"The board here for the really big barbecue show Boeing we cook because we have to and we grill the hi this is Gina Della from Port Saint Johns Florida and you're listening to the really big barbecue central show word of the wise check it if you haven't done it in a while check it like tomorrow or before the weekend before your next cook so you don't screw it up show on podcast starting in about an hour from now actually two hours from all whole day tomorrow though of course the segment brought to you by firebird boil water once a month stick him in there make sure they're reading to twelve picture that sometimes they get out of calibration and if you don't check it you don't know computer it's running in the background hooked to the L. A. N. They couldn't have been simpler and I have three inputs plus a pit temperature looking for a reliable automatic like remote thermometer that you can use your computer with that comes with the network like five seconds but you're up and running in no time flat one hundred percent the truth I took it out of the box I turned it on it found by off visit more by find out more by visiting fiber dot com or call eight one six nine four five two three two that's eight one six nine four five eight to say that and then I decided this day I am going to use it and then really intuitive app that logs notes you can do all this plus six inputs you can literally measure aided items if you've missed the first hour what could possibly offend more important I'll let it slide this time luckily I'm recording so you can get the in pitcher pro it's so easy it's accurate I did tested in boiling water of course which I highly recommend that you do even if you have the therm pens and all that crap to monitor up to six different temperatures simultaneously connect to Wi fi for cloud based monitoring or connected via the Bluetooth and if you have good work I put the password in the little box was ready to go where you plug all the inputs in I got online made the quick account now I can see graphing on Alexa or the Google assistant urine home you're at at home your unlock because fire board is fully integrated with four with got it up and it was as e you know that was the other thing a lot of times you hear this is easy to set up or take no time to go up and running right out of and then you really get down to it and you start putting to to to get nine extol fire board says Super Easy Hook it to your prob- If I wanNA use one and I still have room for three other probes you can load it out was six total so it will be two of the three to internals and a ambi are six internal meet temperatures differently or six all with one if you have a huge cut of Lyon you can stick six different temperature probes in that kind of line but I'm telling you unsolicited this time unsolicited. When I was reading the read they were paying me to do that but this is unsolicited it? If you don't have a fire board it is the forest Tuesday of the month that's the correspondents thank you don't forget you can follow me socially away from a nostalgic standpoint of the show Bill Minihan who was on the show I don't know if it was semi-regular in ten minutes or less this Friday if you can believe it we are episode ninety five that means if my math is correct five weeks from now we will be an episode one hundred episode ninety five however takes you back to October Twentieth Twenty fifteen so almost four for Christmas or if you're looking for a gift because you think you have everything and if you don't have a firebird go to your love your wife whatever girlfriend up maybe I would talk shit about it but lo and behold it's magic it's so easy you gotta go get I'm telling you right now if you are asking for something Ashby Bq central show on facebook if you WANNA do that thing no problem coming up on the best moments of the barbecue central show the dog shit pc saw working bbq central show on Instagram and twitter and tick tock slash at BBQ central show for all of those slap sex love or whatever you like and say hey person I wanNA fire board this year you will thank me later you will thank me so easy do one story before we get into the embedded correspondent segment but now I want her four years ago why do I know him John why did I have him on boy I hate to say that but you talked to so many people and BBQ confessionals while I cannot say that when I was watching or reading this guy he said that he was ward I know who Chad is and he don't know me anymore if it's Chad Warren I apologize I just don't remember in the second hour welcome aboard gear you found the barbecue central show we talk about barbecue but I don't know a lot of things transpire during the course of the show but when he was on a great ball of energy and always had a take not afraid to share it he was a great gift and then so versatile super easy to set up I can't believe how easy was Sir I'm on a tangent here but let me tell you something still to come on the show tonight apart Daniel Vaughan also stopped by to talk about being the Texas monthly barbecue editor right now I have to stall because I was going did I feel very passionate about now because as I had said when they sent me one and I didn't pay any money for it but when they sent me one I chucked it right in the drawer Chad war and here's where I need to apologize I don't know who had worn is any Chad ward or chat I share a different story with you because I just mentioned Daniel Vaughan if you are on social media and the problem here like in the crackle he just falls through the cracks my humble apologies chat my humble apologies so that's the first part of best moments event in the Second Ryan and monitor all secrets the same time is so not so easy well worth the money great Christmas gift if you haven't thinking about this is on the we had just got done with our first of three days of shooting hadn't eaten any barbecue that day because we were saving it for the last two days at dinner that night in Alpine we all ate Louis but he was he had been on a couple times what a great personality bill was I don't know how we lost contact or maybe he just got out of barbecue or maybe I just stopped reaching out maybe you did see this maybe you didn't see this but there's a account called. BBQ confessions in one of their vehicles drove down the gas station at the gas station bathroom I immediately threw away my underwear in the trash for the show I hadn't eaten all day and was hydrating as much as I could I held down the puking but it was definitely not but years to the day actually a little over four years to the day and I part is a barbecue roundtable and I hate to admit this is going to take the countdown after this but basically he finds names in the industry to to give Barbecue Confession and here's one from but I am not going to lie about it we had Robin Lindores on this competition on this round table we had bill Minahan a two to three to have a fire board I've had it for a long time and for the majority of that long time it sat in a drawer I the same thing except I had a salad with chicken fried steak which is what I'm guessing got me sick back at the hotel I woke up at two. AM with sudden urged to use the bathroom which is never a good thing makeup blah blah blah Take a picture with the whole crew and Dodd Buckman. Am to drive to the first location as we got to convenience West in marfa midtown after shooting background scene early show had the same outfits on hop back to the car and headed back to the shoot we made it through the rest shoot got back in my car drove seven and a half hours central Texas Barbecue available today own for three generations by the same family the oldest barbecue joint Texas they ship nationwide thing on the tray not clean the trae but a piece here a piece there shoot a couple of times forcing a smile like I'm feeling good about it as I by the way he was sick not I mean it is growth he was sick sneezed crap his pants left to go to the gas station help you develop something new private label opportunities also available visit South side market dot com that's southside arket dot com and when you order use code BBQ central but I was definitely not farting with confidence party with we sit down at large tray of food I realized the way the producers wanted to shoot this was to have us eat every freshened up best he could and to stay consistent stayed with the same clothes which was ballsy and then drove eight hours home after ride all meets process on the USDA inspected facility a trusted partner with a focus on quality and authenticity wholesale options available right now shipping nationwide cleaned up as I could spread my shorts with a breeze that was there changing clothes was not an option sense we needed continuity from shot to shot and we because I was a little worried about how hard it was going to be to set up and so it sat there for months then I decided to give it a try because I thought on a lot of topics to get to right off the Bat John Solberg for Michigan a quick recap if you have any by the way but me I by the dozens barbecues central show once again here's your host Greg Remedy all right welcome back all one word lower case BBQ central ca ten percent off your entire order this time the next time and the time after that just keep going ten percent off BBQ Central Steve Ray for a mood eloise Tennessee we have John Solberg top ride and Michigan we have the longest ranging correspondent doug shining in Texas bottom left and the monthly visit from a doctor a barbecue a man actually named Me Dad the author of a Barbecue Bible bloggers reviewers competitors manufacturing national championship is getting ready to come off here in a couple of weeks all the teams have been invited everybody's ready to rock and roll so hey now this portion of the Shell is being brought to you by submissive you that's right hey did you know that Smithfield's now the fact wow we gotta ask him about that next time Noda we're leading with that Daniel hopefully this doesn't get back to our we have the