There there's all sorts of good coming out of this hide. Cast instate is no different. I guess today is jeff davis. Jeff is the founder and ceo of maglio inc. A venture backed creative and media analytics agency famous for building brands on youtube with capabilities to also originate co create and validate new brands. Thanks so much for joining me today jess and it's a pleasure to be with you. It is a pleasure to have you here. And we're gonna be talking about youtube which i have to tell you is such an interesting topic for me because it's one of those things that i play with but i'm not really sure that i am doing what i could be doing to really maximize it so while i know the listeners of this i'm looking forward to getting a lot out of it as how fun. Yeah the one thing that Is been you know since my departure from procter and gamble. We spent more than a decade now on the youtube platform. So it's it's kind of ironic that it's been you know at that platform. You launched in in two thousand six is now quite an old platform. I honestly but still one that i think has major impact for how you create awareness and trump for products. So i look forward to talk to you. Yeah definitely and and you know what everyone says is video is the thing and so while youtube has been around it and my understanding. Is that for the longest time. Youtube has been like the second most searched site on the internet after google. That's correct that's that is still a factor that the second most used search engine people don't get that is youtube behind of course google and all of owned by google And so what. I like to say if you don't have at least a channel if you don't have some content that is searchable with the right words etc you're foregoing the second most you search engine in the world crazy crazy and and i think people might have sort of grown up with this idea that unless you're doing a how to video or sh showing someone had a take a washing machine apart and put it back together. Which is what. My husband uses it for That you don't need to be there but that's not really true anymore. Yeah definitely not in fact if you take a look at the most significant growing trends I haven't seen this now for for for a few months but but it's probably still holds true. You know how to videos are a major growing piece All of several categories including beauty and and skin care and all of that those are major categories and then if you look at the educational components and educational being a very broad topic but if you just take a look at khan academy or or the number of sites on there that are just geared for educational learning. I joke around. You could get from from youtube and it would be more valuable than a than a stanford or harvard degree because the content is so incredibly rich. Yeah that's interesting. I think you're probably right about that. Because it's practitioners teaching what they now. So you're getting it from the horse's mouth so to seek yes exactly yeah okay So what do you think is the biggest mistake that business owners make when they're building a brand on youtube that's actually an easy one and Ended up being one. That has been the case for some time. People are starting to figure this out but one of the biggest mistakes you can make is having content designed for another platform even another digital platform. Instagram facebook video. And that's done just assuming that. Oh you can just repurpose that to youtube. And the reason why i say that is that in general we found we were one of the first Consumer products so one of the famous parts of my story you know having served a couple of decades at proctor and gamble and then leaving and then joining the startup world and my first company was a company called or brush inc a or brush tongue cleaner. And it was this crazy cool product. That was patented from dr bob wag staff and he had tried to sell it to png and he had tried to license it to johnson johnson and it was was a tongue scraper. Ninety percent of bad breath comes from bacteria on your tongue and he had created a really great product t to remove bacteria from the tongue and he had tried to go about it. marketing it With traditional means one of his last failed efforts was a was an infomercial where it just failed miserably. And he ended up meeting with a couple of young guys. Here in lake city utah. Jeff harmon and And neil harmon and jeff was just one of these guys. That really wasn't early guy on youtube and was doing all new. All these insights and outs and And so we ended up launching this product on youtube. I was the angel investor and eventual. Ceo of or brush and the cool story about war shits in two thousand seventeen youtube. Recognize the ten most iconic admiral moments on youtube from the two thousand five launch of youtube and brush was one of those ten. You would've done. You may not have recognized or brush but you would recognize the other nine it was it was always like a girl. Campaign was the jeff gordon. Pepsi campaign was the kyrie irving Pepsi campaign with uncle drew. They were just these really iconic youtube long form campaigns that people are starting to figure out that maybe fifteen second or a thirty second or one minute was not the best way to to create awareness and trial for your products and services

North Central College Fired Up To Vie For Division III NCAA Championship

"Park central college cardinals head football coach Jeff Gordon says the division three championship is what he and his father John thorn before him have worked for with the idea of building good men first when you put the well being of young people before wins and losses on before football it's it's amazing how things fall into place division three players do not get athletic scholarships we play the game because I love again that's really it's a beautiful thing most players are from the Chicago area what will floor until players in the locker room before kickoff against UW whitewater have fun enjoy the moment and and you know be where your feet are because you only get this opportunity maybe once

