Fresh update on "flyers" discussed on The Clapper Report
"Compared to the devils The i don't totally mind their defense. And i think third duo in nets much better. I like Ms lincoln's at the corporate follow us good to do so. I think that there are a little bit more solid in net which is a bigger thing. Criminal then I don't know. I think he's someone who had corpuscle and blackwood on his fancying last year. At some point let me just say i would much prefer black with most nights all right so teams could be wrong. I could be wrong. Which is more often than not on this podcast. A ho. Don't take my word to series. Here give me your number six beginning of wrong number six. Have the flyers. Yeah okay okay. Whoa okay how's the flyers number six. They were not good last year Carter heart was the biggest question mark last season. I think by question mark i mean it was a negative mark him last year so this year i expect him to bounce back a little bit But i just who do they lose this seat this off season. I forgot who it was. Somebody defensively right. But then they brought in ryan ellis ripe they. They brought in wrath crystalline and ryan spare. Who was on the decline and they were benching him so you know maybe they did. Make a step forward on defensive. More than i thought but they didn't do anything last season. I mean you have On the squad. I can acton. He's pretty good. So maybe i do have a little. Oh but i didn't like the flyers last season. i always don't like the players. I hate them every season but I'm not sold on carter heart. I don't think he's a great grade on goaltender like everybody was typing up to be. I know he had a really good season that one year. Or maybe two years was it But last season sold it for me that he's not going to be good and i don't think he's going to do too much better. This season They did make bit of defensive adjustments though. So who knows maybe they maybe they do go much higher So yeah if we were concerned that we were taking each other's Rankings than you don't have to be concerned now Number six the rangers. So i think that they got this off season i think losing butchnevich for ryan reeves and That right there is just ridiculous. Terrible asset management All because of tom wilson. They really did all that. It's completely stupid So who knows if house gordyev stays during the season and who knows if cavaco Alexi laughing will actually break out the season. I'm not convinced that they will The best players in perrine fox are going really needs to carry the team They're also super young. Just like the devils are So i'm not convinced that they're gonna do anything this year. I think it's gonna be a repeat last year. Interestingly they get dummy by the capitals.

Black Church's 'Street Team' Encourages Connecticut Residents to Get Vaccinated
"Connecticut, a historically black churches, sending teenagers door to door over the summer to encourage residents to get the covid vaccine. Connecticut has one of the highest vaccination rates in the country. But it is a very different story in the town of Waterbury. Here's Ali Oshinsky from Connecticut Public radio. Police. Taylor is hitting 10,000 steps a day. A lot of them on hills and up to front doors to ask crime, ma'am, Are you interested in taking the Covid 19 vaccine? This person already got hurt. Oh, great. So I think we left the information Flyer. Yeah, right at your door. So if you do know anyone who's not vaccinated you can share with them. Thank you. Taylor is 15 and she's part of the Grace Baptist Church Street team. Every weekday morning, she and seven other teens pair up and walk around Waterbury, knocking on doors to have conversations like that one. I'll try to do you know my little bit what we do have people back at the church that will, you know, walk them through. There were ease. The process starts with the street team. Residents get a knock and a flyer. The teens were trained to ask a few questions and take down a phone number. If there's interest someone from a phone bank can call later to arrange an in home shot or transportation to a vaccine clinic. Grace Baptist pays the teens $15 an hour with funds from a state vaccine equity program. The pastor Christopher Reese, says this church is trying to make it as easy as possible for Waterbury residents to get their shot. Especially in black communities. My church, I think, is maybe 90% vaccinated. Why? Because their leader, their pastor has been pushing it now races trying to be that leader beyond his congregation. Connecticut ranks near the top for the percentage of residents that are fully vaccinated. But Waterbury lags behind the numbers are especially low among the city's black residents. Just around a third are fully immunized.
The Creation Story of THRV With Founder & CEO Jay Haynes
"Jj haines has always been interested in tech just like his dad in nineteen seventy nine. His dad bought and brought home an apple two plus though he was using it for his business to do spreadsheets. Jay began writing code so he could play video games for free riding his games and basic. It's worth noting that this was back when you had to pay a quarter to play video game. His dad was a navy pilot and hobbyists sailplane flyer which j. flu as well even to thirty thousand feet in the air as he says he got grounded as soon as he got married and had four kids early in his career. J. got into finance and quickly became familiar with using debt to get equity returns however he was always interested in the core innovation of why customers buy new products and why they switch throughout his career his time at microsoft schooling start obliged etc. He found out that no one really had the secret sauce innovation. He started evaluating new ways to do it and came across the jobs to be done theory which became the foundation to what he's built. Today this is the creation story of thrive at thrive we build enterprise product management software for product teams are software is built from the ground up around methodology known as jobs to be done and jobs we don in its very simplest form. Is the idea that your customers are actually not buying your products. What they're doing is hiring it to get a job done. If you're on a product team and you want to create a product strategy and a product roadmap that is going to be successful. meaning it's going to generate more customers and it's gonna get customers to switch from your competitors to your product to build that kind of product strategy you should think about your markets in terms of the job. Then you're costumer is hiring your product to do rather than just your product in your features. We mentioned music before. Because i view on eight tracks cassettes cds. What's interesting about that. Market is a great example. Job done so the job. There is to create a mood with music. That's what we're doing whether you're using a record seedier streaming service or string quartet you're trying to create a mood with music and that job is the same. It's never gonna change. So the power of the method behind our software is it gives teams stable target to aim at and try and

ON24 Chief Marketing Officer Steve Daheb Describes The Hybrid Future Of Marketing
