Some of the latest comments coming from Nikki Haley, the former U. N ambassador for former president Trump Please. I'm calling big corporations. The new liberal mob, former President Trump says We should boycott all these woke cos as he called it because they don't want voter I d and free and fair elections. Some of these companies, specifically, many based in Georgia are responding to that new rotor law there that does require types of different idea for mail in ballots. Celso Limit the number of places we could have Ah, drop off ballot box, but it has codified them an election law for the first time, So it's a mixed bag in this law, depending how you look at it.

So i grew up in well i would say performing. I was a singer and try acting and all these different things and really at a young age i realized the importance of selling yourself really to be honest and in two thousand ten. I knew that i had an interest in helping. People might interest shifted from showbiz to being more around like health and wellness and habit changed and things like that and so i started in the industry in two thousand ten and what i realized. Got my bachelor's degree in entrepreneurship. And what i realized was i wanted to combine my two passions. One was business and marketing and sales mecca. Thing putting yourself out there and then my other passion was really the poaching like transformational coaching. And so i worked at a couple startups in business about marketing to get more experience and then i realized i wanted to do it on my own so i started. Seeing and offering strategies for coaches consultants people like that on how to market themselves how to put themselves out there and and then over the last three years. I've started also doing services for entrepreneurs who want to outsource their marketing themselves. So it's been a real long journey. But i feel like i'm finally you know doing exactly what i meant what i meant to be doing and it's been exciting process.

You Asked For Shots, Tuna, Metal, and Money
"High planet money. This is haley calling from boston. I went to my local whole foods. Recently and splurged on what i thought was sustainably caught tuna and then i see when i get home in tiny print that it is wild caught in the usa. Great but it's packed in thailand. And i started thinking about all the miles that might tuna had traveled to get to me and my whole foods in boston and my question is. Is it worth buying this. Supposedly sustainably caught tuna even though it has travelled. Who knows how far around the globe to get to me. What is the environmental impact of this tuna. Yes that question means that. It is time once again to answer questions from our listeners. Hello and welcome to planet money. I'm jacob goldstein. First question of the day comes from haley. It's about tuna a delicious fish and emma. Peasley you're here to answer this question. Hello yes so. I talked to fish economist to get to the bottom of this one. I'm chris anderson. I'm a professor fishery economics in school of aquatic and fishery sciences at the university of washington. So the first thing chris says is that it is cheaper to pack the tuna in land then in the us and it's worth mentioning here that there have been labor issues at tie fish packing plants in the past. Also chris says it just doesn't cost as much as you'd think to ship things across the ocean and back ocean shipping is really cheap really cheap and it's really cheap because the boats that do it are really efficient because they move so much

While Some Spring Breakers Swarm Beaches, Many Stay Home, Dreaming Of Summer Travel
"Of year that many of us pack our suitcases for a spring break trip, But things this year are still far from normal. There are crowds on beaches in Fort Lauderdale on a few other places, but overall travel numbers are still down. As NPR's David Schaper reports, Many are getting the summer travel bug. For many college students Spring break used to mean earning a couple of extra bees as it beaches and beer. But this year, many colleges and universities are canceling the annual week off and one that isn't the University of California. Davis is paying students 75 bucks to stay home or on campus. Many family trips to resorts and theme parks are also being put on hold as a new survey on behalf of the reeling travel industry shows disappointingly only 12% of respondents said they're planning travel for spring break. Roger Dow heads the U. S Travel Association, which commissioned the poll. What is a little more concerning to May is just last week. That was 16%. So it's down from last week. When we were thinking everything was starting to go in the right direction, Tao says. Recent bad news about new Corona virus variants appears to be cooling. A mini industry warm up is more people have been traveling. The T S A says the number of people passing through airport security checkpoints tops one million more often than not these days, but that's still less than half of pre pandemic levels. Hotel occupancy rates are also creeping back up. But the travel industry continues to take a beating now, says nearly 40% of all U. S jobs lost due to the pandemic are in leisure and hospitality. U. S economy just can't recover unless the travel industry is healthy and recovery and travel won't fully recover until the pandemic is under control. What many Americans appear to feel that day is coming. And their online travel searches show they're itching to hit the road. What we're beginning to see in the beginning of 2021 is a recovery from the deepest part of that depression and demand. Haley Berg is an economist with the airfare and hotel price tracking APP Hopper and she says searches for flights are up substantially across the board. Demand for domestic travel since January is up, 58%. International travel is up about 20% and those numbers are growing faster and faster each week, Berg says. TRAVEL SEARCH activity surges in sync with new cycles, For example, when President Biden last week promised enough vaccines for every American adult by the end of May Travel searches skyrocketed. We're fully anticipating a big surge in demand late spring and through summer, there is clear pencil demand for travel. Audrey Hendley heads American Express Travel, which released a report this week on global consumer travel sentiment. And she says many people are not just searching. They're ready to book even if they knew they have to cancel their trip in the future, And we're calling that shift. That book now figure it out later mentality. That's the result of airlines and hotels, offering more flexible changin cancelation policies as it's still unclear when some countries may reopen their borders and lift travel restrictions. And even though more people are getting vaccinated every day, the CDC still urges Americans not to take any nonessential trips. But even with so much uncertainty about the future of travel, Hendley says, many people find being bitten by the travel bog and planning. A vacation is good for the pandemic weary soul. David

I feel like it kind of makes it normal, like in society. Not there, even though it's not and the looser standards in Miami Beach coming as health officials worry that recent declines in Corona virus cases have Platt toad and that it's more important than ever now to keep covert 19 restrictions in place.

