Has Washington Made a Mistake Dropping Alex Smith?

"For me. Alex smith if you're loading up to try and win the super bowl and the next two years because you've got stafford for these at least two years. I would think that having an experienced. Backup quarterback like alex smith on your roster that would be. That'd be a nice luxury to have. Yeah no for sure. I mean despite worries about being in the same time ever stand those worries. I seen those production meetings with alex smith. He's hot i got it. Yeah yeah he's he's a handsome fellow So lies so. I i'm with you right. I mean if god forbid something were to happen. Stafford's someone capable as him. Yeah a backup quarterback and we've seen a lot more injuries at the quarterback position over the last five to seven years. I i do think it's really important position to have. So i'd or if we're gonna talk football greg then i'll just simply say then since they wanna be boring i'll simply say that that you know I think alex smith is actually still a starter. And i'm not quite sure you will want to be a backup. Because they went five and one with them and that team was trashed. Let me give you the flip side. You ready for this. Which is let's say. Matthew stafford has a couple of bad games. It won't take long for everybody to go. Hey you got alex smith. He had a great career. Give him a shot. I've never heard of crowd. Beg for alex smith before my life. It hasn't happened to him. He's had that he had a really crazy career. You know when he was in san francisco and every year they were changing coaches or coordinators. He had this one game. I'll tell you guys were a divisional. Round game against new orleans. And he ran a bootleg for a touchdown. It took to overtime. And then he threw a touchdown. Pass vernon davis in the this old candlestick community thought. Alex smith was on his way at that point and he's just caught bad luck. It seems throughout his whole career but he's had a great career because he's a winner everywhere he goes. Now he's like the most inspirational guy on the planet. Yeah it really is inspiration for sure what he went through his wild for. It's crazy that he's sixty when i saw it.

Creighton Basketball Coach Suspended After "Plantation" Remark

"So creighton announced late thursday. That gray. mcdermott has now suspended from all team activities including this weekend's game because of racially insensitive remarks he made after a recent loss. What do you make of this decision. After they had previously said everything anything that we do will be handled internally. And i guess my second question would be this. If you're gonna do this which you know. Reasonable people can disagree on whether they should do what they did or not. But if you're going to do it. Why didn't you do it before the villa nova game because before the villanova game was still after this story had already been made public. That's the question here. I mean creighton completely botched this when we talked about this on the wednesday episode. You know the story had come out. Statements had been made and at that point our understanding was that any additional punishments. We're going to be private. which again is just bs. It doesn't just because you're a private institution. i mean. this is the same school that refuses to publicly acknowledge that it has received its notice of allegation from the empty aa which it has you know that stuff. Just doesn't fly with me at all as it pertains to this as it pertains to the way and all of that the fact that you suddenly like you allow mcdermott mcdermott. On the record has said. I was ready to resign. Okay i made a mistake. I misspoke. This was an egregious error if you want me to leave the program coach team anymore. I'm willing to do that okay. Players say no no no at least at least enough people said no. We're that did not happen. We don't know if anyone would have said yes. I'd prefer to do that. We don't have those answers. So mcdermott coaches against villanova and then creighton potatoes statement. You know in the nine o'clock eastern our about on thursday night after our crate. Men's basketball team returned to omaha earlier. Today father hendrickson. And i engaged with other senior leaders and dialogue and discussion regarding appropriate sanctions for remarks made by mcdermott. That were not in alignment with crayton's commitment to racial equity diversity in respect coach. Mcdermott and the team have accepted that effective immediately. He is suspended from all team. Activities including saturday's home season finale against butler further sanctions remained under consideration of all of which will be shared publicly. So he won't coach against butler on saturday. We don't know if he's going to coach again at all this season. It's quite clearly a terrible look to let him coach against in your biggest game of your season on the road against villanova with a league championship on the line. You know like it just doesn't look good. You do this. You haven't coached against villanova. Then he gets back home and now he's suspended. If if i don't quite understand why you weren't able to determine this from early sunday morning until wednesday we had all this time between the end of the year loss and when the statements came out acknowledging what had happened to decide this and then what changes in a matter of time apparently creighton remain on the road. I guess and so. This is the first time. I've actually got back to campus. And i don't necessarily think person to person interaction needs to require this kind of suspension mcdermott. By the way he did tweet when all this came out and said i made a mistake. And i own it. Mistakes come consequences and i accept and agree with the suspension.

Houston bar struggles with how to enforce mask wearing after state mandate was lifted

"Greg Abbott lifted coronavirus restrictions. He made the announcement in a restaurant. The governor is ending a mask mandate and encouraging businesses to return to 100% capacity. How does that plan look to the staff at a restaurant? The governor did not visit. That's where Houston public Media's Katie Watkins begins her report. They're going around at Neil's Bar in Houston's East downtown neighborhood. A sign on the door reads. No shirt, no shoes, no mask, no service. But bartender Kristin Farmer worries the end of the statewide mask mandate may make that harder to enforce. Even prior to this, it was difficult sometimes to get customers to wear masks. So Going forward. I feel like it's gonna be More so under Governor Greg Abbott's new order businesses, Concil enact their own mask requirements and safety protocols, the bar farmer works that will still require masks and social distancing. But she fears the governor's message may further embolden anti masters and put people like herself who haven't been vaccinated at risk. We're obviously in a position where the vaccine isn't available Death but are trying to still work, so it would be cool if More people were vaccinated before we started opening up everything and Not taking just the basic steps. Currently, just 7% of people living in Texas are fully vaccinated. Still, some praise the governor's decision to allow businesses to operate at full capacity that is going to be tremendous and very, very necessary for our industry. That's Melissa Stewart with a Greater Houston restaurant association. She says. The statewide mask mandate was helpful when it was stay wide, and everybody had to do it. Was easier for staff members, frankly, to enforce it says it wasn't a question. That's why restaurant owner Alex Brennan Martin says he's making mass mandatory for employees but not for customers. Those strongly encouraged. It's become contentious and putting our employees are managers myself. In the position of enforcing those regulations, especially on an issue that seems to be just about 50 50 when you talk to folks and is highly emotionally charged It's a difficult thing to ask your employees and management to do. Houston has recorded all four Major Cove in 19 variants and medical professionals warn that loosening restrictions now will set back recovery efforts. Dr Joseph our own is the chief medical officer at United Memorial Medical Center. His main concern is another spike in hospitalizations. The moment I heard about these information of the governor was saying, I immediately called for a meeting here in the hospital on talking to the rest of the leaders of the hospital. We leave. From initial plans. So what we're going to do because we think we're going to have a large number of patients coming because of this, don't not wear a mask request by the governor, he says. These plans include stocking up on more PPE having more nursing personnel and even getting additional ventilators. Other frontline health care workers like ICU nurse Yvette Polo, Mackey share his concern. Colbert is nowhere near over. There's still people know ICUs like today that are dying that will die tomorrow that will die the next day. The next day, weeks and weeks to come still because of covert. She's worried about the extra physical and mental toll. This decision will take on her colleagues. Who have already been caring for a never ending stream of covert patients for nearly a year for NPR news. I'm Katie Watkins in Houston. The

28-year-old Philadelphia man survives 'barrage of bullets' with only gunshot wound to ankle

"Searching for the people responsible for shooting 1/20 Street and Snyder Avenue in south Philadelphia today. They want. Ella Does John McDavid reports a 28 year old man escaped a barrage of bullets with his life, suffering only a gunshot wound to his ankle. The white BMW parked here alongside her near Woodstock has multiple bullet holes nearly 20 along the side of the car, including a hole in his window. Residents in the area say it belonged to the gunshot victim who was fired upon by more than one males with high power rifles. Greg Yorkie Gertie lives nearby, told US kids who were inside doing schoolwork at the time of the shooting. Hit the floor. No, I'm not surprised by it because it's been gun violence here for a while. Something needs to be done about it. We need to get to the source and stop talking about it and actually do something about it. And clearly these kids who get these guns They're getting it from somebody where that is, should be cut off that source. 12. People shoot these gun should be arrested. They need to grow up and realize life. Amanda, take the black lives matter. You know if we say that slogan list actually do something about it, and to be quite frankly, Think it actually pisses me off that that was right down for my kids. Some residents in the area say they heard about 50 shots, and it sounded like a war zone. In south Philadelphia. John

