NASA's Ingenuity Mars Helicopter Succeeds in Historic First Flight

"New this morning. It's being hailed as another Wright brothers moment, but on a different planet altimeter data that ingenuity and perform this first life the first light of a powered aircraft. Another planet. The excitement from flight controllers in California is over NASA's experimental $85 million Mars helicopter. Which rose from a dusty red surface into the thin air on Mars this morning, achieving the first powered controlled flight on another planet. That £4 helicopter named ingenuity was carrying a bit of wing fabric from the 1903 Wright Flyer, which made similar history at Kitty Hawk in North Carolina.

"Flag. All right, J R a While. This six years nets and Buck's jostle for the top three seeds in the Embassy Eastern Conference. The teams battling for the four seed are in a pretty good role of the road. That would be the Knicks and the Hawks. The Knicks a half a game behind Atlanta after their seventh straight win, the next defeated the Hornets 109 97, while the Hawks were winning for the ninth time in 11 games, they beat the Magic 1 12. 96 the Nets a half a game behind the idle sixes for that top spot in the East. The Nets beat the pelicans 1 34 1 29 On the same day. They got bad news about James Harden hard and has a setback. Rehabbing his injured hamstring. He is out indefinitely. Steve Nash put it, He is back to square one. The Timberwolves beat the Kings. 1 34 to 1 20 Just one other game going on right now, In fact, is five seconds to go in this one. The Blazer lead the Clippers won 12 toe 1 11. The Oakland A's began their season with six straight losses. The Red Sox began their season over three. What do they now have in common? Neither does much losing pitch swinging.

There are a half game behind the Atlanta Hawks for the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs in each and every night. It's somebody else do this round leading the way. No doubt it could be RJ Berger. One night could be Bullock another night. It can be Emmanuel Quickly. Another night, Tom Thibodeau keeps this up. You guys are having more more of a conversation with him being a coach of the year candidate, the MBA Without a doubt you are being literal when you say the Knicks are the hottest team. In the MBA. "Game with a call 1 12 96 the final favor of Atlanta. They went eight out of the last 10 games. We knew the change with Nate McMillan as their head coach is gonna pay dividends. Right now. They're the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference there in line heavy home Advantage playoff series in the first round, just changing everything around when players were unhappy. These guys are a lot happening. Atlanta ever since they made that coaching change, moving boy price out, and Nate McMillan in Switching up the offense a bit a little more accountability for lack of a better term through. They have been absolutely outstanding tonight. I'm against on all four Orlando teammate they were they were supposed to do Beat the hell out of him, Huh? Hawks? Remember, the Knicks were terrible. Right now they are half game behind the Philadelphia 76 was for the best record, he's in conference. Somebody put it on Twitter. Stan Van Gundy coached the pelicans. Why would you not double Kyrie Irving when he had no Kevin Durant and no James Harden to help him out tonight. Down in New Orleans versus the pelicans. I have no answer for that question You showed out, but no matter what, but the Nets win without harden. Without Katie 1 34 1 20 nine's Ion you mentioned and 33 7 in a loss. They were even selling her poster of her posing with it for thirty five bucks and it's not sold out the website had some glitches but it was not sold out. So they're telling people don't pay a thousand dollars for the scream because more is on the way. Can you imagine. That's insane

A highlight from S02E31 The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe

"One night as i sat half stupefied in the dan of more than infamy. My attention was suddenly drawn to some black object reposing upon the head of one of the immense hawks heads of gin or from which constituted the chief furniture of the apartment i had been looking steadily. The top of these hooks head for some minutes and what now caused me. Surprise was fact that i had not soon perceive the object of ripon. I approached it untouched. It with my hand. It was a black cat. a very large one. Fullest is largest pluto and closely resembling him in every aspect but one pluto had not a white hair upon any portion of his body. But this cat had a large although indefinite splotch of white covering neely the whole region of the breast upon my touching him he immediately rose byrd loudly rubbed against my hand and the pit delighted with my notice. This was the very creature which i was in search. I at once offered to purchase it of the landlord but this person made no claim to it. Knew nothing of it. Never seen it.