"Haley, who was a critic of Trump while he ran for president in 2016 became a supporter while serving isn't in his administration and is widely expected to be positioning herself for presidential run in 2024. So people like Nikki Haley just flip a coin. They go with the wind. They twist in the wind. One day one day there with you, then the next day, they stab you in the back. Mitt Romney is no different. Remember Mitt Romney story? Mitt Romney desperately wanted, apparently to be in the Trump administration. At least that's my take. Who else would get on a plane? Flying to New York. Have dinner with Donald Trump and Trump Tower. Remember that picture? We're Romney looked like the deer in the headlights. And was apparently angling for a position within the Trump administration. How Hayley Williams To Do List Became Her Album Title
"Paramore's hayley williams just unleashed her second. Solo album called flowers for vases. This consoles which like her lyrics is quite poetic. Haley tells american songwriter last fall. She realized it was time to do a deep cleaning emotionally and quite literally so she tied up her place and as she did so she threw away some dead flowers which she loves leaving her bases empty as she was headed out to the grocery store at the bottom of her shopping list below oat milk and granola. She jotted down flowers for vases much later as she was sorting through a stack of paper. She saw those words shutting out the magazine. It had this way to it. It signified a time to put new life in these vessels and carry that forward instead of carrying around these little skeletons of flowers and thus an album title was born flowers for vases. this consoles is out. now

Remembering Chick Corea, Jazz Pianist Who Expanded the Possibilities of the Genre
"Wanna take a moment to reflect on the life of a legendary figure in jazz. Chick corea was keyboardist composer bandleader whose work touched on many genres from classical latin jazz. He died earlier this week. From a rare form of cancer. He was seventy nine bassist christian. Mcbride collaborated with korea for more than two decades. He's also the host of npr's jazz night in america. He joins us now and christian. Welcome i know so. Many people in the music world are so sad today. How are you doing I feel like the rest of them. You know we're we're all sat together. Still in shock still pretty numb from this news because most of us had no idea that he was ill to korea was so well known for collaborating with other artists. You included one of his. Early works was on miles davis's jazz fusion album bitches. Listlessness that kristen. Can you talk about chick. Corea the collaborator. what was he lack. Chick corea the collaborator. One thing about chickens at He was the musician's musician in that. He was always open to ideas suggestions. He was one of the most celebrated and prolific composers and any style of music so a lot of his music was already thoroughly constructive. But the times. I worked with him. He was always open to making a part more specific to a particular player. And you know he was now his own music playing with other people in their groups. Eagles is always the ultimate side. Man look the musician's musician so for you personally. What did it feel like when you were up there playing with them. It felt from me the way it felt for the listener watching chick play in. Because even though i had a chance to work with them very closely for so long i never stopped being fan so i never took him for granted. You know. I got to play with chick quite a bit. But every single gig i would look over and be like man. That's that's chick corea. So i never stopped being a fan. Well as. I'm sure you know every thanksgiving. Npr's all things considered talks with musicians about artists that they're thankful for and in twenty nineteen. The rapper look haley. Forty seven thanked chick korea. And then here. He is now responding to her. It's deeply satisfying really. And it's a testament to all of us as artists able to connect like that able to connect on on a wavelength of creativity. I'm sure it's nice to hear his voice there for you but why do you think is music did resonate with so many different people with different artist. Because he had no agenda he he wrote music strictly from the joy of creating and i actually find that to be somewhat. I don't wanna see rare but it's unusual when you meet someone who writes music simply because they love writing in playing and performing and touching people that that was his objective you know. He's i want people to feel this music. He really wanted his music to be enjoyed by everyone. Bassist christian mcbride hosted. Npr's jazz night in america remembering the legendary chick corea. Who died this week at seventy nine christian. Thank you for your time. And i'm sorry that you've lost your front. Thank you
Nikki Haley criticizes Trump and says he has no future in the GOP
"So called trumpism, the partisan divide in Washington and across the nation driving the expected outcome of this impeachment trial. Now 2020 contenders are making their voices heard. ABC is Jonathan Karl tells us what a GOP heavy hitter just said. Nikki Haley is not only a former top official in the Trump administration, somebody who has been very close to Donald Trump rarely criticized him, is considered a leading contender for the Republican presidential nomination, she said in an interview, just published. In politico, she said. Trump let us down. He went down a path we shouldn't have, and we shouldn't have followed him. That's a decisive break Donald Trump from somebody who was considered quite close to Donald Trump. That is significant, but it doesn't mean he will be in peach or convicted. I should say they need 17 Senate Republicans to go along with all 50 Democrats, and right now, the dims Are not ruling out, invoking the 14th amendment to keep former President Trump from ever holding office again. Now, the 14th amendment can keep people who have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the United States from holding office. It was a measure originally aimed at former confederates after the Civil war. Center is also something that's being talked about in democratic circles. As we heard from Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey. Let's go to the current administration,
Biden administration to "re-engage" with U.N. Human Rights Council
"And I'm very Louise Kelly. The Biden administration is taking a new approach to the United Nations, so it wants to make sure it has a seat at the table at U. N agencies that the Trump administration left that includes the Human Rights Council in Geneva as NPR's Michele Kelemen reports. The Trump Administration denounced the Human Rights Council as a quote cess pool of political bias. The Biden administration says the 2018 decision to pull out left a vacuum often filled by authoritarian countries. The diplomat representing the U. S in Geneva now Marcus are announced today that the U. S. Is rejoining first as an observer. We know that this body has the potential to be an important forum for those fighting teary and injustice around the world. Being president of the table. We seek to ensure it can live up to that potential. There are many human rights crises that could be discussed there. A military coup in Myanmar a crackdown on protesters in Belarus and Russia. Then there's Iran. The repression is at an all time high for the past 15 16 years I have covered it that Tutti Guy Amy, who runs the New York based Center for Human Rights in Iran, he says the U. S absence from the council was felt back in 2019 when there was a deadly crackdown on protesters in Iran. That was something that the Human Rights Council if it had its center of gravity should have immediately moved to an emergency session for it. It did not happen. The Trump administration blasted Iran for the violence, but Gammy says it would have been more effective if it had done so with others on the Human Rights Council. Trump's former U. N. Ambassador Nikki Haley accuses the council of covering for dictators and being biased against Israel, she says it's sad to see the Biden administration give it legitimacy. Eileen Donahoe has a different perspective. She was Obama's ambassador there and said U S leadership made a difference. We got a special rapid tour focus specifically on Iran. There was a commission of inquiry on North Korea. We got multiple special sessions on Syria, which meant that the focus on Israel decreased dramatically without the U. S. There, she said Via Skype, China has upped its game. Avoiding scrutiny of its crackdown in Hong Kong and with the U. S. Calls a genocide against Muslim
US moves to rejoin UN rights council.
