Fresh update on "joe burrow" discussed on The Herd with Colin Cowherd
"God oh my god i was. I was so afraid you were going to say that i Odd logic gimme some data. Give me something. I can hang my hat on. Give me a reason to believe. There's a lot of trends that do go towards the the bengals side but the biggest the biggest glaring thing to me is just injuries for the steelers They had a couple of guys on the offensive line. Tj awad chertoff. Had another guy. Go down the defense. I think the anti johnson. The rock receiver got hurt his well. This team is not that good. I'm with people. Neither is pittsburgh that the offense has major issues. And i've seen it with again. We talked all the time. i thought. The bengals made a big mistake taken the wide receiver over the offensive lineman. He's been sacked nine times now. Joe burrow through two weeks. That is not good. Okay this guy's coming off major knee injury. Now he's been sacked two weeks in. But what i did see from him. Is that never die. Attitude with this kid's gonna keep slugging gonna keep throwing this offense can move the ball and i liked it that they can do the ball much better than this. Pittsburgh team were pittsburgh's kind of feeling like they're one dimensional. They they really depend on this run game and doing play action pass all sat. Run game bengals. Odd that problem. Joe broken singable up and down the field where these so four and a half in a divisional game when this number should just be three i i do. I really liked the bengals. Your so this is my my. Siamese says play of the week. Do you have it. Power rated it three yup at a power to three. What are the trends. You've seen that you like I saw a trend that i really liked. That was about teams. That lost are now playing a road game. So it's back to back games. Second game divisional game so it was something like that. I'd have to check bad. Labs again. Because i saw it on monday morning but my fifty eight percent of the time individual thing.
Adam Silver Says Play-in Tournament Expected to Stay
"What are your thoughts on the NBA player playing tournament to keep it or scrap it? Keep it. I loved it. Made the last 10 12 games of the season. You know so many more teams. So many more fan bases were emotionally invested, You know, from 6789 10 11 12 seeds, so I loved it, And I know some of the players didn't Sorry to hear about it. If you don't like it come to, you know, go find another line of work because it was outstanding for the game. And the game is bigger than any individual. The best part about that to me about keeping it is that anybody think about tanking Making something part of the progress process. You can't do that because Everybody wants to compete more than ever before. Players like Look, we know you got to make organization decisions, but we have a chance to get in the playoffs, get playoff money and understand the playoff experience, then that's going to work for us, Adam Silver says is here to stay. It should stay. I don't care Anybody else has to say about it. This was a boon to the NBA. It was not a detriment when it comes to the end of the regular season. Either or Better quarterback to build around Joe Burrow or Justin Herbert.
Jaycee Horn's Rise to the NFL
"We'll do some people thought that the panthers maybe should have taken a quarterback specifically justin fields with number eight pick. What is matt rule said about his decision to go with jesse horn. What does he like about this guy. One thing he did say as like jaycee lived this like he knows what it takes to be successful in the nfl. Because he saw his dad he lived at his dad was. Nfl player. great nfl player. he's grown up with it. His whole life play at the highest level. He's got thirty three inch charms. He's six one. Whatever he is ran for three jumped forty two inches. I mean he's a. He's a rare physical specimen who also has the pedigree that's hard to find. He loves jc horn. He loves the physical nature cockiness and the size the speed to match up with all the big receivers in this division but it also tells us something about what the panthers feel about. Sam darnold over justin fields. Right i mean darnold is a guy when they traded for him. They talked a lot about this like he could almost be in this draft from an age standpoint. He's only twenty. Three darnold turns twenty four june. He's younger than joe burrow. Who of course was in last year's draft but it's a risk and if just enfield's goes on to be an all pro guy and chicago and the bears answer quarterback. History will not look upon this panthers decision favorably again. Nothing to do j. c. more about darnold versus justin fields.
Free Agency 2021: Biggest Winners and Losers From Day One
"Who's the biggest winner from day. One the biggest winner from day one already told you it was. It was a my intro. You're listening great question. Jonnu smith out. It's cam newton. Well that depends kenyans a starter for sixteen games. That's right that's true. It's yeah okay. Potentially find jonah smith. Donald smith big contract with the patriots They invest heavily in him. You like this for him i do. I think you know Obviously the quarterback is the concern. But this is the scenario especially with the move that they made that we look for in fantasy as tight end could be the leader of the pack in terms of targets and opportunities and so look cam was not good in twenty twenty. If cam does start sixteen games in two thousand twenty. One greg olsen. During a five year stretch was pretty awesome of the top tier tight ends of the guys that we did. We talk about what he was in the next group you know. And so from twenty two thousand twenty sixteen. Greg olsen averaged a hundred eighteen targets a season seventy seven catches Decide one thousand yards and five times. Johnny could do that. One season estimate put them right around a top five tight end. Greg olsen was great and not only was he great but we also saw from cam newton in that stretch that he could give you greg olsen. Who could finish as a top eight tight in five straight seasons and give you a number to wide receiver in four of those five seasons three or four of those five seasons whether it was. Steve smith or kelvin. Benjamin and even ted ginn one year. So that's interesting. I'll afforded talking about that on the show tomorrow on the tuesday morning show and then of course we'll have a whole bunch of more news items to react to. Hopefully we'll get some kenny golladay news at some point on tuesday or maybe it'll happen later on monday night as record this at about nine fifteen eastern. Who's the biggest loser from day. One the biggest loser from day one on asking these questions before. I told you that we were starting with these egypt's before the show The biggest guys they ryan tannehill johnny smith and Us down smith and corey davis They're going to have to struggle to replace those guys Davis probably more. So the jonah just from the standpoint of what he was last year with his production number two receiver sixty five catches nine hundred plus yards and five touchdowns. So we'll see what they do in in in that in that regard but i think Tannehill you know. I had him as the number eleven quarterback. I dropped in the thirteen after today. Just because i think it was close between in my mind. Joe burrow and tom brady put them behind both those guys. Okay how 'bout jameis winston ryan tannehill right now. It's soom jameis winston as the starter. I still go. i think it'd be messy. You know. I can't situation we're taking those not blaming So i was hoping james would go someplace else and tastes hill. Would still be the guy with maybe a rookie or somebody. Young that they could groom continued. Just gonna to get you know too much of the mill package of james as the starter and if as milton starter. Davis is gonna play very much so it just feels like it be messy situation oil. Who do you like better. Corey davis with the jets nelson agholor with the patriots. I think adler is going to be bad. I don't trust the situation. You know i mean he. He had so many big. Plays for the raiders last year and he was so good for derek carr but he did that on eighty two targets. I don't think he gets eighty two targets with the patriots. He's going to do the same thing. So with what cam does running the ball with what jonah smith brings to the table with. What the rest of the receiving corps will look like if julian edelman on the team if he's healthy Nagla is going to be A guy that's not on many fantasy rosters middle of the season whereas corey davis could be the best receiver for the jets. I don't know if that's going to be the case. But i would take davis by far over niagara.
Dallas Cowboys Reach Multi-Year Deal With Star Quarterback Dak Prescott
"Salary cabin number for two thousand and twenty one is going to be twenty two point two million dollars all right now. Head dak prescott. In franchise tag again this will happen in a procedural sense but had to cow tried to go at this with dak prescott on the franchise tag for the two thousand and twenty one season. We've talked about this a number of times. That value would have been thirty. Seven point seven million dollars so the fact that the cow is now have him onto the books. We're talking about the value that is on the books in the books. However you want to look at the books whether they're e books or physical books whatever the case may be that value is now twenty two point two million dollars now. I know that we have all said some things about the dallas cowboys but they are not complete dummies. They surely budgeted for the franchise tag value. Because let's be honest. They came about twenty four hours. We think you know. Close to having the actually placed the franchise tag and maybe carried out with that prescott. So the cowboys have room for the franchise tag at the very least so you look at that quake matt that adam schefter was kind enough to do for you. That is fifteen point. Five million dollars that the dallas cowboys suddenly have because they've got this long term deal with that prescott. This is something that we've been saying for two years now. If you do this you can. You can kick this down the road. You can prorate it you can extended you can whatever term you want to put on it. You can spread the impact of the deal out of the signing bonus of the overall guaranteed money out over the lives of the contract so it doesn't hit you all at once. That's the one killer about the franchise tag is that it is fully and completely guaranteed in franchise tag is a one year deal so the value of it last year and dak prescott was on the tag for thirty one point. Four million dollars. The two thousand twenty dallas cowboys had to absorb that value all at once and they would have had to have done it again. Here in two thousand and twenty one but because they have adjusted that they now have fifteen and a half million dollars that they were seemingly budgeting for dak prescott that now they can apply to different areas. Maybe it is a safety. Maybe it's a defensive end. Maybe it's a defensive tackle. Maybe it's you know an offensive tackle. But they want swing tackled death whatever the case may be. We know that the cowboys obviously hold the tenth overall. Pick in the draft. They could go a number of different directions there. They wanna cornerback kayla farther patrick's retain do wanna take one of the tackles and rashawn slater as all this is. This is setting up and this is an important thing. I want you to hear me here and watch me here. You cannot waste this money. If dallas cowboys the whole point and getting this done with thac prescott besides obviously establishing having the best player on your team for the foreseeable future the point in doing this is to alleviate the salary cap space now. And i don't like the term when now if you watch us often you know that but you look state of the nfc east. It is by sudha. I mean the philadelphia. Eagles are a disaster. The new york giants doping daniel jones is legitimate. The washington football team has a great team but is void of the most important position of the game and a quarterback. Maybe they'd get somebody this cycle as we all expect quarterbacks to change teams at a higher rate than usual but the case in point is at the dallas cowboys are now. We're going to see this all day on tuesday by the way and we'll talk about it of course but they're going to be overwhelming favorites to win the nfc streit and you think about the conference that they plan is really a contender in the nfc. And i mean that with all due respect to the reigning champion tampa bay buccaneers. But you've got the bucks you've got the green bay packers and then who scares you. May maybe the rams you believe in matthew stafford but the point is thinking about the afc. I mean the. Afc has the bills and the ravens and the chiefs and the titans and the steelers and the browns. I mean you could go. A number of different ways. Did the colts have carson. Wentz ends up getting his act together and so the cowboys play in the weakest division in the weaker conference and so now they have this opportunity to really kind of take their future in the here and now they have fifteen and a half million dollars that they weren't necessarily planning on having use it and if they don't use it it is all for not so i mean we are all imploring the dallas cowboys to ultimately use this salary cap space. This is a very very very luxurious gift. That they now have been afforded that they didn't previously have so shattered of course to the dallas cowboys. Let's see here let's move. I'm i wanna talk of course about the bonus the dak prescott because well. It's stupid large. I mean it's amazing. Dak prescott has now the largest signing bonus in the nfl. You look at joe flacco. Once upon a time. Got forty million. Dollars matt ryan forty six and a half. Remember if you're on the fence about this value. We've talked about this before as well. Matt ryan became the first quarterback in nfl history to average over. He had thirty but to average at least thirty million dollars per year with his new contract that he signed with the atlanta falcons in two thousand and eighteen. That was three years ago. Dak prescott signed a four six year. Deal whatever you wanna call it. That was three years ago. They matt ryan signed that he was the first quarterback to hit the thirty million dollars a year. Mark prescott just hit forty but the reality and we've been saying this forever is that there are so many deals coming around the bend. Josh allens gotta get paid. Lamar jackson's gotta get paid. Baker mayfield's got to get paid extra calories. He's going to get paid the year after that. It's going to be time for joe burrow to finally get paid and when all of those players get paid this forty million dollars a year. Mark the dak prescott got this one hundred twenty six million dollar. Total guaranteed is sixty six million dollar signing bonus all these things that are currently the top of the nfl. The most in nfl history. That's the verbiage in determining that you're hearing associated with this and it's all literally true but it's all going to get pushed down because all of these players on this list. Joe flacco matt ryan matthew stafford at fifty million signing bonus. Aaron rodgers fifty. Seven and a half russell wilson not going to be a dallas cowboy now by the way sixty five million dollars. Dak prescott topped that all of these quarterbacks in all likelihood we'll top that that's the reality of the nfl things are always moving in one direction. It is up
Ohio State shocks Clemson & Bama dominates Notre Dame
