"Out the basement? So. So let me explain what's going on here. Why is it phony first of all I listen I, use satire all the time. I'm no warrior I. This is what gets me warriors this is not a war you want a war, go serve our country's see what these guys went through. That's insulting to call this a war. That's why you see me that get up and all this other stuff. There's a daisy out of a toy machine gun in the peace symbol. So that's fun calling it a war is people trying to elevate themselves to this higher calling the other reason why it's phony it is not. About climate and science anymore it's about an absolute truth Verse Relative Truth and our way of life. It's God's absolute truth is written in the Declaration of independence. Independence we hold these truths to be self evidence Joe Biden, and hope you're listening that all men are created equal that they are dow by their creator with certain unalienable rights among these life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That is an absolute truth. What happens when relative truth for instance, like Marxism gets in the way or the playing field keeps changing well, guess what happened you have to start obeying other men and it gets in the way of. The greatest. Gift God could ever give you which is free will so I, love my country I love my Lord Above Okay and I love the weather since three years old this is all I ever wanted to do study the weather forecast the weather that's my job. So what's happened is the weather is under attack it's being dragged through the mud now for political purpose and what I'm sitting there going it look if you had someone you loved was being abused and dragged through the mud when you stand up and defend that person and defend those foundations. So I I pay compliments to some of the unbelievably valuable. Research on the other side of the aisle there's some really good people in there. Believe me. Okay. But they're now they have been taken over a lot of their what their research has been taken over. So what I do in the book folks, it's easy. It's it's like shooting fish in a barrel because I know all these situations because on Bravo because this is all I love all. I. WanNa do what I do in the book as I just laid out chapter after chapter about how show examples of how the weather was worse before the Nineteen Thirties. If I did not study the nineteen thirties I would not. Have believed that it could have happened with the heat the wildfires, the hurricanes it's on it's unbelievable. What was going on so there countless examples, but let me tell you something folks. Let me tell you something. Okay. This has become such an indoctrination in one of the other reasons I wrote this is because there's a there's an air a fear in our young people today and I really you know I know a lot of a lot of guys I used to coach to have kids that are twelve, thirteen years old. They're afraid that they have no life that the world is going to go underwater. So what? I did at the end of the book and the Chapter Fourteen in the book I believe it is is I offer a suggestion and the Republicans the Republicans actually have part of that suggestion. I'm not trying to be political, but they're right. They have the trillion tree project that they're talking about. If you look at the what we call the keeling curve was feel to it goes down every summer because the Northern Hemisphere, Greens so there's an imbalance. Now what's causing that imbalance is it man is the oceans be you know the oceans outsourced to I? Don't know but the point of the matter is you can do. That who is going to stand against him buyer mental answer nuclear power even James Hansen who the godfather global warming hey, nuclear power. He's he's been advocating that I've been advocating. It's amazing. We're folks we're prisoners to Jane Fonda and the China Syndrome when that movie was made, it scared the daylights out of everyone. This is the United States of America wake a bill safe nuclear power I think Dan Crenshaw has a good idea with carbon capture but this stuff this stuff would take away the fear I am sensitive could that people fear this stuff? I'm also sensitive second way maybe I'm wrong you know when you forecast The weather every day. The biggest lesson is gratitude and humility. You understand that you could be wrong but I don't think I'm wrong but I do want to help other people and so the book does something other things don't do other books. Don't do doesn't say let's take ten trillion dollars out of the economy. So you don't have any freedom says, look, we've got a we've been a lot a better solution over here which makes sense right? So that's that's that's the river that flows with this book. All right. I watch all of these things. Now have we gone through periods where the global temperatures of changes then? Tell me whether our carbon emissions are increasing or decreasing you go through periods with earth cools the earth gets a little warmer. Is there a natural ebb and flow what you believe their argument about carbon emissions causing? This is accurate. Well, it'd be the first time look it's the sun the oceans to cast events. The design of the system man does have some effect. It's a matter of arguing over. They say, Oh, you're dinar. You deny this you know don't I'm the guy that uses climate and the changes in climate to make a living and that's the other thing too. You know got knock against the government academic do such great work and you know people knock no no has a lot of great people that do great work believe me I look what? What's your research? Okay but the fact. is in the private sector if you're not right, you're going to get fired. So there's a bottom line. So what I do is I was taught this by my dad, my dad's I know something you cannot know the future we may believe something about the future, but we don't know it until it happened, but you can figure out what happened before. So what happens Shawn is just like just like. When I when I read your book I was looking at how you would describe in history it's like your chain wrestling you go from one thing into another. It's why you're so good on the air you're always prepared what I decided to do was 'cause I love it. I love history and I love the weather history I went in and looked at everything so winter storm shows up i. Can Say I. I saw that Remember Harvey hit Texas and of course was I took over the show for about a week then but was saying well look with flora did in nineteen sixty, three in Cuba, which by the way Castro accused the United States and President Kennedy of stalling the hurricane over his island to destroy his island right a hundred inches of rain more than what Harvey did so. Instantly these things come up and it's just countless examples. Average person doesn't know that what I do for you in the book folks, I lay out my argument I'm not asking you to believe me. I'm asking you to all your mind in hardy gets. Going to wrap up our time with jobs viewer haven't gotten the book it's