"Type films that feels like it was made by high school, and it did say that to. You did not like college movie. But it's got a bad budget than. College movie. The way the way the film was marketed makes me think of crank, but it's so poorly written and the characters idiots. That's what he says. I mean kind of but that you could make an argument. Yeah, because we're trying to portray how stupid everybody is nowadays. I mean you could say that I don't think that was the goal, but this one says. Watch for more than fifteen minutes. I've always thought of Daniel as a respectable boy, it would only be indecent movies. But this bathroom, humor and action. What's next annual a movie about? Star Star Star Star tournament in a public lavatory. Don't want him means by how many stars? For? F. E. C. K.. Folk Tournament in public lavatories. Maybe I was trying to be polite. Skip it if you want to keep a positive image of Daniel Radcliffe. Pick on the guy for doing his job doing his job well, apparently, because that's what that means, right. And this guy says. Worst movie ever no one wears a hat. High. You're right. That does make it pretty bad. I can't remember hot in the movie, Not True L.. Maybe a LEATHERMAN's load to those millions add like weird hats on the. Why does this guy have a hot wisey? He's just making a stupid comment. Well, pick up on that. It's just we wrong I. I want to reply. Telling me was wrong. He's not wrong. You Sing it on purpose. So yeah, no hot! So. Those are the people who didn't light this movie. A Lot I can see why people wouldn't like it, though I can be objective and say like I. Enjoy this movie, but I totally get. All of the weaknesses, and why someone would be like? Oh I so it's too much, and it's not got a good story and you know when he says you. This is not a love story then basically. It is kind of, but then it isn't but not like committed to that either. It's not written in a way. That pulls you out of the love story into like he story or anything like that so I. Get why People Might Watch and be like. What was that like what? Does this. Give to me about yeah, I! Let him constant violence, which I don't find that super entertaining isn't entertaining enough for you and I can overlook it because I'm digging the rest of the vibe of the movie. Not everyone does that. So, yeah, I'm like in the middle on. It said that to you like I. Do this kind of. Thing but the quite forgettable quickly. Unless they've got something really about them radio, not that we saw which was just had something about it, I remember. Like kind of, but then him having guns. Fascinating. One, like that's action, figure memory kind of thing. You could say I guess so that is guns, Akimbo I would give it a score of Maryland the like five ten. Yeah, just barely over from because it's above average in its effort to look. Interesting Yeah. I, mean I feel like everyone was committed to their character in a way that made sense except the the guy who should have been like the really scary bad guy who wasn't. That's scary. No, so sorry, sorry dude! If you're listening to this, but it just maybe you were supposed to be whacking weird, but that wasn't very scary. So thank you to Lionsgate. Next week we will review another movie, I. Don't know what it is yet, so I won't tell you what makes me think we're doing this review and we say bad things about a movie. Then some of these movie makers might come at us. This guy. This bad guy and this movie didn't like. Oh. Yeah people come into Harry. Potter was insulting, the people who were supporting him and so if we're oh, say makes you want to don't call him. Give everybody a nicer you just identify. Most famous role true gone. You'll is his name Daniel. I don't know him personally so I have to call Mr Ratcliffe okay. So I'M GONNA call him Harry Potter. Okay so move your recommendations I will recommend you a very very very independent movie called Turbo Kit. There is a it's like a throwback to the eighties BMX it's like. BMX MEETS Mad Max. meets. Evil dead kind of violence. Can goofy goal. And it's just an. It's real hard to it, and it's quite torching. Remember the poppy. I just really liked a lot about it. It's a cool eight cents music. You, probably never seen it I'm guessing. Because he's got a mixture of cynicism and hopelessness, but then yeah hopefulness, and it's just really there's GonNa. Be A. There's going to be a better day kind of vibe. Yeah, so if you like BMX, is the eighties synth music? Goal called Turbo Kid. Most people didn't see I'm sure so. Is this thing? See it. But you can see it somewhat. My other one. It's nerve with Emma Roberts which I didn't really like that movie I. Like the concept of it. Again. It was great now I. I don't know why like it someone do like it i? Like the! The overall concept and the you know it. It kind of did what it was trying to do better than old I. Think like you know it was a different vibe, but it was the same. People are watching it on the cell phones and. found. Tons of people are watching and it's becoming a phenomenon like this is that it was too pretentious like it was to It was more Hollywood. Let's say yeah, it was more like. Like it was made for like. You know fifteen year olds. Really because he wasn't gruesome. Rathan. By just like the concept so nerve and Turbo Kid am I am I for this year I have been doing one certain system where I'm recommending a movie from one hundred years ago and one from excuse me I'm GonNa be on. Are we boring you? Think my brain taught. If you look it up, that's why why on It's true. If you look it up, it's on the Internet. I'm going to recommend for today because it is our fourth of July for all of its you know glitz and glamour going to recommend to movies that just came to the front of my mind. One is called born on Fourth of July with Mr Cruz and one with Independence Day with Mr Will Smith. You've mentioned it already. We know what it's about. It's a great I went and saw it I will have delone in. Florida after my. First divorce. Only one so far. I'm sorry. I. That's a wife joke. We will get it. Don't we ladies? Okay? I went on the fourth of July, two in C. and dependency in the theater by myself with my budget I had barely any money I had no car. I had to take a bus to the theater. Edwige two hours because the bus was early in the morning for the first movie to start like at nine forty five in the morning, so it was up super early to get on the bus to go watch movies all day, and this was one of them i. just go would watch all the movies that I could in the time before the last bus would leave this area and then go back to our lived. Soundly, so she's help story. And I had enough. Punches and my card because we got enough movies, you get these punches and then get like free viewings or free popcorn I had enough to spend this whole day doing this, and so the first movie of that day was Independence Day and so when it comes up on the screen. You know it says like today. Independence Day or whatever and you're like. Oh! It is today. Exactly how? And Born on Fourth July on those intense. You know melodramatic character-driven making a statement kind of movies with Tom Cruise Net. All right so a scully stuff played xactly one game this week, but lost of us to. Sit Talk. Weirdly has watched the entire game, yeah. Weird. You don't generally watch me an entice you, but this is like a TV show like episodic. And we sit down. We watch a couple of TV shows. Then you play this game for a couple of hours. That's our evening. Entertainment on a believe tonight where we'll probably finish this I think you're right, yeah! How's it been so far to watch it? It's it's an interesting story. I like the sort of. I don't spoil anything, so don't talk about any of it. I think that'd be will after we've finished it. But. I just find it pretty riveting and what I find my interactive part of me is, and I said to you the other day. Get through any games without me because you. You miss a lot of things to pick up and you don't see the guy over there, and you don't see the thing over there and I'm like. Where are you going? It's over. It's right there like an up point and you're like. What am I get straight? And then you go like? How do you play? You played games for forty years how you succeeded without me I..

