MAC Decision Not a Surprise to Huskie Football Team

"Big 10. Impact 12 received most of the attention this week when both conferences postponed their fall sports seasons. But that decision was really accelerated by the Mac, who on Saturday became the first FBS conference to pull the plug on the fall. I talked to Northern Illinois football players earlier today about their perspective on the conference call to keep them off. The news came with a mix of shock and disappointment. But when the Mack move to postpone its fall sports season and I, you players commended the conference for prioritizing their health and safety. I understood You know, and I appreciate it that you know the Mac was willing to do what was best for our health. As far as our you know, players were taking the players and doing what was right even if it was done popular pain. Other major conferences quickly fouled the max lied. However, the Big 12 SEC and a C C are all still forging ahead, meaning the Huskies would be sidelined while others play on is they deem that is not safe, not healthy to play? And people are playing. Then I would be kind of worried about you know my brothers and my friends from other schools, and I'd be worried for their health, You know, but they deem that it's safe to play. I just asked him questions on what is the reason why people aren't playing and why they are playing the separate standards and diverging medical advice Schools are receiving has frustrated some players just confused, You know deeply for now, and I You plans to keep its safety and testing protocols in place. As the Huskies hold out hope for spring. I might be a little bit more patient than I what is hoped for, but it was definitely in my plans to finish is that there are started. "Get started like like we almost always liked to do and I go back to the beginning a little bit. What was your? What was your first exposure to aviation? How did you first get involved? Well you know a lot of people ask me where this passion king from. Certainly wasn't for my childhood because in Mexico growing out both you know middle class family the SIMA flying planes. So I was just not in the not on the menu and My first sort of experience was a beautiful hot air balloon. So here in Illinois and I happen to spot this beautiful lights craft I thought it was kind of a toy airplane and as we approached this day said, no you Texas fly aircraft and we immediately my husband and I purchased the discovery flights and I think it was the first time that flying that aircraft with no doors on. Sort of you know like it's almost like sometimes you find ambition find a passion and sometimes the passion finds a way to find you and I think that that's how it started to kind of fit into every part of my life with the ideation school asking me if I could do their marketing and then being invited to an island to keynote or three hundred soldiers and my finding a way to get there with the traffic that this growed represented asking. Yeah and it's a great great sign that when you did that discovery flight with the doors off, you enjoyed it I. I've done a couple of young eagles flights in the zenith. We we had an are flying club where we we pull the doors off which I love a pilot but sometimes I look over there and that that Young Eagle was a baby in the seat a little. A little too hard. So say there's a little getting used to. Yeah. Yeah. That's that's good that you enjoyed it Why did you go sport pilot? Why? Why did you Y how? Why was that a good fit for you? I the school that I was But I basically, with were kind of experts saying you know light sport aircraft, which is the new that BFA introducing two, thousand, four and It seemed to be you know hobby it seemed to be a wonderful way for me to get my hands but you know just kind of getting to the beginning to the industry and You know running to companies and nonprofit organizations in between my travels around the world I, Kinda wanted to see how Would you know fulfill my life and in in in this passion continues to grow. And I just found that aside an amazing stone having the responsibility of three passengers just one. Done by Katie. To to really you know to make that happen. So in hindsight now back and say, well, I I wish I would have gone straight to my private but the experience all the hours and a gain to close one hundred, fifty hours on the four aircraft You know I, it's it's just getting more confidence that I can fly bigger aircraft and now I mean they journey of getting my

Biden VP Search Narrows to Kamala Harris: Does She Want the Job?

"Democratic presidential nominee of Vice President Joe Biden could reportedly announced his pick for a running mate as soon as this week. California Senator Kamala Harris. API appears to be one of the leading candidates, but some are questioning if she AH wants to take the job or not for more key CBS News anchor Dan Mitchinson spoke with Carla Marinucci. Senior writer for Politico California playbook. Carla. What do you think? First of all, Do you think this could be Harris there? Even in the last days, Vegas betting circled at this point. Dan is being number one on Joe Biden's list. Who knows how that's gonna play out? But the fact is that Kamala Harris has been mentioned before. For other Possibilities in the administration, including attorney general, including possibly a nominee for the Supreme Court. Obama and during the Obama administration, she was reportedly asked if she wanted to be attorney general. She turned that down on the issue of the Supreme Court. She said She wanted to run for Senate at the time. But times have changed, And perhaps she might have changed her mind. She's getting advice from some Democrats that she might consider turning down the VP job because the attorney general job at this point could be more consequential. Willie Brown, who former San Francisco mayor said in his column on Sunday that he thought, uh, right right now, there's nobody left important than the vice president. I mean, as he said, Ask Mike Pence so that nobody thinks the vice president is a really influential job. But the attorney general, ah could have a long to do list ahead and that could include prosecuting Trump in the trump family law enforcement reform, Other issues related tio inspector generals and other things that the Trump administration has done and Democrats I think may be cheering that on, so we'll see how it plays out. But certainly Kamala Harris has a lot of different possibilities. But right now it looks like she may be at the top of the list or