Twenty two by the raf and fourteen by the red arrows Many of them they had in their inventory. They had to get rid of because they found out that captain anderson had actually piloted them but Anyway the minute ministry of defence said that the cause of the crash will be investigated. So i know that you have done a lot of work on neutrinos. You have a few papers. That came out recently. And i want to talk to a twenty eighteen paper dalogue and my own neutrino signatures of primordial black holes. invite you say. These studied primordial black holes ph is as sources of massive neutrinos by hawking radiation under the hypothesis that black holes emit nuclear no bass item states be described quantitatively called the pbs evolution and lifetime is affected by the mass and flew munich dialect my own nature of neutrinos before we get the details celia I wanted to get some definitions of folks would know what black court saw a few episodes of black holes Here we're talking about. The pride won't imprac codes owes The these black holes are fall close to the big bang And then as caulking radiation Sort of The black hole evaporating So to speak and that That lady Imitating these particles called neutrinos. Right is that. Do i understand that correctly. Yes so so pry bhutia blackhaws before we get the neutrinos what is sort of the mechanism of formation their ho- exactly what they have formed sure We believe that Primordial hose could form in the early universe from density fluctuations so We know that any object could can possibly become a black hole if you compress it into a very very small volume so this same process could happen in the universe with Density fluctuations that could be a regional space where there is an over density compared to the surrounding and each of over the east coast past Then then it could get to the point of becoming a black hole This this The details of this process are beyond my expertise But this is fairly reasonable thing to expect and The diesel really small rate in the scheme of things. Yes so when i started to Learn about time or their black holes. I was amazed by how different in mass can be. They can be may be the massive wouldn't but they can also be The mass of Being or they can be Even even smaller so they can really be very very tiny. Yes oh so. That's really really small so this is sort of quantum fluctuations only universe Kind of getting Getting concentrated in vide- small areas But we believe those. Those primordial black holes emit nucleus. we Have to go back to stephen hawking for that stephen hawking wrote this seminal paper Which is about what we nowadays. Nowadays call hawking radiation so he demonstrated that any black hole regardless of what it is could be primordial black hole or a stellar. Nicole doesn't matter any black hole isn't really black because it meets radiations so radiation particles And the the process that we call evaporation so Because a black holes fundamentally gravity objects they would meet any particle that couples to raggedy including trees so It's the moment you have a black hole you do. Have hawking radiation and neutrinos are just that are expected. Part of hawking radiation. You're so caulking radiation so that that happens to every black hole even the even the supermassive ones right so i it said gentle phenomenon And so going to neutrinos now Don't typically thing neutrino site Caltrans and electrons are really well known. neutrinos are particles. Dad don't interact with The matter Espionage don't interact much with matters. We don't really see them. They don't really see them. And and so it's difficult to measure that's right and so so this could you give a. What does the history of neutrino vendor we. I understand such things existed. Let's see We go back to the twentieth century and the story goes That the father of neutrino sees Warfare he. He made the hypotheses of a new particle existing as a way to explain Some strange behavior of neutrinos produced by by nuclear decay so It's it's a long story but Let me just say that For a long time. Neutrinos who just the hypotheses and then around the mead of this twentieth century They would actually officer so we started to Know that this particles existed and But that was pretty much heat. So we didn't know much about the properties And one of these properties the mass which we still don't know i'm easy after all these decades but we still don't know if neutrinos have something like a magnetic went for example And something that we didn't learn until much later on is the fact. That neutrinos oscillate. That's that that sounds. That's something that we that were somehow established Turn of the sanctuary around the around the year. Two thousand really after after decades of of testing with the solar neutrino selling trainers. So there are still there are still a number of no on your trainers. One of them is the mass one and the other one is the The nature of the neutrinos being the iraq particles or miranda particles we She's kind of a fundamental cost. So there are that. That's that's that's related to the fundamental nature of the neutrino as particle break. So so they do. They have a mass but masses small. Do they have a chunk. Neutrinos don't have charge so they are electrically neutral and that's Comedy the biggest reason for for them to be a so allusive as you were mentioning earlier on especially in the in early. Nineteen hundreds all the particle detectors so basically a electro-magnetic detectors they were looking for charge or Magnetic behavioral some sort. So neutrinos don't have that and so they They only have the weak interaction At that that we know wolf and gravity of course and so that's why they They escape detection so so easily because their interaction is very weak. Yeah so so. That's sort of the beauty of neutrinos right so because they don't interact V can go back digits of years. Simple hats Perhaps become pickup one on earth and it would have travelled that distance through all sorts of things but would not have affected wider rate right. Yes and so so the other phenomenon of neutrino is that you mentioned that they also late so are they're failures of tinos they go back and forth. Yes it's It's actually a fairly Easy to this cried kwan to sonam on We know that In quantum mechanics there is this Particles described by these function which is called the wave function. And so the neutrinos could be on. Neutrino could be born as a say an extra and then it's quanta way function would evolve over time in a way that after sometime. The wave function is no longer a purely electron neutrino way function. But the has a little bit or even law actually of a different flavor. It could be a new one or tau. So what we observe in the actors. Is this change of flavor and perhaps the most striking demonstration of this phenomenon is solemn. Neutrinos because we know that the sun produces an extra treatments and It doesn't produce a new on and talion trainers so But here on earth we do Have evidence that the solar neutrino flags that we receive has some You wanna talion. Trina in it and that can only be explained by sedation and Actually after this other neutrino data showed this phenomenon. This was also confirmed by a saint men made experiments so it's a fairly established phenomenon it and so that the flavors are Electron new on tall. Yes that's right and so. Did you understand the vendor made in the sun for example there they are made as electron Neutrinos and by the time they reached the earth day the Immunes dot. Yes yes Impart young. that's that's what happens so ease. It always the case that they get a manufactured so to speak as as electoral neutrinos always. It depends on where they are born. There are places where neutrino sutter born in or flavors. A so it's it's it really varies with With the type of environment We are talking about okay. Okay and so in the people you say ph is this primordial black holes. We talked about radiates right. Handed and left handed dutra knows in equal amounts so anybody right-handed unless the cleaners. Okay let me see so Yes you say. Indicates of dirac neutrinos. pba Left neutrinos in equal amounts possibly increasing deceptive number noon pheno species nest. Yes is that explainable. Yes so right handed than left handed. Neutrinos that may take why to explain what that exactly means me. Just say that It's related to the neutrino mass. So if you're truly knows didn't have a mass which we know they do but if they didn't have a mouse They would only exist as left handed particles which means that basically their spin is Is anti aligned with the momentum and but if they have mass and the iraq particles There could be another type of neutrino which is right handed. Which where the This being ease aligned with a mentor other than anti line and so If you are iraq these these two different species could exist and so instead of having one species of neutrino emitted left-handed one Indicators of a massless trina if we have not suv nutrients than you would have to species and so. The black hole radiate war energy compared to The case when neutrinos don't amass so when we started working on this paper i was interested in this phenomenon that A lot of the literature having to do with a developer. Evaporation of primordial black couls. Consider the neutrinos as massless about. Now we know that they are massive. And so i thought well Sixty speaking at primordial black hole could radiate more energy than previously thought. So i found that aspect interesting and then sees you mention the possibility to increase the effective number of species. That's related to what it was talking about. So then you the black hole would ra- gate more neutrino States or more neutrino Species to spe pseudo speak and then Would increase the number of neutrinos per cubic centimeter Data we observe today so I'm kind of glossing over a lot of these days. But basically cosmology gives us a measurement of this and effective which is called the effective number two species. And if you have this right. Handed neutrinos coming from the primordial black holes. This number could be higher than than expected. And so that would be may be a i way to tell that maybe there are more black holes in the universe yet. So so the hawking radiation essentially creation coming out of black holes Expected defined Expected that over a long period of time. Black holes radiate away lap. Later ray out the mass or information that didn't do it And so this. Radiation is hockey. Radio station is it is a new park. Or is it. Fundamentally composed of neutrinos hawking radiation is made of every particle that no of so A black hole. A camera gate Pretty much everything. Photons neutrinos throngs You loans It said cetera but There is the catch here. The fact that a black hole has a temperature which is another Big achievement of stephen hawking to end and others To that the black hole is thermo dynamical object and so Basically the bigger the black hole the lower the temperature so if the temperature is really low The black hole wouldn't be able to immed- Very massive particles because they are thermal energy would be sufficient for that so because masses energy Mc squared right so because massey's energy If a black hole has too low of a temperature It wouldn't have its quantum energy It's it's Wouldn't be enough to produce the mass off a particular particle for example a proton may be too heavy to be produced by a really low tanto black home so so the beaker. The black called the lower the temperature. Yes ed so. So then can expect the bigger black holes to have more of a neutrino content in radiation. Yes because The bigger black holes would as i said be able to radiate the heavy particles and so they would only be able to radiate away the low mass particles and so there could be black holes that only emit photons gravitons and Neutrinos do a of sort of the distribution of this primordial black holes Isn't you know sort of everywhere. What is what do we know about you. Know some of the distribution of bbc's you mean spatial distribution like where they are now. I'm wondering just like the easy would do sort of look at the early universe will find them everywhere Probably at the beginning they would be a more or less uniformly distributed Bug in the universe. Today they would probably be Behaving like the dark matter. Does they would Be part of galactic halos In other words they would be they would class gravitationally on large structures like a like a galaxy placido galaxy so these call still around They would they would behave like like the dark matter down. So they would be in in halo. Galaxies would have by. Now have april would would they not have disappear because it far it depends on the mass That they have when they are born so their if their mass is less than a certain value that trying to remember Basically yes they would have to By now they would have completely evaporate did their masters larger than they will take longer to evaporate and they could still be around So they roughly speaking the dividing line between a black hole. Steve being around today or not. I think it's something like ten to fifteen grams fiery recall correctly into fifteen clams though So this paper. Eusebio obtained the diffuse flux of right hill. Neutrinos from his idea and so so. So so the nikkei actually act to build these neutrinos. They'd be flying here do pbs specifically In principle that's a possibility we Considered that for certain Masses of these black holes and certain density of this black holes the flux of neutrinos that they generate over time could be fairly large and so we could Detect these neutrinos If we had a very Power who attacked so Now life is never ideally in the sense that a real Ut detector have substantive issues like ground And so on. So at the end of the people we conclude that impact is giving given the limitations that current nutrient doctors have It may not really be possible to detect neutrinos trump mortgage black holes but people. That's a possibility and that alone is interesting. Yeah because they suggestion that this primordial black holes could be as as you mentioned could be part of the dark matter that yes to seeking. Is that still About us that has been. There has been a debate on these Kind of going back and forth in the scientific community The latest i heard is that Black whose could be part of the dark matter. Maybe even a large part but probably not they entire dark matter so a one hundred percent primordial Battery is a bit difficult to justify the day. experimental bowels that we already have constrained so various types but there could be scenarios where maybe a fraction of the dark matter. He's made of primordial black holes. I wanted to go into a ended up paper in twenty twenty supernova neutrinos directional sensitivity and prospects for dissertation here the export potential of current and future liquid cinta league neutrino detectors. I decade old town. Mass a localize a super a supernova neutrino signal into sky in douglas was feeding the core collapse nearby star tens to hundreds of english Coated and don't be constructed policy in the detector can be used to estimate a direction to the star so so this is now neutrinos from supernova and You so so we. We have Idea here that before this opened on what happens. If please open over a time period it is creating neutrinos that could pick up and and potentially get ready to see the super bowl. Yes that's what excites me The fact that Think about bitter jews. Beetlejuice is the most famous nearby star. That could go supernova anytime and we don't know when that's going to happen and If it wasn't for these neutrinos that our paper is about we will know until the style literally Collapses and and then soon after becomes superman but in this paper we we Show that before the star collapses which is the beginning of the supernova process We can detect these. These neutrinos That are used at that at that stage and so increase the pool we could know that You know tomorrow. These days beetlejuice exploding and that that would be quite exciting. Yeah it's beetlejuice is is red joy and reasonably close to was really big star. I can remember Cecilia there was some suggestion that It could go supernova within something one hundred fifty thousand years which is obliquely in cosmic time so it is getting ready to go to Supernova right yes. I am not you formed about exactly the number of years give or take but it's it's ready it's ready. It could be any time and any time any time for an astronomer muse anytime the next thousand soviet so we should. We should hold their breath. But it's ready could be tomorrow. It could be in a hundred years could supernova. I know that this is not part of the paper but could the beetlejuice supernova avenue adverse effect on north really know a supernova is very very spectacular event. it's it's a star that collapses so it implodes i and that explodes and then when he explodes It's very bright. In the case of bitter jews we could. We could see by naked-eye shore but in terms of A fact of each radiation and neutrinos in light on on us and on our daily activities. It wouldn't it. Wouldn't affect them in any way so it's a save Show to just enjoy without