Wish you could tweak that text? WhatsApp is letting users edit messages

"WhatsApp is now allowing users to edit messages for up to 15 minutes after they send them. The chat app says in a blog post users can correct misspellings, add more details or otherwise change what they have sent, the ability to edit messages started rolling out to people worldwide and will be available to all users in the coming weeks. That's according to the company owned by Facebook parent meta. WhatsApp says those receiving the messages won't be able to see the edit history. Last year, Apple revealed the ability to edit and un send iMessages between iPhones in a system upgrade, but those on the receiving end see that a message was unsent and the edit history. "To claim anything that Apple make on limits is a first class citizen at all right. Yes, okay. Well, that's fair. So yeah, the motivations for going through this process were we moved to all three of us have got iPhone now for nearly two years and we have the iCloud family planned to do phone backups and all of that stuff. And it hadn't really landed with me that in amongst that collection of services you get Apple music subscription. So as we've mentioned in prior conversations, the cost of living is going up in the UK, so we've been scrutinizing where we're spending money, and it occurred to me, we're paying for a Spotify service and an Apple music service and we're not using both of them. So one of them should probably get ejected. Now, the long and short of it is, it's Spotify that's going after some 12 years of being a customer. And

We Need More Apps With Lightning, Not More Lightning Apps

"Let's get into today's read. And its titled. We need more apps with lightning. Not more lightning apps. By Roy scheinfeld. Fun fact the first digital camera was built in 1974. Nearly 50 years ago, the resolution was 100 by 100 pixels, ten kilo pixels. It was an early alpha. Follow the link to the article if you want to see the rather remarkable image of the first digital camera, which apparently recorded its data on an analog magnetic cassette tape. The link is right in the description. Over the next 34 years, the technology progressed by leaps and bounds. A really good digital camera in 2007 could capture about 12.3 megapixels and improvement of 1230 X. But what was that refinement really worth? Whether a 12.3 megapixels or ten kilo pixels, digital cameras basically just recorded images as digital data quickly. Cameras could perform their one task better, but they could still perform only one task. But a revolution in digital cameras began in 2007, with the device that had a measly two megapixels. What made it revolutionary was that it was attached to other tech. Messaging, a web browser, geo tagging, and later a whole infrastructure of QR codes, monetization models, and special purpose apps that device was, of course, the first gen iPhone. The iPhone and the apps built around it transformed the digital camera from a toy into an indispensable tool of modern life on par with copper cables and email addresses. The camera with its aperture, sensor chip, and memory is still pretty much the same as it was 50 years ago.

Embrace Non Sequiturs and Digressions

"Talk about digressions because I think it's key to good podcasting. Yesterday, again, I have recency bias. So what I heard yesterday, Nathan goes into the Cheetos and the one year old eating the Cheetos. And you say, I could watch a 90 minute movie of the first time you eat Cheetos. She knows are very known on the part of the orange food group, which we consider indispensable to life. And that includes everything that's got orange in it. And I thought, okay, that was a very good digression. And you stopped it after about two minutes, which was about right. Do you have an egg timer like Ben Scalia, the three minute egg timer for give the score of the game? I think I have an egg timer in my head, which is trial and error, right? That you don't want to go, I think you have it exactly right. You can't be afraid of non sequiturs. I think non sequiturs are an important part of Buckeye talk, but man, you better know when to stop. And to stop right, like retire early, right? John Elway, go out on top. Don't hang around. Leave them wanting more. So I think a couple quick non sequiturs in the course of a podcast is great. A 11 minute and 11 minute non sequitur in the middle of a podcast is not as good. So I do think you just have to be a what you really have to be aware at all times. I don't want to plan. I don't want to overplay on the podcast, but you have to be aware at all times. Maybe you don't have to put the directions in your iPhone, but man, when you're out on the road, you've got to be looking in your mirror constantly. So I feel like I'm looking in the mirrors, but then sometimes I'm a back road guy, Hugh, my wife doesn't like it, but I want to go on the back roads. I want to get lost out in the Woods sometimes. I don't want to take the straightest path from a to B but you don't want to get lost for three hours. So I think that's how I podcast as well. Does misses la Marie's love sports or does she know that that's your job and you're calling in your career? No, she knows because she's downstairs and I'm on the second floor and she gets about 86% of what I podcast through the door. So I'll be like, oh yeah, I was talking about this and she's like, I know. I heard it. So yeah, when you're in the same house as the podcaster, you know exactly what's up.

New Walk Away Social App Takes on Facebook's Fascism

"To Brandon strock, walk away, campaign, Brandon, you're being sued in our two, I want to get into this with you. Really, really loony, insane stuff that folks, you can't miss it. You don't want to miss this. This is all on rumble in case you're lame radio station, only carries one hour of this program. And we spit on them. But I got to tell you, I want people to know how to reach you. So I want you to spend the next few minutes because there's a short segment before we get into all of the Looney Ness. How what you've created, this new social app. Sure. So as I was saying before, Facebook are walk away grew on Facebook to over 511,000 people sharing their stories, making videos, et cetera. And then we woke up and it was gone. The group has gone to content was gone. So I had a decision to make if I was going to try to move this movement onto other social platforms, which I didn't really want to do. Also, most of them don't have the capabilities to sort of function the way we need, like Twitter, true social don't have the mechanisms we need to make it work. So I built my own. It took a long two years working with developers, but I launched walk away social about a month ago. To be clear, we're not trying to be the next Facebook, Twitter, true social gather. This is not an open-source social media platform. What we do is we have people sign up, create a profile and once they create a profile, they join our groups. We have a testimonial group, a discussion group. We have state groups. It's actually quite amazing, and it functions very similarly to Facebook, but it's ours. We own it. And it's not as fascist as book. And it's not run by a creepy little martinet named, what is it? Zuckerberg? That's how our sponsor Mike lindell for first just Zuckerberg has suck a book. So how do people find this on they go onto the computers of their phone? Where do they go? So the walkway social app is available everywhere on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. So if you're an Android user, you can go to your Google Play Store if you're an iPhone or iPad user, the Apple App Store, and we're also available on the web at walkaway social dot com for people who prefer to use browsers, computers. So it's everywhere.

