"Their young as a veto the Columbus renaming the Columbus obelisk so of lots lots of ground to cover here this morning, but In the U. S. A. Today Governor Hogan wrote an op ed the other day and and basically hey, is saying that it is time. Time for President Trump to concede because Joe Biden won an overwhelming victory. Over there. Hogan said that while he struck a chord was some disaffected voters. He was ineffective and spawn toxic politics that chased away suburban women and young voters and showed a loose affiliation with the truth. Well, let's deconstruct that, Bruce, shall we A 10 of million more voters for Donald Trump this time around than last time around Maura than any sitting president, incoming president in history. So disaffected people. Yeah, they were just a million on it. Look toxic politics was here long before Donald Trump was long before Remember Bush. Gore. That's when it all started. And of course, this look, this guy wants to be president so bad. He's now on launching already is his 2024 campaign on But the thing I think that bothers me most is that you know, he said he voted for Reagan. He was speaking to the Reagan Foundation yesterday. And when he says, we need to go back to the trump rhetoric is those what the GOP veer needs to veer away from back to the Reagan model to win back the White House. With all due respect, I don't think Governor Hogan has come anywhere close to governing as President Reagan did. In his two terms as president. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to looking at any really. I mean, what What can we say? We're you know significant victories for Governor Hogan here in the state of Maryland besides the end of the rain tax and maybe taking down some tolls and fees and things of, but really what were the significant major milestone victories, And here's a guy that wants us to think he can build the party. He couldn't even get five senators in the state of Maryland. Foot at least to make this the state Senate veto proof. I mean these air delusions of grander or or maybe it's just jealousy. I know I don't know what it is, but, you know, I think this is strictly reality. He's constructing a reality. The question is whether or not people who look at Larry Hogan now from outside the state will accept that reality because you're right. I mean, he's angling either for a Senate seat or for run for the presidency in four years. I can't see him at this point Going back to private enterprise addressed him, You know, not for now, so fine. He's he is creating the Larry Hogan reality so that There are two or in four years he'll be able to say, You know, I've been saying this for all along. I'm not one of those guys who says nasty stuff. I'm gonna go ahead, get along kind of guy and We just want to do things in a moderate kind of fashion, which means basically, anything you Democrats want. We will capitulate. Let's be brutally honest here and And as I said, before, you know, years ago, he used to come on the show all the time. He's now again. They won't touch us with a 10 FT Pole. And that's been pretty obvious, but even before covered right there, Thank you, Kristin. But let's face it. The Democrat opposition to Larry Hogan, the last two election cycles was pathetic. Yeah, they run a socialist and Ben jealous. And before that, I mean, honestly, I mean, they they had a perfectly good Democrat Governor. What was a runt? O unseat him? Yes, that's a truer words were never spoken. So Governor, Hogan says it's time for Trump to concede, agree or disagreed. What's what? It looked The model here we talk about what? Getting this here just a second. But again, just like Lincoln did just like Reagan did. Trump grew the party. He grew the party. He got record minority support. Latino support black support with Look how many women are going to Congress, 16 on bands still counting on again so nationally, Trump grew the party when Larry couldn't even grow it in his own state. 6 13 right now. Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland institute ‘stay-at-home’ orders
"Order now we turn to Virginia WTOP's Max Smith Max just tell us first of all what is this order from the governor today do not Brandon it specifically says all individuals in Virginia so remain at their place of residence there are some exceptions but essentially the gist of this is that governor Northam is hoping the people who have not listened so far to the need to stay at home stay apart in slow the spread of this virus will listen now with this tougher titled order although like I said there are still some exceptions right and is there going to be I mean in in Maryland governor Hogan mentioned that people in this will be enforced he will be charged with a misdemeanor did governor Northam say anything along those lines yes so the penalty for violating this order just like the penalty for violating a governor Northam other orders is up to a year in prison because it's a misdemeanor and so in it's a little bit of a lower fine in Virginia and Maryland but it is it is the same idea you could theoretically face an actual criminal charge for violating these orders there are these exceptions to the orders if you need to go out for a central reasons like if you need to get food or if you need to go to the pharmacy or you need medical care or if you need to take care of but another family member who needs medical care but you still want to limit those trips even if you are qualifying under an essential reason and the governor Northam says that's really the point is to try to slow the spread of the virus now governor Hogan decided to a an outbreak and a senior facility and also other clusters in Maryland what what prompted governor Northam to to issue this at this time the primary things were two things one is wanting to be coordinated with the neighboring