"Okay met this guy a couple years ago out penn state. Were you there for? Let me just introduce improperly. It's Quincy. Avery works a lot of quarterbacks Shawn Watson's definitely. These guys get a bunch of guys out there. qb takeover was watching some of the videos. Were you at Penn State for Haskins. Or were you just yeah? That's not an Oscar for Haskins. training I is GONNA train them for the draft so wanna go to one of their games. That was the biggest game on the schedule. They and it was a weird game, because like Penn state looked like they had him, he joined, wasn't great in the first half, and then you kind of saw. Okay, this is this is what people were about when the younger kids wanted him to be the star, which is always kind of a weird thing with Ohio House, considering which at and all those guys pulled off, but that was a really interesting game because I. I think unless you're add it. You would forget. The state was in real trouble that I. Thought they were going literally like Oh. They're gonNA lose in fact, I left the game early so much. I gotTA get Outta. Here I'm not trying to talk anybody doing the arrest, us. Oh! But that was a pivotal moment in his career is that game doesn't go away they he ends up playing another year to state in. His college career goes a lot differently. I WANNA. Get to Haskins, but let's talk about you I. Because this has been a a developing industry with quarterback coaches, it's it's not new I mean it's been going on a long time, but it feels to be more at the forefront out almost feels mandatory. How did you get started? Because it's like anything that's complicated in competitive Your start is probably as challenging anybody. You had an interesting kind of go when I. I want to coach and I'm like I. Don't have a job so I'm like all right? Let me figure out a new coaching staff that knew coaching staff was Ucla give my car drive there and I just wait in the office room begged him for three days finally known you didn't know me. He didn't know me from the pain. I dislike WANNA job. And I kept Jose for three days finally, Yo. You can come back to my room. Let's talk. News I. Will, you can volunteer your, so I worked for free for Norm Chow Neuheisel's so I started my roots in the quarterback space, and then after two years. I'm like I. Don't WanNa do this anymore. Late it was out of my car facebook messaging. Every kid looks like a quarterback. in one of the first guys I got. Was Josh Dobbs? And then my business picked up from there. Now you are at Morehouse so right. But, you knew you weren't gonNA play like you weren't GonNa play after Morehouse like were you? Were you playing ton there? Yeah, I was a starter I was like all conference. But I knew that I was a five nine and a half, not so fast guy. You don't say a lot of people are real with themselves This isn't going to be the thing like my dad coached in the League, too, so I was I knew a lot more about football than a lot of guys were realistic. Y- because I when I was looking at your story, and it's almost like two versions of cold. Calling like you're trying to figure out the college step after you're done. You know you're not gonNA play. Your Dad's relationship at that point, though like wasn't gonNA. Help you at all and well look I mean I. Don't want to speak for yearning like that so I don't know what you're comfortable talking. I'm it's so cool. We can talk about the whole deal all right. We talk about the part because like when I I was like Oh wait. His Dad was a coach with the Tampa Bay Bucks Go. Oh, this is! Like. Why didn't his dagger job? So My dad was cultured with the bucks coach Tony Dungy he went missing from again. Just didn't show up to the game and everyone what's going on? My Dad was addicted to drugs he added like a drug binge the weekend before a game Atlanta. He missed the game in. He lost his career and he was like a fast rising coach like he probably would have been. A head coach by the time I got college I could have walked into a job. But he kind of blew that deal and I had to start from scratch, and that was a game where he brought you to the game to right to stay with them. Till I ended going to that game, but then I ended up going his wife, so he left hotel went to that deal I didn't see him again because the white and they missed the game. The the time that I got left in the hotel room, which is a really interesting story taking time telling me okay. So Me and my dad, he lost his job in Tampa. The following year I'm like I WANNA go learn how to play quarterback. My.

"What your best for how the quarterback thing plays out you know I. I think for all the reasons of what you just said. It speaks to the fact that it's you know it's going to be. Make or break between asking because otherwise if it wasn't going to be, make or break with asking then you would go get Cam Newton and particularly for what the numbers ended up. For What Cam Newton signed with. The patriots a very minimal deal. In fact, they minimum deal that that can can go up seven seventy, a half million through incentives, but you know if you could have done that deal with the Redskins, and maybe you couldn't have at the time that the Redskins were contemplating this and deciding what to do, because came to the realization that there wasn't something better out there, but just just say the redskins could have done that that deal with Cam Newton and the only reason not to do. It is because you don't. Don't want to have cam. Newton here to impede Dwayne Haskins and to even if doing the started with Cam Newton as the backup, you don't WanNa looking over his shoulder and that way so I. Think everything that we've seen speaks to the fact that this is going to be Dwayne Haskins team. It's going to be make or break. It's going be sink or swim. He's the guy and whether they become successful team in the short and medium-term depends on whether he develops into the quarterback he was drafted to be. You can follow me on twitter at mark. Okay, so Jason here's this is an honest question, okay? is is the president wrong I? Mean Look we all know his. How his tone is I? He's he just has no bedside manner, so even when he says something, you might agree with you like the way. He says he just such he just just. It just not. Not I guess what you're used to or what my level of expectations for the office would be. But is he? Is He wrong in that? Indians, Redskins were They weren't meant to mock in any way. Native American cultures like when you're talking about sport, it's somebody strong. Vural Amin even like the warrior image by the way warriors, the problem with that is like Marquette changed their name nickname in ninety four, because it was deemed as offensive to native Americans in the area which I don't I don't know how being a warrior is a bad thing, but I guess it is deemed to be a bad thing, so my question is like. I get. Message people like the Messenger, and maybe the tone of the message, but is he wrong that we have? Our political correctness has changed to where now Indians and redskins are deemed politically incorrect. I could I could see that point if I thought the president was doing this for because he disagreed with this on some kind of level that is about how he feels about these teams in sports, but But as you can see, everything he does is politically like. What's he done the past few days he is. He is decided I'm going to rally my base and there's many people that don't like you know the fact that we're changing everything. We're changing Washington's nickname. In the Indians, all this this is political decides to get involved in the bubble. Wallace situation on money, and you know no question. Fresh update on "haskins" discussed on Pro Football Talk with Mike Florio
"Because You got a new head coach, and suddenly I don't know whether he knew he was going to get this amount of power. But Ron Rivera is like the footballs are now and apparently the business making decision making darkest ciders out of the country. And this is all on his plate. And if it happens, it has to happen in short order. What's a reasonable name? You know, it's a great question, because you know when you listen to what Ragnar Varis said, And then what? You know what? You were just talking about that that that's the new name will be something that at least attempt Clothes on or the military and to honor native Americans. Well, that you know that becomes problematic because again that gets back to the fact that well, whose opinion or we're going to use on this, You know if some people are still offended by the new name That does that mean that it's it's not valid. So you look at the names that have been thrown out there and in the past and again being thrown out there now there was a time when when this was going to get Arena League team he was going to name it. The Washington Warriors that Something that's going to going to beat this being talked about now. Another one that's being talked about now is the Americans where you sort of honor Native Americans by saying that these were the original American. So you call the team the Americans, and I think part of that also will not just be the name but what you know what's the logo? What's the imagery going to be that goes along with the name so I think when you when you talk about it, and based on what Ron Rivera said This attempt to honor native Americans. Well, that was the attempt in the past. So certainly when you get what one of the term Redskin and replace it with another term, that is at least going to make it better. But is that going to make it all right and again, It's going to be a matter of opinion. It's going to be subjective rather than objective. So I think you know these are our significant issues that problematic issues. The complex issues and we don't know what the name is going to be. Yet we'll wait to see what the name is. And then we'll say, you know, is this still okay with people and I don't know that it will be in everyone's All right. Ah, ah! What about the quarterback position? You're still paying Alex Smith. He thinks he wants to play football. I don't know if that's possible. It's amazing that he's even walking and has a leg. I mean, like he's a remarkable dude. Dwayne Haskins. Obviously, you know, it feels like he's grown up in the off season, but that's all talk. Ah, and then I think what's amazing is Ron Rivera coached Cam Newton. Cam Newton could have been had for, you know for pennies, and obviously they had already, you know, made a trade for his backup in Colin Ragnar very even said I wouldn't bet against Ah, Cam Newton Except he actually did, but against Cam Newton. What? What's your, You know this organization as well about it than anybody. What's your best guess for how the quarterback thing plays out? You know, I think for all the reasons of what you just said, it speaks to the fact that it's you know, it's going to make her break with twin asking, because otherwise, if it wasn't going to be maker break with asking, then you would go get Cam Newton and particularly for what the numbers ended up being for what Cam Newton signed with, with the Patriots very minimal deal, in fact, a minimum deal. The second they can go up to seven million through incentives. But just say the Redskins could have done that. That deal with Cam Newton. What, and the only reason not to do it is because you don't want to have Cam Newton here to impede Dwayne Haskins and two even if going after starting with Cam Newton as the backup. You don't want him looking over his shoulder in that way, So I think everything that we Dean speaks to the fact that this is going to be Dwayne Haskins team is going to be making a break. It's going to sink or swim. He's the guy and whether they become a successful team in the short and medium term depends on whether he develops into the quarterback. He was drafted to be You can follow me on Twitter at Mark Maskey That is at Mark Maskey, NFL reporter for the Washington Post. Mark. Thanks so much for taking time out with us this morning. "And he didn't want the first that I you know, I just had to go listen to everybody else, and you know why players and their experiences on what it's like to be a black man in America is I didn't feel qualified to comment on And here's a guy who's by experience more discrimination that the average person over the course of his life. But it's just a little window into why the players really feel like you. He make that extra effort to understand them to get to know them and represent the things they're passionate about. Obviously with the new coach and and also comes a new start, some promising young players. And so while there's been decades of Malays, there is an opportunity for this team to maybe take a step forward this year on the field as well, No doubt and, you know, it'll be a baby. Step it first. You know that this isn't a play off team this year. They're they're just not good enough. They're not talented enough. You know, don't have enough good players. But there are a lot of young guys on this team. You said the future is very bright for if they're developed properly, you know they have the number two pick in the entire draft this year took Chase Young, a great pass rusher certainly comparable to Jake wanted some of those big NFL stars Khalil Mack. You hear so much about Dwayne Haskins? The quarterback has had a great offseason. People say he looks like he's in great shape. Ready to go. You know, expectations will be high. Eventually. I think everybody understands especially the Corona virus. They haven't worked out as a team yet so they may be thrown into this could be a rough year. But you know, certainly there. There's enough talent there that if they handle it correctly, that there's the potential that the future is bright. Okay, tell me about a couple of names that you have heard that our possibilities and a couple of that you might like as possibilities for the new for the new name of the current Redskins. Yeah, we'll start with the favorite. And then that warriors because Dan got a history with it, eh? You know, he's always discussed and is being his backup play. Hey, that is being able to keep Ah, lot of the teams imagery, You know, kind of the spear the feathers that it would be repurposed, of course, would not be. You know, I wouldn't have the Native American head logo, but warriors would kind of allow them to keep the Burgundy the goal. The branding that you know the fight song. All those things. He certainly consider that the favorite right now I'm not wild about it Kind of boring to me. I'd go exciting. You know a lot of fans like baby of the Red Tails, which is a salute to the Tuskegee Airmen who fought in World War two, You know, And so certainly Cem Cem. Military parallels there that you can go with the hogs has been suggested, of course, is a throwback to the great offensive lines that won all those Super Bowls for the Washington Redskins. Um, you know, Cem Cem, DC centric names? Of course. The monument. You know, whatever that is. You know what? Whatever your favorite DC centric one is. I like the idea of going creative going big with it. Using this opportunity to re brand, But I certainly also understand the desire to keep as many of the fight songs and traditions and colors and logos as possible because people have connected with this franchise in a very meaningful way for a long time. Yes, indeed. Great stuff, Michael. As always, good catching up. We'll talk to you soon. Absolutely. Yep. Michael Phillips from the Richmond Times Dispatch, I want I need.