Why Deflation Is the Key to Abundance With Jeff Booth

"Can you outline your deflation thesis, the one you talk about in the book? So wherever you start here, right? It's that starting point is a really hard because we're measuring our existing system from the system. And so it's hard to start in an entirely new paradigm. Unconnected from that. So what I try to do is I say, what are the economic rules? In life. What would that look like and one of those rules is prices fall to the marginal cost of production? If you start there and nobody has ever challenged me on that, some people say, well, not if you regulate an industry. Well, explain explain to me what you mean by the marginal cost of production, because some people might not even understand that. So let's dig deeper, but start with prices period exclamation mark. Prices fall to the marginal cost of production. Over a long enough time horizon. You can regulate an industry to stop it. And then that technology keeps moving and it moves outside of your area that you regulated to a different domain that hasn't regulated. And then that attacks the incumbent or the regulated industry. But over a long enough time horizon, prices fall to the marginal cost of production. What does that look like in real life and why? So now let's take the calculator app when it came on the first calculator app on the iPhone. You paid for it, right? Or they monetized it through advertising. But they were making money from it. Otherwise, no entrepreneur would have created the calculator. So they were creating a business. And next entrepreneur, I can create a better calculator app. And they price it down. To be able to win the market.

Appeals court upholds Apple's control of iPhone app store

"A court has ruled that Apple can maintain exclusive control over the distribution of its iPhone apps. And appeals court has rejected the latest effort to force Apple to dismantle its digital wall that protects its most valuable products. The 9th circuit Court of Appeals agreed with the lower court judge, who ruled against Epic Games. The maker of Fortnite, epic sued in 2021, alleging Apple had an illegal monopoly with its App Store. The appellate court, though, did cite some errors in the lower court's findings, which could be grounds for further appeal. Epic Games tried to offer Fortnite outside of the App Store to avoid paying developer fees, but Apple, citing security for its iPhone users. Kick them out. I'm Jackie Quinn.

What China Means to Apple

"You also went and saw Tim Cook. Now I was in a room when Tim Cook got very Sparky with senator Tom cotton when the senator, whom he did not appear to recognize. I'm not sure Tim Cook's up to date on much in the Congress. Question, some of their practices early on in his tenure as a member of the Senate. And Tim Cook just bristled and dismissed what he thought was a young man who probably didn't know anything. Tom cotton. It's like dismissing you. They're on the Intel committee. How did Tim Cook respond 'cause they're the most deeply embedded American company in China. They can't get out. They're like, the pirates who are part of the ship in the Disney movies, Pirates of the Caribbean. You know, the guys who were stuck in the wall. That's apple in China. What did he tell you? Well, to your point here, I left thinking that even in the best case scenario where a company like Apple realizes it needs to de risk is the new phrase of the moment and rebalance their supply chains out of China. You know, it's not like they can pick up and tomorrow they'll be in Vietnam or there'll be an Indian. So it's going to be a prolonged process. And the point I tried to make is that if Apple conceives of their relationship or presence in China is sort of the floor of our economic relationship. But differently, if we continue to decouple and other areas, AI, quantum, they feel that they should still be allowed to make iPhones in China. Okay, well, what happens when the floor falls out of the relationship? The bottom falls out of the relation because Xi Jinping decides to invade Taiwan. Well then they're in a heck of a tricky situation. And for whatever reason, whenever I interact with, you know, big tech CEOs or particularly major asset managers on Wall Street, they really just particularly those who have met with Xi Jinping repeatedly. They just tend to discount the likelihood that Xi Jinping would do something like that. For whatever reason, it's totally foreign to my sensibilities as a military analyst. They just think that he's going to act rationally. He'd never do it. It would be economically destructive. And I just, I find myself always puzzled as to why they think that way, because I think that for reasons that have less to do with, you know, the pure economic calculus and have more to do with his own legacy as well as the ideological nature of the Chinese Communist Party, which we've ignored for two decades. The odds of Xi Jinping doing something like this are indeed increasing. So that's the conversation we had. We raised some concerns about the reports that Apple has shut off their AirDrop AirDrop functionality during the COVID zero protests. We had a back and forth on that issue. So again, this was the first first engagement in what's going to be a longer conversation. I will concede and kind of to the point of your question, this is the trickiest aspect of economic decoupling.

Apple Is Forcing Its Climate Agenda on Your Phone!

"For whatever reason back in the during the fall around the day last same time. You know, they had that Big Apple update. For those of us in Apple, we're pretty used to getting these updates, okay? What's interesting is, in this started coming out on social media, my son, Cameron, he sent this out. And it was an old iPhone, it's charging, what we were finding was having people having trouble charging your phone. So if you're out here on the dot college podcast today and you're having trouble you've had issues with your phone charging and my wife is actually had this and now we're looking at it a little bit differently. There's a reason. And the reason is Apple has decided universally an unannounced to you at least overtly that they have decided to be the energy police. They've decided that with a company or is not green enough or they don't use enough of what they term renewable energies or during the night where you save energy costs. They will just do it for you. They will basically shut down your charging. And not allow you to charge to full capacity if they believe this clean energy charging is not enough if they think it's not getting enough grid off the solar or way underwater, whatever they do it. The interesting part about this is if you go to and I thought they were joking. Okay, James, how many times James over the years have we seen the outrage of social media about something some company has done or some woke initiative? And it turned out to be not what you expected. Of course, of course. Well, I said, okay, yeah, right. Okay, all right, you know, my son said to me, so I went and to my settings, I went to where Danny says to the battery. It comes up in battery health and charging. I look into it and guess what? There is a clean energy charging button. And it says, in your region, iPhone will try to reduce your carbon footprint by the selectively charging when low carbon emission electricity is available. iPhone learns from your daily charging routine so it can reach your full charge before you need to use it.