"And we're taping this about an hour after a pretty stunning performance by ohio state crushing clemson in the semi final game and so we both had two games. There were both blowouts but the second one didn't go the way anybody thought rights to yeah to blow outs. One felt like the game. You expected alabama notre dame. The other one. I never in a million years that i think it would play out that way. And maybe that's my bad. Maybe i should have more faith in the buckeyes though having only seen them six times having only seen them play A couple big games. Nobody could have seen that coming. Nobody could have six touchdowns from dustin fields in snaps dominant performance. I think the thing i most underestimated was just how much fuel they were playing with from the For at the very least from last year's game that they've been holding onto this for twelve months Davos ballot played a role. Who's to say but clearly it was one of those situations where a team just comes out on fire. I hesitate to go down this road With you. But i'm gonna go there. Look you know what justin field pretty fantastic for the first three games of the season against lesser competition. And then he had that three. Pick game against indiana. Who's a good team was probably the best team. They played all season and then they played in the big ten championship game. They played a really good defense at northwestern and he looked like he lost confidence. I i don't know that but he just there was no chris. Alaba ver- and trae sermon ran the ball. Like he'd never run before and looked great. And but the passing game was left a lot to be desired to the point where A lotta people were saying. Hey wilson's now the the number two pick quarterback guy in the draft behind trevor lawrence. Now you fast forward. After this. And i'm talking to different people in football circles. Who our coaches. And they're like i would just discussions going to be really interesting now. What the jaguars may have between trevor lawrence and just field so just like justin feels was phenomenal tonight especially after taking a big shot. In the ribs from james galaxy that ended up being targeting and scou- scott ejected from another playoff game. Just like he did last year against shoe. But i mean these were some deep shots that he was throwing down field. I just thought well how they look terrific on really on both sides of the ball. I think they looked better than they had on. Defense a- this year given the competition but the one eighty on justin field from where he was where people felt about him after the northwestern game. I mean am. I understanding that am i stating that. I mean you. See the same thing i'm seeing. A lot of people were panicking about him. After the northwestern game in will i would say with the three interceptions against indiana and then the way he looked against northwestern. But how much do you think is with a higher state for you know. Not only they not played as many games so they haven't had As much time to figure their team out like trae sermon wasn't even factor until the last game and now he's he's had two huge games back to back. But then got chris alavi back. He missed the title game I mean they've had dating back and keep track of which week it was when they had their covert outbreak but and they had to cancel a game. But i mean they've had guys obviously going in and out of The twenty one day quarantine. That is now what seventeen days Like the day was out at one point like they may just be a case of. They finally got their whole team together at once. And they actually didn't those there were without three starters You know harry. Miller is one of their better offense of lineman. There were without a couple of defensive. Lineman they were allowed master teague forgotten man. Because that's not fair to him. But the way trae sermon trish. All of a sudden turned into the same same version that we saw ezekiel. Oh here by. The ezekiel elliott. Who was not even like in all conference honorable mention or second team all conference to the big ten year. They win the title because he just went wild in the three postseason games. And and now we're seeing trae sermon. Do that transform. It looks like they got. Adrian peterson to transfer from oklahoma compared to like elevated his game to ridiculous proportions. The i will say this. I feel like of the two of us. And i'm not trying to pop on the back here I feel like of the two of us. I was a little more of a believer in having a little more believer in justin feels. Maybe than you were at least as a passer. And i think some of that honestly stems from hearing all the elite eleven guys. And seeing him there where they raved about him in ways to a degree that they said. He's probably the most talented player they've had come through their Or quarterback and he looked like that god and i mean. This was the had some great performances. Obviously the numbers. You put up last year and at times this year. But i mean on that stage. The one thing that jumped out at me and you are both at the national title game in that stadium. A year ago was when it was head to head because trevor lawrence look fantastic when he shredded alabama as a true freshman. And that's when the hype. I would say that's when all of a sudden everybody fell in love with trevor lawrence and he is gonna be the first pick in the draft and a couple of years from now and he's done nothing to undermine that he's been terrific off the field. He's been terrific on the field. But joe burrow really was like outshine them last year in that head to head and certainly You know with justin feels it today just kind of was it was an amazing
Louisiana State University parts ways with Bo Pelini after one season as Tigers overhaul defensive coaching staff
"There are multiple reports out there right now. That bo pollini is gone from. Lsu that Experiment did not work very well. So several media outlets reporting this hour. That bo pollini is not coming back on twenty one. That was certainly the most controversial decision that it owes. You're on made let's Welcome in stewart. Mandel to the program. Stuart thank you very much Before we even get to the ball situation. I'd like to get your thoughts on that Well paul i gue-. I guess i would say that. That's something that we've all expected. Since about the second game of the season it just a bad higher and you know it's interesting that a year ago Does ron was getting all the praise in the world for an inspired Higher joe brady the passing game coordinator. Who kinda helps And it was instrumental in joe burrow's rise and that national championship. And then you had some staff changes to make this after this past season and we hire both lean. He's a big name and he's had success before and i get that but it just seemed like it was just such a terrible fit. He tried to revamp their scheme entirely. And this was a program. That had success under dave randall. On defense it wasn't broken. Tried to completely revamp the scheme regardless of the personnel. They lost so many guys to the draft last year and then and then even more before the season. And i just wasn't a good fit and just just a historically bad defensively shoot this year.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey
"It's important to provide clarity and that altered my thinking so that i can help. Young people understand where we're heading football players volleyball soccer players. Were asking the same question. Cross country student athletes. Those were really important and when our football player said is going to be meaningful in paul you have to go back to the uncertainty of july and try to figure out. Well how do you answer that question. I i hope it meant something when i presented the trophy to vanderbilt soccer team. I said thank you to them and they said thank you back you know. We provide an opportunity. Next thing you know. Sarah fuller becomes story and her jersey and helmet from really unique circumstances in the college football hall of fame right down the street. That doesn't happen if we don't try. I said in september last year was was. Lsu's time and joe burrow's time not knowing who's time it might be this year but it's not as if time passes and you get it again and that's why i thought it was important was because it's about them not about tickets and tv and money and there's plenty of rhetoric about that and you know what we sell. Tickets put things on tv. But i was asked to try to provide an opportunity. And i asked my staff to work to provide that opportunity. I worked with our presidents and chancellors to provide the opportunity We're still working on that or athletic. Directors are coaches and it has been difficult but it is a reward in itself and we want everybody to be healthy. we never waver from that reality. We disrupted games where we still tried to fulfill what i was asked during the summertime and I take that is a great sense of accomplishment For all of us. And i hope those who participated feel that way as
Zconomy: How Gen Z Will Change the Future of Business with Jason Dorsey
"Jason. Save up to fire nation and share. Something interesting about yourself that most people don't know sure what's up. Fire nation thrilled to be here with you. Huge fan fire nation. Everything about something that most people don't know about me is. I wrote my first book when i was eighteen years old and it was so successful. I ended up sleeping on the floor of a garage apartment with five thousand books that i had printed thinking somebody was going to buy them instead. They were furniture. So a bed of books means you're not selling as many books as you want to fire nation but guess what jason's grown he's matured and right. Now he's rocking z. Konami which is all about generation z. And how gen z is going to change the future of business. So i kind of want to start a few steps back jason. Because i'm just curious like how does one get into studying generations wide. Did that interest you. And why did you get into it. Yeah share well that. I book that i wrote when i was eighteen at ended up not selling it first and then becoming a real big bestseller and i started speaking all around the world and i ended up on sixty minutes and i was on. That show is all about millennials. And i'd written a bunch of books and started a company and everything was going great but after that show i started speaking all these corporate executives who are now our primary clients but i was speaking all these exact and he would say such terrible things about millennials and i am a millennial pretty fended lazier titled your pants or fall off. You live with your mom and all this stuff. And i'm like well. No actually. I have my own house in our own office building in my parents worked for me and my pants are on very snugly. Thank you very much. And so so after that i remembered Clear as day. I was in this boardroom. Big public company and the ceo had said Some things about millennial employees. That i just i didn't fully believe and i'd spoken about half a million millennials at that time and so i asked him because i didn't know any better. Now i serve on lots of corporate boards. You know one of the couples on sold for eleven billion dollars. I live in this world now. But back then i didn't i didn't i didn't know and it was really a set up for success so i asked him i said is there any way i can see your data about millennials because you say the turnovers hiring. They're not as engaged and on and on i. I love to understand better. So i can conceptualize it and maybe help also for so. There are a lecture or whatever so they sent the data to me. And the data didn't match with the ceo had just said in the boardroom which basically never happened. Ceo's don't go off the cuff in front of their boards prickly a private publicly-held company like that. So i asked my wife who has a phd. I said denise you know this is. The strangest thing was just in this room with this pretty famous. Ceo they said all these things with great conviction then. I looked at the data and the data doesn't match what they just said. I said what do you think we should do. And she looked at me and she says we start a research for. She's up because if they don't even know their own data if we can help them to understand their data make better decisions and we can really great copy and help lots of peoplesoft. Lots of challenges and so. That's how we got into this thirteen years ago. We founded the center for generational kinetics. We lead research all around the world for many of the biggest brands in the world. And all about separating generational myth from truth through data so leaders can make great decisions whether you're a startup or venture capital or your bootstrapping yet or you're in a big public company getting accurate data and being able to make decisions based on that increases the likelihood of success de risk strategies. That you're looking at drives innovation and so forth and we found that generations in particular or one area where there was just so much myth and so much misinformation and if we gave people great information that it could take action and that was incredibly exciting. We've had seven hundred clients since then which is pretty wild and done studies all around the world and just love it absolutely it now. Your ceo is just flat out wrong when it came to millennials and you had the data to back it up. Did you ever go back to him. And just be like joe burrow. Check us out. you're wrong in also my pants. They're pretty snug. Check them out. I know that was a quiet. But i really do credit him and i if it wasn't such a negative story i would say what company is because it's really big famous company but But no but. I do believe that he something that we saw frequently. Which is the idea that generations older generations. Think of millennials through the lens of their kids or their grandkids and so that that becomes a proxy for the whole generation. And in fact when we wrote the economy book new book. What we found is the same thing was happening again and there was all this misinformation and it just wasn't true and that's why we spent less two years right in the book is because we've got to clear this up because when people have the wrong impression about an entire generation it leads to so many problems for everybody. Everybody loses so no. I never never corrected him on it. But i do give him credit for sparking the idea. I'm glad that you do give them credit for sparking that idea because sometimes fire nation. Is those things you just like you know. I'm not just quite sure about that. Let me look into it. They can really uncover some great opportunities in one thing. That i think is a huge problem in this world in general and especially when you're talking about generations is just regurgitation. You'll hear one person on one talk. Show say one thing. And then you'll regurgitate it. And then somebody else regurgitates regurgitation and like seven layers down. You're like how'd you hear that. They're like oh. I don't really know like somebody just mentioned it and like now you're speaking it like it's the truth and it's just regurgitation of what you know is something that has no data to back it up. So what most people get wrong jason when it comes to generations break that down for us shared. There's a few things that jump out. The first is this belief. Generations are a box or stereotype and that is absolutely not true. We're generational researchers. This is what we do more than sixty five generational studies and what we see is generations are not a box but what they really are powerful clues and as long as we used them as clues and only clues to dry faster connection trust and influence in create all kinds of positive outcomes. We don't wanna put people in boxes. We wanna use this as clues. So we can figure out how to better lead market sell collaborate innovate and so forth. And when you sort of at that level people seem to really embrace it because it just gives them another lens to better connect. So i think the first is people think. Generations are boxes or stereotypes. And they're not in fact. Our clues are driven by math. We look for what's