"People have to turn in all their own jerseys, but will say you know what I mean we'll. We'll the hogs right into what they have the hogs. Well, they'd be upset if it's no wonder that well then. I don't know it's a wild time for Dan Steiner right now, so not only does. He have to figure out the covert test? He's going to do for his his team. Not only does he have to figure out his facility is going to be able to handle it all in all the procedures I assume that they have to do day-to-day now he has. Has To figure out a new team named new franchise. Everything like that and he could have done it. Years Ago could've done years ago. He's chose not to now start them in the pocket book, which is only thing ever changes. Anything is when he started diving into their banks. 'cause. It's just a WACO's. Dan Snyder maybe there's called the DC Dan Snyder. Who Cares only to win two games so mean. Z. Matter well, does it does it does Wayne? Haskins was giving people problems at the? Ron Rivera: Don't bet against Cam with Patriots
"Washington coach Ron Rivera was asked in an interview on six seventy, the score in Chicago about his thoughts on the Patriots Signing Cam Newton his quarterback and Carolina for nine seasons, Rivera said quote. He's headed in the right direction. I mean he's probably about as healthy as it gets from what I've seen on video. I think he's ready to bust out. said that he believes the coronavirus pandemic, which prevented teams from conducting in-person workouts was the main reason. More teams didn't try to sign him. He also pointed to his own quarterback second-year player Twain Haskins as the reason. Washington didn't try to sign Newton as a backup. Don't bet against them. Rivera said I really wouldn't.
Statue of former Washington Redskins owner removed at RFK
"Okay. Players in the NBA. Wow, that's that's that's him a revelation. My goodness be sure to catch live editions of the odd couple with Chris Broussard Rob Parker Weekdays at seven PM Eastern Four PM Pacific on Fox sports radio and the iheartradio APP. There's an interesting story that came out today. The statue in Washington the statue of the former redskins owner George Preston Marshall was removed from RFK stadium. So, he was against, he was the former owner, but he was against integrating the franchise in the early nineteen sixties. So props to them for removing it. But I. Here's what I'm going to say as we see all of these confederate statues. Flags being removed now you you see the statue of the redskins owner. There was another one I can't remember the college. I think it was a college perhaps where there was another statue removed. I say go. Let's go the whole way. And start changing the names of these teams that are these nicknames that are Indian nicknames and look I'm not an expert on native American culture. But I I would say leave it up to the native Americans. But! Redskins is a racial slur. That'd be like the. Hat calling the team. The say ambles or the end words. I mean that's what it is, and my thing is this. If we really are against racism. You can't just be against racism that affects black people. You have to be against racism that affects all of the people that have been hurt by it in this country and the native Americans clearly. Were hurt by it. And so the only difference Allison. Obviously, there were different forms of oppression. Slave reverses annihilation darn near annihilation. But. The only difference in why the names of these native these native American nicknames remain. Is because native Americans by and large don't have the power in American society that blacks do so. Blacks have the power to make noise. We have become part of popular culture through our athletes are entertainers politicians? We have actors in the whole nine yards we have. People who do we have enough power to make noise to complain to March to protest and we have enough numbers being twelve thirteen percent of the population. So, they wouldn't dare have a team nickname a black slur at this point. And now they're removing all these other elements of the culture that have been offensive to black people, but we gotta do the same thing for the native Americans they just don't have the population to make a lot of noise about it or the power, but if we're really against. Him How can we pull down these symbols of black Oh Prussian, but not pulled down these symbols of native American oppression. And I don't look I. Don't know about the seminoles. Is that you know again I would leave it up to the native Americans. But if the native Americans, I know, some of them are differ in their opinions, but get their leaders. To African Americans. Get our leaders to speak on stuff. Get their leaders if they're leaders feel like these things are offensive. The braves the Indians the Redskins, maybe even the chiefs. If they feel like they're offensive change the names period and I think it should be. There should become a part of the conversation. This is interesting. Chris I gotta be I gotTA. Plead ignorance here I never looked into what the name redskins beans. Did you ever think to look it up or anything? Well, just think about it, though Redskins, it's like saying black skins are yellow skins, or I mean we know the contentious relationship to the least between the whites and the and the native Americans. When I grew up. Honestly you know it was the stereotype of scalping. Indians and things like that. Those were stereotype. Even Cater Bait yesterday I learned. Something I'd never knew that's enough I. Had you not the black? The black players didn't know and that's my point. If we are eliminating stuff like that and I'm not saying we shouldn't, but that's minor stuff right there. There's a lot of mine. American there is a lot of minor stuff, and this is interesting because we're seeing. We're trying to seem like. We're getting rid of all these symbols. Guy That you said they were moved to statue. George Preston Marshall, so he and a group bought the Boston braves, and they ha. They had also the braves and the Redskins, so there was some kind of connection for them to native Americans now I don't know why. If you're naming a team, you would name it the braves and the reds. Would you name it after I mean most the bears, the tight you know, most of these names are are yeah. Boy. I guess cowboys is. Doesn't make sense to me my only pushback and again I'm not saying this shouldn't be done is. If, we're trying to tell these young athletes. Hey, Dwayne Haskins quarterback of the redskins. You shouldn't suit up this fall until they changed the name of the Redskins, and then we pit the young. african-american quarterback and his whole team will, it wouldn't be a

"haskins" Discussed on The Kevin Sheehan Show
"Okay Real quickly The indy combine you know is underway and it is a highly promoted event. That actually does pretty well in the ratings Joe burroughs hands were measured at nine inches Smallest HANDS Tied for the third smallest hands since two thousand eight at the indy combine. I don't know if you saw his tweet or not But it was. It was very very well done very well. Delivered it went like this from Joe Borough at Joe Underscore Burrow ten considering retirement. After I was informed the football will be slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts. That was well done from Joey. Borough on twitter This shouldn't be a concern to anybody. Patrick mahomes hands were nine and a quarter So not that much bigger than his hands. But anyway got me to thinking about the indy combine. And I did this on the radio show this morning. The indy combine is number one on my list of the most over rated sports events games events. You know whatever you WANNA say. Sports related on the annual sports calendar. There is nothing less interesting to me than the indy combine. The gets promoted so heavily and by the way watched like the. Indy combine numbers. This weekend Erin will equal if not exceed some of the Big College Basketball Games indefinitely. Nba Games without question without question. And I find it to be absolutely worthless to watch. I mean I'll have people on this week to talk about what's going on. And Ron Rivera is going to speak and Kyle. Smith's GonNA speak and obviously that's interesting to me but I don't watching the indy combine. Some People Watch it. Hours upon hours overrated. What else is overrated to you on the sporting calendar. I don't know I don't know Kevin I can't play this game. I don't know what else overrated most things did I did I did. I need to give you preparation time for you. Needed to give me a little bit on this. I think people watch the indy combined for the most part for all the shoulder programming that surrounds. There's much more programming a NFL programming. That's involved like you said there's more people who speak. There's more interviews. Yeah there's more access I I don't know how many up the percentage of people are actually watching guys in shorts. A lot of people do and I'm like I understand. It's a big TV. I'll bet any. Nfl Headquarters Right now. Because I saw Jim irsay mentioned this on on TV or in an interview somewhere that they'll already figured out you know we need to start shopping this around the country. Why SHOULD WE KEEP IT IN? Indianapolis we turn it into the NFL draft and have cities bid for. I mean I I I. I'm I'm sure it'd be interested. I'm sure there would be interest. Yes earth already came out and felt like the neath basically say there needs to be the tradition of the combine in Indianapolis. That's because somebody's talking somewhere about you. Know moving it around the country. Turn into a bidding process. And I'm sure I think it's I think that's a smart idea. I think cities would bid on a.

"Hello everybody and then he's home at his place playing video games all day in tweeting out stuff about Stefan digs like stop. You know it's hard to overcome that work at the Question it's always in somebody's mind that's what it is. Kevin I mean athletes go to Sporting events other forty events all the time and they don't get quests I mean I think if there were perception right from the start that Twain Haskins was a hard worker. I'll be Williams would care about seeing him at a wizards game. I agree but I think I think it reinforces An early perception of plane. You know the If Pass I duNno. I think what we've learned for those that didn't think it existed before is that there definitely was a question about his overall. Work Ethic Preparation prior priorities in terms of where football should lie in in his his day to day priorities. That at least at some point early in the season there was concern over that I would also just remind everybody you know. Baker Mayfield has a lot of that going on as well. You know there. There are other co- he's not the only other. It's not the only quarterback that is getting questioned about work ethic preparation. You know How important football is you know? It's CETERA. He's not the only guy and I again. I think this might and I'm hopeful that this is a bit dated anyway way too early. Maybe it might be and we need to remember something to this guy is Simba. We can't forget that Simba Simba. Yes so so I mean you know he has. He has important responsibilities that simple now. Let's not forget that he is the. He's an entrepreneur. He's got a lot of things going on..

"Are but I am focused on him that he acted shown you anything at the end of the year to indicate that he can't play quarterback in this week he's got some say the beginning of the year You know when he first got on the field and look you gotTA admit he had no weapon here. He had nothing. I mean it's a tight end league and he didn't have one tight end you know so he really didn't have much it terms. O- of working with weapons. They need to get some weapons to commit to them. They need to get him some offense of help. Yeah I mean yes. That's true and I mentioned yesterday. I think they need a veteran wide receiver. I think they need a tight end especially in north. Turner type of system So yeah I I agree with that In the last thing on this particular subject do you. Did you hear anything from Doug Williams? That says he is still concerned. He still isn't sure he's relying on Alex Smith to be in his ear Or do you think that first of all I wonder why Doug Williams continues to speak. Doug Doug's the senior vice president of player development. I mean he should be involved in developing players. I don't know why he's doing all of the the talking these days. But do you think ultimately your takeaway from listening to Doug is that he is not sure join? Haskins a little bit. I think so. I think it could be situations. Where SORTA like Archie Three? Although maybe not soon maybe to a lesser extent that he doesn't feel that's Wayne is listening to him that he doesn't feel that Swain listens to doug you know could be a generational thing I mean. I can't fathom why you wouldn't let some Doug but but Archie three didn't either so There could be some of that going on Why he mentioned Alex who is closer to Swain Haskins AIDS and relevant factor as opposed to a TUCK WILLIAM. So Doug makes us have some concerns that this kid doesn't amid his ear and this kid doesn't hear me but the greatest thing about what Doug Williams said is Gallivan. Am I right am I right? I mean this is a word that my mother tatum. Vague Greg Saddam gallivant around. Greg said the same thing to me. He said it's a boomer word. I guess that's alright. No it's not. It's a pre boomer work. Well no no. No no no. It's the greatest federation word. It's not a boomer word. We heard maybe when we were kids but we heard from out parents. I did my mother used to say it all the time. I never told anyone did not go gallivant around.

"Don't want to deny that. We are in that same situation that we were seven or eight years ago with a quarterback coach and an owner. We don't know the dynamic between those three and how will influence decision making in the building and that's problematic. That's that's that's the big question you know what what will dance. Nighters relationship with Wayne Askins. How affect the decision making involving Dwayne Haskins if they want with the assumption that they have autonomy and my saying that if they do have the ability to do what they think is right for the organization? Long-term they really have to have a formed opinion before they ever coach him in a game. Now you could say well. If he really isn't any good will. They are going to be in a position next year to draft Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields. Or somebody like that. But you know it's hard to be one of the two worst teams in the NFL. Yeah Yeah it is. It's it's thirteen games. You are right about that. But I think you're right but the uncertainty of of the owner and a quarterback. You know the two buddies Dan and Dwayne the Tuesay's that remains a big thing. I mean I had the ultimate canary in the coalmine. If things have changed is that the Redskins do move on from Twain Haskins. Then you do know that there is a new culture right or wrong at Redskins Park So I mean it'd be a lot writer than it would be a lot more right than wrong. I mean they might get it wrong but the fact that they were able to make that decision would be. Yes Ed again. I think he's shown enough that he's worth the investment moving forward. I mean I'm not as bullish as you.

