Who Decides Which Sports Are in the Olympics?

"So the delayed twenty twenty tokyo olympics happened the other week complete with thirty three sports and three hundred thirty nine events including four new sports and to discontinued sports. Brought back from the dead. That's the funny thing about the olympic games. The games themselves change almost every time in terms of new events. You might have seen the karate skateboarding sport climbing or serving you might have. I didn't what i saw. The olympics was mostly clips on my favorite memes site. The resurrected sports were baseball and softball. Last seen at the two thousand eight beijing olympics the international olympic committee had decided to make a commitment to the youth by bringing sports to them in urban environments. A pretty new point of view for the i. O. c. as well as to increase engagement for youth fans who are passionate about different sports from all over the world or dispassionate about sports as a whole these sports are also not coincidentally quite popular in japan so who decides what stays in. What goes that would be the aforementioned international olympic committee they oversee all aspects of the olympic. Games they run in it in the common parlance of the associations. Ninety nine members many are former athletes or current leaders in athletics from all over the world bonus fact one of the founders of buffalo wild wings was a lifelong figure skater who served on the ioc for a time. The ios's executive board proposes which sports will be included and the rest of the votes on them. A sport must cut certain muster to sway. Those voters there are five factors split into a further thirty five criteria. Such as. How long has the sport existed. How popular is the sport in the host country. How much would it cost to hold and broadcast the event and how much value the sport would be to the olympic legacy.

"Try to get out of here. Yeah in be house. Do you feel a little bit claustrophobic. Being still in the hood presumably don't know where you live. But i love i love. I love where i'm from. But i'm saying like i would like if we could take the whole hood together calabasas if that's the case. I'm not saying that i want to leave. You know what. I'm saying my roots. I'm saying that it's time for us to have better do better Feel that but the also just feel like the more attention that's put on you where you're from the bad things come with that as well You rephrase it. I mean if you start being the talk of the town and and being the one that there's all is on and stuff you know does definitely people in the who don't want to see somebody doing. Well it's definitely people who don't like. I don't pay attention to it so i would know. I focused on a good berle. I'm ben through a lot. So i don't think a person should ever waste time focusing on. Who preying on a down for. I don't even know about it. Somebody hey no me. I wouldn't know great. My ears closed at that type of shit. You know the the private instagram accounts commentator or anything. That should be funny. Sometimes the prime instagram's be funny right. Yeah that's it. That's it motivation. When you see a dm or a message from somebody where you could tell that they actually are somebody who knows something or like are round and that they've clearly made this anonymous tell you to fuck yourself comes though. That's the thing like only read my dims. I post fans. That's pretty much my dm's get flooded like way too much so like if you're trying to reach me and my designate be tough only dm's right. So what karate background do you have. How much of a sense. I say when i was let about twelve or thirteen i started doing karate. My relative was my sense eight. I passed away after he passed away. I quit. I probably did it for like three years. Okay and my mentor. When i was younger. I had a mentor. Who used to look over me. Because i was a bad ass kid running around so he's to try to try to grab me and made me sit down and re he was he was insane too. So you know. What i'm saying is like a hat. Us say that. I was learning from dan when i stopped doing karate. Our still fucking with muddy learning from a person who was pretty much the same. What did you learn from karate whether physical or mental or whatever. Would you get all that is for friendly. Sure mental and physical. I learned i learned like the bones and a person body. I learned how to how to be a defensive. Other shit like It's like an integrity thing like like you learn different things like say if we in karate class together and then. I don't fuck what you and i want to beat you up a like i say if we could spar and he'll teach me some shit like that in cou so i was spotted with him. That actually happened to me before despoiled with the sensation. Where he'd be you. Because i wanted to smart with somebody. How bad so it's about life lessons me to bear on. I feel like karate so different from like because i've done jitsu classes and enemy jitsu practice fuck with that shit. Why not rolling around on the ground with a dude now. A lot of people. I walked in a room. Oh boy was on top of old boy right with the little short zone barefoot choking each other i get it though because you know you need to learn some people need to learn that type of stuff but the practicing of like you gotta sit on top of do for five ten minutes explaining them boo. I did you just do for like almost a year and you really don't realize how bad other dudes smell until you're all up right there in the sweating their ass off man and all that shit if normally if one of my friends is sweating. I'm not gonna go near them. You know maybe. I'll give you a pound that's about it. It that's different. They near twisted up on a matt. I'm good. I got staph infection and gave it like me and this other do god at the same time from each other in class. That show was terrible. Nobody getting staff what jails where people get it. I guess that's where staff come from. So how'd you get it from jujitsu. I mean you're just sweating all over each other and they have come from sweat. Yeah i one time. I was doing coconut. Got it in my nose to the staffing. your nose. Young guy staff no more helpless. No you take a pill you get rid of it hopefully hopefully carrying. Have you been to any legal issues. Wish know about the top ten questions it. We've got cover next question. No you can't talk about it. Even normally everybody wants to know that they've mastered the politics of the county jail and whatnot and then approve Respect okay. So i mean you should start heating up during covert right man. I sit craziest wack. Did you like slow down. But it kinda helped me. 'cause i given the scandal a song i was thinking like when i was watching that i was thinking.