Greg Cosell breaks down Patriots QB candidates

"Pleased to welcome in Greg Cosell. Everybody knows over forty years and NFL films the guru over various the matchup show. You know, he's he's seen it all he's done it all he's and in fact, he's been one of my mentors over the years. He's welcomed me in the NFL films to watch wage different film with different people. I think he's one of the most knowledgeable people around the NFL in terms of film and I love the way he analyzes things in in fact listening to him off of recenters me in terms of I need to look at things a little bit more at a distance Greg. Thanks for joining us. I really appreciate it Greg. It's my pleasure to put a while my friend. It has been a while back, but I wanted to get you in on this and you're actually the first outside guess that I've had on my podcasts and you know, obviously the Patriots are at a weird time in the Their existence at least since Bill Belichick has been there with with Tom Brady gone and what they went through last year with Cam Newton. So they are obviously looking for their next quarterback and and that could go wrong in a variety of different ways. And I wanted to have you on just to get sort of your opinion what you've seen how you think things fit with the Patriots in terms of guys that are available right now veterans and also some of the Practical quarterback so but first I want to start with let's go back to this past season. I don't know how much you watch the Patriots considering they fell off a map there about this way of it took. Okay. So I just wanted to get your general impressions of the Patriots offense first year without Tom Brady Cam Newton in there. Just what did you see? What did you think of cams faith? And and why did you think things didn't go great for the Patriots offense last year, you know the best way I can answer that is just with what the film showed because I don't know Greg is you know the game Ovation, you know, I'm certainly not there. I don't know what's in Bill Belichick's head, but they played as if they did not want the passing game to be a big factor in their offense. Now, I'm not going to sit here and say that's Cam Newton. Like I said, I don't know the reasoning behind it. But we know in a league in which the passing game is clearly more predominant with the exception of maybe two or three teenage more predominant that the running game and clearly more so that the Patriots were not one of those teams. They were numerous games that I watched on tape where I felt watching the tape that they don't really want to throw the ball very much. So again, I can't speak to the reason why but we know in today's NFL it's hard to win a thousand up a lot of points playing that way. In in no question, I one thing I wanted to know I certainly have my opinion from watching them over the years and no one expected Cam Newton to come in and be Tom Brady at the line of scrimmage before the snap. But God, how did it appear to you that the Patriots were limited and what they did as far as checks audibles things like that that we would have seen them do in the past. I would say that's fair. You know, it's always hard to know so many people's you know on Twitter social media think they know what a quarterbacks doing at the line of scrimmage. I'm not that smart Greg. I do not know what the quarterbacks doing at the line of scrimmage just because I hear him yell out a few words. So, you know it appeared to be the case that they did less at the line of scrimmage cuz certainly one of the things that God has made Tom Brady great and there's obviously many things but one of the things that I always thought made him great was he won a large percentage of the Downs before the ball was snapped off. I never got the sense that that was Cam Newton's game even in Carolina, which doesn't mean he never did that. Of course every Quarterback does That to some degree but I thought that that was one of the the key components of Tom Brady's game. So my sense is they did not do quite as much of that this year. But then again, I don't think their offense had as many elements to age. Which goes back to my initial point I can't speak to why that was the case, but it didn't strike me that it has as many elements to it. When cam did throw the ball or when he went back to past? How long do you think he did as a whole on the season as far as you know, making the right read and also, you know, just the way he threw the ball. I think he was pretty much the cam that he's always been I think he's always been a little bit erratic. I think he's streaky. I think he'll miss throws that are relatively routine that he should make an make some throws and you go. Wow that guy can really throw it. I think that's the way he's been much of his career. He's always had some scattershot Tendencies and he'll miss some so I think that he was really no different this year than he has been in previous years. He obviously through the ball less than he had in previous years with the exception of a couple of games. It was not an offense. Other than the Running part of it, it was not really an offensive built around him throwing the football. Yeah,

Presenting Our Lives as a Living Sacrifice

"What has been said. Before paul's writing these words romans twelve over four romans. Twelve his romans and the whole book of romans. So that matter and one is a real message of the book of well it establishes clearly that we're sinners separated from god but god loved us so much intervene descended son who died for our sins. We must turn from that. Senate put our faith in christ so effectively pulsing. He listened to this in light of what god has done for. You considering the fact that jesus has died for you and giving you salvation in light of this therefore i urge you brothers and the word that he uses airport. Ibc to king james work beseech means urged plea even back. I bet you brothers and sisters. I'm pleading with you. Present yourself to god as a living sacrifice in other words policy. Got us that saying. Hey if you wouldn't mind could you do me a favor. Gotta saying look man. I bought you with a price. I love you and this is what i want you to do. Give yourself to me. Another translation of these verses goes as follows. And i liked this. Here's what a god wants you to do. God helping you take your everyday life your ordinary life. You're sleeping eating drinking going to work and walking around life and place before god is an offering. I like that is take your everyday like here it is. Here's my career here. Are my relationships. Here are my possessions. Here is my ministry. Here is everything. I have my bank account. I give it all to you. Lord i presented to you present your body as a living sacrifice now. Generally sacrifices are dead so it's trickier to present a living sacrifice. Is i think a living sacrifice might have a tendency to crawl off the altar. Her remember the story of abraham. And isaac. When god told abraham to take his son his only son and offer him as a sacrifice and abraham obeyed as did is they made their way up to the place where he would be sacrificed and at one point. Isaac said he. Dad where's the where's the sacrifice. And abraham said god will provide himself sacrifice and so as they made their way up and late isaac alter abraham was prepared to take the life of his own son in at the last moment. of course dangerous. Stop them because it was never. God's will to take the life of abraham son but it was god's will to see abraham would commit everything until the lord. But here's an interesting thing you know. We don't realize maybe because sometimes in film and religious art isaac is portrayed as a very small boy fact of the matter is is probably a teenager is a young man probably full grown. So i'm very easily as dead was laying on the altar is it could have said you know what you're getting kind of old. Why don't we sacrifice you. But is gwen along with it in. This story is in the bible for a number of reasons. But it's a picture of god sending his son. The father loved us so much. He gave his only begotten son. But let's not forget that the sun willingly laid his life down so present yourself to god as a living sacrifice. What does that mean. It means we give our total bean bodies being jer. Total being so. We need to present our minds. Present your mind to god. What does that mean. Spill your mind with the word of god not the junk of this twisted

"Texas Governor Greg Abbott is ending coronavirus restrictions in his state. He announced this at a restaurant in Lubbock, where he also said businesses should reopen a week from today, Quote 100%. Now this is exactly what the CDC has said not to do and these public health measures early. Sarah self Wall Brick is a senior. Order a Texas tech public media and she was there covering the announcement. Hi, Sarah. Good morning. Practically What does this mean for Texans? So governor, Abbott said that starting next week, businesses will be able to open it. Full capacity and mass will no longer be required. He says he wants businesses and other entities to make those decisions. So, for example, supermarket chain H E B has already announced that they won't require customers to wear masks in their stores. So Abbott says, people should still do. It protects them. Right eye's rescinding the statewide mandate. So here's what he had to say yesterday. Personal vigilance to follow the safe standards is still needed to contain covet. It's just that now, state mandates are no longer needed. But did he explain why now? Dad, is it just that things are looking up across Texas at least when it comes to co vid hospitalizations air down even in regions like Laredo, and I'll Passo that have seen the worst of it. Vaccinations have gotten off to a really slow start here. Texas is obviously a big populous state, but less than 7% of the population is fully vaccinated right now, which is one of the lowest percentage is in the country. So you have mixed news case is going down, but vaccinations going slowly. How are people reacting to abbots announcement? It's definitely been mixed. So based on what I've seen on social media, I think a lot of people see this is a political move, especially after the fall out of the winter storm that thousands of Texans are still dealing with. I talked with a few lobby guides after the announcement yesterday because the mask me a date wasn't well enforced anyway. Dr. Craig Ryan with Covenant Health says We're sending the mask order may not do much. And he hopes that common sense prevails. I think that the people that have grown accustomed to wearing a mask and have gotten a sense of safety and security from wearing a mask will probably continue to do exactly that. Chris Bury owns a local restaurant is president of the Loving Restaurant Association. He hopes at its announcement will lead to higher consumer confidence. If everyone feels more comfortable and getting out and going out to eat and getting back to the quote unquote normal life, that's what we're looking forward to, and that's what we anticipated. Okay, That's how many businesses I would imagine might feel, But I'm curious about medical workers. The people who work on the front lines. Did you talk to any of them? I had. So I heard from one woman in particular. Christie Ginza, Who's a nurse practitioner who's been volunteering at Love Eggs, covert vaccination hub. Have a hard time believing the governor is taking advice from medical experts. He's put in labs and our economy at risk yet