any worry. Great answer so you talking about supernova neutrinos so so can be actually detect neutrinos from supernova. What different from what we talked about in the previous people Different from pbs I'm not sure. Can you repeat yes. So the new teen emanating from a supernova different from the Neutrinos of expectancy from a primordial black hole. Yes the the different In many ways disney trails have higher energies. So it's much much easier to attack them and indicates will beat the jews. We would detect thousands or even more of dan millions. Probably of them Indiana so different in the way they are born because in our primordial black hole ordinary black hole The processes volcanoes the asian. Which which is a gravity phenomenon in a supernova. You're born out of the very hot and dense environment That the that that the star as after it has collapsed so star collapsing on its own way to become very dense and so In this very dense in hot environment nuclear processes take place that produce these nutrients. So i guess the main difference is that indicates supernova it's most nuclear phenomenon and in the call is really fundamentally a gravitational sonam. Okay you discover technique in this paper and you saved sin principle possible unique the identify the progenitor star so So the existing technology and ideas discussed in the paper viki see teacup a neutrino decode. Identify valid came from or what direction thing from embed you can go back and look at the in that direction if he find to supernova then you could say that the supernova that created in-principle Yes let me. Just say that There are situations and this is not one of them but there are situations where if you have one neutrino you can point to the pointing the sky. What came from in these case. It's a little more complicated. Because what really gives us. The information is the statistical distribution of these nutrients so we are talking about may be the tax in hundred a hundred Gable take from say be for example and What did detector really observe is not the neutrino is kind of a vector which is related to the products of these neutrinos so this neutrino sues interacts with the interact with the detector. And then out of this interaction you have a positive on the new thrown and those can be observed and you can you can create a factory using these two and then and then these rector will have a certain orientation but each each neutrino coming will give you a differently oriented vector but statistically if you look at the distribution of these factors you you can tell you can you can do for with a certain of course The direction of the neutrinos because these vectors are not uniformly distributed they are they have a non uniform distribution of the direction. And so using this information we can we can define a regional the sky where The new three could come from so we can. We cannot now down to a point but we can now down to maybe a cone of a few tens of degrees Width and then we look in that cone and see what stars that com and maybe be juicy one of them. Yeah so As you say you if you see a few Neutrinos Statistics bution of those will give us some some probability That it is in in some region of the sky. And then you say the paper You can then that if it is happening please open nola. You learnt other observational. Modalities multi messagero rations Invisible in radio and other other types of observations Do actually pick up more data so this is almost like a early alert system If it is in place right yes i would call it a very early I learned to because it's we're talking about maybe our worse or insert very fortunate cases. We are even talking about maybe day Before the assad goes supernova and. so that's enough time to plan for for it so a something that fascinated me When i heard about this from a from a an experimentalist is that there is a human factor which was not aware of but The factories so if you have come up with thirty minutes to plan for watching supernova this may not be enough because it just takes stein to make phone calls and get a hold of people and and decide what to do. Come to a consensus in that. I saw in addition to technical things. Like okay have to maybe turn your telescope Direction which takes time. But i i was really fascinated by the human factor. Those things that if you had style we'd be you can kind of gathered. Relevant people decide something but if you have thirty minutes or or or minutes maybe not so. Yeah yeah i wondered. If such a earlier system is in place Perhaps could be something programmatic. Crises is picking up And you have some you know. Maybe some ai techniques or something like that that identifies the region and it goes. Programmatic returned the telescopes look. Yes yes exactly so. There could be a protocol in place For that so e if a telescope was suitable for observing a nearby supernova which which is not always the case than than now that we showed that it's possible to know beforehand if a star is going to go supernova then there could be some sort of protocol in place already so that when the alert comes which is we can just activated the protocol and oriented telescope. maybe automatically will in some sort of Organized way yeah as you say if you remove humans from the process it becomes not better there is actually already working this direction It's called this new two point. Oh a network which has to do with Exactly these using neutrinos as alert for the astronomy community and That has to do with exactly a creating alerts and also creating protocols for how to react to an alert rate. I want to end the people that just came out. it concordant scenario for the observation of neutrino from the tidal disruption. Even eight hundred twenty nine hundred ninety s t You say be induced at phenomenology concordance canadia with the logistic jet of for the title disruption event Between ninety s jesmyn proposes a source of the astrophysical neutrino event. Ice cube So the title disruption even this is star getting cooler into a black hole getting Getting sucked in rate is that the is that even up to the match yes This is something that we We had about be in in popular science stalks What what happens if you get too close to black hole and It's kind of scary. So the answer is you would be ripped apart because your feet will be pulled in with a strong force than your head and these. This is what happens to two statehouse. Use the star gas to close than by guests Ripped the park. Which is what the tied is option means and so instead of a star Rotating around a black hole we just have a stellar stellar That dr intially. I created by the black hole and so This is something that The happy neighbor cops serve did so so we have. This does happen this particularly Eighty twenty nine hundred ninety s and Bequeath actually see a new cleaners from that particular even so tightness. Deduction events are fairly well established phenomenon in astronomy. We have many of them served They they are Fairly a common plays events But what's special about this particular one. Eighty two thousand nineteen years. G is that We could let's say It could have Produced on neutrino that was detected a ice cube so eighty twenty nine hundred ninety s. She is the first either direction event. For which is coincident. Neutrinos detected a dice. Cube in queens. This coincidence is likely to be accidental. So on approachability estimate tells us that these coins. This is pretty causal not accident so eighty twenty nine hundred ninety. The g could be the parent of this neutrino. And that's that's that's a i. That's very interesting. Yes i skew. is a is a big ice cube in the in. The south is I'm not sure it's exactly cuba. But it's it's the biggest block of is which has been Eastern With values Small detectors So it's it's an array of swarner detectors but yeah it's basically a big block of ice which has been transformed into a detective and so so the idea that this high energy neutrinos from what they were System montemar even that happened Out there this high energy neutrinos passing through that ice q. believe some telltale signs All of that happening and yuxi picked up Then began back Just like you were talking about the previous creeper begin. Please back to a region so this is one of those cases where you can tell from a single neutrino of course the with with a narrower where you can tell the point in the sky where three neutrino kate from. It's doable with one single neutrino because this high energy neutrinos when they enter the is They produce ca a shower so they kind of illuminate. They you me nate. The is but the do it in a way which is very much Beat so and then and then the direction of the the direction of bigotry knows. We have a pretty good accuracy often. How often could be a pickup something like that. Do we have an estimate of how often that would happen. Meaning ice cube detects something like this. Every year ice cube the tax Of the order of ten high-energy neutrinos froth outside our galaxy. Tadesse the number for the entire crop of neutrinos that ice cube has It went we talk about tidal disruption events in the specific these are fairly rare phenomena and so they estimated that maybe a few times so percent of the entire neutrino flux the thais cubeys of serving could be from tidal disruption events. Not much more than that. So we are talking about less than half of the total flats being to tell this option events okay and so the tug disruption burned as as you mentioned It starts getting clipped applaud and pulled back into a into a a black hole but this ten percent. Do they have to be these braces as they call it. The things that have a jet that is sort of lying towards us. Is that it necessarily condition for these types of high energy neutrinos. It's it's a plausible scenario Let me just say that. There is an important difference between blazers in tidal disruption events. In the fact that the ablaze is something that has a jet. She's always on so the jets kinda kerman feature of of these particular galaxy but the title is adoption. Event is transient events. Saw dotcoms creates the accretion. This accretion of the star of the black hole produces flair is flair can last year or two but then it would just fade away so There could be jet and in fact in our paper we present where there is a jet so they partisans the user chat But if there is a jet in tiger disruption event. That's a transient suggested. That's born when This starts to create the stellar debris. And then it's on for months or years and then and then shuts off and it has two point in our direction as you as you mentioned because otherwise we would. We would see the trains your so this high energy neutrinos sillier how. How many orders of magnitude are we talking about coming to the one set you pick up. Let's say from the sun I'm not sure about the question. Can you maybe rephrase yet. So when you say this high energy neutrinos that is coming from let's say a tidal disruption events or something like that How much comedy orders of magnitude more energy Outdoors come to you. Know the ones that might be created the sun a lot menu of this magnitude so It is a big difference. So the sun produces new three meals. over a wide range of energies Higher energy neutrinos from the sun reach energies of the order of ten am pt and mega awards and for the ice cream. Neutrinos we are talking about one hundred of the older one hundred t. v. or even thousand teams. Which would be p so. Let's say maybe eighty tortoise magnitude finding the mass rife or okay and so this e. v. measure it is actually measuring the mass of the neutrino of newfield. Now these these neutrinos are have such a Such high energy that basically It's impossible to know their mass Because because as i said massey's energy so they talk energy of neutrino Detected is to be so high that that percentage view to its mass east so tiny that this practice mutual so i was wondering if we know the energy couldn't be sort of back computer to save the mass is or it doesn't follow The reasoning is a bit different and The way to sink about this is perhaps they let me see the formula for energy particle Which used the rest energy Applause the kinetic energy and So connecticut is so high that he thought the overwhelms direct energy. So it's it's and of course every time you measure the energy when three no. There is a narrow associated with the measurement so You we can't really we can't really tell what What led the boss of the detroit news but both roughtly this. This appears to be sort of an early warning system for many many things right topped the supernova the in the title disruption events producing heightened plano's So this could be sort of inundated with a monkey message. Observations protocols as you mentioned that gives us a higher success. Wait suspect. I would think certainly nominated be one right That's the power of multi messenger astronomy the integration of different signals coming from Photos tree knows navigation waves Causing me craze and Danger plays very powerful emmanuel cases and maybe supernova case is the most striking Xenos come first. But that's not always the case So in the indicates of tidal disruption events Did you know that was observed. Came about five months later than the initial dhammika looser version of the tidal disruption events so It's if it can go both ways. neutrinos can be early alert or they only alert could be for example a radio salvation or or an x-ray use ovation and then and then the neutrino attacked or could Focus a surge in that direction as see what they find which which has actually been done ice cube sometimes. Does these these archival. Search this on the basis of others from From for example x ray or gamma ray surveys interested. Exciting eighty that said a lot to be owned It seems It seems like these till don't know all the production mechanisms for neutrinos but if we have robust with to pick them up on than we can place them back and and talk asking questions What might be there definitely So yes so. People celia the next five years Wanted the aid is that you believe Be will make a significant crocus in this Innovative neutrinos then two different areas. That a very promising One is Broadly speaking Manmade nutrients so there is. There is a big push especially hitting the united states to build Create very powerful beams of trainings and then these beams are manmade. So we know that very well. We know that energy we know the composition and we can use them to learn about The properties of treatments and then That other men bead neutrino experiments where Scientists look for the between months so that's also very promising In something i really. I really excited about that. That may be a furious novel with noble the neutrino mass us from these very high position laboratory experience. Then there is the whole Topic of neutrinos as part of the mouth of mike messenger astronomy and in that area. I think what was was to look forward. To among other scenes is the interplay gravitational waves shock waves. You still Somehow a science of its own into a large extent but there are so many possible connections. We've neutrinos tidal disruption adoption events should produce reputation ways so baranov shoot us gradation ways So so there is. There is a a lot of potential there which is still unexplored in and that's where i see myself Working on in the next few years you adjust very quickly The do gravitational waves travel bid closest and new ashtrays and so if If they both are produced in In uneven they're expected to arrive on earth close to simultaneously. It depends on the timing of the production if the answer is yes the waves ending a knows are born at the same time which may not be exactly true because the physics that governs tation waves is different from the one that that governs neutrinos. So but the difference in timing would be the difference Accumulated that birth But but the two were were generated genetically the same time. They should arrive the same time. Just thinking this a systematic difference in the production time than guan lorries given early warning for the other. But that doesn't seem to do a case right. There could be cases where significant lag in the production of rotation way with respect to the production of the tree nose and one example is. We haven't touched on this before but let me just nation mergers so if we have if we have a merger for example we have maybe a merger of a neutron stars or black hole neutral star before the merger happens so when the two objects that kind of still approaching each other we should start observe serving ways and this is what this is what has been seen so Delight experiment observes these these nominal But if we have a merger After the merger has occurred and the two objects have become one than a. Dan could be the formation of of over an accretion disk and he secretion Trainers which we can which we can back so the neutrino We come After they initially asian waves and so relation as would be the alert for the neutrino. That does excellent. your this has been great as celia. thanks so much complaining pleasure. Okay thank you bye. This is a scientific sense. Biden unveils ambitious $2 trillion infrastructure plan

