Fresh update on "head football coach" discussed on The Propaganda Report

"That's what all the headlines say anyway but was that why he was fired. I question that after looking into the story a little bit. Here's a little bit of background. Washington state head football coach. Nick rolla vich. It was monday to is fired. Am seeing different reports as to why he was fired specifically summer saying that he was fired because he was in violation of the state's watch of the state of washington vaccine mandate for state employees however others are reporting that he was in violation of that mandate because he applied for and had been provisionally approved for a religious exemption and that instead he was fired because the athletic director the school consulted with the hr team and then they decided that relevant each could not before his duties without threatening public safety said the decision seems to be made not as a violation of the mandate but because of a public relations because of an image thing by the athletic director and that's important because he was fired with quote just calls as opposed to without just cause which means. He's not going to get any of his like three point. Six million dollars worth severance pay more on that in a moment here are some more background that makes me call the reason for his firing in question on august twentieth of this year this coach and the university were sued by former player and the lawsuit claims that relevant committed acts. That were racist intentional malicious willful and in gross and reckless disregard of this former player former players. May this former players rights. Whose name is cassie woods. Now this stemmed from a leaked phone call back in twenty twenty where the coach and the player. We're having a discussion. The player told the coach that he was going to opt out of playing during twenty twenty season over concerns with co vid because he had sickle cell and media Anemia excuse me and the coach said he's fine with that but then the coach asked him if this was really about the pac twelve player lead unity movement. because of. that's what this is really about..

Kansas splits with athletic director Jeff Long two days after parting ways with Les Miles

"Get you updated on what is happening in lawrence kansas. Where less mild was let go the other day and then this afternoon the man who hired him and presumably let him go has also been shown. The door crisslow joining us on that story and others. Chris thanks for the time. Always good to have you on and give us the latest. How did how did how did this happen. So quickly with jeff long. It's great to be with you. Always i I really felt like we heard the news about less miles that this was just it was going to happen with jeff law and just did not senior way. He would survive. I think what happened in a lot of donors a kansas at the end of the day. The president a chance to learn. Douglas giradi heard from several influential donors that they just did not want to be the guy to hire the next head football coach and i think when you look back sort of having all the down with less weight ended there that The more that they thought about it. And i think jeff athletics look long enough to know he said in a statement. Today was going to be a huge distraction more hung around and and they wanna make a clean break. Bring somebody else in to hire the knicks head football coach. Oh by the way they got issues the basketball program. Well they certainly do. And i saw her. Danny manning announced that he was a contender for the ad job. But as we. I don't know whether tennessee is the template but you do need an athletic director to get in there. Fairly quickly don't you. Yeah you don't the what's your proverbial tail wagging the dog. So yeah you gotta bring somebody else somebody. And it's going to be the ad someone that's that's gonna be the football coaches boss. I tell you name to keep in mind. Travis goff and northwestern we went to kansas undergrad. There how highly respected and sort of in the world. And he's a guy that you're going to hear a lot of push for from donors from influential people there k you to bring in to come in higher this the next head football coach. I think a guy will be certainly equipped to deal with. What's going to come their way on the basketball front as well talking to crisslow chris. Let me just take a step back and go back in time time to lsu and unless miles and after this information dumped the other day and learning much more about what happened down there and what didn't happen. I'm curious as a reporter who has covered so many scandals in so many so many big stories in college football just your your takeaway from from the progression of that program with with joe alita and less miles to to really where it is now and where does it go to try to clean up a rather tattered reputation. Yeah you think back to two thousand eleven ten years ago paul. Lsu's on top of the world now. Granted they lost alabama national championship. But that was a great football team In in a team that was is elite as it gets and now here. We are ten years later and they won the championship last year. But a lot of things off the field. A lot of things going on you know you. You always felt like there at the end of his tenured. Lsu that there was a lot of people. They're out to get him. When i say out to get him that wanted to move on. I just felt like they could do better. But as you know you know the sec. As well as anybody yeses. He thinks they can do better. Except for maybe in tuscaloosa And i think the some of the political forces around lsu sorta helpless. We're on his side to leave. Certainly it and four games the sixteen season they got it in. You heard jimbo. Fisher's name all sorts of aim. Tom herman the end up with a lot of people felt like that was never going to work with all the old winter national championship last year and really a great job assembling people going out and getting staff around in but now here we are off the field with this complete invested in investigation. As some of the way things have been handled with sexual assault domestic incidents going back before was head coach So you're right. There's there's a lot on their at lsu Just like kansas. You've got issues with the basketball team as well So it's It's a mess right now. We'll see where it all

Kansas Coach Les Miles Out Over Behavior With Women While at LSU

"And hello and welcome back. We continue to talk about the situation in kansas Formerly lsu were less. Mild is under employed in case. You missed it earlier. The headlines of course have been screaming since last night that les miles in kansas have mutually parted ways. That's a rather benevolent way of putting less were shown the door. He had a disastrous. Run there but it was what happened. In two thousand thirteen at lsu that ultimately got him fired. Reuss feldman has covered less miles for a very long time in bruce. Thanks so much for the time shafran we want to talk to you about including your pizza just hit about the the nfl mock draft. But let's start with less miles not a surprise. But what do you think Finally pushed kansas over the edge and And did away with less after what has been coming out for days if not weeks from baton rouge untenable this the idea. Kansas jeff long's the ad there obviously sec. Fans will remember from his time at arkansas. It's just been an abysmal run. And the fact that has searched process get less miles there in the first place was kind of a jolt in kind of a head scratcher but now after what had come out from Over the weekend. And friday from the lsu part of this. I don't know how in twenty twenty one kansas could say. Oh yeah we're okay with that just even if you look at the wording on how jeff long explained the move last night it was just like we got to win more games. It was like wait a minute. There were some really Disgraceful actions that are alleged against less miles from his time at lsu. And i don't know how they could look the other way with a straight face and say okay this a guy who the lsu administration had clearly put some you know unique situations around him and stipulations in dealing with people and some of those allegations are so troubling and so disturbing. I really think they had no choice but to move on. And the wording parted ways whatever they just had to make a change and get him out of there. And i'm suspect at some point in the nazi just future an after avenue. Ad as well. Yeah that was. Obviously a lot of people are going now and you know jeff. Long didn't exactly distinguish himself at arkansas. Were shown the door there and surprisingly or maybe not. Surprisingly the program has been on fire under hunter year. Check but i mean how can you. How can you possibly keep jeff long on the job after mean and football's only part of the problem. The basketball program has been under fire for years. Exactly i mean there's issues with the ncaa and the basketball program ac- basketball is a bigger deal there than football. But i think in this. It's so many issues. That are layered together. And i think it's the tone-deaf aspect Jeff lungs long relationship with last miles The allegations in the things in those investigations about less. They are really disturbing. Act act especially as they relate to student workers there. I think it's really troubling and the fact that k. You in jeff. Along the way it was explained. Even if you look back i think over the weekend. Less miles attorney gave us gave a statement that i think makes may kansas look quite honestly even worse that they kind of knew about it and that they were okay with it was almost like well because other people were alarmed by now that it was that it was something that was like shouldn't have happened just because of the perception on it i just think it all of it is made that tenure. Look so sketchy. And i just don't know how your kansas how you don't kind of rip the band aid off at this point and say hey we gotta make a different a different move here. I just think right now you look at it yes the. Ncaa extended the dead period much longer. So they don't really have to rush in through this coaching search process. But who's going to be making the new head football coach higher in this. I mean this is a lot of stuff for the kansas administration to sort out as they move on not just from last miles but i think as they move in a different direction for. Who's in charge of the parliament.

