"To bring this up. If if you've just taken the time to look and see what they've done in terms of running the football. It is pretty problematic over these past two games. Mike davis who is supposed to be there. Lead running back hasn't even gone over fifty yards in either contests. They're they're ineffective and running the football which frankly is a bit confusing in this game. or so. Far with the falcons. Because arthur smith was brought in to be this. This run oriented head coach. Who was the office of coordinator. For derrick henry and the tennessee. Titans where they all they did was run the football at people and they did a really good job of it and here. We are now in two weeks. They can't even run the football and it's not like they're struggling. They're just straight up not producing any yards and part of me thinks that their problems might be stemming from that because they can't effectively create any big plays running the ball or any any good yardage running the ball. This offensive lines not really doing an effective job of opening up any lanes for those guys. So i think like you know just from what we've seen run. The ball seems to be a pretty big issue. For the falcons big. It's a combination of things that you just touched on. Joe won the falcons offensive line especially in the interior parts. They're they're young. They're a little bit inexperienced. I don't think they have a lot of power at the point of attack just yet. They could probably use a little bit better. Footwork cohesiveness along that line specifically with jalen mayfield. Who is there left guard. I believe and then another is. They played the eagles in week. One who just shut down the forty niners rushing attack pretty well at that defense is probably better than a lot of us anticipated. Then they played the buccaneers. Who are basically a funnel defense where you just can't run the football against vida and that front instead you kind of have to force them to pass. Colin davis in antoine winfield. Junior very talented secondary. So i think they just got off to a start against two. Really good run defenses. They're interactive line isn't that great analogous as the giants who outside of allowing russia's to the edge. They've been really good at still occupying the gap. It's really those outside russia's in seems to happen a lot towards oceans minute is whenever he's in the game sometimes with his easels. Your laurie. I mean if we go back to week one that seventy yard touchdown run was was kind of on or laureate would just got bullied out of the spot there so i think i think they're probably not going to have a lot of success against this giant front but i will say if they can get creative and attack the edge every time o'shane is out there. That's the one one point of emphasis. Where i think they might be able to run the football on this giants defense which i still consider a solid rush defense. Even though i think are missing dalvand tomlinson pretty badly as well. Because danny shelton's not as good at occupying those two linemen against zone blocking schemes and that kind of makes blake martinez his job a lot more difficult to scrape over the top. Put himself in position to make a tackle. Yeah i agree with that. And there's also just the lead that philadelphia and tampa jumped out to it. Atlanta was able to make up ground against the buccaneers. But once they jumped out to like a two touchdown lead right around the mid game at that point. They didn't really have any choice. But to abandon the run and go to a much more uptempo offense just because they were even though it was wasn't even the fourth quarter yet they were running out of time. You you can't give. Tom brady with all of those weapons. A two touchdown lead and time. So we're gonna get to talking about this defense to very shortly before we do though folks we're just gonna take a quick.

"Yeah i totally agree and i think that we did see a little bit of this when the fell. Instant draft matt ryan. They surrounded him with enough talent early in his career that he was able to really establish himself as one of the better quarterbacks in the nfl. so i think that that's a very good point. Yeah so still. Lot of football left to be played and still several voicemails for us to get through june. So let's let's go to the next one from joe in san antonio as joe in san antonio. I don't feel terrible about the game. i think. Scores of good representation of healthy game with I will say things got really out of hand. Once tampa bay realized that mayfield and hennessy saw attacking those guys and those game over. I really hope they do something with their three dollars and fifty cents. They have a fix that situation. Because you can get right and killed probably going to destroy the team season. And i know we're already pretty low as fans but i don't know we could actually get any lower for the great work. There's always a new low. I think we've we've determined that as falcons fans he asked me. Have mike. Goodness so yeah. That's actually a really interesting. That is an interesting voicemail. I want to ask you this. Gina on that Jalen mayfield rookie matt hennessy. Second year. but you know you could sort of ride off twenty twenty with kobe and no training camp in the rookies Training camp and the preseason so he's a functional rookie as a starter and those are the two guys he pointed out. Defend like the falcons should try to stay patient and let these guys keep getting those reps and hopefully they get better or do you think they have to pull the plug. Yeah i actually have a lot of thoughts about this and the answer is probably not the same for each guy. matt hennessy. I think has a much high. I think that he has a high ceiling of a higher ceiling than the way displaying center. As probably the. I mean aside from you know maybe left tackle or actually probably right tackle. Because that's the side defensive coordinator scheme against centers. Gotta be the hardest possession to adapt to the rookie. It's just a completely different Speed of competition you've got to be responsible for coordinating everybody's movements and on top of that. They have a lot of inexperience along this line and not a whole lot of experience together and so their chemistry is not where it's going to need to be for the unit to be as successful as they can be jalen mayfield. I think just was not ready to start. And i hope that being forced into a starting position. Hasn't you know messed them up going forward. You know it's. It's really hard to come out here and play like this and be the guy standing over matt ryan face down on the ground you know because you allow the yet another sack airlines That's that's not easy. That's not easy thing for young player. Overcome i also think that you know mayfield is because he is not ready if you had said this last week because this is something that i say all the time but if you hadn't experienced center and they're like alex mack. I don't think that mayfield's performance would be as bad because you have somebody in the middle who's used to compensating. Okay for the people on either side of them. And especially somebody like alex mack. Who who did that. Who's been doing this for so long. You know it's it's really kind of second nature to him by now to to know where he instinctively know wary has to help out with the guards and so i don't think that you know i don't think hennessy's capable of giving the guards that kind of support In real time. And so. I think that that's a factor too so from that perspective. I think that you know giving them time to actually. And i remember when the falcons kept saying the superiors go so i'm sure some listeners are going to crunch but give them time to actually gel. Then you know see what happens. I think that it's very possible that some changes are going to need to be made by For right now. I think these guys that you have give them a chance to try and envelope that chemistry and that timing and improve because lord knows that it is going to be a very long season if they do not improve method. That would definitely be. I think you're exactly right. And i even said in in the preseason that one of the reasons i felt like they wanted josh andrews to start was they did not want to start to young guys in the middle of the offensive line. Gina was pretty exact reason you laid out. They did that. Having some experience in the middle is so critical. So i think a lot of what we're seeing now is like you said it's we don't have a center. That has that instinct yet. That takes years to develop and i still think tennessee could turn into a really good center. It's just this is like what it's gonna take is getting for him to get his lumps to learn to see the film see what he did wrong. Adjust to it. But yeah when you've got defenses running t- stunts and all of a sudden as the left guard. You're coming up thinking you're taking on the defensive tackle and all of a sudden he he pushes over in your taken on the defensive end. Who's on your outside shoulder instead. Steadier inside i mean like that it especially when you've got those two guys are trying to coordinate those blocking assignments in the middle. That's where you get those free runners that makes it look so terrible. It's not that they're not even necessarily getting bullied. If it's that they are getting tripped up by these stunts and that can get better over time. But like you said. I think with hennessy. You have to stick with him for now. Because i don't think drew dolman is going to be an improvement. He's a rookie. as well. and honestly a with mayfield. I think you're right. I think if unless he shows dramatic improvement If they get josh andrews back. I think you have to put them in there. Because he's he's played before so he knows he's a little bit more experience and he's played that position before. Yes and. I think that that would make a big difference. But i think that if you swap end-all men four hennessy. Right now it's actually going to be worse because at least tennessee has like has some experience with this starting unit and just even that little bit of understanding of how the guys round and playable give him an edge. I think over dolman. Absolutely fifth voicemail before you head to the break and this one is you can feel the pain of this young guy here. We go this. Miss lost making really like conflict by wide to become a fan. Like i'm i'm i'm a nineteen year old in maryland. I could've been washington fan. I can. I can have now right. I have a terrible. I can house. I decided to follow the same. Because of course i did. I'm the like this..

