And we're worried so we just went ahead and reported him missing to police. So you're probably going to be getting a call just like f. Why heather immediately gets james on the phone. He's like okay. What the heck is going on. Start from the top. Tell me what happened the that maybe she can just help. Take the temperature down. A couple of notches like problem. Solve this mom style. Am so they decided to all head down the hill and off the resort to this like little get together that they heard was going on. This was happening at a house. That was just around the corner from where james and ryan lived anyway so they figured like okay. We're gonna head down there. Maybe have another drink and then we'll just go home. They ended up catching a lift down from the bar to the bottom of the hill and then they were walking the rest of the way to the house party and listen to me. This whole trip took like ten minutes tops by one thirty. Though james was ready to go home he tells heather that he saw ryan stand up and he thought that he was right behind him. In a couple of other people who had left the same time but somewhere during their walk home i guess they looked around and realized he wasn't

Deaths spiral: Americas spike in murders

"With the attention of the world media focused on the pandemic last year. it may have seemed as if there were fewer of the mass shootings for which america has become notorious this year. Lamentably there's no mistaking the trend on march sixteenth gunman in atlanta apparently targeted asian-americans. Grisly new details tonight. The atlanta spa shootings tax three massage parlours. In the northern suburbs of the city eight people were murdered. Roughly one hour six of them. Asian women days later ten more deaths at a supermarket in colorado shooting house claimed at multiple lives as the police put it in boulder. We had a very tragic incident today. Here at the king supers There was loss of life second mass shooting with multiple deaths and just one week in this country. Three killed at a house party gone wrong. North carolina six members of the same family in texas a mother and her two children shot by a man who then took his own life in new york. Those murders just in the first week of this month. The pandemic has led to reductions in many types of crime but in america murders seem only to be on the rise. The greatest rise in perhaps half a century twenty twenty was a traumatic year for america. Not only was there the covid nineteen pandemic which at this point is killed. Five hundred fifty thousand people but there was a huge uproar over racial justice in the wake of the deaths of unarmed. Black man in police custody that swept through the country in june injuries. Aus Open Day 6 - Silent, subdued, but intriguing

"Think today day six over the twenty twenty one australian open the first fully crowd list day. I think today was the new year's eve house party that you feel you have to gauge new year's eve show up. You do the rounds for a couple of hours and then you sneak off to a bedroom and go to sleep or it's just the hangover the day after we sit there and just drink cups of tea and no answer any calls the hanger day off to the the banging nights out the ends in where you're just gonna sort of pick up pieces and clear mass. Yes i came. That may be works better. And wait for your next party in a day's time it's the regroup day. It's fresh as week when you when in my case you have one thing and you're saying that's it you can just have a normal week and then you gotta do again the next night but so what you do. Is you just insert little arrests days. Yeah don't understand human beings. The enjoyed fresh week genuinely look back and say i enjoyed freshers week. I didn't understand human level so they walk among us. Catherine apparently say it's not but i didn't enjoy today i just dino it it just i mean there were no crowds. We need the. We're going to be crowds that that was a shame How how much. How much was the fact that there were no quarrel to contributing factor. To the fact that today was a was a bit of a dump squib. I mean this has been the dump squib hof of proceedings burnett. We've we've we've made to conceal that on the podcast. You know there have been highlights will will big those up as best we can on today's pod but how. How much was it the crowd. I think it was definitely parts of it in that. You know we're all. I did feel a bit of a downer just because yesterday was so exhilarating and and it has been such a lovely failing to have crowd noise again. Because we've we've been went out and delivered this last week so that that was in the back of mind. I mean there were moments. I compensated in the way that i would've done with the crowd and then there was silence and i had to say oh i forgot. There's nobody here quite open because it's you might as well just be honest and admit it's weird. It is weird at the same time. I feel like for people like us certainly me anyway. I shouldn't speak few too. But i just i'm so i love watching sport so much when it's when it's tied and when the stakes are high the not having the crowd gives me