"It is rotten smelling. It's nasty. Cut out. It's like right, but it's inside. I go. Murph. The only thing I can think of is that's a satsuma. And if you've heard us talk about this at all over on the program, Satsuma is have to be harvested. Basically when they're starting to turn green, just a tiny, tiny little bit of orange or yellow on him. Satsuma is have to be harvested way before they turned completely orange or they will rot from the inside. So he fly. He went back. He found the tag. I guess in his borders garage and itwas a satsuma. Like so I said Road back, and this was in text. Then I said, See, sometimes I do know what I'm talking about. Appreciate it, man. You bet. So again. It's not the only subject matter today. But I would like to help everybody with their fruit tree choices because we don't have the fruit tree sales like we once did 713 to 1 to ktrh. We'll get him back a year from now. I'm fairly confident that 713 to 125874. In the meantime, the nurseries in the Garden Center sell the fruit trees. And if they're independent mom and pop shop, they will definitely have the right varieties for this particular area. Um, if you live in counties that you have to be very specific about Citrus trees, work with them on what can and can't be moved, But I think we've kind of gotten past a lot of that. Don't want to get into the legalese on the Non moving from non county. The others, but mostly is independent nurseries and garden centers have what you need. Where you live and great example that is plants for all seasons there to 49. Just south of Jones Road speaking Jones Road. They have been there since the 19 seventies family owned and operated. Still, Victor Flaherty started this operation. Right there to 49 just south of Jones Road, and everything else grew up around a big box stores started popping up on yet he puts the big box store right north of him to shame when it comes to gardening information and the right products. They carry everything I talked about, and then some. Definitely grow a lot of their own color, which I love absolutely love when a nursery grows on color, because I know it's gonna be the healthiest And it's gonna establish so much quicker. They got all the right fertilizers. They were one of the few nurseries and garden centers that jumped in and did one of our book signings during November December so that we could get the books and people's hands for Christmas presents, and they did a great job and They've handled this cove in 19 very well, because it's a big outdoor garden center. So feel confident. Where, yes, strap on your mask. But get on out there. Enjoy everything they have on a beautiful day like today is gonna be in tomorrow, and that is plants for all seasons. And once you go there for the first time, you know, you'll keep going back again and again to 49 Just South Jones Road online plants for all seasons dot com. One day you were serving in the military. Biden announces all-female White House communications team

"The newly minted. Staffers named to the white house office of digital strategy included number of longtime democratic operatives. Many of whom worked for biden's presidential campaign. The group will be asked not only to recreate the digital operation that helped defeat donald but to build out an operation that follows a president who wielded more social media power than any of his predecessors which is what he's done unfortunately so rob flaherty who worked as the digital director of the biden campaign. He's gonna assume. The role of director of digital strategy white house. Jaime lopez will work as director platforms and brandon cohen who previously served as the deputy director of editorial on the biden campaign. He's going to serve as a platform manager of the digital operation. So they're going to be joined by. Jonathan hebron as video director and chronic would as the creative director both of whom held similar roles on the biden campaign as he was running. Biden's digital team is expected to focus on many of the same tactics and help the former vice president's campaign working directly with digital content creators and influencers to expand the administration's reach this builds on work. That was done in the final years of the obama administration where the president would routinely appear on platforms outside the normal venues for the commander in chief. And i think we're learning through like amc and a lot of people that like tiktok and those streaming things are going to be a good way to reach the younger generation. So there's a host of other digital operatives that are going to fill out this office of digital strategy. We got visors designer livia raizner as traveling content director without rebecca rank vic and christian tom as the deputy directors of digital strategy and cameron trimble as the director of digital engagement. All worked on biden's campaign and biden said today after being briefed on foreign policy that he's facing considerable roadblocks to transition especially from trump allies in the pentagon and the office of management and budget. So i honestly. I don't think joe biden is going to be silent about these issues. He's clearly frustrated with the interference from outgoing loser. And i think he's gonna start beginning more vocal about it. Yeah this is kind of an interesting signal right. Because everyone's like oh he's gonna be for unity and he's just going to ignore all that stuff and be super kind but he was kind of pissed today in his public remarks. He's like yeah. I'm facing roadblocks in the middle of a deadly pandemic from the assholes at the pentagon

"Normal schedule of sleep when you can next up. We've got a letter from brian and as a dad myself. I'm excited for this one high ryan. He says great. Podcasts will thank you. I'm a father of a six year old daughter. And i want to get her involved in a sport. Do you have any ideas about how to help her decide on a sports. She'd like to pursue brian. Thank you for the question. And yes something. I can absolutely relate to in my old life. I had a facility down in san diego and we trained a lot of young athletes. There and one of the biggest surprises to me throughout the years of running that facility was seeing how many athletes young athletes that we worked with and trained that ended up finding a sport that they didn't realize they would be good at through training and experimentation with different sports so often we try to influence our kids to play the sports that we played are the things that we experience or enjoy right so like if we love golfer. We love basketball. We'll try to get our kids to play those sports because that's what we did and that's what we want them to experience. But the disservice we can do sometimes is that without broad experimentation across the board and different sports from individual sports like cross country and running to team. Sports like soccer and basketball. What you may miss out on his your child may be predisposed to be exceptional in a sport that you would never know because you don't opportunity to try. We hadn't experienced the young girl who came tour facility. She came with her younger brother. Brother played basketball and baseball and soccer and she didn't play sports but her mom wanted her to exercise and through that we ended up finding she started just to dominate in every single distance. Work our session that we did. They had no idea she would be good at something like that and slowly but surely we started exposure to more track and field distance cross country events and she really latched onto. It started to really enjoy it and ended up competing and earned a scholarship to college playing a sport and otherwise that she would have never played been exposed to just by experimentation. We have a lot of different energy systems and we have a lot of different strength abilities and different sports utilize different energy systems and different strength abilities. Not all of us have all of them and so it's important for you as a parent to get your kid exposed to different sports. that test. Different entry systems at test different strength abilities and see which one they love and have fun with the most and.

"Do you have any thoughts on best practices for night shift or who still wants to feel healthy rested and fit for instance. Is it better to flip to a normal schedule. When i'm not working. Are there supplements or nutritional. Modifications recommend any information be greatly appreciated. Stay safe and healthy. Thank kristie for the question is a great question because i know it affects an upwards of twenty five percent of the population that are night shift workers. And i know what's difficult about. This is you're constantly hearing information about. How positive sleep is for us and how important it is for well being and actually you know in terms of health and vitality and yet you're in a role that doesn't allow that to happen and it's tough to wrap what research has shown over the past few years studying night shift workers. They find that it does alter gene expression. And that we don't flip rhythms be able adapt today sleeping and so it's really really difficult to really understand why you're feeling impaired in terms of your performance decision-making knowing that you're trying to get as much as you possibly can but you're just not getting used to the bummer about it. Is that your body. Probably isn't going to get used to it. And so it's really important to just do the best. You can to simulate night during the day so blackout shades asleep visor. Soundproofing the room as best. You can and just trying to have an honest conversation with your family that like how important it is for you to get a minimum of five hours of sleep and they do the best they can to kind of keep that area of the house or your room as quiet as it possibly can. During that time you want to try to be as natural as possible in any supplements or medications. That would help you. Sleep aren't going to be long term beneficial for you. You did mention getting back to normal schedule. You're not working. I would highly advise that is actually reach out to one of our sleep. Experts tasked them your question and what they did say. Was that on your off days. You should try to get as much sleep.

