"gary sanchez" Discussed on KNBR The Sports Leader

"In honor of the 20th anniversary. I highly recommend everybody if you have the opportunity to check that out. Just another fascinating look behind the scenes of what was going on in the president's war room. What, everybody who was there. And involved involved in it directly now. Back to sports If we may last night you had the first game of the subway Series this weekend. Like we said later on today is going to be the big event out at Citi Field as they honor the 20th anniversary of September 11th last night. It was the Mets and Yankees playing the first game of the Subway Series, with the Yankees reeling and l going in the Mets with the team that had fallen out of it kind of realistically, as far as the playoffs go, losing two of three To the Marlins, somehow not closing out a game against the nationals on Labor Day. So the Mets were the ones that weather or under 500. You figure that the Yankees will maybe get right Against the Mets. And, of course, the complete opposite happened when the Yankees drop. Now there's seventh in a row. They have lost 11 of 13. They lost two of three to Toronto. They get swept by the Blue Jays and now lose the first. To the Mets in and harassing fashion wasn't just they lost the ball game. They got embarrassed. They get up early one, Nothing and then right away in the bottom of the first inning on a play that I'm not so sure I've ever seen before. A normal art base hit to left field. Here comes runner around second, they send them. Joey Gallo, who's playing left field throws a seed to home and they have Jonathan VR. Dead to rights. He was out by a mile. Almost a literal ma. I mean, obviously, it can't be almost a little more. But for exaggeration he was out by that much. It was it wasn't even close and for some reason Gary Sanchez, who is certainly at his issues both offensively and defensively, not just this year for the last several years. For some reason, Gary Sanchez catches the ball Has the ball waits for the runner to come home, and that's how you know that's how long it was. It wasn't bang bang by any stretch. He had to wait for BR to even get to him. Gary Sanchez gets out of the way and allows Jonathan BR to slide into home. Before he tagged him out on the helmet. They called him out. Initially, you have to go replay it and he was safe. I've never seen that before. Don't give me that old laid. Don't warn. And that's what happened. Sanchez gave the old way to a level where I've never seen an L cracking more like El Matador. Calgary El Matador. What is Gary Sanchez thinking? One of many gaps by the Yankees. In where look, the Mets pounded him 10 3, but in reality This is not on. I mean, look, the Mets you give them credit. They won the game. They did some good things can foretell with a couple of base hits and runs Corland door with a home run in VR. As we mentioned he's been great Javi Baez having his impact felt with three hits and driving in a pair McNeil with a couple hits, including a bond single, which is a key spot. Tower. Miguel was pretty good, but really, it's about the Yankees. You know Miguel, who has been struggling as of late after a hot start. He's been struggling as of late. He goes out there and throws seven innings, allowing Just two runs. And struck out 10 Yankees, a career high form is that more about him or more about the Yankees? Adventure to say the latter. And the Yankees. Will Jordan Montgomery got rocked seven hits, seven runs, five of them earn. They also just played hideous defense. Gary Sanchez, You're Shelagh, making the usually short handed Gee or shallow, making another error. This time throwing Uh, glamour, Torres and all. I mean, you know, the Yankees are just asking for it. Laboratories made a bad throat should have been a double playing through the ball. Way over the first baseman's head. Yet again. The Yankees are asking for putting towards a short so you can sit there afterward and say We're going to be fine. We're going to get a turn around. You know, obviously, a poor performance is always the same old stuff with him. But until the Yankees actually decided to change that you can't tell me that they're surprised by Gary Sanchez being a zero Excuse me by Glaber. Torrez Being a zero at shortstop. I mean, you can throw Gary Sanchez in there, too. At home. I mean, you know, catching He hasn't I wouldn't call him a zero but he hasn't been very good. So what do you expect? When on the same stuff continues to happen? What do you expect? At some point you got to realize. Well, they're not going to change. So we need to change it. Form. Move Glaber tour as off of shortstop. I said it for weeks. I mean, how long do we gotta Wait here? What are you waiting for? Get him off of there. He's not a short stop. But Gary Sanchez, the Yankees wanted Joe Girardi out of here because he was too hard on Gary Sanchez. Gary Sanchez has been far far worse since jobs are already left. And a play like he made yesterday with that old lay play, allowing VR to score. Not that that, you know, ruin the game or was the biggest playing the game, but it did a lot of meds to get back into it and tie the game and pick up some momentum there. Right away is the answer back in the first inning sometimes, even though it just seems like one run, and you know, the game clearly got away from the Yankees in that bottom of the third inning. Well, they fell apart and allowed five runs. But if you make that one, nothing lead stick after the Yanks got on the board in the first Have you made that stick for an inning and then Gallo goes out there and it's the home run like he did in the top half of the second inning. Now you're up to nothing. And maybe the momentum starts to build a little bit. But they couldn't even get to that. Gary Sanchez, playing the role of El Matador. Let's VR score tied ballgame, even though Gallo it's the home of the next inning. It's only one run lead, and that lasted to the bottom of the third, where the Mets opened it up. Well, the five spot Would a dreadful performance by the Yankees seven hits two errors, The Yankees again come dangerously close to out error ring their hits. And I just find it remarkable. And frankly unbelievable. We probably used that word all the time. I was unbelievable. That was unbelievable. Well, this to me is truly unbelievable. Where you watch a team in the Yankees that 1 13 in a row and then proceeded to lose 11 of the next 13. What? How can you.

