"jackie g" Discussed on Asian America: The Ken Fong Podcast
"Thought okay. Maybe that's why. I said at the outset of this interview. I thought i knew where you were coming from. But then as you've dropped the other tracks like oh like there's a whole different sound to what i've been hearing and it has it sound necessarily like you're trying to be a black female rapper. I don't yeah. I just in everything that you're saying. I think the most important thing to acknowledge in asserting our own identities agent america. That means is not trying to imitate or synthesize. Sent me a chance like it's it's like doing the work to understand. Where do we come from. An what am i trying to like. What am i putting out there. There's especially in hip hop back to your conversation with jin if somebody is intentionally imitating or like trying hard to exude that or portray that when it comes from a place of just like. You're actually trying to do that. That is a no no louis. Keep it real. Let's not try to be blacklist. Try to be wireless just try to be real and be ourselves and that is always the goal to keep it one hundred or in the south of keeping trip so so that i think is the most important back to what you were saying when i was doing langley. That's where i was in that head space in that time so it makes sense and not just what i felt like was my impression of myself if that makes sense and so as i keep putting on music or music my music journey they're almost snapshots in time of how i communicate with what i'm feeling at the time so i hope at least my intention. I'm very intentional about like trying to maintain my voice and my own perspective with my inspirations. Were what have you but i tried very hard not to fluff up that stuff. Which is what i think some not all people do which is why it's kind of larry and also there's just like problematic levels there's a level of almost like genuineness and relationship and appreciation whereas there's another level of appropriation intimidation monks and statement. So i feel like that's what defines and that's what we should always in for asian americans whether it be in the music space or carving out your own space and i think even be for people who aren't artists or don't see themselves as artists but they're also evolving because i think that's growth that's being alive and being human it's having people around us and also in your case aznar's fans who are willing to go along with you for the right cause. I talked to musicians. Who say oh. Yeah you know when my x number of albums when that finally hit a sold a lot of those records my neck sphere was as i involve as a musician are those fans who came on board for that hit album. Are they going to still be with me when the next album drops and it doesn't sound anything like that i m right and i think you know it's like you're gonna have some people that stay with you and some people go now. I tasked snia. And that's just part of the journey. I guess but i think your point is well taken which is we have to be still true to ourself. So if i if. I don't relate to how i sounded to albums ago or two songs ago. I embraced what. I sounded like embraced what i was trying to do with this. But yes but that's that's what i was at the time now. I'm not that person anymore. So you know. I think some of these old music acts that people don't want to hear their latest song. They just want to hear the old hits. Okay pays the bills. But it's like. I would think as a musician that at some level has got to be incredibly frustrating yes. I wrote this incredible song last month and nobody wants to hear it. It doesn't sound anything. Like i said at ten fifteen twenty years ago. But it's who. I am now anyone. That's the point of music. I think that distrust is there. Because i mean the music industry. Now there's like twenty thousand people working on song. But i mean i'm just starting out so what you see is what you get like. The song is really just coming from media. It's all directly from me to you. Yeah we need to wrap this up. Jackie fe. I think you've intrigued a bunch of our listeners. How they find out about you. Follow me i got. Jackie g. o. T. j. c. k. I. e. on instagram for all the latest and greatest and Sign up following on spotify. Jackie faye from young to all of that release. Stay up today. I'm really trying to put monthly content. "It's different than like getting a show. Cancel because you still are an actor with reps and have momentum and things going on but with reality like when. I got eliminated from american idol. They put a little piece of paper to your door. You're not allowed to talk to anybody. Seeing him unusual. Go home and pretend it never happened and then they own you for a year. You're not allowed to do live gigs. Not even allowed to so much as a youtube video. They've changed all those rules now. Because i think they realize it's better for the show now with power social media that the kids could be promoting themselves and the show. But when i was on into delete your twitter you had to delete my space Everything i had songs on itunes. I had to like get an attorney to call itunes to pull everything down. I mean they wanted everyone to start many even playing even though that was false and so much so that they wouldn't let me play my guitar. There were like we're evening the playing field. That was not even play guitar and they wouldn't they wouldn't yes The show's very different. Now than it was. When i was on it all worked out for the best and listen. I've had a bunch of friends. Go on that show and almost win or being the top couple and that contract talks you. Just don't want that contract true alternately. What happened with me. Not winning. And getting to where i got. They told me. I wasn't allowed to tour and i was like you got it and then instantly went on tour and secret tour like i didn't have to promote it because college. The colleges were promoting it themselves. And so i didn't have to. I'd just went and did it. So i broke the rules in that way. They assume now. Seventy five years later But yeah. I think i've always i've always tried. Just take whatever opportunities and grind them into whatever little things i could. Jackie listen gone over my time with you so i want to be respectful of the rest of your day but i literally could talk to you forever. You're so