"Biden's expensive new infrastructure plan will need help from tax hikes. More from Fox is Hilary von, in Pittsburgh, where the president outlined that plan today, President Biden's infrastructure package could become infamous among deficit hawks because it will go down in history. If passed as the most Expensive spending package ever topping out at $2.25 trillion and tagging along with it would come the biggest tax increase in generations. Republican leaders are refusing to support the plan because they say it actually directs less than a third of its money to infrastructure as large portions are. Slighted for green energy and climate change policies. The

I did because i appreciate the videos and the stories That you post. And i also read the job and also read The story that you shared on your website about your journey with food Would you mind sharing that story with our listeners. Yeah share so it's Actually my experience growing up was pretty normal. You know my parents. My family is access to a lot of food. And they provided us with a variety of healthy and what we all not so healthy food And we had pretty regular access taller that And then as i went through puberty and started gaining weight There was a lot of outside noise from family and friends from encouraging. Dieting All the time that i was really fortunate enough that my parents did not encourage me to go on a diet and it did allow me to have that same access to the food that i had had previous to my weight gain and i think that was really beneficial in helping me to develop that really good relationship with food

Aaron Gordon Makes His Debut for the Nuggets Against the Hawks

"All right. Get into a little bit of basketball here. Aaron gordon the big acquisition at the deadline for the denver nuggets made his debut sunday verse. The hawks a solid debut might look the line and say thirteen points on six of nine shooting. That is exactly what the nuggets want. He played really well off to coca shed a beautiful dunk on the baseline. This is what they want him to be. They want him to be a cutter playing with better players for the first time in his career. I mean he's played with better players and vuckovich but not a player. I'm nicola yokich is standards. I just wondered when aaron gordon went over to the nuggets. Would he be able to cut that dribbling out. He played more like a superstar more ball in his hands. I'm going to do this thing on my own. Can he be a support player. He used nicole yoga's gravity pretty well in this game they will pick and roll action going nine shots. The only misses were from three point. Land the more tuesday better with aaron gordon. But he if he can fill that jeremy grant role that they lost last year in the playoffs. Just be that guy who's a third option and hit shots. I mean that is absolutely

Crows hold grudges

"Often hold grudges against specific people. What they're very good at recognizing people's faces found to remember people for a long time. I believe that cruiser creepy hell. Okay but i need. I've i've gotten like side eye glances from them. And i've just been like hello. You have it like. I need to find out if hawks do. Because i yelled at one. We were outside in our backyard. Taking pictures as we do and taryn does happens to look up and sees a giant hawk. Yarn a giant giant store excise the giant hawk standing on a telephone pole in the corner of our yard. Like that's like in the middle of like a bunch of homes and we remember one. We have a bunch of little dogs in the house. We panic and we go and lock the door and then we remember like my neighbor has chicken chicken. That thousand percents chicken. Yeah so actually. We'll post this. We'll prove it. I video of taron just screaming at the hawk. And it's the funniest thing on trying to find out is my life and that's basically why struggle going to survive. Are we gonna serve anyway. Yeah it was a little scary though because like at one point the hawk look straight at me and like all. Its like rough. Left up I that was when i was like. They're like they're like fight stances they get themselves looking bigger. Yeah and then. Like flew over me. And i was like. I don't think he could kill me. But i lose an i. It was terrifying because it wasn't a fly. It was like a slow swoop kind of down towards us but then inevitably it went above was a threat. It was a threat dot. sir. I saw

"hawks" Discussed on The NBA Show

"In and takes a team that seemed like it was basically falling apart and makes them almost immediately competent rattling off seven games in a row. So my question to you. Kevin is are all bad teams. Just a nate mcmillan away from being good. I mean a only ever team could have a nate mcmillan curse. The nba would be a better league Would atlanta i think certain teams are coach away. But there's not many of them though with atlanta their issues like that athletic story about new. The problems that player had with with lloyd pier seemed very much to do with def- definition of roles and just the the relationship person to person i camera had that quote in this will not a quote but like the behind the scenes quote anonymous quote about him not feeling like he was valued felt like he was gonna pick don mcmillan seems to have a better relationship with these guys and as a coach like i don't i don't see many changes from assistant point of view with what it lands doing. That's what i was wondering. Yeah like there's definitely differences with when he called the time out and his rotations and that stuff matters right like a lot. There was a part in athletic story that you're referencing where they mentioned a game that louis pierce was absent from while he was still the coach mcmillan coached for him and that it was strikingly obvious that like just minor rotational things and just timeout calls and it just that that game management stuff that. I don't think that we really as a fan. I don't really notice that that much. I sometimes i get like. I do pick up on rotation stuff but when to have a time out and stuff like that especially for a young team that are susceptible to giving up chunks of points on defense. You gotta know how to manage that right yet. No doubt about it and you know. There's a couple of instances in a game earlier this week. Where the other teammate. Iran and mcmillan calls a timeout after five points. Not waiting for it to get ten dollar ron. Eleven run twelve all run. He tries to end it early. And i think all these little things are adding up to help. And you're also seeing you're seeing guys get minutes at weren't getting minutes before like nathan night. I know silly to say he's just a role player. But nathan night looked pretty good in. Preseason had a really good game early in the year and then he never played at all and now he's getting consistent minutes. Having great night's shooting threes attacking close had a big dunks a poster every night. It seems and i think sometimes you know coaches. Can they fail the self scouts their roster and mcmillan has suddenly shifted bad in terms of rotations. And who's getting minutes and that's all helping and part of it though it. Obviously lloyd pierce had his issues. The coach these guys have also grind party. You feel like he just didn't ever had a chance to succeed like there's so many guys out early in the year i feel bad. I feel bad for pierce. No i mean go. Look at their schedule. They you wanna you wanna see the hawks season and nutshell go. Look at bogey bogdanovich gamache. Because there's something like four and four or four and five when he goes down. He misses february. Did they go into the tank. He comes back and then grow. I mean he's not necessarily the only reason i happened. Obviously that coincided with with with nate it coincided with them getting a little healthier although they also lose They lose reddish in that time they've lost reddish and hunter and he'll be back soon hopefully. Yeah but i think that there's definitely something to be said for the fact that pierce never really got to play with his full roster at all and was blamed a lot for things that are out of his control like injuries. I guess i was going to ask you did you. When you watch mcdonagh vich play for them. I was watching the las vegas the thunder. And i thought i kind of one thing that i think they've had a lot of issues with what to do and off the court on off. Numbers are pretty pretty striking. But i saw them playing in a little bit of like a kind of shadow trae role last when he was playing with the second unit. And that was part of the plan you know when they got him a to happen. Be that guy who can win. He shares the floor with trae. Push them off ball. A little bit still primarily. Be the guy coming off screens and handoffs and cut into the rim. That's what bogdanovich so good at. But what's long been underrated with him. As his ability on the ball and his ability to create and having that guy i they they signed rondo to who has not been quite the same as he was in the playoffs. Last gallows for a gallo of course was out to and wasn't the same until recently gala has produced the gallon ari that we know but bogdanovich. Who more you can get out of him as a playmaker and i even now like a glass game gave a preview but i still get excited about what bogdanovich and trae young could potentially be if trae can be maximized off the ball. That was what i was gonna. I was going to ask you this. Do you see a little hardened kyrie. They're like not obviously anywhere near as good as those guys but using trae in that sort of kyrie off ball way the way the nets are currently using it and giving bogdonovich a little bit more playmaking responsibility. I'd love to see it. I still say with trae young. He's brilliant on the ball. That goes without saying. I mean averaging nearly thirty points is such a young player in the last couple of years and the the ability create for others is is elite but to take that next stop. I think offenses nowadays the best offenses can beat you in different ways and have different guys who can simple say but shoot passenger bill. You know just the basics of offense and if you have a number of those guys who can do that trae young is going to have to make himself a threat off the ball. He's already a threat to shoot from thirty four feet if he can also become a guy who can run off a screen and come off a hand off during a three. I would love to see trae. Bring the steph qualities his game more so than be like the harden or be the dame he can do that too and it's no knock against those guys but for atlanta when you have a six foot one hundred eighty pound point guard. I love to see some more variety with how they use them in a guy like bogdanovich. That's sort of what you need. That sort of what you want next to trae So for them. I think that's on trade adapt and embrace that but also for macmillan push them in that direction and maybe maybe when you're winning more games it's easier to have a guy like trae.

"Upside to to lose but i don't want to. I hate us talking people off like locker room cancers like those type of people and i don't wanna go there with them. I just want them to just work it out. Yeah my concern. Would collins would be the price you pay to keep. Them is actually way more than you would want. And that he would wind up. T- tying up too much money for your team when you could play around with with that with that cash otherwise but i think he stays. I just like watching him in trade to play together. It's so interesting to know that they might not like each other because like those are just like one of the best things in the nba. right now. yeah it's it's really good. There's like big a energy on the hawks right now. Yeah and trey trey and collins feel like the to from like opposite sides of atlanta. They got put on the same youtube in there. Like the best kid from the side. The best kid from the west side but they're not used to not being dude. It's very a energy. And so i was just like. I'm just hoping nate one dislike. He's still interim i'm data. That'll change. yeah. I just hope that With this midseason coaching change in this. The streak which you know. Probably the longest winning streak. "Mlk jersey in the funniest enough efforts. I was like oh. That's like a rock and jock eight. You dunk on someone with two hands in mlk jersey. Okay yeah he he's got to make it to at least a playoff squad. We can't lose them. He's got he's got too much of the right energy for me. What about john the baptist. Because he's he's the guy who because he's a restricted free agent and. I think that there's been some talk about. Other teams have an interest in him. Specifically the wolves which i thought was kind of weird. But he's the guy who i think has been most vocal when it comes to the trae stuff and just like this is not necessarily trays team. Like i might be better than him. You didn't say that but like you can kind of get the vibe from john collins. he's like this is my team. Like maybe john. Maybe he doesn't have a twitter account or cable subscription under the impression that he is the hawks franchise player. He's like like north korea. he's only getting. John collins idea that anyone else could shown on sportscenter. Yeah you know. I'm hoping that with big nate. At the helm dismay be deals with some of the collins issues. Because i'd hate for. There's something about drama ruining a not great team. That's not allowed like like. I need the big personalities to stay on like big teams like for us. It's like we don't have time for big personalities. We need to try to score more points than the other team. Every game like we just need to focus on the nuts and bolts of winning consecutive basketball games. And i've just been hoping all year that i think collins has too much.