state so for Virginia that includes North Carolina Maryland and then they've been working with DC mayor Muriel Bowser as well and then they they're in touch with West Virginia but it's not quite to the same level the secondary thing is governor Northam saw all of the people out on the beaches this weekend particularly down in the Hampton Roads area who were not just out there like you're still going to be able to you which is just walk you know maybe running in the sand or fishing by yourself but they were hanging out in large groups and Northam said as I'm a doctor himself an army doctor who's been in these mass casualty incidents he kind of felt it in his heart this was putting those first responders the medical providers the EMS all of those people at a higher risk because it's speeding up the transmission of this virus and risking that this peak is beyond what Virginia can handle they are still preparing and trying to add more beds Mary Washington hospital in Fredericksburg area has set up an extra facility they're talking to the army corps of engineers about extra hospital beds but they would like to not need them or if they need them they would like to have the ones that they need available and so the key is that governor Ortom is now sort of taking this personally it feels like and lastly may access I I suspect no one really knows the answer to this but how long is it expected to last this order well yes no no obviously no one knows exactly how long but governor Northam order specifically says it lasts until June tenth unless otherwise amended or superseded governor Hogan's order is indefinite they didn't put a timeline on it but it lasts as long as the health care emergency is in place all right Max thank you very much WTOP's Max Smith on governor Northam stay at home order issued

"If governor HOGAN were the primary. Get on the ballot here for the been Maryland. Would you support President Trump governor HOGAN, by the way, the I said, I was operation desert eagle sort of a combination of the operation was eagle claw. And desert. One was the first destination. The choppers were supposed to land and refuel, and there was desert to and they ran into a sandstorm. And that's the reason why they weren't able to complete the mission. So I wanted to correct that I think the problem right now with anybody that's trying to challenge President Trump. Whether it be over publican or a democrat are challenging him in the wrong way. They're they're challenging him. Because of who he is the person that he is. So they're challenging the person as opposed to the policies. Now. I don't see how any legitimate Republican could really challenge the president's policies that much to be honest with you because what he's been able to accomplish has been pretty much accomplish without the congress because the congressman standing these way doing a lot of things already done a lot of things through executive orders. Some that he has been able to just relinquish is far as rules regulations and things of that nature is made inroads with establishing perhaps piece of standing basis with North Korea. Impose sanctions against Iran, recognizing that Iran is a huge threat to the entire world through exportation of terrorism. And there's so many other things that you could take a whole allergist discussing things that he is done. So I I if you're going to challenge the president challenging on his policies, what you would do that you think would be better and what HOGAN fails to notice. It's it's called the McCain syndrome. You know, they love you now. But once you become president, boom, you get the same treatment as Donald J Trump. That's just what Democrats do what the left does with the media does. So for him to dance with these never Trumpers, and so on and so forth. You know, Rush Limbaugh was on with Martha McCallum last night and discussing this problem, he had some advice. He's a Trump cannot be stopped. The Democrats won't be able to beat them and Republicans the like Larry HOGAN and Mitt Romney, and John casick and Bill weld at all, you know, it's time to this is Trump's party. Now, this party of Donald Trump right now and the Republicans that don't realize that had better get on board better get on board. Otherwise, you'd be left in the dust and Frank I think you're a hundred percent, right. I think this is personal animus, they don't like his style. Then like the way he tweets to get around the media. He can be bold. He can be brash. Sometimes you know, he's he's like a bull in China shop. But that's why Americans love. Him and elected him. Because it was something different. Larry HOGAN should understand that he ran as an outsider a businessman, you know, again, not your typical politician, unfortunately, his morphed into that very thing he ran against he's become a typical politician. And I think he's pulling the wool over the people's eyes. And again, I like governor HOGAN. But I think he could learn something from President Trump as far as how to deal with Democrats because he's in a similar situation here in Maryland having to deal with them. And I know there are different methodologies, and what have you for doing? So but by large, I think the president. Well, they had EBay had more tools these box because he, you know, their executive orders cetera et cetera. And well, and Larry HOGAN has has the same tools his walk to a certain extent. But the Democrats just have this overwhelming majority in both the Senate and the house where even when the governor of veto something there's enough votes to override his veto, HOGAN and other Republicans like him should be out there shouting to the heavens, celebrating the mall of report again talking about again, how this president was accused of treason. This president was called a traitor, and this is the head of the