"Step. A separation man covered their plan so if this is a good ball that allows him to catch this stride. There's some chance for some pretty big. Check on that play because there's not a lot of guys on the defense that are kind of closing in able to help and make that tackle right away so but the ball ends up being a little bit low down by his knees and takes him to the ground so he has throws like that and i think the other area that you would notice like accuracy that isn't exactly where you want it and this was something that absolutely showed up with him last year is he does struggle a bit on the move just just for whatever reason is far more comfortable when he can be stationary stationary in the pocket definitely doesn't have that same level of like touching it just tends to leave balls kind of behind or just again like on on the outside edges of the catch radius for for the receivers on the accurate adjacent exactly exactly so i think yeah that was <hes> kind of the most encouraging thing overall though from him compared to third and then and then you saw them both kind of had a play that wasn't so great that kind of stuck cows well. Let's talk about the interceptions for a little bit because i think after the game you look at shanahan's post-game comments and he was pretty explicit. They were both bad interceptions and then it seems like ah on mayo goes pod that listened to today. Maiocco said that he kind of put the c._j. Beathard one a little bit more on jalen hurd and kind of walk that when a little bit back but when you look at their interceptions perceptions i think they are they both had some elements where it was like yeah. I can understand why he threw the ball and also man that sucks that it was a that was an interception because you look at mullins interception option and you've got to laugh in the formation dallas's playing cover three. You've got two of the hook defenders in the middle of the field and one of those hook defenders should really carry that at linebacker the third receiver on the inside all the way up the field and he doesn't and he's able to kind of peel off and get into the area and intercept the ball. If mullins lins holds the ball just a little bit longer and actually throws that tight end he's going to have a pretty begin in front of the safety and that titans not going to be able to recover so not only was it kind of like got. You should've kept the ball a little bit longer and throw it somewhere else but then the decision you do make you kind of can put a penalty on that one right so i think they're they're kind of <hes> an element of of force in like i think you know it's tough to say definitively of course but i think there is an area that he theoretically put that ball right the completion so one it's compounded by the fact that he's getting hit right. He's releasing the ball and so that definitely alters the trajectory. The ball takes any sort of air. Kinda like sends it on a more downward trajectory that goes right to the linebacker so where he would need to put it in order for this avid chance at being successful is kind of more up in a little bit away from where that linebacker that only linebackers dropping to you and so when when the hit comes and it sends that ball down it just take any opportunity that that's going to happen but even if you're just looking at it from a decision like you mentioned. It's still kind of a questionable decision so i i think there was an opportunity for kind of a clear big play within his vision kind of in his i read that he's looking at their if he stays on that for a beat longer in his able to get a better read on the leverage of that linebacker vacher in sees that he's not gonna be in a position to cover this route..

"Certainly is however, one of the problems with Pettus, if you look on film him coming out, he's, he's six foot one played. Pretty felt I mean he's one hundred and eighty one pounds or something when he came out. So I liked the fact that he's putting on a little bit of weight. He's an explosive player. He was a special teams dominator in college. But on the field. I mean he's the defacto number one on that team. And I insist I've been insistent off season. Look, you bring in deebo, Samuel, and Jalen Hurd in these other peripheral wide receiver just Mark is Markey's. Goodwin is still there. But none of. Those players are going to do a Dante Pettis dozen this offense. I think he can catch eighty pounds. I don't want to speak too much because we're, we're gonna be talking more about Dante Pettis here in a short while, but I watched some interviews with him. He was talking about how the playbook Shanahan's playbook is a lot. And he said, coming out of college, like he every play when he'd get to the line, he was just so in his head trying to figure out what to do where the defense is that what the play call was all of that stuff that he, he was, this was all based on a question of how how's Jimmy Garoppolo been this year compared to last year? And he said, honestly, I it wasn't a joke. He says, I don't remember how Garoppolo was last year. I couldn't concentrate. And, but my point in saying that is, that's where deebo Samuel. Jalen Hurd, are going to be this year. They're rookies they're not gonna come in and just steal the show from Dante Pettis. Dante Pettis has a huge leg up while I don't like that the Niners look that tried to go. Oh, Beckham they tried to go after Antonio Brown. They did draft wide receiver. So their confidence in their actions hasn't been completely. Poured independece, but he's great..