"Of your twitter account. You can decide how much you read how much she don't read. Who follows you? Who doesn't follow you who you interact with who you. It's not like you're a prisoner. I don't block anybody's side. Every how many people you blocked over the years. Oh remote houses no. I don't do anybody. 'cause muting is gutless blocking it takes guts because when you block somebody they know you block them when you need somebody. They're out there thinking well. You know this guy's res all my stuff but he's not read anything it takes guts. Well it's also overly sensitive in my view unless somebody's threatening you from the guy who doesn't Wanna read twitter Eddie war because it bothers him too much no. It's not that it bothers me. It's just a total wasted time. Suck I I mean I know how valuable your time is very valuable. Just ask me when I but you know they're just I would say that a significant. I think I agree with you. That it's a very small percentage of people that are just trying to get a rise out of you but there's also a group of people that just it's a waste of time to get into it especially in a two hundred eighty characters or less situation. I mean because they're they're going to require much more you know Karen it's a handling situation you've got to have a lot of care involved to sort. It just takes too much time and how many cars. No I mean I look. I look at it like Jack. Nicholson is a movie hoffa their aunts at a picnic and on the picnic. Yeah I don't really see myself as a picnic but you've always sort of seeing yourself in a much bigger way So there's actually a lot to talk about today. Even though there's not one significant thing Doug Williams said some things yesterday on Sirius. Xm radio will will get to those things. Unless Carpenter reporting in the post that Ron Rivera and Trent Williams have had meetings plural face to face meetings plural and that it really is about the money. that everything else has been worked out. I mean obviously everything else has been worked out because Bruce Allen and Larry Hesser no longer in the organization but you know What's interesting to me and I think we've talked about this together. I've done it on the radio show. I'm not so sure that everything's been worked out there. And I'm specifically referring to the owners relationship with Trent Williams which I do think at one point was probably very close. And when Trent Williams came back you know at the end of October right before the deadline for him to return he ripped into Bruce Allen and at the same time praised. Dan Snyder you talked about how you know. He really loves Dan and is always felt the support. We didn't hear anything from Dan. And we still haven't specifically to specific Trent Williams but we don't hear from Dan period. I mean he didn't slip in between happy. Thanksgiving and Google Ron Rivera's record. Hey I really hope we can get Trent back as I love him. A Lot We haven't heard anything. But I have this Tommy. I have this suspicion that not only did Trent Williams really pissed off Bruce Allin. I think he really pissed off. Dan Snyder and I think it's because ultimately this was about money to a certain degree what percentage of it was money versus medical. We don't know but we know some of it was about money goose. Trent admitted but I think that there was this feeling of sort of betrayal that the redskins had been super supportive during multiple suspensions with Trent Williams that they had been loyal to him. They'd given him a contract extension. You know after multiple suspensions he missed a key. A key portion down the stretch of what could have been a playoff season in two thousand sixteen four suspension. You know that was. That's a big. It's a big letdown to your team to to to get to get busted for marijuana again into be suspended and I think that there was this sense in Ashburn and trust me. I'm not defending any of their behavior. And in fact the stupidity of not doing something about it where you could have moved on not had this become a huge drama- gotten a first round pick. Plus I mean I I. I'm not gonNA forgive them for not doing that as a fan of the team. But I've always felt there were too big sides to the story. And even though Ron Rivera and there's a whole new group there and Larry Hessen Bruce Allin are gone And less carpenters reporting. Now it's about the financial. I still wonder about the relationship with the owner. And maybe they'll sign him to a deal and they'll make up in the owner say great things about Trent Williams. But I'm just telling you I have a pretty good feeling that bruce L. wooden the only one really upset by what was coming out of Trent Williams's camp during that holdout well like you said the redskins did so many things wrong acknowledging that they may be upset by the way tried to Williams handled. This doesn't mean they're right but it does acknowledge their feeling and I. I would understand if Dan Snyder was upset by the way traffic volumes. Not only like say betrayed.

"It's kind of remarkable marketable Considering you know that he couldn't he couldn't beat out. The story line is that he couldn't outweighing askins at Ohio state and the areas from five or six game in national championship game. He's become a college football wedges now and If you're if you're the redskins and if so borough is still there at number two which is highly unlikely Your draft Jonesboro right Yes I would okay I would But the other. You've got the other quarterback who was supposedly better better. I do I say. Don't you WanNa talk about the tweet. From late. Last night. He tweeted no. I didn't know boy I got got this and you didn't usually. You're all over this. He tweeted out at ten fifty nine. PM last night. Silence the noise and everybody you know. I think they're interpreting it and I would interpret it this way as well. I mean we've been wrong. In our interpretation of young athletes social social media tweets and instagram posts in the past. But I think it was a reaction to some of the conversation about Joe Borough and what if he's there at number two we. Would you take Bacon. I would I would definitely take Joe Borough at number two and this conversation we would have had yesterday. Had we done this show. But it's not disrespectful conversation to Duane Haskins. People those of you that are going to say that you need to stop because it's totally natural conversation among sports fans. You're you're a fan of the team like I am. That has the number two pick in the draft. Joe Borough more likely than not won't be there at number two right then. Someone did dig up a tweeted. The two that disrespected Skyline Chili. So maybe Cincinnati won't take him after really Joe Borough yes was critical of skyline. Chili us. So you know it is the bengals. You never know what they'll do in chase. Young may still be the number one player on the board graded out by all all of the scouts. But it is a quarterback. We're talking about Joe Borough but of course this is a natural conversation. I mean I liked Wayne Haskins James. I'm optimistic about Dwayne Haskins. I was impressed with the progress he made as you know. But are you kidding me. Joe Boroughs Aaron Rodgers. Threw it it looks like to me. We may all be wrong. You know. It's the quarterback position. People are wrong on this position all the time in the draft. But if I think that he's Aaron Rodgers offers and I think dwayne Haskins isn't Ben Rothlisberger but he's more of sort of a mid range starter will of course I'm GonNa Take Joe Borough like why would I would consider trading up to Joe Borough if if I believe he's Aaron Rodgers. I'm going to try to trade up. One spot fought to take joe borough come on what the bight away once an amazing watching Aaron Rodgers on Sunday Isis. In fifty eight unbelievable we'll all quarterbacking on Sunday was spectacular. I mean from from Harran Rogers throws throws the ball like throwing a piece of paper into a wastepaper basket. I mean Mahomes Bahamas pretty special to yeah.
Redskins introduce Ron Rivera as head coach
"The redskins officially named Ron Rivera their new head coach yesterday. Washington Fire Jay Gruden on route. Two a three and thirteen season the Redskins have not won a playoff game since two thousand five. That was when Joe Gibbs was their head coach Washington looking for some of the stability ability that Rivera brought to Carolina. The Panthers never won a title. They did reach the playoffs. Four Times under coach Rivera including a super bowl trip in two thousand fifteen. The redskins last made the Super Bowl in nineteen ninety-one and in a matter of moments the redskins will introduce Ron Rivera as the new head coach. You can see see. They are getting ready now in the nation's capital and as we wait for coach Rivera. I'll ask you this. What do you want to hear this afternoon? I think from Ron Rivera. I I just want to hear why he was attracted active to this job. Several Head coaching vacancies out there. And and why he took this job and and presumably so quickly when there could be potential other openings out there even in Dallas as we wait for that one and then secondly I wanna hear his evaluation or just thoughts overall Dwayne Haskins in what he might be thinking with regards to the offensive coordinator position. Since we're thinking that he's going to interview the current Guy There Kevin O'CONNELL and and You know what he might be looking being out of the coach from nap position. If he doesn't go with the guy who's currently their jobs I think the the the maturation process of dwayne Hassans is important for this football team. And I think that's the number one issue for Ron Rivera. Moving forward is how do I get my quarterback if he feels doing Haskins is indeed his quarterback How do I get my Guy Ready? Ready available with the right mindset because we do understand doing hasn't silly young player. So how do I get them in the right mindset to be successful in this football league and I'm a little sour about this. I'm a huge huge Ron. Rivera Fan. I sat with them while I was out. During my tenure with the giants was over and I was going to different Teams and sitting down with their coaches. He was the one that struck me. The most is just is a straight shooter. Honest about what. He does with his with his teammates. Everybody loves them. Teammates loving other coaches love. Him and I think he's walking to the podium right now. We'll take Noon I happy Thanksgiving everybody. Today's the beginning of a great new year for the Redskins Organization and its fans I I'd like to thank Bill Callahan. Those here five years did a great job for us a great guy and we really appreciate him with the Redskins have needed is a cultural change. Someone that can bring a winning cultural to organization at starts and ends with our head coach when looking for that man. I looked for a class. Act That's how you describe coach Rivera. He was two time coach of the year. And for those of you. That don't understand. That's very very hard to do. You should google that Because it's impressive oppressive He was fifteen to one which is extremely hard to do Did my research spend a lot of time talking a lot. Allow People A lot of coaches and one thing that came across certain words and these words. We're integrity honesty. Knowledge Grit determination. It's all about winning. Ron Rivera knows how to win as a player player as a coach as a new head coach of the Redskins. One thing. That's very very important. We're GONNA have one voice and only one voice alone and that's the coaches like to welcome. Ron's wife Stephanie. We've gotten over the last few weeks and our new head coach of the Washington redskins coach Ron Rivera. Thank you you know with about thirty days ago that your team. This team got me unemployed. So just so you know. We're good now thank thank you. It's an honor serve as a coach in the NFL. It really truly is their only thirty. Two of us at anyone given time and these jobs are scarce this one the Washington the redskins. This one is special. This is one of the almost original teams started in nineteen thirty two. There's a Lotta history behind football team in order for us to get back to where we WANNA be. We've got a study that history embrace it history and prepared a repeat that history because if not we're doomed to repeat the most recent history. We're not gonNA do that guys. We really aren't everything we do is going to be about winning. Okay we'll do things the right way and that's the only way we're going to do them because if it doesn't help us we're not doing it man that's just as simple as it gets. So why did I choose the REDSKINS. Probably the question. I know a lot of you guys are wondering that right now with everything. That's out there. I can tell you right now. All this talk about the money I want the money I'd still be out there trying to pick a couple teams against each other. I took this job for one. Simple reason one simple reason because because Dan Snyder came to me with a very interesting perspective for weeks he's explored the reasons why some teams win and some teams. Don't he told me. The common. In fact that transitional success of teams like the Patriots the Seahawks and the chiefs. Some of the other ones was that decision to take it and make a coach centered approach each not an owner centered approach or a team president or GM. Coach centered approach. I told Mr Snider that I appreciate the fact that he believes the head coach matters but I would be honored but under one condition it had to be a player centered culture a player center culture. Something I truly do believe in my responsibility to get the most out of the players to work with them teach them mentor them. Five five to one by one. I most certainly. We'll do it. I've done in the past and I'll do it again. I'll do what I can't help. These young men become not just the players we want but the men in the community we need. These are the guys that can help change things not just on the football field but in this world I really do believe that I was fortunate enough to have that in Carolina and I hope I'm a work to have it here. In Washington. Things will begin with one. Simple principle off discipline. I come from a military family. We're disciplined it isn't taught it's live. It's expected from day they won. I have a philosophy every player every coach everyone who works for this organization. They'll know what day one you're not gonNA play for this team. You're not gonNA work visist team if you don't have the discipline to give us everything. You have no exceptions no excuses. That simple guys. We have to hold each other accountable. That's something that we most certainly will do. We'll expect most from each other whether I was in Chicago Carolina with our very best when the players knew. Do the coaches had their backs. And this is the thing I'm going to ask from the players. Do it the way we teach you do it the way we ask you do it that way. The success will be yours. Okay you do it that way accessible be yours if you don't excess is going to be yours but it's not gonNA be right. Why because if you fail it's on you do it our way do it the right way and if we fail it's on me okay? It'll be on me. The head coach at simple. I truly believe that I ask of. You doesn't work I'm to blame. I told Mr Snider. I wanted to assemble coaching staff. That was truly dedicated. The players and teachers and teachers. Okay I don't have to have a great big names would have to have is great teachers. We want to teach these guys how to play football to the best of their abilities to the best of our abilities and also it'd be good quality young men off the field. I want players tough. Hungry will do whatever it takes to play redskin football fall in January and hopefully into February. I told him I wanted to work. Hand in hand with the head of player personnel could spot potential and others that even. I didn't see another didn't see. That's going to be important because it has to be a collaboration no matter who it is no matter. WHO's working with us? It has

