"I talked about it earlier in the week. Poker back to a football friday by the way. I i just think this is a nice early test for the broncos defensive backfield because i think that the giants did a really good job in the off season. They got kenny golladay. Their top free agent target. That was the guy they wanted for a very long time. They got him going along with john. Ross who's very fast they picked up. Kyle rudolph In the in the draft to they got another water. They went wide receiver head. Heavy kurd. area's. Tony i mean they loaded up. They want to be able to give daniel jones those weapons in his third year which makes sense. Unlike the broncos they were they loaded up everything last year with your lock in his first full year. They kinda got daniel jones golan with joe judge new new system and everything and then they started loading it up. This is the year for daniel jones of the pressure cooker. He is certainly. He is certainly in that. He's on the hot seat. I mean they have to decide if he's the guy going for. It's amazing how fast this goes. It was not long ago. That oh he's going to be the guy he's going to save us. He's going to take over where you know alive. He's gonna be our eli manning. Well the weapons might be their offense of like. I said the the offense boosted their getting barclay back. I don't know what it looks like. He is slated to play as far as the injuries go. He's listed as questionable but from everything. We've heard saquon barkley is going to play. And if he can be as explosive as he was before injury then look out but they also have devante booker and booker has had his moments against the broncos. Of course being a former bronco. You know he. They picked him up and they really like him in case barclay needs. You know you're not gonna give him a huge workload right off the bat. But there's pressure. Listen there's pressure with the giants. They at least have the okay. Joe judge our first year. We won six games and we actually were right there in the thick of it in the division. So if you're giants fan. You're feeling better about yourselves. And you're thinking we can go right here right off the bat and put together a win against the broncos they are looking at this game just like we're looking at it. They think this is a game that they can win. They got denver at home than there at washington home against atlanta those or their first three games winnable washington's defenses improved Atlanta you know. They're they should be good that sometimes. They're always surprising when they're not but this. I think this looks like an easier win for denver. I really do. I think teddy bridgewater is going to be a lot like teddy bridgewater. I don't think he's going to play outside of himself. They're going to run the ball. Really well with melvin gordon and Obviously johnny williams. I'm excited to see him. I think that that addition might take hold quickly even pat shurmur. Who was there with barclay it with the giants even said man. I could see devante williams avenue barclay type year his first year his it like barclays rookie year. So the run game will carry them. Offensively should open up a lot of things. I don't really look for a portland. Sutton or jerry judy. To go off for one hundred plus. I think it'll be spread out. Because you're really relying on melvin gordon. The d. line for the giants is certainly questionable. And i like the broncos offense flying a lot. So i think they're gonna move guys around and you know you're gonna hit you know. Maybe judy gets three or four catches for forty five. Forty five yards and a touchdown. Maybe portland sutton's at like six catches for sixty yards cage with like two or three. I could see that kind of spread out offense. I don't know that anybody just dominates especially because teddy's connection is more. Judy coralline sutton was more. I believe it seemed like he had more of a encamp anyway the way he talked and what we heard Was more of a connection with drew. Lock obviously didn't seem last year withdrew but they were good in those five games that he played his rookie season but on the offensive side. I just i think they're going to run the ball. They're going to run right. The hell at the giants with you know kind of a weaker offensive line. They lost or a defensive line. Excuse me the lost alvin tomlinson. Free agency They have some veterans. Danny shelton can't believe he's still playing austin johnson. Bj hill see. But i think the broncos have the edge there when it comes to the trenches on the defensive side again. I think the broncos should have the edge bradley chubb is now listed as questionable officially. Couldn't tell you. I mean i'd love to see if they if you could get von and chubb in the mix both healthy but this is where we are at this stage. I still like what this defense is capable of. Though i mean released on paper what we think they're capable of because they have the corner look at those corners ronald darby bryce callahan. Kyle fuller pat ser tan. And we don't even talk you talk about some of these other guys. I mean terrible news about michael. Oj moody being on the. I are just awful but you were in camp. You were like wow. They're stacked and we're not even talking about oj moody so they went deep into the into the db's and rightfully so they needed to that was a big weakness for them last year and They filled that void. I i look. I pat 'certain right off the bat to be in a lot. He's listed starter. They're gonna play. A lot of nickel-and-dime look for alexander johnson or justin stern. Ed josie joel to be out there by themselves alone linebacker. Because i think this team will be looking to. Hopefully they can just stop teams with great tackling corners. Which is what vic fangio likes e side. Chris broncos twenty four giants seven. You gotta blow out happening. Fangio handles crowd noise better than foxy. It's not a must win. People are saying must win for the broncos. I'm not going there. I said must win last week. Game one for issue different reasons. It's certainly a big game. You really need to win. It specially if playoffs are in your future and with that colefax. We'll take a break. We got the picks coming up next. I give you my big four my local teams. We talk about. I'll give you my lock of the week on the college football side and my lock of the week in the nfl. We'll take a short break. Picks coming up next. It's the whole show in a football friday northern colorado's voice one three.

"Well, let's start with the DVDs there. I don't think that that's when King is happening, Um so I'll leave that at that The other ones there. Anthony Harris is a possibility, but that's probably too expensive. You know that drags on and he doesn't develop much above market. I would say that's more likely Um What was the third db there? I'm sorry, Troy Hill. You don't think that's really, um maybe maybe, but that's not a name that had been mentioned so far. But I'm aware of Um, So you know, I I like much like of Anthony Harris. I think that if, um if no market fails to develop for the George pain because they just swoop in a two that point, and then he had a couple of linebackers there. I don't think either one of those air guys that the progress is gonna be after. I do know the Jets are trying to launch procedure emotionally. Well, this looks like a very happy tracked. The reality is only about 6,000,060 million this year. S o. You know, as far as another inside backer goes, I would not be surprised to see some kind of deal They do go after CJ Mosley. You know, that's a great when you bring up and I saw that report from Tom Palace Arrow that there have been some calls on CJ Mosley, certainly for the Broncos and again, I know that there's a certain splash pick that the Broncos fans would like to see. They had been telegraphing to shot Watson specifically and Corinne Jackson's relationship with Shawn Watson for somebody so much time I sort of feel like without Karine Jackson here to Lord to Shawn Watson. Maybe maybe that ship sails what one where the other for the fact is, If you could go to CJ Mosley that would absolutely be viewed as a little bit of a signature move. For George Payton out of the gates to go upgrade your inside linebacker position because the guy that got injured his first year with the Jets, he opted out last year. He was definitely has not been what they were hoping he could be so far, But if you could get CJ Mosley. I mean that, that right there added into Alexander Johnson and whatever you're going to use Josie Joel at that point, you've upgraded at all three levels at that point. Well, yeah, And you know, here's the thing about it is flash moves or something that general managers do for you notice to satiate the columnists. You're just trying to improve your football team. Whether that's flash you're not C J would be an upgrade s so I think if you know if they can make it work at something you have to at least look at and do due diligence. Thought you mentioned you mentioned some motion and I was trying to come back to it. I forgot it was all they did. Corinne recruited you, Sean Karu Jackson isn't even the guy with the most ties to the shot Watson on this football team the most time Of his team's actually Alexander Johnson, who knows him dating back to high school. So a Zafar is the recruiting efforts go. I would suggest most people have the wrong player, you know, spotlighted for that. They just went with the obvious Texans connection from a couple years ago, But you know I was in Johnson's known him for years on Dat would be the guy recruiting him. I would think I still don't think that's going to happen. I don't think it's remotely the cards, but On, but I think the moves today kind of tip the head of that, But you know if you're one of those people that wants to hold out hope that would be the one that you hold out Hope. Okay. All right. We'll come back to the text line here in just a little bit. 56690 Give us call three All 3713 85 85. All right, Then. What did you think about the signing of Ronald Darby? Three years 30,000,019 and a half guaranteed. I saw a mixed results from most people on Twitter. I think if you go back and you get the good Ronald's Army. If you go watch the good of Ronald Darby, you feel pretty good about that signing, and he was pretty good in Washington this last year played the entire season over 1000 snaps and pro football focus. Had it 15 past breakup, the most in the NFL. So the good of Ronald Darby certainly seems worth that contract. It's the injury riddled seasons that I think a lot of people point to especially is disappointing tenure with the Eagles. And that's what I think is kind of sticking with everybody. But what do you think about the signing of Ronald Darby? I think it's a bit of a mixed bag, the hell things are definitely one of those things you wanna be you're gonna be concerned about. He's had two seasons out of six, where he didn't even get to 10 games his. He's only played one season where he played a little something that was last season. I do like the fact that he's got quick hands, he said. They're too They pass breakups. I think that's good. I am and something is needed here. But, you know, I talked to a couple of different people about him. First thing was that they mentioned was his stint in Philly was. He just wasn't a fit for the defense that they ran there and all the head of my third man, and he's just not much of a man guy yet about double moves. That's a problem. The other part that they mentioned as far as the downside is is that he has trouble locating the ball in terms of like getting interceptions. I think he's got what eight for his career if I'm not mistaken, but I talked to somebody who said that he couldn't find the ball if you handed it to him, and that that was kind of a stinging, we have a bit of a stinging rebuke. Their, um The other side of that the other side of that coin. You know, you gotta go with active hands He does tackle. Well, he does press. Well. He plays well in zone s, so I think that he was held much better fit in Washington that he was in Philly. Excuse me. What's better fit in Buffalo in Washington that he wasn't feeling and I think he's a better fit here that he was in Philly. So you know, I'm kind of hoping that vehicle work is magic. You know, they will be the guy that you know that we think that he could be if he could stay healthy. But that is a lot to invest in a guy much like Bryce Callahan, who Just never had a healthy season outside of last year. Okay, So that was one of the biggest complaints right? There is your top two corners. And even if you view Ronald Darby as C B two, which is kind of how I view this move. Then you have your top two guys that both have injury history. What's that say about the construction here? And you think that Vic Fangio Had a pretty big hand in bringing him in because this sort of strikes me as you probably check with Fangio to see what kind of corner he's looking at, and what he's interested in bringing onto the team. Well, Yeah, And that was the thing. You know, The first thing I did was ask the Broncos front office. Hey, was this the George Payton signing was the vic Fangio siding. There was a group effort. And of course, you know, First quote. Is everybody working together and everything that you did got a little deeper and Vic's got a lot of input on the on the guys that are coming in. And so, you know, I think this was George Peyton's decision in conjunction with the Fangio if it knows what he wants the corner position and thinks You know, there's been hitter this at the corner position, You know, I think Agent we had played that AG but you know, he's kind of just a guy last year Price..