"Yesterday we talked about basically the transition. We've all gone through not just for marketers. Where probably relatively familiar with webinars and digital events but there are other industries that were forced to go digital. And now we're sort of faced with this new normal of we've all understood the power of digital technology and digital events but we kind of are used to going to in-person events so we're facing this hybrid future of marketing. Talk me a little bit about what that means. What is the hybrid future of marketing to you. When sort of interesting thing to think of his since we have gone through this change in cheer point we've experienced these benefits of digital engagement. It's like as we move to including physical events in our marketing in our engagement. How do we make sure that we still retain those benefits that we've all enjoy going to digital i whether it's extended reach or his idea continuous engagement for the first person data or even were able to get a lot of this data on the integrated into our ecosystems. And so i think what we found was a lot of us just sort of had to move to digital first and then i think like so many things. Maybe you're forced to do that. I don't know my dad or mom amy. Do you realize there's actually worse in. It's sort of a better way. But i do think for many less. We do want to get back to more of a hybrid type rudge so blending that digital engagement with physical and one of the things that we're looking at doing hopkin to our customers about is actually how to trade a single integrated call it simultaneous experience for both in person and virtual attendance because that gives you the benefits of maybe not. Everybody's gonna comment verse or a lot of companies. Ray able to broaden their reach instead of getting people at a particular location that they have a flyer to disengagement web in our. Let's use sort of anybody at ten wherever they want. And you can rerun it or have it on demand so one of the things that were focused on is providing what we're calling hybrid audience engagement. There were audiences whether they're physical or virtual. They can do the same presentations they can interact with the same digital content. They can participate in the same polls and surveys request trials or demos in. Even we'd have this idea of breakout rooms. Were once a presentation. Estan bunch of those to jump out into breakout rooms in network. Imagine you can do. Hybrid breakout rooms. Where those who might be in person as well as those who might be attending remotely can still network together so we think it's interesting how it's gonna
Flyers Trade Shayne Gostisbehere, Draft Picks to Arizona
"The Coyotes got a 2nd and 1/7 with the player and gave up nothing. And so which again? I'll say right now. It should not be called a trade because that is not a trade that is a gift. The Flyers GM said that Seattle's price to do the same thing was way higher. Yeah. Like Really Well, maybe Seattle misread the market badly, if if that's the case. They didn't do a single

"Jordan. heathrow this is the big story adam. Rogers is a senior correspondent at wired where he writes about science and miscellaneous ski korie and today joins us to talk about vaccine lotteries. Hey adam hello there. Why don't you start by telling us. Because it's such a neat idea. That kind of showcases both sides of this tell us about what united airlines is. Yes this is a fascinating example. And it's especially interesting to me because it's it's a a. I'm not sure how to say this in the right way. It's a non-state actor right. It's not a. It's not a government using this approach right so united airlines out of desire both to encourage people to get vaccinated against covid nineteen and also a great deal of self interest after a lot of conversations internally what they adopted. Was this idea that if that anybody who flew and who signed up for mileage plus which is their frequent flyer loyalty program you know you get miles points for every time you fly and uploaded their vaccination card in the us. You get a little card that says you know people sign the pharmacist. Who ever sign says. Yes you got your shots. Bright would be entered into a sweepstakes a lottery and the prize. There were a bunch of different prizes but the big one the grand prize was a year of travel for to anywhere. The united flies in united's like super first class up in the front of the plane that nobody ever gets. Cause they close the curtain. Where there's good food. And i don't know really nice stuff. It's really nice. I wouldn't know about. I don't know i've only heard rumors. Apparently it's pretty great and so that that became the inducement. What united wanted to do is say yes. We want people to fly again. We want people to get vaccinated. We want people find united. Here's the reward. the you might win these fabulous prizes.

"It no and certainly and when you talk about successful obviously you can talk about it from two different ways. If you're looking strictly at stanley cups yeah you can. You can argue all day about that. But from a financial perspective and from a market perspective the flyers have been one of the most successful teams in the nhl since nineteen sixty seven. I mean they've they've consistently sold out that building Almost year after year Up up through the last few years but in terms of minor hockey you had to a pretty serious minor hockey franchises in philadelphia after the flyers. Were already there. You're the firebirds run for about six years in the city in the seventies and then you had the phantoms run for about thirteen years in the city from from nineteen ninety-six to two thousand nine and both of them had different levels of success. The firebirds were pretty successful ultimately relocated to syracuse and the phantoms. Were perhaps the most successful american league franchise of their thirteen years. I mean they they really helped prop the ahl up at a time. They were battling for minor leagues premacy with the international league. So it's interesting to see like you said the that philadelphia support two different teams A major and a minor league team and one of the reasons is because the two don't really compete with one another at least in the modern hockey market back in the nineteen thirties. It was much different. But in in the seventy s you know a minor league team Was a ticket for minor. League team was much cheaper than nhl team and for sure in the nineties when the phantoms came about i think at the time flyers tickets were maybe like forty fifty dollars for lower levels seat and a fan of stick. It was five dollars. So you're not competing for the same consumer at that point so from a business perspective does make sense in a hockey mad market to to to put a minor league team to support the major league. Team it really helps generate the next generation of fans who at least in the seventies with the firebirds could not even get ticket to the flyers because they were winning stanley cups and sold out every night and in the ninety s may not have been able to afford flyers tickets necessarily and so it really creates an opportunity for families young kids to see a hockey game in a way. That doesn't break the bank. Eighty costs you know thirty forty dollars for family ford to see a game for the phantoms. Let's say in the nineties whereas it costs hundreds of dollars to see a flyers game family of four and so you see from a business perspective. How it makes sense especially market as big as philadelphia. Yeah sure that makes sense an and but it's also interesting dynamic though is a little different than say here in chicago right. So the the wolves right became more of a suburban lower cost fun filled minor league heavily. Promotional dynamic versus the in city big market if you will Blackhawk thing the the geography and the stadium situation in philadelphia. Quite different right. Absolutely you've got what's called the sports complex philadelphia and it's it's funny. Because when i was a kid. I never understood that. That was unusual. That a city put all of their sports stadiums in the same little area. I would go to utter cities and you know you go to new. York and madison square garden was in the middle of manhattan. And yankee stadium was over an east and i. I don't understand why you wouldn't put all the stadiums together. And i never understood that philadelphia was unique to that and so people outside philadelphia may not realize that you know at one point..