"iphone" Discussed on Techmeme Ride Home

"Gotten a reprieve from Elon Musk is the Microsoft Activision merger toast because global regulators are coordinating and might regulators look askance at all these generative AI investments from the big cloud computing platforms. Here's what you missed today in the world of tech. Mark gurman Apple scoop Monday, Mark sources are telling him that Apple has discussed taking a page out of Samsung's book by adding a higher end iPhone ultra model as soon as this year. Such a model would probably offer camera improvements, a faster chip, and even larger display, quoting Bloomberg, Apple chief executive officer Tim Cook, speaking on an earnings call that was mostly focused on holiday results, made an off the cuff remark that could be quite telling about the company's future. Cook was fielding a question about whether the iPhones rising average sales price was sustainable. After all, a top of the line model that cost $1150 in 2017, the iPhone X with 256 gigabytes of storage. Now fetch is $1600. The iPhone 14 pro max with one terabyte. His response, the price increases no problem. In fact, consumers could probably be persuaded to spend more. I think people are willing to really stretch to get the best they can afford in that category. Cook said on the call, noting that the iPhone has become integral to people's lives. Well, cook wouldn't say if he anticipates further price increases, he made a good argument for why even more upscale iPhones could make sense, especially if they deliver new features. Apple has internally discussed adding a higher end iPhone to the top of its smartphone lineup, and it's already been doing more to distinguish its pro models from standard iPhones, giving consumers a reason to pay up. When the iPhone 15 arrives later this year, Apple will further differentiate the product's tiers with a range of materials, processors, and cameras. That includes giving the pro max model a periscope lens which will offer improved optical zoom. Apple's plan to draw a greater distinction between the pro and pro max has spurred speculation that the company will opt for a new top end brand. The ultra Apple has already used that name for its sporty high end smartwatch and the top version of the M1 processor. But instead of renaming the pro max, the ultra, Apple could add an even higher end iPhone above both pro models. Internally, the company has discussed doing just that, potentially in time for the 2024 iPhone release. That could certainly drive up prices, but consumers would need a reason to upgrade. At this point, it's unclear how that top of the line model would be different, but it will probably offer further camera improvements, a faster chip, and perhaps an even larger display. There are also maybe more future forward features such as finally dropping the charging port. Samsung has already embraced this approach with its own ultra phone, a model that offers more cameras, a bigger battery, a larger screen, stylus support, additional memory, and a different design. Moreover, Samsung offers two types of foldable phones, which have increasingly become the focal point of its smartphone strategy. Apple has explored a foldable iPhone in the past, but I wouldn't anticipate when launching in the near future. For now, the company is focused on larger, foldable devices, something the size of a laptop. If Apple were to sell a foldable iPhone, the price would clearly be higher than that of its current models, such a device would require far more advanced technology for batteries, displays and chips. Samsung's priciest foldable that Z fold four cost as much as 2160 bucks. It may be quite a while before apple customers have a chance to actually purchase an iPhone fold. But if cook's comments are any indication, many will happily spend the money.

Is the Kevin McCarthy Speaker Deal Good Enough for Conservatives?

"Charlie, if this so called deal that brought over maga conservatives in Congress to vote for Kevin McCarthy is good, then show us the agreement. We want to judge it for ourselves to determine whether or not we've been sold out against all that once again for a worthless piece of paper written by cowards. I agree, we should see it. That is a fair take. And I have no disagreement there. Someone says Charlie, why are you calling out the 7 holdouts? What a dirty lowdown tactic by you? I didn't call them out. It's a fact. I mean, these are 7 people. I actually called them patriots before. I don't know, I don't know really where that comes from. I don't know why you gotta be so nasty. I'm somebody who is more libertarian than conservative, I'm saying you're right. The problem with many people who are bashing you are acting on a motion and not with logic and reason. There is no other way to get to two 18, but McCarthy. I love what congressman rosendale said on the floor yesterday. I only wish we could get these concessions on a legal document, but you're correct in your analysis. Getting a two 18 is the question. Someone says Charlie, it's very obvious. We need to have Jim Jordan as Speaker of the House. The problem with that I would love Jim Jordan to speak of the house is how do you get him to two 18 when McCarthy has a 120 to a 160 loyal, more moderate Republicans that he has done favors for and that he has grown to be close friends with. So that is a question. You have to be able to get to 18. So show the path to get to 18 and the most conservative person or the most conservative concessions that help us get the two 18 that should be considered a victory. Whatever that is,

Jeff Younger Discusses His Struggle to Protect His Son James

"Now is Jeff younger. Jeff, welcome to the program. Walk us through what you guys are experiencing and give us some backstory as well. Well, you know, my ex-wife began to transition my son at the age of two. She forced me out of the house when my son was three, filed for divorce, I took my first iPhone video, if you Google mommy says I'm a girl on YouTube or whatever, you'll see that video it went viral. And she started telling my son that he was a girl, she had a girl's brain and a boy's body. She began to dress him as a boy. I mean, as a girl. And changed his name without my consent or without consent of the court. Eventually she enrolled him in school as a girl, and that led to a huge trial in 2019 where the top transgender experts in the world showed up at this little courthouse in Dallas in the 255th district court. After hearing all the evidence, the court gave me 50 50 custody and no child support. In a transparently corrupt procedure, the Dallas county judges recused the judge that gave me 50 50 custody and put me into another court, the 301st district court under judge Mary Brown, I call her judge Bloody Mary Brown. Bloody Mary Brown then systematically whittled away my parental rights using temporary orders and then allowed my ex-wife to move to California. After reading the laws in California about mandatory contact, if you don't contact your children regularly in California, you can lose your parental rights. It's now become clear that each of the orders issued by the judge was intended to remove my ability to comply with the California contact requirements to maintain your parental rights. So I have no right to see my sons. I can't have electronic communication. I don't even have an address where I can write letters to them. And if that goes on for a year, California can terminate my parental rights without my consent. And so this looks like it was a setup from ideological judge in the 301st district court Dallas county.

What inspired you to want to dive into the topic of the dumbest generation grows up because you've seen very smart. Well, you know, I was a college teacher for a long time, an English teacher at Emory university, and I saw during the aughts, you know, the 90s, in an English department, you always had these bookish kids, you know, they grew up reading Hemingway or Jane Austen and they wanted to get more and they really found a lot of their identity, their lives, through these characters. In fiction, they might have had a great high school English teacher. And what I saw over the odds is actually what everyone saw. This transfer of young people from being print readers to screen watchers. They suddenly had all these new tools flood into their lives. And, you know, Facebook came along 2005 O 6, Twitter came along in 2008. All the iPhone and then the Instagram, the chatting, the texting, the photo, and everything. And what we saw was the gradual diminishment of that literary education, the literary sensibility of young people, and I said, way back in 2008, this first domus generation book was, this is a terrible formation