"On the wrong side of the turnover margin category were yet. They pulled me one to football games. let's get to the smell test can look with John Q.. Public is putting their cash and and does the opposite it stinks. I know it's been terrible. I was doing the smell test. Stay on live radio on a football ball Friday with all the Games on Friday and I started getting all the text messages that I typically get on Saturday and Sunday morning from people I know and I had to actually cancel a couple. Well my place. A live on air gave out Texas and I said no I just got some information and we cancelled Texas Ball. State Slang. Three Game Starts Arts at noon today. So if you hear this may be too late other foreign seven. I'm playing a seven and four team at Miami of Ohio. It doesn't make any sense why they would be a three point. Favorite take ball state laying the three points. North Western's only getting eight and a half against Lovey Smith and and Illinois Tomorrow Illinois headed to a bowl game real surprising season for Illinois and Lovey Smith. Good for him He is well liked in the coaching profession. In Illinois at various times you know over over my lifetime has had really good football teams. More often than not know. But they've got a fan. Base there in Champaign Urbana and they put this thing together and they start winning. They got a shot. They're six and five already qualified for bowl. Northwestern is getting only eight and a half the public loves Illinois. I'll take northwestern plus the eight and a half Kansas is getting fourteen at home against Baylor public's all over Baylor Gimme Kansas plus the fourteen and in the Iron Bowl. I like like Auburn. Getting three and a half. The public doesn't think it's enough. They still think Bama even without two is better than Auburn and length. Three and a half seems too short. I'll take Auburn. Plus plus the three and a half on Sunday. I like Jacksonville. Plus one and a half against TAMPA TAMPA COMING UP. The public loves them. I like Cincinnati. These are bad teams. I'm giving you plus three against the jets. The jets have won three in a row. Widen that line higher. I like the giants plus six and a half by lied to seven at home against the packers and I liked the Texans on Sunday night plus three and a half against the Patriots. Not a lot of discussion around the smell test today. Okay not a lot of discussion Russian Because you don't WanNa hear it you just want the picks and then you'll decide to do with them what you decide to do all right All right By by the way We've got an APP now. "If they have to protect Dwayne Haskins in this game in multiple ways playcalling align haskins being smart the panthers are second in the league in sacks behind just the forty niners. They've got forty one sacks on the year and they caused turnovers they are top five takeaways on the year. I believe this is the best defensive team that join Haskins has started. It started it against. I know that Greg Williams provided a ton of challenges. This is the best defense it's inconsistent defense. But it's the most talented. And that's the one that really gets after the quarterback. If DWAYNE Haskins is put what into obvious passing situations in this game it could get ugly and you know most of you have heard me and have since that. I am more optimistic about Haskins I used to be I am. I'm intrigued by some of the things. He does very well. Better than I even thought Sunday could be a step back moment. Meant for him after those two drives that finish off the Detroit game some of you will say the Detroit game was a step back game in general because of his numbers. I didn't see it that way. Quite the the way Many of you saw it. This could be one of those ugly games if they don't really figure out a way to protect I like some the things that Kevin O'CONNELL did and I thought he had a better feel for the game against the Lions or a couple of runs in that game. I down four five six yard runs and then he went play action. And that's that's how you do it. You know you rip off a five yard first down. Run the defense thinks you're coming back especially Bill Callahan's team is coming back with another run and you go play action in there. That's how you protect Wayne Haskins with playcalling. You run play action. You let them throw it when the other team is least expecting him to throw it. He's got to do a really good job of extending and getting the ball out quickly in. The offensive line has to protective not. There could be four five six sacks in this game and maybe one or two that ends up with a bad throw that gets picked and if that happens it's going to be ugly really really ugly. The redskins beat the panthers. If they're kicker showy sly who's Miss- seven field goals and four. PAT's and Aaron has not been cut yet. They brought in another kicker after miss two extra points last week and a twenty five yard field goal in a game against the saints on the road. They had a legitimate chance to win that game. They didn't cut shut him. They brought in a kicker and put them on the practice squad. As of now. But Joey sly is still on the roster and he has that's to be thinking about every one of these these kicks he's gotTa be rattled. But for whatever reason Ron Rivera at this point is sticking with him if he kicks and misses a couple on drives that stall redskins. I'll have a chance. Lastly the Redskins ultimately absolutely have to win the turnover battle to beat a good football team by two or more. This is a given now for the redskins against a good football team. They haven't beaten a good football team in forever okay. It's been a low Dallas last year. It's probably the last decent football team. They beat that was before Dallas got on a run last last year okay. The redskins have beaten the dolphins and the lions he saw the lions were Mitch. Trubisky lit up the Lions yesterday. You gotta be plus tour. We're better on Sunday to beat the panthers or you have no chance and they do turn it over. They got twenty giveaways as long as much as they have twenty takeaways. Their turnover margin is the exact same as the redskins zero. I mentioned this. I think on Monday to be a two and nine. Football team with a zero turnover. Margin is very surprising usually usually see a two and nine football team minus seven minus minus eleven. It tells you just how bad the redskins are that they have not been on the wrong side of the turnover margin category were yet. They pulled me one to football games. let's get to the smell test.
Dwayne Haskins Missed Final Snap While Taking Selfies with Fans
"This was a weird ending to a Redskins game one of the players missed the final play because he was busy taking a selfie with fans Twain Haskins helped the skins snapped a four game skid and win their first home game in thirteen months without Haskins the backup QB took a knee to run out the clock on top of that the the York Post reports Joe Thijs been tweeted how do you miss the last the game because you're taken self fees that's unprofessional
Dwayne Haskins named the Redskins’ starting quarterback for rest of season
"Appropriate that we begin with news out of the nation's capital redskins coach Bill. Callahan said within the last half hour that Dwayne Haskins the redskins starting quarterback the rest of the way Haskins started the last game for Washington against the Buffalo Bills. Coming off a bye the redskins will face the jets. That's this week Tim Thought the decision to name. Dwayne Haskins distorted the rest of the season. Do it now and stop answering the question. I guess and that's the key I think you just go make a decision and go with it. Don't look back. He's the quarterback of the future. They want him to be the quarterback of the future and so rather than answering questions each and every week. There are being somewhat of a distraction. The rest of your football team but I think also a message to Dwayne of okay. Here's the deal. You need to get ready. You need the be ready and prepared to go out and play and play at a high level each and every week in these what the expectations are for you as a starting quarterback in the National Football Tali at so. I think they need to do it. They'll still be somewhat difficult to evaluate him because of some of the situations you know there and we've seen some guys get better watching somebody else. The truth matter is find out if you can play or not by actually client yeah. This is a situation or decision that I felt should have been made once. You named him the starter for the Buffalo Bills Game. This shouldn't have been a thing where we're going to put him in pulling Glenn Beck. I'll see if we can start Cole McCoy or go with case keenum once you decided to go with the Wayne ask is. He's you're first round draft pick. You WanNa see if he's your quarterback of the future because as you will be moving on to a new coach and he may have to get his own guy and he's still a rookie so you the only way you're gonNA learn is on. The job is by going out there and doing it and I think they knew that is interesting that they waited until go bye week to do this. And and case keenum won't be the number two quarterback and Cole McCoy will be the third quarterback but he's shown Some glimpses in that last start. You see the arm talent. That's the one thing that that was. I don't think that's ever been concern listening to people. Call a game. When people people have obviously met with the team and have talked to the coaches and production meetings about this and they wanna make sure he he can call the play properly in the huddle call like say what what you want? There was a reason he wasn't playing and it was not because the physical ability. There was a lot of talk about him. Not Being Mentally Ready to play the game and and you have to at least give yourself a chance to succeed before the bolts. And if you're not doing that that's why you're not on the field the criticisms if you can call Oh them that wasn't about whether he was smart enough but they were interpreted that and I think Adrian Peterson and trying to explain and maybe defend himself last week or the week before. was He telling Dwayne it's time for you to get into the playbook in other words it was really learning how to be a pro. And that's what they wanted to do is learn how to be a pro in terms of how you prepare apparent when he's sitting there at number three and no one that play. I don't think he prepared like a guy who might start that week.
Dick Powell Discuss Melbourne Cup
"And you know Haskins brought up Melbourne Cup and boy you I wanNA talk about a firestorm. We thought the Derby had an aftermath. The this Melbourne Cups had an aftermath. Well uh-huh they disqualified point Aboard Master reality. He had the lead As he's I've been doing all year he's been riding aggressively and trying to use all the skills to get home. He looked like he was going to do it. And then balanced declare was on the inside Pencil Barron on the outside of fighting duck then tightened up paradiso. who was making this phenomenal for Wayne Lorden and that one little bit of a chain reaction with the winner Alan declare but it was hard to tell on the head on? When did it happen the stretch like they were right on the wires? So did it happen to strike. Before strike after SORTA stewards took quite a while to go over it and it turned out to be way. The inquiry work turned out to be Aidan. O'Brien's rider claiming against Joseph Brian's right doc. So they took Joseph them and they move up to third they put they put Joseph back the fourth. And then me off mine. WHO's Donald? But he wound up winning Craig Williams aboard the Toy. Your own son of declaration of war vow the choir He was highly touted into and all the commentary commentary before the rate big slice. I wound up betting prince of Aaron. He went off at sixteen to one. was in a winning position every step at one point. It looks like he's GonNa win and in fact at the Y.. Michael Walker stands hands up. biking won the raised. Any like what's to his last. Maybe not I've been. I've been a crutch back now. So he winds up winning running third moved moved up to second page eighteen dollars. The place one of his twenty. Something exactly came back for thirty with to watch go horses but as as Paul said earlier today you can make a chance for fourteen of them and then in the stretch of if you watch the race again and again but Chattanooga's Colt made the glass judge flying. That's making tons of ground surprise. That'd be Jut. Mine was at that Cross County residents winter hex software. Don't that but still he was coming on. William Bill just tremendous the Spanish on the wire and They took my keys on the the mind. veg suspensions actually out it's always it's always entertaining and one of those special days and I was in such a blur. You know coming out of the weekend and then traveling link so i. I was behind Catching up to it and all the and all the hubbub and speaking of Catching up and everything deck. Let's get your right before we talk Hong Kong and there is plenty there. There's actually a lot of news That I've seen from around the world Horses is that are starting to announce their intention to run on champions On the Champions Card but before we do that you're breeders cup takes so they would kind of disappointing my handicap and was just not what it should be. I was on with you when we're cavalry was on and I talked about tracking your father. Santa Neither Steve with that so that was no surprise the way the track played away from me. I just didn't have the right voices. I seven degrees with about if you tell me do tries. It's IT'S GONNA run back good in the first half. I gotTA figure Dunbar Road. It's GonNa be light in and she wasn't so that that cost and then I you know I I I knew track was going to be the way it was. I was right about that. And I know code honor the relatively small horse that Kinda gets over the popped track down too far and sure comes up the way. They're even like that goes on her and don't see was he. He didn't look before the race. Though I can't I can't blame it all on the track because in the post sprayed he was very antsy he was very not wash now going into the game but he was started warm. And that's to me. That's unlike him so even with the track he didn't look at going in and then obviously than handle the track so so it wasn't it wasn't a they want a lot of high five point Friday and Saturday and other than that originally this great I kind of had the opinion and Europeans Warren to strongest companion. Especially when magical make the trip turned out to be probably true but the one the one I really screwed up on sale sponsored that's That's that's when you go back and look how about applesauce episodes come up and I've been so so so I was just two more days of back getting it done okay. Well and that just shows you that you don't as I say repeatedly and I write that the introduction to keep people I don't want people to get completely flummoxed by by Breeders Cup and that they they you know they didn't do well and I. Can't you know you do well this weekend. delmar opens tomorrow and the Churchill. Fields Terrific You don't it's two days. It seems like they're the most important on the calendar when it comes to wagering opportunities but the money you make in the Melbourne Cup is just as just as valuable as the money you. You didn't make on Breeders Cup weekend and it's why it was one of those things where I kind of recognized that nothing seems to be working so I a lot of money Friday and Saturday. The thing is like when you're playing blackjack and you get really good cards. And then he keeps feeding him. So you're betting more than shirt because you're getting really good parts. Oh you get bad cards you just get that. Take your losses so I kinda problem everything down on Saturday. So wasn't you know I didn't that anywhere near the funding that I take him out. Taken out of my bank account too but the rights coming up and I look forward to the multiple foul and I got lucky because I could have just as easily been shoving second exactly. And that's what the that's what makes that's what makes it so much fun so maddening reddening or or so exciting. It's just it's gotta run for you That that's always the bottom line and on a day day on days like we had Friday and Saturday there were as as Paul. Matisse laid out brilliantly today there are things that are going to conspire against you. And you can't can't. You can't completely alter your game plan or abandoned your your approach. You can adjust maybe a B and tinker and throw in some savers and whatnot. But if it's not going to be your you know your day or your two days. Ah Ah but it doesn't reflect doesn't reflect on what lies ahead and and there's still a lot of good racing November's of terrific racing month that we got all the the action of Churchill leading up to the Clark And the stars of tomorrow to Ecuador off off to a tremendous start. I mean if they can if they can maintain this before people break camp and start the head to Florida and whatnot. It's going to be a very good Ecuador meet because the fields are competitive racing is interesting so that's often and del Mar With the first two cards sat and that looks like give. There's always a lot of good turf racing at del Mar so often. Go off we go. How about to spend the last couple of minutes? The Hong Kong updates about four minutes shopping rich sharpton ran on Sunday We now have a true Sunday. We have a high fifty races favorites at one. Twenty six percent the average field sizes twelve and one and the average win price is twenty dollars and fifty cents so prices again value. You and Twenty Six hundred seventy is pretty thoughtful considering twelve twelve though horses surveys Shopping on fat set Sunday very fast track is good too terminate running raid this time so when you look back at those races understand that they worked on pretty quick. Nothing really stood out on on. That took yesterday at Happy Valley They Rennes nine. Nine on the paraffin and interesting things Steve Race sex with the fifty six to one shot that one and you WanNa talk about how different things are from talk to them and I keep saying we want to be like the rest of the world that we used to be so the horse that won training by Begnaud young he was called into the stewards to try to explain this big former. There's a whole explanation the nation and and the chart comments and China's that easy stated that this was the second. Start off the way off. As I started at some mucous in his trachea they they trained him and congre which is inland about three hours minded China Trade Centre pollution and everything else and Hong Kong. Long time that's awesome but here stewards are paying attention not just You know I've done horses that I have run poorly a horse. Who when often you John? Why did he run so well? And that's that's you know that's called transparency and integrity.
Steve Haskin Discuss What Is True Horseracing
"Listen I don't WanNa put a damper on things or anything but you know to me. This was not was not true. Horse racing at least as I know it And I I will say that the grass races were were all good. I have no problem with that but after after that a lot of things that just get ugly for me you know. I don't WanNa see horses and jockeys coming back on on a track labelled fast looking like they just been rolling in the sandbox I realized being zealous in their attempt to make detract safe which is understandable expandable. But in my opinion they did. They did at the expense of the racing I mean who's who says you have to make a track excessively really deep and tiring to make it safe. I mean they're they're faster race tracks. I go back look at the aqueduct over the years and they're all in in highly even even the old old Santa Anita track was always safe. Saratoga I mean these are basically safe racetracks. You know so. So what's going on now. I can understand but sometimes you can overdo something and you know. And as much as as I liked Vino Rosso in the classic and you know one all kinds of bets on them To tell you the truth I can never ever watch that race again for abuse reasons to search too much 'cause actually liked Mongolian groom ally and and actually thought at one point in the race that he looked like he was gonna Finish in the money but you know all the repercussions of that. which most I think most of it is just nonsensical? In fact I just read somewhere that you know the vet came that came out. The trainer came out and said it was perfectly sound. You know and understand these things happen. There's no there's absolutely no blame here at all. Just the fact that it happened. That hurts just like it's hurt from all the other incidents in fatal fatal incidents in the past. And you know I go back I was there for roughing it. I was there for go for one. That was there for prairie by you. I mean there for a lot of witnesses and every time you go through a little bit out of you and you know I I I just sort of get attached the Mongolian. Groom not only from a betting standpoint but I just like the connections and and the and the the horrible irony of it is the fact that you know right after the race. He stated emphatically that. They're not going that they don't want to put up two hundred thousand dollars and and then you figured some offers would come in to to get a piece of it and put up. Put up the the supplementary fee and they said you know now talking to date decided to change their mind put up the money and and and then this happened so I know how absolutely devastated everybody. Everybody was there So but you know that's not even what I'm talking about when I'm talking about About the debris come you know I. I just don't want to see the best distance. Sources in the country stagger home the last half a mile and fifty two seconds. That's not resource time time I you can make the track slower and slower and slower but it was weird because the the formula was the same old data. We're going faster early legitimate. The sprint races were run fast but I mean come home the last year from fifty two. I mean that's ridiculous and you know it wasn't that the horses were bad. It was at the race crack. You know that. They poured truckloads of sand on the day before the Breeders Cup. You know and speaking of the classic Nick and that Racetrack. I certainly don't want to see the V to bed. Closes in the country. Never even pick up their feet and get beat fifteen lengths and seventeen links like they're running through quicksand. And I had agreed with Doug mcgann. He's original plan to skip the Breeders Cup and was totally against it when they change their mind. I knew the odds were stacked against them. Being three year olds shipping West I quoted that statistic that they were over twenty two in the past. I and especially with the track favoring speed at that time and I had no idea that it would get even worse for him when he got there and I don't think I don't think shook did either either. I think he was Kinda surprised how how track was playing how deep it was and how come from behind horses were were just spinning their wheels. We also hallway so you don't WanNa see that you know you just don't want to see any kind of track bias when you've got the championships at stake. I mean it was a lot at stake. Code of honor but you know so. Now he's got to End His Campaign very ingloriously. But that's just the beginning You know you look at Look at the beach I mean I I I don't WanNa see arguably the most exciting and talked about horse in the the entire Breeders Cup. Who's been on just off the pace going six furlongs to a mile in an ace in every one of his starts eight and a half lengths back at the half mile? Call all of the dirt mile and still five lengths back at the poll. You know. He's he's still runs one of the best races of his life despite the track and he can't even get close to you know I'm not taking anything away from spun to run but he can't even get close to that horse. You know who was beaten nine links in the Haskell who I I was at parks when he beat gray magician by heading the smarty Jones he ran well in the Pennsylvania Derby but he's still fit and then suddenly turned into a superstar overnight. Overnight gets a one ten buyer and some small stakes at parks despite never having run a triple digit Byron his life so I mean Karama beach I mean even to get close to that horse and to come from that far out of it and where the heck was cold front you know in twelve career starts. He's I've been on the lead or within a link to the lead in every in every start in the met mile. He's on the leading forty four and one for the half but in this race he's running V v six and a half lengths off the lead. I mean I don't get that. Where was he so you want to run? As soon as he went out there you know and opened up to three lengths. She said nobody's nobody's going to catch the source on this racetrack. And like I said I thought I thought the Omaha Beach Randy terrific race to get second and even staying with the dirt mile. Yeah I don't WanNa see the second and third choices you look improbable and Mr Money. who were both being very highly touted touted By their trainers and many of the experts. And who would training brilliant leaguge swimming out there never picking their feet up then got beat nine of ten ten and three quarter lengths. You know now you get to midnight. Be Sue I don't WanNa see the best filling in the country unable to make up an inch aground. In the last days the mile with a final creates run in under forty seconds. You know what in the world we should be doing running ace at the top of the stretch You you know I mean it was a was it. A bad ride was just bad. Racing Locke was was big track. I mean take your pick but affiliates not supposed to be that far back and and if you watch the race you could see blue price who you know. Give her credit you know. She wants to come from off the pace but he had a made her she had to make a move move back stretch and it had lead ready at the eighth pole you know and then you know finally you look at Friday. I don't WanNA see your race with into the strongest W prospect. Seen in years. Completely fall apart. You have a forty five to one shot at twenty eight to one shot and thirty nine to one shot come from first third and fourth to finish one two three and the three to two shot running second stops to a walk getting beat over twelve lengths. You you know and then you know meanwhile before five shot and erase stumbles at the start and finish dead last so to me. That race was a total bust. In fact to tell you the truth by the way if somebody had told me a week before the Breeders Cup that we were GonNa see the Derby favourite less weekend and it would not be a it would not be any of the three favorites more. Would it be scabbard. Nor anybody else in the juvenile but it would be the winner of the national stakes the next day by far and away the most impressive two year old. Maybe most impressive overseeing the team your weekend and then you go to the other dirt race. On on Friday juvenile fillies you know we have to brilliant phillies coming off. A dominating wins literally staggering home rubber-legged in in an agonizing slow twenty seven three and seven and two for the last sixteenth of a mile. I didn't raise sources. Could run that slow so to to me. You know this is just one. I'M GONNA forget very quickly but this would have forgotten about it by now. If I didn't have to talk about out of here I listen. I'm sure I'm sure a lot of other people feel are being too harsh. But what can I do. It's just the way I feel. You know maybe it's just I've got too many Committee races behind me.
Vikings Outlast Redskins for 19-9 Win
"Jim fourth for the rookie as he missed a wide-open target and there you have it Dwayne haskins throws the interception and the vikings just Kinda coast from there in nineteen to nine win on Thursday night football in Minneapolis a game where you didn't get a lot of Fireworks but you did get a very good steady kirk cousins performance only three incomplete passes Dalvin Cook continued to Daven Cook things ninety eight yards on the ground touchdown seventy three yards on five catches through the air so he continues to build an MVP resume Vikings get it done not pretty but they get
Remembering Trainer Bobby Frankel
"Who had a chance to to meet late probably frankly he had a very rough exterior but he absolutely the teddy bear description I if you bobby liked you it was probably nothing he wouldn't do for you but you Kinda had to break through the the crushed on the top I but he had a heart gold and he sincerely loved his animals and the he absolutely loved the people that work for them there were people that were bobby Franco who you know basically stayed there forever because bobby was sold warrior was on employees and took care of them that they had no reason to want to leave he was just a superb horseman super person and I was very happy to get to know Bobby Frankel on real positive basis absolutely another one and I got the same I've got the same story and I had the advantage of Siaka introducing US and and Lula's narrow and there there were a bunch of people the dotty and Gordo here there were I already had had a relationship with a lot of people that he was very close to so it was easy to have an entree that way but you know he's another and and I you know we had conversations on the air but I would also call Frankel off the air ask him for insights and you know on topics that were a lot of a lot of cases a topics that you know I I was grappling with understanding about you know about the game or or you know trying to formulate opinions medication issues and so forth and you didn't have to worry that that Bobby Frankel wasn't going to give you the you know that he wasn't gonNA shoot from the APP going to give you the gut reaction level the best the best story ever I wish it's too bad that asking is traveling we we were sitting we were having there was a big group dinner I bring this up with ask it every chance a group dinner at the Novi and still Sergio's at the time the Louis Louise at one end of the abol the Angel Cordero was there and they were all there's a whole by those big mix of people and Steve and Joan and and bobby and I can't remember Frankel was sitting across from or next to me I think across from me I think casket was next to me and we were talking we were talking about the election about the election and this would have been this would have been something with with Rob Haskins comes out with how he's voting for Romney and Franken Frankel looked at it said you gotta be the worst it's W. I'll never if people would be surprised but maybe but Frankel was was very very liberal and progressive and I don't ever ever forget that the world's top is Joe for that more I was the greatest great story I I was excited to see that site of bobby as far as politics concerned but it's really interesting to hear too
Ranking the Best Wide Receivers in College Football This Season
"All let's talk to Tom for Nelly from CBS sports in the athletic you can follow him on Twitter at Tom for Nelly time it's Kristin Adam this evening and if we take a look back on week four of the college football season the most impressive win last weekend was clearly Wisconsin beating Michigan right. yeah I I have a hard time coming up with one that was better I mean that was a situation where Wisconsin had looked really good in its first two games of the season I mean it'd outscored South Florida and central Michigan a hundred and ten to nothing but the problem was it against South Florida central Michigan and we really didn't know how good it was awhile Michigan itself might not be as good as maybe we thought it was going to be before the year at least that's what kinda shaky in the first three weeks that was still Michigan that without the without their in completely dominated on Saturday medicine that I mean that was just it wasn't like a situation where we see with the with the scouts of the past with squeak by one of the better teams the big ten that would that game was never in doubt and it leaves a lot more questions about Michigan and Wisconsin because if you look at the big ten right now I mean I thought going into the season that the west division was going to be wide open but based on what we seem to the first four weeks I'm already ready to write it shake you know Wisconsin's winning that division and it's probably gonna be in Indianapolis putting Ohio state at the to see that I feel like the division to the conference are already settled based on what we've seen so far and on the other side of that Ohio state continues to dominate they look like they're not even missing urban Meyer they're not skipping a beat whatsoever do they look like the team that's most likely going to be representing the big ten in potentially a college football playoff. I I think that if if the big ten is going to play out this year it's it's going to be Ohio state I feel like Wisconsin if they somehow with undefeated and then beat Ohio state in the big ten title game maybe the badges to get it it's just when you look as far as Taylor could level Ohio state is up there with Alabama it's up there with Georgia it's up there with you know Oklahoma cleansing it's a very talented team and the question coming in was with urban Meyer gone with the wind Haskins moving on to the NFL with Ryan day be able to step in and keep things moving in with Justin field step into the offense and you know not have any kind of transition period because well field had been a very highly touted recruit coming out of high school he didn't really play a whole lot while he was still in Georgia and when he did he was typically in special packages re wasn't really being asked to throw the ball much of there were a lot of questions about what he was going to look like in an office with the onus is on it and so far you look fantastic the Ohio state offices with fantastic and more importantly than anything that defense is is phenomenal there are a bunch of NFL draft picks on that Ohio state defense they have a great pass rush defense mensuration August probably going to be somebody who when he leaves scholars and goes in the NFL he will be one of the first five players selected in his draft so when you look at that team on both sides of the ball right now they have the best offense in the big ten and they might have the best defense in the big ten so when you look around it's like it's really hard to think that anybody in that conference is going to be our state but as we've seen in recent years Ohio state always has that one game in the words they just kind of don't show up and they get beat or they get upset so that's gonna be my biggest question with a high state the rest of the season can they avoid that let them give that they always seem to have time for Nelly talk is crisp like an animal Dolly here on ESPN one thousand in the ESPN app you know we covered the Wisconsin part of that came from last weekend but image at in Ann Arbor with Michigan how can they fix is going forward they tried to fix the offense in the off season and clearly it is still broken and now it seems like the deep. this is broken as well. yeah I I think for me the defense right now is the bigger concern because I know that often has not look good but like you said they installed an entirely new offense over the offseason they're not just you know they they're completely trying to change their identity of what they are on offense and through three games they've been dealing with a bunch of injury from the office supply like against army they're missing both their starting tackles they're missing office of wind against Wisconsin and also in the first two games Donovan people Jones their wide receivers probably you know the game breaker on that off at the big play threat he was injured for the first two games as well so we haven't really had a chance to get wrapped together on the field with their first unit offense fully healthy and I think that when you're learning a new offense then you're not getting wraps it's going to show on the field and it has a big say Patterson is also exacerbated the problem because he's have problems adapting any has not played all