The Abduction of Jody Plauche

"And as the placebo has got more and more involved re karate. Jeff became more and more of a fixture in the families orbit. You have to remember. Jeff is only twenty four. He's a young guy and he doesn't know anyone in baton rouge so we're sure. He's thrilled that his family is welcoming him in and he's getting the sense of community that most people crave jody's parents were thirty. Nine year olds. Gary in june and they really liked jeff in the boys saw him sort of like an uncle figure. One particular time jody's at gary brought jeff home with them for family dinner and gave him spare clothes to change into and after that jeff would start bringing the boys home from karate he would take them tournaments as well as other fun activities connected to the fight team. There was real trust built between jeff in that family but on february nineteenth nineteen eighty-four that trust would be shaken to the core was january nineteenth. Nineteen eighty-four it was a sunday morning. He asked my my little border. Cork this is how close this family had become far each other's cars and things like that jeff told jody's mom that he didn't have his car because his brother dropped him off and that he needed his car because of some business dealing with having to do with down with his brother. So jody's mom. June said sure or the car. Jeff said he'd have the car back soon and then he laughed but he brought jody with him. They did meet up with. Jeff's brother. Mike in port arthur but it definitely wasn't to conduct any business. We drove out to his brothers. Mike house grab some clothes and sleeping bag and other stuff and we took my mother's call from gonzales. Louisiana support arthur texas and. That's where his mother and sister live. That's where he was from. Okay so why. The hell is jody with jeff on this excursion. And what exactly is going on here. Here's jody on what happened next. We say we just sunday night. And then the next day we went to another port louisiana looking for money basically. We didn't have any money. Okay so let's unpacked. Some of what is going on here. Jeff borrowed the car belonging to the mom of a little boy. He teaches karate to he said little boy with him but they don't go where they said that they were going the grab clothes and camping equipment and then jeff takes jodi out of state and we assume that right now alarm bells are probably going off in your head and have been for some time. Now they're going off and ours too but remember it's nineteen eighty four and it's unclear at what point jody's parents would have realized that jodi was actually missing and it's not like jeff had a cell phone that they could call at anytime of the day so at this point. Just imagine the paralyzed state of jody's family. Who do you call. would you do. And how the hell do you track down your kid

Why Skateboarding Is an Olympic Sport, but Cricket Isn't

"Skateboarding is one of six new ish. Sports added to the olympic lineup this year. Which has a lot of people wondering what does it take to be added and is some get taken away and sometimes return emily vanderbilt dug into these queries over at vox. She knows that these six new sports mark the biggest edition since nineteen twenty but also that so many events have been removed. The overall number of events has gone down from three hundred thirty nine to three hundred twenty nine. The six new sports consist of four actually new ones skateboarding surfing karate and sportclimbing as well as baseball and softball which were last featured as olympic sports. In two thousand eight and baseball and softball won't be returning in twenty twenty four in paris nor will karate although skateboarding surfing and sport climbing will all be there. And we'll be joined by break-dancing baseball and softball will be back at the twenty twenty eight games in los angeles however what's with all. The shuffling around prevent were a lot of it has to do with the international olympic. Committee's agenda twenty twenty which was adopted in twenty fourteen and part of its aim is to quote give individual host cities more control over which events are metal sports and quote so it makes sense that baseball fanatics japan would bring it back as would the us. And i can see how france wouldn't care as much break-dancing meanwhile makes sense for a continent super into street dancing and as vanderhoek notes while there's a lot of actual criteria for inclusion as a sport and you do need to have global appeal. It often helps if you a appeal. Particularly to the host nation in be are popular with the youths. According to her in. Vox the ioc has increasingly used the youth olympics. A perpetually beleaguered event for athletes between fourteen and eighteen years old as a way to try out events that might merit olympic inclusion break-dancing for instance will make its olympics debut in twenty twenty four after a successful trial run at the two thousand eighteen youth olympics in buenos aires.

