NCGOP alleges corruption on Charlotte City Council, files ethics complaints

"Has filed ethics complaints against two City Council members. Dimple as Mira and James Smudgy Mitchell. And before we get everybody's reaction to this, Fox, 46 Charlotte's Rochelle are Metzger set it up pretty nicely, but I wanted to clear the Air. Charlotte City Councilman James Mitchell says he wants to clear the air about an ethics complaint filed by State Republicans, accusing the Democrat of using taxpayer money to visit Detroit sports facilities in November 2018 is the first time ever That that has been a test of my name and is truly follows. Mitchell says It was strictly an economic development trip to talk about a potential dome stadium for the Carolina Panthers and future facilities for Charlotte FC. But the complaint says Mitchell's former company stood to benefit from the trip. Bart Moloch was the stadium expert. I spent time with elected, efficient and instead of Detroit, Thomas Entertainment District. That was that true was about it, And so there was no way he benefited from politically no benefit from financially. That was me doing my work this chair of economic development commit. In a separate complaint, the state GOP accuses Democratic Councilwoman dimple as Meera of receiving campaign donations in exchange for a yes vote when re zoning issues came before the council in a statement. As Meera says, in part, these are active and traditional donors. Too many candidates. Most importantly, My vote can't be bought, and I have never received the endorsement of the prominent developer organizations. This is purely a racist, sexist and political attack, as Meera says the complaint is an attempt by Republicans to deflect attention away from concerns surrounding Republican Councilman Tark Bakari, whose company was given $1.5 million of city money for an advanced technology jobs program. That money has since been taken away to which dark Macari took to Twitter last night. And in a Siri's of tweets defended himself, he said, Among other things, if Councilwoman Dimple s marriage does not publicly retract this libelous statement and refrain from repeating this action in the future. I will be forced to take swift legal action. The Democrats took a cheap shot at the ethics of Tart Muk are very cheap shot the attorneys for the city Have basically cleared him of any wrongdoing. In fact, documents and videos of a previous meeting from weeks before showed that the Democratic Council members knew everything from committee meetings and even Complemented tart macari on his work. You wonder what the political rationale was when they all of a sudden voted. I think 9 to 1 to cancel a contract with dark, which he abstained from voting, by the way, which is by what the rules are now the GOP, I think, fired back and said, if you're going to take shots against AH, Republican, one of only two Republicans in the county. Election 2020: Biden's VP Pick

"There's plenty of general reporting out there about each of the possible women who Joe Biden might pick to be his vice president. We're here now to understand the Jewish angle for each of these impressive women to learn what American Jews should know about each of these candidates that might make them more supportive or concerned. So we're going to go one by one and get the Jewish angle from our guest Jacob Corn Blue, the national politics reporter for Jewish insider. Jacob. Thank you for joining us to be back. Let's start with Comma Harris a former candidate for the Democratic nomination a popular senator from California the State with the second largest Jewish population in the country. What's the Jewish angle on Senator Harris? First of all, she married to a Zionist of that Iraqi gets her a Jewish scientist. Yes. So that gives an upper hand in this Jewish of IPE stakes I think that Kamala Harris gives a lot. She adds up to the ticket number one just because she was a popular candidate and people. So her at the start as a rising star and somebody who can really take this to the very end unfortunately it for ourselves she didn't win the primaries should take on. Joe. Biden pretty early which gave. That rise in the polls in the only of twenty twenty. I will say that Biden. Biden comes to see who is preferred choice for Veep Kamala Harris has a big name recognition. Is Obviously arised star and her background, a label as being a black woman from California. But was so high tides in the Senate and in the Jewish community. So the pros are out. The cons are that I'm not sure Biden Israeli looking for someone on the ticket would potentially overshadow him not because Harris Donald understand that if she's on the ticket, she's number two and she's there to serve the presidential nominee and possibly the president. But Because Camera Harris ran on the same slop because she is a bishop you know she can overshadow him in media appearances and potentially as vice president of being a little more independent and vocal than let's say, Dick Cheney and pence on camera beyond the you know the happy coincidence of the Jewish husband is there anything in particular that Jews should know about Senator Harris is policy stances? What has she? Done on issues Anti Semitism, what has she done on supporting Israel, other issues of concern to the Jewish community I guess close ties with APEC obviously. She's spoken at several APEC conferences but she also appealed to the mainstream of the Democratic Party She's not seen as a controversial figure amongst progressives say as someone who is too pro Israel for them she will reflect the same policies that Biden Obama and. Anybody, else running a Democratic Party other than on the an Warren's she would you know align herself with the second policy views? So I don't think she's outstanding. She's not too long in the Senate to look back at a record by think, she has a strong provisions record and she is aligned itself with the mainstream of the Democratic Party next, let's talk about political MIA fights, Susan, rice, Susan Rice served. As US ambassador to the UN in President Obama's first term and his national security adviser in his second going even further back in time actually I think I think she was the youngest ever assistant secretary of State She was you know thirty three or something like that when President Clinton in Nineteen Ninety eight made her the system secretary of State for Africa what did you need to know about Susan? Rice. Well Susan Rice first of all is A. Mixed emotions about Susan, Rice obviously, she has good ties with prominence numbers of the Jewish community and she has a record serving as national security adviser and embassador to the UN on their Obama Democrats SAPORTA. Mostly Obama's policy when it comes to how other than the last UN Security Council. Two, three, three, four, a resolution, and just mind our listeners about two three four why that was controversial. The only time when Obama. ABSTAINED ON APRIL then. All on settlements that you know really couldn't dent on Obama's record when it comes to a majority of American Jews talking about Republican Jews, all those. In Israel who soul Obama as being the more salt when it comes to the Palestinian issue. But Susan Rice obviously had a this overlap from being a national security adviser and the to the UN. Obviously, she was a controversial figure on this front. She was criticized by Dennis. Ross by the full hug combative style. When came to the Palestinian issue on the other hand, she has very strong ties with somebody like a Fox who is very vocal in his pro Israel stats

How President Trump's False Claims Can Affect Society

"And our politics lead follow up from the president's false claims about corona virus continue to spiral. When he told Fox News that children were quote almost immune to the virus facebook deleted the video from trump's page, and then twitter temporarily suspended the trump campaign's ability to tweet. Now, C. N. N.'s Jeremy Diamond reports. The president appears to be out of step with his own White House health experts on vaccines, forecasts, and more. Another day another case of presidential corona virus misinformation. Today president trump suggesting without any evidence that a vaccine could be ready by election day. MOM optimistic that it'll be probably around that date. I believe we'll have the vaccine before the end of the year certainly, but around that day. Yes. I think contradicting government health experts who say a vaccine likely won't be ready until the end of the year at the earliest. Earliest by projection, which is only projection, is that somewhere towards the end of the year, the beginning of twenty, twenty one, we will know whether we have a safe and effective vaccines. Trump's claim the latest wishful thinking from a president who has repeatedly made false and misleading statements about the pandemic. It's going away. Now, it'll go away things go away. Absolutely, it's. No. I minded. Doctor found. She also contradicting that prediction was long does you have any member of society? Any demographic group WHO's not seriously trying to get to the end game of suppressing this? It will continue to smoulder and smolder and smolder. and. Then there's the president's false claim about the corona virus and children. The fact is that they are virtually immune from this problem and we have to open our schools. I'm talking about from getting very sick. Their immune systems are very, very strong that very powerful and they. They. Seem to be able to handle it very well. I get the sense that maybe the president doesn't doesn't know what the word immune means between two hundred and fifty, three, hundred and fifty thousand children have been infected by this virus. Children may be a little less likely to get back did and we don't know how likely they are to spread it others, but they're not immune from the disease. No one who hasn't had his immune from this disease facebook and twitter removed the video of trump's false claim about children to avoid spreading misinformation with twitter. Even briefly freezing, the trump campaign's twitter account. As for the campaign today, the Commission on presidential debates rejecting trump's request to schedule eight fourth debate early next month writing three ninety minute debates work well to fulfil the voter education purposes. "So the whole China Fox. Hunt thing are into that. You know what that's all about. That's going on right now. That's one of the things that FBI Director Ray warned us about a couple of days ago. Fox Fox hunt thought that was more of a British. It's a euphemism. We actually news breaking news. What Betty White's dead breaking. The soups of issued a ruling on one of the tax cases the president's tax return cases everybody so hot to trot about. This is breaking news if you're hot to trot about it. The justices refused the president's request throat, a subpoena from New York grand jury, seeking his financial records as part of a state criminal investigation and threw it back to the lower court. To bottomline finding a bottom line all right