"It was just really well choreographed. Cool to look and the slow motion bullets flying a bit of bullet tie Albie, Old Lady, and say enough is enough with the old. On it doesn't do anything. Does. Is it necessary? For us to see blood flying out of twenty five different people with extreme reactions to being shots, and her being Super Ultra, portrayed super ultra, cool, and collected and very sexy and hot, and all that stuff all mixed together it just as a little bit much like it I'm not opposed to violence in movies and fiction. But then it's just like. Oh, it's dripping with it. which is is like it's overflowing. It's too much at some point or meaning Scotus. It's got its thing and sticks to it the entire time. It's that it's not this thing. It's sort of overdone at times when that takes away from the rest of the the goodness of the the movie itself I think. One thing I didn't and it spectrum. What unique I didn't know what it was going to be probably was. How like is kind of funny? There's a lot of funny commentary to stuff you know when he's talking to the homeless bonding, he needs some food. There's all that stuff. I mean. That's Slapsticky, but yeah. There's a jokes for a movie that deals in just like ultra violence and kill in. A law jokes all the way through it, and some of them are stupid. Don't get me wrong. There's some real dumb jokes right The some penis jokes right. I watched it I. Know Dumb Jokes Pretty Much covers it. There's a lot of that. That's what I'm saying if you go both directions where it's like. Dumb, mixed with ultra cool mix with violence, and yet you have no real. Big Message mixed in there then. It's just all that stuff all. Mucked up in a bucket. where it doesn't follow, it doesn't make its point with any of those things. If you want to be dumb and Goofy, then that's your thread, but it isn't Demographia all the way through. It's very it got. It gets serious, and it's dark moments and it's like. Heavy you know moral choice occasionally coming in there, but. I think it's just. It was like somebody going a little bit too much with their style over substance I'm. Ever so much one of the things. I thought by two I didn't like how it all goes off like it's never really that surprising. There's a couple of twists and turns which I didn't Kinda I. Mean I didn't see one of them coming, but most of them I did. And then it wraps up at the end and it's not particularly sci-fi correct in that way it just come out of it going well. That's cool visuals. Music and lights, interesting characters bought as a whole thing. It doesn't really do anything crack and everything us to say some things. But it's like it's trying to unveiling. Feels a bit like hollow in some way like it's like you're kind of one in something else a bit more of something. And maybe that's the trap was up for ourselves wanting. You know. More from story I don't know so. Let's move onto the cops. Daniel Radcliffe plays miles. What did you think of Daniel was good? WHO's done again? Daniel Radcliffe. He's just an actor guy. A British actor would doesn't American accent. Let me, never seen the Harry Potter foams. None of them. You've seen one. No I. Didn't actually see the whole thing. It was playing on TV and I watched like the first bit. So no I haven't seen that one I saw to it was the first movie and somebody they were in some house. And something got delivered at the House. Is that right? I! Remember any right down the chimney awesome. This literally like the first minute. Bus. The parcel isn't stop watching the movie I did it was just on like like when you're watching TV and then the commercials came on, and then it just never went back in March the rest of it. I didn't intend to watch turned on when it was off. So I haven't seen any of it, so I don't know if. Daniel, Radcliffe, a great actor or anything because I haven't seen him in anything else, we. I don't recall anything. I mean the might be something. Sure there's wasn't the was at him in that one with the. Highest or was that the hype that it wasn't called the highest, it was a heist. And he was like A. Lookout Guy. No, but we have seen something K. Swiss army mom. Played a dead body A. You time challenging. I mean so yeah. That's it I haven't seen. I've looked at all the others not seen anything so I've seen him play in a dead body. That fats. That's literally what he was right. watch interesting movie that by the way Swissarmy Mon.. You make it sound riveting by your. Isn't it is interesting? I thought. I've never seen anything quite light on. Let me say challenging. Yes, I liked it, but yeah, it's a challenge, so that's all of ever seen him in, and he's literally dead in the movie. So. You can say I don't know about is acting seemed a bit wooden. Like a coffin I get. So. Did you like him in this. Committed, to this right, it seemed like he was really into it. So I I really enjoyed his every little bits and pieces that he did. From struggling with the hands with the guns to you know. I just I did I was never. He wasn't over the top. which in this situation be very easy to be like super. Hammy up. You know this is a very extreme kind of a movie and I feel like he just was that guy. And Samara weaving who we were introduced to very recently, we haven't seen it before in ready or not..