"You know, now, Johnson, the you know in the moved onto that different role in George Payton is here and you know, we really need to get a feel for what it is that he's going to be doing. On which of these guys, He's going to keep it go from there. I still think like I said, I think they're gonna get the Justin thing done. I think Justin knows we're gonna get to Justin. Things done. He knows that. But I think the Right now. It's it's playing that waiting game and it just sucks because you're in that lonely between where Why have they got to done yet? And there are other factors involved. They don't know the final cap number. Yet The ABC television deal hasn't come in so they could they don't know the final cap number. They're projecting for one of the six right now, But if that number if it comes out, it could be about 10 to 12 million higher, which is significant, which is huge. A couple players if one premier player, absolutely, You know the VON situation, getting some finality on that, and, uh Waiting for an official announcement for the D E. A. They're not going to charge him because you know that anyway on then and go up there, So there's there are other things in play, and just it's not as cut and dry as well. Why haven't they gotten it done? You know their market factors to consider their love. If you were me, I would just go out and get it done. But that starts to box you in the minute you signed Justin, that starts to box you in on some of these other things right now, you've got all the flexibility in the world. The minute you start putting pen to paper, all these things that boxes you in a little bit of time and starts to see what you can and can't do going forward. So we were talking about this earlier about how the Broncos under John Elway have been predominantly a team that is thrived off of free agents. If they've not really look to maintain or sign back there, guys just like we all had this. On ESPN. And it's It's pretty. I mean, it's kind of a shocking number. Toe. Look at from 2011 to 2017. Denver drafted 54 players. Who were eligible or second contracts, and they only signed six of them to multiyear deals. 50 FT four players from the range of 2011 to 2017 and only fifth and only six of them. Were signed a multiyear contracts. And like I mentioned earlier on Lee, two of them got the lead top top three of their position von Miller and Gear Poles. Virgil Green, Andy Jankovich, Jeff hire Hman market value, guys, and then, Of course, there's Derek Wolf in there, but that's that's it like that's that's really all the guys and out. There were some hits there in college free agents with Chris Harris CJ Anderson, So it's not like they haven't signed any of their guys back. But for the most part they have on Li survived on those free agent sort of patch working there. Roster together, and they've mostly let all the other guys walk. So we're talking about a pretty stark Transition in philosophy. If George Payton is going to back up the words that he said about being a drafted, developed kind of team, because that is the exact opposite. I talk about six out of 54. That is the exact opposite of what has been in Denver for the last decade. Yeah, and you know, for whatever you think of John Elway, John. Oh, it was a businessman and understood how to run a business and he wanted to win the negotiations and all that kind of stuff and show keep the Denver Broncos a very profitable franchise and all those kinds of things and they did get wins. When they had the quarterback. They were able to do that. The problem was that after the quarterback was gone, they weren't able to do that anymore, And it was the same. It's the same philosophy that Bill Belichick had New England. You know? The difference is that they had the quarterback for a lot longer. That's that's really the difference. The Broncos got Peyton Manning at the end for the final. What 45 years. Tom Brady played New England for you know, almost two decades, so that's the difference. That's that's the reason John Elway's philosophy is. He's kind of the same one of about you, Bill. Bill check didn't draft and develop. They got top Brady in the sixth round. And that's that's been a thing that that shielded so many bad draft picks that they've made a lot of Mrs Lot of him or remember they got. Broncos got Duke Dawson second round rounder. The year after the movies moved on from right, Chad Jackson. Remember him wide receiver out of Florida They drafted him was their top pick that they drive today. Here, everybody and there was nothing going on. There is something out the other day about how the Patriots drafted more quarterbacks over the last like 20 years and any other team and yet again, they had Tom Brady the entire time, right? I'm saying that like that was a bad philosophy. They were able to flip some of those quarterbacks. They have some draft picks back, but it's an interesting but they didn't hit on those draft picks. Really? Yeah, right. Exactly. There was something I mean, you go back and look at some these guys that they had and you know, and some of them were. There were. There were extenuating circumstances in some cases, but you know, you go back and you look at this stuff and then they weren't. They were very good drafting team. They did a lot. Most of it was free agents coming to take a haircut to play with Tom Brady. That's what itwas this the same philosophy that always like everyone's talking always, but that's that was the philosophy overhead, and now he's shifting to a different philosophy. George Payton is of the draft to develop mind set. Same thing you've seen with the Green Bay Packers for years. Not really active in free agency. You bring your own guys in. You might bring a free agent in here and there, but really, you're not that activity you wanna just keep drafting and developing But when I looked this, and I think about what George Payton is gonna try to do here It seems like he's going to need some time like he's gonna do to really Look at what his focus is for this organization and the direction he wants to take things. This isn't a one year we're going to know what George Payton is trying to do here. This is a a few years. This is a multi contract kind of situation. Where what we're going to really get a sense because again, like I said, we're going from what was a We're gonna draft guys. We hope they pan out. We're going to swing for the fences on some players. Remember, that was for a long time. That was the way they do it. They just drafted all athletes, and it didn't matter what they had upstairs, right? They've shifted that toe well, want some captains in there? And even if they aren't the most elite athletes we can. We can deal with that Josie Joel because they're good locker room guys, and they're good football and they're good football players sound football players. What George Payton is gonna try to do here is he's going to try to build a roster and a future with this team. It's based on keeping your guys in house as much as you can and building off of the successes you've had in the draft. Well, that takes time. That's not a that's not a year to your proposition. Didn't feel like sometimes of John Elway at this roster was a year to your proposition, like whatever was he sort of felt like coming into the next year. And whatever he thought was the best way to compete, like like whatever we did last year. Okay, that didn't work. We're gonna zag Now We're gonna go this direction and we're gonna we're gonna throw all over resource is this direction, And this is gonna be the thing that wins wasn't just the roster to was the coaching staff..

"Coming up with big plays. In six of the secondary third two. Who told them? Harris who came Oh. Absolutely was show bears gets up, knocks it down to Sean. Williams with beautiful dive a Journeyman Kinda Guy. A beautiful die for the interception and that's kind of what got this thing going the defense started to. Get some confidence about themselves and showed Williams who He's just trying to get on get on a roster and make a name for himself but I thought it was i. mean that was a nice nice interception there but again, the tip. And you saw show Behar's do it again on that Harris was everywhere. I liked what I saw again, Bryce Callahan with a beautiful interception. I thought Justin Simmons Kareem Jackson were outstanding Michael J. Moody Oh. The rookie sensation I. I love watching this guy play football man. I love watching a good corner and he was. Josie Joel was making some good place in this game Bradley Chubb came up with the sack. and. That's what we asked. You know hate can can Bradley Chubb do it? Another game can keep doing it because there's a lot of pressure on him. We're talking a lot about. Shaq. Barrett and was this the wrong move. But you're seeing a guy in in Bradley Chubb and I'm telling You I took a picture this Colfax. TV of course, I was not in Foxborough. And that. Bradley. Chubb sack. Cam Newton. Looked an awful lot like von Miller sack when he pulled the ball back in Super Bowl fifty now cam loses the ball they recover it. But the broncos were getting after it creating turnovers to getting the two interceptions. And the fumble fumble forced. It's what you have to do defensively. So I loved the offensive line in this game I. Absolutely Love Shelby Harris and the end, the defensive line. Well, let's let's be. Let's face it here. there's a lot to unpack today, but Colfax I I need to get to the good the bad. And the ugly presented by FMS bank banking made simple. The good. I mean I already talked about. This. Guy's got to be feeling pretty good about life today six for six Brandon McManus. Manas we'll try a forty five yard field goal broncos or on the board forty, four yard try by McManus. and. It's six to nothing ten for it from forty five and forty, four, twenty, seven yard. Try here. It's perfect and it's nine nothing is gone four of four and away she goes and up in and it's fifteen to three manors five a five. This would be a longest today and it is good I mean it's good and bad right That's your highlight reel. Folks feel goal after vehicle after field goal after field goal after field. Goal. After feel. But you gotTa Win. You found a way to do it defensively stood up twelve points by this patriots team and the broadcasters give me a break on the Patriots you could see they're off. Everything's different for them. We.

"You learned, though, about Denver out of that game. I can't tell you what. It reminded me out first off because you mentioned a store and I thought they were gonna be a lot of points in that game. Just because of like a comedy of errors, and it reminded me of like watching. You know, like a high school or college here like anything can happen. It's always going to be pretty, but it's going to be kind of exciting, Weirdly entertaining. Andi, we saw I mean, offered some great moments. Like when you bet the Sam Darnold over and then he turns in the large axe was exciting. And then that Jerry Judy catch was also I mean, that should have been a pick. And that's the That's the interesting thing about the grading system. We will grade throw poorly on that throw because it's a bad throw and the receiver really well, you know, And if you just look at the box for you don't she's outside that I was cool. A good example of you know why I give its useful and it was great. See Jerry Judy makes in place there. And that, you know, so I think What I learned most about the Broncos is that I am pretty excited about Jerry Judy. And when Drew walk does come back. It'll be great to see what you do with him. Because if they hadn't taken Jerry Judy and quoting something goes down, you feel that this off with your back? You're probably going on, man. Can we really judge him? Because he has no receivers. But yeah, the guy that can separate it can make such is even more back, You know, But you know you guys, you know, we love to razz you guys about the true long enough and everything else. But given Garrett Bulls play this year, do you guys over? Pff feel a sense of vindication for the high grades. You've given Garrett bowls or last You know, a year or so, In spite of Denver, people maybe sniping those great and perhaps calling gave the Garrett Bolles high grades unwarranted. I would never. I would never, you know, get too angry about people in Denver talking about how high I am on anything. You know my place because I can't. You know I can't reach that level, but for him, it was always it was the penalties, right? You know, it was like this guy just is a penalty machine. Whether it's in pass protection or is about And this year. I mean, yes, you counties. I feel like a this time last year we had like, and so that drastically changes the mirror. You know, Here's the thing about supplies. You can play or you play 60 fast play 59 great fax. If you mess up royally on the 60th. Your other 59 might not make up for how much at 60 So that's that's the thing that with offensive lineman that's why the job is so hard. You know all those things at least average on every play really, really matters and it's a skill a great skill. I think that's where careful, Scott, too. You don't see those disaster plays that even in a game where overall he plays well, torpedoes You know his performance. So Yeah, it's a great story. I'm really happy to see him for another guy that on Look, we we were critical him coming into this season, And when the Broncos decided to move on from Todd Davis, I think both was kind of looked at each other quizzically going like, Well, Josie, Jule, the answer. Next. Alexander Johnson. My goodness. Josie Joel put up a 91 grade there from pro football focus and I mean, I'm not so much thinking we were wrong because there's still some moments in coverage where you'd like to see a little bit better performance. But at the same time he looks like he fits better next. Alexander Johnson. At least I was willing to give him credit. What do you think about Josie Jewel in that game? Hey, played really well and that that in confectionery force was was a way for sex on the death of 22 yards where it's game before against the pots. How 78 targets in news coverage or completed for 107 yards, you know, so like, you know, there's a big difference there, and that's you know, so it's encouraging. Here's where I'll say Pump the brakes a little bit. Is that You know, so like people are coming to me, telling me the Colts or the second coming of the 85 years like buddy. They have played the Jaguars, who they lost. And a chest and a Viking's team that didn't know which end zone they were trying to score on. So like those things have a way in the early season of tragically, you know, tilting you players and teams because it's the fourth of the season. Right? So I would say Look, I look at his grades okay, fifties in fifties. A 30, then in 90, Okay, That's that's good trending in the right direction, But I certainly wouldn't put all my sock in one game against the worst. That's that's fair. That's very and I don't think that we went overboard on the either just and even when I brought it up to ban eyes like Man Elite grade here, 91 kind of gave me the quizzical look of well. Let's put it into context. The Jets are pretty bad, you know? So I was being charitable. I didn't want to feel give my real feelings of the Jets. So I just I was just nice said they're really bad..

