"The Giants gonna take one pick before I can't believe me and a Colt, Midwest scout and something common. I was throwing up in my mouth thinking the Giants were going to take witty gay because he has no sack production whatsoever in Michigan. That's the last thing the Giants needed. But I'll tell you why he was throwing up in his mouth because he's the Midwest Scout, if they don't take what he brings them is the crown jewels from Michigan than the guy probably does have a job the next day, so he wanted to make sure They used this scouting. It was elected. Somebody get lost. You don't talk about a no hitter. It's not like it means come on in. It's not a tremor. Lourdes fell for the gold. So are we talking about here? All right. You better hope that pay didn't turn into anything for the colt because you're gonna be eating those words fine. Average average defensive player could stop the run. He's fine. How dare you Colts fans were on and Indianapolis If you are angered by Marazzina Dismissiveness towards your first round draft pick. I welcome those barbs today. Finally. Earlier in the week. We heard Jimbo Fisher until I think of booster group of from not mistaking that he was excited about playing Bama this year because they're finally gonna beat him. Okay. So here is a reporter posing that to Nick Saban. In golf. You think you think anybody on the football field Well, I'm sure come a day, you know, But is that what you're talking about? Football? It was like he was like you want I used to be on my own time Basketball league. I guess you know we're no longer partners. You know when it comes to that they have a really good team really good program, and you know they're getting better and better all the time, And there's a lot of challenges in the sec. And there's certain one certainly one of the up and coming programs and he's always been a great coat to the great job for us when he was with us, and he's had a great career as a head coach, so Um, you know, it's gonna be a challenge for us, no doubt, but we have to play him. Oh, that's so good Coach. Did you hear that? Jimbo Fisher said that they're ready to beat you. Engulf. That's great the.

"No f- justin. Just go skip over card. You just go past. Did you see robert talking about kurt. I loved every second of it. Oh god if people who have not seen it. I want you to look it up but you need to understand the totality you got to prepare them because they think they go there for taking going to get so much more yes yes so robert griffin was all on bleacher reports draft show with adam legco aids robert griffin at his crib in his set up. First of all he got on a black short sleeved button up would sequence on it. It's not all sequence but it got sequence. You're trying to tell me. That's not like some sort of cowboy shirt. Dallas the sequence are dallas. The burger yeah all of their of their loved it houston houston really golf it. So he's got that shirt on. He's got to giant teddy bears behind him. And when i say giant i mean giant like sitting on the floor up to his eye level. Can we take a second here for teddy bears. I'm sorry. I don't want to slow down this whole process but when we all started doing tv from home like to some degree we gave some thought to what background was going to be. And i purposely. Took the books that i wanted to have back there and i purposely picked those things out so. Rg three was. Like you know what. I want to big pink. Teddy bears yet backdrop. That's the message. I'm trying to seem. There's a desk with some trophies on it right like look his rookie year the trophy year. But it's definitely. He thought he was go. Have trophy room and it turned into a corner of his desk that has the trophies and so he's sitting there and the vikings took kellogg and they asked robert about it. I don't know this is not what eight wants to see. This is this is not a guy that does everything they he can't do. And i'm telling you cousins up there cashing those checks a dow. They brought somebody else. Did those checks going. Eight and eight. Don't forget that eight nine seven as she was so shady get see him fighting the smile the whole way and i'm like a dog third row. Pick like here really should like that and did schefter tells us that the vikings actually were trying to go get justin field and that they see kellyn mont as a potential replacement. Because i figured this out and you tell me. If i'm wrong here i saw bruce feldman had a quote to indicate this the nfl. The jimbo fisher is terrible and all these people think that if you get a jimbo fisher quarterback you can take him to the next level because he has been so poorly coach. That's how christian ponder goes in the first round that's how e. j. manual goes in the first round. That's how you talk yourself into. Jayme is after all the interceptions in everything else. That was around. It like teams. Seemed to look at jimbo's quarterbacks we fix this right. It's so kellerman. Who i saw in college and i did not think was that good. Bruce athletic had a good quote. Somebody like jimbo. Just coach him to death. And so the vikings apparently like no. We've got a starting quarterback here and what it tells me. I want you think about this point. A whole lot of these quarterback that these announcers be talking themselves into their teams actually see with the rest of us e when they aren't actually that good. Jimmy garoppolo right. All these people try to talk themselves into jimmy garoppolo clearly. His team doesn't think he's that good kirk cousins. That seems to be what's going on up there because they never tell the quarterback. Sorry they always gotta tell us all right. Yeah i think you hit it what you said not that good. That's what they see in their quarterback. He's like okay was not that good data to go back to the hotel. They like all right. We've been staying in two stars so from a distance that three stars seem really nice. Oh so we don't get no mince on pillows here. They like all right. We go upgrade to get four or five star. That's what it feels like to me is like they thought that life before was terrible when they were living in this really terrible life and they're like man i would give anything for mediocre and then they started playing against teams or losing in important games and realize that. No there's another level that we're going to have to get to because a quarterback on that next level give so much like room for error as a coach or general manager. You can call wrong play. You can bring in the wrong guys. If your quarterback is nice then it looks like you have done all those things right. Yeah i always wonder if there's a difference on those things between like how a defense of code versus an offensive coach sees. You know what. I mean because i think the offensive coach can look at these quarterbacks say to themselves oh i could come up with some things to do with him right. My brain can overcome. Somebody's weaknesses the divas coaches like who. We would lied his as up by you. Know how mad. Mike zimmer is that he watches kirk cousins plays sixteen seventeen times a year and not once. Does he get to call. You know what i'm saying. I think that's a fair point. We always rely on. Office of coaches are offensive guys to do the analysis of the quarterbacks because they know all the buzzwords and they spend a lot of time with quarterbacks but actuality like the defense having to face them you might be better served coordinator. Watch film on quarterbacks or your db coach. Watch film on quarterbacks and come back with that. because i'm telling you that's what the stuff that breaks defense like. It's that ability that we can recognize right like i do nothing about this right. I don't think it's a coincidence. Buddy and rex ryan right both of them. Various points have leaned on a quarterback. That could move buddy ryan. Of course it was like a pioneer in this. Like i'll know nothing about who buddy ryan voted for his attitudes about the world or whatever it was he put randall cunningham out there in nineteen eighty six right that day near make him branch rickey as far as the. Nfl is concerned rex. He made the call to go to tyrod when they have a chance in buffalo and made that move p carroll who generally likes his guy super pro style and everything else. He made the call to go. Russell wilson at a time where. I'm not sure that many people would. Wow no russell wilson. But i think that you can look around and find a lot of these quarterbacks who could move and you will find the defensive guys were the ones who would like now. Let's go with this because they looking at. I can't do nothing with that. I don't have a strategy to account for that absolutely right because those other guys have come up in a world where they thought one thing was the way to do it. Defensive guys have not come up in that world they come up in a world where they go out there on sunday. We got some for him. We got some for him..

"People save it. Don't think about it. You know so it's like why didn't somebody think of that. I mean that's true of any great song you know but that one is particularly f- cool in the language that it flips on its ear but i had the title dig up the hatchet laying around into notebook for probably. I don't know maybe fifteen years really. But i i have to ask you. Do you remember thinking of the trains. Yeah of course. I do remember where you were was in clarksdale mississippi in my grandmother's driveway. You know made me chuckle. So i knew there was something there just in. So is andrew nye progressed in our writing. I realize we'll see. I can just go back and just dig up some old song titles in and i might have a scrap a napkin or something that had i think that was the fewest lines of anything. I sent him but he had two or three lines. You did have that big bridge where it's the cell phone thing mentioned pictures you You found on my phone. Which i raised an eyebrow at first because i thought that that seems that seems almost to current. But i like it now. I think it's we needed some of that. Well that was the other line. I wanted to ask you about because you know with songs. Even with modern songs people. You know people like older technology. People want to write about trains and cadillacs. I think actually. Rick rubin had this conversation with jack. Wait on our podcast Because jack was trying to figure out how to put tesla in in a song music. It just doesn't work but somehow in that song the the it's the line about those photos you found on my phone it works. It may be the first example of like new technology in an old song. I thought it was so great. You know it's just. I was just thinking well. What are the things that cost. The most conflict fell phones causing more problems with people. you know. it's like the biggest contributor to you. Know arguing and things like that and so it seems like the most obvious thing that somebody would would bring up. When you're digging up the hatchet you. And i thought bird might just take the line out. But i didn't have but a couple. I thought about it for a minute. I don't know that kind of stuff before you had the lone gun. Songwriter singer songwriter. The dylan's the joni mitchell's. They were sung writing teams. And there's a certain division of labor and the sort of conversation. That is kind of appealing. Yeah you can make a simpler song that way. Actually you can boil it down to to the to the bone because you're not stepping on each other's toes you know it's a clean line. Cover a lot of you know psychological territory the lyrics start in la. Which is that what you did the right. That's where i was located in. Jimbo is in north mississippi but he he started writing that song in la based on his observations as someone not from their seeing. Just how shocking. The homelessness was in such a prosperous tourist destination. Spot is such as downtown hollywood and then he pretty much had. That song fully written a recorded before..