"Their offensive line's still the same garbage offensive line from last year. They did replace their left guard. Their new left guard is a rookie Some tore up. Yeah but philadelphia. They also upgraded at running. I don't did they upgrade. I think so like they had tom girly last year. He was really good. I i don't know why they got rid of. They have the weirdest thing with running back. I mean i feel like every year. I've been a fan. They've gotten a new running back. Who was the one that they had. When i first started freeman michael turner turner. Who was like a stunned for a few years and then they just it seems like ever since then it's just been a constant turnover said this year they got Mike davis from carolina. He played really good. He did he came in after. Mccaffrey got injured last season and he earned himself a pay day. Light good for him. He played really good in the week. One game against philadelphia so on the defense. They said they did. Keep most of the same personnel. Their secondary is different. They didn't lose some guys there But mostly i would say they're scheme change so they went from four three now. There are three four with all the same personnel. So they're transitioning they so they're front seven all the same they're secondary they lost their safety. Kiana nehal who he went with dan quinn to dallas. They lost safety. Ricardo alan who went to the bengals. They had corner dark weeds dennard. I don't know if that's how you said he was. He laughed got signed by the cardinals. Then he was released from there with an injury settlement. So they're only starting corner that's returning from last year's aj terrell so they replaced everybody else so their secondary vulnerability i would say for sure and then they also replaced their hunter interesting. What you know the who was the the guard you said that they drafted the rookie. Do you have his name. Yeah hon just mayfield jalen mayfield. There was calling out after the game where he said apparently during the draft he was like a. If you want your quarterback not get hit draft me. He tweeted it out or something. And then there was a picture of matt. Ryan laying face down on the the overhead and mayfield beside the philadelphia. Guys like celebrate in the background. Yeah it was like he did not have been game. Yeah watching that. And if you listen to the last podcast. I said you know it looked to me. Like atlanta's offense of line got destroyed but pittsburgh philadelphia's defensive line and atlanta's defensive line could not do anything against philadelphia's offensive line and i was like i don't know which in and they blitzed a lot atlanta blitz la. They just really couldn't get through. And i was like i don't know who it was. Philadelphia was good or atlanta's bad. Or you know what dude. So we'll find out. But the more i think about it. I think that atlanta was just really bad. It's possible you know. They have the advantage of the continuity. I think in the roster with their learning a whole news learning a whole new system and coaches and so certainly that takes some time to gel. If it's going to at all so either way to stephen means he's still on the team that's crazy..

"That's easy and after that. You know who is in jon allen and that'll be easier right the the jets are coming up soon. Yeah you know they. All they have is who right. You know just little coffee right. Yeah well know. At least the giants don't have great edge rusher so or they can you know help out of it when they go to go to miami in a few weeks. He'll be fine all they have to. Make it to miami. Chris wilken but maybe maybe drill in mayfield was going to be that player. Julia know wasn't good in training camping. Got like not many wraps and then he would just turn on when it comes to the regular season. You just olo is going to happen again. I want the kid to get off reps. And i understand that i just want the team to have like okay as you pointed out if this kid takes these early season ribs and mentally. He's getting beaten down from it. Like what answer do they have the only answer. They probably have at this point as well. Keep rolling them out there. He's going to get better. No point as army and to his credit. Arthur smith did mention that. You know he thinks that jalen mayfield is very very tough minded individual You know he made a point of emphasis to make that statement when asked about him I don't think any of this has been fair to jail. Mayfield now like no. From the very beginning. He was dealt a very very rough hand He comes in. He played right tackle in college. And you know projects more as a guard in the nfl according to the roi score and that's completely fair. They drafted him as a judge In training camp. They don't put him. They don't give him the left guard reps they give him the right tackle raps. He doesn't get enough reps. And then he comes in into the regular season. Basing fletcher cox than Right away like this kid was just set up for failure in my opinion from the very beginning. Especially someone who you know. We weren't really expecting when he was drafted. We weren't really expecting them to make that day. One impact was a player for twenty twenty two for next season. And you know he comes in game one all right like you know your throat your thrown to the wolves essentially because the team didn't really address left guard at all and except for with josh andrews who you know he got hurt entertain new would have been much better so yeah definitely like would some perspective jalen make like he's he he's getting it on social media and from the fan base but just keep some perspective that this really isn't his fault like it's not his fault that he's in this position really bad for like really bad for him. It's it's one thing he's a you know it's a veteran or if somebody's playing a position he's ever played before in is just every every detail about it. It just feels unfair to him But yeah it'll be interesting to see see where it goes from here knocking to get a whole lot. Easier moving forward but hope for his second hope for Twitter sake that determine like again. I'm more upset at. How team handled this than i am of jalen mayfield struggling because you've got nervous but no i like. This was a recipe firmness struggle. Like everything came together for him to like you know struggling because of course in week one. Yeah exactly well just remember like in the preseason. The first preseason game that offensive line was an absolute disaster. Preseason week two against arguably i would say much better defensive line playing mostly starters. The same guys looked a lot better. So there's a chance that it could. And then the cleveland game came and they just you know thumb dolman was taking the carries from philippi. Franks that's how how beco- throws running for his life and again they look benz they are. We're ready fulfills go. Forget yeah yeah. I mean i it was. It's very rough for mayfield. In the whole offensive line's going to have to grow up very fast. And it's unfortunate for them. But i would have been like mayfield would have been coming into this game at the same place mat. Hennessy was you know having to dan rea. Maybe getting a couple of spots starts under his belt just to get used to it going into week one against an all pro defensive tackle. No it's like okay. We'll never planned on the left before you never played offensive. You never played guard before. That's fine just go in there and play against like one of the best defense arrest. Anybody that can relate to jail of mayfield right now. Is matt hints. Your first career start. Is chris jones and your second one is against vida obey look hit a go do it. So yeah i hope honestly and this is the way i hope the hennessy is probably to the side and saying hey i know it's tough for you but you know you gotta we gotta work our way out of this collective we as a team on the unit. Yeah yeah and in fairness hennessy has his own struggles like he he. He was a twenty in the last game. Pass like the only reason times. Guide honors for not mentioning. That is because mayfield was like a one so this is only what his fourth career start. Yes he's not it's it's is. He played. I think he came in. Let's guard or something. Yeah he's not that far ahead of right. Yeah hey what's good thing about the offensive line. Was they all consistently run. Baulked well Which is something we were not at all used to seeing ever. So we'll him. Credit for that even mayfield with his abysmal grade. Like an average run blocker. He was a good run blocker. mcgarry was serviceable. Obviously chris lindstrom. That's not nothing because this the right and the use of play auction in the future more and more will help negate some of those amazing pass rushes. we saw arthur smith you know. Use that in tennessee beautifully. The last couple of years and used play action. Lot more than dirk. Carter did last year especially on the early down which was really nice to see you know. That's one of the positives on the offense but the pass blocking has to be a lot better for that to be effective in for that to be put in use in the first place there. Cutting us play action when you're down twenty twenty two seven late and a fourth. Yeah let's do it. Roll it out. Place we one. Everybody knows running the ball. All right man. I mean yeah thank goodness. He's a hit. I mean we're we're obvious it's easier it's you know to harp on the negatives in the negatives were glaring right now but You know but it's very quietly being a real solid guard. Thank goodness jake matthews. i'll never you slander. Never understand it like this man is just out there on an island on the left side next to the worst left guard in the nfl. Still getting it done and people are still like. Oh why is he a captain..

