"The United States. and. When you know a place this, well, you take care of. Its Saturday workday marked the first volunteers to arrive. Are the Sawyers specially trained by the forest? Preserve to safely cut down unwanted trees. You look your now you see. Lots of trees too many trees. What we WANNA do is try to create a space here. That mimics what this used to be. which was more of an Oak savanna. We can't do this without you guys and that takes a lot of work. There are roughly forty five volunteer workdays a year at La La. Today they'll help. Remove the fallen trees and other unwanted plants. Jamie. Has Been Volunteering here for about five years. The first time I came here. We saw deer and birds. In the middle, the city is like I was aw. Jamie Jeff are planting, said seat grasses that will grow where the invasive plants and trees have been removed. New Native shrubs have been planted nearby. Not only will this work restore the native ecosystems? It will also create better bird habitat. It's how I personally got started. Doing this Jay is it was. It was all about. Birds would come out to the ball woods to look for birds and boy. Did he find two hundred ten bird species have been identified. Making it one of the area's best places to see migrating birds away from Lakefront. He wants to make it even more bird friendly, and so we know that a good bird habitat tree taps has sub canopy trees. It has shrubs, and then we'll have an or Layer! As.

"Show sports byline. USA here's Rhonda you know it's Nice when you watch a guy go through his entire fifteen year career in the national football league and then after his career is over with the is honored with induction into the NFL Hall of fame. And that's the case with Chris Domain as he joins us on sports byline and when he walked off the field for the last time he had a little bit over one hundred fifty careers sacks and he began his career as an outside linebacker with Minnesota went onto the Atlanta Falcons finished up with San Francisco. Also I spend a little bit of time at the end of his career with the Vikings as well. You know Chris. Going into the hall of fame means different things to different players. And I'm just wondering You were always kind of a a thoughtful studious type. What did this honor mean to you? It was one of those honors that it takes a while for you to even understand it to put it in perspective You know it's always been there for someone else and now the you know they. Ah to the pro football hall of fame near being you know. Recognize one the greatest of all times. And it's just it's just so humbling. was there particular point in your career when you thought that maybe you had a chance to to be honored like this not not particularly. I think you no as you know when you start off in your career and no one looking family going to be a hall of fame player. I think at the end of the day when you look at your numbers and how they match up with everybody else and who else is out there. And then what they've done to to make the pro football hall of fame. You said maybe I have a chance. There was the point. I thought you know if I was even consider it would be a great honor but Being actually inducted. There's you know there's nothing that can compare to it when you break it down and think about what it takes to get into the hall of fame obviously talent and performance. I it takes that but how much of it also is being in the right system with the right team and the right teammates you know that that That's probably third on the list. You know you have to have talent you have to perform and you have to be able to perform arm for a long period of time. You know minimum release. You know ten years Of You know strong performance that you've you know for a at least a decade one of the top players that ever played in that position. Then I think you know obviously you know other teams you know if you're on a team Such as the miners. Who's winning a lot? Both things definitely helps. Because you can win super bowls and those types of things you probably make the pro bowl but it takes a lot just a lot of individual efforts to To kind of make it this far. You know with this war. Let me take you back to Pennsylvania Missile Vania because you went to William Penn High School in York Pennsylvania and I know I used to spend time in West Virginia with my grandparents and that Pennsylvania West Virginia region is a very very interesting one for high school football. Tell me a little bit about what your experience was like playing high school football there. Pennsylvania High School football came and You know it was always that that level competition that brought up the best of our players I mean you think about all the guys to play you know Pro Ball that came out of Pennsylvania. Two minutes almost staggering. I think the one St to produce so many great players. It was just always that always that challenge to to live up to the player. That was ahead of you and You know for me you know. There's you know When he played the Miami Dolphins and you know he played at my high school? And you're constantly trying to to make sure that you are at least as good you know the last guy who made then going on off to college where that you know you create your own mark there so it was difficult I mean but it was. It was a fun time. You know you didn't shy away from you. Just enjoy playing football. You know. It's kind of interesting interesting because I've talked to Freddie Bulletin. Cough talked to Joe Main Nemeth and Joe Montana and they all talk about the attitude in that part of the country. That really from the time you start playing football when you're in pop warner on up through high school. It's kind of a workmanlike attitude. It's the blue collar attitude that you see even filtered down or up to The Pittsburgh steelers correct in an observation. You are In Pennsylvania you got two professional teams you. Have you know the eagles rose and you have the steelers but if you look at them I mean they both come from a very hard nose Hard defense fund the ball pound the ball. Good defense You know type of position and you know you watch when you watch watch. The steelers play the eagles play the high school football across the country. It all represents thing thing but there there's it definitely a level of toughness that you have to give you know You know in Pennsylvania usually when a kid comes out of high school. The next step is right into college but that that was not the case for you after you graduated you. Spend a post Grad year at Valley Forge Military Academy. I'm familiar with that school. Tell me a little bit why you decided to go there before going going on to the University of Pittsburgh well you know. I decided to go there for the simple fact that I signed to go to University of Temple and you know I I changed my mind. I wanted to play at University of Pittsburgh just all my friends are going. You know for whatever reason you know fell through the cracks You know in the recruitment piece on the University of Pittsburgh so Bill Moss who you know play professional ball and Martin Bailey You know book guys were playing a couple of star. You ought to really look at coming to pay. Oh When pick and they loved it and the Guy We're interested in you know I had to sit out here you go? That's what I'm going to postgraduate year. Cheap mileage ability for college and then went on and play. Its did that. Atmosphere Atmosphere Being a military school Kinda give you an advantage to some degree because one year a little bit older than the average freshman going into college into knowing the background of military school that Academy gave you a discipline and a good foundation. As you move on then Chris Absolutely. I mean you know you as you know. Football is a pretty disciplined sport and could be able to have that ability to transfer from your high school onto college You know made it a lot in your from curfews. I understood rules and regulation the why they were in play. And what you had to do to become a player. So I've never had a problem with her refuse and being on time and showing up on time and going to class and all those things you know the next year just gave you the maturity. They always talk about the great rivalries rivalries in College Football. And maybe it's Florida Florida's state. Maybe it's Notre Dame and USC. But I gotTa tell you being familiar with that part of the country I think there's a bigger rivalry the Pittsburgh and West Virginia. Now put that rivalry into perspective for people listening around the country. Well that's the backyard brawl. I made they made it truly I mean you think about West. Virginia University of West Virginia is the only thing going on in West Virginia. And you know playing the University of Pittsburgh which is you know your their neighbor. Any losing always went after the same recruits Same highschool recruits. It was just one of these competitive. You know You know big brother younger brother you know rivalries and It made it very very very competitive when we play because you knew a lot of guys that was from your high school that played at University of West Virginia and vice versa. So it was a it was a great rivalry at still. Is You know just basketball in any sport that the universities are engaging and nine and I think it's going to stay that way for a long time. What's your favorite college football memory? Bill was it was so many I would you know off the top of my head I would say West Jamie Jeff hostetler versus University of Pittsburgh. What was that game like will pick one.