Not shorted so And therefore was able to catch the fly because you catch more flies with shit as he said. Gosh okay so. I took it once i i also kind of was like well. If he's fighting you don't need to pull your pants down too far you can just fart regular but if you wanna concentrate the sent. That's true. He ends yet. Yeah concentrate i think. One of my favorite portions was The montage had daniel preparing for the fight to where he's paying the fans he's waxing waxing off he's punching chains which is more of a no mayes to cardigan three honestly but Yeah never did that. Sort of there's this like some part karate kid three where he is like just punching a metal thing and because he joins cobra kai in that in that episode and they just make you punch metal so really stupid yet..

"But it's not a large realm of white largely known ones that have really transcended to like mainstream or common household names so surprising to me. It seems like born as one of those things where it's like it just would not be a constraint because everyone fetishizes everyone so a porn categories like if in the performance have a hard time making it or was that can't be put into box like what are you bet if more boxes you can take off the better you do because it's all about an algorithm for search engines. Yeah that's true exactly like before you started this podcast you you know you could have been latina. And now you're what is it rachel bell. Oh yeah yeah yeah. Yeah on those all. I've always called myself like a racial chameleon. I'm like i could be whatever you want. I got a lot of white roles. 'cause even though i'm mexican native american i am the whitest human being you'll ever meet. I love mayonnaise and frankly a lot of white girls put on makeup to be super heavy. So it's like like the arianna 'grande at a little bit. I have to say though. I have to agree with cobra kai on one thing which is i can kind of see. Why johnny is the real karate kid. I could see why he's not totally in the wrong. Oh yeah there's a great you should look it up after and your your listeners. Should listen to it after this episode. There's a really funny thing on youtube where it's like a guy breaking down. Why daniel is the bully like he was like. Let's see all the like go through knows like oh yeah in another context. He is the bully. And i think that's part of the reason cobra kai was made. It was kind of this fan. Fiction like alternate universe. Daniels actually not such a great guy. Yeah in original film. You have daniel where he's picking a fight with johnny. I would assume it's around summer or the start of school and then literally months go by and then daniel unprovoked by johnny attacks. Him while he's like trying to roll a blunt in the bathroom. Or shall i all right. That's kind of a dick move like don't get me wrong. Johnny totally overreacts multiple times throughout the film in the racial karate kid. But it's not completely unwarranted and i think it's pretty clear that he was in some sort of abusive household. Where probably the father figure in. His house was like only using strength to like disciplined him. And so i think it's probably learned behavior..