Jogger Records Video After Being Stopped by ICE Agents

"City Councilor Michael Flaherty, calling this unlawful, outrageous and inexcusable. He's talking about an incident earlier this week when a black man was stopped by a group of men while he was out jogging in West Roxbury on the V F W Parkway. "For people who aren't familiar with Thomas King's book the inconvenient Indian, how do you describe it? It's a difficult book to describe because Thomas covers so much ground but really it's the history of colonization in North America but told through his lens so he uses humor I. It's funny. He says to me he always disarms people with his humor, and then he pulls out the knife and. I really feel that that expresses the book in the best way because there can be a moment where you're just running along listening to historian. He's a fantastic storyteller, and then you're laughing and next thing you know it's a Gut Punch and I feel that capture the spirit of indigenous people we go through a lot of things and it can be really tough but we always have the ability to laugh at it and we have such a good sense of. Humor despite some of the atrocities we end up living in our lives and I feel like, Thomas Really encapsulates Ivan this book and do you remember when you first picked up the book and read it and you know what impact it had on you I do I read it around the time it first came out and it was not long after that that I ended up going to standing rock to document the occupation against the Dakota access pipeline there and I'd never thought about making the book into a film but when I was in standing rock, I saw a lot of those ideas that are in Thomas's. Enacted on the ground in the front lines and when I came back from standing rock. I guess that was when I really started to think about making it into a film and the book the inconvenient Indian it's pretty genre defying. It's you know unconventional in so many ways it blends history and humor and personal narrative from Thomas Kings perspective. How did you approach adapting all of those things from the book to the Big Screen? Yeah, it was actually very intimidating in the beginning when Jesse, Wendy and Stuart Henderson the producers of the film when they approached me to adopt the book. My initial reaction was I'm not a historian I'm not an academic I can't do this, and then on the publisher sent me an illustrated version of the book and those illustrations spanned everything from Thomas? King's own photographs in his travels to old posters from the original land settlement posters when candidate was trying to entice settlers to come here and occupy lands and I think that got me really thinking about the history that. Media has played in the misrepresentation of Dennis peoples in this country. One of my favorite moments in the film is a hunting scene, and early in the film, You bring in a clip from the nineteen twenty, two movie nuke of the North, and that movie represents the Innuendo as primitive but you show us a contemporary hunting scene So you kind of flip the script and Wayne. Can You? Can you tell us why? Was that important to show contemporary hunting nook of the north is an interesting film because when that was being recorded, it was considered one of the first feature documentaries and and it was recorded from Robert Flaherty who was asking people to hunt with spears, and when at the time they were actually hunting with rifles and so he was actually setting them back in time and this is where I think this. This perpetuates the stereotype that. People are stuck in the past where this nineteenth century representation of a dead Indiana's I use those words meaning the Thomas. King words from his book dead Indian or we're stuck with leathers and feathers, and we're a stereotypical romanticized version of ourselves but we exist in the now and many of our cultural practices and traditions are existing with us right now

"If your insurance cost like an arm called James Carlton State Farm. Yeah that's something that has been since I was in high school. The don't mess with me. Jack Flaherty yes weird. My coach he talks about. He's like you know he said you are always a really athletic and really gifted as a position player but for some reason you just hit a different mode when you'd go on. Start Day and and I've always been that way like there's maybe there's that like there's like a five minute window where I kinda let my guard down of like you can talk to me. And then it's like right before the game or WanNa know it's you know in high school. It was a different routine garage. Then I'd come sit down and right before I went to go play catch. You could talk to me and then the second. I was out of the Dugout to go play catch. It was don't like and then come in the dugout. Like you'd better not be sitting in my seat or do yen even so that. That's something that I again. You know as I went through the minor leagues. It was something I had to read. You know find that again. It kind of goes away. You know you get leagues. You kind of feel Sometimes you kind of feel weird about being yourself and even the big leagues little. You know it's like you gotTa do what works for you but you don't want to step on toes and was able to understand that that guys don't care whatever works for you you gotTa do and so for me. That's that mentality I get into and it's not don't mess with me. It's just that I'm just like and it's it just carries from there like I know these guys got my back. I got back the whole way and I know when I got on that amount. It's like don't mess with me so just carries out the whole thing and I'm not GonNa you know whatever but it just Duchess where I'm at and that's that's state but it's a powerful thing. I don't think everybody does that style. Everybody's different everybody needs differently. Yeah Yeah Yeah that's true that's true so so let me ask you about this. You're so I love this. I mean that it's great that you're so good because the F- your words carry more weight as a guy who's already a star in the game diabetic feeling going to have an incredible career and who knows where that winds up could wind up in upstate. New York and so when I say that your candidate with a few things and certainly with compensation like it's I mean. Listen as a cardinal fan. I'm thrilled that they can afford to have your for a few more years but in principle. It's just totally out of you know it's wrong that you're one of the best pitchers in the game and you guys are in the spot that you're in. So how do you? How do you view the current structure because there is a there is a labor situation lurking in a couple of years? And you don't hesitate to to voice your opinion on social media about this. I just think as a player or in any job or whatever you have you have to understand the way things work and you don't have an understanding what are you doing Are you just going about letting other people make decisions that are GonNa Ultimately Affect Your career? You should have an understanding of what you're doing and what you need to do and what Kinda goes on so for me. It's just about having understanding and look the Labor situation is what it is you know. The control is what it is and there's nothing you can do about it right. Now is a young. How you can do is understand what is going to come in a few years and try to have a an understanding of what it is but also try to understanding of your worth in your value and You know whatever you feel that's at you know don't sell yourself short. Never say so short and anything you do But also understand why you do what you do And I don't play this. I've never played this game for the money or for. What can baseball do for me? I've played this game. 'cause I love it and I'm not getting up at six. Am and offseason. Because unlike common ago I need to go get money. No I'm doing it for these guys and for just my own mental state in for the work ethic that I WANNA put in. I'm not doing you. Don't get up at five. Am like Oh. I can go get your pay. That's not going to get you up in the morning. And you gotta you gotta understand. What's your why. Why do you do what you do? You know in whatever that is whatever that is for you really understand what it is and you know but also remember why you started playing the game while you do love it. Do you really love the game because if you do you're going to get up and do the work if you don't and you're in it for other things you probably take that damn you know. I'm just not I'm not here today. We're GONNA take the day. Yeah and you're going to have a bad day you're gonNA get rocked if the cardinals came knocking on your door. And who knows maybe they already have and said. Hey we see what you got. We got some money. What's walk you in? Would that be something you'd be interested in I mean you know it's never something you're gonna you're gonNA shy away from but I don't. I'm not really focused on right now. You know whatever happens happens. I don't I can't control anything that goes on. All I can do is go and play the game. Yeah And one final line of questioning here. What took place in the off season with the cheating scandals? One of them down the road here fifteen minutes and then one of them across the state and who knows where else talking to some of your teammates or like yeah. I mean the Astros but guys. There's there's some other ones that you haven't heard the names yet Look for your former teammate. He came into the studio. This off season Saint Louis Bs with him and I said what's your reaction. I know you're on the Seventeen Yankees. You're at the cardinals but you know those guys in there and he paused and he goes. It's about time goes because we knew I mean people knew about it. You're a pitcher. Though you know what do you think about that People talk man and yeah you know and and you can you knew when it came out that the nationals were informed going into the series now day New People you guys had you beat the nationals Hewitt or no I mean you look look around Lee Guys. Talk in the you go into a city. You're unfamiliar with you. Might reach out to somebody and say hey. Do we need to be careful And it's one of those things where I've tried to not read all the stuff in the full story in what teams might be involved but whatever it is like the game is the game is the game. I understand trying to gain a competitive advantage but when it gets to that point it turns into something completely different. So that's the hard part to swallow where you know. You WanNa do whatever you can to to gain advantage but at some point you do you do cross the line. I mean I like you specifically like if you won the CY young but in the back of your mind now you wouldn't do it. I just can't ever picture you doing it just because your makeup but if you're like yeah I did this and gave me an advantage and I won the Cy Young. It would each. You wouldn't want it. You wouldn't want it that way. It's not your not your modus operandi. That's game yeah I mean it it just as the whole thing. If you're in whatever you do you never wanNA cheat yourself. You don't WANNA CHEAT THE GAME. You know you WanNa you just. WanNa play the game the right way and especially for those are those around you and your family and whoever's close in in your corner like you know you always want them to trust you I it's just one of those things. It's it's unfortunate. It sucks to hear. Come out. We still don't even know what's true. I don't know how we don't know what's all true like or how it's coming out three years later. Right Right What has MLB known? I don't know I I try to stay out of it. I don't like to read stuff. I kind of do you intentionally. Do you avoid crap in general or specifically on this stuff and I try to avoid stuff in general. It's just like there's noise is noise this other stuff. All you can do is worry about your business now again stuff like that when it affects people's careers and whatnot. That sucks. You hate to hear that you hate to like the guy who got rock and then he never pitches now and you hear guy like Freddy Freeman. Tell the story about Kris medlen and that kind of breaks your heart because Freddy got emotional. You know just from what I've heard from Max. He's my boy. He's like Freddie. Great Guy to hear that kind of thing about he's talked about Medlin and you know he works so hard to get back then. He goes in there and he gets rocked. And that was that was. It was a and you can see how it affects. Certain guys careers and It sucks but again. We don't know what was going on. I really don't know I don't know how much we don't know how much I'm GonNa be knows. We just can take what they give us and continue to be cautious when you go certain place and you guys counter it with the cards. That's the best way to try to counter switch it up neutrality. Went without signs and Pittsburgh before you do what you do. Whatever you can to try to counter it you know. And and Could you hit in the majors? If you were. If you knew what was coming it would make it easier. I genuinely have this discussion with a another family friend. Should have been in the hall of fame about and and he hit two nine in his career and he all he was like he was he was saying he was like. It doesn't help that much said. Do you think you would have hit three hunt? Do you would've got that extra at least three zero five three ten if you knew what was coming. Let's say let's just say was seventy percent in time same sometime. You knew what was coming. You Gotten Twenty five thirty more hits and would hit a three hundred on your Probably that's argument. Yeah that's all that's all it is and then he finally kind of came round understood he still says you still got a hidden. I understand you still gotta hit the ball. What gives you a better chance if you know. It's coming so we went back and forth for tricking. And that's why this one. I'm surprised I mean like I mean I'm not looking at you still have to hit the ball. I get it. Yeah but you know it's like you're getting paid if you know it's coming you know in. I realize I'm naming names your nap but like for all too vague to pull a chapman slider. That's outside you're kind of going. That's that's surprising surprising in the moment. Now that you know what you know man. What in the world. It's just something that point you're playing you're playing you're playing. It'll be the show where you know what I guess pitch. I know it's GonNa go this way. And what like if I knew what you were guessing? Throw the other game. I can't get into your head but you know you know what I'm saying like if I if I get it with runner on second if they get it that's a whole different ball game you gain the advantage. You get a gone second. We have to work really hard with the catcher to combat that but with nobody on. I'm I have the advantage. You'd better run on I. I still should not on second base. So that's my I got nobody on base. This is like I get the advantage. You know the cameras are in different world in all right quick hitters. Get you out of here on this favorite restaurant in Saint Louis Patties. Oh isn't it. So what do you get there? What's going on when you go there?.