"The Democrat is switching parties to join the Republicans he is one of only two Democrats in the house of representatives who voted against the impeachment inquiry Avengers defection is about more than just the politics of trump WMI sees Nancy Solomon is here to explain what's going on in the New Jersey Democratic Party Hey Nancy I Jamie Jeff Andrew has spoken out against impeachment and the national media is calling this a win for Donald Trump is it a set back Nancy for Democrats both nationally and with the New Jersey I think we're gonna have to wait until November to see how this shakes out and I'm not talking about the presidential election results but there is a lot to like about this defection for New Jersey Democrat well that's kind of surprising why would you say that well there's three reasons one Jeff Andrew was a very conservative Democrat at a time when the state party is moving left his vote against impeachment was only the most recent disappointment for Democrats to he's a freshman congressman who won his purple district in twenty eighteen with the help of South Jersey democratic boss George Norcross two years ago Norcross endorsed van drew before he had actually announced his candidacy okay it's very rare to see any defections so this can be interpreted as a crack even a hairline one in Norcross is incredibly strong armor all right that's two reasons with the third I think Democrats have a good chance of unseating van drew in November the national media keep referring to this district as solidly red but it isn't and let's not forget the Democrats flipped to other districts in twenty eighteen that have been Republican for many years but a lot of this will depend on what happens with the internal divisions that are going on in the Democratic Party are you talking about the fight between governor Phil Murphy and state Senate president Steve Sweeney that we've been hearing about for the past two years yes and it's being fought on several fronts Sweeney the democratic leader in the Senate is holding up legislation depriving Murphy of a win on some core issues for Democrats most notably a millionaire's tax and legal marijuana Sweeney is a close ally of George Norcross the unelected party boss in South Jersey and there's the governor's investigation into the corporate tax break program which is calling into question more than a billion dollars in tax credits to Norcross connected businesses in Camden another front in this war is the fight over who will be the state chairman of the Democratic Party usually this person is picked by the leader of the party which would be the sitting democratic governor Norcross and Sweeney work to get the current chair John curry elected in twenty thirteen now that Murphy is governor Norcross and Sweeney trying to unseat curry I spoke with him today and he's publicly criticizing Norcross for the van drew defection and that is really something was quite rare guards are cross it may be is not is not advocating progressive policies it's not been a real supporter of the governor and I am told his supporters of the government's agenda curry has support of progressive activists and the winner of that fight will tell us a lot about the balance of power in New Jersey right now but there were three democratic legislative candidates in John Fran drew's district who wall stirrup can't just last month Nancy isn't that likely to be part of Vandross calculation sure but I don't think you can separate that loss from the state wide fight against the Norcross machine that was interpreted as a win for trump and to be sure that district voted for trump by a large margin in twenty sixteen but there is also a growing cadre of progressive democratic activists who are fighting the machine we saw that one more than fifty of them showed up to protest George Norcross at a state Senate hearing and people in New Jersey are still talking about sue Waltman the activists who got violently dragged out of the meeting there was an editorial in the local Cape May newspaper before the election in November they called on Democrats to reject the machine candidates even if it meant sending Republicans to the legislature sort of an active political Harry Carey as a way to take back the Democratic Party so you think some progressive Democrats sat out that election last month that's why I think we may see something surprising in that district come next November but at this point it's impossible to know how the internal strife among Democrats is going to play out all right well I'm sure you will let us know W. N. Y. C.'s Nancy Solomon thanks so much thanks Jamie and Nancy will be back this Thursday night with ask governor Murphy that's Thursday at eight listen to the live stream of the program at W. NYC that'll work on the.