well, that's what you're GONNA do bottom line it for you. For a couple of reasons number one thrown back to the lower court means. Nothing's going to happen for awhile, plus it's a grand jury, so the testimony has got to be kept secret. None of this is going to get out before the election anyway now the other case where Congress is trying to get hold of his tax records for an alleged legislative purpose, which is a load of crap They haven't issued that ruling yet. I don't believe so we'll. Just I don't think the justice system is supposed to work this way, but I like punt and a lot of his stuff until after an election. These things being decided not in the in the final days and months of an election. What do you think? Yeah Yeah, I did just given the fever pitch of everything points to me on the calendar where an election cycle isn't happening presidential election and that I mean that too I know we're always in an election now right? I get that, but well not if you ignore it. let's see. I don't know what the cutoff would be. I don't agree with the Supreme Court thing like what Mitch McConnell. Did I thought that was dirty pool although it worked out to to my advantage, personally well and elections have consequences right? You know if enough people thought that was dirty pool. Throw the repub out of power. In the Senate. I don't agree that if there's a supreme court opening, you shouldn't fill it until the election is over. It's a fairly questionable. Assertion. Power power because and and I tell you what it's going to be hilarious, absolutely hilarious, if on November second. Okay, they wouldn't have time, but well now. Maybe they would, but if if the week of the election you know somebody resigns. Let's not get macab and talk about somebody passing away, but if one of the justices designs the week of the election, trump in McConnell will get somebody up on Capitol Hill right that day. Well that's why we have elections. If you think that's fine fine. If you don't vote him out then the day after the election, they decide yeah have to show your taxes and the right there on page four of his ten forty Ez. Check every week from poten for five hundred dollars right there in the tax. I. Don't believe that by the way. The whole Fox on thing, China, I wanNA talk about that coming up pretty interesting. With the Fox on you know what the Chinese are doing there. What does the phrase I really like? Killing Tigers and swatting flies. We'll talk. We'll talk to you about that. Coming up. What now Chinese are Killing Tigers and Swan? On a Fox on Fox out there killing tigers swatting flies. That's what they're doing. They're more worried about the tigers than the Fox's on some more on that coming up. Amazon is pulling on Washington Redskins merch. Right whatever? Is that is that going to become something that you just can't be seen? Wearing is like a Washington redskins, jacket, or t shirt, or or whatever? I was John Riggins plan. It's not I am beating me. It's not impossible, but I suspect that the current insanity will pass and I don't mean the legitimate. Quest for justice and fairness in the rest of it I mean the fever pitch nuttiness. Now I've always thought. The redskins was not a good name. Honestly, you've been softer on that I. have either I. Just that's not a good name was to start today. I wouldn't choose it. Yeah I. Liked leaving things the same that I'm. Just in general, I like things to say. Survival tips that might actually get you killed. I think we've earned this segment. Having just done deep. Supreme Court breakdowns yes, survival tips. That might actually get you killed. For Bear, attacks play dead wrong, really fact. I just fought a grizzly bears. You know if you follow us on. Twitter depends on the bear, grizzly attacks during daytime or prompted by an invasion of the territory. The bear will usually stop once. It realizes you don't pose a threat. Playing a dead can save your life in contracts. Black bear attacks are predatory response fight back to stay off the minorities to bring race into this so fight a black bear. Yes, play dead for Grizzly Wow. They're and they're fairly identifiable. nother survival tip. The might actually get you killed. Boil Water for ten minutes to make it safe to drink fact. Not True. What's the time? It takes water to Rio roiling boil? Any disease causing organisms will die regardless belted they the beyond that. All it's gotta do is boil. Wants you to boil you don't need to. Hear baby rattlers are more dangerous than adults. And how that one might get you killed this because you're just wasting fuel like you need to use that much fire. That's a stretch but okay. Fair or if you drink boiling water too quickly that also boiling frank what? Baby rattlers are more dangerous than adults. Now fact, really juvenile's most American venomous snakes, little control over the glands and always inject a full dose right I've heard that for years, and I live in Rattlesnake I've had to deal with quite a few snake. Adults may inject a partial door in some cases, none at all what what they say, but so that turns out the old wives, Tales tour, right? Okay. Any. Back. which talk, you're dying I. Should you drink your urine? Yes, clearly, it's one thing to drink pale urine, which is ninety five percents water, but the more time pass it through your system. The more toxic the effect on your kidneys, so don't drink your urine over and over for days. Right me, just enjoy it once or twice and then. I don't know. Trying to find a nice mud puddle to the last month or something I don't know after boiling it for just a second. I hope. Out For rattlesnakes when you're fighting a grizzly. Or playing dead right drinking your own urine while you play dead fighting a black bear, you know what you got to fight a black bear, right? Play jazz with a fever I tell you what the grizzlies charging at me. I'm thinking I can't remember which is why. I cannot remember much much much. It's all over China the threat coming up. "And. No hope everything works out as well as it can treadmill. As. AG. CEO Dan Beckerman. said the. We were one of the first industries to stop. And will be one of the first one of the last industries to resume in any sort of normalcy. And it'll be a long time before. Get back to that. The great thing about sports is that it does bring people together, but the brilliant thing about the way that we consume sports in our modern life. Is that you don't have to be there and for the moment. While we were not going to be there. And that's going to impact the economics of where we are, and will and the entire industry you know we were looking at. Articles the other day of how television production is going to change. You'd think about how radio production is going to change. You think about all the employees in Beyond AG. You know all the employees who work at Staples Center on a regular basis who work in our productions on a regular basis on television who assist with parking assist with concessions, and how life has completely been up ended for everyone. And, we cannot wait to get back to some sort of normalcy, and it won't be normal until we can get a full house to watch a game or to attend a concert or a music festival. But I will leave you with this. That day will come. We have come so much farther in three months than I think a lot of people would have imagined. And we'll continue to make progress. It's going to be halting. It's not going to be easy and the sense of normalcy. We'll have to adjust based on how we conduct our daily lives, but we'll get there. I have no doubt. And with that. Want to say goodbye for. The season a big, thank you to our producer, Jesse, Cohen who was done phenomenal work with all the king's men with this podcast with all the content and see it La Kings Dot Com and All the work that he's put in behind the scenes and editing down these podcasts and consumable fashion but also all the work he does. would with Fox sports, west and coming onto our telecasts in. And, giving us a little bit of levity during the year as well so a big. Thank you to Jesse Cohen to everybody with the LA. Kings for allowing us to put this on and Jen. Thank you as well as was new for both of us. At the beginning of the year. I think it turned out, okay. Thanks Alex a very well. Again, you know the ability to. To break something down a little bit deeper. I really enjoy that. And A. Many Times. It's about hockey many times. It's not but. Just something A. Debate is something that I I like we will probably develop that more we. Learn how to do this. And but always always always. Enjoyable, thank you. Yeah, it's been a lot of fun and we will talk to all of you at some point down the line, but until then we say goodbye for now, thanks..

"And it's make sure you let everyone know when the Games are on and where they can find those games on. Well, that's where brackets help because of building availability. It's easier to plan. You know where people are going to stay within a certain area because it's bracketed, you're not receding. and. Let's face it. and. We're fortunate because we happen to be. Part of our industry but TV because of the dollar generated is a huge priority for the leap and it should be. But yeah, maybe you know by receding. It's just a different. We just talked about. It's different right, so let's let's experience something a little bit different here. Because the way everyone is going into this playoff situation. Maybe they should shake things up a little bit, and maybe it should be different than normal and. It's. Man It's it's interesting. It's really interesting for me of. Something, I mean I. Think we're all looking for something to look forward to. And this has caught my attention of what's going to happen when we get back on more than anything else during the pandemic I think we've all missed something to root for. We've really struggled in in that part of something to root for something tangible to root for before I get into the the individual playoff series. It does close the book on the La Kings Season Seventy Games. Very different teams start to finish. As we're as we take this season for the kings and perspective What is your takeaway? We've talked Tom. McLaughlin a couple of times, and we've heard from him on these zoom calls that that have gone out with the season ticket members but I. he had a very very positive outlook at the end of it for her how his team came together. What was your take on the season? Where I'm sitting right now. I look at it this way. I am glad. And happy. that the kings and Todd McClellan did not go for wins early, and they probably could have won more games early. I'm not saying they were a playoff team. I really don't believe they were a playoff team regardless of how their approach was going to happen. But I think they built or started to build that foundation, and sometimes you can take shortcuts sometimes you can. You've gotTa keep going how many times they don't. He didn't change that first power play unit for the longest time. He wanted to give them the opportunity..