"How many times can you name the yankees How many games can you recall where they had a lead. In the ninth at fenway park recently recent history and lost only recent history. You got this one last night. Three one pretty bad very bad. Twenty seventeen year old is chapman walked the bases-loaded and blew a one run lead and they eventually got walked up. Andrew benintendi remember that very clearly 2016. They blew like a four nothing lead in its anarchist start and hanley. Ramirez walked off with a three run home. Run to dead center field. That happened two thousand eighteen. The three run lead in the ninth mcginlay do it with the throwing error the it and then eventually they got walked off. Of course they did. I mean that's four since two thousand sixteen fairly confident. That's not all of them didn't happen last year. There were no fans. Gary sanchez actually came back. In the ninth against the red sox. That was nice It's at least one a year. It's a kind of lost that should maybe occur in this rivalry once every five or six years

I think <Speech_Male> i think the sticky <Speech_Male> stuff was was <Speech_Male> a massive <Speech_Male> reason. Why <Speech_Male> strikeouts were <Speech_Male> astronomically <Speech_Male> up in the beginning <Speech_Male> of the season jay <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> publicly that <Speech_Male> it certainly did affect. <Speech_Male> Look at his numbers. This number's <Speech_Male> were complete dog. Shit <Speech_Male> he also <Speech_Male> said he <Speech_Male> also said he gave up on <Speech_Male> last season like literally <Speech_Male> he was like. I just wasn't <Speech_Music_Male> mentally. I gave up. <Speech_Music_Male> They <Speech_Male> took away my ipad. <Silence> I gave <Speech_Male> up. It's <Speech_Male> like you don't take <Silence> away. My technology <Speech_Male> a <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> three game series against <Speech_Male> kansas city. Before <Speech_Male> heading to fenway. <Speech_Male> We'll <Speech_Male> obviously talk before <Speech_Male> that series. So <Speech_Male> we'll we'll sort of <Speech_Male> preview the series <Speech_Male> on maybe friday fives <Speech_Male> but i think that's a massive serious <Speech_Male> look forward to like <Speech_Male> i said i'm <Speech_Male> eyeballing these <Speech_Male> these alias <Speech_Male> games more than more <Silence> than these <Speech_Male> out of <Speech_Male> division games you <Speech_Male> have to but again <Speech_Male> the reason why <Speech_Male> these additives <Speech_Male> are important and just winning <Speech_Male> games in general is important <Speech_Male> is because if <Speech_Male> there is a team that's front <Speech_Male> of that's losing you better <Speech_Male> damn well take advantage of <Speech_Male> that <Speech_Male> If you're going to happen. I <Speech_Male> mean if you're going to five hundred <Speech_Male> against these teams. <Speech_Male> You need to <SpeakerChange> win when they <Speech_Male> lose. <Speech_Male> One of franco's <Speech_Male> being called up this is <Speech_Male> a kind of an <Speech_Male> unorthodox moved by <Speech_Male> tampa <Speech_Male> like they <Speech_Male> will usually <Speech_Male> slow play <Speech_Male> to maximize <Speech_Male> value <Speech_Male> for their prospects but <Speech_Male> they might be seeing <Speech_Male> their season starting <Speech_Male> to slip and <Speech_Male> then they're doing something <Speech_Male> in order to turn <Speech_Male> that around <SpeakerChange> by calling <Speech_Male> up franko <Speech_Music_Male> i also <Speech_Male> think he's he's <Speech_Male> the <Speech_Male> world player. <Speech_Male> Yeah number one <Speech_Male> prospect in baseball <Speech_Male> kids. <Speech_Male> I saw this <Speech_Male> comment i was. I remember <Speech_Male> doing a preview at the <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> guy in tampa. <Speech_Music_Male> And <Speech_Male> i think i'm <Speech_Male> perfect on my <Speech_Male> prediction for tampa. He was <Speech_Male> very wrong. <Speech_Male> Never see peralta <Speech_Male> this year. Never see <Speech_Male> the kid. That's <Speech_Male> that's up your pitching <Speech_Male> the prospect. That came <Speech_Male> over both <Speech_Music_Male> fulton play <Speech_Male> good. So you're <Speech_Male> good at making tampa bay <Speech_Male> rays predictions but <Speech_Male> number could about making. <Speech_Male> I'm a. I'm <Speech_Music_Male> good at making the ones <Speech_Music_Male> that come against <Speech_Music_Male> the yankees like that's something <Speech_Male> bishop up for sure. <Speech_Male> Tampa bay rays. <Speech_Male> Get rid of export. <Speech_Male> It doesn't matter. <Speech_Male> There's go plug in the next <Speech_Male> guy which <Speech_Male> i said <Speech_Male> that might fourtou have like <Speech_Male> a pinch. Hit go ahead <Speech_Music_Male> double against the yankees <Speech_Music_Male> at some point this season. <Speech_Male> Probably it'd <Speech_Male> be later in the season. "It's red and dreamed and blue purple starter. They're letting him go deeper into games at is. It was surprising but now over his last five games. He's only averaged for under five innings. A start and that's just putting more pressure he's given up seven home runs in five starts so during our hormone has kind of come back down to earth a little bit and He had been on such good run. So it's one of these things like we were kind of all expecting it. Well also we've. We've seen her mind be really good in you. Know months a two-month spurs he's been he's been that guy but he's also a guy just hasn't had a ton of work load in a long time so i'm sure there's some there's some fatigue here he's got almost hit another gear to get into The rest of the season so would it. Would it surprise you if we saw tired arm. Ten ten ten day. I l stint for d'amico her mind so that he could get his body going again. Just rest rusty arm and then see where they land. We're not super. Nothing would surprise me tired arm. Tired arm is the easiest thing for pitcher because the dead arm business that are that are what are you do. There's nothing to say. there's nothing to see. That was always the allston joke when starting pitcher was struggling. It's like he's got a dead arm. He's gonna miss two starts like mental reset visits those cl- classic in the mid two thousand and the fact that the fact that they could go for a. Let me ask you a question. Do you think that any sticky bowl stuff has something to do with carmont. Struggles specifically binger. Hermann yeah i mean it's definitely release that guy this guy guy this guy. I don't think it's this guy that guy thinking in general offense has been up the last couple of weeks directly correlated. Yeah it's direct runs per game or up since the sticky stuff has been talked about took a direct correlation to why i know what you want to say. No you go get identify who you who you think was affected by its. I think everyone's getting affected. Because i think we learn the more we learn about. The sticky stuff is that it was it was throughout the league. it wasn't us slated to one one or a few guys. It was the entire league using some form of sticky substances. Maybe some guys just preferred the rosin sunscreen or the pine tar and sunscreen like tyler. Glass lied about. Or maybe some guys. We're using the trevor bauer stuff. That was sticking to the palm of his hand that he posted on instagram. Like i i. Don't i don't know what they were using. But they were all using something. Yes so we'll see there's a there's going to be a It's now the pitchers to figure out in the middle of the season. I didn't get to talk about the glass now coming out from last week i feel like i still have. I still have things to say you wanna do. I think that when you're when you're going back and i was. I was listening to the interviews and you see the headlines on what he said. You're like oh come on. What are you doing but then when you go go back and listen to the entire interview and listen to the context of everything not just what the headlines grab from that he's i i don't think he's necessarily blaming it. He's just using he's telling you the whole situation and what happened and then the fact is that he. He stopped after he stopped using it. Things were changed. I understand to a point. The mean the crux of the situation is that this happened. Because i can't you know that's not really what he was saying. He was saying. I had to change my grip and some of the way that was pitchy because it wasn't the and because of that i had fatigue and then and then all of a sudden went so endo facto. You know there was my my now. My elbow is now shattered for because the sticky stuff was not given. I was not able to use it. So i understand what they're saying. They've been able to use this for however long whatever substance he was. Talking about Rosen and scroll frogs sunscreen which has been used for ever forever and the fact that they give you a rising bag out there. I mean there's the whole clay buchholz thing putting it in his hair. Lathering at oliver's body the rosins already out there so they just do a little mixture and then rub their hands and now you have that now you have it. You're good and you could get a better grip on the ball. you can. You can feel it with your figures a little bit more. And the reason they're complaining about it is because the balls come out so slick. There's never been a problem with guys. Scuffing a ball up a little bit. They want a new ball. They like it. They don't want like when the umpires are changing in and out because you get a new ball it is slick. I understand that. There's a working of the ball so that you could get to a comfort point. It's when you start adding those other elements. I understand what they're saying. I do because it's been fine. Everybody's been it's been accepted for so long. Oh i hate the argument that that this is when people say this has been around forever known aroun- despite attack has not been around for. It's not spider tech is just one of the things that's coming out though. Okay but time the bullfrog and the rosin and now even so i don't think so bullfrog and rosin and pine tar use has been around forever and we've never had a problem. So why are we having a problem now. It's because they weren't just using bullfrog in rods. I understand that a lot of using. Yes of course. Something else and tyler glass now whether you believe them or not or garrett cole or on everyone say mcgarrigle flat out said that he used it right so i don't. I don't see a picture. I don't believe tyler glass. Now that he only used the bullfrog and rosin. I don't. I don't believe him when i when i was watching him. Talk about it. It just it's either way whether you were you. Were not what whether you believe them or you don't act like they were telling the truth for a second here and if it was us even that anymore so that that's why it's a pro. It's why you see league-wide more spread. Because not i don't know what percentage of guys are using something like spider attack or you know something that gives you that that that type of grip or how many other guys were just using enough to get a little bit of a grip on the ball so that it's they control and it's not this slick baseball. I don't know what the percentage of the extreme users the guy take advantage of it and then the guys who were just like living within the parameters of what's been okay for a long time. Those are two different stories for me. I asked but the reason why you have the extreme. Why we have the the the the baseball came down on. This is because of the extreme. It's always happens. It's the guys that ticket to the next limit. The guys that that always look those are always the and that's always going to. That's what i talked with. Jeff bloom and david tuttle about to former players and they. Their argument was baseball. Always has this problem. They need to just create a substance that is legal for pitchers to us. And thank you but my answer to them was. Why do you trust that players won't push that envelope because they wish every envelope they'll always gonna no matter what so we're just going to be back here to square one but know what this is is at least that would be baseball saying we acknowledged we understand you empathy empathy. I but what good does that. I walk us. This is like the the the sales approach for everything salesperson empathy. I overcome the barrier. And then you're giving them something. That is a compromise. So you think that what you do is you cut down. You're trying to say okay. You guys are using that. We're not going to give you that because that's way too big advantage entirely too much. But i assure you that the baseball's lick they when they come out because they are forever people been scuffing them up making sure that there's dirt on you do it in little league spit on your hand. You do what you can't get a grip on the ball. That's major league baseball everywhere forever. Always and even when you're in the field of playing softball i'm spitting on my glove. Data a little bit of tackiness. Because when you have dirt and slick leather. That shit is slippery. It gets slippery. So you're making a compromise. Understanding is this is the nature of what it is. You play in dirt. And that's leather combined swick slippery slippery stuff. Nobody wants to get drilled in the head with one hundred dollars fastball. Get grip so you compromised. You make substance that is workable and you police it from there and that's what you can do at least you're finding a middle ground so that hopefully some of these guys that go the extremes understand. There's something that able to use the allows me to get a grip. Maybe it's not as much of a grip as what i would normally use. But at least there's something there's a compromise now. You have harsh harsh penalties for people that go above and beyond and take advantage of it. You can police this..