it's up on Hannity dot COM Amazon.com bookstores everywhere. "There it is. John Rich Big rich and wow we have one ticked off country Music Star embar owner Redneck Riviera Guy. Country Star John Rich take an issue with the Tennessee mayor. Democrat is named John Cooper Nashville after it was discovered by a Fox affiliate down there that the politicians politician's office was keeping important and vital corona virus data from the public because the figures were so low in other words wouldn't justify the draconian measures that they were putting on on business owners and residents in the great city of Nashville anyway the emails between Cooper senior adviser in the city health. Department revealed that there were low incidences number cases emerging from bars and restaurants, and this is now. People's livelihood on the line here and anyway It's gutted. You know he said Mayor John Cooper's betrayed our townies betrayed music city. He is the Judas to this town. He's now the New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio of the South while John Rich joins us now of the hit duo big and rich I don't blame you for being pissed off I. Mean I I. Don't even want to ask you, I mean, you pay a lot of money in sure either rent or your own the building or mortgage every month? How many employees work at redneck nervy air? Hey, Sean. Well, it's not many not how many that work there how many used to work there ask it that way. Okay. How many used to work there Ninety, one. So a lot of people. Ninety one just in my bar. So I'm not upset at on my behalf that the businesses shut down. Do I like that? No well, I recover from that yes, eventually. Sure. But I'm talking about musicians, bartenders, waitresses, security guys are backs, all the people that do the actual work and bring the talent to the places in our town that Dr Millions of people from all of our country and even around the world to Nashville Tennessee to music city, those people cannot recover. The those people most of them have moved back to wherever it was. They came from in the first place Sean I know of of direct stories of musicians that were pawning instruments, selling their their cars, selling their equipment trying to keep their rent going. So they could try to whether through this until Mayor Cooper would turn everything back on and they could go back and do it as they love to do, which is making music and chasing down the American dream, but he never turned it back on, and so they didn't recover and they went back home, and now we find out that at the fingertips. Of this mayor the entire time he had the numbers he had the proof that said I don't need to do this level of a shutdown because that's not where these cases are coming from but he didn't do that. He killed the one thing that makes our city tick and that's our music I mean it is it is it defines music row defines national. It's what makes it a destination city now and an Nashville has been growing by leaps and bounds in part because the less regulation lower taxes and it just seems to be the antithesis of what people expect when they moved to Nashville I mean. You're seeing more and more people there. They are leaving New York, California New Jersey Illinois in in droves and many of GonNa Texas and Florida the going to the Carolinas and the GonNa Tennessee I know tons of people moving there well, the governor of Tennessee Billy yesterday declined mayor Cooper's request for eighty two million dollars more in Kobe relief aid because he said I'm not convinced that Mayor Cooper handled Alaska ovid relief money ethically, and so he turned it down. So this actions the fact that you lie and mislead and I mean just straight up. Lead us down a path that is so destructive. Now, our governor is saying no more. I'm not gonNA give you any more at at the behest of everyone that lives here. I'll say this this mayor has brought unity to a town that I would say is probably fifty percent Republican fifty percents Democrat. Pretty much split in Nashville, but we're all unified now that. This mayor has hung us out to dry and I think, yeah, the Word Judas fits him very well, and you know his brother is Jim Cooper he's our congressman. He's the one that represents Nashville then our area in. Congress. So you've got mayor Cooper running the town and his brother is our congressmen and this is what they pull on us and by the Way This happens right after you guys went through a horrific around tornadoes down there and I talked about it at the time and I talked to a lot of my friends including yourself at the time I mean it was devastating and it hit with virtually no warning whatsoever and he hit at night and knocked down the power grid and a lot of areas. House that has that recovery yeah. You know the tornadoes ripped up then comes cova during Cova in June while he had this information and made his moves like he did, he decided the our taxes up on everybody in Nashville by thirty four percent property tax hike. He did that to know what I'm thinking I'm thinking John Rich for mayor. What do you think? Kiat, are you kidding me? No, I'm not no. I'm not kidding you. I'm dead serious well. More fun I know that I would like to see somebody that actually loves our town and loves what our town is about I. Love Nashville. You know I, Love Mash Nashville. I've I've been able to hang with you. I was at the Redneck Riviera Vegas with you and and big. Kenny. This is when by the way Linda was being weird and dance on our own, which is a whole other side story. You know I just think it's a little weird to go out and dance for and just like tear it up. But you're by yourself I was in I was in hold on a minute I used excuse me. John is on my side I. Don't know if you know he's not on your side. She can tear it up and you know she's a great singer, right? I hate to tell you I am on Linda side which. Fan. I was hanging out at the back of the bar shooting whiskey which I only do with you and you know every time I've ever. Whisky you make John God listen I can. I can. That's about the only whisky l. ever drink is when I'm hanging with John Rich and you you cannot hang out with John Rich without. Him forcing you and I'm a pretty strong guy you know to just suck. Whiskey L. struggled to get you to drink that with. So because I went in the back of the Bar, and if you served the country, you get a free shot of redneck Riviera whiskey and I was hanging out with those guys. So a new group comes in to do a shot with them another group come to another shot with them. That was in the bathroom for an hour after life is hard, it's just so hard. For Me Sean if you told the truth right now and then you don't have to. In your underwear with a cocktail right now. Such a jackass. What? The funniest thing is John. He's got this huge pad with a a really cool bar in his basement with the ability for the bands to come and play in his basement. I just have never been invited to the basement I. Don't know I didn't make the cut list well. Troy Daniels and.

