"Nothing. I love more than being from boston. What we're talking about is is sort of a an edge to it but it's beautiful majority of people. Are there the best. I go back. It's incredible i. I i love it and i but i love that. There's an edge there. And i love that. It's it's complicated with them and in a way it feels more honest. It feels like they're keeping it on us like you go back and you're not to get away with not gonna get away with any shit there is i think To there to that town's credit but yeah i. I was very interesting because i when covid. I broke out Posters billboards were just going up for a quiet place. Part to it was when it was just starting that irie beginning the whole thing when wait a minute we do. We wear a mask. What is this is to last two weeks. Three weeks and one of the billboards has just stayed up for the entire. Fifteen movie. didn't come out with right because you were ready to go. And i can imagine you put your heart and soul into this thing and it's ready to go and suddenly it stops and it's I saw this billboard every day. And i think it's still there. It's on the way to the theater where we do our show now Totally has argo theater. And i would see it every day and i thought it must have been difficult for you on the creative side to have made this thing in what you want. Is i think this is really good. And i'm ready for people not it and then everything is okay. We don't know when this is going to come out but it's one of those amazing things where this was. This was bigger than all of us would happen. You know what i mean. So i think that for me. A lot of the emotion got taken out by how blacker white a decision this was. There was just the right thing to do right. And i think that helped. I think where it really started to hit me was five or six months later when i tried to do something creative. And there was something that i was holding inside that hadn't been led out and so therefore my creative process was very difficult. It was hard to. It's almost like you realize in this business. You try to work really hard on sunday and it comes out you use that energy to write something else and come out with something else so if i was bouncing on trampolines was one was missing. The i couldn't get to that next spot without it and it is the reason why i fought so hard to be one of the first. I guess we're the first theatrical only movie this year because whether or not it was just in my head. I wanted to be an emotional book. And for people that this movie represented the end of or the beginning of coveted in the end of sort of normalcy. As we knew it. So let's have a be the representation of normalcy coming back. Yeah what's amazing too. Because and i don't think i'm giving anything away here but the the way it begins its It's taking you into a world as it's changing radically. And i thought yes right. This is actually a perfect metaphor perfect Story about life. Freezing laugh suddenly stopping and then becoming something completely different and everything turned upside down. That's the core at the story of of what's happening. There's the all the obviously there's also a lot of emotional resonance in the characters. But this is i couldn't help but notice and i think a lot of people would notice the similarities in sort of just what we've been through. Yeah absolutely my favorite compliments in these screenings that we've been doing around. The country is people felt so much more emotionally charged about seeing people. Step back into the normal so seeing this girl walk down a train track taking every single step. Knowing the circumstances as she took steps were changing she was going to be the one to change things that it had an emotional resonance and i think that for me. That's what i hope that there are correlations. Clearly there weird correlations that we never intended but if there are correlations the correlation. I hope everybody takes his that of hope. That idea of courage and bravery and community in how the only way to get through the darkest times to do it together. Well what i want to stress. Turn he's listening is it is such. I was so engaged as an audience member. I mean it is a great story and these themes are all there. Everything you're saying is there but if you have so thoroughly in the story the whole time off and then you managed to get these two threads of the story going which run along the same time he's other and each one is terrifying and they're both going at the same time and i thought that was just i mean. I thought that was masterfully dawn. Thank you may not that. I'm not a movie critic. I just as an audience member and someone who will you are now and i'll take no action. You're the best movie critic. Thank you so much. I'm the greatest movie critic of all time but Yeah i. I'm just absolutely delighted for you and i think and i i also have to say i can't it's i. I can fathom a lot of things. But i can't. My whole life has been dedicated to create something and then see. It realized later that day. Or maybe maybe a couple of weeks later. You're maybe a month later. That's about as far as i can think right. You were there with us in that process in that world and then you moved onto something like the office which we is is every week which still feels like a very different situation. Then what you know anything. I've ever worked on And the work that you and greg did..

"That's it that's my career. It's over. Goes i think they love it and i was like they clearly. Don't love it. They're not making any noise. And then you shouldn't go to your own screening slutty because people can hear you were. Is john krasinski. Sin this movie. I can't believe i'm jim from the office. John and then at the end of the movie she talks a gun and everyone jumped out of their seats and started shaking the seats. Which i had never seen before i have to talk somebody about blacking out all the time but i definitely sort of everything became distorted. I have no recollection. What happened at that moment and it was just a a wild thing so my point was i was never going to do a sequel. The studio at aston said. Would you do a sequel. I said no way because that was the most personal movie to me that to me was love letter to my kids that was about. And what would you really do for your kids and all that and so it really was the idea of making millie. The lead character in the movie. That became the thing that i thought well. If we can do that that would be pretty exceptional making the kids. The leader of the movie sort of not only is it great because they can pull it off but they represent all the themes and metaphors of the first one like family like carrying the mantle of the people in the generation before you better the maker and hope and all these amazing things you know. It's funny because you brought up or people are asking you where you're gonna make sequel and me. I think you can relate to this. There is kind of catholic boston thing. Absolute love to blank. Who am i to. And it's the irish call at tall poppies. It's exactly right if you get a little too tall. It's in it's called different things in different colors big for your britches get too big for your britches and i know that because you come from the neighboring town. We've talked about this before you know privately. But i'm from brooklyn are rival is newton. That's right and i used to run track against newton north as to run tracks and enough but sure nath and i was terrible so they loved me north but and i do have a very strong memory of running distance. They're running the two mile. Indoor at this new track they built and then five years later they said we have to track down. Because it's made of horrible.