"We if gary is going well gotta go and now we see some offensive output. But yeah he's he's he's playing. Well third at the yankees. That's a very good sign for this yankees or short at these third for reason if third hold on let me let me rephrase that these third based on the numbers that he's putting up showing that he should be batting third. Not we've seen we've seen roof at or door hit third for the so. It's not always indicative. Is what i'm saying but for the season he's got an eight twenty oh. Ps we also all signed up for eight twenty pm. June for gary sanchez on the season. So yeah i know the the games are looking great but even for the season he's got respectable numbers right and i think that's what we've seen with him even when when the test is telling you the gary sanchez is not doing well. The production numbers seemingly are there that he he doesn't often these other these other opportunities. the whole runs. Our numbers have been there. Yes the homeless. But we even talked about at i. I've talked about this rela. But you and i talked about this. The at bats gary sanchez in the first month of the season even though the numbers were not there the at bats looked better whereas last year yeah he had like i think he had ten home runs in the shortened season. But if he wasn't hitting a home run it was a noncompetitive at-bat completely embarrassing to look at and that's not what we've seen this year. So the numbers. I think are starting to catch up to what the is what. My eyes were telling me watching him at the plate. Early season when you're talking about it. It did not look like the gary sanchez of last year. It just didn't look like the same guy. He had a better approach. Not flailing pitches But it's clicking for him right now. So i'm gonna live in the moment and love it now. The question is when are you gonna start catching garrett cole. Well that's your question. i think. That's that's your questions this week i. If you if you have a guy going like this you you need to do it. As you guys had a precedent you got to set the tone understanding that. You're not taking this guy out of the lineup. With the way that he's hitting and that garrett cole higgins relationship well you respect it working relationship great fine. Do you need to be able to work with the other guy considering this guy. This is exactly the moment exactly the time when. You can't take gary sanchez out. You need to work. you need to work. Yes he's going to need an off day but switch it up so that they can begin to build this canes begin to build this relationship so that later in the season it does not become an issue when all of a sudden garrett cole you need to win the game and you have a tough left handed pitcher coming up and you need gary said just in the lineup. You can't have that be a problem and you can't have him sitting and you can't. You can't have him at d. h. as a workaround for that either he should be in the lineup. Because then you have your out or own zach guy who should be in the lineup as well. It's just not smart to d. h. Your catcher when you've got when you've got because then you only have two catchers have one guy goes down it's just it's just not smart. It's it's asking for a disaster to happen yet darren. Boone was not even an error. Boone thing though. That's any manager knows not to do that of just listen. Carried three catches. What's kratz doing these days. I know he's the seasons of the season. That's probably what's going to happen. You'll you'll you'll see three catches on there. So that gary. He gets on on days where he's not catching so would not surprise me. The end of the season that that's happening but again this all of this is about the whole personal catcher. Situation is all about for me for me at least not being not having to sit a guy because there's no relationship there's working history when you come to the end of the season at the moments that matter the absolute most if you don't have the ability to play who who needs to play then that's a problem and that is something that's avoidable also with the way the season is looking it. Looks like they're gonna be playing a one game. Playoff with garret cullen amount. I want gary sanchez. His bat in the lineup. I don't want hickeys bat in the lineup on that one. No figure it out figure out the reason. Why just figured out you got that. If he's going well of course you need that back in the lineup. So it's it's it's really it's really just plain and simple. It's very very easy. So you buy the resurgence. It sounds like you're buying the resurgence. I am when i when i see them. Go and take three from toronto. And then and then a triple play to come out of the oakland series to win two three unbelieving loving. I'm not talking about the team. I'm talking about gary specifically because this is the best looked. This is exactly what i said. Okay as gary goes. This team goes is the best. Gary sanchez is looked for this amount of time since two thousand seventeen it's been about one hundred and twenty plate appearances. That looked really good. That's not a massive sample but it's also not tiny. You've got over one hundred plate appearances you've got almost a month of baseball. That he's been their best offensive player and judge went to a little bit of a mini a mini slump and guarantees looking much. Better now yet. But gary sanchez is the one who really picked it up. And he had the go ahead double to right center field on sunday. Like like the everything about his approach at the pre the plate right now. That was two. We had called out early in the season. When you see gary sanchez hidden hidden singles to right field. Even if you're not seen the numbers where they need to be you could tell that. His approach is just different. Like those are the things i remember. Tweeting it up in probably may when we saw there was an app at where he he took a ball to the right side. Basit like that is exactly the thing that this guy should be doing when he's when he's hitting the ball the opposite way and with power. He's going he's right that he is in the right spot. So so yeah that's a. That's a really.