very close to it when it comes to Joe Biden, vice presidential nominee, But let me ask you this. I mean, Biden is gonna have a lot of California locked in the rest of the country, not necessarily a big fan of our state. Do you think a VP from here would hurt or help him then? That's been a debate Janet, But the fact is Kamala Harris has huge name recognition in the rest of the country. The You don't want the advice presidential nominee to do any harm. But in commonly Harrison's case, she could help in helping deliver some of those states where you need to rev up the Democratic base of progressive base. She had those followers right. She had a presidential campaign that brought her to all of those swing states. And so many voters know her out there more than some of the other women on the list. That doesn't mean, however, that people like Karen Bass, perhaps the House member from Los Angeles, Uh, Susan Rice, former ambassador and Tammy Duckworth's, uh, the senator from Illinois who is highly thought of this well couldn't be part of the mix as well. But how tough would this be for not only Biden but for Harris if she decides to run in four years if Biden's only in there for one or even in eight to move into the White House when we have a pandemic going on, and an economic recession? Yeah, you've actually hit on it and that some of the reasons why we've heard some doubts about Kamala Harris being mentioned the fact that she's ambitious. She clearly wants to run for president in some point And the go by in vice presidential nominee is in effect giving a leg up to whoever wants to do that It is effective primary in a way for the for the next presidential contest. Many Democrats would believe that that May hurt Joe Biden in some respects because they may want not wantto help. Comma. Harris is much when it comes to pushing legislation in Washington because they won't want to advance her chances. There's going to be a lot of Democrats who want to run for president, Uh, in 2024. So at this point, Yeah, Connell, Harris and her future plans and her future ambitions have all been part of the mix. It's why some Democrats say she may be the best choice for Joe Biden. Uber and Lyft ordered to classify drivers as employees

"Are following a developing story and Uber lift both stocks are on the move following California court ruling Deirdre has got the very latest deirdre. The court's ruling is stayed for ten days to allow Uber to appeal but it would force the ride sharing companies to immediately we classify their drivers as employees in California in a statement Uber says quote when three million Californians are without a job our elected leaders should be focused on creating work trying to shut down an entire industry during an economic depression lift for its part said quote drivers do not want to be employees full stop will immediately appeal this ruling and continue to fight for their independence. If the appeal is not granted or there's no further stay, there is a chance. Melissa that. Could shut down their APPs entirely in California Uber keeping. Mind has over one hundred, thousand drivers in the state and bringing them on his employees I'm told would be nearly impossible. Now, the other option is that they continue to operate and risk legal liability as you were saying, shares of Uber and lift their down about one and a half and two and a half percent respectively in the after hours investors, they do know very. Well that regulatory pressures had been building, but as I said, Melissa, this was a key battle in one of the most one of their most important markets and it comes as other states from New York to Illinois Massachusetts are looking at similar legislation and to be clear this doesn't just affect ridesharing Uber's pivoting towards food delivery. The classification of those drivers are also at stake here back to you did your thanks dude or both? And I I would think that the stocks would be down even more if this was seen as a true threat to the business particularly for Uber. Yeah I think Deebo said it I mean the expectation was this outcome here we know that Dr Uber was out in the New York Times pending an op Ed making a lot of the points that Deirdre just mentioned here there isn't a whole heck of a lot of evidence that a lot of these workers actually WanNa be fulltime employees they actually like driving for lift and Uber Maybe doing a little post mates little caviar here so it'll be interesting to see what happens just mentioned this would lift you know. They're going to report in a couple of days after the close. After we saw Uber's seventy five percent year every year client ride bookings. GonNa be a really important one for lift the only North American rideshare. That's why this issue in California is probably more significant to them. But I'll just mentioned this at a seven and a half billion dollar enterprise value lift is way too cheap an asset even with all the losses that they have right now ridesharing whether these gig economy workers are employers are not is here to stay in Google wants fitbit for two billion dollars for their data. So many certainly wants lift yeah. I would also think that these drivers in during a time of pandemic one job whether it be classified as a contractor or full employees. I'm sure they're not that picky at this point, Tim? I think there's a lot of folks that enjoy being an independent contractor gives a lot of flexibility not only with how they live their days and how they deal with their families and what they can do. But also from a tax perspective and I I agree with what dancing and there's a lot of these guys at work for multiple a rideshare companies and also agree that I've said this before if you WanNa hail a cab in a major urban center now good luck it's not happening and rideshare is here. There's arguments that this did not do things for pricing for people all around the country, but but the reality is I love Uber here but I look at the chart and yes, they've had about a fifteen, a little twelve, thirteen percent pullbacks, their numbers. But at the bottom here of this rain been in around thirty three bucks, this is a stock that takes you back to a level where I think it's it's found support and you've priced in a lot of bad news. This post mates acquisition gives them thirty seven percent essentially delivery of the food business. And I think it's something that ultimately allows them to leverage their platform don't love the stock, but there's a lot of bad news in here and I think most of that bad news has been priced in.