embedded it's a magical backdrop it's a magical backtra I love what what did you do how do you have it set up there John I have a sound enclosure nation with the blurry background is with these cameras all of a sudden like you guys got cameras and then I'm not talking about you John Specifically and Doug switched off so well I think I think it looks the color looked very warm and inviting that's what I'm trying to say I don't I really don't know what the fastener on this to try to drown out the other noise while I'm recording the best moment show so just basically a couple of sound baffles behind me on three sides like three inches of mineral in these walls yeah that's a look forward to in the next couple of weeks it is the fourth Tuesday of the month and that's all I really need to say the abetted poorest parts and we have Smokin with Smithfield dot com for all the deeds if you are not familiar with that also check back to that website every now and again you never know what's going to be happening out there no where near the radar what are your thoughts on world food championships I would love it to be on my radar but I find it extremely difficult to follow you can't keep behind me in a couple of days traps in the corner just for effect I have no idea why it's boring it's you got to figure that one out you don't know why it's blurry no that's that's a toggle blurry do I have a blurry background there's there's a connection issue do I have a blurry background and my blurred no no okay am I were it on a day to day basis they don't update their social media sites in my opinion they never update the website. You can't figure out what's going on it's just hard to follow David Hoffman Oklahoma right there on the bottom right appreciate you making time as always as we do it here once per month towards the end of each and every month Inca David has never used the blur which I certainly appreciate but for instance I was just talking with Steve a couple of hours ago there was no blur and he has decided to just throw the blower back on again the can't wait to see how the first annual National Barbecue Championship goes down in New Orleans three days of cooking I believe so you might have a more professional looking backdrop than me and that is hard to do by the way status Steve is running a very close second although it I I it's hard to follow what about you David David you on mute updating their website and even their social media etc I was learning more from just fellow IBCA members that were there and looking at their web pages you can't do that I'm going to get through it as your backdrop is magical John I mean it is yeah I agree with what John said not only that but I don't know I don't feel like he gets the publicity the marketing it doesn't get the and I be ca standpoint that it's not it's not being promoted to them to come out and Cook it or or were you hearing conversations and saying hey steve two months in a row that's right that's right so all right let me go back to you again John World Food Championships Twenty nineteen and I'm not going to ask you to to make sure I didn't WANNA yell at Steve to two months in a row because yeah so that's why I just kind of fished it out there before I went ballistic yelling at me force interject I didn't touch if I could interject quickly my border was off and when this call picks up the turns on I just wanted to shut it off Dallas is going to have over three hundred teams really yes loud I mean it's not like it's a low cow kind of thing it break it down or do any of this stuff but and this is the same question for all you guys just for high level is it on the radars at off the radar is that like switches on on on the call got undo it all right got it so your victim right dog I had no idea house which all right yeah no problem all right I just wanted I do have one interesting piece of information I heard that Johnny trigg did not actually cook his mate that he had a higher so that's kind of how I've follow Jackie through it you know you mentioned David in terms of big barbecue contests does anybody have an idea how many they're gonNA do the world foods or I'm going to do this competition you know it's one or the other foods at all not many people were talking lives are difficult to watch and listen to I'd love for it to be on the radar but it can't be unless you have someone on the ground like Doug does whose closed inconvenience information there you are trying to cut back L. Problem and now it looks like you might have done it I did it switched itself Oh all right so that's why yours is on as well so doug thing about world world foods I mean I know that that they had nine no-shows is what I her so nine out of twenty eight pretty big you know Jackie Ibca T. M.'s. There were this year now guesses twenty eight eight that sucks that's oh I didn't I didn't hear I didn't hear much about it other than I did talk to a couple of people afterwards that told me told me a few details do you think from terrible so to give you a point of reference the WAX Hatschi event that she mentioned yes that's going to be up there which is up near doesn't get the the notoriety and that was one of the reasons move into to the Dallas right we all thought that they would get more IBCA type teams was almost non-existent wasn't that one of the reasons that they moved to Dallas as well I heard it was blamed on the Dallas cowboys game in the in the State Fair but ancient that that you know a few things to work out and she didn't have problems with move in the early birds they got there I had to wait two and a half hours before they got their act together fanfare that some of the big barbecue contests do and so I don't think it has the same following I know that I don't think anybody around here knows about could we want to get me fine is long term the world food championships the way they know about barbecue contests All Right Doug your thoughts both championship yeah I mean I was like John was saying in terms of them other and they could move them into different spaces and they just didn't have it you know well thought out I did hear that attendance that the on on purpose or do you you've been a victim idea it automatically Chano Bono liberty uncooked meat Do you have any way to prove that this came from a very reliable source that was at the contest and said it was jd Henley Jedi one of the top critics jd Henley is doing the cooking for Johnny trick that is what I heard really yes wow all right well that's a bit of and what you want to see is in colorful miss or just blinking and jumping up and down like a flashing red twenty nine hundred a website there's a large large landing page there's a lot of big colorful buttons and oh I didn't cook the Ibca the Arctic qualified in the eat. I I saw a thought I saw maybe I'm wrong it doesn't matter it just doesn't fit this I John John I'm I'm torn here because I think so if you go to the here's the problem if you go to the ever do get to go back again it will be for barbecue it will be for some like a steak hamburger sandwich now I understand the the problem with found found all kinds of information on the website is updated daily wouldn't updated minutely but it was updated every night Ryan Haglund winning dish Mahal Wagon rebuy and it's all steak right barbecue is it just doesn't fit this concept and you know what one Burger do you love this greg guess what kind of bird one wagon burger no Bubba Burger George Boats Smash Burgers I'm sorry it just does not I don't care who cooks what how many teams I thought they had like sixty seven teams in the IBCA Competition Doug and I heard that they were trying to kind of keep things on the down low but that's what that's why the source will remind I know somebody that I can ask about that at a later date you know your other favorite city Cleveland Cleveland up no no no there's another favorite city you love it New York City no it's an exciting a very exciting Event the the kitchen is is wonderful when two years ago I would have loved to gone back again you gotta find I gotta find that but it's just a very very small top letters right above all the other colorful stuff where it says results or like event and exhibit and all this There's a real nice synopsis of it and anybody know where the final table is it's on the website anybody know what the final table isn't spring confirm back to you on that then we'll all right Steve let me get your thoughts on on world through championships and how you think it's operate well I still love very small above all the color all that stuff and then you can find the results that's really got to be addressed because you look over at your excited when you get on the pain I should he won that he did Muscles Alabama did with the hometown Smash Burger all right well that's great well you like twenty something in the heat and sixty something in the Ibca I was told twenty eight saying no shows and in a couple of people that had qualified reloaded hey you know what I thought was weird though world barbecue champion Ryan Murphy Cook the winning dish was wag US take dinner the world's state champion in results but it's not there where it is is the way at the top and very little letters it says twenty nineteen results it's what Indianapolis that's my favorite city hobby number twenty guess what is right on the website seems to be such a download of information on their facebook page that if you're not there as it happens it can quickly so I don't know how you rectify that situation but there's there is a overwhelming amount of information on their facebook page like where the location where the locations table I've I have no idea everybody's shaking their head what's your what's your favorite city Chicago what they're talking about I would cut those out I don't I don't think they'd do much to enhance the coverage of it unless they want to dedicate a facebook page two the crap so that needs to be addressed I found a lot of information through their facebook page I guess the only problem that I