"That's good, man. Yeah. You have to have a personality. You can't just be a robot. And I think he's definitely not a robot. That's. Yeah. I was gonna say like I'm going to be seeing him in log room, and I don't want. I want to be able to joke around with him afterwards. If he made a play or whatever it may be let's get. Yeah. You got some jokes to one he might go. Some low blows, you know, real quiet and try to act quiet. But he he's got he's got some character. I'm all here for the jokes. I like to hear that. That's good. Well, you go get it from. All right. Not at first. But eventually, they'll come. I've been so we talked about yet saw his personality. So about you've worked with plenty of receivers. Do you have like a comparison for who? Does he remind you of? That was tough. I had a bunch of people during this whole draft process for him asked me that question. You know, he's different from all the guys that I've had are poach forty Dave's. But the titans, and you know brush guys who went on a plane, the NFL, you know, just with his size. And you know, it's his ability able to you don't just use that size to catch the football. You know, he's totally different in a lot of guys. I hit just because he had played position for awhile. Right. And so it's hard to make the comparison of especially the guys that I've cokes, but he reminds me of, you know, Kwame older as far as his size, and you know, just how aggressive he is. And just how he loves football. And that's about the only comparison I've kinda used with with Linda's of action, and I've I'm of diehard Florida state fan. So you tell me that say, no more. That's all I need to hear man. We're getting player if that's the case where on your, no doubt. Bolden was dog overplayed yet. Yeah. Yeah. Yet some fighting him for sure I mean, forty Niners fans know that he was here for. Couple of seasons in all year. He was tough, and he caught the football. And you didn't matter how fast he was. You knew he was gonna find a way to get open and catch the football. That's another guy that. Yeah. Like, you mentioned he's not he wasn't a burner..

"He he couldn't figure out whether he wanted to, you know, use head fakes to get around them or just gonna run through being bigger when with the guy, so yeah, that's something that I'll be keeping an eye on for sure. Especially if he's going to be playing over the middle of Phil. Yeah. You'll get better at those things. I mean, you you, you know, you got only so much that you can improve on that stuff especially in the college game. Just because you don't class restraints and ours was restraints and stuff like that. But I know it's our restraints there in the NFL, but you don't football more than you know, you worrying about right or chemist protests. Yeah. You don't you'll you'll have a chance to improve. And and like I said he's around some great coaches that little speed that process up on. Yeah. Absolutely. And now now that it's his job there. And now that he'll be able to do this every day and see what he's doing everyday review those practice a review his praxis before and afterwards. It'll be I imagine. It'll just be a lot different. So yeah, that's a good point as well. So hurt went in. In the third round. Do you think that was good spot? Former where where did you guys think that he was going to go? Well, you know, I thought he may have been you know, we probably could have been a late second early third round pick went where he ended up going. So I think that was spot form. I mean before God it just plays position for one season. I mean, you you got drafted the punch guys playing the position their entire lives in. I think that's a credit to him showing that you know, he has some ability to be able to do that. But you know, I thought they'd been a, you know, a second round pick to to early third and he ended up right there at that spot. Yeah. And we're talking to you like you mentioned his ceiling helps them a lot. It just natural ability helps on the lie. But he puts them really did things on tape for a first year player for first year receiver. So yeah, I think that third round just ride around that area. And then I mean, just go into the forty Niners helps a lot with who's calling plays all year. No question when when when an offense of. Guy like that. When office got Shanahan takes his chance on you early in the third round. Where teams are still looking for starters. I think that speaks a lot about you know, what heard can be no question. You know, those guys know what they're doing. Let them around football time, Colin and John. And so, you know, just trust the evaluation, and and I think done a great job by getting a great player like him. So you mentioned he's like a straight up serious guys that how he is all the time when he's on the field. How is he like I mean, he's competitive as heck man. And that's something about our program. You know have been here at Baylor. I mean, we're we talked about competing and competition. And he's he's he's the faith of that. And he's going to compete, and you know, he'll go have some fun and beating her own E. He'll joke around he'll laugh and have the time. But he understands that. But William between those white lines about this. They're saying if you take care of business, I you know, is a lot more fun. You can have a lot more fun. So he's business. I and have fun second. And that should give them a chance to have a pretty productive career..