"That may be pierce wasn't doing. I don't know if that's a fair assessment. Though yeah i also yeah. It seems like well the thing about natives funny like he really didn't seem like he wanted the job. Yes like y'all like. I really don't have to do this. Like lloyd was kinda of dude. I'm not even looking to be a head coach really right now. So he doesn't seem like that proud in his system is is just like you know like you know if something's not working let's stop it immediately and jazz something else. Which doesn't seem to be a hallmark of the loyd pier system that you had nice runs but also had us losing three games in a row like often kept being on three games kids. I think it happened like three or four times. Yeah i was. I was looking. Because when i got to atlanta a couple months ago. We were in eleventh Couple of weeks ago. We were in eleventh place in the any. Yeah like like you were saying with just This run there now. Mike fifth place right. It's which is how it's gonna go until the end of the season that we like we. There's no telling how this team is up But it is nice to see them at least show some life and get spoken about again. 'cause we were getting to that point in the season where like people forget that. The hawks are team. Even though like you know the hawks went on a skid. That was such a weird skit. Like trae young just suddenly didn't become an all star anymore. People like who is also getting blamed. I think you know fairly or unfairly for like the tendencies in modern basketball like this kid is emblematic of everything that's wrong with contemporary nba ball. Which like you know whether it's the mimicking of steps like deep shooting is one thing but like the constant foul hunting and they complaining a lot which is something that luke does too so it's not like it's exclusive to trade bitch and moan about calls but i wanted to ask you this. You said that your text threat was called five hundred or better and the guy is kind of like i. I am also a fan of mediocre basketball teams. I don't think there's any shame in being okay. Is that enough for you. Like you came from the highs of the bud era which were actually weirdly. Probably a little bit more. I would imagine disorienting because you were so good in the regular season. And then lebron just just wipe your face off your head to go from that. And then there's some years in the wilderness. And now you're back. If macmillan gives you gives you a pacers esque existence of like five hundred or better. It may be getting too deep into a first round series if not even a second round series in. The playoffs is an acceptable hawks. Existence for you. I think that's not. Because i think we've actually started to believe in puzzle pieces actually coming together right to become one of those like sixers teams or one of those teams that like we don't have to fully tank. We could actually just like you know. Go braves on. It didn't have like a farm system that actually works with like this kind of ragtag collection of people. I don't think five hundred. I five hundred or better gets us back to those underwhelming years which is like we're good but who cares and i've always thought like we're good. Who cares doesn't work for atlanta sports like nobody. Nobody goes. yeah. I would rather out to some degrees sometimes. I'd rather flashy and terrible but like relevant than you know the perennial seven c that gets beat by like the nets for the next four years. Like that might be a really bummer existence. I'd rather just like not. Watch the hawks for five years and focus on something else. So you know. I think it lands in this weird cycle of like the falcons are just like not a team to think about right now. So now it's like okay now. I really got to focus on the hawks now. People are caring about the hawks because a and all this other stuff so just be mediocre. Feels kind of a bummer. Is he the biggest atlanta athlete. Now he is right. Yeah yea like.

"Answer. My name is chris ryan. I'm your host and this week. The hawks exclamation question-mark. That's the question. What's up with the hawks. They just rattle off seven rope not against exactly the justice league they beat some teams handily handled the thunder last night recording this on friday morning the last night they they beat the thunder by double digits. They ll competent. Under nate mcmillan day seemed to be playing with a lot more chemistry and harmony than they were under louis pierce. They're getting some guys back from injury. Like book donovan. Who seems to be playing at his his his real like sacramento heights right now. So you're seeing exactly. Why traverse gm in the hawks went after bogey to come in energize that that offense and he's doing some really interesting things with the second unit. But the reason why. I wanted to talk about them. Is that. It's really easy to give up on teams in the league you know. I think it's really easy to see a team. Kind of start to nosedive. Put them in. The do not remind me to watch this team on the league. Pass the anti leap pass rankings. You might check in on trae young a little bit but like there's really no reason to and then because these teams are so bunched together this year. Because you've got so many teams like in around a couple of games under five hundred or right around five hundred if you do what. The hawks just did which is rattle off seven in a row all of a sudden your fifth place in the eastern conference. That's all it takes and i was really fascinated by this transformation because it's a transformation that happened. Pretty subtly with nate mcmillan. Coming in to replace louis pierce. I want to talk to my buddy. Remember brown who is a native of atlanta hawks fan about feels to be cheering for this up and down team this season and then i wanted to talk to kevin o'connor from the ringer a little bit about what nate mcmillan is done. Here and what traverse. Gm is kind of building towards. Because i think what his plan for. The team is kinda unique among a lot of teams. You're seeing a guy who drafted trae young. In the year the luka doncic draft which will probably be debated for the next ten years and then subsequently he's been drafting almost for fit and he's been drafting for role players. He's not always drafting for maximum upside dude. No matter what we already have on the roster it seems like he's putting together a team on the fly out of the draft which is not something you see all the time. So we'll talk to kevin especially since we have the draft guide coming up with the draft. Guide is up on the right now. A wanted to see what kept thought. About what travis link has been doing. So let's get into the answer and figure out what's going on with the hawks. I want to talk about the hawks. There's only one person. I wanted to talk about them with its brown. What's up man. My guy is so good to talk to you to talk about my favorite thing to talk about. When things are going immediately well let me talk. Hyperbolic about the hawks. And there's nothing that makes you happier. That streaking hawks. He's showed up at my phone a striking hawk and now we're talking about the hawks. I can't wait so you were saying. When was the last time you talked about the hawks any kind of professional capacity so it was. It was really funny. I was doing some promotion for the podcast. I was doing over the holidays about the georgia flipping blue gaining ground. I was like eleanor out. I just wanna talk to everyone in atlanta about this and talked about the hawks on january first when they were four in one and the group tax a group tax literally of like nine of us. It's called five hundred or better. Which is what we want for the hawks and yeah i was saying some wild stuff. I said you know lloyd. Pierces of molder of men In that he was gonna take this to the province lead. I was like. I was just saying everything that i typically say when in atlanta sports team is doing well which is like this is the year and then immediately fell off the rails immediately started getting injuries immediately. Were soon after that started to become athletic tells about dissension within the locker room. Trae young john collins dot getting along do just getting hurt for extended periods of time loses his job. Nate mcmillan comes in and granted against a pretty light schedule. The hawks aka the hawks which i saw them referred to on peachtree hoops which i'm one hundred percent approval rating at that. Love the nate hawks on dates. They go on a seven game winning streak and either about to walk right into a buzzsaw with a with a trip. Which and then also golden state denver phoenix. I'm not even sure what we're going to be if we did this. Podcast in two weeks. I don't know how you'd be feeling you. Just do this. Podcast in two weeks. I would do it when things are just so incredible. We have to talk about it right then at the you watch. The hawks debut the thunder last night. I usually very competitive thunder team that they completely handled them. Wooded you see last night. What did you like that you saw when you were watching the hawks so there is a version of the hogs that i love wishes one that i genuinely feel like even when they get down. They believe the game's over. And i can see a lot on. I feel like offense. They're always just excited to be playing basketball but also defense. It's like hey defense excited to be playing offense. There's like oh like we could actually get a stop and play more often instead of out. This is when they come score on us and now we have to go score again or we're going to go down again. So that's what. I've seen progressively in the to quote the atlanta hawks. Twitter handle the asia. Www www w k ass distract. Yes seventy game like. what's that about. Well it's weird. I love with concerts at so bunched up like that. Though if you put together seven wins you are in fifth place. The hawks they get out from under this plan stuff now granted. They could go out and lose five of their next seven and be back where they started with this. But i think one thing that i've seen with macmillan so far as he knows how to stop the bleeding when it happens like he can he just kinda like take care of problems on the fly in a way..

"How he was fired Especially after being given an extension. I think that was a bit of an organizational mishap in a bit. Is you know underselling but I think you look at it and everything that came out after some of the some of the issues that they came out locked room with similar to with void. Like i think if if there's no internal strife in lock rumor issues with not even that there were issues between the macmillan in the players but just basically from my understanding and reporting this come out. There were significant issues in the locker room between players and he wasn't stepping in to take care of any of it because that's not nate's mo he's never been that kind of coach And that was a big reason for why he ended up not being part of the pacers anymore. So it's just kind of a little bit of an interesting parallel and how that's partially. Why not there. And now nate's there and then you talk about not fixing the offense or fixing the defense at all or not not not necessarily changing. I think i should say That's what i find particularly interesting and also slightly frustrating looking at the hawks and this hiring because natives good coach. And i think in some regards. He'll make a lot of sense for the hawks. Like you mentioned. He's fantastic at getting the most out of his players. And i think that accounts for a lot more than people realize. Especially when you're a team that's not a contender in the moment or you're you're trying to just become a competent winning organization but then you talk about not being necessarily dynamic with the offense which was an issue for the pacers. His entire tenure. That's been like. I mentioned my frustration with the hawks. Like i think you make some of the moves that trash does in the offseason. I personally did not love the danilo. Gallinari move i know. A lot of people are not as in on that now because of how he's played But i did really enjoy the move for bogdan bogdonovich. Obviously christiaan was a fun signing. I was a little bit more. Lukewarm on rondo But looking at bogdonovich. Specifically i mean i think that was where you saw maybe opportunities to get trae off ball or just opportunities to have somebody else running the offense and that really just hasn't taking place this year and i don't know how much you can necessarily put that on on entree or lloyd but regardless. I don't know how much nate's going to be able to change that because that was an issue frozen tire. Time with the pacers yeah. It's really interesting that a lot of this is just twitter in a lot of ways but A lot of the complaints were about pierce's offensive approach in a lot of ways. And i don't really i never really understood it. I guess i want someone that. The hawks offense around young At when it doesn't look good it doesn't look very good at it. Looks stagnant and part of that is because you're building the ship around one guy and that's documented they you know that's what happens when you have a player like him That you have to do that. And he got knocked for that a lot. But in actuality. The hawks have been really good on offense. Yeah whatever training plays like pretty much you know for both years especially this year. The hawks have above average offense overall. And it's even better than that when trae place so you can say it's kind of hit minutes or you could say that it's stagnant but it does work and changing mcmillan is not gonna fix that. He's not known for his innovation. Offensively and the hawks. Just yeah i mean you you. You mentioned the gary stuff you know. I didn't love that..