"I think we have a better connection with our rockets. Insider branded crystal B K. Big Out, says, You know, the biggest thing for him is is not knowing what to make of the play, calling a Pat Shurmur the new offense, according to for the Denver Broncos, What What have you seen so far? Well, I've seen Ah. Willingness to take shots down the field. And I think some of that Sondra Locke Ah, and that reference that when he talked to us on Sunday, he said that Drew is a fan of the 60 yard. Check down. Ah, today I think there was a 40 yard. Check down. That was incomplete, But I like that phrase. Ah, 60 yard, check down. And then he's able TTO allow Drew, and I don't have this drew athleticism. But Drew's definitely operating on the edge. Some I think that that rich run in his version of Kyle's offense, Palestinians offense Also wanted to have drew operate on the edge, some, but but it probably didn't take any shots downfield. I don't think Kyle's offense necessarily does and part of that. Maybe some of the personnel that he had, um, although he did have those two studs in Atlanta, and I think they stretch the field plenty. So I think less about what the design of the offenses right now and more about just comfort level and being able to execute everything that Pat's calling and it Drew is then communicating to his offensive teammates. Whether he's running with the first team, or I think you even get in extra reps a little bit with some of the second team a lineman. Certainly 2nd and 3rd team skill players have been rotating through with one's kind of all week. And I think sometimes just to get through a little more work than you might you might normally get because of the truncated Preseason and some of it's just to get some familiarity with it. If I have to come into a game and catch a ball from drew lock, though, it won't be the first time they've done it all year. It's it's so fun watching this. This group battle, you know, I saw another highlight. Last week of Philip Lindsay stepping up in a one on one blocking drill. Ah, going against Josie Joel and smashing him in that drill. Now it's not a good deal on Josie Jewel, but certainly it is on Philip Lanzi, but that running back Rome Man that third running back position. B K could be very exciting. And I know the fan base hasn't seen everything but when that third running back position could be contested Maybe. And the Bellamy kid who led the nation in rushing touchdowns last year, has looked good. Ah, the other running back. I think from Texas Tech 39 look good. You played a little full back, too. But right Freeman, I think has handled himself well, especially the extra snaps from Melvin Gordon's been out, so I'll be surprised if it's not Royce Freeman. I think They like him in pass protection. They like him out of the backfield. I think he's still a little bit ahead of Philip windy in terms of his route running and pass catching, and so I think that Royce Freeman is going to be the third running back after Gordon Lindsay. The question is with those two guys in front of him. How much will you get out there? And then I I tweeted a picture of Josie to only be getting the best of Philip was different. Ah, different play basically the same drill where I think Jody just was ableto kind of run through Philip, but of the fun drilled the Watcher watch running back in the tight ends trying to pick up the blitz, But I think they trustworthy Freeman in there If he has to go if one of those two guys are down, one acts both you guys this question because you know, obviously likes your patron was with the Giants and had a Had a Ricky quarterback in Daniel Jones, which everybody thought, you know we were going to get to see what that was going to look like, But he's in a similar situation here in Denver with not necessarily a rookie quarterback Andrew Luck, but a guy who's Gonna be starting game won for the first time in his career in the National Football League. Any concern with, you know, comparing it with what we saw last year into Daniel Jones? Well, I'll say this, I'll start became Let you finish it up. This group of talented players that we have here at the Y receiver position is way different than he had in New York. This is not the same group of talent. That he had in New York. And I think when you have been With a guy like case Keenum, who Really had an outstanding year. Case. Keenum head is outstanding year shredding up the field from 12 in 18 yards. We are no case. Keenum does not have a strong arm We know he solved tells the ball. So the middle of that field is going to be assaulted. If Drew lock can get it down like this is you know all the great quarterback is not saying this over and over the view Over the years all the great quarterbacks owned the middle of the field, but especially and Pat Sharma's offense. You have to own the middle of the field to make those linebackers get depth. And that running game has to be effective to make them step up. But when you throw it, man they, Shawn Hamilton He's gotta catch it.

"And Put. More cornerbacks in the game which again, why would you not draft find more corners than they did draft a corner in third round With Michael OJ media. That's a big one i. mean he's he was in the third round I hope he'll be alright but I'm just not sure where he fits because you're not even hearing his name in the in the competition. As far as that goes. So that's a little scary when you look at that. Because it's Yatom you hear Bazi you hear, Harris. So I don't know if Oj is going to be a guy that can compete to actually get some meaningful time this year. then. You have the injury bug hitting already. You got broncos rookie cage hammer out a couple of weeks with a hamstring injury everything that I read about training camp so far Colfax was that handler was. Was To be lucky to be the third guy that's kind of top ten Patrick's getting more reps. So. Handler who you took in the second round. Now the injury, the injury on top of it, but wasn't having the kind of camp to to at least move him up into consideration to be the third wide receiver. Now. I would say slot wide receiver but they're the running Jerry Judy in the slot lot. I think they're going to move him around all over the field. So. You have that going down. But the devastating news perhaps could be Todd Davis Todd Davis is banged up and that one's a little scary todd. Davis injures his leg during drill. How how do you? Here todd is he started last year her too. So I think you gotta be very careful with him. David. Sustained a calf injury. We know last year in training camp. He didn't play until September twenty second at Green Bay. But he went down this just yesterday during an eleven on eleven, play it to trainers come over to help him off the field. He received a cartwright back to the locker room. Josie Joel replace, Davis for the final period of practice and that one that one's going to hurt forty minutes after the hour your thoughts so far. Are you concerned about that cornerback position as much as I am. And Again You C K J hamlet hurt and you think wow. Hurt thing can't predict it going to happen whatever no-one I'm not gonNA fault you unless like you had a history of injuries. But I still fall elway on that pick because the need was much greater in other positions. Corner Offensive Line but you doubled down, you went to either receivers in a row forty, eight minutes after the hour we'll take a short break here wrap up our number one and we'll get more into the hey nuggets, jazz rockies a little bit of big series coming up against the dodgers tonight we'll have that one. We will have that one for you on thirteen ten K. of gay tonight. So don't miss that one. We'll take a quick break. When we come back. broncos made a decision. And I don't know if it's going to be a very popular one..

"Got a couple of texts coming in here on the tax line five six six nine eight nine zero forget to the defensive side of the ball all I want from Flacco is competence show me you can drive the bus don't even need to score that's for Matt talked about that second home we ultimately with Flacco that's that's a big part of that but isn't that the competence yeah you know I don't want to first downs and Emma pun I don't need another case but I mean I don't split hairs with you here just do we need still we need to leave because of the feel score seven points on his first drive as a Bronco in a preseason game that doesn't tell me anything more about the team the what I already kind of know what it sets a tone and that's what you're trying to do you try to come out here and get the fans to buy in and they've been lukewarm buying in on this guy I like this one if Joe converts a third down I'll be happy we look Broncos fans have gotten to a point with the quarterback and frankly with the third down conversion issues but this team is had yeah actually if they go first second down and then it's like thirteen medium you don't want to see the quarterback throwing short of the sticks and and then they go three and out yeah I I can understand that no I I gotta get with a common ground I just look in the idea here is to have Joe Flacco go out there drive down the field and score one that that is what you're trying to do here trying to set the tone you try to get fans to buy and invest in this quarter back that's what you're trying to do that is the only reason you play a veteran in this game is you've got a script you try to set the tone you try to get fans you understand that you've underperform last couple years he had a new coaching staff to get a new identity into philosophy into added two new quarterback you coming out here and you're trying to establish something and that's the point that's the whole point of having Flacco we hear anything less than that is unacceptable you have to be he's in here to do this specific thing this is in today well we're you know we're gonna get out there and kind of see where it goes and get a free this isn't like that you have a fan base that is an expert expectation of success that is not used to losing back to back losing seasons don't cut it and Broncos country and so you need to go out there with this quarter back and say this is the guy and that's how you do it all right so you can continue to hit us up on the tax line five six six nine zero give us call three oh three seven one three eighty five eighty five or if you have questions on Twitter we'll get to those here coming up a little bit let's switch over the defensive side of the ball and talk about some of the stars because the played well in the hall of fame game the what we're expecting to see from them tonight well does start with the guy that tell you really like to you brought him up in last Broncos game day those believe reet ended up having a really impressive performance in that game total of four tackles two solo a sack attack velocity quarterback Kitty he he seemed in his raps to be exactly kind of what we thought he might be is a back of the rotation kind of outside linebacker I think you might wind up trying to get that Shaq Barrett role we talk about Holland's being in that but he might be the other guy and and get good they need days because he's played his hair on fire ever since mini camp and we talk about this moment probably a little too much but to lock on to scramble and it was really kind of funny because Millie greed knew he would allow to hit him but lock truck stake him ran him over and there was this there was a a pretty pretty loud you know from from a lot of players and since that moment Billy creed took that moment to moment of embarrassment they make something out of it he's played hair on fire since he's a great he's been great practice he was great that game and I want to see him continue that momentum going for solidified himself as either the number three or number four outside backer on this team there's no way we can talk about the defense of performances from hall of fame game without missing train not Jones the third round pick for the Broncos this year he was simply electric three tackles had three solo as well and of course he had three quarterback kids in a tackle for loss not tackle for loss was a thing of beauty on the running back and then of course the very next play need of getting a pressure that forced an interception the thing about Draymond Jones is using a very productive player at Ohio state in fact there was no other defensive lineman in college football the rush the passer as much as he did for Ohio state that's kind of crazy to think about when you think about on the same team with Nick Bosa who went inside to talk to this guy was a very very good player for Ohio state that slipped in the third round and as a three tack he has a huge opportunity in front of him to help out the Broncos is they'd put alternately decide whether into their defensive line going into the future yeah he is the future of that the defensive line I think that they had I don't think they'd written off to Marcus Walker when they took him but to Marcus Walker was largely an after thought and I think now they're at the point where Walker is kind of showed up it's like we might have a wealth of riches here we got two guys that got Justin wolf they're gonna be up for a pretty big contracts we've got young guys behind them that they can play they look like they can play these positions so the Broncos an area that looks like it might be an area of weakness has suddenly become an area where Hey we might have something here we might have some depth here we can do some things with this and and I think it's a good look I think it's a good look going forward to because again for the financial side that gives you leverage on guys like god discuss like shall be harassing guys like Derek Wolfe they're gonna be looking for some money speaking of Walker he had a sack to its into hurries from his twenty one pass rush snaps had a very nice room grade from pro football focus and Marcus Walker we a chance to talk him earlier this week he's staying humble right his mind set as bishop last two years being a healthy scratch for most of last year and then the year before being miscast as an outside linebacker when they asked him to lose a bunch of weight gain the weight back on now has gained even more weight and and he seems to be playing really well for me it's funny that we're starting on the defensive side of the ball we're talking a defensive linemen in pass rushers but really I think there's gonna be a big opportunity against Seattle tonight for those guys especially is are going after Geno Smith and Paxton Lynch I think those guys with with those two quarterbacks attend to hold the ball really long time I think these guys gonna show out tonight well yeah I think the opportunities might be a little fewer far between cover like to sling the ball of the field there are more opportunities to get up field after the passer in the hall of fame game Brian Schottenheimer lot more conservative than maybe one of the last few establish the run coaches office of coordinators in the NFL I I have a feeling that you're going to see linebackers chasing running backs sideline to sideline more this game to be the more the opportunity this inside backers to show off their sideline to sideline athleticism I am eating did try to earn a spot away from an injured Todd Davis and Joe Jones so I I really think that that's where my eyes are going to be on the defensive side I still think yes you're right they'll get the up to to get after the passer guys do hold the ball longer because they do do that and that Seattle offensive line is it to be chaired will not good but I think that this is going to be more of an exercise in in maintaining gap control and chase the running back okay you mention the linebackers no Joe Jones as you mentioned you're not gonna see Todd Davis tonight your prize you're not gonna see Josie Joel either so Alexander Johnson the guy could in this case I mean we we kind of have to say Alexander Johnson has one of the biggest opportunities of his young NFL career he's ever gonna have this yeah this is his opportunity this is the game where you put the film up this is the game they're giving you the opportunity to put the tape up whether it's with the demo prodigal's or another team this is your shot you need to have Eminem's lose yourself just as a Jedi I was about to quote the home he'd have that would play in the background whatever you do this is you know you only get one more voice this is it this is your opportunity so if you're Alexander Johnson you dialed in on this one to play time yeah and and you need to make the most of it mistakes no mental errors you know get out there do your job put the great tape down and don't give these guys don't give this front office don't give this coaching staff an excuse to cut you I. say this over and over again go out there and make it a difficult choice go out there and make it so they can't cut you that's what you have to this point okay let's go the DB's here real quick the safety room do we don't get as much separation with the safeties as I was hoping in the hall of fame game I did those Jamal card around the ball a lot especially in the fourth quarter he kinda needs to be that guy anyways and he's gonna fly around so I I did like to see that Marshall Jamal Carter to multi Thomas actually led the team in tackles so he was definitely around the ball as well anything you notice from the safeties guys the stood out that you're hoping will in this bigger opportunity stand out well and safe usually the team in tackles that's a bad thing yeah that means that receiver catching the ball on their on the coverage of that means running backs are getting the third level so that that's a bad thing but as far as the state these go I'm looking for big games are will parks look for big game SO Cravens on it that's really were and keep an eye on things the other part of this is I will see about about be any item covering well those two guys the main two guys because that's corner three or four we had a textured text in a little while ago talk about Richardson wants to see him get back in the conversation to be tougher and he needs to go show out in limited snaps because he's not gonna get the bulk of the snaps he's got guys he's got a leap frog to get that CD five spotlight to holder still out there so you gonna have to play well tray trace still out there I had to get out there and play well and establish yourself and Richard is not a name we've heard called a lot so you know we really need to see him establish himself as a as the guy again give them a reason not to cut you the Broncos game day brought to you by Franklin D. A.'s are an associate's injured in a car wreck called strong arm three oh three seven seven seven ETS are rhino ridge Benjamin Albright when we come back we're to go through under the radar players seems like we're kind of getting through those some of those we have a couple more to throw out that you should be keeping an eye on for tonight's game again were walking up to Broncos countdown to kick off the top of the hour right here okay we newsradio eight fifty AM ninety four one FM yep.