"So this is why he's number three, but he does carry risks because if Pettus breaks out, and now all of a sudden, they've got more with deebo Samuel, and Jalen Hurd, and these guys that are that are not allowing kindled to be up in the hundred and thirty targets then then there's risk their eighty eight receptions last year for thirteen hundred seventy seven yards. Four year college career, forty eight receptions. Yeah. Well, he went Swannee receptions in his junior year twenty two and his senior year. So I'm looking at fantasy full just makes me laugh, all caq calculator. But right now Zakar is the to twelve and George Kittle is the three o five are you willing to pay the price for either of those guys if that ADP were to hold a you just said Kelsey is no irks is the to twelve George Kittle is the three o five. I think I would pay up for. I would I you know, the truth is what you're sacrificing their. I if wears Kelsey two oh five. The target that would that would be the that would walk us. We we all agree on Travis Kelsey. That's why. If you said one twelfth though, you know, there there've been years in the past gronk has been a first round. I was like, hey, you guys want a Snickers bar you want. This broccoli. That's why I didn't put the Snickers bar. I it was a time though, this offseason and is before the tyreek south happened. But it just looked like on paper like Kelsey was going so high and kiddos going so low that kid who was the obvious pit to me. I don't feel that way anymore. Right. You got around difference. So. Let's go to number four on our early tight endless OJ Howard out of Tampa Bay. I haven't six Jason. You got him up before Mike at five. OJ Howard needs to stay on the field. If OJ Howard stays on the field. He's too talented to not produce. I think that's what we can all agree on he's earned before. Overall tight end last year finished at thirteen. But he was the fourth most consistent last year when he was actually on the field. So has to take a step forward. We know Cameron brakes in the rear view mirror. Bruce Arians, hasn't traditionally us tight ends. But again, I still go with the two talented rule. All right. Yeah. I mean, that's that's my thing is whatever Bruce Arians wants to do. And he's going to put a better offense in place. Jameis Winston uses tight ends. Jameis Winston will look for his titans. Running down the field. There's no way they're not gonna use OJ Howard and capitalize on the gifts that he has if that's the case and he plays sixteen. I mean, you just said it he he was one of the most consistent tight ends when he was playing fee stays healthy. I don't see how I mean. Right now, I've got him. Mm down for only eighty six targets total. And we've been talking about comparing that to these guys who were up at one hundred thirty plus targets and this is coming out as my tight end four because I think his red zone opportunity. His ability like kill to just break away on an eighty yard run. Not every tight end can do that OJ Howard has done multiple times and will continue to do it. So when you when you have those big massive games. You also have a tight end coming into what is his third year in the league. That's usually how long it takes a tight into really come into their own at least. So his his pace last year in games. Played seventy seven targets fifty four receptions nine hundred four yards eight touchdowns. That's great for as I in in this landscape. Yeah. I mean, I think and then you have real opportunity there. They didn't spend up in the draft to go get another wide receiver option. You lost Humphries? Yeah. You lost de Jack's. He's going to be used, and you know, coming out of college. If you if you remember if. You've been with us for the last three plus years when he was a rookie. This was a generational talent. OJ Howard was like okay since gronk. He was you know, we we've talked a lot about teacher Hawkins sin and Noah fan this year to really good prospects..

"Ways. Carpool would lock and Wiley marks is back with us. Let's move to San Francisco where new report claims there is friction building between the forty Niners codes cow Shanahan and general manager John Lynch with the two not on the same page about the direction of the franchise after a disappointing first two seasons. Together. Shane have reportedly wants his own personnel guy to run the draft and free agency. The when asked about the report the coach called quote, complete b s listen Bleacher report, I think had this report. I think there's truth on both sides. I think at this time of the year NFL draft if there's not friction between the coach and the front office. There's a problem. And so there could be a problem in some friction that doesn't mean they wanted divorce that means it's draft season and they'll get over. But why this report this year when the last two years we've seen them in their media Vail ability after the draft. They both been present. So why this year why does she when you go out there and the draft you get Nick Bosa you get two receivers deebo Samuel versatile. Jalen Hurd, like I don't see where it comes from like everyone's praising the forty nine draft this year and all the moves they made all season. It's a little mind boggling that this report comes right now when it seems like everything's in alignment, we'll having done several games last. You haven't been around. Both those guys known both those guys very well. Part of part of having a great organization is has to be some discourse. There has to be some disagreement. There has to be some argument. I was coached by one of the great office of line coaches ever has koshen Alex gives they were times when we went toe-to-toe face to face cousin each other out. But you know, what we both had the same goal that same vision in mind, sometimes we had different ways of getting there. But we had the same goal and vision in my remember these two guys worked at deal together. Signed contracts that were identical to one another that paid them. Both the same go down the road for six years. And they both knew by the way going down this road. It wasn't a one year fix that. It was such a mess that it was going to take several years. So they knew full well what they were getting into. They may disagree on some of the players. And remember they had they had accolades last year for their drafter two years ago. A Reuben foster is no longer there. Right. And and Solomon Thomas has just not been he's been a tween. He hasn't really been an inside guy. And he hasn't been able to turn a corner from the outside as defensive in. So they've had some issues in some miss in the draft and that will create a little bit attention during this time of the season. I'm with you. This is this is healthy disagreement is healthy. Yeah. But the first station we are hearing is probably organization that's all schedule. Look when your franchise quarterback goes out there and gets hurt throw the clipboard away basically that year. I mean, it's going to be very difficult for this team to go out there and live up. Expectations went Jimmy G was hurt. So this year coming into the season, not say that they don't have disagreements, but for it to become worthy and kind of the loom over his franchise things excessive I think someone in the room saw these guys have a knock down drag out and over a second third or fourth round pick a coach loves a guy scouting department. Does it somebody's gonna win or lose the argument? Somebody's feel is going to be hurt. And then somebody seeing that can misinterpreted or make more of it. Right. Then what it really is. And to get in the moment could cow hand be like F this guy. You know, he wouldn't have had this job without me. We did this. And he and you feel betrayed. I saw dick for meal and call Peterson copies the general manager of the cheese. They got cross ways over Larry Johnson running back out of Penn State Carl Peterson wanted for negotiator. Leverage against priest Holmes..