something else and we. We definitely tapped into that at the us open and through some of the other events because kind of we. We didn't have any choice. It's either embrace that or be down about it all and if you actually listen and watch especially today as this was the first match i've ever seen of nadal at a grand slam. We had the two but at a grand slam especially with the little question marks about the back and all that sort of thing and being being pushed as hard as come pasha possibly push him. I loved just watching dow compete in this role style without any cut-away as to the crowd or anything just so pule to be out to. I felt like a like a sneaked into private match and could just watch. And and so i got something from that and i was intrigued by some of the matches exhilerated. Not really and it is. It is more pure than other slam tennis or any tennis that we've seen without crowds because they weren't prepared for this. There's no attempt to conceal the empty seats. There's no crowd noise track on standby it is exposed before your eyes and is

Chinese New Year festivities kick off under shadow of coronavirus in New Orleans

"Orleans emerged as an early cove in 19 hot spot after Carnival celebration served as super spreader events. Despite this year's new restrictions, the city is still welcoming tourists and that's led to push back from locals offer you House of member station W. W. N o reports. Orleanians typically spend the weeks between epiphany and fat Tuesday, eating, drinking and partying. Last year's festivities drew more than a million visitors in a recent study found the gatherings resulted in nearly 50,000 Corona virus infections. This year there no parades, and many locals have pledged to sit the season out. But that hasn't stopped people from flocking to Bourbon Street, but he was have circulated of largely unmasked crowds clutching to go drinks and dancing. Despite admonishments from the city, people are still breaking the rules. On Saturday afternoon. About half of the people in the cities French quarter were unmasked, openly defying the city's mandate. Revelers stopped to catch Mardi Gras beads thrown from balconies and one middle aged woman lost her mask in the process. It fell to the ground and she didn't pick it up. Seems like these horrifying Matt Maloney, a 24 year old cook. Well, Mardi Gras is known as a season of fun. She's usually stuck working. Sometimes it's nice. You get off of a 13 hour shift, and you go catch the end of the parade and have a drink with your co workers or whatever. But now, I mean, most of us are gonna be running for the hills because we don't want to have a further risk of catching Cove it right In January, she was exposed to the coronavirus of work. It took two weeks off without pay to quarantine. Loney says she wants the city to do more to protect hospitality workers. Here's New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell know that when it comes to our health and our people, especially our hospitality workforce. I'd rather be accused of doing too much. Been doing too little. She's already announced new restrictions for Mardi Gras weekend in response to recent large gatherings in the French Quarter. Starting today through Mardi Gras Day on Tuesday, all bars will be closed citywide. Tourist heavy areas will have police checkpoints to prevent crowding and the Claiborne Corridor, a local gathering spot will be fenced off. City relies heavily on tourism in a typical year, sales and property taxes account for more than 40% of its operating budget. Now, most of that money is gone. We estimate we're still losing about About 120 to $130 million a week. That's Stephen Perry of New Orleans and Company, a tourism organization that serves the marketing agency for the city. Before this new wave of restrictions business had been hoping for a Mardi Gras bump. For much of the pandemic. Hotel occupancy has been in the single digits during last year's Mardi Gras festivities. It was above 90%. Harry says local restaurants and hotels are exceedingly safe. And the best way to protect businesses is to let them stay open. If you shut them down, you're talking about the abject failure of hundreds. Of small business people and their inability ever To reopen well. Some of the crowds on Bourbon Street have been locals or college students will sudden says tourists are big part of the problem. Sudden is a New Orleans native and a columnist for the local paper. He says city leaders should tell everyone to stay home for Mardi Gras. It's like Having a House party. If you have a house party, it's your party. And if it's your party, you decide who gets to come. We like seeing people come and have a good time at our party but wants to have a party and have a bunch of people get sick, sudden says he's pleased with the new restrictions and hopes people stay home so they could celebrate next year. "All right let's start the show. We have a game developer with today. Introducing the CEO and founder. Of each. Games Bobby Richie is with us today. How're you doing Bobbie? Good thanks for having me. No problem at Bobby is the main developer of the