thought why not make every single round it's only day and so the first Thursday and you have it's just the first one rounds them the first accident first thirty two picks and then the next day to have time to to kind of deal regroup have some conversation the next day the second round next to the third round I think that that would definitely extended out into the the sports loving a population out there would definitely get the sale and alien looking that much in your faculties not to make a mistake secondly the franchise back a long time talking draft NFL draft with rob rang to follow him on Twitter simply at rob rang Jordan love quarterback out of Utah state getting a lot of heat how much of that he is legitimate and how much of that is there's only so much you could talk about with to a Joe burrow and and Herbert out of Oregon while there's a legitimacy children after school their content out there who really like your life isn't Calipari waiters I I just do not want to I think the Jordan loves a solid player I think did I gave my fourth rotary five talk to you that first round player you know I didn't get the gale Jones to go in the first round and I would argue that if anybody to watch the way Daniel Jones played last year in November and December when I start to get cold and they saw the lack of arm strength that was the real problem for a lot of us yeah I wish you profit the thing with your love yeah here's a how they'll be arm he has great field vision yes great catch on to that combination allow you to make some incredible flows that you talked a but we had to put the ball on the line I I didn't see that type of a loss is not his personal on face value of course the scene involved with all the mobile for twenty years well now in my personal opinion quarterback your mom in the stands three days in a row you don't make up with roasted screen first round pick and I just have a hard time getting behind all the but I don't think that there there's a quarterback shield I've changed my tune on really quickly after watching the person but you may still be one of them couple years ago I I would very much one of his critics until the week of the king of all Asia yeah but I did not you have to go a lot I do think there's absolutely a chance that somebody jumps in the first round picks in the first round elimination before that they have a great joke would make a lot of sense for you guys to trade one of those first round picks look who's the more draft capital this year but with Jordan love specifically I think that this is a lot of dollars about a quarterback they frankly is not a gift to the three quarterbacks are gonna be selected ahead of them in order Joe burrow I think you got a chance to jump ahead of two a because of the medical question to but then of course you are who are my opinion is the the colonia pastor of this group that obviously comes the medical inside because she we're talking to rob rang on the Macassa mine my good buddies from that long long time ago right you know if you're doing both right you get the school going teaching school and you're you're doing the scouting thing how you how you coping during the shut down right now and are you are you still doing both you still are you teaching through zoom so what are you I'm doing either at this point no I I how to be doing well well you know the size of the drop down list and try and provide fuel level media and Lindy's sports when they are little more scared on your own program thank you guys so much for having me I am very proud teacher at Mountain Home high school in Tacoma Washington are you always used to resume it is through online assignments and things like that I I the teacher per eighty class so while our state like yours the the other governors decide that your own in my opinion these correctly ruled that that we should not be in school at this point that very much education still going on in the AP test that was in may so I'm very much trying to keep my students motivated by listeners the big side about the actual draft well robin that being said who are your food would be yeah I know I know you're here I'm here to talk draft in the the audience wants here but that your favorite prospect just without us leading in any direction you know you you have your favorites give me one or two of them who who really art are you excited about going into the strap well I like alphanumeric market students on the island so many of them but often a player but I don't think it's enough national attention that I used to be such an intriguing guy that you know being here in the Seattle area of course is that the the rivalry before you guys miss the oxen had she been just watching the way those two rookie wide receivers Deebo Samuel of course the forty Niners and he came back after Seattle the way they took off I see a guy in this draft class I think in some ways similar because of his ability to bounce off of would be tacklers and take it to the house and that would be tolerable discussion all I love this the.

Browns Dismiss GM John Dorsey Days After Firing Head Coach Freddie Kitchens

"Let's get to it Sadly adly mark we gotta start with the browns. How did we get back here? We're back we're back to the bounds being the browns. They have fired yet. Another general manager her Cleveland parted ways with John Dorsey. After two years on the helm the team announced made that move official after it was reported in multiple places. The decision to move on from Dorsey comes just two days after the Brian Brown's fired head coach Freddie Kitchens at the conclusion of the regular season Dorsey had a meeting with. Jimmy has them the team owner earlier. Tuesday the two sides according to Tom Palacio We're talking about possible. Structural changes that would curb Dorsey authorities GM but when the two sides can come to an agreement it was over mark Feels like Cleveland. Even though the better roster is back to square one in terms of dysfunction and just in general question marks about the present and the future and I can't and even begin to understand how you must feel the frustration of well. I'm of two minds because the first is they're just more proof that the browns the constant mode is sort of developing farce. I mean whatever whenever you think that they've turned a corner. They're actually just going in a circle back to where they were before for. And there are a lot of disturbing reports and whispers coming out of Cleveland that the ownership and we know this is not not shocking. Can you think about it. But the but they continue to be very impatient with all their decisions and the people they hire and so the question now and I think that the I've never seen the fan base this deflated because of where they were a year ago at this time. Or let's say seven months ago to now but because it just doesn't seem to matter to most people who they hire and it's too it's too de energizing using to get excited about fill in the blank coach and the from the other side though I will say this had they kept John Dorsey. It would've narrowed the candidate list of who was gonNA come and work with that next team by a lot so I think if you're going to keep doing this but do you agree with that. Dorsey wasn't the guy to be leading the charge. Because everyone seems it to be an agreement that he was a guy that came in the obviously inherited. Sasha's bountiful gifts and had some hits has mrs but had some big hits to me it all feels a little premature to take him out of the equation but this organization has done. There wasn't a straight firing right. They just say couldn't get different visions on how they saw the football operation going full hundred percent. I think they wanted to keep them and they talked about how much they liked him. But John Dorsey is probably very prideful and not going to take what is it what is when you're changing title it also demotion what else is it and the thing is he he. It's hit. It was his decision number one to go with Freddie Kitchens and they they ignored Paul does recommendations of Kevin Stefanski DEEPA. Desta also wanted. Sean McDermott in the past. So I think what they were saying. Was We kind of trust. Paul Podesta's voice in in this at this time around and that's not something that again. It's kitchens fall. It's a soup of Dursey for hiring kitchens more recently. Stunning fall though we were at the owners meetings and at that point John Dorsey was the toast of the NFL. I read them in the top five of my GM rankings. no-one no-one said Oh that's that's too high. I mean like it was very recent who is five. Oh who's right behind