"Strikes out. looking yankee. Third base coach. Phil nevin was irate. Got thrown out either way. We go to extras tied at four top. Ten at fluey sesa during the pitching and a three to count. That's called the ball. And gary sanchez can't believe it. The yankees are frustrated. And then they would like this. Even last two onto that zander bogart's a basic both run score and the red sox winning six four completing the sweep again. It's the first time. The red sox walk into yankee stadium and leave with a sweep in a decade prior to this series. Boston lost eleven straight away games against the bombers. Moreover the red sox have now won five straight extra inning games at yankee stadium. We'll talk more about that later. Meanwhile now let's talk about this. Tomorrow is a significant day. In the development of the aaron rodgers sodden it is the first of three consecutive days of packers mandatory minicamp in his monthly column. Packers president. Mark murphy at this to say regarding the impact of the predicament. Quote the situation. We face with aaron rodgers has divided our fan base the emails and letters that i received reflect. This fact is. I wrote here last month. We remain committed to resolving things with aaron wanting to be our quarterback in twenty twenty one and beyond working to resolve the situation and realize that the less votes sides say publicly. The better you said that again. Dominic foxworth in his monthly column. So what question media jumps to your mind. A why the hell is mark. Berkeley a monthly column. Like who cares. "I think the whole world knows why he was benched. It's pretty much self awareness at this. At that point you had a horrible year on both sides of the ball. You lost your job in the most important time of the season. Which is october baseball. Not sure if there's an explanation necessary your place speaks for itself and you either play well enough to keep playing or you don't whether you were told directly i'm not saying he wasn't not saying he was. I don't really care. I am ben. Taylor like it is cash. I mean diadem at the end of the day. He's he's absolutely right. He didn't play well he didn't play. That's what happened. Airborne was talking about it this past week and he acknowledged that there was not this preemptive This premeditated decision to not start gary sanchez. In certain times. He said that it was it was a day to day thing. They were looking to see who was playing well and who wasn't and they were making these decisions more on the fly than than what people thought. And that was what aaron boone said. But what i'm seeing from cashman here is like yeah of course light a fire under this guy's ass. I'm not gonna cleaning. That's how it's gonna do you think that this is going to light a fire under no. I think it doesn't matter. Nothing matters what has said nothing everything that is going to happen on on the field with gary. Sanchez is going to be because of gary sanchez. It doesn't matter what anybody says everybody's already said everything in anything. He just has to figure it out between his ears. Make that make this. Whatever the improvements yes to do and go out there and play his game and that was shut everybody up the these. This is almost a moment of whatever the next level of candidness for brian cashman leaky. He's had his moments of of being candid. But this is almost like a. He blacked out for a second and just said exactly what he was thinking. Kind of moment this but this is also very evident for me that this is it like you need to figure it out and probably not late in the season. Either you can figure it out first half of the year. If you're not that guy then you know we're we're going to that. That's where i could see. A potential move being made the at the deadline is is Bringing in someone that you know maybe some familiarity with some of these guys are whatever has the ability to make a transition Soon like a good transition. Well would not surprise me. If that was the case but again man like if gary gary walks out and starts playing well and plays up to his expectations and has a good approach mentally which i think is very important for him he could become an all star. He could be an all star next year. Wouldn't surprise either that no it wouldn't but i think what these comments show is that brian cashman's fed up with the situation is and this is probably as last year with the team right. That's what i'm saying. Oh i don't know about good. Good i disagree. I think if he comes out and plays very well. Then then we're timing. These are fed up this is. I am fed up with that question. I'm fed up with that player. I'm fed up with all this talk about it kind of kind of moves and and i kind of comments. I don't i these comments. I just true. There's nothing i know. There's inflammatory about them or nothing. That's embellished in any way. Why do you. They've re they gave gary his arbitration money. Because there's more value giving him that than than anything pure value thing. It wasn't about that we still believe in. The player wasn't about any of that. It was this is the best value for our roster in two thousand twenty one. And we're just gonna move on after that. Look your yes could he. Could he win. An mvp could hit two seventy five with thirty five home runs and play all star level defense behind the plate. Yes because he's that talented and in that case will then you just cannot move on from him because it's too good but if he just turns into a pretty good player again i think they could easily move on and i think that's probably what they want to go. You're right to this point. He would have to have a phenomenal year for them to to make a different decision in that way. Because there's going to be a contract involved. There's going to be a term involved. He's going to be a commitment involved. And you've got to feel really good about that commitment at this point and and there's been so much on uncertainty on in his play and and inconsistency with the way that the seasons have gone that it's going to be very difficult even look at one really good year and and believe that that's going to be the norm moving forward as well. 'cause you'd be doing you'd be giving him a contract based on a really good two thousand seventeen and a really good two thousand twenty one. Those are very fond. Will i mean it would be an pure god given abilities like. We know that it's there if he if you if he can book if he can go in right now and and put a performance that's on par or close or whatever just shows that these got that same ability then. It's really hard to deny that. The talents there that when you're when there's a big gap in between that all i know. Is that if gary sanchez gets benched again. In two thousand twenty one. There's not going to be any Sit down conversation with minnows. Quired at the middle of the in the middle of the season to play the catching position. That's what's going to happen..

"This is. This is more to the point why. I didn't want brett gardner. Not that i didn't want record this team. I like brett gardner yada yada gotta throw in. But couldn't frazier deserves to be the starting left fielder for the new york. Yankees and brian cashman essentially said well if he doesn't say that it brings in the ambiguity. Whether it's gardner whomever it is. It doesn't matter who it is. They need to say that because because honestly the way that he did rebound the way that he came back from off the field stuff just like you know he was. He was vilified by by the media. Essentially he did some dumb things but he certainly took steps in becoming much better baseball player. A hell of i mean. He was in the running for a defensive a a gold glove last year. Kogo crazy so he. He went one eighty defense with way that people think about him and you know he just handled himself very well and he and he played well so you. He deserves the job not to mention. He's a young guy coming up who's got all the ability to get better. He needs the reps as well so that he can find himself what he's truly going to be as he's getting into the peak years of his career a guy like brickner should never be in the way of that ever whether it's in your mind or or physically on the field. Did you should not be that way. I think that brett gardner is going to be more to the point of like for some reason you thought the mayhew was going to drag on to- spring training brett gardner. This is set up beautifully for that. Brek owners not gonna get a job anywhere else. He's going to either go with the yankees or he's just gonna you know not retire probably but not sign and he's going to be on the farm for the entire year or he's going to be ready for the yankees to call him in the middle of spring training and say let's go and it's going to be for the minimum and he's gonna come in and play a role you think he'll play for them and i've heard it'll be i'm sure they'll they'll make some little the fluffy deal to that'll be that'll be That'll look better it will. It won't be insulting and it will stay under the make sure that everybody's in good position with the The finances but they just don't need to get it done right now. I don't think why do you think he wouldn't get a job anywhere. I could see both a raise or the blue jays giving him a caucus guys like gardner right now are just. They're not. Nobody wants to pay a guy like this anything. They'd rather give it to get up paying over your so that would do for your organization. I don't see. I mean maybe he will. Maybe i'm wrong here. But i i think that the way that we've seen baseball trending and the way that money has not gone to these Middling veteran guys. They just haven't been getting contracts like at all. There have been guys sitting out because they're not getting the interest anywhere. The teams are rather put a younger guy in there and see if they can build some built some equity with a young guy. That's overplaying what he's the what they're paying for them and at least there's some upside there. There's upside for brett gardner for another team. No you wouldn't be doing it for years of battling a bad week. He's going to be nobody. What is going on the team anymore. Yeah and i guess like wh who was it David doll knee. Get like two and a half million bumped up. Yeah exactly so. I just don't see the more upside guy. He's more upside is younger than gardner. He's a at this. Point is a better player than gardner. Gardner has more leash as a new york yankee more more value as a new york yankee than anywhere else. I certainly argue. So yeah. that's still the case. Obviously okay so so. Maybe you're right. Maybe maybe a tenth we hear. Oh brett gardner came in to yankees camp. He signed he signed for the minimum or he signed for a million bucks. Surprise me. Rosins surprise me. Gardner was a camp like unsigned and he's just like coming in work. And you just shows up in the park and then it's just assume that that's going to happen. Potentially and he's gonna be but they're gonna. They're making it very clear right now. They're making sure that the media understands this all the fans understand what's happening is that so you know cashman saying we liked the roster here the way it's going right now. I could see us walking into the season like this clinton guy all the positive things about him all the support right there and then if if gardner does come on and afterthought it's a it's a depth peace and you know what i'm fine with brett gardner if he's the fifth outfielder. I'm totally fine with that. My problem if brett gardner is resigned then unfortunately because his name is brett gardner and he's been here for twelve years for whatever reason he's going to get more playing time than he deserves. That could still happen. Even even everything. I just said happens is well because once you get into the season and you're on the you're in the clubhouse in the dugout you know aaron boone. Looks around. he sees his guys brecher inserts. Getting getting hot. You know pulling some matt holliday Getting swollen and hidden bombs into into right field. Never know i. But i think there are anointing right now. Could frazier is the starting left fielder which key deserves and good for him. And the doozy comments. Brian cashman amid were about gary sanchez. And the fact that he did that. Espn interview about a month ago. Saying that the yankees never talked to me about why why. I was benched. Brian cashman fires back with..