"Missy. Ruffin missy roughened worked side by side with jim at the turkey plant for many years. I still work there. Been there twenty eight years. They've been there twenty twenty twenty seven years yup and i've worked with jim for i've thought about it in the church. <hes> probably five years of the twenty eighth that i've been there not worked with jim monday through friday eight hours a day for fifteen years. I see him every day. I'm on second shift now. He's on first shift and we see each other and he says hi hi to me <hes> one heartbreaking thing. I've noticed over the years doing this job. People in mourning or in shock offense still talk about people who died in the present tense like this why why they're normal people why would you they don't bother nobody. They don't go to work. They go home. They're they're about their family. So why jim denise obituary says jim loved the green bay packers in wisconsin badgers and getting into conversations about the glory days of his high school sports career something his co worker can attest to the obituary says denise love working with her flowers feeding her birds. She loved angels and helping everyone any way she could. Yes the same jim is that site the he's so much into the packers that he would take if the packers played on monday night tuesday off because he knew that it'd be too hung offered to go to work because he really enjoyed watching the packers and the badgers any any wisconsin sport team he was very avid about them and he was not afraid to say it yup she she was. She was all about jamie everything she her world revolves around jamie as she when she was younger. She had her in beauty pageants. It's in you know. Please brought my daughter's pitchers. You know so that she wins the contest that she was all about jamie. Her world revolved around jamie over the next two weeks. The investigation scales down people have called in twenty one hundred tips but those tips once coming coming in at a rate of two hundred per day are down to about twenty a day. Most of the two hundred investigators have gone home while five to ten local deputies agents continue to work and with the investigation scaling back so does the media coverage without an update to report days go by sometimes without a mention of the case on the news so so i decided to try contacting the family again in kelly engelhardt gym classes sister says she'll do an interview along with her brother jeff close. We meet kellyanne jeff at their mother's home in ladysmith wisconsin the home. They grew up in with their brother jim. There are other brother. Mike wanted to be at the interview but he was away at work. Lady smith is a town of three thousand people just like barren forty five minutes east. The two towns are high school sports rivals. Everyone in the class family was the star athlete in high school and and now kelly and jeff in mike's kids carry on that tradition. Jim was the only one to move away although just forty miles from where he grew up. We're love people at the funeral. Yes we were that. We're there at ten o'clock from quarter to eleven how one o'clock it was constant. People coming through and the church was full. It's now one month since the murder of their brother jim his wife denise in the disappearance of their niece jamie jeff and kelly very friendly as the invite my photographer ataman me inside. We sit down in the living room of graham classes home. She stepped away for the morning. Kelly and jeff's say the ordeal is still too hard for her to talk about or even hear about kelly was the baby of the family. Jim was the oldest brother nine years older than her jeff was just a year younger than jim and mike three years younger are so the boys all played high school sports together. Now jeff works for a construction company and kelly works at the ladysmith police department so she's used to dealing with police lease even though she's never been in a position like this there brother. Mike is a truck driver in the kitchen. Kelly and jeff have laid out photographs and old newspaper clippings of jim liam playing high school sports in the living room where seated in a circle jeff wearing a hoodie that says ladysmith basketball in kelly wearing a sweater and we start the conversation asian talking about their brother jim. What was he like. Let me start out. He was very <hes> to himself. He was <hes> he we kinda as he went to baron. We didn't see him as much but he he was very sorry he still cared about. Everybody was very caring very caring person. You know <hes> he enjoyed he just enjoyed sports and that's kind of how we kind of formed a bond you know just talked about the badgers and he talked about his cooking. He loved cooking because it all has meals for the week. You know prepare everything for the week in the nets. Basically what we talked about on the phone on an wasn't very long. You know five minutes at the most. He was always kinda in a hurry to get his work over with so he could get ready for the game you know and era i think he liked to work hard and i think he liked the rest a simple man and what else do you remember about jim. Jim like like like jeff said he just he was like he just was simple he he never did. I never heard him say anything bad about people he just he loved to work never complained about work. He loved going there. <hes> he loved sports he he he he would sit here at christmas time and my husband who came into the family and he's like oh my gosh every year the same stories about these guys in their in their lower great athletes you love brig brag about himself. He'd that's one thing about him. Was he loved and he he could tell you. I think i think the donnie miss that you know as you lose. Your <unk>. Athleticism on your age goes wait. I think that really kinda he missed. He missed that he lived through his glory. Tell you how how many points he scored in a game he could tell you how many rushing yards he had. I mean he was a great athlete though he he prided himself on that and he loved to talk to him about it and he loved to talk to my nephews about it because he would like to because then he could relive it tyson and my nephew would love to ask them who's better who was just it was kind of the running thing was better jeff was a jail. I was at my who is better so he he loved it and he truly was happy talking about it anymore. What was like and how was their relationship. Denise was probably the nicest person you'd ever meet. Just like i mean i wouldn't call my brother sweet. I would call denise denise sweet. Denise was just a sweet she would come in here. We would laugh with her. Her party like she come here for christmas and she would bring fifty fifty bags of candy. Not one fifty literally she put it on the table and my mother would say denise. What are we going to do with all this. We'll give it to the kids or she just she. She was such forgiving person. Such such a sweet sweet person never ever would say a bad word about anybody such a nice person and they you know she had a listen to jim. She'd have to listen to him when she was here about the stories and she would just laugh and roller is just he he was he was and he didn't try to. He didn't come in here and try to make you think he was. You know fancy by wearing anything fancy. He didn't care he loved it here. He loved my mom. My mom cooked for him and he loved. The food should should make something special for him. He loved it. He would sit at that table and he was happy. He likes to eat. He loved eat. A lot of people were saying stuff like calling her angela angel and stuff like that that all kind of rings true absolutely she put up with my brother for their in that you know she just she was such a i i. That's why this is so baffling. She was the the kindest person who who could hurt denise. I don't know just don't get it because she is so kind. In jeopardy remember about their dynamic as a couple just like pretty much. What kelly said that jim always kind of he was. They're listening but the niece and jamie were kinda stole the show but she made all the effort. It was absolutely jim and didn't make the effort. I'm just at mardi. Gras was last time i saw jamie and denise which was in july she brought chiba jamie here and to see my mom and they went to the prayed so