"Great insight today on a new beginning from this discussion between pastor greg. Laurie and author don stewart. And the good news is. There's much more to come in this discussion. We're titling the presentation greg. Laurie and don stewart on the hard questions. Nonbelievers ask pastor greg's visits with don are often the most requested presentations of the year as is the case with this presentation and you can hear a replay of this discussion by going to harvest dot org. You can even download an mp three and share it with a friend or family member or maybe your small group to get a permanent copy on cd call one eight hundred eight to one thirty three hundred. That's one eight hundred. Eighty two one three three zero zero well past the greg. You released your film a rush of hope. When other forms of outreach just weren't possible due to the pandemic it was really sort of plan. B but the result has been more extraordinary than our original plan. A really as you know as yield saying goes when god closes. The door opens a window. And let's say he opened a barn door here because we had a door closed which means that we were not able to do our so cal harvested angel stadium by the way this would have been are thirty first year because of the corona virus. So we thought about ways to still reach people. Here's one thing we know so. Many people are looking at their screens right now. Their phone screens are tablet screens. And certainly their television screens so we thought let's go to where people are with something that will surprise them. Something that will be beautifully done. Beautifully filmed that they will draw them in but yet at the same time have a clear presentation of the gospel so we called it a cinematic crusade. It's unlike anything we've ever done. "Turning to god. They start crying out. Someone asked me this question the other day. What about the person that has everything. And i think this comes to maybe a way. We present the gospel. That's not completely accurate and by the same means. Sometimes we'll sort of present. The gospel has my life was messed up. And i was empty and lonely and jesus came into my life and now i've found purpose in joint. That's all true. And that's good and it's fine to say those things but don't only say those things because this person asks the question. Well what about the person who says. Actually i'm pretty happy and i don't feel this emptiness. Maybe you had and you know. I have a amazing home and i have a great career and have a perfect family. And everything's going my way. Oh well what do you see to that person about their need for. Jesus christ everything is going their way in life. Yeah the problem is that person's not gonna live forever and after this life there's something else. Death leads to a destination and the bible says we are made for eternity. And so you may be doing good right here but once you're gone what's going to happen then see. The bible gives the answers greg to the three basic questions. Who am i. Why am i here. What's going to happen to me. When i die we have no way of knowing this selves. We have to have someone tell us this and we have someone that told us this. That is god and people think. I'm self sufficient. I'm happy this and that well. First of all people aren't their whole life. Happy everybody has. Tragedy has a problem sooner or later. So what i tell people. Just be there for your friend or relative. Maybe your parents have got everything going for him. Just wait because when a tragedy strikes they will turn to the person that has the answers because they'll know they don't address those questions. Why am i here. What were the three cousins weiming here. Mike y'all who am i. Who are you jon. Stew on your greg. Laurie we've settled that. We got that nailed. We've got that one right. Yeah okay we've been made in the image of god genesis one twenty six in one twenty seven. We're not a mistake of evolution. We're not here by blind chance we've been made. Let me stop you. First tenant christian believe in evolution and the bible simultaneously or they can. They shouldn't because the bible doesn't teach at can they or should they probably should ask the question that way. You're right about that. Should they know they should not yes they can and do but they should not very thank you for that correction. You're welcome. well he's right yeah. Of course they can. But i've heard some young unbelievable say i believe in evolution but i believe in the bible and what that says to me. Is you don't really. You probably don't know much about either. Say that because you wouldn't say that if you knew whatever loose next teachers are you evolved from an eight or a lower life form or do you believe what the scripture says about the creation of man yeah evolution creation two horses riding in the opposite direction. You can't write them both. Got to ride one or the other so coming back to your made in the image of the image and likeness of god. You're different from the animal kingdom made for your your created. The highlight of god's creation was humanity on day five. He made the birds and the fish on day six. The land animals sixty eight human beings the crowd of his creation the creation that's made in the image likeness of god. We can give love. We can receive love. We have the ability to communicate that separates humans from the animal kingdom. So first of all we have an identity. Yeah why am i here. Who am a purpose. okay. the purple. Why are we here now. The purposes we can have a relationship with god to know him again to find out who we are and let others know what you do greg harvest crusade to tell people and all of us do that sharing the gospel of jesus christ because we do have an identity we do have a purpose and our purposes to to live for god in this life. And you know you really won't find your purpose until you do live for god. All of us probably at one time other tried to find some purpose and things and something that never made it never satisfied but once you let god you know in your life and let the lord jesus in your life then you have a purpose for living and what happens after. I die then the destiny. Yeah this life again is not all that there is after death comes.