"Could be pretty cool. I high five Dave Grohl wants after he stole cotton candy from a vendor bark calcium dual headliner concert red hot chili peppers and food fighters. He stole cotton, candy he ran, I, I was down front. I was brought row up against the getting, you know, the little metal gate. I was getting pushed back and forth. I was getting hot sweaty. I went to go get some water take a break. So I walk off, you know, into the ring around barred, calcium down Little Rock. And as I do that I walk out, Dave Grohl runs off stage like they're just playing your runs off station. I woke up this way he runs. And as I'm standing there. Also, Dave Grohl sees the cotton candy guy, snags, his big vendor thing of cotton candy with all this stuff starts tossing them out to everybody. Thank ended up paying the guy but he is like like this. It's Dave Grohl, high five eight a high five and kept on running. That's awesome. So that's my, my whole day girl story. Anticlimactic Nick KENDALL can top that story as he joins us here from mile high huddle Nick Ryan Edwards in Benjamin Albright. KOA newsradio. What's going on, man? Hey, not too much just been doing a bunch of wedding planning. Oh. Congratulations. Congratulations, sir wins the big day October twenty up ESTES park. Colorado. That's coming up. My, my, my wedding was the twenty fifth. So I'm yeah. Of october. So I now of course you being the, the savvy Colorado in that you are you do realize, of course that the time of year and what inconsistent weather can look like. Oh, absolutely. But if you don't like it, you just wait ten minutes. And that's what it was. You never know. It snowed for us that morning. And then was beautiful that afternoon. So I mean just it's exactly what happened. Nick, by the way, I like your Abby. You've got a tie when Lancaster Abby right now on Twitter at Nick kindle, m h h. I'm working my way through the series. I'm having a lot of fun because everybody else I know has seen the whole thing I just got through season three picked up season four from the library today. In fact, they go pretty excited about that. Let me tell you what happens with Tylenol Lancaster Thailand. I think it's -tarian. I could be could be wrong about that. Are you did you did you get through the whole series, are you, are you like is that you like? I I'm I don't even know he doesn't know yet. So be careful with Ryan. Yeah. I like all of them, but I don't know something about Taiwan. Charles dance acting Taiwan is great. And he's just such an interesting. Yeah. Depth character. So I mean obviously, it's not the most popular one, but I, I don't know every time he's on there on the show. I feel like he feels the same so big hand, you know, everybody likes here. He and deniro's John's now, etc. Etc. So little head to have somebody. That was a little bit of my own. So always been a big time when fan I'm kind of a Lord Bayless fan. He best reflects not only my own values, but who I am. Alive. That's not okay. I did want to ask you before we get to the Broncos. Do you were you were you at all do I did a with anybody? In game of thrones. Yeah. Man, I guess I would identify with. Probably sounds you know she's kind of nice to way up by. I want to give anything away, but every single thing, she's kind of taken a little bit from somebody else. Yourself in grown into what she becomes later on. So she, that's he's definitely one that I feel like I would kinda grab me, I'm a little bit of a little bit of a nerd, so probably a little bit of Charlie as well. Unfortunately, but, you know, understanding your strengths and weaknesses. I don't know if you're there yet, but. That's one of my dudes. I absolutely loved his guys at scrap it from the bottom, maybe you brought to the blackwater to. There you go. So good. Dave dropping their okay. Nick. Onto the Broncos little sore pick it. All these names of dry, just credible. Okay. Nick kendall. Joining us here from mile high huddle offended by the Broncos, deciding not to practice today. There was a weird buzz on Twitter about people being offended about that. What were you one of those people I have no issue with these guys are working hard? It's it's many camp right now. And to give them something like that, and I'd give them some team chemistry. I mean, it's, it's the NFL season grinds have you can get, give them anything to bring them in themselves, enjoying this little more a little bit of camaraderie going on. I have no issue with it at this time of the year. However McCain does have the, the benefit of having that, you know, new car smell so to speak. Like Vance Joseph coming off of the year. You know, struggling whatever. And they kind of did this kind of thing I might have a little bit of different opinions. But with everything going on with the, the new coach and everything I'll give him a little leeway. I got I got absolutely no issue with it. Well, yeah. Again it's kind of become standard practice around the league now. So guys, you know blow off some steam the last day before your head now for the five week break. I mean come on, I you are still a third Iowa City, right? I work at the university of Iowa hospital out here and the work there full time. And you know, do a lot of stuff on the side. So big Denver Bronco analysts fan, whatever. But also a big fan of via dialogue Hawkeye. So you know where I'm going with this next question. What can we expect out of Noah fan? Yeah. No, he is such a unique and fun weapon. And been really exciting to watch his career at the university of Iowa over the past, you know. He didn't really make much of an impact freshman year. But yeah, that's kind of I was a developmental program. They bring those guys in, I believe I was strengthening conditioning coach crystal was the highest paid one in the entire college landscape. And I mean he he earns every penny 'cause he turns these kids into I mean. Farmboys into these NFL lineman. So I mean I can't imagine. I can't even think of the last time the Denver Broncos had a weapon like this at the tight end position as a receiver. I know people will kind of think back, maybe Julia Thomas, but I don't think Julius town has had the. Or the that Noah fan head. And, you know, if you're coming into a system yet did takes the right kind of system to really utilize tight end. I feel you know, you can have a good athlete out there. But I mean look no farther than I guess Yvonne to the lions for. There. You know, good athletes, so they're good perceiving weapon. But if you don't have the system to kind of uncover those guys, it doesn't really you can take advantage of them. But then you see him go on your team like the past year and boom blows. While he was drafted, I believe ten Dover all those years ago. So really excited about him. But Noah fan and I one thing, I gotta say watching him at the university of Iowa that some people made a hullabaloo about it's blocking. It's not bad. It's not bad. I mean, if you compare him to PJ Hopkinson, who's one of the more flashy dominant in mind, blockers at remember in a while, and, you know, offensive and haymaking highlight walks, but you're not getting on the field university of Iowa at the tight end division. If you're not blocking consistently executing your blocks and that's exactly it. That's exactly what I was. That's a cut you off there. I'm sorry, that the I was talking to namedrop here, real quick. I was talking with coach Ferriss just a couple of weeks ago, and he, he made it a point during that interview to say to talk about fans blocking and say that people were underestimating undervalued saying, I wouldn't let him on the field at the university of Iowa that exact quote, I wouldn't let him on the field university of he couldn't block. I mean, if an excessively to execute zone stretch, which is a huge part of that university of Iowa offense sometimes to some people stepping in. But if he wasn't blocking he wouldn't be out there. So I think that at worse, he's gonna come in and be an adequate blocker is he ever going to be dominant in inline blocker, you know, happens in gronkowski? Travis Kofi, you know, that that's not in game, George kill another one. That's, that's fine. But you can be adequate there. He's not going to be a liability. And then you add on top of that the incredible athleticism that he has to all of the field and his red don't ability. I mean that red zone ability is something that gets my gets my heart pumping because he was such a dynamic weapon there. I believe he was the best red down weapon in all of college football over the past few seasons in terms of the efficiency, there and the numbers they put out in the university of Iowa, the spread offense. The air rate is taking college football by storm. That's not university of Iowa. Definitely more of a run century. Offense. And to get a weapon like that to be utilized. And in the red zone scoring touchdowns. Is something that? So excited for how an Email. Have been when it comes to scoring when they trying to get in the red. Yeah, it seems like the Broncos could really use that a lot of teams probably could. But the Broncos specifically as we're talking about them, now, the, the Broncos worrying position, there pick ten to take Devin Bush, they ought to, as we know, trade back, and they didn't really address inside linebacker. Speaking of Iowa players or former Iowa players Josie jewel showing a bit of belief in him, now, I thought he actually looked pretty dang good at least yesterday out of practice. Do you think Josie jewel and Todd Davis are going to be good enough as the inside linebackers for this team going forward? Why do you think that, you know, just being a, a roster analysts in perfectionist, I would like to see a little bit more athleticism and versatility from that position. Maybe somebody that's a little bit more range. But I think that if you guys, it's kind of like, again, bring it back university of Iowa. Josie Joel even said this, if you guys missed coverages that are playing disciplined and communicating with each other than that those athletic limitations that both Davis. And does you'll have in terms of coverage can be mitigated. Now they're going to have to do a little bit more with the secondary covering those guys up. Sometimes you don't want them to be matched up. See. Todd Davis matched up against a slot receiver. And I mean that was a nightmare that was going to happen. So you're gonna have to little bit to cover those guys up with the back end. But I think that, you know, Fangio obviously defensive mastermind, they'll do a good job of those guys really come down to the communication, communication, and executing those zones and their coverage as well. Going back to the offense here Ryan and I have had a debate for the ages. Kind of a Lancaster's versus Starks, if you will about courtroom Sutton. I you know, I look at cordless talented receiver, but I see a guy who's probably a career number two receiver you want somebody with some some wheels and quick twitch ability to take the top off. Div Ryan is convinced to that court lane Sutton is actually better than Calvin Johnson and Jerry. Oh, wait. Is that trying to get your exact quote here is, is he said that he had to be better? What was it better than Calvin Johnson? Still. It's still welcome. He believes he can be a true. Number one wide receiver in terms of productivity. I could see Cortlandt coming away with no more on production. I just don't see him as a guy that you think long-term. He's a career number one receiver where do you come down on this one? Well, it is a little bit early to say. So I mean it's common a few season. Take going granted when you have people throwing the ball, it's kind of hard to take off typically, but I think something does have the flash is. I'm just curious if he is overall by enough to be that true. Number one. The way I see it a low end number one or a high end number two. And right now, the way FEMA and maybe on Jeffrey maybe Allen, Bob Anderson where you know, he's that size we burner speed. But with his ability to play above the uses. You can't make them play. But he's gonna have to become much more consistent in his ability to separate underneath the intermediate routes and be more consistent with his hands, but really comes down to that separation ability..