"Coming up next. Our l. A Chargers head football coach Brandon Staley. Looking forward to that Now this week, Awas coming up in our number three. You know, I'm looking forward to that. The teepee. Always avoid to that got a brand new YouTube channel. You should check out The day after the fast Hawk and I bouncing back with a vengeance. And you had the big head coming in. I got a feeling the big head's gonna get right this weekend. Once again in case you missed it, and you want to know which way he's going. He's going Kansas City minus three. He's going Tampa Bay plus four He's got Connor McGregor to finish the fight, minus 200. And he's taking the Jungle racing. Century in Santa Anita in race one tomorrow Cruel intention. All right. 1 806 368686 Last hour I start the program by talking about the very sad passing of Hank Aaron and what he meant to the sport What he meant to society What he meant to this country we had on that if you want to react to a go right ahead. One talks more about Connor McGregor. If you listen to the program, you know how I feel about him overall. Like surprise. Surprise Mother believers. The king is back. That's right economy. Gregor is back. He has entered Fist Island. In the manner that only royalty can on a private bleeping yacht. That's how Connor showed up on Lee economy Gregor. Then he jumped on the scale and he waiting perfectly at 1 55 for that rematch with Dustin Por Yai Man. There's nothing better than a fight week, nothing better than fight week. Separate championship week and if C Championship of C championship, so what's better if you have the NFC Championship, the agency championship and a fight week, especially a Connor McGregor fight week, especially a focused Connor McGregor fight week. When he will try to apply his fist to the face of an elite opponent. Again. The thing I love best about UFC and Dana White is he has the best fight. The best is not like boxing. I love boxing. It's not like boxing where we have to wait an entire year and maybe maybe get the best match up. You always get the best matchups in UFC action, and that's exactly what we're going to get. Justin Portier and Connor McGregor. You have seen 2 57 in Abu Dhabi. Yes. Connor gave Dustin the hands early and often in the first ballot back in 2014. He did finish him easily Accept this. Dustin is not the same is that one that one that one was formidable. In fact, he was ranked higher. Dan Connor McGregor going sad fight. He was dangerous, except now Por Yai is elite. He's world class and make him a steak. While he is a big underdog. He can win this fight. It would not surprise me at all if he beat Connor McGregor You don't believe me. Ask, just engage. He ask Max hallway. Ask Eddie Alvarez asked Anthony Pettus, all dudes that he's beaten since It's a collection of studs that dust and had his way with any one of those guys would have been any enormous win for him. He beat all of them. So in short, I respect the hell out of destined Por yai. In fact, he's one of most respected fighters in the game. Everybody respects this guy. And the thing that I really respect about him is the way he went about rebuilding himself mentally, physically and mechanically. In the years since that loss to Connor. Here's what it comes down to you. Does his best beat Connor's best Saturday and I must say no, it doesn't. It doesn't. However, an important question is, will we get Connor's best? I feel pretty confident in saying that Mr version of Dustin is going to show up. But I can't promise the same about Connor. You never know with Connor. You never know what Connor and it goes back to the conversation I've had about 10 times with Dana White once Connor and understand what Connor came from. Connor was a plumber's apprentice. Connor. Was poor. Connor was like below the poverty level Mom and was hungry, literally and figuratively. And he was a guy who brought himself up and he was fierce, fierce. But what happens when you take that same guy and all of a sudden he's got 100 million bucks or he's 100 million bucks. Suddenly it's not so interesting to get your face beat in. So we don't know about Connor. He admitted point blank that he was not on point with his training going. It's outlaws with a beam. I mean, I'm looking at the guy. I'm looking at him on social media. I'm looking at him in interviews. I'm looking at him in the way in. He looks like he's in tremendous shape. Those close to him stays in the best shape he's ever been in. He looks laser focused corner, saying all the right things But again, you never really know with Connor these days. You never know if he's got that same hunger and that same focus and the same grind that made him the Champ champ in the first place. If he is dialed in Like he was for that first fight. This can also be a quick fight like the first fight like Connor's last fight against cowboy Cerrone E. But the truth is Well, I am hitting Connor hard in the fight. I've already gotten down. I've hit him hard, hard. You don't know what you're going to get when he steps into the cage and believe me is much as I respect the cowboy. He's no dust employee,.