"A pretty big deal. And i said all right god if you're real if you really exist and i've seen all these christians with their happy faces. Few real changed my life. I'm gonna give you a chance. And i took it ripped it up. Threw it down and said all right. So i went back to school. The christians came up to me and just welcoming in the fellowship. And all god bless you brother greg. I didn't like can come brother. Greg but i put up with it. Praise the lord all those words. I had a hard time. Praise the lord you know and so they said hey man you know you've got gotta really watch out. You're going to get tempted by the devil tempted by the devil. You believe in a devil all yelm. Satan's real you gotta watch out for him. He's really subtle. He's gonna come to you and give you all the things that you want just resistant. I thought all mind. And i went to my next class and this girl that was in the class a really attractive girl who i had been wanting to meet for a year but i was just totally afraid to talk to a really good-looking girl. Non-christian girl came up to me and said. Hey what's your name. I said greg. Hey i've never met you before you know i kinda like you. Oh wow she goes. Why don't you come up to the mountains with me for the weekend. And i went. It's it's the devil and it was. It was and i realize satan was tempting me and i said no and i was saying to myself. What are you doing. I said no no i believe in god now and then she just. Oh wow you know and got away from me the same way. I reacted to christians a few days before and so after classes over was thinking that over. And i walked up my old buddy gregg. You want to smoke a little aqua poco gold right now. I'm getting tempted to can. And that was really a temptation for me. Because i really wanted to do it. And i started to realize this whole thing and it was starting to make sense. And i was seeing the whole spiritual around. That's when i started to enjoy resisting temptation. I said you know all right. I figured something's going on you know someone's trying to rip me off. There must be something to this thunderstorms likely because things were happening. It wasn't something i had to make up. It was really existing. So i started reading the bible and feeling i don't like to compare god the drugs and i don't like it when people say jesus better than getting loan it because i don't think you can compare the creator of the universe to some stupid drug but when i would read his word in pray i had such a presence of peace never known before that i never got from anything and i just said. Wow this is great. What deal you know. And i became very excited about it aster greg. Laurie will have the second half of this message. From nineteen seventy seven in. Just a moment. We send pastor great studies out via the radio. Email satellite and even are harvested home online services. And it's encouraging when we hear that these messages are impacting lives. After greg i have been a true believer for six decades have been receiving daily devotions for a couple of months. Now they are my favorite devotional. And i look forward to getting them every day. In addition about one month ago. I started tune into your life sermons on harvest at home. You inspire me. And i get all your jokes. Thank you for your ministry and to bring people to relationship with god. I'm happy to partner with you. In your mission. I pray god continues to bless you exceedingly abundantly more than you could ask or think it's a privilege to bring these studies your way and we're thankful for our harvest partners. Who make them possible. Would you partner with us. You could make a donation at harvest dot org. And you'll find pasture greg's harvest at home services at the same web address harvest dot org. We'll today a unique message from pastor. Greg we're listening to a sermon preached when he was just twenty four years old and he spoke of his journey to christ. Let's continue with this presentation now. One of the most requested programs of the past year got back to school. And i had a hard time relating to the christian because they were the questions on this campus especially they love the lord and they didn't care if anyone knew it and they would walk down the middle of the campus like i said singing out loud at the top of their vocal chords. Praise the lord. You know and and i couldn't relate to that and i said well i'm going to kind of be a loner christian i'll believe in god but i won't hang out with them but then when they want him said come onto christian meeting. I said all right so they were at lunch time. We went into a room. i sat down. Everyone was looking to behave and that guy used to get loaded. He's a christian now. Wow you know there's just sitting there and this guy. He was kind of a strange brother. He was very fervent. He preached like old fashioned preacher. And jesus said you know he storming around the room. And i'd never seen anybody talk like this before. You know throwing their arms around and then god the fluctuations and. I didn't know why person would want to speak so weird you know. I still really don't know why people talk like that. And so i got out of the class and this guy comes up and he goes brother. Greg i wanna give you a bible and he gave me the bible with popsicle sticks glued together to make a cross on it. You know and i thought that was kinda knew. Wow thanks a lot you know. Can i pay for no. No you just take this and read it man. It's god's awareness that thank you of the room and thought oh man. I can't carry a bible around. Don't they make little ones. You can hide your pockets or something. And so i had this jacket with big pockets on it and i said well just stuff the bible down the pocket pull the flap over and no one will know so i stuck it down in there and i walked along and i hadn't seen my friends for like a week. My old lady buddies. You know so i said hey i'll go over and visit them so i walked over and looked around and open the bushes up stuff. The bible and hid in the bushes walked in pay man. You guys done this. Said hey greg man all know where and the lord you know with that feeling came back and i started feeling what was conviction to witness. I wasn't going to witness. Didn't wanna do that so i sat down greg. We haven't seen you for a week. Where have you been. I haven't been anywhere. And i just kept evading the subject. They kept cross examining me. Hey wanted to go smoke a joint. No no. i don't wanna do that. Where have you been man. What's happening to your different all. Nothing and no way. Was i going to witness. Suddenly the front door comes bursting open and it was my friend's mother and i don't know how she did it. She found my bible in the bush. She says who does this belong to. That's mine. I took it in every i in the room went to the book with a black cover and the gold edges and the ribbons. You know then. Many books have ribbons in them. In gold edges. You must remember and they said greg. What is that spinal greg. A bible and then this one guy goes all grey. Are you going to be a good christian boy. Now praise the lord. Thank you jesus. And i said you know what i'm going to slug you right in the mouth. I didn't know what it meant to be persecuted and to endure it for the lord. I just wanna hit that guy. I didn't like it here. These are the guys that told me no matter. Whatever happened to each one of us would stick together where your friends. And i said i believed in god and they were really giving me a hassle over and my friend. My best friend who i'd grown up with that i said. Hey man are you gonna shine me onto and he goes. Naw still be your finish. That that's neat go. Listen don't worry. I'm not gonna get into it. Same praise the lord and carry in the bible. I'm still gonna be like everyone else is just going to believe in god. Well you know what happens. The lord began work in my life and pretty soon i started saying praise the lord. I remember the first time i said it. It was hard getting those words out. Praise the lord. What an alien set of words to say when you've never known them and then suddenly to start saying praise god and thank you. Jesus in hollywood and things like that. I started saying it in my life started changing and again. I started really identifying with the christians. And i started realizing they really were my brothers and sisters now see back in the old drug culture. People called each other brother. Hey brother but they'd rip you off. A guy will look go. Hey sister and what he really wants us. I wanna go to bed with you. And that was the only reason and it was just a big facade. So i was really paranoid about calling people brother in love because everything the hippie movement offered. If didn't have everything. The hippie movement offered christians had they had love they had teeth they had brotherhood. They really loved each other. They really put down the walls that they now you know odin the guy mustard seed faith. He tells me he's a completed hippie. Now you know because everything. The hippie movement offered jesus christ gave all the facade limitation that satan put in it is fulfilled in him and much more besides that. And so i started getting into it and we had a little bible shut down in newport beach and i'd go down there and hang out there after school and one day. I saw my old buddy who. I told you a little bit earlier. I told him. I'd never become like the rest of him here. I had a cross around my neck. A bible under my arm and i started witnessing him and i was so excited. I'd been a christian for like two weeks now. I was telling him everything. I knew the lord this and the lord down and i was telling him in all of us sydney. Was this kind of head shop. That was right next to our bible shoplift. You know drug paraphernalia shop. The guy comes walking out and he'd been listening to a you a christian. I said ya i am. He goes well. Let me tell you something about your god. And apparently he'd studied the bible. A little bit knew how to make contradictions. That didn't really exist. But i didn't know better and he just totally put me down totally put down my faith totally. Put down everything. I believe in right in front of my friend that i was talking to. I went back up. Bible store and i was mad and i started to cry. I said you know. I just tried to share. Jesus with somebody in this guy came out and just totally ruined began. This show with me about being a christian in the kind of attitude that people have torch you and i thought well why are people so hostile. Y you know what is their trip. Go man don't you remember what you used to feel before you were and go. Yeah i used to feel the same way. And now i am one and i'm going back to people just like i used to be and i'm trying to tell them and they're doing the same thing i used to do. And you say to them. I used to think that we're the goal. No you did. You were never liked me but you were just like them. You know people think christians are odd. Specimens brought up religious homes. How many of you were involved in drugs before you are christians. Raise looking at god's change your life so many of you you know you look at you never know it. People think that we're all brought up in christian homes and taught the bible sense a little kids and and so many of us just had wretched lives men out there in the world. Anyway i began to change in my life began to change before my very eyes and the lord began to make himself real to me later. Someone told me about this place called calvary chapel. Not that there were only about one hundred christians and all california and when they took me to calvary chapel and i saw two thousand people crammed into a building. I freaked out. I couldn't believe it. And i was a little afraid because that's a lot of christians in one place you know and i was still adjusting to this whole thing and i was kinda glad we got there late because there were no seats available but suddenly someone left out of the second row and there was a seat. There's a steed over here at brother. Greg and i went walking in and sitting down and i was sitting there surrounded. Happy happy happy. There's just couldn't oh man you know. Suddenly this man comes out with a bald head. East starts talking about the lord and i really had a hard time with adults because after that point i was a real rebel with the adult world. Been through so many things. I just felt like. I didn't wanna even get involved with him and here. This guy was an adult sharing. The things of god. And i just liked him. I liked them right off the bat. That guy. I really take this guy you know. And it wasn't things he said he didn't relate to me like talk and heavy terms are dressed like a young kid and try to youthful. He just was himself but of course we know why he has that attraction. I know why anybody does. It's a holy spirit. And i thought you know how to get his head to shine so much the lord at gifted him and so the changes that happen to people that give their lives to christ began to happen to me and i became a new person. Jesus christ in my life began to change. People come tell me to go. We used psych yourself into that. I just cut that jive right now. I tried to psych myself into a lot of things. I tried to psych myself out of a lot of things. But the thing. When i came to jesus christ i had wasted myself so bad all i did was just throw myself down and say okay. God start working. I didn't even have the ability to psych myself anymore. And i know at the same with many of you. We haven't site ourself into this. We have a thought ourself into an emotional high because christianity is an emotional high there are times where emotionally i feel absolutely nothing as a christian. But that's not what christianity is about. It's about reality. People accused of escaping from reality when an essence we found reality because we come to grips. with attorney. we've come to grips with live and quit playing little games like little children trying to cover it over and pretend that emptiness is in there and we've approached it in embraced it and found the one that said i am the way that truth and the life. No men comes to the father but by me as the words that i heard that one day changed my life changers tonight the words in which jesus said either for me or against me. Are you for christ tonight. i don't mean to you. Just believe he exists and say your prayers once in a while. are you born again. Is your name written in the book of life. Are you going to heaven if your answer. Those questions to any of them has been no. I doubt if you know him or are you against him are you. Violently opposed to him. Do you want to reject him. Do you wanna turn your back on him. Do you want to be well. I want to be neutral. I don't want to be formed. But i don't wanna be against them. Well you're either one or the other and if you walk out if you're a tonight not for jesus christ you are just as much opposition to him as the atheist marching down the street corner with god is dead on a sign whole no. I'm not like that. Yes you are because he the your former against and he the you're walking with the lord. You're actually working in opposition against them tonight. That the words of him. "Way in comes on our own level anyway. He started to speak to me. And i realized that was god speaking again. I said all right. God i'm gonna give you a chance now. You gotta remember it to me. Smoking grass was not just a pastime. It was my life. I had actually formed my life around. It was everything to me. There was nothing more important to me than my drugs. I love them. They were like the rich man had his money. I had my drug. That was my thing and for me to give up. Drugs was a pretty big deal. Suddenly the front door comes bursting open and it.