"Not just teaching the teaching the coaches, right? They they've they've already established a bit of that system in place where it's about sort of filtering from the individual to the group to the team to to the organization they've gone back to those kinds of details. And that's something that again, we've been around enough teams. It's not always like that. And that doesn't as it goes back to the original question. How can they be a contender division? We don't really know those. Yes, they can be. But but those are all things that were being applied before. And so you say just by the argument of it's different. And therefore, we hope it's a little bit better. Sure. It can't they can't be a good team this year. It could also take a couple of years. And I don't think it's a bad thing either. But but the thing about it is that what decisions do you have to make after this year for this doesn't work if this integration doesn't work you made a lot of changes a lot of changes if this. Interational work. How long do you run with that? You can't keep changing coaches every two years. Well, right because then you the Cleveland Browns of five years ago, and nobody wants to come work for you. And I think that's I think that's you know, one of the reasons they went the direction that they win the steady hand experience zig zagged every else was looking for the next McVay. And they're saying now, we're looking for, you know, Vic Fangio we're looking for defensive primacy. And I I think it's interesting because the identity of this team the next year or two is going to be an offense of identity. You look at all the talent the youth on this team. The the the young superstar towns really offense inside of the ball, you gone out and got court and Sutton patient health and Philip linzie, Royce Freeman Sheldon riser Connor McGovern starting to come into his own you paid for a second contract offense attack. John james. Yeah. You got Joe flacco. But you also draft drew lock Noah fan. I mean, the the identity this team is going to be explosive offense. It's the pendulum swinging back the other way that's not saying you don't have young talented defense Yatom show flashes. He needs to learn how to close that place, Bradley, Chubb. Obviously, look very good in his first year, you kind of gifted that. One Josie Joel instinctive rotational linebacker the athleticism to cover with the ball. But in terms a run funnel guys been pretty good. You go look along the defensive line and Shelby played. Really? Well, I don't think he's an anchor knows. But he's he played really well had had a great season last year. Now, you can come back to that. There's a point there that is a slight concern about the run stopping ability of the D line that that I think, you know, we don't really know. But that's something that that can be monitored a little bit that they had a couple of moments last year where they they really had some really rough games. But they short some things up in the run defense later on in the season. We I think we think of the jets game and the Rams game. They struggled against power on teams. And they they did they did. And so sure that's something. But the the size and the bulk of the D line. Well, the guys don't talk Petco even sign with anybody yet. No, yeah. He'll say available. So what might be concerns was getting a better push up front. Yeah. No. If the one thing he does he's consistent reliable, and he gets push. So bring him back Doma. A when you're veteran. Yeah. Maybe I don't know what they're gonna do that. I think they feel like the pieces that they got in the draft and dream on Jones. Shelby. Harrison Zach Kirby, the guys I think they were legitimately think. Well, and they they had Walker put on a bunch of weight. He's going back. But I think he's still going to be that three or five taking. I don't think he's moving to zero not no not at all. But it's also Vic Fangio's philosophy about the D lie moving guys round. And I I wanna see what Walker looks like with a little bit more weight on him. I feel I don't feel bad for Walker. But I do the whole yoyo thing that they've been doing with him, and he had been good enough at any of those positions sticky would have the other side of that is that he's got to put it. It's like the old dick for meal quote about Larry Johnson. He's take diapers off and become the guy like if you. You can't sit here and cry about they asked me to do this. They asked me to do that will be good enough at one of them where they're not asking you do anything. But that how about that. We have a conversation. The other day on the show again, Ryan Edwards Benjamin Albright with you here on KOA NewsRadio three three seven one three eighty five. Eighty five text line five six six nine zero. We're having a question about how bad that 2017 draft class for the Broncos could ended up looking if gear polls doesn't end up really taking a huge leap forward. Because you just mentioned what Walker? It's one of the two worst draft classes in Broncos history. Well, and not free in two thousand seventeen of the two worst Broncos draft class guy. Eric at home with yahu sports did his list of the worst draft classes since two thousand now it's too early to say that about twenty seventeen but boy is getting close we talking about all the guys that are not even on this roster right now. And that's just a couple of years for move. Right. We're talking I mean again light years removed and you'll have half your draft class. That's weird. That's that's that's weird. But yeah. I'm trying to think of radio safe way to say this poor evaluation. That's the best way to put it. That's just a poor job evaluating. And so you can take a look that class. Now when we look at that class. It's not so much to pile on its to say, that's why you were eleven wins in the last two years because you had too many drafts not that bad, but bad enough that now you are you're force the last two drafts have been have been good. And there's definitely some intimation excitement about what some of these prospects can bring. But again, that's all it is until proven otherwise. Right. But the thing is is is Ben this is the deal, man. You can't miss on drafts consecutive years because the teams that were on that list. The raiders the Jags the Browns were just again trying to clean this up dog crap. Right. They were a great portion of the early two thousands of mid-2000s. Well. That's the thing is is that's how you replenish your roster. That's how you keep your suffering getting in trouble and having to desperately go to free agency. And overpay somebody at a position if you continually draft well, and you draft guys that are going to be good enough to be next man up. Well, then you've replenish Gerard naturally. And you've got to be able to do that. But you know, teams like Jacksonville teams like Cleveland who traditionally run the raiders way overspent and free agency. We're always bad because they were draft poorly. The Portland trailblazers lead the Denver Nuggets eighty to eighty seven or eight seven to eighty sorry about that. My computer's freaked out as seven to eight Portland trailblazers lead the different nuggets eighty seven eighty after three Portland wins another quarter here. Twenty nine twenty six the fourth quarter coming up. We'll bring you live reaction. Right. Everett's Benjamin Albright live on KOA NewsRadio eight fifty AM and ninety four one FM. Glimpse. They. You've got all kinds of hustle, like get the job done hustle and get the kids out the door hostile..