"As they do Donald. Trump Tower Shaun I've done a little debating and my years and I would suggest this the president's not Joe Biden's debating moderator, and he needs to force that moderator to ask the tough questions job that he needs to asset moderator why you're not asked him about this why be not asked him about that and at some point, the moderator it's either going to have to be fair or what's going to be become very clear that It's a one sided debate which we saw many instances they force it fair. If they ask the tough questions, trump will destroy Biden these debates last words Scott. The president needs to get topics out in the discussion that nobody wants to talk about in the media coverage You Know Joe Biden says that China is not an opponent, it's just a competitor, but somehow Russia is an opponent I think the president needs to bring these issues up and then let show by talking about them for two minutes. Yeah. I do I think he can turn to Joe and Joe you said this and Joe you didn't support the travel ban of the quarantine or the subsequent travel bans and Joe you said not a single American. With dying you know I mean there's things joe use you talked about racial jungles if we integrated our schools he sorry for saying that he could ask those questions. All right guys. Thank you. Appreciate it. Quick Break Eight, hundred, nine, four, one, Sean. You want to be a part of the program. We told you about what was going on in Nashville the government they're that they're absolutely lying about the low incidence of Covid when they could have allowed businesses to get back up and running and jobs keep people.

"To stop us from winning those states and we're doing very well your take Scott. Rasmussen. Well, I generally agree with. John, at the racist tightening at it certainly has tightened from a month or two ago right now, my latest polling shows that Joe Biden is still up by five points among likely voters, and Donald. Trump is getting eleven percent of the African American vote. But look the biggest challenge for pollsters. This cycle is trying to identify who are the likely voters. We've never pulled during a pandemic before, and so we're trying to figure out exactly who it is going to show up and vote in Jonah's right. These tossup states these battleground states up here, very, very close within the margin of error and the issues are trending a little bit in president trump's direction instead of talking about the health part of the pandemic were more talking about. People are more concerned about the economic impact instead of talking about the civil rights and social or the racial equality issues that were dominating early in the summer, there's more of a focus on law and order forty eight percent of voters fear that violence could come to their communities. Those shifts help the president and Sean. The other big issue that you know we're we're not bringing. Up Right now or that, not a lot of people are talking about there's an event on September twenty, nine, eight presidential debate usually I spend the entire week before debate saying it won't matter this year I think it might I think it's going to matter a lot actually you know Joe is not impressed at all. He didn't get pressed at all. It got pressed on one question fracking. And and by the way, and then he gave both answers I'm like, did I just hear what I heard that towery? How do you see the race now I see the race tightening in the national polls concerned about the battleground states, Michigan Trending Down Arizona Trending Down Florida, going back and forth and to be honest with you, we have the best candidate in. Donald Trump. That I've ever seen I, if I could never have Ezra better candidate than Donald Trump, he works himself to death. He is the reason he's in this game, but I can tell you I'm here in the in the in the swing county of the swing state of the entire Country Analysis County Florida the ads have not been there Sean, they're just beginning to drip drab out. Of Ground here and I hear stories that we have these massive organizations for trump and these various states I can't find a sign. You can't find a bumper sticker. No one's knocked on a door I challenged the trump campaign to live up to their candidate because trump can win. He can't do it if we act like we were saving the money for Election Day because most people are going to vote before election day we've already started this election it started right now. Well, I tend to agree with you I'd like to see parody with the ads run I mean when you forty six days how it's no, you know you don't hold back it's you flood the zone. that. That's somewhat troubling to me if they're not running as many ads. You. Know I took and the Joe Biden ads are just full allies I mean John, Mclaughlin I watch these Biden Ed. You're thinking is the pillar of strengthened and health and it's just so phony and fake. I mean. It's so the opposite of what we're really witnessing and then he's out there lying he's GonNa, take away your Medicare and he's going to he's going to take away preexisting conditions and destroy your health care. Well, I've absolutely you're running. It's kind of this. The teleph-, it's what they told her about political as political consultants where we get criticized for. When you're running this campaign and and it's not what the reality is there but. By you know, the other part two is the Republicans. We have to do our own ground game and Cetera all these nonprofits that are working for the Biden campaign while he's able to invest in TV they, you have these nonprofits doing their get out the vote for them and registering voters, etc. so this is a real battle, and as far as the truth, the media doesn't they don't challenge them they don't ask them the. Truth when he said when he attacks the president on the virus, no one in the media says anything about Joe Biden posing the travel bans about Joe Biden saying it wasn't going to be that bad i. mean there's all these statements that he said back in January February march where who's criticizing the president what he had to do to protect the country and the media is totally forgotten those things they have. Joe. Biden's memory, right? Where the AD campaign has to come in Matt towery to to counter that phony narrative because it's a phony narrative, and now during a debate, the president can do it. But then then that debate will be highly watched is what I would anticipate with regard to the debate I think the president should be challenging Joe Biden can you come up to the stage was