That doesn't happen in government no Anyway so as looking at the list of the ten highest paid public employees in California. And they're almost all in a school district of some sort because the California Teachers Association is the most powerful Union in America. And they've gotten a good deal for a whole bunch of people. You've got a bunch of people that are making three hundred four hundred thousand dollars a year in school districts That's serious money. Well it maybe. I could be convinced that you need to spend that much money to get somebody that could do that job. But I'd be pretty surprised. Well come on. There are three hundred and forty thousand people making a hundred grand. You can't find anybody for thirty percent lasser whatever. Who's competent qualified? Well we've do chronicled through the years. The incredible bloat in administration. You're usually talking about schools but are I'm sorry colleges universities Up and down. The line are much more administration heavy than they've ever been before and less frontline heavy and the problem is the unfunded pension the pensions and the pay for the active people is just incredibly high as for the reasons Jackpot but number years ago in Illinois. They're very generous retirements except that those formulas they offered up. We're complete fiction. All it has to happen is seven to nine percent growth in the stock market every single year and specifically in our investments as long as that happens these These numbers work. Yeah except that. That's never been well. It hasn't been something you could rationally. Expect for many many years and you have crashes have downturns you have flat periods and the rest of it and so now those fictional numbers of mean that they're China Norma bills unthinkable retiree pension bills. Come due soon and there's no money in the till so your California could be the first to the finish line. It is a a drunken sailor on a coke binge in Bangkok in terms of responsibility California by Shears. This is and union slavery slipping slave to the Union could beat Illinois finish. Is this a fair statement? A government job should never be a better deal than the private sector. Why would it be Well I'm there are special cases I suppose that No I mean a an employer. Why can't it be selling your labor? Is Selling Your Labor? What how does it get to be because it clearly is like? I understand why but why shouldn't it be right? Why if if somebody is working in again my argument is largely theoretical. But I would if somebody's working for the state you know I would want good people there and to have competitive rates. Don't you almost by default? Have to pay more than the private sector if you want to get the best people. Why because the private sector's China's hard as they can to get the best people to do. I need to have the best person to start with. But we're not even close to that territory right. There is no way that the best whatever this person does. Yeah what do you have to pay for Abusive Idiots right? Well no there should be just competition where you're not talking about. You know the hope diamond. You're talking about a commodity human beings. Unfortunately there are a lot of us and if you need a really good employees there should be competition between the public and the private sector where You know you get the best person for just use round numbers one hundred thousand dollars year. Well the second best person is going to be making ninety nine thousand nine hundred and eighty dollars. Because they're almost as resurrect and one of them went private. Private one of them went public and they're making essentially the same amount. 'cause they're like again? It's not the hope diamond. There are a lot of common people in the World. But we gotta get rid of the we we certainly have to get rid of the term public servant. You're not doing this because you're a public service auto show. You're doing this because you can hell of a lot more money than you could ever make in the private sector and you can't get fired job security. Yeah the job security. Oh my God I mean there. Are Some people actually in state and federal work who? They're not getting rich but they've traded the complete job security for maybe a little lower paycheck because not every government employee has the California Unions who owned the legislature. I think you'll get home. Does that society? If the government job is better than the private sector Oh yes substantially better. You'RE DOOMED. You cannot possibly function right. "The Armstrong and getty show. Clearly throwing cash at the crowd, stupid people out the sunroof throwing money. The gentleman was flashing out throwing money out to the crowd. This type of behavior is unacceptable. We become in our city, disrupting our city. There's will be seen later found out that four people were also hit by shrapnel and had minor injuries. One person was calling me, and while I'm talking to them. There are gunshots in the background. That's unacceptable but I think. When you look back, you gotta say the cops need a great job. It was it was a potentially violent situation. We gain compliance and we flushed it out of there there. You go miscreants trying to make a rap video Daytona beach. And so I don't know whether. The gunshots come from I. Don't. You have to fire off. You're going. That's part of being a rapper. Yeah I. Don't know if there were like pyrotechnics involved that went awry or food as in lieu of special effects, they were just shooting off. Guns did I I, don't know I. Don't know if the further. Behavior New I'm against it. I like their tone there. Though shooting a rap video, you'll not have this. So. There's a race between a couple of states. Going broke. And in the mix is the biggest state in the country and the problem with it. Going broke is of course the state. The biggest economy. It would need the most money. And if you live in, California it's bad if you don't live in California, it's really worse because you don't even get to vote in California, but you might have to send some of your taxpayer money to bail California. Why California's in trouble there are how many employees public employees in California make one hundred grand year more once. You think about that for a moment. Three hundred forty thousand. D- need that. Many public employs period. It seems like a high number just in terms of employs, but there are three hundred forty thousand public employees in California make one hundred, thousand, a year or more. When was now granted CAL UNICORN CORNEAS? Expensive place to live, and so you're going to have to pay people more. Than, say account than a state employee in Mississippi for instance but three, hundred forty thousand. When was the last time a program or a department? That was no longer need in California's folded and done away with. And all those people I don't know. Maybe they were reassigned, or what have you, but this is no longer necessary. It's wasteful were ending never never happened just grows and grows and grows and grows few work in the private sector. They get rid of your. I don't know what's A. Well come on, there are three hundred and forty thousand people making a hundred grand. You can't find anybody for thirty percent. lasser whatever who's competent qualified well. We've do chronicled through the years the incredible bloat in administration. You're usually talking about schools, but