"Steve atwater. We do this bit. Where we head to court, and we have to argue a point in this court case. This. Nice for Casey. Okay. So tomorrow, we have to argue a side of a case. Whether we've completely believe in it or not we have to argue represent the people. So my case I have to argue that the Twenty-eight teen rookie class for the Broncos is going to have a bigger impact overall on this team than the twenty nineteen class. Now. This is crystal ball stuff. This is us looking into the future. Now, Andrew gets to argue Fancher Mason who is the brain. He is arguing with benefit of a quarterback in that they spent that the traded up in the second round. So I feel like I have a little bit uphill climb already to argue the twenty eighteen class the much it pains me to go against my guy. Drew lock. I think your angle is to say we don't know that that quarterbacks ever even going to play down for the wrong goes Joe flacco job the next three years, and they might go to the go to the well again. Good stuff. We're arguing here counselor his conjecture. You know, you don't have anything to. And that's that's the argument that. Impact already with Philip Lindsay. And Royce Freeman you've impact already with wide receiver to Sutton. Oh. Sanders. If you say why? I thought I was gonna get you this too. That you might slip in there. And you is gonna slide that when ready so I say why receiver Steve atwater who's going to be the judge? He's going to throw the case out like why receiver to why did you take him? The second round should be wide receiver one courtroom inside continue case though. Well, how about wide receiver zero if you look at the wide receiver? So we're taking the twenty nine hundred class. None of those guys are going to be breaking Tim, Patrick Hamilton, or Portland Sutton. So you don't really have to worry about that you go back to you can look the offense of line. You could say Dalton reisner might make an impact. But but really he brought in a guy who was a pro bowler in Ron Leary couple years ago, and what what was his total impact on the win total. Lyman really impact the bottom line when all said and done, and then you go back and look at it. And no offense that's going to be a tough one to get around. You know, what going to be a tough on how you gonna play that. Well, that's really the crux of this. Because the other guys in this class after the first three Holland's zeal, the guy it's going to be an impact player the way the way I initially thought about it because I know a fan a lot the way I thought about it is you brought back a majority of the tight ends Jeff here you brought him back in a contract. Jake is healing up. And you have golly. Which is part of that class. The Broncos have a belief in that group that was there hedge they went and got Noah fan and Mike Klis, by the way, this is where I'm going to get really creative. Mike Klis came on earlier today on Lewis and Logan saying that might not even be a starter. Yeah. That's not gonna happen. But all you have to do is convince Steve atwater for argue for two minutes. All I just convinced. For two minutes. The possibility I would go the other direction with it. I would acknowledge that fat is going to be a starter acknowledge that he is the centerpiece of Mason's argument and say, do you think no offense is going to have a bigger impact and Philip Lindsay? I would acknowledge off its try to deny it. I'd walk. I walked Mason into making fan the focal point of his argument. Kinda like that with a little Philip linzie undrafted free. I took that angle on one of them with Steve where I before he could even make his argument. I barely I want to concede the fan. I concede that you're going to have you trade back for an impact player. I'll concede that. Yeah. When you look at the the classes a whole boil Mason down to a specific player argument where he's got. He's really is only going to have a three player argument. Yeah. Fan. Phase are all that one corner is going to be pretty good in the linebacker at Kansas probably gonna stick around. But the told me the the this UTSA clash of the Broncos, or you know, there's Philip Lindsay, right? You got one corner in there. That's this decent linebacker there in other than that. Well, there's written. Okay. Whatever. Hey, we love a Kyle slaughter tad Kelvin. And that's exactly how I would put that arguing that, you know, the Rippin impact. Well, you know, it's really great to have you know, he was going to impact is going to impact radio. Okay. Clipboard sports, talk radio a lot to talk about with you know, future backup quarterback Brett ribbon. A can't wait to watch against the of man that's going to be that's gonna be some fireworks right there. I like it. I like a lot of what you're doing. So so concede a certain amount berry. What basically try to narrow in on what he's actually going to be able to argue. I hope he's not listening right now. 'cause he's probably he's probably calculated to present. Right. He's like always. Yeah. So he he's listening right now taking notes like, oh, this is your eagle all of a sudden tomorrow. It's like let me take this one. I and I'm like no as soon as he does that I'm I'm done. You could do it either way. If he wants to go first, there's another way you could pull this off. You let him go first. And then you minimize the impact of what he said. Post concede concede fat. Yeah. You know in the end super the crown jewel of your class. Noah Fant is going to have how much of an impact relative to Philip Lindsey. I think I have to go. I if I can. But I, but I tend to like to go second in these arguments because I don't like I don't like when they get to throw my words back at me. You don't about. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe a little bit. Yeah. Maybe maybe I've kept my head a little bit. Okay. That's good stuff. The one thing I'm worried about with the Lindsay argument is Lindsay chose the Broncos. And that's something that I can't I can't because he's the crown jewel of the class. Like, we could talk about Bradley Chubb and how he's spectacular Cortlandt Sutton day. Sean Hamilton, didn't even notice high didn't even mention Bradley Chubb, and that's the peaceful resistance, but you come back with at the end, you talk about all this other stuff always exciting young players. And by the way, we got Bradley Chubb out of that two rookie franchise record setting sacks -actly who's gonna be the Dow von Miller von Miller yet. So that we know his impact what he's gonna we don't know if drew locks ever gonna play. And that's how it sells good. But I'm worried about the rebuttal part of Philip Lindsay chose the Broncos. You gotta help me get around. To talk into it. He was gonna take the better deal. Baltimore. I know. That's what I'm saying. That's a strong argument for Mace. Because if I'm saying all these great things about the twenty eighteen class. All he has to say is what would it look like without Philip Lindsey. It would still look like Cortlandt Sutton day shot Hamilton, Bradley Chubb. You know, I would still be Josie Joel it would still be an impactful class yada. Looks like a guy who's going to stick around. You know, it would still be class rife with impact the undrafted free. We didn't top Jeff Holland. Yeah, you're right. But Jeff, Holland isn't a lot for the roster. I think he's gonna make the roster. But he's he's gonna end up being the rotational in Holland is going to be a rotational on the other side and inside the shack role where hall is going to be the Shane role, by the way, we talked to Jim Levin today. Who of course, coach. Yeah. And then we talked to Mike with PF. They love Holland's flexing inside two inside line. Put it out on Twitter as drafted love it. I put it out on Twitter when he was drafting people six five two hundred forty pound line inside linebacker. Yeah. Get ready that that was cool to hear because because I'll be honest, a six five bordering six six inside. Linebacker sounds a little little freakish to me. I don't know how I felt about. But when they said that actually Renner hadn't even heard it yet. He hadn't heard Fangio say that when I said that he's like, oh, I really love the pick up until that. I was like I mean, he's he's a little bit of a Twitter is body. Type isn't really doesn't have the physicality he thinks to play the position that way. But as soon as I mentioned that hey, Vic Fangio came out his press conference and said, hey, this guy is going to play inside. He's like, oh, well, that's a great pick for the Broncos. Then he's got the four five speed if he can go backwards and away from the ball, you can play different coverages. You can play Tampa two with him as the center fielder. And all the sudden, you can't lob the ball against the Broncos over you can't split the safeties because that guy's going to be so tall that you're not gonna be able to drop the ball in the bucket there. That's the thing about playing cover to you. Need a middle linebacker Derrick Brooks lead the Tampa to depends on the Atlanticism inside linebacker in the middle linebacker. So the Broncos who are really cover one cover three. Team right now can go any direction they want. If you had that lead athleticism height at the inside linebacker middle linebacker position because you go away from the ball. You can't drop the ball and the buckets, but the safeties because at linebackers gonna get an swatted away. Right. So that's where the length of the passing. Yeah. Beautiful. No. And that's the thing. But it's just I'm just not used to it as much, but the length is great, especially if he's got good coverage skills, and he says and long Jim Levitt said he's we trained for that. I mean, he's got he's got the coverage skills. He's got the speed. It's just going to be have to be utilized. But you know, what Vic Fangio's made a career out of making my backers better and played better to higher level than than they were before. So. Talent is was stop danger Veith, and obviously we know him roquan elite talent. But Nick, White House keys a guy he got exceptional production out of when he was on the field, and he was at athletic limited linebacker, so so that's something that is very encouraging Mike Reiss. Our good friend, Mike Reiss who you a hero. Colorado's morning news. And he's a mad about town listening right now appreciate that. My he points out something that's gonna help my argument a little bit said reisner kind of actually thinking that as you were saying that. But but in the end the Broncos had to choose to choose him. They ate his case. Choose me. Yeah. You're right. If anything maybe that's wanted to go to court on. The Dalton reisner Plymouth rock. We land planning Plymouth Rockland, adult right? Reisner adult riser tell the Broncos like that. I like that. Well, Mike, I appreciate that. And then again, hopefully Mace's not listening because his getting a lot of behind the scenes prep on my court case. I don't take it easy on my courtroom prep. See this is where the killer instinct in the thing. It's all about winning. This is where I I I'm entr. The reason why I'm worried about this one. It's funny because I tend to go into these things with a lot of confidence. I feel like I can argue any point. I already we did this without the court. And I said that I take the twenty nine hundred class. Two days ago before we decided we're going to go to court, and that I don't have that sound bite to have that some by. And that's that's the problem is I you Arash opinion evolved with education. You're welcome. That's going to be up against Andrew Perry. Mason. Do think about using that never what what is my problem. How is that? Never come up. We've done pun with that. When I say doing. You're eating prep with with Ben Matlock Albright right now. But you know, you're puns abound in here. No, I always put in like, the you've been Maistre. You got maced Mason. Andrew perry. Mason you welcome for that other put that in the rundown tomorrow..

"Coverage begins here on Xtra sports thirteen hundred slightly better than the eight thirty tip off with the nuggets and blazers last night, but not a whole lot although hockey generally quicker. Is it? I think it certainly longer feels like it's quicker. Yeah. Because faster. But you're right. They take the two half times. And they play a full sixty true, unlike basketball, so yeah, must be a. It's just the pace thing. Yeah. The pace. Yeah. That's true less time out, right? Especially the last all even. Mark Knutson is going to join us in the next segment. Former Rockies pitcher we got checking on the Rockies. These haven't been awesome. The last couple of days, but overall Rockies playing much better baseball will figure out why. And also how do we look at the brewers? Rockies lose last night. He sues Aguilar, I believe was batting zero point zero zero one going into the game last night. I two at bats. He homers Christian yelich Dana play last night. So it's. Nemesis or they just a hurdle that the Rockies have a long way to go before they can award a thorn. How do we help to rise the Milwaukee Brewers because it seems like there's a thing? There's a thing there. Yeah. Not unlike the nuggets, and the rockets like nuggets in rockets seems like there's just a theme. There matchup problem something going on there. So we'll hash it up with more coming up in a little bit. Bottom of the hour. Crunch time. Your thoughts. Always welcome at two eight six zero zero four six. Report today. Out of the Broncos saying they would have drafted Devin Bush if they did not trade down. Did you know that? We all kinda. Yeah. It doesn't surprise the code for. Who has this report that just popped up on my screen? That is that's kind of a, duh. Really? It's like hashtag, not breaking keying. Oh, there you go. Speaking to a national audience. I mean that was going to be the case as much as I wanted Dwayne the happen. It wasn't going to know. And we do that a week ago. We did. Yeah. It did seem like Bush was the but the reports, but it's so that's not surprising. I think what's the more. Interesting report that comes out of the draft. Is. And I don't know. It's a as a report as much as just connecting dots here. I think the Broncos really wanted TJ Hopkinson. I think that's who they really wanted. And in again, you can trade up for that. That's that's no in John you'd have to give up a lot, right? And John Elway was going into the draft. I think with the mindset of I would rather trade back trade up. Stay cuz don't go any higher than ten bright. I think he wanted to get depth. Yeah. As the primary focus of the draft. I think they were willing and even with the devil Bush thing, they think they're willing to say we're not going to trade up, and we're also not even going to take a guy at ten because. We want the depth. We want more guys. And and we talked about that. A little bit. Yesterday is that because of the cycle the Broncos have been on in terms of always building through free agency. Now, they're in a spot where they really do need to stock up so to speak on on guys. Well, what's interesting is they didn't even take an inside linebacker at all at all. So cornerback inside linebacker, or at least a true inside line. Right. Neither one right. The kid out of Oregon is an outside linebacker of his athleticism. But yeah, that's another Josie jewel. If you are not ready for primetime. This is your time, man. Still a little bit surprising that they that. They didn't go inside linebacker. But look after you after you pass on Devin Bush that was it. I mean now is a rap on the inside linebacker just wasn't that deep. But one wonders why they didn't take an if there was two guys worth getting why they didn't get the second guy. But it not totally surprising that they didn't end up with one. But maybe a little bit of like with the we were talking about last hour with this whole Chris Harris thing coming to ahead sue pretty soon. Is it a little bit of John Elway look back and was like. Being get middle linebacker. I got Thanh Davis. I got Josie jewel and why they did sign to KOTA Watson true more of a special teams add than anything else. But at least plays that position. But I think I think it's Josie Joel I mean, I think that's one of the things that as far as the Broncos draft picks concern, you know, fans going get every opportunity to be the starter at tight end probably should be given the problems at that position has been. And then, but the swing guy to me is don't reisner does he actually start and have an impact in his rookie year. A lot of people seem to think so I have my reservations. But he's certainly a guy that you spotlight and then on the other side, we didn't do all of this and the draft. So now Josie Joel is really out opposite. Todd Davis is you're starting middle linebacker. So that'll be interesting to see. But we're a long ways off from that. We are living in the moment with the Denver Nuggets. Of course. And Colorado Avalanche. I the nuggets get the game. One win last night. You heard it right here on Xtra sports thirteen hundred. Even though is close. I thought it was pretty emphatic. I never really got the sense in a lot of it is the way you go in to it. Right. Because you go into the Spurs series a little trepidation, right? Your little bit worried your little bit nervous. Because of what the Spurs are. And what they've been. And the way they play too. Because from a matchup perspective, it is much better to have a team like Portland that shoots. A lot of threes than to have a team that drives to the basket in the San Antonio Spurs Yokich as much as we love him, not a rim protector. Of course, we saw with Derek Whyte did early in the series to Jamal Murray. So you go into the series with the blazers if I've made any impact on you at all on this program. I think that you would feel a little bit better about the nuggets in blazers as opposed to the nuggets Spurs. But I just felt like last night. I never really doubted that the nuggets were going to pull out that game. I know Yokich scored forty plus in game six with the Spurs, and they still lose. But the way that he was playing the way that they were defending CJ McCollum only goes seven seventeen from the field and his canter. Just not really a factor. His shoulder doesn't look right. So deeming Lewer gets his. But it's kind of like the way I felt with lamarcus Aldridge. Okay. Let him have his you can't let Derek Whyte and Brin Forbes beat you. So Damian Lillard is going to get his and that is that is fantastic matchup, even though they're not going to guard each other. Yokich V Lillard is going to be outstanding Paulk Lee wrote about it in today's gazette. Would like the nuggets to advance by sweep if possible, but if you're a basketball fan. You want to see nine games of Damian Lillard and nickel. Yokich mean, the skill set that those two guys have and in south is and I think they're going to be doing every night. I think you're gonna see again, even though they're not guarding each other. You're going to see them going back and forth matching each other basket for basket and putting up ridiculous numbers because I little bit because of their talent, but also a little bit because I don't think either team has really an answer. For me. I don't think anyone can really guard Damian Lillard, and I don't think the NS canter or mohawk Lous or Luke. Baughman Tae is going to be able to contain nickel Yokich. So that's going to be fun. But I think the most heartening thing from last night. Is you listen to Michael Malone talk, and he wasn't happy. He wasn't a happy camper. After the game. He was very critical of the Denver Nuggets on the defensive end. And if you're. You're not convinced of the nuggets being the favorite in this series. I think looking at the fact that they won the game. But yet. Gave up a ton of points and Michael not being happy. I think in a weird way. That's like, okay. The nuggets we know the blazers are going to get better. They're gonna Atta marris from Denver. Stiff joined us in our number one. You know that they're gonna make adjustments. You know, they're going to try and do some things, and you know, that guy's a guy like CJ McCollum is not going to be seven of seventeen forever game the series. You know, Portland can be better. But I think also you watch last night you say the nuggets have room to improve certainly both Michael Malone and Paul Millsap talked about how they felt like they weren't.