called predictability by scenario so that's the first thing that people i think it wrong. The second is this idea that generations are the same around the world. Now one of the things that we've uncovered repeatedly in our work. We publish all this on our website. Is that generations vary by geography so for example in the us will see differences between urban and rural within the same generation. And that i work a lot outside the us and we'll see differences. Has we travel around the world and that's important because if you're a global company or frankly a global brand fire nation is you want to make sure that you really representing each of the different geographies. And what makes them different now. One cool thing that we've uncovered and we talk a lot about this bunches. Economy is the most consistent generation the world. now that doesn't mean exactly the same but the most similar generation the world is now gen z. Gnc's about twenty three twenty four years old. The oldest and the reason the most similar is because of cheap mobile technology so if you live in different countries around the world you might even get your phone for free as long as you use it for payment. Think about it started using a text. Payer sort of like a mobile credit card in different parts of the world and because we've driven the cost of a mobile down solo basically two zero in many places now. All the sudden young people around the world are having access to entertainment news information dating banking on and on and on and as a result of that. We're seeing a lot more similarities. As i travel all around the world the younger you get but interestingly the older you get even to gen xer baby boomers from a different planet as you travel around the world. So that's something people get wrong. And then the last thing that i think people get wrong. And is they have to deal with a bunch. Is people confuse life. Stage or age with generation. So for example jen's is now twenty four but when we do studies and ask people how do you think the average millennial is they'll say twenty five as if we didn't keep getting older you never talking about millennials for fifteen years. Say there they're now forty. I think that's a board it because you stay in the saying generation but you pass through different life stages and frequently people confuse the two and it's very important to understand the difference because if you're trying to market or employer build a business that targets different groups generations gives you all these clues but we got to distinguish between the generation which travels up right at ages up baby boomers for teenagers versus life. Stage for example high school or college which are still pretty similar ages as they have been for the last four years and so knowing. The difference helps you to understand that. Yes really interesting. How people always confuse age with generations. And how that all goes. I mean you know. I was just talking to a friend the other day literally. He's in his late thirties. I'm in my late thirties. And he's just going off and riffing about jenner. How millennials or just entitled and all this stuff and it looks like you know where millennials. He's like oh no. I'm definitely not a millennial mike. Well we're we're like the oldest millennials millennials. And he's like well. I need to look at that. And so it was funny. He came back. We know there's actually a lot of great things about millennials and he's now like listing off all the good things because he now is identifying himself as a millennial so it's really interesting fire nation and yes. We do get older. That is what happens to all generations and all human beings foreshore. And we're gonna die something. We are back. And as i kind of teased before the break. I wanna get into. How generational work console challenges for fire nation. That's for us entrepreneurs but companies as well. Sure that with us. Sure one of the things. That also is not obvious as i'm venture partner at a venture capital firm and serve on lots of start up boards. It's an extremely passionate about and what we're seeing much of the opportunity being created today has a generational trend or thesis. It's the adoption of new technology new solutions or bringing a different way to look at old problems and when that happens that's where both change and frustration and challenge and frankly companies go out of business but it's also wear new opportunities are created so i'm speaking with entrepreneurs and working with entrepreneurs were trying to look at what are millennials and particularly gen z. Doing right now that you might want to be able to build a business around or leverage as their pine power influence increases so for the first time what we're seeing is technology trends are rippling from the youngest to the oldest and that's a huge shift. It used to be from the oldest more affluent down to the youngest. But now we're seeing younger. People are actually driving tech adoption up to the older but the key as an entrepreneur mississippi that we coach entrepreneurs about is being able to sort of step out of your generation and look at it through the lens of another generation. it's what we call generational contexts. One of the best ways to do that is actually bring members of that generation into the conversation. I can't tell you how many times i'm speaking at places. And they're asking me all these questions about millennials or gen z and. I'm like well. Why don't we invite some of them to the conversation. Let's talk to them. Uh let's actually talk with them. See what they say. Say get and so. I think when you look at bringing generational diversity into the workplace into innovation. You can solve all kinds of interesting challenges. I'll give example right now. What we're seeing is the gen z and even younger millennials. I talk about both of these in this economy book. They want a different on boarding experience. Obviously we're in this time of covert and all these changes but even before that what we saw is that the youngest generation wants to be on once on boarding to be by text message. Which sounds i know a little bit wild but there are companies. Do all of their on boarding through text message so you get semes- before you Short for your first day in alaska you just give you a simple example. This is in the book from coming called on border. When you they'll send a text message and it'll say what's your favorite snack three o'clock when your energy starts to go down. Do you have a favorite sports team are causing all this sort of stuff and the is when you show up for your first day. Or they'll even now senator gift baskets to your house. They'll have all your favorite snacks ready for you on your show up because they already know because you put in your text message or the. Have your favorite sports team. Or they'll find the best place that you wanna go eat or have that food delivered so they're engaging you by text message in a process that generally used to be in person and frankly pretty terrible at most companies. There's another company that worked in with again. This is generational trend. They figured out how to pay all employees fifty percent of their wages every day at no cost. They're called instant and what they did. Is they basically said you get a text message or message on your phone after your shift. And it says hey. Would you like half your money today. Yes or no. If you click s you get your money. Will all the sudden now you have. An entire generation is growing so fast that thinks they should always be able to get half their paycheck. Every day will imagine how that changes so many other things and all the sudden other generations. What do they say well. This text messaging on boarding thing is pretty cool. You mean i can get paid every day. That's pretty awesome. I think i want that. To and all the sudden the generational trends creates huge businesses. And those are the types of things were seeing you know so much. Innovation is driven by other generations. This is the key they don't even think it's new or different when we interview them. They think you've always been able to do on boarding by text message because they never got on onboard before there was text messaging or if they've only worked at a place that gave them the ability to get paid every day. That's how they think everybody gets paid. And you know older generations. So i work with the frequently. Get defensive and they're like you know. The young generations are trying to change everything. And i'm like no. They're not this is just all they've ever known they don't know any differently. Change to them is actually doing what you're proposing and it's not about one being right or wrong. It's going we can. We can leverage us. We can adopt this and all the sudden on boardings better retention is higher engagement is higher in these types of things and you see it on the marketing side for those fire nation members who are really growing their businesses and they're more than sales marketing. Same exact deal and the idea is just recognizing this you're creating so much opportunity. We see this particularly with social media. We see this with podcast such as yours that this is a great way to engage younger generations who then index for talking about these things and driving awareness in referrals and excitement fire nation. So many things to take away here. One of my favorite things jayson broke down was specifically tech trends are rippling from the youngest. To the oldest. Like think about that shift. Think about that change. How the ripples actually going from the youngest to the oldest now which is a complete flip from how it used to be back in the day and one thing. I wanna really dial in on just because i'm personally curious and i think fire nation is to is this the up and coming generation now. Let's talk about generation z. Like who is generation z. And what do we need to know about them. Yeah absolutely so gen z. The key thing is that they're already twenty three or twenty four years old. So that's a good starting point and what we uncovered in our research and we publish. This is economy. Book is at gen. Z is the key thing we got all these research firms around the world to change their birth years. Gen z does not remember nine eleven and that is a huge deal because it's the biggest event for the millennial generation we call generation defining moment. But jesse doesn't remember it at all. They learned about it in school or heard about it from a parent or they watched the video on youtube. But it's not something they experienced and they're now twenty three twenty four years old so a huge event of the generation before they don't remember in fact they're they're covid nineteen is essentially their defining moment. This pandemic is the generation defining moment that they're gonna take with them and we talk about this a lot. So one thing is they. Don't remember kievan of a previous generation and the other is there. Cuban is happening right now. But what i think you're entrepreneurs will find super interesting is that we've been doing this. Study for the last five years called state of gen z and. It's our big study released every year. And what we've uncovered and we've seen it for five years in a row now is gen. Z is more practical or frugal with their money than previous generations. And this is shocking and when we dig into it what we find out is that gen z came of age around the great recession. And what do i mean by that. Their speakers are experts. Like you talked about earlier. This regurgitation people running around saying oh gen z struggled during the great recession in the workforce they were twelve and were not working right but instead what they did is. They saw their parents struggle. They heard their parents struggle. They know people lost their houses. They saw millennials drowning in student loan. Debt having back home a mom and dad and you put all that together and what you see is. They're very conservative or practical with their money. As a result they're driving double digit growth at stores. They like couponing they wanna know. They got a good deal. They want things to be a bargain. They want them to last a long time really have utility and what we see. The example. i'd like to give is a gen zero sixteen years old. We'll have a birthday party. They'll get fifty dollars. They're all excited it away. And then they'll go to their mom or their dad and say hey. Can i have fifty dollars. Wanna go buy something. Mom or dad will say but you just got fifty dollars. And they'll say oh. No that's my money your money. It's overseeing that so if you're trying to market to them you've got to understand their practicality with money we also see the gen z when we do values based research. What we find is for the last four years Their top concern was climate change. Or would they would call climate crisis in their own words. And so that's been the top that they've been looking for brand alignment and for entrepreneurs to get behind and so forth however in the last six months we are new study. Social justice has leapfrog. Climate changes their top issue. And it's significantly more now so all the sudden as you see the generation respond to events around them. You can sort of see how they're shaped so if you wanna make sure in line with their values you gotta know what their values are going. Even deeper on the employment side is people look to hire them. Gen z no is looking for stability. This one's this one's tougher for entrepreneurs. So i want to explain it. They're looking for stability in an employer. What do i mean by that. Gen z saw these layoffs. I heard the layoff. Seen millennials struggle and as a result they're looking for an employer that they view as stable. So it's interesting because they tend to automatically defined stability by being a big company. So they'll say. I want to work for a big company will say why and they well because they're stable and the truth is you and i both know that. Just because you're big company does not at all mean that you're stable and just because you're a small business doesn't mean that you're not stable so it's important that you message to them. We also found in our research is gen. Z is very much interested in benefits which is shocking given their age in fact two years ago. Twelve percent of gen z was already saving for retirement. Wow and yeah. That's crazy right and many of them already have an emergency savings account. These are eighteen year olds. That are taking up their phones showing us emergency savings accounts and it. Just it's such a different generation. I think the key here. Mrs so important for all the marketers who are listening our nation is at gen. Z is not millennials. Two point oh they are not millennials. Just more extreme. That's total bunk. People say that it is not true. Jesse is a completely different generation raised by different set of parents who has come of age only knowing social media it has always existed for them. That's why they trusted so much at the same time. They're more diverse than any previous generation. Different set of values different purchasing pathways. And now the key is they over index on influence because of how they use digital media and already twenty four years old fastest growing generation in the workforce today on a percentage basis. And they're gonna be the most important consumers to get right over the next ten to fifteen years. One thing that i assume and please correct me if i'm wrong. Because it's just an assumption but generation x. And millennials like this is like. I'm speaking of my generation's here that i cut kind of overlap. Both pretty closely. It's we came to like being seventeen eighteen years old and it came to money in debt. Just kind of close our eyes and kind of believed the rhetoric of. Hey you just have to go to college and it's going to be expensive