"Glad you're joining us today. On a special edition of a new beginning pastor greg. Laurie is here with me. In the studio and patrick is part of our series of most requested messages of the year. We're going back into our archives. in fact this is not even going into our archives. It is actually coming from somebody else's archive from many years ago. We didn't have any copy of this message. This goes back to the seventies. I think when you were twenty four years old. Yes you gave this message. And i the first thing. I've got to ask. You is feel about hearing your message from that long ago. You'd do you agree with everything you said you know. That's actually a good question you know. What the sixty-six-year-old greg. Laurie likes the twenty four year. Old greg laurie. I agree with what young griggs said and You know he. He wasn't bad he. Here's what i like about him. His voice was very high My voice has dropped a bit since then. He's very quickly. But what i like about him is he based on the bible. And that's how i started out. And that's i still am because you know the power is in the word of god dave but this is a very unusual message in that i gave my complete testimony and i was very interested. Listen to it because you know as you go back in your memory you wonder too. I remember thinking really the way it happened. It's sort of like came across. The dead. Sea scrolls of greg like this was very close. To one of the happened was only a few years after my conversion and there were a few details In this story that. You're about to hear that i tell about my life that i had actually forgot about that. Oh yeah that's right. I didn't that my last Telling of my testimony so it was really fascinating to listen to almost like. It's another person but yet it is me and So we're going to play it for you now at twenty four year old me sharing my testimony of how i came to put my faith in. Jesus christ now. This is something. I don't normally do because i don't like to dig up the past but sometimes i think it's good to do for the point of just sharing what christ can do in a life and i want to just take a few minutes to go a little bit into my life before i knew the lord and sherbet of my own personal testimony and how i came to know jesus christ right now. I'm twenty four years old. And i accepted the lord when i was seventeen years old. I was going to harbor high school. I was born in long beach. Nineteen fifty two and my mom was married and divorced seven times and so i had a really lousy childhood. I never had a father that i could find security and i never had the family image ozzie and harriet. Type of thing. Milk and cookies. After school i never had that. I was brought up in an environment. Where is very quickly. I believe matured a little quicker than most children my age because when most kids were out playing baseball with their buddies and stuff i was getting an insight into the very adult world that i was soon to join and a lot of times. They didn't have younger. Friends was around adults more than young kids. And i watch them swap wives and drink their way around and try to have fun and wake up the next morning and and i just looked at their lives and saw the emptiness and it really quickly and i that i wanted something more but i didn't know what i really wanted so as a young boy and got into school. I went into military school. Because my mom didn't have time to watch me. She had the work and believe it or not. It was a straight a. student on the honor. Roll good kid private laurie. You know and as i was in military school. It got to a point where i was gonna get out and so i transferred out into public school and i was so used to the discipline and back in military school. You say yes sir to your teachers and the teachers were uniforms and you wear uniforms just like the army. Except you're a bunch of little kids you know. It's really kind of a strange place. And so i got out of military school into a public school and there was absolutely no discipline any longer. I could do whatever. I want. So i totally reverted to my other nature what i really wanted to be. And just basically was a rotten kid and the sixth grade. I caused a lot of trouble. I cost so much trouble and made so many enemies. And i would write things on the blackboard when the teacher was gone yell things out him in the middle of class and make up jokes and draw pictures of the teacher in various environments. Doing strange things so they would call me into the office and tell me there. We're going to expel me. My mom called him and said she would sue the school system if they expelled so they decided. Leave me at school and my teacher hated me so much that once when i was outside and the rest of the class were there. She said you know what. I'd like to do to greg laurie. I would like to bury him up to his neck in the sand. And let read at edith head really. The teachers hated me. But i loved it. You know because to have teachers down on. You is just like kind of an ego thing one day. My teacher really got me though. I was in the sixth grade. I won't tell you what. I used to call him. But i call them what i usually call them and he picked me up by the seat of the pants and spanked me and it hurt it. Everyone saw me get spanked. Oh it's horrible. I couldn't believe it. And so i was really mad after that and i really sit out to cause trouble. I got in the seventh and the eighth grade. I went to harborview elementary school. Then i transferred to lincoln junior high school. That's local around here. And i got in there and you know and i was starting to grow in that and all in noticing girls moore and of course i noticed girls before that beginning to aggressively go out and dates and you know the sadie hawkins dance and all that kind of stuff. But i always had a problem with girls. I was scared of them. I would get these big infatuation to see a girl and fall in love with her. You know. I was always into meeting the perfect girl but i'd get around and i would freeze up. I didn't know what to say. I could talk to anybody you know. Make them laugh. Say lots of things. But i'd get around girl. I like my heart would start beating. And i'd act like a total jerk so i got into high school and at that point i was starting to think about what direction i wanted to take in my life. I was thinking. What do i want to be really. And i look around at the different types of people and we had every kind of guy in our high school we had bikers we had athletes. We had surfers. And we add that people who are into their study. And all that. And i started looking over at the athletes. And i don't know about your schools. But the school i went to this was chronic amar. Cmhs we had different sections where the athletes would stand in one section and the surplus withstanding another. The athletes would stand in one section. Where they're letterman jacket but one foot on the planner and the cheerleaders would stand around drool. Nfl freshmen went through senior square. And my school they them head first and the trash can and then they had the surfers section. And this was this long all the surplus that you know. It's funny to me. Surfers all of this same blonde hair cut in the hang. Ten t shirts and the sandals. They'll just sit there going. Stelco bulk man. You know so all the surplus with these weird people. They hung around the vending machines. I don't know what they were there. They men vending machines strange and then there were those who like to hang around the library and study at lunchtime. I never could understand that. At all. And so i decided i wanted to go out for sports now as you can see. I never was a great physically built person. But i was always good at at track running and things like that and so i went out for football for a split end because i figured you know. I don't have to sit around and get annihilated frontline. There i can run up for passes and be a hero and all that and so i went up for football. I was doing pretty good and it was hard. Because you've got to get out there and hit these bags coaches really some sort of a nut or something. He wanted you to kick this thing. Big metal thing with these pads on it and hidden to ear started.

"People will be happier to day because we are honoring jesus and we are a bane. Jesus and we are doing what we were made to do to become like jesus himself in terms of being givers. That's fantastic now. Let's surf think about it. Gets how quiet still talking about money. Move on quickly okay. So our theme is is hap- it's heaven happiness and hope and we're living in a culture right now we're a lot of people have lost. Hope course generation z. Has been described by some experts as the hopeless generation. And your heart just goes out to folks who who've lost hope you know one person wrote you can man can live forty days without food three days without water six minutes without air but only one second without hope renting as we close today. Let's talk to a person who maybe has lost. Hope maybe they something bad has just happened to them really bad. They've got the worst news imaginable from a doctor. Or maybe an accident. They've lost a loved one or maybe they just feel like life isn't worth living any more. You know the thinking. No one loves me. Nobody cares about me. I don't matter to anybody. I should just take my own life. Even address a hopeless person until them what they should have. You know my mind. Greg goes to titus to verse thirteen where it says that we are waiting for our blessed hope. And that's that word macari again and the proper literal translation is waiting for are happy. Hope the appearing of the glory of our great god and savior. Jesus christ and. This is what i would say to. The person who is suffering from that hopelessness is to say. God has given us this happy. Hope and it's not just a wishful thinking. Hope it's built on. The blood bought promises of jesus christ that he is going to make all things better. He's going to wipe away the tears from every i for all who believe and trust in him. Now if your hope is in yourself and your hope is in the economy and the stock market and your retirement plan and your hope is always being healthier wealthier..