have is a full day where you can you know where you can come in and come out instead of them coming in and coming out to your feet all right that's GonNa do it for world championships now let's get to the topic at Hand Gang we've been practicing for this we've been consuming for this we've been generating food love affair with the brisket specifically brisket sandwich which really from a lost through the scroll and like I'm somebody that refuses to scroll for anything like if it doesn't show up after I do the mouse button once like I'm onto the next thing reviews for this and we're supposed to happen last month but obviously it didn't for good reason and this is the what appears to be a fast and it's all the time and every day and this person's a new sponsor and this is the person of charity and this person's going to be featured and it's going to be cooking Steve Degree that there is a a a huge amount of info that's being presser that facebook page right enormous amount facebook live things weird because it cuts in old school or traditional sense brisket isn't a sandwich tried you go to barbecue shop and you say I want to in your mouth maybe get some white bread on the side but has anybody ever seen anybody use white bread on a frigging barbecue trae I mean I have never seen it it's like a I baron holds one set here let me give you many slices of ten cent bread on this Twenty four hour piece of meat that I smoked into I don't understa antic -ly smoked brisket sandwich and I said well this has got to be gentlemen please the embedded correspondent site then I said not only that go to your Arby's because Arby's has had brisket on their menu for years now it was originally especially and the white bread on the barbecue trail but it's not a freak insane right so subway recently come out with their subway off go to your local or your local subway and get this subway brisket sandwich and evaluate and we're going to talk about it on on to this and they slice it and they put on a tray and maybe there are some pickles and onions or Jalapenos or whatever you decide beans what you sit down and you pick the meet up Youtube Star you have a Palette that is second to many so tell me about your experience with subway sandwiches I sandwich the brisket smokeout sandwich that has made its way onto the regular menu unless I'm completely off base there but every time I go it's on there and I said get the brisket smokeout sandwich the subway sandwich eat them both make notes and then we'll compare contrast potentially pick a winner here on the barbecue central show so David huff you are a budding intaking thermometers to the restaurant at all that was fun but the subway brisket Sandwich best summed up like this I brought mine home that's how we will go around we'll do subway I I sure like the field assignment of the thermometer in the stakes a hell of a lot better than the subway sandwich I let my wife take a bite she looked scrap me and said that's not brisket if my wife can point that out that that pretty much says I think one of my other guests said that I was due for doing that by the way but now all of a sudden it was a great idea what I love how we have revisionist history but anyway go ahead I didn't second season when that do took over as host and then everybody was like Oh this is the worst ever we wanna go back like nobody likes taking thermometers to restaurants all you need to know it didn't look like brisket demy if so it looked like it was definitely sliced the wrong way it looked pressed little chewy detail you know this is funny David that you mentioned that this is almost like when we evaluate barbecue pitmasters you know everybody hated the version when they followed all the teams around because nobody want but then the so was not a fan of the texture was not a fan of the flavor was not a fan of anything about it but would you ever get it again then absolutely not absolutely I tried to get it without the barbecue sauce so I can actually taste brisket itself I regretted that it was one of those ones that should have been smothered into good barbecue sauce due to cross the board only because I did swallowed Steve Your thoughts on subway is awful coral it was a Washington steaks I drove ninety miles to another subway got another one for me it was so bad it even the girlfriend she couldn't swallow it and that's skit sound Georgia's looking to use the word brisk because it's so popular it's brisket Texas brisket we cooked it for fourteen days we you know brisket sound it doesn't look like that it doesn't look like that it's that thin it's that then when you get it it's all pressed it's all brand subway every everything we looked at for this long is brisket we we we have a guy that's in the back of the restaurant that's all he does is cooked brisket brisket brisket brisket brisket fried is it firehouse subs is a sandwich firehouse subs pier one of their subs never brisket at firehouse up that's I'm a watch to make it the brick sliced roast beef Smoked Cheddar who's ever put smoked Cheddar on all right John Silber well I'm GonNa go right out the gate it was so bad I did it twice because I thought maybe the first time was up Doug for his review this just shows that Texas brisket is ingrained in the people down here y'all are taste the meat so it was tender yes it was thin but it was tender it had a decent smoke flavor in it even had a little bit of fat on it last name has gone from shy to subway doug subway now I will quickly review for me I'm like seventy that he ordered it liked it and it was actually cut to a quarter inch if you can believe it hold on Doug I'm GonNa get your so let's go to I five percent of you guessed it was perhaps one of the most horrific sandwiches that I've ever had in my life the meat was he will now well I have to agree with everybody here now I am getting a dissenting review in the instantchat were John Dawson of Patio daddy o Barbecue does say Ooh you know what I actually eight the brisket so if I scored I'd scored twos across the board I couldn't give it a one I just there's no way I could get but I'd score crazy the I went got a twelve inch bristled sandwich and I said make it in he asked me what I wanted on it right maybe I'll put all the road while you're driving I actually thought it would be good for that and I would definitely get it again really doug interested in putting out the word brisk and they did a good job because they wrote toward brisket on a poster but when you get to sound tastes like shoulder clod on hold it's a tuna salad place okay now they got brisket they just WanNa use the word brisket it's just like it's just like McDonald's wants us to use the word not ask my sandwich artist by the way I used to be a sandwich arte so I knows what goes into it and I wanted the full brisk experience it's almost like when we talk about the impossible burger and you know how could the impossible you're really be that bad I mean the impossible watt processor how the impossible while we're really be that bad when it has up two slices it was insulting it was terrible and it was demeaning to me and everybody in the barbecue community except Doug and it should be out of the menu immediately and by the way if I may lead which is brisket and that is if you're any barbecue restaurant of yourself you don't put brisk on the bottom of every on anything it's always above everything that is the lead that's what people want to come in and get it's the hottest thing right now it was super thin it had a horrendously fake master Ramona's yeah he's just like the pillsbury dough boy the jolly green giant he's any marketing icon that you want to believe something as often well he's been cooking for thirty eight years if you read all the information so he must know what he's doing you know how many antic now let's go to the most credible source here on this panel dog subway who must be best friends with Ramon the pit mixed of the impossible Walker same thing goes here if you're going to start putting on all the subway craft goes on every other subway sub well then you're burying the lead looking smoke ring it tasted not like brisket and there were two freaking slices on a six inch ketchup and mustard onions pickles and tomatoes and all the other crap that goes on top of a hamburger. 'cause it's hiding the impossible Burger love Doug also doesn't like hotdogs as we know so those two things combined makes me very much question his taste the longest run goals in a little bit of barbecue sauce I thought it was actually very good I liked the crunch of the pickles the saw as actually complemented you can way restaurants are strewn across the country I mean this guy must never get sleep wow we all right so dug likes it everybody else's like now let's get on with Arby's smokehouse brisket sandwich and we'll start with Dave unusual we're talking about brisk right we're talking about brisket where are you going with this Mr Tasty Sandwich I thought it was good I ate the whole thing which wasn't my intention Atkins Guy so I paid that price all night for it I probably wouldn't get another one brisket is very enjoyable and it might have to deal with everything else that's I think the loaded one comes with like the fried ribs you know rib the mcrib because we WANNA WE WANNA be on the Barbecue tree but they're not they're not interested in putting out a good product being embedded correspondent and the first fire that's not true I've been fired multiple times already hi actually thought this would be a perfect you know if you're on a road trip or drive in whatever stop in at your subway in get the sandwich and eat it on all things on I said make it how most people like it he said okay this get cheese either after damn green peppers red onions read from the cold been or it was put in a cardboard boat and then sent into the microwave for a flash reheat and I did onto going down to Franklin's restaurant in Austin say yet put a couple onion rings on with that brisket onion straw and the cheese and I like Arby's horsey sauce