"Right away and what happens is history gets rewritten. Yes oh it's right. A world without the office now seems impossible. But it almost didn't happen. It could have easily gone away. All one executive had to do was remember to cancel. It probably gone away but that didn't happen so it becomes part of the culture and it's really a so important to people and what i think is in. You can talk to this. Your very and you in the cast. You're very funny in the show by. You're playing the reality of whatever's happening. I also think there's an emotional undercurrent to it all. I think that that feels very real. Because you don't always like your co worker. You are sort of intimidated by your boss. You do have feelings for people. And i think that undercurrent is something that the show scratches where people can identify themselves. Whatever walk of life you are you can identify yourself in that and you can identify your co workers and your friends and everything so it feels like you're part of the show at least that's how i see it and the biggest compliment for us again. I don't usually speak for the whole cast. But i think i can say this is especially during the past year. The greatest thing about this show is when people say hey that really got me through the hardest time in my life not a hard time. The hardest time in my life. i remember. I had flown all night once on red eye and this girl came up to me. She was very very sweet and she just handed me. This note barely said anything she said. Hi don't wanna bother you. But i just want to give you a note and i thought it was nice and i got in my car opened the note and it said i just wanted to let you know. My dad passed last week. And i had to tell you that because of you the last memory i have is of him laughing because the last week of his life we just sat and watched the office he was very sick and i just that blew my mind. Jokes may have to think about it now. But the the fact that you're not it goes beyond entertainment your somebody's friend. You're somebody's comfort blanket. That's what i think is the beauty of the show and the most important thing to me and why why. It's such an honor to be part of it. I mean you can't ask. They're nice things that come with show business. Obviously but when you have that experience of someone saying to you know you're i was very depressed and then i saw you and it made me happy and it brought me some joy that thing that you made in you made it years ago and you have so much has happened for you since then but that's a gift it's going to keep giving for you you know that's gonna what's nice is that i think twenty years from now when people have episodes of the office implanted at birth into their brain. It'll be mandatory. The government will make that happen. But that's the thing again you you owe it to greg. Because he also recalibrated level of storytelling. I mean for me. The truth is i would never have done a quiet place. If it wasn't for advice that gave me years ago where he said exactly what you just said i. I was very nervous. And he said you look weird is is something going on. I said this is just my favorite joke in the script. I wanna make sure. I deliver funny and he went will will will you. Don't deliver anything. funny you deliver it truthfully. And it's up to them out there in tv land if they think it's funny or not and if they think that a moment with you in jena is emotional or not. Don't play emotion. Don't play funny. And so when i sat down to rewrite the script of quiet place i i said. I don't know how to us a scary movie. I don't know how to do. Scares and i just thought right what you know right characters that people fall in love with and whatever happens to them will be up to you and so as soon as i started writing this family and made it a family drama. All the scares just laid themselves down. It wasn't about trying to scare people organic. Yeah any fall in love with these characters and you'll be terrified to say anything.

"This over. What are you listening to. Third eye blind. Sorry go but i remember it was. Pt that used to pull the curtain. Right yep paul. So he used to pull the curtain. And i remember he goes. We're all just in the drums are going and we're all just so proud of you. Go out there and get him and he pulled the curtain. And i lost all consciousness and i walked. I guess i dot oled up to you and you could see that my eyes had rolled back into my brain and you gave me the most firm loving handshake and it's going to be great. Just sit down. it's gonna be great remembered. That's what brought me back. Yeah and you were fantastic. And then i think we're all going to be watching the office fifty years from now it's not going to lose its luster because there's nothing about it. That feels fake or okay. That was great in its moment. But you had to be there. If if if anything. It's just continued to grow absolutely and i think a lot of that has to do with how absolutely authentic greg made it. I know that you in greg. Go way back but greg who our show daniels. Yeah were you guys roommates. Just friends no. Greg daniels and i knew each other in college. We got to know each other actually senior year kind of late in college and then we decided we both wanted to try our hand in comedy and we were at the crimson. Right no name. Oh good lord. No no no the criticism. That reason why. I brought up the crimson is because you told that prank story embassy. Nbc event. yes and i thought you were the sex pistols. Prog thing i've ever heard were greg. Daniels was part of that. Prank crimson. Is the the newspaper at harvard. And it's a very serious place and everyone there. It goes on to win pulitzers instantly. And so it's an the lampoon. Which is the comedy magazine is the opposite so we decided to break in and greg was remembered rejoin camouflage pants and we broke in and and we stole that day's edition before it gone out and I ended up kind of getting arrested. But you left everything but the telephone everything. But i kept picking up the phone and going the phone would ring occasionally and like an idiot. I had to do a bit to pick it up and go. Hello hello front desk. No clark kent's not here. Perry white and hang up and so they immediately knew something was wrong but they also gave you a pulitzer which was so weird. Yeah i didn't know you could be a poster for being an ass. But anyway we at the greg i'm anthony poon and then we decide. Neither one of us wanted to go out to la alone so we came out to los angeles but we started out together. We had one really crappy car that we bought at the airport. We bought a car. Which don't do that i bought. We bought one and we got tricked. We bought this at an isuzu opel. We shared it and we shared an apartment and we shared we a desk that we sat on either side of at work and Yeah it was like we were shackled together but then he goes on but drew the cup right. didn't he make utah made up. That's been on my desk for twenty eight years. We should have greg on this. Show what am i doing here. I think you should move along. Could you get me. Could you give me a cup of coffee please. But no my point was to say that. I think that it was so thick and to be honest like you said ahead of its time in a way to authentic certainly for the network and i've told the story but it's it was going to be canceled every single friday. We had a very nice man who came down and he said it's oh i love it We are not going to keep making this. It's bummer and then you basically get a call. I guess like over the weekend or something and says all right come back monday. We'll do one more. And i asked this guy for a dvd of the episodes. So i could prove to my mom that i was doing that. What i was doing was real so that she didn't think i was just on a beach in california pretending to be an actor and i still have that dvd. But i also remember you know a lot of people say we owe everything to the fans but we genuinely oh the entire show to the fans because at the exact same time i tunes had come out and ipods had come out and i remember walking through new york. I went back to waiting tables after the pilot of the office. That's how a little competition and a guy held up his ipod and he said look man. You're on my ipod i said. Hey what's an ipod and be. Why am i two inches tall on the small attack. And that's it. As soon as people bought a show that they could see for free. On thursdays or tuesday's or whenever it was at the time they had to keep the show on so we had our families. Actually save our show. You know We went through the exact same thing as you probably know late night before you got there but in the early years supposed to get cancelled pretty much every week and that's what i would read in the paper and that's what people told me on the street but what what. I always knew that young people were saying. Oh my god that thing you did last night. And that's really weird yes executives are telling me this is no good and then i'm getting like a high five. Yeah people coming up to you and go. I'll cut you and you're like zapped that pimpa is doing according from the show and but this is a good lesson for people listening you know. I'm sitting here. i'm telling you to john krasinski. And he's telling you and he's right. Because i know this from greg. The office was a very tenuous proposition for the first year. At seinfeld was a very tenuous proposition for the first year or two..