Lego Super Mario is the break from reality we need

"Super Mario. Lego P- on paper. These two properties are perfect together, but as a real life. Super Mario make it worth your time? I'm ready Chang and this is your daily charge. With me, is senior editor at large and amateur magician Scott Stein Hey Scott Hey, Roger. Get deductive virtually. Intendo made some ways back in March when they tease this new set, and it seems like it's a match made in heaven, but in Fort Listeners. Can you break down? What Lego Super Mario actually looks like, and it's different from the standard Lego set sure so I've looked at Lega. ROADWORK sets before like lego boost, which are wines that have real electronic pieces in there in sensors and can be pretty complicated, but have a lot of rewards. This is kind of like a step down idea. If, you've also played games like super. Mario Maker for the switch. which where you make your own levels, this is a brick sat where you're building a couple of preset courses that are basically easy to construct lego bricks for ages about six or seven up, and there is a core lego Mario figure that runs on batteries that has a sensor on the bottom, and even a little screen and makes noises that can bob on coded bricks that do various things, so there's a start and an end, and there's a time challenge, and you basically have to collect as many coins before the time runs out by Bopping, doing these little physical or block bopping things, can you? Can you give me an example of what some of those noises are? What does Mariachi say sure I've actually got the Lego? Mario figure with me here so if I turn on, you can hear. He says Lego Mario time when he starts if you shake him. He's a little accelerometer. So he does things when you jump or were you tap on the table when he? When turn off as to see later. He sinks with your with your with your screen. Or android the idea there is that there's not you don't need to have the phone or tablet near by, but you do need it to set it up. It's got the instructions at so they connected toy. which is what Lego's robotics kits are like to the instructions? Are there and when you get scores? You can upload it to the APP to keep track of You know your creations, but you could also just once you set it up. Put that stuff away and just play with it with the figure and the pieces. Pieces like in your living room. What do you think Nintendo? lego opted to do something so different because this is obviously a lot more interactive than say your standard Harry Potter or star. Wars set right. Yeah, WE'LL LECCO saying. This is a four year collaboration along with some of the team at Nintendo that worked on Super Mario. Maker so was A. it was a pretty dedicated thing. Nintendo's made its own AMOEBA figures for years with a dabbled in that Nintendo has that partnership with universal for their for their theme park. There been other things, but I think for Lego Nintendo. You're right. It does make a lot of sense. It almost feels like something that could have happened already because Lego has done things that are kind of Nintendo like an antenna was done things like Lambeau that have folding cardboard that are kind of Lego like so. They feel very good together the one thing. I'm curious about is how much more the gaming can evolve what I noticed testing. This with my kids said it's very open ended. You have the instructions in Classic Lego style. They just Kinda. Let you figure out the rest in. There's not too much arching direction instruction and I would have liked a little more of that yet. Your video did feel very kind of free form. Like how did you play with it or more and more importantly? How did your kids play with it? Well, they love putting it together then we had the zoom with the head of Design Jonathan Beneath. which is this thing that Lego at? This remote zoom to basically just set up some timed a time challenge with of course we built, but you know you can kind of cheat. You know you basically just take all the coded pieces in just keep popping them over and over, and then hit the end piece, and then see what score you get and a lot of the scoring, because it's almost like a fitness tracker, you have to keep moving it and shaking. It is a little bit random. One of my kids got upset. That score wasn't as is. He thought it would be This is why I think you kind of have to just relax into it but I. I think it could be a little frustrating if you're trying to play like a board game, I feel like the APP should have some ideas Super Mario maker on on the switch has great ideas for creating design, and they have all these instructional sets, plus you could just play around or check out what other people made. This is lacking that by think intentionally, but just to let parents know that like I think it's toy. What's Nice as the pieces? All are modular in a sense, you kind of break them apart and not feel like you're deconstructing too much. There's like the square pieces that have all the parts on them. But you know it's to be kind of a thing you dabble with and I wonder how long kids are GonNa stay focused on it or they'll move onto the next thing, which is the case with all Lego like we have? We have tons of kits that have been turned into bricks lying in the corner. Well it. Is I mean. The the initial starter set really gets you beginning the end in a couple of pieces, and this is designed to be more modular I. Suppose add more pieces to it. Like how does that work? Yes, so the there are ten additional courses that Nintendo announced plus four like you could change the overalls on Mario and get extra powers. Is a cat sued in propeller suit? Those are cool like. Like agency courses take advantage of the catsuit that tried that I got to play with that much, but it was it was. It was very durable the prices range from like twenty dollars for an extra pack, two hundred dollars for the Buzzer Castle, which falls in line with Lego prices I think that we've seen for other kids that the starter pack sixty. They can add up though The question each each course has its own little special coated bricks that do extra things. Some of them are their own mini games like there's a product plant mine carts slide the basically just tilt back and forth, and try to keep the cart balanced and not hit the plans, but it's not very complicated some spin hope the character doesn't fall off, but. You Know I. Think the way the interact I would like to see a little more again. A little more guidance lego actually as a are based. Game set called hidden inside. That I've checked out. That is actually up. A little more game focused where there are actual like many games and challenges. You have to look for something that's hidden in augmented reality. You have to keep holding your phone out right right I. There are some like hidden treasure blocks that they're built into some of the sats. That's pretty interesting, but as far as I could see on the APP, you just Kinda put it together and then hey, have see what happens, so there are no a are elements to this setup right? No, okay. No deliberately meant to really focus on the bricks, and which I really appreciate and I like the fact that the Mario. Just stays connected interactive, and you don't have to stare at a phone screen I think that's great for kids I would love to have a peach character that could have the reading and other characters, so you could do multiplayer and I don't think it would hurt to have more formalized programming things than they are like my my eleven year old, who who's learning python like you know that that's he's ready to do. Block based programming with is in Lego. Boost and some of the more advanced kits. This doesn't have any of that, but I you could. Could, adapt some sort of a programming idea to this Lego just hasn't explored yet, and these are these all out now or did they do this launch after you mentioned that there are multiple sets coming, so, what's the cadence of release schedule? They all launch. August I and so this is a really I got an advance. Look in will go said. We're pre-production sats, so I think they're pretty much going to be what they are, but you know I think there

"To in the past. It's not give us fifteen bucks. You'll get a whole new world of programming instead it's keep subscribing to the HBO now Streaming Service because we just gave it a face lift and made it a whole lot better. I'm Jefferson Graham. This is talking tech. Let me fill you in Max's. Hbo Plus Movies TV series and cartoons from the Warner Brothers Library. Classic Hollywood and Foreign Films From The T. C. M. Film Library original animation and more now. Hbo Now just got a whole lot better. And for me since I was already subscribing. I have more of a reason to keep it. I like the programming selection. You may like it too if you have an apple TV or google chrome cast streaming device in the house but if you're like most people and get your streaming the a Roku or Amazon fire TV streaming player while you're out of luck for now. At and T. Which owns Warner media? Didn't make a deal with either. So it's either fork over thirty five dollars for chrome cast a hundred and fifty dollars for the Apple. Tv device or watch. Max on one of the newer Sony or Samsung. Tv's here's what you're gonNA find. Hbo IS PROMOTING. Heavily the complete collection of friends and the Big Bang theory at the top of the front. Page the Harry Potter films and others from the Warner Brothers Library including man and wonder woman Max is broken up into several hubs. This includes looney tunes cartoons. Adult swim in the cartoon network. Hbo MTC 'em some hubs are better than others. T is fully featured with classics Galore. Like the wizard of Oz gone with the wind and I really love this. The Complete Charlie Chaplin Film Collection Cartoon Network has just a handful of series like the power puff girls and dexterous laboratory. But it's missing some key titles like Johnny Bravo and courage the cowardly dog unlike the recent Disney plus launch which had hundreds of vintage animation from the bolt along with four current titles. Max has many of the best of bugs bunny porky pig and gang including a duck amuck corny concerto in gorilla my dreams but a big emission at least on the first day is the greatest looney tunes cartoon ever made. What's Opera Doc the? Hbo Hub is basically HBO now with. Yes. Every episode of Game of thrones the Sopranos Kirby enthusiasm plus more. But if you're looking for something outside of those hubs navigation is tough for instance. Max promised classics from the Hanna Barbera Library like the Flintstones and the jetsons an episode of Conan from the TBS Library