"7200 is the phone number here at 7 20, W G and and and he's coming up in five minutes. I want it would just take a second here, Lovey Smith. Is out as Illinois head football coach. Five years on the job. Northwestern cracked Illinois yesterday. 28 to 10. Northwestern is beat Illinois now six straight weeks. 17 and 39 was love his record in Illinois. 10 and 33 in the Big 10 again five years. Yet in coach in college football since back in 1995 when he was the defensive backs coach at Ohio State free for your record. And, of course, long time long time with the Bears took him to a Super Bowl. And then with the Bucks 81 in 63 with the Bears. I never thought that was a good hire by Illinois even though There is a credibility toe lovey that maybe the align I football program was looking for, like, Oh, this guy Coast with the Bears, but you're recruiting You know, 17 18 year olds. They don't know who lovey Smith is. They don't care who lovey Smith is, and even more so than that. You've got to be really hungry. You want to do that job to go out? Be a recruiter and talk to kids and tell them Illinois is great. And yes, you have a chance to make it to the NFL and sitting down with Mom and dad. I'm sure there's parts of that that love he enjoyed. But for a guy who's had like so much success in the NFL. Just thought that was going to be a really, really, really hard transition. And Not an easy gig, but Illinois is invested a bunch in their facilities. It's not like I don't quite get why they've come got on come on such hard times its football program. Always been a basketball school, but this has just been brutal. But this was this was well overdue. You know, back in the day you used to stay something about a defensive player that had a big hit. You know, it used to say, and I have not yet heard you say it. I've been on the radio here with Ann Ann Arbor. You know what that is? You think so hard and it's not bubble. You hit him so hard. It knocked the snot bubble out of them. You have not said that yet this year know that I haven't seen it yet. I haven't seen anybody get hit yet. I need to see some ID. You just sell them that one before the season before the season starts, all right. I like that. All right, Um Speaking of hard hit here. Last week, you mentioned that you played against the great Lawrence Taylor from the giant. Was that the hardest you ever hit in the NFL or college? What comes to mind? They talk about a defensive player that hit the hardest. Ah Oh, it was Thanksgiving weekend. My rookie year. Uh and, um, it was it was the Sunday after Thanksgiving. We played the Chicago Bears. I think it was the 1980 88 87 going into 88 87. The Chicago Bears came in. We ran and we ran it off tackle. And it was the fridge coming down the line..

You can also fall man Twitter at Jim Rome hit me with a beef also, I still want to talk more about the Clippers melting down the way they did. I said to you. Who do you think like that more? Laker fan or Nugget fan. The answer is Portland Trail Blazer, player CJ McCollum and Damian Lowe are having a field day on Twitter MBA. Twitter was all over the Clippers. Like I said, who like out more nuggets fans or Laker fans? The answer is Option. C. All of Twitter is badly is the Clippers were beaten on the floor last night. They were hammered even worse on Twitter. Everybody wanted a piece of them last night. Magic City kitchen tweeted a crying emoji, ostensibly as a tribute to their guy, Lemon pepper, Lou getting bounced. And if you know anything about ice Cube, man, you know Cuba's something You know, Cube had something because you know he was not going to let AH, clippers humiliation go by without a mention. So he jumped in. He posted a pic of the Clippers logo with a bunch of space between it and the Larry O'Brien trophy under a headline that read social distancing. Then Cube added his own caption quote. Same old Clippers. Ah, second round dynasty. I mean, that is harsh, but that is fair. That is so good, and it wasn't just coming from Laker fans, although they were cackling Mom and George Karl came flying off the top rope. George Karl. He's got a phone and he's not afraid to use it. "But if you had had to guess I would They drag this into September before making a decision about spring, or do you think it's going to come before that? I think it would come before that, because I think Of the fall season is creeping up on us pretty fast, so I would imagine there's going to be a decision before that. I can't imagine going into September, I would guess maybe take it in August, but I can't imagine that we're still in limbo of September 1st. Let's talk about the athletic department as a whole, not just football. The news the other day about Stanford cutting 11 teams, and I guess my initial reaction was. Wow. I feel bad for those student athletes, and and we kind of I don't think I'm the only one that kind of starts saying, Wow, Maybe this is Domino. But then After the show That night, I went looked because I thought 36 varsity programs sounds high. I know. See you only as 17. So my question here is When the Stanford News comes out, Is it the domino that the Big 10 is where everyone's gotta follow suit? Or do you think Stanford was already a little bloated when it comes to the number of sports they had in the first place? Yeah, That's an interesting one. Because you know, Stanford certainly was blood. I think I saw something. Ohio State might be the always who'll have more sports of memory or sample it First. Those were the top two. You know, and there's a lot of sports, but There's a lot of money, too. So you know, I was surprised to see them cutting sports. So is that something that Domino? I think it'll be interesting to see. But you know, additional football pools are going to have to cut sports and either gonna be of massive impact. There's no football. Including maybe athletic department has a whole folding and maybe not Power five. But I think you could maybe Apple departments having a cold because they're not getting that football money so I think it could be one of many. Steps that we see who'll take staffer could be the 1st 1 But we could see a lot of schools do that. Do you think from the power five perspective that maybe they're worst case scenarios not necessarily folding up like like a smaller schools, like the smaller schools would But the idea of all right, let's take and and I'm I'm I think it was Bob Bowlsby, who had who said Maybe it wasn't Bob Bowlsby. I'm trying to think who it was. But Some conference commissioner. Somebody from the college football playoff was saying something about where you would have Football men's basketball, and then you would designate like two women's sports to be revenue generating, and therefore you can offer scholarships. Do you think that that the worst case scenario for a power five school like Colorado Would be We'll still give out our scholarships for football, both men's and women's basketball and, for example, volleyball, but every other sport skiing and track and cross country in these kind of sports. They're gonna They're not. We're not going to do scholarships anymore. Yeah, I think that's certainly one of those things should happen now. The lady does have rules. You have to have a certain number of sports versus 40 sponsor to be Division one and to use kind of right at that. That number so they would have to change the legislation there for that to happen, But I think this is certainly the case that could happen with a pandemic like that. So I think Certainly that case that schools could ask for some relief on that rule, and, you know, try to drop some sports that aren't revenue, producing actually lose a lot of money. Well, still very much a lot up in the air when it comes to college football, And if you want the buff side of things, I suggest you get Brian to follow. At Brian, How 33 on Twitter and check out his stuff in the Boulder Daily camera. Brian really appreciate it good to catch up