are. I'm sorry, colleges, universities, but schools up and down. The line are much more administration heavy than they've ever been before. And less frontline heavy. and. The problem is the unfunded pensions well number one that just the pensions. And the pay for the active people is just incredibly high as for the reasons Jackpot, but Number years ago in Illinois got the same problem there a number states that are really up against it. The unions got the legislatures to pass these these laws establishing or changing the pension systems. They said listen. We're GONNA. Have the teachers for instance in the firefighters and the cops kick in X. amount of their their paycheck. Every year or every paycheck, and then with the growth in the investments of the funds We'll have more than enough money to cover their retirement. They're very generous retirements. Except that those formulas they offered up. We're complete fiction. All it has to happen is seven to nine percent growth in the stock market every single year, and specifically in our investments. As long as that happens these these numbers work. Yeah, except that that's never been well, it hasn't been. Something you could rationally expect for many many years, and you have crashes have downturns you have flat periods and the rest of it, and so now those fictional numbers of mean that they're China Norma bills unthinkable retiree pension bills come due soon, and there's no money in the till so your California could be the first to the finish line I've been really favoring Illinois. Illinois for longtime is the the first state to go broke. Because Illinois is fiscally, it is a a drunken sailor on a coke binge. In Bangkok, in terms of responsibility, California by Shears, this is and union slavery, slipping slave to the union could beat Illinois finish. Is this a fair statement? A government job should never be a better deal than the private sector. Why would it be? well I'm. There are special cases I suppose that. no, I mean a an employer. Why can't it be selling? Your Labor is selling your labor. What how does it get to be because it clearly is? Like I understand. Why but why shouldn't it be right? Why if if somebody is working in again? My arguments largely theoretical, but I would. If somebody's working for the state, you know I would want good people there and to have competitive rates, don't you? Almost by default have to pay more than the private sector. If you WANNA get the best people why, because the private sector's China's hard as they can to get the best people to do I need to have the best person to start with, but we're not even close to that territory right. There is no way that the best whatever this person does. Yeah, what do you have to pay for Abusive Idiots right? Well no there should be just competition where. You're not talking about you. Know the hope diamond. You're talking about a commodity human beings. Unfortunately, there are a lot of us, and if you need a really good employees, there should be competition between the public and the private sector where you know, you get the best person for just use round numbers one hundred thousand dollars year well, the second best person is going to be making ninety, nine, thousand, nine, hundred and eighty dollars, because they're almost as resurrect and one of them went private private. One of them went public, and they're making essentially the same amount. 'cause they're. Like again it's not the hope diamond. There are a lot of competent people in the world, but we gotta get rid of the we. We have to get rid of the term public servant. You're not doing this because you're a public service auto show. You're doing this because you can hell of a lot more money than you could ever make in the private sector and you can't get fired job security. Yeah, the job security Oh my God. Some people actually in. State and federal work who they're.

Little close to me. She looks very regular and I don disparaging nothing. All just looks like a person. Yes, that's a good way to look. Maybe I'll end with this then. Attitudes toward China continued to sour in the United States I am under the belief that trump is going to try to maneuver Biden into standing up for China and the mainstream media for to stand up to China stand up for John You can't understand what I'm talking about. Now, we try though try so hard. Straight Jack Gets you? Trump's going to put the meeting a position because whatever he's for. They have to be against that they stand up for China and America. By the time I get to election day. Who knows where we'll be but America's really souring on China with a new political morning console poll last week. Finding that thirty one percent of voters now say China is an enemy. That's the worst category you can be in of the choices. Actual enemy I'm sorry. What percentage is it because? You remembered the A and G principle. And it's it's only because. I have a short attention span. I don't care about the number till I know what it's describing Ah. Not Imprint, you have to have to lead with what it is yeah, and so the percentage of Americans who believe China's an enemy is now a third and increase about eleven points in just the last couple of months, and that could easily grow. As. We get to election day as they mow people down the streets of Hong Kong. Yeah, so if a third say China's the enemy. Then you got a good chunk of people who you know might go that far, but have a bad view of them. two thirds of of people now have a negative China, so I think that's a pretty good political move for China for trump to be on the side of. China's our enemy and make the media's protective him yolks. They will do. Listen sometimes I have to apologize I'm I'm to for the room as they say in comedy I forget that a lot of people were having a great time over Memorial Day weekend, enjoying their family and friends and lakes, whatever or or or murdering morning, their friends and relatives who gave their lives in war, or just American veterans in general and good for you for doing that, but China has pushed in the Pro Beijing. Legislature is now considering laws that essentially give away all hongkongers rights for independence, and on independent system in the rest of China's made their big move during the covid and we. We suspected they would do something big. While America was preoccupied. But, they've essentially said no Hong Kong you are completely under our thumb, and the Hong Kongers are now back out in the streets by the hundreds of thousands protesting, because they know this is the death knell of any sort of liberty in Hong Kong. And it's it's. It's heavy heavy days for those folks yeah at, but it also could be the death knell of China hoping countries around the world think they're gonNA is right. It could be the end of that right. Yeah, maybe they don't care. I don't know yeah. China has long been the benevolent gangster that everybody knows in the mob, but they give out tons at Thanksgiving, and as long as you don't like, run afoul of them. They're not going to hurt you But then you do get into business with them, and you find out how brutal they can be, and you think Oh. My God, why did I fall for this I'm and more people are waking up to it and I'm glad really. Why is California going broke? And why are you if you live somewhere else going to have to bail the state out with your taxpayer money? We can explain that to you coming up..