"You can may be deal with somebody who is a work in progress at one of those guards spots if you have a really experienced center white. If alex mack were still holding down the middle that line. I think that jalen mayfield probably wouldn't look so shaky. Because mac has the veteran experience and presence of mind to help compensate for that weakness. But you know with hennessy. Who doesn't have nearly as much experience as alex. Machias like my age. The family forever. That's a very different situation. And so what if factors player hundred percent again. Another really tons of great points in these voicemails and after a game like that. I'm not going to discount anyone's reaction to that made zero next one up hi. This is german hurston georgia. I just just decimated from this game. I locked a cell phones pants on eighty one and i think we are. I only stephanie. From breaking my daughter's tv is that i had her husband. I'll have to borrow that dog for the rest of these things. Her slow jams my guy because i also watch all games with the puppy and also the only thing that keeps me from breaking my own tv much of the time. Oh man. When i played that one play twice because i was like oh jim so first of all. I've been watching like my first falcons game wasn't eighteen eighty one. It was the playoff game against the dallas cowboys. So i feel very connected jim. And his experience with the falcons and said we are cursed. And i almost broke a tv. Jim i feel you man it. Your daughter doesn't let you bar her puppy. I have berry rambunctious friends bulldog puppy in borrow anytime for extended periods. This fantastic are mike from chicago. Has some thoughts harley. This is mike come on away from chicago man. I've been southwest fare since the michael big days and that's again into it but speaking moments camp sneak one man on this very disappointed i though the eagles and be one of our easier but just the she spot like that very disheartening on still holding out. Hope you know game one but you know. It's kind of funny to think that i'm looking at next year's draft. Qb's over roy are writers the site that cover the the draft or probably already getting ready with their travel aches for twenty twenty two. Yeah and i mean part of being an. Nfl is knowing that there will be seasons when you start carrying about the next draft that week two or week three. That's the unfortunate reality. Yes it is and for mike for chicago Sorry i mean like you're in a city that has I ron drafted the quarterback. Many falcons fans wanted to take and on that note. Our next voicemail focuses on the quarterback of the falcons alert matt ryan alert at ryan head. Alert he's craig's. There was a or unbelievable i would. I would have been outed. We put up twenty point. We've come home at rain. What's really going on before. I even as they be dispersed guy. No not the no defense to be a lot for even though he well at least we stop. What what though. Put the play on the piece but we had. Our team is good outfit. I like oh or over performance. Dirty birds yeah go first of all. I love that dude. Buddy opens voicemail by yellow matt ryan hater alert multiple times. I i love that. yeah i you know. I do think that it's fair to talk about the impact of the offensive line. How long matt ryan's performance. I mean he didn't have time to do a simple five five-step drop and so now that said the renzo performance was abysmal and ending that i had questions about play and i had questions about execution. I think that there is a lot of blame to go around. But i am also going to realistically acknowledge that matt ryan is making..

"I had to get up at ten. Am to catch game on the west and the one thing i wanna say i guess is you know it's a little frustrating is this. This game looked a lot like the preseason did like the offensive line the holes offensive line. The defense could get to the pass rush. And there are a lotta open holes in zones and guys not reacting. I do get on defense that then. That being jesus going to get these guys together and that they knew the secondary's almost completely turned over back there so i understand that part of it but we knew on the defensive line that we didn't have pass rush. We knew on the offensive line. Jalen mayfield by the second. Preseason game that he was not the answer this year lease for sure and we didn't find a veteran option. We didn't pursue some of these veteran options to kind of fix some of those concerns or issues that we're going to have and matt ryan today. He just didn't look great but he didn't. He didn't have a heck of a lot of time against really really good defensive front from the eagles i mean. They were in the backstory all day long. Yeah my biggest concern is we sold This idea that we're not rebuilding that we can put some pieces around and we took a tight end number four overall. When they were quarterbacks in the board there was a left tackle on the board they were quarterbacks who could have slid down and go to go get so my biggest thing is. This is not what i expected if this is what we were told. We're not rebuilding. I mean we behave like a team. That wasn't rebuilding. We remain choices like that. And then this is the performance that is put out on the fill so the buy in from the fans. It's going to be challenging because we have different expectations if we're told something but if we understand that we're gonna hey look. We're not gonna take a quarterback we're going to take a tight in and i love cockpits. I think he's a great addition. But that's what that's what you take. When you have all these other things resolve. And i i mean maybe there's a different plan that i just don't see but right now. It's very disappointing. I mean i'm still trying to remain optimistic. That they'll be an okay team I know we're not gonna run gonna be a playoff team but just a better performance than today really voicemail. Yeah yeah absolutely muscle now. We've heard from several callers Just about technically not supposed to be on a rebel then like how allieu keep perpetuating notion after the way. The team played on sunday. And honestly for anyone that feels that way. The blame you like this. They were lifeless on sunday. And i think that he made a really good point they did look like preseason and they did not like they were playing at full speed and they did not look prepared for the regular season. And so you know i think that it again raises the question of should the service. I've played during preseason a wonder obviously we can't do anything about that now but i wonder if this begins to inform and change the approach in future years and that we can't predict that but the end the honestly the preseason get shorter over the next several years when the nfl is going to move to eighteen games. That's that is guaranteed to happen and when they do it's probably gonna be two two preseason games and whether team's going to do to prepare before that first regular season game gets here because you know if you use that first regular season game is your warm up which is what. Looks like the falcons. Did you start in the whole you. You can much starting to whole unless you're going up against another team. Decided to use game one as a warm up. So i do think that this year is going to be a learning experience for alternates. I moved it is lots of balance trying to make sure you're fully evaluating everybody and making sure that you're retaining. The best is for your team and.

"Dial you aren't even starting right know so that's wine and into our offensive line. Looks horrible. they look like old veto car. Being held by bubble com three rbis military pot though fault advertise arthur blank and the fans that it wasn't a veal but i mean they look got off for. Is that of lying. To tell the truth. The revealed you got the rebuilding. I mean you're talking about weighing now if you're talking about winning now you veterans on your out into the defense to stout in them mother and make them compatible. They were competitive. And for my last point this is not just because they have every season they like some rally video with like a locally ardy or as racial video from the super bowl the super bowl every time they do one of those video we suck band seasons. I'm year crucial accountability. Stock that because there's no point pushing out content out there. We're not waiting. You're not supposed to win. Who has got to say so. I hope you'll use probably on twitter. Underscore alex now. Holly jolly beat down next week. Really insightful voicemail. And i i agree really on all counts and i've cracking up about the watts point because that's easy video. I didn't see it until after the game. It showed up and like hide splitter. She might've missed. And i was like you have got to be kidding me right now like it made me twenty times more mad the see that after that loss so But yeah i mean you know. I've i've talked a lot about the preseason already so i just want to talk touch on his point about the offensive line. I don't think that make the old would've been starting if he hadn't been forced to because injuries. And i think that mayfield still has the potential to be service spoil starter. But it's really hard when you throw a guy out there who's just not ready yet and it's way too much for the rest of the line to compensate for and so if you have one one weak link along an offensive line. It's bad enough. When the link is as weak as jalen mayfield is at this point in his development. It is like a car. An old beat up. Car holds gathered by bubble gum. I mean i. My other comparison was gonna be like wet paper. Towel stretched out that ryan. Why jake matthews can hold one end and you can send wants turn out to the other tackle position. They can hold it man. I mean it would be about as effective as just about on sunday. Yeah but yeah. I thought that i thought that that caller made a ton of really good points. Yeah the the video thing cracked me up and honest. I can't argue against it. He's dead on. It seems like a year. They've had those damn videos and You know i. I do wanna say in fairness to falcon social folks. Who were on the website. I really love like the crew that they've got their you know scott bear bring in tory mcelhinney. Who's been on the podcast They i think they're doing good job as they can. And i just want to say to people who you know sort of go after them. They're they have no control over the team folks they don't you know tores not out there dropping passes she is. She is not coaching. The offensive line. No no so. Give them a break in the social media team to yes. It's tough for all of us. All right forth voicemail. Here we go. This one's a different point but a thick another good one as well along. "I mean jalen mayfield. At tackle was pretty bad. I think that's not a surprise. He's guy that didn't have a ton of reps in college. He only started eighteen games due to injury in cova. And that sort of