"DOT COM. Nothing typifies Jack Clarity. More than just kind of a little little daig on twitter right after some breaking news and baseball. That's just kind of the way he operates and on Saturday afternoon. Carlos Correa did an interview with Ken. Rosenthal the MLB network on the Astro Scandal and Korea was critical of cody. Bellinger for saying that Jose altuve stole the MVP 2017 from Aaron Judge and that the Astros stole the world series from the dodgers and Korea attempting to defend his teammate. Altuve Eh and his teammates with An interview with Rosenthal said I have no problem with people giving us trouble about what happened. Two thousand seventeen were wrong. But cody bellinger's responsibility is to get the facts. And he is saying some things that are factually inaccurate and Jack Flaherty Without directing it just tweets out right. Is that interview comes out. Give us the facts. Then that's his style we talk about the Astros and the cheating scandal in this interview but we start things off with something in. Saint Louis was certainly huge deal. But we're Jack Flaherty was born and raised. Was the biggest deal in. That is the passing of Kobe Bryant. Last month Jack. Flaherty took a lot of the intensity in the way he practices and plays the game growing up in Los Angeles from watching Kobe Bryant. And that's where we start our conversation this week from the home loan expert Dot Com studios with Cardinal Starter. Jack Flaherty Jack. What's up man? I'm doing pretty good. Yeah thank you so much for sitting down with me here. I know you're big. La Guy. And I want to start with this. What happened a few weeks ago with Kobe? Bryant and how that hits YOU BECAUSE PEOPLE SAINT LOUIS NO NBA team. Kind of rock them. But for somebody like you as a fan what that what that meant because I saw a lot of your social media and talking about it. So what does that mean to you? What do you mean when you you know coming up Kobe was a guy for me. Those really easy to to gravitate to in To really look up to as a as a player Especially growing up in La and those kind of right as I was growing up and was going through middle school and an elementary school in high school. And now Dow's that was the guy you know. I played ball growing up One of my best friends on the team who you know we kind of pushed each other and we talked about it once had happened. I we we talked to him because I knew that his guy he slept under seven pictures of Kobe right above his bed and we talked about just the way I thanked him for for pushing me in that aspect on the court just mentally. It helped me more than anything But again that goes back to Cobra's his guy covers Mike Golic. That's just who we we looked up to and that's the guy that we not even for me not from Basle standpoint but just from a mental standpoint and a work ethic standpoint with somebody I could look at and try to emulate and you know hearing. That news was just just hitch a hard and it was really numbing. It was it was just one of those deals where you remember where you were realised weeks ago now but as you probably will always all remember all remember that day and just the feelings and I had a couple of people that knew that had personal relationship with him so I went over there check on them and just kind of hung out with them today. Dang flows with one of my one of my best friends who is a huge colby. Guys together Yeah air is just one of those things that you feel it all. La You could feel that interest was there was a hole in in Los Angeles. Yeah that's what I was. That's what I was wondering about. I mean you know I'm I'm forty three and I guess the parallel would be if something happened to Jordan like a handful years after his career and he started to be able to enjoy his kids and it would have dislike wrecked me and you especially going up there and then also I do feel like there. Is the famous Mama mentality that you do personify that from a baseball standpoint. That's the thing that kind of stood out to me when I saw you post on white man you know. I don't know Jack. Well he's been on the show but it's like this dudes intense competitor. I wonder how much of what you saw from him. When you were going up a Laker fan has translated what you're doing now when you're out on the mound so much. I like two years ago all spring training and doing it again like I started watching all these interviews on how he talked and how he talked about his work ethic and watching his muse documentary and just listening to the way that he talked about certain things how we talk about work ethic. I talk about preparation. How he talked about you know working hard. Let your hard work. Never sought US hard work Because he loved it yeah because he loves it and you know he just knew like she would do whatever he had to do in order to go out and and be better next year and Never forgetting the basics as well. He always went back to the basics. And that's something that I've been told was remember the basics and go back to the basics when things start going wrong but never never lose that so his whole Mama mentality his work ethic the he was on the core and his intensity and his focus and his concentration level was always at the top. Now he'd never stray away from that he was always there. You know maybe at the very end of his career you could see it a little bit. In his last year with his last go around he started to smile a little bit more and take it all in but when he is in the middle of his career kill. Kill Kill and for me. That's kind of been trying to find that zone and not feeling of where it just kind of all it is is your instincts and your only instinct does go out attack in you know kill. Yeah so just taking that from him and continuing to try to find that zone in that mental head. Space of being locked in where? There's kind of that my mom talks about. She's like you can just see the look on your face. I know is going to be a good. Darren how it's going to be really really and you know. Sometimes you have that. Look she's like you have that look and sometimes you know you're not always going to execute not going to be a great day but I know from get go that you're there mentally and you're able to walk away from the day no matter what and you're going to feel good about trying to find that head space in that that zone that he seemed always get into the thing that I thought was interesting. I was talking to your teammates and I said you know I mean I figure in the locker room. What do we know but the leaders are going to be mylene. Wainwright seems obvious. But everybody named you as well and and I the only reason I go. I'm surprised by that is usually somebody who's been in the game for ten years twelve years but here you are young guy certainly incredibly accomplished already but people already are looking to you. Not just because I think that numbers you're putting up but because of the way you carry yourself it commands respect from teams guys who are obviously plenty of Monroe older than you I for me. I just take from from guys that you watch that I've been able to watch in Yada and Ueno and talking there when big Chris Carpenter was there and just being able to watch how they work. And how they went about their business and their focus in their level of of preparation they would do and try to emulate that you see on every day and how much work he puts in just to be ready for that fifth day. And how much work he puts in on that fifth day to prepare and no things in just trying to pick their brain and seeing how Yati goes about his stuff you see how much work he puts in nausea when he comes in and he's you know he's the most in shape guy here is thirty six thirty seven is your destiny man. Yeah just WANNA beat. You're just like I'm going to be better than him only spring and I'm going to work harder than he did and then in season like I'm GonNa put in the work and do whatever I have to do to get ready for that fifth day and make sure that it carries out the whole season. Do you love the work like like literally like love the work? I can't wait to get in a session. I can't wait deliver. Can't to run or whatever it is that you're doing it's one of those things that it's it's grown on me more and more than more than I'm just Kinda gone up earlier and earlier in spring training and even in the off season The work that I put in when I'm getting up and you know the long days and going about it getting home late and but mentally staying in it the next day and You know some days you get home. You're exhausted you're like man. I'm tired and you realize I gotta go do it again the next day and that's more the offseason grind in season is just the day-to-day but it. It's IT'S YOURS. GotTa find a way to compete against yourself. You know you compete against the guy next you to compete against yourself and you know. There's there's a I don't remember the quote exactly but I'm always watching different videos online and In key Johnson he talks about he talks about going out and you know when he was young he would be he would he would go run in the streets or whatever in like five. Am and I think it was his dad. Uncle he talks about you know I. It's something like I need you to compete better than yourself or be better than yourself. And he didn't understand and what what he was saying. There's always somebody inside of you. That's competing harder But you need to compete harder than the other person's side you see college compete against but there's always a different level you can tap into. Yeah so when you're like like people talk about like what Tiger or Jordan or Kobe. Take your pick. Whoever we're GONNA talk about like there's never satisfied. You know always okay. I can win more. I gotTa win more. It's like an addiction. Do you think you have that kind of thing going on like you. Just on a quest. You know there's gotTa be you know championship Cy Youngs. Whatever I don't care I gotta be the best I just want to win the day. You know. The individual Steph will take care of itself but winning and winning with this group and with these guys and Duchess seems like the most fun..