that was all denise didn't he made sure that that mom saw jimmy because if it was up to jim he he he wouldn't say don't come mm over but he's not going to drive over here and you know so denise was the yes. She was the angel she she in her jamie. They were inseparable. They did everything together and i think that worked for jim and denise because jim got to do his thing by cook in and watching a sport right and denise ace and jimmy did all the running went shopping they went to the roller skating rink. Did everything kind of developed a routine like everybody does aww yup and jim fit into that routine when when it was good and that was okay with them and that's that worked for them so they were got along great that way. We'll jamie's personality melty jamie. Jamie is is a sweet sweet girl to very shy very we have our our kids. Kids are more outgoing probably going a little more rambunctious. My mom always tells a story that jamie was like four years old and all the kids are my. I have a sixteen year old daughter order. My brother has a sixteen year old son to wrestle and they started wrestling. Jamie's like you have to do that. We all laugh. No you don't have after you got jesus very quiet. She wasn't going to be one that was going to be tearing down. The stairs like arcades she always would i remember motor was she. Always clung to her mother. I mean they were but as she got older. She started getting a little bit better as far as being around us. I get comfortable with us. In the way we work work the way they are and i think she was just more comfortable with denise his family because she got to see them so with us she but but she she loved grandma. She loved her her her. You know she would come to see graham on she so i think if it was if it was just her and grandma one on one assures much more comfortable than if you put her in a big crowd she was a little more quiet but definitely took after denise sweet side definitely so what do you think happened. I have no idea i loved stories that you know when it first happened. I thought what joel jim was is in trouble. Jim did something you know what i don't know kellyanne then you hear you know after jimmy so so i have no idea i really don't. I don't want to speculate because i want to find out in the people that did this get what they deserve. You don't kelly might i don't i don't have a gut feeling my first. My first instinct was ahead to be because because we jim so well that he he wasn't out in the public well he wasn't he kept to himself so it has to be somebody that knew him from work because that's where he spent sixty seventy eighty hours a week at so that was my first instinct was did somebody the at work have a problem with him or did you know. Did he fire somebody. That was upset. That was my gut feeling i but because there's they have nothing. We have absolutely nothing to go on and it's not if somebody said that he did something wrong. I would have been great. I get let's let's find it now but there isn't there. Isn't that one thing that says this has to be it. You know go in this direction. There's just there's nothing look. You almost expected to learn. This guy. Work hated about absolutely that he had a big debt or yeah but this wasn't his s. one thing that he he never talked about about and i don't know if he would have said anything anything to me you know if he was in trouble i think he would have you know and i think he would have talked to. My mother confided in my mother and said i'm i'm in trouble in that's just not the case with him and with denise and her being literally she would go to other people's homes to help them into her friend friend had her husband had passed away and she made sure she went and sat by him and a game. I mean she just so i just i don't know thing that really strikes me and i listen to them to hear you know they talk about the abduction thing you know if that's what it was it seems to me they went to quite the extreme because if they were in this is just my thought they were <hes> watching. Jamie was by yourself kelly right whenever time to get on the bus jamie would have been could've could've got genius which we would heartbroken but did they have to kill two who people to do what they did. I think it's just so it's so disturbing for us as a family to know that somebody so evil did something to to people who who there's no reason it's just it's it's there are no words and that's what i think. People have said to us. There's no words there is to say to you. There's no words that we can say <hes> we just we hope we hope that this person did want jamie and so they're taking care of her and that she let's just say that. That's our biggest fear that she's not being taken care of the puzzle that that baffles me if somebody wanted to take jamie you don't why would you kill. Two people wasted their casing her watching this they they know i mean from whatever time whatever time she's in there by yourself or if this seems like yeah right in vice versa if somebody wanted to kill jimmy niece and why would they take gene absolutely just just something. That's why our gut feeling is that they wanted jamie. Because you know you why why would you i i mean from how he was shot right away is that there was no talking to him and and we all know that if you would have gotten into that home without a weapon you you would've been in trouble with joe because jim and i feel that somebody knew that i feel that. They knew that they couldn't they couldn't they couldn't confront jimmy. The been physically physically to get himself he would have he would have yeah he would have to people would have had a heart. I think another thing that that whole night jim in it's hard when you got just seconds to deal with things is they've had trouble in the past there with people run auto gas. I'm assuming that's what he probably thought it was. Hey with somebody that needed help me. That was there and he has they've had people come to their house. I think he had told my mom that it had kind of gone down a little bit since cell phones and so people could your call but they would come to the door and knock on the door and ask for help help or asked to call the police but at one o'clock in the morning early i mean he jumped the problem. Jim had you couldn't see very well okay. They sort i'm assuming he flipped the light. I don't want to be a detective because that but boy. I'm assuming you flip the light on jim at i i. I'm assuming they've never told told us that we know from jim's home you know that he was the first one to go to the to the door and we know that the door is over here in their bedroom is over over here so these think in the bathroom and so that seems like hiding than that sims that's. What's you know what what i feel okay. Jim probably didn't jim denise terrorized. Yes that's awesome and so jamie to. Jim didn't know jim. Jim did know that now is over didn't know struggled listened to an animal. Nobody's don't nobody's nobody has one of those things where you mentioned where like they hold that back because you're there is a voice here. Background may be able to compare it. You know it was once it's out in the public realm secrets secrets and i don't. I wish that we could believe that. They have something like that that they're holding. I just i don't think so and i don't think like he said and we have to take this that nine. One one releasing it to the public. I'm on call is not going to help. Bring jamie home a lot of the internet speculation. Certainly that is pretty ridiculous. That's harder is one thing that the task though some people wonder to jimmy had possibly boyfriend online born extreme too. I mean obviously we can't say with one hundred percents certainty but you would have to show me proof because i would not believe believe it. I mean i would. I would not believe it that that's just not her. There are thirteen year old girls that have personalities that would be out there and putting themselves out there jamie does not i have that and i don't think she would put herself in that situation plus. I know she had nothing to do with that. She she's she's a person that was taken. She wasn't this isn't willing. This isn't something she's a part of that that we know this but this because we know her and