him. Thomas demetre was five. Kevin Colbert over three but It is amazing how much talent he acquired in a short time and he's gone but I think they've gotten it wrong so many times of not having the GM and the coach align that act. I do like I like I think that needs to be on the same page. Yes at every time. So I'm fine with it. It's deflating to the point of heartbreak for for Browns fans that last year at this time this job was seen as one of the most coveted in the league with a young talented nucleus. And you're finally going to bring the winter to Cleveland and now it's senior reading reading stories that executives say that's the one place I would not go and you're right back to where you were if some of these coaching tree scenarios were cal Shanahan and has a number of people interviewing with the browns. He was there he's he. He demanded his way out of the building. You got you know the bill. BELICHICK's of the world are going to be telling these guys be careful because yes. It's great for you to go on and get a head coaching job. But the DNA here is that you won't be there. Four hundred as has made it clear in his press conference Thursday that the coach would be part of hiring the GM which sounds weird. But I know that's fine but it means that the coaches ultimately the GM's boss Asif you get hyper and that's fine as long as it's defined ahead of time if that helps them get mcdaniels fancier whoever it is that they want in the door. That's fine it it just makes makes it clear that it's the coach. That's in charge and function and dysfunction always starts at the top and sports and since the has them's joined there on their fifth took over team. They're on their fifth coaching search and seven years and John Dorsey is the fifth different person or group heading up the football operation in that same seven seven year that has to be unprecedented. I mean there are at least just third that work in at least the third that only had one year really which is why

"It Celtic at eight pm eastern than it's nuggets trailblazers both series tied at one game at peace figure to be dynamics. There. NBA countdown gets it all started at seven eastern. Let's go back to the NFL back to some football and back to a recurring theme and its general managers talking the sums the Steelers last month. Ben Rothlisberger signed a two year contract extension worth sixty eight million dollars that should speak for itself. As far as the organization's commitment to him. But that wasn't enough earlier this week Steelers general manager, Kevin Colbert joined the podcast, and at this to say about the extension and Ben's future. Quote. I know he doesn't have an expiration. Date. He doesn't need money. He doesn't need all credentials in my opinion. He's already achieved both of those what he wants is more Super Bowls. And that was a big part of why we were willing to do what we did. And now it's our job to help him. Help us get there. Dominic. I'm just looking at your face. And you just you look a man in pain because it's stupid like first of all, obviously, the expiration date even been rothlisburger. No, the expiration date because he's talked about it at Ozzy at the end of many things he talked about how he feels like he may be coming up on that expiration date. It's also stupid because Kevin called your job is to anticipate the expiration date and prepare for the expiration date. So either you're lying to us or you're not very bright. And it is bothers me again, we're talking about this theme of GM's being more and more outspoken. Kevin Colbert is another one he's outspoken GM's because he was the same one who essentially called all of the Steelers children except for Ben Rothlisberger. Who who implicitly is their father is nonsense because it just feels like Kevin Colbert is like. A nerd who was really into this one jock and really wants to impress them. He's leading this cult of been Rothlisberger. When is not as it's been Rothlisberger has been good like that experts date might already be here. He's already throwing back passes. And it seems like this. He's in opposition to AB. That's what it feels like this is all about that. It feels like a binary you have to choose AB or you have to choose been. He's all in on been which is fine. But it doesn't mean you have to be delusional in stupid way to that's interesting. You think the Steelers are still being affected by AB, even though he's gone off? And I agree with you. How long does the effect keep going is it as long as Kevin Colbert continues to make it about that? I don't know. I I'm not in the locker room, obviously. And I don't know how anyone feels or thinks. But he suggested me that they must feel that been Rothlisberger needs some reassurance. Like, they they drafted a quarterback in the third or fourth round not too long ago and been Rosberg came out and was like outspoken that he's not near the end of his and then soon after getting a little tired. I don't know if I could come. Back for another year. So that interception editors through. There was one that he tried to blame on the radio..

"What did you make of all this? I appreciate the league or react, this swiftly would've fine. I think that number is just I just felt like each teens fine money went to the local community. And at the end of the year. You see the video of yourself acting out it make the player look at it different intimate the community look at it different present a big shake and give it back to the Philadelphia community where this act took place. Maybe we'll work on that. After the season. In the meantime, to college basketball is we get up and go John Calipari says his guests is PJ Washington will not play Saturday for Kentucky against Wofford J will how big a loss of eight. That's a major loss. He is their best player. He's been a guy that's really grown into being. The signature player for them low. Now, the crazy thing is that they took him out of a walking boot any put him in a real cast. You put somebody in real cast that gives me the interpretation that there's a little bit more there than what you're alluding to. I'm a little bit concerned he tried to downplay the significant of the cast Calipari did, but I agree with you. Every teams Kentucky to win the whole thing. So that's why he's really congested. Nervous and into the other Phillies team. And that's Bryce Harper. They get to home runs in a spring training game on Thursday Rutledge. What does he look like in the middle of that Phillies lineup? So he looks great. And obviously it's good to see him get the power going. But the one thing that I liked a lot is the fact that there was a foul ball that he hit before the second home run. That thing was a rocket shot in the exit velocity on these home runs. Makes you feel really good about where Bryce Harper is at this point. He is going to be dominated billion billion half a billion. Out of the ballpark on getting up and going he'll get to some football with you as well. Because Levy on bell. We all know signed that huge free agent deal with the jets last week after not playing at all in twenty eighteen with the Steelers, and then he did this interview with Sports Illustrated, and he opened up about his former quarterback Ben Rothlisberger. There's been so much conversation about whether or not rothlisburger with part of the problem with AB and how about with Levy on. Here's what Levey unsaid quarterbacks are leaders. It is what it is still a teammate at the end of the day. You're not Kevin Colbert, you're not art Rooney ban wants to win, but Ben wants to win his way, and that's tough to play with Ben won a Super Bowl. But he won when he was younger. Now, he's at the stage retry is to control everything and the team let him get there. So there are more critical words from a former Steeler now occurrence dealer marquees pouncey wants to Instagram to defend Ben Rothlisberger said I bet with Ben going on ten years. I swear my kids. He is a true leader sucks to see players who are leaving are mad at the organization now, try and point fingers. Like they are perfect. But this is the world we live in. Now, I have been waiting for someone to stand up for Ben in Pittsburgh. It has finally happened. Let me bring d would into the conversation. The one the only Damien Woody. What are your thoughts on all of this with levian gone and taking shots AB gone and taken shots? Patsy. Defending Ben Rothlisberger. What's your take? Do. You would. Well, I just feel like it's all miss. Why are we still have these type of conversations, you know, you've talked about in Tonio Brennan Levy on Bill. Listen, fellas you with.