"And that's where the balancing act you talked about comes in. We're not going to resume any kind of professional sports in North America unless we are completely sure every league is considering this unless we are completely sure that it is not impacting local healthcare efforts. And that's why the NHL has been so cautious in not wanting to announce too much that. Oh we're going in this direction. We're going in that direction because quite frankly like you said things change on a rapid basis but I do think that the draft is part of the idea that we can draw attention away from What we're going through on a daily basis and make it a positive in some ways like my first question I asked is this. Is there a need to make that change? Do we need to change the date of now caps? Okay there's no need okay. So now that we have that then why change and then go back to what you were just talking about. Which I'm sure that it might not be historical data in might be it might be projected estimates of and if if NBC or NBS C. S. or Fox sports if they are going to Mr Batman and his people and the Players Association also who who have big parts in this if they are going and saying this is what we anticipate this is will drive ad sales. This will get us back running. This is the kickstart we need a mall for. I'm all for now but I'm not going to. I just need that. I'm sure it's there and I'm sure if I did my homework. And Digging Americans say sometimes. They probably shouldn't release that information to us. It should be stated in the industry but I could see going the other way without much of an issue but if the kickstarter is needed them many Again I would be fine. I just want to see a little bit more. Proof. That's very. That's that's fair at now. One thing that I think would be interesting based on all the drip drip reports. That have come out is The the format to this proposed early draft going back to the old way that the draft lottery was done where you pick one winner instead of three and we've talked about this kind of offhand that The kings remember ended the season as we knew it on a seven game win streak which them down to fourth in the you know the draft odds behind Detroit and Ottawa's two picks but of the old format were to be used where you pick one winner and you can't fault. I forget exactly how far you could potentially fall. I think it would only be like one spot or you can only move up a certain amount. I think it was only four spots that you could potentially move up to The kings would still be eligible for the number one overall pick And would still be in a pretty good position to get it. I know there's a segment of of the fan base in L. A. That was worried about. Are we playing ourselves out of a good draft pick here but if if the early indications are true that you know the the League is looking at this sort of thing I actually think it would be a net positive for us here in l. a? And we'd have a shot at. I think any any changes that would be made would benefit any you know but we have to and Even to take it back to where we're just talking about about the draft and it's been thrown out there. I'm in complete agreement with this. Nothing's going to be perfect. Nothing nothing ever is perfect. But there's always you know. This is a different circumstance. This is new. This is groundbreaking. This earth shattering and so the plans and designs and you know that people are going to implement the best of the situation which is a very difficult one on the last but let's be accepting more accepting what's going to happen in the future compared to if nothing had ever happened with this virus and we were operating normally while it's not not why. Abbott normal plans need to be made like getting the Kings. The hideout drop possible exactly. I think they should just award the Stanley Cup based on The largest active win streak Before the pause I think that's the most logical option. Really you know no question. We could get back to another paraded so you can have afraid wait for crowds well. It's true. Speak speaking of that Fox sports west last week was airing the twenty twelve Stanley Cup. Final and then the prayed. I had never seen the parade broadcast in full. There are some clips floating around on Youtube but Thank me back. I know you were involved with taping some of the opens and some of the segments for for the programming last week on Fox sports west Take me back to your memories of that first parade which was centered in downtown. La and And what it was like to see the city in that way because there have been plenty of Lakers parades and it's been awhile since the dodgers one but what was that like to be a part of first of all from the broadcasting standpoint. No you you think you're going to work. It is not work. It's the it's might be the you know I've said it many times. My next day at work will be my first day at work because you know we. We do get some benefits in Persian Persian. It's it's different every day. This one was just it? Wasn't even it was nothing like work even though you had to prepare and you had to kind of go on. You're you're on camera for a certain amount of time and you're thinking about different ways and there's different segments and we're going from different venues back forth all around. You had to fill four hours of time but it it was not work at all and it just back to I ever. It's just the parade to me was the complete opposite to enjoy. There was no worry anymore. Have to battle. You didn't have to beat the other you'd already worn. Maybe for the first time in my life I I wasn't a player of course when the Kings just one recently at the end of previous seasons when I played the last game of the season it'd be over the next day I'd be thinking about the first day of the next season mind works. Criminal stopped anticipation with a parade. Did Not matter. I didn't think ahead to the next game the next season I didn't care. It was time to finally just celebrate. That's that's just what comes back to me. Unfortunately you had plenty of time because they had the lockout before the Kings GonNa raise their Stanley Cup banner in January the following year. But that's just involved another opportunity for Mike Bowl who is bringing the Stanley Cup around to make her stop in Redondo beach and have another visit with a big silver chalice. I would love that Spit you know what I want to get to this topic quickly and then And we can get to some listener questions after that but You know what I want to look ahead a little bit to next season it starts and this pause and it was asked recently was listening to a podcast with Jake Muhsin and he was being asked this pause help. The Toronto Maple leafs because they had such a Tumultuous Season Coaching Change. And you know just ups and downs. They had the emergency backup game. And all that you know a pause to help reset things and it got me thinking whether this pause and whether the subsequent reality that we're GonNa live in with you know maybe a lower salary cap or something else will help the Kings. I know we ended the season as we knew it on a seven game win streak but I am looking even further into the future than that to say. I wonder that the kings might be in a better position than most as we emerge from this with a tighter economic position. The kings next year have committed just sixty million dollars against the cap and some of that money isn't even real money and Jeff. Carter's deal I think is so backloaded that it's you know minimal cash so You know a small relative amount to the rest of the League restricted free agents. Going INTO NEXT SEASON. You've got three. Austin Wagner Nikolai Hawkins Sean Walker and you as Trevor Lewis Ben. Hutton Yokum Ryan. That's it no major pay days expected. Maybe Sean Walker but I could see that being. Moore's moved to lock them up long term. I think this accelerates the kings timeline to being a contending team because when they are ready to spend on a free agent or on player that they've developed or may be drafted first overall. I think that they'll be in much better position economically to handle that than another team. That might be up against the CAP. What's your take on whether this Hanno were you know? Nobody wants to benefit from this sort of situation but whether the kings might be in a better position to rebound quickly. I'm just GonNa go on the best thing of the sport because of the unusual nature of what's going on right now. We cannot punish teams. That are in trouble recant. They were vying for a cup now. Their plans were set for now and this is so unusual that they have to find a way to grandfather's not the right word but they can't just go to. These rules will have to be amended the salary caps structure. You can't punish teams that you just can't and I know the Kings are not not situation right now so it does go away from from helping the Kings right now in all fairness you just can't take that away from the teams that have built for two or three years and put it on the line made those trade at the trade deadline right the trades if they know. Were mortgaging the future for something. That's going to happen now. Those will be handled but but I do. I do agree with you. I understand where you're going. Your logic is dead on in how the Kings are. GonNa be less hurt by this out if I can put it that way as opposed to help exactly the help. There'll be less but I when I hear that I just WanNa cautioned myself in my own head going. If it's GONNA take time it's GonNa take time take time don't Russia. New Sects of circumstances might a speed up the timeline as you were saying but It's it's something where from where the P. A. in the NHL has to get together at a really think this year. Now finish the year next year two years Like a five year issue of how this one segment. Let's hope it's the last stoppage we have because of this reason. We can't again the first thing that comes to mind to me as you can't punish the teams that were just on the verge Unfortunate I think. A perfect example was that as Toronto with their their CAP issues. And the you know Washington's another team where they loaded up expecting to be a contender to win today and win even in the next couple of years there window is there You know the even with flat salary cap you know. They're expecting some sort of lifts right But if if things are going to change now you can't wait for the Stanley Cup this year. If whatever reason they had to cancel everything.

"That's that's something that I would have to defer to someone who maybe has some type of marketing man background in research. I'll take a stab at Asian. I think having a regional connection to a team helps. Let's say if the stars played preseason games in Albuquerque or had the kings went on those barnstorming tours with Gretzky rate and all of a sudden team started popping in areas where they played Florida Texas Arizona. It didn't have one in Idaho. I don't think I'd take a long time. Still may be the case. Where Texas has the most professional hockey teams like depending on? How many different levels should go down the point? It was Dallas. They had Houston with the arrows. They had the Allen Americans. They had another team somewhere else. They have now they have the Texas Stars San Antonio Rampage though. They're moving right. Yeah I think it's a combination of you have to see it in person but the professional teams that exist like the Kings nurtured the Las Vegas Market for years and built up attention Fox. Sports West is carried in Nevada although they don't air are games anymore because blackout restrictions. But I think the kings played a large part of the reason why Las Vegas is a successful hockey market today. That that's my take at least I don't have to take all right one all right. We'll move on to deep tristen asks. What brand and what amount of hair product is Jim? Fox us to get that amazing head of hair. Wow well first of all we'd have to go to Robin Felix. I just got my hair done today. I am he has done. My hair is what we say. Yeah he is. Cut My hair for at least twenty five years if not longer. I'd have to delve into it a little bit deeper. Let me see reaching right now because I really going back of the brand name you carry it with you well. I have my broadcasting bag so I have my makeup with me and it is d colon. Fis who defy extreme hold styling cream styling cream for extreme cold and Cheyenne is. You do have extreme hold and Shine Crema Pot. Melita actually lawsuits foreign okay. Cream poor wound success. Y'All Britannia X ray. I've been pushed onto something called Fido P. H. Y. T. O. But I I bought something just. Cvs called Fixture Lid. So defy. I defy anyone to find a better accidentally cream this well. I don't want as much shining my here. That's answer for me. All right. Jessi our producer. What do you have for our final question? Was there ever a year where the quote unquote wrong team won the cup? That's an extremely Jesse Cohen question because Are If you're not familiar with Jesse and all the king's men and that podcast he. He asks a lot of questions in a very whimsical fashion. Sometimes the wrong team won the Stanley Cup. You are yes. Nineteen ninety-three nicely. I like that answer. Well don't leave Jesse hanging. Hi Five even though we're supposed to not hold. I've handed high-fives anymore for those out there and I've got I've got a really brush up on my gibbs's rules k. Ncis the question reminds me of like. There are no coincidence. So I know the team. That wins went team wins. That's it never wrong team. Now that we've been through it and I've been able to a chance to see it day after day after day. During a playoff run that ends up in the Stanley Cup. They're so many things after come together so it's never happened taken aback not even nineteen ninety-three. I would say I don't believe in Jinx's or curses but I believe. Canada has been jinxed and cursed by way of the Marty mcsorley incident and they have not had a team win the Stanley Cup. Since wow if I even believed in those things which I don't but if I did that would be my boss. I think the game is won on the ice. It would have been interesting in hindsight. I know it. It's you know means a lot to us here that that we were a part of that Stanley Cup final but it would have been interesting to see Toronto Montreal. Final that year and given crazy that kings may believe series was how that's one of the best playoff series time still That's still would have been an interesting series. Then you know when we were there obviously in a member Barry Melrose the head coach of the Kings at the time and he almost put a little bit of a ban on talking to hockey night in Canada. Of course they were very middle of the road. An unbiased and they wanted to. They wanted Montreal. Toronto yeah played. We played all Canadian teams. If I'm not mistaken in that playoff year so we were the hated team you know. They're they're all wanting that next Canadian team to win a Stanley Cup. And we put a Nixon that until the end of course with Montreal but Yeah there was for a national broadcast. I guess I can certainly understand it because they are the national broadcasting the Canadian heavy public team so broadcaster for all Canada Yep so it was it was A. They were rooting and Barry. I think very smartly used that as a motivational tool used as a distraction he used to get away from certain negative that were going on and turn it around and build up the Kings in the unfortunately built them up as good as he possibly could and just didn't have enough the. Yeah if they had one gene to would history of changed yes the. Kings would have been up to nothing. In that Theresa we go.