"I think anyone in the crypts is at risk. You guys. The Crips are the safest place in winter fell. They have all the oughta is the safest place, you can be Harry Hogwarts as the safest. But no one is ever broken into green guts, did you know that no one ever in penetrable Crips or the safest place in winter fell. Everybody in the crypts is FOX. So I think the only people that come out of the Crips alive are Tyrian and aria. I think there there's some more. I'm interested to see. So one thing I guess less prediction mortis interested to see if it happens is Mel asandra. She's so she's kind of going back, but there's like very clearly need to bring her back at some point. There's been like the stuff with aria. I'll see you again at some point. She said to various I'll I'm gonna die rose Ryan the strange country. Yes. So she's going to show up at some point. I think back at potentially be interesting. What job and do what I don't know. So. Yeah. I mean, there's we don't have time to get it. There is some interesting stuff that could be there for her is kind of. You know, sacrificing herself essentially to other some greater power other thing theon is gone. Oh, he fucking better. Be. I'm over the. Yeah. No redemption story for him. Not at all. Yeah. Who else is? I mean a lot of. I mean last episode was was great. It was a a episode to say goodbye to a lot of care of. Yes. I think they basically prune this down. And so at the end of the episode, we are left with Danny John Tyrian, aria Sansa. And I wouldn't be surprised sensitized sounds is going to die at some point. I think I don't know. I don't know. Maybe not in the show they've really played sauna up as being, you know, more of a power player now. So yeah, I think that's the core on how many people we got to drag it like this is clearly the exit strategy, right? Some people are going to scape through the crypts. Like, there's there's the the kind of secret exits through the crypts that that are in there that people are supposed to be able to get out of. But so you're going to get a few people there. But generally, it's like who can hop on the back of the two dragons that we've got and get the fuck out of there. When when things go bad, and so I think, yeah, you're looking at like what like a dozen people may only only Gary can ride dragons. Well, only they can be the primary riders. But we saw like with Danny taken people out there like there's they pile a bunch of people on right with with her. So yeah, we're going to get. That's how people are going to get the fuck out of there when things go real south. But it's not going to be a lot a lot of people that we have a lot of characters. I think that we. Really loved pods. Oh, yeah. Pods fucking dead gone sex pod RIP's. Yeah. There's there's a lot of people are going to die. There are a lot of fun characters bureau sex. "He like he doesn't even have a set position right now. Right. Yeah. Because he was a running back and then a wide receiver. And now he's going to be some kind of offense of weapon. Right. And I think ultimately when you what you do with your first three rounds of picks. Is you say what? Do you do really, well, let's go ahead and take that and make that work at the NFL level and the Niners seemed to be especially in and around the third and fourth round and Namur with taking a player and then thinking that they can mold him. They have the quite frankly, arrogance to think that they can completely transform player into doing something that is new at a level that is much higher than they had to do it in college. And so far that has not been successful. And then when ends up happening is that player, unfortunately, get stuck in a loop. They get brought in to transfer to a different position or role. They don't do that. Well, so they moved back to a different role. And then they've only been doing that for your in the NFL, they don't do that. Well, and they keep ping pong and you end up with Jimmy ward or you end up with various more or you end up with these players or you end up with Solomon Solomon Thomas these players that you just don't have a fixed position for you. Don't let them learn their craft, and then you cut them or trade them because they're a bus when in reality. You didn't have a plan for them. And even if you did have a plan. It wasn't a good one because you should have just let them do what they do well and play to their strengths. And instead you thought to yourself with the CBA that limits all this practice time. I'm gonna go ahead and fix them. Look man, I wouldn't have been able to go to sleep at night. If we didn't get CJ Beathard on this roster. All right. I wasn't going to be able to sleep until day three of the draft. Yeah. It's it's it's it's tough. It's this would be a completely different conversation. If this is a player we're talking about taking with one of their two six round picks. Right where he very likely could have been available like this is a a top one hundred pick that you are expecting to take a player here that can come in and be an impact player for your team and be somebody that you can actually rely on right now Araj on a roster that is talented vision. And in a draft where there is a glut of talent in the second and third round. I mean, you think of the players that were still available when the Niners drafted this wide receiver. You look at the Cornerbacks. That were available a position of need for the forty Niners. And okay, we know the Niners don't value cornerback position as much as they do their front seven. They put a ton of resources in their front seven. But that doesn't mean that cornerback has a position doesn't exist. And so instead of going for a cornerback or instead of. Going for safety that can challenge Jimmy ward. They instead double down on a wide receiver. I get the position the players still confuses me. Yeah. I think that's that's what you really come back to you. Right. Is again, we bang the drum hard for coverage constantly and pass catchers again effect the passing game. This is better than them drafting a damn off ball linebacker in the third round for sure. And so I think that's why though you you are comfortable with deebo Samuel right while you're okay with that. You can say like, okay. Yeah. Let's let's deebo like I was really happy. That begins. Guests been brought like I'm not in a good place right now. Let's get back to talking about good stuff. Right. Well, I think you know, you look at deebo Samuel. And even though I think we would have argued all things being equal. If you have a cornerback that you like as much as you have deebo Sam as much as you like deebo Samuel there. Like, you take the cornerback. Because that's a thing that you need more direly right now on your roster. But you know, at the end of the day..