"We'll try to get to as many phone calls as we can we start things off in Detroit. We talked to Jeremiah on CBS sports radio. Was that gal Jeremiah go ahead? I think you make a good point with Gruden. And I think there's a lot of room for him to make. But as far as Tonio around. I just feel like honestly, there's a there's a thing that you catch fire when you watch college ball and. It's something that players are playing for the game. And when you when everything comes and Tonio Brown, I just feel like he doesn't give a darn about the game. And he doesn't care. He just wants the money, and it's not inspiring. And it makes people dislike you. Public perception of Embiid take a hit and this last year, and I appreciate the phone call, Jeremiah, no doubt about it. He needs to return to the AB when nobody knew who he was or when he had the first two three years of success because that was a fun story that was easy to root for this last year. He was a massive a massive headache. And he still put up really good numbers. But a headache. And hey, I'm all for having an ego. I'm all four caring about yourself. When you play football though, you have to find that line of caring for yourself because you should try to get the most money as possible. However, not acting like a fool and this past year AB. Yes, he wins at the end of the day. He gets his money. A lot of people. Those started to laugh at him and say, yeah, I'm out on this guy. And it shows you buy what the raiders only have to give up to get him a three and a five. This was last year when he was available at you would have to probably give up two first round picks and song. However, that's what happened a lot of people view as toxic, and he could change that perception and change that in Oakland. If it was only the issue with Big Ben and in Pittsburgh, and we'll see how that changes in Oakland. Let's go out to Oakland. We'll talk to actor actor what's going on. Hey, how you doing up? Yeah. I'm excited about on your Brown is best receiver in the NFL and David Jon Gruden and restructuring organization to win another Vince Lombardi award, and we have a lot of pict. Derek carr. Get protection last year with the injuries that he had in the past. I'm optimistic that we're going in the right direction and we gonna make the playoffs unless you ball. We're going the right direction. Well, yeah. If you're a raiders fan, you should be happy today. I would not say Super Bowl yet. You have a long ways to go. You could have all these picks. You have to hit on them. And when you have all these picks, eventually you're gonna find gold like I follow the team in Philadelphia. Living there. The sixers. They had so many assets. Yes, they hit on Joel Embiid. They hit on Ben Simmons. They also missed on Nerlens. Noel Jalil Okafor and Marquel? Foltz Gruden a Mayock will determine how successful this organization will become they will be by their drafting great to get in Tonio Brown. You have to hit on these draft picks Scott in Pittsburgh, Scott. Go ahead shoot. Doing great. Well, you know Easter Kansas City and San Diego and would I in? He just one man, and they troublemaker here in Pittsburgh. And we're glad to get rid of them. But at the same time. Got a good player. Yeah. You do. And here's the thing. Scott. You may call him a troublemaker, and and that's fair with what he did pull last year. This Steelers organization though, they have to take a good look in the mirror though. Because you add three great players. Now, you have one left bell and Brown are done and you did not win with them. You did not win a Super Bowl with those three. So yeah, you could say all Tonio Brown. He's a pain impossible to deal with troublemaker. Ben also has to take a portion of that blame. Kevin Colbert has to take a portion of that blame Mike Tomlin with all the distractions has to take a portion of that blame. However, you heard it a few weeks ago, pens, the guy Benz the guy in Pittsburgh, genuflect to he's the man everyone else in the roster is a child you have. Have to change the approach need coach to be a little bit more. Strict you need not to be a dictator, but you need to be the Tate data voice that players don't walk over. And now you have to see if juju and Connor. And there are two really good football players. How productive though? Are they gonna be with now the entire league knowing who they are? And and you're not bell last year. So that's on adjustment. But you had Brown for most of the season. How do you adjust post having Brown and bell then the longer being there? But also in that locker room. Do you have a little bit of a problem where people start to take sides on team? Ben, you know, what AB was a great player. He should still beer the people start to question the quarterback. Those will be very telling things to see how the Steelers survive this. And we'll find out and we'll know very early in the Steelers season what type of team this is. It's going to be very interesting off season for them. We got the Palm Springs Michael joins Zack yelp show. Michael what she got from it. Thanks for having me on the show. No problem. Go ahead. I think I want to say I mean, look everybody wants to say that a visa cancer. He's a problem child. He's this. He's that. Well, what about Big Ben didn't Big Ben have some law issues early in his career? No quite around go around riding a motorcycle breaking every bone in his body. We wanna quit on the team. You're saying that he wasn't good enough. I think in that organization. I think bench to blame. I think Tomlin's to blame. No matter whatever the problem is you don't tell your star receiver to go home. You you settle it out. Well, the big problem the big problem with with Ben the big problem with Ben is he went on a radio show, and he criticized being ABC's very sensitive, and you can't have that happen anymore. You can't. And clearly they're not going to change that because they said they Bank go do the radio show. And it doesn't matter. He he has every right to criticize who he wants. So yes, one chapter did close in the sales organization, and as I said there's a pie here. And there's a lot of pieces in the pie that do deserve the blame one of them ABC for his own Kevin Colbert deserves blame like I said I sound like a broken record. Now, Mike Tomlin deserves blame. And Big Ben deserves blame as well. There's no doubt about it. There's a lot of blame to go around. It's not just one person when you don't win a Lombardi trophy. Tom Lou, Michael, Mike, hang tight with this will get to match dive in when we come back, but I is Darwin Zuck with the latest CBS sports.

"And then with football with the combine I don't know how much time you spent on that class week. I can't spend any time. I find that combine to be ridiculous. I mean, a real so there's a couple of people that'll put major stock into it and in GM's guys shoot up boards. Whatever I think most guys all lean on the Dave Gettleman theory of of checking out the tape. Quotes that come out of it or somewhat interesting. So have there's one team that Kyle Murray say that he would love the play for one team was the giants any would love to play for the giants. And of all the teams now apparently the cardinals are seriously thinking about drafting, I'm number one overall with Kingsbury. But that's something isn't that the report to that? I guess he's telling people privately that that's what they're going to do with the number one pick. And I guess they trade Rosen, I suppose that could be posturing to right, if he's telling people, then guess, then people say, oh, well, I really want you're going to take them. Well, let's blow away. What's your offer? Yeah. It'd be something like that. Now, I still don't think the Dave Gettleman would take collar Murray. I just for some reason I picture Gettleman going for the bigger quarterback someone who's going to stay in the pocket seems more traditional. Yeah. And Dwayne Haskins is more of that guy. So I see him leaning towards that. But that would be very very exciting. That's what I would be rooting for. If I were giant's fan of Kiowa Murray. Just because I think it would be exceptionally exciting. It's still have questions, obviously, the guy I guess he was measured at five ten so he's not five five ten in eighth five eighth. So it's something to pay attention to. And if they if they end up not drafting a quarterback this year, then just like, well, the only way I think they don't draft a quarterback in the first round is if someone teams move up ahead of them to get who they want meaning Haskins Murray has skins even he I think has had quotes about the giants. You'll seems like it would be a very good fit boomers been talking about Haskins for two months now, I would say maybe even longer than that in terms of being the next giant quarterback. So we will see it looks like both would love to come here and play for the giants. But now is the tricky time, you