thing always a guy that i pretty much thought was wasn't nfl guard. I think he can certainly play tackle in a pinch. But i don't think he's ever someone that i thought would be sort of level prospect as an nfl tackle. And i think you saw y you know. His length is is an issue. His size isn't the isn't the greatest and while he's a bad athlete at tackle below average at guard. he's actually pretty good athletes. I think he defected. He is sort of transitioning to the left guard battle. Now probably what. The team always sort of wanted from him. But auden let you you get the first shot at this. We mentioned it. Jelly may feel did get started today. When josh andrews had to leave for cramps he's moved into the second team left guard spot. How confident are you. If it was jalen mayfield. Starting in week one at left guard. Still not very honest with you. This this is going to be a position of weakness one way or the other or another just like it has been a position of weakness since Since andy Parted ways with the team. Jalen mayfield especially now. I think the team kind of botched it a little bit with jalen mayfield. I think they should have. Ideally been you know prepping for that left guard battle from the beginning from day. One because you know he was drafted someone with the idea of transitioning to a guard like i don't think he's a tackle at this next level in the nfl but he can he can pass as You know maybe one day. A a solid guard. But he didn't get. That opportunity wasn't fair to him that you know the team. Just put him into that right tackle role which he probably would not be ready for especially in year one. He's probably not gonna be ready for a guard role in your one but let alone tackle so for me that just took away weeks of potential developmental time guard especially would especially someone who played tackling collagen. You you wanna transitioning over to this position at the next level you know i just. I just think that this was a blunder by the coaching staff. To be honest. And it's one of the few blunders. We've seen from this coaching south thus far. But especially now i. If if you told me the jail mayfield going to be the starter in week one. Would i be happier than with josh andrews. I mean sure yeah. Yeah but that's not really saying much. Yeah cut you're still talking about like an unproven rookie. Who you know who many of us didn't expect to really contribute in year one when he was dropped Taking the reins of that position. And you know overall. I the only thing that would make me confident in the opposition would be to go out and make make an external lou for a guy that's non currently on the roster i mean but you know maybe maybe mayfield improvement wrong. Maybe drew dolphin can prove me wrong. I mean i hope. I'll be the first one to say to tip my cap to them if they do. But you know right now. I'm not exactly competent. These rookies are the answer in twenty twenty one rank guard. Yeah it was always going to be a tall order. And i was. You know. I think pretty bullish on jalen mayfield at guard and i and i think if it was like look i mean it's it's what you said. It was an easy decision if we had to choose between josh j. Mayfield at left guard. Start the season and we didn't have any other options. It's obviously jalen mayfield. And it's because like he can grow like he. There's a chance that he starts out very shaky. But by the end of the season he's solid buff guard and those giving him those reps even if they're bad like that does have value whereas giving them to a career backup like josh andrews who we know is bad and who's not gonna be here in future years. It's a waste on both accounts. So that's kind of where i'm at. But yeah evan did you ever take on on. Jalen mayfield hopeful. His prospects at left guard this year. Or are you still hoping for a veteran signing trade at this point Well if it's all about like winning this year than yeah signing or trade or something I agree with what you in on non were saying about. You know the best way to for him to grow is to be in that position at struggle early. Where like joshing andrews. I mean it's safe to say we know what his ceiling is He's not all sudden. Gonna turn into a pro bowler where mayfield you know. I'm not gonna say a pro bowler but he's got realistically more of a chance because we don't know what his ceiling is at a position. He hasn't played or josh injuries. You know what you're getting out of it So yeah i mean. If if that's the route they ultimately decide to go with. Luckily we got two more games so we can kind of see you know. Maybe he'll actually didn't play at left guard and give us a better idea. I know he was looking okay at The like joint practice or whatever. Yeah yeah you know. Let's see it in a you know a real game I'm no what's preseason but like you know it's more of a game than a joint practice so Yeah but i'm i'm not too optimistic on either one being a great left guard right out of the gate anyway. So i'd rather give it to mayfield just for the as you pointed out the experience. Yeah yeah and i think especially if is playing poorly you just kind of have to get like. Yeah go ahead. I was just going to mention one thing too. Is i know you mentioned. Pf earlier two guards actually finished in the top five offensive grades for the team in. That was sam jones. Who's right guard. Got a seventy then And left guard ryan news who a technically the third left guard got a sixty six point two So you know that doesn't mean anything though but it's still like okay. Maybe you know. There's some talent there toward the bottom Yeah no that's a good point. Because i think we should talk about positives to and i think if you're looking at offensive line positives it's pretty limited. But i think those guys that you mentioned sam jones who played a little bit of center and a little bit of guard and ryan news all the undrafted..

"She loves doing that. It's like sport for her. She goes where it is. She knows her computer. It's oh yeah she found me. It's not anyway yes. We found a guest for next week. Yeah and i'm going to get her to say okay to a nonetheless. So yeah the depth chart his. It's funny because when you know you're right the one story you you present and i wrote a mailbag today reminded things digits fun and you know if you wanna like use the conversation starter like cigarette like sit around and talk about with your buddies like that sounds bad but sounds like what we're doing and i think that that's a good thing even if it's not going to be an accurate reflection of where we are maybe next week right. I think right tackle. A great example really beaver storms into this spot and jalen mayfield gets pulled down. We all know where kayla gary's gonna if he's healthy right like i don't know maybe i'm wrong. You guys have seen more football than i have but nonetheless. Yeah i wouldn't say we should take that for exactly. The coaching staff feels about their for balti. Manam long winded. But you understand yeah absolutely. I agree with everything he said. It's there's like some spots where i think it's a little bit interesting But yeah i mean. I think pretty clearly. It's it's kind of sorted by almost like experience like it's like they took the guys with the most years and put them in starting spots and that's honestly i. It looks to be on some of these some of these ones. But there's some that. I think are a little bit interesting like where. It's kind of like two veterans like punter for instance. Evan should be all over this Cameron is like he is listed as the starting even though he was just signed over. Dumb measure o And he's also the starting holder which touched on it. He was young way coups holder back in the af so again. I think it makes a lot of sense to kinda reunite. Those that one is interesting to me. See if there's any other ones that really stand out. I mean like i do think it's interesting to see someone like chris williamson at corner listed as like the third or fourth quarter depending on how you look at the depth chart. He has been legitimate press. That could sort of reflect coaching staff. How they feel about him and then another one. All before i let someone else take a shot would be jonathan bullard on the defensive line. Sort of listing like three or four lineup. Here and bullard is listed with the first team. He has been playing with the first team so it does seem like there is a vote of confidence in the the veteran who can play sort of an inside outside role if required. Dwi i'll go to you next. Is there anything anything interesting. You wanted to touch on on the depth chart less about the players. And if you look at the offense and helps listed and you mentioned that earlier kevin in. It's something we've talked a lot about in this offseason. They are listening their offense as being a twelve personnel grouping and in the past you have normally seen either three wide receivers tight in running back or one side in two receivers fullback running back. And we all have speculated because arthur smith ran this this particular offensive grouping more than any other offense coordinator in the league in twenty twenty Running that twelve personnel was a big part of what he did in tennessee. And he's this at least in. My eyes is announcing that. That's his intention and i think that leans towards the idea that they're probably going to keep four tight ends. Because if you have to starters at that position having lay three guys available on game day is going to be problematic and so for me. It's less about the specific names. Because you know no one buys. Cockpits is a backup. I'm sorry pr person who put this together. We're not buying it But i do like the fact that they are sort of. Signaling that yes. Our base package is is Is the twelfth personnel. That arthur smith is known for. Yeah yeah i agree. I think that is an interesting takeaway. Maybe that sort of thing is is something that is meaningful you know the way. They're constructed the offense because like under shanahan like you mentioned it was more the twenty one personnel With the fullback listed and then under cutter it was three. Wide receivers listed that sort of thing so That part i think is legitimately interesting eric. Any anything that you saw on the depth chart that you that you found particularly notable really outside of the willie beavers thing that was that was a little supplies and seeing what you know if you watched enough football you know that you know the first depth chart going into the first preseason game is is not i mean there's no stronghold to that must be quite honest with you is going to change next week so look completely different And you know these. These type of things are are fun to an extent. Kansas the casual fan off guard. You know they look and see lee smith as the starter over. Cal pits her. What the hell is what is he doing was out doing out. There is going to take so you. Have you know.