Tolkien Talk with super fan Helen

"Talked about people reading Lord of the Rings and you latched on. But somebody didn't. Why should somebody read Lord of the rings versus maybe some other fantasy? Like game of thrones or the wheel time series or Shinohara or some of those other other fantasy books. I I think. That tolkien's writing is really easy to follow. And so that's a good way to good reason to start anyway. Especially with the Hobbit I mean the hub is even better like intro book to it because it was actually written for children so it actually it. Even though the story is very rich in an amazing it was written as a good entry into the genre and same thing with Lord of the Rings. They're written in a way. That is relatable. Even if it's not really your favorite style of writing or your you know your favorite elves and dwarves and ghosts in hobbits does not your thing. It's it's an easy read to do. Like if I compare it to another series of I'm really familiar. With like game of thrones that's also written simply enough with there's so many characters there's so much going on but it's Kinda hard to follow him and you have to. I know this person you have to have charts and maps and who's related to. Who would how are they related? No my gosh. Oh yeah this is so and so's cousin and you don't need all that to read Lord of the Rings you can just enjoy the story at. It's a good story too so it's easy to follow. And I think this is a good series you re because if you do continue reading you can understand how other fantasy writers were influenced by this series as watching this happen awful. That washing my kids watch kind of what I call reverse order where they watched they read and watch Harry Potter. And then they wash Lord of the Rings Dame. Things token is stealing from from Oh my gosh you're names Puckett in my head. I'm Harry Potter author. Anyway they think that Vicky Rolling Rolling thank you they think that Tolkien. Still Rolling Sweetie. He wrote this book like in the forties. She wasn't able to live yet. She is getting influenced from him. And so I think that it's important just to have this as your baseline so that you understand where the where the inspiration references come from because almost every fancy writers got something that can be traced back to being inspired by Lord of the Rings. Oh yeah some people have always some modern authors said actually if Tokyo and try to ride that today Lord of the Rings today a problem we wouldn't get published because a lot of people view like you said it takes too long to get out of the Shire and people today kind of like a little more fast paced storyline. But I didn't find it that I thought it was very intriguing. One that's no means the world building part. I mean if you read again just doing comparisons but you know if you read the sorcerer's stone or a game of thrones which is the first book in the Song of Ice and fire theory series. There's a lot of world building that takes place in both of those because you've got to create this baseline you've got to show the people. This is what the world looks like and so when you read the fellowship of the Rings you're getting a lot of world building which for some people can feel a little tedious but it's necessary to live at groundwork. Churn some people you know the Council of L. Ron where they're talking about these these worms in the desert and going into a lot of history and stuff get a little lost and I'm like no. That was actually more intriguing for me. I was like they're talking about this big dragon. There's this other dragon named skater. And what is all this other stuff? This Ansari stuff but that's why people love the Appendices. You talked about the appendices to people. Just love that.