know, who's going to maneuver themselves position themselves to move up and get these guys ahead of teams that need quarterbacks. And do the giants where there or do? They try to move up a spot or two to ensure that they get the guy that they want if indeed they want one of these two guys, that's the thing. We don't know, you know, get them. And I don't know what the guys thinking. I really don't. I mean, we had the whole thing last week. Luckily, you were not here for that. Which was good. And I was glad boomer wasn't here for that. But I don't know. I don't know what they're thinking. I don't know what direction they go into they draft defensive player. We'll find out. I think the quarterbacks the right thing to do. But we'll see what they do at the spot. And we got NFL free agency coming up in just a couple of weeks. So we'll be able to that stupid little tampering period where people signed guys without really supposed to sign guys. And did you see the Antonio Brown's sit down? Yes, I. Lebron one of the Jeff Darlington. Jeff Darlington ones. The LeBron when he was funny, though, did you I did not see that one. But he was LeBron sedan was at the show. I forgot. That's where he really letting loose. I did not really letting I thought he let loose with Darlington. What he said about that interception in Denver. Yeah. He he said that. Well, Ben, see I can't say exactly right. But he said Ben told me that I run a better route man u s to a blanket defensive. I was I I'm not a fan of Antonio Brown's behavior lately. But that cracked me up and all the guys are just falling over land through that blank to a blanket. Yeah. Very very strange and then the Darlington. One just added to it house, by the way is eighteen thousand square feet. They showed a couple of rooms in the house. And it was I forget how Darlington put it. But it was something along the lines of he doesn't have this home to throw it in your face. In more represents the Klein that he has had from the twenty five miles south of where he grew up in a very tough neighborhood, Brian. So that reminds him how he's gotten to where he is and sure still going to go because if there's a guy that's grounded its Antonio Brown. Right. I don't know that he's grabbing. I mean, this is a guy who really always thinks about where he came. And we get into later the quotes about Tomlin to in the week. Seventeen thing are interesting. Yeah. Yeah. He he also addressed that in LeBron do about told him to just basically, go home. Yeah. Now, I don't believe. I don't either. I I mean who's someone's lying here? Yeah. I know. I would tend to think of believe Mike Tomlin. I would I don't know. And that Kevin Colbert the GM. That that line is going to haunt him forever. The fifty two kids to kids. Yeah. And Antonio Brown's right about that. I agree with them. It basically cemented point. Yes. Almost as if Kevin Colbert was working for Antonio Bryant. He basically tells Darlington. Now, you see why I feel the way I feel exactly all right is boomer and geo on the family Jerry in four boomer this morning. Just getting started have you broken any twenty nine thousand nine resolutions yet? We gotta get new copier. It's March or any what he's New Year's resolutions anymore. Are we? We are we still don't.

"Reason he did is because the opportunity to be the lead analysts on Monday night. Football is too good for him the pass up, but all my discussions with him during that process, you could tell deep down this is hard for him to do. I think he's still felt that he had some meat on the bone. He's still loved to play. I don't think that ever Wayne his passion for the game. And I just think he listened to that and went through the process of and get a really good experience as an announcer this year. But I think he's still wanna play football. Honestly, I hadn't heard Jason GARRETT'S comments before I made mine, but it it just seems like it makes sense. It was an opportunity to good to pass up. And maybe if it had been as comfortable as seamless transition for him as it was for Romo, then he wouldn't be so anxious to go back to football. But it wasn't easy. Obviously he was around football all the time. It was still missing it big time. And it never know. I mean, if if if it hadn't been quite as much fun for Romo for almost didn't love broadcasting as much as he clearly does maybe he would want to go back to football to you. I mean, it's hard every pro athletes, not every the majority of pro athletes will tell you it's really difficult because there's never anything like it. Once you quit that very often. You're second guessing your decision to walk away. It's after hours on CBS sports radio want to mention this before we get to our updated the bottom of the hour. Antonio Brown is doing a sitdown interview or. Has done a sit down interview with ESPN, and it's not airing until the weekend. But it's something that he did it in conjunction with a tour of his childhood neighborhood in Miami. And he sat down essentially to to tell his side of the story. And despite what Kevin Colbert told us from the combine about how they're not completely and utterly committed to trading Antonio Brown and less they get a really good deal. In return. They're going to get a deal that works for the Steelers not just a deal to get him of town. And so here is an Tonio Brown. He's done a sit down interview. And he's talking all about how Colbert has confirmed his decision that he cannot play in Pittsburgh anymore. So just a sneak peek of this. He's still really upset about Colbert characterizing the Steelers as Ben Rothlisberger at the top and fifty two kids under him. Now. That was a really poor choice of words by Colbert. Let's be honest that it really was. They're not kids. They're not juveniles. They're not young men. I mean, these are grown men who play football for sport. And the idea that Rothlisberger is the king and the rest of them are all paupers or kiddos, just it's it's yeah. Was a poor characterization? And he did later try to backtrack on those comments. Just the point that he was making is that Rothlisberger was the unquestioned leader of the team. But of all of that grates on Antonio Brown. Not just the kids part. But the idea that Rothlisberger is somehow exalted over the rest of the team. And so he tells the SPN and this interview again you'll see over the weekend. What grown man is calling another grown, man. A kid like you don't have no respect for these guys. These are the guys that go to work for you. And that's what I'm telling you guys. That's my issue. It's all about respect things are not getting better. They're not changing. You know what I mean? He just stated that there's fifty two kids at this guy rothlisburger, bro. It's one team. So that's what it is man. Just understanding truths. All this reiterate what I said last night on the show. Oh, there's absolutely no way that bridge can be rebuilt. Absolutely not. They do not want to bring him back. Even if they don't get the sun the moon and the stars at a trade for him. All right. We'll get to your phone calls. Eight five five two one two four to seven on Twitter. If you have some explanation for what Jake Arrieta is doing a sweeping in his underwear. Andrew bogusch. To ask. No, no. I feel like this is right up. Your alley. It's not your little court. I don't clean. I don't wear Speedo so clean. No, I I do. Okay. Wow. Can imagine your wife puts her foot down with that. All the dirty work. So you don't clean in your under Reuss is what you're saying. No fully close. Thank god. Yeah. I didn't need that mental image on the Friday morning. So the the idea though of sweeping to welcome Bryce Harper in your underwear does that is there anything about that that you understand because I mean, I'm not a guy? So I I don't get it is there is some kind of inside joke. I don't know. I really I saw a headline is like I don't need to know any more about that. So I didn't watch it multiple times. Well times. That is multiple. Does qualify as many times. Do you watch Jake Arrieta and wonder what the hell is he doing? Yeah. I mean good for him. I mean, he seems a little crazy for this is not the first time. He's put up a weird video maybe Desmond fully clothed as well. Also, don't you wanna know who's taping him? I think there's a MRs Arrietta. Well there is but she's the one that then recounted I leave the guy alone for a couple of minutes. And this is what happened. Okay. That would seem to indicate that she wasn't the one who else would like to watch him sweeping his undies. Not me. Apparently. And some others credit the video replay auto, but you kept watching. Okay. I'm confused. They didn't look I'm trying to figure out what's going to stop talking. Oh, that's too bad. All right. It's a face palm Friday coming up something else that don't understand what are the Indians doing with their social media from spring training. Maybe were aboard. It's after.