that she is not she loved her parents in her mother and that this would not have happened with her involvement through the years with jimmy denise. Make enemies like you said you know if you told me the viking fan that didn't like him that would be as enemy yes but at work it was it was okay and then you're over it. You know you get over it. I've never i'm known anybody to have never known an enemy of ever <hes> jim. I would have to say it would be somebody at work. That in jim was a person in that you know if you saw something at work. You might say why did you do that. You know like he was a little more forward and he would. He would say that plus. He's been there for so many years that he you know he was you know and he was a worker. He worked hard he he wasn't going to take it if somebody wasn't working so do you ever struggle with drug addiction or anything like that along those allies no no not that not that we know of has no criminal record nothing. They've never had a please contact at their home. I don't know so. I know this is her to talk about. But did you guys get a call at night. That was the whole screwed up. The whole was terrible. Just absolutely durable. We got the same time rates. Go well unfortunately unfortunately with with with how played out in them going into into their house. They kind of identified. Her side did identified denise jim but they didn't really identify us in the family and so what happened because where i work one of the county deputies actually went to call in we have a barren county swat team and and they went to the swat call in so. I got a phone call. Actually i got a text message about six thirty in the morning from one of the guys and he's like which was odd because does he doesn't work for the latest of the police department. It was one of our officers. I'd have been like okay. They need something from me and he's like. Are you coming to work. Can i said yeah and he said can can can. I stop by and i said no. I said what's going on riley because i knew i knew i knew it because you don't that's not what you do and then unfortunately gently. He didn't know i mean obviously i'm the class name in ladysmith people know and he didn't realize it had a brother and barrett so he was face booking at like four o'clock in the morning and when you facebook jim kloss my my father comes out and my husband was in the photo so riley's like so then he asked me. Do you have a brother. Jim and i said yeah he goes as the about fifty six and i said yes i will what's going on. I said he said he was shot and they can't find jimmy. I said i don't enough. He's used the word. I don't know if you use jamie's name at that point and i said what do you mean. They can't find said she lives there and you know and so i literally got to work and i was sitting in the sheriff's office and looking at facebook and then that's where that's from sierra my daughter i. I was at work and she sent me. This and i didn't think it was right because i couldn't think of gyms address right off the bat because they said they said jim jim and then eastward is seized and they showed like a picture when they didn't say jim indonesia the time they said two to two dollars case this ceased and with that address address and i think what they call scared her got her all worked yeah yeah and i was still sitting in the sheriff's office trying to figure out okay so i didn't get a chance i understand because facebook wanted jamie's information out there and all the news outlets wanted her face but so it was a little harder for us still. It'd be nice to be notified run. Yeah it was it was but we get it. Because the time the time the time was such an important factor for her and we can take the fact that we weren't notified right in the way that we would have liked because it meant to more minutes to find jamie hardest part for me. He was the next night okay when they gotta tip. You know whatever whatever they went up to our cabin because because they thought maybe she did jamie was up there well this cabinet. I don't know what time they went to the cabin. Lake twelve thirty and then they went to our hawaii at my wife's house which she was alone one in five or six f._b._i. Banging and clanging at the door. That's what's kind of scary in both families had that both both families encounter owner to kind of a scary. I mean we're we're scared. We're all scared the whole community as scared. Everybody is afraid who did this. Reu something like this and so i mean it's a scary feeling and and family and stuff like that yeah which we were open to bring it bring it on. We have nothing to hide fight and we are we we will fully cooperated because none of our family has anything to do with it and so we but it's a process that we've never never been through. We've never i mean we literally had probably two three hundred f._b._i. Agents in this home at one point so so how are you guys hanging in there now. It's getting getting a little easier. I it's still hard at night. You know it's still hard you know because i'm not as scared at night because you can't be because i'm not gonna don't let whoever did this isn't going to not. They've already done what they've done to us and i'm not going to continue to let it bother me. We just need to find jamie. Amy i mean if if this if if what happened happens with jim and denise we can deal with it but if jamie comes back it'd be much much easier much absolutely we can deal with it. You know we can deal with with their death <hes> but we can't deal with hers. We need her to come back. You know she needs to needs to come back exactly so how does the mystery and the uncertainty surrounding jamie make it harder to fully properly. Grieve your brother. What does it really does. It's we can't we have two things going on and that was the biggest problem. I think for us to talk to people you know in that first month. Is you know we're trying to grieve brother and sister-in-law but when you grieve then you feel guilty you're grieving because he still have a niece that we want to come home so we're we're trying to separate. You're trying to disagree them but have hoped for jamie and that's all you can do. All you can do is just have hope and and the community and our family and in our friends have been awesome i mean we couldn't ask for anything better so devastating has the murder and the kidnapping been on your families devastating. It's it's it's been tough because there's there's nothing we don't. We don't have anything we have. No no little there's just how do you how do you shock. It's shocking. It's absolutely shocking. Wake up just just like when that passed away. You can't believe it. No no him is just. I don't know i think you wake up and you think oh wait a minute. She's gone right. I think you you try to your mind. You have to sleep so you have to shut it off and then you wake up and in somebody said something to me and i thought you know it's right is everyday you start. Your day and you're like is today. The day like today the day that they're gonna find today. I'm home. Here's something i phone rings and i immediately you know 'cause the f._b._i. Has told us morning noon and night they will call us so if my phone rings at after ten o'clock doc i think oh my gosh. Is it going to be her or is it going to be. Is it going good news. Is it going to be bad news. <hes> that's a good question. We talked about that kelly because it's weird back before this happened we went. We went days without even locking our doors. Now i lock my door at six o'clock and i'm leery somebody somebody knocking on your door in all what you shouldn't be that way with the time change the time change. It's so when i would walk out to make our prior to the time change it was dark and i and i was afraid i would look around. I live in the country. I was afraid now when i walk out in the morning and it's late. I'm a little less afraid in. It's funny funny though you say that our families are afraid. Everybody's afraid everybody's afraid because we don't know we don't know it wasn't a random was was it was something that somebody just pick this house and this we don't know so the community is afraid. You know people that live there are afraid. The people who live in ladysmith are afraid. It's scary. It's