Republican party right now, and every Republican should be rallying behind this president just like the Democrats would do if what was one of their own. This is one thing. The Republicans have never learned from Democrats circle the wagons better than the Republicans. And this is a prime example of the circular firing. Squad HOGAN says he's expecting backlash from Trump loyalists quote. I really am disgusted. That people aren't speaking out. Yes. I'm going to get criticized. Yes. People aren't going to like it. I think it's important to say what you think I think it's important for us to say the truth really that is the truth. And it just again, this is this is this is swamp stuff. And again, I think that somebody whoever is advising Larry HOGAN is not doing a very good job. And maybe it's ego. When your phone is ringing off the hook from these never Trumpers like Bill Kristol. I'm speculating here. Who knows maybe it's Willard? Maybe it's Paul rhino. Maybe it's a Bill and others took a shot of Bill weld yesterday to say. His guy is you know, but I'm not I'm not doing a suicide mission here. I think that it's ego. People are filling his head with flights of fancy. They don't let the democrat of Francesco is a lot of a lot of Democrats that don't like him because he sides with HOGAN a lotta times because he's a he's a sense democrat. I don't always agree with Peter fan tro. But he's been on the show before we've had good exchanges. Sometimes he's right. We have good ideas. So this was the political partisanship Democrats on the Labor Day start for schools and taking away Fransico. Unfortunately, these are just basically. Their political motions. Because the Democrats do have the votes to override all three vetoes of governor HOGAN, she there's no room in the democrat party. Whether it's local here in Maryland, or in Washington, for another opinion from other from fellow Democrats, you either toed the line the way the leadership of the house and the Senate want you go or, you know, you're you're going to they're going to be recriminations. They're going to be problems. Even if you're a democrat, you gotta toe the line. That's the way it operates here in Maryland. That's the way it operates in Washington. That's right. And that's how they circle the wagons and the the they don't eat their own. It's very rarely when they do. Again, Marianne Lasantha is still on the on the job even though they recommended jealousy yesterday. But you know, again, they'll they'll do what they have to do. But they'll circle the wagons. And in this particular case, you know, he can do all the reaching out to the other side of the aisle, he wants governor HOGAN, but at the end of the day, they know he's a lame duck governor, and he is just doesn't have the numbers. Maybe what we need the Maryland general assembly is two or three. Cossio Cortez's just to shake things up in the democrat party down there. We've got a couple of not quite maybe they're not getting as much publicity as a social sandy. But there are a lot of progressives progresses. Wanted me out. You know, all the edge while we've been talking about this Bill for most of the session. They take your own life act. It's actually called the end of life options act it passed in the house of delegates by a slim margin yesterday in the Senate. They held debate wasn't as quite as riveting the house had this emotional if people in tears and senators is the the really couldn't be bothered yesterday. A lot of them left the chamber, and it had to be called back by with a bell to actually vote on it at the end of the day. They fell one vote shy of the vote needed to advance. It was deadlocked. Twenty-three Twenty-three Senator Obie Patterson PG county democrat said he voted present. He couldn't say couldn't vote. Yes, or no. You couldn't vote left or right quote. I did not cast a vote simply because I could not bring myself to move right or left on the Bill. And therefore, I didn't vote at all. He's very active in about this church in Prince, George's county, local Tom Miller said it was going to be very very close and how much closer could be. I mean, the house passes it, and then the Senate has a tie vote. Hell ever it's not over until it's over right? And the legislature has until April the eighth before it can Kluge and anything is possible. This thing could be resurrected again when you have a tie vote. All you have to do is twist one arm, the sponsor of the Bill Senator Will Smith. He's getting ready to deploy today. Back to Afghanistan. He's in the navy reserve. So he'll be out of the Maryland Senate. So they now they've lost another vote. So even if you twist the Senator Patterson's arm. Will Smith is. I don't know if you can vote while you're in Afghanistan. I don't know what the Senate roles are on that. But they are going to lose his vote. I you know, I would feel better if this were April ninth. And this was the case, I think you are right on that. So we're still watching and that is good news that this was defeated. This was closed as was razor thin next year couldn't come back. So we're going to have to marshal the forces for next year as well because I've already heard from the compassionate choices people on a lot of the pro-death advocates. They're out there saying that we'll be back. We'll get it next year because it's failed three times already. This is the fourth time, and they think the fifth time is going to be a charm. We still have to beat the defeat the sanctuary legislation that is currently still in hopper in, and it's kinda sad that this is what we have to hang our hats on is is trying to defeat bills and keep them from becoming legislation instead of actually getting bills passed that will help Marylanders spot. Now, that's the way it is. When you don't have the numbers. Six fourteen time for WCBS, traffic.