"And despite the fact that it seems there is in some cases a assumption that Mookie Betts was going to leave the red Sox that he was not going to re sign with the red Sox that maybe even if he did entertain an extension of the red Sox it wouldn't come until after this year when he was in free agency in hearing from multiple teams I still cannot wrap my head around the Boston Red Sox trading him for what they traded him like I get it you've got some prospects you get ready David prices money get Alex Verdugo you got two more prospects Jeter downs a short stop and Connor won a catcher from LA because of Bruce star Greta Rawls medicals Boston wanted out of that so can smite it goes to the twins and greater all and another prospect go to Los Angeles the red Sox then pick up eight shortstop Jeter downs that was drafted thirty second by the Reds in twenty seventeen and then shipped to LA in the week deal and also Conor want a third round pick in twenty seventeen out of university of Houston like even if those guys end up being every day big leaguers which still you know not a given just because of the nature of Major League Baseball how hard it is for guys to not just get to the big leagues but then become every day guys and much less all star caliber guys even if that happens you're still trading M. V. P. you still trade in MVP this might actually be a bit of a better deal because of the fact the greater all is said Tommy John surgery but you know it was just the red Sox wanting to get under the luxury tax and move an asset that just about everyone it seems new was going to be moved and I just can't buy into them having no choice can't I can not buy into their hands being tied and having to make this deal so you know the cardinals will have some interesting now I guess guys in that vein moving forward the most notably potentially Jack Flaherty Ben Fredrickson regret piece in the post dispatch it was yesterday my days are all messed up and everything was yesterday Sunday on you know if now would be the time to try and get the spring extension done with flirty I don't know Flaherty would listen right now but if they could try to lock him up in la command if your picture maybe the security is a lot more appealing than if your position player because of the risk of injury but maybe Jack Flaherty won't entertain that we've seen you know the extensions of the last few years we've seen the pre are extensions with Matt carpenter back in twenty years at fourteen fifteen with Paul the young with cold warm we then saw Mao's Michaelis get his extension from the cardinals last spring that we saw the carpenter extension at start of the season last year although that's apples and oranges because again that wasn't a pre RBL he already got that but I just don't know if you will see guys continued to be eager to take those deals are feel see guys move towards free agency but either way I still think it's bad for the game bad for the sport bad for fans but the red Sox just kind of gave up I'm trying to figure out making it work with Mookie Betts instead cash in their chips to get under the luxury tax and you know get some prospects back prospector that you know I I totally understand not one to give guys away but you know it's almost the flip side this time almost like they're valuing that controlling get under the tax more than they value and I don't know I for one just as a fan as a baseball fan you know it's not great great for the Dodgers great for the Dodgers and they've got a heck of a line up