"The biden administration is set to announce this week that it will re engage with the much-maligned un human rights council that former president. Donald trump withdrew from almost three years ago. Us officials said yesterday the decision reverses. Another trump era move away from multilateral organizations and agreements secretary of state anthony blinken and a senior s diplomat in geneva will announced today that washington will return to the geneva based body as an observer with an eye toward seeking election as a full member. The decision is likely to draw criticism from conservative lawmakers and many in the pro israel community trump pulled out of the world body's main human rights agency in twenty thousand eighteen due to its disproportionate. Focus on israel which is received by far the largest number of critical council resolutions against any country as well as the number of authoritarian countries among its members and because it failed to meet an extensive list of reforms demanded by the then. A Conversation With Tricia Caiati And Kate Shannon
"And so i thinking about it. Reached out to some other after's and like high pastor communities are absolutely amazing and i'm so thankful for the music therapy podcast community. They're awesome there is a facebook group called music therapy podcasts community. Podcasters music podcasters. Yeah if you go there you learn about like everyone has like updated podcasts. That are happening in everything too. So it's definitely a good group to join on. But so tricia and i were like okay. Let's see if we can make us idea happen. Let's see if we can figure out a way that people can earn c. n. t. Ease for listening to podcasts. And we figured it out which feels crazy it's happening and it's real it's real life so That's how mvp seeing this kind of born has a yeah true. Do you feel ready to diamond. Tristesse nagel into Yeah i think so. Go ahead start skill. I mean as good as we're gonna get we'll see we'll see how things happen. We'll see how the cookie crumbles. I like her like to improv. So the first thing we want to talk about is really just the basics of music. Therapy podcasts collective is Tricia and i both being podcasters not only wanted to find a way for listeners. To be able to earn credits by listening to podcasts. But we also wanted to find a way for podcasters to feel more supported. Have some sustainability with podcasting If you're a podcast or you know that it takes a lot of time effort money. It takes a lot to keep it going every week. But i think that's part of what we love about. It is that we're putting out free educational content for people and it's it should be free. We want people to access all of this stuff and we wanna be able to continue doing that. And not burn out Find a way to make it sustainable. So we really had this to kind of two different pronged approach to the music therapy. Podcast collective which you'll hear us refer to as mt p. c. Which i just think it's hilarious but so are focused. I was really like okay. Let's figure out how we can make this happen. How do we put together. bundles of podcasts. And all these different things so that it's accessible so that it's sustainable and so that it's quality which those are big parts of our mission and we'll talk a little bit more about those so But our biggest thing was just trying to figure out. What does this look like. There's not many other people that have done this in even other areas other therapies and stuff so we had to kind of create a model and go with it but art of all of. This is the super open feedback. We want us to be what the community wants it to be So if newer if he listened to this if you get ideas if you like it if you don't like your feedback let us know all about it and we really wanna make it something that is accessible to everybody in. That really works for working therapists. So that's really kind of music. Therapy podcast collective in a nutshell But tristesse going to go a little bit more into those three kind of core parts of our mission. The accessibility sustainability and quality so tricia. You can take it away. actually. I want to add to your last point. I so as far as we know there aren't a ton of people doing this continuing ed thing through podcasts. In like many fields. So kate nyah. Figured out like we said we have. We have approved credits. Ready but we're not. We don't have all the answers. Were only two people and again. We want your feedback because as a as a community we can make it so much better like so much more. They're still many different ways. We could make this happen Thanks haley 'cause like podcasting is just so versatile. And i think that having like been having a podcast for a couple years and like seeing other people's podcasts pop up it's amazing inspiring to see everyone's different take on podcasting in the music therapy community Yeah and i just love that. So silicate said Accessibility is a big factor for us. you can listen to podcasts in the car if we ever get to a place where you're commuting again or if you're one of those people who has been commuting throughout this whole year thank you for your service so you can listen to podcast. Anyone has access to them. They're out there for free. Were putting out this content all the time so yes the core part of the credits of the opportunity. Cmt opportunities is out there. It's accessible you. Get it the other thing about accessibility and a big part of why we're doing this. Is we want to make the music therapy. Profession a more accessible profession and so that's going into our mission to funds donate and create scholarships for music therapy students and interns. Were really excited about that. and yeah i that was one of those things when we first talked about this idea. I think that's just something i've always wanted to do. I wasn't sure how to make it happen. How can i set up a scholarship. How can i. Donate to existing scholarships. And i'm really grateful that and the other people we talked to were like that's awesome. Let's do it. Here's an avenue to get there
"haley" Discussed on When I'm High
"I would explore a little bit further. That's very cool. Let's see so I'm just looking at my last few questions. You think that cannabis has affected your sober life so you know taking the feeling of being high and using that to your or something when you are sober like when you're at work or something when you're not high. Yeah i think so. I love that one. I smoke time feels faster. I guess like doing things. You look at the clock somehow. It's been like a half hour already even though it feels like it's been like forty six seconds And i think part of that is just. Because when i smoke or when i'm high like i guess i'm not so invested in the time like i'm just not looking as often so yeah for sure like today i scan. I'm a fucking cashier in real life. It's so lame but ice scanned like for five hours straight today. It's christmas time. It's really fun. Everybody's buying all this like glittery shit and i did the same thing that i when i'm at high doing non or when i'm at home hi doing nonsense. I just didn't look at the clock. And before i knew it was like a fucking half hour past may shift i was like i gotta go but yeah definitely definitely learning to kind of. I guess getting high kind of taught me to just be in the moment. Like don't if you look at the clock every fucking five seconds. of course it's going to feel like a long day. Yeah you're you're you're just going to be focused on that and not actually focused on what you're doing. Yeah yeah and you're gonna be miserable. Yeah if you if when you do focus on the thing that you're doing then the time is just going to go by that much quicker and you're going to appreciate it that much better Less complaining yes. I could use a little that probably. So how do you. What do you think your future with cannabis will be like. Yeah