funny and so wonderful. Congratulations on glow. "I believe female but that part. I'm not sure about. I think they wanted like a female comic book. Netflix talent so they can keep it in the family and sort of have the people stay in the platform in hop from show to show. And i took a meeting with them. And the whole thing was like Actor as well no. I was just a radio host before all this all right. Well i'm your manager. Whatever it is is. We'll talk about louis but there's this thing and i think i i've been doing this so long that i get when when something really goes well in a meeting really goes well. I tap it like when i leave on my cool. It's over that never happened. Never going to think about it again because in the beginning part of my career. I can't tell you how many times i went on in addition in the room. Just chill thinking about this in the room. They were like hey jagged. Don't don't don't cut your hair like giving you these little. And then as i was leaving. Maybe like jackie and i turn around and come back in producers. Wanna see one more thing you come back in. And you're like the other girls in the waiting room or like. Oh shoot the girl kopech like you just know it's yours and then it's not and it's just and that happened ninety nine times out of andre. So i'm in this meeting and like i'm telling this ridiculous story about how the paparazzi caught me leaving craig's with six bags of leftovers looking like a frigging by bangs. Were greasy. i look at absolutely it's normal. People can still go to restaurants and it was the first time i ever got papa razzi so part of it was like oh my god i made it in the other part was like i look like a garbage fire and am i. Why do i have. So many is so embarrassing. So i pull up the getty images in the meeting of me taking out all these leftovers. One of netflix's exact on her chair like you don't leftovers from craig. What is wrong with illiberal streaming. The vibe is amazing. And i'm like this is everything. This is my dream and then my brain instantly goes to like calm down. This isn't yours yet even if it is yours it's not yours. Everything could go up. It's kind of. I dunno not to get to a psychological kinda sad because you can't let yourself exists in that joy place for too long because it so much further to fall when you find out it actually isn't yours so you have to bring yourself back down to this middle ground of like okay. Read it out. I did my best. That was a fun experience. Anything can happen. And then i left. And as i was leaving sorta calming myself. Down ahead of the magical. Elves comes out of the net looks building. And he's like yeah. We're gonna make it with you. Netflix wants to do we want to do it. It's gonna be you and it was like why starting to cry like a little plus do it is a long time coming. I waited. I waited for an executive to follow me out of a building. Tell me it was me for the better part of twenty five years so it's pretty cool. That's awesome. I wanna know what i've been craig's wanna know what you've brought was the chicken like what did you bring. Yeah okay so what happened. Was i went for like a glow season. Two or three celebratory dinner with my agent and got getting to be such a hollywood dushi story so suddenly it was my agent at this very fancy restaurant. But what's funny is. I'm such a low ranch. I don't know a craig's was not a clue with due respect to craig's which is now truly one of my favorite restaurants is not a fancy name. Sounds a jewish guy from new york when craig rosenthal. We'll go to greg's like i don't know what that even is. Okay so we go to craig's. I need them there on my way in. I notice all the paparazzi there. They obviously don't care about my homes. Look looking twelve year old boy ass. So i'm going in like okay. What is this place. jalen a-rod or at one table marut. All of maroon five is at another table. And i'm like what where am i is over the food Gets some fish i got. I think the chicken power more. It's ridiculously good. And i think the waiter just has to at that point at the end of the meal. Come over and saying like you guys want to take anything home. My agent says no so fast. Like my hair will know where i was like. Oh you're not taking. You're not taking your allotted boat. I'll take both of these like this is no joke. Then we got dessert. I also talk. And then i was leaving with the. I literally think the waiter like go in the back of me like do we have to go boxes. Like is that something we offer here. And then i leave with three craig's bags sweaty bangs and a komo shirt and proper and jackie. Jackie on my hair. Obviously talking about a different. Jackie because data and i turn around and they are spur lashing flashing flashing like crazy. And i'm holding all the leftovers bag so my mouth in the pictures is like oh god making razi email shapes. I didn't learn till after that once. They got they got you see you just stand there and smile but yeah. That was what we took them. Credit i believe the to lobby on the chicken parmigiana cheesecake freedom back. What got you this reality show so it worked out. Yes that's great. And so to answer your question before. I'm the host and i'm a judge. One of three judges got it. What's the one thing someone has taken from leftovers and turn into something else that has stuck with you that you're just like holy. That was amazing. I can't believe this happened. Was one woman who had some sort of italian was john. I don't know why i remember this. She had some sort of italian veal dish. Like it was maybe veal parmesan sauce. It was covered have pasta on the side and she turned it into two types of curry took veal. She covered in all sorts of indian spices. She added chickpeas turned it into a curry so she made like a plated. Sort of soupy curry like we're used to and then also put some of it inside a fried corre. And she also made the cora shell the pastry that have a core a comes in. She made that and then took this veal. Let's call it. You'll parmesan and turned it into two different indian curries and it was. There was no universe. This was ever italian food and it was delicious horse. She made the little rice. I mean it was nuts what these people do on this show is is crazy. Vests leftovers ever is right now on netflix. Also on net flicks show called glow. Which of course you play melrose..