scary that somebody could do something like this. It's it's devastating. Are you guys happy with the job safar absolutely one hundred percent they have. You know we understand. It's frustrating so it was frustrating for me the way hey they questioned us right off the bat but i understand kelly works around a little bit more than i do that they had they had to do that. You know yeah but yeah they've been good. They're trying to get to the. I mean obviously we. We all know when things happen you know. They looked to family members. They look to somebody. That may possibly have done something like that so we understand dan that we we understood the questioning and we're like absolutely one hundred percent <hes> open to it and we want it because we wanna get solved. We like you said before. Whoever did this cannot get away with it. They can't it's just it's a small town things like that. Don't happen around here and it needs to be solved so so if that means being twenty four seven bothered by the f._b._i. Or the local law enforcement were we'll do whatever we can and we have been her family family. The niece's family has been the same way and we'll do whatever the police no more than they make. It seem you would know more. I don't think so i i. They don't think so <hes> now do. I believe that the public needs to know everything going on in the nation. I don't believe that i think i think those kind of know how how it works. It's kind of the shirt really makes it seem like they don't have a clue is is that the truth that they're holding. I i tr- i truly believe it's the truth and there are some f._b._i. Agents that speak to you a little more than others will not and i truly believe it now do do. I think that there might be some people or some things that there might be looking but i i was when the phones when they when they got the phones great. Oh great okay something. If they're truly was somebody that was stocking stockton jamie or something that's going to be in the phone jamie's phone phone in both yeah so so we all know that they have access to that and they and they've they've been through that so i i i honestly feel that they don't have anything anything because of that and but how can you get away with that like how can you how can you come into a small town at one o'clock in the morning and builder's gone and then take take a daughter in four minutes yeah that's that's so you had a plan breath think you had to have had a plan because if you stumble upon that hat and then in four minutes make that decision get out of there without anybody seeing you or hearing you. That's why we have to believe somebody knows something. Somebody has a tip somebody has you you know has something that went on at maybe geno or maybe with jim and they denise and they know it. They need contact the tip line because that's the only way we're going to solve it. You know the bills vehicles that they put anything you know nothing. I wish it was a chilling when because then we thought oh gosh there's something we've now now we gotta start but then it was vague on the years well. The dodge challenger was yeah. It was promising because it's like how many color the great this is. This is perfect but but again we know we know the f._b._i. In the in the local law enforcement are doing everything they can and they're you know even though they scaled down scaling down from two hundred to maybe ten five. It's still way more than a lot of police. Departments are going to have working on the case so i mean we know. They're doing everything they can and the sheriff. If has been has been great so you want people to know about what your family is going through. We've gotten a little bit of flack about not talking king and my first question is who do you. Who do you want us to talk to like. Who who could we talk to that could cover every person in this area area. That's or in the united states in the world. I don't know where these people are. You know so we wanted out there. We had to take a few weeks to actually she get. I mean i couldn't have done this interview four weeks ago. Right in gotland got through it without crying. Backley brother tears up a little but but it's it's easier now. It's easier so people said well. Why aren't the family talking well. You know we we wanna talk if if if talking means. It's going to bring jamie home up so we'll talk but other than that you know. We're trying to do everything we can but what you know so so for me. I think it's it's it's you know give a family break who's just lost two family members and who who is desperately seeking their niece <hes> so that that i think is the hardest thing for us but again not in this community. This community is not judging facebook. Yes just trying to artist so as well. I was trying i was i was really and i wanted to get on there and i thought i gotta be better than that. You know but then then then you don't <unk> have to cause that other. I has a little common sense. You know what i mean i have i have commented now. I just can't help myself because when somebody says that something something yeah something a blatant lie about either jim or denise jamie i it's hard. It's very hard. It's hard to listen to that because i know it's not true and what type of person can say that and i get it. I get it. It's facebook and you're you're. You're you're you think you're untouchable because you're on facebook but it's like we're we're living this right. This is our this. This could be our life for the next twenty five right. It's not knowing where jimmy and if they do find the people people the try i mean we realize this is this is not. This isn't something that's just going to be done. We have to deal with it so if if people just be more kind and i've seen somebody say stuff about you know. The denise is family you know. Why are they looking at the camera. Why aren't they said there. Thank you don't bring you know. We don't have notes on how to do this in a row. It's us just us. Yeah you know before this happened. You wouldn't have known gyms name because he just wanted to be a you know just a guy that that that i didn't want to hurt anybody. I just wanted to just live alone left alone but now is everybody you driving the car and you hear jimmy classes like i don't while he's a heck. It's like you know how the twilight zone twilight zone in how somebody will say. It's that's what's really strange. There's a quiet we are and i think it's hard for us to be out in the public and missile you know i don't know but but our family wants everybody to know is it's not that we don't think about it every day because we think about it every minute every day but we're maybe not just out there talking about it as much but both both of our families we just want jamie back and if that means talking now to people we will do that but it's it's hard i mean it's a it's a difficult. Thank you know we we don't blame you guys. Yeah no and we get that we those first as we have to go and ask them soundly circle badly. I never said oh there something wrong with them for not agreeing to the worst day of their life right right but it's like how people harmed people so quick to say cheese or such so judgmental and it's like i know it's because nothing like this has ever happened to us. We have never yeah. I mean our father passed away which was which was terror and shocking but he died up at our cabin where he wanted he wanted to die. He died indignant signups. He died the way he should have died. It brother didn't die the way he should have absolute he he and that's why we will not stop because we have to yeah. I guess lastly. Is there anything that you would say in case. Jamie's out there potentially able to watch or anything that you would say to her. She has a lot of people here that love her and want her back and we know that that if you could if you had the chance you'd be here and you get away you try <hes> but just just keep hoping we're hoping every day we're not gonna give up absolutely absolutely that we we will every day thinking about voter and we knew you know and that's all we really have of their family. Now is her her so we come back. Is there anything that you'd say to the person that i did that. You're gonna get what you deserve. You have to -solutely really.