"Of this show code and did you hear that we didn't start recording it so I'm recording on my end. We're having those tapes destroyed. That just made my whole day now. This is truly. I've told you this in emails. But i'll just get it out of the way you are without a doubt and i've said this to you one of the biggest. Inspirations on my entire career because when i was in college i never did everything anything every night and i watched your show at thirty rock every single night. Then i watched. How comedy could be both ridiculously silly. And hyper intelligent at the same time and it was a brain explosion for me so i immediately applied to your show. That is a really Sweet thing for you to say. I really appreciate that and i. It's funny is that you apply to be an intern on our show. So you were an intern and this is way back in two thousand. You're an intern. And recently someone dug up like the polaroid all the interns have polarized up on their frigerator. So we know their names and everything and there was a thing that just said john. It's his polaroid of you looking about fifteen. Yeah or fifty depending on the angle that you look. There's an angle where you're a very old woman. It's a weird angle. You don't see it off. But that was it. Sports illustrated where michael jordan. If you moved it his head would move for you. It was one of those sport flick thing. I've noticed that john krasinski depending on the angle can be. He can be an old greek fishermen. There's so many things he can be if you just shoot him correctly but we had this picture of you. We found it recently. You were a young eager fellow Excellent intern you are. i think. A monologue script intern. I was so. I got the internship and then they i think it was two two days later. They said so. We're doing this thing where you have to apply to script intern. And i applied with an amazing woman named lauren pomerantz. Who's gone on to do many things and his business as well and that entailed we were the only interns. I think who got to go on the floor because we had to hand out scripts and we had to be there for script changes. So i got to see all the rehearsals all the crying. All the ladder. No there is i remember. I have a very clear memory of you being backstage. And i got to know you a little bit because you're always back stage. We read the jokes. And i always try to keep it very loose so i'm running literally the band's playing max weinberg seventh playing. I'm back behind the curtain and danta pan and you're standing there and you're i'm reading through the jokes and you're sort of observing me. Read through the jokes. And then i read one joke and i wasn't sure about it and i said we joke can you like I don't know. I think it's pretty good and i just because you're a big guy and i know you're irish catholic and you're from newton and i'm from brooklyn and his rival towns. I thought i have a sense of who i can do this with and who i can't you said i think it's okay and i grabbed you and pushed you up against the wall. What the fuck to you know. And then let go just as they said. Conan o'brien walked out with a big smile on my face. And then you become this massive star and now filmmaker director and retroactively. I'm suing you retroactively. I really fucked with iran. I actually remember that there was more dialogue to it. I i remember at least my therapist. And i've gone over at several times and i said i think it's really funny and i used to laugh at everything and i think you thought i was kidding or just trying to stroke your ego and instead i was genuinely laughing and you push me up against the ball and you go is it. Is it funny. What is it that you could do. Just go home and smoke weed and listen. I'll never forget that. What are you what are you know you just go smoke weed and one and listen to pearl jam and then i remember walking out and i used to feel like things backstage. Have to be insane for me to accept the reality of what i do for a living but totally understand. Yes there've been so many times that people on the show have seen me you know we have to We have had writers matt. And there's and mike sweeney before him. I have physically fought them many times hallway Gotten them down on the ground and there's a rough housing thing that comes with our culture. I don't know what it is. But i always try and find people that are up for it and to this day even as an as an older gentleman. Yeah my son is like six two. He's fifteen years old and six to fight him regularly. I need to fight people. I remember i remember. Mike sweeney telling you that a joke wasn't going on the show and you said it's going on. I can pull it off and he goes. We don't have time for it. It's not going on. And then he slowly walked down the hall and you started stocking him like.

Amy Schumer Joked That John Krasinski and Emily Blunt's Marriage Is ‘Pretend’
"Let's start with john brzezinski and emily blunt now. They crushed it at the box office this weekend. And they also crush clapback after. Amy schumer joked about their relationship. Amy said they have a pretend marriage for publicity jan wasn't having it and replied they you amy from blowing up our whole marriage not clearly. Their relationship is real. I hope but do you think. A lot of hollywood marriages are for publicity. I think hollywood marriages regular everyday marriage is when you get to a certain point in life get married for different reasons right. Sometimes you get married for the when you're younger as you get older you get married as you grow and evolve. Some marriages are publicity stunts. But for these two what. Eleven years two kids later. I think they're real. I think they're the real deal.
John Krasinski Responds to Amy Schumer's Joke About His Marriage
"Even better than the first one, which blew me away. And then she said, amazing to be in the movie theater. And then she wrote, I've said it for a long time. I think Emily and John have a pretend marriage for publicity. But I still think you should see this on a rainy weekend. And as you know, John Krawczynski and Emily Blunt made a quiet place to she started and he's in in a little, but he directed sure, And this is what I really wanted to like That hyper focused on is the way John Prison Ski responded because he responded to this. Did he get was he? Was he all sensitive about it? Did you get in the dirt? Did he get down there to eat? Punch for punch Na Chris's kids sweating it, he wrote. Thank you, Amy. We're blowing up our whole marriage Got that's good. That's how you do it right now. You do it. Yeah, It's like you. Why would you have this affected Because some people would I mean Martha Stewart is infamous

"The boss found out that it was based on the english one and then realize that the boss is the boob. I don't want this to ever air and don't make me look bad. And it was not great. And then i came back just thinking that i had immersed myself in this thing and really done research man and then greg goes i have that footage and i said sure and then he said i might use it for the opening of the show and i went what and he was like so i have to buy it from you. Can i buy your footage. And i was like i dunno like you can just have it again. Super young i was like no you can just have it and so i think he news i know we gotta buy it and i think he bought it for. I think like a thousand dollars are you so you just did a buyout straight by by out again. It was like thousand dollars so dumb so been making that was not been the greatest investment. I truly i know that is insane. You know about the sign right. Has anyone ever told you. This noah the sign that you got out of the sunroof and filmed on the highway anymore. It's in the mall because too many people were stopping along the highway. No take pictures. It is now that sign is now not.
Are Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox engaged?