"As far as Tampa. I wouldn't be surprised if they want it because they have the one element I think is super important to any team that wants to win the Stanley Cup. Scar tissue Yup In view look back. I mean there. I'm sure there are exceptions. But so many teams that have won. Cups have not just been lucky to get in that one time and make a run. Even the Kings had lost in the first round to prior years before winning it in two thousand twelve a little bit of scar tissue with that group. They wanted to get beyond the first round. It hurts hurt so much. That maybe make the adjustments right. Think about Washington. Think about all the disappointments for that team especially head to head against Pittsburgh. I think scar tissue makes a huge huge difference. Saint Louis Gets Tarasenko back then. They have a weapon that they haven't had all you know. Just another team came close. Yup Yup Tarasenko is going to be true like mid it's almost like a trade deadline acquisition. Does it fit in with the chemistry? I mean he's he's obviously teammate. Or there is but like does it upset. Whatever else they've gone. There is an adjustment period. There Pat Riley coach of the Lakers. He wrote about it in his book where he brings back a magic missed half a season and then he came back and they had. The team was still in first place or close to first place. I still remember they came back. They had the welcome back magic signs and everyone in the building of the old Great Western Forum all this and then the team went on down thing these went into a slump. Because there's that human nature things of the guys are going. Hey what about US right? We just we just? We played really well with our top guy. What about and then comes back and all the attention goes to. It's not magic's fault it's not that player's fault but but then in the long run when you work those things out you want magic you want. Tarasenko you want those guys. This is just a tag it with a question which Canadians is from Ron Fortier Which Canadian team will break the drought and win the Stanley Cup? Next any chances this year so Ron Forte. Run forty four If it's it might be the Hawk might be my buddy there if it's a hawk. I don't know maybe I don't see it this year. It's hard they're only going to be the Edmonson. Toronto EIGHTY WINNIPEG VANCOUVER. Likely certainly no favorites right now group. No no clear favorites not even in their conference. Yeah so maybe Toronto over the long haul. Because they've got so many skilled guys I like the way Vancouver's Kinda gone about the slow build. You have two years just listening to podcasts at Travis Green. And you know they're confident over the next five six years that they're going to be a really well oiled machine there. David Rice idol is goaltending. Good enough is the ten defense They might be again in that cycle where once they start adding a few more peers. Because it's tough to deny those big boys. I Would Trust Kenny. Hollan theme so yeah not the last year a year ago. Pele kill second worst this year second best. Yeah that's an area where I'm thinking of atoms. Trophy coach of the year. What areas the coaches have the most impact special teams? So if you can have an effect on a team like that kind of raises team that was out and now is in. Yeah Sposato so moving on. We had the trade deadline recently. Two guys two guys asked this question. Michael Lindberg and John Caldwell both ask it in similar ways. 'cause you traded in juniors but never as a PROB- I don't know if you can speak to what that process was like when you got traded from one team to another and adjusting to a new team. What was that like as a player? It was easier for me because of the circumstance that that happened I was selected in the junior draft in Ontario. I overall so Windsor Spitfires pick me I was fifteen years old and went to camp. Actually Joel Quenneville. Was the head coach. Excuse me the captain of the Windsor Spitfires. At the time I went and I was just too young and I was homesick. But also We've talked about it before my bottom drawer. Start to fill up with applications from every college out there but I couldn't play major junior and then go to college. Considered professional still is so I I went to camp and I went home and in all honesty when I look back at now. I couldn't minute then I can. I wish homesick was the biggest thing. I just didn't feel comfortable where I was already been away from home two years one year. Excuse me previous. That had a great time in North Bay where I played with the Hawk. Run for but It just I just so then I missed that whole year. Which of course really upset Windsor. Spitfires GOES ON THEIR HEAD COACH. We came to my house when my parents. Are you going to get one common? No problem okay. We'll pick it. I did not felt really bad about it. But then so after that first year there. The end of the year off trades for me knowing that. I'm not gonNA play for them that year but I made might join them. The following year auto ends up going to the Cup final that year and then during the summer I made a trip to Ottawa. Met some of the players met Brian. Kilrea met the. That's so I didn't really have to leave a team and join a new team. You knew kind of what you were eventually going to get into. So here's the best thing of it. You can imagine how much the Windsor fans really appreciate. They really love me. The next season first game of the year in Windsor Man. So we get well. Oh my I mean it's it's it's hell. Were they throwing rotten fish it you that would have been the nicest thing through so what happens is the happened to be a mix up some transportation issue with the officials no cell phones but they were able to get in contact they were going to be late about forty five minutes late so they come up with this idea that's have a showdown shooter against the other teams goaltender one shooter on just who. Brian Kilrea picks me so now I gotta take five shots on their Goldie. That one of their guys takes five shots. Whoever has the most goals wins and? Mexico. I'm on the Ice Alone. Going on a breakaway. You believe me scoring was the easy part dodging all the stuff thrown was the choir and I ended up winning shootout. We end up losing the game. They'll actually won the game but That was the worst part of the trade scenario Just a young kid that nobody is really when I was getting those college. Now everyone were sending and I was really looking forward to doing that. But then when I met with the people in Ottawa. They just changed my mind. Who would just a great and I love Ottawa. I just love it. I can only imagine kind of animosity but it's not good feeling. I felt awful but then I understood I understood completely but now I'm only seventeen years old and right and you are in the frame of mind you know coming in there with smug look on your face and I'm gonNA show you guys choose. I was you know and we and actually then that year. I'm not mistaken. Yes that year the wage a which is now the. All Star game was in Windsor. All Star team played online with Wayne Gretzky in that game scored a goal. Wayne being the Password so dodge some more debris that's great? That's that's awesome and I don't feel like because fans understand now. Maybe even in junior hockey to certain degree and I'm less versed in that when players move and especially in the pros. There's no animosity anymore. It's understood that it's a decision and it's not their fault the biggest in free agency. That's when we saw the hate towards John Taveras In the island. That's about the only time where you really see. Individual players singled out any more as enemies. Unless you're you know vander came you make enemies wherever you go but I? I really can't count on more than one hand. And the guys that are hated individually. Yeah at the amateur levels they do a better job nowadays by restricting the amount of time you can trade players and they try to make it easy now they do have what happens in the junior leagues more so than the Pro League talk about buyers and sellers that no teams have identified. How good they're going to be and they stock up. They really stock up. They try to load up one team and that happens quite a bit at that level but they they have their windows now where they have to make trades. Because they're they're cognizant of the effect it could have on a kid a kid that's not mature yet One thing that it's always been weird to me because in college Northeastern in Hockey East plays against the University of New Hampshire James Van Rims. Dyke was on those. Unh teams and he was a pest. We hated him. We had one game. He took a run at one of our players and usually our student section dresses in all black while the next section they made a one game exception. This is the blood game. We want blood. They all dressed in red. Every time Javy are touched the puck he be showered and booze people were throwing things on the Ice Trevor van rooms that goes to. Unh He gets booed. Every time he touches the puck. Brendan Van Rooms. Like the third brother goes there. He's getting booed. What happens? Brendan Transfers to northeastern. I have to root for that guy. Now that's weird switch. Though I made the switch I still find it. We still have a problem with the man who got bad memories in that game. Are I'M GONNA move on We got another question about the trade deadline. Broadcasters get excited about the trade deadline as much as the fans this is from Richard Having been through it a million times no because ten percent of what is talked about ends up happening so I try to wait till it's all over and then you know figure it out and see what's going on but I think it's just a maybe at a self defense device that when you're playing your you hear all the rumors and you go on in your head. Starts to spin on your your. Your life is a mess for two weeks and then when you become a broadcaster all these awe and everyone wants to be that. Oh let's break this trade in this team to me. Wait till it happens. Then I'll figure it out after that you know I've been caught in between wanting to be on top of every little news more soul that comes about for this team and then sitting back and waiting and and I realized recently. That doesn't make a difference. You Know How when the Front Office pulls the trigger on a move. Whatever they're gonNA do what will be will be and we'll find out about it you know. Yeah it's as a fan. You can speculate all you want. I mean we kick around boy you know. I wonder what they'll do with this guy and that guy especially in the situation we've been in but I gotta be honest. I wasn't like excited about the trade. I watched the Trade Center show like anybody else. But that's about it media media homesick. Yeah exactly up to more than we'll wrap up one from what our producer or producer Jesse our producer Jesse question at the end of the Bonus. Question all right. I'll do the two listener questions then. I'll get whatever Jesse's concocted over there Brad Bach asks how to smaller hockey markets. Let's say Albuquerque New Mexico. I think he lives there. Which currently don't have a professional team Gain the interest of he says NHL team. But I think it's more kind of hockey fans general. How how would small markets get more interest in hockey and help attract new players? I mean markets like L. A. Benefit greatly from the king's. How do you get that in other places that don't have hockey? Ooh That's that's a tough. I'll give a stab at this first of all Brad. Thanks for your service. Yeah thank you Brad. It kings games before.