"You want to go home in fantastic beautiful. We're going to be wearing spacesuits out to clubs. Crayola has unveiled colors of the world. Crohn's and they're getting a lot of attention for this and Kudos as it now represents forty different skin tones. People find that fantastic. I think forty seems like a lot. I can understand that. We needed to get away from one Caucasian looking crown that said flesh on it slashes a hot word anyway we're back to cannibalism now. Don't you mean skin on the Texas chainsaw massacre in the scenario flash is odd that there is ever a crayon called flesh. You don't need one that's for skin. Just let people choose which other colors from the coloring box to color things they want. I've got kids who color every single day. They don't need where's the CRAYON labeled flesh Tanisha pinkish would do. Yeah yeah they don't have a cran labeled leaf green. You're allowed to color the leaves Green. That's my point. I just didn't say it as well Looking at the depth chart Good weekend yesterday. Five hundred three lowest number in months nationwide. Why five hundred and three deaths day before that six thirty three so again. Is this a bit of a blip something to do with the weekend Memorial Day? Something or other. Will it come back into the thousands or we passed some point. We're going to stay down in that. Range will known a couple of days. I suspect rather strongly it's the latter just looking at Georgia's experience. They opened up more and earlier than virtually any other state. And they're not trending down with. They're not trending up and that beginning the numbers and listen with all due respect to the the loss of certain families who again we're never cavalier about your loss. Were just trying to balance. You know of the shutdown and it's terrible terrible effects with with the risk of the covert just understanding going in but The numbers are actually not impressive. At all right now and getting back to Italy. I made the point at the very last hour. They think one of the reasons they had such a high death toll in Italy because nobody can quite sure why there a tremendous number of Chinese garment workers there so they know why there are so many cases but the death toll seem to be much higher and epidemiologists are now saying it's probably because they had incredibly mild flu seasons for a while and there were so many Ulster's who normally would have died of the flu who didn't and they were their old and vulnerable. God bless them and the Cova got them instead the covert also got Hertz. Rent a car as they became one of the highest profile companies to declare bankruptcy due to the pandemic over the weekend. They are already struggling in this. Put them over the edge that was. Oj's company right. Yeah if you're struggling and all of a sudden nobody can rent cars. Nobody is renting Garcia. They're not going anywhere. Yeah and finally. This the Libertarian Party. Which was really excited. When they thought they had just an amish show is going to be their candidate and and how he was going to stand on the debate stage and be the the grownup in the room. Well he decided he didn't want to be in this race for some reason and over the weekend. The Libertarian Party nominated a psychology lecturer and nineteen ninety-six. Libertarian vice presidential candidate. Joe Jorgenson as the party's presidential candidate. It's J. O. Joe She's a girl I know woven. Okay yes she's crazy. "This weekend videos of Memorial Day party that Missouri's Lake of the ozarks went viral as swarms of party partygoers. Who were not wearing masks? And we're certainly closer than six feet from each other packed into overcrowded pools despite the ongoing endemic bunched. Up in what looks like a kind of human stew. Human Stephen Human Stew is a sick lover. Tone the end of that people in a pool as a human STU. I'm sorry STU since wet I'm not eating any human stew yet I can be like those desperate rats. Well if you own a crock pot you might as well make up some human stu you just stick it on the morning and evening is ready for you your crocs already to eat all and so that is the only good crocks. I think he misunderstood it. So that reminds me Hitler's alligators more on that to come. So after the cannibalism. You'RE GONNA start eating footwear well. It's good that you've got a plan. Elon. It's a private company. And nealon Musk's spacex doing tomorrow. The president is going to be there although there's some chance the weather's going to delay it but that's pretty exciting. I love the idea that we're no longer depending on the Russians to put people in space come on the national pride means something and I disagree with some of my libertarian. Brethren on this I think are feeling of. We're a great country and we can do anything is really important. I think it fuels a lot of what makes this country great bad company country and what we do is 'cause wars and destroy the environment you can feel free to shut up. I just think it matters national pride matters and doing great things and innovating and exploring and the rest of it and not having to beg fled frequent Putin for Ryden space. I think that that sort of thing matters. I'm not crazy about Elon. Musk space suits. The just. There's something about the way they're cut as wow. It's like a not Craig's fashion of going into space. "In yesterday's primary after the votes were counted some incumbent state up some were sent home and former vice president. Joe Biden continues to roll. Democratic voters gave Joe Biden a clean sweep the former vice president. Beat Senator Bernie Sanders in Florida Illinois and Arizona. Let me say especially to the young voters who have been inspired by Senator Sanders. I hear you. I know it's a steak I know what we have to do. Our goal is a campaign and my goal is a candidate for president is to unify this party and then to unify the nation very happy. Kim Fox tonight thanking her family thanking supporters. She got the Democratic win tonight to everyone who rallied around this race. That made it bigger than one thing. One issue who rejected the notion that we would talk about one singular case it not matter to the people of Cook County and put everything on the line for this. I thank you. Murray Newman defeated incumbent. Dan Lipinski in the Democratic primary last night by a narrow margin. I'm good person with pride and gratitude for the amazing coalition who helped bring this much-needed change Georgia's Birch. Wbz state politics reporter. Dave mckennie is here to take us deeper into those racist. Hi Dave Welcome back after so biggest takeaways of the night for you. Well I think that you know. Joe Biden put an exclamation point on his campaign with the wind last night. here in Illinois coupled with the winds in Arizona and Florida. I mean it just seems like you know. He is on a steamroller to the to the nomination for his. Party's you know There's just not any real way I don't see to stop him. I mean he in Illinois here I mean the the spread was twenty three percentage points. It wasn't even close. And that's after you know four years ago. Sanders pulled. The I mean. He came