"Aggravating midterm elections. Twenty eighteen this verse Eliot, I'm here from now until this evening and joined in studio joining me in studio, Pat mcdonagh, of course, who is here's your political analysis of the local races. Because know, Pat, you and following them with a tremendous amount of interest and also kansallis who does a lot of polling are here in the states. And as well as a pretty firm idea as to how some of the other reasons around the country might be going, Pat and Patrick good evening. This is how referred to you because otherwise I will get confused. Good evening, Bruce. This is Patrick good evening. This is Patrick. Okay. Oh, cut up. All right with you. How do you see this evening working out here in Maryland and across the country? Well, Mr. T here in Maryland and across the country will design all of these elections, Mr. T as Mr. turnip, Paul anybody disagrees with that what makes all of this very confusing both locally and across the nation. Is that the numbers are astronomical? According to what we've been seeing their double. Now, the question at that point is I mean, this is something unusual the question at that point. Is who are folks that are coming out in these extraordinary numbers? What I've seen both on CNN and FOX is that they are young people minorities as far as they can aspertain. Now, if that is the case that does not bode well for the Republicans if that is the case locally in Maryland. We had the weather Maryland is a weather state when it comes to voting, but the weather wasn't that bad. So I see the governor winning this election. If the weather did not have an impact at about fifty three to forty seven. And if it had an impact maybe about fifty two to forty eight. So I think the Democrats are coming out too. I work the polls on election day early voting for eight days at three different polls. So I had an opportunity to see who was coming out in Baltimore County, and I had an opportunity to converse with these people. And I think it's. It's gonna be some difficulty for the Democrats in this county election, not for HOGAN, I don't believe, but I think probably Patrick can substantiate. This HOGAN receive fifty nine percent of the vote in Baltimore County in the last election, and he wants statewide fifty one to forty nine. I never knew that. I just found that out. I thought that's pretty close considering the circumstances of the last election the very light turnout by the dams now Bobby Erlich did the same thing historically. And then the second time around as the incumbent he dropped down Patrick may know, but he dropped down to a certain percentage point and the third time around. I think he was under the fifty percent. So the dynamic is in Baltimore County will this happen to the governor again. And if it does it'll have impact statewide on his reelection. Or will he which he's proven to be able to do this so far will he be able to break that? The jinx or that trend if indeed HOGAN wins with those kinds of numbers pan. Then you're talking about downtick and people are running straight ticket. That'd be good news for some of the other candidates are river comes to mind, if indeed there voting straight ticket and most people are all split ticket a vote for HOGAN, and then John for Johnny. Oh, for example, in Baltimore County. I think what's happening is HOGAN is popular among a lot of Democrats. And he's also popular. Amongst minorities more so than traditional Republicans are so when the minorities in the Democrats, go out and they exercise their vote, and they satisfy their. You know, changing over to the party, they do it through the governor. I believe, but then they transition back to the traditional democrat party. That's what I picked up at the polls on election day. I had a lot of people come up and they'd say, well, I'm a democrat. And they knew who I was from television. They said I'm voting for the governor and you'll happy. That's okay. So what I'm body chassis and in racist like, for example, mealy Christian mealy and Klaus mar very important significant race that could have a problem there for Christian. If that does happen because the dams are coming out in big numbers compared to the Republicans and finally on the east side and the race for county council between incumbent Kathy Bevan's, a democrat. And Ryan Iraqi the Republican challenger if to rocky winns ski when you're going to have gridlock. Government to parties have a conservative. Council and a liberal county executive if Bevan's wins we're going to have a real problem in Baltimore County. But I do see them coming back the other way that that's what I'm hearing. That's not scientific are you going to call the race for invulnerable. Marconi? You said your home predicting protections. I'm calling the governor of calling. The other two I think are really too close to call or Patrick solace. Both in this state, and are you pulled extensively here in Maryland. Both of this state and around the country. How you see things breaking up? Well in Maryland. I basically see the the election is Pat does although a little different than I would put Hogen up based on the last numbers. I saw statewide which were about three weeks ago and some stuff I've done here in the state and certain certain jurisdictions. I still think that governor HOGAN is probably gonna win by double digits. I think it's going to be around fifty four around two forty three and with two or three for the third party candidates is for in the one question is the percentage the democratic numbers for HOGAN are amazing. I never in the last two months Bruce sought under thirty five percent be at my pole or. Any other poll that was out there any other credible poll now if he can hang at that level to what extent does that provide coattails, for instance, in Baltimore County? I think I see it a little different than Pat does Larry HOGAN, and I agree completely when he says fifty nine percent for years ago for the first three years Hogan's term, I thought there was no way he could replicate he could. There was no way get back to that fifty nine watermark. Now is it? And then everything I've seen in the last eight nine ten months has confirmed. Not only do