"I met bob and this is harry potter in the sacred text and i'll post addition welcome back to the hot seat matt thank you last time you were in conversation with vanessa joining outpost and now we get out showing her because she's away and we hear that makes me nervous i don't i don't know how i feel about i'm happy to be here let's just say that what i listen to i don't know if you were my field ad supervisor for the constant i did before harry potter and the sacred text with even glint inverness design that's right and in fact i think ultimate history would be that big win in my eyes and i suggested it to you watch direct supervision i'm pretty sure that's what happened is that wedding idea came from i'm fairly certain that is what happened well i recall speaking to you about maybe that's had already spoke about it but i remember actually even saying you need a second person or third person why even esa wall i think it's my friends wow this is a breakthrough thank you matt so this wonderful podcast i'm glad to have you back here so today i wanna talk to you about tradition tradition is a word that i used a really resent i thought really yeah i thought traditional old bad it was like all stupid excluding including people like had about like traditional something really negative and then empower because you and my teacher i feel like i really become a fan of tradition and i've actually changed what tradition means in my brain so i wanna i wanna explore that theme of tradition edition today because i think it's really important for us to think about as we do harry potter in the sacred text where we're doing very traditional greeting practices like like geo and hovered but we're doing it with a very untraditional text in harry potter and i wanna talk about the kind of ethics of tradition when can you borrow something when should you not lincoln you claim tradition what pop some tradition can you leave behind and still have it be authentic all of those kind of questions you said you'd just like tradition because it's old and badness good people and i guess i would say i remember when i spoke to you about in are supervision but i guess i would say yes old in bed and excludes people but i guess i think of tradition as a process and tradition tends to be used by people who want the real that as a blood and as if it's one thing that never changes and if you notice something different than i'm taking my tradition pitcher about the head with it so that you do not change anything right but instead we think about tradition as sort of this vast resources possibility whereby we try to envision watch meaningful change could look like well how we could be honest those who are ancestors sisters who are memories tore pass but also be open and aware of are present and what we envision future also open aware of the people who maybe are traditions have excluded that we want to welcome so instead of thinking of tradition is like a static thing which keeps people which is the way it's often use especially about people who call themselves traditionalist yes right i think we could think of tradition as sort of this field the resources i wish we could link ourselves the other human beings in different times and places and also used that to reach out the other human beings who are outside of our purview togetherness community whatever so that's the key reef raymond my brain which i was like oh i always so traditionally something static right it's something that could never change that was woulda up that was be on mike ross and it was made for different time and exactly like you're saying announcing as like oh it's axios this kind of river which is always moving and therefore tradition actually encompasses change a traditional kind of outlive unless it's changing and one of my favorite quotes i read about this recently which thomas months and the great secession twentieth century monk and and writer and he talked about the difference between tradition in that rebuff sense that we've just been saying and convention which is when we do what we've always done no parents have done what communities these have always done and convention kind of loses that fire edits hop that beating alive nece and so for example like if you do walk into a church synagogue and you see what people are doing and it just has that kind of dead feeling which frankly is largely my experience i'm like oh that's convention but when i think of the way that you stephanie other people that i really admire who was still within the lineage and you have a religious identity the way they talk about teacher engage with text for example that's very traditional even though it looks very different from what you might expect you said earlier on you know how do we know which changes are often dick yeah if if tradition is a source of change not just a static thing as oppose the convention if it's this kind of reverse used martin's analogy this river flowing how do we know what changed their authentically ones that's a really good question in a difficult one one example that i used again and again sort of in teaching in a conversation is the notion of of marriage in so one thing they weaken observe kind of historically factually is that what marriage means in human culture has not existed as a consistent kind of form of life across centuries time and place right so how do we everything that two things or or three things or any number of things count as a marriage so there's this philosopher who i really just in shock derrida he has this argument about sort of recognize ability and then allergies is of a signature so so if i signed my name it's never the same twice but it means me yes right and so there's something about the right itself has to be recognizable the sign itself has to be recognizable to those who encountered for the meeting to be kerry and so this is what we saw with marriage quality right where gay couples would show up wearing the whole tie in the boot mayor in the hall and it was like oh this is a wedding and it felt you could feel the love you could feel that sense of you know intense beauty in connection and you would expect even when it was a straight couple and the food that we saw that with interracial marriage for example and then he claimed that would say it's more of a loved in the mirror and hit him right on the ethic but this is the thing right that this relationship is recognizable as a mirror yeah starts at clueless into what is actually at the hard core of what we mean when we say marriage right and in fact my own destruction has been involved in these debates about this for many years and i've always just believe that in the end we christians would come around to marriage equality because it is so obviously recognizable as what we think marriages and even people who oppose it yeah the kind of fervor their opposition speaks to their knowing that is still recognize so obviously a marriage i have to oppose it for other reasons and so this is what i mean about sort of what is the thing that is recognizable giving us and respond to what you said before it's like when you walk into these communities the anglican church youth and it feels completely dead to you someone in that church it may feel completely alive to them right and so we think about religion as a system of meaning making then at some scholars have thought of it is analogous the language and if you think about how language works how the meetings of words change over time right like we cannot actually speak to each other unless we inherited language which is not our own i'm gonna go that's genius other hand are actually uses the language means that are words keep developing an incoming meanings right if ask a linguist and you could follow the stretching or you're listen to it a history of boeing's languished podcasts wherever you see documented the way meetings have changed over time the way meeting moves right who usage in human culture a new words were invented the famous name then at ten thousand he was exactly right but the the reason those new words work is because there's something and then it's recognizable there's something meaningful right and so we can think about and some scholars have thought about religion this way if it is a meeting making process then it also has the same sort of attachments shipments to priors which is but also openness to news which is wow that's really beautiful and i and i love that idea of religion as a meaning making system right that's what rituals about that's what having a calendar is about in which you know moments like today's the fourth of july for those of you listening in the u s and this is this is now a tradition in america that celebrates independence from can i say the greatest country in the world i will not say that we are the most to atone for but you know that there are these traditions that much that that give us a sense of like oh because i celebrate the thing that makes me this kind of person right whether that's nationality whether that's religion and that group of all sorts of different things so to what extent if we take that theme of of you know a religious tradition is is something that helps you make meaning come we look at civic celebrations like the fourth of july or in england remembrance day or queens day in holland or whatever national festivals people have do we have something like a like a specific religions i'm going to answer is there a different question and protected you ask the one that that's the greatest chicken they academics but i think something like acidic holiday like for the fourth of july what that can do for isis help us if we have this understanding of tradition that we've been talking about what they're gonna do this helpless think okay what does the fourth of july mean what do i celebrations conveyed to us about what it means and what should it me right you said you're you're country has the most to atone for i think were giving you a run for their money lately and i think that for example if you look at contemporary fourth of july celebrations they're highly sort of militaristic they celebrate freedom they celebrate life sort of the violent conquests of people's for the sake of freedom and fireworks right that's communicating something about what we say america is yeah that's right so if we have this tradition of a fourth of july celebration and we have all the resources of the history of this country and all the resources of what we think this nation is there should stand for what other highly traditional in this case celebrations could we imagine yeah what other forms of observance could you imagine which would be absolutely faithful to are american tradition but which would lift up the should actually bring other people in which would honor or people who are presently not honored by the way we commemorate today like what if the tradition on the fourth of july you hot tub strangers cross the threshold into a home run exactly right like what if what if that was the key celebration rather than sort of parade with guns we we tend to observe on the day wars especially you know the revolutionary war yeah sought by white men who owned slaves right now this is a celebration is that will really think is most honorable about are tradition right we're limiting ourselves we think all it is is militaristic marching parades were marching band music right there other things we could do so maybe this'll be my final question which is i really love that image of tradition as a resource that this is a place which all of us have inherited to some extent and that all of us have the permission to reach into and draw something out wildlife today if you look at the christian tradition to go back to what kind of religious context what is some of the resources in tradition that you.