They jumped into sex immediately. They didn't pick your hair or anything. They jumped right in dick okay. They set the scene by johnny and his mom. They've moved out to la. And i do like the porn transition where they had as opposed to. She's moving in the traditional movie two for a computer job. She's moving for the porn industry. Which very profitable at the time in the eighties or nineties. Or whenever the fuck this is shot clearly. She's doing way better than whatever the fuck she was doing in newark new jersey so props to her. What are the things. That i don't understand for the get go is why do they make danny so dumb stiffened. Yeah of the forte's of tommy pistol the actor. He does really really well. he's not a dumb guy. Either sublimely for bill porn star. He's not dumb love him but like he's really good at playland like a on brand might be his writer actually that he has to play just like a buffoon karate. Try karate chopping the door handle in the beginning and myself. That's a little much is. Are they trying to go for danny or dumbing danny but then they really did like dumbed down danny throughout the entire film which i was okay with yeah. They made a commitment. Yeah there was a continuity. Couldn't get over. How big the miaki characters balls were Zone has baked balls the and like a stretchy sack who is like jesus christ sir. So first off. I was okay. I was so happy. They made mr miyagi played by evanston. Also if you were troubled by the walking dead. Were they stretch. They taped someone's is to pretend to be asian. You're not gonna feel comfortable watching this porn your political correctness gets in the way jogging it. Asian porn stars like no. You can have this one. We don't want it go ahead. We didn't even like the original. This isn't making fun of any race. This is literally all the asian porn stars. All two of them said no pass. Who are these important stars. Either as kenny styles. "Gina, welcome to . the It show is great to have you speaking to us today. Maybe just to kick things off can you maybe just tell us a bit about Gina McCartney - who you are and some background. . to thank Yes, I'm yourself sure, you so Gi for na McCartney having me here today. Super excited to see both. So my background if i go back to perhaps my brief - youth and into professional career. I really my whole life was distant creative: sculpting, painting, designing and off the back of that passion went to uni studied creative advertising and was destined. ..my path was to become a art director . My very early career was in advertising agencies and spent ten years ing servic some like pretty big clients ilo, . kohl's meyer group. Cbi off foundation and then some order client bmw and many were because of mine and it was during that time that i realized how much i loved as and surprised no surprise. I joined renault. Stralia and joining renault at the time was at a really pivotal point for the business. And that was all about preaching and finding every possible opportunity we could in the market and myra was to introduce the sierra digital program. Really lift the capability of the dealer network from a lead management perspective. Sur getting out outta rot on building confidence back in the network that we were providing leads to them in generating value from office and then from neymar roll moved into a brand and events role and so the full marketing swayed had an awesome time with the business and great team. And then my time was up. When i was tapped on the shoulder for all at anchor pinellas area group been realized real estate dot com to you joined the business not really knowing much about the role. I was joining. He'd go to market manager role and of bain there now close to seven years and moved my way through various segments. So we're two now. Residential business at develop a business emotional property meteorologisy and clients and also to stint in malaysia. And i leave the win. We acquired a southeast asia and helped with the integration of that business side at an awesome korea here. Rei and now run. I tame called the customer. Excellence team and so my team move. Twenty incredibly talented people help support our two hundred thirty sales teams across australia. And that includes the learning development perching old training ogata market siles support collateral and operations analytic. Kpi's commissions incentive sprints and really big a big team mission and vision is to pave the new way of selling and selling clock when you work for rei. Let's bit about my story. Love love gardening love dancing and eighteen. And that's how i spend most of my time let's it's an impressive story. How you you've migrated from during the karate stuff through to or i will now into real estate now. We can't get a bit of understanding as to real estate dot com o. Rei group and what's the back story of real estate. Dot com abc business was born in the garage. Dome koster and for those familiar with john. It's in the eastern suburbs of melbourne and in nineteen ninety five and they came up with a crazy idea of water. We put the photos of property onto online so people can see them on the internet and so literally scanning photo by photo by photo built this web sought. That looks very different today than what did obviously up. Twenty plus years ago and over the years to really brilliant simple idea to gos- and today with the leading australian property portal and we have hundred million plus is it as a month coming to thought trillions of photos from a perspective and yeah we service most property clients around australia and that includes real estate agents property manages developers homebuilders land developers media clients of less amount of probably. But almost all and anyone that wants to reach property. Sega's we do business. You know you've got a really interesting background. Having spent tom and credit in automotive value in real estate can you. Maybe just discuss some of the similarities. Between automotive and real estate i remember when i joined. Ra and it was probably a month thing. I thought wow. I didn't realize there was so many similarities between the two industries. And if i stop from a business structure perspective the similarities of utah franchise groups independence at relationship between head office and you know the small small businesses that are running in local and regional areas. I think that that pressure that applies with a small business to find the raw talent retain talent when there is no professional requirement This note there's no huddle to get into other industry. And i think that is a challenge that are still share today and another real estate industry in particular institute really trying to introduce their professional courses create more opportunities for the right people to enter the industry. So they've got really quality staff sieving consumers invincibles. And i think our remember. That was a challenge in the automotive industry finding the right talent and apprenticeship styles perspective perhaps a bit of bid process. But that was probably one thing that i saw straightaway is a big lesson. In automotive that i think real estate can learn with the handshake. Between sales and after-sales and if you think of the real estate version of that is the sales and rental market now rent rolls the most profitable part of a real estate agency and if you think about the handover in the importance of one to the other the ongoing retention of the customer. I think that's a really important similarity between the two some. I think some best practice sharing could happen more. And then the probably the other big similarity i would say is the is much smarter and much savia and this is probably not exclusive to automotive in real estate but their expectations have increased tenfold. And no longer. Can you get back to a later inquiry within a couple of days. We're now seeing consumer expectations at a couple of minutes. And i think that's something that dealerships deal with daily and you know the the now now now economy that exists within cosima world.