"ESPN radio and the ESPN app. I'm Gabe nights. So and this is why anytime any player maybe holds on a little bit past their prime. I don't have a problem with it. This is all these guys have known more or less for large majority of their life pursuing the dream than living the dream. And granted Jason Garrett did have you know, the plan after he was playing and had a great opportunity on Monday night football a year ago. But if you still have that passion and love for the game and you wanna play, and I just ran over the numbers mean his his numbers is led the last time he played sixty three receptions, five hundred sixty yards five touchdowns, nothing earth shattering. But if you still feel like you can play and you want to play go for it. Good for him. But he has that opportunity. If it's something he loves to go after and that's kind of what Jason Garrett said that passion for the game is still there. And the passion for the game is still there for Antonio Brown. We still don't know where the Steelers wide receiver is going to end up the saga just constantly going on with the Steelers and with combine going on as I mentioned coaches GM's available to talk and Kevin Colbert earlier during the NFL combine saying that. Well, we we are we're looking to trade and Tonio we've had some teams reach out, but they're only going to make a deal if the deal is right for both sides. So the Steelers clearly wants to make sure that they're getting what they perceive fair value for Antonio Brown. But some of the what has gone on with this also deals with Kevin Colbert's comments about Ben Rothlisberger in empowering his quarterback to be a leader in that locker room. And he. Add some comments trying to prop up Ben Rothlisberger. Where he called the other fifty two players on the roster kids, and that really did not sit well within Brown as he has a sportscenter feature coming up this weekend. He talked with Jeff Darlington. This is going to be doing Saturday on sports centre. Here's an Tonio Brown on those comments from his potentially former general manager, Kevin Colbert,.

"And you don't you're cutting. Yeah. Trailblazer. Really what else you? Okay Antonio Brown. If it's if it's a day that ends in. Why it's more in Tokyo Brown. He sat down with Jeb Darlington. Wow. Talking now. So the trade talks must not be going to his liking. So the so the teas are clipped had tweeted out we have. Yeah. He addressed the Ben Rothlisberger. Kevin Colbert's fifty two kids comment about then pretty much is. Is laying what already had to everyone. He just confirmed it, and I didn't go about in a bad way. And said, I said it because I know fans my fans want to hear from me, obviously, I know there's some cultural issues, and some I mean issues that was already a hand, you know, I already knew, but I couldn't really say that because out of respect for the organism and for the members work with. I don't wanna put them in uncomfortable position. Ideally, grom is called another grown, man. The kid fifty two kids like like, you don't have no respect for these guys. These guys they go to work for you. And that's what I'm telling you guys that. That's my issue. You know what I'm saying? It's all about respect. Colbert said yesterday that the referred to fifty two kids. That's how he talks about them as what he said. And he will always say what he says in public what he says behind closed doors as referred to them as kids because none of them in the Super Bowl compared to the grown ass, man. Ben Rothlisberger who has grown has been roughest girl gets on radio show on Tuesdays and throws teammates under the bus publicly. Which is very interesting move. "S and remote broadcast today on the road of the NFL scouting Combi. From Indianapolis seats, pro football talk live. Let's do this Florio. Profootballtalk live here in Indianapolis site. The scouting combine NBC's radio NBC s and Hello to our friends. Join the program on Sky Sports US, they're still watching us. Hi, I think we're still on are. We saw Eric saying. Hello. Hello there. That's all gotten rid of his shed. I'm glad how you feeling today Estonia. I'm feeling perfectly. What's up, Mr. big? Jess. Hey, I don't know what happened the first time ever four plus years of doing. This is the best Mr. big go ahead four plus years ago on the show. And here's what I do. I set two alarms on my phone every night. Right. Never fail me. And I had a thing when I was in high school. If my alarm clock was right next to my bed. I was able to roll over and hit it and turn it off and go back to sleep and not realise it and one day. I like I woke up ridiculously late and missed the first two period. Yes. So I realized you got take the alarm clock and put it in a place where you get up and you actually walk. I've never had that problem since that. Right. So I got my phone on the nightstand. At the hotel, I got both alarm set. And the next thing I know the phones rang ringing at five forty four AM. And it's it's stats say where are you? Like, what's what's? And I looked at mine. My phone, and it said, no alarms. And it's no. Off sleep at turn both of them. All right, nothing better than waking up to a phone. Call from stats. That's a great one. And you're kind of off the hook. Okay. No. I mean, he was three hours. Eighteen minutes. He was three hours three hours for him. Is like thirteen minutes for you. You must have been stressed. You look a little tired today. They're just going to say it. But other than that, you know. I'd love this. Thank you. This is the best thing. I'm not tired. I'm not sick. I feel fine. Just happened. There's no reason. All right. Was I went back to the room after dinner last night. I worked I went to bed at eleven fifteen. There is no reason for me to be tired, six hours of sleep would have been perfect. I can get up at five fifteen I had one for five ten and one for five fifteen and I turned to both off and next thing, you know, staff. We'll find you. We'll just take it right out of your paycheck. It's all good. Don't worry. That's fine. But I'm here. Now, that's all that matters. Thank you. And by the way, here's the guy who didn't get to see where we're doing this thing where we're doing interviews all week right after the show, and so we're trying to be very slick about it. So when we play the interviews it'll look seamless like so we've been here the same calls for a guy who went to bed in what he wore rolled out of bed at five forty four A s with emergency wakeup call and came over here in what I was wearing yesterday. So I do also kind of gross that you're wearing the same shirt is yesterday. We're supposed to do. You know? I don't know. It's just not Clinton cleanse cleansing for. Yes. Yes. It's funny because I noticed your shirt yesterday had like a coffee stain on your wrist, and you had no. Thinking. Yeah, he ain't wearing that shirt. Tomorrow is gonna wear out. You didn't hear I don't know where I missed. I promise you I didn't. I thought we were going to wear like our NBC polo. I thought that's what the final determination was I so I just brought the I wore these because nobody said anything said, so I didn't know what to do. Sorry. All right. Back on track show. I'm the one that was on track until you decided to go down the I was late late for work. All right. Kevin Colbert was with his yesterday. And he said some things that I think we're very interesting, and we're gonna play some of them for you, two four interviews. Available proof profootballtalk dot com. Also, we had it on the PF PM podcast yesterday. But we asked Kevin Colbert about both Antonio Brown and beyond bell and want to start with Antonio Brown. Because we're at a point where it feels like the relationship isn't salvageable, and we asked Kevin Colbert among other things whether he thought at some point the relationship was salvageable, here's what Kevin Colbert had to say. Now, I think any any relationship is salvageable I've seen it. You've seen it game to game