"The left has managed to cure cognitive dissonance. Haven't you noticed? For the past year or so, leftists have been monolithically pushing for war, war with Russia, war with Syria, or with China. Who could have thought that the party with a long historical record for being anti war could turn on a dime and suddenly become pit bulls for the military industrial complex. Think back on that long history, you have the anti war demonstrations of the 60s and the repeated chance of no blood for oil during the Bush presidencies. And speaking of no blood for oil, you have to admire how the left has gone from occupying Wall Street to being sycophants for Wall Street. Leftist is used to accuse companies of working for the man, but these days, it no longer matters how big and powerful these multinational corporations have become. In fact, the more ruthless and exploitative these corporations are, the more lefty fanboys seek for their approval. As long as these big corporations post a black square or indicate their for social justice, they're good in the eyes of the left. Even though many of these companies use labor from overseas, don't compensate their workers in the way left to say people should be compensated. In many of them receive tax breaks through loopholes because their friends with rich and powerful Democrats. Look at the Foxconn plan in China where the current spate of anti lockdown protests started. Foxconn provides chips for Apple, and Apple helps Beijing crush its detractors by disabling apps. And these same bleeding heart leftists love apple and its products. The latest iPhone is almost a necessity for every blue haired protester in America. That Apple is a literal oppressor, never enters into the equation. Not a single leftist experiences a microsecond of cognitive dissonance over these extreme and abrupt changes in attitude. What's their secret? Very likely it's being utterly devoid of principle or a cohesive worldview, guided by traditional norms of what's morally right and wrong. Many followers have left to some can't explain the cognitive dissonance, so they just ignore it. Standard leftist stuff.

"iphone" Discussed on Apple Talks

"Apple talk. Today I have a special guest here, Emma, say hi. Hi. So today, we are going to be talking about the iPhone 13. Because we both have a variation of the iPhone 13 and we really love how iPhone 13 has a great impact in our lives. So we're just going to be talking about that. So first, I just want to give you a background of how my life was before my iPhone 13. So way, way, way before I had an iPhone 6 S, which was my mom's old phone, it didn't have any cellular service at all. And it was cracked. It had water damage. You could barely hear anything without headphones. So it was a pretty crappy phone. And. There was a deal at Xfinity, which is what we ourselves are resting is. That lets you get an iPhone 13 for the price of an iPhone SE, so that's like I believe $300 off. But so yeah, that was good. But I think it promotion ended. I think in October, so we had to get it in October. And my parents were planning on giving it to me on my birthday. But they knew how obsessed I was with Apple. So they let me have it early. And I just love being able to carry this thing in my pocket. So now I have the best iPhone and my cameras are like awesome. Okay, so I know I've been talking a lot. And

"Back to tech talk radio. A lot going on, especially in the world of Apple. Of course, the first segment we were talking about Sean's brand new iPhone, which got now you're making me want to go and get one and I don't want to spend the money right now, but did you buy it out right or did you do the payment? We bought them outright. We'd been saving up for them because like I said, it's been over 5 years since we bought our phones. Yeah. Number of 2016. Right. Almost December of 2022. So that's almost 6 that's almost 60, 6 years. It's almost crazy for a phone, right? So we bought about right, because that's what we did last time. It's just easier, more beneficial. It's where something goes wrong or upgrade. We're not pinched into a contract or anything like that. So I do know that I do know that when it comes to the shipments of the iPhone 13, if people are thinking about that now, originally, Apple said they were going to have 90 million units available in this last quarter, but the chip shortage. And it is a real thing to factoring all levels and even Apple, which, you know, they kind of have their own kind of way to get all this stuff. Even them are saying, we're going to be 10 million units short when it comes to that. So did that fuel any of the ideal like kalen if we're going to do it, let's do it now. Well, I mean, like I said, this morning we talked about it. She had a massage appointment that she went to and then I looked him up on the website and couldn't find couldn't go to buy them. I couldn't figure out why. I was like, what is going on? I can't buy my phones online. But Apple was updating the store today. Yes, brand new stuff. They just today, they had an event today. I completely spaced on the event. I like watching these because it's always fun to hear about the new technology and stuff like that. So Apple had their I don't even remember what they called it. They had a special at a second fall event. They normally don't do one, follow them. Right. And the second one. The second one. So it was called unleashed unleashed. There you go. Okay. So that happened on the 18th of October and my initial thoughts were they're going to announce an M two chip. They're going to announce the successor to the M1 chip. Well, they didn't do that. They did one better, I think. They announced two new versions of the M1 chip. The M1 pro and the M1 max. Now for our listeners who don't know what the chip does. Can you kind of oh, the chip is it's the processor, right? It's like if you don't, if you're not following and keeping up the tabs on who's doing what with silicon in the world, right? You have Intel. Everybody knows who Intel is. They make a lot of computing chips. AMD makes a lot of computing chips. Mac, to almost two years ago now made their own silicon called the M1, which excludes what we said in two years were no longer going to be making Intel based Macs. Period. The M1 architecture is based around the arm, the a 15, the biotic chips they have. It's all they're all going to a seamless silicon integration. All of their applications will work seamlessly across all of the silicon. It's going to be great. Yeah. So I'll get into the details of those chips independently, but what other things they announced were two new MacBook pros. I'm hearing great things about them already. Oh, mylanta. Amazing. I don't know. I'm not even a, I mean, I have an iMac to the garage, but I'm really not a Mac user, but something is telling me this really is going to be a pretty neat product. I don't know what Apple is doing with this M1 chip and the M1 max, the M1 pronoun, but they are killing it. And what they're able to do on their own platform is just unreal. From watching the keynote today, it was just I could bore you to death the details, but just go to apple's website check it out. They are doing some really, really amazing stuff. So they had a 13 inch. I'm sorry, 14 inch and a 16 inch MacBook Pro. Two new models announced. The highlights of those are the MagSafe charger. Makes it come back. That was a big thing that people got frustrated about. When they went to the USB-C style ports, that's how you charged it. The USB-C charging port. So they brought the kind of rehash to the MagSafe port, which is kind of just a staple of max. All the max have had MagSafe ports for a long time. The MacBook pros. No touch bar. I was kind of caught off guard by that. So on the MacBook pros, they have the LED touch bar at the top of the panel. Which got rid of the function keys. Oh, kind of added and kind of added app support for things. It would change. You could scroll on things. You could it was a little basically a little mini keyboard that brought up different functions when things happened and didn't get a lot. It was not very successful. It was not great. HDMI port onboard, the last iteration of the macbooks got rid of they only had four USB-C ports. And a headphone Jack. An SD card slot. Wow, now that's pretty cool. It's so amazing. It's so basic, but it's something a lot of users would appreciate..