"Recap some of what. I saw in training camp. Today's saturday august seventh. This was the practice at mercedes. Benz stadium Where all the proceeds for five dollars tickets went to emory healthcare's research discovery program. Kudos arthur blank in the falcons organization for putting that together. This was a good bet for fans to be able to see the stadium. see the sights Get a feel for where. The falcons are tracking so far under new head coach. Arthur smith and new. Gm terry font though. So i want to start first with the offense. Because obviously arthur smith comes in with an incredible pedigree of to really really fantastic years in tennessee as offensive coordinator. So clearly that is where the falcons focus will be for fans. That's where the focus will be with. The falcons going into this season is what will this offense. Look like under. Arthur smith and they'll talk in some generalities before we talk about specific players Some of the things that immediately jump out in with this falcons offense and a quick note. Before i jump into this The falcons primarily this practice was Eleven on eleven. I was fully pad the practice. There were there was no tackling so it wasn't There was no tackling as part of this but they weren't pads and the majority of the hour and a half practice was eleven on eleven so It was actually really good opportunity to see you know. Obviously what's going to ultimately be some vanilla play calling from arthur smith. He's not going to show off everything. This offense is gonna do in practice. Where twenty seven thou- twenty seven thousand fans in attendance. So please keep that in mind. But i do think it gives us a glimpse into some of the things. He's going to do differently. Some of the things we anticipated. And some of the things that we were hoping we would see So first of all with this offense the one thing that immediately jumps out is motion pre snap motion almost single offensive snap. That i saw had a player going into motion and whether it was just going into motion and then resetting back into their original position or going into motion and changing their position within the lineup Starting with the running back with Four white outs running back. And all of a sudden you're in a five wide The other thing with going to motion it was almost always. I would say probably eighty maybe more than eighty percent of the time. It was one of the tight ends when the ones were on the field it was consistently Hayden hearst cal pits would occasionally go into motion. I'll talk about him in just a little bit But if you were wondering if the falcons we're gonna use pre snap motion a lot this year. The answer at least based on this practice is going to use it a lot. It's i'm telling you. There was maybe less than five snaps offensive snaps less all today where there was not a player in motion and this tracks with what we saw from arthur smith in tennessee he constantly had guys moving before the snap. And this is. It's an easy way for offensive coordinators to try to get the defense to show What what defense or playing with her zone or man It also gives the quarterback You know some options for Getting guys emotion right before the snap and creating some positive opportunities for them. So i would you know. The falcons were one of the worst teams in league. I think the jets were the only team that was worse than the falcons in twenty twenty for using pre snap motion. That is going to be a night and day. Difference going into twenty twenty one The other thing we saw a lot of again not a big surprise from what. Arthur smith did in tennessee. A tremendous amount of play action. The naked bootlegs that we used to see under call shanahan saw quite a bit of that As well now honestly. We saw more of that. I think in this practice from philippi franks and aj macaroni on mccarron but Arthur arthur smith is probably just using that initially as part of his installs. Obviously matt ryan has done a ton of that in the past under kyle shanahan and steve sarkisian in two thousand seventeen. The two thousand eighteen so i fully expect. This is something that we're going to see a lot more of again in Twenty twenty one. Hundred arthur smith so too big takeaways. Tons of pre snap motion A lot of play action as a part of this offense so let's talk about some of the specific players on the offensive side of the ball. One of the first things. I want to point z. Offensive line because there was a change in what we have been seeing camp up to this point With caleb gary still out Jalen mayfield the rookie drafted this year has been getting most of the first team reps at right tackle And you know that's somewhat to be expected. Matt gona would have been the guy but he is also out for an indefinite period of time Gentlemen mayfield had been getting all those first team snaps today. For the first time veteran willie beavers was taking all of the first team reps at right tackle. I will note from what Tori and tori mcelhinney and michael rothstein were saying afterwards that coach smith indicated that was because in his mind. Willie beavers have earned. Those reps wasn't necessarily an indictment of jalen but more about what willie had done. This will obviously be something. We watch ob- obviously when kayla mcgarry comes back. That will be something to really keep an eye on this to see what happens at this right. Tackle position. I had intimated in a previous podcast so i felt like right. Tackle may have more competition than people were thinking. A lot of people were pencilling in kayla. Mcgarry to be the starter. I don't know that we can say that with absolute certainty and now with Beavers getting some opportunities there. We'll see if mayfield can crack back in and they can exchange some of those reps but right now Willie beavers is a starting right tackle at least in camp and again. There's three preseason games to go. We'll see how this plays out but definitely a position to keep an eye on a week. From now when the falcons play their first preseason game next friday evening against the tennessee titans so definitely want to keep an eye on that The other thing to keep in mind as so far matt..

"Dave walker. I'm joined by fellow writer on necas. We're talking about the falcons roster going into twenty twenty one specifically offensive line. The first half. We talked about jake matthews. Chris lindstrom or concerns with kayla gary. Now let's talk about That left guard spot because center. There's not a guaranteed starter there Let's talk about some of the names. That right now are at the top of that list. I think If you were to ask most people who do you think would be the day one starter at left guard if it was built just around who's on the roster today i think most people say it's probably gonna be josh andrus. Who is the one of the few veterans in this group. And we'll talk about the the youth on this roster in just a minute is in. My mind is probably gonna be josh andrews. The other name. I think that people are sort of clinging to as someone that the again for reasons you mentioned in the first half a non is someone that was drafted by this. Regime is jalen mayfield The rookie out of michigan Who is sort of a consensus head. Scratcher of the draft but a lot of people feel like There were other guys that could've taken when they took mayfield. Maybe his draft position didn't make sensors talent but left guard a andrews mayfield. Anyone else what do you think about position. And how concerned you that this is a question. Mark thing into the season this other than edge. Right now is the biggest question mark on the balkans roster completely. Because you know i understand. Love guard has been a position of weakness for the past few years. Because thomas dimitrov could not evaluate offense to save his life and he had a you know gave james carpenter up some big money to play a below average football for the past few years. But you know two carpenters credit. He was better last year than he was on the year before that like he wasn't carpenter wasn't an abject disaster out guard last year his pass. Blocking was you know solid sixty two according to a pro football focus and you know he someone who still someone whom. I'm sure the fan base isn't losing any sleep over him leaving and you know i'm they're welcoming him now. Being on their offspring mortga josh andrews last her endless light joe. Josh andrews his pass blocking he may james carpenter. Look like david brock. Dra concern. I mean like his pass blocking great according to pf was in eighteen point one word. I almost didn't even know that it could get that. Low it among among offensive lineman who played at least twenty percent of their team's snaps lost. Your josh andrews had the third lowest ask blocking grade in the nfl and this is among like over two hundred players along the offense line. So you know. He's someone who is always a below average passed last year was was really the first year where he really you know kind of playing time. He had fewer than one hundred snaps Of time before last season and last year he was just dreadful. Also you know hopefully like you said. Arthur smith can work some agic with him. And but you know. I'm going to be incredibly incredibly nervous. If he's lining up at left. Guard for the falcons. But you know right now is the proverbial favorite is because jalen may feel is pretty raw like jalen mayfield's feels like a pick you make per year to right but he may have to. You know be thrown into the fire and your one right away because you know daily mayfield. Someone who played at the tackle position in In most assignment college. But he's gonna take into a guard. Position is because he's he's better suited for that by his skill set his ram score. Was you know pretty poor. A four point something. I forgot what ugly it was as a tackle but when he kicks into guarded it's above seven point. Oh which is which is very solid Mayfield as someone whom. I'm going to be rooting for him in this In the offensive line training camp battle. Because if we're if we're going to be week at position. I'd rather we'd