so it's really fucking awesome having jake in my life. I'm super proud of like what he's building over at his job. I do everything. I can to kind of support him like fucking bag lunches everyday and shit like being his cheerleader. For every decision he makes in growing that business that he's a part of so definitely. I do consider jake. And how good. He's doing in the changes that he's making in the cannabis community here. I do consider that. Like i'm almost a part of it. You know what. I mean so. I am looking forward to their opening a new store. I'm looking forward to watching that happen. I'm looking forward to Going to the grand opening all that stuff. So i'm very excited about that Beyond that i mean. I'm just going to continue to smoke. Really if i'm bored or medicinally. If i feel like i need it or maybe just for reason just whenever an f. i ever feel like not doing it. I'm gonna stop doing it because that's how pot works like you can just do that. Sort of thing. Yeah exactly. I mean you're you're still young. You haven't been doing this as long as a lot of other people have. Who are a lot older than you. And you know who knows what what where life will take you. and how. your body's going to react to cannabis. I mean i've talked to a bunch of people who are like yeah. There was a time when it didn't. It didn't work so good and then i tried it and it was great and then finally. Just what do you wanna say to cannabis. I just wanna say thank you for being a friend like the golden girls song. I mean it. I mean there is nothing. My life has not been easy. It's been a fight every single day and it's almost like that. Little green leaf is like the fucking prize for sticking it out so just makes it easier everyday to deal with everything. And as i'm getting stronger which i feel like is hugely in part due to cannabis Yeah i'm thankful for it every single day that's awesome. It's funny that you mention that song. We were Listening to the radio recently. And it was just like a mix of different songs some sixties and seventies whatever and then. That song came on the radio. I i didn't even realize it was an actual song. I thought it was just the theme music and we were like what is this. Is this like a different version. And it was like no this is the actual song. It's just longer. Oh i guess i never thought about it existing outside of the building right. It's like the friends theme. Music like yeah. It was just a song that they took for the show. While well thank you very much for being a part of this This was i. I like not really knowing a lot about a person going into these. That's kind of don't use our staff. He loved he would always be the dad that was like videoing the whole thing and then would like show it back to me later and and say what he likes about it. What was so cool. And yeah he and then he plays softball now like with his friends and even that he's so competitive and but maybe i get it from him. I you know what your dad. And i were talking when we talked about having you on the show i did not realize your dad was so much younger than me. I looked at him as peer all that time. And and we're like seventeen years difference. Your dad is like seventy. Yeah you you know who knows what i was doing at seventeen when he was born. Who knows what kind of hell raising i was in into and the year that he was born the i had no idea. We had that kind of different. He's he's fifty four. I'm seventy one. "It was so high like you're so nervous and so anxious and everything that when you go to xfinity race that you know sadly only has half a proud. It doesn't you're you're not as hype internally so you can focus more on what's going on so when you go to the big races and do these bigger things. And then he come back down to a lower series and there's not much pressure You can just focus so much more. I think looking back on it. I actually said it somewhere. You know I think it was the race after the Las Vegas like I was just so more calm after doing the five hundred after doing the whole cups feed weeks after winning a cup race. Any goat on spending cars. Is You know it's just kind of easier to do that. There's not as much pressure on yourself. You know you can do it so just going up and running races just helps you internally with confidence and all right so we're a few weeks now without racing and we kinda were talking about it before we started rolling here of just you know. I think you and I are both in agreement. We're both board right. It feels like it's been forever since we've been to the racetrack. What have you been doing with your free time? Now how are you keeping yourself occupied my house for every day since we got back from Atlanta? I've maybe gone out a total of five times. I bought a new house in January. So I've been getting it closer but the problem is is I'm GonNa buy stuff on Amazon to fill the house because empty but you can't do Amazon you can still order but it's going to be forever to get it so there's plenty of I guess. Yeah Oh I saw you. Yeah I was GonNa say I saw you. Were doing some I racing. Is that something that you've always been interested in or something that you've just picked up recently with your free time no I? I think I've been an Irish member for nine years so I've kind of got I have my moments like I'll play hard for six months and then won't touch it for three months but obviously now we don't have anything to do so I got a group of guys that we all stay up to about four. Am every night and we play in tile rex included in that and a bunch of dirt. Buddies are included in that. So we've been having fun. There's literally nothing new Kris told me. I'm not allowed to do this job. So here we are. You had tweeted the other day that if there's one thing you've learned about erasing is that it's very very realistic right to to realistic. But I I would like to say I'm better at it but like I just can't sit there and do it for five or six hours practicing like then guys. I'm racing against. I'm sure all all day today. They've been on session practicing and practicing and I'm like Bro. All My hop in twenty minutes with four and just see what I got. I mean that's why they're better than me right. But I'm not like that kind of guy like I'm GonNa go mowed the lawn type. Geyer reorganize my garage seven times. Wash my car or or play. My Dog Dome Mountain Bike Nursing's like that like I just can't sit on computer for hours at a time and just like run laps like this is not me but well where do you fall on this whole east sports. Ira Sing thing in general. Obviously it's something that NASCAR had already been putting their promotion behind before we went on hiatus but now it's Kinda really obviously ramped up During this break we're now we're running races and we've got cup drivers and you know some extent drivers and truck drivers are able to jump in. Where do you fall on the spectrum of this whole East sports phenomenon and kind of what it can do for NASCAR and its fans? I've never paid attention to I've not once I couldn't even tell you anything about it to be honest with you again like that. Just doesn't spark my personal interests. I've never been like a Gamer. I know like Anthony Alfredo. I've gone to begin buddies with him because we're teammates now and he'll sit there twitch whatever for hours playing who knows what and I'm just like over here washing my car so I don't know like I said I think it's great. You can bridge. The gap between Gamer gaming and racing simulating and racing. Don't hurt feelings. But it was fun I enjoyed. I mean though like I when I hop on I racing. You'll very rarely find me in xfinity or cup car like it is always like miatas at Charlotte rover a- Durbar somewhere like it. Just I never liked do the NASCAR style which is fine. But I don't hate it but I feel like it's one of those things where I do the NASCAR stuff so often. That is kind of like a