"We're going to start out with snl. Which as i'm sure you guys know. John krasinski hosted. I'm sure you saw at the end of his opening monologue at him and pete davidson kissed and it was great. He was excellent. Big john krasinski fan by for me. At least probably the most noteworthy element of snl was machine gun. Kelly was performing. And i'm sure by now you've all seen the viral video of him carrying megan fox into the thirty rock building. Julie i live for that shit. There is no amount of machine gun. Kelly's back fox content. That will ever be too much for me. I will never ever ever get sick of it. I know i think it's because like i bet you. Some people watch that and as with. They weren't wearing masks. Which i know is frequently discussed but some people watch that and felt like all my god. They're so attention seeking. And i get that clearly but also that's what i sometimes want for my celebrities making public appearances especially those to rate and especially right now like right now. Life is so monotonous. That if i'm gonna watch machine gun. Kelly carry meghan vox. When she's wearing this snakeskin alfred into the thirty rock building. I love that as a highlight in my day. I love when you get a little vocabulary. Heavy on this podcast. What i say monotonous embarrassing. Don't go a rosette on this other confidently don't exalt me no i just. I'm a fan of big vocabulary. Where can i spray. Oh thank you. Yeah just i just obsessed. I am too. And i can't believe that it's only a recent thing like it's one of those couples where i feel like i've spent my whole life obsessing over them will. It's interesting because there's a lot of rumors swirling about engagement. I know a lot of people think that will happen sooner rather than later. I don't know. I honestly don't really have a gut feeling on it. Because on one hand. I know they both said they think they're twin flames especially her. She's very into astrology and kind of spirituality. And she's sure he's her person. But i don't know maybe you'll wanna wait a little bit. More time after the divorces passed. I don't really know but either way into it

The guy thought he was a scam. Yes oh blocked him and said i'm sorry but you're kind of suspicious. Kristen sqi had. Dwayne the rock johnson. Go in under an name and buy it all so he probably not suspicious but anyway so krizan ski ends up getting this guy on zoom call and says by the way you blocked me. What were you doing. "It's not so yes. I auditioned or not. I was offered to come in audition for the role of Dwight and I was so excited. I admit I'm Alison Jones randomly out in La. On a general meeting. When I had zero dollars my name and she said something's coming on our first meeting are only meeting. She said something called the office. You'd be great board as a great son. I got back to New York. And they said There's this show called the office and I was like. Oh my God. Alex Jones Greatest. Human told me about this in the they said you're going for the role of Dwight had been a huge fan of the British show and I was like I don't know man that's that's not. I don't know if I'm right for that role and so I've weirdly. Eek have no idea what I was thinking. I said them you know what I read the pilot and I said you know what I'm GonNa put my best foot or let me know when they're casting gyms and I remember the response from the NBC Casting Director. My manager at the time was note. Honestly who does he think he is like having up? In addition an opportunity edition and Lo and behold. I thought it was over. I think it was like five six weeks later. That they called like are looking gyms now and they'll have you back my God. That's so crazy. And then when we finally did our screen test you you're living in New York and you had to fly to La for that screen test with all these New Yorkers that were conditioning which was so much fun. I remember I took the plane with Jim. Gaffe again hours. Additionally for a role was like laughing I mean just was surrounded by heroes on the plane and then got to got to the callback or the test or whatever they called it. And 'cause I'm so experienced now I have no idea but I remember getting this big room and it was the waiting room of where we actually shot are pound. Three guys covered that but like where we shot. Our pilots is what they measured down to the quarter inch or centimetre to make our set this building that exists that we took an existing building and I remember sitting basically where Lake Ryan's death note like we're Mindy Desk. Was Toby Mendis desk weather sitting against that wall and I saw all these other people coming in. I've been there for like hour two hours and all the other people were the people they I realized that separated us so they were asking the New York people to leave after they were done than I was the last New York person and I saw all these. La People in an. I started to get soup or self conscious I am. I am not a confident person. I was like Oh my God. This is so embarrassing on the only New Yorker here. 'cause everybody was like. Hey Johnny Tim like greeting each other and I was sitting on a floor so I went onto the set. 'cause all the producers were hiding in the background and I said I'm so sorry I think someone forgot to tell me to go home from behind a lake fake wall. I remember hearing a lot of chair moving and stuff and like Dang yes. Walk New was Greg trying to get out of his chair and find the entrance to get back on. Set News like Heard Teri Weinberg. No no no. No don't don't go and then I went back out to the waiting room super freaked out and I saw gentle walk in the door and she was like a soon as I saw you walk engine. I know I told the story of billion times so people like we get we've seen behind the scene I I genuinely have a metaphysical event where I was like. Oh that's who's in the show that person will be in the show and so they held me back you win with a bunch of people. I remember thinking if I don't go in with her screwed and that's when I went on the that you should let me go and they said Neuro. There's one more person we want you dish might than it was you and I thought Oh my God you're saying there's a chance because if I'm in with you I knew I had a shot. I'll my God John. I can go back to that moment that I saw you at the audition and I had that exact same reaction I it was. I've tried to describe it to people like what it was like to audition with you and the best like the best explanation. I could come up with was like what if you walked into a room. A music started playing. A you in another person. Just started dancing in unison. Even though you'd never met that's what it was like with you. That's really way more beautiful than what I would say. Which is like I felt like. I could see the future like it actually gave me because I was like. She's so on the show I. It's so weird that I'm like watching a getting in I remember. I'm sure you remember too. But when after auditioning I loved auditioning with you we were walking through the kitchen and I said that was the way out and I said I've just got to let you know. I think that you're going to get this party. Your perfect for this and use. You seem to remember. You said the same thing to me. I don't I blacked out. I was dying. I was so excited I that you said that because I felt like I had wanted to say that to you but I didn't have the courage because I didn't know you were like essentially a stranger to me. The only time we had really spoken or interacted was during our audition so we were kind of silently walking back to the kitchen and I was thinking in my head shot. Tell Him I think he's the best. Jim Is that appropriate. Should I say you're the Best Jim you're going to be Jim or is that? Is that bad form? I don't know what's the etiquette and so when you said I think you're going to get the role Pam. My memory is that I was like. Oh my God I think you're gonNA be Jim. You're the best Jimmy. I hear my favorite him like blurred at some time. Don't but I do remember this though that you know. I always say this in people are like yeah. Whatever but it's true. I have a lottery ticket life ever since I was given the news that I was on that show. Everything changed in my life for everything away not to get into a heavy burden but not only every opportunity that I've ever had is from the show. I met my wife because she knew who I was in a restaurant per show. We never would have been in the same city restaurant or anything. It was just so crazy. How deep as it goes but I remember at the epicenter of it all. When I was told that I had the part. I actually jumped.