"You're upset that they promise these big things in delivered a six and ten season again but the apathy is what really impacts the business in. These are the kinds of things that lead to it. It's not just the results it's the offputting nature of the organization and the way the organization behaves and what they allow and the culture inner tommy's in here all the time in a lot of you get upset with howie rips the dysfunction in the culture but he's right to terrible culture. It's a culture that's not conducive to success you know and so many of you know exactly what i'm talking about. You've been in in winning. Organizations are winning companies and you would love to just have one meeting with the entire franchise in front of you in a in an auditorium to say look. This is who we are. We don't run our mouths. We deliver on the field. We are not going to tell people how great we are. We are going to show them and if you do tell people in advance. You're gonna be fine. There's going to be a punishment for those of you. That can't keep your mouth shut. We have a business here. That's teetering on the brink of being nothing. We've seen revenues dropped significantly. We've seen fans erode. We've seen seen a fan base erosion. That's that's accelerated in recent years to the level that no other franchises had and it's not just the losing. It's the way we behave behave. We've got to change that. I like josh norman i do this is the part of the organization those of you that have listened to me over the years that you i know i hate more than anything because i lived through classy winning. I lived through. Nobody told you they just showed you and they showed you <unk> over and over and over again for suitable visits three super bowl wins in the hunt every single early years sustained success from nineteen eighty one through nineteen ninety two a twelve year run of winning and a twelve year run of behaving like winners and this has been a loser for twenty years and when you hear these players players on the team continuing to promise you of great things you know now. You're not a full. You've been full too many times. Yes i mean i would say josh norman. Why are you saying this. You realize that your customer base is laughing at you for saying this that it's been promised so many times in not delivered delivered that they'd just rather you be quiet and not say anything. Just go out there and actually have a big year. You got paid a lot of money and you've produced not one playoff game. You haven't played in one playoff game here. How about play a playoff game before you start talking about an all time defense or the greatest secondary you've ever been part of here. <hes> that's it. <hes> sorry about cooley <hes>. We'll get him some time this week tom. You'll be in tomorrow have a great day..