be weak with a a young rookie right. Learning and hopefully improving as time goes along because josh andrews is thirty years old. I don't really expect him to be good. But you know This is why this is why. Caleb mcgarry is so important because you can have you can have a weak link along the offensive line. You're not gonna find really very many or even maybe even any offensive lines in the nfl where they have five very good starters. You know you can afford to have that. Weakness can't afford to have three positions of weakness along the offensive line. Because that's just that's just a disaster waiting up. Yeah and this is i. i'm with you. Edge is a concern but this one in my mind is probably if not the biggest. It's right there it's second With with the edge position And you mentioned josh andrews. Six years of experience. He's thirty years old It would be surprising if he suddenly became a decent starter You know that would be some dark magic dark. Lord magic from arthur smith to turn that around to that degree This past week on colic live a myself in aaron freeman of the fans of the lock. Dhanjal can spot cast a guest on this podcast. Many times we were talking about this and aaron. Basically his one of his takes was the starting left guard is not currently on the roster and He making the case that he doesn't he thinks don't ultimately either trade for somebody or look for veterans that gets cut. You know to be a flyer at left guard. And i think he's probably on something I i'd be a lot more comfortable without either of these options because remember the last time the falcons did that was with andy. Le'veon's it'll be tree right and ended up being a very solid starter. You know for what. It's worth. I give i give democrat a lot of credit for making that. That was very savvy. I think that was after the four three season game where they just they just saw. What a disaster. The line was and that third preseason game against miami and they're like all right we we can't we can't have we'll see. I'll be very eager to see. Just how josh andrews and jalen mayfield perform and you know the young guy that center course In the preseason you know then we can possibly reassess our comfort level A few weeks from now. Yeah and that's it. I i feel like we have to add that caveat for the entire offense of lying because To the point. I was making earlier. The death for the falcons on offense right now going dresden. This is there's no doubt. Yeah it looking at the roster The for the offensive. Lineman purely offensive lineman Players with at least three or more years of actual experience in the league. There are three players for the offensive. Line Jake matthews matt gono and josh andrews who we just talked about otherwise injured. Yeah and ain't to exactly ghana's injured so to healthy players.

"But the falcons how they were able to use the throwback black helmets where it was the same helmet in same texture and everything they just put it on a different logo but a lot of teams like Let's say The eagles if they wanted to use their kelly green All i think seventies eighties helmets. It was a brighter green so they couldn't do throwbacks because they had to keep that same color Which wasn't a color until the mid nineties. I think for them So now that rules gone next season so this season like you'll still see the falcons not have a red helmet in stuff but In twenty twenty two the they'll be allowed to have an alternate. So you know from what brent was saying. he's you know one of the top. Dudes with the falcons. In you know has played a big part in the uniform. Design all that He said that pretty much. They're all fans there of the red helmets in that Basically when that rule went away the red helmets would return in Is sounds like that could be sooner than later. Since the roles on twenty twenty two in i saw in the nfl memo that the nfl Nfl teams have to notify the league by july. Thirty first of this year Like what helmet they wanna do for next year because everything happens in advance so we may hear something about the red helmets you know in next month Which i'm hoping for because that would be great news even just to hear like. Hey they're going to be you know part of it in twenty twenty two because he basically also said that they had Red helmets in mind with. I think the the gradient. Once i think he mentioned or something like he. He mentioned that there was like some plans for red helmets. So you know. I think that's pretty exciting. I know some people care more. I'll see oh. I just care about winning. And that's cool but you wanna look cool on the field to like right. That's you know that's part of it. And that's i mean for me. Be becoming a falcons fan. That's what played a big part of pardon when i went to a game When i was six years old. I saw. I loved the Black helmets and black jerseys night thought that was cool. And that's why i became a fan. Now has a certain claire anything. So yeah look. Kids make decisions based on jerseys man. That's a fact okay. There's no shame in that. Yeah like i mean. The falcons color scheme definitely helped matters. I mean it was mostly vic for me just because that guy was a possible to ignore right but you know the the red and black was a big thing as well. so falcons long had some of the best jerseys in the league particularly in those vickers to with the black primary and the red as an option. So i'm excited to see you know he did. Jukes definitely talked about incorporating red helmet into the gradients and that was honestly like plants. I'm interested to see how that looks too. Because i think the gradients came out on the field looking a lot better than folks had thought they might. I'll be. I'll be one. I thought i was like this is going to be awful looking and they look pretty good. I thought so. Yeah yeah. I mean very few teams have done the gradients. Well you know you look at jacksonville. Disaster right a lot of teams. Just they don't execute it. Well they try to get like two flashy with it. And i think the falcons using the black gradient the black is a good one to do especially when you kind of incorporated into the whole uniform and not just a jersey. I think that was that was smart randy. Wouldn't you think of the gradient jerseys where you are fan or not yet. Definitely wasn't a fan when i saw the pictures of them or whatever but yeah i don't i don't mind them once a year. It's not like it's a. I think if it was like every week it'd be a little different that's the problem with the jaguars when they had the i think it was black and then like to gold It looked awful but you saw it every week. If they did it like one week it would have been like okay. But i mean i thought the gradients look good that one week so as long as it's like once you know once a year whatever i don't see a problem in. Yeah exactly even. If you don't like it i think you can put up with it for a week. So that's kind of where we are with that. But yeah it's gonna be exciting to see the more uniform combinations. And i know the fans that were upset that there wasn't like a red throwback or more of a red primary. Look with this with these new uniforms. We'll hopefully get their wish when they see the red helmets. Make a comeback after this world change so we're not going to see it's twenty twenty two guys just to clarify like it is still a year out but it is on the horizon now officially instead of just being like something whispered in. Nfl backrooms or something like that. So definitely excited about the jerseys. All right well. Let's get in to the experience to me because i'm dumb. Those red helmets. They showed off. aren't gonna they. Don't all talking. Jim right so what you probably are referring to is. They shared an image from Report it was like a photo shop of helmets that they users leaks and stuff. But that wasn't the exact helmet Leaks and stuff. But that wasn't the exact helmet I don't know this Specifics if it's Because the current helmets or more of like a Jukes used like a certain word. But it kind of looks like a matt helmet instead of like all glossy and shiny like that ran home. It was in. That's what like they're older throwback home. It's where it was more of like a glossy red helmet but the black helmet. They used last year was still that matt helmet so. I don't know if that they're going to do that. When they bring the redback or if they can have just a totally different like texture to the helmet. Because that's what would have to happen for that. Look which. I thought. I like to shine. But you know yeah the masterfully interesting. But it's just like they can't actually have the second helmet until twenty twenty two. they were just. I guess announcing the rule change now so teams. Prepare for twenty twenty two their uniform designs and things like that. 'cause i think all of them have to be approved by the league and all this stuff and it's very very bureaucratic red tapie but you know i'm excited for them to hopefully launch soon and i guess it is. We don't know exactly what the the uniform will look like at this point but i think if you've seen the throwbacks from their years you have a pretty good idea when it's going to look like at this point and still have the rent pants that i still wanna know how that's gonna work because of the the striping on the side Yeah I think it's black or whatever and it. Just there's no other black strides up the jerseys right here right all red or white. I think I have no idea how that's gonna work unless you have two colors clashing into each other right. Maybe they'll just make another white jersey. That has the black stripe instead or something like that. That would be. I think the easiest thing just a quick little chain so hopefully something like that because he i think the colors clashing. I think it would look really weird. But you know we'll see we'll see but yeah all right defense talk last week. We talked about the biggest offensive position battle. Spent a lot of time on guard center. Now that mac is expected to miss some time. We spent a lot of time talking about the possibility of jalen mayfield..