and we'll chat soon. Thanks, sir. I appreciate it. Yeah. You bet. Brian. How joining us here on drive time Sports. Albert pointing out See you had to drop most of their varsity sports back in the seventies to pay Chuck Fairbanks. As the head football coach and get in line with Title nine. Yeah, I think I think Stanford has a lot, I think. See, you may be on the lighter side of things. And maybe that's why Rick George has been so so adamant that they're not cutting sports because These other power five schools, even schools within the Pac 12. They got a lot of cutting to do to get to where See you is so I think, whatever the reason why I see you has the number of varsity sports. It does. I think that's probably why they're a little bit. More safe. But again if college football Is gone. And that Then everything's back on the table. Of cause football's back gone for even a year. Let's keep with that. Topic for a moment because Urban Meyer had some comments. Today. I believe it was either today or yesterday that urban Meyer had some comments when it comes to spring football on the viability of that, so we'll get into that conversation coming up next here on extra sports 1300 Vapor traffic center. "This is and now ladies and gentlemen please welcome the builder hard worker in the new head football coach we start with the rule of law billed as the key here as long as getting taxing back and forth we talked a little bit your quarter can you can leave this team I work with and I'm kinda skeptical Roger with his golden we go we has been radio ESPN news we are presented by progressive insurance old phone guests will join us on the show opens or performance line my goal of Michael junior trailing go here with you you know years from now when someone says what was it like working with the goal X. I will tell the story of what just happened I'm not talking to my son yeah you walk by stab your some of the plaster for deserved it and then he went in and stole your bacon and you guys almost came to blows no I told my break as head of tried to stab me with a flight at all okay you know that's fine I did some physical do you stab you with a fork if you want to some physical back I understand that I deserve it because I did a physical thing don't know the man's bacon literally every time ask a cinnamon it can I have a piece of bacon here I do recall that debate and you didn't want to somebody you type one I I do what I knew would hurt you the most took my bacon because you just on necessary that we tried to call you regional workplace when we were out this weekend you reaching over and taking trays gin and tonic I mean you know the hell that would start if you do that we will go to the customer we will so far feel like Trey would take off a white glove and asked me to do I will see you in the backyard and we will come to ten paces if you do that feel like there's some a hundred percent something that happened a great someone has been slapped in the face with a glove taken off and ten sep two opposite way out on the playground playground you input played listen you can get good at if you don't put in the time so that's what this is going to be like years from now we'll be right the long illustrious history of the show so we're trying to figure out what the long illustrious history will be like with Matt rule as the new head coach of the Carolina Panthers if you didn't hear any of the press conference it was very sermon ask yesterday and then we were talking with the two press conferences that we had with Matt ruling Carolina and then obviously Mike McCarthy I with the cowboys there were two completely different tones at both of them because feels like both these teams need to hear the message from that new head coach in a different way like with the cowboys we got the team which you get down to business right which we get going here we got everything we hear we love the roster the stats they were very good so let's figure out why we were in the playoffs meanwhile Caroline it feels like it's a cell Hey man we're going to be good we're gonna be great again we're gonna get this thing going and that was the energy that you got coming back out of out of Matt ruled at the press conference and it was also the thing that he was selling what he was talking to Scott van pelt less not on SportsCenter including why he took this job I think the biggest thing was as as I asked him about his career before being an older you know he he did all the things he did in the business world through process and seen the way that he did the process for hiring the head coach in the you know the way that they did it with me I thought was he leaves so this is someone who doesn't just use those words they've lived and they believe in and as I talked about the process I used a temple in Baylor and I plan to use here in Carolina it just seemed like we clicked in that book that that person is talking of course is David temper the owner and what I what I do find interesting the fact he gets at seven year contract is it remember David Tepper came from not only billions of dollars but there's also a minority owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers there is not a team everywhere the preacher stability Morton in Pittsburgh all use your line yeah the pope the pope's raising your or pope three at Pittsburgh Steelers coaches yeah I love some of the stories that the metro told me said that they they came David temper Marty Harney came to his house to Matt rules house and Matt rule and the family were getting back a little past their normal schedule the meeting of from a trip that they were on so temper and her anywhere at that results when that rule got there he said they help bring in the luggage now bring stuff into the house and I said at one point or after the talk one of Matt rules kids came down the stairs and said are we going to Carolina and and master we're not sure just yet the kid got mad and walked out of the house said I mean if it's at all the signs were pointing toward this now seven for sixty two helps a whole lot and seven years sixty two million and again David temper picked up the body out of six million dollars we're going to all of your old Randy does here in Waco now new closets for older kids yes so was the money talks and and but the then the interesting thing was that Adam Schefter reported even after he had all that stuff Matt who was from Roosevelt island in New York and had a spot with Tom Coughlin's our coaching staff he was an offense of line assistant coach right one twelve forty went to temple revolt that program went to Baylor pick that up from the hazmat situation that it'd become and turn that around a he did call the giants and say Hey just in case oz so Matt was explaining why he did reach out to the giants and say Hey are you still interested lots of teams reach out lots of teams talk you when you want to just make sure you're you're respectful but the same time when you find the right one I think you have to go take a you know my wife and I sat there and and just feel so good about this opportunity you know we lived in North Carolina for four years is also good about coming back here that just seem like the right time the right place and we went and pulled the trigger this in its business V. agent calls are under the age of doing his job right you you you find out what the deal is okay I got a deal here Hey he's got a deal here what do you guys say I mean that's that's business anybody at that level needs to understand that you know that we will need to start talking about loyalty because I offered you this when were you were you were having even hired you yet I mean that's that's us out the window until you sign the contract until you sign on the dotted line and that's exactly what that rule did I'll say again the one thing I got from it as a former player as he and he was impressive talking there's no doubt about it and I have no idea what the press conference yeah there you