People underestimate what they're capable of and they think someone else can do it with they can on so that is self image their confidence in themselves. Their belief in themselves is across the board. I haven't met a new one that That's not an an area where they can improve another one is this we all know what we need to do. But we don't do it so if I asked you. Do you know what are three things you could do tomorrow to move your business forward. You would be able to easily identify those now. What happens is most people? Don't do see what they need. What they know that they need to do? And their subconscious mind holds the macro even taking that action to it's very common and even organization so I'll let's see this quickly. The businesses organizations they take they spend millions of dollars teaching their people to do salespeople training. How close a sale? Then they don't do it and there's very little time on why they don't do it. Well what do you think that is. I mean for example using using the example apple with me of three things I can do for tomorrow. What do you think would be the universe? Universal reason why people don't take the twenty four hours for example does to do what it is to create the success. They want yeah great question. It comes down to the image that they have in their subconscious. Mind about them so because it's the action. Item is in a match for who they believe themselves to be right now censo- to take the action so they stop themselves so maybe maybe it's a salesperson. They might know to make ten calls right tomorrow but they don't see themselves as a successful salesperson and they might have a block about what it means to be a salesforce in their subconscious. Mind and the subconscious mind is the doing part of the mind so on their conscious mind they consciously know that they need to make the calls to be successful but the subconscious mind is like selling is me know is bad or sell a salesperson. Be Right and so they it could force themselves to do it which is three two two. Two four percent of our actions are conscious but ninety six to ninety percent of our behavior is subconscious controlled by the subconscious. Mind so that's going to stop. That blocked will stop them and even when they forced them their themselves. They're in a negative vibration anyway and they get a negative response back. Well that's kind of looking at your when you were the direct marketing as well. That was the same thing that you recognize her. Now you recognize when you didn't think that you could sell didn't WanNA bother people it's it's the same thing and I'm wondering this is just an aside here. Expect you to have an answer for this. But I wonder if that's where procrastination were that were that comes from his well. If there's a correlation between that totally totally yes it's because see the subconscious mind also there to keep you safe so on some of the ideas. The is that people are procrastinating on while it's going to take them outside of their comfort zone so it because it's outside of their comfort zone it's no longer comfortable. Therefore the subconscious mind sees it is not saying and it's there to keep you safe so you're paradigm or your programming your mental programming in your subconscious. Mind will give you all the reasons. Why good point I always teach self sabotage starts in three seconds and the the analogy that I use is someone has a very ambitious goal of getting up at five? Am and going to the gym. Well if they haven't prepared for this if I am when the alarm goes off if they wait longer than three seconds against they're going to roll over and go back to sleep and so what I always tell. People is obviously preparation is key for success. But if you're supposed to do something what I tell people is don't focus is on the full task at hand focused on the first minute and a half of it so sometimes it's this literally just standing up getting up and physically moving like that all of a sudden put you in a different mind space because the body will want to like you said default to the easiest thing if it's easier for me to sleep longer. I'm going to do that because it takes less energy if I'm going to lay on the couch. Oh Dan a Netflix. Which is nothing wrong with that? It's proper place but if I'm going to do that all day and I have twenty things I need to do and I think well let me just show is really good. Let me wait just for the next episode. Also pretty soon. If I haven't just focused on James just get off the couch. My default or people's historical default will be to do the thing that that is the least amount of he's a sensor takes the least amount of energy. Yeah you got to have a bit too habitual way of behaving perfect. I love that the first three seconds. Yea Yeah and it's true because even if you even if you don't do that then you'd like all go to the gym at lunch and then your friends say hey. Let's go to lunch okay. I'm going to launch where I'm going to go to the gym after work. Well your friends want to go to happy I out and so the concept is that could be related to anything is I. Threw seconds are key because wins. You're aware of that. You will make that healthier choice choice as opposed to the path of leaders. Since that's right I encourage people to think of what is with your goal achieved. Who are you being you know? What like what actions are you taking? In what thoughts in what feelings do you have so then that will help you to go to the gym. That's in line with myself. Open my thing. So then that gives me that power to to stop and go to the gym. How do you say that Kinda makes reflect on Helping people differentiate between an ideal self and a healthy realistic self. Do you ever help people kind of shift between that because when we sometimes think of an ideal version of herself we set herself up. Because we're never going to attain that so who I am today and as as I continue my self development is not who. I'm going to be next year. So if I create what is ideal version on myself for I think at the end of my life or today I'm going to achieve that. I've set myself up because that's not a healthy healthy version of myself which then gives me the motivation to achieve for self development so long winded way of asking. How do you help people separate between creating a healthy version of self as a potion Russian ideal self that continually sets them up That's pretty good. Well I work a lot with a concept around self image where I asked people people. What so we work in six to twelve months goals and again who you get to decide who the purpose of a goal is to have you grow? Who are you growing growing into? Who Do you need to be in order to achieve that goal? And so what I'm saying. Being ness is like an attitude right attitudes your thoughts plus plus feelings plus actions. I think if we are constantly commit to that daily Vity whissy end goal in mind It really helps. It's like what can I do today to move myself closer. And it's.