eight, eight, thousand books and notes to look at that's what they're going to try to do if they. Even show up to debate which I'm still not invincible happen. But as to the wall, how does it get out of debating? I? Don't think that's going to fly with the American people. You know what Sean they been able to get away with so much. You saw the George Stephanopoulos town hall, the other night I mean it I'm a foreign. Newt Gingrich Guy and I was in news. Now if I've been up there and I had berated someone the way. George Stephanopoulos dead. I would have been massacred by the media towers buys. He's a Republican when I when I retired from key half the people called and said, they were going to see liberal tower relief because I called it like it is then WanNa laugh I was up head to head against that townhall on cable and and we won by almost a million viewers. I mean that tells you know I'll tell you why nobody trusts them the mob and the media with nobody believes them anymore they've lost all credibility, their state run television absolutely absolutely, and I do think they are helping the president in the. Sense that they they gang on so much become. So obvious it's a repeat of two, thousand, sixteen all over again. They don't learn anything. So I don't see a lot of enthusiasm and I think a lot of trump supporters are not gonna tell any of you pollsters a thing if they're voting for Donald Trump to just not gonNA talk to you Scott you know Sean I. When you talk about enthusiasm I think gets back to another comparison to two thousand sixteen. It appears that the Biden campaign thinks that all you have to do hate donald trump all you have to do is say The president is not acceptable the fact is in two thousand, Sixteen Donald Trump talk more about issues than Hillary. Clinton. The fact is he's talking more about issues than Joe Biden, this time around and I do believe that that is a mistake by the Democrats to focus exclusively rely exclusively on the fact that Donald Trump's character is gonNA, win the election for the Democrats I. think that's a gift to the trump campaign. Yeah. Well, I mean we'll watch I think one of the things now there's a fine line for the president. In this debate let's analyze this John McLaughlin in terms. Of I would say, you know, Joe Biden is going to memorize his lines. He'll be pretty efficient at it. I would assume he's going to have a lot of you know red bull or monster or rockstar energy drinks coffee before the debate telling me be wide awake for I guess how long has it debate going for an hour while tell you what let me get to this other side in but this is important to me because he's got to face a situation that he's not had to face ever and that is so opposition because Donald trump will have the chance to challenge him. So, we only have a minute and a half of our pollsters. That's thirty seconds each we'll start with you, John? McLaughlin. How does the president thread the needle asking Joe Challenging Joe in a debate without coming off as maybe too rude to to the ever frail and weak Joe, the president himself. And he will be directly. So the questions but the worst part is Joe Biden we'll do fine in debate he debated already this year plenty of times he's he gave his speech they'll have pumped up and the media will always young. They won't let us lengthen the questions to like two minutes or anything like that because that's when he makes gifts so so I wouldn't I wouldn't go lowering expectations on Joe Biden because he has debated this year, he survived Camera Harris and we we need to make sure that the media's fair and treats him as tough.

The Fulton County da Paul Howard now that we know tasers considered a deadly weapon under Georgia law from his own mouth, and now one of defense attorneys speaking out very loudly that the DA has it wrong, Leo. How does this end up? charges being dropped on the officer accused of the Salt as far as the felony murder. I agree with Geraldo. Sooner or later churches will be reduced against the shooting officer and I hope for that particular officer fail is reduced so that he can walk the streets and prepare for trial, and a change of venue will be a hammer. The defense will use over the prosecution around the house. How does this play out in reality not how you want it to play out. I A good, well phrased I think sadly. The jury will split along racial lines. a hung jury at the state level. They'll take it to federal court. Civil Rights Case against the officer for denying Mississippi Civil Rights. you'll still be negotiated settlement, and the the officer will do five years I'm GONNA mark this down here as you all say all right Geraldo. Thank. You have a great father's Day. Leo Terell have a great father. Day thank you both. When we come back speaking of Father's Day, we'll talk about it with John Rich. "The state is bringing charges against him. It just proves my point which been clear from set. This prosecutor is trying to win reelection. He is being. He's playing politics. He's using these these two officers sean as. As part of his campaign strategy, and there's no question the fact that they wanted black white scenario. These officers were black I. Don't think it would be overcharging. And I was seeing some of these claims charges against the officer eventually being dismissed, you know. Geraldo, I, know you take a little different view, but you also likely believed that this was way This was an overcharge in every particular way correct. Oh, absolutely! Sure. This was a preposterous overcharge. There's no. That, this was the kind of premeditated Felony murder that you would need to to invoke. A possible. Death Sentence! It is when you think about you know a child killer. The cats are Davies head, or for mass murderer or You know a terrorist. You can think of places where the death penalty is arguably appropriate. In this case, it is absolutely preposterous and extremely unfair to both of the cops involved I think that this was a very tragic incident and from looking at the tape myself we are you know we we. We all have the advantage now with all the fighting games in a dashboard cans and surveillance video from the establishment. The Wendy's and so forth we we know pretty much. What happened. I think the case will boil down. It won't be Bras, and it'll be all, and they'll be whether or not He was in reasonable fear of his life when he fired the fatal shots. You know it's a very in a sense a simple case when he shot Mr Brooks in the back to times, was he in reasonable fear of his own life or