At 15, including the Heisman Trophy winner Devante Smith, his teammate Jalen Waddle. Both of those wide receivers were still on the board, and Michael Parsons, the outstanding linebacker for Penn State. We picked Michael Parsons from Penn State who fell to 15. You wanna know what you think? Of our mark and that selection. If that's the way the lions would end up going also, we want to know when it comes down to just her. Jalen Mayfield. You think he would be a steal? For an NFL team. What Michigan player out of all these guys that are are eligible to be drafted over the next few days. What Michigan player do you think could be a steal? 734998 10 50 coming up with 5 40. If you missed it right out of the gate, we told you how we felt about the NC. First stuff lately. I'm sure for you that no Did you see what Michigan's could be paying? Their upcoming football games is from New Mexico and central What they're giving the opponent million dollars. Yeah. I got it. All right, just cast. Is that right? Just getting about right? That's what that's the going rate. Hadley. I'm sorry. I didn't hear that. That's the going rate. Yeah, but how much your I'm sure that if you knew how much ever getting 16. I said a million dollars, I guess. Although I'm sorry, I didn't hear you what they're giving New Mexico 1.8 and Central 1.5. Yeah, that's about right. I mean, yeah, you they make between three and four million. Okay, you're talking about in 2022 because they're playing western Washington in northern Illinois and their nonconference this year, So that's 2022. The agreement is, that's what you're talking about. Yeah. No. On. That's what they're paying those teams that's in 2025. Next year's non kind is got CSU. Vie and you can But in 2025, the non kind is New Mexico. The Lobo's at okey At Oklahoma and then central coming to town, 2025, But, yeah, I think typically, that's usually what the going rate is. I think for most of these, uh, Group of five Non cons or even the like the F B F C s. I should say. Yeah. Who knows? Hardly if they're even gonna be playing those teams and 2025 when you've got 63, you know potential different models that are gonna be in a college football playoff. Maybe they expanded to 16. And cut that non conference by a game in Michigan will and I'll trim out New Mexico and they won't even be in the pictures. What else did I just see what you wrote for the end Zone intro today. Happy NFL Draft IV, also known as Lions Super Bowl leave. That's clever. That's I mean, that's what it is. I mean, it's the kind of college bend for for the Lions, where it's it Turns into you know who the who the lines are gonna take and possibly see if they can get themselves out of the You know that the long turmoil of one playoff win in A long time. I mean, it's kind of with the Jets as well to the Jets said this the coming up tomorrow It's the Jets Super Bowl. It's the Lion Super Bowl, the JAG wire Super Bowl. A lot of these seems that have not fare too well in the postseason. This is their Super Bowl, thinking that this guy that were again he's gonna be the future of this franchise. You know, never really is the one thing about the Jags. I mean, they were just a couple of years ago. They were in the championship. That true Aaron had a chance in the second half mean it was a tough call that went against them that would have gone for a touchdown. They would have gone to the Super Bowl and No, they're sitting there. I'll tell you. What if we were sitting here and talking about the Lions pick it up. Trevor Laurence, I mean, really would feel like a Super Bowl. It would feel like you know that they would end up going to a Super Bowl being able to get you know the The elite quarterback, the generational QB instead, you know what? On big Bob Gardner did it again. It's there's so much moment, um, for the Lions at seven to just stay right there. The fans. The media Everybody loves tackles here in Detroit, Panay Sewell will be will be heralded as a fantastic pick for the Lions if he ends up Being selected there and you'll talk about the offensive line for the future. "I'll tell you what. I like this. Yeah. Jalen Mayfield was one that I could go with, But I like this list right here. I like what you talk. What's what You're saying, Um The Ah! What Josh Gaddis was saying and then I mean, Jim Harbaugh could be on this list to Jim Harbaugh. Let it rip. Come on, the man said, let it rip. You don't think that me inside? Jamie. I considered putting coaches In the top five. But I think that Jim Harbaugh would be number one on Always here. Always going to mention Jim Harbaugh this week with just yesterday with a contract discussion, you know, next week, it'll be whatever he has to say on his doom. Jim Harbaugh will always be number one. And then whatever any coach, you know, talk. Ah, They will also be on there. So I put the coaches. Ah, put him over to aside now. When basketball gets going and the rest of sports on the rest of sports. Hopefully all Coronas Well, to include them on who gets talked about the most. I think, um Being able to include them and maybe expanding the pole a little bit. We will. Ah! We'll probably have to do that. Yeah, it's gonna be interesting. 7349 at 18 50. Ah Griffin. Young up, Anthony. Why do you hold a man Jamie? He was He was on hold for 15 minutes and we're talking about the with with P I texted you. That and Call that Griffin, if you will have you in this I feel bad. I mean, but he called during a guess. Guess when a guest designer let the guests have to have the table, you know, saying I tried. I tried to take care of our guests. Let them get their words and I don't want to interrupt him with a collar. But I mean, you couldn't say Hey, we've got a guest. Anything. Call us back or You know something? Whatever. It's okay. I'm just joking with you. I love the mess Which you, man. You're funny guy. You there you go. See, uh, some other players that I think that we can I mean that I mean, we talked about I mean, the way that J hardball he kind of gave us the guys that the positions and how they're going to play. You're going to play of Zack Sharp Today He's probably the starter. You're going to see Chris Evans, who's going to come in as the change up guy who could play running back and split shift out the wide receiver. You're going to see you, Si Hassan Haskins because he runs tough and he likes the run people over and different things like that. And then you always get to see a little Blake Coral and you know guys that can and they're looking for the big place. So I mean, that's that's I mean, I could have put The word running back on this list, too, along with Blake. So so I could I could see that too. Ah! It wouldn't really talked. I mean, and you could put the corners down. I mean, Not only foster I mean, they talked about the many guys that we had looking for to make that position, you know, so I mean there. There's some guys that he brought up. Me. Vincent Gray. They talked about talked about Diamond they talked about Green. Didn't he say that I think Jim Harbaugh said. That, Uh, well, I mean, don't forget deejay. Turning his name wasn't brought up the D. J. Turner was on with Don brown down. Brown brought him up. There's another guy. And in the recent one Chris hit Yesterday. There was a lot of Chris hitting coming out. Everybody was saying this guy needs to show up and show out. So I mean, he's gonna be He's gonna be account of counted on to make maybe an impact type of player. I mean, you're talking about a five star. Okay. Anthony did a job 7349 18 50. Let's go to Griffith. Jamie. Thanks for taking my call. Listen, I'm 72 years old, You know, I hope I got some time that I just don't know. Um Let me ask you this. My dad will be 97 in January. And when I say 97 98 97 hell out, Walk me. Okay. Ah, But let me let me say this about Nick Saban, First of all. ISS If we brought Nick Saban back to Michigan State and said, Nick, save and take over this team Would would we still consider him my great coach at the end of the season? My second point ISS. I still believe that we had a deficit to Ohio State, not in the coaching, but just in talent. When you look at the players, a lot of the players we want When it comes down to us in Ohio State. We're not. I don't believe we get 50 per cent. I believe the majority of Goto around ST because Ohio State has been a winner with a higher percentage. So I still believe and poach our balls. A great coach, But I still think we're the deficit when it comes to talent. Ah, lookit lookit our wide receivers last year in the last few years You never heard of. Ah, big separation. You put speed on those Indians and people respect speed the guy covering it. He did not go to be dumping in running because with speed, speed or run past that So I think what coach Harbaugh until we can at least become level with the With the recruiting I think that that.