"Coach But you could tell okay normally if that kind of move happens you know there's a there's something there it's not like a for sure but given how the year started out. I wasn't entirely surprised that it happened. The timing was Abysmal in terms of an organizational sense But overall i mean what are your thoughts so far had it into the naming owner. 'cause i know they've actually started off fairly well with him and he coached the a couple of games will Loyd was out with his wife for birth of his kid. Which makes it even more. Just gosh uncomfortable. You're yeah yeah i remember. It's it actually. It sounds terrible. But i thought about it. As soon as the team announced that he was going to be taking some time off to go back in be there for the birth of his his child. I was like wow. This is probably not great for him. Right now Just in terms of job since And ended up being kind of the case but yeah start long winded wave. Where were you kinda out with that. They they went to one and that i stretch with me at the helm to and since he's taken over. There's there's some noise in that like there's this. I'm not even sure if it's a joke anymore. I think it might be some people being serious. And some people joking and now it's mixed into one as you probably understand about how mcmillan's just turned everything relevant his own basically atlanta which is just not the case because no. No coach could do that that quickly. But yeah i mean. The hawks have made the move I think no one always that. I've talked to was surprised that lloyd was fired At some point just because he was clearly not. He was not in a stable position between his contract. Be after season The fact that there was all kinds of well-publicized stuff where trade and had the best relationship all of that kind of stuff. You know it was you you could read. The degree leaves also about that. So nola surprised that he was fired. I think the timing was surprising in that. They fired him. Two games before the all-star break.

"Don't be up that /capspace your else. Let them know that you came from us. I'd Sunday night edition of the pod. Continue our I guess we could call it season wrapup series but it's It's cooler than that Certainly but We got the best guy to talk about the Atlanta Hawks. A fascinating team this season. And I also think going for we're GONNA hit on all of those aspects of the Hawks Brad role how you doing. I'm hanging in there. As you said it's been sort of a fascinating season Both for good. And for ill for this hawks team so a lot to dig into appreciate you having me man. Oh Yeah of course always good to get into it with you a on the hawks. Oh where I wanted to start with this team as we look back on it they were. GonNa get in front of me here. Twenty and forty seven at the beginning of the hiatus would your grade B for this Atlanta Hawks season. Compared to your expectations I will. I will say for a bad team. This is actually harder than I thought it was going to be too great it and I hadn't thought about this I land somewhere around C. minus range because on one hand the stuff that actually matters for the future like the young guys and especially trae young that was not a bad necessarily outcome overall. But on the other hand the team sal the underperformed their vegas over under and some of the baselines that you would look at and the roster building was. Kinda strange so I think it has to be a below average mark but I also. I'm sort of conflicted because I guess the most important thing on the rosters trio making a leap so that kind of brings it up a little bit. I'll still land slightly negative though around minus range. Yeah I think that makes sense right because you're I mean. Trey really came on John. Collins got suspended for twenty five games. That's that's probably going to hurt your grade a little bit. But I thought that he played about his was you could hope to once he actually was available again. Cam Reddish had a terrible start to the year. But I don't think anyone's expecting him to be great and he showed some signs. We'll talk about that The Andre Hundred. Maybe a little disappointing especially considering that They traded up to get him and he he was really supposed to be a part of this future out if he showed that. And then obviously the compared to expectations. My expectations were that they're going to have big time problems at backup center and backup point guard and with these rookie wings and that all happened. So they really. I guess what I would say is I would give trae young. And A and like the rest of the team a D. minus but trae young is the most important thing about the future. See I think C. minus makes sense to me. That's about right. I mean there are some positives and Trae by far the biggest positive but and I also agree that you know the expectations. I would say it kind of depends on what you thought of the team coming into the year I think some of the outside factors were a little bit higher but even even the teams internal expectations were more modest than the vegas over under. Was traveling spin on the record. Multiple Times saying the heat He and the analytics team had about thirty win projection. Hey Look I knew just how damaging it was going to beat to not have a backup point guard. Were well aware coming in. Our expectations are much lower. I'm with you one hundred percent on this. We realized this preseason to we. We both talked about how we're the supporting cast was and that's GonNa come up again. I'm sure on this podcast but Yeah it's sort of mixed bag all the way around. So let's talk about trae young and would you say that he. I mean when we talk before the season we talked about him potentially leading the NBA and assist which Shaikh leadoff given. How good he was did not happen. I mean it shouldn't shock but It was that we were hired him and in that way we thought he'd be good but he didn't. Those wanted it didn't turn out. But what was it about? His Performance. This year that enabled him to go to the next level. And be an all-star starter. We were so far off with trae. He that he finished second 'cause liberal Lebron actually had the highest rate of his career which is coming but The going back to Trae I think the biggest jump that he made and it was a jump over all to be sure the passing was kind of already there but just being able to maintain what was essentially a league efficiency. He fell off a little bit down the stretch but even still essentially average thirty points and nine assists with about fifty nine sixty percent true shooting and that is just kind of speaks for itself. I know I know there are issues with him. Defensively and the team was so heavily based around him but there are not a lot of guys who could carry the usage rate in the low that he carried and still maintain that level efficiency in addition to an elite level. Passer so I think all offensively he basically made the biggest joke that you could possibly foreseen and I think even internally I have a hard time believing that they saw this coming year too because if they did they probably would have built a little bit more feverishly to win now so you know just the fact that he was able to shoot the ball more consistently and better to the line so often and kind of be that. Um that BS fouls rubber draw. You talked about a lot on the podcast. But he's just sort of this offensive engine that I think he was billed to be when they drafted him eventually. Year to being this good Almenda. The floor is something they just couldn't have seen coming to have thirty five percent usage. Which is a massive number of Michael Jordan? Kobe Bryant ask number and we are in this situation now where stars able to ramp up their usage perhaps more than ever before with the amount of spacing that we have but to have that kind of usage and then also forty five percent free throw rate for a guy who's not exactly like a power driver getting to the line and finishing over people and that's That's very impressive. It does make you wonder if they ever got into a playoff setting of teams are really locked in on not following him kind of James Harden likely would his vision. See go down. But that's That's not a concern as of right now for this hawks team and the only thing that really sticks out that he needs improve is the turnovers and perhaps if they get a little bit more ron him where he doesn't have to create everything he can get a little bit more efficient in that area so yeah he was fantastic Would you say other than the fact that Trae Young Is really you know moving into where being close to an all? Nba Level a player. Would you say are the biggest things that this team learned this year? I think that's the most important one. But even beyond that and we sort of alluded to it earlier. I think I would hope that they learn the importance of having Mba Quality. Players up and down the roster. Not even really I mean it's it's funny but the fact that this was so foreseeable that they were gonNA be. And it's not just trays on off numbers. But Trade. Off Number so glaring. There was nothing behind him for most of the season. But I think for like two start an era but like two three months into the season. They've got like a ninety two offensive rating when he's off the floors of Atlantic up a little better when t got there but it was It was ugly. It really was and it was so foreseeable. I mean I think people that up down the whether you were in Atlanta or not paying attention closely to the roster. It was just something that was upset projectable. That would happen so I'm hoping that the front office figure that out as well and I think this is sort of the same thing but they also diagnosed pretty clearly during season at center was going to be a problem for them. And they were linked Andre Drummond for however long that ended up happening in the ended up swinging the trade for Clint Cappella And you know in. In the meantime they sent out the only guy that actually was playing competent minutes limits. Senator and Alex Len but he's going to be free agent to and wasn't necessarily starting center moving forward if he knew that so. I I think just the importance of death. I think they probably also knew that giving so many minutes to the rookies early was going to not be a good thing on the court of it probably sort of towing that line of the importance of the future and investing in these players versus actually winning now and I think they did know deep down. This was not going to be a great roster this season but they also just made it so tough to evaluate certain players by just basically putting a couple of positions entirely backup point guard especially and even the supporting veterans. They had elsewhere. You Know You. Allen Crabs and your. Vince Carter's was actually. This was still playing at age. Forty two forty three and not playing very well etc. They just kind of had so many holes that it makes it difficult to evaluate their own players. And it's also a pretty clear nation as as to why they struggled so much. Yeah and definitely. I was critical. That and I think some people might be like well. Hey you know in your philosophy that it's just useless to chase the eighth seed like. Why does this really matter after all? They weren't going to do anything if they're in the playoffs. The seed was artificially bad this year even for the Eastern Conference if it was even remotely competent to get there even if they fill those wholesome they're not getting their of so. I understand that thought but it was just. There's no reason not to do it. You know they're citing Jabari Parker for six million dollars for no reason right like there's and just even get a semi competent backup or especially at center where you've got plenty of options available Ain't though to destroy it and just like you're seeing that the way they were losing gained started to wear on trae young it may have started to wear according to reports on the relationship between trae young and Lloyd Pierce and so it's not like especially with the new draft format. It's not like they're going to get some awesome pick anyway this year And so you might. As well have filled those holes I think ultimately especially because they made a bunch of other moves. That were kind of like. Oh they are actually trying to get better. But then others weren't really consistent with that and that seems like that's very traffic light to me right like it's really hard for me to figure out what he what his philosophy is like. He'll make a lot of moves where he's just taking And trying to build up the asset base but then he makes a move like throwing all the chips in for de'andre honor so I i. It's really hard. He's a very inconsistent. Gm When you look at evaluating his move. I totally agree and you know there are some of them. That are very clear as to what you're doing like for instance last summer they take on Allen Crab and get basically two first round picks they sent her in Princeton Brooklyn. That was a move that was clearly future facing and I thought it was a pretty good value decision. They didn't love what Prince was going to give them long term. They didn't WANNA pay him and ended up with two first round picks. And that's actually a good use of resources but then you turn around and buy even even someone who likes down one hundred like do. You've pretty clearly overpay in that trade even even in the moment For a guy who's going to be a role player for you. It's just a lot of pluses and minuses. That Jabari Parker thing. Baffled me as well I would have talk about that too much but it was very clear very quickly. They didn't make a lot of sense and they plan on it only a few months time. It's just it it is kind of mixed signals that they put forth and I do find myself kind of picturing how bad things would have been this year for the Hawks have trae young. Didn't make the leap mate because they were already pretty bad And it concerned that no one projected that if he had just been marginally better than your one still been a good still been a good useful future facing player for the tea but not necessarily this breakout star. It would be even more vexing in some ways because at least now they know and they can sort of bank on and claim having this number one offensive engine that they're very confident and because they've already seen this happen they didn't have that it would be even more confusing to me so anything else that pops out to you. The team learned about adult this year. I mean it's it's interesting. I think they learned a some stuff about the young guys. But we'll probably get into later. It was kind of stagnant. But it was about what you would expect. Maybe a little bit below what you would expect for Gaza. Kevin hurter indie Andrei Hunter. I don't think it's panic. Time for either one of those guys but not necessarily a huge jump for her from year one year. Two Hunter as an older rookie. I think people thought he might be a little bit better than he was. And I saw this coming a mile away when he was when when a trade happened. But you you compare what they traded for him and the fact that you have this top five sheen of being this high draft. Pick people start to think that you're going to be better than you're going to be. That's not his fault but I thought he was just okay. He wasn't terrible but he wasn't great. Either they just you know they learned about John Collins. That's something that I wanted to point out to..