Kansas splits with athletic director Jeff Long two days after parting ways with Les Miles
"Get you updated on what is happening in lawrence kansas. Where less mild was let go the other day and then this afternoon the man who hired him and presumably let him go has also been shown. The door crisslow joining us on that story and others. Chris thanks for the time. Always good to have you on and give us the latest. How did how did how did this happen. So quickly with jeff long. It's great to be with you. Always i I really felt like we heard the news about less miles that this was just it was going to happen with jeff law and just did not senior way. He would survive. I think what happened in a lot of donors a kansas at the end of the day. The president a chance to learn. Douglas giradi heard from several influential donors that they just did not want to be the guy to hire the next head football coach and i think when you look back sort of having all the down with less weight ended there that The more that they thought about it. And i think jeff athletics look long enough to know he said in a statement. Today was going to be a huge distraction more hung around and and they wanna make a clean break. Bring somebody else in to hire the knicks head football coach. Oh by the way they got issues the basketball program. Well they certainly do. And i saw her. Danny manning announced that he was a contender for the ad job. But as we. I don't know whether tennessee is the template but you do need an athletic director to get in there. Fairly quickly don't you. Yeah you don't the what's your proverbial tail wagging the dog. So yeah you gotta bring somebody else somebody. And it's going to be the ad someone that's that's gonna be the football coaches boss. I tell you name to keep in mind. Travis goff and northwestern we went to kansas undergrad. There how highly respected and sort of in the world. And he's a guy that you're going to hear a lot of push for from donors from influential people there k you to bring in to come in higher this the next head football coach. I think a guy will be certainly equipped to deal with. What's going to come their way on the basketball front as well talking to crisslow chris. Let me just take a step back and go back in time time to lsu and unless miles and after this information dumped the other day and learning much more about what happened down there and what didn't happen. I'm curious as a reporter who has covered so many scandals in so many so many big stories in college football just your your takeaway from from the progression of that program with with joe alita and less miles to to really where it is now and where does it go to try to clean up a rather tattered reputation. Yeah you think back to two thousand eleven ten years ago paul. Lsu's on top of the world now. Granted they lost alabama national championship. But that was a great football team In in a team that was is elite as it gets and now here. We are ten years later and they won the championship last year. But a lot of things off the field. A lot of things going on you know you. You always felt like there at the end of his tenured. Lsu that there was a lot of people. They're out to get him. When i say out to get him that wanted to move on. I just felt like they could do better. But as you know you know the sec. As well as anybody yeses. He thinks they can do better. Except for maybe in tuscaloosa And i think the some of the political forces around lsu sorta helpless. We're on his side to leave. Certainly it and four games the sixteen season they got it in. You heard jimbo. Fisher's name all sorts of aim. Tom herman the end up with a lot of people felt like that was never going to work with all the old winter national championship last year and really a great job assembling people going out and getting staff around in but now here we are off the field with this complete invested in investigation. As some of the way things have been handled with sexual assault domestic incidents going back before was head coach So you're right. There's there's a lot on their at lsu Just like kansas. You've got issues with the basketball team as well So it's It's a mess right now. We'll see where it all

"Mega cast so many different ways. To watch jimbo fisher. Head coach of texas am joins us this warning on the goodyear hotline to break down the game in jimbo for fans. They may not be aware. Because there's been so much. Travelled going from florida state. Texas a and m in savings travels you guys connected at lsu and he was the head coach. You were the national championship together and now savings on the brink of another just in totality coach. This is his fourteenth year alabama. And this is the eighth time. He's in the national championship game. Knowing him the way that you do give us some insight into this guy. I mean i think he's a very driven guy very tension details guy and you think about nick. It goes back to the way you're brought up. Say the other thing that he and i were born twelve mile. We were raised in the same air twelve miles apart from each other. And what you don't understand about those people west. Virginia and it was four coal mining towns. He he his dad had a gas station. People like that. There wasn't a lot to do so your work who what you did and how you did things and that culture. There was a very tough driven culture of detail. Work manual work family. Everything like i got nick. And you're a man you you as you provided for your family. That was one of the main things that area that you will respect. You got the area papers. He saw his dad do that. I saw my dad do that. But what nick is he's very attention. He's very driven and he loves coach ball and he's got the form you know he's gotten it down. Important gotten players. He's been able to get things in alabama's giving the resources at the end of the day you still gotta have the attention to detail and the drive and the psychological disposition to get inside other kid just had to make them not get complacent and won't more and he's done that jimbo coach. You ready to go. Because i'm worried about your hamstring. Or you rated told her linebacker but he just dropped two rounds in the draft because he couldn't catch fifty five year old guy by going to draft me. Man how does it. It was pike kishan. I can do it. I can't do it twice. I didn't want yeah. That's good at least you back healthy in out there running around without a doubt. That was fun. That was a great year board mouse fund. You had an opportunity to play alabama early in the season outside the obvious what them difficult to slow down on offense. I'm gonna be on. Durham so balanced. I think this is the best way they still. Rpo you but they line up and truly run the football. And i'm gonna tell you the key their receivers and we played them with walk saying when water was completely healthy which is different animal. Man smith is unbelievable. What a player he is. I mean i'm gonna tell you thing about devante. That's so unique their intelligence. they're very well coached. But those kids smith is one of the most intelligent football players. I've been around how i runs. Routes i changes speed. How he sets things up like a score in basketball. He didn't always blow by. He could stop start. Getting angles understands leverage. Any could run away from you then. Water was so dadgum explosive but their offensive line to now keyshawn. Let me tell you something now. They you sit back there and have a cup of coffee and so and then let those guys run down the field and so deep balls hard on but then najji harris and then two tight ends are so you have five weapons across the board all the receivers a tidy and the back and a quarterback is a tremendous decision making very accurate down the field but the end but the offensive line is the unsung hero. That team in my pin jimbo when you obviously look at this team if they win it tonight. Do you think this is the best team that savings ever head. Well you you you you get. You say that because you're so caught up in the explosion of offensive points now and the way the game is played and it just changed over the year against one of the best. Say you're the best is very It's it's it's such an opinion thing and the match up. You know this like boxing or anything. There's certain match up to certain people get to that can hinder. They've had some tremendous defensive football teams and that thing with if they would've opened up offense had the same in saudi probably could have had very similar results but didn't but our guest because the numbers are going to say. So but i think you've gotta be careful how you look at numbers when you're judging the greatest because it's the numbers are always going to grow as a as you get older. I mean as the game moved on it. This always wanna get better just away like the nba. Now how you score and rules change. And things like that. But i just i i look at things that there is one of them. I don't know if it's the best. I really don't i don't mean to knock it because it's so explosive because i gave up some things defensively throughout the year at times this talk about numbers for a second. Do you believe to the way that ohio state got into the. Do you believe that validates. The way to committee has qualified teams getting into the college football playoffs. I mean you. That's that's the argument and there was a lot there that for how they couldn't control because their lead and i get it but i'm gonna tell you what this could play into an advantage for them and you'll not showing this from playing and basketball's like you jay. You hit your stride in the middle of the year. They're really in the middle of their year right now. Alabama's probably put about everything on that they can put on. I state has. They're just finding out who they are and getting tested. So there's a lot of offense and saying the probably defensive schematic thing you're just figuring out about their team that alabama figured out long time ago and already put on film but but to say that it is that's a very tough thing man but only play six game..

And jimbo's got a few years on me and he said he had run into sprint like that for a while so he probably had to put that thing on ice or he. Whatever you do you know. He probably had that he was moving. I mean that was. He was probably a close second to divine chain on saturday. Night for fastest guy on that field.

Yeah i would be pretty Pretty loud yeah. It'd be very loud. I mean and it's just what this is just What what the big ten did at the start of the season you know this this set another and making all the rules and now they've reneging on them saying that was for player safety but now they don't care about players safety they care about distributing money out throughout the conference to get ohio state in to the to the playoffs and to me. That's just so hypocr hypocritical. I just you know that that one st caller you know the call and said we will five stars and this side another. Well you know what so with just about every team and nasty sick with the exception of peace. And i just i wouldn't say Commissioners sang thanki Changing the rules at the end at the end of the day make sure one team got into the playoffs and i just i just really think critical and also wants Send out a thing to squirrel. He and i used to call the chuck and doug show in out of jackson mississippi all the time about six or seven years ago and my my name. There was fish. And that's all paul. thank you. thank you The artist formerly known as fish feel. Don't think my call you know. Politics say they. Sec with coach park passed away. This has been a bad year because we had three great coaches. That help put. Sec on the map. Who's passed away this year The reason i'm calling paul. Is this the guy. Gm from florida. What is you know you talk about your school. Ohio state now not say because this this virus stuff around. Why don't you get them phone. Call your school. i say. Athletic director call alabama called texas call. Oklahoma city put them on your schedule during the year. When all this messes over hope pretty good lord. we're gonna put in this virus. Won't you schedule like that. Because i have to say that. Paul me i even put some put some good teams on their schedule. I are the year like other teams. Won't they won't. They put their pants. So it'd be like these other teams and play somebody out of conference not fan to build place like Ala bama florida auburn playtex play. Usc are they scared because they might get beat. And i'll hang up much response is call. We appreciate it anyway. We break here because we have a very special guest around the corner. We'll get a chance. Solicit listen to jimbo fisher. He's a coach at texas. Am right now. Sitting there at the number five position. Jimbo fisher right around the turn here and we are coming back with him when listening to paul finebaum. Show podcast and we can't wait to introduce you to our next guest. He is jimbo fisher. The head coach texas and and coach. It seems like we keep meeting like this during weeks. When you're supposed to have a game. And i know you'd rather have one. But how are things out there with. The ole miss game moved away because of covid. Well we're disappointed. In one of the reason being the last home game in our seniors being able to play when last time on kyle field. That's very disappointing. But as always nobody's fault that's the world we live in. We have to adapt. We have to adjust. We have to get ready to have a good fundamental this week in week this week. Better get ready to play tennessee and you know it is what it is.