that that horseradish flavor so I actually don't mind it for a enjoyable saying I for for this video look at the inside okay this is the subway looks Jasey Look Nice it looks nice juicy all right closer back up sociable tastes brisket has got its own it's it's wonderful meet hard taste and these service all bread they got a little piece of meat on it and they get the huge bun you eat it you fill up on the button you know what these guys are doing they're not they're not looking to serve a good John who is I don't know but I just logged this rant by the way David do you have any idea who so much but I wouldn't say it's necessarily a brisket sandwich either John I agree with David I I didn't taste brisket in there but I thought it was it was a good sandwich and but is it a brisket sandwich it's debatable seat it was just a little a little more tolerable than the it doesn't happen weird piece of cheese on what was it provolone was online think Greg I sent you a video I don't know if you watch oh I thought the are now I actually enjoy the Arby's sandwich not because I believe it's a true brisket sandwich but I believe the flavor of it while not delicious brisket sandwich of the two that I had would I be looking to go fetch another one here after the show's over will I think Stephen all in all honesty you didn't seem like you hated that well no I was just trying to describe it it looks tender it was it was real tender but it but on the Arby's smoke house brisket well it was nine seventy three wouldn't came with a drink and curly fries and you know I love curly fries but mind smoke flavor of some sort on the Arby's meat and by the way for somebody who is very very scrubber who in the Suite Thuc is pit master Ramon Steve Who's pitmasters remote subway sandwich but it would be it because it's got barbecue sauce on it it's got an onion ring what can you imagine I book and I could taste a little bit of either vinegar or perhaps liquid smoke in the brisket and it was pretty tight I did a salacious news they're coming out of the Tree Cam just another reason why he will never talk to me again as we're talking about it here on the show do you think he would admit to that fast about getting another one like anytime soon oh probably not but it was way more relatable to what I would consider discerning when it comes to barbecue sauce I didn't think the bar the Arby's barbeque sauce was really that bad you know all things considered so it has sugar on it and it was so it was sugar on top of sugar too much to meat ratio which is a cardinal sin in my not like it at all well let me continue to be with the other seventy five percent of the panel here this was easily the most the grocery store shelf in it's overly sweet and it's pumped full of magic smoke trap and all that stuff so it's not out of the thought process that they would probably go that route did not have provolone so mine had Cheddar just like the the subway horsey sauce and I do like the horsey sauce because that'll drown out almost anything disapproval on cheese or something like that a lot of sauce a hundred a lot of the euro sauce and that's what I taste tasted tangy sauce stanton too sweet I couldn't taste brisket and when I took a bite might had bacon on it and when I took the bacon comes off in one strip better to be barbecue between the two there was way more than two freakin pieces on the RB sandwich than there was on the subway sandwich there was in fact that would probably be the only redeeming quality if they would've put Horsey shot sauce on the sandwich it was terrible the barbecue sauce way Ah Doug let's be honest here when you're making food for the incredible masses I mean that sauce is going to win every time I mean just opened up a bottle of any sauce on I mean this was if we're raiding the subway would for me was like to like Jon said and then the RB Sandwich was probably going to be an eight if were that much discrepancy for me in in between the two if I had to go get another one of those I would get the Arby's ten times out of ten she's starting to get to the Kenya open the cheese part was to the to the meat in it looks very looks tender sandwiches don't have that and and they're just pass it off as brisk and it's not they could call it a roast beef sandwich and people go filled our dogs way in knows what kind of meat it was it looked like it it "This is Bloomberg reiter with Big Hawk on. You're listening to the show barbecue with Gregg Rush. Have you board here for the really big barbecue show Boeing. We Cook because we have have to. And we grill because we want to get me the following thirteen dead in the crackle the go-to salty when dog shit. PC working right now. ooh All right. Welcome back this is the barbecue central Shell and we are in the second hour. It's a show that talks about barbecue and grilling items from time. The time we get outside the box and talk about fast food trends heaven forbid that you are now just coming across the show and you missed the first hour first of all you missed a classic conversation with Travis Clark. The best competition barbecuer out there currently and I will say ever to light a fire. He won the Jack Daniels World Barbecue Championship featured this past weekend. He is auto qualified for the Jack Daniels. Five years in a row. This was the year that he one. I don't think there's any other team that does auto qualified defied five years in a row. So that's a huge deal all on so he's also opening a restaurant that they're shooting in that three four or five weeks. I mean certainly I wanna get down on when that really happened because we all heard Dr barbecues trials and tribulations with getting that open open and we all heard how expensive Michael Simon's Barbecue Restaurant in Cleveland was here on the show to get to open so three weeks could mean three weeks. Three weeks could mean three months. We love the bet on things here on the show but we'll let it slide. Hopefully it's three weeks. It sounds like it's really close. It's really big and really so. Hopefully I will find my way out to Oklahoma City which I've heard is a fabulous city my brother Love's Oklahoma City and will eat some of Travis's barbecue and the beat him in person actually for the first time so that'd be fun do on a the number of different levels maybe do a recording out there as well. Why not then? We talked with Craig Bar who is currently and successfully taking taking Popeye's chicken to court. That case is going to trial by the way and while all I could easily take the next seven and a half for thirty minutes to unpack what Craig was laying being down last segment. I thought we were on a path of working through the Popeye's stuff wanted to build a little background. Get a little buy in from the audience. I didn't WanNa just put them on and immediately start art grilling 'em about this popeye stuff. Come to find out. He's a tower. One World Trade Center survivor over. He is now in Chattanooga. He's a filmmaker he's looking to shoot a film and what I said. Give me some idea. It's about something happened. A switch flipped and he went into what sounded. I'd like a monologue of the whole. Catch the film. Maybe it was and he he is God. It's so memorized. And it's just so part of his psyche now if somebody says. Hey what's the movie about. Boom he goes right into character and and away he goes because for that. Two minute stretch. He was a whole different purse then he came out of it. We talked about Popeye's things that were notable label in that conversation were I. I was unclear whether it's a joke lawsuit or if he was serious. If it's a cash grab or if it's not if you just want to prepare for the vehicle but it sounds like he he doesn't and then at the end what I can truly put my fingers into some time of substance while the release piece of the new Popeye's chicken sandwiches coming out on Sunday. He has a additional plan of attack. That he is going to launch launch in a similar time fashion. That is really going to shake the foundations of this whole suit between Craig Bar and Popeye's chicken and I hope Craig if you're listening. I hope I've made it poignantly. Clear that while there may be other bigger more broadcast broadcasting style networks. This is going to be the only show where you're going to be able to come on and have forum and be able to use any words that you want you would have been either dumped or kicked off of any other radio interview because you swore you probably know it's Internet radio and there's no FCC regulation but you don't WanNa go on radio you WanNa be who you are Falker. A shit comes out one that to be organic. I don't want you to have to be guarded. I think he felt pretty comfortable. And you were just kind of running with somehow how we were talking about the earth. I think there was a mention of something around nine hundred miles per hour. At one point we were scooting around seventeen or sixteen hundred miles an hour. There was negatively there was positively. I think Caraba doesn't make really good pasta. Sauce people are busy. The food is great. How does Popeye's run out of chicken one? That's all being made at a factory and being distributed many points being made in that site. Wow so if you missed it you have to go back starting tomorrow as the PODCAST is released into the feed first hour tomorrow and second hour on Thursday by the way coming up here and the remainder of the show emily detweiler from KCBS SOB joining me. Thanks giving generalities talk as well. Make sure your subscribe to the podcast or let me lead off with this. There's probably all going to get to if you listen to the show last week you heard my Texas embedded correspondent flowed out that Johnny trigg might not have cooked the WF F- CIBC a portion of the contest and that Jd Henley from Buckshot. Barbecue was the one that actually did the cooking at that time. I didn't realize that smoking triggers had won the IBCA portion of that whole world championships contest. At once I learned that a number of questions surface and I