"Oh Yeah what was it jokers and Toko? There's a texted Brian because we got a lot of questions about. Is He really drumming? Is He really singing? Yeah and I also had to get to the bottom of this jokers stoker's Business Bryant told me that he is actually playing and singing. A Steve Miller song in the video and I mean he says he's playing but he's really kind of faking it because he didn't really learn to draw until later when his band had to play was it phyllis his wedding. Yeah he had to be on stage right. Yeah so he's he's kind of faking his way through the song so after they shot this whole scene of him and his band they could not get permission from Steve Miller to use the song. Oh so in post they turn it into a police tribute band. And that's when they changed the name to Scranton City and Bryan had to dub his voice. Singing don't stand so close to me. And that's what they ended up playing so if you watch that video the lyrics do not match his mouth. I didn't notice it until after Brian told me all this stuff though. Oh that's good and I. I caught a couple of other little tidbits based on this knowledge. Notice that it nine minutes forty three seconds. There's a close up of John's hand putting the tape into the tape player in it says Scranton City. I remember shooting that later. I remember having to do a pickup of John's hand putting in Scranton a city okay and then later in the warehouse you know Roy is GonNa come up to Kevin. He's GonNa say hey. I heard about your band Scranton City right. This has twenty two minutes and five seconds. Yeah the band name is said off camera. It's noise voice but on camera is Kevin and they had to dub that to those good behind the scenes tidbits for Scranton City Lady. I know thank you. Brian Baumgartner okay. So we're jumping around a bit but back at eight minutes sixteen seconds. We Have Daryl and Michael's office. He's like look. I'm not having fire eaters and a paper warehouse. So why would fire eaters at a casino night anyway? Let me tell you. He would have a full circus in there if he could heal wants it bigger louder crazier and then Dwight enters for quote protection and his very funny exchange where we learn that. Darrell has taught phrases to Michael to help him with his interracial conversations. We learned about deconfliction. Thank and flicker this handshake. And and Darryl has a great talking head and Jenna. I'm pretty sure that this is Craig Robinson's very I talking head. I think in this episode. I think it is while Angela. I looked up Dinkins conflict on urban dictionary. You did the office. Yes it says made popular in a recent episode of the Office Dinkum Flicker roughly translates to. That's life for sale of the. I sort of remember that as talking about that. Ding conflict in that. Steve had just made it up. I remember now but I think that is just out of Corrales mind also fleece it out. That was another one that also in the urban dictionary. I kind of love to made up. Phrases are now in the urban dictionary as sort of fictional phrases way to go steve. Carell way to go. Steve Carell will. There is some delicious Pam. Saf coming uh-huh yes? Okay all right. I love this bit so much. I this is. One of the things are show did that. I love where we find out information that that something a character has been doing for years. But we didn't know it. And this is one of those moments so at ten minutes. Fifty eight seconds. Carol Stills Calls and Michael Carols on the phone and she does this thing where she doesn't let it through right away. She's still me still me. Yes because she has to. She says Michael is better at the second attempt. He's better At his second pass with people because the first time he says some ridiculous thing. Did you have it written down? What does he say to Carol the first time he says? Hey Carol. How's the real estate business? Is it real good still me? Second time he's totally normal Jays like. Hey Carol what's up? It's so good and then the same thing happens. This is a great scene. So michaels on the phone with Carol and she just needs one last signature for his mortgage insurance. That's why she's calling but he tells Carol You should come Casino Night. And she's like yeah to for the to get the signature or cheese. It's a little bit. It's a little confusing. What he's asking right and Nancy did such a great job with that of just be like wait to to your party. That's where I get the signature. Yes we should remind people guys. Carol stills played by Nancy Crawl Steve's wife in real life so then the other line Pam's putting through another call. It's jam an uh Oh. Jam is calling to tell Michael Michael. I would love to come to casino night. I feel like you can watch. Steve is Michael like literally break into a sweat. She's like holy crap win in a million years that I think I'd have to women on the line who'd both just said yes to me within seconds of each other to Queens on casino night to drop deuce of so. That's that's a big cliffhanger. We go into like what would normally be a commercial break right there. Should we go into a break? It is happening Jenna. You're wearing quite. The dress. Got Very dressed up for this week. A ton of mail about your dress Matt Made said. How many different dresses did you try on before you settled on the blue one that you were Danny Thurgood said my wife has a theory? That address Pam wears was an bridesmaid's dress pinhead in her closet. Deity on a note card pam in a bridesmaid dress question. Mark really looks like bridesmaid's dress it really does. Yes and then. Original Gus girl said whose decision was it for Pam to wear her watch with her gown a subtle. Great costuming and character choice. I love all of these questions. You guys are so observant all right let me start by saying Angela and Danny's wife You guys are correct within a bridesmaid's dress. Well it was. That was the inspiration when I met with. Carrie our wardrobe designer about this outfit that Pam would wear. We said you know what we want her to be dressed up in like a cocktail dress but on pam salary and just thinking about Pam's life. When would she ever by a cocktail dress? And she's certainly not going to buy one just for Casino night so we had a whole conversation where we were like you know what I think she wears an old bridesmaid's dress that's the fanciest thing she has in her closet and that's what she wears. I'll have you know that was the first dress I tried on. Oh we loved it. She had a whole rack of dresses. Tried them all on? That was our favorite and we sent that picture to Greg and he approved it immediately. It was like a winner from the start. Well that is so great and perfect and really answers my burning question because I was like that I feel like I wore a bridesmaid's dress that looks similar to that. Do a wedding in the ninety s by the way I love that. Watch question Angela. Because that was a discussion it was a discussion that Pam. Where's that watch most of the time? You can't see it but every day Phil Shea would come up to me. And he had a little tray and it had my watch and it had my pam wedding ring on it or my pam engagement ring on it and you pick it up you put it on first thing in the morning take it off at the end of the night and so. I've always been wearing that watch but you cannot normally see because it's underneath my sleeve right so we had a whole discussion does pam where her watch with her fancy dress or not and we thought listen.