"They got that red zone monster that's going to be you know, that's gonna catch a fade in the end zone and maybe an important game. But if you're hoping for a contestant catch wide receiver. I think you're going to be disappointed in someone like heard because he's a really big wide receiver. But he plays smaller than he is. Is if you look at all of his contests catches relations, yet eighteen of them not a lot. And he has four catches on eighteen contested catch situations. Not only is it not as he saw frequently. But when he did see that situation. It wasn't something he excelled at. So that rate just to kind of put that into some context here in this draft class, the only player that that was better than love this that I love it is Hollywood Brown. Who is the smallest dude in this draft class is maybe favorite stat of the entire fucking draft. The fact that someone who is six five to twenty five has a contested catch rate that is on par with someone who was it was considered basically pint-sized who maybe not much bigger than I maybe needed a step stool to hug the Commissioner. Like, this is the kind of player that we're talking about. And yet he has a similar contested catch rate to someone that you might think to yourself do six five. And so this is one of the things that that I'm really kinda struggling within watching his. Game. So far I mean wash all of his targets last year. So this is all that he's got to offer as a receiver right now. One of the quotes Cal Shanahan had right immediately. After this pick happen when when him and Lynch, we're talking with breast was that they felt like they got the two most physical wide receivers in the draft in these two players. And I think with deebo you one hundred percent see that there's no way that you can turn on his tape and not see the physical element of his game. I don't know where it's coming from with her. I mean, this was a guy that I just again, consistently did not see the ability to to kind of shed tackles or anything after the catch with his physical illness. There. He wasn't doing it at the catch point in winning those tough catches. He wasn't even doing it..

"Let's make this happen. All right. Let's get to the third round pick for the forty Niners because first round the rounds. One and two so far, you're happy. Right. David like, all right. Kind of according to plan a pretty solid. We probably would have wanted a corner in the second round. But we totally understand why they went with the wide receiver that was value there in both areas. And so now, we get to the third round selection. But before we get to the scouting report for the forty Niners third round selection. Let's take a brief break to hear from our sponsors. Beyond say, Arianna Guerande and Drake are talked about ad nauseam as celebrities. But there's one thing that's rarely discussed their music on switched on pop. "I'm not sure if he gets to inbounds, but he gets at least one because it's college college touchdown. That's right. It doesn't matter still touchdown. And it's pretty good. He's got a really good hands. And I think it's it's exactly what Shanahan wants to. You. Can you? Operate. Can you create space for the quarterback to get you the ball? And then when the ball is there, are you going to catch it and de Bodas, both those things very very well. And then kind of the final thing that I think that that we'd be remiss not to bring up is his ability after the catch. I think very much a big part of his game. That was a big part of how South Carolina utilize. It was a big reason why so many of his receptions came near behind the line of scrimmage a lot of jet. Sweep lot lot of screen stuff that was mixed in there. And that was because they were looking for any way to get the ball in this guy's hands. So that he could do stuff with it after the Kachin, and he was again fantastic. There. You mentioned the overall numbers. I mean on the slants alone. Yeah. Average over eighteen yards after the catch on those fourteen slant, receptions, it was just something that came up consistently. Where not only is he a guy that's going to be able to make the catch and gets. What's there? You know? He's going to turn up field. He's going to get what's available to him. But he is someone that can create. His is going to force miss tackles had what Twenty-one force missed tackles on sixty two catches last season. I think he was among the top five guys in this class as far as force missed tackles go, which is pretty when you think about because there are some players that don't approach twenty one tackles full stop on quite a bit more catches. And he's able I mean there was there was a one play where he gained three yards and made three dudes miss like he was averaging won miss tackle a yard. But yeah, I mean, it was it was it's funny because he has a lot of plays. Like that. When you're like, okay. Yeah. You gotta keep this in perspective. It's it's only a three yard gain here. Sure. But. It could have been a three yard loss, and his you know, he's able to again create when when something isn't necessarily there in turn what could be either a short gain or potentially even a bad play for your offense in turn that into a positive. And I think that's something. That's that's very important. And that I don't know that we have on the roster players who are really all that. I mean, obviously kiddle at the tight end position is. Yeah, that's his big thing. But as far as wide receivers go there's no one that. That's I think it quite that level pedestals good in that regard. But nobody has the same after the catch ability is what deebo show and there's another flag. I think that that maybe Shanahan is starting to look at it not starting to look at but maybe consider evaluating wide receivers. And that's their ability to return kicks because he has returned a couple of punts for touchdowns. And obviously, we know that Dante Pettis was someone who returned a lot of kicks in the Pac twelve touchdowns, and he obviously got up on the radar. So that might be one of the qualifiers that we may need to add to the Shanahan wide receiver Ma. When we're looking at wide receivers next year is do they do they have punt returns for touchdowns? But I mean, it makes sense to degree rate. I think it highlights running after the catch it kinda shows like some vision in ability to navigate in the open field and again create with the ball on your. So let's get to the limitations because deebo Samuel is a second round draft pick. And he was not a first rounder. It was not a consensus number one overall. And that's because the player has limitations. And I think the first thing that jumps out is that his deep passing production is not all that stellar. He had just fifteen deep targets and four deep receptions, his deep catch rate ranked in one hundred fiftieth in this draft class..