I now think he's probably gonna hit the fifth now, I think he's going to be into the sixties. And then how far into the sixties candidate jealous has proven himself to not be a very exciting candidate for some of the Baltimore suburban areas. And if governor HOGAN is now at sixty three sixty four sixty five does that create an environment where? Al read Mer perhaps not doing quite as well with the crossover is the governor. But well enough, I think I still think there is an a decent chance in a very close race for our red to to pull it out and nationwide. You, and I guess restaurants reports are about the only people that I know of a we're taking a look at the the environment political environment nationwide, and you see differently fry pretty much everybody else out there. I do I fundamentally see the dynamic that was the culminated with the the breadth Cavanaugh confirmation process. And then the circus the last eight ten days into my that galvanized in energized normal voters who don't usually vote casual voters casual voters that don't normally vote in midterms. And they said, hey, something fundamentally is not right with this. And I think the impression for many. Although there is the metoo argument. I think that's legitimate. I think for many that whole process engineered by choreographed by the Democrats on the Senate committee conveyed a scene that would have made Joseph Stalin proud, which is show me the man, and I'll show you the crime berry. I think you said that when asked about Stalin about this happen in various assure show me the man they'll show you the crime, we'll make something up necessary. And actually for for what it matters you've seen a four individuals now from this being referred to the department of Justice for criminal prosecution because of what they said, there was untrue deliberately untrue to the reading those recently was whoever Jane Doe was her last name, Layton seems to me that she said, well, I was just angry sent that off. Well, so she said initially. Yes, it was me it happened in the in the backseat of a car. And then should we can't completely? Well, that's false testimony kind. Wouldn't you think Bruce, you know, much more about journalism than I ever hoped to wouldn't you think that was a rather big story? How huge they should get kind of coverage from from. Tabooed indicate biased reporting. That we never comment on the national. Yes, I think we've got a mixed bag here to take a look at a lot of the polling indicates that in the red states the reds are coming out. And in the blue states. The blues are coming out. It's kind of a kind of mix, but the Gallup poll just came out and said that sixty percent of the people that are coming out to vote want to send the message, and that's a disturbing number because I don't think they want to send the message about keeping Donald Trump in as Patrick said a lot of the voters who vote for Trump or what we call when she called unlikely voters, which they don't vote in every election. That's why Trump has been on. And he's done the best job of any president in the history states going out and campaigning for his cause and his movement, and he's really done a good job. So that might have an impact that we're not sure about, but I don't like the numbers. I'm seeing in Georgia. And I don't like the numbers. I'm seeing in Florida where these new voters are coming out and these. Of minority voters are coming out. And that's the problem in Baltimore County back in nineteen ninety eight. We had a county sheriff by the name of Norman pepper sack who had won three consecutive elections and was very popular. And we had I think three people in the courthouse positions that where Republicans and at that point in time. The population of the county had changed to a point we weren't aware of this in the voting population where we had crossed the Rubicon. And what that meant was that pepper sack lost to a totally unknown woman running for sheriff and all of our courthouse. People lost because the voting disposition in the county had changed. I'm not too. Sure. And I'm not saying this is true now, but we may have crossed the Rubicon in Baltimore County on countywide races positions for county executive Johnny one for two reasons. One. Of course, there was. Spat between the two other candidates, which was not appealing. But he got a tremendous Blackford. He knew from the beginning that he was going to need to make deals, and he may deals with every single black politician in Baltimore County, and they put him on every one of his ballots, and he ran up terrific numbers. Otherwise, and you know, this proves he was always considered like third the outlier kind of fries. Yeah. Well, that's what's going to happen in the general. Doesn't section eight somewhere? The people that I've been talking with on the air the idea that the is real big more section. Eight spread all over the county people really at least in this listening audience. They don't want that at all. But you know, what it didn't resonate in this election? It could have resonated much more strongly. It should have been hit harder. There should have been commercials on that issue. But the other part about the problem in Baltimore County, and maybe even in some other counties, like Harford county, they're Republican numbers voting is down in this election. And of course. Hogan's going to get every democrat in every Republican in Harford county regardless but the numbers are down. And I was told the other day and. Amelie's district. The Republican vote is down by two to three percent. And that's not good. All right. We'll see how that plays out with us. Pat, Patrick Gonzales. I'm trying to remember patent battle here. All right, Pat, and Patrick are here and your calls. You're welcome. We'll have a conversation with of course of this evening. Some polls have already closed some are due to close at seven thirty hours close at eight o'clock this evening and from that point forward. We'll be bringing you all results as they come in. And hearing from you as well coming up, Patrick and tell us I wanna find out from you. If I could whether or not you posters, actually satisfactorily caught the impact if there is.