"Okay we are back and let's get into this episode Geno. We've got a lot of ground to cover and at thirty six seconds. Dwight's in a Tuxedo game on it starting. Oh Yeah. He explains that It's a family heirloom. His grandfather was buried in it. Yes so that's special. And now you have Japan Prank Right Can we talk for one? Quick second about the fact that Pam Wakes God Jim with Roy. Right there. I have that down. I have the down. So yes Roy Pam. They're talking about casino night. This starts a whole conversation about who can win roulette. Raham says he can win by using mind control right. And why says O'Reilly? You can do my control. Why don't you try moving the COAT RACK? So he stares at it and it moves to everyone's surprise and then Pam winks at Jim and I wrote down discuss. How do we feel about this? It's a big wink. It's not like in an Roy is right there is he is does he not have. Is he not liking fiancee? What the Hell Are you winking at? Gm so the flirt starting early on this is early. I surely in the evening and Saudi evening. It's the day the starting I had a fan question from Batya. Who Said was the wink Pam gave Jim scripted? Yes it was I was GonNa say absolutely it was it was in the script I actually. I have the script from this episode Angela. I love that you have the script when it so you could go to it. Yeah I looked it up and it's right there. It says Pam winks. Jim Moon I had another fan question to from Brittany in the cold. Open Gen ed. Did you actually move the coat rack with an umbrella? No no no Jenna Wyatt in a time capsule called the DVD commentary. You talk about it. Oh I went into it. Yeah you went into it. You said that there was a crew member that had a string. It was like a clear like fishing line. We tried to have me do it. We tried to have me use the little even like tried to have me use that string thing and you just saw my arm. Moving too much was too far away. Lake the the umbrella with the hook on the end it couldn't it. I couldn't even reach the Kodak with this. GonNa say the Cobra is actually further away from you than people realize. Yeah it's it's actually quite far from you but the optical illusion makes it kind of seemed like I could have now i. I wasn't really doing it. And then PAM is very proud of herself because she has a silent talking head where she's showing off the umbrella and Jena. You're like as PAM. You are beaming. You were so proud of that moment. Well I meant you know. That wasn't set up that whole idea of mind control. I think the idea of that was that in the moment. Pam figured out how to have gyms back. Yeah and so I think she's like a stats where the wink comes from. That's why she's so proud exactly. She's super proud. They didn't know Dwight was gonNA pick the coat rack. Pam didn't know that Jim was going to set that up. No yeah she's like look what I. Oh my God I know I had another fan question Angela. This is from Chelsea Glover. Were there any deleted scenes? You're sad didn't make the final cut And actually there is an original cold open to this episode this little prank bit with the Kodak. This was actually originally meant to go after the credit sequence. And there's a whole cold open that was cut out but that you can see on the DVD extras. Did you watch at Angela? It's where Michael brings us into the conference room and makes us to a thunder Mifflin. Themed Mad Lib Mad libs. Yes it's great. Yeah so I thought that was Kinda cool but we didn't have time so we had to cut it out. Well listen I have a pretty big thing to point out. I'm pretty sure a lot of you guys were thinking about it. You're going to be talking about it. It's kind of a show stopper moment. What is it at three minutes one? Second there's a new plat at shouldn't a potted plant. There is a yellow flowering plant at reception. Those was a big deal guys. We got so much mail about this. We got no male about it. I always crack up whenever Pam. I feel like it's Pam brings in a plant and then it doesn't live very long. She tries that's my back story she tries to. It's like casino night. I'll I'll buy a plant at had the you know at the pharmacy. They have those plants by the checkout. All One She's doing her best. She's trained during her best. Some cheer to the reception desk. Well we have the scene where Michael is on the phone with Jan. She's trying to explain her concerns about what's going on with the branch but he just invites her to casino night and she's leaving all concerned for the branch and he wants to have this elaborate party. That costs so much money. Yeah and she's just like Michael. I'm not I'm not coming to that but maybe later L. Okay so next up at four minutes eleven seconds Michaels in the bullpen. He's sitting on Pam's desk He's explaining that we're having casino night that the beneficiary is boy scouts of America and the big winner of the night is going to get five hundred dollars to donate to the charity of their choice and a mini fridge. Compliments of Vance refrigeration. Yes to which is so proud proud. If you freeze at four minutes thirty four seconds villas face. She actually sticks her tongue out. She's so happy that Vance refrigeration donating the prize But before we get there I have to point out a great screen. Grab at four minutes. Fourteen seconds for those of you guys. That have been tuning in about what? I call the accountant stack. It's how they stack the accounting department to get them in the bullpen. Right because we're touched around the corner so you wouldn't see us so they would pull us out in this formation and it's the best green grab of it I have seen yet it is me at the copier with Oscar. Just like two feet behind me and then Brian Lamb three feet behind Oscar. It is like literally we look like a row of dominoes. And it's so we could be in the scene and react. That is perfect. I remember that they would do that. And sometimes it would make no sense that everyone else was able to sit at their desks. And listen to Michael but you guys would have to get up and walk over a little bit and stand the whole time. Yes I would be so envious of people that got to sit through really long scenes. 'cause we just be standing by the copier. Oh that's a good thing. When you re watching these episodes for people to just know how often the accountants are standing up. Yeah while everyone else is sitting so that we lead into the series of talking heads where everyone explains where they would donate the money. Should they be the big winner for the night and you know create has a talking head where he says he's going to give the money to a soup kitchen. Yeah that has a really delicious pea soup. On Thursdays CREA- create Kevin says to animals or people. Once again reminding us he is. Maybe not the smartest. You have a great talking heads so much SAS. I am not wanting to participate in this casino night. I say that we're just GONNA be giving money. That's from gambling. Why don't we just deal drugs or prostitutes ourselves? Yeah just give that money to charity. I know she is. I'm sure she's a not happy because she's not getting to plan this party. B. It's gambling and there's alcohol but gemma she shows up while she's GonNa show up later to this casino night. Yes she does so. This leads into one of my favorite scenes with some of my favorite lines of all time ever from the series ever. I know what you're saying. I know I know what you're talking about. Michael announces that at the end of the night. They're going to present a giant check to some boy scouts. He's so excited that's so him right. He's delighted that they're gonNA have a giant check and toby like. Oh actually Michael. That's not true. And then he lists the many reasons why it would be inappropriate to have kids. Come to a casino night. He's like gambling alcohol. It's dangerous warehouse. It's a school night hooters. Catering do I need to say more? Do I need to go on so this leads to the classic Michael Line? Why are you the way that you are? My Dad South. I wrote might have us. This next line is my most absolute favorite Angela I hate so much about the things that you choose to be. I could not get through that so that whole thing that Michael Says. Why are you the way that you are all of? That was scripted. It's in the script word for word so good that Michael announces that he is going to donate to Afghanistanis with AIDS. We got a fan question from Augusta. She said one of my absolute favorite scenes of all time is the Afghan Afghanistani's scene was any that improvise or was that all scripted. All right I went to the script and mostly all scripted with the exception of one line. Which is John? Krasinski improvised Afghanistani's. He was supposed to just say Afghanistan's way to go John. Whoa WHOA WE OUGHTA BUTTON ON IT. Way To put a button on it. John I need to talk to you about what happens at seven minutes. Thirty one seconds. Oh Yeah because Jim offers to watch crappy wedding bands with Pam and she so happy. Now my Gosh so happy. Well I shouldn't be doing this with Roy. I mean she says Roy pick the band but now he's too busy planning his Bachelor Party. I mean how many red flags to someone need planning her wedding with the guy she's in love with it's not her fiance. Yeah and then Jim has the line that breaks your heart at eight minutes. He says I talked to John. About a transfer because I have no future here. Yeah he has no future there. I know I know so now they go. You know we're jumping around a little. But let's let see Jim Pam moment through okay lady right there in the conference room. They're watching these banned videos. By the way we got a ton of questions about Brian's drumming Seattle wrote in Yes so they put in tape and they realize oh my gosh that's Kevin Yeah. Kevin is in a band guests. Who came up with the band name? Scranton who mendy really young committee. That was mindy. That's that was her idea that name. We'll check this out when I looked at this scene in the script. The name of the band is not scranton.