"You see the quickness, you know, in his route running ability, and they'd be the ability to separate there. But you also see that four four eight speed when he does have the ball on his hands. And he's looking to hit that extra gear and separate and create some big plays with the ball on his hand. So I think everything that you see there looks really good. And so when you look at his his short shuttle time of four point one four it was the fifth fastest in at the combine that generally bodes well because Shanahan loves play. That can separate and deebo Samuel can do that his short shuttle time in short area quickness proves that. But when you look at the comparison to someone like PR zone, you look at their physical comp and you look at their combine or testing numbers. They're both five eleven they're both around to ten. They both have about thirty one inch arms Garson Renna four four to forty deebo Renna four for eight. If you look at their ten yards splits Garson ran a one five flat deebo Renna one five six Carson had a thirty six inch vertical depot had a thirty nine. So he's a little bit more explosive. Garson ran a four dot one nine short shuttle deebo four one four so he's a little quicker in the short area. I mean, you you just go down the line at their physical calms and their carbon copies of each other with Garcia, and I think being a little faster straight line. Deebo may be a little better in short area. Yeah. I think that's probably the key especially younger, some you know, as we've talked about before could could get down the field, more and could be more of a big play threat on kind of vertical routes. I don't think that depot's quite that guy. But we'll save that for the later section for where he wants. And he's built like a running back. You look at in the mock draftable comp and it's time Gumri another famous running back to wide receiver to running back to receiver prospect. And he I mean, he is built as milestone and Finally I would say like a brick shit house. So he he's he's a big, dude. He's built like running back and he runs like to right? I think the kind of moving onto the next area. He also produced at a very high level, which is is really good. So, you know, I think when you look overall in this class, you know, he his production was up there in it's always tough with wide receiver production because you know, some of that can be dictated by the scheme that they're in. How many other talented players? They have around them. You see that at places like Ohio State? We talked about worry. They just have so many weapons offensively that no one players production is necessarily so outsized that it stands out. But then you get players like deebo Samuel where he is very clearly. Kind of the best weapon that they have it wide receiver gets a lot of targets thrown his way and was able to go and do a lot with those targets. And so, yeah, I think when you look at his grades over the course of his career, you know, one of the higher three year grades in this draft class, you know, was right in in the same range as guys like AJ Brown, Akil, Harry. I think the one area that really stands out that he was very very good at it was on slant routes. He was the highest graded receiver on slant. Routes over his three years in in college. They're only fourteen receptions on them. So it wasn't necessarily something that was a high volume route for him but three hundred fifty six yards on those routes on those receptions, two hundred and fifty three of those came after the catch and one hundred thirty six after contact. So it was just very very efficient and productive. When when he was able to get the ball in his hands quickly in make stuff happen after the catch and the cherry on top of that slammed Sunday is that twelve. Twelve of those fourteen catches went for first downs or touchdowns. So he basically produced I mean, he was a slight machine, and he performed very very well on that route overall he had eleven touchdowns for South Carolina last year and average nine point six yards after the catch. He averaged nine point six yards after the catch. And that's not just because he was catching a bunch of bubble screens and smokescreens he got he did get a lot of screens his way. Definitely. But you look at a play.