"All captured the attention of sports fans throughout north america. Well i was in the record business years ago. A friend of mine and i were having a drink to the new york city and he said look. I got an extra ticket to the garden tonight. the rangers are playing montreal. And i said what's that all about and he said well. It's the hockey league which to mass yoko. Everything else do that night. So we went to the old guard. And i fell in love with the game. Instantaneously is without question. Great a spectator sport. I had ever seen the buildings or foam. They'd been full for years. And years and the competition between the six teams who was absolutely at its highest writing that popularity. The time had come to enlarge the sixteen league. I heard that the national hockey was expanding from six to twelve teams. I thought that it would be great. To apply. for a franchise. Ed snider who was working with the philadelphia eagles at the time thought the city of brotherly love with fall for hockey just like he did. But other cities were applying and philadelphia's his in hockey was not good all the other applicants for the six franchises were from cities that had pretty successful minor league hockey operations for for a number of years toward off was the only one that hadn't they had seven or eight minor league teams that it failed or been one quickly aborted attempt in the thirties to have it. Nhl team so there was no history of philadelphia really being an effort at all. However ed snider along with bill putnam and others persisted and on february ninth nineteen sixty six. Their hard work was rewarded. This is the year of the great expansion for the first time. The league will be composed of tall teams. Clarence campbell presider ads. The teams entered the league the philadelphia flyers minnesota north stars..

"When they were doing production of card they when the episode with the rikers Michael Dorn in the visited the set and so these people are still a super closed in real life. I would not be shocked to see a wharf or laforge comeback into Picard at the same time or maybe separately but it was. It's definitely going to happen. It's just a matter of when and WHO and he even said. Burton goes into while if if Jordan did come back. This is what I would want him to do. I'd want him to be teaching and passing on the knowledge that he learned throughout his career. So those are very specific notions and ideas. That he wants so wouldn't surprise me if it's already in the works However sad news the have been doing although writing cards season two but they haven't actually gone into shooting and they were planning to do it this summer but it's been pushed back to Kobe. Nineteen for safety reasons and I completely agree with that. It's just it's a bummer. Because there may be some big gaps between Picard season one and hopefully discovery season three comes out on time but this is hard to say because of the safety issues with Kobe. Nineteen and social distancing however it is nice to see maybe we'll get some Burton action in the future speaking of Kovic. Nineteen kind of wrecking everything. We're going to start out with some a little bit bad news in rapid with some good news as we finish this relaxed fit episode is that. I'm sure you've probably already heard but comic con. San Diego has officially been canceled. He was originally going to be for the weekend of July. Twenty third through the twenty six and in a I mean I I agree with shutting things down I know that seems super far out but to have that thousands and thousands of people from all over the world is a smart concept. And if you're angry about that I mean it's it's for the greater good and trust me. Nobody understands cancellations more than me personally. I'm a marathon runner and it's very difficult to plan for a marathon. Because you have to have at least three or four months of training all these cancellations of come out and it's like wow. I've just wasted the last three or four months for nothing and I'm registered for the Chicago Marathon. The beginning of October and then one called the Marine Corps Marathon at the end of October. And everybody's gas because it's like they're probably going to be canceled. Should I even begin training? I understand cancellations and how frustrating they can be and then you lose a bunch of money on plane tickets and hotels but there is a little bit of good news out of this. Is that the Convention Center that they've been using for the San Diego. Comic Con has actually been turned into temporary hospital in slash cove in nineteen testing area. So I think that's an amazing use of those resources instead of remaining empty and it's frustrating. But you have to think the quicker we can beat this the quicker we can get back to normal so. I know it's frustrating some bad news. However here's a little bit of good news and to help again kind of in the same vein as the cocktails with Kate is that there are a lot of new streaming services that are coming out with this watch. Party APPS and watch party capabilities one of them is from paramount and they will be holding live virtual screenings of Star Trek to wrath of Con. The closest one will be April twenty fifth through an APP called. Cya Live not cover here. It's called Cya. Live and I think you can pay a dollar ninety nine to be a part of this live streaming and it seems a little much but they are bringing in two special guest host. They are the host of the inglorious experts Whose names are mark. Altman and Darren door chairman and they will be doing a intro to the movie and they're doing a QA afterwards but the cool thing about Cya live is that you can talk and communicate throughout the movie with the guest and then with whoever's involved while watching the movie so it's a cool concept at kind of in the same vein as the Netflix. Watch party. No you haven't heard of this. It's a chrome extension. The netflix came out with that. If you're on a desktop or laptop you can share specific code. Your friends and you can watch Netflix together. In this kind of private room where you can chat and talk about which. I think is totally cool and I need to do that. Because there's so many good Star Trek episodes that I can watch with some of my friends so I encourage people to do that. He doesn't have to be Star Trek but try to watch party together. I thought about doing that something on like an instagram live. Kinda just held the social distancing and maybe not have people seem so far apart and alone so you can do that on net flicks however Amazon prime is starting to work