play to play week to week season to the next season. I mean players are very emotional. I know Antonio was very disappointed that we didn't get in the playoffs himself included. He wants to win the Super Bowl, and he's very highly competitive person. Did it unfold is as we all wanted to know world disappointed in that? Because you know, when when we spoke I said, I expressed my disappointment to him that we may not win a Super Bowl together. And if he goes into hall of fame, it may not be with us, and I'm disappointed because when I look at it I failed in not being able to to get the most out of that that group of players himself included. And I think he's disappointed and what we've all agreed on is. Okay. We'll look at maybe moving forward maybe moving on without each other. But again, as I've stated many times if it doesn't benefit the Steelers it won't happen. There's so much. We can say about that one thing that caught my ear as we were listening to that. Colbert saying that he failed to get the most out of that group of players. It's not his job to get the most. It's his job to accumulate. Somebody else has failed to get the most out of those players. Your name isn't Kevin Colbert. Sure. I mean, if if you if you were I think if he was rephrased that would go. Yeah, you're right. You're right about that. Mike tomlin. It's his job to get the most out of the players. Kevin colbert. It's his job to get the right guys in the building. Not only talent wise, even personality wise. I think you could say that too. I mean. Yeah, you gotta know what type of guy. That's why you know, teams organizations do background checks as far as just getting to know the players personality and what he's like off the field because they are they are thinking in the future. Wait, if this guy becomes a star. How is he going to act if we pay him a lot of money? How is he going to act as you can continue to buy into what we do as a team? And this is why we don't have issues like this with New England. I know New England's a special entity in that. But you know, what also caught my I mean every any any relationship is salvageable. Right. So to me, I I still don't think they're like, oh, he's definitely not going to be here as they're gonna let this thing play out. And the other thing is, you know, again, I just hope they they drive a hard bargain because they're on the hook for a whole lot of money, and they should not let a guy like Antonio Brown out the door for less than something that they truly feel is fair compensation for one of the best wide receivers and football. We'll spend that forward in a minute. But one of the reasons why they got to this point in the opinion of Kevin Colbert is their failure to make it to the playoffs last year. And he seems to think that they had made it to the playoffs. Everything would be fine. Antonio Brown would be happy. He would still be there. And I think this isn't a week seventeen thing as much as it's a week sixteen thing because after we met with Colbert, we kind of work backward is to where's the point where it all went wrong because it was Wednesday of week seventeen week while the Steelers were still alive, but they needed help. They needed the Browns beat the ravens in order to get in. That's when Brown went AWOL. I think it was week sixteen the loss to the saints in New Orleans if they win that game or if the ravens lose to the charges the night before then maybe there's a vibe that week. Seventeen. Let's go win. And we're in we're in the playoffs and everything's fine. So I think it was that week sixteen game that caused everything to fall apart for Antonio Brown. He had a big performance in that game juju Smith Schuster has the key fumble he gets named the team NBP a few days later. Right. And I think that all caused the planets to line up in a bad way leading to the explosion of the following week where Brown just said I'm out of here. And that that created the situation that led to where we now. Yeah. I think those were the all the examples you just us. We're kind of the final nails in the coffin. But obviously there was more to this than just that week or those two weeks. But I think it's a situation where it's always simmering. Yes, you're exactly right. Only takes one thing to turn it to boil that that turned it to boil that. This is all this has been there for the past few years. He and this is the one thing that turned the fire. He was on the edge of boiling, then he has the, you know, the so-called blow up at practice that we've heard about and that pushed him over the edge. And it was never salvageable. But. Even after that at least for that week. But then the other thing where I'll just push back against you know, what Kevin Colbert talked about a little bit is, you know. Of course, if the makes the playoffs and everything's ok well what what would happen. Then you tell me I wish I would've asked this yesterday. What happened? Okay. He sat out the game. And you made the playoffs. Let's say the Browns beat the ravens. Are you telling me that was going to be okay now that we made the playoffs? I think that's why he's talking about more week sixteen went off the rails sixteen. Okay. And and you're right now, I think that's another branch to this. If they had made it to the playoffs after he sits out the Bengals game. Shorted different. Then you got different products. Now, you're going into wild card weekend. And you're going up we're gonna play the receiver. We just sat out for breaking team rules and going off the radar. Let's play one more quick. Yeah. Leapt from Colbert what happens if the Steelers don't get enough in trade for an Tonio Brown. Well, again as a state earlier might players change from day to day week to week situation situation. We don't know how that would play out the way we've answered it before is we'll deal with it. When we get to that point again, we're open to it. If it works for both sides, great if it doesn't then it won't, and then we have to react accordingly. Not only the Steelers, but the player that may still be with us. We'll have to act accordingly. Look, I I just think that's news Antonio Brown. I think he's getting out or he thinks he's getting out. Yeah. And if the Steelers exhaustive process at the end of the day, they're not happy with the offer. And they say, hey Antonio Brown. You're still here. I don't think he's going to be thrilled with that we have to take into account the possibility. The Steelers are just puffing all of this. And they will take the best offer. That's on the table on March seventeen the day, the two and a half million dollar roster bonus becomes do. Colbert told us that they would pay him in theory, the money and hold him and trade him later. I don't think they'll do that. I don't think they will. I think that they're gonna take the best offer. They have on March the seventeenth. They are. I I don't think. So I think they're going to be willing to pay him this make it interesting. Yeah. I think they're gonna make. So you think they're going to pay him two and a half million dollars. I March seventeen and keep him or trade him later. No. I think they're going to yet. Both. I mean, either way whatever works out, but I think there are going to pay him, and they're going to wait this out because I think teams are going to think just what you're thinking right now. And they're gonna go, okay. We'll we'll throw some b minus trade offer out there for them on March sixteenth and see if they bite the hook and take that. And I just think they're smarter organization than that. And again, I just think with the way in Tonio Brown act, and it is good as he is. And everything about that. You can't let a guy caused functioning your team. And then just call the shots when he wants to get out of the team and go somewhere else to so I think they pay them hold them hostage. And try to find a good good trade partner. Gay take the best at dinner. Mcdonald's. Sure wherever you are. Next time..