"We can learn. We've all seen many successful people TV. Often we wish we could emulate their life. But what we don't realize is if we don't look for healthy life lessons we miss out an opportunity to grow and develop. I WANNA overheard a man who has mentoring a young man at our department urban store and the mentor was upset with a cashier and once a cashier stepped away. The Mentor told a young man that you have to be firm with people and you have to treat them to certain way in order to get their needs needs met and hearing that I had a different take on that but of course I wasn't going to say anything but it's important for us to realize that everything we learn that comes out later in our life if view learn that. It's okay to treat. People are certain way you will teach that to other people. If you learn that every person is a self made person you will learn that your success is based off of your choices choices. If you learned that it's important for you to look at life in a different way than perhaps your family system is taught you then you will go in a different direction than perhaps your family is going in. It's so important for you to recognize every experience you have there is a takeaway unfortunately if our takeaway in life is everything is negative. Everything is wrong long. We're never going to get ahead in life or people are always against us when we come from that contentious or that oppositional viewpoint dente forcing. That's as far as we're going to go. I always remind people. Look at your thoughts and look at your life like a Rubik's cube there six different sides of a Rubik's cube and when you spin that Rubik's cube around you're going to see your situation or your life in a different way. If you find that the lessons you keep learning over and over again that you're never going to succeed in life. That's you can never get ahead where everyone's against you. Unfortunately you're looking at one side of that Rubik's cube and are not really looking at all different areas of your life we've all experienced heartache. We've all experienced opposition. We've all experienced some time disappointment and adversity but we find a different way to to get around it. I really want to encourage today if you struggle with looking at the world perhaps in a different way or you're finding that you feel like you just can't get ahead. There's so many amazing things out there that can help you for example my guest today. Marc media when you hear about his new book. We're often bombarded carded with feelings of anxiety or worry of. Oh my gosh. What am I going to do? This seems overwhelming and the reality is. It's probably something you've never done before or if you have tried something before or perhaps you felt you weren't successful at it. The rule of thumb is this any time we think about our future and we become anxious more than likely so. You've thought too far out in the future what I mean by that. Is this if you have this dream that seems very overwhelming. And you visualize yourself. Let's say ten years from now and and the idea of accomplishing this goal causes you severe anxiety or worry or sometimes even defeat because it feels too big that is important to bring your vision back to a time time frame when you don't feel anxious for example if you're starting something new then only think about the next couple of months if you think about the next couple of months and you don't feel anxious than that feels doable but it will always be the element that can discourage us that can cause us not even start to accomplish our goals. So it's important to be mindful of emotions at you're experiencing experiencing when you think about accomplishing a goal. Another thing to consider is often we make a decision before we have enough information. If we do think about something that's it's overwhelming will often think. There's no way I could do that. For example if you want to start a new job when you think about accepting a new position without even having enough information nation we often linked together the two steps of decision making and those who steps are information gathering and then the decision itself. That's why why it's so important to gather as much information as possible when you want to do something new gathering the information and then making a small decision creates the foundation for you to feel in control of what your future looks like. And then now but the real thing was that when I came to the United States that is when I realized there are so many opportunities here Birmingham entrepeneurship and believe it or not the very trusting that I did after I got my green card was incorporated. Business really good yes. That's it's fantastic. When I was reading your information you talk a lot about the agile principles agile methodology? How I have? What is that and how did that come about in your career? That is a very fascinating interesting. I think the inflection point in the technology world especially in the software side came around two thousand two thousand one so that is when plan this Some of the developers about eleven of them got together and then trying to discuss in a candy. Do something in the software development so before for that generally what happened was it's GonNa Waterfall Technology. Which is somebody? The business gives the requirements a good double of the software. The developers get into a room for next six months. Or whatever and come back and say hey this is what we developed and then the business People who requirements this. This is not what we wanted things. Things have changed over. This period is right so now they go back and room so it never met the requirements that is when these guys said you know this is not the way. Hey we should be doing. They came up with four fundamental value. Principles the number one. They said we need to prioritize individuals in interactions in over the processes and tools. You know that's number one. That communication within within the companies within the