reasonable fear for the life of some other innocent third. Third Party and that's what the case will turn on. It'll be a question of fact. it'll. The jury will decide. you know if if the attorney for Roy is good, is the attorney for the other fellow I think that the the officer has a reasonable chance of of a of a of a positive outcome, but yet they're remember Leo hinted added insurance. You've been talking about it a lot. This case is not happening in a vacuum. This case was happening on the on the most popular. Listen go any good defense lawyer Geraldo I. Know You agree with this is going to remind this jury that their duty. Their sworn oath will be not to think about what the public thinks not to think about what other events might be going on in the country. This is about facts, and this is about a standard of facts presented to the jury, and in other words will twelve people find the this officer guilty of what would be a death sentence murder, if in fact when they are presented with the evidence, because the law is clear, if police officer reasonably believes he is facing imminent danger or serious, bodily harm, he or she can use. Use Lethal force. Now it just so happens. It was only a couple of weeks ago that we know the district attorney. In Fulton, county Georgia guy by the name of Paul Howard laid out the case the other day had said just a couple of weeks earlier as you..

Rodney Clawson Is an Accidental Song Writer

"We have a wall on the screen Ronnie that we put everybody songs on it we couldn't all your songs you have so many number one song yeah well I mean I know there's people out there that have a lot more than me but I don't know arrivers five hanging and see what they say that's what my asthma therapist asked me do she gets just say thank you I'm shocked when I see it too so I'm like L. and by because each song the worth of it we have estimated you're worth a billion dollars are you say over or under a billion I would say well well under well over got it that means Ashley Gorrell to billions of where you are in the get off this but you are in the elite sorry we all we have something we call the elite three artists that have the most number ones that have on the podcast and you're part of that and there was a room we'd all clap and probably give you a standing ovation uh-huh and there's not a trophy but we'll mail one to you okay and may never come to you but trust us we've been wh what is the trophy we don't know yet we haven't actually invented that we just say it we'd never send it out something to hold your bed it's a belt it's a it's a championship you'll be receiving it in the mail just watch for it so what's interests about your story is you actually were writing songs and they were having a bit of success before you've moved to Nashville right yeah so you were in in Texas up in the panhandle got out of college and farmed with my dad for fifteen years and had some connections here in Nashville started Started writing songs had three or four Three or four hits before I moved out here in two thousand five so I got a I got a publishing deal in two thousand and went back back and forth for five or six years my dad retired and moved out here full Tom so you've got a publishing deal without living here right which which at least oh no by then but now that's pretty rare because part of the publishing don't sign you as they want to set you up on rights all the time and if they're setting up on it nobody was part of that they wanted you to write not only in town but to pay you to keep writing at home too yeah I mean I would come to town one week a month and I would have have you know half written stuff ratified things about myself and you know hey here here's a verse and of course you know you lock it or not and I wrote a few few hits like that you know so you were farming either fifteen years yeah he finished school kind of farm corn leads bean's big center pip sprinklers you know in the Texas panhandle where it rains like fifteen inches a year so it's almost desert so you're living the country saw right yeah I mean out of school you live the adult country song right yeah and what is your drive in the tractor listening to the country songs things that now we're trying not try to plug in like well the guy on the tractor which the guy on the tractors not maybe the core audience anymore the back when I started it was I think the as you were writing songs while living on the farm and you're working what's your what's your dad think about me we the ambition that you had to be a songwriter what's funny is my family mom and dad aren't musical at all so they were supportive but I I don't know if they even understood what I was trying to do which I mean I after I had had a publishing deal in had several hit songs I would come back home I would come to Nashville and riot and come back home and my they would say like you sell Nissan's this week but he explained the business him so many times I to this day I don't know if they still understand what do they do know that my song played on the radio and you grew up what what town would you be closest to I I grew up five miles west of groover Texas okay and you'll hit Amarillo and go ninety miles north so I know pretty well we just play Amarillo care the thing about Amarillo that's the part of Texas that gets Snow Right Yeah Oh yeah and it's about the only part of Texas that really get snow yeah we we've had some big snows so you guys got seasons in Texas Oh yeah so you finish school you're you're working on the farm writing songs are you I'm just trying to understand what that was like are you carrying a guitar as through the day like this down time I would I would maybe on the tractor I would get an odd in my head and I mean it's it's so different than what I do now because like we'll go you know you go and you meet a couple of buddies somebody has an idea you try to write the song one day we'll I had like weeks to work on an idea like driving a tractor you know but would mainly you know put stuff down with guitar like go home at night ten o'clock at night going with guitar and try right like that too for a couple of hours that guitar just the music come from if your parents weren't musical that that influence was day Well I mean I was in I played piano growing up and I was in band choir and I learned how to play Guitar probably I think about it guitar when I was maybe twenty years old also a letter or yeah I mean I didn't try to wrap my first song till I was I think like twenty eight maybe it wasn't like for like most people like four and I saw well my I had this is kind of a weird story that I I don't like to share it with people get it just sounds weird but I had a friend of mine who left Gruber Texas and came out here to Nashville and went to Belmont and got in the publishing world here and she randomly called me hadn't talked here in two or three years randomly called me one night and said hey you're songwriter and you don't know