"Ourselves a chance every single year. Rosters not good enough for that right now. They're roster is without Russell Wilson Mediocre when we talk about a million times last year. They've got some depth now which is good. I mean they've got some of those things that you need to have in order to be successful but if in order to go from good to great or back for good for go back to great from good and they need more than need. What the quarterback said. At the end of the year they need superstars. You need superstars now. This is dangerous. This is a dangerous play. The you're asking like this is not a formula. That's worth dangerous. This is not a formula. That's worked for others people in this league typically. Don't spend their way in this first wave in championships right the most of the teams that we look back on. Go Oh my gosh. Look at that team that won March so we look back on in January. Yeah I'm I'm really glad you one march. I'm really glad you added a you. Know those those four ten to fifteen million dollar guys and they better work in the better be healthy they better be right but you better be the absolute financially. Those teams don't have another component. That you need either. They don't have the right quarterback or they don't have the right coach or they don't have the right depth usually and you know you kind of go through those super teams that get created in March. They are missing one or two or three of those other major components as we put together super table. Who's the coach Ron Rivera exam? We have great defensive line that we spend tons of money on their all. Veterans are all stars. They're terrible renovators coach together. Unfortunately it's Marvin Jones. It's just it's not going to work. We've got Marvin Jones. But yeah they got all this Great Brak. We've seen that a million times or they put together all the guys at the top and it comes at the expense of everybody at the bottom couple players. Get hurt and the next thing you know. That team doesn't have a shot. Or they put it all together for Ryan Tannehill and you're like well no kidding. It didn't work. You had Ryan Tannehill. He turns out he's not very good. There are teams that spend big and win last year. Was the chiefs the year before that it was the rams by two years before that once you have what you're talking about that baseline formula and ready to go. Seahawks have the quarterback. They have the coach and they have the death. They got the quarterback. They've got the coach and they've got the depth the next thing and an arguably the only other thing they need are the stars to go the with that group. Okay and you feel like there are stars in this free agents. I don't know that's on you to tell me how to tell me there are now. That's on John Schneider and Pete Carroll like do you believe these guys are stars amount was up in their chest bumping Ziggy Ansah. As I think a lot of people were excited when Ziggy was signed. Look at his numbers. Still even the games that he played people in this guy was a this guy was a pro born. This guy's a great player in this guy's got every physical till you want and he was here in in Egypt unfortunately that shoulder and his body and his wants. Who weren't there anymore right so is in Gakugei guy. That's going to come in here and play with his hair on fire. Or is he going to be a guy that gets his twenty million? Like if I'm good I'm glad I finally got mine. You don't former third round pick. I haven't got my now. I got mine. Am I going to be his relentless in my pursuit David Clowney? Who's climbed to climb the client? I want my security man. I want my sixty million in the bank. GimMe my money. Would he play through a sports? Her elbow injury would play through those things when he has sixty million in the bank. I mean those are the questions. I can't answer them. None of us in this room can answer them and John. Peet better be able to get. Their job is absolutely their job but that they're in. I think some of the danger when it comes to free agency unlike the draft. Where if I get eleven bites at the Apple Okay? I'll get a decay metcalf. Okay I can find a title I can find a Frank Clark I can find. Obviously hit home runs early and big reason why we won the Super Bowl homeroom Sherman and homeland with Russ and homer. Bobby and it can take you know. Take some more at it. You you spend on a couple of big superstars here right in in wave number one especially in howdy are kept colleges will tell you that money starts to in. That budget starts to dissipate pretty quickly. Right I mean you what. What are you looking at right now? If you're going to spend in the first wave right do you think and I've heard this conversation or station. You think it's realistic to sign both clowney and in Gakugei. No just because the thing it requires the trades and the like I. I've sort of discounted him. If if you wanted in Goch way. I think you just sign cloudy guys. You don't understand the point of giving up a first round. Pick or whatever else to get a guy that is marginally better than what you've got if it because Kepala g wise you can do this. You could absolutely get both of them. You can move that money around. You can give him a big cash bonus you can move around in that first year just like Frank. Clark hosted the idiot. Both I don't like the idea of letting clowney go beginning Gakugei. That doesn't make sense to me. But I mean if you go for your biggest team absolutely go for. Let's play to start this podcast so I'm frustrated. I wanted to go time like we are going to go for the second biggest ways. I look at all these free agent names. I don't see it receiver. Kenyan Drake is nice. There's some Some decent linemen But if you really WanNa go for you WanNa address the biggest single need on this team. Then make sure you get cloudy done and you make this trade for an Gakugei and now you've got to book ends at least on paper right okay. I'm ready to roll. Can I afford that? You absolutely have to. We're going to do if the trade and all the rumors recently about Sally's right. Cloudy makes some around nineteen million dollars now. Somehow I don't know how but and then Gakugei get signed for eighteen or nineteen million on an extension. So you're at thirty six to forty somewhere in that range you give up a first and second you trade up in the second with the jags. So you'd basically one pick and you get cloudy and Gaag Way and you still got. Twenty million dollars has been in free agency. I mean that's your big play offers for a pass. Rusher is so frustrating. When you just gave a pass rusher for I what we do and do. We have a plan here. Are we just going year by year? Well last year. We don't need Frank Clark. We'd rather have the first this year. We'll give up the first to get a pass rusher when we already had a pass rusher and Frank Clark. I think they'd entrust assigning frank long-term though I think I think that was specific to him. I don't think it was about the position to be working out. Fine for the chiefs. It was okay miscarry misjudge. They might have been wrong. And that's very possible they. I don't think they trusted him. I certainly didn't and I think I might have been wrong to. He played other Guy Yup that they could trust. Yeah they they may have gotten that one wrong. That's absolutely policy. Also a chip in order to trade down they had to use that premium of a pass rusher because they were stuck because of other moves they were stuck. They had four picks. Going into last year's draft Schneider sat with us about a year ago right and they were stuck there at four picks because of a leak McDowell and because he had to trade for Dwayne Brian. We're just in a stuck spot and they didn't have four picks VAC. Nobody has absolutely well. Yeah absolutely and now you find yourself out of that you've gotten out of that hole you had to give up Frank Clark in order to do but you found yourself out of that hole you reset and now you can forward and if you want to go and get in Gawk way to go with To go with cloudy into that if you WANNA get one of those other guys or two of them too I mean I I you know me blog I liked the idea of Clowney plus Fowler plus consultant. You get flown in like all these draft consultants right all these guys and former. Gm's and scouts and everything else working all these different organizations because consultants is the wave of the future. And I think with this virus. Everybody's basically consultant homework. Now right so you're consulting gets invited in flown in though I gotta drive. I'm on I'm on Microsoft Telecom telecommute into this Braga you just do video what do you WanNa do? Do you want volume saw? You want us to spend what you WANNA do. I want him between the premium. The premium most expensive. Here you go. Here's your biggest chance to superstars is going to be gone away and cloudy. Or do you want one of those superstars and more volume and get two or three or two of these other families get it depends how you characterize the volume. I'm great with getting to superstars but I'm also great with getting one superstar and two other very good players. I'm not okay with signing one of them and then finding trash like i. I'M NOT GONNA go garbage eating like howdy seriously. So depends what I I and I you know you tell me. Visi doesn't play hard. Okay fine. Maybe he's not the guy but but what I want is either to proven stars one on each side who can get after the quarterback together and then the third guy in can be the regime green or whoever else you're able to find maybe Somebody develops along the way or whatever or I want one superstar and two borderline stars right to guys. That are good kind of creating what you did with with Bennett and eva role in clemens in Irvine and all those guys get after passer. Here's here's door number one door number to see all right. Here's door number one. I'M GONNA just to keep it. Simple waves first-wave second-wave third wife right. We know what I have is. Those deals are done before the league gear begins a tampering over this upcoming weekend. We're going to hear leaked contract. Won't one I wave to second okay. So here's your here's your doors you get to first waivers which is going to be cloudy and and Gakuen you've got to first waivers you get no second wave but then you can fill in with four third waves. You can fill with four other two million dollar guys. Three million dollar guy's got an offensive. Lineman four third wavers or you get one first wave you get three second wave and you get to third way. I'm good with that. So six overall guys in free agency you want to at the very top and then fill in in that third way with four other guys or we'll go one there and then I'm going to get two or three second waves and two or three third. I'm honestly fine with both of those options. I think they're both good. Because what we've seen in the past is zero first waivers. Maybe one second waiver and like nine third wavers and guys that are limping around at the end of the year. That's been careful what we're saying because I think people think like Oh yeah. They've gone second wave every year. No they've done third and fourth way of every every getting Eddie Lacy would know team's GonNa look at that guy or getting Luke's yokel off the scrap heap. Those guys were getting ziggy on. Who's getting run by four? Josh mccown you want you want Lacy or you want Collins Right now. Which want Alex Collins any like? I still want Alex. Collins is Eddie Lacy Right now where we recognize walked thinking walk through the door. Come on doors French doors on. I'm fine with either of those answers. Which do you want? I don't think you can sign both those guys. I don't think that's realistic. I think you're going to be one. I waver I think you've gotta get a couple good targeted second waivers at one and be here. Okay like abandoned naval those were second-wave guy not third way new. Those second away third wavers got some issue. That's delay got torn knees. Got Weight issues got broken and the second waivers of the guy who we were talking about the other day right. Yes you're talking about last week. Yes that would be an urban. That'd be you know Jason Pierre Paul. That'd be you know one of these other offensive linemen more than likely. Yeah yeah it'll be fascinating to see which of your own by the way is Germane feddie really gonna be a I wavered. Somebody probably I'd love him. Probably God bless good for him. Yeah I think I probably lean a little bit more just because my risk tolerance always eileen a little bit more on making sure you absolutely have to get one of those first wave guys and they make sure you're still attacking it with a guy or to the Russell can think thanks can be a superstar like you bet. Yeah I think you also we talk. We started this with Russell. Getting on the phone in his different voices it. He's GONNA use to call guys and he's going to be the salesman while I also GonNa make sure if I'm Peter Jon that I'm talking to rush through this. I think west of the different phase of his career to and make sure you're engaged..