"Eight thirty five we'll talk to Cancun Cinelli. Join us her perspective from Virginia. I'm Vince Collines alongside Mary Walter. And good morning. Joining us now, Greg Klein co-founder of red Maryland and a frequent guest here on mornings on the Monterey. Good morning. Welcome back. Good morning. Thanks for having me again. Yeah. Great to have you. We're wanted obviously to get a preview of what we think is going to happen today in the wonderful state of Maryland as far as these midterms go. Any surprises that you see on the horizon or possible surprises. Well, there's gonna be a lot of drama. I think the governor's race which was a bad liner. I don't think it's going to be much of a surprise governor HOGAN getting reelected. So the question of how much, but there's gonna be a lot of drama into the night. You've got a surprisingly close attorney general's race. Where Craig Wolfe is is coming on strong against Brian frosh. You've got a really fascinating three way race for county executive in Montgomery County, which could have that could be the biggest surprise of the night. At Robin sticker finds a way to win that whether the Republicans can get enough pickups in the state Senate to sustain governor Hogan's vetoes with their Republican caucus really break. The democratic monopoly that I think we're gonna be late into the night. Getting those results is going to be plenty of drama tonight. Okay. Greg surprises, I expect Greg. You know, one of the curiosities about Maryland is the extent to which Larry HOGAN. Has coattails. And I know that you know, you've obviously follow this really closely. Your your site is red Maryland, you're following Republican politics in Maryland does he have coattails or his his crossover appeal appeal so unique that you can't really look to his success as an indicator of down. Ballot republicans. Well, I mean that is that is the million dollar question. I think definitely does have coattails. I think that's proven by the fact that you've got every Republican in the state, whatever they're running for has been trying to get his support and a picture with them with governor HOGAN, there's no doubt that he's he's he's extremely popular and very helpful. Even some Democrats have been running on the fact that they support the governor HOGAN and they're going to work with him. So he definitely has some Kotel affects how much obviously governor HOGAN is ultimately going to win. If you look at the polls because of crossover votes from from Democrats how far that goes down ballot or and what races. No one knows for. Sure, I think it definitely will have an effect. But I think look I I said this on a red Maryland radio podcast of the week. I think you're going to be able to count on one hand with fingers leftover Republicans running anywhere in the stage where we're going to outperform the governor. It's just a question of of how close they can come to what he does. And that will determine how big a night isn't a big factor of that. Of course is Republicans getting out to vote today and supporting that part of the turnout the conundrum of the the blue down ticket. And then you have the Larry HOGAN as a very very popular governor in this state. I was asked the question yesterday. Why is Ben jealous doing so poorly in such a solidly blue state? That's the perception is is this was someone from from out of the area. And that's the perception. And they were really puzzled by that. What would be your explanation to that question? Well, we could talk at our about that here. The big points. He's been outspent. You know, he's been out fundraise during the campaign, some something like Canada, one the governor HOGAN came in right after the primary with a spending vantage about twenty five to one something like that. That's a big part of it governor HOGAN came out right away after the primary defining Ben jealous. Negatively in the jealous campaign didn't have the resources or frankly, the ability to fight back on that. They run a terrible campaign jealous as you point out. He's really from here. His his policies are very far left wing that alienates him from a lot of people within his own party. There's a very serious a civil war going on in the Maryland Democratic Party between progressives, and and kind of the establishment conservative moderates, a lot of whom have come over and supported governor HOGAN, it's that bitterness isn't gonna end after today. In fact, it's going to be it's going to deepen be interesting to see how that works out all of those factors worked against Ben jealous. And a lot of Democrats around the state, which he doesn't have a lot of connections with he was never able to unite the party a lot of them openly embraced governor HOGAN, either endorsing him or in close races where you have democratic incumbents talk about you know, Jim Mathias on the eastern shore Francis sitting democratic state Senator has openly said that Ben jealous is bad for the short. He doesn't he doesn't embrace his views when you do that. It's kinda hard to win as governor and places when your own party is saying your bag for for their party. The state so that lack of money a really terribly run campaign have all combined. I automatically make him probably the worst state. Why can't we ever seen in Maryland? Well, and yeah. And of course, that comes as comes as a great relief to Larry HOGAN who looks like he's headed towards keeping his seat in the governorship. Although that's not a done deal. We have to wait till the end of election days, if you like Larry HOGAN, you probably should support them. Greg. I wanna talk about the stakes in Maryland, one of the things that we've talked with the governor about and certainly all Maryland officials and you in the past is redistricting and how important redistricting is in Maryland coming out of this election, laid out for us. It's crucial the way it works. In in Maryland is the set of the governor issues a map redistricting map the legislature has a set period of time to pass an alternative math. If they parents and alternative math, the math that the governor puts out there becomes law. That's really what we've seen in the past. If if the legislature passes, an alternative, and the governor vetos it and that veto is is not overturned, the governor's map becomes law. That's what's at stake here. Now, the push for some bipartisan commission to do this. He's still going to push that if he's reelected, even though he'll have control over this process. So the real battle comes down to who ultimately will have control this process. It's governor HOGAN he has the initial control if his if his vetoes can be sustained then you'll have ultimate control the redistricting process not just for congressional districts, but for state legislative redistricting. Which pretty much any map that isn't drawn as partisan as possible to help the Democrats, which is what we've seen for decades. We'll be more fair, and we'll help Republicans. We'll make the state much more of a competitive two party state. So that's absolutely what's at stake in about ninety seconds. Can you give us a breakdown of the two main ballot questions in Maryland one regarding the lottery video lottery proceeds and the other regarding same devoting same-day registering? And by the way, if you go to read Maryland dot com slash two thousand eighteen election's. We have all your election information for all the even the local questions on the ballot. We give more number one is the lock box for the money for gambling. This is something that governor has supported it's going to pass I think very easily for that money towards education, which was the original intent and selling the idea of gambling, right? The second one is to allow same day registration. We read Maryland are against that. It's it's it's going to be a very questionable is whether that can. Able more fraud or we're talking about people registering to vote on election day, which you can imagine create some problems. So we're against that. But those are basically the two issues on the state questions that'll be on your ballot Maryland a lot of big decisions today to make for Marylanders. Greg client, thanks for helping us lay out the stakes. Appreciate that, sir. Take care. All right, read, Maryland dot com. He throws it end. So I figured I'd throw it in forum. Seven fifteen..