Dana Perino on Developing Her Own Voice

"After spending seven years in the Bush administration rising to press secretary Dana Perino had become comfortable speaking speaking on behalf of others including the forty third president but she transitioned into roles on Fox News after the White House Dana develop her own voice who cared what I thought I could tell you what President Bush thought and why he thought that are how we got to that decision and I was very comfortable in that role on the first episode of Season Season Two of the strategic wrist Dana Talks about how she always remembers to focus on the good news how she deals with social media trolls and how her career in country music is progressing. I'm Andrew Kaufman and this strategic presented by the George Bush Institute what happens when you cross the forty third president late night sketch comedy and compelling conversation. The strategic has a podcast born from the word strategically which was coined by the now and embraced by the George Bush administration station we highlight the Americans feared of leadership and compassion through thought provoking conversations and we're reminded that the most effective leaders are the ones who laughed. We're joined for today's episode by Dana Perino former White House press secretary and now Fox News Co host the five host of the daily briefing Dana Perino podcast co host of I'll tell you what she's a bestselling author so you're pretty busy. Thank you for taking the the time to do this. This honored to be here. I I love coming here to the Bush Center. It's whenever you step in that front door. It's like wow this place is beautiful. Thank you for saying that and doing such great work thank Q. and our co host is Hannah Avni your friend and VP of external affairs. She's back again Hannah. Thank you for doing it again. Thank you for having me again Andrew so Dana you so you recently you're now we're recording artist as well. Gaza May dierks dirks a Dirks Bentley superfan right. I yeah superfan Fan. Also I get to call him a friend now to happens if you stock long enough so. Do you think he's going to invite you to be on a song the backup side when you have a number one song in the world. It's kind of like you. I don't need to really do it again. I don't think but it's pretty funny when I worked at the White House. Well let me go way back when I I was in college and I thought I wanted to go into media back then if you wanted to get into TV you had to start in radio and I didn't want to have to do my radio experience after right graduated so I got a job part time job as a country music. Dj working overnight and Pueblo Colorado and I ah I didn't really I had grown up in the West but I had really listen to country music when I was a teenager I didn't really do that so I was completely out of it I I I introduced the first night a song by Tracy Lawrence and I said and here she is with their new Song Tracy Lawrence and then of course raises Lawrence's a man uh-huh tricky. I we have to do so fast forward and during the years at the White House. I don't think I listen to any music back at all. I didn't even have an IPOD when we left. That was the technology at the time I had nothing I listen to. NPR or whatever else was happening rush limbaugh or something so Kakitumba on the news and so when I left the White House or when we all left the White House I got an ipod I guess it was and I used to travel back and forth to to New York a lot and I just started downloading country music and Dirk Bentley Song Come. A little closer was out at the time China so that's how we became a fan. Would you like to sing a little bit of but I do have the worst voice but the other thing you're talking about is I don't I'm blessed with having lots of ideas and not a lot of time to execute however so in two thousand sixteen the five went on a bus trip to go conventions. RNC Indian say and at one point in the back of the bus Greg Gut failed and I were sitting there and he was making me laugh so hard because he was just making up nonsense country songs about the five about Fox News about everything and he just had me giggling so much and I said we should should go to Nashville and record a song about the five and record it with a real recording artists and then release it for charity so three years later it came true. We have a wonderful executive producer of the five called Megan Albano. She figured it out we teamed up John Rich from big and rich who is a wonderful person big fan of forty three's as well and we went to Nashville and in one take he's saying the song that we sang the backup part. It's called Oh shut up about politics and it's not about shutting any particular person up. It was just about how politics has entered into everything sports music music theater technology. Everything's just too much and so we have a song called shut up about politics. We released it and within two hours it was number one on the country charts and then and that whole weekend it was number one in the world bigger than Lady Gaga Justin Bieber it was astounding. It's amazing it was amazing and all the proceeds go to folds of honor so we're pretty proud of it. Ninety nine cents you can download it on full. Honor does great work. We've done incredible work. We're familiar with there were pretty well and they're just such great such a great organization. That was pretty fun fun. I have a question for you off of that. Though I mean you're right politics is in absolutely everything you cannot get away from it and we talk about that a lot too. I mean even when you're going through Instagram instagram stories. It's just permeates every bit of it. It's in your life obviously multiple times a day. How do you get away from politics and focus on the thing? I feel a little a lot better than I did even from a few years ago because I've really embodied this idea that politics is what I do. It is not who I am and I have carved off my weekends and my evenings when I'm not working but but I don't go to dinner to talk about politics with people unless I agree with them now. That's GonNa sound like Oh that's not very fair and