"Understand what it's called. It doesn't matter because this gets back to the point of communication. They haven't even told gary sanchez. You're no longer catching garrett cole. It's just sort of a thing that oh guess what you just happen to not be on the lineup again today. So there's no navy. Three raiding gary hittings. They can start acclimating him back in there for him to be maybe a guy with intel him that tell him that say were going with coal. We're going hagey catching coal. Because they work well together and since you're not performing at the plate or not really losing anything so you just need to get back to being you offensively. And then you'll start to get the responsibilities back a clear communication there. I understand that gary sanchez. ultimately the blame falls to him because he didn't perform. But i think the yankees have mishandled gary sanchez time. After time over the past few years and this is just another example of them mishandling him. Look that's fair the fair Talking about the communication but at the end of the day the player is the one who can stand up and say hey. Why are you not communicating to me. The players the one that's being affected. Gary sanchez is the one. That's being affected. These things are are happening because of other did it. After the season of that's too late it's too late like problem. But i will keep going. Do not see that as a problem as a catcher being the starting catcher which is a leadership position whether you want it to be. I see i definitely say that as a problem and i think gary sanchez unfortunately is a guy that is his best self he he probably goes into a shell when he's not performing well taco. Then he comes out of it. That's not good. I agree but he comes out of his shell when he is performing well and he becomes a team leader when he is when things are going well for him then he can yet your shapiro. Gross donald leaders leaders there on the field period whether they're upper down. There's they keep that that that that combat cadence that's you know that remains very steady..

Stamped it out Lafayette going on as normal You can come and go as you please do whatever you want. There's no real restrictions I guess you can't travel overseas but my question to you is. You've been lucky enough to travel around the world inspire me a little bit. Put a place on my bucket list. Where should i go once. This travel stuff kind of comes to an end. Is somewhere that sticks out in your lunch. Oh my gosh. that's a great question so for me i have. You been to greece No but i do know my. Mrs has in in plenty of people that are around. He had absolutely right about. Oh as awesome. Mickey knows e. Oh santa reading. Probably you wouldn't want he owes. I went when i was in my twenties to. And that's that's not a place to go right now. So that's where. I'm going to go there next youthful. Maybe we can make me. I love it. I love it. Hey what's skill that you're working on right now that you haven't quite mastered oh that's a great question. So in my younger years. I was the world champion in racquet ball. That was my sport. The way that was my thing and and so i stopped playing and i switched to squash completely different. You get ever master squash and you know what's so challenging about it is in racquetball. The better you've got the better you get the shorter. The points are squash the better. You get a longer. The points are the opposite is like our productive. You hit the ball against the wall and bounces really hard. Squash ball doesn't bounce so hard no and then you have a long rackets smaller court and slower ball so you can get everything the better you get so you can have one point. That's one hundred shots crazy. Yeah so you've got to be in good shape so i- mastering trying to get in better shape so i can be a better squash player. I love it. I love it or i lost one. What's the opt in thirty two years of business. What's.

"But if Tanakh is out there in a four run game at eighty seven pitches, you probably don't pull him but no matter what it seemed like the last couple of years the Yankees would pull their starter at at that point right but in. But in a one run games, sometimes you gotta pull him. Sometimes, it just doesn't work out sometimes. Given release for situations lead and it doesn't give a baseball situation in a in a particular matchup. Okay. I'm fine with that that that's that's that's kind bucking what we're talking about as far as that's the exception. For overall strategy is you know that they would pull him that's the strategy. If a given situation called for something else and though and everything lined up beautifully, and you know it was it was the ideal scenario they would keep him in but that just didn't happen very often. So you said a a switch was flipped and it was kind of flipped when afoot to me a switches flip on and off like a circuit on and off. To me this was like a dial you know the digger at twenty, five percent up to like fifty per they. They turn the novel a little bit so that strategy was tweaked. Yeah, I think they probably the the nerd department probably had a formula that said on when each pitcher reaches this number of innings under their belt than you can start turning the KNOB and extra five percent ten percent seriously I think I think that the KNOB was. The KNOB was guarded by NERD. Someone else. Give a backhand to the nerds flap the nerd across the room and turn the dial. That's what I think. Okay Well Adami way turning the dial I. that's I think Phil Nevin walked into the walked into the room. Busted some people up and turn the damn now dial that's what I think. I think that with the nerd see Phil Nevin coming into the room ready to give them wedgies. They all have a panic attack and it's like someone press someone presses a red button and it just locks down the room. So Phil Nevin can't kick the door down just give swirlies to all the nerds. Phil Neville. Nightmare yes. Yes That's how the got turned in my in my mind. I on the offense I, it was. It was a little frustrating that the Yankees scored all those runs and then went to fenway and seem seem to forget how to hit for that Friday night game but they did come back Gary Sanchez I test versus nerd tests will be about Gary Sanchez Yeah we need to talk about him. You WanNa do I versus tests right now, we can talk about Gary Sanchez. The nervous back in and or. Have Bruce Confidence from Phil Nevin. Let's talk about them. So we would. You agree that Gary Inches looks a lot better at the plate recently. Yes, I will agree. So he had a huge night Friday night. He had the double in the seventh inning to get them close, and then he had the game tying home run in the ninth inning missile over over the green monster to tie the game. Probably the the most the biggest hits of his season I guess you could say the Grand Slam off of the mets and extra innings. But as you so aptly pointed out, he got three batting practice fastballs and finally connected on right That was hit. So his stats, the the NERD test back it up Gary Sanchez looks a lot better at the plate. So gimme a second to go through some of these numbers from the start of the season in July through September seventh I know I'm just picking an arbitrary date but through September seventh yet one, hundred, fourteen plate appearances cleared thirteen hits. To thirteen hits. How many walk in that time? Yeah. I mean he had a nine point, six percent walk rate, which has a walk rate isn't isn't the worst in the world but forty two percent k rate, which is astronomical. He was hitting one thirty, his WRC plus was sixty his weighted on base average was to fifty there. There's no numbers in here even as slugging percentage was terrible three fifty, I know he hit seven home runs out of thirteen hits but he didn't get any hits really. So just terrible numbers all the way around. He was trying to pull the ball so much he was pulling the ball fifty seven percent of the time. His hard hit contact was only thirty, six percent. He had nineteen percent soft contact, forty, four, percent museum contact. Going through some of these other numbers like just just terrible terrible numbers all the way around. But then in his last forty, four plate appearances since September seventh. He is he is hitting two. Oh, five th not really that much better. But he a one, sixteen WRC plus his strikeout percentage is down to twenty two percent, which shows me better at bats his exit velocity. Is actually still about the same. But when you're not striking out that means pitch recognition is better his. His hard hit percentage is up to fifty five percent up from thirty, six percent. So I just see a lot of things like still not fantastic still not peak Gary Sanchez. But a lot of these things look way better from an approach perspective from a comfort level from from everything level. And hopefully, hopefully, they continue to rise because it does I mean. This team is better when Gary Sanchez is playing and playing well, not not just playing playing well, when Gary Sanchez is showing the player that he can be yet the team is better. It's just it's been a very long time since this guy has shown in a consistent manner and forty four plate appearances when we're looking at the numbers while while better, they were coming from complete dog shit and you look at the the the better numbers and them in isolate them and you're looking at. You're looking at just those numbers like Tom Gary Sanchez was struggling in those forty four plate appearances. Compared to what he was doing. Improvement, but that's the thing like you look at what he what he has been, and then you look at those forty-four Damn. He's been struggling like what's going on with Gary Sanchez but still even though he's only hitting two five in those forty, four plate appearances one, sixteen WRC plus sixteen percent better than league average the the pay to strike out the strikeout percentage is one thing. That pops out to me when I'm looking at these numbers that you pulled is the opposite is Otto percentage. The poll percentage is about the same from the the one, hundred and forty, one, hundred and fourteen plate appearances at fifty-seven percent in the last forty four is poll percentage of fifty, five percent. So they're pretty close but the one to the big difference here is otto percentage from seventeen percent up to twenty, almost twenty percent, and that means he is recognizing those those pictures out you know over the plate or on the other side of the plate and now. He's not waving at them, but he's actually putting the ball putting the bat on the ball and you know putting those either into the stand in right field or he's actually been getting some base hits. You know going with the pitch actually recognition picking it up and and going the other way, and you see that approach with a lot of the Yankees..