"Really quickly before we get started. You guys you know. We're recording from home right now. Yep and It's pouring rain so if you hear some rain that is why yeah. I had to move into my daughter's closet because the rain outside of my closet it kind of sounded like I was tinkling. Want to like inappropriate. I mean I know there's rain but then you know how sometimes the rain happens to come off of a gutter in a waterfall ask weighing. Apparently that's what happens outside of my closet so I'm in my my daughter's closet while I met my that's what she shed because all three kids are inside in loud. They're so loud and I'm just like what I can't tell him to like not make any noise ever okay so here. We go casino night. I'm so excited. Season Two episode twenty two written by Steve Carell. All right written by Steve Carell directed by Kim campus. This is already off to a good start. Jenna Oh yeah. This is a good team. All right hit me with a summary. Here we go. Michael Decides a casino night down in the warehouse to benefit charity. However Michael is going to have to juggle two dates bump bump balm also jam is dealing with his possible transfer to the Stanford branch young. That's GONNA lead him to ponder. His relationship with Pam is a good one. Shall we get into some SAM fast? Yeah that's that's back number one written by Steve Carell. So here's something that may be a lot of people don't know Steve also co wrote forty year old virgin. This is not the first thing that Steve has written so he got to write this episode. You know he also wrote another episode of the Office Season Four episode seven survivor man. So we'll get to that one but I found an old article from the La Times where Steve did an interview. All about how. He came to be the writer of this season. Two Finale Lady. That is some good detective work. I love it. I was very proud of myself. All right. So here's how it went down. So Steve had the idea as a general episode that Michael Should Throw a casino night down in the warehouse and he pitched that idea to. Greg and Greg said Oh that would make a great setting for the finale road and then I guess remember when Steve had to fly to New York to Valentine's Day episode. Yeah on the airplane. Steve and Greg were together and on the way there on the way back. They sat down. They SORTA plotted out together. What the finale would be this casino night idea plane? They're outlining this episode. I love that. Gregg said Steve. Why don't you write it? You should write it and Steve was like okay. Yeah I mean I think that's great but then this is a really fun tidbit. Steve got cold feet. Oh and he tried to get out of it. I guess this was during the time when he was still doing Evan Almighty on the weekends shoot on our show sometimes like four days a week we would shoot him out in four days and then he would fly on the weekends. He would be doing Evan Almighty and so he flew home and he had one weekend to write this finale script and his parents were in town visiting him at his house and so he went into Greg's office and he said there's I don't think I can do it justice. There's no way I can do it. I I should get out of it. But Steve had this great quote where he said. I don't know Greg Manage to talk them into doing it anyway. Like Greg has away. Where by the time he was leaving. Greg's office he was like I'm writing this episode again. How Nice that out of it Very Great Greg. We've sort of all said that he was kind of like Dad. Yeah although he's old enough to bear doubt obviously but he had sort of that father mentor thing of like figure it out. You're going to do it. It's going to be a pay and then you're like wait. What a great weight. I totally see that I came in here to tell you. I'm not doing it right now. I'm writing it. Yeah but he did say he was really pumped like that was the other part of it was that Greg really infused him with this enthusiasm so he was really excited so what he did was he went home and he would write the script after his parents went to bed. No stay up at night and write the script and he turned it Dan and he said then the writing staff did a bunch of punch-ups and like they usually do and that's how we got the script while way to go. Steve Wade is crazy man. I love that story all right. That was a good one moving onto fastback number two. This is a super sized episode. Greg said that he was doing an interview for the Chicago Tribune and he had mentioned in the interview kind of casually that he wished that the finale for season two could be supersized. Well this started a whole online petition by office fans they started writing in like crazy to NBC. Give me my remote northern attack in office. Tally started these online petitions and it was the fans that got us the super sized episode. That's great and you know what this was before. Twitter and instagram easy to start an online petition back. Then Yeah No. You didn't have the same outreach. And they really just like kept at it and NBC. With like okay and Greg was thrilled. Thank you so much to the office fans for making that happen because I could not imagine this episode being twenty two minutes. There's so much we would've missed. I wish this episode was an hour. I dodged even more I know but I I kinda feel like that about almost all but this one in particular. I'm so happy with longer. That's what she said that's what she said we'll speaking of longer. This podcast is probably also going to be super sized today because well we're gonNA have a special guest joining us later. Gin and I got to talk to someone about this episode and this person was such a delight Geno. We talked for like almost an hour we did. And we just want you guys to hear at all so buckle and it's going to be a super sized episode. It's going GONNA be jam packed bump on Bomb Wink wink number three. We got a lot of questions from fans about what it was like to transform the warehouse into a casino. I mean seriously. Can we talk about this for a second? Can we talk about under MIFFLIN BUDGET FOR PARTIES? I mean as head of the Party Planning Committee. I usually had some streamers and a cake that I mean in one plastic tablecloth flake true but then Michael takes us on a booze cruise. He throws us this casino night. Where's he getting the money for this? At eight seconds Jonah. Uc them converting the warehouse. And there's all these extra employees there's giant neon signs there's dealers I mean. Where is this budget coming from that? I don't know that I don't know but I did reach out to Kenta Pedia to find love. We transformed the warehouse into a casino. And this is what he said. He said that he hired a company that specialized in creating casinos for special events like Christmas parties or college fundraisers. I've been to those things have you. I've been to fundraisers that are casino nights as so there are these companies and they send dealers they send equipment and so he just said he hired one of those companies and then he used all the employees from the company as Extras in the