break when I get to do it. You know it's almost like me going running dirt car you know like I run thirty three extremely races now. It can go wrong modified for speech type situation so I. I don't know it's your chance to try something different. Try something that you're I don't know yeah you can do anything took A. We took the wheel and modified to a dirt. Track the other day and we're like what are we doing here you know like what is the point. You know it's fun. Yeah all right. Let me end it with this question. I've been intrigued as we've been sitting here talking for those who are going to listen. We're doing this through skype so if just allows me I might take a screen. Shot here to tell people kind of what? I'm going to point out here in a second. So He's been sitting here. I've been intrigued. Tell me about the helmets that you have behind you. And if there's any meaning to saving those helmets I think those are all wrong by two thousand seventeen truck season so the top one right here this one. It has like an alien which I have a whole alien situation like I'm obsessed with them. I am one hundred percent guaranteed saw fellow. So it's like Kinda WanNa my daddy and then the other one on one. The Truck Mosque Race on in the my Lai helmet at nine. There's really no certain meaning to any of them. Except the alien was burgled. But there's a dirt home down here it literally. I always been the type of guy. I don't like ended helmets. I'm Amana simplicity. Like I would run a white helmet if the sponsors allow me to like any day of the week and actually twenty eighteen when one all the truck races like majority of them were in non-payment helmets in Russia's as actually the same way but this is my dirt helmet and I went out and got some food at speed weeks one year in my dirt. Grucci duct tape piece on here and it says it says the main band because they always make me. That can't make a show out of the race and always have to transfer and through the beaming which I normally will. But so they they nickname media beaming band around dirt car style. Because I guess I'm washed up dirt guy but I think that's probably one of my favorite ones just because I didn't even notice it like I put the helmet on like went out there probably for the main and then took it all this like. I don't even know his on there so it just fun stuff like that makes raising. Oh my goodness the skype the photos do not come out very well so I just grabbed my cellphone. Grab some good. Yeah so we can show people what we were talking about so all right Justin. I appreciate the time. This has been a lot of fun. Hopefully we can find more things to keep ourselves occupied over however long this hiatus is going to be so. I appreciate it. Thank you thank you for sure. Back here to wrap it up sewed up. "We continue this month with Justin. Haley of colleague Racing fulltime teams in the NASCAR xfinity series over skype a few weeks ago. Justin. I chatted about topics concerning the number eleven team as well as things going on off the track. This year is Justin. Second full year in the affinity series and with colleague racing and Justin delves into how far the company has come in that. Short amount of time. Even cracking on teammate. Ross chastain driving style which is an interesting part of our conversation because the two of them as teammates. They can't share notes exactly because their styles are so different so stay tuned for that. A native of Indiana means. Of course we have talked about the brickyard running on the road course later this year when Nascar will share the weekend with the INDYCAR series that in turn leads to basically planting the seed for Jimmy Johnson to make a run an INDYCAR. So don't be surprised when Justin I take credit for that happening if it should happen fun. Conversation with fund driver This Week. Justin quiet and reserved. But I've always enjoyed talking to him even back when he was still going by Jay Jay Jay Jay Haley and I remember I was assigned by previous employer to write about why he changed what he wanted people to call him. Yes that really happened. We've both come so far since then and now we're talking about how to keep from going crazy in quarantine so here's Justin Haley on the racing writers. Podcast all right. Let's jump into. Let's start with some racing questions. First off I four races that we've gotten in the books. How do you feel about it? How things gone for the eleven team wessely. That was ages ago from what I can remember on the first floor races that they were fine. I think it takes it all back to last season we had some mix ups in the middle of the season in Canada. Lost train of thought going into the playoffs and had to start over which was hard for me as a rookie in narrow known what I needed from the art of slash Chevy extended cars and everything. We're working with so you know. I think having tyler last year kind of bridge the gap for us but now losing tyler this year as a quote unquote team mate. I thought what hurt us more than a has. And we've built a lot of new stuff over the off season. And we've taken this break right now to build brand-new cars. We took a brand new part of Phoenix absolutely phenomenal. So I think that We kinda showed up today tone as a whole colleague racing red issues but eleven team seen via Farnell cylinders in Ireland together. So I think right now. We should probably have all top fives. I spent on Pit Road Las Vegas in ethno boy now so I'll take the blame for that one but overall I think we've been crushing from a local racing was when I started and where we were last year we are now I think is night and day. I think we take ourselves from trying to get new playoff to play off contenders. Yeah I mean you've got three top tens to start the year three top tens at four races and the lowest finish was twelfth. So you're definitely off to a good start. You hit on something interesting there. How far has this company come? Because I got it written down here. You had said at one point. I think it was last year that it's going to take time for colleague racing to develop and to grow so it sounds like you're pleased than with the pace that the company is growing and the steps that you guys are taking. Yeah I mean it's been phenomenal even though we finish last last year right which is where they finished with Ryan. Trucks are stabbed through so much better at so many. More top tens. We got between the three of us me. Aj and Ross. Got Congress in their best. Finish pretty much every try last year. So yeah it's taken time and you know all the setbacks we've had was losing losing the Holler you know just everything that has transpired in Now both me an Ross having rookie cruces it's definitely tough. But everyone's been doing a lot studying we've been in crushing. I think Chris. Rice has done an excellent job on leading us all in the right people in the right place but overall I you know I think I think it's grown to two are like it. You know we always can can be a little better. And we're trying to chases Joe Gibbs cars right now which in our heads. We have things that they're doing that we necessarily don't lie. But you know we're trying to catch up to them so when it comes to that though when it comes to the growth and development of this company I mean. You seem like you have the patience. You know it's going to take time right like you're not pushing it too much like it's again. You seem very pleased with just the pace of what's going on so that patients. Are you a patient person? I guess you those sides of I think if you ask Chris. Rice set question. He would say not patient because in every Monday morning meeting I would just sit there and I mean you can't ignore the fact of where Iran if you have a bad week you can't ignore what the issues are so. I think all of us me Ross. Aj Aj biggest of just sitting in the meeting. Just telling us what was wrong and