"Let's go let's go Jesse. Play that music as we welcome you to Ray Ferraro podcast studio in El Segundo California right next to the employee break room and the PR offices and the men's room all kinds of it's just in one little corner of the office there It is Fox and faust the podcast and it is all listener questions that Jim has not seen. I learned as I lower or even heard. I love this Iowa. Let's get right to this year. All right Paul Asks Are the Golden Knights coaching chains and trades enough to propel them deep into the playoffs. No that's what happens when you ask a question. You get a yes or no answer. I want their playoff team. But I I don't think that's. I don't think it makes a difference to me whether how how deep they go right if you get in you have a chance and even if you lose in the first round sometimes you could be termed as successful season. I think that the road through the Pacific. We still have some time to go there. I think most people I've talked to an agreement they have the best roster so maybe that will get them through then. We're GONNA to play a wildcard team if they if they finish first and that wildcard team might be from the other it. It's just a whole bunch of stuff going on WHO's getting hot right now. Nationals in the playoffs as we speak all these teams. Chicago is back in the mix homo. They've gotta jump four points behind as we talk. I believe but they've got a jump for teams and points are going to be spread around the nose team so But I think Vegas I think their rosters better there something missing and maybe they thought that something missing Peter deboer would be able to find out so if they do get there on the take credit away from the players and give it to the coach all right. This is a grab bag. Who among you does your makeup? Does Patrick O'Neal do as good of a job as Carlin bathe. This is from Bell. The cat well. I do my own makeup as do I and when NBC hundreds way more than you do. Why probably just wants age that it was for beauty? It's for the glare. A lot of people don't understand that you know maybe a cover up a few things here especially when accidents happen while shaving. You start getting that listening. Look and you want to tamp that down but No I do my own. I used to be more orange than I am now. Took me a while to figure it out. But I've got the colors the the the MAC. Nc Forty and. I've got it all down now. So I use the twenty five I think from and I do my own except when. Nbc comes in and they hire their own makeup artist for. We're on camera less for the National Games that we are on Fox and then they hire a makeup person. But it's in the budget so I guess so job job to. Yeah Oh they much prefer having done Mike Fudo once Once Chirp me He was like your skin is glowing. I'm like all right. Thanks all right handed Davey asks. What's the book that's made a big big impact on you? Or what are you reading right now that you like or you can ask answer both. If you want big impact that goes back to Lee IACOCCA and what you didn't learn at the Harvard business school sound like that. That's a long time ago. I thought the way. He positioned a lot of things was very practical very very easy to understand. Very easy to read I in all honesty never even graduated from high school really. Yep Wow I had enough credits to do so but since I moved around too. I think five different high schools because I was moving around playing hockey Never really got them all together and received a diploma end up going to community college here as a mature adult student called him at the time when I was twenty three or twenty four but I I've read a million bucks and that's where I felt like I take that from my dad. My Dad had great eighth grade education but he would read self help books everything he could get his hands on and I just think it's certainly supplement what you can learn and other places and then you have to take that that theory and apply it to real life and lot of times. It doesn't mix sometimes it does I really like a historical novel. Slow seabiscuit. Took me through the early? Nineteen hundreds throughout the twentieth century Just because of the owner of the horse and what was happening United States at the time really interesting how they inter wove all of the. What's happening in this country and in the world and it's all around the racehorses. It's interesting that way they did that. I think there was one called ruling interesting to me widow of the south of not mistaken historical novel about the Civil War Battles. Just outside of Nashville. If a man just takes you through what they had to do. It was a carton house just outside of Nashville. It was owned by very wealthy family. But during the civil war they turned it into a military hospital where they were taking casualties from both sides. Just trying to help but it was kind of mystical historical novel where the House started to speak him. Tell you who is there and what was going on. And what was a graveyard? Outside Bob Miller and I actually went and visited The actual Carton House The book was very But again then again. It taught me about the history of that time. Because a lot of the facts were were true and Don't call me on the name but it's IT'S A. I'm sure if you googled the theme that I'm talking about not reading anything right now. Love to get now you know. I recommend the book. I'm reading the Elton John. Audubon just me Elton John. If you've seen the movie that recently came out rocket man is it's very much like that but it expands every single scene in that movie and gives you the background and context of it and he writes almost in a very it's an analytical style because I think in all of our jobs we especially for At the top of our field We have very nuanced. Take of how everything happened. So he's talking about how he implemented things that he learned from other song Writers and You know other styles that he listened to and how they incorporated in the band when they bombed that a show like how. Why did they do that? Why did it not work with that audience and going through the mental process of that? It's really interesting. Read the the the artistic nature of those talented people. I am just spellbound by it. I do have Elton. John's story CONISTON family. Two brothers John Williams Frank Williams. Frank was kind of a savant. He could play the piano by ear so you would just listen. I think I saw a little bit of that in the type. Well Benny and the jets he would sit at the wooden sit in front of the piano. He would sit at the end of the piano and go. I'm trying to I know we're on instead of going side to side. He would go up and down the keyboard. He's not sitting in front of the piano. He's sitting outside and he would play every single note perfectly so hand above hand as opposed to hand side by size and I remember him playing Benny and the jets. What had a really Nice Piano Ding Ding Ding do. He would play that by ear. No music no notes in front of him. Nothing and again completely from the side playing long way incredible I would say the other book that That sticks out to me just from my job I've read to That that really stick with me one is the AL MICHAELS book and A. You want to talk about a charmed life in this business and it's almost like Forrest gump it was just all the things that always around to see in his career but but fantastic stories and just all the places that he wound up in his career in Hawaii and Cincinnati. And of course the miracle on ice and all that and Joe Bucks Book for Guy who was ridiculed for a good chunk of his career by some just. The sense of humor is early biting sense of humor so if any vinnie. Listeners are interested in sports broadcasting. I highly recommend those two books Phil Donahue the human animal. It's an old one. He just goes through how humans are animals and how you compare it to him to other species and we see something from another group of animals or another and and you can laugh. And that's funny and then he brings up an example of how humans do exactly the same thing exactly the same thing. I'M GONNA move onto another question. This is from King drew. I believe Andrew's name. How do you know every player on the opposing team and for the most part pronounce their name Right Mainly Eastern conference? So it's only two games a year. You see them. Only that amount of time in your quick to know who exactly is on the ice. I I'll speak more from. My perspective is play by play guy. I have placed a much greater emphasis since taking this job on memorization. When I used to radio I could get by kind of walking into a situation and you have almost a half second Gap where you can look down all right. It's it's that guy on TV you really don't have that and and you get caught and you get burned if you don't ignore exactly who has the puck at any time and you can tell for the most part but Even we were playing Toronto on Thursday night and there were a couple of guys that we had never seen before then lil grin and San Dean. A couple of rookies and I. I had trouble like who the heck is thirty. Eight whose thirty seven. They just traded for Morgan. Sixty two like. What's he doing on that team? So those are a little bit weird but For the most part like just memorization has been the only thing that I can use to to try to identify and you get used to seeing certain players in their tendencies even if they are in the east especially top guys again i. My answer will be completely different which I think it should be and I know a lot of people. Don't think about it this way and I don't expect listeners or viewers to think about this way but the analyst job is completely different from the play by play job completely both announcers but completely different so usually when I say a name. You've already said it so I'm doing a replay. That's normally when I'm talking. I do base most of mine on one hand they shoot. How do these skates that type of thing? But while you're calling the play live which is incredibly difficult. I can figure it out. See it. I've already seen it by the time I talk on the replay. I know who took the shot? I'm verifying with a chart I have in front of me sometimes especially with the east coast teams and it kind of reminds me today because I was reminded on twitter today. That is the anniversary of a game. I did play by play. Play Kings. Montreal Bob? I'm not sure the reason but he could not make the game and it happened very sudden. I don't believe it was an illness I I it was something I forget. Why APOLOGIZE FOR FORGETTING THAT? So someone tweeted out. Today this is the anniversary of Jim. Fox's Mike Ours. Yeah and he was trying to find a two and you couldn't find it. You couldn't find any audio or video of it and it was you know they called me the day before. Wow so I had no but and when I did it I was going a million miles an hour. I didn't have any way to end sentences or I know. The Guy was making fun of me. Said IT'S THE GAME. We're nothing happened or something because I would say nothing happening nothin happened. That would be my cat treasury. Nothing happening but I do like to say I would say if you read it on a scale of one to ten probably be be around a one and a half maybe a two but I think of it this way. "All right this week changing up the format a little bit. There are a few few news items that probably WanNa hit right off the top but after we play that wonderful new intra music in just a moment. This is like the all request Radio Hour. It's all listener questions that have been backlogged and We haven't had a chance to touch yet so I've got one thing to ask right off. The top general managers were meeting in Boca Raton. What a life right to go to resort Georgia