go let's see the all season now I have no idea what it's like in a team meeting but let me tell you what I was a vision and like you know this every day starts off with a full team meeting for the most part sarlacc probably around eight o'clock or so you get that full team meeting and the head coach talks and after that you break up and offense defense to basically start your day well you don't break up into offense a defense until the head coach is done talking or do or do you have to do and listening to Matt rule talk and talk and it was cool talking talk I just thought to myself man that's good if he does that a team meetings at eight in the morning that's going to get old really quickly players want to hear a couple words move on get up off and Steve and to get that day going and I'm not saying he's going to do that but as he was talking and owning that press conference that's the one thing I was thinking about is man I wanted he's gonna have long meetings yeah it hurt so what if that's the newness of the process like that's a funny party yesterday between Matt rule between Mike McCarthy you saw a lot of the players showing up I know Dallas Zack Martin Travis Frederick right couple other guys from its current team Randall Cobb were all at the press conference is the introductory you're trying to get a look at your new code for the first time probably talk to him a little bit I was one of the interesting parts about Carolina is Matt rule reference like I spoke on the phone again Newt right Tana respect for what cam Newton's done here was it really commit a one way or the other on what the future looks like there because that is the difference of these jobs that we said is the cowboys you're starting with the foundation intact you know we are quarterbacks going to be right Mike McCarthy intimated as much for Matt ruled you've got an entirely different situation an entirely different set of decisions that are perfectly trade these are two teams in different situations and Ralph it's like we are hitting the ground at full sprint right to get this thing done in Carolina it's well we're we're not sure of the most important position on the field or there's gonna be other changes as well what kind of ritual in this thing and then the question Caroline is will came to be there and here's what Matt rule had to say at the sermon type press conference about came specifically what I will say is this United chance talk to camp yesterday and I have the utmost respect for for him and what he's done and I love the way he talked to me to be quite on stated what he I want to talk about the past you want to talk about the future and so but other than that I you know I would rather much rather talk to those guys and kind of get a feel for not just can't all the players on the roster and and really have a good process moving forward for the entire roster and look when you hear that and then you would you were all parsing words are but it sure sounds like Hey have a lot of respect for yeah got to do what's best for the entire roster it doesn't sound like cam Newton is going to be a part of campus going forward and just to be clear cam Newton is still the best quarterback on this roster yes yeah like that is one thing that we learn definitively through the course of this last season is cam Newton when he is healthy is still the best player at quarterback currently on this football team the question is because of his contract situation because of the past history of injury that's now started to build up a little bit over the last couple of years is that the personages till go forward with as your franchise quarterback knowing you've got a new coach knowing you really overall this regime listen and light comes at you fast to your look at at cam Newton from his first year sixteen game sixteen game sixteen games fourteen games sixteen fifteen sixteen.

"I've got the experiencing thing like that. It had the wild factor. Just the atmosphere and everything that goes with it. And and just to lose a game like that it was a heartbreaker, but the way that Bruce and his team handled herself. I mean, it says a lot about them and their character. And you know, we were nothing but proud of that much. That sounds such an important part of sports. I mean, you you've won couple of most epic games in of finishes in college football history. You've lost games. At the end. I mean, is that something that you you think about and you have to be prepared for? Yeah. Yeah. I think as a coach you got to be prepared forever situation. But you know, I think in your toughest moments. That's when you're true character shows, it doesn't matter what sport or what coats and Paul and family was so proud of Bruce and his team the way that they responded, and but like I said it's a lot tougher to be a fan. And it's really I've talked to a number of people who are down not far from where you are. And I mean, those moments just hung and nobody knew over time. Now, I was celebrating. You know, we we thought we'd won the game in about ten seconds later. We figured out. Oh, no. There was a foul. Call just you know after after it was over with. I think we just sat there for about fifteen minutes. People round me dislike it was still in shock and really tough moment. I remember gaming twenty thirteen where at the end. We weren't sure who who had one. Whether it was tied. You you understand that feeling? Yeah. There's no doubt, you know, Heiser high and the lows are low, and you know, when you're playing at a game like that that means so much you know, that that does touch stale. "Dad was a head football coach this little town twenty five hundred people that team events all the way to the semi-finals stay of Oklahoma and the score in the fourth quarter was thirteen to twelve where I can remember twenty five seconds left on the clock. And dad the made the decision to go for two. And they can get and they lost thirteen twelve. So the next year we moved to a new town where dad was. That was coach by share that because we're not moved to our new hometown. I would not have had the pediatrician ahead because let's say you're later. I was diagnosed with cancer. The hospital. I was that in Oklahoma said we're going to have to cough, this lag sixty percent chance of survival with the chemotherapy, and it was a local pediatrician and our new hometown. Who said, you know, go through the second Pinon that saints Children's Research Hospital. That's God the live Jesus moving using those circumstances that you would think would be such a negative and how he used that moment really put us in the right place where we needed to be our new hometown really embraced my story. And there was a moment where the chemotherapies were so strong then in the eighties that my liver, just quit. And I had to be lifeline to Tulsa and the doctor. So my parents, you probably go say goodbye, we don't expect him to make it through the night. And that was the Sunday morning. And you know, our church was impre where and black Asli recovered liver. Just actually started puncturing again. I know we're not be here. Not for God working in our lives taking those moments of humility and some of those sternest test and using those for his purpose. His getting putting in place where you're meant to be and even look back today. It's just it's humbling. You know, really he loves me that much why and. And yet, you know, he does mines maybe a little more dramatic than others. But everybody's had those moments where they look back and know that God loves them. He's touched them and. I think that's important for us to reflect back in their moments in our lives where the power of the Holy Spirit has touched us and has given us through those tough times times where they're worse. He's picked us up times that we've been our lowest continues to show. I love you that no matter what mistakes I make that knowing that. I'm loved is one of the most powerful promises that Jesus gave the guy gave.