"You wanna or Gary Sanchez knower loop void I mean they got a friggin football team as a base yeah I know and that's the upside of the people of the home run but it's just to me it's just it's just too much now it's across the game too many runs too many instead of a special nature out of it I've only take that street when you take a look at Kristen yell at each you don't see PVD that it does not scream people you mean evil Alonso he doesn't lie isn't a steroid guy was a regular guy looks like an old school like eighty slaughters what he looks like he doesn't look like a big jam doc type well dollars more in shape than John Kruk right but I mean he he just like I get all the good old school you know just regular big baseball player he does not look overly muscular or there is obviously something it's the ball off the bat the players will Major League Baseball had a major emphasis on trying to get more popularity in this game to younger people in there trying to grow it and all of that so I think today there might be something there that they have altered to make more offense in more home right and but don't you think that if that were a conscious decision they came out of the major league offices don't you think by now that would have been openly discussed by somebody now I don't because then it's a bit opens up a whole can of worms because then the Players Association the pictures like you're saying they're going to get past it's not something I don't know well there is there is obvious there is an obvious trend that has taken over this year and the numbers speak to it yeah I'd love to candidly talk to a picture this year about the grip on the baseball on how it feels differently and what they think is going on because when they tiptoe around it they they talk about a little bit but it's always the not dipping their toe in the water and then they back off because they're afraid of it I love to really know what they say you watch a guy like Mack shores of those doesn't seem to bother him right well the best of the best figure out a way around it that's for sure but I mean it's it's but not everybody is the best the best and then you know even guys like Jake of the crimes have in it you know it's turned around little bit but still beginning of his your hasn't been great but then you get a guy who was like a lower caliber barely in the major leagues like a Brooks pounders or whatever you throw him out there with new baseballs and the guys getting murdered self it's just the whole trickle down effect it is over in geo on the fan CBS sports network.

"Gary Sanchez today, he is not in the lineup which, I don't love because if I've got I've got the D H that's the one of the perks of it. Yeah, I always envisioned that if the Mets are in the American League with Mike Piazza played every single day with the it's basically off every, but obviously doesn't look at it that way. Gary Sanchez Lamaze. You is leading off at second. Luke void is gonna get to Kendra Morales who's done very little of than that one home run is about third and play first base glaciers cleaning up brick Carter's batting fifth Clint Frazier, six geo. Your shell seven Cameron may been eight Austin remind nine that's the line up against many Machado Paxton pitching. And Paxton returns from the injured list. We'll see how he looks. We'll see if that need bothers him at all. Let's go to hey, Seuss in Elizabeth. Hey, pesos. What's going on guys? Love the show. Thank you. The I think the idea is phenomenal idea. But I think the problem with Evan. The first of all take because if I'm a team that is a really, really good team. I'm a playoff team. And I said, you know what I'm confident that if I get into the tournament smash all those other guys, I'm gonna tank myself. I'm gonna take to become part of the tournament that I can myself go ahead and, and smash everybody Nonni destroy the twenty. But hang I. You playing with fire though, because you got to win those five games against the whether you playing its a single elimination deal you could lose you, you tempting fate with that, you know what I mean. Of course, you know, it's not it's not such easily going gonna walk through it his ornament. And that's the end of it. I think you playing with Fino wound happen. There are things about your e and say, boy, wouldn't it be amazing. If the warriors did that, but they're not going to. That's right. You're not gonna do that. No one is going to take a sixty game regular season. Seventy whatever it is. And say okay, we're going to actively lose enough games to miss the real playoffs. Right. So we get into a tournament and as you said play with fire, it's a one game crapshoot, and you've got to win five games. And there's no guarantee you're doing only debate that would occur. Here's what would happen, and I think my teams are good example of it the network of playoff race to make the playoffs. I could've seen with a month to go you breaking down. Hey, do I want the nets to not make? All right. So I can go battle it out. Get the number what get everything. I could see that. I could see a fair thinking again it's still a risk. Of course you still be still risky. But that's why you wouldn't see a real good team. Do it because it's too much of a risk that you even if you have home court throughout all five of those games, it's still too rigid way too risky. Then I don't think he's pulling that off. That's not gonna hide routine is not going to do that. Agree Jerry in Piscataway, Sherri, how are you? Hey, what's going on guys? Get a job. He again what's up before? Story that read sometimes I myself, could you imagine if this happened in New York, have you guys talked about this whole bend over thing about him taking a leave of absence with the divorce that's going on? I mean he filed for separation twenty six games this year and disappear. He may not come back read about an hour ago that Cup teammates think we not team again this he filed for divorce and because of the voice, he's not playing baseball. Yeah. Joe with I thought this happened to in the Mets, you, of course, what are you talking about? Like he's the only about the voice. Well, here's what I went to my voice wasn't working. Right. The lawyer. What about so Julianna zobrist filed for divorce? It was she did. Okay. And I guess they bolted it was, it was a joint divorce, but basically she cheated on. Can't. So he's like he's like, he can't deal with that. They can't play baseball. I don't know what he's thinking. But basically took a leave of absence from the team about three weeks ago and it's been revealed that he was dealing with a personal issue. And it's a separation from his wife down in Tennessee. Okay. Juliana is accused of guilty of inappropriate marital conduct. Okay, according to the Tennessee, and the newspaper down there. So that's what it's about what would happen. If this was New York here. I'd be that'd be delirious. What are you talking about? And I was saying, is to say is the Ben, I would say this guy, you know what if that's the case, there's a seven million girls out there. That's, that's what I would say. Yeah. Okay. Upset and you know, I love my wife, she's okay great. All right. But that's not going to prevent me from continuing on in my career in my life. What are you talking about? No. In the thing that goes forgotten. This is there are so many players. We don't even know the personal issues. They're doing with, of course. And we never find out right guys at a plane every day, something that's really, really a some maybe, there's a major illness in the family, something that's really, really, really major the one that jumps out of me. Even more than Brett farve. Because that's one that jumps out this fall. Thomas to the Celtics, his sister gut, right? Right. Right. You still play any plano. And those are the ones we know. Right. And there are a lot. I tell you when oil came boy, called up the radio station because the whole around Arlington thing that I was attached to him explaining, how that day, forget the accusations against Lenny came with saying, I was a mess. I had my step mom or stepdad in a car. Mother-in-law wasn't mother-in-law. And it was just a mess mentally. She was dealing with something baseball before this pivotal World Series game that probably. All time. So I had it. I'm not gonna say the guy's name because I, I just, I don't want to it was a major. I'm not gonna cause I like the guy a lot. All right. There was a major jet playoff game. Okay. And this guy going to say what the game was raining. This guy told me okay that the night before the game. He had a major fight with his wife major the night before to a huge jet divisional playoff game. Okay. He had a major fight with his wife that night and his head was never right? Going into that game. Now I was happy. He told me the story and again, I'm not gonna tell you what a guy is he was happy, but this is stuff. We have no idea would have no idea. That with no way with never know that. And we're killing the guy when you just had this battle with his wife and his head camping I understand that because I. Only when my