"Wake-up doll walk in the program. Is a Wednesday. Two thousand eighteen coming up on the program today to polls show governor HOGAN, if the election were held today. It would be a landslide. DNB non-citizens are admitting now non-citizens have been registered to vote will they that's the big question. Kevin mccarthy. Introducing a Bill to fully fund the wall. A former FBI attorney says he took the deputy attorney general rod Rosenstein serious when he wanted to wear. George Soros has been linked to thirty major news organizations, the Cavanaugh attacks continue and will for the foreseeable future. People making news today Hillary on civility on the GOP, Colin Powell, ripping the president Malania when he has you sat down for an interview with ABC news. I can't imagine thought this would have been a good idea. We'll take a look at the creepy porn lawyer challenging Donald Trump junior. And Anthony Weiner news this morning and much more. All right. Top story here day these two poles one was released a today job on yesterday. The first polls that Gonzalez poll and both of them show. Nearly insurmountable leads. Now, there's no slam dunk in politics. Anything can happen. There's we're about twenty seven week that's twenty seven days away from the election. In the kansallis research and marketing strategy poll from October first through Saturday. Hogan was ahead of Ben jealous by eighteen points. Fifty four to thirty six. Eight percent undecided. The pollster packing solace wrote Free State voters on the doorstep of reelecting a GOP governor for the first time since many liked Ike. And we all loved Lucy sixty four percent of those surveyed said, they think Maryland is moving in the right direction. Listen to the breakdown HOGAN leads among Republicans ninety one to six unaffiliated. A formerly known as independent voters fifty two to twenty five among men fifty eight to thirty three among women forty nine to thirty eight and white voters sixty five or twenty six the only two categories jealous. Leads in this poll. He leads by twenty points among Democrats and by nearly fifty among the black community, and I should be no surprise. It is somewhat surprising that HOGAN leads in in only twenty. Twenty four jurisdictions as you might imagine jealously jealousies in Prince George's county in Baltimore City, but picks up Charles county. What is going on there? Montgomery county. They are tied. And what's also interesting in the Washington compost poll they've got HOGAN up by twenty points. Similar kind of numbers fifty eight to thirty eight sixty four percent of independence. He's peeling away. Thirty five percent of Democrats. The barrage of Republican governor ads has pushed up jealous unfavorable ratings. They've doubled the thirty two percent since the last poll in June. And so all good news. If you're governor Larry HOGAN, and there's a little bit of a interesting sidelight to the Gonzalez poll in the attorney general race. They've got the looks like Brian frosh might be in a little bit of trouble. They're saying that frosh is a slight uptick and support. There's a big uptick in support for Craig Wolff. Who by the way will be joining us maybe Friday of this week. He he only Charles frosh by nine points. Forty three to thirty four twenty three percent undecided. This racist fluid Frank. So some interesting polls out here in the last couple of days, really, the the polls as far as the the race for governor really doesn't surprise me. In fact, Larry HOGAN has been maintaining this huge difference between his democrat opponent Ben jealous and himself for quite a while now. So it doesn't matter which poll you look out here. It's anywhere from eighteen to twenty points with less than a month ago before the general election. So right now, that's got to make governor HOGAN feel. Confident that he's going to win reelection. And I can't I'm trying to think of the last time. A republican. Might have to go back to Ted mckellan. Republican as won back-to-back elections. In other words, a two term Republican governor. It wasn't Spiro Accu obviously. And it may have been Ted mckelvin ought to look it up. But I was during the Eisenhower years wasn't. It was back in the fifties in the fifties. Smart. So that when you're right because that's what the pollster said that it was during I like, I can when I love Lucy was at the this would be the first Republican to has been a good while ago. We're talking about over fifty years ago. The last time a Republican won back-to-back elections in this state. Again, polls are just snapshots in time. And if the election were held today, it would be a complete absolute route and landslide. I I honestly thought there are some who thought that Ben jealous would give governor HOGAN a difficult race. I've never viewed him as a strong candidate. I think Anthony Brown was probably stronger than than Ben jealous and again too far to the left for many Democrats when you look at the Democrats now supporting again governor HOGAN in in many jurisdictions. So again, I do think I don't think the twenty points or go hold up eighteen or twenty, but it could very well be that twenty seven days from now. Hogan will win by around ten points or so which would be a political landslide. And he's gonna win. Thanks to Democrats and independents that are going to be voting for him. Like did the first time.