one in Boca Raton. And they have the off season meetings. It's a great great little resort thing there as an aside anything that came out of the that you liked didn't like -mergency goalie things staying the same salary cap is. We might have two years of clarity versus one. Offside anything all of it stood out to me We mentioned before that they have been looking to try to figure out something with the emergency goaltender situation and when we talked about it. We admitted that it's it's just very difficult. It's it's not one of those subjects where you can go okay. Here's the answer. It just didn't work that way and they ain't found that probably because it happens so rarely they don't really need to tweak it The salary cap is good for everyone as far as cost certainty. I think everyone wants that. I think the fans want it. I think the players want it. I think the owners want That that just helps. The offside more than anything of the tweak of the rule is breaking a plane as opposed to having to have your skate on the ice to me it will. Certainly they're still going to be some times where that edge of the plane is still going to be very difficult to see but I anticipate much less time. Being spent now uncertain circumstances to try to find the best view the view that just ends all questions and I think that'll happen less and less than faster and faster and if anything we've talked about on this podcast is with a replay. Just have to speed it up and this must be cut down on kind of very small margin reviews. I've had this argument with Luke by the way Lou. Bataille is all in favor of keeping your skate down on the ice and the Blue Line and whatnot and I told him dude like we'd have your views we'd have more goals and it would just be easier for everybody once again. There will still be times where even though you don't care where the state is touching the ice where it will be difficult to tell whether it's actually breaking the plane. Sure there's still going to be that in cultures and conclusive video and then go on. Let's move over at move on. Great I actually you know what I I lied. I'M GONNA GET TO ONE QUESTION BEFORE. We hit our wonderful music from our producer. Jesse Cohen Should the Carolina Hurricanes Retired Jersey number ninety. Jack Wade asks this. Because that seems like a very Carolina Hurricanes thing that would happen Carolina. Hurricanes can do anything. They want to say that I would say this. And maybe I'm overreacting to the situation. One of the everglades would diminish every other retired Jersey. Ever done I agree I and you know what for a guy who is playing for them right now whereas number fourteen. I'm sure he would May Be a little slighted. Okay One other thing from GM's meeting I. This was a very under the radar nugget. Because I've talked before about player in tracking and it's coming and supposedly is going to be in for the playoffs. I'm a little bit more skeptical now than I was a couple months ago that the NHL will actually do it. Because GM's you know they get scared of these sort of things sometimes. Apparently the NHL secretly deployed these pucks. That have the chips in them. Unbeknownst to twenty four different teams they were using the new pucks and nobody knew and nobody could tell. Nobody I love it. I love that. Why would they be able to tell nuts? There's no difference. It's basically the same thing. It's just got latronic thing in there. Did you hear the story about when they did the Old Fox? Oh Yeah Jackson. Eager Larionov had a bucket of pucks and they put in the one or two of those pucks every time of twenty and every single time when he took it out he could tell exactly when you were worried about and supposedly Sidney crosby at all I can tell the edge. Work is different than then came out. This little nugget from GM's means Total Baloney player tracking. Here we go. I like people used to hate. They used to hate it. When you actually saw the score on the screen corner you have. All the technical terms for scoreboard bug. And oh the the Scroll on the bottom. All hate all the lines on the field. You know that just now. You can't live without it. You can thank Fox sports for a lot of that in the NHL was one of the first to have the live score bug and that was the revolutionary technology that got the first and ten line in for the NFL in the NFL came to Fox. So you can thank the NHL for a lot of those technological enhancements all right you ready for an all request. Radio Hour I am. I will preface by. I have not seen any of the questions..

"We're in the end zone. Were the Chinese delegation. Was so all. We're in that with about ten minutes remaining in the second overtime period because they're going to go to the shootout. I saw all the photographers coming to our end of the field. We're only about twenty rolls up from. We're brandy chastain. Took OFF HER JERSEY. We were right there but I noticed all the photographers coming over and I said the penalty kicks are going to be at this end. If if there are kicks I was so but just that whole hundred thousand people and Taoist great experience how. Well that's cool list Premier League game. We'll get you there. That's a bucket list. There's there's enough overlap at new stadium. Here's Phanom Craven so Fulham's my team. Oh craven cottage if there been relegated if you weren't in the industry this is from From if you weren't in the industry you currently work in. What would you be doing teaching school? I think that's two Two brothers that are teachers I just think that would fit with. Why would Fits my personality a little bit and not a lawyer? you've gotta you've already lawyers demeanor. Picking apart statements that other people make who tend to sit next to you on television Like Lauren we'd Meyer used to work for us. I would continue my legal education at night and come up with legal at some point while I was teaching. I I would be a management consultant because that was my first job out of college and I always had the idea of. I want to solve problems and I will solve the world's problems and you'll pay me handsomely to do it and then you won't fix it and I can go off and solve somebody else's problems gets a great thing because you never responsible ours. No no better word anyone's title than consult my Gosh never responsible for the final production. I love it Scott asks the Canadian flags color is red with some white. Obviously the only color in the flag is red. Is this to honor? The country's love of Ketchup I would never ever ever though spill catch up on the Canadian flag. Oh disrespectful really respectful. But if I did I would do it on the maple leafs so you wouldn't be all right. I can't answer that question because I'm not a Canadian Joel. Goodling our producer pregame and Postgame Fox sports west and actually a couple of others Asked your favorite getaways Scott. Ask this as well. Favorite getaways favorite vacations. Southern California hough was. Now you're getting me favorite place to have a glass of wine in the world is the Piazza in Sienna. Italy ooh Never been to the polyot where they have the horse races because it doesn't fit my schedule but I can imagine how great that would be I'm I'm I'm I think I am have a beer. Outside of the Coliseum in Rome was just phenomenal just just to just to look up and see if I won the lottery. I probably have a place in the Amalfi coast or up near Chink with Tara Santa Margarita. I know Frank Sinatra had a place right there. He think I realized why he did. I can drive up to Palos Verdes here and you get the same type of views. Almost the same topography. But there's something different when you're on vacation. I loved Japan. I thought it was a fascinating country to visit and I would love to go back domestically one of the places that I really WanNa go back to his Alaska especially in the summertime. It is amazing. You WanNa talk about the policy and just just totally different environment It was amazing. I love to go back getting caught in a rainstorm like store. It just started coming down cats and dogs just outside a bone in Burgundy. We went on a tour of wineries on our bicycles and we went about halfway through. We were going and they had just started coming down. Never had more fun in my whole life. It was great back in. I had drunk. We're you know you've got to attain yourself and the road was little wet so you but I'll tell you we went to one and I was still just coming off of playing them and or close to it and I had still had some pretty good legs you know. Muscles remember stopping and having a picnic outside one of the wineries. My wife speaks fluent French. The guy comes out and He's he says to her eight. You mind if my your husband's stays by in with those legs and helps me pick and I said okay. I'll do that. Snoopy asks seriously. Why do hockey players wear suits and ties? It's not like the growing a work in an office or something. That's just the general respect. I think that has been part of the traditional aspect of hockey to the point. Where you just in a country like Canada? I think that's where it stems from. It's different now. You know with all the Canadian kids going to the NBA and high dropped back when it was the one sport that you aspire to play and be a professional if you ever made it then you would dress like that. You would dress in total respect and I think that's just carried on. Yeah I like it. I I really like the the dress code in the NHL. I think we are showing up two jobs right and we are behaving as professionals. We don't WanNa Look Slovenly as we head into our place of work and we do want to have respect for the environment we have. I got one more then. We'll finish. When will we start seeing Fox and faust at the flicks? Well I think that would be. You know what that would be very enjoyable. Because I know that we're different generations and I definitely respect your opinion of the arts and I have a lot of deep opinions to about moviemaking and and and I see this is what happened to me because of the Valentine's Day Gosh marathons they play. Can you imagine like for years for years? My favorite movie is pulp. Fiction just absolutely loved. It loved the dialogue. Like the writing. Big Tarantino Fan. But I really didn't know that he was the writer back. Then when I watched identity reservoir dogs until after I saw pulp fiction and then since well I find myself watching. Titanic and that's kind of moving up there one two now with alert. How can both always movies go together? They don't but titanic over pulp fiction. I just want slap me. I JUST WANT. Tim are engineered to cut off the part where after it says I respect your opinion and then just nothing after that exactly and then we can go on from there. I I actually. It'd be fun because Bob Nick at the flex. That was the thing back in the day. I know that you haven't seen so so it'd be interesting if I'm gonNA live in L. A. I gotta I gotTa Watch more movies so I'd be open to to something like that and it's with that unless you got anything else. Jim I think we're GONNA end speaking movies every time. I'm going to staple center. I'm taking that on ramp. Yeah and I want to get into my car and get on every time. How cool is this? We're driving on the on ramp. That movie that's kind of NEAT. All right well we encourage everybody. Hit THAT SUBSCRIBE BUTTON. And we'll have more episodes as we hit towards the end of the regular season here and maybe on into the postseason. We both work playoffs for for the network on radio and TV so We'll be around the rings we'll be able to see a lot going on in the NHL but still a lot to get done here for The kings towards the end of the regular season. We thank you so much for tuning in see next time..