"Percha? Searching for the R word. Keith is in New York. Hello, Keith Fay, Paul. How you doing? We're doing great. Thank you. Good. Good. I think James birthday is in may. And it's what he said Lynn, but there thirty one days and days so got to be one of them. Listen, I wanna tell you about the Carolina thing. Okay. All right. First of all they did lose athletic director, the president university the head football coach. And then on top of that they went to they were on three years of probation law scholarships. The football program has been damaged to to no end even today. I mean, the last two years they were what you won four games in the last two years. So that the university has really taken a beating from this thing. It's not that they didn't get away scot-free from anything. I didn't infected ROY Williams basketball program is refresh. It's a fact that recruiting it's it's it's not been like they getting it. You know, they got away with murder in addition. They also were on two years of accreditation probation the school almost lost his credit Keith, isn't or is it not true. What the and I some some of that football stuff was about another issue. But but my point to you is this. It seems like what Chapel Hill went through wasn't accreditation debate versus an NC double a debate. Yeah. Well, they were all accredited accreditation probation. They had to. No, I I've seen chancellor's come and go at that school like a revolving door. Chapel hill. Yeah. Not that I know of where you just had your I got bad news for your president. Just just resigned. Chancellor of the system. Margaret Spelman just step down. Yeah. I hate to break in was with facts. But that is a fact Zach is. Zack is up next in getting nobody's resigned. But just other other than the chance when the president. Zack is engaged. Our Zach good. How're you doing? We're doing. Well. Thank you. I just wanted to talk about something some offseason talk. I don't know if you know more Mark Rogers is a guy and YouTube. He does like football talk and stuff, you know. And everyone's talking about Texas, and in Miami is Deby you I've never earned his team in high state and conversation being DVD's. The only two teams I've ever heard was Florida in LSU besides until this year. Those are the only two I've ever heard. So whatever else you're hearing, you shouldn't be here. And I know, you know, we are DVU because we had fantastic Robert is up next in South Carolina. Hello, robert. Hey, how you Paul? We're doing. Well. Thank you. Thank you for taking my call. I'm a first time caller. I'm a South Carolina game caught saying pulled for the Gamecocks and anybody plays of poll. All a have a have a question for you. Sure. Pertaining to Carolina's skid football schedule this. This year hard. We're gonna play Alabama Georgia, Florida, Texas, A m Kentucky. And Clemson, would you think we've got one of the toughest schedules in the country? I disagree. You don't have one of the toughest you have the toughest. Oh, okay. I I was I was thinking the same thing Paul. But I wanted to hear from you know, I it's it's it's an insanely difficult schedule, and it comes at the worst possible time because we'll muschamp is coming off of a very difficult year and a completely humiliating end of the year in the Bill this for those who haven't seen schedule North Carolina's the first game that's a neutral site game at Bank of America stadium, Alabama at home. And then that Missouri Kentucky at your Ed, Georgia, Florida at home at Tennessee at AM and Clemson. Just. You also have apps state on there, which is a competitive team while not literally now that's ridiculous schedule. Yeah. Abs- state beat us here some years ago. Yeah. Remember what they did to Michigan? Here's the Knoxville three years ago and apps state nearly beat they should have been Tennessee. I think that game in overtime. You you're right on that, sir. Well, listen, Robert, I think we're gonna talk to coach muschamp next week that is a very difficult schedule. And anyway, we're still looking for the our word is that correct? Whatever that means. But we what we will do next. It's talk to someone who covers the university of Missouri. Trying to get an objective conversation going here about what happened. In columbia. We're coming right back to listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast day matter. Joining us covers Missouri for the Saint Louis post dispatch. Dave, thanks for the.

"Head football coach athletic director, very hyperbolic talking about how they will aggressively appeal this, but you also have the appellate process works and many of us don't what happens when you appeal case in front of the incidental, and what's the likelihood of it being overturned? That's a good question years and years ago when miles brand was the president the ended up lay the appeals process was changed miles. Brand got tired of committee on infractions rulings being overturned. Modified. So the the the process is different now. Now, it's basically clear kind of like video review on on a basketball four football field. It's got to be clear error like unmistakable. And or or an abusive discretion something like that. And that that's pretty rare that that anything gets modified or overturned on appeal. So I would put the chances of this especially with a case like like, Missouri where this is what the ended up lake calls academic fraud academic fraud to the answer AA is is the player or somebody helping the player put one over on the university. Your cheat the university, and that's why it wasn't academic fraud and the North Carolina case the legitimacy of the courses is up to the school. So whatever they say is legitimate is legitimate. If they put the course out there, it's presumed to Bill legitimate. So that was never academic fraud. And that's why they were never charged with it by the answer. Aa there were essentially. Admitting. It wasn't academic fraud. The the question really in this Missouri case is where the penalties fair. And I don't think they are. But oddly enough Paul it's kind of like vacating wins the more like Louisville got all these wins. Vacated Syracuse a few years ago under Jim boeheim, the more the schools complain about the punishment. Honestly, the more the incident thinks they're doing the right thing. They think hey, this really hurts them. So it's working when really the only ones that care in Missouri case, truthfully. The only people that care are Missouri fans who say it's unfair and Missouri's rivals who say, I told you. They're cheaters everybody else doesn't care. And so that that's to the benefit of the AA. Before you go have to ask you a college basketball question or two we've spent a lot of time here and elsewhere talking about Tennessee. I know you've seen them you've seen Duke. You were at Kentucky the other day. How good is Tennessee? They're really good. They're they're kind of an old school basketball team in their makeup. All that. You know, a lot of guys our age group would say, you know, I like college basketball better went kids stuck around for four years. And you could you get to know the players and love your team. Well, these guys have been around three and four years and they've grown up together. They they were they built together they got really good together. And they were top ranked team last year and lost a loyal Chicago and the tournament and now they're back, and they're more mature and they've been through it. And they've got a they've got a star in grant Williams. They've got a an all conference player, and Admiral Scofield, they can shoot it. They're they're good defensively. They're getting better, but they're not a super team full of super talents like Kentucky. Duke or some of these other places. So it'll be interesting to see like how many how many people really do fall in love with this team because they're they're legit. They're very good. I don't think anybody's great yet this year..