episode. What was this budget? I'm sorry I can't stop talking about the budget. But it was Kerr was crazy. Do you think raised more money than the party cost. No no it was definitely a loss. It was a loss for sure. Speaking of the whole Casino Setup. Fan Question from exploring lauren she asked inbetween scenes. Did you all play any poker games did you? Did you play any of the Games? No I didn't did you. Oh Yeah you yeah. There are any time that I was leading poker. I love professional dealers. Sell my character was stationed at the poker tables to snow. Whenever I was in the background of any scenes I was sitting at a poker table and we played poker. It was like the greatest time the time I mean. I have a memory like sitting and watching. You guys play cards. Because I really didn't know how to play poker only just learned. I'M NOT GREAT. I mean I always think I can win with pair threes. I'm that I'm basically Phyllis UK. David Denman Chris Workman and at Nielsen. Junior those guys were on the crew and I'm trying to think who else but there was. There was a little group of us like six or eight of us and we would go to rinse garage and play poker on the weekends. Yeah so I love that. You guys were doing that means. I'm sure I just was sitting there. Being chatty well listen. I think we should take a break and get into this episode because like we said it is. It's a long one so we'll be right back. A Quiet Place 2
"A quiet place was an interesting. Sf Thriller about her family hunted by creatures that use sound to track their prey. Now there's a sequel and emily blunt is once again. Evelyn and the actor was surprised by the reaction to the I fell. I know we didn't anticipate the sort of meteoroid life the first one took and we didn't think it was in the cards. I mean you don't know what people will make of a film that's effectively silent and it's like an art house film but found this sort of meteoric life and it's thrilling and that has so much room for expansion and it seemed like a natural progression to see the next chapter. John Krasinski who wrote produced starred and directed the original was also taken back by the first films reaction for people to think that it was cool was was so unbelievably emotional and beautiful and It's not only the success of which is Great. I think it's the fact that people connected to what we connected to certain emily. I did this movie as a metaphor for parenthood and the fact that people picked up on all that stuff the fact that people loved all the detail of the first one and all the elements of survival and this idea of family was was just really overwhelming. Where we all taken back? I mean I did not expect it to do as well as it did. But the story was compelling now. She's a single mom with a full plate. Is Evelyn in a quiet place to broken promises? A really is a really harrowing experience for the kids but ultimately I think it's a very powerful message that we see generational what happens within this family. Is that the kids forge ahead as the kids have to grow up. They have to take charge and also with Evelyn's character with my character. Evelyn she is now a single parent. Newborn baby houses destroyed two other children to to protect. And she's out there she's exposed she's grief stricken and so it's a really intense intensely emotional state that she's in And the world is very daunting. Suddenly John Krasinski had a plan for the first fill. The truth is I had no intention of doing equal. I don't think anyone thought that there would be a sequel. This was never designed to be a franchise and yet I think that The the power of the world is the thing that makes it So possible to delve into it again but I mean by that is I think most sequels have a hero or a villain and you have to build the world around them and we have the benefit of having the opposite beach. We have this world built and ready to play in so you can drop whatever hero and villain you want into that world. And that's what's really exciting about it. Emily Blunt talks about how she found this sequel. Just think for me. I found this one emotionally just a more intense experience because There isn't any respite from the agony of what they've gone through Does Not one moment where it's pleasant for them. It's just a gen and it is like a runaway train. This film and I think if the first film was almost like how do you avoid getting cut. I feel like the essence of this film is. Oh my God. How do we stop the bleeding? You know it just doesn't stop and so I feel probably probably one of the most intense experiences. I've had doing some of those scenes John Krasinski Hunt. Parenthood being strong theme of these films. The metaphor of the first one was parenthood. If you extend that metaphor could I play with that metaphor longer and I think? There's an evolution and innate evolution the metaphor that really became powerful in my mind what. I mean by that is if the first one was about the promise. You make his parents to your kids. That has long. As you're with me I can keep you safe and everything's GonNa be fine. That's a promise that every parent makes it their child and sadly has to be inevitably broken at some point in that relationship and so I thought when that promises broken that's growing up and so when you let your kids go out into the world on their own. That's what growing all about and so. That's what the metaphor the second one became the idea of these kids in this family dealing with loss dealing with their safety net being taken from them. There is definitely more to see in this film. We definitely get to experience much more than we did in the first one but my goal again in order to respect the audience was. I didn't want to just do a movie. That was bigger and flashier. I wanted to do a movie that the story and the characters dictated everything so when you leave the path yes we're going to the unknown yes. We're leaving the farm but we're leaving the farm because the family has to leave the farm so we're expanding the the world but the intimacy comes from the rules are still the same John. Krasinski talks about some of the other themes of the film. One of my favorite things about the first movie was this dichotomy of surviving versus thriving that my character was really content with just surviving. There needed to be no flourish in life. It just was about putting your kids to bed and making sure that they're safe in the mother's character. Evelyn was. That wasn't enough that you couldn't survive in a world you had to thrive you had to let these kids live a full life and I think that the the real fun part of me writing was playing with that dichotomy again in the second one that basically her idea of thriving may have put her husband in dire danger and sort of been one of the reasons that Killed Him so. I think that she's sort of investigating that theory and reinvestigating and she sort of becomes the protector and the survivalist and certainly doesn't want to lose anyone else in her family for bite. This Tony Taylor.