"Far these games get pushed back. And if there's more games after this because the thing you can't do whoever's playing in the championship game has to be able to play on the nineteenth and you still want him to play all their games. So i could even see a rescheduling of games and the last four wake. You play the same people but you may mix the order up based on the people you think are going to get in a championship game to make sure they're are free on championship weekend. And my opinion. So i don't know So i know right now. Here's what we know we don't know and we got gotta whoever they forgot. We got to play the next week and the week after that. We're planning on ole miss next week and that changes that change. If it doesn't it doesn't let me ask you about something that commissioner sankey told us on on monday night and it's being tossed around. I'm sure you've heard it that. There is a at least a plan in the works. You probably know more than we do about playing games on december nineteenth as a coach. You want you want to compete for the championship. But what are your thoughts. If you don't make it to atlanta right now you've you. You need a little help from alabama to say the least about playing a game. That day does that. Does that appeal to your do bother me team or do you think it's okay. It doesn't really bother me. I mean because i still think we only get ten this year anyway so for your seniors evaluation for the draft. All of our young players more chance to practice and you say well. You're getting in preparation if you're practicing for a game you're practicing pretty doggone good to you know what i mean and this we only get ten of them so if we have to go the nineteenth we go the nineteenth. I'm open for it. I i don't mind it at all and a hopefully there'll be other things Down the road in addition to a ball game for your coach Appreciate your time as always. It's a pleasure to talk to you and We see very very soon pleasure to be with you. Thanks for having me about it. You got it. Always great to have coach jimbo fisher on the program in his team is an interesting situation. I think what he said there was very newsworthy. Because there there's a chance that your current sec schedule may not look that way in a couple of weeks. We will head to the break and get to your phone calls right after this. Hello.
MagSafe for iPhone 12! What Is It & What Can It Do!?
"So mag safe by the way what a troll of name everybody who the sport from their Mac book so much and like us year like in Dungle Hell watching this event and we're bringing back safe back and you. Get this warm flicker of glow and they're like it's a giant circle for your phone. What's safe about the point of maximum says that it would detach from your laptop when you tripped on it so the laptop wouldn't go flying. Do you think that your phone is gonNA attach from this circular magnet when you trip on the cable and it won't go? There's nothing safe about. Trading on the goodwill towards rational ports laptops. And instead it's a circle. So it looks very much like the like the Apple. Watch charger IT'S G. So the phone consult charge using your old she chargers a lot of confusion about this yesterday. So he can still just charge found aled while charging patio. If you buy apples meg safe one. Yep. It will use magnets to click on the back of the phone line itself in charge of fifteen watts, which is faster than most. Not As fast as a cable. But. The magnets are strong enough to hold the thing on the back of the phone and I swear to God. The point of this is so that when you get into bed at night, your phone's dead and you still want to screw around on your phone while plugged in dip you can. That's that's one hundred percent why they made this happen only if they made it like a six foot cable though. So it's an open standard. They've published the SPEC. There's there's some NFL stuff floating around. Anybody can just magnets they can't. They can't dram the magnets as far as I can tell the question is, can they can they MSI made for iphone drm the fifteen watt charging speed day? Definitely. MSI APP charters. So yeah. So they're definitely there's little NFC tags and the cases and the official stuff. So I'm sure they can software rate limit the charger, but anybody can make out dull Cardi making car mounts, Sco she's already making like it's happening. This is the accessory ecosystem for the iphone in it is all happening. So that is built out so that when they take the port off the phone, everyone's already used to click in little circles on the back. By the way that we've had this whole environmental conversation. To Max's circle looks very big. Compared to how tiny? Lightening Cable. Giant. It's like a coaster that you're throwing around wireless chargers waste electricity compared to came the radically less efficient, and so it's not good for the environment. He's where the starter apple buys Tesla. Conspiracy Theory was taking the port off the phone I'm saying that they're buying Tesla. Tesla Power Wall. So it's all happening. I think save is exciting I for one like I have a wireless car charger amount in my car and it's the it's the best. And so being able to throw your phone on there and taking off is really awesome. They're already all kinds of cases for that. I keep thinking about my little Osmo Jimbo. Yeah and so the new one has a magnet but you sound like fiddle with a clip to get it on your phone if that thing just becomes a MAG safe attachment. Like there's a million things you were taking your phone in and out of yeah plus they're going to sell more pants because people have to buy special pants with extra pocket with protective line or added to keep it from demagnetize credit. Battery packs that just magnet on the back that's was your iphone mini problem like there's just like a bunch of cool ideas that happen when you have. A magnetic attach things to found. The question is, how strong are these magnets? Can they hold the way of a battery pack? Can they keep your kimball mounted while you're I don't know doing extreme sports. Like whatever people do? Get. You're bombed down the snowboard mountain. Well, those magnets mess with the compass because that was a problem on the first phone that had A. Surger the palm pre. Just pointing that I get ahead, say I'm pretty sure like mom rushing the phone out the door and crap, the compass doesn't work. On their cabin board of problems. Far, below like sprint exclusive. Hopefully, it's like did anybody check the magnets and like five thousand apple engineers assigned to that problem now? I, think it's really neat I. DO think that it's obvious. The march taking off the phone is underway I very mixed feelings about this.

"They did. Against Florida. So anyway, I just thought. I'd throw something out there that was negative for a chain. Well, I'm glad to hear that Tom we it has been a fairly negative day. It's only four four forty where I live and probably. A couple of hours earlier where you are appreciate call very much Why don't we take a break It's been a busy afternoon and we more guest come. And including the Commissioner of the southeastern conference at the top of the final hour we've already had Jimbo Fisher on. And we were coming back with. Paul Finebaum show podcast. And we welcome back. Great to have everybody here. On a Wednesday afternoon Mike is up next hey mike. Hey Paul thank you for taking my call. Real quick. But Anyway, the the guy that was he got some wrong information about Alabama being an underdog at home Alabama's a consensus, six point favorites. That's all the way across the board. So anyway, just wanted to correct anything in there. Somebody 'cause I I I was pretty sure but you know when it comes to betting lines. You would be hearing a lot more about the only time. Alabama has been an underdog since two thousand. Nine was at Georgia of four years ago as you probably remember, they were about a two point underdog and got and killed Georgia that day. Well. I'm worried about this weekend. Hope we'll see what happens if they fall. Thank you, Yeah. Appreciate that Eddie is in Florida and you were on the Air Hello Eddie. Hey how you doing my man? We are doing great. Thank you. Hey row damn pat..