and you're going to get college dad and that's okay and you're just going to be a paid off at some point in the future and now like millennials and gen xers just hammered with this dead. They can't payoff ten twenty even sometimes thirty years later because it was just brutal with the mountains of debt that people kind of blindly get into it. Seems from what you're saying. Generations not gonna kind of take that same approach in just blindly. Sign away their lives to this debt of secondary education in colleges and universities in the such. Is that true. Wow that is such an insightful. I mean you you are super pro do so yes. That is actually true What's interesting is when we studied student. Loan debt with millennials in particular. That's what we call an economic anchor. So what it's causing. It's actually causing millennials. Now this is wild to delay marriage kids and buying a home because of student loan debt and that has massive ramifications on all parts of the economy to everything from financial services whether or not. You're buying life insurance. You know the the homebuilding recovery like on and on we could keep going to income households. There's just there's so many things that are impact even ultimately the ability to take care of your parents later on so what we saw. Was that large student loans at delayed major life commitments which we which is what's happened as a result And by the way gen z will tell you they're not sure that if spending a whole bunch of money and college actually pays off his it remains to be seen right now for millennials. We were told. I'm a millennial. We were told getting the best college at an. Just get debt. And will all be worth it and then for a lot of it wasn't on the flipside. Gen z in our new. Study in this in this economy book because it's important to understand how thing about education gen z is trying to graduate from college with as little as possible ice which is super cold. They're also saying that they're looking. They're very interested in the employability of their career. So so if they go and they pursue a certain path. Am i going to be able to get a job in that path. Now by the way kobe. Nineteen has been a massive massive. You know challenge for that because there are people that were three or four years into college university you know. Maybe they're going to study retail merchandising. Well aren't hiring never hired for that role again or they studied. You know oil and gas and those aren't hiring whatever it is so all the sudden people who already had you know pretty heavy commitment are now realizing that that path isn't there for them but we are single. Gen z particularly during this experience. Right now is they're saying. Hey i want to make sure. I'm getting value for my education and raven seeing well if it's going to be online only i'd rather go to a community college or state school or somewhere else. Get some credits. And then i'll figure out. If i want to go back into the future maybe take a year off and then come back and so forth so there definitely much more conservative with debt when it comes to college university and by the way the other people who are more conservative are their parents boomers had to cosign on all those millennial loans just. That's my mom about it right. And that as a result for many millennials it was tough for them to pay it off on the flipside. Gen-x is going well. I don't know if it's worth it gen x. Gen z kids. You will not end up. Like those millennials so the that's also being weighed into the conversation now is college university worth it and then you add the layer of kobe. Nineteen is it worth it if it's nontraditional experience and you know i don't know the answer to that but it is something we're observing and now this is where it gets really interesting. So the oldest members of gen z. Those that are about eighteen to twenty four. They're bearing the brunt of this. Pandemic what i mean by that is in our latest study. That group was most likely more than any other generation to lose their job. Have a decrease in pay or have a shift in responsibilities meaning. They had to assume a job that they didn't sign up for where it gets interesting though is younger so my daughter is nine years old. Her name is russia Sushi is in fourth grade right now. She heard this is in the book in third grade. Her last end of the year project. Which i didn't know anything about Was she went and built a presentation. She built all and google sides. She built it all in spanish. She had animation. She presented it. She recorded it and then she uploaded to classroom and she thought that was completely normal. She's nine and then of course. You saw one of my powerpoint slides. He's not very good. So i say that because the younger members of gen z. This is the real twist here. They might end up turning this pandemic into a positive. Because they're going to learn a whole different way to learn to collaborate they're going to get the benefit of the older part of the generation struggling. So they can learn from them. All of this stuff largely will be resolved in terms. Of least what normal looks like in the future and so they're gonna get the benefit of all of that the closer you are to those transition years of eighteen to twenty four the worse is but the further away the more benefit could end up being you so it's pretty interesting that within the same generation you can have two very different experiences and by the way this is what happened. To millennials millennials like me who crashed into the great recession and then the millennials who came afterwards who benefited from a very robust economy. So even within the same generation you can see pretty significant differences. I mean fire nation. I really hope you're enjoying this contest. Much as i am. Because i'm seeing the application to the real world and that's so important because we're entrepreneurs in the real world. We own businesses and companies in the real world in this stuff makes a massive impact so jason of everything that you shared today. What's the one key takeaway that you really wanna make. Sure fire nation gets from all of this awesome stuff above generational impact and the generational studies. That you've done and then share how we can even learn more about it through you and any call to action. You might have for fire. Nation is time to share. Yeah absolutely so the number. One thing that i would share. You know as an entrepreneur myself now for twenty four years is i would do. It's called a generational snapshot and what that means is you create essentially a pie chart representing the different generations. Either of your customers or of your employees or team members or ideally of both. Because what you'll often find is that there's more generations and you suspect it and it will help you to shape your messaging your leadership in your marketing to better fit them and going a bit further if you don't see enough of the next generation coming in particular on the customer side that's definitely a yellow flag that you need to pay attention and make sure that your dappling for the next generation because they will be the ones that drive growth. So that's the best easiest how to that will cost you zero dollars that a promise will make you money. Which are the type of things i'm all about. And if you want a whole bunch more in terms of how to actually recruit and retain motivate and so forth across generations or market and sell. You can definitely check out the new book. It's called economy. How gen z will change the future business and what to do about it. We do talk about all four generations and just packed with how to in case studies and all kinds of cool stuff and we'll put together a special promo for fire nation. New it be on my website. Which is jason dorsey. Dot com slash. Fire you'll be able to get all of that. They're including three free video courses. Because i am a passionate entrepreneur. Have been for a long time. NFL Week 11: Joe Burrow's Season Is Over
"All right. So we know jabbar joe burrow got hurt We know now that it is much much worse than they thought it was. He follows a line of players. Including rg three. Alex smith and kyle allen who have all sustained incredibly ridiculous injuries at fedex field.
NFC East teams all have 3 wins
"Here's a nice little funds that too about the nfc east right now. So it's basically a four way tie. Every team has three wins. The eagles have that one tiger as the bengals. Yup that put them half peterson. We laughed at him. Put that actually could design the division. He's a genius for doing that. Got it right The the los angeles rams are four. No against the nfc east los angeles rams have more wins against that division than any team in that division has against the other twenty eight teams in the nfl. I love it. I love it. So it's it's three six one and then three three and seven three seven three and seven. Yeah so thanksgiving day. What we'll leave winner of that game is in first place sole possession of the nfc. I'm genuinely excited for the. Nfc has been joel year. We've all had our fun but now that you get in the middle or late november all four teams able to possibly win vision that's awesome. It's awesome like that's actually a very fun concept to have. I ran the numbers inside my own brain. It's not looking good. It's more than fifty percent that the winter the nfc east is going to be six and ten who say it's not looking good for the washington new. They have a tough schedule. Everybody does if you look at every team's schedule from this. Guess because they're all bad. Yeah all bad so everything that they plays better than them which tough unless they're playing each other and they beat each other up because of the beast but every team basically has to play. I think two games against nfc west teams play three games against nfc west teams. This is classic that it's it's actually kind of breaking for the cowboys. A little bit because the cowboys play the washington for that might decide it. Football team can beat the cowboys. Then i think they have the inside track. Yeah the winner of that game is going to have the inside track. But the fact that they get They they play out the ravens should be tough but at the bengals without joe burrow than they have the niners in the eagles at home Do the washington football team having to play at steelers at niners verse. Seahawks that's gauntlet. It's tough going to be a tough. But they beat the dallas cowboys on thanksgiving. I think when you take into account that the football team has the best point differential in the division which is huge. Because i think that's like the sixth tie-break you have to say that it favors the football team and if the football team wins the nfc east. You can't change the name because then you have to play into the month of january and that there was the whole marketing schedule and they have to be the football team for another season. That
"joe burrow" Discussed on The Lead
"So-called. There was a lot of talk about. Joe burrow returning to his home state of ohio and being close to his family and friends. What is your sense of how he settled in is he home. Yes and no. I think the ohio thing is interesting and because if you this takes some regional understanding cincinnati views itself as the republic of cincinnati and not even really a part of ohio. And i think the end where. He's from an athens is actually steeler country And in a college town and he never necessarily grew up a cincinnati fan. But it's still it's a bit of a homecoming in that. He's coming back from his successful stint at lsu for sure as a rookie. Captain presumably the starting qb for many years to come. He's already become the face of this franchise. How has he handled the spotlight the same way. He always handles the spotlight and pressure. Just with the absolute coolest demeanor that you'll find next member. Well i'm very well and off instant play very well so there's been no incident. There's been no post game where he hasn't said the right things after they got trounced by baltimore. He's like i don't understand why everybody's making such a big deal of this deal with it. And i'm back in fight every play like i have been. We didn't make plays when he has a calming presence to him because he's just sort of that's his reputation and that's kind of who is. He's just. Mr cole is been speech. Got a lot of attention coming from from southeast ohio. it's it's a very very impoverished area and he talked about hunger impoverished ohio communities. And i'm here for all those. All those kids in athens in athens county no-go home to not a lot of food on the table hungry after school. You guys can be up here to. And as you mentioned he was one of two bengals. Who spoke on behalf of the team in the midst of george floyd aftermath. Not to overstate what he's doing here. But you see. Joe burrow moving into a space where he's becoming a voice for issues outside of football. Yeah he has that voice you know and he was one of the first players to send a tweet in the aftermath of george floyd and he was one of the first voices to not be afraid to go out there and he doesn't speak often but when he does it's very much calculated and it's very much to be that voice to push ahead change. We cannot turn a blind eye to the racism still experienced in this country. This is not an issue of politics but a fight for equality in life. And i think that's a maturity beyond his years for a guy who's about to turn twenty four who has a lot on his plate already by the way he's just kinda got that it about him that way. He's not afraid of that. I've got to ask you about something. He said in an interview last week where he talked about being scared of everything as a kid and even being scared of some things as an adult. I still don't like scary movies. I like haunted houses or anything like that. But i couldn't watch harry potter. What are the rings house. I was like strictly spongebob. disney channel. Nickelodeon kinda guy. Yeah i mean it was a noxious question about what do you watch during the bye week and sort of pointed out you know. The few shows that he washington he was scared of house and it was like why. What is their scary about. How he's he's kind of scared of a lot of tv shows are scared. Why you watch spongebob. He has had a very open comfortable relationship with his love. Spongebob as he's come up and it's sort of it's part of this like genuine fabric of who this guy is like. He's all these things he talked about. You talk about. Somebody's big picture of face of the franchise and leader. He's also has this stuff where he's just like this average guy just kinda loves. Spongebob and doesn't like scary movies. And and i think that's what makes him so relatable to players and why players seem to gravitate towards him is just that type of stuff he never gives the feeling of being anything other than a regular guy and very genuine hardworking dude in nature. Finally paul joe burrow as part of a class of really highly touted young quarterbacks that we've got this year a little over halfway through their freshman year is joe burrow at the top of that class. He's one of two right. Think if you go by vegas. It's about even odds between justin. Herbert and joe burrow right now. And we'll see what happens with to down in miami but the offensive rookie of the year is going to be a fun thing to watch the second half. Because herbert and borough both are on teams haven't won a bunch but have both played really. Well i think whoever finds a way to continue to play well but also win some games down. The stretch might be the guy who ends up with that rookie of the year. Thank you so much for joining us. Paul my pleasure. You can follow. Paul dana juniors coverage of the cincinnati bengals and. Check out his podcast. Here that podcast brolin at the athletic dot com from wondering athletics. I'm could.