"He wanted his team team to be dialed in on that opponent. Nobody was better at putting up. The opponent's quotes buddy ryan when he got to philadelphian in the way the eagles would run their mouths without delivering its what the redskins have been for twenty years under this terrible owner. That's what they've been. The culture allows for them to constantly constantly boasts to constantly prop themselves up with words and back it up with nothing but losing josh gosh norman should know better. I mean he was in a winning organization. He knows what one really looks like and if he actually believes that the defense could be all time. Let it sneak up on everybody this year. Don't put it out there and some of you always you say to me. Hey if you if you believe that you should say. What are you want them to say. You want to say that. We stink that. We're not going to be no. I don't want him to say anything. I want and to keep their mouths shut and show me not tell me anymore. It won't happen though in this organization that's a culture that's established by why ownership by management you know that's why in the good organizations. You don't see a lot of this. You don't hear a lot of this now. There's some organizations that'll let it fly and they have outspoken personalities. You can't keep can't shut up but in the good organizations those players have produced before they start running their mouth in this organization people show up landon collins predicting super bowls plural talking about <unk> out. The revenge is going to get on the giants. You know ryan clark. A few years back talking about this is the best secondary i've ever seen. What are you talking about. You played with troy ala malo in pittsburgh. Are you serious. You trent williams year. He predicted that they would have the hogs two point. Oh and they'd have a top five rushing attack. A culture allows that to happen. You know you've gotta have ownership and management that says we don't talk here we let are we let our actions speak for us because what happens in a business is when you over promise and under deliver deliver as much as the redskins have over the years you piss customers off you make them angry and then eventually when you continue to do it and you continue to not back it up you get apathy in apathy crushes a business especially in entertainment business. A business like professional football anger's at least an emotion you know and you're still hanging in there. You're angry..

"I don't have much more on this and i'm hopeful that cool will be available but <hes> we may not know that for another take fifteen minutes all right so okay you know case keenum. Let's let's go have ourselves from case keenum. I'm not a big fan of keenum. I'm not against him like. I don't think he stinks <hes>. I just don't think you're going one anywhere with case keenum. I don't think you're going anywhere with cole mccoy and my preference from the jump would-be especially after i saw them in the preseason game against cleveland and cincinnati is as you know i've said it all along. If if dwayne is close enough to case just get him in there i mean let's just start the process. You know that's the business plan. That's the redskins skins b- long-term business plan. It doesn't include case keenum. It doesn't include case keenum under contract on the roster. It includes someone else down the road that is backing up dwayne haskins. Dwayne haskins is the quarterback of the future and the quicker you get to the future of the quicker. You're going to be able to turn a profit if if you're right about him because you're not turning a profit with case keenum or colt mccoy now some of you will say well you can't you know have him take the business over and lead it until he's ready to turn a profit and if that's the case of settle all along if dwayne haskins is so far off that they fear that he can't protect himself they fear that the the whole offense won't be able to be productive in it'll affect everybody else in you..

"It's not even close to it. In my view anyway <hes> no adam did what he supposed to do and he's done very well all over a long period of time and that is a story and break before any of his competitors do. I didn't get that reaction at all again. If this were something really serious like he's really sick and he has to quit football because he's gonna die in six months or less then and that's that's a conversation about. Do we wanna break this story or do. We want it to come from. You know from andrew. It's probably a conversation that you know you go straight to andrew and you say right andrew you know right. When are you doing. You know i have this story before. It's absolutely happened before you know. Maybe you work out in an interview after to hold something along those lines. That's right so anyway. That's how i feel about that <hes> overall look. We're going to miss out potentially again. I'm predicting that he's back within two years <hes> but if he isn't we we this is one of those careers that ended that we talk about his sports fans for the rest of our lives that we didn't get a chance to see andrew luck continuous career you know last year was odd in that early on in the season remember they came here and played. You know he didn't look like andrew. Luck at times like there was some of those balls that he threw early in the year where he was almost was pushing them and remember there was that <hes> wasn't there that one play at the end of a half were he came out and maybe percent win to throw the hail. Mary mary yeah right that was that was luck. I believe so there was some concern about him last year but he ended up having a hell of a year you know last year thirty nine touchdowns last year after missing all of two thousand seventeen fifteen picks forty five hundred plus yards won a playoff game on the road and then they lost to the chiefs ten and six overall record you know but his first three years by the way are marino like you know by the way record wise the first three years rookie year eleven and five second in your eleven and five third year eleven five three straight playoffs got to the a._f._c. title game his third season was forty touchdown sixteen picks forty seven hundred jordan sixty one yards it was a prolific career that he was in the midst of halted here and there the last couple of years because of the you know why he's retiring these injuries and the rehabbing and and all of it but <hes> yeah i mean when you consider that essentially he played six seasons as a starting quarterback. We missed out in most great quarterback. You know hall of fame type of quarterback careers. We missed out on two times that minimum two times that a twelve year career so we had another six seasons minimum to enjoy one of the best quarterbacks in the game and perhaps to see him get even better but maybe maybe that's the point is that he wasn't going to get any better if he were always going to be hurt the conversation about hall of fame <hes> i don't i don't i don't think so at six years not at sixty six years no m._v._p.'s right no no no m._v._p. S. so it's what you're basically lee saying that if you're putting him in the hall of fame it's because you think he would have if he hadn't retired and in this case when it's not a sickness when it's not a you you know some tragic accident or something. I don't think you can extrapolate that career for the hall of fame the only i don't know if this is the only only comp gale sayers would be sort of the cop. I mean gale sayers retired and went twenty nine years old and was inducted -ducted into the hall of fame at thirty four years old..

"Fox sports radio fox sports. Radio gottlieb's been a college basketball analyst but been doing talk radio for a long period of time. Do you know i did <hes> sicily twelve thirteen years ago. There was a fantasy football <hes> draft with e._s._p._n. Radio guys going market to market and gottlieb in. I a hosted event together doing that. <hes> it was fine but he he i think he's one of those guys at rubs a lot of people the wrong way you know well <hes> i actually think his basketball analysis very good but he tweeted out quote retiring retiring cause rehabbing rehabbing is too hard is the most millennial thing ever hashtag andrew luck. Did you see tory smith response to that torrey smith miss. I didn't you still credit cards because working was quote too hard yeah well. That's the that's the that's the problem with gottlieb whenever he takes a shot at anybody on social media. He's going to hear about him. Stealing credit cards when he was a freshman at notre dame. He got busted for stealing credit cards using them and got kicked out of notre. Dame ended up at at oklahoma state <hes> where he had a pretty decent career as a college basketball player but anyway <hes> the reaction was all over the place you know in everybody's entitled to their own opinion. Here's mine and it's a it's not that deep. I i will preface it with. I don't know i a lot of times. I don't get worked up over a lot of these things when they're not you know it's shocking. It's stunning but it's his right. It's his his life right here. My take is essentially this a. It's his life. He doesn't want to spend it in pain. He doesn't want to spend it rehabbing from pain. Some players love football football so much that they will absorb anything and do anything to get back out there and play some have to do it. Some must do it because they can't can't afford not to do it. He didn't wanna do it anymore. And it's also true that he could afford to not want to do it anymore. Why will because he's earned ninety seven point one million dollars over the course of his career there many players and many people in various lines of work that don't don't have that option of saying my quality of life sucks. I am in pain <hes>. They don't have that option because they can't afford to quit <hes> he did. I believe personally that four competitive person and in my view of andrew luck is this that he is not self absorbed absorbed. He's very self aware that he's interesting that he's smart that he's curious. He's also clearly very wealthy from this football career but that this was is a very difficult decision for him by the way it wasn't made overnight. I do think there was some impulse to the decision and the press conference revealed some of that that right now he's caught up in this cycle of pain rehabbing pain rehabbing and he sees this right. Now is the only way out <hes> but but more than that. I think that this was a decision by a guy who recognizes that he's making taking a decision that first of all is going to take something that he enjoys very much away from him <hes> football and competing in something <hes> that it's hard to replicate anywhere else. It's hard to replicate that kind of competition in less. You're really involved in the success or failure of a competitive business. I think some people get that same russian that same satisfaction from competing in business and maybe other lines of work as well but i think the other part of this that was hard for for luck and completely you know projecting here and guessing but he strikes me as the kind of person that understands the ramifications of him not being involved called in the organization anymore. There are a lot of you that are probably listening right. Now that understand that you know if you were to leave your company i'm right now. Either as the head out of it or the head of sales or is the number one salesperson or whatever but more not in more cases than not it would be a significant owner of the business where you're employing being people and peoples income in people's lifestyles are contingent upon you showing up in performing and you continuing to work you know a lot.