you know. I think that on patient I think the biggest part about it was calling had to to grow but I had to grow and we were both patient with each other. Make plenty of mistakes. They may play mistakes and we just kind of like a a good relationship. You know you just gotTa Kinda bounced back and forth off each other to become stronger. I think hog racing is Championship contending team now and I was to think that McCain chip containing driver for everything goes right but I think the past year and a half has been phenomenal. I think going to college racing back when I had the choice of of other teams. I regret it at all. I think dog racing was completely right choice for me and I found a family over there. Matt call again everyone at least filter and enjoy my time over here going back to last year so again you made the playoffs. Didn't get a win but you had twenty top ten thirty three races so again. The numbers were really quite strong for coming out as a rookie. And we keep touching on where this company is but when you look at now this year when you look at going from rookie year to sophomore year. What are some of the things that you personally believe you in this team to do? Better one of the things I would look at as you look at the numbers and say definitely leading laps right things of that nature. Is that something that stands out just trying to be upfront? Leading more laps pacing the field being among those top five cars. Yeah I think our biggest issue last year was qualifying in. I mean you can. You can lay that a lot on me You know this is my first time qualifying an extended car race tracks. Trucks are just wide. Open all flying begin to extend your career baby it in these qualifying qualifying civilian car the deltas. So big I mean you gain like a full second from where you're practicing so it's so hard for me as a rookie to just jump in and go second faster. Not Knowing if the car is going to do so that's why I leaned on reading a lot last year breath actually qualified to cars in front of me at Darlington. Are this Helmand. Everything still on came over and told me exactly how he drove the car on. That helped get bit so I think our biggest problem. My biggest problem is we can finish great. We cannot last field we can find speed but it's been taken me till Stage three to get up there so I think we just need the. Yeah we just need to leave. We need to be better at the start of the race. I think Ross at Phoenix. He led a good bit or was up there in the fight in Even though we have finished him he still out stage pointed us so I think you know if you look at all three races. Ross's only be once and he's in front of me in points but this is can stage points so I think that's what we're lacking I can put a bit blame on me for that shot but Definitely that's our biggest biggest challenge in in the biggest thing I studied weekend. We go well you hit on. The second part of that being too is stage. Points has to be something right. That everybody is consciously aware of because. I feel like not only has. It changed the way that drivers race. But they're so valuable. So you mentioned there that it sometimes takes you until the third stage to get up there so we'll be trying to earn more stage points this year. Be something that you guys think you'll consciously be chasing 'cause you're kind of hit or miss on that like you said of how long it takes you guys to get up front. Yeah we are in in Personally eleven team that that's our biggest fault again. Your point nine percent on me but it just takes time you know. I think last year I heard someone talking about Briscoe. Briscoe is find the same thing like he would fire off till stage. Three in. This just takes time. I mean so hard racing against each dies. Algiers been doing it forever. You know Ross is like his night. Fulltime season xfinity. You know so. It's definitely difficult but I mean that's not an excuse. It's just got to find out where.

"I think he came home you because it was like the first year hadn't made brees and members in the April so April of two thousand seventeen. I think yeah I remember. I actually don't remember everything coming yeah. How was the first week training with the group when you officially moved here. How is it different close or I was not ready for the like remember scaling things that I'm pretty sure her back is in two days. It's kind the funny looking back how your body adapts to wash for sure. I mean it doesn't ever get easier but your body does adapt and remember we did some workout is like seventy eighty five toes to bar seventy five. HD or actually no no no it was a three par workout and then there were rope calms after that Gosh we're too hard on the Jackie was here to Jackie. I went to Harlem because I haven't done that many before and I couldn't get up the road like I couldn't live the barras literally. Bring my legs up. Calm the row basing. Do you ever have any like so. You're always like super. Super Chill kills times during the work. Do you ever like leave and just have a meltdown. Uh Very rarely sure I was just kinda right there to see those this is I think I was was when the peg board ball was slick. It was freaking me out but other than that I don't think so freak out MHM. I mean like I wanNA work out not really no but if something like crazy is happening the only to ever to like straight up flat challenge me like we're doing this workout right. Now I remember when I was power clean and after I hurt my knee and I was staring at the bar and you told me you can't say it here. Pick up the FREAKIN. We can bar or just go away she. That's not exactly how you say. This is what I needed and then I came in one day when we were working out and she looks set me and just says hey you can do this. Remember what it was to Exco. We're going to do this right now. And I was like okay here. We go with that was. I can't remember what it was but you were. She was intense that day. I mean we wanted to get something going and she looked at me like let's do this. Let's pick up the bar and go. I can't remember what we were doing. Okay so what was it like growing up in the atoms household well. I have a twin brother so I had basically a sibling to play with my whole life and we did growing up and then we kinda done for a while and then now we are because we're like separated again but yeah so always had a little playmate and my mom was a stay at home mom because awesome. She's awesome. Oh she's great and they were kids 'cause so she was a stay at home mom with us where my dad had He worked day jobs but he wasn't gone that much but we always had so much fun and we were always doing activities. I always grew up athletic so yeah is the twin. ESPN thing real your twin too so there's been sometimes we're in the car and we start seeing the same song at the same time. That's that's not on the radio but other than that I don't know we both learned sick at the same time like away from each other but I don't know but do you guys score similarly on tests paternal right yeah. He's smarter than me. I think it's different when you're paternal like always it's been smart always sports play. Sports Sodas He played baseball for a little bit cross country but he didn't really is he naturally athletic okay I think I think I'm naturally athletic. So maybe I got that letting he got yeah. Where's he now. He's at Appalachian State University then you drop them off. I was that sad but I've been away from him so it's not like anything new yeah. Does he ever ask you about cross. Yeah Yeah we we talk every day but sometimes if it's something cool you will but right. He's probably not very star struck. He's sister. I mean whatever yeah I mean. I don't blame him for not wanting to go. Watch I mean he didn't even come to the Games in two thousand sixteen when it was in carson the two thousand seventeen. I don't think he liked it as much because it was in