"Stars from glow on the show shell so has a new cooking show. Which means that. She's basically got the coolest job. Ever welcome on the wells cast. Jackie tone how are you hi. Everybody mostly i wells. I'm good man. I have the coolest job ever. And i dreamed of it forever and i waited a good long time and i. I saw that you an armchair expert recently. So i wanna say hey. Thanks for slumming it down here with the kind of the earplug cast preach. Nah first of all such your the end such different audiences. And i think that's why i'm so. I love doing this. And i do like all my friends who are complex in their fund. Super dining weird podcasts. We've been friends forever. And you know i like i like with everybody and i just want everybody to watch best leftovers in because shit is fun. I don't if anyone told you. But i went on worst cooks in america celebrity edition which i think. The celebrity edition part was A loose definition but jackie. I need you to know going into this interview. You boy one that okay. So i don't know if you ask people here's the question. Glenn rooting are so. Here's the problem. Does that mean you're the worst cook or the bit like you one as the actual worst or you're the best person mayor of the people who are just terrible so everyone was bad to begin with and i made the biggest strides and got amazing because it's confusing when it's called worst cook. Then you're like all right. Well the person that just put dog shit on a plane. He's a winner. Because that's definitely the worst the first episode. I may try to make pasta. And it was so terrible that stuck to the plate and the host of the show took it and put it upside down over her head and an didn't fall on her head. and then. At the end of coca three-course meal in a restaurant and it'd be johnny bananas from the challenge. Anyways listen i just want you to know that like i get it. I know the term celebrity was loose on you. I think whoever johnny bananas probably been happier to be there than you. So i say that all the time when people like when i'm referenced as a celebrity at her unlike like i feel like the jokes on the person who said if every time yeah i feel that. Tell me about best leftovers. Ever because i feel like this is a perfect time for a show like this not to anything is perfect for times but this one especially because we're all stuck. I feel like this is. The show has kind of teaches you how to like. Make the best of what she got in the house. You couldn't i mean i literally don't even need to expound because you've just you've just explained it perfectly but that is exactly what it is and even even for me i host this show and i judge it and i've taken so many tips that i learned on the show ops. Open my fridge and not have an idea what to make. And i'll look at peanut butter. Be you know what i feel like. I learned how to make a fun. Asian peanut sauce with that. I've net look peanut butter before. I mean i i. It's not so all. I ever really ate in the past like come hungry for dinner and i need something. I will have bold visions of Scream like i'm not above it but it really has elevated so i'll clean the show. It's just like it sounds. We have different levels of chefs. Come on three per episode and compete for the ten thousand dollar casserole. Guys just listening. But i'm winking because it is cash in a casserole dish in ron one. They have fridges behind them. Where we say you guys You had dateline date night last night. So you have. In the fridge some filet mignon and chocolate covered strawberries and a salad right. And you need to take those ingredients and turn them into a flavor bomb brunch and just completely unrecognisable and then of course the person that uses the most leftovers they don't necessarily win but we that counts and then around to my bridge comes out and playhouse vibes. Where like my bridges. A character on the show and sometimes she shine. We've like chance to get her. Get her hus- by fridge fridge. Finally her little shi'as comes out. I opened fridge and in there are takeout leftovers that are you know quote unquote mine. And they'll be like three different chinese dishes. Three different italian dishes each episode of different ethnicity of food and in round two. The coach need to take whatever chinese food. They were randomly given and turn it into high end cuisine of a totally different ethnicities. You can't take chinese. Keep it that way and we had people turning italian food into curry and diner. Food into talion was. It's nuts what these people did or they all well known chefs so it was a season one of a show. So we're pretty confident that next season what people do is going to be even crazier in the chefs will be even crazier but we got our cast are cooks. They were incredible. I don't think any of them are like world. Renown body is. It's not the iron chef leftovers but it is all these people can cook like the the bit. Isn't that like they're making gross. Food then is that they are killing it bear. What's up dude. Curious teeny tiny lights bear. That's exactly how long your like should be killing the game. Well even supports you. So what is your role on the shell. Because i assume not to assume. But i assume you're julia child's thank you for seeing my true heart so early in his interview. I burned toast. Yes i'm not trying to sit here and pretend when these guys are making this incredible food that i know what i'm talking about but my mouth works so i can still tell you what it tastes like and it's sort of like the layman's. I'd come in with that lehman engel's we've rosemary schrager. Who is renowned world renowned chef cookbook. Author emmy this guy david so incredible restaurant tour culinary influence or. He cooks well but he doesn't fancy himself like a chef and so those guys are really giving the critiques. As far as you know it can be brighter. It could be used a lot of food. Words were i'm just shoving my face and being like this is very good. Or why is this. The consistency of burgers high end. High end critiques. You're like every man your the blue-collar your the bruce springsteen of this show don't please with the high harmful. I'm the. I'm the fall river. "My name is rita. K i am ellen bernstein brodsky is your grandmother and is a podcast about the relationship between grandmothers and grandchildren as my mother would have said who wouldn't wanted a jewish grab. Sometimes she accidentally livestreams. Who's going to tell her up. Just hearing about this. Listen to call your grandmother. Are they all your heart. Radio app apple podcasts. Or wherever you get your podcast. Hello everybody that's the scientist. From simpson's i could be wrong though i don't know there's my impersonation for the day all right. You guys have been