"Player standing on the sideline or step down to the crowd bearing side tackle the kid from it right in front of the bench. Of I mean it was the play was over. And the thing that was all background I'm thinking about the Arkansas game last week in call made such a big difference. After there's tackled was made. seems to me if I'm remembering correctly. ficials met and awarded the touchdown because that's clearly the way was played was going to turn out. and the big difference between that call that result and what happened in Arkansas now I grant sixty sixty plus years has passed by But That kind of a thing as was precedent setting, it seems to me it happened a long time ago, and maybe I don't remember correctly because my is no longer than my Well, it's not very long. And I just wonder if anybody can straighten me out on this or verify the fact that this did happen. You know I'm trying to remember Do you remember? Did you tell me the year because I've already forgotten? I'm guessing I was old enough to watch college football at a time when there weren't then he college football games to watch. On national television so this would have been. I'm thinking okay. Here's the deal. I. I know exactly what you're talking about because I knew the person. You're talking about the cotton bowl. In whatever year it was. And MID MID MID to late fifties would that be about right and yeah you're talking about you're talking about Tommy Lewis, coming off the bench for Alabama against Baylor and. It's an interesting story I tommy. He made a great tackle No I'm sorry. I should have my ages caught up to me there. I The reason I know this story so well is it Tommy Lewis was one of the most the kindest man I've ever met and I was in Huntsville Alabama one time giving a talk and he was in the audience. And without thinking I, I made some light mention of the exact same play that you said and I felt a hush over the crowd and I did not realize that this. This was now. Twenty five years later, maybe longer and he's he was still upset about that. He was still sensitive about that and we talked to afterwards We became very close friends and I used to talk to him a lot and when I see him occasionally at games and he never really got over that he he was embarrassed to the end that that he had done that. Because, he had that much pride in the University of Alabama and his position he was he was on Ed Sullivan show yeah exactly. All right, a game and ed asked him something to the effect it what made you think what's on your mind when you did that and he said, well, I was so excited and I was so full of Alabama exactly that I just couldn't let him do that. Yeah. Mike one antidote. Not to bring this up Harvey Updike the infamous. Person who poisoned the trees at Auburn? You've probably heard that he died a couple of. He called me not long after he had been captured. And I asked him I said Harvey. I didn't I said you're out of your mind I in some ways he may have been. Any said you know I I was just so full Alabama. And I said that's what he quoted. Time you Lewis and Tommy. Lewis heard about that. He called me and was very upset. His wife called me because. He didn't want anything to do with that guy. As very people. But yeah, I didn't mean to in long two story but Yeah I should have remembered the second you said but I, I was sidetracked here but that's okay. Well, just as a sideline I WANNA say that you've got the most Incredible Membrane for things like this of anybody I've ever known some of the things out here on your show. Just really astounding. Thanks so much great. Hey thank you. Mike I. appreciate that. It. Just you know some stories you remember in some, you can't remember the next minute. Let me date. If you're just joining us, it's been a busy day already as we thought would happen it did happen today the SEC announced that the Florida home game Saturday against Lsu has been moved to December, so Florida will now finish with Tennessee and L. S. U.. And I, it's interesting because miles Brennan was probably not going to play in the game according to coach earlier we've had a busy one already You heard Jimbo Fisher there a few minutes ago. Greg mcelroy. Pete Dabble. Commissioner. Sankey later on, we are taking a break back with much more when listening to the Paul Finebaum show podcast. A busy day that. Probably will get busier based on this this week as it has already gone by the way I was wrong about when I was talking to my friend a minute ago. Time Goose did tackle the other team. It was against Rice dickey moment. Mabel in the fifty four cotton bowl so I didn't mean to drag Baylor into it. But that is exactly what what what's going on. Let's say get back to the call five, five, two, four, two, seven, two, eight, five, and let's check in with Troy in Mississippi. Hey, troy afternoon. Is a question. So you K Next to a bowl game and for years what Bowl Game? Where do you think it will be? Well Troy. Thank you for the call I think it's a little bit early to tell i. do think they have a really good chance of going to a bowl game but let's let's let's see where we go on that right now we're only three games in but I think it'd be a pretty decent bowl game that would be. A nice. Reward for the season. Thank you for the call how `Bout Rubin in Florida. Hey, room and good afternoon. Good afternoon Paul appreciate you taking my call I love your show listen to you for a long time, and this is the first time. I've been lucky enough to get through. Thank you. But I just wanted to make a couple of comments about. Alabama football and then then see what your thoughts are. Paul them. You know it seems like since nick saving changes offensive philosophy and went wide open. The offense is certainly gotten more prolific but the defense is saying a slide through the years and And from what I see Paul. Alabama don't play Alabama football anymore. They play football like everybody else and. And your guest earlier Pete Down Saudis. Audis analogy on the upcoming game was at home. And Impala I could be wrong but My Gut tells me that we're going to see something like the last Alabama. Clemson. College Football playoff game where Clemson just what the Field Alabama. And you know. I. Hope I'm wrong Paul. But what do you think and what are you speak? I've learned one thing this year. That to make a prediction. Before a game until you know whether. The school, the team will be there the coaches will be it's too crazy right now to make prediction on Wednesday. Hey, thank you for the call. Jeff is in Virginia Jeff Good afternoon. Now..

WFH From Barbados
"Global tourism as you might expect, has been way down this year the number of people going overseas on vacation declined by a massive sixty, five percent in the first half of the air. But this hit was especially bad for Barbados the Caribbean island nation has built its economy around tourism, and normally this is a really great business more than a million tourists typically visit. Barbados. And they're all these businesses that depend on these tourist hotels and restaurants and local farms that supply the restaurants and all of these people count on the tourism sector. It makes about a third of Barbados's GDP as people started to halt their plans for trips to places like Barbados those jobs and businesses, they took a huge hit. So the country's Prime Minister Mia Motley. She had an idea and I spoke to UC skeet about this. He's the US director at the organization that promotes tourism to Barbados Prime Minister Recognize that we have an opportunity to welcome these individuals who are working. Remotely to come to Barbados enjoy all that the Allen has to offer and stole be able to work. So what it did is it allowed us to look beyond short-term visitor and create lungs. The visitor is on the island and the government developed a special new visa twelve months long, and they're just a few conditions you have to work for your employer back home ending at least fifty thousand dollars a year that is, you know you're not getting a job in Barbados also, you pay two thousand dollars application fee and you need your own health insurance which travel insurance can typically cover. Application is approved Bam. You can sit up let up in a hammock overlooking the Caribbean on horseback. Emiko horseback take your pick and you know probably not very surprisingly daring after having seen this ad over two thousand people like, Sean. Have applied for the welcome stamp visa and it doesn't sound like a ton but using explained why this is actually a really important economic boost, they have to find a place to live. They have to eat this hurtling going to participate in a lot of the attractions and activities in addition to that. Then no become because I can guarantee you want to come into the welcome stamping Barbados they're not gonNA WANNA leave. So they're also become a part of the voice that tells their friends and families at that. You must visit Barbados and I think that then has even longer term benefits and I. Think that's certainly a win win. But of course, this question comes up in my head, right like, could it really be this easy I? mean if it is maybe the entire population of the world is going to end up in the Caribbean. But to check this out, we went to talk to Tim Burgess. He's the CO founder of an international workforce company called Shield Jimbo he's working internationally is not always so simple. There's there's a whole lot of compliance and I guess I. Sort of administrative issues that people don't think about in this context. Tim says, there are two main obstacles to international working from home. So first of all, if you're going for a long length of time like at least six months, you have to start thinking about taxes. If you're for example going to Mexico you might become tax resident in Mexico, your employment say hold on now where liable for having employees Mexico, and of course, this is not just income tax right? Example, Hanshin State health insurance. Yeah. All the different components of social security a few moved from the US. To Franz the employees accost goes from about fifteen percent on top of the salary to forty seven to fifty percent on top of the summer. So it's not as easy as just going to a we work in Paris. It's a very gray area. Barbados got around this particular snag. They said, you do not need to pay taxes in Barbados with this particular visa just keep paying your taxes and social security to home country but Tim. Raises a second issue, which is if you'll say working for an American company but want to work overseas the company you work for start to need to comply with your new countries, regulations and labor laws like say, maybe you'll be forced to take the minimum twenty four vacation days required by Jim. Laurie. If you relate to Berlin, which would be sad. Yeah. I mean that would be a struggle, but I would be up for tackling that. So Barbados, really turned this gray area into a very simple and clear invitation to remote worker. They saw this. And so Darian you know we started talking about this and we were wondering like, is this the wave of the future? I really hope and my hope is that people take it up. It would be a really wonderful initiative and a great model that people could follow and a lot of other countries have realize there is a huge opportunity here Estonia has launched its own visa. So has Bermuda and so Shaun the business intelligence analyst from Charlotte she's a tastes case company said, yes, and to visa was approved and the horses in hammocks wait exactly excited I I couldn't believe it. I was like Oh my God he's actually going to happen. I'm excited to Sean paid her two thousand dollars visa fee, and she now has her flights booked for just a couple of weeks from now what are you looking forward to most about? Barbados the food. The food tasting. Some new flavors there flying fish is like their. Go to national dish it's something called flying fish, which I have no idea

How to Go Braless
"But, then she found boob love in a hopeless place by the mid two thousand ten's. Riana was already becoming iconic for her bra fashion statements, so when photos of her nip slips started, popping up on shares tumbler feed. She titillated so I was like this is so cool that this. Singer, she's so punk that she's not wearing a bra. That is so pumped to me I'm going to do the same. And I was going to performing arts school at the time the Brit School. So that was a school where individualism was definitely appreciated and encouraged, so I didn't have that fear of what if I get laughed at because it was a performing arts school, so you'd expect to find all kinds of characters in an environment like that, and even though I mean I never came across anybody who will come to me and be like why not wearing a Bra? But it was something where I definitely used that time to build my confidence, because walking into a canteen, full of boys and girls who have their own opinions of viewing opinions of everyone else. It really will make you forcefully build character. If you choose to do something that's quite nonconformist like not wearing a bra. Yeah? I mean I can. Especially the the first few times you did that. Were you nervous at all? Like? How are you feeling? Are you just like visit me? And deal with it. I didn't think much of it. Because I saw I saw the almost like it was like an old to the ninety s like Jimbo. Those old pictures of Jennifer Aniston in the nineteen when she was filming the first few runs, a friends, and she's not wearing raw, and it's like those of images. What what I was looking at I, kind of curated my social feed in such a way. That I was seeing images of women who went wearing a Bra. If they're outfit so for me. It was like I'm not the first ever person to do this, so it's not like I'm doing something that's. So shock horror. The feeling of choosing to not abroad was fun because it felt like a fashion statement for me, and also it was like it almost made me feel like a little bit made me feel Elizabeth more sexy equivalent. Of wearing a push up bra? Ironically, it's like not wearing a bra and having your Nipples of showing for your outfit Lou bit. In a way for me, critics the same. Impact might be to create if I were to put on a push up Bra cleavage. It's still the same concept of the something on my chest. I know you WANNA. Look at.