"While you're there doing courage you to check out the link to my other. PODCAST is called the quickstart film review. podcast where look at new movies. That are out in theaters. Check that out at my website. quitter DOT net today. I'M GONNA we'll be looking at the third and final of the films in which there is a protagonist who is a master of disguise in comedy. I just looked at the two fletch. Let's films for my previous episodes. This one going off of a movie that kind of copies somewhat. The fletch formula in a certain respect came out the same year as has. fletch lives the second fletch film. And thus far the last one to been released. Who's Harry crime is the name of the movie I'm talking about? It is a film that came out in February of nineteen eighty nine it is a pg thirteen rated film does have crude humor sexual content and brief language. The run time is an hour thirty four minutes the main star of WHO's Harry Crumb. Is John Candy any pots. Jeffrey Jones Shawnee Smith. Tim Thomson Barry Corbin Valerie. Bromfield are also in the film. The director is Paul flaherty Freddie and the screenplay credited to Robert Conte and Peter Werthmann now. Who's Harry Crumb Before I get into the review I just WanNa say it is a movie I did see in the theater back in nineteen eighty nine being a fan of comedy and John Candy but unfortunately it is one of two movies in my entire life and and I've seen thousands and thousands of films in the theater only one of two in my life that I fell asleep watching. I think it was about a half power in. I slept through the entire rest of the film. I was his either something going on with me or there was just something going home with this movie that just loudly into sleep however I did obviously just watch it for the course of this review had no problem staying awake so it probably was just to be the film by the way is the royal tenenbaums so I can't say that the quality of a movie has an effect. WHO's Harry CRUMB? It's a very silly slapstick. Comedy in the vein of the I think more of the later half the pink panther films the ones with Peter Sellers essentially just straight up comedy where the most laughs come from how inane the filmmakers are willing to go to embarrass the Protagonist Protagonist John Candy here. He's had a career up to that point Wesley playing comic relief side characters or he ended up sharing the bill with other performers. But here he's getting into show but he can do in a movie that actually allows him to cut loose with his many comedic talents. His first headliner. I think in films you go back to. His early career going going Berserk but he made that movie while he was a nobody. Outside of Canada. Candy is likeable and talented. But it's just not enough to make this film worthwhile for anybody who's is not a die hard. John Candy Fan Uncle Buck released the same year later on. That would be the one that would break him through to the mainstream John Candy here playing Harry crump. He's the bumbling son who never quite lived up to the reputation of his sleuthing father and grandfather crumbs in the Chroma. CHROMA company his family's longstanding longstanding detective agency. Instead of running the company. Harry Chrome has been relegated to being a lowly trainee in Tulsa Office of Chrome in Crumb. Ineptitude is just what the EO the president of the company Elliott. Jason Play by Jeffrey Jones. He's in Los Angeles and he wants to hire an investigator within the the company for reasons of his own driesen flies out crump to Los Angeles knowing that he is completely inept in order to crack the case or not crack the case involving the kidnapping and ransom of Jennifer Downing who happens to be beautiful heiress daughter of PD downing play by Barry Corbin and his new OOF philandering wife. Helen played by Annie. Potts crump begins to use his penchant for disguises to get to the bottom of things but the more he digs the more in jeopardy he he becomes now as I mentioned this is directed by Paul Flaherty flaherty worked on. SETV with John Candy. For many years he was a writer for that skit comedy. Show along along with his brother. Joe Who is one of the players in front of the camera Joe Flaherty of course who happens to make a small appearance in. Who's Harry Crumb the direction in this film? I think in general enroll from flaherty is about as clumsy and awkward as its main character. You have set pieces edited in such a way that it's really hard to tell. Just what's going on from moment to moment so it's kind of a sloppy the film in that fashion and that doesn't hold together very very well the biggest draw of course to WHO's Harry Crumb is John Candy Himself Candy. Felt that this movie would be the a turning point in his movie career because until then he had very little creative input on the films that he made or the parts that he would play within them so not only would candy. Sandy here serve as executive producer. He was working for his own. Production Company called Frost Back Productions Frost back being of course the playful derogatory term for Canadians who emigrate to the United States. But this film would also be produced by. Candy's friend aren't in Milton. WHO had made a number of very fine films? Up to that point point he produced the king of comedy. Once upon a time in America in Brazil very high quality films Milton had worked with candy to ensure that the entire film would be remoulded specifically to his talents and that included putting in a lot of physical humor off the wall characters from to play and in addition candy would feel comfortable by working with other talents that he knew and trusted from his. SETV days candy here gets to utilize many of his comedic skills to try to bring out the comedy. Here bring it up to life. Plenty of physical comedies on display throughout some of it's quite funny such as when the klutzy crumbs gets his tie cod into this industrial shredder. shredder that he tries desperately to get out before anybody sees him. Can you get the Don a variety of disguises and put on some very interesting accidents. Although like many comedies of the one thousand nine hundred eighty s some viewers might actually see these examples of cultural and ethnic insensitivity of Hollywood in the era. I mean it's not a movie that probably probably would get away with some of the stuff today for sure now while candies sweet natured. Humanity does come out underneath all of those characterizations I think his main character is written anez decidedly one dimensional in that forces the big guy to Mug desperately for each forced laugh some jokes and the plot points they make very little sense here ear for instance we only learn early on. That is the one responsible for the ransom request. And he's hoping to use the collected money to lure the gold digging Helen who who is an amorous schemes but he is also shown to have this priceless ninety million year old pterodactyl egg in his possession that keeps on his desk in such a way that chrome nearly nearly breaks it several times before. Obviously he actually does now if he sold that egg. That was sure to break at some point. Any point all of this probably could have been avoided because he would've had the money right there. There's another sequence involving this air duct. The happens to be big enough for someone. The size of John Candy to crawl around comfortably in but air conditioning is also so powerful enough to shoot someone. The size of John Candy through and out of the building seems hard to believe here. But you kind of go with the flow for the sake of the comedy. The candy here surrounded ended by a very fine supporting cast. I would say all very appealing in their respective roles. I think the problem comes from the script itself from Robert Conte and Peter Martin Workman any pots does manage to give the best performance outside of Candy. She's playing the part of the scheming gold digger wife and giving her sex pot all. She's very appealing in this role. Another actress in this film. No more today for her recurring role in the future saw franchise Shawnee Smith. She doesn't get to do as much comedic Lee as Jennifer Downing Sister Nikki Gi but she does make for a very fun and appealing sidekick for olive candies shenanigans. Laugh out loud moments can be had in. WHO's Harry crumb but they do require sitting getting through quite a bit of mediocrity before you actually get to those things? The score here is a little bit dated a little bit cheesy. A lot of smooth jazz hounds on the funkier side by French composer impose your Michelle Columbia crumb does make better use of its soundtrack already established hits. You Have James. Brown's I got you that establishes the Funky good time. I'm that is sure to come. The fast paced holding out for a hero does punctuate one particular sequence. Bonnie Tyler of course provides that there's one original song by the temptations that ends the film in the end credits called Big Fun Harry Crumb. It's not half bad song. So long as you're not expecting peak motown at this point for this film and by the end of the film you you sense that the people who made this film thought that this actually could be quite a franchise but the movie was not much of a hit. Unfortunately in nineteen thousand nine debuted at number five in the struggle to find oxygen. There were other comedies. That were out at the time. Three fugitives in her alibi were fairly new to the theaters. And there were the continued long-term runs of twins and the naked gun that we're still in the top ten in theaters at that time. So all in all in its entire run. It only raked in about a little bit less than eleven million dollars. Candy himself was frustrated by Tristar. Pictures Marketing Push for the film primarily because he was very involved he had given him his own marketing ideas that included a variety of large billboard. Advertisements they were rejected by Tristar. They didn't want to put that much money into it and seeing how poorly their marketing only rub salt in the wound for candy. Who saw the film fail and he felt partially it was because it was poorly marketed by the studio? The obviously did not have enough faith in the the picture to promote it any more than they had to. Now I'm uncertain of what the actual budget a four who's Harry crumb ends up being. It was shot in Vancouver which was saving the film some money in taxes. So maybe it didn't take a big bath. Although they ended up having to do such things as pay for palm trees to be imported to give Vancouver at least a semblance of a southern California vibe reportedly there were some problems there with weather. It was one of the rainiest periods in Vancouver. In many many many years attempting to emulate the Sunny California California weather was even more trying because they had to wait for a lot of that bad weather to pass and that caused a lot of delays in the production now the appeal of. WHO's Harry Crumb as a film? Tom will largely be limited to just die hard fans of John Candy. So if you are that you probably have seen this may be seen it multiple times and you probably find minded very appealing because candy gets destroyed his stuff throughout maybe Scott. Some smaller appeal. For those who just snicker at really dumb slapstick. I know that when I was growing up my mother would probably have loved this movie but otherwise it feels a little bit too familiar after several. Better films starring. The likes of Peter Sellers as inspector clue. So that's iconic there the funnier interpretation of this formula that I just talked about in the previous episode. Chevy Chase's Fletch of one thousand. Nine hundred five I think was very much a good representation of how to do this film right. Candy is much better. Comedian and actor than this film was suggest and it does continue to showcase at. He's good playing fairly zany characters as he would so often do you wanna see TV. Nevertheless naked gun was as I mentioned still out in theaters at the time. And it did most of this in terms of the inept detective much better and in a funnier fashion and it was still out in theaters. I think watching that for a second or third or fourth time still yielded more laughs than watching who's Harry crumb trump for the first time so for all of that much..