Madison for sure. Madison was not great but yes last couple of years. He said something funny after because he watched all the games events like on the computer he is like trying to be mean but like how do you compete with those girls because there is so much bigger like I would just see pitchers. I'm like he's. It's not like it's funny because I'm super fit bro. What was it like mentally to be. You know these some of the some of those ladies would probably people that you've really looked up to what was it like out there with them and yeah. I mean for the most part Evan Super Nice and helpful like I made. I was really good friends with the Shad burn to Super Nice whole time. I think it's really talked to many other people. Maybe just few but for the most part it was a really good experience. That's awesome. What was the greatest lesson you learned from the Games this year. Sustain your lane and keep working hard working good the cuts I mean Oh yeah I mean it. Could it could be the opposite next year could start with like one max very left then but I mean they could never know about the scores events or something like that and then they'll make cut or something like that. It's like it's all a cumulative tyou counts or whatever so that yeah I mean even. It's just really one right Max. Is that really get me. I mean I feel like sometimes I can lift a moderate to heavy barbara especially snatch the fit moderate barbell a bazillion means. Please give me what was going on. Kinda in your mind for that. I soon as he said the way. It sounds like I'm not even GonNa try because I knew at that point in the competition. I was so beat up and everything already felt so heavy. Avi that I didn't want to go out there and have such bad former for everyone on which I still had to do anyway but so I just literally looked at the bar because yeah I know I didn't really have it in me that day. But what was your sports background. Did you ever weightlift leading into those had. I could barely like snatch sixty five five pounds when you first started for probably two months aside. I've done like every sport that there is nothing. I involved like strength yeah so I literally did how he was a line. Drop to the base. Yeah Global Global Reflexes here did softball soccer basketball swimming gymnastics. I did play golf and tennis in the summer because my thousand country club news coughing so I did that in thing that's everything I always wanted to play volleyball but just never did you got to do a lot of things so I think that's important so that's the big thing I have played like every sport. I didn't acquit anything across it. Just finally that I was good at that so that's awesome you were you. How many times did you win the Games as a teenager one one one okay. Did you compete. I got second in second second circuit. I don't don't ever say it again. Bring it up was what was your favorite childhood. TV Show Hannah Montana story about Haley when we were in where we're at what Palooza we were here. We were all watching TV. We're watching Chris Farley. Mentally it was all the old Chris Farley stuff they were. She's like so what what show is this. We're told her at Saturday night live and she was like is this like your guys. Hannah Montana Hillary still gets a kick out of that. She's like this girl out of here so horrible. It's probably the what was that or what the girls it. It wasn't powering. Let's say yes girl was kind of like towards the end of me watching.

Let's let's let's let's talk about your other menu items beyond the impossible walker. You got your your disappointed with fries fries and a eh diet coke because i i just went for a win for the full meal diet coke. What solid diet goat was. It was a good diet. Coke actually good good diet coke. The fries were trash. I they were really cold. No just sucked. I know i mean usually know they were. They were piping hot. They were a little too thick. "This happened just seconds ago. Wore madness for the Cleveland balances, they try to fix their coaching staff. And we are anticipating a news conference coming from Berea, Ohio. Addressing the moves. The Browns made today to fire head coach Hugh Jackson and also offense coordinator Todd Haley, sources tell me that often to coordinator for the Browns. Todd Haley has been fired the decision to fire Hugh Jackson, Todd Haley, and then replace them with Greg Williams. And Freddie kitchens man, it is a wild day. Cleveland, maybe not the most. Maybe not what we all expected a virtually very Brown's kind of day emergency podcast. Yup. The Browns have fired Hugh Jackson their head coach and their offensive coordinator. Todd Haley, and we are here we the heroes had to unite to discuss it. Dan, Hans us along with Mark Cecil and yes, Mark settlers? Okay. Everybody on Twitter. That's asking if marks. Okay. He seems. Okay, right now, the the mailman Chris Wesseling and on the bat phone for this emergency podcast is Greg the hammer Rosenthal. Greg you there as well. Why am I the hammer? It's a it's a wrestling reffed. Our question the hammered, I kinda like Greg the hammer Roseanne's good so Gregson via the phone, and you know, it's serious business when we assemble on a Monday to talk about the news, Mark, we're going to start with you on this your. You're feeling when you heard the news. How surprised you that happened today? We've been working here Dan since two thousand ten and this is the fifth time. This has happened to the Browns. Wow. I mean, this is so inches. More head coaches than the Steelers have had since we were born this is what they do. Is it true that it's all after Steelers losses to all six? The main thing the past six I mean, this was always I think the ups it's interesting when the firing of the assistant coach is more surprising than the firing of the head coach. This was always the powder keg going into the season. The one thing that you felt like with Cleveland, despite all the optimism was just hanging out there as this variable in this big concern was Hugh Jackson's tenuous nature as head coach. And I guess it got this far. And I'm not surprised see changes because the thing that haunted. Hugh Jackson for so long. And it began I think last season and really dug into this one was the whispering the gossiping the. Infighting when you can't control your building enough to in your own mouth to not go out on a out on in front of the press and talk about Todd Haley in your his play calling. And you saw it in hard knocks. You saw it. Now, it just seemed like there's just been too much drama. It's so similar to so many previous regimes. And here we are once again, I don't find it surprising in the least west you. We talked about just on Sunday show the Steelers they thrive on drama, but they win the Browns. They have never ending drama. They lose and you put those two things together. It's pretty terrible. Well, I would add to the list of grievances against Hugh Jackson that what we also saw on hard knocks was very little by in. I thought from the players or the coaches his in game strategy was among the worst. I've ever seen his handling of quarterbacks especially the yo yo he kept Deschamp Kaiser on last year. The offense was horrible in. That's his calling. Offense, for whatever reason he could not find a kicker who could make kicks his coaching staff that he assembled you saw in the preseason Greg Williams and Todd Haley didn't get along much less. Hugh Jackson and Todd Haley getting along. I just think like the list of reasons to keep you Jackson. We're very small and the reasons to get rid of them was was litany of reason and Greg Baker Mayfield. The report comes up from rap sheet in has been busy all morning that Baker Mayfield not the most upset guy in the world that Hugh Jackson's out the door. And when you don't have a good relationship with the number one pick that is the heart of the organization now, you really have no chance..