with twitch. Now I've never used twitch before because I'm not a huge Gamer. But they're trying to work out. Some Dior Amazon prime members can use the twitch software to have the same thing. Have the same watch party. Nothing's been announced yet. I think it's still in Beta testing. So if you WANNA be a tester for that I would definitely go to twitch DOT TV if your name is on. While he was here doesn't how many times how many games has been bishop. goalies have been good here. Yes yeah five. Five years tenure net. Before that. That's the real reason I bring that up because this is the sort of thing that when I used to write for the Royal Half Dot com you Takafuji. This is the sort of thing that we would. This is our bread and butter. Daniel Taylor and I see you're right but I went on record at the time when he and quick were. Both Berry Bros Roster bust but this is. There's there's already there's three or four or five or six accounts and they're all equally supportive cocaine. That's fine. Yeah dig deep into the misery of being a sports fan King Sans. We've just completed the greatest decade in franchise. History it's going to. It's a tall order to have a better decade gate them the one we just had Adam Hauser all. That's that is a good one. How many games twelve one all right there you go you? He gave him eleven too many Ou six goals against he doesn't point zero eight goals get him quick and wasn't him. Quick and Taylor and people are fighting over who should be the starter because it wasn't two thousand eight two thousand nine that now five to okay. I was a little bit earlier but anyway yeah he used stability with me played against him in squirts. Really wow human. His brother Sylvian CUCCIA. Who was unbelievable and unbelievable hockey player? Well that's okay. So I went went to his brother surveying was set our house when they came to play us. He's from Sault Sainte Marie Ontario and then we would go to saint. This is one of ten and we would go to sue St Marie and stay with his family and we used to watch hockey night in Canada and they have it on in French. And so that's the memory ahead of Dan Colucci better memory than most kings. Ah John Sebastian Ban. Wasn't he in a commercial. Eric Harrisburg airstrip is all right. Yeah no it wasn't in the In the commercial whether like having some sort of a yeah contests contests you'll mama offers anyway. Whatever so we go to this game sting wrapping stingrays were so bears? The point is none of those guys could shoot and you could tell really quickly like. Oh yeah this is. Why they're in the east and Brodsky's little brother? I think it was. His little brother was playing on the solar bears. And I'm watching the game and it's like back and forth back and forth to sooners some lumbering goons. That are never going to make it but some guys like some wheels is the hands but they just. They don't have the full package. No Yeah Yeah. They've got one or two things but it was so clear right you watch the H. L.. Sometimes you're like Oh Martin. I play Mary okay. Fine whatever follow back from whatever. The Easy H.. Jelly like wow. "What are your expectations for him this year yeah so let me share a little you know he's last year. He came and i think we broke. We ate goalies playing for us so so <hes> when he came up i think it was after christmas and he came in and kinda. Kinda take took over and he played a lot of games for us. We had a lot of injuries for goalies and what he came in. He kinda relaxed everything. He did a great job in that he made us feel comfortable and for twenty year old to come in and make everybody else feel comfortable. You don't see that often so it's something we're really excited about having a young goaltender like that you know he's young but he doesn't. He doesn't act or play young so he's very mature kid and he's got his head is when <hes> when the puck drops. He's ready to go he. He knows what he has to do. You focus on themselves often. You can't ask for anything else. Good stuff plo jerus- joining us from the philadelphia flyers. I was just a couple more. I was noticing today claude that they're only seven guys in the league have been a captain of their team longer than you have. Do you like that role. Aw and how would you describe yourself in that rule. Yeah i love the role you know to be able to <hes> to be the captain of n._h._l. And i shall team. It's it's a great honor. I don't think we've had the success that we we think we we should have but you know i'm thirty. One people might might say. I'm getting a little older but i don't. I don't feel older so you know. I have a lot of years here to to kind of prove that maybe i can show a little bit more as a leader but the age of hockey <hes>. It's not really one guy that leads. It's it's four or five guys on the team. That's on the same page and and being able to lead a team together and your voices is stronger like that and i think i have. I have some good assistance in doesn't really have to to be an assistant captain. It could be a veteran. That's been through a lot and being able to communicate and so we make sure we communicate together and it's not it it's all about we'll just one guy on a team. It's about four or five guys being able to to be on the same page and share the message fish with the guys on the team he had such great bounceback year two years ago and honestly i should have been right there in the hart trophy discussion over one hundred points after having mm stats wise anyway not your normal numbers so you have over one hundred points in the eighty five points this past season so yeah as an observer. You look like you're right there at aged thirty one looking like the same player. You always have been i wonder have you given any thought visions to how long you see yourself playing this game. Uh since i turned thirty a lot of people ask me that question is how many years you left before and <hes> you know the only answer i got. I gotta go one year time. I'm and i'm gonna play as long as i can. I love the game. I love being a part of a group franchises like the flyers and i'm gonna play as long as i can dan. I'm going to play till they tell me. I'm not good enough so the only thing i can do is summers like this the the summer just make sure i prepare myself the best i can. I'm sure when camp starts. I'm in good shape and i think if i can do that. I can play for a long time so you see guys playing until they're forty forty. One obviously obviously the percentage of that is not high but that's my goal right now closed really a treat to talk to you best of luck in the.