Banks are getting interested in big data to figure out their climate risk

"Biden administration has made tackling climate change a priority and a big element of the business story around climate. Change is risk the risk to cities states countries companies and the banks that invest in. All of them. Some regulatory bodies like the european central bank require risk assessment and the federal reserve. May eventually as well emily. Massive karate runs the company. Four twenty seven a subsidiary of moody's she helps companies and governments figure out the risk climate change poses to them. I spoke with her last fall. The very first thing that needs to hunt bone is first to understand identified the nature of the risk this could be storms floods wildfires what those impacts are going to be and then the second step is to understand how those impacts translate in terms of financial risk credit risk and. This is where we're working closely with our parent company moody's to understand how exposure to extreme weather events for example translate in terms of impacts on cash flow on asset valuation and therefore whether we see an increase in the risk of default or whether we anticipate an impact on the stock performance the type of metrics that investors managers are going to be looking at is moody starting to take an investments climate risk into account when giving it a rating is that on the horizon so start with the disclaimer. Which is i am not speaking. On behalf of the credit rating agency moody's investors service but who we are a key data provider to the input and they are now a number of reading activities where physical risk is being incorporated systematically so for example when looking at muniz state or city in the united states. There's going to be a paragraph. In the opinion that describes whether there is risk related to climate or other environmental social governance risks If you think a city like venice or a certain states on the east coast the the long term implications of potential impacts on properties and infrastructure that our coastal can be really meaningful and so it gets a little bit to the question of on the one hundred time horizon. when will this become sufficiently disruptive that it would become a financial issue and also a matter of what is the adaptation and resilience policy and planning around that such that. You know that some of those effects could be mitigated or could be if not avoided at least managed in a way that is not so harmful to the city from economic and financial standpoint.

This top cancer scientist thought he knew a lot about cancer. Then he got it.

"I wanted. I didn't want to have not only smoldering away in my pelvis. bit also small does away and you hit. It's always in your head as much as i could rationalize it and say i'm very scientific in my approach things and it wasn't a problem every day would come to me at three o'clock in the morning when i sat a worrying about all the other things worry about three o'clock in the morning you will saying parts of them and the body that they will never really say themselves. Also get tonight. It's an extraordinary thing that that was true kind of but it is still amazes me today. That people want to see the inside. Bids cannot have my video. I want to share it on social media. you know. i've seen all your videos on youtube. Can you make sure my prostate goes up in this episode. It's a franken. Feel this conversation about an experience. Men don often talked publicly about. So let's meet the scientist and the surgeon interested in nature. This is professor robe ramsey as a molecular biologist and kansas scientist and on the saudi also makes art. He's a black belt in karate rossi's by his husband father of two children but trying to understand how the natural world works was a i love of his and i've always been driven by trying to understand biology and i'm also a little bit inclined to like machinery and structures and the way things work and essentially sells Machines and i like the way they operate and they're really have siamese different facets to them and of causing disease machinery goes wrong for me. The very first day i was in an operating theatre watching people take cancerous. Lump sexually as it was then breast cancer. I was instantly captivated. This is professor. Declan murphy lading urologist and kansas surgeon. He's been in a for over a decade but you can he he's rh lilt and even though it's cancer he's dealing with everyday like rob. He's loved his job. Died dot. I was in the operating theatre was meeting these patients before and after as a medical student and honestly i just became almost overwhelmed by the idea that people will allow other people to do surgery on them. That it's such a huge privilege to be allowed to do surgery but i was fascinated by urology because it's it's quite a a big field work. In it's everything from the kidneys dancer. The bladder and the prostate and the pain is in. The testicles are all areas in the urology domain that can be affected by cancer. Now dick lennon rob happened to be call. Eggs at the pay to mccallum will pay to mac cancel santa in melbourne as a scientist rob's focused on amongst other tricky conundrums developing vaccines that target gastrointestinal cancers like colorectal cancer as a surgeon declines leading the way with us robotics in the operating theatre and often the cancer arena. You'll find that scientists and surgeons just don't traditionally makes much but robin declan like many others at paid amac a different because i want to do science. That reflects the needs of people with cancer and the clinicians trading them are remember being at a hospital where declan was doing a tag team robotic procedure on a patient was having some colorectal surgery plus a prostatectomy and i was there on saturday morning with my eyes pocket collecting some samples clincal trial without doing their in the operating room because these patients have agreed to be part of a trial in that case. That was a patient to kansas. Quite complex work but rob wanted some tissue as some cancerous tissue to take into the lab. And i was watching these two guys work. Seamlessly together is something is a of beauty in any group of people that do things well together and there's almost subliminal communication. What's coming next that i'm bumping to each other The theater staff all expert. They work as attainments really like a formula one team. It a stop and i'd never. I've never worked in the center where you will have a a professor of colorectal science in the operating room with you so and we get used to that at peter. Mac it's the same prostate the same for melanoma central breast and and i just find as an extraordinary environment. I've never worked in a place that has that. Degree of translational multidisciplinary care where people are. They're asking the questions taking the tissue doing trials etcetera etcetera. And it's just a extraordinary. I can do some cool things in my lab question. I of been geneticists for most of my research life and we can do cool things with jane's in cells and also indeed on animals and you can find great science out of that but does it always reflect what's going on in the patient and the answer is sometimes but not always and i want to the always it is relevant. What happens in a patient. It's all about the patient in the has always westbound lot that though so these two colleagues late in their fields in cancer but then kind of a sudden curve ball and a role change. The scientists in the surgeon were about to become the surgeon. And he's patient he's rob i have a great jp. I've been going to for quite a long time. Really thoughtful considerate kanda guy. We've we always have a great show. When i go to visit him. I have a checkup every six months. For basically blood blood pressure to have a level that cannot be controlled just by exercise and diet.