"To the show. Hi, Magna. Thanks for having me. It's great to have you back also with the state from New York is column Lynch. He's foreign policies UN based senior diplomatic reporter. His latest story is Nikki Haley stuns Washington by announcing resignation from UN post. And of course, that is at on point, radio dot org that link call and welcome back to you as well. All right. Thanks for having me make no. Okay. So Eliana let me just start with you. I'm actually going to play a little bit of tape here from what the president said at. The press conference when Nikki Haley made her resignation public, and he was extraordinarily laudatory. She said, he said, at the very, very least she has improved the position of you in embassador. She's helped make it a much better position if you want know the two, I think it's become maybe a more glamorous position than it was two years ago. Maybe wonder why. But it is the been. She's made it a very glamorous position. She's made it a a more important, were importantly more important position. So we have, I can almost say many people wanna do it and the very good people. So Ileana help us read this. I mean, the the president's reaction to this resignation is quite different than virtually all the other members of his cabinet who've left in the past couple of years a, how do we read the president's we'd right now. Well, the president's reaction was so interesting because he's let previous cabinet secretaries dangle by a thread and and speculation has swirled about when he would fire them. That happened with Rex Tillerson and happened with national security advisor h. r. McMaster happened with his veterans affairs, secretary, David Schulkin it. It's happening with John Kelly who is his chief of staff right now with all this speculation about win. They'll even Nikki Haley. The headline on my piece was she flipped the script on him by a colluding with him about allowing him to control the news cycle, surprising everybody about her resignation Trump knew about it. He said, as far as six months ago, but he kept the secret and his comments about it being a more glamorous position that was impart Nikki Haley, but it was also impart. I think Rex Tillerson not fully embracing the pro full profile of a secretary of state, and it allowed her to make the UN ambassador a bigger position that stopped when Mike Pompeo became secretary. State, but certainly for the first year or so of the Trump administration, the UN ambassador ship wasn't outside position, and Nikki Haley took full advantage of that to her own benefit. Yeah. So call him Lynch. I mean, it seems as if Nike Haley has achieved a rare feat in in Donald Trump's Washington, because you know, as we heard just now the president really celebrating her her service in his administration, and at the same time, her own popularity numbers. I'm seeing at least we know one poll more than sixty three percent approval rating across Americans regardless of party here. I mean that that's that's a rare feat. How did she accomplish that? Well, I mean, I don't know, but I mean, I presume that the president probably fears that she could be a potential rival for twenty twenty. I mean, she said yesterday that she had no intention of running against and that she would support his candidacy. But you know, a lot contains in two years. And so I think it was probably a recognition of her. Stature and her popularity, and that you know somebody that he would want to have on his team. Well, let's actually play that moment that you just referred to call them because there was at least in in the first several hours. Lots of speculation that maybe she stepping down now because twenty twenty s on the horizon. Here's what she said. On my time. And I will say this if our all of you that are going to ask about twenty twenty. No, I'm not running for twenty twenty. I can Tom, you shoot. What I'll be doing is campaigning for this one. So I look forward to supporting the president and the next election. So that's President Trump at the end. They're saying that so good. So Eliana Johnson, Nikki Haley saying, Nope. She's not gonna run in two thousand twenty, but there's always twenty twenty four and perhaps now's the time for her to step away from the UN because you know she can make some money Bill further, build a political or or capitalize on the political credibility that she has that might set her up very well for twenty twenty four..

"Haley you recommended and it was actually quite delightful comes on the jalapeno cheddar bread i like the sandwich i would say that the mix of flavors was great the the chili sauce is really good and it's it's got a little bit of sweetness but not so much sweetness that it overpowers sometimes you get those those sweet chili sauces that are just so sugary but it's it's got had just a little bit of heat to it here's the only thing on the actual jalapenos health that a lot but the only thing i would say is that the quality the pork i felt was a little suspect and i think that that tends to be an issue with when you get these proteins that aren't like cold cuts that there's there's some sort of like you know something that's a little bit more substantial that's prepared docked you ordered it well i wanna try to it was one of the specials when when we walked in we should talk about this we all skipped over immediately i took a picture of it so i can say not to get it and i feel like yours is like one step two step removed from this yeah in that like i was like i wouldn't i also also remember going to quiz knows like one of my first experiences with it was like it was very saucy sweet like saucy sweet and i didn't have that experience today but that sandwich felt like kind of like barbecue thick saucy jack daniels sauce sweet bullshit i thought it was i thought it was nicely balanced and i think part of it is just that that really sauces a good sauce here's the thing that we decided none of us were willing to order i took a picture of it the lobster and seafood scampi bake garlic baked lobster and seafood mozzarella sauteed tomatoes mushrooms rather onions tomatoes and garlic ailey it looks i mean i'll i'll share a picture of this on social media it looked like something that you would eat on a dare i was just i was so i was so scared of this i was i felt sick just thinking about on.

"Sure we're gonna tie this all together in one big neat bow share so so last week you know amid the discussion about strikes in syria the president was basically also presented with a plan to impose new sanctions on russia in addition to the ones that the us has already imposed he from what we're told him i call it a eliana johnson great reporting on this issue he agreed to that plan that was communicated to nikki haley and nikki haley went on a sunday shows and basically announced that on monday treasury secretary mnuchin would announce those sanctions a few hours later the got word that she said that and said i never signed off on anything like that and they basically had to backpedal now i think like what you're seeing is what happens all the time right with with this president he says one thing his advisors believe that he has agreed to something signed on the dotted line and then he changes his mind when he has more time to think about it and this put nikki haley in a really difficult position this week because the white house basically blamed her for it basically said that she was confused was the word that larry cudlow the national economic council director used a basically made her look like a fool and she struck back pretty aggressively very aggressive i mean the that line says i don't get confused right like that's all due respect you could go down to the class and you just don't want nikki haley career goes but this is very different than what we've seen previously from trump advisors everyone on his staff is expected to basically bow down to to the president and you just haven't seen a senior administration officials so publicly challenged the white house and get away with it.