"joe burrow" Discussed on The Lead
"Pace to have one of the most prolific seasons and set a record for most three hundred yard game talk. This bagels are just keeps a job. I mean anything about the bengals. Has joe burrow's face on. They had leaned hard into job. Romania themselves and owned it. He's the face of their franchise. They're not really running from it. I mean the fans have not loved somebody like this in cincinnati. You have to go back to prime. Heyday chad johnson. Ocho cinco to find somebody. This is probably surpass that that is just been universally loved and brought an actual wave of momentum for a franchise. It's just a few of those. You've still got a guy that has struggled against a couple of the elite defenses in the north for looking the other way from behind and the ball is loose klutzy. He comes up with at baltimore. Says they had it the steelers and the ravens supplied some struggles for him. He back at the thirty three yard but he's bounced back the three weeks before they play the steelers. They're averaging three point two nine points per drive which was second in the nfl. I mean that was what you've seen. A lot with him is response to adversity and resiliency in that is his worst game in baltimore's followed by a string of his three best. And that's kind of been a common thread throughout his entire rookie years. Yeah he's had his rough moments but the bounceback has been incredibly impressive. We'll paul you recently. Spoke with the bengals. Coaching staff about some of the more impressive plays that joe burrow has made the season i wanted to ask you about one of those plays in particular week. Eight against the titans. Can you describe what happens in this play. And what head coach. Doc taylor had to say about it she. That play was a third and nine and that could have been the play. The tennessee needed sees tyler boyd running across his face in front of him but he's getting held running one way. We stuck in a vice grip of this cornerback. Borough is being rushed at all sides and then all of a sudden decide. You know what the only way i can do. This is float this ball behind. Boyd and hope he pulls out of it to have the idea that i can avoid the sacked by floating it and then all of a sudden he does in the ball. Hits him. Razzie turns around for borough first of all throw it. I don't even know why he threw it for boy to just turn around and all the sudden. The ball's in your hands incredible. you know. Talk to coach. Zac taylor about this. And he said this is like backyard football one. Oh one only do this. You're so comfortable in your own backyard playing with your friends. Like i'm just gonna rightous and that's really what he does. I just like have such an appreciation for that confidence to throw that ball. Instead of just taking a sack of people probably would not something you should ever expect of a guy in the first half of his rookie season that oh by the way also came without a real off or any. Preseason one of some of the other members of the bengals coaching staff told you about joe burrow and just what makes him so special really. It's it's the fact that you can come in and be a leader immediately. And i thought to special teams coordinator. Darrin simmons about this and darren. Simmons has been here since he's been here forever. He pointed out that this guy. He was a leader from day. Daiwa a captain in year one. The teammates vote on rookie players. They're so worried that there's so worried about. They don't wanna come in and upset the balance of the team or a rookie. It's this aventure locker room. I think is the different situation. I think team was looking for somebody to lead them. And this guy is coming done that and just this guy walks in the building with steely look on his face never changes. They gave a speech a written statement about social justice conversations. They had when all of that was going on in august. It is each of our responsibility to affect change in our communities. Not only for us but for those yet to come. They chose their rookie quarterback to be one of the two players to stand in front of the freedom center in downtown cincinnati. And speak if this nation is to ever reach the goals that has promised to its citizens we must be catalyst for change that speaks volumes about how he's viewed how they see him as leader in his ability to be a leader and that was the type of thing that this franchise has so badly needed. The bengals have not great this season but they're also quite young. Does it feel like they have the pieces. They're putting something in place for the future. It feels like they're a player cycle way. It feels like they need another offseason updraft and develop and some of you free agents in these last two rookie classes taking the next steps that you expect him to take most notably joe burrow and then they'll be in the conversation right now. They're not right now. They're playing to the level that they're at you hope that for them. The second half of the season is joe burrow continuing to evolve and them starting to finally win games that makes everyone believe that cincinnati is not only going to be good next year but a place that those free agents they hope to get will want to come and play and see it as the next emerging young team with the next emerging young quarterback. Chad Ochocinco, Carson Palmer meet in Idaho
"What's the story of chaired junk Ken Johnson and, of course in Palma, reuniting What a great sight to see. With Chad heading up the Idaho visit with Carson for awhile, just Oh, my goodness. The amount of content that they were putting out was just so entertaining, but I mean, obviously, we got to start with the fact that they had a video chatted with Joe Burrow and tea. Higgins congratulating them. I'm getting their first win in the N F l. I just thought that was absolutely phenomenal on their part. You want to go to those lengths to show to give them their congratulations and kind of like welcoming them into the league and and really highlighting their first W together, right? That's

I was walking around the field eight lane kiffin before the game on Saturday and I saw this dude just bomb and punts. And I walked over there and I was like man look at this thing. The. Young Man's name is Jeremy Crawl. Shell. He's an Australian Punter for Florida. And he has some serious plumage. It's a work of art I mean he would flip his head and it would be A. Nice bounce to it. And walked over to and Shayne Graham, who was the Great Virginia Tech Kicker and played for. I don't know how many NFL teams Shane was in the NFL as a kicker forever. He's now working with the kicking unit at Florida. And Shane and I go back to our youth he grew up in Pulaski County I, grew up in Giles County Shane and I grew up about Twenty five miles from each other. And And Shane came over and I said how about that news plumage He goes yeah, man. So I learned that that Crawshaw Australian. and. I thought okay he's the blooming onion best. The blooming onion. That's what we're going to call his mullet. Well, I put that on twitter and my boy Jim done away from the jocks roundtable down in Birmingham Alabama. I just did their show right before Travis started taping here by the way. He said the booming onion. It's the booming onions. That's what we're calling across shells mullet. So we haven't done around the tedious. Ole Miss has tied in. Chase Rogers. Chases from the Magnolia State. And so we're going to call his mullet the Magnolia Blossom. and. This thing was awesome I. "Was saving his lost like twenty eight assistance to Dabbagh to right. Point they have that continuity. The continuity that comes with the consistency of the staff. And not only that when that happens, it's also will gather recruited bear. In Alabama, the gather recruited you is. And yet Alabama churns out pro after pro after pro after pro after pro. You know when you step in the doors at University of Alabama, you're getting prepared to be an NFL player. It's so impressive. and. So like back to the rankings thing I got Alabama one, I would put Ohio state too and that's saying something when Trevor Lawrence. And Travis E. T. in. And Josephine gotTA and Frank Lads in all those dudes down there in Clemson. Are doing what they're doing I think clemson's under appreciated. Because it's legit like L., they have the best player in college football guy they're supposed to do this. This is supposed to be easy for them. It's not easy. It's not easy. Sustaining greatness is not easy because of exactly what we just said. In Davos the same way. They reload they contain what he has built their. His awesome. I. Think I said this last week about Jeff Collins? There are taking their lumps right now, Georgia Tech's taken their lumps but I see. In Jeff Collins the opportunity. With recruiting in in the in the momentum that they're building their, they got a couple of really good players in there who fret true freshman. I, feel that energy. and that energy hard to sustain when you're getting beat. But I remember when dad did and now look what he's built. One of the three programs in college football..

"To him for doing that. Not I mean. That's what kids are doing nowadays as they're transferring high school then he could have done it in college and he. It out and I think he's showing people that. If you work hard your time will come in to the command that he had of that offense on. Saturday was phenomenal. Just just tremendous and and you know he threw for four hundred sixteen yards and six touchdowns. And and you're looking at, you're looking at a guy who in my opinion is going to have joe borough type of season. And the reason that I feel like. He has the opportunity to have Joe. Borough type of season is that command of the offense that Travis was just mentioning? I mean it's just it's just amazing to watch when someone is that that comfortable. And they're that comfortable because they're that well prepared and they do have such a tremendous understanding of where the football needs to go. And he also has so many unbelievable weapons. At his disposal starting with Kyle Pitts who is listed as a tight end, but he's one of the most dynamic weapons. In all of college football, he's a match up nightmare. He had eight catches for one hundred, seventy yards and four touchdowns and could have been way worse. Ole Miss had nobody who could cover him and after the game. I ask, Kyle trask broadcast how wonderful is it to have that gotta throw the football too I mean it's a safety blanket is a dynamic athlete. It's an unguardable force. and. He said he's too fast for linebackers and too big for DB's and nobody out there really has a chance six, six to forty. That's. Called Football. You don't have too many defenders out there that can go against that in fast and agile and runs good routes and it was funny in talking to Dan Mullen before the game. That pits has a chip on a shoulder this year because he was disappointed that he wasn't considered for the mackey award last year, which goes to the best end in college football. And the reason that he was not. Considered for the mackey award was because he didn't have his hand in the dirt enough. He didn't line up with his hand in dirt at tight end specifically. Enough I guess that's part of the criteria for the mackey award. which might need to be altered in today's college football because. The offensive changed a little bit since nineteen, eighty eight. And Anyway. So pits made it like look I'm going to block this year I'm GONNA put my hand in dirt and play school football and show these guys on the best in the country he definitely put everybody on blast the whole world's own notice after what he did in Oxford on Saturday.

"It was a crazy week in college football I was in Oxford Mississippi. For the Florida gators and the Ole Miss Rebels, I was thoroughly impressed with Florida offensively cal trask. Most of you guys know his story by now. He was a lifetime backup and he actually told me that the word backup pissed him off. Because he didn't feel like it was the right term for the way that he prepared for the Games. He said that I know most teams will tell you that they prepare all their quarterbacks like starters, I? Don't know if that's true but I know what's true and that's the I prepared every single day like the team was my team. And it just so happened that in high school in Mandeville Manville Texas. He sat behind a quarterback that was a better fit for that particular offense of system that they ran at manual high school. And that quarterback that was a better fit was dear, King. Who is currently tearing college football for the Miami Hurricanes as their quarterback the you is back. Rather than leave cal Trask told me Travis that people around him and other coaches in and other folks told him. You could transfer to basically any other high school in the country and be starter. But he was like, nope we don't run away just because we're not the starter. We work hard. We try to win the job where we are I was born in Manville Texas. I'm staying in Mammal Texas. I'm going to be at this high school even if Eric is the right guy to run this offense right now. Kudos.