great. We'll see you next week. How's everyone doing feeling good. Well if not. I got some for you today. I've done a lot of episodes. i haven't gone counted. How many episodes we've done the wells cast but it's got to be over one hundred and then in my radio career i've done. Thousands of interviews of interviewed everybody from actors musicians to comics two chefs to authors to mediums. And everyone in between and the trick to a good interview really is figuring out a way that makes the listener. Feel like they're a part of the conversation and you can do that in a couple ways. I mean one way you can literally talk to the listener. Which is what a radio. Dj does between songs every break. You can have musician. Come on and play something. That is so touching that the listener feels moved by the piece. You can interview someone. And they can tell such an intimate story about themselves that everyone can relate and you also can do it by energy and i say that because everyone this is going back to my radio days but everyone is having day when they're listening to the radio especially when i had my morning show. It was a hard show to do because everyone felt like crap because it seven in the morning. You're driving some terrible nine to five that you don't wanna do you gotta deal with their crap boss and karen from accounting and you're trying to get people to feel good before they have to feel bad and so you've gotta come with solid energy and you never know what you're gonna get when you do interviews for morning shows but you try to book things that will be uplifting and positive and fun and funny and energetic and stuff i guess all that to be said. I wish i had this person on my show back when i did a morning show because if you are feeling like crap and hung over and drowsy and just not wanting to go into work and then you heard this interview. I think your day would turn around early due. At least that's how i felt going out of the interview was like phil so much better. Her energy was bonkers. It was so positive and funny and fun and lighthearted and inclusive. If you're a good interviewer you're also listening right. You know you're part of the audience. And so i just hope that you guys out there feel the same way that i i absolutely loved this inner right now. She is a show on net netflix. Which is a cooking show called best leftovers ever which basically gets a bunch of amazing cooks in and give them leftovers in the refrigerator and they say now you have to go make something special and it's an awesome show and it's perfect for right now because we are all stuck at home. Glenn you don't have instagram in your we are. There's a sweet story. I'm not like one of those like crazy narcissistic dog owners at just pedals. Their dog for maybe i am. I don't know but i went on a reality show. They took your phone away from you. And i was freaking out about my. I've been there with the no phone. We're talking yeah it's really one hundred percent madams cooter mall because sometimes if you're making an arrow no matter how delicious it is that's looking like a pile of right now to your point about food. Waste the bulk of my break has been because we have the new house that we can't sleep because we didn't get the permit we failed that four. We're trying to spend time there. And then kristen ordered way too much food so we have all this food at the old house and then we bring it all the way over to the new house and then people come over and then the eat it and then we bring it back to the old house for when we and then we bring it over to eric mali's housing case. "Thousand eight thirteen years. That's correct. oh my also. Jackie was on american idol. Spoiler alert pigs. If you're if you're going through the back catalogue of american idol top thirty six six eight. I wish i had brought this up talking about this. Just repetitive spin cycle. You were in where you're so talented yet. The people around you are going up to the stratus. So what a literal example of that of being on american idol and then like the people. You became buddies with that you were drawn to in that experience. Then make it to the top. I remember paula. Abdul did like leno and they asked her who her favourite contestants were that season and she was like. I can't say. I love that checking tone and i was like what a win. This happening. one hundred percent return the yacht. I went into idle the next day. I went home. Oh it's wild. How they how they do that show but anyway so go into this room. What it turned out had happened. You wanna talk about wild ass career things. One hundred and fifty million things in my career had to happen exactly as they did for this to happen as it did. So a list of netflix talent. Funny women they wanted a woman and netflix and funny this list passes tobie gorman desk and i'm nowhere near the top and he looks through it and he goes. Let's see jackie tone. I and he's telling the story in the meeting. I did not know this. And he goes. And i brought you in because i remember when we were on idol. We were like what do we do with this girl off. This is a singing competition and she should ever like. It was very kind and he was like and she should ever own show like people need to hear this wise assery coming out of this kid and like but we obviously couldn't capitalize on that. You're on a singing competition. And so he's telling this story and he's like and i've always wondered what happened with her and then she was on glow and i was like someone finally gave jagged tone a chance and then your name came across my desk and i was like she is the host of this show z. That's where again back to your aging can-do that correct it's like you're a good person onset your friendly you get along with people you show your real personality. Not no in. Someone falls in love with you later. That person's the president of some. It's crazy you can't script it twelve years later by the time i met him in. The premise of the show is what people. There's a bunch of leftovers in the fridge and they've got prepare something outstanding absolutely right so in round one. The three chefs have fridges behind them. And in those fridges they have all. They all have the same leftovers so every episode is different so one episode. It's like last night was date night. So you've got chocolate covered. Strawberries got whatever sexy foods in their place. And we need you to turn that into flavor bomb brunch right so you need to turn it into or like you need to turn that into a wild desert so one of the ones that was my favorite is like so you haven't been feeling well for the last week so the leftovers in your fridge. Are ma ball soup. Rice couple pieces of dry toast. The bratt diet couple bananas hundred percent..

