Xfinity Series Champion Austin Cindric
"On the final with us. Today is austin syndrich. Welcome back to the program of great. Thanks for having me all right. So twenty twenty. Xfinity series champion That's got a nice ring to it right. Yeah without a doubt. I mean you work in an entire year. Obviously this year's been been crazy and trustful for a lot of people and a lot of different ways and Obviously rise to the occasion on on on the right weekend is is is ideal but The the work put in all season. It definitely makes you gratifying. So i take us through this closing laps. What was going through your head. Obviously we had. We pulled away in the lead with older tires there and I thought that was the hard part and turned out You know caution with three to go Having to come in and put on tires and that we are at a pretty big deficit I think that was the right call to make but putting yourself by maple on on on the offense and Having having to make two laps and make it happen when a championship in the with with with our competition definitely wasn't gonna be easy and putting a three wide off at turn four to win the championship Was was pretty cool. I thought i thought we all wreck for for a moment there and Definitely definitely dramatic finish and Glad glad we had to earn it but Definitely go out. It will all work out. What What did you do to celebrate. So yeah i've been trying to do the maximum obviously The different year As far as getting people together and enjoying things with that'd be with my guys do people shop or or or just my friends and family so That that part's obviously been a bit more of a challenge but Saturday night after the race. I can promise you. The the twenty two team had a great time and Major everybody got back to their rooms. Nice and safe but Otherwise it was it was. It was a fun night. looking forward to To enjoy during the season and coming back even harder and twenty twenty one. What are some of the things. That are a champion has to do during the week. Afterwards is it. Is it more than you expected. i think it's a lot of things that i wanna do myself It's it's. It's not things that that other people will put me up to as far as Like i said. I've had to be very creative in the last couple of days. Far as trying to figure out. Like i said what the maximum is that i can do to to to enjoy championship with with my team But also making sure i don't even turn you don't wanna championship every day and It's really difficult to do this in. Obviously we had the opportunity. Try new again next year but Trying to make sure that that. I don't miss anything almost anyone and I enjoy the moment obviously You're going to be kind of like the the face of the sport or the the face of the xfinity series for next year. What does it mean to be a champion and carry that flag. I think anyone who's watch watch series for the last couple of years. Watch me grow develop at the driver. Obviously i have my one one season in the truck series beforehand but that was it and As far as my career. So i've come a long way in a short amount of time and and i think Anyone who's watched those races that seeing that Has it's hopefully been able to create that. And as as seen this team really rally around me and in my development and obviously it's been a lot of fun to be able to do that and go on win races. And and then put ourselves in contention all year so it obviously Gives us more to look forward to. Obviously there's going to be great competition next year. I excited excited to see the full line. Up of drivers that We get to compete against and Looking forward to doing doing the most. We can't to make it back to phoenix and try and contempt for another championship now. Obviously every year. There's a big awards banquet at the end of the year this year. It's going to be a little different than can be more of a an awards show. I'm sure you're still looking forward to it because you're going to be honored. Their yeah i just want to get back all hours. Upset at other people's banquets watching other people talk. I want to do the talk. Our team to get the talking but It's it's obviously a challenge but No it's hopefully. Everyone can tune into that. I i got got wrapped up with with my obligations for that Just just yesterday actually so Looking forward to seeing that. It's also fun to to to to share that with with the other. Competitors are in shown creative while we were in nascar Production dairy and talk and talk to him about his race and and obviously Obviously chase elliott pretty pretty cool for the sport there and Obviously very well deserved for him and his family's well. We're on with xfinity series champion for twenty twenty austin syndrich and every year penske. Does this big olympic style kind of stuff with all their drivers and and and and crew members and stuff like that. This year was dodgeball How'd you do was it fun. It looked awesome while. I'm gonna brag on myself here for a minute because In p when. I was in middle. School and high school dodgeball was my thing. Okay i i don't know why i i obviously love it but For whatever reason. I just have a knack for it so When when they decided they were going to dodge ball with all the penske drivers i was. I was pretty keen so the game. They go to penske social channels. They haven't shared up on there. But i was the last man standing for a very long time Got a lot of people. I got blaney out by far the most athletic driver on our team pretty. I got him out early in the game But yeah it's great fun it. It's it's so cool. Because we're such a diverse group of drivers. As