Literal Jock Sniffer - Season 3, Episode 4 - burst 1
"Question. How did he do? Okay. So here's the thing about Joe Brown. This is why I think you like him so much. Oh, it's a really great quarterback that just plays hockey team. So he's like your deck Prescott your a bitch. I thought you were like the light bulb in my head went off last night when I was watching it. I was like, well, he's a good little quarterback like Dak Prescott. He just plays for no wonder Jasmine likes them so much. By the way, I have you know you Optimus Prime Don the word shity so it cut out on you said shity team. That's all right. I show you going to say that we were going to like look we could be an item now. I'm just disappointed. Oh, I'm sorry. Now he's to you guys wouldn't match very well. He's back to blonde hair doughy eyed, you know, he still has his dreams and happiness. I was just that his way too innocent for you. You know, you just strip him of all of it off. I would fare. I tend to do this with all men though. Let's be real I tend to slowly take away their hopes dreams, you know their desk for Life their happiness any kind of happiness life. It's it's what I do to all the men that are in my life. Okay, so so that's your analysis which fuck off so that's no that's my analysis regards to jobber. Okay, my analysis in regards to the Browns. All right. Here's the thing about the Browns obj less. Always he had headlines Amy. Okay. This team has a boss ass offense page. There is no reason why they shouldn't be scoring touchdowns all the fucking time. I mean think about the players that they have Nick Chubb Fremont who both went off last night Jarvis Landry. I mean you couldn't get you can get that is a fantasy leagues dream right here, right? Yep. There is no reason why this team shouldn't be amazing because you know what their defense is really cool. Good to this team should be really competitive and making the playoffs and they're not understand now Grandma, who knows what's going to happen tell you what happened last night watching this game Baker Mayfield just he changed into a different person. Like when he like a human in a good way in a good way when he came off the field. He didn't go and sit down on the bench. He stood on the sidelines and watched his defense playing and then he I mean he rallied those guys. He was not going down to Joe burrow. I mean, you could totally he's like, there's no fucking way. This guy's going to show me up and there's no way I'm losing to the fucking bangles and you know what he totally carried his team. He really truly did stepped up it was offensive. Now if they can do that every single weekend this team is really like it has all the weapons that it takes to be a fantastic team which made me. Made me Ponder the fact that there's some teams that you just expect to lose and then there's some teams that you expect to win like the team's you expect to when you expect the steel real attacks right now. You expect the Cal you expect to win. You don't expect the Lions or the Bangles or the Browns. I mean the low-hanging fruit, you know, you don't expect those teams to win. So when they have when they have rosters long, the Browns have their own turning into a team that you they should be winning with what they have. So it sounds to me that the Browns are basically like if you're looking at it from a fantasy league point, it's the guy in league who basically cheese his way to get the best team because everybody else is internet either sucked or they were on auto draft or they forgot there was a draft right? That's the guy in the if you're equating it to a fantasy team roster birth. Okay. Number one. I liked it. You know I prematurely said shut up about the Cowboys cuz I thought you were going to say that you expect them to lose and I like that you're saying that you expect them to win because that's what you do you absolutely suck. Oh you that's what we do problem. That's where we are a we are an elite Lord team. Anyway, that's what you're going with I am. Well, I don't know the baker Mayfield is still a shitstain to me so good for him rallying his team. He's still a shitstain. I do love his Progressive commercials their home like the latest one. Yes. They are the latest one where he's like. Oh, it's getting ready to rain. Help me cover the furniture. And two guys like you mean the stance he's really good in those commercials. If you could only be as good a quarter as he is in those commercials. We would be set the dog pound would be set. Well, we are you a dog pound or now. I mean, I you know, I have a soft spot for the Browns just cuz they always lose. And ever since that movie came out draft day with Kevin Costner yet. Oh, I'm out. I'm done with you. done with you Amy. Your brown spot is showing. I know I know you know, I just I'm weird that way I don't understand it. Either it is I don't either try to figure you out every day and I just you know, I do too and since I'm like, oh I get myself today and then sometimes I'm like now he's nope don't understand myself today, but that's okay. That's most of us as well. Amy. So rest assured you're not in Company by yourself. I think it is twenty-twenty it is. Okay. Well that's sad because now Joe burrow Hollow be his name Falls 200 and two. Yeah, it does and but you know what this guy he's he's a good quarterback. He is is there he should be in his helmet I think time to get mr. Guys. Sometimes he tries to carry his offense which isn't great because then he gets pummeled by pencil like he got pummeled last night several times. Well, you sure. Why does LSU brain sure what he's trying to win? And I totally get it. But at the same time he needs careful because you know, oh, he's a starting quarterback in the NFL. Well getting them know and you just see a lot of what he was doing at LSU that worked and I think you know like every rookie has this learning curve right where you come out transition from college to the big leagues and it's like, oh, okay, it's funny cuz I was like really different style of football right? I said to Bruce last night. I'm like, surprised that they just threw this guy in the deep end. I mean they just started. Oh totally, I mean, they didn't granted he dangles. What else do they have? I'm. That's the problem. They don't have anything else but you know like places in my where to get backing up Fitzpatrick that makes sense. It makes sense for him to kind of, you know way into the NFL same thing with Dwayne Haskins, you know, he he was back up for a while until he kind of learned his name. Yeah, now Joe girl, man. They just threw him in the deep and they're like here you go, bro, you go bu. Yeah. Well, you know what gotta he is trying I mean, he's playing his ass off out there. No he is but he is and that's why I'm like super team Joe burrow like we gotta do this man. Like I'm telling you. It's the stogie. We'll do it get this guy that mean that you're a Bengals fan know how fucking no. No, I like. Oh bji in a Browns fan. I like Joe burrow Ina Bengals fan, you know, I will always bleed silver and blue Amy. That's the only color I would leave home. Anyway, let's move on to the Chiefs. Okay, love us and Pat Mahomes you love some Andy Reid do that cheaper mofo back, right? So Andy Reid's big old windshield mask that he had on. When was it last week? I can't remember. Yeah. We're only in week to segregated windshield wipers. Yeah, so people were like what the hell and so like it was fogging up. You couldn't see shit, but this may be a thing. This may be a thing coming to a coach near you because off on the first Sunday of the NFL season when this happened several coaches were seen either one not wearing masks or to not wearing them properly because the mask police were out and the league is not going to stand for that. It's currently vice president of football operations. Troy Vincent issued a memo this week saying protocol requires all individuals with bench area access including coaches and members of the club medical staff to wear face coverings at all times failure to adhere this requirement will result in accountability measures being imposed against offending individuals and or clubs. However, Amy, there is no word on what those accountability measures will be so that to me that phrase is what kind of sticks out to me. What does that mean? do you do find them? Probably I mean you can look dead. Here's the thing. They're coaching on the sidelines of talking into Mike's they have to be able bird they have to be able understood. It's really hard for all of the to happen on your face plus all these guys are around each other all the time. They're all you know, I practiced together around the field. They're hitting each other all in each other's faces, you know, I mean and how many people have tested positive since the start of season one? Yeah. They did a very good 2700 players so very good job with with that right off because like you said, they've been implementing measures. They've been following the rules, you know, they've been testing a lot, you know, we got into this, you know leading into this actual season. Jeez, how many coronavirus updates that we talked about on this podcast about hey, this is what the League's doing. This is what they're making them do kind of thing. So something is clearly working. It's really great to see that that's positive news that you know that they're only seeing that wage. Chat, I think I that they should I really think they should go with a handy read mask to be quite honest can still see the coaches face. The microphone can kind of be up underneath it. So they may be able to understand what the coaches saying and and you're shielded. You know, when somebody comes up to your face, you know, I mean, think that that's fine but having to wear them like when it's just, you know covering your face in your nose again, like it's hard for me to understand people when they're wearing a mask and talking to me. Yes, I mean, so imagine imagine being on the field the quarterback coaches saying the guys in booth coordinators up in the booth are trying to understand what the guys on the field coordinators on the field are trying to say, I mean, it's just it's a it's crazy. So it's a shitshow you gotta be able to walk. You gotta be able to your job. I would take that looking like I've got the windshield of a Camry in front of my face the whole time vs Lee having something on my mouth cuz that's frustrating me. Yeah. Give me the telephone number. Windshield all day long over the you know, suffocating face masks which by the way speaking of Tesla. Did you see that their reports of some them being janky like getting like parts that were like really cheap shity on some of the Tesla's that were falling apart marvelous. I know so yet twenty-twenty doesn't happen. Just wanted to put that in there for you. All right coming up next in offsides, you know fall like we said is upon us. Okay one smells like a Nachos not bad and one

"At him. Saying what more do I have to do to get paid from the Dallas cowboys. So I totally agree what Dak Prescott is doing. Is it a big deal? I only have a few seconds here but some might look at this and say they're not even in the building it's online stuff it's voluntary. Is it a big deal? What they can take some of the staying out of there because you're not physically in the building but it sends a signal like listen. I Want my money. I'm not playing about this contract right now. I it feels like it's a big deal. And it feels like it's not stopping in Dallas which I think confuses a lot of people it certainly confuses me guys hang on. We'll have more to do. He'll suck about another quarterback and Joe Burrow. He will hear his name called. We assume I a week from tomorrow night when the Bengals make him. The top pick in the draft was interviewed on the radio in Baton Rouge yesterday and he was asked about the prospect of playing for a franchise that hasn't had a lot of success in recent times. The draft is funny. Because you don't have you know not a lot of professions. Get the pick you so whatever team I go to. It's going to be a challenge. The beginning I'M GONNA have to persevere through it and just like I've done in the past. You might have a really good first year. You might have really bad first year. You don't really know Especially Without Ota's this year and you're gonNA have less time with your team So there's going to be ups and downs for sure. You're just GONNA have to battle through I Laura and Mallard both back with us again here and look at the teams. Get the first pick in the draft. A reason bro. His stepping into a situation where they've been doing a lot of losing. You Know Him. Well what can you tell us about his mental makeup inability to handle that things are important here? Greenie? He's been through a lot already at a relatively young age although he's still older than some quarterbacks that are currently playing in the NFL he was trying to get the starting job at Ohio. State didn't get. It was given an opportunity to transfer for himself and he took that and then went into an environment at Lsu. They want not a quarterbacks to seed in years and they could not beat Alabama and not only does he succeed have massive success after a great first season at Lsu bike these standards but then he goes on and he shows that he can beat Alabama. He shows that you can go to Tuscaloosa his teammates carrying him on their shoulders. That was what Joe did in a very short period of time at Lsu. And I think it's showing how he can rally a group of young men that's what will need to do with older men. At the next level he has that type of it factor that allows people to gravitate to him no matter. What's going on the other point that I think important here? He's a kid from southeast Ohio. Think you'll be given a little bit more leeway in the eyes of Bengals fans for what they expect out of him. What is going to be expected early on? Might be a little bit less of what it would be if he was somebody who was considered you know an outsider instead of just. They're almost young son that they look at with Joe Borough. He's IT Ohio kid coming back. Home people are GonNa like that story. I think advise them a little bit of time to have some success. Maybe limit some of the adversity that he here's from the outside noise standpoint and he's built up a lot of goodwill with some of the things that he's done off the field there as well. I agree let me ask you. It feels like when we talk about this pick and this draft. It almost feels like people are positioning. This borough is being set up to fail in Cincinnati. What do you think of that perspective? I'm disgusted by it. Greenie it makes me sick and I've been screaming about this for months here. This garbage all about the bengals and it's the horrible place to go. It's awful you got no chance for a quarterback success. What are you dreaming? Just throw.

"If it were my son and he were financially set or didn't need it. No We'd be done. I want him to be done. We throw in the towel But at the same time I don't know how much of Jordan reap concussion. Protocol might have been some anxiety about future concussion and so if he can get past constantly fearing the next concussion then I think he could play and I also think he really would have to rethink the way. He runs with the ball after the catch. Because he's the guy that puts his head down on contact and so that's something he would really have to think about. Changing is not lowering your head on contact. When you're getting tackled go down that kind of thing. And you don't want him to become with Mo Harris two years ago who just hit the ground every time he got the ball. I don't want to take that out of note will Ryan Grant Fall Down Guy now. Mohair was the guy or Ryan grant remember fell down after he caught every pass. No Ryan grant fell down when he was running the routes in mowers just felt that after he caught the ball. Yeah okay that that. I'm I know I'm right on. You said something there that seems totally intuitive and logical and understandable. And that is when you've had that many concussions may be it only takes one and then just the fear of having another one But can you be in in concussion? Protocol just for know being hesitant and being fearful of getting another concussion. That's not concussion. Protocol right now. You can't but there could be some symptoms or to be fair and I don't know how Jordan feels or what Jordan gone through and so I'm just GonNa say there could be some hypochondria that goes into coming out a concussion protocol like you could maybe sent the headache every once in a while which would then put you back into concussion. Protocol period of time they may have said to Jordan. We're not going to check you. We're not GONNA do a concussion protocol until February. So don't even worry about. Ah Check you again in six months and my I don't Jordan left for a while this season so I don't know if anyone was even checking him to clear him from the Concussion Protocol when the irs him there was no necessity clear him from the concussion protocol..