So you're so supportive and you want him to receive praise that i assumed you guys you know there's no bad blood it just like you know you realize at a certain point like someone isn't your person and like you move on and i still think they're super crazy talented and now. I think it's easier for me to because we're all doing wellish that's not like me on the sidelines. Like it used to be being. What a lovely opportunity that. A member of the pod also has a show to promote exactly which gives rise to an in-person realtime interview boy off the year with a real person interview at a member of the pod. You know there was a caravan. Was No motorhomes. So you hung out together Peter Gethin. Told me I. He had been the driven the pit laid an danny came into Omega. I went to Nina told Nina that been an accident. But I, don't know the situation outcome back immediately went to risk control. and. At that time I was you know could access to more city. On bike to Nina by which came she must have left Chapman must've taken somewhere because I then ran to the medical center which was pathetic in those days the Marshall I said you know you can't gossip Loosen Jackie Stewart any let me and And you'll can was lying there. Was giving your Balaj rates when Nina was there. Lotus withdrew both of their cars from the event after confirmation of Your Death Jackie. What made you get back in your car can tell. I went back. You know to get Helen. And Helen had gone with Nina to the hospital and Must have been at least forty five minutes or no after the accident because that would repeal the barrier. And suddenly Ken came up to me Jackie back in the car, you know I've. It was a different time. You understand, I mean, we all had seen this up close and personal allot. "Jackie crews on the cast right now I. Don't know if anyone could of told you the idea for this show. It's basically an origin story. Show like I like to find out how successful people became successful where you came from and how you got here. You are on arguably emmys every year. Arguably one of the biggest shows in the past ten years in Orange is the new black, but I imagine it wasn't an overnight thing, so if you have just a couple of minutes kind of tell us. US where you came from and how you got to blow job seminars and like my whole life, a couple of minutes all right literally I dreamed of this and I was I lived in the Dominican Republic, that's where I'm from, and you know my mom. I was like mom I think I wanted to sing and act and I was like six or seven when I was determined to do this and she's like well. Let's see what it takes you know. She's from Queens and then she's like. You got potential kid, and like she put me in classes in like after that, she's like Jackie were moving to Hollywood, so it was like fifteen years old from the Dominican Republic moved to Hollywood soft things. A little girl should never seen like I was like these these kids were already adults you know. even if you were on TV or not, just the kids in alleges feel are very grown and I was very young and I feel like. Catching Up, you know rebelling little bit against my mom who change her whole life for me. She's a doctor in the DR and became no one so I could live my dream of you know being an artist and I rebelled against her, and I moved out of my house when I was sixteen and I got into a terrible car accident. You know. And brain surgery like not supposed to be here right now. I found myself again, because like God took away everything that I've was supposedly beautiful about me. which was my long hair? You know my face was crooked. My eyes. Were you know I couldn't see right I had to smile sideways. You know a lot of health issues and I had to learn how to walk again and I didn't WanNa. Live because in Hollywood all I saw on TV were like beautiful people and definitely people that didn't look like he saw already. It was impossible mission. I wanted. Wanted to give up. The my mom is like Jackie. You're not supposed to be here right now. Literally I had a pre say. Goodbye with you. You're not supposed to be full like this, so you're going to have to work harder than you worked before. And then you know what I met. This little girl Meli in the hospital. She was ten years old in a wheelchair and I guess. The doctors spoke to her because they were like this little girl is coming in. She doesn't WanNa live anymore. Do you think you could give her the strength? To live again and talk with her, and she did and all she said me was. You're so pretty. You had brain surgery to and I'm like. Yeah, and I started bawling and I'm like. This little girl is looking up to me. Wants to walk like me wants to be like me and I'm here wanting to die because I don't have hair or like. My face is crooked can walk you know. So literally, this little girl just changed my life, and I went back to Dominica Republic got going. You know worked out and came back to you. Know La with my hospital mullet, because that let anyone touch rare, and I took headshots and I just looked different. I wasn't the same Jackie and getting representations was very hard for me. 'cause I'm Dominican and they're like. She speaks Spanish, but she doesn't look Mexican so I. Don't know where to place her this. This is very complicated. Trying to get you know representation, but I went to this person and I didn't stop until you said yes, and then I got my first role at two thousand and six on the shield, but nothing came after that and I just focused on my music, because music was always there. I love and I gave up acting actually six years before auditioned for Orange is the new black, and you know God place me. New York through. And I miss acting, and I said let me try in New York. Maybe it's a little different, and it definitely was and orange changed my life. It was like two lines that became. My lifelong dream. You're born the Dr. did you move to Queens and things, but I was raised in the Dr. so when did you go down to the DR Until I was fifteen, and your mom is Dr there. which that's just impressive in its own right. And then she picks up and moves all the way to Los Angeles so you can pursue this kinda crazy dream. was she able to pursue medicine while she came to California I'll be on its. She did she she. She took not try. She took all the US. Emily exams passed all of them. She doesn't really like me to talk about. About it, but they didn't want to accept her degree from the Dominican Republic to give her a residency, so she was heartbroken, but she still is in medicine right now she's. She's still working in the medical field, but she's she never you know. Had that dream of you know having an office because I remember the Dominican, republic by MOM works at a little clinic in at Gaba, which is like the little village and everyone loved my mother. At like I. Just remember your mom. She saved my little daughter like it was beautiful to see. People love like in a little town. Love your your mom and and. She was my hero, and not just her like I was raised by five women, which are my mom's sisters. Two of them are doctors, and that was those are the two that raised me and then everyone else was just put a little something of them inside of me so I just feel like I can handle a lot of women, so orange is the new black was perfect for me, because every every woman has a different attitude and it was just easy for me to like flow to that show because of. Of My childhood, so you guys pick up. You Fly to Los Angeles Your sixteen years old. I, assume probably auditioning and stuff, and then were you driving? GET INTO A car. What happened now? So I was yeah. I was I moved out of my house with this girl who had everything Honda civic okay. She had an apartment at bar. M apartment. It was embarrassing but I. Don't know what it's called. It was like the open apartments back in the day, but I don't know what it's called now green. And all these little fancy.