started really digging and see if I could get some confirmation on who the actual cook for that team was touch the number of teams and other insiders all confirming that they were hearing similar rumor but no one was able able to give me a one hundred percent confirmation one way or the other. So this past Sunday I reached out myself to JD. Henley for clarification Asian also probably around the same time Texas and buddy correspondent Doug Shining had also reached out to jd. and Monday afternoon. We got the following being statement if you will some JD. And I'm just paraphrasing because I had Talked to Doug on the phone. So it's not a written quote. But what I'm paraphrasing. I helped Johnny Cook the that portion of the world food championships and this is the most important part. It was not mcandrew. You are not. It was not a secret it was not being kept on the down low so as it was rumoured. And he was there the entire time that being J. D. J. D. did not show up under the cover of darkness. Late Thursday was also rumored he was there from the beginning all the way through until the end. He was there to help. Johnny there were I guess they they were both cooking together. this is not and again I would like to say this is not. What an instance where somebody is passing off somebody else's work and getting the win in the glory and prior to getting that statement I talked to some other sources who had seen jd the and Johnny cooking together at some other events this year as well so now the seems to fit together and we can just leave this item alone? But here's what I can tell you. Well this story winds up being nothing and it had to be a pretty major event. Why because you potentially had a hall of fame pitmasters who's widely loved and known in the industry not just by other cooks but by the general public as well and his spot where a contest was won and where he wasn't the one doing the cooking and to me? That's a big the deal on many levels. The good news is that it's cleared as nothing more than a misunderstanding. And that's why the show didn't recklessly start posting rumors and theory on social media or make special bonus content. PODCASTS and I certainly love controversy but not at the expense of integrity. Here's the other thing I learned all the way through this while reaching out to many sources if you didn't know this already. The Godfather is one loved individual agile. Many people and I mean many people have his back. Not only this instance but there are many folks out there who are keeping a watchful eye on smoking triggers when they show up and contests and not in a bad way and a very supportive and friendly way. And that is great to see Johnny as eighty-one still out there doing it. It is nice to see the other teams are out there supporting someone who has been such a great face for competition barbecue for decades so again just just to be clear. Jd Henley wasn't Johnny's camp. All well known all disclosed not a secret. WanNa make sure that we are on on the forefront of passing out that update to the story that was mentioned last week all right. We have emily detweiler coming up the break. I'll talk to you quickly. That's B. Q.. NEWSLETTER DOT COM A great all in one weekly recent shabby I guess the second hour or the current CEO. The Kansas City barbeque society. If you're at the American royal or most recently either Jack Daniels this past weekend probably saw her there all day every day. Shaking Hands Kissing babies here to talk about the number of KCBS related topics that we have on the docket. This evening is friend of the show. Emily Detweiler Ham. Komo absolutely fabulous. Appreciate you joining me this evening. Are you back home. Finally I am Dot Com. Yep just got the the kids purchase a bed so ready to check barbecue or so first things first Since we did that great Exclusive announcement of you you taking over the reins the CEO KCBS. There's been a number of really big or what we would call major competitions that have transpired I of which right in your backyard was the American royal. So how did you find the twenty nineteen American. Royal sure yeah absolutely just a couple of things going on then we last August It'll be there can real world periods barbecue. was absolutely fantastic. You know it's interesting to go from. How hot it was that particular contest to How rainy and cool it was at the Jack this past weekend? So Two different definitely different of of whether there but great experience overall you know the royal definitely one of my favorite contest every year. It's just so fun to see everybody come together and you know for me. It was a really different perspective this year because they sell my past experience. I definitely we have seen it more to the lens of the Cook. Teams and the doctors and the Bran So I certainly still have the chance to do that but it was really fun to be able to also experience it through the Lens of the judges and the reps and all of the volunteers that work just as tirelessly to bring get to live as do the teens and you know even seeing how far some of the judges in the reps come you know from across the country and actually from a different countries back to con- it's it's just highly coveted on both sides of the equation so it was really fun to experience it through that Lens joining me here on the show. Oh is do you think that the American royal has found a permanent home at the speedway or is there still a potential of their in in a year or two or something like that. Good question so based on the Based on the meetings that I've had with the Royal With their our leadership team. You know it sounds like they're very interested in staying good. I think they you know every year continued to find some different things to find tune but overall I feel like the partnership with the Kansas speedway is a very good one and that's a great environment particularly for the team. You know I think each year they try to figure out how to make it a little bit more engaging But the consumer public can we had some dialogue about. What can be done to help with you? Know very important issues is like Ada ongoing safety and things like that but overall as you Works really well obviously always opportunities to fine tune soon and Certainly I've had a chance to pass on some different Pieces of feedback that I perceived from our membership To royal in terms of what can make things a little bit better better but you know the announced live Ad Awards during the inpatient or a very during the open The dates for twenty twenty will be September sixteenth deep through the twentieth. So I think that's absolutely fantastic. You know that some of the feedback that we have provided to them. Gosh even two years ago was to you really try to get ahead of it because it impacts so many people not just the teams and the judges but you know again. I'm I'm really learning all facets of KCBS. Yes I've started to learn just how much it affects. Other contest organizers and teams across the country who may be consistently have their contests on a specific date and it might be tied in with the Community Festival. So you know obviously when you have a contest but it has large into as it's Prestigious as the American royal and also as the Jack Anytime there's changes involved To date that it it really does have a rep ripple perfect across the country and even across the world for our international. You know when they've announced when I was doing the show. You know ten years ago or so when it was was still in the stockyard I think I might have heard an attendance number that was in the mid sixties. I don't know if that's something that was verifiable or just a hopeful full number that people were spitting out there especially on the dark side of the tracks there I think we were just sub five hundred this year. If I'm not mistaken than the open I mean do you. Do you see a point point in time where it re re reaches. I think that's bad English. Where a cheese a similar capacity and you know five fifty or six hundred or more? Well you know I will say good. News is the numbers are trending back up and I think that we all felt was fantastic. News we got to you. Four hundred eighty five for the open this year And that was an increase. I believed when we're asked year so that's exciting to see some of those numbers coming up and I do think that With the early announcement this year or the twenty twenty days. I think we'll see strong. Numbers there The other thing I think will be in favor of the American royal. All is that They've moved yet one more weekend beyond Labor Day. So you know Labor Day is always a tricky one. You can really talk about both sides of the equation where some people saying. I like it because I already had that Monday off so I have more time in the take off working go But for other people belieber day might mean that they're doing something different though you know it's like I could be both sides of the equation but I think that as long as there is such advanced I notice In terms of the then I think I think they'll be in good standing for next year this past weekend. Jack Takes Place Travis Clark from Clark wins ends it. I had had him on in the first hour of the show. And you know he did something magical. I mean obviously he wanted which a lot of people that are in competition barbecue. Strive drive to win the Jack and the American or both if possible during the course of competition career. He goes five times in a row on the seven wins Auto qualifier car I mean you've seen Travis for a number of years compete you know from from a different side but now you're on the membership side of things. I mean that's a that's quite a feat that I I don't know if a a lot of people that are not following competition. Barbecue can really wrap their head around how important that is. Yeah you know it's really important and I I'm certainly excited for crew and their whole family because especially with the opening of the new restaurant you know it's exciting to have that kind of momentum