Popular Game House Party And so Babi. We're going to get to know you a little bit more before we start talking about House party so we're just GonNa ask you some general questions and then we'll get right into the house party questions in Kind of get to know the develop a little bit more so sweet all right so I guess we're going to start off All all break it off real quick I'm going to ask you question here I I've always wanted to know where you came up with the name. Eek Games is Kinda funny. Actually take kind of an interesting story. I guess I was. I'm a musician. Also and one of my old was actually a record company and it was EEK records and I was kind of It's funny because when I ige records too I just I was trying to think of like some weird like some acronym like something something encompassing electronic new age kind of like Because I use a lot of newer technology in plug INS when back when when they were just getting popular and I just I just couldn't think could acronym but acronym but I ended up thinking like each sounds good even even though I didn't actually have an acronym for IT I. I just decided to do with exclamation so then when I when I started writing a video game I needed a video game company. Name sounds like eakins. Why not very cool. That is awesome man so it started off originally as a as a record label or company will. The Gaming Company did but but I tend to name all of my company's EEK cool awesome all right cool corporation. Yeah okay all right so and my other question I had for. You is before you started programming House party. Did you program anything else before House Party? Yeah so I mean. I degree in computer science and strangely psychology as well and I've always been interested in in game development. I mean I was always a huge game growing up so and it was and I was a programmer so naturally like I mean what program doesn't want to be a game developer when they when they grow up so you know so I I used to dabble in in computer games for a long time. My first attempt at it actually was this demolition. Derby game that I released on facebook and it was like this is really like it was called a crash. Derby and I kinda I teamed up with a three D. MODEL. Who did like the cars and we made them like so that they could you know break up and get busted up and you know trunks could fly off. Hood's could fly off thing doors could fly off things like that and then eventually Piece it together into a game and You could go on there and you could upgrade your car and do things on all through facebook. Does it was pretty cool But yeah it was It was They'll Dell's my first foray into into writing a game. And then when I when I came into House party I just I actually was was trying to write a character engine that I that I was thinking about selling on unity the unity asset store but it ended up being that you know. I really liked what I was doing and I thought hey I want I want to kind of use this And then I then. I kind of conceptualize house party from their awesome. That's really cool. Sweet are moving onto other general questions. Joe Do you have any general questions for Bobby Yeah I was GonNa say what or ask a what games actually inspired you as a Gamer to make that decision Yeah well I mean I mean. I was writing a character engine so I wanted to do something with characters I would say the biggest influences that I pulled from in House party would probably be the SIMS. Gt A I. We say it's like a cross between the simpsons. You Jake is that is that kind of first person thing and is sandbox. Gte But it's kind of like the Sims of the A is very modeled off of the Sims. The way that you know. They're very autonomous. And they do their own thing. And they have their own storylines and they have they have moods and personalities and they'll respond differently depending on how you know how how you work your relationship with them so um so. I've kind of always Pulled off. I would say those two games as a major influence awesome I guess to go along with that I know you said that. You're you're a Gamer. I or were you a Gamer. I or program for so I guess the question is. Did you play before programming or after poor program? Definitely before I was a Gamer I- I started out on Atari and you know and and I was huge into Nintendo and has a kid Than you know than Super Nintendo et Cetera And then I got into PC gaming. When I was kind of like in my my early to mid teens you know and I played played. A ton of world of warcraft You know obviously. Gte In the SIMS. You know that you games that inspired you don't kind of inspired House Party Of Yeah I mean definitely. Definitely Huge Gamer. Always always kind of into computers in one way or another wasn't always programming. But but I but I did do a lot of programming. I did go to school for programming so but gained developments very very different so it was as kind of a learning experience but But yeah definitely into games. I and then then you know that I started when when I started learning program and whatnot I I always thought he may be colorized. Games may and so. That's so bobby we've talked about games that