balanced view but I argue all day long and so in my personal life I pretty much. Don't I have a rule that I wrote about in the in the Jasper book which is no politics at the dog park. You're that's a safe place for me and if and even people that WanNa talk to me about politics at the Dog Park Mike Sorry I don't talk politics at the dog park. I have a policy and then laugh about it and they move on and I also carry a lot less about social media than I did. In Two thousand sixteen. I was really attacked by the Russians. Even though I didn't know as Russians at the time I remember actually coming here to the Bush Center right before the two thousand sixteen election. I can't remember what I was doing and AH chance to see President Bush and he's how you doing and I told him I had the worst professional summer of my life you know being attack and I was really kind of in the fetal position under my desk and even like my husband would say how can I help you. There's there's nothing you can do and it gave me a big appreciation for what parents are going through when their children are consumed assumed with their phone because you don't know what's being said and it's so demoralizing I was a grown woman. I've been the White House press secretary. How could this affect me so much and and I remember President Bush saying? Why didn't you call me like a really imagine if I had called President Bush and said Sir people are being really mean to me on twitter he would have said get off twitter on it solved this one's easy and actually it is easy so once you step away from from it or somebody gave me a tip to only have mentioned from people that you follow and Eric Schmidt of Google actually pulled me aside at one point in two thousand seventeen as I was explaining what it was like to be one of the people that was targeted by these Russian boots but I didn't know they were rushing at the time I just said it's overwhelming and he pulled me aside Dana? These are not real people and you explain to me how the whole system worked in Saint Petersburg and I don't know that just gave me an ability to say it doesn't matter. It just doesn't matter no so I it's weird to say that as much as politics permeating everything for me. It's probably less a part of my life than in the previous elections that I've covered for Fox. Was it similar to how you regrouped. After you left the White House taking a breath stepping away from it no not really I mean I remember the day that we'd left Andrews Air Force Base and Peter and I left to go on the trip to Africa. I leaned my head back against is the seat and I said nothing I do for the rest of my life will ever be that important or that hard and it's really true when I make a comment now. I'm not gotTA START A war. I also have a great appreciation for what public servants go through and I want to support deport them. No matter what party they're from if you're willing to put your self out there and run for office and try to do the right thing I try to be supportive. Okay talk to us about mercyships touch. You talked about a little bit when you left the West so interesting about mercy ships. There's actually a Bush connection there too okay so obviously President Bush and Mrs Bush were amazing leaders. When it came to Africa I I got to go to Africa with them? In February of two thousand eight and in typical forty-three fashion we did five countries in seven days. I got my first migraine. I couldn't even go to the Kigali event because I had to stay on the plane and two liters of fluid into my arm and so I didn't get to go to the and and I've been sad about not making it to Rwanda ever since given the statistics about pep far so many times at the podium that I thought I understood Africa and then I was just totally blown away when I went there and I came back and I said Peter we need to go for six months after the White House and he said how about six weeks so we did six weeks compromise and yeah so we did a pet farsight that's on in Fishhook South Africa and Peter and I just had this confusing time and that did help us reset our priorities and our hearts and to reconnect as a couple as well because we're so blessed here in America and you can get caught up in what about me. What am I gonNa do to the White House and just being able to have a bigger world view? After I left was great great fast forward mercy ships asked me through my speakers bureau if I would come to Dallas and moderate a conversation between the president and Mrs Bush in front of their dinner group so I said well sure that sounds great so peter and I were coming down here now prior to that I had join the one campaigns women advisory board and I had gone to several countries with them. I had also been on the Broadcasting Board of Governors under President Obama and I'd gone to Africa on behalf of of that organization as well trying to increase the amount of content of for women in particular and Africa because we found that men will definitely listen to the radio for news in sports but women will listen if it's about health and their kids so anyway it's just little bit of an effort to do that so at the dinner right before the Q. One eight with the president and Mrs Bush. I'm sitting there and somebody says well. Why did you get interested in Africa so I'm telling him than soul story that I'm telling you and then I I said just a few months ago I got to go to Sierra Leone and I went to this place called the Aberdeen Clinic and it was started by Scottish heiress us and it's so amazing they were doing fistula surgeries there and the day I was there? They were teaching the women there how to count to ten and the lady next to me said Oh she's not a Scottish heiress. Her name is Ann Gloag and she's sitting right behind you. This is a self made businesswoman in Scotland who was a burn unit nurse for twenty years but then she and her brothers started a bussing service in the UK when Margaret Thatcher deregulated the transportation sector and they became very successful and as the company expanded she took Africa and and when she got there she said this will never do so she started doing all of this philanthropy there and that's how I ended up talking to her and I said to Peter we have to go see mercy mercy ships for ourselves so that's how we got involved and it's a surgical hospital ship they do the West Coast of Africa that night they were kicking off a capital campaign for a brand new ship because they I usually retrofit and old ship and