"Once the puck drops I think I'm as critical as anyone on breakdowns and mistakes But overall my expectation for the group is that they weren't GonNa do well in the standings so I have to taper I believe I taper my commentary based on that and that will change from year to year to year. You Go back to the twelve and then I was pretty hard on them because I felt twelve. I got you know before the season started. I said I will not be surprised if the Kings Win. The Stanley Cup. And he said I don't think their favorite but I won't be well all year long now. I'm looking and they weren't good until the very end. So you're looking for all these things and that's the coach's again like I don't know why going back to the coach. But there's a lot of coaches who nowadays feel when the team's doing well that's when you get on them when they're not doing well that's when you back off so it's been interesting to see how. Tampa's responded to a year in which last year they were just fine and this year all right well. They've had good stretches but we know John Cooper's been hard. I WANNA keep moving on here. We got a couple of quick hitters that I wanted to get to first of all news item. You brought up to me. Jim Olympic participation. We talked about that on the podcast. We we actually outlined the issues of It's more the marketing rights than it is the the fees and the insurance and whatnot and I know that that was a recent development that came out just a a an initial report that the I H F and the IOC seemed to be leaning towards the fact that yes they should be paying more and they should open up the marketing rights. You brought it up so well earlier on a podcasts for you cannot use replace the NHL so a lot of people say they should be at the Olympics because it promotes the game worldwide. It's the chance to increase what's going on. It makes the NHL product that much more. Attractive will believe me if the study showed that the NHL profited and we're more attractive. After Olympic Games. They would be in every Olympic Games. The studies have shown that does not happen. A big part of that is when you go home at night and watch the replace. You can't see anything there's nothing the NHL NHL Network. They can't show these things because of the handcuffs put on them if that opens up. And it's interesting so now you have the NHL PA and the NHL also as part of the same negotiation who holds the biggest Card right now say the NHL because the PA will lean towards doing it I think the NHL as a group will lead towards not doing it the PA though is only representing ten percent of the players in this though because the other ninety. Don't get a chance to play. I think that the true wildcard factor here is this China a market that right now is untapped as far as the H. L. Goes and I think we all realise on a worldwide global basis market is starting to really take over. So if you can tap into that I think that changes the mind of the NHL and the NHL even just a small percentage and that that may be the part of unlocking the video and marketing rights. That we don't even see here in the states it. You'll notice it whenever you watch a documentary on hockey. The talks about Olympics at least in the last ten fifteen years. You don't see video. It's all still footage when you're in an arena and you're looking Oh ho you know this guy's you're honoring for thousand Games right you play a little video tribute when they're looking at the Olympic stuff? It's all still photos. So that's what will change over time. I think the actually realizes this'll be my last on this one because we have to go or at least move to the next is that the probably sees positive that the NHL can bring to them. It's one of the few times the sport can bring the the Olympics are the ultimate I think they can even better with the help of the NHL no down and especially in a market that is not as used to hockey participation. In China One thing I saw recently as well Gm's are considering mandatory wrist guards for next year and this follows up a discussion. We've had with Alec Martinez who got cut pretty badly on his wrist. It is gnarly. You know how Alec can be. He's very deadpan. But I don't even know how he was able to keep a straight face talking with US based on the trauma. The he underwent emotional. What yeah he But I asked him. Do you want that me said no? It's a fluke injury and yeah. It happened a couple of times this year. But it's a total fluke injury but now GM's are considering making this stuff mandatory like a sleeve that would go up almost to the palm of your hand that would protect you in that area where it is exposed occasionally to sharp objects when you think. I am always in. The camp of the athletes should be the final determination of whether you're GonNa do that having said that if I'm unemployed painter and might players missing time due the something I can prevent on looking into it very seriously all you need is a buffer period. I think you need enough time for players to get used to it so again you would announce it now you would not take effect until a year from now or maybe two years from now so you give the players at least that time to get used to that type of equipment. I've never been a fan of the idea that players some can wear a visor because they're grandma and some don't have to because they're grandfathered in make everything standard we're going to have. Rules should apply to all players at all times. Sure make it a gradual period with okay. It's GonNa Start for the when Seattle comes in the League. Twenty one twenty two. This is all mandatory. Start getting used to them now. These guys are professionals. They can get used to it yes they can. I I I lean the other way I lean towards the person. The athletes having the opportunity to pick the equipment that uses but I also do again so I get an IR injury now. That was prevent. Now that doesn't happen. That's going to go away to write because advisors but a lot of things. We always have to come back to the liability issue. The legal issue was okay. Could adviser reasonably protected that player? If that's the case and you look at it that way but again if I'm the employer goes back to helmets warm-ups Doesn't happen very much. Still players don't have it but you know the puck comes off the crossbar next the guy in the head in the corner if you had a helmet on he would be able to play. That game. Can't play because there's a twelve inch gash in his head in the warm up falls on the ice during the moral pitches at all. So there's little things like that that I think. We'll be buttoned up last one. I've got and then we'll take some questions we've seen some injuries coming out of the bye week. In the all star Break Connor mcdavid some knee trouble that dates back to last year. But it's flared up again Steven. Stamkos has been out a game or two recently. Drew doughty his first practice. This isn't this. Is the Kings Ironman four hundred sixty plus consecutive games without leaving the lineup in the regular season his first practice after the bye week gets hurt? I we talked about this coming out of the bye week. This felt too long. We were off for ten days. We had the five day break. The couple of days for the All star break were player activities are out there and then there were three practice days which may have been a quirk in the schedule but it felt way too long. This time around it did not feel too long to me. Alex birdied number nine at the stadium. Carson PJ West. Now did not feel long at all. I I was. I was a little bit going batty because it was a little bit too long too much time off. I do know this that. The teams in each team's fitness departments. Look at that element as a completely different part and they have a specific plan to make sure the players are not going to be rushed back in when they come back in and has to be a little bit slower. I I'm an agreement with you. I think they will look at the ten daybreak and try to get them down to five daybreak. I know it's Nice. How they do it. They attach it along with the All star break with your five daybreak and that makes it a break or twelve. Depending on what happens I think they will look at that. They already have made adjustments as we know in the past where teams that had the break. We're playing teams. Didn't have the break and it was like ninety percent win for the team did not have the break because your body has to go through readjustment to get back up. I I don't like the idea of attaching into the all star break now. I benefited greatly in a personal sense from this long break. Because I got today. May I got to go to Australia and cover the tennis down there in Melbourne? But boy I'd be I'd be more than happy to give that up to have a few more days during the regular season and I'm sure the trainers and the strength staff with love that as well or about five five five day breaks. I think maybe again. That's where again scheduling becomes more difficult and a whole bunch things. But I agree. I think that everyone is looking at it. Perhaps being too long then expecting the athlete to get back up to speed in three days playing the game. It's very difficult thing to Christmas. Break is probably about the perfect length. Now granted these guys can't really take vacation. Kabo in the middle of the Christmas break. But it's three days so if you WanNa go home if you wanna go see somebody see some family for that holiday you can. It's just a short turnaround. I did it I I went back saw. My family in New York left on Christmas Eve saw them. Christmas Day came back boxing day. You can do it if you really want to. You can only do it Alex because you have the nutritional value of Janis pizzas gets Janis. The pizza you go boom fuel up on your background on a loaded up with onions. I don't know when you were thinking on that. That's a sticking point with him. I asked for onions. I did not load unions. I did not put the onions on the pizza. When you go to a New York pizza shop and you ask for topping you. Had you get whatever you get man? You can't be picky about what I got some more onions. I wanted you ask for onions. You got onions. This was your fault. I never complained about the amount of abundance. I received because it was grow complained about my pizza. I did because it was gross. Pepperonis fine onions. Not so much. All right let's take some questions here. Eric Giesen asks and I'm GonNa paraphrase because he's got a pretty long one if you're privy to any sort of juicy hockey stories that maybe now you'd be able to divulge after after some years of Maybe like the nondisclosure agreement goes away some kind. Do you have any off the top of your head. Jim Fox not Jim. `Bout Yeah I you know. It's I think I think the farther you get away from your playing days the more you think about things that I think you become a little bit freer to speak about ex teammates and things of that sort a butter Actually like currently as a member of the media I.