"To take the lead on the flyers Carter heart stood tall for the flyers. What a great young goaltender. He is. But to me, it brings up the fact that the Blackhawks were generating the chances that are necessary. And even though you came away from that game with the loss entered hurts not to get those two points where you happy that they were attacking the way they were I was happy with a lot of it. I think we we didn't give much we created enough. We just didn't finish. I think we could have a little better re net presence, create some rebounds. Maybe find a way to Greece soda more, greedy goal. But I also think we talked about it already yesterday, and we will the future to just manage the puck a little bit better. And because I think most of the chances that they did get came off our turnovers. And if we do that, then we put ourselves in better position to win those two games. You know, the flyers did something during that game a lot of and they do it. Anyway, they block a lot of shots their defense blocks a ton of shots, and therefore it's getting volved as well. You know, you're going to be facing that down the stretch here with every team you play now pretty much to the end all the teams that are rented anyway, and they have a stake in this game. Is there going to be any kind of advice that you'll give to the boys maybe a little bit of a tweak the system to get those shots through? Well, I think the big thing is just a miss the first guy. And if you get behind the first layer them good things are gonna happen. Whether it's a deflection. Are we recover rebound or shot off the backboard, and then another attack, you know, teams are going to block shots? It's a desperate time here. Everyone wants to do whatever they can to defend, but I think it just missed that first guy and then be prepared to react. Now. How about you forward lines? I know that for the game against the Philadelphia Flyers. You were pretty well set you came back with roughly the same configuration you did from the game before against fan. Hoover going into this game here in Colorado. Will you make any adjustments to your forward lines? And now were they look. Yeah, we're not planning on it. Obviously just a little bit of time before the game. But I think we did a lot of good things. And we can't let the result the game diminish what the performance was wasn't perfect. But I I thought we had our chances, and we were solid defensively we played a pretty mature game. Again, just outside. Those those situations or return the puck over in the neutral zone, and we're exposed in transition so stick with it. Keep playing keep playing hard and we're gonna come through yet a great penalty kill against the flyers as well. Where the Blackhawks almost scored it was great to see them generally chances on the PK.

"Of course, six nothing game. After two periods homegrown goes into the dressing room says this is not acceptable for the flyers. And they came out in the third period. And they fought. Contract now. I should say Kennedy run by Simmons. And now ran racing to the Ray every this challenging the Opie saying. Referee going to try to keep that separate. He will be able to do away. They go. His his point as every. His way. As trading with Alexi. For sure. I just thought about that watching that game. So I was surprised, but I wasn't surprised if you understand what I mean, the unique thing about this. We're used to coaches getting fired midseason then happens all the time side of last year happens every year in hockey happens every season seldom if ever do see general managers dismissed during the season that happens at the end of the year at the wrap up. That's it for the general manager. It's new direction. That's leaves me asking questions about this one. How long was this disgust had been going on for a while? The question becomes why? Then why on that Monday? Did it happen? Because it was at a crisis point, it's obvious that look there was a philosophical divide there. There was Ron Hextall stay the course stay the course stay the course were not moving from. The course we're not giving up our prospects were staying the course, and there was Paul homegrown, and Dave Scott. And for those of you don't know Scott is kind of psalm up front for the first time at the media conference. He's the Comcast spectacled chairman and CEO and their sidewise. I just filled in the best interests of the organization. It was time to look for new voice can with the different mindset can can push push the team to the next level. Just want to add on really just Sam quickly to because we talked in length about this decision. And for me, I sort of build it down to one question. You know, I think that we can do better as a team now not two years or three years from now. But now, and I think that answer was yes. And there is a comparison to Edmonton. Because Edmunds, and we talked about why did they change? Todd McLellan for Ken Hitchcock because they looked at their division and said nobody is running away with this our division is not that good. We can still save our season. And my guess is these Scott Owen wherever else was on their side looked at the metropolitan this year say nobody is running away with this. Pittsburgh's coming back Washington's getting going Columbus wins games. But still you're not terrified by anybody there. And you're saying we can still do this. And that says to me too that they believe that the problem was as much what they thought was Ron Hextall intransigents as opposed Dave Hextall's coaching. So the bizarre thing about that is we normally see the effects on the ice when a coach is dismissed, and that's obvious. The coach has the hands on. With the player. There's that kind of relationships you understand how the product changes on the ice when the coach get switched. The general managers one step removed from that sure he can play around the chess pieces and bring in new players an exit players as well. But generally when there's a general manager dismiss you don't see the effects right away on the ice. Now. There was more of a push from the Philadelphia fires next game. All be it. It wasn't a loss against the Ottawa Senators right away. You know, you had Dale we, you know, fighting Ben Harper, and you saw more of a push from the Philadelphia. Flyers ended up losing on a beautiful met Shane goal late in the third period. But still there was that type of fact are we to read into this, then whomever, the flyers higher as their next general manager that will be someone who aggressively moves bodies out somebody who has to present a plan. Absolutely. You're not hiring more of the scene. Now, it's hard to make a trade in this league..