you that influenced you and whatnot There's always got to be a work life. Balance Right so Your development but what games do you play when you're off the clock not working and it's for pure leisure. What are you playing right now? I'm huge into her stone right now particularly since they released the battlegrounds That's that's my kind of like wind down. Relax game you know usually usually right before. I'm ready to conch out go to sleep. I'll be like let me let me bring off intersection on and I've actually been starting to get into a It's crazy to believe like you know writing a game leaves very little time to actually play games. But I'm in the early mornings because I'm kind of an early riser. So I've been kind of trying to trying to work my way through the final fantasy seven. I'll remake fan when I was a kid I have played them out from you. Know from the first one all the way through so So yeah so those are those are probably my to go. Choose right now Just state of the world question with everything going on right. Now what have you been doing while in quarantine if you have been in quarantine or feeling locked away at home working remote whatever that means for your life? Well we're actually a completely remote company. I work from home normally only plays work from home so not not a whole lot. Changed on that front But my weekends I would usually go out with my wife and whatnot but now it's kind of like you know harder to get get out places aren't hoping not so we've just been kind of chilling by the pool our social distance and thing and Getting a lot of takeout goes to say with all of us different than the next guy and then I have one more as far as general questions so Just curious how you discovered our podcast. Or how you what encouraged to reach out to have. This interview was actually Jordan. Who reach out. I guess he's a fan of the guys and he thought that I'd be a good fit. And we worked with him and so he was usually really excited to make the connection with us so I and I and I got to check out actually shortly before this interview actually because You know Jordan Onto awesome. That is really cool so definitely. Do we have any more general's job? Do you have any generals for bobby before we move onto no okay. So we're going to move right onto a more of like some some game industry questions and then after that will jump right into. House party question so For the game industry questions Miguel. Did you have a couple for him? Yeah I'm a couple of questions so Just IN DEVELOPMENT IN GENERAL. How do you organize? And how do you plan projects out for game development? Well I mean so. I don't know if you're familiar. There's a there's a method called scrum. It's an agile development system and that's what we use internally any games but originally when I started the game it was I mean I I did. I wrote the game pretty much on my own for the first couple years. So there wasn't really any rhyme or reason or development schedule or anything just kind of you know. Whenever I had a spare moment I would sit down and and be like. Hey I'm working on my game you know but then when I You know when it started blowing up I started. You know hiring on I immediately adapted the method just because I had in other companies that implemented scrawny and I liked it and it it just it just seemed like a good fit so we kinda implemented that from early on and and we're still learning. I mean you know I. It's you know I feel like it's kind of an odd question. Asked me because I'm kind of just still discovering all of these things you know? We're we're kind of discovering these things as a company I mean we're we're we've got eight in total that make up games now but You know it started out with just a few and and it's grown and we're kind of still stumbling sometimes to find the best balance between you know how to take you know. Take a store in from our writer and give it to the technical implementer and you know he can write the scripts against the game. And then I'm doing the back end programming and We've got you know environmental artists and character artists. And you know just just kind of bring them all together. It's it's not we actually have a guy Jonathan it might our CEO Coo He actually that's his that's his entire job. He makes sure that everything's running day to day so so we actually have a person that is fully dedicated to just you know making sure everybody's in sync with each other making sure everybody's got what they need from everybody else so So yeah I guess that's the secret is just to hire somebody to do that now. That's awesome I have heard of scrum. It's something that was introduced in my workplace as well I haven't really implemented it. There's a team that uses it more so and Let me know if this is the that you guys do. It's more so from what I understand planning like setting aside the beginning part of your week or whatever to plan out everything you're going to accomplish. Is that kind of how you guys operating an inside a set time span so we will say you know. We kind of split up between CHARACTER STORIES BECAUSE HOUSE PARTY. Kinda a I guess..