"All right so do you remember watching the muppet show now. I've seen all the movies. Okay then I think you've probably acing this character before so sam. The Eagle Right. Yeah do you remember yes ever seen him. Yes I know who you're talking about. I'm just I don't know where we're going. Okay just just go along with me for a little bit here okay. So Sam the Eagle. He's meant to be like take this representation of the American Eagle right the because he's Kinda bald yet. Not a Bald Eagle sexually. You have hit upon the issue with Sam Eagle. He's kind of really scary right. He's Thomas Alter conservative -servative disapproving nearly all the time super judgy and he would always say things like it's the American way to rationalize the things he I love but that we're really problematic. Okay which yet yes. Thank you muppet. Show for this insight. So you would totally think that he was the American Eagle. What an American Eagle a Bald Eagle? Yeah Okay Bald Eagle except for that. He's completely the wrong color. And also is a puppet definitely not modeled after a Bald Eagle. No he is in fact likely modeled after a Harvey Eagle. which is what we're going to be talking about today? All righty then here we go. It's Kassianu.

"Next year. I think it's going to be important. They've gotta think fourteen million in room. They go out and get some veterans for that benched, some mentors locked. And we saw last year with Vince Carter having a really strong role, but that's a team that's going to be fun next year. I don't know if they're quite right there. But if they can develop the follow year, eighty million in room because all these contracts are so, so cheap that they could be, you know, a destination for free agents eighty million in room, the following year for a team did now trae young, who is absolutely stepped in and played better than most people expected, and then just moved up aggressively in the draft. That's a team that, that moves up the Giti Andre hunter last night with fourth over I'll pick camera. At number ten Cam and up and down sort of one year at Duke versus the expectations. He had but obviously a talented player he could Andre and Cam combined with trae and next year you'll have eighty million dollars to spend to build around that ooh. I mean, they're taking a page right out of the seventy Sixers book. We'll we'll get a bunch of young players figure dynamic. They're just doing it faster. Really impressive move by them. It's first and last on ESPN radio. I'm Jason Fitz. Yes, we will get to by the way, just a few minutes, something that may be one of the stupidest things I've ever heard in my life and it comes from major league baseball. Major league baseball was lost their dang biness with one of the most idiotic things I've ever had. We'll do that in a few minutes. But while we're bashing people, the NBA did do one thing last night, it was awful do usually pretty good. The usually pretty good at thinking ahead, something I trash Roger Goodell about all the time, I just want I won't commissioners lease to have, you know, forward thinking that allows them to get ahead of whatever the next issue is going to be the NBA's usually really good at that last night. They had one epic fail. And it's an easily fixable fail. If you were watching the broadcast last night, you were stunned. Most of us were stunned when you saw the fourth overall pick, we told you Deandra hunter, we told you went to the hawks yet, when you're watching the broadcast you see the word Lakers, the Lakers are on the clock with the fourth overall pick what. We know days ago that the Lakers came to an agreement to trade that to the pelicans. We know hours ago, the pelicans traded that pick to the hawks. And then you see Andre hunter picked, and he walks over to Maria Taylor, who, by the way, Maria, you were spectacular last night. I don't know how she held it together and those interviews I would have been crying as you already know. But then he puts on Lakers colors puts on a Lakers colored hat, and they even joke. Well, we already know that, that you're going to be going to the hawks you worked out for Atlanta. Tell them what they mean what they mean to you. Wouldn't awkward moment? Why was that awkward moment there? Because these trades were hearing about can't be finalized until the start of the league year Bobby March, pointed on ESPN dot com. This is the league's going to have to take a hard look at changing the rules when it comes to the timing of Fisher moves around the draft and free agency. This is important had the NBA started. The new salary cap calendar before the draft the Andre hunter jerick Culver Jackson Hayes and Cameron Johnson also elected in the top eleven four of the top eleven picks would not have needed to masquerade as they walked across the stage representing teams that traded the rights elsewhere. Say huge fail not just for right now. His if your hawks fan, you are so pumped in that moment. God, we moved up to four who we take in Dion, Jay hunter. Yes. And then he walks across gets Lakers hat, but it's not just about the right now. Think about it, and a few years, when I'm watching Cleland furled shocked the world and be this epic NFL player from my beloved open raiders. What are we going to see over and over again, we're gonna see the draft broadcast or he reaches down, and he puts on a raiders as a fan. That's what you want. You want that moment where this kid that you're excited team puts on your team's hat. It might sound Tom. It might sound like it's not a big deal to a lot of you. But if you're mega fan of that team and you watch somebody get picked, and they put on the wrong colors, man. Not only. Did you lose that moment? Not only did you create something that looked awkward to into the fan base watching right now. But you also lost a historical moment to look back on it and say, man, that's my guy. And that's when my guy got drafted by my team, huge fail by the NBA and it's fixable. Get it right before next year fixed that one thing coming up next. We're gonna keep talking about the nature of the NBA draft. All morning, but man, one of the dumbest ideas, I've heard in all of sports is coming out of major league baseball. It's stupid, not tell you why. This is first and last. I'm Jason Fitz. ESP sweepstakes.

"Like we have a small point guard. We're gonna have super size wings. That is a frequent huge perimeter grew. I mean that is enormous. I just think we've been talking about this for so long. You'd need big win all. Nice can shoot three's youth threes, and defend we've talked about it, as you know, a source of need for the league every single year since the warriors started being, you know, the world beaters that the are, and yet here, you know, here the hawks are they nabbed two of the best in the draft. I mean at first I was thinking, you know, this trade kind of doesn't really make sense to me. Because why did you need to trade up for? Hunter. But look, if they got both of their guys it's interesting because I feel like the hawks are a little flip on the asset model. They're like we're going to target guys specifically are asked to grab one specific player. Right it. 'cause you know you're second Griffin. I'm gonna bring a bunch of Asan kind of move it around the hawks like we have a perfect plan. We've guys for every single role they're all gonna fit in. These are five guys. Let's go. I like it's very bowl early how bold that are being moving on the draft. So much, I think for me. It's like I don't love the Andrea hunters a prospect, I had them write fifteenth of my board sort of because, like he's more of the just I just sort of complimentary player but call complementary players can being truly important in the right role and for me it's like with hunter like this is the right role for him. Right. Is the perfect role where he suddenly becomes a guy where he's going to be he's going to have to stand in the corner. Stand at the wing shoots. Threes, attack, closeouts make smart passes. The fend across positions play small four play small ball, five. For the hawks and smaller lineups. It's like this is the role for him with a bald on a point guard trae young and with a guy like cameras did oh to everything that was said about hunter cameras like all the flaws in his game..

"A generous giving soul I'm giving you not one but two phenomenal interviews in one action packed episode here. Yes. A double feature on the full forty eight. We have Lloyd Pierce the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks. I sit down with him followed by my lawyer waited re or the long awaited return of Adam silver, the NBA Commissioner to the full forty eight. He wasn't fact the first guest on this podcast when we kicked it off about a year and a half ago, really great to get Adam back on the podcast. We covered a lot of ground in this interview. Obviously at a ton going on in the NBA. And so we this could have gone any number of directions. But I wanted to talk without him. I up about tanking and lottery reform. This is the first year where they have changed. The odds for the lottery has it actually changed the way teams are operating or even the way fans are rooting. For their teams to fail. Adamant. A lot of interesting thoughts on that topic. We also discussed the possibility of marijuana being removed from the NBA's banned list. They still test randomly test players four times a year. That's more than any of the other major North American sports and given the way that society is moving does that really make sense anymore. Again, the Commissioner has some really interesting thoughts on that. And where they are heading with that. And I got an update important update on the age limit and the discussions about removing the age limit when that might happen. And we also touched on the recent comments by or comments attributed to Robert server, the Suns owner about the potential threat to leave Phoenix if they didn't get the public funding that they wanted to renovate their arena. So Adam silver, always very thoughtful interview. And always a really fun discussion. Great conversation. So we will have. That but first is Lloyd Pierce. Of course, it's his rookie season as a head coach in the NBA big challenge with the Atlanta Hawks a team that has obviously rebuilding obviously has gone young a lot invested in trae young. They're they're rookie point guard. And when you listen to Lloyd Pierce, you'll understand exactly why the hawks hired Lloyd incredibly thoughtful. And he has just very grounded has a philosophy knows exactly what he wants to do in terms of establishing a culture with this new team all the lessons that he's brought to bear after his time working in Philadelphia on Brett Brown staff and prior to that couple of other places, including Cleveland, and Memphis, just a wealth of knowledge. And as I say just a really thoughtful approach, I think the hawks are in great hands with Lloyd Pierce, obviously going to be a while before that team can get moving back in the right direction. Get the talent that they need. But they've got a great steady voice at the top of that with Lloyd Pierce. So. There you go to interviews both of them fantastic. Hope these get you through the week next week. We'll be a best of episode featuring interviews with Jeanie Buss Steve Kerr and Andy Bernstein look for that.