"Have you been travelling the Middle East? Kind of torn the toward the world. Mike all over the station channel nine nine news. I've been everywhere except for on the Rick and Kathy and Dave Logan show. Well, we just needed a little break from each other. I think the football season and everything that either that or there's a message in there. One of the two. We're back. So today you are out there. The the the minicamp anything. Notable anything. Interesting anything. Catch your eye. Of the practice. Forty five minutes. I would say, and then they went another hour fifteen day went into teen girls. It's it's I guess they do this every couple of years voluntary minicamp, which they give teams with new head coaches. These guys pretty much from doing jumping jacks for a couple of weeks to to out there on the practice field in going at at eleven on eleven the guys that are healthy. And I thought flacco look good. I tell you what you see them. There's the presence that that he's been in the big leagues for a while the last few camps. Since peyton. Yeah. At the quarterback competitions between semi Lance one year. It was with Sanchez, and you know, that was there's drama in every practice on that last year case was the guy, but it was his first year and the guy. And he's confident and everything, but there is a difference in Joe flacco, he's been the guy for eleven years. And boy he goes. Cheese. He's more of a relaxed type guy. He doesn't have to got an in there. But it, but it gets in there. It's got zip on the ball. And then probably the most interesting thing besides he looked in practice was you know, we asked him about the number ten pick. And Joe was not so subtly sent the message that. Quarterback. That's a waste depict that he's going to be the quarterback in this team. And he wants them to take a guy that is going to help the team. And you know, he says if if they think that's a quarterback fine. But understand he's going to be the quarterback. So I kinda liked that. That he went through that last year with Lamar Jackson and Lamar Jackson didn't beat them out so much as flacco got hurt. And then when he got a he got hurt for three or four games. And when he got when he came back the ravens winning with Jackson. So they stayed with them. Handle that pretty well. But this is a new season new team. He's hired gun. Coming here with the when the idea being the starting quarterback, they might let me ask you this. The the draft coming up here. Shirley, Bronco said the tenth pick overall, the people that you are talking to what's your gut? Tell you in terms of what the Broncos will wind up doing. Heard several scenarios depends on the day depends on the person you're talking to. I know the Broncos are setting the board this week. But I do not think there, you know. I I've been saying this ever since they got flacco that they I do not think they're taking a quarterback at ten. Let's start there. I do think they'll take a quarterback but in the middle rounds possibly as early as the second. But but probably in the third fourth fifth round range, and then you can just go through the positions. You take the best player at a position of need. The problem is they're their biggest position of need is is a guard. And I don't think you take a guard at number ten. No. You don't do you really think their biggest position of need is a guard. I do. Well. Well, I thought about that. I I say linebacker. Inside linebacker. You know, you got Davis Josie, Joel. But neither one of those guys play in space, and what's interesting about that is there's two guys. Here's what I I'm struggling to reconciling. There's two guys Devon white. And and and Bush the linebacker for Michigan. And I don't think the Broncos want Bush because he's a little on the smaller side. But Devon white is to start at inside linebacker, and we asked Vic Fangio at the coaches breakfast a couple of weeks ago, and he said he doesn't think either of those two linebackers ours. Good as roquan Smith. Interesting. So. Yeah. And so now, maybe he's. You know, sandbagging a little bit. But still take Devon white. And you go, you know, people will ask him. What do you think about your coach saying, you're no rock Smith? So. Ev everyone had the Broncos on Devon white, and and including me, but I've kind of backed off a little bit. Because what banjo said a couple of weeks ago at that coaches breakfast, real quick, Mike. Have you noticed any difference any significant difference between Fangio practice and avenge Joseph practice? Not really because it was different because they. Today. They had the grass field that hasn't quite taken roots. So they split up the offense inside the field house and the defense on that little small it's not small it's one hundred yards. But that's all there is artificial surface field right on the other side of their weight lifting facility. So they had it split up. And then when they came together, we we took, you know, they kicked us out. So you won't really not training camp. As far as comparing apples to apples. This was a this was a different deal. One thing that was different. These guys were game jerseys in practice, not their practice jerseys and Fangio said he likes to do that. Because the game jerseys are tighter, and he don't hold as much. I I really I resisted the temptation to say that the Garrett Bowles hall. Probably a smart move on your part, there might Garrett would've stuffed you in a trash can. Yeah. I know so anyway. Difference. Anyway, mike. Hey, it's good to talk to you. And we'll be talking a lot more now as we get into the draft next week. And then all of the the training camp and everything else man, we're getting close. So see what happens and at number ten, actually, my my best guess guys the trade back somehow, someway? Yeah, you know, what is good is in the other idea there so far Mike, thanks. We'll talk soon. That's my class of Broncos insider, and it's four forty six hundred with a look at traffic..

"Sure. Oh, absolutely. That idea doing Tina Marie song. Unloved teena Marie. She could blow back in the day. Now funky is white girl ever probably. Yeah. White. Yeah. Signed to Motown. I white artists signed to Motown Rick James kind of discovered Rick James why I'm like well. I thought Rick James's black. No teena Marie was. Yes. She's gone. Early early. She had a seizure. She had a Caesar problems and then one of them killed her. Oh, who's only in early fifties? She's fantastic too bad lover. But I did not expect teena Marie to look like that. That threw me off the only kind of red hair. This is her in two thousand ten. Oh, well, yeah. Two thousand from one thousand nine hundred eighty. Okay. I'm kinda cute in one thousand nine hundred. I mean, if you look at the three of us nine hundred eighty look at us in two thousand ten. Different pretty cute nineteen that threw me off that because you look like a. Janice joplin. Yeah. She looks great when she was younger. Yeah. They called her Bonilla charm, lady, t casper, shed, some curly red hair. Oh, she was amazing. Yeah. Rick, James prodigy. I think they dated for a while. They did some ballots together some duets together, really really good stuff. Teena marie. Real name. Mary something may Christine. Brooker? Yeah. Wow. It's called how did she get the name? Tina, Marie don't know. There is a Brazilian singer named Tanya Maria. I wonder if she I always wondered if she took it from her Tania Maria is legendary Brazilian singer. I betcha teena Marie took it from her. I'm thinking I'm trying to find out where the name Tina Marie. Yeah. So. There was some sports news today that we could we could kick around a little bit bread Marshall looks like he's not going to be back for the Denver Broncos. No surprise there. Not surprise. No. They would have to pay him. I think it was six point two five million something like that to bring him back. There's a chance he could be back. They they could you know, he'll be out there in the open market, and the Broncos can still re-sign him depending on who wants to pay him and how much they want to pay him. He some people thought he might be a good fit here in this Vic Fangio defense because he's more of a speed linebacker. He could run, but he's been hurt. You know, he's been banged up quite a bit actually foot issues. And I think he had a knee issue last year that kept him off the field. He wasn't healthy for most of the year. Right. I mean, I we've had him on the show so many times, but I heard him interviewed. Somewhere news talking about last year in basically historian was you know, I tried to play through stuff, but I I would write all year long. And that you know, that that's one thing that will say about NFL guys and fans how they when fans fans go to games or whatever. And they see. Number fifty four in this case with the helmet on. And he's playing you're assuming everything's good to go. Right. And then if you're a step slow or your whatever, it's like, oh, man. What what are you doing? But I'm just saying you don't feel sorry for those guys, but they play through stuff in rarely after early early this season. Are they one hundred percent? You're just trying to be out there and find a way to get the job done. I think we look at these guys more like almost like they're they're not human almost robot robotic because of the helmet. You can't see their face. And all the padding assume they're ready to go. You don't see you don't really see the the human behind all of that. Now so much as a fan watching. There's a lot of needles involved before games. I will I will just say that I'm not giving away any state secrets even back when I played tore it dole. I mean, there's guys that have to take shots at toward altogether. Get through a game. They just they just do. And that's that's it's it just it's the way the NFL has been and is currently, and I would guess will continue to be. I remember a season of few back where he played he hit a screw in his foot in the screw it come loose. And he had this loose screw in his foot. He played the whole year with an had a good year. He he's had some good years here for the Denver Broncos. He's been a good player. He has he has been leading tackler a couple of seasons while he was here. We know him. He's a good guy. He's done a lot in the community. I know there are some people that really dislike him because that the taken a knee and in the fist during the national anthem. And I get that I did too. But he's a good, dude. He's he's one of those guys that he not only talks the talk. He walks the walk a lot in the community. I agree. And I would say this. I know that Josie Joel played a lot last year. He's a fourth round draft choice thought he played pretty well. And again Jules only had one season. But right now at this point of their career if Brandon Marshall's healthy, he's a better player than Josie. Joel. That's just my opinion. He's a better player. Now that doesn't mean Josie Joel will turn into a good player. I think, but but you know, there's he's got he's got Josie Joel's not the fastest linebacker in the world. He's not the biggest guy in the world. So I, you know, hopefully, the Broncos will look at this and say, okay, if Brandon goes elsewhere, but they've got they've got to find another couple of guys inside. So that Josie jewel in presumably Todd Davis. You know, have not only competition, but they have some backup to. Yeah. Brennan Marshall kinda got healthy at the end of last year. And I think he played in the last game and he made some plays. He made a difference. Yup. When he was out there because he's just he's faster. And he's a good guy in coverage. Yup. And I think that's where Josie jewel is lacking right now in pass coverage. I think he's a he's a good enough tackler. But he, you know, he's got a lot to learn as well as you said, it's not it's not an easy position to play in a rookie. What was Josie fourth round third round work? Okay. Do you think for a fourth round pick? He held his own more than held his own. I thought he was I thought he was okay. I mean, I thought he had moments. There are moments where he just sort of got engulfed with a block, right? There are moments where you know, he's trying to get off a block in and there's other moments where he makes tackle. So I mean, you we should see sizeable improvement from all of these rookies the played this year next year. But that's specially guys played a lot. And he's one of them. I man I just think you know, the position is going to be more natural the game's going to slow.