"Just I just think that she's being held with caretaking standard because she's a woman, and like this is the right thing to do given the sport that they are chosen to play casper. Yeah. Well. The fact that they don't return to the quidditch pitch that she consuls the next practice to me says that she knows. It was a failure that she was like, no one could see each other. It was raining so hard like nothing made sense. Everyone just felt worse off towards I think I need to be more inventive. It's like if you're a. Gosh, what's that Dutch national sport ice skating like long distance ice skating? If it's if there's no ice like don't go on the water, and I feel like Angelina needs to think of what's the like skating equivalent of training for different weather conditions that quidditch games happen in those conditions. Whereas I e skating doesn't happen when lakes are swimming ball. That is correct. I stand down now. I'm gonna keep going anyway because I have. Money. And I don't think that not repeating something means that you thought it was a mistake or a failure. I think it's we've learned how hard it is. We've learned as much as we can. There's no reason for me to net. Right. Like, there's a return on investment of like. Okay. And now, I'm just exposing them to freezing cold for no reason. And I think it's actually a great leader. Who's like, okay. That was just hard enough. And now I'm going to stop. That's not an admission of failure. That's like a wisdom of balance because this is a new team, right? Rana's joined semi how to brainwave which is that the DA is actually also quidditch practice. Right. Because we have we got the whole quidditch team. They're the DA like nearly everyone. I think everyone is. And so this is totally like a team building moment. Sure that helps. Yeah. So what I'm saying is that she has innovated in leadership style. And I'm just saying that we hold women to different standards of men's comfort than we hold men too. Honky without if not a failure. Like, she's a tough, captain and good. Offic. Got on that. This week's episode of Harry Potter, and the sacred tax is brought to you by audible, I don't know about you. But I get daily reports from my phone on my cell phone, use an audible is my most used app by like a lot even more than like social media things. Oh, yeah. Because I listen for hours a day. You'll like I will listen to people only if that very well uptick, you lated edited unscripted in a novel. Yes. Recently, Michelle Obama red meat her entire memoir, which was just generous of her. I love it when it's the actual oath. That's reading because you really got a sense of the tone. They meant in that writing and like feel it basically friends, and no I missed her win. Her book was on. I was like Michelle why'd you stop reading me to bed every night. It's still coffee time. Where are you? Exactly. I'm washing the dishes, where did you go? Go to OPEL dot com slash Potter. Text Potter to five hundred five hundred that's audible dot com slash P. O T T. Or text plotter to five hundred five hundred and listen for a change. I believe it's time for spiritual practice. Ooh. We are going to start doing this practice of dates, which is Casper's favorite. We actually agreed today. I'm so sorry. I did this that that joke's not funny anymore. We should stop. So that was the last time. I joke. So parties is a four step reading practice that is based in medieval Judaism, produces an acronym for shot Ramez draft and sewed, and the idea is that, you know, a text is as diverse as an orchard, and that you can just put your hand up anywhere in an orchard and grab a piece of fruit, and it will be juicy nutritious. And we can do the same thing with the Harry Potter books. We can pull any quote from this chapter. So can somebody please give me a number between three seventy four and three ninety six. I heard three eighty one. So there are one two three four five six seven paragraphs on this page. Can you give me a number one through seven seven great? So the sentence that we will be doing is hairy was thinking himself back. You would have said that no matter what I said. That's good. Okay. So page three eighty one Harry was thinking himself back. So the first step of price is shot in shot. Twee ask ourselves. What does the intended or the explicit meaning of the text to find it? So this is yet he and runner talking after quidditch practice, and Harry is telling Ron about the visions of voldemort that he's that scar hurt and he's sort of figuring out out loud. What voldemort has been experiencing Hari was thinking himself back. He's trying to remember what it felt like previous times when he felt vulnerables presence because he's suddenly explained like full demo- is angry. And he owning new it as he said it which I thought was such an interesting moment. And he's now remembering the other times when he's he's able to sense Volta most feelings without any Russian explanation of how he knows. It's not right. Yes. I like, it's really fun. I to try okay. Step two of her days is remers and remers is one of my favorite things that we do in the podcast. So we picked a word from the sentence. It means like an allegorical, meaning a possibly metaphorical meaning, but the way that. We do it is the way that rabbis have been doing this for hundreds of years, which is that you can pick one word and track. How that word is used throughout the Harry Potter series. So if we were doing this with the Torah, and we picked the word tree, we'd be like, ooh, where all the trees in the Torah. And we would talk about all the different times that we see trees in all the different meanings that trees can have. So I need your help. I am going to say the very tall person with glasses. Yes. You I want you to pick. One of these words Harry was thinking himself back. Back. Okay. So where else does the word back come up in Harry Potter books? I'm thinking immediately of the back of quarrels head where else back to the burrow back to the borough. Yes. Ten points. Slither that time Turner we go back in time. Okay. Moore's back want one. He brings Cedric back which I still think is like the bravest best thing. He sorry. The pensive you can go back in time and other people's memories. Yeah. That's strolls. How how? Oh, they ride on the backs of vessels. I I'm sure that's great. Actually, what is think you? And beats back, right. Like, they write on Beck's of a lot of things. I also thought of go back to or. Non textual strike that from the record. That's not canon.

"So you're working on a side project. It's kind of the extension of this practice, but but instead of Harry Potter get romance novels Hambo, there'd right? Well, yeah. Instead of Harry Potter were doing romance novels and then instead of sacred reading or doing sacred writing. So it's a whole other perspective on sacred practice North Sea new huddled away lately. Working on a new trailer for that. And if I remember right, you're going to cut that into this conversation, right? Yes. The new trailer for hot and bothered which Vanessa and I are working on in very excited about we'll play now know now, no. Okay. Now, I have two theories for you. The first is about the apocalypse. I don't think it will be one big event. I think that apocalypse is happen all of the time. We all have them when someone dumps us or the depression fog comes rolling in families have them. When a young parent gets cancer loses a job societies have them when unjust laws are passed. Or when it suddenly seems as though half of a country is standing up and saying me too. I've had a few. My dad got a brain tumor when I was eight my grandparents lived at the Northridge earthquake epicenter in nineteen ninety four and a few years ago. I started living in constant contemplation of the apocalypse. The photos of hurricane Harvey Maria initiated, my spiral the latest climate change report that will be all underwater in twenty years was the most recent log on that fire. Now, here's my second theory. I think writing grow Mance novels can help us get ready for these apocalypse is in the heart of my recent spiral while hiding Germain covers and tried to distract myself from thoughts about how to put my dog down when we run out of food. I started reading romance novels to calm myself down enough to fall asleep. And then I started writing one of my own I won't tell you all the juicy details. But let's just say I have a great imagination. It involves a Jewish girl. Living on Harvard yard with a really cute dog who has to pick between two brilliant and hunky men who are both understandably completely in love with her. And it was so fun to right? And it was also healing. It was healing to stop imagining. What to do when the world ends? And instead to force myself to imagine a happy ending night after night. I would crawl into bed with my story and have to figure out how to get to a good true. Happy place through love. I had such a profoundly positive experience writing my room. It's novel that I asked ten of my friends to write their own Ivan Esa Vanessa I've been Esa. I. Let me get my big complaint about having your friends. Right. Romance novels out of the way up top none of them wrote a sex scene not one they all talked a big game. But not one followed through complaint over. But what my friends and I learned again. And again is that writing a romance novel is a radically hopeful act, you sit down to a blank page, and then you fill it with all of your thoughts in issues about love, and you have your characters confront despair. But then you write your way toward to soulmates writing off into the sunset on white stallions to pursue their lesbian piracy empire. Obviously. I was supposed to coach them through their writing process. And I didn't always have a gentle hand, I think we're to to set to boring in our understanding of what romance is I mean that sounds like a great book. That's not a romance novel. Your two main characters have to phone love. I sometimes made it a little bit about myself. This is the difference between you, and I I love a decision. Oh, I hated decision. That's what's scary about writings as soon as you put a word on the page, then it's there, and it's final and everything else that you write is built around that word. I'm way realized on some level that it wasn't really about the romance novels. It was about us. Why did you say yes to this? You're pregnant, you sure. A dog you've a life..