"All right. I'll get to that. In just one minute. I'll get you is today's incredible. According to this guy, but as promised we are joined by the head football coach at Troy he was named head coach on Thursday. He spent the last two seasons at Auburn. He was quarterbacks coach at Troy back in two thousand ten Troy's one thirty one games and had three bowl wins in the last three seasons. Their new head coach is chip Lindsey chip nice to have you on the show. How are you? Hey, great jam. Yeah. Great to have you. Thanks for making time. I know it's been less than a week since you were named head coach. So what are the last few days been like for you? Well, it's been a whirlwind Orleans for sure, but you know, what it's been a lot of fun. Starting to get started and looking forward to or he had success at Auburn. And then you had taken the offense coordinator job at Kansas. I knew you were not looking to rush to leave that job. So what was your reaction when the opportunity at Troy, I came up. Yeah. You know, he's been one of those places. I've always kind of appalled about you know. Or the coach. And you know, how this business is things happen. Unexpectedly sometimes and you know, it was great Neil's got a great opportunity and he's done an excellent job. So it's just kind of fortunate all worked out and look at forty eight going chip linzie, my guest chip, the other thing is you from Madison Alabama you went to north Alabama. Is that mentioned you were the quarterbacks coach Troy back in two thousand ten so I mean, really when you get right down to it. What does it mean to you to becoming back to Troy? Oh, it's it's really special. I mean, choices special place. Obviously my first job was here. A lot of success choice has you know, success for all the time even way back in the late eighties. It's just a great great place. Great tradition. And really I'm excited and honored to be lethal program. Now at keeping this thing keeping this thing on in the right direction. So you're ready for the opportunity when you get a certain point in your career, and you start thinking about becoming your own head coach, and you want to be that guy. What types of things you looking for in a program. And as you know, the Troy was the right one for you. Well, I think for me familiarity with foam going up in this area. You know, one a lot about this area. High school coaches in the state, you know, being a former high school coach having relationships will obviously I think they play dividend pay dividends for us. And I just think is a great fit for me and for my family and vice versa. And it's a place that has proven it can win. And it's a place that I think in great shape, and we're gonna come in and continue to build on this chip Lindsay is the new head coach Troy in of course, a big part of taking over head coach is that first meeting with the team. What was that meeting like? And then how do you go about developing relationships with players that didn't shoes you, but you chose them. Well, it was really neat experience. You know, you always during about that first time you walk in your team. And you get a chance to get in front of them. And I think for for our players really I just wanted them to have to get to know me a little bit. You know kids nineteen twenty years old. Cokes change. But I think building those relationships early is it really important we've already obviously started a team meeting individual meetings, and some of these kids I did know being over the last two years and recruiting some home and Bill Bill relationship that way, obviously, they all play for somebody. I know or or whatever. So it's been good. It's been a great transition. So far, we're still in the process of doing that put together. But so far, it's been great. And I think he's gonna make for for a better transition. We're talking Troy football chip is new head coach, you mentioned Auburn and one of the things you've talked about as you have coached in number of different places and some truly elite programs. I've talked Troy football on this show quite a bit for those who don't know. What is it about Troy did so unique? And so different. What is it about the place? The makes it special. Well, I think it's it's a blue collar place. You know, it's here in the area of Alabama words. Everything kind of revolves around this university. I mentioned the tradition earlier. Established way back in the eighties and winning national championship in one AA. Later transition to division one when he became the head coach in obviously Neo who had worked for him as well. And I just think the people here Carolina about it. It's a lot of pride to play here at Troy, you know, the anytime anywhere anybody philosophy that coach quite broad here. Like that's something that is carried on really just kind of one of those unique places that that when you come here you kinda fall in love with. I'm always fascinated by head coaches and the journey they take and where they started and how it all played out as the example, you started your coaching careers and assistant high school coach in Springville, Alabama. What were those early days like? Well, those are the days, you know, I was the head baseball coach first job and just Springville a great little town here outside of Birmingham. You know, you're learning on the go with the one thing always thought was if I could really just build relationship my players play hard compete. I could make up for lack of knowledge, you know, at that time for sure I think that's what motivated me to become a coach the guys I played for high school. About that age is is is an age where you can really make a difference in kids lives and really kind of influence them in a positive way. And I think that's what kind of, you know, built my career artist to make those relationships and and really make kids. Enjoy the experience you're trying to connect with your kids. You're trying to learn as much as you possibly can. But when you're an assistant in Springville and a couple of other schools, what kind of thoughts. Do you have about your future was the goal always to be a college head coach or maybe back then was that not even on the radar? No, I was probably just my dream was to be a high school football coach. That's really all. I wanna do. My dad had done that early on. You know, that was e e kinda just evolve as time goes you you have some success. You get to know people build relationships and people give you an opportunity. There's a lot of great high school coaches around the country. You know, that I've been especially here in Alabama that you know, are really good coaches and really just need the opportunity. And fortunately, I was able to get that thanks to here. Troy, and and from that point on it's been it's been a wild ride. If I wonder about that. Because there are a lot of really really good high school coaches. There are a lot of really good assistant Heiko high school coaches that don't get the opportunity. How were you able to go about working your way up and putting yourself into this position? Just being right place. The right time being around good people in this profession that that we're looking to help those guys advance. I think that's the biggest thing is, you know, I got to be overcome Detroit because of affiliated with the same offense that that Neil had been running Tony Franklin when he first came here because she wanted to keep that going. And then I think that's just that's just how you start you find a way to get an opportunity I came here as a quarterback coach in two thousand ten in worried about how much money I was making the fact that every job, and and then work, and and keep your head down and try to be good where you are, you know, and then good things usually happens. And that's kind of what's happened to me. And then finally the real important thing. Neil Brown, moved on West Virginia, and he had ROY successful run. But you made one thing clear, you guys are different in