"Having used pro res- in the past. I think there's a far more practical reasons to file. Sizes are enormous. Probably not gonna be able to record for very low one twenty eight. You've got your whole system there. you got whatever else. You're story your phone. And then what's leftover for pro as probably not enough to be meaningful. So they just figured out to cut it off at two fifty six. Now there's probably some other pros formats. That could be a little bit more efficient. Like four to lt. Like i've i've record and all this stuff so i don't know exactly how it's going to be implemented here but it would make sense if you're if you imagine yourself recording a lot of pro video that you wouldn't want a one twenty eight anyway. They don't file sizes. They don't mention it here on the site. I i know that's the only thing or at least on the buying options here. You might hope that it was a little more transparent on a front but But you probably won't even more storage. You probably go. If you're into that kind of thing you probably go on the five twelve or the one terabyte. Yeah if you really imagine yourself producing in enormous number of progress files or shooting in that frequently than yeah not a huge deal for. I think the only reason it's become an article is just because of transparency and like. Hey you didn't say the event or you say it on the website when you're about to order it so presumably if somebody were to want to utilize feature but not really do the math. Go ahead and make the order iphone. Thirteen pro and thirty promo video recording in the camera app at ten ep thirty. Fbi one hundred twenty eight and up to four So you can shoot ten. Eighty p pro res- which no one would want to do that in two thousand twenty one but if you wanna shoot four k. Pro res- then you need to fifty six five twelve and one terabyte options so this is obviously listed somewhere on their side. But i guess some people want it represented just a little bit more. Well yeah le- they curate though if they advertise that you can now shoot four k. on your iphone. Thirteen pro pro. Max then you know a guy like me goes and orders the one twenty eight and then all of a sudden i'm hanging own. Oh you want to show off your pal. Yeah yeah look. I'm shooting four k. Pro res- and then you go to click the button and you don't and like you suck because he bought the one twenty eight cheapskate. You don't wanna be that guy right. Yeah i'll be little bit. You know i'd feel ripped off at that point if i did and yeah i would. I probably wouldn't do the research but that's not the you know the type of situation i mean i'm not going for that anyway. All you do is be watching. Lou later reading macrumors this type of thing. That's true that's a good point. I want to go down like that. Well maybe they'll make some changes. Maybe we'll get the feedback. Maybe the put a disclaimer. If you're listening apple you should probably make your age. It would take much time listening. He's our number one fan please into the camera. That's your camera right there. Well i'm just saying it's a quick facts straight to tim. That camera right there to tim tim. You should make that change and add the disclosure disclosure or disclaimer disclaimer. Story right on the order page. You should you should..

"Off today. So apple fans finally got what you were looking for. Apple finally showed off for the first time. The iphone thirteen on tuesday. Apple introduced the next version of its popular smartphone. One of several device announcements made during a virtual event at its headquarters in cupertino. California iphone wasn't the only device they revealed on tuesday. We also got to look at a new revamped entry level ipad. This is the one that starts at three twenty nine. There was also an updated version of the ipad mini which is a name that a lot of us probably haven't heard from in quite a while and we got the new apple watch series seven which has a bigger display and some other little touches as well. So here's how we're going to break it down. We're going to focus today's episode on iphone. Thirteen then tomorrow. We're going to focus more on the apple watch and the new ipads so let's start with some of the nuts and bolts around iphone thirteen. There's going to be four versions of this. You've got the standard model which has a six point one inch display. You have the mini model. Which comes back from last year. That's got a five point four inch screen. And they're of course are the pro and the pro max models which have the much larger screens of the pro should have a six point. One inch display and the pro. Max has about a six point. Seven inch display. All for these devices will be available to preorder on friday september seventeenth and the launch one week later on september twenty fourth now price-wise the iphone thirteenth starts at six ninety nine for the mini. Going all the way up to the pro. Max which starts at ten ninety nine if you're looking at the totality of all the iphones at apple offers is a pretty wide range of selection that you have there You have the se which starts at three ninety nine. They're still going to have the eleven in the twelve which are much cheaper than the thirteen. And then you work your way up to the thirteen at six ninety nine and then the pro at ninety nine so really i mean. There's there's a lot of different options there depending on the type of iphone. They you're looking for. We're gonna talk about that a lot more in the coming days. So what does the six ninety nine ninety nine. What does all that money. Get you in the iphone. Thirteen Obviously one of the big things is you get some new colors. Now you get read you get this new color called starlight which is kind of a whitish color you also have midnight which is kind of their version of black and then you also have blue and pink i feel like with iphone. Thirteen a lot of these upgrades are more. Subtle there really. Isn't that one feature.

I went from that phone to blackberry to one of the early galaxy s models. Back to another iphone back to back that before you to before anybody cared what. I was up to people. Barely care at this point. But you see what i'm saying you're will so god look how cheap that would wall on contract. Sign away your life one nine but still yeah definitely not what we're dealing with these days. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the design of the pixel being so different and the new iphone being so similar to the previous generation as well. It just feels more newness. And i haven't picks on a while but whatever either way. How much does it really matter which way you travel at this four narrowed. It doesn't why were you so surprised would drop in the waterfall. Where are the superstitious with that number. I i keep saying. It's a superstitious number. But i don't know where like its origins like you can't have. "It listeners. it's brought molina. welcome back to talking tech my co host. Mike snyder is off today. So tell me if this sounds familiar. You have an iphone or an ipad you pop into your settings and you notice that little red number one that pops up and you go and you see software update and it's your iphone or ipad telling you you need to update your device but you decided you know what i'm gonna do it later You might wanna consider next time you find yourself in that situation update as soon as you can. Apple recently rolled out. Ios fourteen dot seven dot one. Which is the latest version of its operating system for iphones. there's also one for ipad. os as well which is also named ipad s. fourteen dot seven dot one. Now when you first look at. It doesn't seem like that. Big update in the case of iphones. It fixes an issue where models with touch. Id can't unlock appeared apple. Watch when you use the unlock with iphone feature. There is however a very important security update. Here apple says. They found an issue tied to memory corruption. And what happens is this issue could lead to a situation where an application could quote maybe able to execute arbitrary code with colonel privileges. So what exactly does that mean Texts life hacker had a really good explanation of this. What this issue can lead to. Is it quote allows malicious apps installed on the device to gain elevated privileges in execute arbitrary code attacks and quote which is not good. If you're an iphone owner so what makes us a big deal is apple noted in its security update that this issue has been actively exploited which means that it has been used at some point or other. So it's important as always keep those phones and ipads updated. Apple says that this update is available for the following devices. If you own an iphone successor later if any model the ipad pro if you own an ipad air tour later ipad fifth generation or later i had many four and later or the seventh generation ipod. Touch the process itself again. Very simple you go to settings you hit general then you go to software update. It'll take you to a prompt where he can hit download and install and go from there..