"So they've been very up and down Calgary fourteen nine and one. I think the key for Calgary is going to be the gold sending now David Riddick has come in. And then great, and he'd be my guy. I would continue to roll with David Riddick. Now, they had the back to back. I believe Smith played in the game last night. But I haven't had a chance to double check that. But the bottom line is that. If Mike Smith is not going to respond, David miniature your is your goal, and he's played very very well. He's at nine thirty save percentage. Screw twelve games. You have to have goaltending this leak the Calgary Flames. They've got terrific young players there. Chuck drill Monaghan Lynn home. I mean, the defense which you're down on Brody. And and those guys. It just going to be about the goaltending is the goaltending going to be good enough. And there were two week division. So dateable. Absolutely. It's the stable for Colorado and have a good roster. They just need to get good. Goaltending Riddick continues to do that for them. They'll be fine. Yeah. Smith twenty five saves in the six to one victory for hours on last night. Haywood w says, do you see the Rangers picking up another play via trade to add a veteran presence with the kids? I don't think that's really where they're at. No. I agree. I think that they're like just talked about they have embraced the idea of playing the young players and to a certain degree. It's been pretty successful so far now they've won four shootouts. Therefore, no, knowing the shootout, we talked about that with buffalo. Right. So I mean, that's a plus they've found ways to win those games you take those points away. Just take those four points away and the Rangers now moved from fourth in the metro to near the bottom right there with Philly. So. For me. I think that the, you know, the Rangers are gotta kinda go maybe week to week from a managerial standpoint, they're going to watch their kids. They have in Hartford. They're going to watch the kids they have playing in all over the globe. Whether it be in Europe or in the in the junior leagues and North America. They're gonna keep intending to watch and see how they feel about Kevin Hayes going forward..

"So, you know, the case that guys like me land guys coming out of entry level. I think if if they're your guys that you feel like your core. Gosh view, they have produced. I think you almost you're almost of the situation where you have to pay for future production as opposed how it used to be where you pay for what a guy has done and tried a kind of a level of of production. Because if you wait you end up signing those guys much later in there, you know, at twenty six twenty seven. Now. Now, you're doing an year veal, and you're you're not getting the best eight years of their careers. You're getting you know, maybe three good years, then try to okay years, maybe three years where he meant to think about buying the guy out. So in in the in the case of the Matthews, who's obviously he's gonna get his money, and you know, Barner or and the end or I think you'd like to try to sign those guys for the eight years if you can just because you're getting their best probably their best years of their career. But the problem is in Toronto's case they've got to MIR assigned to a big deal. And they've got the, you know, three really high in young. It's just hard to hard to do the mass as yeah, it's hard to it's hard to do the stuff in a vacuum. Now for sure yeah. Yeah. Rick carpenter L. Of course, you know, him from the athletic. You should follow him on Twitter. He's a great follow for anybody out there looking for some hockey knowledge. I don't know if you saw this tweet from a couple of days ago, maybe yesterday says that the NHL quarter Mark nine of the top fifteen point scores are. Twenty three or younger, including each of the top four rotten file mcdavid McKinnon martyr. Overall, this blows me away forty six point four percent of players to appear in at least one game this season or twenty five or younger. I mean, that's what this league is about. And so these guys gonna wanna get paid. You know what I mean they're carrying teams right now. Yeah. And I think you here's another guy that's going to be interesting grading point in tamp down. I mean, he's probably been their best players. Certainly there amongst most productive players with future off. And what are you gonna pay? Brayden point of his Tampa Bay Lightning and some point down the road of you know, you have rent and then McKinnon, and Colorado, and then, you know, you pay McKinnon you're going to have to pay rent and at some point. So until you see how it's played out there with dry file mcdavid. Those guys are on big big contracts. And that team is really, you know, it's all good when the team is winning. But the team is losing then it's you know, it's more. It's more problematic. Obviously. But it's it's it's amazing. This league is gone young. It's it's a fast league now. And if you can't keep up, you know, you're you're in trouble. And that's the way I look at team like Saint Louis who, you know? Here's the staff where he died at this time last year the blues leading the league in points. They were a top the National Hockey League standings as we discuss we talked today. Your later are thirtieth out of thirty one teams. And I think Saint Louis has their hesitation to embrace the young talented players in their group and push them forward in their lineup has been part of their problem. Yeah. So you know, literally is absolutely about youth. That's absolutely that speed right now. And if you don't have those things in your line of going for you, you're probably looking up, but a lot of things. All right. Let's do a few tweets before. I let you go cool. Okay. All right. Sam has says gentlemen, hope you both had a wonderful. Thanks. Giving day with your loved ones looking at the Western Conference standings. I'm surprised to see Calgary is I in the Pacific Division, is that sustainable do. You think San Jose Vegas or Anaheim will rise to the top? I like San Jose's team still, but they've been so inconsistent. I mean that a nice little run. But really at the end of the day when you're looking at there. Yeah. They're twelve eighty four which means a twelve and twelve right, right? And they both board games and overtime..