"That went really badly and it went better than I thought there've been a few thought it went really well, and it wasn't as good as I thought. So I can't he tells you. Yeah that's. Tells me. I was so worthless. She never says that. So. It's I. Try not to you know be swayed by my emotion, but I would say, Bible, studies. Speaking of humor and having fun you. Your humor is is very unique. It's good little negative. Where did it come from? Yeah, you know it's funny. I seen interviews that are done with Comedians, and almost every comedian that you've ever heard came from a horrible childhood and so it shouldn't surprise you when you read that about somebody. That's funny. You develop sometimes people develop humor as a defense mechanism and so because of my crazy upbringing I learned to joke about everything and sometimes it's almost strange the humor like you can find humor in this. How would you find a joke there but I do and I tend to see the absurd and? That was reflected early on in my cartooning and then 'cause my cartoons like I worked with the school paper mocked everybody. Macher I when I was in the south a while ago I drove by a town called Marksville. I should've worn. In KNOXVILLE. That's me, macher. So, when I before as a Christian I mock Christians and all of a sudden I'm one of them well, I'm not going to mock them anymore so. Now sometimes, they I mock nonbelievers not the believe them the people themselves that sort of ideas nonbelievers have and I just tried to the human just comes out try to be funny sometimes I think I'm funny when I'm not funny usually when I'm telling a joke but a lot of times I just kind of comes out in the moment I suppress a lot of it. There's a lot of things that enter into my mind that I don't say. Because I was at things in your like you look at me and you go. I'M NOT EVEN GONNA go they're going to say. Like. Five. Things are loaded and ready. Yeah, I just I like to have fun. You know we're busy. We're working hard. So when I can find a moment to have a laugh I look for those things and enjoy it. Why can't you have fun doing all this? You know when you're in ministry, you're exposed to a lot of hard things. You know people going through hard things in their lives sad stories and also very happy things you know but you're exposed to a lot and so I try to find humor when I can make it a little bit easier. I think some people just take themselves a little too seriously I try not to take myself seriously. But I take my message very seriously, and sometimes it's good to just lighten up a little bit Amen Everybody Greg Laurie here..

"So. On your. Husband. And your grandfather and father yes you're an author. So my first question is, what does that look like from your perspective? My. Well, you know. The last thing I ever plan on becoming was a preacher. First of all, I never planned to become Christian. But of course, the Lord had different ideas and I'm so glad he's so much better than mine. I came to Christ I've shared that story before, but you know I feel myself out talking about my faith immediately, and that was not the normal thing for me but I had something to talk about and like most people had a fear of public speaking I. Think when you read polls, that's like number one fear is public speaking number two is death whichever amazing it's. Rather. Die Than speak publicly I didn't want to speak publicly but you know when the Lord sort of opening up doors for me to do Little Bible Studies and speak to groups of people in soon during the church I wanted to speak publicly only because now I had something to say that's the difference. It's not about public speaking it's about having something to say and when you have something to say and we all have that something the Gospel. Well, that's worth overcoming your fears for in Overcoming Your Committee and all that and as Paul to Timothy. Cut Us not giving us a spirit of fear but of power love and the sound mind. So that sort of started being speaking publicly and initially thought God was calling me to be an evangelist because I love doing that I traveled with the band as you said, and when we started our church I was sort of thinking this was something I was doing the hand off to someone else and they began to grow I'm nineteen years old and I realize it's turning into a church that was not my intention to start a church. I wasn't planting A. I was. At a Bible Study of young people we were all in our twenties. In. But as it continued to grow, people are calling me pastor Greg. I'm looking for another great here I mean that can't be me but it began to occur to me. I began to realize it. I'm called to be a pastor. Then I can have you know thought a lot about that. How does this work my pastor? WHO's an evangelist or I'm an evangelist pastor and I just came to the conclusion I'm both and I'm called to do both. But my primary calling is to be pastor and now in the. Last. Twenty seven years the doors open for us to go around the country and around the world in these harvest events and do my evangelism which I love. But I always look forward to coming home right in those early years who was most influential in helping you to establish the habits that you needed to be the pastor that you didn't know how to be i. mean you just barely knew how to be a Christian at that point right. So how did that work? You know one thing I would say Paul as. As a young person when I was I became a Christian at seventeen was attending church I hung around a lot of older people. You know I made it a point to friend older people who could help me and in the early days hanging out of coverage chapel is hanging around pastor chuck and there was another pastor there named Pastor Romaine and he used to be a sergeant.

"Three, you need to repent of your sin. Now, the word repent needs to change your direction. The Bible says God has commanded people everywhere to repent. It's sort of like hanging a u-turn and the road of life. You've been going one way away from God. Now, it's time to turn around and start going toward. The Bible says retentive times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord then fourthly, you must receive Jesus Christ into your life not just knowledge genie existed once but saying Lord come into my life. The Bible says for as many as received him. It gives them the power to become sons of God and Jesus says, behold I stand at the door and knock, and if you will hear my voice and open the door I will come in right now. Jesus Christ Saint let me come into your life, but the doorknob of your heart so to speak is on the inside only you can open it. Jesus doesn't insane down at the door and knock and if you don't open it up, kick it down. Now, he's a gentleman he knocks. He waits for you to open the door and then you must do it publicly not as wine a few moments I'm going to ask you that want to get right with God that WanNa be born again that wanted to go to heaven when you die I'm GonNa ask you what I Starts Start Song and a few moments to get up out of your seat and walk down the aisles and stand here in this floor, and when you all get the lead you in a prayer of commitment, a recommitment to cries. Now, why do I ask you to come publicly because everyone that Jesus calls he calls publicly. Jesus says if you will acknowledge. People I will acknowledge him before my father in the angels in heaven but he added if you deny me before people alter now you before the father and his angels. So coming forward like this as a way to acknowledge him publicly and listen two thousand years ago Jesus died publicly for you. So I'm going to ask you to make a Public Stanford Christ and lastly you must do it now. The Bible says today is the day of salvation. Now is the time now the Holy Spirit, would see you tonight. Now. And the devil would say later next week next month next year better yet. Now is the time. What are you waiting for? You say, well, Grega. A lot of things in my life I need to clean up I. Think I'll clean my life of income the God no you come to God and he'll clean your life up you come with your singer come with your problems. Jesus cleans fish after he catches them. You See. So you just come as you are come with your questions. You say, well, listen you show me an all believed. No listen you believe in God will show you you come and see what he'll do for you. Do it now. Don't even say I'll do it tomorrow night. Because none of us has a guarantee will be here tomorrow night. Or the night after now is the time. This is your moment just like Nicodemus had an appointment Jesus you do too and he will fill that hole in your heart will take away that guilt you've been carrying around because of the wrong you've done and you can leave the rb scene knowing that you will go to heaven when you die. I'm going to give you an opportunity to make that commitment to Christ right now let's all our heads a word of prayer. Father I pray now you'll speak to every person during this message helped them to see the words we have shared. Tonight are true. They're gospel true. Help them Lord to come to you and believe and receive your forgiveness now. Help them learn to make the most important decision of their life. "Cannot be Christian without being born again. You must be born again to set it. That means in a couple of moments but let's talk a little bit about Nicodemus. Who was this guy? The Bible says he was a Pharisee what does that mean we usually think of the Pharisees in a negative life because of course, Christ save some of his most scathing words for the scribes and the Pharisees among other things he called them a whitewash tomb. He would talk about how they would be gironde the externals but completely missed the point and not have it right on the in side but the Pharisees were really pretty admirable group of individuals. Never numbering more than six thousand each would take a solemn vow before three witnesses that would devote every moment of their life to obtain the ten commandments not that any of them were successful in that. But that's what the attempted to do. They took the law of God very seriously. So nicodemo. Was Devout man he was a religious man and not only deputy was a leader because Jesus said, you are the teacher in Israel and you don't know these things that means a nicodemus might have been like a household name in Israel but was well educated the deeply religious. There was something missing in his life and you might relate day Nicodemus you U2 are religious and moral and educated ninety percent of the people that live in the triangle are high school graduates or higher. Fifty percent of the people in this area have bachelor degrees or higher. That's incredibly impressive. So many you relate to him in some ways you've been successful you even had some fame you're a alleging in your own mind time. Or maybe you've thought only I was famous than I would be happy I read a poll that USA Today did recently asking young people today what they wanted more than anything else and you know what the answer was the number one thing that young people want before I say what it is let me say what the answer to the same question was. In one, thousand, nine, hundred, sixty, seven, they have college freshman what they wanted more than anything else that eighty five percents. A central purpose of their lives was find a meaningful philosophy of life well now fast forward to two, thousand, seven, they asked today's young people. What do you want more than anything else and they said number one to be rich and famous To be rich and famous everybody wants their fifteen minutes of fame. In an article that same article a girl named Cameron Johnson. A BLACKSBURG Virginia said quote when you open the Celebrity magazine, it's all about the money and being rich and famous. The TV shows we watch everything from the apprentice. To Reading US magazine, it was the all the celebrities and there are six million dollar homes. We see Britney and Paris the people we relate to outside of our friends are these people or Britney and Paris. Indeed, it's fame really the answer you look at people that have reached the pinnacle of success you look at so many of them with drinking problems with drug problems. Spending time in Rehab facilities sometimes, we hear of them being suicidal, even taking their own lives. It's fame really the answer when Albert Einstein was at the peak of his fame he wrote in a letter to friend quote it's strange to be known. So universally yet be so lonely and quo stern. You've heard of Kim referred to as a shock jock made millions and millions of dollars from the new deal that the ink was serious radio. You think he's happy with all that money. Stern said in an interview I'm never happy I've never been happy a day in my life. Here's something you need to know. There are two sources of unhappiness and lie one is not getting what you want and other is candy. What she wants because it won't be all that it's cracked up to be a world famous actress recently said pretty much the same thing I remember she said one of the most upsetting times in my life was. Teen Success Financial Stability, and I was in love I thought everything. They say you should have to make you happy and I'm not happy and quo see money can buy you some things but it can't buy you. The most important things money can buy you a bet the camp by a good night's sleep money can buy your books but can't buy your brains. It can buy you a house, but it can't buy you a home. You can buy medicine, but it can't buy you hell. It can buy you amusement but it can't buy you happiness and it quotes Saint Paul. Saint John. Saint George and Saint Ringo money can't buy you love. Nicodemus knew that. Maybe you thought Oh if I just had these things, I know I'd be happy if I could have whatever wish for reminds me of a story of a couple they were celebrating the husband sixty fifth birthday and the thirty, th wedding anniversary and ingenious up here to them. This is a true story and. I'm kidding, of course. and. I'm going to grant you one wish and husband says one wish up under the three wishes genie said, well, you know times are hard. We've had to cut back. So I'll give you each one word. So the the wife she was so sweet she says, well, I, wish for a second honeymoon by beloved husband on a Beautiful Island and the Southsea and poop there they were surrounded by Turquoise water she and her beloved husband of all of those years together. The husband was sitting there and he hadn't given his wish yet even say what he wanted and Jeanie said, well, what do you want looked over at his older wife and thought for a moment and he said okay I wish I had a wife that was thirty years younger than me and prove he was ninety five years old. So you better be careful. which wishful? Nicodemus, came to Jesus at night. The Bible says naked not see right there. And by the way, this has mentioned more than once inscription. So it's worth noting. He probably came at night because he was afraid to be seen. Everyone knew Nicodemus? was maybe he was afraid of what others think. Maybe, you were afraid to tell someone what you were doing tonight hey dude wanNA party night. Going to the c Oh what's going on a concert Kinda? Wait a second isn't that harvesting happening? Yeah. Ono You're going to that? Yeah. Don't become one of those born agains don't worry I won't. Maybe, you were a little embarrassed to admit to someone you're coming here. A lot of times we're afraid of being laughed at by our friends. put down. We're a lot like she. Says all we like. Sheep Gone Astray we've turned everyone to his own way and there's no no mistake. The Bible says we're like cheap. I read an article in the people a while back that mentioned four hundred and fifty sheep that belt to their own death over in Turkey. Cheaper. So stupid at one chief goes off the cliff all the others won't follow and they're separate than the maze what has four hundred and fifty sheet draft to their debt done. Can you be one sheep goes he.