You know what's Great. Whatever every time we see each other like it. There's something going on and like like I remember last time I saw her and I was like mad at this girl and I was like you believe. She asked if I was wearing a wig in front of people like she's like, Oh my God. That's so ruth on my right. I just love. Award Season I. Get to see my friends and. Now, it's all over because of Covid, so it's like I never get to see my girl I know I'm bummed to because I always did the red carpet stuff for e gave me reason to be there, because before I was just like the designated purse holder for Sarah, which is a little escalating, but then I had a job, and now we don't get to go, and so I'm bummed so hopefully. Jackie agreed and began playing for the dodgers international team. The Montreal royals. The. Royals were a minor league, but a big step forward in his goal to plan the major leagues. Jackie traveled with the team and struggled at first, but began to improve, and eventually became the MVP or most valuable player in his league. On April Eighteenth Nineteen, forty six. It was a momentous day when the royals play against the Jersey City giants, making it the first time players of different skin color in a minor league competed against each other. In nineteen forty seven Jackie Robinson was finally invited to play for the Brooklyn dodgers in the major leagues. He played first baseman to a crowd of more than twenty six thousand spectators, which included spectators who are black and white. At first Jackie's own team was unsure whether they were ready to play with him. They had come from families who believed in segregation, so was new for them to welcome become teammates and friends with someone who is black, but over time they became close, eventually supported Jackie. During one game, the other team was harassing. Jackie Teammate pee. Wee Reese saw was happening. It put his arm around Jackie to comfort him. Jacky finished the season with the dodgers with one hundred and fifty one games. Hundred, Ninety, seven, his Jersey number forty two was retired, which means no one was able to use the same number because it would be reserved for Jackie. Jackie one said a life is not important except in the impact it has on others lives think about what that means for a moment. What does it mean to have an impact or make a difference in the lives of others for good? How can you make a difference in the lives of others for good? He also said life is not a spectator sport. If you're going to spend your life in the grandstand, just watching what goes on in my opinion, you're wasting your life. A spectator means just watching others. It's fun to watch others, but Jackie Sang. It's even better to get out and play yourself. Think of something he liked to watch. Have you ever considered doing it yourself?.

"History is now available on spotify and a big. Thank you to those who have left reviews and ratings a shout out to Paul and his dad. Thanks for leaving such a kind review. Close Your eyes and imagine you're in a baseball stadium stepping up to bat. Dodger stadium is packed full of cheering fans some are cheering you on, but others are calling you horrible names from the stands you take a deep breath, and try to nor them you hold up your bat and look at the Pitcher who is preparing to throw the ball? He pulls back then throws the ball and it comes flying towards you at full speed. You Swing your bat and hit the ball with a crack. It flies over the field as you sprint from first base, the non to second third and home. It's a home. Run your teammates. Congratulate you, but some of the stands are still calling. You mean names. This is what happened to Jackie Robinson the famous baseball player, but who was Jackie, Robinson. And how did he end up playing for the dodgers? And why was the crowd calling him horrible names? Jackie. Roosevelt Robinson was born January thirty first nineteen, nineteen in Cairo Georgia. His father left the family when he was little leaving his mother molly to raise him and has four other siblings. Soon after this, they moved to Pasadena California. And California Jackie and his family lived in the neighborhood where they were treated differently. They'd come from Georgia. Where most of the other families were African American, but in California families in their new neighborhood. We're not and we're white. This was a time when racial discrimination was common. Racial Discrimination is when a group of people are treated differently because of their race. For example, they aren't able to have the same jobs or their segregated, which means they have to go to different schools or use different bathrooms restaurants. Jackie loves sports, BUT BECAUSE HE wasn't black, he was unable to play in the same league as the other kids. But this didn't keep Jackie from playing his favorite sports anyway. Two of his favorites were basketball and baseball. He spent a lot of time practicing and became better and better. In High School Jackie's older brothers, frank and Mac saw how good he was and urged him to try out for the school teams. At his high school, fortunately, there was no segregation and Jackie was able to play alongside his white classmates. There Jackie ended up playing football baseball basketball and track, and did very well and all of them. On the baseball team he was the catcher and in football. He was the quarterback. For, the basketball team, he was a guard. And, track and field has best skill was the broad jump. Oh and he also played tennis as you can tell, Jackie loved.