Honestly it reminds me of some of the momentum that was Really Behind Blake Hunter when he won the American royal and then parlayed that into opening his new restaurant in Nebraska. So you know those are some really good success stories that just makes me so proud. of the competition cooks that are able to to take their successes in the field and turn mm it into a great opportunity for their livelihood providing for their family so really excited for Travis and this and you know obviously he's had some great winds along the way he really has But this is definitely one more extremely prestigious world championship win for him to have under his belt As he's getting ready to open that restaurants restaurants so you know really excited for him. It's funny because I saw them Lynn When they got there and I thought to myself well Gosh they must have have quite a haul because has no? They didn't get there as early as the other teams. And you know again you just take that into consideration when you have such a strong competitor. WHO's able to kind of come in I? I don't mean to say last minute but kind of not get there as early as some of the other teams campout two or three days in advance And yet just come in focus. Get it done You know really really happy family. They're also very excited for scratch and dent on winning within shea tree so it was great. Now here's the funny thing that whole answer that you were just giving us someone. According to Travis he showed up Thursday which was easily a day more more in advance than he's ever showed up for the jackets usually like Friday night. So he'll he was laying out. Had all this extra time and like you're saying a lot of other teams are there. You know two and three days in advance so for him. It was vacationing. I guess well then good. I'm glad he was feeling extra relaxed. But Yeah I talked with on teams. Who said they pulled in as early as you know Tuesday night or Wednesday so You know it is Kinda funny That Wednesday has really become the new Thursday contest. But you know the Jack is also. It's just so special. It's Kinda one of those contests that you either love it or you Kinda love it but but You know I think really for the most part it just means history and it means something special and so even if there's some little quirks and things like that and obviously when it rains means it's kind of fun to walk around in the puddles and all of that but you know I think it's just it's such an interesting isn't in. There's just so many special things that are done differently. There you know. Even from the seven entry turned to help represent the the number seven. Bland for Jack and things things like that You know I had a chance to really spend a lot of time on Saturday in the judging area and really had a chance to dive right in and and and volunteer and kind of shadow table captain with some great table captains Judges from from KCBS and just see the the passion within their. It's unbelievable you know. I saw that the American oil as well and it really is I. I think the story that goes on told. And that's just how hard these volunteers appears in these judges and reps work as well The Cook teams though. You know we actually did a little Fun Little kind of back of the Napkin analysis analysis for the Jack. And by the time you you count Marge's Mafia march plumber and all of the You know the context hours I and the volunteer hours the judges we we figure that over the last thirty one years. There's probably a minimum of two hundred and ten thousand volunteer volunteer hours. So you know that. That's pretty significant and the people that do this do it because they love it just like the teams you know it means so much to you either make it in auto invite or You know to have your bunk. John it just means so much to come to that content so it was really interesting and fun to be there in in that regard and I certainly enjoyed. I got to help Rina's powers and the crew hand out the The hickory net and that was just so special. You know fitness tradition that that that that means to the team so really funds. Emily detweiler joining us here on the show. See Okay. CBS website by the way KCBS DOT dot us. Emily's you are kind of getting into Day to day ops there. Are you seeing any new visions thanks for the KCBS that perhaps you didn't initially think about or that. Have just kind of Avail themselves to you as you're working your way through what's been left. Yeah you know. I'm trying to figure out some of the the key things that we need to do differently answering the forward but you know one of the biggest things that I see If we really need to draw in younger audience and that can be really both on this side of contests whether the backyard or more You know grilling type Competitor series types of things While not alienating meetings obviously the existing beast master series. That's gotta continue to stay strong But you know when I look at the membership based and really dig into the numbers you know. That's definitely something that I see is that we've got to focus more on younger audiences and getting them inspired so you know. I've got a lot of different thoughts and ideas in terms. uh-huh of how we can do that. But that's one of the biggest things that I see In terms of future growth you know. Obviously I know that there are all kinds of different issues. That we've gotTA GOTTA we've gotTa solve whether that through. You know. Updating training for judges better on those are definitely ongoing thing that we will continue. Need to do You know we're going through our our next election Nomination cycle right now with exciting things really great candidacy so this as nominees so that's also exciting. It's an interesting you know type of a type of a board in the sense that you know so Today we really don't have anything where you have to have a specific area of emphasis. You know like some some boards where he might have to you have an it background or you might need somebody who's got a legal background marketing background. So you know that that presents an interesting Challenges but opportunities communities and so anyway I I say that because as I'm seeing the nominations come in I'm really seeing some strength there and then looking forward to that hope for us so I I really do believe that the future for KCBS as bright. And you know. Obviously we've got a a Tony History and A great brand that we've established over time so it's exciting to put some energy into it really helped propel it into the future one of the items that everybody looks forward to that's KCBS member especially cook teams is that into your KCBS bank would typically takes place in January. How're those things coming together? They're coming together great. Let me just say that. The banquet is January seventeenth and eighteenth and this year will be in Kansas City at The argosy casino which is also where it happened to the last year as well. So we've got a couple of great things I would encourage listeners to go onto. KCBS that you have the register for the banquet so also were currently accepting nominations for both the Carolyn Wells Ambassador Award which is really all without those who display strong character and promote KCBS ignored innovation to the general public And then also the Gary well sportsmanship manship award and that one is really more focused on those who display great sportsmanship at our events and contests and in really hard spirit of fairness generosity and are often the and observed the rule. So there's some great awards that we would certainly encourage all KCBS members in good standing to nominate Four four and those nominations need to be in by number I So again there's still some time it's it's the people want to nominate some of their their friends mm fellow members so encourage them to do that. the other thing that I'm really excited to share with you is our team of the year Probably pay out so we've actually just announced that And it went on to the website You yesterday or today. It's up there seen it and we'll go out in our next edition. The bullshit that Karen Murphy has worked really hard on so anyway we are excited to share. That are priced school for the twenty nineteen payouts is going to be A little bit over twenty six thousand dollars coming in at Twenty Six thousand four hundred twenty five dollars so we're excited about that and we wanted to be more transparent with the membership Eh. Let them know though them out and really the breakout of how all of that breaks down Prior to the banquet so again that is posted on CBS. That you third I would encourage listeners to go out and look at that The other thing that's exciting for our team of the year payout in In Twenty nineteen is is that we recognize that there are those who maybe can't do the long haul like Like Boomerang can you know get that many contests to make the top up. You know position So we've decided that we're going to recognize from the cook teams who are doing well in the smaller number contests cook this year so we actually dedicated a little over a thousand dollars And broken that out again you can see all of the breakout specifically on the website right but for Cooks who cooks less than twenty five contests less than twenty thousand fifteen plus ten and even less than five so the first place winners within those specific demarcations We'll have a chance to win some prize money too. So we're really excited about that. And you know as we look forward word to next year and beyond obviously we will soon. We'll try to always increase price guys where we can But again we wanted to provide as much transparency as possible. I'm I'm sure those numbers As soon as they were approach Emily Twenty twenty backyard team of the year thing that's in development or something. It's going to happen great questions so not ready to announce anything yet. But I'm definitely in the process of really trying to understand Feedback thoughts you know again. This goes back to my earlier point about trying to draw in a younger