"And to me, I think I think it was as good of a result is they could have asked for the what they were fighting for what they were. You know, the bigger picture that that work is never gonna end. And I hope Colin Kaepernick takes the money. He gets from this settlement and donates a giant chunk of it to worthy nonprofits that are fighting for the same thing. He is that work is not done. But to me. The goal of this collusion case collusion is so difficult to prove. You have to have that smoking gun in order to be able to prove collusion. And I didn't think that Colin Kaepernick was ever going to get it. So the fact that he drug it out this long was this big of a stain on the shield of the NFL. And walked away with something. I think I think is a win and more importantly, I think many people who did not know or did not care about the cause that Colin Kaepernick was Champigny championing. I think a lot of people now know, and maybe even some of them are. Advocates or or doing or donating to nonprofits are doing something in their community. And that is certainly his bigger goal. You could certainly say that also for Brandon Marshall. Colin Kaepernick college teammate at Nevada today. The Broncos informed him that they would not be picking up his option, which from a dollars perspective means that the Broncos will not have a nearly nine million dollar cap. Hit four Brandon Marshall. But they also won't have Brandon Marshall. And. While I agree. That Brandon Marshall is not a wine backer worthy of the amount of money. He was getting paid. I do not think that the Broncos are necessarily completely done with him. I would not be shocked if Brandon marshal was back on the Broncos at a reduced salary. And if his time is done with the Denver Broncos. What time it was? Because I know again, he got a lot of flack for not only the kneeling. But also he was a popular punching back for upset Broncos fans. Thinking that Brandon Marshall was not. Pulling his weight and Brandon Marshall even today via Twitter kind of acknowledged something to that effect. Not. Hey, I'm not any good. But he acknowledged like I've been hurt for the vast majority of two years. I was not playing at my best. He said quote much love for Broncos country is still not over yet. But being injured two out of the last three years after the Super Bowl killed me. But that's life all land on my feet as I always do class. Ask a class act. I rate dude. And say what you will about kneeling and all that kind of stuff. Brandon marshal was one of the guys who not only did that he almost immediately went out into the Denver community. And. Started trying to effect change. He did ride alongs with the Denver police department. He met with city leaders, including mayor Michael Hancock, so say what you will about the initial. Act that Brandon Marshall dead. He's certainly followed it up with some really good work, and everyone that covered him today has covered him today's appreciate showed their appreciation and gratitude towards a Brandon Marshall and the way he conducted himself, and how gracious he has been with the media and that. You can take that or leave that some people are very friendly with the media for the reason. That they can manipulate and get the message out that they want. But Brandon Marshall is not that kind of a guy who's just a good, dude. He is a good, dude. I don't want to eulogize him. And I'm sure he will land on his feet somewhere. And like I said it could be Denver don't rule that out it his release. Does create an interesting. Question when it comes to the Broncos inside linebacker position because I already thought that a name that you need to keep your eye on this off season is CJ Moseley CJ Moseley is an inside linebacker for the ravens, very good. The best inside linebacker on the market in free agency. And I thought that the Broncos with or without Brandon Marshall, we're going to be interested in landing him. Now, they have the money to perhaps afford him. But I always thought that there was a good chance. CJ Moseley ended up a Denver Bronco. Why who plays to the side of him because some people today are saying well Josie jewel, it's like Josie Joel had a nice rookie year. There's no doubt about that. He's going to turn into a nice player. But John wants the Joe flacco deal went down. John Elway flipped into full win now mode in Josie jewel is still a couple years away from being from realizing any potential that we see in him. So I don't think that Josie Joel is just going to be slotted in next to whoever the Broncos bringing him via free agency in at middle linebacker. So the question is how were the is Devon white Avella shoe of a top ten pick. I think he talent wise he is to me. I can't get around cornerback though. I can't look at the Broncos with the tenth pick and say that they take anything other than a corner because it is such a dire dire. Need? But certainly Devon wipe from LSU would not be a head scratcher at ten and there's also pretty decent depth at the linebacker position in this draft. So perhaps the Broncos go corner at ten and then look linebacker in the second round or maybe even the the third to try and. Get somebody. But my my prognostication is CJ Moseley. Is the number one target. I'm not I don't know CJ Moseley. I'll know his motivations. I don't know. I'm not calling my Sean and saying he's signing with the Broncos. I'm just saying I know that the Broncos are and they should be interested in him. And I think that this move with Brandon marshal wall, you could see it coming that money. They're saving could be used to try and lure CJ Moseley from Baltimore to Denver. Two eight six zero zero four six your thoughts on Brandon Marshall. I can already see the texts coming in kind of a split. Some of you saying Brandon marshal was never really that. Good. It's not gonna it's not the worst thing in the world that he's not a Bronco anymore. Some of you saying Brandon marshal was a valued member of the Broncos. And you're sad to see him go. But you could give your thoughts either way on that two eight six zero zero four six coming up next. Some breaking news today from the Denver Nuggets. And the timing is not all that shocking. I'll tell you what it is after we take a look at your Friday afternoon commute..

"Morning news. We kind of hit it off and mesh and we've kind of all together. And so I'm just here to serve him and he's in a new role as head coach. And so we'll just do together. But eight years, you you kind of know how how each other work new Broncos defensive coordinator at donatelli says he's ready to hit the ground running. He and head coach Vic Fangio as he said of work together on a number of teams the past eight years Donna talented offensive coordinator. Rick scan Garoppolo introduce themselves and answered questions of the media at Broncos HQ yesterday. Broncos insider, Mike Klis was there and joins us on the live line sponsor by Colorado's for responsible energy development. Learn the facts at cred dot ORG good morning. Mike morning guys. April mardi Mike here with you. So Donatello confirmed that Fangio will call the defensive plays. It sounds like he's okay with that. They've worked together for eight years. No problem. Right. Right. Donatello. Does get the coordinator position which comes with a couple of extra bucks, by the way. So that helps that helps them with Fangio calling the place, and that's the way it's worked. They were together in San Francisco for three years, I believe and then five years with the Chicago Bears and both places they resurrected defenses that were struggling and made them one of the best in the league. What I think their their personality and their style is they get eleven guys to play his one. When I watched the bears. This year was amazing to me. It just it really jumped off the TV for you. That they gang tackle. And there's five guys five six guys swarming to the ball. So that'll be exciting. The Broncos played that way in two thousand fifteen th or Super Bowl year haven't seen it quite as much sense that bodes well. Because in many ways at least the defense from a personnel standpoint, the bears kind of set up like the Broncos Khalil Mack. The guy for the bears. We have von Miller. So in many ways, it's a similar personnel. So I think that would fit in well with the scheme. Don't you think it does in the in the Broncos do have an extra pass rusher there with Bradley Chubb, the one thing personnel wise, the Broncos need to work on for Vic Fangio, and that Donald L is they got to get better at the cornerback position. And they've got to get I think a little faster at inside linebacker Vic Fangio's linebackers can run and he likes he likes speed at that position. And Todd Davis and Josie Joel are very good in the box tacklers. But they don't have to the speed that you'd necessarily like Brandon Marshall does. So we'll see how but it's gonna be tough to bring Brandon Marshall back with his contract. So we'll have to see how it all works out here in the off season player wise. Mike, certainly there's a lot of things the new staff has to do. But is it at all strange that none of them are at the senior bowl. You know, I from what I understand Fangio. I think is only bend to the senior bowl. Once there are some coaches that go I think more than half, though, do not go. So, you know, I do not think this is a new staff, and so they have what they're doing this week. And I know Gary kubiak in Minnesota's doing this to he's not at the senior bowl by the way during stalling the new offense and installing the new defense, and that's they do that among coaches, and they gotta valuate their own players. They're still going to be a lot of time to evaluate the prospects. Namely at the combine here in a couple of weeks after the Super Bowl. What's your take on scan your willow as offensive coordinator? And how do you think he's gonna mash at least this next year with case keenum? Well, he's the question Mark. And maybe the most exciting of of the coordinator. So he's never done it at the NFL level before he's done it at three. Small colleges over six seasons. He's been an offensive coordinator and play caller. He is a Kyle Shanahan disciple. And he makes no bones about it. He's he's admired him from afar. In it started in two thousand nine once game guerrilla was a quality control coach, which is down on the bottom level of the coaching ladder. And he was with Oakland. They were running the zone west coast scheme and from a fiery saw that the Houston Texans were doing the same thing. They just replaying at a different level, and so gained Grillo started following Shanahan wound up meeting some of his coaches, and I got on a staff for three years. And so you know, we we all saw what George Biddle forty Niners tight end into the Broncos defense. I really it was a month ago few weeks ago, and so that that's the type offense. They're gonna bring here. It is exciting. We're excited to see what they can do. I like the coaching that they've gotten place, Mike Klis. Thank you for your time. Thanks, guys. All right. We continue this conversation with Mike Ryan. Yeah. A.

"Banged up. Chris junior split reported with a broken fibula any any update on him. And and also, Derek Wolfe and Josie Joel Christmas break in his lower leg. So we'll see about him moving forward on Monday. And Tuesday, we value with him wolf. He's got a little bit of a rib rip issue. He should be okay along with rest, but obvious losing Chris for a game or even two games is Hughes for defense. But hey, you know, we have to bounce back next man up and we have to move on. Listen, you guys have won three straight. And again, you've talked about winning one game at a time. You've got five games left. The next one is is San Francisco. I would guess you've got to really liked the mindset of your team right now. I do I do, you know, our our team heaven flinched in about a month. Okay. So whatever happens on the field. No one we lost three starter. Today on defense. We've got five I'll total no one's flinching is a guy winning and played at a high level sort of sewer Craven's Justin Simmons plate nickel for today's flinched the coaching staff didn't flinch, and that's been the way we played David last month and a half. Yeah. Congratulations. Thank you very much. That's head. Coach Vance Joseph brought to us by Ameristar

"Doing good. Oh, no. They happen. Here you go some some filled linzie love because it was nice to feel like we might have actually had. I know he wasn't drafted might have actually hit on a decent draft class last year. Obviously clearly to tell always taking a lot of flack for some draft classes over the past five years and really like what I'm seeing from job and Freeman and Lindsey was undrafted. But also Josie Joel put in the middle Milan. Baecker spot. He's been starting Lassie game. So it's it's definitely exciting to see these these young guys step up for Denver. I liked courtroom citing a lot to and some of the tight end. But you know, it was a unique game. I mean, it was definitely miss inventive. I've seen the Broncos play calling on offense. Some of those misdirection plays. I Tony Romo really pointed out that really they weren't beating the Steelers defense as much like straight up head to have they ran that some success. Running the ball. But a lot of the bigger pass plays were very creative play design the yesen fake screen for the dump it in the middle of the tight end some of the the fake bubble screens and things like that where they were leaking guys scene and that stuff that really they definitely game plan for this week. So I definitely interested to see what you think about the Steelers game play on offense though. And why you felt they threw they threw the ball so much. Well, join you know, we we hit on this earlier in the show, but we were teasing it for later in the theme of tonight's podcast is or the Steelers using James Connor right and lucky I realized he he did have that fumble. But I cannot I'm not complaining about fifty four yards on the amount of carries that he had. He averaged right at four yards a carry. And here here's the thing though. I'm complaining about the carries. And the reason I'm complaining about the carries is every time that he has wonderful teen carries. This team loses. I know it's a setup the it's it's a setup the run with the path type of league now. But Pittsburgh does very well when they set up the the past with the run, and so in this situation, I wanna see them us honor Moore, and Tony I'm gonna ask you Tony. Do you think that they are utilizing corner the wrong way? Like I do. I think they're deserving him. Now because I think they're afraid that they're not gonna happen for the playoffs based on what happened to them in the past. They've lost so many running back at the end of heading into the place. I think they're afraid of that again. And I don't think it's much of a coincidence that this all started when heavy unbound when deadline passed so I think that's do. I think using them long. Yeah. Because. So much of their their offense was bell it flowed through through James Connor whenever whenever having success against against the Browns against the foul Cowan's against you know, ravens Bengals. Passing is tight ends and receivers and. Like they were at the end of the beginning of the year or middle part of the year when they were having their best assist on offense. Are they using them on? I don't know. Because again, it all comes down to this statement yesterday, if they don't make those mistakes, and it's a masterful performance. So I don't know if the using them wrong, they're definitely using them mice differently. And I don't know what what we can expect now five games they keep his preserving him. Or are they going to let them loose like like they did the middle of the season. I guess what the find out. Hopefully, hopefully, it'll it'll be positive what they decide to do..