"Still remember, the, the big rain out and, you know Jeff Gordon, all the leaders rack, Michael Walter by was in there and NASCAR. So you know it's the all star race. Get your backup cars out, man. You wanna talk about just a just insane atmosphere. You should have been in my house during this, because my family were not Jeff Gordon fans. I mean, it was not a Jeff Gordon house. And the fact that the twenty four car got stuffed in a wall. And they allowed backup cars come back out there. My dad lost it. And of course, it goes on to win. Yeah. Of course. So it was just the perfect thing shit. But it was just chaos. I couldn't believe that was such a weird thing. I mean at the end, I'm glad they did with it. Did it it's an all star event you don't want, you know fifteen of your twenty all-stars wrecked out before the race starts. They did the right thing. It was just funny that it was paying to Moni in the Christie house back, then it was serious stuff too. There was lightning and stuff near the track to gather was it was it was crazy. There's a lot happening that night. And there was even question if it would even be ran that night. So it was it was pretty wild. Now. I know there's some good year freaks out there and they are wondering what tire compound are they gonna use this year? Well, they're gonna use the same as last year's all-star rights on the right. And the same compound from Dover in Kansas, this season, on the left that equal four see, I of wish they would go back to trying that multiple compounds that people could select trim. The harder softer medium? I wish they would just do a match set staggered just right. Everyone. That's right. Yeah. One time throughout the race. So everybody waits live, very last. I'll take it me it ready for it. And while they're in the throes of irregular green flag, you know, fuel run, make sure they drop the hammer all of a sudden fourth year. It's time now's the time drop the hammer. Yeah. We were just playing around now it's time to go. We've reached the five hundred mile the coq six hundred it's time to drop that hammer guys engines going nuts. Paying the read law. Seventy five laps down. I haven't got third year. It's like white hot. Oh my gosh. All right. Let's get into our all star race driver spotlight. We begin with joy llegado who. Well, actually, this is more of a question what he wreck teammate to win the all star race. And that million bucks. Wow. No. You can't do that. No, you can't just go out and wreck really anyone because you're gonna pay the price believe me. I know. So I think it's probably not a wise decision. I've always said, moving someone is one thing, reckon someone something different. So that's kind of my opinion on it. I think you gotta race that racist. Same way you would and the other race because the same competitors the ever more aggressive, but it doesn't mean you're gonna go out there and just dump people. Chase Elliott is pretty happy to be in with a win or three to be honest with that. I don't even know what the rules are next week. So I couldn't tell you, but I think it'll be exciting to be in the race. For the first time be Lockton. And, and you know whatever package to this next week, it'd be great, and look forward to being a part of the big show for sure. I just lost track. So, yeah, we'll just roll with it. And like I said, whatever it is. And I'm going to push us ours. I can with whatever. The rules are. So I look forward to it who would chase Elliott the sport's, most popular driver like to see the fan favourite this year. That's a good question. I beyond at the I, I need to look and see who's even in it. I mean, are our my teammates are in it, you know, but you know, I don't know what have to look. We might.

"Garden Rangers of job, four of their last five games, tough loss on Saturday afternoon against Edmonton and the Rangers got to get going here and they've got Colorado tonight in an at Washington tomorrow. So those a lot of good feelings when the Rangers beat the the sharks on Thursday that come from behind victory in the third period end up winning that game in overtime. And I was a big win. David Quinn gets his first National Hockey League win, but a tough loss against Edmonton. When I thought they really had a chance with a team reeling at the back end of a fifteen game road a fifteen day road trip. And a blues game and regulation. You end up losing the next two in the next two days that could be start that really even a rebuilding year can be kind of disconcerting for David Quinn, Jeff Gordon, the powers that be with a New York ranger. So very interesting, early season game for the New York Rangers against Colorado Avalanche tonight, devils off to a three star. We talked about it yesterday. You can get excited about the devils and you should Paul Mary's off to a great start. They're getting goals without the benefit of Taylor hall. Pretty much in their goaltending from Kincaid has been good Burma. They started three in Orlando here, so they're taking on a Dallas Stars team that I'm sure is like biting through chains right now after losing the Ottawa the night before. So the devils will play their fourth game three and against the three and into Dallas Stars, keep an eye on the Florida Panthers team that everybody paved to be a team to beat in the Atlantic Division same for Philadelphia, very underachieving, early in the season, the metropolitan division. So one of the teams that have been the most disappointing in the Atlantic, the Panthers flyers, a little disappointing, two and three two. The season after getting a big win on opening night in Vegas against the Golden Knights. So let's watch this game of two teams, which one of these teams is going to kinda step board here very interested game in Philadelphia connects and the penguins in Pittsburgh Pittsburgh's to one and one, but I would not call them impressive at all..