"Hopefully another eight forty star when a four hour and two minute game is not in our future but it very well could be so it started Severino last he wasn't perfect obviously the big jams in the second and the third and his fastball command was something he really couldn't get under control early on in the game just give us your overall kind of how Luis Severino looked in the start last night yeah I think you're right on kind of all over the place fastball command the stuff looks pretty good you know maybe velocity wasn't great right from the beginning of the game but you know what I take away from his start last night was a little bit of maturity and by that I mean the ability to kind of walk off the mountains of spots I was worried about him being so amped up and he would just be out there checking it as hard as he could he actually it took a couple of steps back and slow the game down a little bit and you referenced that second inning was the biggest thing as a game bases-loaded nobody out after the Yankees had taken it early lead in the ability to navigate through that and get out of it without any damage I thought was brilliant but the way he's walked off the mound composed themselves you know buckled down on every pitch was a huge huge four innings for him you know it's kind of interesting watching Aaron Boone stand there in the dugout with Larry Rothschild right to his left and I'm thinking are they just talking through every inning now as we move forward here in the playoffs and were you surprised that they left Severino in no no I wasn't surprised I kinda you know we're talking about it after the fourth inning and the way the lineup was going to turn over for third time you know that that probably had to be hit I mean and if you could have gone four shutout although they were stressful innings so at the end of the day four shutout innings after him only coming back act three major league starts I think is is everything that Larry and Aaron Boone would've looked for so you know obviously we talked before the series how big the China's going to be four innings from Severino shut up an exotic that every time man when I look at this Yankee in this series they did everything well whether it was awesome ends defense pitching starting pitching bullpen you know but you WANNA come out of it saying this is a championship team and they have been all year there's a couple of things though you have to put in the conversation one is that the twins were completely over matched and I don't want to over value what the Yankees did because of the opponent and the other thing is potentially and we should see the May probably have win by Berliner later on tonight but you've got another team that's just as good they did this series for you elevate your expectations of the Yankees at all with how well they played across the Board Wow I thought it would be a closer he's more competitive but banned jail I gotTa tell you I I was really impressed with the Yankees and you mentioned it all facets we've already talked about the quality bats and kind of taking pitches and walking and making pitchers work you know the way the defense showed up last night you know whereas was unbelievable the you first Aaron judge doesn't get a hit last night but he's a big factor in the game the way played right Field Didi Gregorius went from a lazy finished Jesus all the sudden he's at playoff big time player that we've seen in the past so I think the Yankees in the series impressed mate in every facet I think there's going to be some issues moving forward with some of the relievers they're going to have to have to get more out so you know obviously starters we're going to be a premium trying to go deeper into the game but you're not going to be able to go through nails CSM the best of seven and and have relievers used your big time relievers in one meaning in the fifth inning is what happened last night so that's GonNa come back and get you but all around starting pitching was good bullpen was better defense was amazing especially in last night's game and the way that lineup just keeps coming at you and one for nine Yankees played great series this is interesting the Yankees took care of business they swept they're going to be rested Houston's gotTa go another game here on short rest and everything else I don't know how that will impact his availability for the he's at the beginning of their next as assuming that they do win? Here's a question that halfway John you're over there yes you're hanging around with all the guys you know from you know Jack Curry to David cone and everybody else in between Paul Neil Michael is the prevailing thought that de Gregorio is going to be a part of the Yankees long term future well it has been forever until maybe the last month you start talking about it and the way he was Kinda limping to the finish line and you say what what is going to happen here I mean you know the law firm qualifying offer I'd see if he's going to take it DD Just Kinda reminds us now in the series that hey this is act on past during the biggest game of the year and obviously you guys know this you know Yankee fans they're all about October and what you do during the biggest months of the year DD done it as a Yankee he's been he's been pledged huge performer during the postseason I expect him to be back you know he's kind of reminding US the series and then moving forward I think there are some guys who can handle the stage and raise their game and coming off a major injury it was an up and down here eighty but at the biggest moments here he's stepping up to the plate like he always has so I expect him to be back would you change or expect a change to this lineup in the AL based on matchups or is this just the lineup did you expect the Yankees to ride with until they see other results yeah. I guess it's strange to say that I would expect the same lineup because we've never seen the same lineup during the year and obviously injuries weren't big reason why but Oh I think Ari Boone sounds something here I think he found the lineup that works You know as an ex catcher I would know how to navigate this lineup because the first three guys make you work so hard in lemay judging Gardner and they just never given and they felt it just mentally they wear down a pitcher and a cat serve you know trying to get through those guys so I I would keep it the same as long as everybody's healthy obviously I think they found something that's working They Oh positions where you have the power in the middle you know now all of a sudden you get Sanchez about a whole lot better last night this is the lineup I'd roll out there and I take my chances what did you think of Stanton's first at bat last night I am so long ago but over he struck out remember he had that feeble swing on the third strike yeah he's he's the guy that everybody you know for some reason the Yankee Pants and I understand it you know but I think I talked about the quality AH AH bats I still feel good about it it's like anything that he does everybody's GonNa look point to and I get it but I thought he was a contributor in the fact that he was kind of you know grinding out at bats like everybody else he didn't have a big moment you know contributed a little bit but I I'm not GonNa kill this guy you know I'm GonNa wait for me any worse for him although I agree with you I think he's he's he's participated in this series I don't think he's been a disaster and the fact that he did take walks and didn't swing eh pitches and all that all that other stuff was a good sign and you know why would you wanna mess with anything right now I mean they they just basically tore apart the twins now they sit back they get to come home they get to enjoy what did this series and they get to watch a game today to see whether or not it's going to be the astros this weekend or whether or not they got to go to a game five with the race so I mean I I hate nit picking stuff like this though John I would imagine the roster's going to remain the same you don't see you don't see that overall changing well we talk a little appoint during a game where he might pinch hit for anybody in that lineup I don't think so so would you value an extra arm in the bullpen Awesome Matt is GonNa Throw aside session on Wednesday he he was saying last night after the game that if that goes well he might be a possibility so that would be the only the change if any I think that they would make but you know obviously they're happy with the way when they can get healthy accurate and sounds like he's GonNa be fine the ankle much of an issue after the game so I would expect maybe the only conversation adding another pitcher one of the questions that's always asked this time of year when a team wraps up a series uh-huh quickly and another one asked to play another game is the lay offs stuff I think it affects there's not one answer for every team I think it affects every team differently but you know the Yankees will not play a game you know Monday obviously Monday night they'll not play another game until Saturday do you believe that it has any effect positive or negative on them at all I don't jail I mean I could have said the same thing you know about this division series they had a little time off before that they had things wrapped up you know they just this I don't know something about this team there's a focus there there's a there's a hunger there you know they describe it out and they kind of have an edge about them that I I don't expect it to be an issue I expect them to take a couple of days off enjoy themselves a little bit figured out who they were own it is and then you know kind of go through the whole process again I think the one thing from an organizational standpoint that really stood out to me is they very very prepared against the Minnesota twins to break down that lineup they they had all the information they had the game plan that they wanted they see community so now they sit back on organization wait to see if it's going to be Tampa or Houston once they do that they're going to dive in head first and I think the pitching staff especially will be very prepared with a game plan on how to navigate the lineup last thing for me John One thing I see out of this team is a team there where nobody he wants to let their teammates down it's the chemistry equation here and it's like okay judge strikes out he gets up gets a hit or gardner gets a hit or whatever are and how happy judge is for his seem eight while he's disappointed in himself so I kind of see the whole chemistry thing coming together I just it's their year it looks like it's their year Joe's been saying it now for about the last three months and I have to agree with him I don't know if you would have the same assessment that I do I do and you know it's funny the analytics department and all of these front office as they zero value on chemistry clubhouse and all of that stuff but when you right behind me a Lotta Times here hitters say that and you know you don't really believe it but when I watch these guys on how patient they are and they're just kind of handing it to the next guy you start believing that something is a little bit different here with this team they all get along they've all been through so many ups and turned out to be you started this interview talking about the maturity of Severino last night how would the maturity of Aaron Boone as manager of this team so far and I don't wanna t winds manager looks great when they lose doesn't look great and sometimes not all about him but for me he seems like he's more in-command and more confident in the dugout with the decisions that he's making and he pushed all the right buttons in this particular series is that is that fair to say just easy to.