first wife had a number at all. It's thank God with, with Terry. I really have never had that, but I'm very fortunate in that regard. But my first wife, I certainly did. And you don't even realize that stuff like that is a Louis and we don't know about ninety percent of it, right? Probably happens all the time. Probably ripping guys on the half the time when we don't even know that they major issue going on in personal life, but they still went out there and play the game here. So this story is very peculiar. There's no question, the fact that Benz overs away from the team and may not come back because him and his wife, Marcia within it does sound that way. And maybe there is just sounds as more than just that the fact they cheat on him sucks. Nolan's say that those, of course, but but he's not the first guy did happen to know and you're a major league player and like I said, you know what some point? All right. She's gone. She's all the over it, and you move on the other ten million girls in a world. They paying him. I don't know. I don't know the answer. It sounds like a life. Sounds like a lot more than that. Yeah, it does. And it's kind of goes back to the point you're making so much. We don't know the case, there's more on sounds like that's the case. Let's go to Joe in San Diego. Joe? How are you? Boys. I have to start this call by giving you guys your. Thank you. For three and a half years. I've been trying to find the right lullaby to get my little girl to fall asleep. I'm all of them and note, nothing works. I start singing the Joe and Evan jingle. Work. She smiled. And it's like that from one to two others. Thank you. Thank you appreciate that. We would work for what you're doing. His name is Emma. Yeah. Great. How old is she? Now she three and a half years old. Okay. Works pro Joe we're gonna do. We're gonna do favor, right? We're gonna put you on hold after this, and dove Kramer, personally is going to send you. Clip send you the song. So you can have it access to whenever you want. Well, we're full silo. We all y'all full service. Team tournaments that you mentioned. I think it's got a ton of upside in multiple aspects compared to what we have. Now, I think it would naturally be revenue. Generating events the leak. Here's my question. In certain cases. Do you envision teams that are likely to be in this tournament trying to actually bolster their chances of winning by making some sort of buying move at the trade deadline that has a long term value? Besides just trying to win the of. Yeah, I actually kill. I actually do is long as it doesn't. Let's use the Knicks as an example, right? Because this is the closest home situation as long as it didn't impact the long-term vision of the team. Why not? I don't think it's bad. You wouldn't say hey, let me take on that expiring contract. He could help us win. Maybe west Matthew stays with the Knicks the Knicks Matthews and then they wave them, maybe they don't maybe west wasn't great in the two minutes. He played for the Knicks. But maybe they look at that differently and say, hey, is gonna help us win. So, yeah. I think there would be a different approach, because the value of winning this tournament is monumental on so many different was that it would also give you a team like that a little taste of pressure basketball. That absolutely true. Dove is reminding me that I'm idiot, and I hung up on our caller. I didn't put him on hold. Brain collapse. My one on a regular basis. Now I know I do I get I get it from you. I have. No. We've just talking about stuff at home. What was that? Trying to leave of absence. I've watched it met game slip to our dago. That's a good one and I'm gonna take one for Rouge snap in a corral for Roggio. Yes. What are we talking about tournament? The NBA games out how a team like that would have. Now they have a little feel of playing with a little pressure on. That is a part of why I always wanted the nets to make the playoffs this year. I was never a fan of tanking because if the nets are going to go anywhere next year they can learn from what they just and that's why we talk about, you know, especially in the NBA. We do this, in the NBA more than any other sport. 'cause you know you don't have a chance. Honestly, like I knew the nets one winning a championship. I'm not a complete Brighton do, but I like the idea of that experience and what it brings younger players because I think you learn from that if the nets, you know have a similar team next year and they win a tough first round series. There's a good chance we're gonna site. What happened the Phillies series and say that was such a great learning experience? You. Right. That's why I think winning tournament like that is valuable for owners make more money because they get the playoff dates players who get the experience the fans who get the pick and the excitement of the playoffs. I just think there's a lot of good that comes out of winning something like that, right. I hope they instituted because I'm like you, even though we think about it differently. I don't love the lottery that determining it's terrible lottery terrible fan of that. Randomness determining the future of a franchise. You have some control. Now, at least you add some control over getting the first pick absolute control over your the reason you got the first pet right junior. Hit a bunch of threes in a pivotal championship, you got that as opposed to losing. The other thing too. I think from the owner's standpoint they'd be all Ford as well. Because in fact, I said that guaranteed to have two extra home dates in a playoff. They'd love it. If they win that game relevance. No question, of course, going Roberts coming right back. Did you indulge Atty Memorial Day barbecue?.

"He's in peak. Four may John is he's puppet and very excited about this team and he should can you not and very quietly fans. This isn't directed at certain Anki fans at certainly not directed at Ernie, but to the Anki fans that hated Gary Sanchez he stinks. Get rid of flip them for real Muto area. Now, Gary said Ramos, would you Gary Sanchez has the highest PS on this team? He has the most Rb, not the most Rb is void those, but the most home runs on this team and you can live with his, mediocre defense when you hitting as catcher thirteen home runs in thirty games and hating to an old P S nine eighty seven up in which is elite territory. And that's what he's doing right now for this team offense of Lii and this team. And you're talking about bad teams usually the Mets when they're pitching. Well, they're not. Hitting? They're hitting vice versa. Yes, the Yankees are good team. When you're a good team, you do the opposite. So when you get an awful start at a J hop and you pitching wasn't good. You score. Ten runs and you both in shuts the team down. Yeah. And your bullpens shuts the door Jonathan holder. Zach Britton, even Sesa give some credit he did give up a run, but he was able to get seven outs which matters and the are able to put together enough another comeback geo your shell them in a big arrow the ninth inning. I just want to point that out but aroldis Chapman was able to overcome it struck out VR to win the game. And the New York Yankees continue to roll their a full game up on Tampa Bay games on twenty nine and seventeen now twenty nine and seventeen and the cavalry is coming this because last night Giancarlo played a rehab game had homerun Didi is now playing extended spring training. He's on his way. And that's not a bad thing. And you said this off the I completely agree with this. I completely agree when they get everybody back, they're going to go into a little tailspin. There's going to be a little tailspin for them. You watch and the Yankee fans will be lining up saying, Sita's theme. They will better what outstanding right away. There's gonna happen. Those guys will be backed up, then they'll start striking out a lot to go into maybe three or four game losing streaks up like that. Everybody going nuts. Now that could happen. Stockman. Yeah. Well, you know, you look at their lineup last night, and you've got a good amount of regulars back now DJ's been there off at times, Aaron Hicks, his back Voight and everyday first baseman Sanchez, the everyday catcher, but you still have fill-ins like Kendra Morales right? Brett Gardner is still to me of, filling in an ideal world is a felony as a fourth outfielder and Cameron maven. Gio, your shallow will see those guys being replaced by Devi gregorious and Giancarlo Stanton is a very good thought. Of course, it's not a band, of course. But I you know that that would happen if that did happen. Baseball's a weird game very weird. It makes sense. Right. That's where it came from right? So sure the Yankees are at their healthiest Ville struggle a little bit at least for a short period of time. But right now they are not struggling right now. They are finding different creative ways to win and set of surviving this stretch without their best players. They are thriving during this stretch. Give them a lot of credit for that. We'll come back and get your calls. Eight seven seven three.