"If you're the best middleweight fighter in the world you may get twenty or thirty million dollars and add add if you just a a good citizen raise kids helping the neighborhood and everything else but you don't have market related skills you'd be you'd be good on that farm still and and you would be earning something comparable to most of the people around you but you don't have something out of as it gets more and more specialized and it's GonNa continue to get more specialized you you want to. Thanks for that person. You want them have a decent life. They live in a country with sixty thousand of G._D._P.. Per Person You want them to want them to have a decent life life and they can i. I also think you want them to have a feeling of accomplishment. So you want to have a job assuming that they're not handicapped in something you want. I have a job but the minimum wage would be one way say well. We're make sure that they have enough money in their pocket but that's got a lot of affection disturbing leading the market system they just need more cash then only the higher wage or cash in their pocket and the government relatively low cost can provide a decent living for anybody that's working forty hours a week and has a couple of children and we've gone in that direction a and it's sort of bipartisan find both Republicans and Democrats for I think it would be a better not to have one annual payment that they get monthly monthly and I think there are various things you can do but you want you want them to feel part of the system and you WanNa get them. Get as as more and more of these golden eggs are laid so you WanNa get get a little border share if we don't do that and the Democrats win. It's possible we get you know big taxes on wealthy pe-people Free College for all those are bigger plans. You want more money in the pockets of every EV- everybody's willing to work or is unable to work and we can do it rich family would do that. You know I had six or seven kids and I had some business. I wanted to pass on. You'd pick the most able personal because that's the market awesome to do that but you make sure that all seven of the family participated you get more than you might get more to the one that that that kept producing the golden eggs e you would you wouldn't just say to the the one at the lowest end who might be the best kid of all in most respects you know he's the one it shares all kinds of wouldn't it wouldn't say to that Earth that you know too bad but that's just what a market system works. You know L.. Go your have your spouse get a job someplace right. Why don't we do a update about healthcare initiative which now the company has a name haven? was that your idea no. I didn't worry about a name I could've gone on as a no name operation for ten years as far as I know that that is we got a wonderful partnership in the sense that it's got its large has reasonable market muscle with more than a million employees. One of career was we've got three C._E._O.'s that make things get done in organizations that are so big that normally they would get very bureaucratic. Eh If you tried to do this with many big companies it up legal Wang and you know and public relations way. We don't have any that stuff that they may have them in certain areas but but I don't have to but Jamie is gonNA worry about doing that sort of thing and neither jeff so so we've got a a unity of commitment and an ability to execute on the commitment the only problem is you've got a three point four trillion dollar industry which is as much of the federal government raises every year that that basically is feels pretty good about the system they as we went around talking to people find find a leader for the group for example you know everybody says the system turns out very good medicine but you can't go from five percent of G._D._p.. To eighteen without without really making you less competitive among other things in the world so everybody thought the system needs some adjustment just not they're part the system and and that's very human I do the same thing. I'm sure if I was in the same place so it's there's an enormous resistance to change while a similar acknowledgement the change is will be needed and of course it's the private sector doesn't supply that over a period of time you know people will say we give up. We got turn over to government which will probably be even worse. How often do you talk to Jamie Jeff about it? I know todd combs. I think todd really does all the work at our bud. If this works give harbors credit from the from the BERKSHIRES boy does haven have to buy companies in east to gain expertise and what you know it I plan the plan is to support <hes> a very very very good thinker on this subject whose want is a practicing physician and who commands the respect of the medical community <hes> to an effect figure out some way so that we can deliver even better care <hes> and have people feel better about their care to I mean they have to perceive the Thurton receiving better care overtime time and stop the March upward of cost relative to the country's output. We've got this incredible economic machine but but we shouldn't The per capita hospital beds per capital the very top stuff in medicine. I think is very much concentrated in this country and that's great. I want us to be the leader but I just don't. I think we're paying price that we're paying seven extra points of G._D._p.. That's one point four trillion ear. The administration focusing by focusing on drug prices that sort of a rabbit hole is missing they they're they're trying and and and and Congress generally talk the average Congressman Day re they regard as a problem <hes> and and they may and they see specific instances you know abroad prices or something like that but it's a big problem to change I mean the troubles Intersex in so many ways and that and that's why <hes> we've got quantity heading it and we've got three because highs organizations backing. We're not trying to do it to make money. I mean that is not a goal that we end up with some business that that <hes> we make money off of. Will he be talking to health insurance for instance. Yes well he'll be he'll be talking to everybody but it's it it has his game plan is not something we're kind of trying to lay out because it his head to some degree obviously we selected them by by hearing and reading and so on what he's done but he'll learn as we go. We're we'll we will conduct certain experiments or he will you know and and try out a community where one of us has a lot of poise. Maybe in there are various ways to experiment shifting gears. Where do you find things like that Abe Lincoln tail and leg quotes I mean you re Bartlett's? Let's book of quotations probably fifty years ago. I looked at a few Bartlett's goes but I read. I read a lot and remember these things things in a pileup. You're eighty eight years. All remember something. You don't remember what happened yesterday but you remember the old stuff that you've got a lot of interesting quotations at your head like you do it. That's great okay so one company invested in was G._e.. Yeah Yeah you did well with an investment and Yeah I was too early. Actually if you look back <hes> I was very active in the last half Apple September and early October and then I wrote that article later October and I knew it was going to get bad. I wrote articles bad but I didn't think the stock market would react act as much as it did between then and March so I more or less used up our powder <hes> well before the bottom Adam was hit. It's interesting. How have you avoided not getting back into G._e.? More recently I mean I'm sure that they've reached out to everyone says a one wasn't Warren Buffet Invest In Jian Save it and take it to the Promised Land Says Great American company well. Actually I think Larry actually doing the job to cope the Danaher. Yeah Larry Hoping to Danaher is a good sale and I think he's priorities straight and I think he's very able guy and he's on the right track and I'm. I'm a fan of G._e.'s in the sense that that <hes> we're a big buyer from them. We're a big seller to him. Knowing the managers I mean Jack. Welsh is a very very good friend of mine and we don't agree on politics but then we have a lot of fun together. I love the guy so I've got a great desire for G._e.. To do it hasn't it just hasn't looked doc that attracted to me. <hes> you talked about the groves of trees and letters shareholder. One was the third grove which was sort the inbetween stakes interests yeah is it. Is it the case that those are sort of not the healthiest grove of trees. Would that be the pilot flying. J's they their