"Terrible pass interference and then there was a third eighteen and they got another one yeah. It was nuts it was i mean that game in between the penalties and just the tackles gio is that one touch where the guy just bounces off of him when they're trying to tackle running back for miami. Yeah dallas is lasting yeah. He looks like a pro. He looks like a pro but that was also terrible terrible out doing that. Was it was a game. I really enjoyed watching but as you said it was not a good game it it was not a well played yet. It was a good watch in my view. There was intensity. There's a lot of jawing flip a franks every time he made a great play. I mean he's over on the sideline. I'd line you know riling up the the miami fans strange the whole franks behavior on saturday night and by the way i like florida this year. I like come less after watching francs. I was hopeful that he'd take the next step and it's really hard to judge off off of one game early. That first game of the college football season tends to be like like the preseason game and the second game teams come back and they're much better good for florida for surviving it. It keeps some of their hopes alive crazy game but anyway to get to. I brought up brought it up initially <hes>. I didn't play the game. I didn't like the game one way or the other. I didn't like the over under. I didn't like florida laying. What was it seven and a half eight to have a belief <hes> and so. I didn't play the game but had halftime. Florida is down thirteen seven at the break erin. They've turned it over twice. They've made every mistake in the book. You could see the line of scrimmage difference between florida's defensive front and miami's offensive line with a young quarterback. <hes> jaren williams who i actually thought started off pretty well. I didn't think they did enough to protect him. Though like there should've been more screens draws and whatever but at halftime i went to check to see what the second half line was and it was florida minus six down six and i'm like this line of scrimmage difference more than anything else. I'm there is no way miami's gonna hold up against this defensive front. I mean i. I mentioned this one of the reasons. I like florida <hes> going into the season. It's one of the reasons. I liked them to have a really good year. Last year is the speed that they have on defense and i'm talking about the interior speed that the defensive line it's it's unbelievable how fast they are and how athletic they are. They sacked jaren williams eleven times in the game. How many games do you see where a quarterback get sacked eleven times and then there were holding penalties galore that would've ended up in sacks <hes> but but i just looked at that i'm like there is no way florida's not winning this game and they're down six in their land six on the second half line which means all they gotta do is win. The game side played florida. My i wager is florida minus six in the second half line winter. You're under the total winner. We get off to a good football season circus. I do not bet preseason football so little bankroll going into the week one of the college football season. We will have a smell test here on friday. Maybe even one on thursday before before the thursday night games maybe <hes> i haven't even looked at the board yet. Have you anytime very little bit because most of those games are i know you know you got clumps by thirty five and a half and that's what's alabama favored by overdue. I don't remember gotta be four touchdowns right. I assume assume it's around there. I can pull it up here. <hes> clemson you know place thursday night on have you watched is the network available on comcast here. Locally glucose checked okay. I haven't either because it debuted last week yesterday. <hes> the interest level now that i don't have a alma mater in the the a._c._c. anymore with is zero <hes> but i would imagine that there'd be some really good programming on the s._e._c. Network dealing with basketball tradition. Oh maryland may be a big part of that programming absolutely alabama thirty four and a half thirty four and a half <hes> <hes>..

"Game enjoying haskins and i'll share that with you in a little bit but i i wanna start with actually college football because that's what aaron and i like more than anything else and and the fact that i place my i wager of the football season. I didn't like the game you know. I didn't like the game you you play. Did you play the underdogs you you play miami. No i just played the under in the game the under in the game which hit yes did so a winner for you. I was watching this game. If you missed the game name it was really intense for an opening game i. I don't know how i felt about week zero aaron. That's what they call this this past weekend we g- zero zero one game actually there were two games hawaii played arizona later on that night and why won a beat arizona's as a double digit underdog <hes> but the miami <hes> the florida miami game was i. I don't know if this is gonna be a new trend of having a game or two in week zero before next weekend this coming weekend which is the first full fledged weekend of the year but man. They picked a good one to start. It was not well played there. Were there were mistakes galore lower. I think there were a combined twenty four penalties. There were combined five turnovers. It was sloppy as early season. Football in college. Football tends to be because they don't play preseason games and but the intensity of that game in front of a packed house in orlando in a rivalry game. I thought it was a great watch. Start back to finish and it was a crazy game because at one point in the first half i thought florida was gonna blown out and then the second half and miami comes back and actually has the lead because two turnovers over florida committed and then florida's got the game basically iced with three and a half to go after miami gets stopped. Actually i may have been a turnover that spot twenty four twenty and for whatever reason they got philippi franks on first down back. They're throwing the football. He throws a pick and then you got into this situation where miami had a fourth and thirty seven seven and got a p._i..