very close to Upsetting Hillary Clinton here was a two point spread but here Biden just. He wanted the suburbs. They want in the city One you know. Just across the board suburbanites older people So you know that's that's the that's the dynamic and play but you know. I think that we're in this corona virus issue. His created such a strange dynamic with our politics. Now I mean people like Have have tuned up to government and politics at times because it's boring or it doesn't affect them they think but here we are in this moment of time in our country where we're in a crisis and government matters and our politics matter and I think that you know. These campaigns is the calibrate what their messaging is going to be moving forward. It's basically you tap everything that's happened before and you focus on what is going to be monitoring people moving forward and I think that's what the Biden campaign the trump campaign. I think that's what they all are going to be focused on. So what does this mean for the Sanders Campaign? We saw in the last debate Just over the weekend him really connecting the covert nineteen pandemic to the need for universal healthcare in the United States. But is there. Is there a chance of his campaign regaining? Some traction at this point. I don't see that but I do think that the sanders campaign represents a really important constituency. His supporters are some of the most passionate people in Politics. And they matter and they're they're young people they're diverse. They fit for Democrats. This is this is part of the pulse of the Party. You heard Biden in the clip. We played where he's he's wanting to bring those people into the fold and give them a voice and you know how does Biden do that? Well maybe he picks up some of these points in the Sanders Platform on health care on student loans and speak to those people. Draw them in. That will be his key to success. Well in addition to the presidential race Dave. We talked earlier about the state's attorney race and a couple of congressional races. But I want to turn to a few other local contests on the ballot. Let's look at the seat up for grabs on the Illinois state. Supreme Court reminded us what's going on there. The Supreme Court has seven seats on it and it's controlled by Democrats and the way the Constitution is written. There are three seats in Cook County and this is one of those Cook County seats. It was hell by the late justice. Chief Justice Charles Freeman He was the only African American on the court. I won in fact and he chose to retire a couple of years ago and his replacement is justice. Piece gotten a Ville so Ville was on the ballot. This time for a ten year term This race has still not been called by the Associated Press Nashville is is up. Twenty four percent roughly and He's a second place person. Appellate Court justice named Jesse Ray us who has a twenty one percent ninety percent of the vote counted here? It's a little hard to see how that that spread narrows but as I said. Ap has not called that race yet. Let's turn the Cook County Clerks Race. What happened there last night again? It's another race that has not been called by a p ninety eight percent of the precincts have counted state. Senator Iris. Martinez is ahead. Pretty decisively. I think in looking at these numbers. She's got thirty four percent and then In second place Michael Karp Kevin Archie. Who at twenty seven percent? You know what most people who've been in their living rooms over the last month or so have seen these commercials that Kevin are she keeps airing about. How do you say my last name and I think I caught it right there? But he had a lot of money spent on television advertising. And it doesn't appear that that is going to get him over the Hump here. Were there any other races that that surprised you? I think the one that probably was the biggest headline of the night was in the cirque. Rational district Marine Newman Defeating Congressman Bill Lipinski and understand that congressman Lipinski is going to be making a statement about his campaign at two thirty this afternoon which WBZ will be covering. And I think that is a big victory for a progressive democratic politics Women's groups were very involved abortion rights groups involved in so newman has pulled this out. You know and she wanted on the strength. I think of of the suburban vote so between now and November what will be watching some of these runoff elections. Well again I think you know our our politics are so upset down right now and I think that that you know. There's such a hunger in the world about information on the corona virus. And so I think it's going to be up to two. Politicians of all stripes were on the ballot from top to bottom to figure out how they can best help people deal with this problem and it doesn't matter if it's a state level or federal level county level. That's right now all people's minds and I think you know I think in any of these campaigns you know that's GonNa be kind of the troop benchmark.

"This is reset. I'm Jen white in just a bit. We'll take you inside the somewhat. Arcane Process Illinois uses to apportion delegates in the presidential but first former Vice President Biden's campaign continues to rack up wins a massive night for former vice president. Joe Biden Michigan Mississippi and Missouri. And that's not all fighting. Also took Idaho and appears to split the vote in what many thought was a sanders. Stronghold Washington State Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders editor his delegate count with Washington split and with a win North Dakota but the Michigan win is huge for Biden Sanders won. The state narrowly over Hillary Clinton. For years ago and Biden's victory could play a crucial role in gaining the nomination. Here to tell us more about Biden's win and Michigan is Zoe Clark. She's Co host of Michigan. Radio's it's just politics is Zoe. Hi Jen so good to be here so tell me four years ago Bernie. Sanders squeaked out a win over Hillary Clinton in Michigan this time around Biden beat Bernie badly by seventeen percentage points. What happened exactly. Yeah I mean it was decisive now. Polls leading up to Tuesday showed that that appeared to be happening but polls said the same thing. Gen four years ago. Hillary Clinton up by twenty points just days before that March eighth primary and then Bernie Sanders one. So what happened is Biden. Took the state by storm whereas Bernie Sanders four years ago when all but ten counties in Michigan Hillary Clinton had only won ten. He wants seventy-three. It appears ninety nine percent of the state's precincts counted that Joe Biden is going to win all eighty three counties here in Michigan. What have you been able to? Suss out about the demographics of the voters who swung to Biden this time around. Yeah well I mean we are talking about it. Seems like all the sort of demographics right suburban women who are very important here in Michigan Union. Voters that in sixteen some definitely went to donald trump or went to Bernie Sanders. It appears that Biden is sort of reliving. The the Obama Voters including in