"Is not a show about me. This is show about Harry Potter in the sacred text. And normally during the episodes, you do a ton of work on them. But your voice is almost never on the shows. And I think a lot of people the only association they might have with us if they show up at a live show and see you there because you're on stage at the live shows, but you're actually such a big part your half of forming this show and one third of forming the show or one third of forming this show, we never really hear from you though. So what do you actually do on the show mostly we go into the studio, Vanessa casper? And I and I sit in the studio with them, and I kind of backseat drive them a little bit. I coached them. So we sit down, and we tell the opening story. And then I tell them that they have to do it again and change certain things. And then we go through the whole show and I- glare at them when they're getting off track. And I- prompt them a little bit. If they need to restate something, and we yeah, we spend time in the studio forming the show into what the eventual content is going to be we spend maybe an hour and a half two hours for each episode in the studio, and then I take all of that audio that we've recorded, and I go home, and I added that down to the thirty five minute episodes that everyone here's so that is a lot of time with the nestling casper in my headphones. You're kind of like that teacher you had in high school or college that like is a total hard ass, but is for the exact, right reasons? Yeah, I would say I'm definitely the straight man of the trio. I don't think that they're funny. Are you so tach to the term straight man, you often say you're the straight man of our relationship as well? I think because I'm like a little bit no nonsense. A lot of people make jokes around me. And I just like wait for the jokes to be over and until we can move onto serious conversation. So I think we should move onto these questions because before we started recording you put out on Twitter and Facebook, you said Depp's Oga corrupted, and and we're gonna be doing this kind of QNA type episode. And so we got a list of questions here from Facebook and Twitter, and I'm just gonna ask them to Arianna. And we'll do can this CUNY episode here. We throw an ad in there every now. And then it sounds good. Maybe have remained Jackie show up. She is here we might drag her in. Okay. So first question comes from Rebecca to Hove, it's from Facebook..

"Texts, and I wish you all the best in this project. Thanks, Bye-bye. Hi, Maxwell agree nerdy series of questions that I absolutely love. I do think it sometimes really exciting to wonder, authority intent. I think the Harry Potter books are impart so exciting, interesting because they came of age right along with the internet. And so Jake, he rolling is one of the few authors. Certainly something so popular who in the history of the world has been able to engage with her fans so explicitly. And I am very grateful that we made the decision out of sort of, you know, an innocent point of view to not engage with any of that because then we would have to engage with some of the very disappointing things she is done and said over the last couple of years, and I am grateful for the opportunity to treat these taxes sacred and not let her imperfections sully. Our experience with these books go. The thing I'd want to say is that we have John green on the show, lost seats. Season, and he says this lovely thing that has an author. He's the author of the book until its publishing date, and then the book is no longer his. Then the story is the rita's because whatever the reader brings to the text is going to shape the tax write like, right is we'll tell stories of people coming up to them saying my God, I love what you did with this character and the oath is like, I didn't do that with the cockpit that's literally not on the page, but as a Rideau, we create these stories from the text, and I think we actually limit what the text can be when we make it about the author's intent, and it's so much more interesting to think about what it means to me what it means to you and then to have a conversation about it, like it's just much more creative because there's only one right on Seref with sticking to a Royal intent besides Jacob rolling has never liked to single tweet that's been tagged with her and us. So she's obviously a monster. I'm vited her up to t when I was an end Brad, she never responded. She didn't even say now she just didn't respond. Oh, maybe how people just go back to my people and we couldn't fit it in because of my busy schedule. It's time for us to offer a blessing and we both want to bless the same person this week because there's like a right and wrong answer the right answers. The want to bus MRs Fagin the wrong answer is that you want to bless anybody else. So why don't you give us your blessing? So we talked about this a little bit, but I wanna bless her for not making fun to hang out at her place. I just think that this is like a beautiful selfless move. Nobody wants to be the not fun person to a child. Nobody wants to like not be themselves in their own home. But MRs fig knows that if Harry enjoyed himself at all, he wouldn't be allowed to come over. And so she makes this like very tactical responsible grownup decision. I just think that this is the essence of maturity is knowing what the right thing to do is in like checking all of your desires in. In order to do what truly the.

"So casper we are about to start reading Harry Potter book five. The order of the Phoenix the Phoenix is on a movie reference is voice. I'm not yet discovered who it belongs to maybe. He it's creature, I dunno. Okay. Fair enough. So order of the Phoenix, I'm so excited for something that I want to ask you what you're excited about, but I just wanna come out the gate and say it. I do want to say it at the same time. A lot of good. I was gonna say Percy Weasley second-year outside of school. Obviously, no Luna is absolutely front and center of our excitement. The book, five Luna, just changes the whole dynamic of the friendship suckle. There's something odd about her in the same way that the something old about hurry that no one else get his shed with him and it's so beautiful to see that. So I've known you now for five years. The best thing that you have said in our five years is that you put it out that Luna is the priestess of that resistance will see her in book seven tending to people, and we just see it right out of the gate in book five when she's like talking to Harry about death, talking about seeing things that aren't there. I just love the idea of Luna is like the minister of this series. I am just so excited to spend time with her. Yeah, I think it's so interesting to look at her as a ritual designer and to look at the questions that she asks as meaning making questions, right? The ques-. She asked not functional and relational, like Ron, nor are they inquisitive and intellectual like how many or even moral like hominy there at this next level, which often is so far above or different from the rest of the compensation that she is. We it, she's counter cultural. She comes in with belief systems that certainly sometimes beyond kind of the scientific Rome. But nothing is strange to her like she is comfortable in the strange so that anything that happens, that's unusual to hover is normal. That's such a gift because when moments like death or even ecstasy, like that's why Luna's most comfortable, nothing fazes her because she lives in this different realm of human experience and just so excited to spend time with her. What are you particularly excited about with buck five, you book five is often the book that I think about is the most challenging book to me. Harry is in his screaming, angry, hurry phase, carry Harry, and which you know what would be interesting to. Think about looking as sacred text weather text, physically on the page is different. What does it mean as a sacred text when they are rolling capitals?.