"But I mean, heck I'm really happy for him because that's a die hard fan base up there. We know the sports history of that franchise. But hey, things are great in buffalo right now. The bills have won a couple on a row or say here we're role in. I mean. Hey, everybody's out on Chippewa while having a good time right now, you know, when you talk about what a sport needs and very seldom does a sports say we need the buffalo market. But the NHL does. I mean, if you take a look at the Stanley Cup final ratings. It's always a last year. You know, it's it's Vegas going up against Washington. So we are Washington. Be number one Vegas will be number two buffalo be three of Buffalo's always heard sometimes second depending on what the Stanley Cup. Final matchup is they love hockey, they hunger for it to the longtime since they've had a run that two thousand and six six cups should have been. There is no offense to Peter lobby letting the hurricanes, but the the sabers were so the net conference final I think they would be ten in the Stanley Cup. So that was that should have been there championship. They still think about the whole goal against Dallas ninety nine. Now. I'm not talking about Cup for this team. But if they can start moving in that direction, they'll be excited you mentioned Winnipeg is one of the teams that buffalo beat during this. Streak. I mean Patrick line. Aiming this is this is sick. Now what he's been able to accomplish Ellison. It's kind of a wacky stat. But still I player in NHL history to record a hat trick in three different countries in the same season. That's pretty good. I like that. It's three three hat tricks before the twenty third game. Which is something you alluded to on Twitter bossy did four times, but still different era of hockey. But. Listen, we had a conversation back when they when him and Matthews were rookies of and who should be the call to trophy winner. And you said you always leaned towards the center as opposed to a winger. But I say for a winger, I mean, this kids just a flat out star. And as just been a joy to watch while listen he could score. I mean, there's no question. He's Alex Ovechkin two point. Oh, I guess right. If there is such a thing, he's very similar that he's a big physical guy. Got a great relief. He scores with similar areas Lovie, and you know, the funny thing is this guy started off season. And he was a little bit in the slalom people are wondering what's up usually under the goals score?.

"I mean, listen they've been riding away right now in this league. There is not a lot of difference between these teams now we have power more than I've ever seen it. This league for a long time and just for example in the metropolitan division from the capitals at the one spot the devils of the eight there's eight points between them so everybody is is kind of right on top charter. And you know, and the same can be said the divisions and throughout the the Buffalo Sabres or finding a way to win those games. And that's great for them. They have a franchise player Jack Eichel who was found. Someone in Jeff Skinner that he has great chemistry with your skin has just the test. Gators always been a really talented guy. We're talking to Johnny McClain who was coaching Carolina was an assistant Carolina. And he was really impressed with Jeff scanner is just lost. You know, he just said this guy's really talented guy. And he gets to go to buffalo and play with a high end player and I call and he's got eighteen goals now in twenty four games. And I think in sixteen of those of come in the last seventeen games or something some crazy number like that. So they're getting they're getting enough scoring, you know. Golly that's come in. And he's a franchise. Pence men, but he you know, he's a rookie. But he gives them someone. Now, that's another really high end talented player. Rasmi Landon is I think it's certainly a you know, a tough re defenseman on teams in the league. So he's he joins with you know, with Ali. And they've got a couple of veterans back there. They added those veterans than the blues trade with a wily that gives them a deeper roster to begin with. They went out and got Carter Hutton who has come in and played very well, so far he's a veteran guy. That's giving them kinda the belief that they could win games, and Linus ullmark is played. Well, when he's as a young guy who they see my either die down the road. So listen, is it sustainable? No. It's not sustainable to continue to win sixteen to come back and games and win. Everyone goal game win all the shoot outs. It went all these overtime games. But the Buffalo Sabres through twenty four games. So put themselves in a great position to pay perhaps the ploughs this year. And I think they're going to be a team that they're feeling it right now. And if they can stay healthy. And if they continue to get decent goaltending. They're going to be a team. It's just gonna be a. Competitive team and hard to play like, you know, like a lot of teams in this league. Like, I said, I mean, there's just not a lot of different even the bottom one little change or something all of a sudden, they could be I'm not I'm not trying to pour cold water on it. A matter of fact, I joke around with Michael Rapaport who's our stat guy with the Rangers. And he sends out notes before every game. You know, who he is? You see him at the garden and one of the I joke around with him because he always gives a stat. Like when the Rangers. I haven't looked at today's yet. But just for sake of argument, you know, it'll be Rangers and senators, you know, fourteen of the last twenty meetings of a decided by one goal. I mean, you could say that about every matchup as the Rangers. Every game is decided by one goal or two goals because of an empty net. I mean, very seldom no matter how bad a team that you're covering is that you're sitting there with the game already being decided going into the third period that that's how the sport is. But you're right. The positive of it is they in nine straight games against some pretty pretty good. Opponents that they they've been the one to figure out a way to get that last goal. And that's that says something about a team they went in. They went into Winnipeg in Minnesota on back to back night. That's right. That's that's the win those games. And in Minnesota the second of the back to back they were down to nothing and rallying went. Absolutely. So you know, that to me was an eye opener because that is a hard double these days to go on and play those two teams. Yeah. And I gotta give a lot of credit. So we'll see how it goes..