"Listen last week stunk you wanted to. Why it stunk dunk? Because we went chalk and we were locked in and we made the same picks. I have a feeling we're going to go down the same road here with our picks pollock because some of these games are just. They're not good. They're not good. But we'RE GONNA WE'RE GONNA figure it out right okay. Let's let's start off with am a an versus Georgia who you got in this one. I tell you what I am. I'm going Georgia and I think you are too but I think am has a chance to make this very competitive additive physical enough on the defensive line I think Kellyn Mons athletic ability playing better the last several games his athletic ability could give Georgia some problems but Georgia's defense has just been so good man so lights out so it's hard to hard to pick against Georgia's defense but I think Georgia at home home. That's a big deal to whether than having to go to college station. I think Georgia at home wins and Jake. It's interesting man if you look at the last couple of Games Kevin. It's it's been a hundred yards passing hundred something yards passing but you know what he continues to you. Know he hasn't done since the South Carolina game hasn't thrown one interception. And that's the difference. He takes care of the football and doesn't make a lot of mistakes and doesn't doesn't put his defense in a bad spot so I don't think he'll put up stupid video game numbers but it'll take care of the football all and Georgia will win the game and isn't that a philosophy of Kirby's to where it's just like hey play well you we're not asking you to do too much here. It feels like like He. Jake lead us. But we're going to also be very smart on how we're going to play offensively we're GONNA take a lot of risks is interesting from Kirby and his philosophy. Yeah and and listen. I think it's I think it's something that works for them because their defense is so good. But I don't think you can beat Lsu that. I think you're going to have to do. I think you're going to have to open up more and and take more chances but you know he's not a kid that has had to throw the ball a ton but you know if he's also just hasn't been really really fishing but the one thing he's done not only not throwing interceptions when they put drives together gather Kevin. He's done a good job of getting in the end zone last week. They didn't put a lot of drives together Auburn but they put they put the ball in the end zone. He he made great plays in the red area to throw the football into a tight window or two and make plays in score. And that's that's the biggest thing is the numbers like one hundred ten yards against Auburn but he had three touchdowns and no interceptions one hundred seventy yards against Missouri into in two. TV's no interceptions. So it's not it's not it's not going to be pretty. It's not gonna be really sexy but we also know that Jake problems going to have to get a lot hotter down the stretch if he wants to beat Lsu and he's going to have to make more plays be efficient smart and then on the other side and they've won four straight but you look at the competition. They've beaten the teams. They have to beat after playing teams like Clemson Auburn Alabama early on in their final two games are Georgia and Lsu. So how stupid is that man. I mean it's ridiculous it's ridiculous. There's there's no team in the Auburn is another team that if you look at them and if they played an organ type schedule up into at this point there's a good chance album we'll be defeated. I mean the schedule but the schedule they play is just absolutely crazy. It's it's unbelievable Kelham on against instead Georgia defense is GonNa be fun to watch. I think he'll make plays I think he'll score some points. Well you know what that does is that that'll help that. Georgia defense get get ready for Joe Borough the following week. I'm not saying I'm just saying that what you said. That's what you're saying uniform after you after you play old Miss Mississippi State. UTSA and South Carolina. Georgia gets the opportunity. Well you know I'm I'm talking about. Am Georgia gets the opportunity now to to you. See in offense to get them prepare. And when you look at Georgia's offense and what they've done they're going to have to find a way where they can match Lsu up and they're coming out that Auburn game that coming off the Missouri game that coming up with Florida game. I think I think they're gonNA three tough games in a row for sure that's a tough gauntlet gauntlet. And what's coming down the road. Now what did you just can't what did you just do. You just held up the SEC. Sign and you know you're going to play in the SEC championship game. You know you have all of that going against you that you and Kirby's word is respect you know he's always like respect. The opponent respect the opponent. And if you don't respect and if they don't play really well though loose and that's that's not a good thing 'cause am seven three the having beaten much but they've also there are only three losses have been against. I mean they're the only team that played Clemson clemson competitive to remember was fourteen. Point game was a good game so wasn't wasn't a beatdown by any stretch but also that was a completely different clubs and team right. I think you and I can agree on that. They they have woken up offensively their last four games. Let's continue here. This is going to be an interesting game because you saw them them live and we just talked about Texas earlier on the podcast but Texas now at Baylor the line is five and a half favoring the bears who you got I'll take Baylor first of all I got. I got to save some of this. Because I'M GONNA WE'RE GONNA talk about this game. I got some really really good stuff to talk talk about with Texas but so I'm trying not to. I'm trying not to just go off right now. Baylor's better. This is like Iowa state last week when I watched I I was state and I and I watched those two teams thought I will state was better now. Iowa state finds a way to lose close games like nobody's business. I mean they're really good but I think Baylor's a better team Baylor's defense can can stay consistent. Their offense again is going to be different but it. Maybe maybe with brewer in all the running ability like you continue to use that and mems hits a few big plays and and But I think Baylor has an opportunity if this was a different situation. If this wasn't Texas coming in off of a big letdown. I think this could be a bad spot for Baylor. But it's Texas coming in Texas. All these kids wanted to go to Texas grew up point high school football and didn't recruit Abreu e brewer whose family played at Texas and he wasn't invited to the party. Marty you know Charlie brewer. So I think I think Baylor will be ready. I think Baylor's offense will play a little bit more consistent especially against Texas defense. That's struggling and I think Baylor won a game You know and also the idea that Baylor's big dreams are still playing in the big twelve championship game so that they've got a lot at stake. Here I gotTa Tell You I was was leaning Texas and you. You've convinced me to go with Baylor. Oh no Texas we need different. I don't know I think going Baylor just because also you're holding back some mm-hmm information about Texas that you're GONNA put on the Game Day Broadcast and you're here on the podcast. You'RE GONNA love is I'm GonNa love it. You're going to love it. I'M GONNA go with Baylor's well and that's that's the metro factor for me so I'm going to Baylor and you've convinced me as well. I think we're GONNA be really boring. Here let's go the uniform game. Ucla a USC is this a slam dunk. Moore's his chip going to surprise us. I like the uniform game. I like that you know. Listen I I think as much as Ucla built back some credence. With a big win over Colorado and Arizona State and Stamford and look that lose to Oregon State before that I think but last week was come down to Earth one it was. It was really really bad. Forty nine to three against Utah. Utah just absolutely destroyed them and dismantled them. I'll take USC. I think slow. This is going to be by the way slowest. I think is going to be top quarterback in college football. I think he's I think he really. He does a great. I think he's really accurate he. He's a loose cannon. If you watch him he's just he's absolutely a loose cannon. He doesn't he doesn't take care of the football and he drives me nuts with aspect and he needs to understand situational football a lot better but when you talk about a guy that knows how to attack defenses and go after them and score and win and put the ball accurately really. I think he's really really good. quarterback play to me the difference for USC and UC. One is the reason why slow. This is like that now. Because he's just a true freshman. I mean he's just inexperienced and the belief that I could do all things right now is that does that play the lack of maintenance. Well maybe but he could easily have been been like that his whole life and trusted himself to make plays and I don't know even even when you're inexperienced you have to have to understand the gratitude of moments in against Oregon and when I'm in the red zone and and I'm running the football and I'm stretching it out trying to go to the end zone when I down that's stupid. That doesn't make any sense trying to fit the ball in tight windows when I need to understand the gratitude of the moment I gotta get points. I can't create turnovers in certain areas. But if you're talking about just spending the ball to somebody accurately. He's really really good at that. It's just in the sticky moments a lot of times. He's trying to do too much and trying to scramble around and do too much and he cost his team so I think you can learn. Learn from that and be more comfortable in those situations but I wouldn't be surprised if he's one of those guys his whole career that's got a little gunslinger. You know. I'm with you I go with you and and our next game. We'll go to the American Navy I. I don't know what happened in South Bend because I was expecting a much better game tighter game and Notre Dame just just say we're going to do whatever we want to expect on thirty eight to three and like the second quarter or something like that. I mean I think everybody Razi crazy nuts and now taking on Smu a navy's favourite in this game and I'll be the first to make the pick their favored by three and a half. I'm going with. SMU On the road really really disagree. Disagree strongly this is good we have we have our our I disagree. I don't I I feel very confident in Navy. I feel very confident navy because last last year they shredded SMU SMU the past couple of weeks. They've given up over fifty the last two games they give up over fifty to. Ecu Okay Ecu's not Lincoln. Dan Rather not there anymore. By the way just in case you not a good defense I just I don't. I don't trust them enough. Would they do well. They attacked the quarterback. And one of the best at getting the quarterbacks and sacks have have you seen navy drawback to pass off so they don't do that what they know and Navy's Navy's defense is one of the most improved unison..

"Now here's here's your host Kevin the Gandhi well. The traveling man is Back Waco to Athens to Bristol to New York City to Columbus in sixteen ext as David Poet. Back with us here in the college football podcast with Herbie in politics so d. Do you like to travel DP. No I mean who does I think. Listen I don't like to come home and put my kids to bed. And that's the only time I see him when I put them to bed and then leave again so not a huge fan of all the travel but manage this time of year but it is closing time and everybody's excited. The rankings are getting closer and closer. The Championship Games are getting closer. Sern closer and so there's more talk about more substance which is which is a lot of fun but you you sound the the Voices Week Godfather the voices. We may go barry. Mary White I made just call from the middle of this podcast. I'm the last man standing in my house. it's gone through her body and my wife. Yup and I was standing tall guys. I was standing tall and It eventually got to me. So I'm sucking down on a bunch of honey and cough drops in T- what we've got a podcast the tape and it's and it's one hundred percent worth it because we missed you on Wednesday and when we missed you on Wednesday we still made insured carriers spirit because we had reese on the last. podcast Reese Davis and upgrade. Yeah he called you the little brother he never wished for four and I I like that reese is. He's one of the best human beings I've ever met. He's he's my best friend on the road for sure GONNA spend a ton of time with him. And just I mean that Alabama boy that treats everybody with respect and I've never seen him lose one time by the way like literally in all my I years working with them never seen him get upset at somebody or treat anybody disrespectfully. He's just he's a southern southern gentleman through through. He's the best and you know I. I didn't and share this with him but I look up to the guy. There's a lot of anchors that you know you Kinda you as a player I'm sure you modeled yourself after somebody. I one of those guys that I came in the ESPN two thousand six and Research already here for eleven years and he was a guy that I was like. That's the man I want to model my career after so it was great having them on the podcast. So you're doing horrible keeping up door to tear job at least caring shadow here. You know we. We got him into the conversation about the DAD. Bod`ed comment that you made out of. Everybody knew that you did not kill him into changing his diaper. Just happened that way that Yeah Yeah Yeah you could say that all you you can say you could say that all you want rescan recent come on here and say whatever he wants he has has the right to but there's been a big change. The eating habits have shifted. And he's not he's not by far psychotic but they've shifted and it's definitely the in a better direction. So he can. He can give credit to whomever he wants. I'm just glad he did it. I don't care. The DAD was out in full effect and it was not a good look. So I'm glad it's changed in your Mr Guilt trip with everybody on the Game Day crew. According to reese when it comes to guilt trip I just I try to help people. I don't do it in a malicious manner. But you know I I mean you just gotTa realize. Sometimes when we're just sitting there stuffing our face aimlessly. We we do that. I mean we just sit there and do it and doing what are we doing here like. Let's let's put those away. It's the temptation of staring at the table of all the snacks. That's what I know that you should have seen the table Kevin when I got there when I got there there. I don't even know what year I guess eight or nine years ago for College Game Day and I started it was nothing but sweets and chips and just straight trash. I mean it was. I literally told him I was like. Do we have anything remotely healthy. And now it's really evolved in the candy's gone in the trash is gone and it's you know it's baked chips and and it's coffee up there but there's fruit of their every single meal. It's it's we have egg whites in the mornings on Saturdays like it's definitely upgraded menu. We've done a much better job taking care of taking care of ourselves so you guilt trip. Everybody that's what you did like. He's guilt trip all the coordinators production coordinators that bringing the food made them think about. How important is of what you put in your body? That's what I've done. Let's talk about the Game Day experience. At least the last last one in Waco. You're next PAT McAfee. Did you know he was about to dive into the shallow water. Yes I did. What what did you tell him to talk to him like like? Wow did this all play out I I. I don't think pat really cares about much so I don't don't think it matters. No but he knew what was going on. We knew what was going on. We we had. Obviously we talked about it so it was it was it was a crazy moment and he he sold it full belly flop. It was amazing. At what point did you did you side. Say Yo Bro. Just be careful or you're like go ahead that'd be knuckle no no no go ahead and do it. That's that's role is man. He's a pat. Pat is a free spirit and he will do anything I think at any time and you can see. He's just just he's absolutely wack job. It's awesome it's awesome. Personality is is awesome so naive. There's no I don't think it's going to do something. I don't think there's anybody that's GonNa talk him out of it. It's great and no one stands a crowd better right. Oh yeah he's good at it. He gives you guys a lot of wow moments. I also WANNA remind everybody here. If you I have a question you want to hear a on the podcast Herbie or pollock tweet using the Hash Tag. CFP pod. We've got a couple of questions coming your