"Garbage truck one person was killed and we'll get an update on that from abc as they could minutes and no members of congress were hurt and we'll get an update on that from the abc news timber very quickly they did talk about earned sick leave and the governor said we need to fit we agree on it we need to fix a spell in the democrat in the democratic party statement he'd nor democrats requests for input on legislation to give 700000 marilyn workers access turned sick leave one of the things we can tell you about that government you scoring a victory on that issue because the senate is taking up a bill to delay implementation of the workers who are actively oklahoma small businesses small businesses are really looking at this as saying how would be affected by these everybody in your poll supported workers' sick leave right not everybody military to amadeo and governor hogan worth an overwhelming majority at right so a lot of people support paid sick leave but we asked about a people really didn't distinguish between the governor's plan on the democrats plan which has fifteen versus right fifty rebuttal again that's a moot point absolute not buy this point so it really i think comes up to is like who wins the battle this narrative exhau so governor hogan at the same time the democrats are saying that governor hogan didn't work with them governor hogan has argued that they refused to take up and consider his bill initially and so but little we'll see how that can of shakes out on the ballot box um come november but i think it will be really interesting if the delay does go through on their and our any protections for for small businesses than of that actually get put put in and function which can cut away to abc news and just moments after we come back from the cbc new special port on this accident involving a train carrying republican members of congress want to talk about some of the democrats running some of them that were in the chamber today but who has the most at stake from all this joining us tomorrow badge and richard baker joining us this afternoon turning brett hollander coming up at one thirty but right now at twelve fifty will go to abc news for a special report on the amtrak train accident involving members of congress.

"Lot of i firmly and i think the governor's stolen a march on them with us saying well if there's a problem let's fixate it and you know now they've they go well we're it'd be too we didn't necessarily want to do that so it'll be interesting to see what they did it uh it puts the democrats in the very uncomfortable position of having to recognize that there are things that are right it either there either they agree with uh governor hogan that there are problems at certain marylanders are gonna are going to feel this or it puts him in the position of having to go and defend wealthy marylanders are right because because of a lot of the folks who are impacted by this are folks who make a substantial amount of of of money in their tax structure is going to change i mean it was a as far as tactical strokes go i it was a very smart one on the part of the governor a deserter stake out that ground a in a way that uh that really puts the democrats on their heels yeah absolutely and and the governor has been doing this i mean it's one of the reasons why he spencer success we talked about the democrats being surprised by his win i don't think a lot of them still understand why he's so successful or why he's able to do it look i you and i've been in politics for a long time i've been involved in maryland politics for decades i've never met any body who cats it as well as governor hogan does and he has a lot.

"And governor hogan frank you're saying he's going to submit legislation to protect marylanders from the federal uh tax overhaul and and the reason here is he thinks is holiday gift to the people of maryland that there's going to be all sorts of a revenue coming into the state now the result of this tax overhaul and he wants to make sure that that actually revenue gets sent back to the taxpayers of maryland and doesn't reside in annapolis worthy democrats will plotting scheme of ways to spend that money and we're talking about a huge windfall here too because hundreds of millions of dollars its estimated and of course this is just for one year uh i would imagine that you could say make the same argument in ensuing years as well so with all this added revenue coming in uh to the state it'll be interesting to see if the governor is going to be able to give these way and and return this money or give it back to the taxpayers of maryland or will the greedy a democrats and the legislature decide wait a minute um you know we we we can find ways to spend this money on various and sundry thing now count rocket a heart place the democrats in an election year gubernatorial election year do we acquiescing give the money back to the taxpayers is thus handy governor hogan a significant election year victory to run on or would we deny him that money uh and uh and and to make sure that he doesn't have that that course he could at the democrats you way very interesting dilemma for the democrats were smart move by governor hogan state fifty coming up next it's official the hillary rodham clinton book tour is over and we will mark the occasion as weather turns called a nice grow log.