"Side my friends. It's good to see you on whatever day. You're watching this. We're recording it on Monday. But I'm happy here if I can hear our good friend. Andy is Davis years. Well we welcome to the show Suit tonight you know. We don't have many Good recent fire stories. Unfortunately because we're GONNA bars Spoke we are allowed to hang out and party at our house. So what better time to talk about Awesome House Parties Rights Love? It seemed like a good advocate demanded off my head. I I'm known for having to get one every once in a while. Speaking of House Marty's first. You GotTa have a good house so if you've got a really good house for House Parties Games in his house right now. If everybody doesn't Bath House for House party was but it doesn't I feel like there's the wide angle view. That's this this is. This is the bar that yeah I spent about seven years getting. It's really quick that the fact that you have to angles of your bar makes me really happy because I it's not really two angles of the bar. It's because I brought to cams home and I was setting up all this nonsense to go ahead and run everything so I've got one. That's like the you know the regular and then I'll get the one that's the wide angle shot. And you know that way if if I wanNA throw something up on the TV I can in. Its there and yet. Because I'm I'm a nerd. That's how that works casts from your. I feel I feel like I have a better budget that a lot of the newscasters that are things on the TV behind. You like little stream behind a little news ticker running across the bottom. Hey it's o'clock trump said something else. Dumb what he said street. Bob Walton Spiel. Good stuff anyways I used to live in a place that had a prequel bar that I built. And it did not look like Dave's but that's because we were pretty much horned and have it stocked fully all the time like we barely keep anything in stock because people were over every single night drinking. It was basically like frank as this is why. I don't invite a lot of people over the middle of DOWNTOWN DETROIT. And it's actually you know the connecting story about how. David I live with my buddy pants at this place. My brother outside the place. We're living downtown. Like one of those swanky six hundred fifty square foot just one room loss down that there's like a million cookie cutter version of. Its got the hardwood floors. The little island kitchenette. Kinda think today could be yours for the low low price of seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Yeah I have no idea what they go for now. I lived in in the late ninety s and it was pretty cool. It's pretty when they were like two hundred bucks a month they were very poorly designed. You could hear everything. Your neighbors did because there was nothing but You know to send pieces of drywall. In between you and your neighbors a Lotta Lotta macaroni and cheese as you point out. Now if you have a cool swanky apartment downtown Detroit. It definitely does something for the ladies. They like it anyways. My brother found a place Right over my campus Martius about a block away from campus Martius If you're familiar with that and it was sixty five hundred square foot loft so we were able to spread out and have our rooms and Moved out and skateboard and way for hockey and we had a video game room setup and all kinds of fun stuff but yeah my buddy pants moved in with us and I built the bar and there's a good part. There was the pieces were there. They had We moved into this place for all kinds of junk and trash for people who have lived there before and could never quite completely clean it out or throw everything away. So the first three months we basically Spent CLEANING IT. Up getting electricity to all the different rooms And making it livable. We had to build a bathroom. We had to put in a kitchen saying We eventually got a dishwasher. Like one of those kinds What else do we do that? I was building a dark room for. Photography is for Man It was wild. Actually funny not really funny but like I'll never forget where I was on the morning of nine eleven. I was there. Clean that place out so it was a right around that up money while shiny. Happy more hitting not funny Haha more. Hey this smells funny. Yeah exactly. We're working on the place and getting ready to move in. We had moved in. It wasn't livable and I come outside and my buddies the Anegada Bob in New York City like terrorists attack over the world's going crazy but they're gonNA probably by Detroit next. Let's get out here. We went watch the news and so it was really happening to love the green screen. You'll never forget where you were at certain times of your life. This exception We're we're yeah so I built. This bar is a good twenty five footer with like a curve and we had just all kinds of space so we built it in the front room which is black and white checkered floors. I eventually bought a mop. So thank you welcome. That is such a single guy thing to say. I eventually brought him up eventually about. I bought one of those big industrial kind like that. You would see at any kind of store as well. This is a huge floor. React like really mop. Swiffer is nine months the ones that are like the long like yarn replaceable mop heads. And then the big yellow bucket. Squishy thing you know so you were. Carol Burnett is what you were saying. I had like little sponge. No so you were Carol Burnett at the end of her show was what you were saying. Yes exactly the area where bar was was about. Twenty five hundred square feet just itself so yeah it was not We had some wild raging parties. We had people over drinking just about every single night at least six nights a week. Somebody would stop by 'cause they knew we have this great place and People were kind enough to bring donations. Booz feel free to help themselves to wherever we had a bat. I'm surprised you never you know really designed a good kiddie jar for people to like. Hey you know this money year. We'll keep this place stockton something like that right like the podcast studio you exactly. He's just like have like a little donation box really..