Interpretable AI in Healthcare
"One of the important areas in which model interpret ability should have an impact. I guess somewhat argue the most important areas in healthcare after all. What good is some black box It's worth something if it's reliable but yeah better than a black box would be a transparent box and while that makes a great pool quote easier said than done. There's also an interesting aside here about interpreting. For whom patient or doctor and my concern is doctor because the last thing I want to patient self diagnosing and getting access to AI tools to essentially make the sort of inferences that you need a guided trained died. Make so in my mind. Successive applied machine learning and healthcare is really about helping the doctors the clinicians the radiologist the people that are operating the machines in interpreting the evidence in doing that sort of thing so surely there's some interesting work specifically on model interpret ability in the context of healthcare right off this week on the show. I speak with Jay theon garage about his recent paper. Calibrating healthcare AI. Towards reliable and interpreted deep. Predictive models. I am I'm a computer scientist at Lawrence livermore national labs and I will descend lights computing division. They're doing research much learning in occupations and I'd asked you on today most notably to discuss your recent paper calibrating healthcare a I told reliability and interpreted deep predictive models. This is right at the intersection of the things we like to get into here. It's interpret ability and M. L. I'm not an expert in healthcare and I know it does take some expertise. Can you tell me a little bit about your background? And how you've learned these two fields and whatever their overlap is so mind. Bagnall might be Watson Mustang. Being helping me get on top of some of the challenges that he insists and how we could potentially report with some of the tools of your building. General ambition problems to I see a lot of headlines that Bragg for certain problems like maybe it's a radiologist and things like that that algorithms are now achieving these human level performance although when you look a little deeper maybe that's perhaps a stretch. What's your perspective on the current state of the art in Computer Vision? How close are we to that? Human level goal were all seemingly after. I think that's a philosophical question on some level if you actually talked to a doctor down definitely testing which is using human performance. Okay but if you deep down to go to the doctors and house them on both the costs that you really want to help you with many times down to this new the kind of problems back the actual doctors and people who are treating radiated difficult infections business they are looking for is solid really really challenging problems which often cutting the benchmarking statistics typically build the vision community. "So we'll talk a bit about where we are headed in regards to the economy with a few other aspects of all of this including frankly how this is affecting your job and we'll do that with the labor law attorney Joyce Smith who joins us this evening in the thank you for being on the program my pleasure thank you for having me absolutely of course a lot of people are learning things about their jobs that they may not have known before and they have perhaps a new relationship with their job if in fact they still have a job now you are a labor law attorney in general I'm curious your thoughts about how well the law and regulations were prepared for such an eventuality that's a great question I think the the rash of legislation we've seen come fast and furious it shows we weren't really ready but I do think that Congress has been quick to act we've had Lucia issuing all kinds of new guidance EOC issuing new pandemic guidance we've got Congress acting with you sick leave expansions to medical leave act so it wasn't there before but we're acting quickly to get their one eight six six five oh Jimbo is run over one eight six six five oh five four six two six clearly when you face a situation like this and will divide certainly reappears although it's a it's a much smaller divide on one side of the equation and that is do you have union protection or do you not have union protection to go back to I guess the mid fifties and close to thirty percent of the American labor force was in fact in the union of some sort today I guess that number is more like seven or eight percent and a huge percentage of that is in the public employment how is that affected the individual's ability to survive the situation sure you're you're absolutely right the unions have been on the decline which means there's not as much power for employees to band together and advocate right now and you know for example we see health care providers who have been exempted from these new laws for paid leave and for the families first corona virus actor exempted yeah there's not a group banded together and advocating for them so you I think it it is harder for the employee to step up with if they're worried about their working conditions right now and in terms of of let's say choices like furlough or fired or pay cuts and there have been people who have the face that choice granted if your only choice was your god this may sound like a pretty good choice but on the other hand if if this is what you facetime street caught a few people off guard and maybe they weren't sure quite what they should do sure you know for load I give a furlough is that you're coming back in the relationship hasn't stopped so that's good news to be sent to you hope you still have a job to come back to you know pay decreases you still have a job although I will say if you are one of the many many millions who are are facing layoffs right now many of the states have implemented expanded unemployment benefits loosened requirements for that has enhanced the amount of time and the amounts you can get so again we're seeing another area where the law has stepped up to try to make this easier for those who are losing their jobs right now your thoughts about both the idea and the execution of the idea regarding a flooding the economy with money both in terms of the just cash to people go forth and spread them and to try to keep other people's jobs going and also the money that's going to small businesses which by the way is about to run out that is is to to help the small businesses keep keep up paying people on a jury for thoughts about the idea about how well it's being carried out sure I think the idea is great I think it's much needed I think the way it's been carried out has created a lot of headache especially the paycheck protection program as you mentioned we're seeing those funds run out on that you know this is this went into gear so quickly that the regulations hadn't really been figured out we had banks you're putting all kinds of requirements on who would be prioritized and everybody knew the money was going to run out it was first come first serve so I think the intention is great I think whenever you're going to try to to disperse that much money quickly it's going to be hard to gear up I I hear stimulus checks are starting to hit people's bank accounts I think you know I think it's great I think all of its needed I think there are a lot of frustrated people especially with you know a lot of small businesses who aren't going to get funding under under it and don't know whether they're going to add money to the stimulus plan so I think they're a great idea yeah would be great to see them iron it out and and help
"jimbo" Discussed on KSFO-AM
"A show one eight six six five oh Jimbo as we continue to look at the problem and watch it grow and do what our response can be we'll talk a bit about the stimulus package in a moment right now let's take a call for our guest it happened of the Niagara university with Mike in Ventura California good evening Mike good evening Jimbo fantastic show thank you I had a question about how those of us that are on our meager retirement or social security are going to be affected by the stimulus program so security you're still going to be able to get that twelve hundred dollar payment most of the social security and it's going to be well over seventy five thousand dollars so you would be entitled to that twelve hundred dollar payment people on disability are also entitled to the payment all righty well thank you very much that's all I have all right thank you appreciate your thoughts one eight six six five oh Jimbo one eight six six five oh five four six two six and this is Scott in Burlington Vermont good evening Scott good evening one night I absolutely love your show thank you note the issue I have is that you know I've worked my entire life from the time I was in high school worked my way through college by Hale paid all my college debt good really quite well I guess you know I'm retired now just getting really frustrated with having to pay for every body else's screw ups I heard the the mayor of New York or the governor of New York talking about how we need this we need that we need the and even the government is not the solution to everybody's problems no but it is a solution to some problems that is true but I think if you call in general need to take responsibility for themselves greed has a great principal and as soon as we can instill that and everybody's heads I think that's absolutely a a very valid point in the meantime Scott we're here now and I'm not sure it well I thoroughly agree with your sentiment I'm not sure the lecture on personal responsibility here and now is going to accomplish a lot I I I would totally agree with you Mr beau Hannon my point is is that I want to win D. O. O. this philosophy into the younger generation by the time the twenty six trillion dollars gets paid back that the federal government is soon going to I'll be long dead and it will be my great grandchildren they will have to do this but at some point beautiful meter harken back to the days of my grandparents homesteaded my great grandparents and really start to take responsibility for themselves and not I need a free cell phone or an extra roll of toilet paper when you buy an S. U. V. or something I I do I I thoroughly agree with your like our guests to respond but again I would simply point out that that some some things that we're talking about may involve a lack of personal responsibility but quite frankly of maybe we should have anticipated this professor Hutton but we did not anticipate that this kind of pandemic they do happen on occasion I'm not sure that we could have anticipated that massive need for things from ventilators to to toilet paper no and I don't think anybody had ever planned that basically having to shut down all of the basically all of the businesses in the United States for several weeks or several months we went to the financial crisis in two thousand eight two thousand nine one of the words you heard a lot was moral hazard people talked about well it was the banks at that point and the bank had screwed up the banks had they had spent a lot of money they had made a lot of bad investments and one of the things that people objected to very strenuously in two thousand eight in two thousand nine in those bailouts was that we were rewarding thanks for their bad behavior but at this point I don't think anybody thinks that it's anybody's fault here that this is really at E. health crisis that nobody Costa the the people that god laid off because there's none of the businesses that are shut down because this and so really good site my feeling is there's only one group that really cancer and that's the government and and I'm I'm glad that I'm glad they're stepping up to do this and by I I would I would have been much more afraid of before I saw what the federal reserve and the US government is proposing to do yeah again the other two circumstances were not entirely comparable let's face it the a crisis came about in large part because some brilliant people principally on the left I might add but there would be a really wonderful idea of people who were not qualified either by finances or by behavior I should have their own homes of the rest of it should simply subsidize what were clearly untenable risks in terms of extending loans and that was dumb from this from the get go and I don't know the city which people got punished but there were plenty who should have been in this particular case I get it's a little hard to put out blame for something that maybe in the future maybe the future road will will be of more likely to to stockpile some of these things here's Howard in the Dallas who calls and hello Howard are you gonna be listen the off and on since the eighties was too large well thank you very much in your in your garage I got a question for the gentleman I'm seventy I'm semi retired I've worked all my life never taken a hand out never would I care about but I'm just curious Emory this file my taxes every year and I still warm I might probably just saw with thirty thousand a year and this year I got a level public dollar tax return which the treasury department they always said make a direct deposit into bite out in my so security is a direct deposit into that same account so what I was wondering how much I would get I'm single I've already raised my kids are in college it's right and what would that the how much would it be would that still be by as a direct deposit and I felt rather than share good points both end before we give you answers as we're coming up on a break to doesn't move will pause and we'll come back with that answer so stay tuned all the Jimbo had a show back in a moment the internet has changed.