Yes we're very excited already getting into it all right so i want to kind of set the stage and go back to the early years your family in the early interest in martial arts Told me about that. well So my dad was in the military My parents met when he was in germany. And my mom was fleeing thailand From like an abusive relationship with her young son so she went to germany and Have some friends there. And my dad actually was hospitalized for something and my mom ended up taking care of my dad. And you know. They fell in love and Had me and my little sister. We ended up moving out to I was going in the springs colorado springs and then we moved to aurora colorado. So it was the three of us kids Growing up in aurora colorado and You know middle class family I would say blue collar and We wanted to get into sports. But we just couldn't like my parents couldn't afford to put all three of us into sports so There was a community church. Just down the street. And they're they taught martial arts and there was a flyer on the door that my brother had found and at that point Mitch turtles was really popular mortal combat. You know best the best all of these martial art movies that we were just obsessed with so when we got that flyer my brother was just like please please. Please let me let us do it. Mike frustrated at the delay when suddenly clayton drops tanks over the side. And you see it's sinking to the bottom. Jack tells suzy the ship sinking was all his fault. Susan doesn't care. She understands just then. Mike produces his find a piece of metal from japanese shell. That shank sank the four to seven seven. Jack still a hero a synthetic hero. Well i guess. Hollywood took a lot of liberties here. Let's see an ls t. Operating independently in the caribbean by itself doing battle with either a japanese ship or submarine seems a little farfetched. But as we know from mike nelson. Nothing is improbable.

A Prescription Video Game for ADHD

"Spaceman rides down an icy River on a jet fuel draft avoiding obstacles and collecting tokens. It looks like a scene out of Mario Kart or any number of popular video games. But this is endeavor RX the first fda-cleared video game for childhood p h d so what makes Endeavor special the hand eye movements that relies on Earth ought to exercise circuits that involve attention and this Theory did translate into small but real improvements in attention in 5 clinical trials involving over six hundred children with ADHD compared to Placebo, which was a simple puzzle video game 47% of children who played Endeavor RX for four weeks saw improvements and attention and reaction time on cognitive testing. So about half of them got better, but they also got better on the placebo group only in that case. It was about a third of them who got better now. It's important understand that no one not even the achille company that makes this video game and not the FDA is suggesting that this game treats ADHD, it only improved performance on cognitive testing and it's not clear how or even if that translates to changes in the classroom in the social world to put all this in a broader context. We've been recommending that children with ADHD play outdoors and take up something that requires physical Mastery like karate dance or sports for years. So this isn't too far off the usual path dexterity games improve cognitive performance an older adults and in people with dementia, it just seems that doing things physically with your hands any task that requires you to constantly adjust based on real-world feedback. Things like darts piano or even Tetris is good for the brain. But if Endeavor RX improves attention, what about other video games that we don't know about the Wii Sports sweets particularly. We bowling has good evidence for age-related cognitive decline, but it's never been studied in ADHD that I know of in some way Endeavor RX is a typical video game, but it does have two differences that make it stand out verse the game adjusts in real time. It gets harder or easier depending on your skill level that helps keep the child attention next the game shuts off after 30 minutes of play per day the children who used it liked Endeavor RX. I wanted to play it longer but the early shut off prevents addiction and reminds us of an important principle for brainhealth. The brain likes variety and does best with moderation dead.