"I'm just like what year is school days coming out because that really speaks to cultural identity in those kind of things that's kind of what Queen latifah's bringing to it. And the way that she's dressing more traditional garb and all this in the way that Sydney is trying to figure herself out, and it's one thing I like about this movie is the idea of going to college and trying to figure out who you are. And that's kind of a nice thing. I don't know if it's one hundred percent successful. But it happens in this in in a again, these characters charming enough that I wanna see the continue inventors of them what they end up doing. I'm like, okay. You know, not. Excited. And you know, I cringe when Iman is unscripted and I'm just like she's a scam artist. Why can't you see that? But Patrick has you seen this one before was this new for you? This was new for me. And it was and it's kind of that thing where this happens, unfortunately with a lot of sequels. I I liked it. Okay. Like, you said I liked the characters and the actors enough that I had an okay time with it. But it is kind of thing where you know. Sometimes when there's a movie that comes out, and it's hey that was surprisingly good that could have been so much worse than instead, they made it something special, and then the sequel comes along, and it's like, oh, this is the movie that the first movie could have been, you know, they they put more care into it. I was excited when rusty Cundy name came up as a writer, I feel like the first house party, if you are talking to somebody you just met, and you, you know, the the movie house party comes up both of you are going to be like, oh man house party. Yeah. That movie's really really cool. I really liked that movie. And how do I feel like it's only cultural? Relevancy is the phrase pajama jammy gem that has carried on to this day. But other than that, I will remember very little about house part two now on the other hand house party three I love house party three. And I think the reason why I love it so much is Bernie MAC because I could give a shit about immature the new bane that they're introducing an I don't know what it was with the nineties and having to have like little kid versions of bans, that's a weird fucking thing. I don't know if it's still goes on today. But like back when like criss cross was happening. I mean, I remember Manute. Oh, of course, you know. It's just like we're going to take little kids and put them into bands and won't that be cute. And so when you have these like really over sexualize, we want to drink and drug and do all this kind of more drinking, I suppose this thing, we're going to take over the party, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, like the image. Parts. I really don't give a shit about that at all. But the parts with Bernie MAC fucking hilarious as soon as he comes on screen, and I think he comes on way too late. But as soon as he comes on he is electrifying and all the parts with him are some of the things that I still quote from today. The the typical scene of the more high class people having dinner with the lower class people and Bernie MAC. Even the name. It was so interesting because. Yeah, this is this came out ninety four and this was around that obviously the criss cross is trying to make their comeback. And now you're getting the groups like TLC, and and that was part of the weird little stretch, another another bad creation was another kid group of the early nineties that was they were actually kind of a rival that crisscross which is really funny that they now it is it is different because I didn't admittedly. I wasn't as big a fan of this one..