Two women were sat in the opposite end of this massive table. But how do we show Beth Jordache as a young woman questioning sexuality without actually ever saying it could should be reading all just yet? Because you'd be reading a copy of the Pink News. Which in those days was a newspaper so yeah advise them on there. And then what's it? She takes a car. I remember I think but also I then said to them right because this is the way prior to absolute dating stuff's like she'll need to go out and go to a gay club guys must be your heart and I think everyone can see you. Walk down the street from a Mile Away. I go and Lesbian Mesler. Absolute fear in a way but the you know the exciting days not for the first time I said summers. That can I just point that out? obviously we homophobia thing is just Brooke sizing up everything. Someone's GonNa get buried reef. Jackie had any advice to import to any current Jackie's who sold sold from the Internet. I think the maybe because of the incident because there's so much identity out there 'cause I imagine why aren't fail if there was when I was saying is that you've got to be able to understand the old because sometimes the kitchen inquire amick language. All the railing. Germantown other people don't know something that they've just lend some and I think it's good that kids really now but like this sort of cancel culture and stuff asked me Shit missile for saying it's on the end semester sassine so I'd say just sort of step away from that and just figure out what you are in your heart you know authentically what you really are and then go out and fall in love seventeen times and break your heart since one thousand pieces. You'll be fine. Yeah do you think you will get over it eventually but yet broken homes do hill? But you're right. It is about knowledge in itself in the first place. "Conversations of your life. I'm Emma goes well watch out for. The swearing comes Jackie. Haiku poet Comedian Anthony. To Mak- she grew up in skelmersdale in northwest England. I'm just white hair about her. First sheltered crushes. I think she's the first person that's ever taught me about being attracted to an object couple of into this. Well I always take the bisexual box literally but the small size ends than that isn't the I like. The word Queer is on fire with an lots waves produced Survive Queen just meaning like fucking things off like an assault of of quite like you know doing it wrong for any sort of purposeful goods. Why saw linked to and GAL rank had to go wrong. Even crepe wrong lights disabled wrong so that people can say me so got one leg and so I- folk that applied instead of being like the. Oh God of Gotland Lego. Pull me or you know whatever light the thing that people expect to be as I do like stump poetry. An you'd like you know you've got to get a celebrity is obviously so it's like things to fuck shit open. A really goes. Why THEM OPENLY SURF expectation? So that's your favorite subject to them. Basically yeah yes. That's what it's called like. Calm Yourself Queer. Because that's what I'm about ways so alike but then when you say queer people like what does she really mean. What's the real sexuality as if it's an umbrella term that means nothing? I don't think that I love it so then you like you're right. Yeah you just want to know. What jets wholesome into his own? Yeah so I mean some yeah. Yeah so all of them all of them and then as problem as advice actual isn't words now. It's the the problem of sexual I mean. A lot of people now are saying Pan Sexual as opposed to vice may be in the past. Marta said bisexual this big shift. Isn't that the problem with bisexual? So people again and a couple of ood might people's on from scam in Wigan listen cone means like he got he got gangrene loving bisexual because of buy into so people like that means that you only like men and women. I'm by taming. You hate transpeople. Or You are an unseen. Non Binary so. That's absolute bollocks. You know historically bisexual people of been translated some advice on use of limited space. It's not like Oh you're bisexual you've got twice. The amount of exceptions gay people hate you straight people here generally people just keep the fucking down which at some yes so historically. It's like being bisexual rights. I don't care about being accepted by any of the group of people Which is true as well of being non binary and Trans and you know occupying all. I'm spices song. Yes was bullshit just because just because the prefix by means ten means that people can really like so fixate on the Ron and going Oh do you know what this represents people and people more complicated than that? By definition you probably would identify as being panned. But you'll just quite happy using by sexual stuff is just like the underdog. I just wanted to defend the word bisexual. Rarely saw stay with it and also I just saw a fought for inside and outside to me. That's because it's you're yourself as well an fought for it for so long about. Just give it all you know so. We'll just fight the case for because there's a lot of sex was out there but the core find not enough people put their head over the parapet and go. Yes me. I'm bisexual. Well exactly. Yeah and especially when you've got a platform if you perform in some sense because you don't know that she giovanna you're gonNA pay the rent Matassa if you like. Oh Yeah Bisexual and the streets you folks on what Stacey Wipe People's so it was sort of come to the conclusion that you were by social what was like my first crush was multiple. Was on tremendously Sasi. Yeah like h three with multiple. I was very very politically correct when it was on the way. Multiple glomma model lovable and Rambo. Rambos Rob Rumba Joe Jr so take like Kinsey. You know it was the people you love some crushing Mongo. I'm moms what you call this. Big Massive St that Intel from the way of Santana big massive tape Zack. Were get so plus plus two. What about the guests that was in there with the group? I was as a Christian Catholic blaster as well. Okay well. This is moving into a whole news. Fair inanimate objects as well well you'll stay. There was just so didn't have any I mean. I think I haven't changed that much since I've lived like quite hard life but in another way quite charmed life because of never rarely socialized. I've never had an office job. I add my parents who great I was never really told off. Fancying ghetto blaster. So we're never stops at quick fair enough check. And you're the first person that's come out. Mister trump's object today like you. I didn't know that you sexually with age child. You wouldn't really so. When was the first time you sort of articulated that and said maybe to your family or someone that union Joran advance and Brooke signs and at been getting the balls up phrases. Well I should suppose that was some some of whom Ananta parents and it didn't say to them moms odds I'm bisexual because it sounds to sexual you know like even just saying the words something sexual Siemens feels embarrassing society as well. He's just embarrassed. The rivalry so aside at the the girl saying