different in the sense that you're a better dancer than Neil. What gives you that confidence? Chip and. What's your go to dance move? You know, seeing him do his dance on the internet. It gives me a lot of confidence that I can win the dance officer. You know, I'm more of a more of an old school dancer, but I got a lot of confidence that I'd be better. Neil for sure. Chip Lindsay is my you know, what I'm thinking about one last thing. Actually, you grew up not far from Freddie kitchen you guys played quarterback. And right around the same time. How will you know him? And what do you make of his rise? Yeah. I know him really, well he actually played out when when he was playing quarterback, we only attendance of camps together in high school. No, forty four longtime great guy is opportunity. And he and I both get an opportunity to be head coaches saying years for special. That's awesome. Chip Lindsay is the new head coach Troy university chip gray tabby on the show. I appreciate the time. Good luck with everything. I know we'll do it again soon. Okay. Jim. Thanks for having me. A great day. Thanks for making time. Chip on her. You've got a lot going on having taken that job on Thursday talking Troy football in. He goes into a really good situation. Again in one thirty one games over the last three years, they won three ball games. And he steps right into a program that he has history with Alex ends Aloni is coming up next hour when we come back wanna get into podcasts sixty six that Perez. If you don't know this guy, you need to know this guy, you're gonna love this guy. If you love elk you will love papper s I'm not saying that they're one of the same old saying, they're really similar. Although there are some similarities, but those two guys were tight. In fact, elk L put me in touch with Pat Perez all of that coming up today's the day. If there's something you want to say that you know normally is not allowed. You should get on top of it right now. "Think the one thing with cycle is the most an exactly how to say this is the most non head football coach football coach I've ever been around there. There's no coach. There's no ego and arrogance that that that makes them maniacal. You know being around Brian Kelly, and Butch Jones even cover Ville to some extent, you know, those guys all had kind of a a traditional like what you expect from a head football coach Lou pickles, almost like like, you're on call really successful uncle that you see at the holidays. It gives you good advice and. Has a couple years and always says the right thing round family, and and is doing really well in life like thickly, just a normal guy that happens to hip grown up playing football and being very good at it. And I think you saw that in his football team that that it was very Cincinnati. It was very workman-like. It was they said the right things. They did the right thing that Clayton heart, and they won the city over. And I think we'll tickle is in the team taking on his personality is a big part of that. He's been great. And I love that attitude. That's a great Suzanne people love look fickle here in Cincinnati, and you wonder too if you're you're the cutting obviously he comes in here has his own guys Taylor does. But you know, at some point does does someone like Luke fickle make that jump to the NFL and in a few years, indeed do it as a coordinated position. But what better place than situation to do it here in Cincinnati? Hopefully, the the teams on an upswing. Now, we got to get going. Appreciate it. Chad Brendel with a bearcat journal dot com in the B C J podcast, which he house. Thanks again. Buddy. Thanks weekend. There you go. "Excuse me. Sure. Lost my voice. We're headed to the only waffle house in Colorado. I'm love. And my wife said to me, you know, what? Bryce, you think that man back gave for what he did to lead that team down the road and win that game against Syracuse. So, Freddie, I just wanna say if you're out there, we love you. Thank you. Go tigers. And by the way, have the Texas toast on me and a sweet tea with lemonade waffle house. Yeah. With the waffle house a couple of times in South Carolina on vacation. I'll big fan. I approve of that message. But you make a great point about that game because Trevor lawns knocked out of that game versus out for Syracuse. They were down, and it looked like they were not going to be able to figure a way out to find a way to win that game and their backup quarterback Bryce came in that game and say the day the running game helped as well. But he had to make some critical critical throws they about this. Syracuse play Clemson better than anybody else after that. Because from that point on the last thing went for Clemson, they won by at least twenty points. That includes beating teams like Notre Dame and Alabama. Clemson in two games of the college football playoff skirts. Seventy four points Notre Dame, Alabama combined did not even get twenty nineteen combined three for Notre Dame and sixty Alabama. But it could have all fallen apart had the quarterback the backup quarterback Bryce not stepped in and save the day at home versus Syracuse. Although they still have the field was that the will bother them. Like, you know, it doesn't bother me. It's their generation is field, Janet Pym, my producer. They can do what they want got a question for you just thought about this who has a better position being a D one head football coach being Brent Venables. Where yet your coordinator getting head coach money. You don't have to deal with the head coach responsibility. And you got a lotta those dudes out the defense. I'd rather be dabble Sweeney. Here's why he won the ACC championship. Playoff semi final and the national championship. And he's going to get eight hundred seventy five thousand dollars for winning those three games the potential money and power is more important than being a defensive coordinator and guys like Dabo Sweeney. They don't look at that as pressure. They invite that they're thinking I I wanted to do this. I wanted to be part of this. I'll never get Dabo Sweeney. Got the job at Clemson. And I had him on this show. And I said, what do you think about your future? He's I'm not even thinking about that. But I know this what I want to do. And I want to be here for this program. Would they feel about me? I can make it a lot better for me if we win and even he wasn't winning early. But the administration had a leap of faith saying themselves. You know, what your jobs not endanger, we believe that everything is going to be right? Everything is going to be on point. Now, they didn't see this. They were hoping they were praying. They were cutting their Clemson tiger stuffed. Night going, please, please, please, please, please, please. Let's not Clemson anymore. Meaning we lose games, we shouldn't lose. Let's not Clemson and the people so they can make fun of us. I'm so every night before they went to bed. The Clemson faithful. The Clemson football team. The department now down to sleep. Let's not Clemson. So we have to keep they were doing that hugging and stuff annals each and every night. They never saw this to the point within that just the best program in the ACC. And that that gap is getting larger but seen Clemson and everybody else. Everybody thought it going to be Florida state Miami's league that is Florida state and Miami go so does the ACC forget, it Clemson keeps increasing that gap. The last three to four years he has built an NFL program. Getting NFL type players young players ready to play right away knowing they may be on the on that campus with two or three years. That's dabbled Sweeney's been able to do and nobody saw it. But at least Clemson believed enough that he should give more time to have this job. And now move on from him after two to three years with it didn't seem like any of this was going to be made possible no excuse of Alabama coach Nick Sabin. And by the way is not as good as he showed tonight. That's next. ESPN.