"Good. Given play full force tissue Campbell Iman Queen Latifah and Martin Lawrence. It's the slam. It has party ever. House party two. All right. We're back, and we're talking about house party house party, which was very successful. And of course, since that happen. There has to be sequel, and in this case, there should be multiple scene. So you talked about how the felt like kin play were in college. When it came to house party one j and with house to well, I say they are in college. But definitely kid is in college, which is a little bit more fitting with I think he was like twenty seven or so when they were making these movies twenty six twenty seven so fits a little bit better with his age. He's still not college as but we're getting a little closer here with this. And in this one is another one where play is. I mean, he is really addicting and just the way that we have him taking kids money for college and spending it and basically losing it to mine who is playing a scam artist. I mean, there's he's he's really not very nice at all. Now, he's an awful rent. Will you really think about it in retrospect, he's a terrible friend. He's one of those guys where it's that. You would almost bills makes you wonder how on earth? Do they like Maine? Do they maintain any kind of friendship along the way the way that he was he would treat him and watching watching this movie? It was almost like it was it was almost like they were trying to figure out what to do when you had a really good first movie. And obviously, the one one of the main things is this is also the tribute to Robin Harris along the way to seeing them kind of redevelop over time, it was different than his year and a half later when the movie comes out, and I do wonder how able to maintain that friendship as you take that much money for me. I'm not going to be the nicest guy to deal with ten was ten thousand dollars. That's fucking crazy. I can't say that I'd like house party to that much. And especially I was talking about the structure of the first house party. And how the house party is the entire second act and in this one the house party is basically the third act. So we're building up the entire time. And there's no even. Mention of a house party, and frankly, not to be nit-picker. But technically, they're not having a house party because this doesn't take place in. But to have the and I love when places the pajama jammy jam having that at the end of this. It's all building up to that. And that's where all of these parties come together, and we have everything happening the one line now talking about watching these movies almost thirty years later the line that really cracks me up is the whole idea of Sydney and her new roommate who's played by Queen Latifah and Sidney has to ask her point blank. You do like boys. Don't you? Another thing that's dated very well. Well. The early nineties again, we're we always thought the nineties were a lot overdress that they asked for. Wow. I heard her say that I couldn't help, but cringe. It was got the uncomfortable. Laughter. You know, as we're him at the first movie, I'm thinking of other movies that were happening around the same time. You know, we're talking about the way that the cops are harassing kids. And I'm just like, yeah. This is very light compared to something like a boys in the hood or menace society where you really get to see that stuff. And with this one with them the happening at college..

"Two sequel doesn't have to match offers the else we don't want to lose money, but wanna to do it we use. So all we know got it. Now like it didn't have it last time. So in the passing with that every sequel has made it up money to generate another sequel, but none of them have made as much money at invisible. I didn't realize there were five house party movies. I knew that there were three at realize like I kind of knew that. There was a fourth one from seeing the DVD for sale all four movies. I had no idea there was a fifth one until just the other day. Just pump them out. They keep Maton buddy between ninety ninety two. You must have been so busy because babies kids and boomerang came out in the same year. Yeah. I was making too at the same time. Intense. So we've been shooting boomerang, and we'd be sending notes back to studio about these kids, and we had to out the sing summer, which was pretty incredible. I can't remember how boomerang do. It's funny. How party is the movie that I mean, did they both really beloved films, but for a lot of white audiences? They really aren't aware of how much more success will boomerang was rain. Meet a hundred and thirty million dollars. All over the world was was. Success? That is amazing must must've been on top of the world at that point. Really, it was really great. Give me experience of working with a lengthy who was just a hero when an idol, and and that amazing task was showing. The studio didn't hundred percent the movie, they were, you know, frustrated lot away as the movie was very successful. And we did it was an interesting thing. Again, they were critics it was a famous review that called it a science fiction movie because they just couldn't believe that a black middle classic this too. So they just thought the whole thing was this is just something aspirational fantasy of how black classes because he