"Live from the Investors Bank studio over sized Greg Giovanni boomer and Geo the fan simulcasts across the country on CBS sports network learning report with John Somebody's getting as getting Zayd John Flaherty report is brought to you by Stoli vodka the official vodka of the Yankees Radio Network John Good morning how are you doing great. How's it going guys doing race it's always great to talk to you especially after a couple Yankee wins it'd be your initial impressions and I and I'm reading this morning that they're going to go with the same lineup of what Aaron Boone trotted out there as a lineup especially with with Gartner to three hole yeah you know what boomer I've been really impressed on how tight the bats are I mean eight walks in each game is pretty incredible and just the very disciplined line right now it's they're not swinging at anything out of the strike zone and as Aaron Boone talks about they're getting a lot of traffic a lot of opportunities Didi has the big swing Grand Slam but for me it's the at bats where they're hitting the ball the other way they're taking their walks and they're just setting themselves up for some big inning so I think that's been the different so far in two games I have to say the Minnesota twins I have really expanded out of the strike zone and the Yankees have taken advantage of that and and the Yankee lineup it's been very disciplined Gimme a reason to believe that things are going to be different Minnesota because I don't believe that they will I think that as I told John Friday that the twins are an inferior team they showed up and look like hidden games one and two is there a legitimate reason and from what you've seen from the Yankees and twins year that makes you believe that when they go to Minnesota that day twins are all of a sudden you're gonNA wake up and make this thing series I don't a happening you know for me their lineup of so one dimensional and and we talked about it on Friday that you know the breaking ball was going to be a big part of this series and we saw that in game one attacks with his curve ball the twins you know where we're very aggressive out of the strike zone and Paxton took advantage of that and Tanaka just kind of pitch backwards in game two and They didn't make any adjustments offensively so this lineup that three hundred seven home runs is is relatively easy to pitch to from a game plan standpoint you have to execute it and I thought Tanaka did that beautifully so I guess to answer your question you know the only way that voters is he goes out there and throw six or seven innings tonight you know and the Twins Day away from some of their middle relievers but like I was just explaining what this Yankee lineup that's not it can happen they wear you down pitches they take their walk to get into the bullpen and that's where they do their damn I always ask you this John as we talked to the Great John Florida catching a pitcher in a playoff game in Severino as share a little bit at the end of the season but you know this is a big game it's a big game for him how do you calm him down starting this game off tonight and what do you expect to see from him yeah boomer it's GonNa be really hard he's GonNa be be jacked up he's going to be ready to go and you know when when you watch Tanaka dissect the lineup you just surgeon right but you know Severino different he's GonNa attack he's gotTa throw slider and fastball counts for strikes and that's not necessarily one of his strengths you know he likes overpower you with the fastball he likes to throw slider it's off the plate he'll throw some change for strikes but not so much with a slider so to your question I think you gotTa let him go pitches game tonight Chris stuff is dominating enough but if he can stay away trump's fastballs fastball counts he'll he'll have a better chance what was your take on how Aaron Boone had employed the bullpen in games one and two especially game one yeah surprised that he went to the bolt ten so early you know I it's all about matchup so some of the guys that we're gonNA see come out of the bullpen earlier in games might be a little different than what we saw during the regular season green out of Vino it's all about matchups in that fourth fifth sixth inning that that Aaron likes with those guys so I this is GonNa be a bullpen series has been already The Yankee Bullpen is is obviously you know so much better than the twin bullpen but it's it's not gonNA look like it hasn't looked into John smoltz talk about Edwin encarnacion roll right out of bed and start hitting no matter whether it's a broken wrist or an oblique injury he just seems as a professional hitter and what an addition he has turned out to be for the Yankees and what a move that Brian Cashman made in the middle of the season give me your sense of his at bats and also John Carlos Stanton's at bats yeah boomer I go back to a series I worked in Detroit where encarnacion went down to the minor leagues and had eight bats and came back and I'm getting you know is that enough can you do this and he hits a home run the first game so obviously you can and then you're whereas on what they already have but it just seems perfectly right in the middle of that lineup talking to John Flaherty on the fan and CBS Sports Network Giancarlo Stanton didn't really have the ball that much had the sacked fly in game two but he was laying off some of those breaking balls on the outer half with two strikes that we have seen him as many many times are you sensing that Giancarlo Stanton is in a good place right now at the plate a great place and we talked about it on Friday games in the series so as long as he keeps his patients Kinda hangs hangs out waits a little bit eventually the twins are going to have to come to him and I feel the same way about Aaron judge taking walks he's taking his face hits the other way I eventually these guys are going to get into some really good hitting counts and the twins they mentally grind you down they they they really do because you're you're sitting there like I don't want to throw the ball over the place they're not swinging anything off of the plate and do it so it's it's relentless right now from keeps going I know that you don't want to think ahead too much if you're the Yankees obviously but I mean we are on this religion course with the Yankees and Astros in the AL CS and we're already getting colds about it and it's GonNa be different when you face the astros pitching it's not going to be the same the astros have an uber driver they're gonNA throw in a playoff game and I understand all that but but I still have faith in that Yankee lineup that they're just not gonNA get shut down by those guys.

Cardinals trade QB Josh Rosen to Dolphins for picks

"I wanna get back to the Josh Rosen thing for a second from the Miami perspective. So Miami sitting there Chris grayer, the general manager says all right? I'm going to trade out of the forty eighth pick. And then the sixty second pick and fifth round pick. That's gonna get Josh Rosa. Okay. That's what I'm giving up for Josh Rosen about it. From Miami's perspective. They're like all we have to give up for a guy that could be the future of our organization could be our franchise quarterback for the next ten to fifteen years. All we have to give up. You're telling me is the sixty second pick. And a fifth round pick next year. Oh, yeah. I'll do that. And then the other elements this for Miami's perspective, you realize that basically has paid Josh Rosen toll contract almost right? So Miami's on the hook for six million dollars Arizona's paid ten million. So they're barely paying Josh Rosen any money. So this is like the best of both worlds for Miami. Miami's like okay, we didn't have to give up much to get him. And he was a guy that went tenth in the draft a season ago. A lot of people had him ranked higher than any of the quarterbacks in this draft. And by the way, we had to give up nothing to get the guy. We gave up the sixty second pick end to the second round pick and a fifth rounder next year. That's all it costs us to possibly find the future of our organization, and even if okay, even if he doesn't work out who cares. We lost a second round pick at the end of the second round really third round pick. If you look at the end of the second and fifth round pick, and he's only costing a six million dollars. That's all it costs us so Miami. It was almost like. Wait, really, this is this is all you want. Yeah. We'll do it. We'll take the chance on Rosen. We like the player, we'll take the chance on them. Now. The one thing that does give me caution with Miami is Josh Rosen set up to succeed there because you look at it. And we mentioned some of it earlier, but pro football focus ranks offense of lines and the NFL and last year the last ranked line was the cardinals. They were thirty seconds. Okay. And Josh Rosen was playing for the autocar does. He had no protection. He also did not have many people to throw the ball to not named Larry FitzGerald. The offense could never really figure out how to work under Mike McCoy, and then Byron left which now the thing that he benefits from in Miami is he's got a better coaching staff. There. Chatto shea who comes over from the patriots was the receivers coach there. He takes over as the offensive coordinator, and Jim Caldwell who's been in the league forever. He takes over as the quarterbacks coach. So Josh Rosen will be better coached in Miami than he wasn't Ariana. But some of the problems that he had an zone. Are going to repeat themselves when you're looking at it seem like the Miami Dolphins. So I wonder from a personnel standpoints the coaching will be better. But from a personnel standpoint if Josh Rosen isn't putting a position where he's going to have the same type of issues heated last year because if you look at pro football, focus, how they rank Miami's line they ranked Miami's line thirty first in the NFL last year. So the only team to Miami was Arizona. So Josh Rosen goes from the worst line in the NFL. According to pro football, focus to the second worse line in the NFL. And if you look at it they did draft ticket in the third round out of Wisconsin, Michael that apparently can play all over the line, but you on James left. He decided to go to Denver side a big time contract. Now, you do have new line coach in there as well. Pat Flaherty, I believe offense of line coaches. Some of the most underrated coaches in the NFL. There's no explanation for how the patriots continue to have good offensive line play other than Dante scar Nekia because these guys go elsewhere like Nate sold or any stinks. The guy. Not good anymore. And then they break in guys that perform at a high level like Trent Brown was a cast off in San Francisco. He goes to the patriots, then becomes the highest payed left tackle on the market. What he signs with the raiders? Okay. So offense of line coaches are highly underrated in terms of their importance to the team. So maybe a new system there in Miami. Maybe they can protect Josh Rosen better. But I just wonder from Josh Rosen perspective if this is the right landing spot from the personnel. I'm happy is getting a new opportunity somewhere else. Because clearly it would have been a mess there in Arizona if they kept him there. But in terms of what Miami has to offer Josh Rosen. It seems like he's not being put in a situation where he's got to be able to have success. And that's the issue. I have because last year we saw the guy was completely beat up. He took a ton of hits last year. And it seems like based on what Miami has in terms of. Devante parker. Kenny stills doesn't have a lot of weaponry. Then they had a poor offensive line last year, it appears they're going to have a bad offensive line. Again. I just wonder does Josh. Rosen actually have a legitimate chance to actually