far as the different race series and and you know different nationalities and obviously we really different personalities. So that's always a really fun amick and I hope everyone enjoys that kind of stuff. I'm sure it's a big A team bonding kind of thing as well. Hey later today you've got a alive. Qna online. Are you are you nervous with some of the fans might ask you know. I don't think so Obviously we've got like said the life you and eight six six thirty on penske social channels on facebook and Looking forward to seeing the turnout we get for that. Because it'll be my crew chief. Brian wilson talking about Pretty much our season that race. Everything that's come down to it. Obviously brian i ever really greatly relationship and Look look forward to take jabs. Adam if i can't tonight what are some of the things are gonna be doing in the off season Both to relax and maybe even stay sharp for next year. Yeah i'm i'm still working on that. But i made a long list on the flight home from phoenix as far as things don't want to do and i i started to realize i'm probably not going to get everything done. I'd say top of that list is continue to work on my project car. I've got an eighteen ninety three volvo station wagon that i've been doing a Coyote swap was basically putting the the drive train. The the motor from a ford mustang. So go to five hundred horsepower. Engine in a in a ninety station wagon is has been no small feat. I've been working on this thing for for two years. Now doing all the work on myself so it's been really fun to to learn that Learn that side of things i. I think it's made me a better driver. And the obviously it's a it's a great pastime. Okay that's one of the most unique rebuilds. I think i've ever heard what's the goal for that. Car the goal is to be stupid or noxious. It's gonna race track. It's just it's just supposed to be loud stupid and fast. The car actually ways Significantly less than most most rijkaard's. It's actually smaller than you think being a station wagon. It's only twenty pounds. So a couple of hundred pounds lighter than most modern cars so nothing's gonna rip so Hopefully i get tight and have some fun with it so looking looking to make a pretty big debt absolutely now over the next year and a half or so. You've got a lot of things plan. Obviously going xfinity series racing next year. Defending that The championship and you're also going to have some cup series races Have they decided that your schedule yet. No it's definitely ongoing. Obviously gotta make sure things work logistically and and try and figure out the the right thing whether it be my development or having partners on the car but I'm excited for for that opportunity to to learn at the high level But i'd say if there is a race that i wanna do They're they're going cup racing at road. America on july fourth weekend is going to be amazing so I'm hoping that i can get to do that. One that one's definitely at the top of my list but Overall just just happy to happy to have that kind of an opportunity happy have the groundwork laid out for for for for my development over the next couple of years that's very challenging thing to to navigate in the sport especially the drivers so Looking forward to taking advantage of that opportunity and make the most of your drivers don't have the opportunity of knowing. Hey after next year. I'm going cup racing. They don't usually know that You still got to keep the eye on the ball for the community series. But i'm sure you're still excited about twenty twenty two. Yeah without a doubt to have that opportunity. Go race for the wood brothers in in in twenty twenty two. Obviously that's a that's a family. That has a huge legacy in the sport and The opportunity to to build on that legacy is something i definitely. Don't take lightly. I i love the history of the sport but also the the wood brothers eddie. Len modern john. Those guys who have been big supporters of mine Since since i've really come into nascar so excited to get to work with them here in the next couple the next couple of months after after twenty twenty one and Really really start the next chapter of my career with those guys so Very grateful for that as an opportunity. But i really really focused on defending title. It'd be be great taylor to walk out the as two time champions but a lot of work that needs to be done in a lot of hard competition to the face before then all right for sure last question any plans for the rolex twenty four working on that man that's that's always grind. I mean that is that is a given so Definitely definitely doesn't hurt to in the off season In style like this but Yeah i i wanna i wanna do the rolex again This past year was actually the first year in in three years that i hadn't done it so actually spotted the race for one of the penske cars which being outside in the middle of the night for twenty four hours is enough motivation for for trying to find drive the next year. I don't know what is so I'm i'm excited to try and try and navigate that I want to win that race. Really bad that's that's that's where i've been really passionate about for a long time a lot of miles in a lot of hours in so Still still on the lookout for for the right combination and Hopefully hopefully things down before the holidays. All right. he is the twenty twenty extended series champion. Austin syndrich thanks as always for being on the final