the city of Detroit Biden got nearly two times as many votes than Bernie Sanders did in the state's largest city so we hunted Biden. Sanders approach campaigning in the state Differently because one was almost non-existent a Bernie Sanders really sort of double down. He tripled down on the state he came in last Friday. He was here all day Friday Saturday Sunday Monday. He was in populous cities that he was hoping for big turnout he visited. Detroit he visited grand rapids. He was in Ann Arbor Biden however he had surrogates up until Monday. Now you know he had democratic names John Kerry was here over the weekend folks like that but Biden did not come till Monday But he did hold a rally in Detroit with Kamala Harris and Cory Booker. And so there was some question among folks who watch this things were we gonna see. 2016 again. Was Biden sort of taking Michigan for granted but it turns out he was not. What does that tell you about where voters are in Michigan? The fact that Biden did not have a heavy presence there himself the F. surrogates they are but Bernie Sanders really poured a lot of energy to the state but couldn't get the votes. Yeah I mean I think you can take things away you can say one that Joe Biden was not Hillary Clinton And you can have a whole hour or two conversation on reset about that and the differences in candidates there. The other is the fact that it appears that Michigan Democrats voters are seriously fed up with Donald Trump and whereas there was a possibility in sixteen. I will always say you've probably heard me say this before. That was not the Donald Trump one Michigan. But Hillary Clinton Lost Michigan right and so it appears that Biden. Got The turnout in a way that Hillary Clinton did not and that Democrats are frustrated and maybe Biden was not their first choice or their second choice or their or their four choice but they are falling in line right old adage is Democrats Fall in love not in line but it appears that is what they are doing here with Joe Biden because of frustration against Donald Trump. Let's talk about the youth turnout in Michigan. Because Bernie Sanders has really made a strong argument for being able to call out young voters. Bring THEM TO HIS CAMPAIGN. Bring them to his side. Did that happen in Michigan? So it's really interesting because that is what we had also heard for days right. That the youth vote Particularly because Michigan also aside from a okaying a no reason absentee ballot in eighteen. Also cades same day voter registration of which thirteen thousand new voters took part in the day of and there was lines that we saw outside of college campuses right that we assumed than an exit polls found out that did go for Bernie Sanders and turn up. Turn out was up but it did not help sanders right. Turnout was up but it still went for Biden. And so you've gotta decide. Was this just a vocal minority But the coalition was not what it was for Bernie Sanders in sixteen and some of that included the youth vote so Michigan Manufacturing state long history with the automotive industry. How do those voters play into this race? Well I think you can't discount that right and Joe Biden certainly. Didn't you probably remember You Know Joe Biden here in Michigan. Barack Obama here in Michigan You know during their administration and the line during the federal bail was Osama bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive and so a lot of auto workers are remembering that and remembered that about Joe Biden and some union voters right who did crossover and and vote for trump It appears that Biden was able to grab back that vote. No Biden was endorsed by several of the previous previous Democratic candidates. That have since dropped out of the race to judge. Amy Klobuchar Motor recently Cory Booker and Kamala Harris. Do you think those endorsements are part of why we're seeing this momentum behind Biden right now yes. I don't think you can discount it and part of that. We know because again the absentee ballots. Tell us something so here in Michigan as I keep talking about these absentee ballots but it is important to note. That folks were turning in absentee ballots. But then you're also in Michigan allowed to do what's called spoiling a ballot so in Michigan there were still more than a dozen presidential candidates on the ballot and some folks voted absentee two weeks ago for people to judge or Elizabeth Warren but then they came back and they spoiled their ballots which means they went to their city clerk and said look. I don't WanNa you know. Have My vote not counted? I want to get it back. And it looks like a majority of those folks went towards Joe Biden and I think this goes back to maybe not the first choice Munoz second choice number third place but they are going to fall in line. And so a lot of those folks that Amy Klobuchar Elizabeth. Warren's the Buddha judges on and on appear to have decided that their second choice at least between Bernie and Joe was joe so to the surprise of many Senator Bernie Sanders only secure to win in. North Dakota also had slightly in Washington State. Voters still being counted at this point. How difficult would it be for senators to bounce back and win the nomination? Well I mean I keep an eye on Michigan. I want be careful talking nationally but I mean by to needs fewer than half of the delegates laughed and I just the folks are saying what I mean. I can even say looking at Mando now. You know a math major in college here but is the pathway right to get the nomination for him. Just doesn't appear to be there and I think it was telling last night that after Biden's win in Michigan and as you mentioned other states Bernie Sanders chose not to speak. I mean I think that is telling and not just in that you know corona virus fears and maybe they didn't want to have rallies I mean Biden delivered his speech not in front of an audience. I think it is telling and I think we've gotTA wait the next couple of days to see to see what happens for Bernie Sanders but anyone who's just looking at the delegate math. It is very difficult to see a path forward Bernie Sanders will next week our state Illinois along with Arizona Ohio and Florida will hold primary elections. They're still a general election ahead. Remember that remember that yeah coming around November. Well you'd be watching four. Oh my gosh. I mean for Michigan. It is just Ken. Trump do it again. We went six presidential election cycles. Going to Democratic presidential nominees Donald Trump stopped that in twenty sixteen and so it is going to be fascinating to watch whether democratic voter turnout Does what appears to have done in. The primary does what it appeared to do in twenty eighteen. We had the highest voter turnout for a mid year election in decades and decades in Michigan in Eighteen and Democrats basically swept all the statewide races. So you know that is telling and portends that Michigan could possibly if election held in the next few days go blue but as you say November is a long way off that so he Clark. She's Co host of Michigan. Radio's it's just politics Zoey. Thanks so much pleasure.