"And everything going on in boxing and now a man who I wish was called the Boston leader. It's sort of like getting who punched in the face. Well welcome back to another episode of the SL boxing. podcast glad you could join me this week because we have a little bit of a different type of episode. There's a lot of talk about what Fox is doing in boxing. They've really invest heavily in the sport. They've done a lot of promotion ocean on their big platforms and a lot of great shoulder. Programming they've also heavily invested in the pay per view business. And that's led some people to wonder about the future of boxing with Fox how to showtime fit into that mix. I was over at the Fox studios this past week had a chance to sit down with Bill Wang. Who is the top executive at Fox? When it comes was to boxing program we covered all the base? It was a really terrific conversation. We went back and forth on a few different issues which I appreciated from Bill. He was very Forthright in some of his feelings about the state of boxing and we talked about pretty much everything. You'd want to talk about when it comes to Fox programming and boxing stick around for that great conversation with bill winger at Fox sports quick housekeeping note. If you like this podcast is a very easy way can support it head over apple podcast post a comment leave a rating. It's simple it's easy it's free. It's the best way to make sure that we keep doing this. podcast week after week. That's it all right. Let's go I built. Winger is here Executive Vice President had program and scheduling over at Fox bill for the purposes of this audience. Explain what that means. Your title means for boxing. Well first of all thank you for for having me for boxing it means Taking a look at a calendar year figuring out where the different events will go on various platforms whether it's Fox Fox the Portes F s one pay per view And working with the PBC and creating that schedule so all complaints addressed to you right because boxing twitter is not a very even keeled social platform. Yes all complaints to to me of course following you on social media. It's been I believe a little over years. Since you formally announced the deal with a multi year deal with the platform platform. I just give me your overall sense of how it's been year one. Is it what you expected. Different better worse than how you laid out It's it's what we expected You know we were in business with the PBC and Al Hayman under a different contract prior to the end of two thousand eighteen eighteen so we were familiar with the process and the boxing world. And I think what changed was the volume. I'm and the pace of it in terms of having multiple fights to fights a month sometimes three That was really the biggest difference. What what was it that made you want to to be in business with? PBC without him. What was it last was about two years that you were doing the time buy model that? Yeah so he had a more of a time buy model. It was really a couple of things number one the the stable of fighters that the PBC and Al Hayman have is you second-to-none they have close to one hundred seventy fighters You know all the top names in the Qiwei classes welterweight heavyweight eight. The one hundred fifty four is the one hundred sixty eight so that was the number one draw Working with Al.. We built a really good relationship with him That was another draw and I also think it was the right time in boxing. In terms of the there was a great crop rop of boxers coming into their own Errol Spence deontay wilder Kayla plant. And we felt that we could grow these personalities and boxers into stars develop. You've done that or headed that direction. You're one KAYLA plants a good example. I think a lot the people were alerted to his story. Because of what you you how you promoted him. Yeah Caleb you know. His first fight was on F s one in January Two Thousand Nineteen He's been on Fox broadcasting a number of times and he will begin in twenty twenty Yet yeah so that we can invest in and grow and tell his story We've had a lot of shoulder. Program produce not only on him but but but all the fighters there's and we've really exposed boxing in the PBC to to a mass audience. We're really in the business with with the PBC for the long term mm-hmm and to grow boxing. And we're doing that by putting it on our broad platform like Fox and F s one and we have a different model than some some of the other entities that are working with with boxing. And to that end you've done I think Fox and a really good job at showed the shoulder program part of it of promoting molding all these fights on their platforms and you guys have really made a strong investment with with all the things that go around fights me. was that the plan kind of going in that. We're not only GONNA be in the boxing we're GONNA make sure we use. NFL on Fox and all your biggest platforms to promote this stuff. Yeah I mean our goals to grow the sport of boxing to grow the brand to grow The profiles of these fighters. You know we just had our first fight camp episode for the deonte wilder other Luiz Ortiz. Fight A week ago after an NFL single header and delivered over two million viewers. So yeah we're really exposing in this programming and these fighters to a whole new audience and you mentioned Kayla plant in that video on January. I thought that fight got a massive boost off of what was it. The cowboys game I think was on that afternoon. And it led to a really significant number on F S. One Yeah It was about three quarters of a million viewers on F S One. Yeah we had playoff playoff football promoting into that Kayla plant fight so it's a way that we're using our assets to to grow these fighters and grow the sport when something like that happens to you. Look look at it and say all right that this is proof that our promotional muscle behind it works situation list for a fighter like plant a good fighter but not the most well known guy out there. Yeah absolutely you know the exposure that the promotions inside baseball and NFL soccer Nascar College Football College basketball It it's it's extremely valuable And that's one one of the reasons why the PBC wanted to be partners with us when when zone came onto the scene right around the same time as you kind of ink that deal with PBC One of their mottos. If you will was pay per view is screwed like their whole thing was pay per view is is done. This is going to be the new model you guys have turned turn around and it just seems pay per view is something your heavily invested in doing for the most significant fights. Why have you chosen kind of to go that route with pay per view? Well we just think it's a great opportunity to reach directly to to the fan base. It's also important to remember that you know we're only doing about four to five pay pay per view year. The vast majority of our fights are on Fox and NFS one. We'll have ten fights a year on Fox about twelve fights by two year. NFS One and as four to five on pay per view We just felt it was a great way to to to reach the audience Much more so than you can do on a direct to consumer platform like a disown or ESPN plus at this point so so And there hasn't for awhile in the Two thousand thirteen to two thousand sixteen. There wasn't a lot of pay per view happening and we felt we could bring it back with with some of these top fighters. Do you eat you do a lot of fights obviously on Fox and won the top fights though continue to go over to pay per view. I mean how do you envision that kind of balance working moving forward you see you know Fox. Having a you know spence porter type of fight wilder Ortiz type of fight on Main Fox in the future. Yeah I can definitely see that You know I think the the biggest names the the wilders dispenses and the pack Yau's For the most part I think right now will be on pay per view but we could take for example and Arrow spends fight And put it on Fox to grow that fan base even more. Is that for budget reasons that you're you keep it on paper view. It's one of the reasons I mean. It's you know we do get some revenue obviously from the pay per view And you know it is a strategy ars to bring in additional revenue stream so that is You know that is the plan. And you know we're we're we're only going to have four or five of those a year. You know for the best of the best fights from what I've been told you guys do really well most digital pay-per-view streams over indexing on them is that fair to say yeah I mean right now the digital digital streaming represents anywhere from ten to twelve percent of the total is. It's a pretty significant number. Two two previous pay per view models. Yeah and and that number is growing so You know we've built a platform for digital pay per view Where people can buy ahead on any device and cast it on their large? TV If they want to watch it on their phone their IPAD And you know we. He's still obviously are working very closely with the traditional. MVP DIS on selling the fights. Do you to go back for a second to the idea of putting a major the vent on Fox one of the things I I thought would have been interesting going into the spence porter. Was I believe you just had that smackdown deal and you had it was. There was a Friday night before or the Spencer Porter fight in the middle of football season. I was curious because that's a high level fight. How much muscle? How much your muscle would be worth in a situation like that? We're having the ability to put promotion on the Fox football stuff to promotion on. Maybe on smackdown stuff did that. I mean does that something that you think about that just sort of when you have all these assets to be able to Kinda put them all into that. Yeah I mean if you look at the dates of our papers that we've done so far. They are strategically replaced in in months where we have a significant promotional platform so fox will will typically have more pay per views in the fall than we do at any other time of the year because of the promotional platforms of NFL and postseason baseball in college. Football how does it work. I think a lot of people curious. How the relationship without and with Fox works and it comes to putting fights on the air I guess is there is there? What's the process that it has to go through? Well you know Al and his team there. They're matchmakers we definitely give some input..

"Think if you're disney one of the the rule shortfalls in disney story is that they do not have a succession plan for bobai her they they had a very welldefined one up until two or three years ago when it all fell apart and since than they have been scrambling and they have not been able to identify you know an extra no candidate or an internal candidate and it doesn't really seem to be anybody on the horizon said this might fulfil one that their needs if a all were to work out so it crazier things it seems of have happened but this would certainly be right at the top what do you think the price tag it's going to be for disney it depends kind of what assets they buy but you know the numbers that we've run um you know he put all the assets together that presumably that they're looking at it could be fifty to sixty billion dollars of enterprise value so and then what fox will be left with would be kind of a remain co which would be the fox news cable network the fox broadcast network and a couple of other assets their net would be and fox sports one and that will be a much much smaller company and then the question be what are the murdoch's do with at smaller company and then i think the expectation is they would probably remerged it into a news corporation which is that company that houses all of their print businesses the wall street journal and all their papers around the world and maybe create a little bit of a bigger company that way so there's lots of pieces out there the bankers are working a crazy hours i'm sure trying to make sure everybody ah in every all the pieces fit together and just trying around the hit around james murdoch and the cultural fat or lack thereof with disney rice that's kind of mine pot or really is and you know did disney being the family of friendly company and fox of you know on across all of its portfolio of assets kind of be much more out there on the edge in terms of the program that it studio produces the tv shows the art simpson's of the world and so they're very very different culturally uh but i think the the asset.