Food, Dubious Food
"In twenty eleven in Alabama law firm sued fast food chain Taco Bell for dishonest business practices claiming that Taco Bell's seasoned filling couldn't be called beef under USDA standards because they had it tested and it was only thirty five percent beef. The rest was oats and other fillers Taco bell pulled out all the stops to refute the allegation at a cost of more than three million dollars including parody of Saturday morning superhero cartoon show that they had already for reasons super delicious ingredients force fighting. Baron VAUGHN bland. My Name's Moxy. And this is your brain on facts. Researching conspiracy theories and urban legends. Always gets a little wild like. Did you know that people are die hard? Tim Hortons fans because the Canadian version of Dunkin donuts spikes their coffee with highly addictive nicotine. Of course they don't but that doesn't stop people from believing. It will be skipping over. Stories like the fingertip and Wendy's Chili. That was a failed extortion attempt or the mouse in the mountain dew which PepsiCo defended themselves against by proving that the mouse would have dissolved. Let's start with the biggest name and fast food. The Mac Daddy if you will. Mcdonald's easily holds the records for the most urban legends and conspiracy yarns spun around a restaurant. The topic has its own wikipedia. Page and these. Well predate the unduplicated experiment. That was Morgan. Spurlock super size me listeners. Of a certain demographic may remember the Jimbo. You deserve a break today reaching them about the same time as the rumor that McDonald's stretched their hamburger meat out with Nice. Cheap ground up worms. If you've been online for more than a few minutes. In the past decade he will have seen a picture of a factory machine extracting fat tube of Pink Mush or pink slime as the caption frames. It say hello to mechanically separated chicken. It's all fast food. Chicken is made from things like chicken. Nuggets patties also. The process frozen chicken in the stores is made from it. Basically the entire chicken is smashed and pressed recieve bones is guts. All it comes out looking like this and there's more because it's crawling with bacteria it'll be washed ammonia soaked in it actually then because it tastes gross. It'll be re flavored artificially then because it's weirdly pink it'll be died with artificial color but hey at least it tastes good right. There are little bits they are that are nearly true mechanically separated meat is a staple ingredient in ready made frozen and fast foods but it's made from meat cuts not whole carcasses while beef producers commonly treat meat products with small amounts of ammonium side as an anti microbial agent and assessing in a high volume facility meat and poultry processors. Don't soak the meat in ammonia. They treat it with the gas apart from the included items being wrong. There are a lot of things that are missing. Like the fact that McDonald's stopped using mechanically separated chicken in two thousand and three mechanically separated. Beef was banned in two thousand four due to concerns about Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy Aka mad cow disease and the pink. Slime in the picture is probably what one beef industry magazine writer called. Ammonium treated lean beef trimmings not even chicken at all another glaring omission in the claim. There is nothing in the picture to identify that as a McDonald's facility. Mcdonald's went on the defensive showing how nuggets were actually made and that the mushed up chicken while not especially pleasing to the eye at no point looks like pink. Slime washed down those nuggets with a milkshake. Well there's no milk in that milkshake. There's no dairy of any kind. That's why the menu says shakes and not milkshakes. At least that's the rumor. What are they used instead to make it so creamy pureed cow eyeballs or maybe a little microscopic styrofoam balls for filler or lard or potatoes or seaweed or ground up feathers there are strict definitions food labelling and while. Mcdonald's shakes can't be labeled milkshakes in some areas because they don't contain straight up milk they do contain milk via the soft serve ice cream that's used to make them and they don't contain any of the other things save one. Their ice cream is made from milk. Sugar cream of Corn Syrup and various common preservatives and thinners McDonald's self-serve does contain one item from the Urban Legend List Seaweed specifically encourage Heenan. A safe natural common ingredient bonus. Fact if your food or drink is pink or red in color. Check The label for coaching. Neil a type of beetle whose ground up bodies have been used as a food color for centuries. I'm not suggesting to avoid it unless you're trying to keep kosher. I just think it's interesting. It's probably only listed as natural color. Anyway say you bought more food than you're able to eat in one sitting and you left the rest on the counter for a few weeks. Hey we all get busy. Thanks to all the artificial ingredients in manmade chemicals in boldface defiance of the natural order of things that McDonald's food won't rot. Lots of people have made videos showing the food remaining virtually unchanged after days and even weeks. This is a little bit true but mostly false in case any specify that and not for the reasons you think according to Dr Keith Warner Program Director at the University of Gulf's Department of Food Science and Quality Assurance essentially the microbes. That cause rotting are a lot like ourselves in that they need water nutrients warmth and timed grow. If we take one or more of those elements away then. Microbes cannot grow and spoil food in the example of the McDonald's hamburger. The patty loses water in the form of steam during cooking the BUN is made out of bread and toasting it reduces the amount of moisture this means that after preparation hamburger is fairly dry. When left out open in a room? There's further water loss as the humidity within most buildings is around forty percent so in the absence of moisture or high humidity. The Burger simply dries out rather than rots so no moisture no rot. It's the inverse of the reason. Why the bathroom is the only room in your house where you're locked in an eternal struggle with microbes like mold and mildew speaking of moisture. Who could use a tasty beverage right about now? How about a new COQ? Don't know what I'm talking about. That means one of two things. You're under the age of thirty or the most devious and ingenious marketing effort of all time succeeded or failed either way. The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Set would want you to know. That coke created new coq to cover the switch from sugar to corn Syrup to mask the removal of the last remaining coca derivatives or because people would hate it and demand more of what had been renamed co Classic. Take your pick. Pepsi had an effective ad campaign with the Pepsi. Challenge a blind taste test where lifelong coke fans found out they actually preferred the taste of Pepsi. Coke replicated the challenge in private and found the same thing. So in nineteen eighty-five they reformulated coke to be sweeter and put it out as new coq hip trendy with it and now including TV spots with the supposedly CGI. Max Headroom. You can hear more about in episode ninety six. Do not adjust your set. People hated new COQ. The heated the very idea of coping changed. There were letter writing campaigns thousands of calls a day and people. Hoarding original coke. Were boycotting the brand altogether independent bottlers even sued Coca Cola for lost revenue. It was all over the news all the late night talk shows. You couldn't buy that much publicity for. Could you? People began to speculate that. Coca-cola had launched new coq knowing that people would hate it that it would make people want to buy original coke and that everyone would be talking about it. They created it to fail. This isn't as far fetched a notion as you might think a decade or so later when Pepsi Launched Crystal Pepsi. Can you hear that Van Hagar Song Coke Launch? Crystal Tab? Tab was the first Diet Soda and even though Crystal Pepsi wasn't Diet People inflated the two and Crystal Pepsi went out faster than Jenkins and plastic choker necklaces as for the new coq debacle being a deliberate marketing ploy then company president. Donald Cove said some. Cynics will say that we planned the whole thing. The truth is we're not that dumb and we're not that Smart
Some early thoughts on Texas A&M's next season
"Talking Data Merton Berg Espn Senior Senior College football writer. Let's expand this a little bit on the SEC. Next year a lot of thoughts on on on the West. Lsu Shoe Obviously Alabama probably not going too far Who else do you see? Maybe making a run or do you see anyone making a run at least for the West I I again I think that you take 'em pay Jimbo Fisher. Seventy five million dollars guaranteed to do better than this. Now you've got two years To to get settled battled to to figure out the direction of the program. Now it's time to start competing they're gonNA have experienced. I think on both sides of the ball. They have some spots to fill defensively. I know you lost a couple of receivers to the NFL draft. But if it's not gonNA happen in your three. I think some doubts GonNa be setting in in college station that we we paid this guy all all this money to compete with the likes of certainly Alabama but also now LSU in Auburn when is when are we gonNA get a return on that investment. So I think there's GonNa be a lot of pressure sure on taxes and this is again a team that I think could make some noise on that side and then in the east. You're probably Georgia's Florida again and Georgia's fascinating fascinating because they have to close that gap offensively much like Lsu. DID UNDER JOE Brady and Steve Engineer George GotTa do that now under todd monk and their new offense
Burrow, No. 1 LSU dominate Texas A&M, 50-7

Is the GOP more united than ever because of the impeachment probe?