"You want it. You need it. It's what everyone's talking about. The kevin sheehan show now. Here's kevin i'm here erin. It's monday <hes> a lot of things to get to some of it will be repetitive from the radio. Show if you'll if you listen to the radio show. I am cautiously optimistic. We'll have a guest on the show today in that guest would be one christopher cooley who did tell me on friday <hes>. I can't do friday but i can do monday and the problem. Is that <hes>. I haven't been able to reach him. <hes> in the phone is going right to voicemail which tells me the phone is either out out of battery or <hes> lost <hes>. He loses his phone. He loses credit cards. He loses wallets. He loses keys. <hes> he is absent minded. <hes> the that's a lot of brilliant people increases incredibly smart and innately intel intelligent but he just loses things in. He's not always so organized. I would say that he's probably misplaced or lost his phone no less than a half dozen times over the last half dozen years. There's probably an average of one lost phone per year imagine losing using your phone once a year. That's hard to do if you're like beyond seven years old seventy. Nobody gives a seven-year-old a phone trying to think of when when my kids i got got their first phone probably say no one gives seven-year-olds more and more. They're getting <hes> phones that young getting a matt early yeah my my my boys. I think we got them their first phone when they were thirteen twelve thirteen. They were in middle school. They weren't they. They weren't much younger. I could be wrong. I can't remember. I don't remember anything anymore. It's different there now. The smartphones give it to them so they can play games and stuff when they're on the road and then eventually you know they have the vote plans or whatever well the a lot of it too is just you know you're able to track where that are and you know there's some in security and safety in in your kids having a phone with the location tracker in the whole thing on there all right so <hes> i am hopeful that we will have cooley on the show show today if not we'll try to do it tomorrow or wednesday tommy will be on tomorrow <hes> but i really did want to get into the atlanta game and what he saw what he didn't see what what he liked what he didn't like and also the news over the weekend which was hardly surprising <hes> that jay gruden has selected case keenum to be the starter <hes> for the opener against against philadelphia however if you're listening to the radio show <hes> this morning <hes> and you probably laughed at this <hes> as many of you did but i have a hunch <hes> about that philadelphia alfio.
Jones shines again as Giants beat Bengals
"It preseason NFL giants beat the bangles twenty five twenty three line manning one series for eight forty one yards of as a field goal Daniel Jones nine eleven a Buck forty one he finished out the first half he led a touchdown drive a couple of big throws against pressure as well play this for you one more time because I love the chip on the shoulder of Pat Shurmur pre season I know there's been a lot of questions about Jones where he got picked we know the whole deal but I mean the guy is not even take in a regular season snapping just losing arrogance and you can ask me all you want about why I like him I think it's time to start asking the people that didn't like and what they think quite frankly quite frankly like the way it goes up at the end point frankly yeah yeah all the giants be reporters have filed that one away yes they have filed out one way freeze giants defense though right I mean when they made the pick you had they were making fun to get on the on the headlines and then today the back page of the post is their apparent right there ready ready to you know a lot of carbon for the kid out there I understand that's the way it works but he's playing both sides to so that's a you know this the whole Daniel Jones discussion it needs context I mean I think we sort of yes forgotten about everything that was going on they passed on a quarterback the year before he said and then like any other quarterbacks then they had two first round picks and they took a guy that most people believe was going to be there at seventeen and they needed so much help on defense and it was a guy there and Josh Allen who lasted like five and a half seconds after the death of Joe something before the Jaguars Biggs's sprinted up there and did a did a dance because it could take Josh Allen so there's a lot that was going on the old L. Beckham junior trade that it happened Dave Gelman was in this world where people didn't understand what he was doing I mean that's what you know what's going on is your time so wasn't all about the Daniel Jones pick it was just there was just so much happening and swirling around your it is ation so and and I you know if he was taken at seventeen who would have been a big deal it really what are you one that believes though he would have been there at seventeen I don't know enough about me I thought at the time yes I did but then you've heard a lot of people say that it would have been I don't know we're never going to know I don't know right you were never going to now and then general manager never gonna tell you the truth especially the ones at the quarterbacks we're gonna say we would have taken this guy what I we have a process the Redskins are going to say that and get him and of course I'm sure thinking I if I love this guy so much I'm not going to live with myself I roll the dice wait till seventeen and he sat there and that's what we wanted them to do all along was take a quarterback at zero with a first round draft choice want to take one the year before and instead they took Barkley and obviously that's worked out we want them to do it just seems like a weird choice at that time and we also had on this show at least boomer who was just you know the the Duane asking talk for three or four months straight and that's for the non I kind of want them to take Haskins as well because it would have been good for the show any seem like an exciting player all that stuff and I saw him play more than I saw Daniel Jones Plano who didn't I mean that's what comes down has sold Wayne Askins play in big games and play really well in big games are you excited me
Daniel Jones Has Very Strong Giants Debut
"NFL preseason rookie QB debut yeah you run around the National Football League Haskins and not so not so great with the Washington Redskins throws a couple interceptions including one that goes back to the house Daniel Jones was terrific for the giants five a five sixty seven yards and a touchdown on his loan I was loaned singular Dr Danielle had the football behind center last night for the giants in calamari last night for the Arizona Cardinals what six to seven forty four yards in his loan drive as well so I they go for the most part you know two out of three ain't bad I think Askins look more like you would expect the rookie would look in preseason game number one I thought Jones look the best I think Colin Murray was of you know of a clear second last night behind Joe I mean if you're gonna do it and she caught start yeah van scholar Mari you've caught between Haskins and you'd start Daniel yeah
Which college produces the best NFL talent?
"A special edition of N._F._l.. Live on deck today at the N._F._l.. Celebrates one hundred season just six weeks away however we are just five weeks away in college. Football Opens It one hundred fiftieth the anniversary so today welcome N._F._l.. You were combining the two worlds to answer age-old question what college produces the best n._F._l.. Talent however I'm Wendy net sand Hutus here you know what's better to be on this panel our expert notice icy expert telling me when Lewis Minute of her panter on the list not on the House for back the quarterback guru he and his brother in a lot of N._F._l.. Games James A lot and Ryan Clark. You see the L. L._S._U.. They are ills college football. L. Is Jonathan Vilma bike. He will join US shortly. He happened to win a National Championship and Oh by the way a super bowl as well coming up on N._F._l.. Live will break down position by position which college produces the best quarterback Oklahoma has the number one overall pick the last two years we have the top ten plays all the N._F._l.. Superstars when they were in college and answering big question which school produces the best all time N._F._l.. Talent we had to ask the players themselves to kick things off. We're the first pick quarterback Oklahoma Viva say Oklahoma Alabama Clemson because proven it is one atop factory the Ohio state highest in Alabama. 'cause I never lost beat out. You really can't understand it into your inside. Sadness programming is all about the you for N._F._l.. Because of Georgia in every aspect but I think L._S._U.. CRESA environment of gray competition and guys is trying to feed off of IT University of Pittsburgh. You Got Dorset. Dan Marina you got Larry. Fitzgerald was not a me show. It's about having everybody involved in working for the Sandal clumps in would cushman he's been doing. He's making people believe everything is possible for House is the best our stop it. Stop stuff well. Let's start shall we with the most players from each college currently in the N._F._l.. Alabama leads the way with V with sixty five players players followed by Ohio state in second place with fifty eight so we're going to debate these schools I in terms of who is best at producing N._F._l.. Challenge here's a tale of the tape on Alabama at Ohio state success since the two thousand draft folks tools I have had thirty one first round picks the most of any school while the Buckeyes have thirteen more total picks in the last twenty drafts but Bama's players have been slightly more successful in the league producing three more pro bowlers than Ohio St Louis Rick. Let's start with with the crimson tide. They're starting eleven if you will offense and defense current N._F._l.. Talent there's any question that these are both very impressive lineups that if Alabama can roll these teams out there right now now. I think they'd win a few games without a doubt. If you look at the offense aside outside of the ball the first thing that jumps out of these starting eleven are the two wide receivers look Julio. Jones is one of the finest athletes in the N._F._l.. For guardless of position he's in the news right now because he's about to get a new contract extension and he's really one of the he's one of the transcendent players at the position that this game the scene Amari Cooper the same way. When Amari came out of college? I remember doing his tape in thinking point honestly as far as catching one pet and run wide receiver. I hadn't seen one as good as him as him. In a long long time on the defensive side look they have fine players throughout the eleven here really that when you get to the secondary and you guys like Eddie Jackson Landon Collins I mean these guys are disband tastic players on the front dont`a hightower our multiple time superbowl winner. These are great great players right here. Make our way to Columbus shower of the to Ohio state you go to the offense side of the football. Look the first thing that jumps out without a doubt as Ezekiel Elliott because if he's not the best running back in the N._F._l.. He would be considered a top three running back in the N._F._l.. Wide Receiver Michael Thomas Really someone who was unheralded coming out of college. He's a tremendous tremendous. Pro will probably be the highest paid wide receiver in the N._F._l.. In short time then move over to the defensive side of the ball this this is where really this football team really kind of jumps off the board starting up Front Joey Bosa Cam Hayward those are two of the best defense alignment in the N._F._l.. Right now and then when you look down there at the Secondary Malcolm Dyson Dinkins Denzel Ward Marshon Lattimore doesn't let's get much better than that. All right Jonathan Vilma made his way again surly qualified to weigh in on this discussion. Look I mean there's a shortage of talent with either of these squads. It's almost ridiculous factory and a lot of ways both of these institutions but let the debate again a Ryan Clark. You can't pick L._S._U.. Just yet but when you look at this group what stands out L._S._U.'s better than both of these things we're gonNA get to that. We're supposed to be talking outlets. Let's be honest. There's amazing players. Neither one of them have a quarterback right before proven yet though little I mean why don't we always have to see something first before we can get you well Ray Richardson running back right you saw God compare that with you why time gentlemen we're GonNa play Nice Got Ninety minutes ago. You're the Glenn Difference from every other position that we're looking at okay fair enough now back to you Louis. It is a production results oriented industry. Is it not so it is fair to say seeing something. Does one believe they'll be success won't sure but I mean we're we'll see this is kind of like a combination of what they have done in college. What some of these guys have done in the pros in some of it's a little bit of projecting about what they're gonNA continue to do in the pros? That's how I'm going to expand it to that all right so at quarterback quarterback Dwayne Haskins I believe right now. There's no comparison as far as I don't care what A._J.. McCarron did it Alabama cows tape. Those Wayne has close exact Haskins is going to be a fine football player. What's going to happen to him? Really is going to be more predicated on what Washington redskins overall due to him then what he does to himself. I firmly believe that as far as these rousers overall look the wide receiver position Julio Jones Amari Cooper. Julio Jones's the standard if you go and look N._F._l.. For an offices and look in their scouting books books every team has a standard at every position that they put for scouts the suit for as far as whenever when their scouting people polio is going to be on that list for for many many teams he's about as good as it gets so skill positions at Alabama are awesome. The defensive players at Ohio State is what stands out for me as far as their front seven is concerned particularly their defensive line and their secondary Denzel Award Marshon Lattimore. You tell me a team that wouldn't take those two young men right now and startled. Let me ask you a specific question since you spend some time as an analyst watching these players at the collegiate level if you had to choose either of this group Alabama Ohio state who's players really got better or who took a bigger step forward than you anticipated when they got to the N._F._l.. Out To you to dance your last part no neither standout. They're pretty equal because watching these guys watching Jonathan Allen he played okay well Dante. I'll tell you knew who is going to be tremendous player defensive player C._J.. Moseley's same thing and then you go to the other side and you look at Joey Bosa Nick Bosa Darren like Malcolm Jenkins. I play with Malcolm Jenkins in in New Orleans knew he was going to be a study. He's Philistine but what is surprising how fast or House they defense is. I did not realize how fast defensive you think big ten you didn't big Brawley guys not so fast but these guys can move joey. Bosa also can move nick volks in Darren League. We know the Burner Malcolm J. Denzel War March. I mean that is a very very talented athletic fast fast defense. I thought I was going to jump in your rookie. I think that's a great question Wendy about as far as what teams teams have players that have gotten better pros. You look at Ohio state this look at their offense. In particular Michael. Thomas was a good wide receiver to hire Stayton. He's fantastic now. He's GonNa be highest paid wide receiver in the N._F._l.. Andrew Norwell most people wouldn't even know Andrew Norwell well what from Andrew Doorbell he right now just judge Moore Norwell can't open open some N._F._l.. Spectacular and even on the defensive side of the ball. I didn't think Marshon lattimore. I've liked Marshon Lattimore at Ohio state. I didn't love Marcet. He has taken his game to another level as well in the really own Alabama side you know how I feel about Alabama I feel nick and what he does and how he builds his program but really focus on their offense align that was just look okay and think about that question. Wendy Wendy asked how many players have gotten better how many have continued to improve Andre Smith may have his best days at Alabama. Dame's carpenter has really been good pro Brian Kelly the jury still out he could be a he's a good player. He's GonNa play already in Indianapolis D._J.. fluker was he ever ever really that guy that dominant guy no. He hasn't been Cam Robinson. Have you seen story so it's interesting because they're preventing people have been many people who've hit Alabama and said they get the best out of their players at Alabama. Maybe it's good discussion legal where people go by what teams there drafted so we look at Michael Thomas he falls into a place where he needs an accurate passer and he's one of the most accurate passers all the time also about the place you land in ashore and how they develop you ask Josh Rosen he absolutely he knows that all too well. I ten Hasselbeck. The whole point of this is to pick one of our producers here a little bit we talked. I'm going Alabama mainly change quarterbacks. Yeah I think looks great point about the offensive line at Alabama because so many of them when you look at them just in terms of body type you're like Oh my God look at those guys body type wise but like I don't know that some of those guys have come in and be like Oh and they got a whole lot better. We're obviously splitting hairs here on this ongoing Alabama Lewis Sorry Nick. Oh from a hustle change your mind or did you stick the way said one because I don't care if between Haskins hasn't played. I think he's I think he's in the saints. Stratosphere is A._J.. McCarron so I like that I liked it their offense of line one of the things that talked about how they develop those guys on the defense aside but they're fun four plus their secondary this going with them Ryan Clark you have to pick one while I was brought here for one reason in one reason only when the Knicks because everyone knew it my answers it would be and what Tim Hasselbeck has proven is. You don't need a quarterback. That's really he's GonNa be Ohio state in Alabama that don't have quarterbacks guess what we don't need a quarterback back and by the way you don't want our first off was good enough for Bill Belichick your boy to draft him as Tom Brady's heir-apparent draft. We thought they they went to L._S._U.. Because this guy has what they decided to we throwing the ball all around the field Andrew Whitworth he's played a thousand years. There's a Guy Jerry go look at the Neil hundred may has like negative two percent body fat Michael Broncos out. There aren't key. We gotta wait on them but it's are are you at the back of position. That's all we got mad. I gotTa get here all even have to work conviction when you spoke scissors. I'm sorry I just so tim. I love your twenty. Two question your toughness Whoa West I've seen because as you know what fair enough he's at Alabama alum landon dare you wait into the circus that we've created. Sabin is a hall of Famer one of the best ever coach this game but specifically what does he do that has allowed such historic success at the university. Steve Alabama <hes> as a coach he speaks for as a coach. He represents his players as players coach. I would say he makes all this coach. Jim Harbaugh on Urban Meyer: 'Controversy Follows Everywhere He's Been'
"He and Jim horrible had some interesting takes on his old is old master I mean his old urban Meyer urban Meyer has dominated this robbery not just in the Jim Harbaugh era going back before Jim Harbaugh urban culture house state for seven years you want every single one of his match up against high against the Michigan including last year's domination was sixty two to thirty nine a blow out over the Michigan Wolverines last season at the horseshoe and Jim Harbaugh ways on Tim telecom these podcast was ask about urban Meyer who's no longer on the sideline he's in the booth for fox but this is what Jim Harbaugh had to say you know what I don't know if I disagree with us know whether he should have said it okay let's hear it or you can be judged on his record and what your record is overall what your record is within your conference and what your record is head to head matchups with with the other teams that you play right now how soon is the only team that has a has a better record than us has a better conference record in us and has the better head to head match up with this into your action when urban Meyer retired yeah he's really matters had a winning record the really the normal record everywhere is bent on also controversy follows in the words all right so that is that's a T. K. show on the athletic podcast networks in Carroll County bay area obviously those horrible from his nine or days and there is a really good reporter was with the mercury news for years I I listen I want a great concession by horrible he's got a winning record he Jacko by the way you know speak you said he beat him four times three of the four double digits right so they pretty much smoking over including last year but it the question is at what the question but the point is Jim Harbaugh's not wrong he's not he's just stating facts controversy has followed urban Meyer wherever he has been in its I don't know if it's if it's relevant because we all know that these things happen and go warning college football so is it worth the coach said in it especially if you might get helped up more these things somewhere down the line saying Jim Harbaugh's done anything but the fact that he's been dominated by urban Meyer it feels like sour grapes feels like we just but I can't beat him so I got a taste of the bad about it you should take the high road but herb is not there anymore herb is not on the sideline at Ohio state it's Ryan day now who hasn't had to replace a quarterback in Blaine Haskins who was phenomenal a for the Buckeyes last you were fifty touchdowns and obviously a first round draft pick in Justin field who came in from Georgia transfer market he's got to take over so it's like he's throwing gas on the fire that November thirtieth matchup between Michigan at the big house this year in Michigan house day it'll be better when it will be lively but he's supposed to win now yeah because of the transition that's going on it I'll state and the fact that he's going to do is fifty year he's got his quarterback for the second year in a row this last year we got she batters it is finally got his quarterback Jim Harbaugh is gonna find a way to you know take them to the college football playoff because all we needed was his quarterback great I didn't happen last year and you get a second year with the same guy it better happen this year he's not a **** I'm not buying the viral he's not on the hot seat that's going to happen but whether or not he's getting the job done at the level in which we thought you might that is obviously open for debate is all real or is it all one needs about championships allegedly at Michigan that they don't exactly it's about beating Ohio state they don't do that to me what is it really about look they haven't won a title since ninety seven missing and I get to think about where they were before Jim Harbaugh came there I wasn't good Brady Hoke rich rod behind and you weren't even like paying attention to me war because this Michigan yeah I work say and this team has a chance to win a national title was in the conversation any surprises in your one yes with ten ten to three ten and three is one ten times three out of the four years that he's been there a year two was eight five you lost a lot of guys on the on defense the NFL going to try to to be fair right yeah not to look I I urban Meyer never has those excuses I dictated doesn't have those issues that's because urban Meyer has controversy following him