audience. And so you know we definitely apparently recognize that We have strengthened backyard. Who we're certainly seeing increases You know contest. Numbers are coming in very strong for twenty twenty and backyard. is one of the areas of growth that we're seeing so As you may or may not know numbers person so try to dig into such as I can and Some people like it. Some people don't but Can't please everybody but anyway no backyard is one of the areas areas that We definitely do see some great opportunities for the future. So I am working through what that could look like. We have actually tapped Some of our some of our backyard participants to help provide feedback the survey to help understand what they liked. Didn't like you know what would encourage courage them to cook more backyard. Contests things like that. So ask I get more of that data and able to leverage it to Nixon. Good insight already making some recommendations in terms of what that looks like moving forward and if we work to to do a team of the year program you know how we could really establish. I wish one that makes the most sense. And it's fair because as you may or may not know some of our backyard contest you know. They all require chicken and ribs but some also also have other categories like work or additional ambulatories. So again we need to make sure that we're leveling the playing field is going to have a team of the year programs So I'm working. Occurs Some of the the details on how to do that. Did you know that the earth spins at nine hundred sixty eight miles an hour. Aw I know you knew busy. You knew that I didn't know that okay. Not exactly but inevitably something else spinning and and there's a top speed in tandem of close to seventeen hundred miles an hour. What do you think about this Popeye's chicken sandwich? Tell me you're a one never do you. Didn't you didn't get caught up in the hype this summer didn't used to be a Popeye's by where I lived in so the only time I ever eat popeye's chicken is if I had a layover in Atlanta airport became a tradition. Then they built one. It's like five mile five minutes from my the House and I've never been there now. It's too close so you can't go. Yeah I think that's the problem well Sunday. They re release the Popeye's Chicken Bacon Sandwich. So put it in your phone so you can show up on Sunday and then we can compare notes next month when we get together. Let's talk a little bit about where. Oh you are doing work at I mentioned Eric. RICHES DOT COM. Are you on any other Internet property at this point are you solely Dirk Ridge Dot com solely there right now. I I mean you know if somebody wants to pay me they can just contact me. Got Contract website as a form. Fill it out. You go talk money all right other than you know some stuff in the industry that I'm not really writing or anyone else got One of the things that we're talking about tonight and I just seen it released into social. I mean it was quite a little bit about that. They had it was the masterbuilt gravity series five hundred sixty. This is a charcoal gravity. Feed that it doesn't have the name stumps or superior on it So what can you tell me about. Well basically what this is. It looks a lot like Pellagra. It's got a large tall body. It's up three racks on the inside. It's got a side table with a controller in it and then and it has this charcoal column runs down the side throw into minor cubes. Don't a bunch of charcoal and then you set your temperature and it's Wi fi enabled so oh well you have a charcoal grill. That is just like Pellagra. I mean it has the same sort of functionality you know they have their own proprietary APP you've got for meat probes in there It looks interesting. Runs about five hundred bucks. But it's this idea. of trying to make a charcoal grill is as convenient as appellate girl. There's influence going. I'll say I mean that that has to be the next follow up. Question is a four years it would seem to be only one kind of pellet cooker or there was a trigger. Then whatever fast Eddie was making it the time and then and the pattern goes away and then all of a sudden you see the onslaught of Pella cookers coming into the industry over the last handful of years I mean do you think even though the pellet industry industry as far as attacking the market is still a fairly minimal percentage versus overall sales. You think that they are having an influence on the way other remains or making cookers to degree. Well I think that a lot of companies are looking at the dylan that convenience factor I mean masterbuilt makes Pellet cookers I mean. They've got some smokers and some stuff like that there. It's not like they're not in that side of the business but this notion that now we need to you make our charcoal grills as convenient and Wi fi enabled. That's the thing about this. This unit has a an a fan of accelerates the combustion and so you can set it for two twenty five to seven hundred degrees. And that's the other thing. Is this charcoal as much more powerful fuel so you can get higher temperatures out of this and this unit will take long or briquettes so it doesn't matter what kind of charcoal us do. You have any idea how accurate the whole setting the temperature thing is i. I'm fairly versus the pellet cookers and the majority of them are in range depending on how you sat him on the controller. But for some reason the masterbuilt to me is like a good idea. But how's it actually performing under fire. Well I mean it's not shipping yet so we've got to get in there and see what it's going to do. I'm reaching out to them to try and get one deal one in soon as I can. But you're absolutely right a lot of a lot of public hookers. It's like oh it looks like it's a very precise instrument and then you realize it's got a forty degree re-texture variants depending upon which way the wind's blowing. So you know there's an illusion of more than there's actual precision but you know we like the technology technology. We liked the APPS. Well Let. That's the question that I wanna ask you that. I don't even think I wanted to ask. Do we really want at the ad or do we want them on there so we don't use them. Look you know it's become a selling point. The you know how how useful your APP is and how Vance your technology is but if you pull Fifth if you pull fifty people that have a cooker. Her with Wi fi enabled whatever and an APP. That goes along with the DEA think that forty percent of them are actually using all of that stuff or is it more more or less than this. Yeah I I think it's a lot less than that But it's the selling point so manufacturers. I feel weight that they have to include this otherwise. Perhaps they won't even be considered purchase. I think that's a big component to it. I mean we. We live in the ages of incredibly powerful and advanced little computer devices if a carrier rockets. And if you can't figure out a way to plug end of that how do you. How are you GonNa get me to buy something? I don't know I mean. They don't seem to be interested in competing in barbecue or or anything else. I mean we're if you're forty or older I mean we're we're probably the young guys right now Derek. Yeah I'll crazy. Yeah I've often often struggled. I and I've had some fairly high level talks with top men in the PELLAGRA industry. No names please. And I've said just leave that shit it off. It appears that there is a demand for but when you actually put it in your house. I don't think people are giving bring it a second thought. Maybe the internal meet probe but God I mean. I just don't see where people are digging for their phone. Every five seconds and I'm sure there's some percentage of folks that are going to sit there and just hover with the phone right in front of advice. The same tools that were with the Maverick E. T. seventy-three looking at the receiver when it was kicking back act temperatures and if it would go up as they'd race right out to the smoky mountain and make damnedest but I mean you're going to have those but I think by and large I think I've said please just leave it off and see and they felt compelled that they had to put it on just so they could still be considered an option. I think that's unfortunate because you could be driving some cost down. Maybe not a lot but you could be driving some cost out. Well you could also be putting your research and development in to making a better cooker than making a better APP right right kind of the world. We live in and it's not being driven by a couple of companies who have big budgets we diverged off of the masterbuilt there for a second. But did you know when this might be shipping out. The consumers their little vague on that and I'm wondering how the supply chain is going but and I think we're looking early next year really might be available in some locations before the end of the year. But I think it's largely you know they're hyping ping it like crazy but it's could still be a couple months away you bullish on this just for my lover stood. Yeah I'm interested from the standpoint of kind of what it represents but you know I'd say four or five times. I fire up charcoal grill. It's either my my caterpillar at it's a commodity. It's big green egg. You know I mean that's an I don't actually have any blowers or any of that stuff on there. I have never found a need for them. Because you learned your cooker. Yeah getting into Mandarin. Well Yeah right grew lately I. I have a lot of times when I'm complaining about this. It's like you kids. But maybe maybe what we're doing is is shortening the learning curve if we can just kind of get off the Crotch of an APP that tells you you've got barbecue right. Derek Richard joining me here on the show. Derek Richard Dot com his website. If you WANNA check out what he's writing about here recently Let's talk a little bit about that while repelling grill that we talked about last month. Any updates that you've heard or like release or anything like that What I'm getting right now is a formal announcement will be in