"Joel Klatt is an absolute revelation on that NFL net broadcast can Reggie Wayne. Just announce all the pigs because he was frigging amazing. And with me for the second time in as many days still filling out his office game of thrones deadpool, David Newman. Hello. How are you? David. We did not cancel the show. No, surprisingly, we did not finish a growl or of beer for those initiated. That's two whole leaders one leader a human in the course of twenty minutes. I was gonna say, no, we definitely finished. We definitely finish it. And now, we're on our our Zillah reveres. But we're here we did not draft the tackle. But you've always got that. At least there wasn't an offensive lineman. But, but you know, maybe we drafted a wide receiver that may as well play tackle. Because he can apparently play every position we'll get there in a minute. First. Let's get to the thirty six pick in the NFL draft because with that pick the forty Niners selected deebo Samuel wide receiver out of South Carolina. And was there any pig perhaps more expected than deebo Samuel for the forty Niners? Maybe only Nick Bosa to the forty Niners in in round one. Absolutely, right. I think in on preach out preview we had three players in the separator category. Isabela was probably a little too small Riley. Ridley didn't have the Atlantic profile, but deebo Samuel men. He'd ticked all the boxes and Shanahan loves players. That can separate catch the ball and run after the catch and deebo Samuel can do all those things. So for the end initiated we're going to do a scouting report on the forty Niners draft picks. We're going to start with deebo Samuel. We're going to get to the athletic profile the production of these players. We're gonna talk about their limitations where they win and they're. Impact? And so let's start with deebo athletic profile. David hit me, so he's actually compares. This is something we talked a little bit about in the pre-draft episodes, but compares quite similarly to peer Garson in in a lot of ways. So I mean, I think overall a really good athlete. Seventy six percent, thou spark score. So again, not by the super high end crazy athlete, but definitely very much in the upper half of NFL athletes at wide receiver. And I think that's something that does show up on tape..

"For some redemption, the former Tennessee volunteer running back. I will tell you my first Jalen Hurd memory is when I was watching Tennessee play. And he was there. I was I was texting my Tennessee friends. And I was like why is the inferior running back? Keep getting the ball that Kamara dudes got juice, but wide receiver at Baylor. He put together some pretty darn good tape that hurts man. That's a that's a that's a pet cat right there. Yeah. Man. Jalen Hurd was really fun. Jalen her or sorry. Sorry KT. The Niners drafted both of my favorite receivers. It gets ten though. Like, okay, we're gonna watch Jalen her wide receiver. I have this negative connotation with Baylor wide receivers. And then you watch him, and you know, the backstory being running back and you'd go. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. We'll get him. Catch with the hands over the minute. As a player to take a hit by linebacker now. Look at this guy. Yeah, man. I just that's pretty good spot. Man, have fun. San Francisco need help them out with wide receivers too. So I really liked that pig Jeff. They've got some secret audio do let's get to it. So tristen hill we saw them in the war room. We saw them on the phone with trista hill when they made the pick. And of course on Dallas Cowboys dot com. Five three the fan. We always bring that right to you. Here is Tristan hill finding out. He's a Dallas cowboy. Tristen HALE will McClay with the Dallas Cowboys got somebody who wants to talk to you. Hey, man, how you doing? Hey, man, you got a hell of a job in that room. With highly impressed. Cokes. "Ben Baylor wide receiver. Jalen Hurd is an official visit other burnin Jalen her. Yeah. There you go. Now more genuine right now. Let's see how how do you get this one Notre Dame defensive tackle? Jerry Tillery is an official. Visit. Aren't even know what to do with my lips. Like, how do I I have no idea how I made this sound in the first place, and I've been trying to replicate it along with the brand starving for days, and she's not possible. Okay. Get really high for this one. Because this is a guy that we both talked about both love red four three at the combine official visit Georgia wide receiver Michael Hartmann. What you give to you? Like, you really going to bring it. You're the one who's got it all these there's like five like you're like just salloway totally off the charts Nevada cast offer you so what do you think of these official visits? I wrote a piece recently, I'm bleeding renascent dot com. Finding like a complementary piece for Jordan Howard, which is like a short term view things, but finding the areas where like we have holes in the in the backfield, which I found to be breaking tackles in space being allusive. And also the the second one being pass catching receiving ability. Durell Henderson who's an official. Visit was one of those guys for me the top guys. Whereas like the Olympics go any other guys on it list. Justice hill is a guy that we mocked the eagles in our last seven around market. Yes. Eighty seven or eighty eight Kistin Sollac, and he was a day three guy that we light. So they're bringing in a lot of running backs. They're also bringing these big wide receiver Jalen Hurd. And then you have Tillery matched with Christian Wilkins was another. Visit like they're really hitting these positions of need pretty hard. Yeah. Now, I find that big slot vibe, very interesting. So it's been jail. Unheard AJ Brown for shore. Did they have to kill Harry or now? Yeah. Nikiel Harry was one right and carry and then I've seen like they've had miekel Hartman in Paris Campbell as well. So obviously some clear like speedy gadget types, which I've long held the belief. I don't know if it's strong enough to be a belief like just like an opinion. But I very much felt like Peterson wants a gadget player the way he had in Kansas City with two with Terry Hill. And they've they've used galore gadgetry sort of ways, but it's never been super productive for them. And I think they really would like that gadget. Type that Peres Campbell type. I don't think they wanna spend an early pick on it. But I do think it is a mold. They wanna fill Dextra cluster was another guy that they brought in local from where I'm from from Largo high school player that kicked out of the kick seminal out of the playoffs. I remember him. It was the gadget player for themselves. Like like that mold..