"A lot of a lot of things that are Language like and things that need to be that are when you're learning how to use a tool a lot of repetition is involved. and. I just thought it was Kinda Kinda interesting way that they. You know how are they gonNA teach his kid had a had A. Black. You know if if he's Peyton the fence and he's wax in the floor, he's going to get that repetition that you know they say, the ten thousand hours you know, right? Right. Can I ask actually You've seen. Have you seen all the cycles or many of them? Yeah. I. Have seen the sequels but honestly I watched them once when they came out and never watched him again. From your memory. So I I'm just trying to think if I have to write a karate kid sequel back then right and got look at like what made the FO successful and a lot of it like the unique training staff the wax on wax off like you know trying to balance in the water things like that. But does any of that stuff either comeback by try that make attempts like repre that like do they treat wax on wax off like I'll be back did I? Say it again they do like we'd montages of training like this theme like it's kind of like the saying Okay. Yeah. I I don't remember anything I thought. Yeah. No. Unfortunately what I remember is and I say unfortunately because. I found that when they started to use those as we'd call them memes now. They were Hokey. It just you know it. It didn't. It didn't land. It's like trying to tell a joke twice and it wasn't you know. What I mean once you heard the joke, you know the punchline and I just didn't have the it didn't deliver the same and I.

"I scare the crap out of them touchdown never laid a hand on them or anything, but I went up to them with a huge loud voice and I was either it's either that they were scared of a you know, they really thought was really psycho. But and the reason I did that is because I was just getting bullied every single day from elementary school all the way to walk all the way up until high school and we just kind of it gets old after a while and they're not tired, right? Yeah, and there's always so much your mom can like negatively affected by old and and because I know I haven't known anybody hit my dog. Taken our life over at 5. I've heard of people taking a life over again bullied and everything and I was like, I don't want to be that person. I won't get rid of all is and I decided I was like, I'm going to drop the weight so that they can't make fun of my way and I started getting muscle and say and these people were like really short some of them one of them was short and skinny and and didn't have anything and plus on top of that I used to do like karate when I was younger and and so I was like I could defend myself and I didn't even I was out of karate for a while during that time. I still remember all the most so I was like, come on take me because I'm you're ready. I can I can defend myself if I needed, you know saying come down to the okay. I'm so happy that you share that song. I'm so happy that you you stand up for yourself. And it's a good thing karate is a good thing it teaches you discipline and all of that stuff. I love karate and I'm so happy that you lost the way and off and you didn't allow all that negativity to take your over and you overcame that obstacle. And yeah, I imagine it back in karate now and I'm walking towards my black belt. Wow, that's nice. So like I'm so loving I'm still think I'm I'm still nine belts away from my black belt. So I got a long way to go. See you get there. I I see you getting it. I only had the dream like 60 times in the past multiple years is like about that bloodbath you get there though another challenge I had to overcome as.

What TV Shows Do Viewers Prefer During the Pandemic?