"Well, it was a win. But it sure doesn't feel like one for the New York Yankees tonight. They beat the Tigers three to one that have suffered another wave of injuries. And these ones are pretty critical Sweeney Murdy on the subway gas and power Yankees post game show a three to one victory over the Tigers on the field. It was a neat. Tidy win with a couple of home runs. Gary Sanchez Brett Gardner Dominque. Remond through five innings of one hit ball four relievers cleaned it up for a combined to hitter off the field. The Yankees day started by placing Giancarlo Stanton on the injured list with a left. Biceps stream. They announced before the game. That's Stanton would be shut down for about ten days at which point they start to ramp up activity in Seattle goes still not much of a timeframe, but they hoped he would be available to them by the end of this month. This is of course, April first now Miguel and do. On the other hand was announced about half an hour before game time that he was going on the injured list with with a shoulder injury. They were calling a strain with testify will the test that followed showed a tear in the labor of his left shoulder. It happened. We think on the play when he had to dive back into third base member. Bases loaded the snap throw to third base sister day, he dove back in safely and that appeared to be the play that he got hurt on. Well, the labor of tears going to be treated conservatively for now. But if that doesn't respond surgery is an option, and that one would assume would take a season out of play based on what we know about the timeframe for injuries and surgeries of this kind. That's something you don't want to deal with the clearly it is a serious injury for Miguel and to our and the Yankees hope that the rest of the reapportion will show them some alleviation of the injury. And and then we'll see where they go. But clearly Miguel and do not coming back soon. DJ LeMay who has been playing third base has played it pretty well the Yankees and some of their fans actually wondering where he's going to play. And how often will it would appear that third base and every day. Now, the answers to those questions Clint brazier has rejoined the AKIs. Tyler Wade was on his way up. I don't know if you made here before the game was over. But those are the roster replaces for an and Stanton. And now we'll see where the Yankees go at two and two. There are still a lot of baseball to be played their season is far from over. And they still have some players on this team like Aaron judge and Gary Sanchez and glacier Torres and digital May US off to a very good start. You've got a a bullpen that showed what they're made up tonight with green Britain, vino Chapman. And you think you're getting some reinforcements sometime soon with? "To jump off and talking about these guys there's a clear tear at the top. It's only two guys and Gary Sanchez has reassumed the top. I think real Muto went I in my first few drafts of the fall back in back in November there. And now it Sanchez pretty easily. Actually, I I don't know why I said pretty easily. He's not even going full pick ahead. I'm a clown. But he's regularly going there. His men pick is what I meant is pretty easily established as the lowest men pick among catchers, Gary Sanchez at fifty nine point eight eight and then JT rebel do at sixty point zero eight, but Gary Sanchez has been pick of thirty three whereas real Muto has been pick of forty five. So I think people have come back on onto the gear Sanchez train. And I understand it. By the way, I understand why he's the first catcher off the board. I think he's my top catcher too. You know, obviously, he had his he had his issues last year. And despite those issues playing just eighty nine games he still popped eighteen homers with fifty one runs fifty one ribs. Now, he had a terrible batting average at one eighty six. But he was let's see three four tied for fifth in homers for Gary Sanchez. He was on four fifth in runs and ninth. Actually, I think eighth because there is a tie there. So eight highs eighth highest obviously, he was the ninth person because there were a couple of guys at seventy four. I don't know that that distinction necessarily matters to say eighth highest versus just nine th and not worry about the ties. But either way top ten so he was top five top five in the top ten in homers runs Wrigley's dreadful and batting average. But the bottom line is he only played eighty nine games. Did Gary Sanchez anyways still he was still out there doing damage as a catcher that just kind of speaks to to where his bat is. It couldn't have gone worse. So one ninety seven Bab. The injuries. I'm going to say only only in eighteen percent Homer to fly ball rate because I do think that he's going to live in a higher range. So I really think that everything kind of went south for for Sanchez. He still put up a good season. And you should still be taken a number one catcher. Now, it's up to you. If you want to dive in early and be that guy who gets that big lead out there at catcher, and then that'd be where it'd be more inclined to really wait on my second guy. But not too long or else you undercut the value of Sanchez. Right. I think sometimes people take Sanchez real Muto. And then they'd take, you know, Carlton, Fisk as their second somebody who's not even in the majors like they'd just get nothing for that second one. It's like, well, you do kind of chop a little bit off of of what value you're getting with the top guys. So be careful not to do that. But those are the top two JT Muto. I think could could leapfrog Sanchez as the number one come full on draft season in March if you straight it because I mean that's holding him back. You know, he did have a great year last year breakouts. Career the term breakout is something. I I don't know if it's just semantics that I I'm really want to iron out or what? But it's weird when we will say breakout and they've already had a great season before like wasn't 2016 is breakout ear when he hit three zero three three forty three or four twenty eight eleven homers, twelve stolen bases. Now. This year. He popped Twenty-one homers to seventy seven three forty four eighty four..

"So his routine has changed a I'm on record talking about front shoulder concerns. I know you can laugh all you want about Matt carpenter. But Becker didn't have surgery Sanchez. Did disrupt your your your time to get ready. So I would be I have some concerns about Sanchez stumbling out of the gate, maybe eventually getting there. But that's where I'm concerned. I can't spend that pick on Sanchez to me real beautiful is catcher one this year as soon as he traded right now, I get him being the second catcher off the board at ADP but move into a better line. Yup. And I in for drafting the first fibers on. I I understand your concerns on Sanchez and shoulder and saw a probably kind of wait until we see him actually play some spring games or at least after pitchers and catchers report before I grab a couple of shares of Gary Sanchez, but I'm going to have some shares Gary Sanchez because the ceiling is just so high. I mean, this is a guy that the projection systems they all have him between twenty seven and thirty two home runs with like two fifty average. And you know, that's on one of the best teams in baseball. So, you know, the the runs in RBI's we're going to be there. I just think if he can kind of get back to what he was. He was extremely unlucky. Now, some some of the some of the grossness was well deserved. But he was also extremely unlucky on balls in play at a one ninety seven Bab last year. I fully expect him to rebound at worst a little bit. And if he does. Does that then I think he's worth where he's going already? So I think this is a guy that you can get in the fourth or fifth round of your twelve or fifteen team league that can give you second round value. If it all comes together, and that was the kind of guys I tend to want to target anyways that being said, I still have real Mutuel above Gary Sanchez S where the thing is would be drafted in the end of the second beginning third round last year and you'll get back to the the stack has data stuff of the plane. His is expected batting average was three or four points higher than his actual slugging fifty five points below is expected you go Kate injury..