"Drills this week. He's dealing with a groin injury Jacobs is the number one running back in the draft. And it projected first round pick and Baylor wide receiver. Jalen Hurd will not participate in drills due to a minor knee scope, so that is the latest and greatest as we go into combine we take a look about her out of Baylor right there. So we'll come back. Now, we have Jim Nagy along with Ryan and hawk and here is is finish up. The highlight. Jim your NFL scowl for eighteen years, you one titled home groom with Bela check with Pete Carroll talk to me, some about their mind processes as we'd go through the draft. How were they similar? How were they different? I think that thing that connected all those guys they're invested in the process, right? There's some coaches that just kind of want to. Sit back and let the personnel guys do their thing. Let the scouts do their thing. But those guys were all invested. So take you back to the first year. Pete was in Seattle two thousand ten I wasn't even with the Seahawks at the time and the senior bowl used to have a really spread out practice form where there was time in between to go back to the hotel. And there was a Xhosa station set up with all the tape. And I go down there to watch tape between practice and who's their peak carols down there watching tape between practices, which told me something. And then when I in my time in New England, Bill Meljak always sat aside a day during the year to watch college tape, which not a lot of not a lot of pro coaches. Do they'll get through the season and get through the coaching, and then kinda jump into the college draft and Bill just kept it all the way through the season one day one day a week, and it just shows their investment that's the same. Yeah. No doubt to NFL. Does these guys over on the N word? Without the combine invite. I honestly, I couldn't believe when they told me earlier today, tell me some of your stories about going through this whole friend, the the cool thing for me was because I wasn't a combine invite. I wasn't invited to any games. Like the senior bowl there on a lot of ages who were willing to pay for me to train. So what I did was I got the key to LSU's indoor facility, and I will go there at night after classes because I knew I wasn't getting drafted. I was getting late. So I needed my degree. So I stayed in school. I would go after school. I would train myself. I would do to twenty five as many times as I can racket do it again. I would go run to forty. I even had a girlfriend at the time who will come time me. And if I had heard time that my pro day, I would ran forward to I think she was trying to make me feel good. But I- trade myself. I went to pro day. I did. Well, and you know, the rest is history. Yeah. I mean same thing grind it from the bottom. I was a guy with the pro day. And this is why advocate for calamari. He shouldn't even take a measurement of. On my pro day. I took clay from the craft store molded to my hills to add an extra two inches and put weights in my pocket. So I can get over one eight and be listed at five eight..

"Always a chance. But I I would say probably I would I would say Alabama's a prohibitive favorite. Now. A lot depends on the health of the quarterback. You know, the quarterback got that game yesterday and they throw Jalen Hurd off the bench, and he didn't seem to lose much. No, he's I mean, he's a very different quarterback than than to our. Because he's I mean, he's a he's a Slinger. I mean, he throws the ball. And Jalen hurts is is mostly is is as much a runner as passer. So there are very different offensive team. When one quarterback sitting there than the other. But. I would assuming they'll have to back for the for the championship for the playoff game. I can't see Alabama losing Oklahoma. Not that the Oklahoma defense has just too many holes in it. I number two Clemson against number three Notre Dame. Ray who do you like in that game? And let's assume your wife is not listening at this moment. So you don't have to say Notre Dame just to that. You're allowed to go home. I I would like Clemson in that game. I like Notre Dame to me has been very much surprise. I saw them early this year. I saw them beaten Michigan. I thought they're a good team. I didn't see them as a twelve and a team. I really didn't see them as a final four team. They're they are better than I thought they were going to be and by the end of the year. They're playing good. You know, what really impressed me was game played against Syracuse. Syracuse is pretty good and they just pound at Syracuse. So I think I think Notre Dame is is a worthy final four team. But I think Clemson is is is better. So I probably at this point, I'm leaning towards the numbers one. And number two. I think it's going to be I I would say Alabama will beat Oklahoma in a in a high scoring kinda game. And I think Clemson Honey clemson's too strong. I think for the for.

Marty Smith's Analysis: Does Alabama's Crimson Tide have any real competition?

"Alabama crimson tide mardi like, ooh. Yeah. Nobody's honest to God. We've been talking about this around here their second team led by Jalen hurts is that is that the best competition that they would have if they played in the national championship game against their second team with Jalen Hurd. No, no Clinton's good, man. Not only is Clinton good. They're really starting to figure it out. Trevor Lawrence is he's a bona fide scholar now at quarterback their defenses elite. They look very complete to me now and only in the last couple of weeks have they look back complete. Notre Dame looked very good. The other night. I was here Yankee Stadium. But at this point, I still believe it's Alabama everybody else from a lot of different perspectives. Their death is unbelievable. To he's going to run away with the Heisman Trophy and their physicality. So I think that I think that Alabama. If they don't show up unprepared, which I don't expect and they don't suffer some sort of catastrophic injury. I think I think they're going to win it in convincingly. But Clinton is good guys.