"Crucial. I don't. We talk about bullying. Justice. The invisible margin of the stories. But after the real power, why I think that just about covers. Arianna IVA. Very busy complaint about a friend. My friend had like this beautiful destination wedding, and because she felt as though she was asking all of us to buy plane tickets and hotel rooms, she was very insistent that nobody give her a wedding gift, but I love her very much and I want to celebrate this big milestone in her life and she didn't have a registry, and it just would have been so much easier if she just created a registry. Unsold LA. You're right. That's a very complaint. Zola's the wedding company that will do anything for love from engagement to wedding and decorating your first home Zola's. So guests consumer flea shop and get all the details. They need in one place Zola's basically Rosie from the Jetson and you don't have to buy wedding things. I bought myself a beautiful bench for my bedroom. Zola and at arrive quickly and continues to be one of my favorite things that I own to create your free wedding website at Sola go to Zola dot com. Slash Harry Potter. That's z. o. l. a. dot com. Slash Harry Potter to create your free wedding website. Maybe the reason that I liked Zola so much is because it looks so much like Zoltan. Canessa it's time for the long view. This is the time when we think about our title character. Harry Potter on his great adventure through the seven books because so often we'll talk about a bunch of stuff that is adjacent to hurry, but kind of lose sight of his arc of narrative. So let's think about what happens to hurry. He is prepared, you know, for an exciting. Yeah. He goes to a new experience at the quidditch world companies little sad that there won't be any quidditch that year at school, but he's excited to get behind cetera as the school champions or whoever's going, it's going to be and through no fault of his own is thrust into the limelight. Once again, how do we see Harry change? What are the stages that we see him go through casper I love taking this long hair because in season when our thesis of Harry in book one is that book is sort of his introduction to the wizard ING world. Doesn't that feel like an age ago? Not not in time. But just in who Harry walls just up, I experiencing and alley the innocence that he has a, it's a world away from where we are now. So much has happened since then book to we really see him get comfortable in Hogwarts. It becomes his home is what we realized. And then in book three, it's the first time that Harry gets a sense of a family receive in lupin and understanding history of his parents that it's the first time that he can really envision himself going home somewhere from Hogwarts. Let's not the dirt sleaze. He's able to envision himself soon book for, I'm wondering if we've gone from, you know, Hogwarts to home at Hogwarts to a sense of family. I think that in book four is where he starts to see himself as a political figure as a figure who is going to have a role in sort of his nation's history that has been established for us in book one, chapter one, all over England. People are. Their cups to the boy who lived. And I think that this book is the first time Harry starting to understand what that meant. What do you think? I think like disagree with finis. I think that's still too early. I think thoughts book five for me because what I really noticed about how our Ian this book is if book three was about him, finding belonging and about family connection that book fuller is about him individualizing in in a very healthy way. In some sense, he's discovering his sexuality a little bit right? Like he's excited to date show and it doesn't happen despair boulevard, but I still feel like he doesn't have the political agency yet to really make his own moves. I feel like he's still to some extent opponent other people's games. So then what do think the like if you had to say this is the year, right? What is the story? We wanna tell about Harry's fourth year, right? The thing that really stands out for me that kind of might be defining the Harry is that he has chosen something in this book and there's many choices we can talk about. But the one that I'm really thinking about is in the second tossed when he stays on the water maze, finished rescuing Ron, he sees cho- rescued. He sees hominy rescued and he's waiting and waiting until Gabrielle is going to be rescued and she isn't. And then he takes her up with

"The awesome honor of being on the front end of leading the creative on all of the harry potter entertainment for the whizzing father and it should also one of the coolest gigs ever so i'm really interested in here these stories about people who work away from the mailrooms become the you know whatever executive at company cat is one thing to show a capacity for hard work when you're greeting people at the entrance to an attraction but out of you then look around you when you're doing that job and say okay here's how i get to this other place how do you pursue the training and the education necessary to actually do that while ironic thing about it a lot of people that i get to work with people that along the ways everybody's entrance into the skilled with very different there isn't one defined path for me it well it really started with becoming a performer in the parks i really wanted to be an actor in my twenties i was a brother and i was the grinch pretty much wow pretty much every every lecture that wasn't stunt related because i i'm not a stunt man i'm not that coordinated unfortunately but i really became passionate about being on the stage and also in the process of these shows going up i i was kind of a sponge really vang attention to what i was possible for but also what was kinda happening around me watching the show directors that time direct up former watching them interact with the technicians talking with technicians on how they were producing the shows and then really just getting to know how they were constructed just let me start talking to people about how these things kind kind of warm and then i started writing my own treatments and anybody that was window to read it or listen to me do a pitch i would get in front of i was able to get the ear of a couple of show directors and show them and some of my writing and show them some drawings and some layouts rooms that i've done and and it really started small and it just ruined ruined and then there was a meeting about the first initial stage of winning world hockey and with a whole new goal that kind of opened up for me because i had a rose my hand said hey i've read those books i know the movies that i write a couple of concepts and they said yes that's amazing so you've mentioned your passion for performing your passion for actually writing and and conceptualizing story executions and your passion for harry potter so regarding the entertainment elements that you have been able to conceive an execute for the wizard world we're really curious to hear a little bit about how you've found that sweet spot that balance between the existing cannon the ip that is there to call upon and what seems like a lot of runway to really try to create something new that people who are visiting the park is going to be totally fresh for them that they haven't seen before for example we get a taste of sella seen in the books but that's mostly you know through the lens of mrs weasley sandham it's very contained experience and then here you get to create the entire thing you get to actually compose musical act so how much of what you're doing here for the wizard world entertainment elements is about honoring the spirit of the text and what we get of those elements in the tax and how much of it is about being able to just craft something entirely new and you're absolutely right in saying there are two sides coin those two buckets need to be filled equally something like hawks meat when that was being created it was the first time warner brothers and frankly the blair partnership the first time a lot of these things were existing in the park sense it's never been done before right so as we got a sense of what the hawks environments we're gonna pee what the ride attraction storyline was going to be it really was us froing ideas at warner brothers and really getting a sense of what was there i remember the first couple of news is really trying to get a gauge of what did they think in very heads an entertainment idea might be for us it was more about educating them on what.

"Yes so one of the things that i did this year because it it's been such an intense year for i think a lot of folks that are working with vulnerable communities is i started rereading the harry potter series name i think marjorie for hole and i spent several months just really immersed in in the books and then i watched the movies after that as well and it was this way of almost giving myself a layer of distance from some of the issues that were happening and giving myself kind of a as a space of imagination and creativity where i could think about these issues but in a safer way and in a way that felt more kind of like i can actually access and i can think about this in a way that is hopeful because i know what happens in the end and so one of the reasons why book for is my favorite book is because it starts to introduce these more mature themes are rounds fear and around the other her and i think that if you look i characters like the house elves as you mentioned in a previous episode and you really start to see how it is that people are understood through bias you know and and how it is that you know our perceptions of people that are different from ourselves really sways the way that we treat them and how that can often be really harm right i mean that's one of the reasons why appreciate but for as well as that we were really start to get confronted by the reality of the danger in the world and the multiple layers of systems of oppression and frankly the real threat that people are the it seems to speak more truthfully about the world the wherein right now especially now the targeted nature and the the language of hate and other ring that we see as common discourse now in a in our culture is so similar to the kind of mud blood mogul narrative in the books that the parallels of so frightening and as you say sometimes.