companies that under gap accounting we have to record under an equity method we own more than twenty percent but we don't control I and so it does it. It's treated under gap. Accounting is a special category and added it didn't fit well when the other also had to make it a separate grow by itself itself. It's not it's not that significant growth you say that the the some of Berkshire is has a greater valuation. The part is true. Did you ever try to calculate pat. How much is that well? It depends on circumstances. I mean there's sometimes when the float from insurance can be very valuable. There's sometimes when the ability to use it production tax credits will say in the utility business but have them on our as part of our consolidated return helps but that buries a lot it ah but it is a plus and <hes> we can move capital. Well Take Business Like See's candy which we bought forty forty odd years ago. It's a wonderful little business throws off capital. We've tried fifty different ways to expand geographically. All kinds of things doesn't work and we'll try it again and it won't at work but we can move that capital to help by the N._S._F.. Railroad or do all kinds of other things so we've got a seamless and and and tax efficient way of moving capital <hes> words needed and we've got some companies really really chew up capital and we got others that kick it off and and we can move it from one. Have you tried to do that with your investments. You incur some taxes taxes as you go along doing it and it's less efficient than what we've got. You talked a lot about <hes> the tax cuts and the benefits to Berkshire. You didn't really to get into the costs of the tax cut with surprise me a little bit. What what are the are there costs I mean is it just free money well? It makes a difference a tax cut. We for example are utilities as I mentioned in the report that goes to the customers that's just the nature of utility regulation but but net we Amer significant beneficiary <hes> from the tax. I mean basically let's say we had one class of stock. We've got to but we'll start you and I own a business together and we think we own all the stock but the truth is before the tax cut the government had thirty five percent <hes> sheriff the stock on income not didn't have a share of the assets but share the income and if it wanted to change it to four could've changed but fortunately it changes the twenty one and if we we had a private business if we had a McDonnell franchise together an auto dealership together you know the third shareholder that invisible Cheryl the government just ah hazardous back a bunch of the shares of stock at the our shareholders benefited Cheryl right. You talked about a Edgy Jane and Greg Able saying that Berkshire Blood flows through your veins <hes> have they made a difference <hes> since <hes> they become vice chairs and then <music>. Are They like Warren and Charlie no they don't they don't have the interaction they each run. A separate business in G does not think about the other businesses he thinks about the insurance business in Greg does not thinking about the insurance business at all and and I think about the money and the Capitol and so on but they run two very big businesses I mean Jeez business you know has <hes> all told will at least a couple of hundred billion of assets you know and and Greg's business has a hundred and fifty billion to revenues so I mean these are they both would fit up toward the top ten or so in the country in terms of value so <hes> maybe the top top fifteen but they're very big businesses but they're not exactly like Youtube guys. It's a partnership thing about the whole place and we've Deng forever you know and and we still do and tod Ted. I didn't see that mentioned well they they. They have thirteen billion dollars each each including pension funds that are pension that they they run and and so about one hundred seventy three billion we had at year end in equities they had well. We had one hundred seventy three fed and other eight billion pension plans one hundred eighty or so they had twenty six between them that they're mad. They got total discretion on that. They don't ask me at the month end. I look and see what they did. They they don't do much. They don't do a lot of trading or anything but I I I look to see what changes they've made and and <hes> todd for example I mean he made a couple of small investments in in in private placement type operations and I know what the businesses do but I can't tell you their names <hes> that's his baby was one of for those of you made this investment in Oracle and then you sold it was that's something they did not something that I did..

"Let's just take a moment. To celebrate. The great brilliant. Was dying of James were have be bird to you. You're awesome. I'm so lucky to know you. Be bird to you. Neil young Walton. But it brings us today's question, which NBA player d want to wish you a happy birthday. Honestly is probably the guy talked to beat. But if he's busy gimme Dirk Nowitzki. Ron. Jamie. Jeff stay Gino, Greg, Leslie, rise all. Dirk will take care of you. We want to hear from you. So let us on Twitter, which he wants to sing you happy birthday. So this your best bash starters those happy birthday to James worthy. Happy birthday to trade Kirby's. Happy birthday to you as well. It's on tonight show. Leeann I are going to step into the crossfire. We're also gonna talk about that Westbrook kid incident from last night. We got a very solid play. But let's start with a little true or false here on Wednesday. PK takeaway big win for the nuggets. Last night. Got thirty six points nine rebounds in Tennessee's from Nicole Yokich in their third straight victory over the funder the nuggets been holding down number two in the west while their top ten on both sides of the ball and yokip reservation, exclusive and BP dinner table guys true or false, the nuggets of the warriors biggest competition in the west. I think that's false as good as the nuggets have been. I would take the rockets against the warriors because the rockets have been good against Golden State. Unlike Denver, and I think you need any sort of advantage when you're planning against the Golden State Warriors just knowing that they beat them three times already. This season helps big time they beating them five times in oracle over the last couple years can the nuggets do that in the postseason. I can't count on that. Rockets have shown that they can do that. I think the other important thing is the rockets play a far different style than the warriors. The Denver Nuggets kind of play a similar style. Not quite the exact same. But I would rather not try and beat them at their own games. I think the rockets have a few things going for them. Denver just hasn't shown that quite yet. Although they're playing far superior to the Houston Rockets and the nuggets have a one on one record against the warriors. And we saw when they when the nuggets beat the words Ailey this season. Then the warriors had that chance to go back. And they absolutely panel them which tells me that the warriors actually feel that the nuggets good team win there at full strength. And I've talked a lot of bad how the nuggets inexperience could come up against him in the playoffs having not been there before. But then it also could work in favour in some ways that they haven't got playoff ghosts as in like the Toronto Raptors who when they face the Cavs last year, they lost that first game and that killed them for the rest of the series, the nuggets haven't been there and had a heartbreaking loss that could actually work in. If I have that inexperience that youth, but overall, I don't think they are the biggest threat yet for the warriors. But they could be if. Keep going in the next. Here's a here's why it might be true, though, they had the most realistic chance the nuggets to of getting the number one seed, I think we all agreed your best chance of beating the warriors seven game series to have homecourt advantage and Denver's the best team at home in the entire league. They're only one game behind. I'm not saying they're going to grab it. The warriors may hold on. And keep the number one seed that gives them the benefit over other teams. Like, you're throwing out there. The rockets likely thunder whoever else Vicks, maybe beaten, if they get that homecourt venture. It is important to people doing this last night the argument over which team has the best shot at beating the warriors is a different argument than whether the nuggets are a better team than the thunder. They've given so far they have they've now won all three games. And this was a great game..