Right you on the iphone upgrade program. I am i am not i. I was but i. Because i on verizon through my son's workplace it's not allowed so i had to pay for it out is a stylish 'em joe if the iphone comes early compared to last you. What do you think's going to happen to your last payments apple. Wait this has happened before this has happened before. Where they they've technically. I mean i don't know if it's like that much longer before. But they'll they'll generally say yet. Yeah you can just. You can just upgrade now the because they want you to upgrade. Now i've been iphone person that the last time it was less than a year. They definitely let people upgrade on on early stay. I think exactly how it worked with the money. I feel like the way they did. It was the I think this was going from iphone. Ten to iphone eleven or no tendency would would've been Because the remember the iphone ten action out launched late october like a month not even a month later but then the the the tennis launched in september of the following year like it normally would and so you had it was an eleven months cycle instead of twelve and i think just get get it just. We want to get it. What don't you people understand. We'd rather have some money than all of. Yeah because i. I was on the upgrade program. At that time. I did do exactly. I had the ten. "Absolutely a usb connector smart connector as wealth. Ninety five. mac reportedly this week. That's going to be slow. Possibly joe would you. Hans fit in a magic keyboard for ipod mini. Yeah i've used a mini keyboard. But i have small than you guys won't be a magic keyboard. Ipod mini in the works. Because there's a smart connected. I think we've also had the. There's going to be like a special apple pencil. The ipod mini done if that were josh alter this this the current apple pencil even if they were to even if they had if they like bumped up the size of the mini chassis. A little town. It's i think it would run into the end of the buttons. It's not to it like if you were to move if you were to move the the volume buttons to the other non charging side. It wouldn't be a problem however that would be a problem for ipad cases. Because you wouldn't be able to reach the buttons in the case not in a folio case. That wouldn't work but yeah the ipod and the other thing that makes about the minis allegedly have an eight fifteen chip like the iphone thirteen. I imagine it will come after the iphones team but like but a lot of power and that's like put a rocket ship and a toaster like well what you've got to understand about. The ipad mini and the ipad. Air is that they have been since. I wanna say twenty thirteen but it might be twenty fourteen. They have been essentially power matched is. They've had the same process net now. Obviously we could be a. What i'm saying here is that we could also be looking at a an ipad. Air revision this year with an eight fifteen but they've always had like you know the same fairly up to date processor and if you'll remember the ipad air launched with the a fourteen even before the iphone twelve series was announced. Yeah see how the the. The ipod mini six shaping up to be a pretty impressive. Yes sorry yeah just like the i was. I think last year when they they made those changes. Oh yeah there's a there's fourteen. Aaa oh my goodness and i feel like a lot of people who write with the apple pencil. This could be sort of the perfect digital notebook. I would imagine you. "And now it's between september on november. Which i'm sure. Marc knows more than that. But that's more of an educated guess like i probably could've told you between september november like it wasn't going to be december and we knew it. Was you know no products before september. So i was gonna say this is not an air pods max launch. This is a a mainline set product. They're going to release the The laptops right after the back to school sales and of course they do. It's a great way to clear the inventory. Clear the decks right. Do you think they'll follow the same Configurations last year. What was the iphone in september. Sir no no no. It was an ipad. Air in september. Iphone will so obviously won't follow that configuration but you think that september and october and november. So here's what. I'm wondering is what i feel like a couple of weeks ago. There was a rumor that they launched them all at the same event. Which bonanza yeah. That's pretty cool. That'd be fun. I only just and then. Just a just a smorgasbord of news and devices. Planning but yeah it's a it's a more specific launch window which is september november starts twelve weeks of. Yeah i definitely. Don't i definitely don't think they'll release them all at the same time. I feel like even if they announced the macbooks those are like a and they're coming next month thing war and they'll focus more on the iphone and apple. Watch those release. I think the way apple did it last year with the lots of events that you know very kind of short fun. Just a couple of products have very focused. I think that went really well. I think without having you know a big in person event see why they wouldn't do them and don't have to have a hands on section. Yep exactly yeah. I mean if if they're not doing it in person as seems like they might as well have separate smaller events it just it prolongs the excitement and she they dump everything at once. Everyone is like going crazy for week and then everybody kind of forgets about it. But if they're you know every every month or so. Having another event in only product release it's kind of keeps excitement level high these These mike books going to be the bee's knees by the way like the awful silicon hounds crazy bringing st cod slow she. Mike safe is apparently making a comeback design so like the curved edge. Poor safe everything is is on its way out. Yeah i think it could be already big. Yeah that'd be wild. And instead of the mac save charger. It's just this giant slot in the side of the slide. A like an iphone charger into like a puck puck whole. Yeah i did see. I saw like a funny like concept me of someone like mac saves coming back to the mike book and it was. Just the iphone puck over the Over the apple logo on the back of the charges. It fifteen watts. But it's back book partly. We're supposed to thirty already. Have these but it was supposed to be announced earlier. They've been held up of the many. Led display. That doesn't surprise us. Yeah which seems to be the pa- vaden theme of all mini-league default time has just production delay so production and a lot of different tack areas. This is very interesting. Which is i mean. I. it's wild to me many. Led for all time and then we've got these rumors of no the next ipad pros going to have an let display. Yep yep we're just going to cut that loose. After a year a generation maybe maybe all the production delays. Maybe apples decided. It's more hassle than it's worth under while. Oh let itself on a tablet sized device..