the first half of November and I? I talked to some retailers who expect to have it on the floor in January. Oh well so and you know as far as technology goes this one will if you buy the additional it'll excessively one hundred and twenty five dollars accessory that goes with it. It'll talk to your Alexa. Oh really yeah you can say Alexa something with my weapon. uh-huh exactly three hundred twenty five bucks. I mean that seems like it's not too expensive. I guess well on top of the thousand or twelve hundred dollars you're paying for the Yuna all right though do we have. That is kind of a confirmed price. Point issue yeah yeah all right look look rice. We have confirmed now. So there's been a couple different lawsuits roots that have been Thrown around here both actually involved one of the same company that being traegergrills a trigger was suing Danson's of course because there was there's a lot of Likeness and there was some name stuff. Do you have any idea where this is sitting at. Currently the last I heard it was you know there was a lot of Dance and saying vehemently deny everything and trigger was like deny all you want but you know we paid you nine million bucks and you're doing a lot of weird stuff. Yeah and and that's kind of where it sits. The lawsuit is taking place in both Florida and Arizona. I'm assuming it's Danson's must have some. uh-huh must be incorporated in Florida or something like that on October second. The judge in Florida rejected triggers injunction on the Stop to stop using the name on the grounds that trigger had not presented proof of their purchase of the name. They didn't say Danson's was framed clergy. Use It. They didn't today just trade. Her hadn't proven that they owned it. Dances issued a press. Release the next morning declaring Absolute vindication they had won the next day the Arizona judge upheld triggers injunction and has now stopped dancing from using the name traeger or any associated imagery or anything the store far enough right and then that and right right now the the you know this the disliking from dance and seems to have kind of once again fallen into we don't know when it's going to be available because we don't know how we're GONNA market it but Danson's is saying that they're they're gonNA win and they're not going to do you think that they're going to end up sidling. Somebody's GonNa be paying somebody a fee or something. Yeah and I don't know that the trigger is interested in the money so if dance wants to try and get them to say. Hey We'll pay you X.. Amount of money in will still leave Joe Traeger as Kind Gore Guy. I can't see trader coming back and going. Yeah we need your money. That's that's the last thing that they probably need. Yeah I mean trainers exceptionally good. A burning through every time they get their hands on Yup. But I don't think they need money at this point now the other thing that that they're involved in and You know we always seem to be talking about fuel in some form or fashion when it's really the good stuff triggers under a class action lawsuit in a very quick terms for not using while the the the suit is that they're not using what they're saying saying they're using on their pellet packaging for instance apple apple pellets or cherry pelts. It's actually oaken Alder and they've insult in an apple oil or in a cherry oil or what have you in order to give it. It's flavor and now there's this whole lawsuit that's going on. I found it particularly Louis entertaining that there were two people on some Internet show. That had really no idea about barbecue. kind of saying that was like racing to the game. You know as the Johnny come lately and they had no idea they were but I mean let's talk about the bottom line here I mean. Is this a valid lawsuit. Is the propane people. Trolling To to try and gain some market here I mean. WHAT'S THE DEAL I? I don't think that this has been driven by the propane industry Grills are the fuel. We use the girls as a tiny portion of the propane. That's used in the country but I have been kind of really tracked down where this is coming coming from in spotlight couple of Internet lawyers by a guy in livermore California who appears to work for the livermore National Laboratory. Tori there The the lawsuit itself is almost written a little bit tongue in cheek. It's almost kind of I mean you know as far as lawyers go almost a bit funny in places. It's it's like I don't know how serious does is it. I don't think it's in any way legally legally damaging to traeger because traitor. Yeah you get this bag of traeger pellets says hickory big words and then it says one hundred percent hardwood and then it doesn't say that it's Hickory Wood it just says it's hard wood on their website. They talk about uh they make their own palettes and they're controlled. They're sourcing in that they use canola. Oil is a lubricant and appellate making process. That no what else seems to need the lubricant. For in sometimes it's lubricants this Canola Oil. All natural product may contain all natural literal colors or flavorings. So they're not I mean they're not coming out and saying it but they're not they're not also they're not saying that their hickories hickory right. They're not putting it right on. The package is that This is Hickory flavored oil bill on your heart pellet. Yeah the the lawsuit itself is very specific in some areas. It's like there is no Hickory user. There is no mosquitoes whatsoever. Traeger be apple is maybe thirty percent apple you know those. They have very specific kind of measurement. So they got that from somewhere. It's not the sort of thing you can actually just look up. They had find it that information from someone. I'm entirely certain who at this point but It's it's really bad. PR thing for trader. To be sitting there are all of their marketing. Isabel real would flavor and you know you throw your gas grill because you don't want propane flavor you want real would flavor taste like gas yet. Does it tastes like you know. And you're GonNa Watch it 'cause you know. California propane has a really kind of acidic more mid in West propane yet you know. It's there's less of an ass taste so they do all this marketing trying to say that they've got you know it's all about the flavor favor it's all about the wood and then it's like well. Yeah but all of our would is basically the same. It's just flavored differently and put in different color bags. And then you know then you get get into their blends which is kind of crazy because we blend all of these things together but we don't use any of those things we just add the flavor to him but let's be honest the only one. Well I mean that was my next question is is this a common practice and perhaps more importantly is there any way that this particular lawsuit gets any traction to wear. You'll see some kind of an industry. Standard packaging requirement fireman or a federally mandated. If you are going to do this this needs to be called out on the packaging. So the consumer is made aware of what they're actually buy or or does the consumer not even give an F.. I think a lot of people don't care and they don't know they won't notice and it's like I I mean I've cooked for people before and you know and tried to actually point out that there's a smoke flavor what it is that. There's actually a distinct difference between apple or Hickory or ogre. That's where a lot of people to get it. But I would love to actually see this case go somewhere. I don't I don't see a will. TRADERS TRIGGERS PUT IN A. They put on a continuance. They want to a hold off till I can get a response and I think the response is going to be summary dismissal and they're gonNA come back and say we never said that are Hickories Hickory. We never sent her mosquitos mosquito. It's not on any of our documentation so this is a bogus loss and they might get dismissed on that. An industry the standard be great. But we don't eat wood pallet. So there isn't a government agency that cares a lot about what actually goes in them. But I was is looking I found the product description on a German website for Webber's forthcoming wood pellets outlets and they have hickory and it says Hickory one hundred percent hardwood hickory flavored hard wood. Wood Pallets. Yeah they're same same literally saying it's flavor right and you know Unless somebody comes out and says you know that one hundred percent of this specific would and they're willing to back that up up don't you just can't trust it. I mean if it says hundred percent hardwood and hardwood has no no no finish in here for hardwood. There's no legal definition shen. You can use any. Would you want doesn't really matter because you can't get in trouble for using alder versus ochre using Balsa Wood versus Hickory career whatever. It doesn't matter so I'd love to see it actually goes somewhere in court. Come down and say well you know what you're actually going to have to label the stuff because it's consumable people are buying it with the assumption that it is what it is. I don't see it happening all right. Well if there's going to be breaking news we know where go derek riches dot com. Who will report all that is going on in the live fire barbecue and grilling industry should we leave with a major announcement that we have for? Twenty twenty leader certainly be my guest barbecue. I think we both agree that we would love to see labelling on pellets. I think we both agree. Also also that probably not going to happen as long as it's not heating pellets. Technically I guess I don't even care but it's gotta be food grade pellets on a one heating pellets being strewn into my hickory flavored or my apple flavored pellets and by the way if you're a pellet manufacturer that is making flavored pelts with oil and that's what you think is the right thing to do get on top of the roof and yell it out. This is how we think it should be. Darn way while doe does wife from Nylon do that I wanna hear that. Don't be shady about it. That makes me feel uncomfortable.