"The highway will right. He's like a coach builder right. He's a designer but his cars are drivers and so he the other the other guys their fire cars they drive they all drive and two of the forehead plates on him but they are show cars fundamentally okay but murray's car has fire right it's got they a liquid based fuel that at it's got a you know spark plugs in the in things and you rev it to add air really add airflow and it shoots fire not this one. The his is the convertible along that one. Yeah it's a fifty six ca. It's i'm sorry convertible. it's not a convertible. That's a hard top. It's just a cloth arts up and the revving of the engine shoots fire back and it kind of leaves trails like back to the future where it drips. It drips the trails that leaves these trails. Okay that's kind of cool. That's very cool and you kind of creep and you do that. The big boy. Shit that system that murray has is the igniter further big one like a nuclear bomb uses a stick of dynamite to ignite the nuke right. That's like this holy. His regular system is the igniter for the big boy. That's quite the bumper sticker dude. Yeah really that's really really cool. Yeah so i mean. There's you know like i said not a lot of Cultural depth to this episode. Besides you know a brief history of cars the shoot fire but it was really just opportunity to put point cameras at fucking cars shoot fire. Do that's the best part of this job thing. I want to experience that thing and its way out there. You know you've driven everything now. You're on cars that you eighty foot fireballs and hamas the drift. That's right Mill spec the mil spec hummer down there. The the drift hummer which we filmed and was funk in really fun i liked the mil spec guys a lot. It's real. they're really funny. It's like You know they build these sort these tactical hummers and you expect them to be these like super bros. but they're actually like like hipsters Like when you go to the place where they build this hummers. It's like really clean really studio like there's like fixing bicycles around and like really nice coffee and like it's not like bro. A detroit shit. It's it's like oh wait. Who are these guys. what are you doing. You know it's Why didn't they get into this This vehicle versus other ones. I think they just saw the opportunity and they thought they thought there was a lot to improve their thought. There was a lot that you can do with with. What was there are true. They're hamas are fucking crazy. I mean. I drove their regular one again and then i drove this drift thing. It's pretty wild. I mean the you can you. You can almost fully on shit box hammer. You can get really really close like the. They're they're like They're like belts. They're they're a half a bump behind icon because they're not like insane like jon ward. Is you know what i mean like. They're they're they're detail oriented. They do a really good job. They care about the product. The the final product is like way better than the original ever was. But they don't have that john lev ward level of like just a bat shit every artistry little bit everyday living but considering what they started with hummers terrible and and considering what they started with and what they're delivering to customers is shockingly good product. Originally it was army vehicles. That's meant to be durable and made as cheaply as possible but lasts as long as they need to laugh right so it's going to be really really simple where it needs to be really really simple. Right you know. They they put in the. Durham max Engine and it's five hundred horsepower. And one thousand pound feet of torque say put the allison six speed gearbox which is electrically controlled. Quick hundred stuff. Yeah it's fine. I mean it's it's not sports car gannett's as push button gear selectors and It's got transfer case you can go rear wheel drive you know. And they re do with suspension. It's got good shocks put. It's hamas h wants inboard brakes but they put a six piston big brake kit in whoa and they eliminate the central tire inflation system which is a piece of junk. yeah They they completely disassemble the car to the nuts and bolts and and powder coat everything and and make it nice and trim it all out nice and whatever marine grade. You know stereo and know the whole deal they do. They do a nice job in their cars. Their trucks are fucking cool. Do do they get lighter. Like we're hummers really really heavy. Because of the weight of like the axles and the engine everything or was it just. The body is big. It's made of steel. That's why they're having everything everything about hamas crazy heavy They they were like eighty five hundred pounds civilian re civilian ones. And actually the mil spec ones get heavier because the engine and the gearbox are heavier and because they rhino liner the entire body. Wow they add like three four hundred. Pounds of rhino liner. Well so they go from eighty five hundred to about nine thousand ninety five hundred but they've got double the horsepower and almost triple the torque And they're also more fuel-efficient you know because of the gearing and whatnot. They handle better. They have better break so my homer eighty was a hard maximum on the on the freeway and really it stopped being comfortable around sixty five above sixty five was like probably going too fast for this thing. You know this this one can comfortably cruise. you know it goes to the. They're they're I don't i don't have a picture. Handy of their of their Production truck but their production truck runs like a fourteen second quarter mile. Whoa you know. And the the the drift tomor which is fifty two hundred. Pounds allow runs a low eleven. Whoa yeah runs. Eleven diesel trucks. That run really fast. Quarter