teams in the people collaborate with them as opposed to you have to follow this process. Eddie after follow this tool Hans. I'm the second thing is we always need to have a working software over documenting everything like you got to have some proof of concept and something to show and get feedback on and then the third thing is. We need constant customer collaboration. We need to be talking to the customers and figuring out what they need as opposed to. Hey let's negotiate contract. I'll come back to you in two months this kind of stuff. Life collaboration the last thing they said that change is inevitable inevitable. There's going to be changed so we need to respond to change as opposed to following a strict plan. I mean these. These are the footprints that they had well. They sound like they work very well. I mean when you come from a psychological standpoint I mean there's that just the whole communication part. There's the whole listening to what the other person needs. So I. I really like this from from my standpoint as well exactly and then since then the saw the agile is very extensively and there are people from believers and you you also have of course some of the the other the other side of the side is a heinous too much. It's become too rigid as well. So but overall it revolution has a software development and as I got into this more and more I said why. Can't they apply these principles to other parts of not just software development smart. That's why you're so successful. Because it's basically it's about connecting the dots racist people are using this and then I take that dot and connect to other parts of life. It could be to starting a business. It's the same principles right. I need to is my customer interaction. I need to have something I do on a daily basis to show to the customers. Is this what you want. Is what if I have a price. I know it's going to change so I need to respond so basically it's a fail. Fast methodology allergy loan from failing fast. And then assume that the change is inevitable and then have a plan to respond to the chain as opposed to this. He's my business plan. I'm going to stick to it whatever and ever turn exactly and it's also just creating anticipatory standpoint of what the market may look like what it what it needs exactly. I don't think it's possible for you to be older and then you have been over the last seven days where you are just you have become put it on the pole. "I don't stop I keep going and those are the four steps that I used for problem solving to out my life and I figured that out when I was eleven oh my goodness I'm so sorry you're in that position but the fact that you were able to have that definitive defining moments and it allowed you in in countless ways to overcome so much adversity you've faced. I was lucky I was so lucky as you were. Yes and I'm glad with with the readers who read your book. Where do you want the takeaway to be for them? That no matter how awful awful and hurtful it is you can grow out of that. You can get beyond that I did and I did it. They can do it. You don't have to be pigeonholed and you know I took that ace test. You know the adverse childhood experiences I have nine out of ten my gosh wow but I am not you know I'm not running around with pantyhose on my head. Siring along gun is just I used those challenges as a way to get stronger are and grow forward and that's what I want people to realize that you can you can take this mess and you can make something out of it. You can make a happy life a joyful life a loving life and that's what my adopted family taught me all those beautiful. Do you see your biological family unfortunately my they're all dead now. My my sister Gail died in two thousand and six my mother died. Zohdi died in nineteen seventy five. I saw her just before she died. I showed her that I was going to get married and her response was while. I hope you have better. Elect men than I did. I couldn't find one worth a damn well. That's that is a that is a blessing because you have someone better. I'm trying to reframe that so so <hes> she died and my father who was an alcoholic my biological father she she dropped him soon after I think he was number three of the seven so he died in sixty eighth from associates of the liver so they're they're all gone but I promised my father my adopted father in twenty thirteen that I would finish telling the story of our life together my I my upbringing and my interaction with the family and and how it all turned out and I promised him when he was dying that I would finish the book and I yeah tell me about some of the reviews received from this book. Oh they've been show moving. I've had quite a few professional folks. psychoanalyst's doctors read this and say it's poignant. It's clear it's a description of dysfunction that is is just it's classic and a lot of the folks in the medical field and said that they are using my book in relationship to the their patients and their healing why on earth so cad yeah and also had bill librarian in Seattle a friend of mine who had a Kiddo in the class. I think she was a sixth grader and she was unhappy at home and so my librarian fence well here read this book and the Kiddo came back full of joy and she said Oh I had no idea somebody suffered the same way I am. They made it you know so and I have had that happen to me time and time again it just just like thank you God. It's so interesting because when we're going through situations like that from whatever level it is but for each one of us it's dramatic we don't realize on the other side of it when there's perspective when there's when we find that healing and whatever that may be how much of an impact we have another people or how much our story or how much lessons we've we've gleaned throughout her life can revolutionize someone can give them hope. That's glimmer of hope when there seems to be no hope and I'm so glad <music>. I'm able to share with you and talk with you about this because I'm inspired by this.