"And confidently stay tuned after the show to find how you can boost your next job post with their special offer for talking tech listeners. A few weeks ago, Tom Ryan who runs the Pluto TV website explained to me that the reason that his site is doing so well is 'cause they run so much old stuff people. He told me do not WANNA watch a lot of new programming on streaming. The dirty little secret is they really love catching up with old familiar favorites. Will his cinema rang true and clear to me this week when I read the new Nielsen Streaming Chart Nielsen of course is the company that's been monitoring TV viewing for years, and it's now monitoring what we watch on Netflix and Amazon and other websites and the top ten. There's only three new shows in the top ten. And they don't sound that new either. So the most watched show is called copper guy. It's a sequel to a nineteen eighty-four movie called the Karate Kid. Number two is away, which is new is about mission to Mars, and it's with Hilary. Swank number three is lucifer a Fox series about the devil in disguise, which premiered in two thousand sixteen, and it's followed by the other new show, which is called the boys, which is a superhero drama on Amazon from there all oldies but goodies the office from two thousand five. Criminal minds permitted in two, thousand and five. Grey's anatomy premiered in two thousand five. NCIS premiered in two thousand and three, and is a sequel a spin off to a TV show that premiered in nineteen ninety-five called Jag. WHO REMEMBERS THAT ONE Then, we've got shameless pretty current right that's his TV series that aired on. Showtime. Premiered in two thousand, eleven. After that, we have to go all the way back to number

Breaking down the VP debate between Mike Pence and Kamala Harris

"Comma Harris and Mike. Pence came face to face though through plexiglass for the first and only vice presidential debate of this cycle the barriers, twelve feet of distance between the candidates, all reminders of the pandemic that has upended the campaign, the White House our entire country as well as what's at stake in this election. The. American. People have witnessed what is the greatest failure of any presidential administration as the very first the President. Donald Trump has put the health of America first they knew they covered it up. The president said, it was a hoax. China is to blame for the coronavirus. President trump is not happy about it. Joe Biden has been very clear. He will not raise taxes on anybody who makes less than four hundred thousand Sunday here peel the trump tax cuts. Let's vice president speaking. Speaking. We have seen a pattern with this administration, which is they don't believe in science climate is changing. We'll follow the science. Are you Joe Biden going to pack the court if Joe Jamie CONYBEARE is confirmed American people are voting right now and it should be their decision. About who will serve on this most important body for a lifetime we need reform of our policing in America and our criminal justice system, which is why Joe and I will immediately ban choke holes and karate Geor-, George. Floyd alive today if we did that, there's no excuse for what happened to George Floyd. Justice will be served. But there's also no excuse for the rioting and looting that followed, we will not let anyone subvert our democracy with what Donald Trump has been doing as he did on the debate stage last week when again in front of seventy million people. He openly. Attempted to suppress the vote president trump and are fighting every day in court houses to prevent. Joe Biden Kamla from change in the rules and creating this universal mail in voting little create a massive opportunity for voter fraud. Again it is bracing to hear a sitting vice president talk about efforts to combat mail in voting during a pandemic. But that's policy for help and separating some of the fact from fiction that we heard tonight. During this debate, we are joined by our friend, Ari Melber host of the six PM Eastern our on this very network also happens to be our chief legal correspondent Ari. There was a lot there. There was a lot there in as you and others have covered Ryan. We heard more of it more audible and civil debate, which is good for voters good for civics because their claims and we're GONNA. Go through a couple of them. Briefly here was vice president pence making a claim which may sound to you like a stretch take a look. Our air and land or cleaner than any time ever recorded our water is among the cleanest in the world. Fact check false indeed during the pendency of the trump administration. To pick one example, the air quality has been fifteen percent worse more on healthy over the past two years. You can see that here with some background, the Associated Press. Now, we'll move forward on CO VID vice president pence was often trying to basically turn things back against the Obama administration's record. One of the things he mentioned may have struck out too many people was this claim that there were sixty million cases of swine flu in the previous administration, and as you can see right here, that is true. So he gets partly true on this claim. Had He stopped there he'd. Be Fine Brian but then the vice president went on to argue that somehow if you apply the virus death toll right now, the swine flu, you'd have even more death under the Obama Administration bit of a Hypothetical Hypothetical Bank shot also, not true they have different fatality rates and some medical experts have pointed out it is also a bit of a stretch to take your own administrations death-ray, which is higher than any other developed democracies and then project that through math hypothetically on a different pandemic that was less deadly third, and finally because I want to keep it moving Brian I did have this moment that really jumped out take a look. Let's talk about respecting the American people. You respect the American people when you tell them the truth, you respect the American people when you have the courage which we've leaders. Which we've always done the claim there from a representative of the trump pence administration that is a big giant false indeed. The Washington. Post and other fact checkers have found that Donald Trump tells more lies and falsehoods than any president in either party in history to count is over twenty thousand,