"And you know, the other thing too is that in Philadelphia now, you know, done it when we were growing up tonight or on the flyers. And like when the old man was happy things were good. And when the old ban wasn't happy things got changed, and that's the way work, and and now with Mr. Snider passed away a couple of years ago, and it's kind of a corporate group. You know, the Comcast group that owns the flyers. I'm not exactly sure we'd making the decision, you know there. It's a it's more of a corporate structure. I know Paul homeland is he's the guy that eventually his name gets on the, you know, the release, but you know, how much input comes from. The corporate management structure above him. You know, and how much they have to say in this. So the bottom line is for the flyers. They've got to play better. They've got to figure out their goaltending situation. They've got a combination of some some veteran players that have been playing very very well. And some young players, you know, that they feel can be really good players. So the window for that all gnashing, you know closure. Ruse best years. Jacob four checks best years, even James van ravens cycle. They recently signed as a free agent and was injured for a good part of the season. I mean will they jive with when you know, I've improved RAF is at his best. Then maybe Carter heart becomes the goalie down the road. I don't know still. I mean, that's the window. Can you get all those things at the same window? I'm not sure, but they and the one other thing too is they don't really and it's not a fighting league anymore. We know that there's there's not those types of players, but in Philadelphia, I think they do like to have their team nasty and hard to play against and the flyers have had to fight. At the team this year to fighting majors and they've only come in the last couple of games. And again, not that you're gonna turn your team into the seventy five broad street bullies. But you know, there might be a sense in Philly. Like, hey, we have you know, that's where we are. We have to be a little bit harder to play against and we aren't right now. So there's a lot of things I think the problem what do it? I'll be very curious to see what happens. I didn't think they've axles days along there without Ron Hextall. And there is there is a place in Philly that could go out and could afford to make a deal with Joel when Ville the bringing him good point as well. That's a very good point on. They have the money to do it. Now, it's interesting because you're going to let go of both of them today if you wanted to so we'll see if it's just a reprieve until they can get something worked out with Joel or whether he thinks or the organization believes that hack stall will will be given a couple of weeks to maybe prove that he deserves to stay. But if they had a problem with say Hextall, not firing hack stall that I would think both of. I'm would have gone today. So we'll see if he could take the opportunity. Yeah. It's a little strange. I agree with you. I think it's odd because I think there has been some push especially because we've seen in the last several weeks as I mentioned, the Oilers made to change the things may change the hawks may changed teams. But making changes the blues meta change. It seems like that's the move that comes first. And if nothing else comes in tandem, but in this case suppliers have made this decision. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out over the next several them that should be interesting. All right from the negative to the positive Buffalo Sabres on an amazing run nine game winning streak. But if you dig a little deeper EJ eight of the nine games decided by one goal five of the nine games in shootout or overtime. So is this team that's coming together? And is a legitimate force in the National Hockey League. Or is this a team that you know has been quite fortunate during this nine game run..

"It could easily be me off and on I'm often on death's door Mollison. But then you then you rally your known to rally rally, which is very alternative alternative. Yeah. That or death and believe me, we'll all scrape up enough strength try to avoid that whenever we can. Yeah. Well death in firing. Those are the two things that nobody wants to have happened to them in Ron extol is out in Philly, creative differences for lack of a better phrase. You're reading a statement, they just didn't seem to philosophically believe in the same thing's going forward with the organization. Do you know what those philosophies were? Well, no, I don't. But I would I would speculate on a couple of things I think that, you know, the flyers are underachieving so far this year, you know, their their goal differential is a minus thirteen which is in great. They're they're not been very good at home. They're five six one at hall. Call those losses have been ugly. I was there for their home opener against San Jose. When they got blown out in that game. And it wasn't the only time that they had been blown out on home ice. And they just had an embarrassing loss in buffalo that an embarrassing loss in Toronto. They did actually have a win against the Rangers on black Friday and played well in that game could have been a lot more one sided if it hadn't been for Henry. Plan. So well, so I mean, there's underachievement of there's probably some consternation within the flyers management structure about the future of their head coach, Dave axed, all we've seen a lot of we've seen several coaches moved out ready this year. So there's probably something that we're going to Asian somewhere along the line that probably feel like maybe they need a coaching change or something different day or so that could be something. Also, the new I think during Ronnie's tenure there. He's been very of. He's been very patient, and he's tried to develop as young players, and that's very commendable. And you know, I think there were probably some that are saying, okay. You know what we have goalie injuries? Let's get Carter heart from the minors, regardless of has been just played very average there. And let's elevate them to the National Hockey League level. And I think Ronnie's probably quite back against that. He's fought back. It's the coaching change. But the one thing I would say about, you know, Ron Hextall tenure which has been I would be critical for sure is that if you were gonna look to have a stop gap goaltending group between the time you draft in heart. And when you feel he's going to be ready, and really it's gonna be a while. You had to do better than Brian Elliott, and Calvin Pickard and Michael noisier. There's been a number of goals that have been available over the last couple of years. They signed Ryan Elliott after Brian Elliott, basically was a key element in the Calgary. Flames being eliminated in the playoffs in that particular year. Michael waiver hasn't been able to stay healthy for more than a couple of weeks at a time Calvin Pickard they picked up off waivers. You know, it just seems like they haven't been able to find any stability goal during his tenure. And I think that is another thing that I would say the other stuff we could argue. I don't think we could argue about that. I think that there have been other goals that have been available that would have been better than what they've come up with. And so that and that really to me is one of their biggest problems. There's just no confidence in the Philadelphia. And it makes sense to me everything that you say and the patients we've talked about it here on the show on how they weren't gonna rush heart up. They weren't gonna rush some of their younger players up for a run last year. Even though they worry. To make the playoffs or cosmetically to to soothe any problems this year that there was patients usually it's the general manager. That's chea-. It's the organization that's preaching patients. It seems like it might have been the other way around maybe the organizations Chiba, Iran. Xbox had the philosophy of I want to be patient it usually works the other way around right? I mean, he he was I guess thinking he had all the time in the world and time ran out. Yeah..