way scenarios which I I'm kind of interested in in some scenarios that you forecast down the road before we get to that bill. Did the committee get it right on Tuesday night. Then I'm GonNa give you the same response. They give you every week. Sure it does. I mean it doesn't matter I like what Rodman said. He said he kept Alabama at at five because they they dominated the game they looked really good. I think it'll be interesting. Monitoring going forward if they feel the same way now with a change of quarterback because now it's official member two week by week thing thing into a plate last week and dominated and so it kind of put Alabama that spot Alabama is the only one really when you look at the top seven teams go. There's not anything they can do to really. WOW HE OREGON UTAH. Six or seven are going to play each other and have a huge opportunity to win a conference championship. Alabama does not Georgia's GonNa play Lsu with chew huge chance to win a conference championship. Ohio states can probably play. They're gonNA play Penn state this week and they're going to play in the big ten championship game opportunities. Everybody has huge huge opportunities in front of them except Alabama. So they're at five right now but it doesn't feel like it's a stable situation for them it doesn't feel like it's just a Georgia loses the AFC championship game. Slide Bam up. I don't think if you think that way I don't think it's I don't think it's correct. You're the type of guy and I could be wrong making this assumption that you you look at. Hey whatever plays out on the field. That's how I determine things I don't do the metrics I don't do. Hey the roster or look at how much talent is there and I bring that up because the head to head conversation where you see penn state two spots ahead of Minnesota after Minnesota you know a week and a half earlier beat them. Are you okay with that absolutely. I'm okay with that. Have no problem with that also. Look at what Penn State's also accomplished throughout their season Penn state also by the away. Beat that Iowa team that just beat Minnesota so I think that has to come into play but I'm also a guy that was at the Michigan Penn State game and saw Mish Penn State. They beat good Michigan team and okay. If Minnesota Played Michigan before the season ended. Would they lose. Possibly I would probably favor Michigan at this point with the way they're playing football so I don't think you can just say they beat them. They should be ahead of them. I think there's a lot of factors that go into it. You're absolutely right. I'm not a stats guy. I I can't stand. FBI and rankings of player rankings and stuff and all this stuff we do that I just try to bite my tongue or don't bite my tongue because I really don't care that much But I think I have no problem with Penn state being ranked above Minnesota. I think it was a competitive game against Minnesota was probably the biggest game of in one hundred years at their school for goodness sakes at their place at home played really well. Penn state still had a chance to come back at the end of the game and and win the ballgame. So I don't think Minnesota's outlook Minnesota and go their way better than Penn state okay when you look at the rankings. The top seven did not change little place scenario coming from one of our listeners. CAIN Lindsey who said Woulda Georgia win in the SEC championship over Lsu. See both the dogs in the Tigers Tigers into the final four. It's hard to predict what else has happened. You know what I'm saying like okay if I if I state beats. It's Penn State Beats Michigan. And then guess what if they're playing Minnesota Championship game in Minnesota Beats Him. And now has a head-to-head Anna Conference Championship Ohio State. I think would be out in that scenario and I think Minnesota would be in Georgia's obviously Georgia obviously would be Dan. But if you look at Lsu there obviously with their body of work at the top. But I think it's going to determine what Ohio state does the rest of the way. Because 'cause Ohio state team that they remember Kevin when the initial rankings came out Ohio state was above Avella above Lsu even with what else you accomplished even with big time winds now. Let's look at Penn State. Look at Ohio State. They have a Penn state game. They haven't Michigan game. They also have a big ten championship game down the road so a lot on a lot of meat on their scheduled to prove how high they should climb if they lost a really close game to penn state or a really close game to Michigan but still went to the the big ten championship game and wiped out Minnesota. I think Ohio state would be in in that scenario so I think there's other things to account for but LSU's in an an interesting spot because if Ohio state if both those teams stay undefeated. Kevin won't be interesting going into the SEC championship game and saying this game might not matter. UH-HUH LSU. This game might not matter it. Might if they lose this game they can still get it in which is crazy to think about with with college football and US talking so much about every game and you know who's ticked off teams like Oregon. Utah that can you know. Even though they win their PAC twelve championship. They can't say anything because then when you look at Lsu scheduled who they beaten they beaten top you know four wins against teams in the top twenty and that they could boast about depending attending worth Texas is each and every single week who has who has the most wins over ranked opponents in the top. Twenty five I would assume that's LSU. And I mean I would wonder how long I want you to guess again. I would wonder how long it would take you because this blew me away. I was way wrong by the way just to be clear. Now look at this. Most Games Games most games. WHO's played the most games against top twenty five teams? Well no that's different from. Who has the most wins? Okay well who's played the most games against the top twenty five teams in the rankings. It feels like that's that's A. That's an auburn answer. Right like Aubert second already played four. Am Am Nope lost. Three teams had two more to come by the way I by the way I I always played five teams in the top. Twenty five okay. Let's size this. Let's isn't that crazy and then I was stage play in Michigan's played four but she's crazy. It's that means means it's Michigan Penn State Wisconsin Minnesota. Now that's a man I would state Yep five hundred twenty five. That's crazy ask man look at you out the stats well. It's just it's crazy. It's crazy because you start you say and I say we both have the same thing we all do it across the country and man. LSU's win against Texas was really awesome. It was a really big win. They did go to their place. And you deserve credit but what is you you know. Texas turned out to be you know. Texas is kind of struggled. and IT'S NOT A. It's not a really good football team. So they were top ten. You know what I'm saying. Yes we all we all point to all these rankings and I just thought that was a very interesting thing when I heard it on. Get up the other Mornin just crazy stat that I would have never guessed.

This first week in change of the young NBA season so a lot to get through but I'm with you travis no real rooting interest although I helped Mr Murray's happy so maybe I'm rooting for the nets How do you feel on your team gets knocked out. How does that impact your routing great question 'cause transit of property makes your team look good but then also hurts me when you had the game won so it's a great great question I don't have an answer I think it varies over the years it's also for me like the nationals. They haven't won yet the whole Bryce Harper it's like I I think I want the national one but I'm not going to like I don't care second just enjoy it but I think it'd be better if the nats win I know what you mean I think it would be a cool story the Bryce Harper components very compelling it's also really better for me there's a billion former Indians players and his world series like Brantley enters the game six hitting four hundred like Oh that would've been nice if he would have done it I don't know when he was in Cleveland what do you think about our teams maybe making a deal for Francisco Indoor he's not gonNA stay in Cleveland just because they're just not going to happen with what he's worth I love him he's like one of my favorite players one of the most fun players to wad agnostic smile awesome player I love him so yeah not happy hopefully dodger soon let's get to it pay that man his money Aaron running back for more in US solid job a week ago and he are I most pleased with because I only care about myself here is the way you talk to me towards the plays that were solid and away from the ones that weren't so tip of the cap to you my friend sounds good good to be with you again this week hopefully we could do a little bit more of the same got off the side I was on the t total over but that's okay I felt comfortable bad but you got me on the over and you you nailed the Virginia game it was just a little too many points in that one yeah I mean well we gotta look probably a little bit of a break with the weather they came through we saw some unders last week so they got a little dicey in the end hey welcome to the world of sports betting right right all right so talk to me about the weather this coming weekend because it's affecting how I'm approaching some games I like Indiana allies against northwestern no surprise have been fading the wildcats for a lot this season but I'm worried about whether in the midwest how are you approaching things on that front well you always have to you kind of keep an eye on things and it is sometimes you could look Monday and Tuesday and excetera and things just don't come to mm for wish and it was a little bit and then you have weeks like last week where you had this tropical front come up through the Gulf and kind of change everything and you didn't really expect probably some of those big ten games the Midwest some of the Mac to be as as poor weather as it turned out to be so you always kind of had keep an eye on it but so does everyone else and when you see totals especially that start moving you don't really wonder why well the first thing you need to do who is check the weather because that usually has something to do with it I know the game tomorrow night on Thursday night Halloween on ESPN U. The Appalachian State That game was certainly going to have some weather that's a total that opened I think globally around fifty and his move down a good five more than five point so there's always those examples out there so I guess let's go through it like we did last week but I want to start with this in Bloomington Indiana northwestern game because look we've talked about nausea about how inept the wildcats offense is and I don't I don't know how else to explain it other than they just they faced six power five opponents they have only gotten four first-half field goals in those six first-half that's one in four of them and then the other two they were shut out at halftime so there's an offense I can't do much now I you could give up a few more points but I think I use offense is much more explosive they scored at least thirty one against all their opponents except Ohio State and the wildcats look at back back home games where they were kind of up for right they had Friday night game with Ohio state in town than the Isla game a team they they had beaten I want saith three straight times there so they kind of had Iowa's number just given their their running attack and got wax they got waxed and I don't see how this is a good spot when they're gonNA go on the road facing team that's been pretty good sixty two this year yeah I mean you wonder where everything is at with this North West turned team at this point one in six straight up remember this is a program that played in the pig uh I'm sorry the big ten championship game last year obviously zero Oh chance for that to happen at this point this year and you know northwestern was just an interesting team because you looked at the box scores etc can you always wonder how they got it done but they were able to get it done and this year it has really just been the opposite that has happened within this program Cetera you you know it happened the first week against Stanford certainly from an ATS perspective when they had that late fumble Stanford jumps on it to get spread scoring Cover in that game and when when you talk about inept offense Doug I don't think that paints the proper pitcher of how bad worth Western offense has been because it is been something else send I I again I it's hard to find a word to describe it because oh you look at them right now and and no question they played some slow teams and some really good defensive teams but they are on a run of zero three ten and fifteen and ten points their last five games so getting to ten is an absolute chore for this for this northwestern team and I just don't see any turn around that because if you watch this team or if you watch them play each and every week there's nothing but this is a team that just has a hard time moving the ball certainly has a hard time score or putting any kind of points on the board as well and you know the defense has been pretty good you do Kinda wonder at what point do they have you know there was a little bit ascension the you know probably about a month ago that you heard the defense was kind of getting sick of the offense etc but the defense has been sturdy it's been good enough when you look at Indiana interesting with third year head coach Tom Allen who is done a really good job recruiting and building depth you can see that on display here they lynch a bowl eligibility I believe the earliest time ever last week in that win at Nebraska you know their last two games that they've played against I I guess you could say a little bit more pacier teams in Nebraska and Maryland if he will they're able to score thirty eight and thirty four thirty five against rutgers before that I'm not sure I think it's a little bit fluky how they've scored this is a defensive a pro orientated program and how they've been under Tom Allen he was sleet facto defensive coordinator until this year he gave that up in past that down to a thirty two year old came woman Mac daughter pretty good job so the quarterback has kind of been a little bit the situation with panics or Ramsey so I think they do enough off to to certainly made me spread cover the spread but do enough to win win this game but I think the scores low here you just can't count on more than ten from northwestern Indiana should you know it looks like a twenty two ten twenty four to ten type game I I'm on this one under the total continue to ride that until northwestern just show something different that they can score the football so the total here is forty three and a half or forty four out there in the market looks like a team total of about sixteen and a half that's pretty high for the wildcats Yeah I mean you know the last five weeks you're caching under the total in that and yeah again they face some very good defensive teams but Indiana is certainly of that ilk as well I'll tell you what the probably the best of the year is Indiana team total first half under if it's over seven okay all over your all over these that's that's good that's what I like to talk to you doug because it it's funny because I used to talk through these games with someone and you know you Kinda give my reasoning etc they could always find the best way the most logical way to make that bad as you mentioned maybe it's first half team total excetera you're kind of that guy I aim to please opponents in the first half and depending on how many three nights there are there's only a small amount of possessions whether it be seven possessions six possessions the first staff depending on the linked drives so if you're asking the wildcats to get a touchdown NFL goal I bad hasn't happened against the power five opponent scored a touchdown in the first half and I use what you're saying is a defensive team some of their points have been fluky and we're going to see some inclement weather in the midwest that's where I wanna go because the number the side is lower than it has been for a lot of their other opponents obviously last week in that Iowa game was a gift at it came down to eight but it's the right right price for me to get involved here sounds good indict game for Indiana I know this team is extremely fired up that's been a very a long time since that happened if it's almost ever happened so big game still here for the hoosiers money one is twice as sweet as money earned all right good a little you know the last few weeks obviously at some points last week and in their last Colorado had showed some life finally back at home and now they're back on the road Bull.