I'm not my friends. That's my girlfriends. Go thirteen year. But she wasn't she didn't really like me. That's why USC skips over at nine nine thousand virus so you were having a relationship with not just it was you liked to. I live in a world of delusion. It's like even citizens vets-go angle most the most the reality of this because one year reis from performing you re rice life the narratives in your own life because you use it using the angle. What really happened so at thirteen? There was a girl at school. Presumably that you liked. Did you tell her that you know I was studying like everyone I think is? Is that my sexuality? Always been like a won't the elicit thing on the saying I'm not meant today once a Catholic school. So maybe that's so you're not meant to go out with women but then once so as like very established in the lesbian community. It's like Oh you're allowed to go out with women now. So that's not fun anymore for how Lesbians Hate is shackled men. Let's go to that and then once it was like Oh Giannis just bisexual or okay. So now I'm allowed to Shag out everyone on so where to go. Now so did you. Really get flack from les pins than for food. Let me yeah. Yeah Yeah I was angry. Sort of twenty something. You get more people on the late. I didn't see you face. Those quad knock ECOWAS land. I wasn't this wonderful chairman. Of course you got loads of like bi phobia. I go threatened and stuff life performance pride and do stuff about bisexuality and go like threatens and the Beer Garden say threatens me and you know when you think Oh my God. I'm going to get my kicks usually annoyance and like some people get an annoys for being in Chris Vices or existence in general and then you got like straight people alike. Think just think that it means the Kinky and you WanNa go fronts while I watch so. Why is it so difficult for people to comprehend? I've never really understood. It's just proud. People love binary is learning. People are obsessed with like extremes. The idea that the world's and people are just very gray area and everything's fluid scares the shit our people because humans needs the categorize things like pick a solid any side. Exactly you feel miserable. Yeah it's just don't give a Shit. Choose one very very similar to the football analogy. Yeah it's interesting. I know why phobia exists. I've certainly dated a lot bisexual. Men over the years and a half off lesbian friends. Turn around and go Emma. Why are you bothering? Yeah and the assumption is. They'll never commit to you. Because in the end of the day they will go up and find him on these sump. Shen and then I guess in straight world. The assumption is for men that you're going to go off and leave them for women so you can just want you have kinky sacks. Yeah yeah difficult so you haven't told me yet. The conversation over brookside. What happened to be here for us? So let's go back in time and they were just like okay. It wasn't a difficult kid but I was fucking whimsical. You know thought could fly. It was a more lowest much so they were just like okay okay. I think they saw us. It was a phase but because it was a faizy kid not because they were pricks. And you said you couldn't say reverse bisexual. So how did he phrase it? What did he say? I sat this girl. I such as my girlfriend but then you start talking about what she really Alfred portion on you have to keep coming out so it was. It was years I was being bisexual. I would say it was bisexual swell the people and then Owens University and I was so excited about joining and it was just the algae bay then feel old. I was so excited about being around people and then I got there and it was like Oh okay. You know survival instincts that sends us and you like folk. I should say. Espn so then. There was a lesbian to try. And Fa these people are whenever fest with anyway so it was more of a class thing than a sexual thing but anyway he didn't think that except you. You said that you were born. Not Definitely not gosh. Well you say you're all university. I'm that old. It was just the lesbian and gay society. Didn't even business eljay changes that was in Liverpool. Really the early nineties. Yeah Liverpool Exchange Union Lesbian and Gay Society and I made them change. It came out of sexual I I would say. Yeah really. Yeah just decided just because the couple of boyfriends doesn't really make me bisexual. Their Charter Mail didn't work. I think that's the thing is people don't know what the what the definition of bisexual is. Dude I don't know if they're allowed to call themselves fan so the guy off Plata Baranov guy is lesbian is thought you along whereas in reality it's like you can call yourself. You know you fancy one man and old woman in the World Bisexual Fun. Yeah exactly I still fancy. David Beckham on occasion. So yeah. Maybe I'm still bussing actual. Maybe it's forever changing isn't a plan doesn't have to stick to one thing though. We say it's a lot more fluid people think you know when people go don't like labels and I used to hate that because there was like I'm folk. Who Fighting for this label mates? I think had laws on people of just realized Iverson's fluids. Everything's it doesn't fucking mass lot much in terms of like just accepts everyone but the thing is is that if you not finding all about labels then you can't fight foot furry so the needs to be a kind of a campaign that needs to be abandoned is like four Calms Island accepts everyone. Maybe some showers enough as it really both men and women and yeah it is putting her well. it's more about the Straits. I've never tasted the bisexual woman. Don't think yes sir. I've tasted lesbians Butch Lesbians Brilliant Stassen Brandon. Roy Bisexual man again that that makes sense to me. That's present BUSA. Now I'm saying straight man is not just a straight man is strays. Middle-class is nine to five able bodies neuro tape-recorded white middle class. Man Walked a fork. Utah disappointed disappoints. The I've been trying to convince them but even on Coke is now. Everyone intern anyone with cocaine for like he's even straight land. It's disgusting and have you had him you all by securing love your Easter a main. I'm out there on ice. Just the idea of hope is one. It's always something bisexual in my assume that I'm straight off. Well let me just say you'll start with your rainbow colored hair and your source of stalls and Rainbow Tattoos. Love your body as well as well as quiz gusty. Yeah and I think maybe just the way I approach is tall handsome and still flat. Has He ever mentioned it? Or you've had any conversations I saw bang on about like buyer Asia life on saving. You know when someone to Maisy Gather. Simone opens like gay or strikes all. Italian grandma and they'll say oh they must be guy because they've kissed you know I've kind of not staunchly will just notice now because the two because. I'm not watching this algorithm but yeah it's gone about did saying early days. He said something that was like you don't need a community because you can join an is a one and I was like no. Don't you think it'd be lovely to have my own community like.