"I guess and see if you can make it work, but you don't play Tony overall. Twice. All right. And we everything I wanted to make sure I asked both of you was about the comments that Kevin Colbert. The Steelers general manager made last week. They got a lot of attention first off he says that three teams have reached out to him about Antonio Brown. So that's the news piece of this. The other piece of this where the comments that he made about Ben Rothlisberger. And the notion that all the other players are kids used that term. We've also all the the controversy that surrounded that RC. What was your reaction understand what Kevin Colbert was trying to say, he's a person a main GM I had a ton of respect for who. He is as when he does his job. And also off the feel the way he could himself as a human treats players. So understand the point. He was trying to work to make. I think you just use. The Rome words when you got up in aids. And I train NFL players now who are rookies with owner first contract, and I talked to my wife, and I call them kids. And so I kinda get what he was saying. He was saying, you know, what been? Is the guy who has been there? He's done that. He's our leader. These other players behind him who don't have the experience who who haven't dealt with that success or achieve that type of success. Those guys need to get behind bent and follow his lead. But when you're talking about a Donut grom in they don't like to be referred to in that way. Whether it's kid, whether it's so Kevin Colbert has to understand that it was a misstep in the way that he spoke about the rest of the players on the Pittsburgh Steelers football team, Joshua. He joined me earlier this morning. We have an interesting perspective on this conversation. The way veterans treat younger players based upon your relationship with Sam darnold. Yeah. I mean, I have a modest daughter is just thinking eleven months younger than Sam. So I understand what it really means to be in there and feel like they're your kids. But at the same time, you know, maybe a poor choice of words, but you, but when you get into the locker room do you ever treat same darn like a kid? No, no, never because you got on the same helmet jersey. You're you're fighting for. The same goals. And so at that point it's about being together. And I don't think you would ever want to have the connotation of a less Dan by by calling somebody a kid or training to my kids. I get that the quarterback is a seal and you want him to be the leader. And all that stuff to understand the context in which he say, and it, but in this situation when you talk about this you gotta come up with Levy on with Antonio. It's not a good look to to say that bin is around his kids in talks to these guys like their kids. Yeah. Listen at some point. This is the most buttoned up franchise and all the sports. They have come unbuttoned. Ryan clark. Will join us getting before I go one more thing. I just want you to know. Even though you have Jalen A J will on the sit. You may still be sitting next to the best basketball player. That's in that studio right now, we've shown ADA show, Josh mccown. No, there's a basketball hoop upstairs. I'm after get these guys to play a little basketball later today. You gotta three three squad. They take going anybody. We will show that. Stood up as well. We'll see how we do. Thank you, are she we'll get back to you in our next hour here with more on that. Let me get back to Duke because this is Maria has basically spent her last week point without Zion. We know Duke beat Syracuse by ten over the weekend. They got thirty points from R J Barrett. He also had seven assists, which led to another eighteen points. We scored a resisted on forty eight of Duke seventy five points his most in a game this season. But despite that win and that performance the numbers still suggest do could be swimming upstream Zion. He should fifty percent Duke does excuse me shoot. Fifty percent was I on on the floor..

"So you can watch from anywhere coming up. Maybe Tony around is in the problem in Pittsburgh winding up to take shots at somebody else. You'll hear who right after this. Back on get up. And after Ben Rothlisberger through this game ending interception against the Broncos and a week twelve loss. He went on his radio show when he criticized the route that Antonio Brown had run on the plate ground, as you know, is now on his way out of Pittsburgh after a trade. Demand tweeted that Rothlisberger has an owner mentality. According to Steelers general manager, Kevin Colbert Robbins burger has earned the right to publicly criticize his teammates. These comments from the GM I've gotten a lot of attention. He said Ben is the unquestioned leader of the group. Like, I said, he's the elder statesman and the Super Bowl winner players were smart. They'd listen to him because he's been there. He's done it. He can tell them. No guys. What you're doing is not is or is not good enough to do this. And honestly believe that could be a burden on him more often than he may like to admit he's got fifty two kids under quite honestly, I want them to step up and say, hey ban. What do I have to do? Can I do this better? What do we have to do to win a Super Bowl? These comments have gotten a lot of attention. We're delighted to have Dominic Foxworth who's in town too, high noon later today was able to stop. By here and give us some perspective on that. So when you hear the comments calling the teammates, kids, etc. What is your reelection theory aiding obviously, and it's stupid because it doesn't help anyone first of all it's wrong. And it's a natoma to football culture everywhere that I'm so we've heard a bunch of players say yesterday that the mentality and a locker room is every man's thing. Bill Belichick trees Tom Brady. Theoretically, the same way he treats everyone else raising any particular player to a higher pedestal than any other players something that no football team has ever preached and believed it, and then the second reason why it's a guy who's a GM who's supposed to have good strategic vision. This doesn't help anybody. This isn't good for Ben Rothlisberger. When he tries to rent the locker room. This isn't good for his teammates. This isn't good. For tomlin's. Not good for the Steelers is not good for the GM himself. The only person that it seems like someone good for is Antonio Brown. Because all this does reiterate that things that we all we all heard Antonio Brown say, and we kinda discredited some of us discredited because all that Antonio Brown. But note, it seems like it is the case Ben has the owners. Taliban, and they support I was struck by how extraordinarily passionately so many football players reacted to this guys who are usually measured. Yes, why? Specifically, what is it that bothered people?.

"The quarterback who will not be throwing to Antonio Brown are handing off to beyond bell. Things are going to look really different for that. Member of the killer bee the now defunct killer bees, it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. But even as general manager, Kevin Colbert was talking about bell and Brown and not using the tag and liking the production of Connor and Samuel's. Then why they're parting ways with these two guys. He also backed Ben as the unquestioned leader of the locker room who has the right to criticize teammates if that's what he thinks is necessary. Now, you remember Brown has balked a little bit. Turns out more than a little bit. But he had balked in the past at times when Ben called him out publicly and Ben has done. So whether it be on radio shows, whether it be in press conferences, when he felt like that fire needed to be lit or realit- under Browns. But and it's not like Brown is the only guy that he has done this with. He has the complete and total support of his general manager to do exactly that. And Colbert goes back to a recent example in the postseason as a way to prove that band leadership is not only necessary, but it's a huge piece of their success. Anyone ever wants to question? A leadership of this this player. The you know the Jacksonville game. I saw it firsthand when we come in the locker.