"This irregular channel of diplomacy. It's not as outlandish as it could be. Is that correct. It's not as outlander says it could be. I might be irregular but it certainly not outlandish. There's a phrase that pays. That was one argument. The Republican Council tried to make in that effort to defend the president from impeachment. You can judge its effectiveness for yourself with US tonight to talk about all things. Political veteran journalist Jason Johnson politics editor at the root and Rick Wilson Republican what can strategist soon to be following up on his first book. Everything trump touches dies with his new work running against the devil due out in early. Twenty Twenty Gentlemen. Welcome to you both Rick. The president said tonight Republicans have never been more united. Is that what you saw watching the hearing yesterday. Look I think what I saw watching here. Yesterday was Republicans who were in a state of of edgy panic and they were trying to talk faster and louder in hopes of trying to pass the fact that those two witnesses stood on the sat there and laid out a timeline a calendar additional facts additional witnesses. This is this was not a good day for those folks and no matter how many times Jimbo baggins gets up there and dances around like a crazy little leprechaun. It's not gonNA shake the the fact that the facts are against Donald Trump and the and the timeline is donald trump at the witnesses against donald trump. And this that was day one. They had a bad day on day want. I don't think it's going to get much better as we go forward. Jason the Democrats we with day one in the books we have learned. They can schedule witnesses and conduct question tonight. Yes when will you have confirmation that they evan deed found the right messaging that with all we have lived through with muller color. Four hundred plus pages. This is the story to tell this story. People can understand because at the heart of it is a phone. So this is we're gonNA find over the next couple of days if Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff are joe torry if they're good managers if they can set up the lineup properly with the witnesses and I think they did a good job. Look this first day you had two people who as you said. They set the time line. They were very clear. They weren't fuss flustered. They didn't allow Jim Jordan or anybody else to ask them any sort of strange questions that got them off the line And I think the Republicans they weren't unified didn't seem to have a coherent strategy other than do you follow all the conspiracy theories that we know about on read it so I think the Democrats effective very very good job. This is GonNa be a knockout punch situation. That's not what's going to happen. What they need to do is not screw up? Lay out the story because the American public already seems to be in favor of impeachment. They just don't WanNa blow that sort of enthusiasm but let me follow up on that. Do you think this hearsay line of argument is catching on and do you think it has has a time limit on. I don't think here's a works because you've got too many people talking about the same story right. It doesn't look everybody out there who's watching this. The people who are at home my grandmother grandparents everything else like that. They've watch law and order they different sweet hearsay in seems like a credible witness and these people come across as credible until someone blows up until someone someone has that Sam Watterson moment where they get angry on the stage. Everyone watching this right now is when they say well. These people seem credible. We've been hearing about the story. And so far. The Republicans haven't given there's an alternative story to think that this impeachment doesn't make sense and that's really the weakness I saw on Tuesday. Rick I have something for you. This is Nikki Haley tonight on CNN on the topic. Uh of Rudy Giuliani. Was it appropriate based on everything you experience in the world of diplomacy for Rudy Giuliani. The president's personal crystal lawyer someone who had no security clearances to be engaged in what's being described as the shadow diplomacy. I had during my time at the United. The nation's I never saw rudy engaged in that way it is best practice if you have a special envoy to handle certain areas and we do that all the time yeah I think they should've named him the special envoy so that everyone within the administration knew what his role was so instead of former mayor. Of New York's special l'envoi envoy Rudy. Giuliani Rick is that the rosiest possible. Reading of the situation Rudy is in question to what is going on. Do you think was Nikki Haley. I think Nikki's missing one of those profound rules in life. The rats are supposed to jump off of the sinking ship rather than on the a sinking ship. And so tonight. She gambled more credibility away by essentially essentially putting your arms around Rudy Giuliani. A guy who is already being dragged out behind the barn. Because they're done with him. The trump people are trying to cut in loose. The Republicans in Congress are going to try to blame this whole thing. Hang on Rudy when it comes down to it. That's their last-ditch scenario and so now she's basically praising Rudy at a moment where his stock has fallen so far with trump personally with with the trump world that it's only a matter of time before he was just a coffee boy volunteer. We barely knew him rudy. Who Jason Ivanovich tomorrow? Tomorrow give us a bit of a preview. We tried to point out the top of the broadcast. We recall ambassadors all the time. Rarely do they say they feel threatened in their personal lives. Rarely does one of the locals say to them. Watch your back when when she's saying I felt threatened. I don't even know why the president was talking about. I mean this is going to be the emotional punch. Got The story I. Now we're hearing people felt threatened. People feel concerned people in the country in the Ukraine. Were like we don't even know what's going on. What's it's dangerous here? And this is where Raju Liani and all these other individuals come into play. It doesn't matter if he was named special envoy. You don't put your ankle breaker on staff right soon. Everyone knew that trump had a lot of people operating in these sort of irregular channels and she speaks to how those irregular channels made regular long-term service. People feel uncomfortable. No and that's going to be the story that Americans take with them over the

Mueller: DOJ policy says we can't charge a president
"We are looking at the words of this past day by Robert Mueller the special prosecutor in the Russia probe. And he has, of course, in those comments made clear that in his view he could not charge the president because of department of Justice regulations that prevent a sitting president for being indicted, therefore, Muller, said those actions were not pursued the opinion says that the constitution requires a process other than the criminal Justice system to formally accuse a sitting president of wrongdoing. N beyond department policy. We were guided by principles of fairness. It would be unfair to potentially. It would be unfair to potentially accuse somebody of crime, when there can be no court resolution of the actual charge. And of course, that is being read as a sign that Muller is saying, I can't take action, but congress certainly can, and therefore, the obvious inference that they should let's talk some more about this tonight with your calls at one eight six six five O, JIMBO one eight six six five five four six two six and with breads Samuels reporter for the hill dot com, the definitive voice of what takes place on Capitol Hill of the nation's capital. Brett good evening. Good to have you aboard. Thanks for me on Jim. Absolutely. I it certainly does sound very much as though Muller is saying that congress should he didn't use those exact words. But it's it was thing to, to note that he would on to say that this was it that he should. His report and he held this public statement this past that's it. He says that he does not wish to testify on, on Capitol Hill. I'm wondering which. People are telling you that there will be subpoena issued for Muller, and that he will be told to show up or else. Yeah. You know, that's something that Democrats and specifically a couple of the committee chairman, Jerry, Nadler, and Adam Schiff in particular, you know, they'll have to kinda way moving forward. You know, whether it's worth it to subpoena, rather Muller, whether it's worth it. Eventually get into, you know, some kind of extended legal battle over that at the special counsel, really adamant that he doesn't wanna show up, but they also have to consider, you know, rather more said today that the report is his testimony, essentially, so he's made it pretty clear that even if he were to be called in front of lawmakers. I think he would be pretty careful to kind of stick to what is in his report. What's already out there publicly? So, you know, Democrats have to really way before they would go as far as the peanut, you know how much they would benefit or how much they would gain from from doing that with a special counsel. There is such an outcry among some Democrats on Capitol Hill for impeachment that you have to wonder if this should be taken this, the, the stated reluctance of speaker Pelosi to proceed. Of course. She's the speaker speakers have considerable power, you have to wonder if in fact, this goes beyond the issue of impeachment itself and goes to the issue of. The extent to which the speaker is in control of the democratic caucus. Do you foresee in the next year and a half or so a challenge to speaker Pelosi and her leadership position? I wouldn't go that far, you know, based on what we've seen two point, I think, to the other point, you know, the opposite point this is actually she seems commanded a lot of respect from even some of those who are skeptical Milton comes to mind, people who have praised are essentially for kind of job, she's done in sort of keeping the troops in order, you know, balancing, those who are really clamoring for impeachment, along with those who are gonna adamant that, that's not the route to go down some both kind of the Safar farther, left wing of the party, and the more centrist wing of the party DC's dose, far, you know, kept everyone relatively happy and in, in line. So, you know, we'll see if that changes, I guess, but so far, she seems to really say you what eight six six five O, JIMBO our number one eight six six five, oh, five four six two six the next year and a half proceed. It's going to be very interesting to see the extent. Which in fact, Democrats, either on Capitol Hill, or in the General Electric are dominated by their left wing, or by those who are more in the center of the, the party's thinking. Here's a call from Andy in Butler, Pennsylvania. You're on the Jim Bohannon show with Brett Samuels of the hill dot com. Hello, andy. Hello, Mr. Bohannon. How are you tonight? Thank you. I'll try thank you. I'll try to be quick. First of all, Mr. Molly said he didn't believe he could bring charges against the Justice Department's policy but not only did not bring charges. He didn't even recommend charges. Okay. And I get the feeling was somewhere along the idea was, it's not positition to bring charges against the setting president. And as far as I know that's not justices call to make supreme court call to make if you felt there should have been charges I think he should have bought them. Let the supreme court decide if it can go forward or not, that's their job. But moreover, we waited two years for this, and we got pulled by the Democrats whole time, we gotta wait for the mall report the mall report and the mall report come out what Mr. Muller said was high congress. This is your job to do funny. Democrats didn't know it was their job to do it. Two years ago, it took them two years to figure out what their job was. Anyway, it points that, that you do bring up Andy. I must say that other than than what has been department of Justice policy. I think that the Andy has a point bread Samuels in that the issue of what is or is not constitutional is up to the supreme court. It may be a view of the Justice department. The constitution requires a process other than criminal Justice to formally accuse sitting president of wrongdoing. But again, clearly if Mr. Ballard have felt distressingly enough about it. He could have since he obviously is not there at the Justice department for his career. That is to say did his job as special counsel and he's gone. Now, he just say policy be damned proceeded and let the supreme court sorted out that would have been an option. I would think yeah. I think we've seen some arguments made from people who. Have liked to seen him bring charges, you know, essentially point out that issue hasn't really been decided by the courts, you know, there hasn't been a case that has gone to the top over whether a sitting president can actually be charged. So I think there are some people who think, you know, these point that he should, you know, if he felt that the president, we're guilty in this matter. He should've brought charges and allowed that to play out in the courts from there. But then some people would have liked to see and do that. But obviously, he, he chose centrally follow the DOJ guideline. And that is his reasoning. One eight six six five O JIMBO, we have Vanessa who calls in from Vernon Connecticut. Hello vanessa. Hi, I'm worried about this situation. I remember when Obama classified the elections as critical infrastructure putting them under the potential control of the and control. I mean, it wasn't as though they were going to determine who won. I mean we. Let me explain. Could I finish? My statement. Yes, what happened is today, fuller is chess player, the noblest play chess. And this is another in which they cleared that our elections are under the attack by countries and the government will take them over the last election was conducted by the military Joseph Francis done for chairman of the joint. I have no idea. What you're talking about in terms of elections conducted by the military, but for Pete's sakes. Come on. That's not even worthy of comment. The elections in this country are not being run by the military or anything else, and the notion that our elections are critical infrastructure. They are and should there be additional protections to safeguard them. Yes, there certainly should be that doesn't mean anybody's being put in charge of anything in some kind of, of vast conspiracy.