"Man that was an juiced. He eyes playing good football like he said. Look, Missy, a Dennis, he said. I was playing good football until I hurt my knee last year. Ah, good thing is Jalen Mayfield was right there to step in and do that and do that job. But Stiller's He's ready. I mean, look, he was going to start. The season last year. Had he not gotten hurt, so he not only does he have a chip on his shoulder from last year, but he he wants to show what he could do to So that the end he's willing to make the move down the position at the guard to make sure that Linus solid Well, you know, today is really when it starts today's the first day that they can hit the corners could get really good work in seven on seven going against the other. You know the Michigan wide receivers and you can feel pretty good about that, You know, quarterback running back But when you're talking about the offensive line on these guys now Ah 1 October 24th comes around and Minnesota. I don't know how you have to bring your whips and chains against. You know the Gophers defensive line, but it's going to be these guys got to get a physicality. And it really starts with that offensive line today. I think Jansen said it yesterday. When everything's fine. You can sit around and work on your steps and passing guys off and everything else that you have to work in unison and the offensive line. But October 24th when the Gophers are trying to rip, you know the quarterback's head off. That's when you know you've got to prepare, and it's all about out for the line. You know, Starting today, you know, really over the next 1920 days will be in the game week by then. This is where we're going to find out if these guys I really have You know what it takes, you know to be a upper tier. Big cat offensive line. And, you know, maybe just there will the Aah factor in how far they might be able to go. Well, it does. How? Knowing that you got stupider and made feel and you got Hayes and these guys have they didn't start continuously, but they do have starting Ability. They do it. They did play during the season last year, So you have some guys that have had a chance to sharpen themselves against. The number ones of the of the Michigan defense and today is hitting dead. So guess what they'll be they'll be hitting today quickly pay will be getting blocked. By that offensive line. 800 will be getting blocked. One on ones will be going on the day they'll be doing. I wish they did. The Oklahoma's. You know what the Oklahoma's are. I hope you know what the Oklahoma's are, but they don't do those drills anymore. But they'll be going one on one against each other. We're gonna find out real quick. How guys are doing If you really want to do go drive down their job. Pass. Go upstate street. Look it see if you could see guys, they'll be guys limping. Every guy's walking around with a cast so they'll have they'll have buddy tape on their fingers. Have everything changes when you hit You'll find out the boys from the men. I mean, the proverbial Here we go now, its time And guess what, Not Everybody's going to be 100% anymore. Everybody today yesterday was 100%. Today. Not so much. We'll find out who Who does what? Who did what? Pretty soon. Maybe tomorrow. But, yeah, you're right. We're gonna find out. But some of these guys used to getting hit and some of these guys are your to be hit to get back into it. So going up against Minnesota? No. If you could block the guy over you That that is the number one guy over you. You'll be fine with Minnesota. Don't worry. That is game speaking. Speed is in you anyway, you just got to maintain it. Game. Speed is OK. Do you have the practice in you each and every day to go against the guy in front of you? That's what you need to think. Think about that go against one another each and every day. That's what I said. A couple last week you're going to start hitting and you're going to start getting bruised. You're going to start getting those those bumps and bruises. That's calcify ing the body getting ready. To get here. Cause you only have X amount of days. Now take away Take away two days. So really, we got 23 days. No, we had 21 days because they're going. They're going a parrot down. They don't want these guys to get hit beat up too much during game week. So really Really even have 21. They don't have 21 days they have maybe There may be 17 days before they have to pare it down and get ready. For Minnesota. So you're right. But guess what? What you need to be right about is Are they hitting today? Are they knocking the hell out of each other, which they will be because they feel good. They there 100% and they're ready to play. Yeah, well, it sounds like you're ready to play. I should tell you that you can point knew of Michael's orders around the other side. We'd have talking about the corners. Their lack of experience. And you kept saying, Like From what? You knew the shortage would have him on point and ready to go technique wise and I think my mother ever met my exhorted JJ. You ever met my lineup? No, No, I haven't. But only I got way have got to go in the corner either. Well, yeah, I'm ready for that. And I've never met Ed Warner, either, but I know that anybody that talked about Michigan's O line. Talked about Ed Warner. They come away impressed and not just with his resume, but just what he's able to do is a zone offensive line coach. I just like, zoned me started. He does. He's a no nonsense. I forgot. He's a no nonsense type of guy. He's going to tell you how you feel. And one is the same way. He's a no nonsense type of line. Coach. He knows how he wants the block. They look, the thing is. Is that what I what I like about this offensive line? They know detect me. He taught them the techniques how to do it. They've walked through it now..

"Battle at right tackle. Well, that's been fun to watch. And it's ongoing. I don't think it'll be resolved in the near future. But that's it doesn't need to be. You know, Andrew stupor started the last couple of games force of the season last year, and it was solid. Yeah. We have Jalen Mayfield who didn't lose his red shirt but played a little bit throughout the season. And we saw a lot of right things at him. So we've had six practices and three of those practices. Andrew's been the first team, right? Tackle on three of those practices jail has been the first team right tax. So I would say the reps are pretty even and eventually it'll separate itself by virtue of somebody will be more consistent both have very redeeming quality. So we'll see where it goes. But it's fun to watch. Because competition brings out the best in everybody. Not that there's not competition at some of the other positions. But that tends to be the one that's most focused on. But. Time will tell time will tell. They're not the same guy. So they're not like working on the same thing. They're different. So, you know, which one can perform the best and most consistent, you know. And that may be a very close call. I mean, I may go to the middle of August. You know, I mean, it may be decided sooner. But you never know. Meantime, tells I mean, they they control that really how much do you weigh that Andrew has started games appear to Jalen display more. Is that factored in when you make a decision or is it a little bit? A little bit. But some of that was because we didn't want to lose Jalen Jere. I mean that was by default we kept Jalen out of a couple of games to save the year. If we would've may maybe that we might have played it out different. Whereas I wanna be I wanna.

"Still looking for still looking for for improvement for for week three, but thought the team started faster, start in a play, the whole, the whole game. It was. It was an all day thing to him. It was really important to them. They prepared really well for it. And so many good things. Played so many players, seventy four players got in the game. Great for morale. Eighteen came in is as walk ons just watch their improvement and success is is a great feeling, but we got the feeling that we need to be a hard working team. We need to take nothing for granted and we need to do every single week prepare ourselves for every Ponant that we play, and that kind of team could be really good thing for me watching through spring practice and then watching in the fall camp. And I saw some things that I truly liked and and then I think this put a put an exclamation point on it on Saturday, the improvement in the offensive line. I'm coming off the ball with flat backs and getting leverage own people and moving moving people around. I saw that and put a smile on my face. I saw a team playing together, offense defense and special teams. That's what I'd seen through the spring. And then this again, just. Put another Mark on it. So it was it was so exciting and thrilling and being seen you up in the stands with the with the fans and the high fives and the score. But let me just make one other point when second group went in. I mean, there are some good good young players in that group, and I don't get into some names or things like that, but there are some freshmen in some redshirt sophomores in there that that is the season moves it going. We're going to see a lot slot more of them and and they're making tremendous improvement doing ask, you won't go too far into names but three guys, because you mentioned the walk ons. First of all, Jake McCurry scoring. A touchdown was really cool Jesuit. Hewlett recovering a fumble terrific job there as well and your heart. I mean, he's booming at fifty plus yard average. Those three guys walk on huge contributors for the game on Saturday. Yeah, Jake recurs. Little brother got in the game against second week in a row and could go to keep going just bait and Andrew for starters. But as you mentioned, we'll heart did a really nice job. Punting the ball over fifty yard average jig McCurry had a neat reception and it was all those things are great. I know dad's kind of looking at that some of the younger guys that got in on the offense align like James Hudson who played really good and also Jalen Mayfield did a excellent job over there at left tackle getting and getting their first action. You can build on that so much. It's one thing to practice as a football player and practice in wonder, can I do this in a game? Will I be able to do it in a game? Once you've gotten into and you've, you've had some success. I mean, you start to get that to shark with blood in the water kind of analogy. I mean, you want more of it..