"It's all right. Thank you. Kevin richardneer in for boomer and geo on this New Year's morning, and we're pleased to be graced by the presence of Bob Gobber for Newsday. Covering football uncovered. The giants, Bob. Thank you so much for joining us. How you doing? I'm doing great Richard happy new year. Thanks for happy new year to you. Well, we're having this ally Brady argument at caller brought it up yesterday. I'll get you involved in this thing. And the the question was if he played for the patriots were they have the kind of success they've had under Brady and afraid he played for the giants with the giants have been better than they were with Eli. And I say first of all there's no way of ever knowing that. But Secondly that you know, Brady has had the coaching one guy all these years that are surrounding cast all these years with the patriots have won more championships with alive than Brady. Probably not. But what are your thoughts in in terms of if we were in an alternate universe? And Brady was with the giants instead of Eli. Man. I I think Brady is just a better player. So I I mean, I think that. I would not have as many championships with the patriots. Despite having great coaching chick is is the best there is. And there there is generally a a better supporting cast over the years in England but in New England, but they're they're years. You know, it's he's throwing a ROY Brown or you know, kind of middling crew of relievers. So I just think Brady is the better player, and and judge it on that. And I think that the giants would have more success if Brady were their quarterback over a long period of time. Then then Eli. I mean, I'm not taking anything away from me life. He's had a tremendous career. I think he's hall of fame worthy. I think it'll be a debate. You know, when it comes time to to him for the hall of fame. But I just think Brady is maybe the best player of all time. And Eli manning is not in that discussion. Yeah. Yeah. And Brady there's no discussion of whether he's in the hall of fame. They suspend the rules and say, okay, the second you retire. You're in buddy. So. You say on that Tom Brady state, whoever is going to make that Iran. Gorgeous is the patriots representatives. He stands up Tom Brady. Thank you, very much drop the mic, and that's it. And that's all you need to truly a man who needs no introduction. Tom brady. What's the discussion though was with would would have had comparable success? And you know, I agree with you. I don't think the patriots would have been as good with ally. I think the giants would have been better with Brady, but it would be interesting to see the comparisons. Then because Brady probably wouldn't have been as good with the giants as he was with the patriots because he wouldn't have had the the coaching and surrounding cast is much. I think I I agree with that. And you know, there have been years and the last couple of years in particular were meetings, all sorts of lines have not been up to the standards of the patriots and New England. It's one thing. Bella chick has always had is good offense. Of lines. And he said good offensive line coaching. Dante score NICKY as a thousand years old, and he'll never he'll never leave Bill Belichick side of Bill bell chicken help it. And that's extremely important for any quarterback in previous had it. He's had the benefit of that. You know, collectively the best offensive line play over eighteen year period that that you can ever remember. And that you're right is a huge huge factor. A huge factor. You know, we talked about offensive line's forever. With the giants. Let me throw this Antonio Brown thing. I'm sure you've heard the story at this point. Boy that takes guts to venture guy like that. When a game you're playing for your life. And there was no guarantee that Baltimore wasn't going to lose to Cleveland. They almost did what do you make of that situation? It's a really toxic situation with Antonio Brown. I I kind of go back to every time an incident happens with Antonio Brown. There have been several than this year is not the first he's said some things he's done some things that are, you know, just just not team I behavior, and I think, wow, you know, Beckham he gets criticized for a lot of the same things, but he is not nearly the disruptive player, then Tonio Brown isn't to get into the altercation. And apparently was with Ben Rothlisberger. They had a dispute on Wednesday. Tony brown. Basically walks out doesn't return to practice. Mrs walk through on Saturday expects to play on Sunday against the Bengals and dozen and Mike Tomlin has basically had it with him. This is this is a really difficult situation. You know, your your best offensive player is is is what in in a lotta ways. He's just he just it's mind boggling, and it it's it's disturbing because this is not what you expect from your best player. He's had a lot of money over the years. He got a new contract not long ago, and he's not living up to that. So this is a really toxic situation moving forward. And they're going to have to make a decision here. They've basically they just bite the bullet and say, well, that's it. That's that's maybe that's in Tonio and they move on. But I think that Mike Tomlin seems to have drawn a line in the sand on this one in that kind of behavior cannot be tolerated. When you're the head coach, and the interesting thing is we've we've held. The Pittsburgh Steelers as a model organization with all the success. They've had over the years the continuing success with the stability and not a lot of coaching changes. And all of that, you have Brown acting the way he did and levian bell. For whatever reason, I mean, you know, if you're talking team, they would have been a better team with him and instead for more money, and he sat on an entire year and wouldn't accept what would have been good franchise amount of money for them. So he can't be considered to be necessarily a team player either. And yet this team has done very very well over the years with these guys. Yeah. I I think the reason they've done very well. Kevin Colbert is a name that is not really a household name around the NFL. But he is one of the best talent evaluators the general manager there. And that's why they succeed over the years because they don't have to repay players on their second and third contracts if they can avoid it. They keep drafting good players. They. Afford into the salary cap. But you know, every now, and then you're going to get this kind of situation, you you you rarely see a player sit out entire year and living on bell made a business decision. It was a it was a gutsy one and it was a risky one. But I think that the end of the day he's gonna he's gonna get paid a ton of money, and maybe by one of the teams in New York, and that's not the giants. So I think Levy on Bill is going to at the end of the rainbow is gonna find that pot of gold, basically after making a tough decision and leaving the Steelers and alerts to some degree. But James, Connor. I is a guy who kind of picked up the ball and had a terrific season. When he got hurt. That's when they really missed Levy on Bill later in the season. And that's that's really where it did hurt them, and perhaps cost him a playoff berth. And that's why I put some caveats with Lebanon bell because you know, you, and I we just talked about the offensive line. And if Connor can accomplish what he did behind that offensive line. Is it mean that bell was great? And he's a very good running back. I'm not going to question that but behind the bad offensive line, unless the jets can upgrade that tremendously. Is he going to be just, you know, run to the mill running back who occasionally he's gonna break one based on his talent. So I think the line is more important necessarily than the running back right now. Yeah. And that's and that's a big reason that might mcalinden has got to look at that offensive line makes them upgrades where he can if he's going to go after a Levy on bell. And I think this a genuine possibility that he will will that salary cap money. But yeah, I think any any running back is kind of the Holden to what happens up front and even Levy on bell with all that talent has got to have good blocking upfront. And I think it goes hand in hand with really any running back success, and you got to be truly special to overcome that he is special, and he is talented. He has supplies ability in the passing game as well. So I don't think you can argue about his talent and his value. I think you can wonder, you know, okay. If you're going to invest long-term in Le vian bell. What are you going? Get down the road. You know, the first couple of years, it's new it's fresh. He's gonna be motivated. He's made a ton of money. But is there a behavioral thing looming down the road because of what you saw this year in Pittsburgh last year to some degree with to hold outs in a row. It's it's just not something you want to deal with. Yeah. I would certainly agree with you there. Well, you know, we're we're back to to Beckham. And that's one of the things that people have been talking about the giants at this point with Beckham who a lot of other teams were interested in at the trading deadline. They played without them for the last four games. They've had some young receivers emerge. They're not Beckham. But they're pretty darn good. Would the giants be better off trading back and getting a couple of key parts? Now. Again, it depends on the hall. They get back and return and get by with a pretty good receiver team as opposed to having that number one guy who is just so good. You treat Odell Beckham junior. I'll I'll answer in two words and oh. No. Look your your invested heavily in Odell Beckham almost one hundred million dollars a contract. If you treat him next year, the acceleration on the cap is absurd. And if you're of the thinking that you just can't live with this guy. He's a bad locker room guy. Which is he's not, you know, there have been instances. Yes. But there was only one flare up this year that was because need SPN interview. The guy is the most talented player on your team. And if you're going to get good, if you're going to say, okay, we there was obvious transition this year with Eli manning and with the offensive line with with everything going on. If you think that it's gonna get better next year because Shurmur has one more year under his belt. Why would you just get rid of your best player? You know? Why wouldn't he be a part of that calculation? And it's it's crazy. You know, get get a better defense and get a defense that can stop team late in the game. Like they were not able to do the last two weeks. And then you're talking I just you know, if you're building a championship team you want championship caliber players Beckham is a championship caliber player. I just don't see the argument. Now, if it's three years down the road his team is still bad, and he's, you know, for whatever reason acting up, then then you do that. But you know, the acceleration the cap is is prohibitive at this point. And it still is well, I'll play devil's advocate here. Okay. Not that I necessarily buy this argument. I discount the clubhouse stuff as well..