So he was going more from line drives and raising the batting average. And he actually did not give up all that much power. I call this an improving player. I do think you should be drafting him treating him valuing him around way finish on the player raider. But I think there's growth potential here. And you know, we say not necessarily look at batting average. When you're looking at points league's players, but it is something to to notice when you're talking about a guy who you would not be surprised to hit two seventy wouldn't shock you from that Chapman. Throw that into a point sleep format. And you're definitely looking at someone who probably should be taken sooner rather than later. Absolute. What are we got this building on that AJ mentioned the batting average Chapman hit to seventy eight for the year. But three oh nine in the second half. Which do you think he's closer to this year? Bad second. I think he saw different pitches. That's possible. He kinda short in the swing. He cut five percent off his caring. I mean, I think he's emerging into a potential thirty thirty five home run guy. That's two seventy and that would be tough fifty player for sure. I mean, we're talking maybe are not a lot. Of course field is this what Nolan are not. I would look like out of course field. And by the way, Aaron auto out, of course field you you wouldn't take him in the first round. No, I think you take him in the second round. I still think he'd be an exceptional player, but the batting average would tumble a little bit. All right. What's next? All right. Mark wants to know congenial. Tyrone continue to make the leap forward and potentially be a top fifteen pitcher then along with that you want to know if you want tight on Jack flirty in dynasty league. Either strong feelings those pictures, I am a big Jack Flaherty fan. I was a little surprised to see the rankings of not just you guys. But like other people don't seem to like flowers much as I do wondering, why that is strikeout rate concerns is operatives obviously there, but which of you got either you have Tyler Flaherty ranked a lot ahead of the other. I mean, it's ten spots a lot. Yeah. Lot over flower flower to and for me, it's because one of the major stats appoints league when I look at pictures, it's the Kate Abebe rate, and if it is a far below three fifty three point five is like the line, and we're projecting pretty much already to be under three. That's not a place. You wanna be? He just walks are too many hitters. He's one of those ten caper nine guys. So that that's an issue for me. Where's the guy like, Tyrone? You know, the KGB is we've projected four point two. That's fantastic. Yeah. I mean that park in a points league. Yes..

"I go with the bears there as well. Top secondary. Bucky? I think we go to the AFC north. What do you think you can go to the AFC north? We can go with man, the Bergen wouldn't go with the Baltimore Ravens. And what they do when I look at this secondary to me. It starts in the middle. We work inside out. Tony jefferson. Eric to do a great job of controlling the middle of the feel and then when you look outside Molin Humphry Jimmy Smith this still getting contributions from Brendon car. This is a team that plays. Great defense in the back end. They can lock you up a man to man, they can give you exotic disguises in zone blitzes and also played traditional straight zone. Coverage is because of the versatility to collective high Q of their back in the Baltimore Ravens have an outstanding secondary. They deserve to be in this conversation. Yeah. You got the size in the athletes on the outside. And then the inside you've got the instincts and the awareness and the ball. The skills of their safety do all. So I I think it is a beautiful combination. They have there in the secondary for the Baltimore Ravens. And I I'm with you Bucky. I do believe that is the best secondary in the NFL. All right. Buck side, it'd be joined by our good, buddy. Get a chance to talk with him in the spring each and every year wanted to bring him in a little bit earlier this time he is a senior director of performance at Nike Ryan Flaherty joined the show, right? How you doing man? I'm good, man. How are you guys doing doing great, man? I I want to just ask you first of all can you believe that we're almost to the end of the football season. And we're going to be start start getting ready for the draft here before you know, how how did we get here so fast? I don't know man recording every single year for like the nine months calendar year. Or you talking to kids if you know about training and and agent for calling it it's starting to heat up already. It's crazy. You know, right. I'm really fascinated by the process, obviously when I was coming out in ninety four we didn't have this kind of boutique training where you could get specialized training to get ready for the combine can you kind of walk us through the process that you take the athletes through from the time they walk through the doors of your building to the time to get ready to perform in Indianapolis at the combine. Absolutely. So I mean, it's generally all start talking to you know, kids of the families after their regular season game. So before the bowl game in the month of December knee with families and kind of get a feel for who I'm going to work with and then they all land pretty much like the day or two two days after the bowl game. So if you're playing on January one near six game, they'll come in on the second or third and once they get there. They move into a little, you know, condo or -partment. We do the training in Orange County, California. So southern California between LA and San Diego, and they move into a little condo there. And we going and we have about usually when they start in early January. We have about seven to eight weeks to get them ready for the combine. And so we got about eight weeks of training, and you know days are Monday through Saturday. We usually do like a beat or you know, if you'll be training on the field session, the mornings position work, and then we'll go in the weight room in the afternoon, and it would be generally from like eight AM to. Two two two o'clock PM in and out of you know, training, or or meetings or interview proper kind of film study or whatever a lot of the agents kinda put that stuff on. And then and then it goes all the way up until the the combine. And then once they get the combine they'll test, and then and then they'll come back and won't get them ready leading up to the pro day. But it's it's a full range.

"That is to say bright guys and flaherty smile or with racial implications like dark skin and dreadlocks okay john how do you approach that so i think the crucial thing to start off here with it's like there's no sort of perfect answer to that's and you're always gonna wrestling with two sort of competing instincts so if you as a writer say nothing the reader walk likely to fall to cooking at these characters as white unless you've done something in the universe under script to make them reach a little bit beyond white so if the other courtesy your world are diverse that might be taking more to first about this character but in general you can can i say place in the people are going to think it's characters a white most he could've saw the reason not to think of their white the second thing to keep in mind is that every choice is a choice and so the more specific the choice the more important the raiders and i think it is that you made that choice so they're going to asking at weiss the boston make entered if what is me some good reason why the process to make it it's going to pay off in some way and so you might beat through over signaling things you tell me into signal so you had we're to the competing things where you're trying to the bo specific about who your characters are and also like not just the match to fall light all these things so as an example let's think about a character in your script who's like apparel legal and to you specify race for that para legal who's in like two or three scenes it's really hard to say.