"You're going to check it out. Right. Let's get back to our conversation. This is the Chad preview show. Thanks for joining us musical they long and the thing that I've admired from afar in as of gotten to know, you better it in. In things the big thing that I've always appreciated about John rich is the business mind and the business acumen that you have because it's one thing to go out there and be a country music singer it into write songs and things like that. But what you've Bill is is something pretty awesome in many ways because for the longest time you turn around. And there was John rich you were involved with this or that or, you know, using your voice to speak out. There was a charity deal Dacian deal or a business thing or another. So now, you have really launched in a big way this redneck Riviera brand which I've been strongly attracted to for numerous reasons. One you, and I have a massive thing in common in in this little liquid call whiskey. I've always told you that I drink whiskey like most people, drink, beer wine, or in some cases water, you know, drink thirsty at times. I love it. But with the bars in in the vineyard the live in us that youth created under this brand how? Did that evolve? How did all of that come into being in free wishing from from being in your mind to be something real the first things ever did in that? I would say would be business we're in. But it wasn't with me. So like I was in. I'm an artist and big and rich and all this stuff. But like, for instance, SE this bartender get up one night with a fan and sing. And I went my God. That might be the greatest thing I've ever heard who is this person. And so I go up and introduce myself, and she said my name's Gretchen Wilson, and I moved here from seven Pocahontas, Illinois, and I'm living in the basement and one of the bartenders renting a basement out from them, and I ain't got anything going on. And I was like, okay. Well, I wonder if I can figure out how to help this girl become a superstar. And so what little pull that? I had in Nashville because you know, this is before big and rich was even a big deal or anything like what little pull out do have. I bet I could at least get her in the studio write some songs whether seeing if we can develop something here because this girl is just so incredible. And going through process after process like that with various artists cowboy Troy James auto Gretchen Wilson, I got the producer record on jewel. I mean, I got to work with all these interesting people, and then go in on the business side, walk in them into record labels and learning from standing on the outside looking in how these labels operate how they need to make that money to make deals make sense and on and on and on. So I got pretty good at doing that. And from there we were doing a concert man about ten years ago in Gulf shores, Alabama, and I was hanging around down there and about every other person walking by had on either tank top or a t shirt or something that said redneck Riviera this redneck revere that I remember this this little kid what by and he was wearing tank top and said, my parents went to the redneck Riviera and all I got was this tank top..

"She'd say, hey, why don't you take this vendors Stratocaster and play Fender guitars? And so that was her whole job. And she knew Kenny, and she knew me and had told each one of us you need you need to meet John rich, you need to make kidding. I remember she said you gotta come see him play show us. Ed how like if you big and tall big and fat. She goes trust me when you see him you'll understand because KENNY'S got this enormous charisma, you know, when he comes into a room and sure enough I went out and so play a set. Now, kind kinda shaking my head going. I'm not exactly sure what this is. But this guy guy's extremely creative. He's interesting guy. Yeah. He'll out song with him. So when he got through it to set we said, let's write a song that was in October of ninety nine. And so we're now coming up on twenty years a next year. We'll be since we wrote our first song, and it has been quite a quite a deal, man. The kind of music that he and I make is really unlike anything still to this day. I think does we kind of do it our own way. Yeah. I agree with you. I've been a big fan for a long time. And when you guys came out with, you know, horse of a different color at in the new guys. I remember the first time I ever saw the video for save a horse. And I was like these guys are rocking as this is different. This one of these things that you can't look away from and that's always kind of been my philosophy toward. Entertainment is is it's got to be something that you just can't take your eyes off of it. And that's the what you guys have consistently done in. I mean, I along time ago and thanks to you guys. I became a fan of of that heavy percussion drums with banjo going at the same time. I was like I love that. That is just such a good rock. Yes down, you know. Well, that comes that comes from me being a big fan of back in black and Ricky Skaggs, I'm saying. Now that would be an MTV crossroads right or Z in cross. Version of d. Versions of of highway forty blues. Let's let's make it up. All right. Let me get Jay Becky in here. You know? What don't you have peace of mind knowing that we have blinked cameras? Yes. All over the house. Yes. I love them. Exactly. You feel good it even even when we're gone away from home. Or if you're here by yourself, and which is rare you got all your people..

"I do not believe anything short of. Military intervention. Would have made the Cherokee leave. If she frost had said. No, there's no hope left. We have to leave. They would have found a different leader. Who would continue that fight? That's how deeply committed the Cherokee people were to their homeland. For your last Buddha. Not rich, and John rich and the Reverend Samuel Worcester was time to vote with their feet like many of their friends who early on recognized the inevitable in eighteen thirty seven then let by water with a new home in the west. Squads of troops were sent to search out with rifle and bayonet every small cabinet hidden away in the codes, or by the sides of mountain streams to seize and bring in as prisoners all the occupants, however, or wherever they might be found systematic hunts were made for Indian graves to rob them of the silver pendants and other valuables deposited with the dead. When the troops arrived. Most tricky, simply waited quiet. Allow the trespassing soldiers go rest them Muslim off to suck aids. If you had time to pack their goods more sell their livestock..