very light. Diesel truck with all wheel for So this yellow. One is their newest one. Yeah we try to go in. We didn't film it. We the black one but but The it is. It's really nice. I mean it's look the things that are you know the size of a hummer. it's still hammers sized. obviously so it's not it's not ideal but the engine gearbox the steering and the fact that she can put it in rear-drive only makes get your long way it gets you a really long way Were because we we grew up. I think Kind of revering these because they look tough and they were cool and then when you find out later that they drive terribly which makes sense given what their purpose was but if people wanna collect them or drive them around or offer them and if you if every time you get in and it's like this chore to drive it you're not gonna wanna use that much so if you could make more usable than you can afford it like yet do then you wanna take on jeep trails and over landing and everywhere else and i was at You know doing this promotion with bonhams. They're doing the supercars on sunset auction. In one of the things they're auctioning is a really nice very low mileage. H one alpha wagon the nicest they ever got from the factory and so i was over there getting some instagram shots. A compared to the mil spec dude. You're listening to preoccupy. Estimate like two hundred k. And i bet they'll get it too because hamas are hot right now but compared to.

"For clean power I don't understand why they're focusing they've been focusing on electric a lot of it's probably politics to with that but hydrogen is gonna be the best replacement for for combustion for gas because Germany and some of the other European countries they were already doing like hydrogen and a hydrogen BMW like twenty years ago with five hundred horsepower and and when hydrogen burns in a car engine it comes out water and it'll talked a lot about that over the years and because because why do you think it hasn't caught on I am politics now I don't know I don't know enough about that the politics for the electrical thing but I'm sure it's usually a doozy about some kind of money or politics when you look if you can look into it enough but because it doesn't make any sense to me because electric power is I don't think it's ever going to replace the gas because even if you have a good range you still have to look for charging stations in and then wait for Carter charges never gonna charge about the you can fill a tank of gas stop it is not going to be convenient and not to replace gas that's a fact okay so we're solar power is never going to replace the regular electric power from a group from a great it just isn't there's not enough technology and well no there's enough technology now and I think this is right I mean we're not going to make some predictions based on that we'll never know they're out because we've we would if if going by your theory once steam power had been established we known was predicting petroleum and then after petroleum nobody was predicting how efficient we could get with petroleum and but I mean I I think that would simply point out not because I looked we talked about you may be a new covered it coast to coast but we talked about hydrogen vehicles on the show for a very long time and they they do make come I'm AT and certain markets have them in a and so this this process is you you know as you point out is it's not new but something is not it's not catching on it for something that should be as simple as this something I don't think it's governments I think the government should love I I think there's a lot of places that would love to see this kind of technology I think there's a lot of government so would love to become like state government would love to become the first you know major producer of hydrogen vehicles because a lot of the other vehicles that have taken the place or or at least edged out something like diesel or other not that those states have done very well by building new plants and attracting new workers so I I hope that there's a future for that I I don't I'm not as cynical as to think that somehow somebody stopping it I think somehow it hasn't caught on and there's not enough the right minds haven't gotten together enough to create the advertising campaign or the sloganeering or whatever that's necessary to get people to want to get a hydrogen vehicles so I I think it's it's good to remind us that this is something we should be on the look out for but it's not new on the show and I hope that we do get it up in our lifetime we got time for one more let's go with the and let's go with the Marty whose east of the Rockies in Delaware on coast to coast Marty I can't believe I got through absolutely anyway I didn't get in for the longest time to try to touch base quickly with Barry one of these times will get I'll get the talk show and I have macular degeneration also like he does accept he he got it in older in life like most people DO I got mine when I was like eight years old and well that's very rare and so and I had my older brother the same they say they think it may have been caused by is it would you get sick as a small child yeah and you get really hit was a lot like antibiotics in right really check well we we when we put you on hold right now to get you in touch with berries lets you first things first so we'll put you on hold very if you're listening Marty would love to talk to you and if you call back maybe we get in a line for you and get you to connected as we head into the bottom of the hour on coast to coast AM this is the opponent.