"Satisfaction of realizing that I've played my part done what God has called me to do and have had the joy of seeing the fruit of the ministry and of course with Greg. Good. You know his success came much earlier in life than did I was actually. Thirty eight years old when we started calvary chapel and of course, I was in my forties and in mid forties and all before I really began to see any really positive results and fruit of the ministry, and so here's Greg you know in his twenties began to see the explosive growth of the church there in Riverside and So he's going to have a lot more years of of being able to see the fruit, the grandkids and the great grandkids spiritually. But I wonder how many generations you'll be able to see greg by the time you get to be seventy nine. Well, I know that a church Maury dedicating a children of children have dedicated yes. So first, it was amazing. Well, here's these adults sending before me. You dedicated me as a job now is m dedicating their children you know, and that's a glorious thing and really what better way is there to spend our lives and then in serving the Lord and you never feel as though you've wasted anything mean look back in my life and they go give my life to Christ and seventeen O g delay. Miss, some parties or some fun times you know whatever I missed what few fun times are worry even in the world are nothing compared to all that the Lord has done in an I I don't regret any of it. In fact, I was I'd started even earlier though I started quite young because you just look back and say man, that's a good use of my time in of my life and you know wanting to see fruit that remains an and frankly I was the beneficiary of Chuck's. Preparation years because he shared with US less than Ta'ed learned early in life things to watch out for things to avoid things not to do as well as things to do in to embrace, etc. So having built on that, we were able to kind of get what you would call a jump start in life and get it very early. I didn't have to unlearn anything I didn't have any weird theological training or strange experiences and the church I just came as a a non believer with a blank slate for a mind and. I was saying, okay. Tell me what to do. Unfortunately I, was under the teaching of one of the Greatest Bible teachers ever who was able to kind of frame my thinking and then I was able to move from there. He told me you know users some good books to read these things to do etc and pursued that and you know so it's it's fruit I've always believed. It's fruit to Chuck's account. You know it's the Lord that you know one sows another reaps a god gives the increase. So it's ultimately got him we. Recognize that but having said that even Paul would say writing to the church you know your speak of his children and Christ and and so these people that are coming to faith it really is to Chuck's account as well because he said the framework for the crusade in I heard the word of God taught him from the earliest years there from Chuck and so you know we just praise the Lord for it. It's all for his glory, but but it you know it's all interconnected. So in a very cool way the Lord. was setting it all up and I'm just one of many I mean you know there's so many others that God is using. That are doing crusades as well like role reese and Mike Macintosh and others from Calvi Chaplain. That's not to mention though we know thousand fifteen, hundred, two, thousand, Calvary Chapel pastors are and many others that have been impacted by chuck I'm just one of many well, pastor check before we close Would you lead us in prayer? Be Very happy to father what a joy it is to again enter into A. Crusade and with the expectation and the anticipation of watching the spirit of God, touch the lives of thousands of people drawing them into a understanding of your love and the great plan that you have for their lives. They will just but submit themselves to you Annoy Greg Father for this crusade given strength. Give. Him Wisdom Lord. We pray that those that will be doing the music and all that felt each one be so annoyed by your spirit that people will be touched in Jesus name..