Casual vs. permanent part-time: Discussing The Part-Time Penalty
"Cardiff. Martha JIMBO is the economic research director of the indeed hiring lab, we've had her on the show a bunch of times, she's kind of like, the indicators labor market guru or sense, a labor market that's been. Golly. I don't know. Stacey I have called Martha and her team all the names, the indeed hiring lab has been referenced on the show as the vendors of labor market data. And yet you have not yet seen L E vendors totally fallen down in my duty to keep up. There are a lot of vendor movies drives his defense. And I mean, honestly, I haven't seen the new vendors movie either. But it turns out there is kind of a connection between the avengers and the analysis of the labor market that Martha has just completed it has to do with the nature of part-time work. Oh movie idea the avengers go part time. I wonder how Disney would field aren't a lot of the avengers part time as it is. I mean, Tony stark like he like an man he's like part time running a giant not national corporation part. Being a playboy part time saving. Planet earth fulltime making Disney a ton of money time making money. Yeah. I mean in a certain way like the superheroes. Noah lot about parts. True. Just as it is. But it could be an sequel idea studios. Call me, but part time arc, you know. It is a big deal in the US, especially given how many people in the past decade had to take part time work, even though they wanted a fulltime job. Also because of how part time jobs are compensated and the distribution of people who end up getting part time jobs so today on the indicator from planet money, Martha is going to guide Stacey meet through some of the economics of part time work that is coming up right after the break. So workers are considered part time when they work you're than thirty five hours a week and Martha's it's really important to understand the nature of part time work because quite a few people work part time, including a lot of people who would really rather be working fulltime as a share of all the people in the economy. Who work or who want to work? The number of part time workers who would rather have fulltime jobs skyrocketed during the recession of ten years ago because not in a fulltime jobs available to them and that number has been coming down in the recovery. It's taken a very long time to come down. It's neared its pre recession lows, but it's not near where it was in the early two thousands. In fact, if that number did fall to where it was in the early two thousands almost another one million people would have fulltime jobs, and those are just the people who are working part time who are officially looking for fulltime work, some people actively choose, of course, to work part time, Martha's that is not always a straightforward choice to choice to work part time, a lot of people choose part-time work out of necessity, for example, if they have a lot of personal obligations raising kids, and they need the flexibility of a part time job others, of course, might just want a better work life balance wanna work fewer hours, but taking a part time job. She find. Often comes at an even bigger cost. Then a lot of people realize, but one thing that crops up is that we often pay part time workers less per hour than a full-time worker will make so it's not just that they're making less because they're working few hours per week. We would all expect that, but they also get paid less for each one of those hours that they work winning occupation pays less money per hour to it's part time workers than to its fulltime workers that is known as the part time penalty. It's not an official term the part time penalty just refers to the difference that tends to occur between what an hour fulltime work pays. And wouldn't our part time work pays and what Martha has done is to look at the different occupations throughout the economy to see which ones have the biggest part time penalty, and then to try and understand why like what those jobs have in common documentation with the single biggest part time penalty is web developer wages for part time. Web developers are forty nine point five percent less than wages for fulltime web developers and that is our planet money indicator. Part time web developers. Make only about half as much per hour as fulltime web developers and web developer is in outlier, but it isn't actually much of an outlier so Martin Nick found at least ten occupations with part time penalties of more than thirty percent. And if you look at those occupations, you will see that they have a few things in common. So a lot of those jobs are in sales. It's also jobs that in general, it's going to be harder to divide up hours. So for instance, if you are working in sales, you have a relationship with a client. It may hurt you if you can't put in the full-time hours to build that relationship, Martha's, the occupation. That have the biggest penalties for working part time are the ones that require workers to always be switched on to be valuable jobs where it's hard to trade shift with another worker, for example, sales people and also jobs like lawyer and banker where workers have a relationship with their clients. They can't just swap their hours with someone else and expect their clients not to notice these jobs, usually don't offer much, lex ability. So those are jobs that have a part time penalty. But there are also some ocupation that actually pay slightly more to people who work part time. Mar the found that the occupation that pays the highest premium for part time workers is known as miscellaneous personal appearance workers. It's kinda how it sounds people who help you care for your personal appearance. For example. This includes people who work in nail salons and part time workers make seven point four percent more per hour in this nation than fulltime workers, that's the highest wage premium. She found for part time workers and Martha's jobs that pay a part time premium tend to be jobs where it is easy for workers to change shifts with each other, in example of this is the healthcare field where nurses and doctors will often work as part of a group in caring for patients. So if one shift ends another one will pick up the next shift, and generally, there's no downside either for the nurses or the patients and registered nurse, by the way is one of the jobs that pays a part time premium or you can also think of waiters and waitresses that also have relatively Lopez. Realty waiters and waitresses tend to work in a team. They work with the busboy or with the receptionist. We've all had the experience where our server has come up to us halfway through the meal and gone, my shift is ending now. But here's the new person who's going to be handling your table, plus Martha's jobs, the pay their part time workers on par with their fulltime workers also tend to be jobs that you can finish in one set bundle of time that you can schedule for example, hairdressers they do not get penalized for working part time hours because you know, your hair dresser might cut your hair once a month or once every few months, but that hairdresser does not have to be in the salon all the time. So jobs, a penalized part time workers tend to be more rigid and less flexible, whereas jobs that don't penalize part time workers do offer some flexibility Martin says that this fact has at least one big societal implication, it raises the gender wage gap. And the reason is that women and mothers in particular are more likely to choose part-time jobs that don't have a big part time penalty. That's because those jobs tend to offer more flexibility. It makes sense that they would choose these jobs, but those jobs tend to be occupations that also pay lower overall incomes to their workers, so women and mothers end up making less money in their careers, and for that to change either men would also have to increasingly choose those flexible occupations, or the rigid inflexible occupations would have to become less rigid and inflexible so that women and mothers could join them perhaps by embracing more of a team approach at work. Actually, you know, what the events are great example of team based approach where sometimes they trade off. We can all learn from the adventures, right? Like if Tony stark goes down the hall can pick up the slack for a little while. Right. And then Thornton step in scarlet widows doing her thing. Like, we should all be learning from the vendors next time, I'm out sick. Maybe Thornton Stephan.

This clam that I will be jonesing for a hamburger or something. Something other than clams. Maybe three nights a week. And then we'd have like flounder, which by the way ways like my favorite fish in the world, real flounder. You can't really buy it out here. But I didn't like it so much when you have it know once or twice a week, right? Because when you're clamming my dad clammed. Yeah. The flounder which feed on the bottom this stirs a bottom up, you know, whatever they eat. We'll warms or whatever they get caught in the treasure the tongs. Yeah. So that's kind of a byproduct, and he would sell them at the we sold the clams, but always keep some for.