It's about how we as public officials conduct ourselves in private that also matters commonsense and basic decency need to prevail in the everyday interactions that make government work. People need to treat disgusting suggestions with disgust. The old patronage system needs to die finally and completely the import of women and people of Color need to be treated did as essential to decision making not as some token show of diversity. The bit by bit inch by inch. I am working hard to reverse the harm that has been done to people and communities that have been left behind over many generations by government policies and elected officials. Those who were content to simply ignore them. I remind myself every day that I have obligations not just to the current people of Illinois but to the many people who preceded cheated us who were discriminated against Harvard treated as lesser and forgotten lasting damage that echoes through too many communities today we are obligated to make our future more equitable and fair. I came into this office with the message that I am committed to doing things differently differently in my administration. A lot of folks didn't believe me your ago. Now you can see how far we all can come in a year even when the work works still remains. It's time for us to recommit ourselves to the hard work of bringing prosperity and opportunity to all communities in in Illinois through a fairer tax system job creation education and job training programs childcare and preschool and a focus on the building essential tools of success such as high speed Internet in all corners of our state this spring. Working with legislators we will aw begin the long path toward a fairer criminal justice system that starts with phasing out cash bail and following. Doing many of the recommendations made by by the bipartisan Criminal Justice Reform Commission created by my predecessor. Most of whose ideas were never adopted acted. Because of the rancor and dysfunction our spring agenda must also address the pressing issue of adopting new clean energy legislation solution that reduces carbon pollution promotes renewable energy and accelerates electrification of our transportation sector. We saw the effects of climate change right here in Illinois last year with a polar vortex devastating floods record lake levels and emergency declarations in more than a third of bill annoys counties. Urgent action is needed. But let me be clear. The old ways of negotiating energy legislation are over. It's time to put consumers and climate. I I am not going to sign an energy bill written by the utility companies.

"I if someone said this was a Russian imperial stout. I wouldn't have thought I would have not have class. What would I say this? I feel like it's teen. Like, I I'd be very interested to see what the grain bills late for it. I mean, a lot of times burgers roasts note from from the roasted, it's got the bird fruit. It's got like a car. Notes. And and I get the dark fruit too. Hey, I feel like that's a delightful quality this beer, because I'm really not into the Roasti toast Easter you're like it on a little bit of the fruits. Yes. Yeah. Start. Yes. Some of the first things are talking about though were just a style criticism. But then John is talking about the way it tastes and enjoys that. I think right, right. Yes. Yeah. I mean, just as a beer, but I again, I would probably be like you said hard the really identified as a Russian imperial Stamm. Yeah. I am enjoying it. Because of that stone fruit to it that really kinda makes it a little bit different. But if somebody said to me, it was a Russian imperial that. I wouldn't of said really, well, I would've said. I agree. It's tasty. And. Bessant? I get a little effervescent and eleven point five. I don't get that wall so ever. So that's what makes the spirit dangerous boozy. It's not boozy doesn't taste like a Russian imperial stout. You think maybe you're just having a light porter? And all of a sudden you stand up on your drop down. But that the southern Illinois way. There you go. Right. Illinois beer. So I have a question for you guys. How the hell did you get such an effeminate dog? I know actually in real life that no but feminine looking dog like a Salou key. There's a weird Egypt thing going down in southern. So southern Illinois is known as little Egypt. Really? In fact, pyramids. One of the towns down there, which in Egypt is pronounced as Cairo but down in southern Illinois K row. So it's no serpent. They have trouble with English also fill it. It's known as little Egypt. It the Salukis is actually the fastest dog. Yup. And I greyhound faster than a greyhound. It will be great legs on of that and airline Keith greyhounds. They're kind of mean, and I saw the Salu key mascot for the foot during a football game. Ace the Drake university football team off of the field. Interestingly enough, you say that FOSS, but they have a hair hanging down. Right. That doesn't dog curious locks. They they look like supermodels quite Afghan. Like, they do have fluffy years, and they are extremely fast, and you can't outrun them. Well, I could outrun run a bloody d'action. Okay. So the Salu key is really. Going up in my estimation here. Well, done Salukis the beer I'm going to get a thumbs up here. And then we're gonna come back with our kind of bonus beer for a summary. What do we think on? This guy's like kids. We have oh, we have quite a mixed bag. We have we have one undecided. We have one two three. I'm going to get one-two-three thumbs up a thumbs down. I'm gonna give it a halfway only by virtue of okay, it's a Russian imperial stout. Doesn't ice that characteristic of one? But I do like the flavor. So I love the name. Now. I love the name. I love the video clips, and you know, the whole significance of it. I think is really unique to southern Illinois and kudos to big money. I mean, taste fine. It just the style might throw you amber lager that they put out for for seventeenth street. So. Maybe I'll give it's my go-to there. I got on the beer, I do blackout on the route. It'd be good because I am Balogh as to what don't hate him. Okay. Them a little bit of extra. Give them extra. Thumb woods because it's a really cool. Nice label. Very good. "It is very hard to get any traction in southern illinois doing anything so if you're like a an organizer from chicago you might as well just head back to chicago because they don't want to hear i mean it's almost that bad i know somebody that that moved here in kindergarten in they said i'm still an outsider 'cause like my parents were raised air and i don't have like ken from here i mean they are lovely people and they will be nice to you but you're still not from here it's not to say in ministers the totally different way of live so chicago is seen as this like dicta to'real state in part of the state that chicago makes all the sessions and we just have to live with it and so there's a lot of angst and an issues with that from the south and the southern end of the state especially this is just a tip for anybody listening when you refer to springfield as southern illinois and we ended drive three and a half hours north to get springfield it tends to make people a bit irritated especially when their state below us springfields not southern illinois it's kind of in the center of the state in might seem south chicago but it's not knowing i would say here in the metro east and surrounding areas we do have that almost abused child syndrome with chicago but you have to remember even when you're dealing with family services most of the resources you either have to go to chicago area or springfield there's not a lot down here for kids that need to be removed for the home for safety or anything like that most of the resources are up north so it it it is just a geography game and unfortunately that's that's where a lot of.