"And laughed at it was a joke to me. So I was trying to do something that a person would actually maybe stop and read maybe even charcoal out a little bit but then also would hear the word and you know in the Crusades that's essentially the same thing that we're doing with with from. You know if you go to if we could go back in time to nineteen ninety, the harvest crusade at the first Pacific amphitheatre would look. Different than the harvest crusade of today, it would be different in a number of ways. The the music would be different. The Look of the platform would be different, but the essence of it is absolutely the same as it was, and I expect God willing if we're doing these ten years today or twenty or something today, you know they'll be different musical styles that may be popular. There might be different tools or resources or technologies we might utilize, but it always comes down to just the the message of the Gospel and that's where you can't. With it, you can't monkey with it. You can't toy with it. You want to just keep it biblical. You want to keep it simple. You want to keep it in everyday language. And, then you want to give people an opportunity to respond to it. Greg Lloyd was amazing. Yeah little stories. You know normally know what it says to be a center. When he puts in a little stories, little visuals. He gets. What he said really really hit me i. mean it hit me hard some he said just clicked in my head and it just made me. Now, I had to give my life to Christ. I'm never accepted the Lord before never even hold the Gospel told that and it just absolutely blew me away. Blew me away. I think that if you would go to the churches here in Orange County, those that are really evangelical teaching the word that you would find every one of the churches here people who had been introduced to Christ in the harvest Crusades I can remember the one year that we had huge baptism down at Krona Donmar, right after one of the Crusades Third Crusader. So the tide was so high. Use the. The the pirates cove. So we had to go to the beach and we had our high don't know over a thousand people. Baptized Aaron of course, in the the surf was up and was just I got knocked over with a wave and. Voting into the Sherwood some lady sides. Surfing. That serving and it was it was really though very you know an in our church there are just so many people that made their commitment or introduced or brought to Christ through the Crusades and so because we've been going on year after year, and that's it has a long lasting effect throughout the churches in of so many of them, the people were first introduced to Christ in the crusade setting. So I think it's exciting. You know it's an interesting thing also dave is that I've met so many people now who are in ministry? Who came to Christ that the Crusades as in a church last week speaking and he was the youth pastor and he was introducing me he accepted Christ in nineteen ninety at our first crusade there at the theater and now is in full time ministry. Yeah this is Justin and I I did receive Christ in one thousand, nine, hundred, ninety at the first summer harvest Q. Sane and it was there that I for the very first time I. realized that it was because Jesus did on the Cross for me that made me right with God. After that got involved in local Youth Ministry and and today I'm one of the pastors on staff at Mariners Church in Irvine. California Hi this is Jack Hibs and I came to Christ way back in one, thousand, nine, hundred, seventy, seven on a Monday night as Greg. Laurie gave the message it was the first time. I had ever heard the Gospel and in responding I had no idea what God was going to do with my life. But some years later now, I'm now senior pastor of coverage Apple Chino Hills. And by the grace of, God, had been allowed to teach the Bible to thousands of people and I'm grateful to Pester Greg and all that the Lord is doing through his life and the evangelistic preaching of the word of God, one of the criticisms of large scale evangelism as well. Do you think all those people continue on with the Lord well? Of course they don't we don't say they do. That's why we describe those who have come forward over the years not as conversions but his professions of faith time will tell if they're conversions but our job so to speak is to proclaim the word you know when the Lord told us to go. So the seed, the way they sowed. Seeds in those days, they would just go and randomly throw the seat out into a field and then the soil essentially determine how you would react to the sowing of the seed. So I think our goal is to get the to as people as possible, and then leave the results in the hands of God. But you know when you do that sure people come forward and don't continue on. But there are those that come forward and only continue on but then they commit their lives to service, and now they're reaching people and then those people reach people and so the process continue. So that's what's really exciting to me with the passing of time TV able to see how that's happened. For some reason I was listening at one night and Greg was talking about this might be last opportunity you have. Come, little no one had ever put it to me like that. No one in the church I had been going to or in the church that I grew up in had ever said. You need to make a decision Greg was saying. No matter how good you are. You're never good enough. One of the scriptures he said was Bushel profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses a soul. And really strict on my heart because that's exactly where. When Pasture Greg. You know Florida's knocking is nothing your heart open up the door and let him in it just felt like my was just opening to him said, Hey, a few died tonight. Where would you go? And it was like pointed at the audience and it was almost like he was pointing directly at me it just the statement that hit hard at my heart. And it was not that point where I realize I didn't. WanNa. I didn't want. He without God. It was the way he was talking it was like me and him just sitting down with a cup of coffee talking about this is by the way. Jesus and this is what he can do for you. Guy Miller said it touched my heart. So deeply that when he gave the invitation, there wasn't anything else. I could do I had to go forward. Yes. I walked towards the field I almost like galloping down get down there quick enough. At literally ran. I was in the Marines six years. Father always trying to say men don't cry. That's all I did. I couldn't stop. Move. Pastor. Let me ask you after hearing that. What do you say to people who think that large-scale evangelism is outdated? Well, I do think that people don't really understand. So often of the Crusades and again in there are a lot of crusades that really don't produce long lasting results. You know the way the message is presented if it is an understandable and a logical way, it sticks with people. And and I think that emotions play a part but I think that so many evangelist sort of tend to play upon people's emotions. So that is a emotional kind of reaction rather than a true being persuaded intellectually this is the way to go. I mean this makes sense and and I think that's the gift that Greg has of making it makes sense. You've had a lot of years of experience and service in God's kingdom when Pastor Greg gets to that point many years from now, what is your wish for him when he gets to that stage in his era of service to Christ let me just say I just hope that he can have the same kind of.

"Touch hundreds of thousands of lives through a move of God called the Harvest Crusade and I'm happy to introduce a couple of gentlemen who know more about this move of God's hand than perhaps anybody else this side of eternity. Pastor Chuck Smith is senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, and pastor. Greg. Laurie is senior pastor of harvest Christian. Fellowship in Riverside, California and the Speaker of the harvest Crusades gentlemen thanks for talking with us today. Good to be here. It's a joy. We'll pastor chuck. Let me ask you about this idea came up with more than two hundred, sixty thousand people have made decisions for Christ through the Crusades. How did this idea come to you and a wanted Greg say when you suggested it to him well, Greg was doing the money night studies for the young people here average chapel and the church was just crowded packed to capacity and kids were outside and all. So I just was wondering, Noaa we took it to a larger venue just how many would come out and is just a curious kind of. Idea on my aunt side of just how many would come. So I talked to Greg about maybe getting the Pacific amphitheatre and just do a one week I never crusade to. Lord would do now contrast the size of calvary. Chapel Costa. Mesa with the size of the Pacific amphitheatre. Well, Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa weakened seat Would say there's probably three thousand kids coming a Monday night and Pacific amphitheatre is eighteen thousand. Capacity Tumbler. and My response was chuck. That's a pretty big place. Isn't it and Chuck replied well, Greg we serve a pretty big God. So I thought you have a point there. But it really was a bold step of faith to do something like that in chuck envisioned in this sort of a billy Graham style crusade But you know a contemporary type, not the billy Graham's crusades aren't contemporary but it can an idea that we would take sort of what was happening on the money nights reaching the younger people and then do it any crusade style you know larger scale and obviously inviting people to Christ and the Lord honored, and in fact, as I recall on the first week by the time we were done we had broken all attendance records at the Pacific amphitheatre in the final night. Place was overflowing the there would people that couldn't get in there was traffic backed up to the streets. It was pretty crazy. Firsthand in orange. County the traffic is backed up on the fifty five freeway near the fairgrounds and on most of the side streets around the fairgrounds says some kind of religious event going on there tonight. It is called the harvest crusade religion with a contemporary approach organized by a minister from Riverside California if there's a religious revival underway in America, this may well be the leading edge. The last night was just absolutely wild. You remember what was happening Oh? Yes. This up first Persian Gulf War. Yes. So there was a urgency people you know all know this might be the end of the year. And it was just really though exciting because they had to finally just locked the gate out people outside we set up speakers for them, and then people just couldn't get to the fairgrounds. The traffic was so heavy around the area that they just couldn't get in. So it was just really far more than anything we ever anticipated or expected, and that's why the second year we decided. We take the. Final night over the stadium and so that we would have more room for people on the final night. Go figure you you go from a three thousand seat venue to eighteen thousand seats and then you run out of Rome. Yeah. Go figure. Well, I guess we do serve a big. God. Pastor has right well Pastor Chuck Greg, Aman speaking for many years on on Monday nights at at. The church where your senior pastor when did you first start to notice that God was was using him in some kind of a unique way in bringing people to Christ? Well, of course, we were able to observe it out there in Riverside as God just had his hand upon Greg's life and the anointing of the spirit on the messages and the way the church in Riverside was growing so successful. And then, of course, when he came down to take the money nights, it was instant. It was just right at the beginning that was packed to capacity where we just couldn't get anymore and so what do you think makes his kind of a communication unique or effective? Well, I think that it is so relevant to the present day situation. In other words, it's very current and he uses great illustrations that. People. Understand. He uses the thoughts in the ideas of frustration that. Are expressed by worldly people all the time but. Famous people that you'd think these people really got it made and you know when you hear of their frustrations and and all, and he's very was very good at illustrating in just the need that is basic within every man to Reno and to have a understanding of what it is to be at peace with God and to have that security that is ours in Christ Jesus. Two. Thousand. Years Ago Jesus Christ the son of God went to the Cross and died for the sin of the world he was tortured. It's humiliated crude spikes were driven through his hands and feet and a crown of thorns placed around his head and a spear thrusting aside, and he bled and died there why? Because we are all separated from God by our sin? And it wasn't nails that held Jesus that cross two thousand years ago it was love for you and for me for God so loved the World He gave His only begotten Son and who believes in Kim should knock Peres but ever lasting life. On loves you. The last thing he wants to do is see you face judge. That is why he poured his judgment on his son who died in your place. But if you will turned from your sin and come to Jesus tonight, you can be forgiven. I was listening. Pretty intently to what God was saying when he was talking about Jesus dying on the Cross. For me and was very personal to me. and. I just knew that something was going to happen I was on the edge of my seat and when he made the altar call, I had already made up my mind. And when he made the altar call, I just looked at my sister and I was sobbing and I got up and I just ran down there. and. Hundreds of people were coming. I am. Greg Helpless Dupree, he helped me to pray. For Jesus to come into my life into be my savior. And I did that and I felt. Such.