"Now there we got it technically exists. Yeah yeah it was. They didn't even announce it. Maybe that again in the next iphone. It'll be it's wild. Do i have now i. I was actually 'cause that's something i haven't actually checked in the last couple of days yet. I haven't tried the reverse charging. And i was looking to see if i had occasion front of me where i couldn't i count y- you can charge your app called Count you think so but actually let me let me check that. Because my dad's a wireless air or yeah wireless air pods charger completely. Not even plugged in that is. That's that's why. I didn't even figure you'd be able to do that but it's something something's talk about like you said i think is the let's though i think for the i think next time apple should have one. That really does just okay like this it. Basically it covers the attendant portion of the back of the iphone to of many. Let's make it so it just comes up. It has just a little bit extra better. That comes up here and it's just a little knob and the rest of the iphone round the round the camera house. Yeah could make that way that way. We once the the many phones are gone. We can remember them forever by the yet by the battery. Pack breath so low memorial man. All right let's move on because we've got some it's you know it's the summer rumor season truly because we have some more reports this week about what we're gonna this fall probably see this fall. Actually you know what seeing out in our in our show notes that actual thing. That definitely happened that i wanna talk about a little bit. I is say. Ted lonzo ted lasso when all cast and i want to watch the show notes. We've got to talk about ten right. Yeah no we're going to. We're going to push the rumors back just very slightly in. We're going to talk a little. Bit about ted lasso. Because season two premiere was well for me. It was this morning out thirty minutes ago literally finished it right before the show. It's good. it's so good. I miss this show One of the things that. I'm learning from the internet though from twitter is that a lot of people were not paying attention to how apple releases its shows relate with. People surprised only one episode lot of complaints that it wasn't a binge to which i say. Ha i i am. We knew that we knew that us. We thought we knew that. Apparently less time i think there was three episodes. I yeah but also one of the things that you probably that you've got to remember. Is that a lot of people. Probably got into the show after it was. Yeah exactly like descent. Like november december. People get used to benching and they want bench. The and i'm not going to say that they're wrong for wanting that but i'm also not going to say for wanting you're wrong when i grew up with you had to watch tv when it was on and if you missed it you missed it to even. I'm old enough to remember those days. He had three channels all. Tv's were like twelve inches. Was that a little set a little after your time. Bigger than than twelve inch. Tv's but but i. i had cable. And i it depends on what part of my childhood because part of my childhood was spent overseas. When i had zero or one channel's yeah a large my childhood so i hadn't even less than most an. I grew up the same way that you had. I mean i think we've probably had a lot more channels in my childhood but still you had to tape things if you wanted to watch things again immediately yet to tape them. Vcr i didn't have a vcr. I don't remember having vcr. Maybe maybe my senior but definitely not not before that but yeah. It's just so interesting so many people we've gotten used to the bench model and what is fascinating to me of. All the big players will include apple. Tv plus as a big player for the purposes of this discussion at least but net of all the big players net flicks is really the one. That's hanging onto benching yeah Because hulu releases who who generally does the thing where they release like three episodes and then the rest of them are weekly Like a little bit. I do like a little mini binge. So if we had like episode one and two today for ted lhasa. That wouldn't have been bad. But i like the i mean there's definitely something to be said for spreading out. It certainly depends on the show like the tick loss. For example a loss was i call lost the last show before binging lost was my life for seven years like you understand. I lifted. I would watch an episode. I would immediately go online and there was like this chat room that i love. It was called television without pity. Thinks existing are you there. I would be on there for hours after the show discussing every nuance of the episode. And like all week. I would be checking back in the chat room and seeing like if anybody could come up with new theories and i mean it was it like i. I feel like. I've really lived in that place for seven years and now people life. The most people won't even try to budget if they missed it. They're like oh it's too many episodes forget it. I'm never watched that. And if they do try a lot of them can't get through it they're like it's just too much and a lot of some people that did get through are just like it was okay like the us. You didn't do it right. you didn't do it. You didn't have so you didn't have the the the season three. Hell avis where it was the first six episodes and then six months until episode seven. And i swear. There was over a year between seasons outset. Set some between season five and six. I think between the the second last and last season there was there was a big app. It was like just the sweets torture or the screaming get serenely white and then for the first time ever we had a dark loss title and then we waited over a year for it to get your right. Game of thrones with closest to that experience. I've had since then was definitely game of thrones because they parcel out the episodes the differences that people a lot of people did not watch game of thrones at real time. So you still couldn't talk about it because there was always somebody in the crowd that hadn't seen that episode yet and you didn't want to spoil. It has to be careful spoiler when it was lost. Like i don't even remember what time it Everybody watched it when it was live on. Tv everybody worrying about spoilers. You're right now. There are so many shows you can benched like we can have a couple of and i like the you know. Fridays ted loss. O'day i wonder what's gonna happen next week as the anticipation and the build up and stuff and and yet joe like you said the first season it came went. Now you can binge it if you really don't wanna wait around. Just wait until it's all ten episodes the season again. I think i think it's still think it's ten episodes. Wait ten weeks and but like from a business standpoint like it. It's it's clearly you guys saw today. Apple like the apple online store was just exclusively lasso. There wasn't a single apple products on the pages just blue kind of makes a comeback ted lassos face streaming here like for apple to like to to cover up. Its website like that. Like they know that they're onto a winner and it's far and away like the most popular show the channel on on the i. I felt like when apple. Tv plus was first introduced in the morning. Show is supposed to be like the big flagship series on religion. Hong kong And yeah and they have all these big budget shows and then tomaso just snuck in. I don't think apple expected that to be their big hit and it just caught on fire them commercials for nbc sports. No i don't think anyone would have a crazy idea. But now they know they're they're milking it for all. It's worth and good for them. Actually i just think ted loss was just the right show at the right time People i it was just it came out like towards the end of the pandemic Feel good when we feel..

"I'll i'll take news any doubt. It does go with the iphone twelve. It also will go just as well as the next model. so yeah. yeah it's like. This is going to become obsolete into months brand that would have been. That would not made any sense if it was. I think the fact that it's not like single. Use the facts that you can use it. Like we've said as a safe puck by charging you'll phone through the battery or reverse by charging the battery three or phone like Is just a little more convenient. Did you guys see the thing. Parker also lonnie did on twitter wearing like the iphone lightning dock and then on top of it. It's basically now. I say it's like a magnetic iphone doc but you can pop your phone on an awful of will and if it's in and if it's in the lightning doc or yeah if if the battery pack is attached lightning docket should charge at fifteen watts yet there is. I don't think you'd wanna perpetually leave your juices flowing through the battery pack. It would probably shorten the lifespan. A little bit but yeah i thought it was really really neat. It was them. Yeah just a cool puppet on that and my is i think in especially good trick if you know. You're headed out later in the day. Like right after work. You're gonna you're you'll pop so you'll pop your phone off the dock but you'll have the battery on it so you're good to go even the fact that you can charge them both. At the same time i hadn't thought about how convenient that would be Can you do that with the other ones. I'm doing battery charge charging the battery ex. Yeah all the will. I guess number reverse charging doesn't work. Hey reverse charging exists on the iphone. How about which one knocks. But it's there. Yes someone someone i feel like someone somewhere is just trying to get people to pay up on a bet..