"In so the only risk san dusky one time so that was the time when we are initially met uh you know than than that was uh uh i think a wing sprint car pave wings bring car race which we won but but somehow that connection led to a lot more uh interacts with him and in him working for for my stepdad in in our sprint car team in the migo in up to new york and and driving a 'super modified fred an in so if you're right away me week we hit it off in quick became friends but also i knew that ainu was a really smart young and talented person is working on the cars and engineering side of itself you'd like to surround yourself with the best people you couldn't in yoad aindi definitely played a big role now that all went away because then he went to north carolina to pursue nascar and and i hadn't gone to north carolina at that point terms may be a year or two later when i got an opportunity and then we reconnect because i in on this the for i'm moving out of the house for the first time never lived down on my own and don't know charlotte or in that area and who'd i go to that does integrate rent and next santa work were roommate's bed and we go from this little small apartment by ito in in in charlotte to a pretty nice house added another friend of ours bob watson in became roommates the three of us we had a pretty darn good time in at that time.

"Frei to two maybe be criticized because the way they handle something i think we all lose and it guess it puts the drivers in sort of a really awkward spot when they have to kennedy in places where the behave badly for everybody to sort of like be invested in the emotion and the passion i guess right yeah i mean look at chase elliott denny hamill last year martensville i think that was one of the greatest moments of the year last year because you got to see a rising superstar on the score a you know kind of go headtohead with a veteran and show that a motion an in show you how devastating that was an in i think that would chase he's very reserved in you don't see a lot of that a denny's kind of been through some of those before uh dan it was just gives a good interaction that i think drew actually i think chase elliott given a lot of fans because that consensus most popular driver for 2018 right now i think in large part mood because that we her loud that immediate certainly think he's uh towards the top the list of not at the top definitely in the running and zinni dropped a couple you might never have won the most popular driver award but you certainly had your legions of fans and i don't know if you're aware of this but today somewhere on the grounds of daytona the hall of fame committee is meeting does at today yes to determine the nominees for may i'm a voter sideswiped serve aware of this will be voting on will hold on if you're here then.

"And and and i can't blame bradfort for your being aggressive the way he did he was trying to win the race to uh it was more of that at this wasn't happy that that basically took me out of the race afterwards on pit road because i was angry about that i just wanted to have a discussion with them you don't end in lease give you know tell him my displeasure ward i didn't like about it and we could debate it but the problem was that he had he would look at me and you know if if you're if you're an argument are you're you're upset with somebody and they won't even look at you that just fires yup even more road and obviously kevin was in the background watching this happened and there were some big pit crew guys that were in allowing me to get through to to have a discussion there were no intentions for that to turned into what it turned into um i actually think had those guys not been they're trying to keep me back and i could have gone up talk to him it just would have been a heated conversation are those moments you think we need more of the nascar i especially now being on the fox iin in the broadcasts side i realize how important it is for there to be passion in in the rawness of emotion whether it be negative or positive that it's an important aspect of of the sport because that's what draws people in that's what connects people to that person in it could be your the way that they they handle themselves in that situation or could be the way that they you to get excited when they win whatever may be that's what people that's what fans because how and why they become fans of a driver because that reminds them of either himself or reminds them of somebody they'd like to be friends with and hang out with yeah and in or or as it may be they compete in something and they go yeah if that were me this is how i would feel about it but when somebody doesn't show any of that or you know there too.

"A than i anticipated but certainly much closer than what he had vader and so i i i saw that i thought okay pushing this year little bit no big deal it's not like as being records i just call it slightly aggressive and his arm comes out the window and gives me the finger and i i had to chuckle i just kinda wave back in smiled and laughton he didn't give it a second look i i don't think he had any clue young who i was and so i just kept on going in i got to daytona and in so from that that time by the time i got to daytona i just started laughing get you know i'm going to tweet about this because i just started i was kind of funny in in if i could have said something to the gentlemen what would i have said because he was totally in the ryan i was in the wrong uh in so turned into something fund the uh any other those are the kinds of things that pop in your head of her once in a while and you wanna put him down on on uh on paper in this case on social media and i did and i'm glad the fans enjoyed it and so does this happen often with jeff gordon driving if national vehicles now again it's a rare nerica my if you talk to my wife about my driving she would say oh my gosh you the slowest driver you know you it means she probably would say i write a little bit too close sometimes the car in front of me i guess it's habit but but other than that no i i i'm pretty calm yohan in in if anything the opposite from from a driver standpoint cow on the on the road while in the unlikely event he is listening following again thank sure he accepted lancashire tell me as number one so you were also jeff on siriusxm last week if people have heard this as well but you're on there with kevin harvick on his show and the discussion came up about the race at texas a few years ago iraq has lasky and i was fascinated to like you're you guys reflect on it first of all because it's funny how.