apparently had never heard of Evan magazine or Johnston publications or in black insurance companies are old realize this is that or the template for who. Marring? Oh my God. That is crazy. Did they did they think that scene in house party when they go to that more upscale party that that was a fantasy as well? You know, I never had these critic, but it just really spoke to Taza between how long. Liberal people in the whitesman the perceived actual, black wise. I mean, the thing about house, probably boomerang. They're not protests movie. They're not movies whining about oppression and the white, man. They're just black people living their lives. I think subliminally that freaked them out because they aren't the focus of the movie this is living our lives, and we don't give a damn about you, which just doing their own thing. And I think that creates kind of a cognitive disconnecting hits you've written a lot of of live action films. But then we talked about babies kids. How is it putting yourself in that role of writing an animated film because you get to do? I imagine whatever you want to do because there's no concern as far as budgetary means for that. Yeah. I mean, I love animating. I'm we know what I was doing with boomerang not because of the needle. But because I. Hadn't had a family yet. So I really am excited to get back into animation. A kid family mention not have picked and I've watched movies type fits, and we understand how to entertain families better. Once you have a family. Well, how did you get involved with the Black Panther animated series? Well, I wrote the Black Panther as a comic book for like three and a half four years and. I. Got a all for to the president of entertainment at being team. They run the world's it gets like media company. So when I did my deal, I said, okay..

"But there's also a ton of directors who just stayed in music, videos and just stayed there until that market rand dry. How did you make that transition from music video? Oh into feature film can really about writing. You know, I was reading scripts is not like the I mean, whether it's then or now, there's not some huge amount of great screenplay sitting around about black culture. So those are the kind of things you wanna make movies about you've got generator yourself. So what were some of those screenplays that you're working on? I mean, we're those I imagine a few of them. Eventually you get me. But what were some of the other ones that you working at? You know, house party out his the few of the things that ever got me. But the big break actually, even before house party was from George Jackson who is a black died who graduated from Harvard. A few is head of the he knew about my short film, and he recommended the four by I hung would job which was to develop a movie for jenex axon and the time seven Jackson was hot coming off the control album of the time had just done purple ring subtle. You know, the Jimmy jam who was the producers how to deal with eight records. So it all kind of came together with that opportunity. I view just blew my mind. I can't imagine. I mean, I love more stay in more. State in a feature film. I mean, he was fantastic in procuring. Can't imagine a more of a more stay vehicle. That'd be fantastic. I never written a screenplay before. So I was really blessed to get paid to Loma job note. Three act structure. I don't think the term papers had ever written added up to one hundred and twenty pages. So I just wrote it wrote in wrote and intense up turning one hundred fifty page script which way too long in the executive there. Dale Pollock who went on to right past guy walking kind of one of the definitive book about Lucas. He really was very patient with me and help guide me to beating into some kind of shape. The movie is up not happening, but I earned enough money. Makes a lot purchase. So I could buy a car or computer, and it's Carter depreciate. But if I bought a computer, I could write more scripts and I'd make money so about the computer. So I imagine that the version of house party that you wrote, even you know, the the feature version probably change a ton based upon the casting, and I'm curious one when a guy Greenland and two when and play were introduced to the mix, I written a script. It was a junior executive and new by exit Kolia who is to her boss. They love the scripts. They might think short film. So they said, hey, let's develop it. So they give me a bunch of Elz didn't agree with the notes, but they made me think about how to improve the script. So I worked from the script. And again at them tending are doing it using some of the stars from uptown records, ruby chill, which is one of the act thing. These guys are funny. They were smart. They would just great knots. So I've planned on using them, and he said when he bitter stalls that so I was on video music box, which was sort of on the few venues where you could see black music videos on television would play him planes in yells. And I thought they were great. They will visual. They had great foods. And I knew this were management company said they're responsible. So I picked kitten play I may have overstated how many records they had? New highs balled into them made the movie with them. Now, there's a plenty of anecdote fair. There was a free moment where do want to say..