"Seems right One of the things that really strikes me about this. This is not the device that you use if you need like a lot of power quickly you this is something i imagine. That apple feels like this is something you take along with you and then you clip to the back of your phone if you need if you have a little battery battery anxiety just to get you kind of over the the hump at the end of the day. Almost it just if you needed now an hour or two but yeah you're right. It's not something fast chargers we've sadden. No the capacity monstrous that you would you know it's not going to double your usage giora. Yeah at the same time it's gonna it. Yeah it's going to keep your battery it's gonna keep your iphones battery. Basically it's going to keep your iphones better from sinking lower and actually Charged up a little bit but it isn't a. Oh wow. I have so much power now. It's not like which i think. The battery the old batter smart battery cases were kind of that. An to an extent is that the they did a great job of charging a little faster but then again they were also lightning based. They didn't do wireless charging that speaking of cases. It doesn't work with the mac safe case. Yes it does it. Does work has non save case a good question. I don't have ideal excessive case. It might depend on the thickness. I think yeah some some accessory makers would you like if the cases one mill too thick you. You'd be okay. Anything in and if the if the standard maxine charger works with works with your case than this will i do have cases that are non mag safe and the safe charger does work with it. Just fine but it doesn't stick magnetic out. Yeah yeah yeah the big thing. It's very expensive. like yeah. Hundred dollars is a lot full. Yes this is true. Am don't know i'm just seems like a law for phenomenal. Like i think. I'm gonna take a pass on that one. Don't get me wrong. I like it and it works. Really well for is what i would need it for. It's just for most people. I would think probably anchor anchor battery because it doesn't really depend on the magnetic. Yeah yeah it does it. Doesn't it doesn't really depend on the size of your phone. The anchor one. I don't think. I don't think that is bigger than the iphone. Twelve mini no. I don't think over it's Considerably like it's a bit thick of five thousand million capacity molly. I'm howard plus if i'm reading christine few right which is also five thousand three times more. Just yeah yes that. that's yeah. That's that's why. I mean that's why i would say kind of seems to me. It's a bit like the mike. So wallet which. I haven't reviewed unlike i loved it and it's a beautifully might products in very cool and stylish. Obviously it comes with the apple brandon but like it sounds like a tough sell to be on. I would say on. Its own like just thinking of this on its own. It's fine but compared to other batteries of products you're to keep it joe Yeah actually i do i don. I don't now that i have it. I don't really have a desire for. I have a lot of need for an external battery. And this one. I mean it's integrated What the software. And it's easy enough to slap on the phone. So i i will say that. I'm glad apple made the choice to do. A standalone battery rather than a battery case is so case is so phone. Specific were mad. I mean you'll have that battery until you know until it doesn't matter anymore with an iphone thirteen minutes and use that with iphone fourteen and fifteen and so and the fact that you have more than what i mean..

"iphone" Discussed on The WAN Show Podcast

"Two iphone. Prototypes allegedly allegedly passing internal durability tests at apple. This is pretty exciting. So this is according to taiwanese website economic daily news and according to them tests of an apple designed folding hinge system for two different. Iphones were reportedly recently completed at the foxconn factory in shenzhen china. Would do you think that would mean if it's two different iphones. Do you think that would mean the high end low end of their entire next launch. No i think that would be two different sizes of probably a completely new utterly unique skill. <hes> interesting okay and that would be something that even even two years ago. I probably wouldn't have predicted. But if you look at apple's friend over the last three to five years i mean. Do you remember when the iphone was the iphone and apple silly branding where they don't call it an iphone or the iphone. They just call it iphone. You remember when that actually made sense because there was only one iphone. Well that's been dead forever like her lineup. Let's let's pull this up. Let's let's pull this up ladies and gentlemen apple. The apple dot com. Okay wait yes. It was something i was going to screen share. Okay where is it if it was the shroud thing okay. It doesn't matter the point. Is those pull up. Apple dot com so under iphone. You've got iphone. Twelve pro two different sizes iphone twelve two different sizes iphone se. I eleven iphone. Ten are and then you've got this this compare feature so you've gotta you've gotta compare feature because there's so many iphones you need a feature specifically to figure out which how much iphone is enough for you and be clear. I'm not saying that it's a terrible idea or anything to have you know of lots of iphones available for your customers. I'm just saying that. That wasn't apples. Traditional approach with the iphone. The idea was that when you bought an iphone you were getting this this curated this validated experience way. It was something to do with the model y video. I think it doesn't matter over. I'm over it so what's happening. Then is that from lake from whether it's from a developer perspective or a user perspective. The iphone is changing. Currently you can get iphones with all kinds of different sizes all kinds of different capabilities. I mean it wasn't that long ago that you could still get actually no. You can still get an iphone with a touch touch. Id home button like that is. That is a fundamentally very different experience compared to the current paradigm which is motion and excuse me motion. Just your control and using face. Id so two. Three years ago. I would have said no. There's no way that apple that if there's that if there's no way they're going to bring out like a completely separate model of folding iphone now i'm looking at it going. There's no way that they don't because apple if anything has shown themselves to be extremely conservative about forcing their users to change unless they've offered a compelling upgrade option so for example the iphone se still kicking around for people who want touch id and who want a physical button iphone. Twelve mini is something that they finally brought out to address the need free from users for a smaller one. Hannibal iphone and they're very tactical about the way that they do these things they will. They will wait three to four years which they know is a reasonable upgrade cycle for like a non enthusiast. And then they'll go okay. Have we managed to get these guys to upgrade. No all right okay all right. Let's do it. Let's do it. Let's let's continue. Let's continue to support this segment of our customer base. So there's no way that they're just going to bring in a folding iphone and replace the iphone pro. I i don't. I don't buy it but then again i would have also said there's no way they're just going to completely remove touch. Id and say okay. It has to face idea you want high end. You wanna new iphone iphone. That's it you're done. You're out so i kind of talked myself out of it. Maybe maybe the iphone folding iphone fold or whatever they end up calling definitely won't call it that because galaxy full got to come up with a new name. So maybe yeah. Maybe the i fold will replace high end but i i don't know man. It was a yeah. I'm kind of on each side because they don't normally introduce a feature this big without making a sweeping change but they have also been trending in the direction of more phones and more large feature differences between the phone. So i could see them going in either direction.