"The things I have enjoyed this full and enjoy is these cool alterations that you can make two vehicles the I guess getting them ready for you'll personalization and I was at sema this year we got opportunity to see what Toyota had done to the supers they had twelve of them I think on the stand and the way everything from mild to wild I got to see some of the ones that had an awful lot done in some of the ones that had some body kids Sam the over five hundred horsepower lots of deliciousness I you know how much I wanna supra I keep getting smacked down so I'm not allowed to are you getting smacked down because I have too many cars in the driveway but I I really tried hard I tried so hard to get one was just told no city want me there like put on yes I'm Fauria okay well you have a big enough driveway for crying out loud you can do it at least twelve to fifteen vehicles am I the wage and what was the first year of the Toyota dealership in the United States fifty seven looking here Brainiac tiny where was it Holly lose yeah there you go Thailand bride is doing is on the phone from from Toyota supra rather see my vehicles Tyler first of all it must've taken a lot of teams a lot of time to get the supers ready for the show yes absolutely and Hey Jen great job on knowing that Toyota history about fifty seven and start in Hollywood well done thank you well my question is why did they open it up on Halloween that's a great question I never got the answer so if you can find that for me let me know well I know what you know and I'll come back with that answer yeah you're right there is a there's a ton of work that goes into steam every year you know from not just what what cars are gonna future but what the display looks like know what message you know we're gonna have with groups are involved each other generates it's quite the amount of cooks in the kitchen but in a good way you know as you can see you you know what we showed at sema last month was the result of all of those all that collaboration and I will tell you too I for the Fox Sports show I was going to sit down with that Lakis and talk to him and he of course put it sounds super together with Rutledge wood they sort of had a for any bit of competition going on so absolutely yes so ed had his what will be called the heritage Justin G. R. super heroic position and then relish that is G. R. super hyper boosted fission and they they leverage their their social media networks to you really get some online voting going on in and it squeaked out a victory with the help see I would have gone from Rutledge first of all because you know he's obviously a TV personalities a mascot guy he's he's on a million and one different shows all the time wares adds much more of an easy I mean he's a car enthusiast of course we get to sit down every year and talk about because together but he's also an executive and he's in charge of marketing at Toyota so he doesn't he's not really a face of the brand as much as Rutledge's is well known face so did was there some soup Toyota shenanigans and they're using that their social media to try and help and a little bit yeah so I know what we we gave the seller on the Toyota thank we get you brought equal social presence to ride as well as that but ed did leverage like Jamie little and a few other friends to really Bruce's score his his really great Kerr you know yet the mark for addition programming on the back yeah so all mentioned when I was a on the way to the airport after the press conference that was with me so you know if you knew what I was gonna vote there you know it wasn't exactly it is a time to really way either side it had to be had for me but but it was it I mean of the voting showed it was very close extremely close because they were two very awesome fantastic supers we had of the split now which one was your favorite actually neither of the two I like I like that was all there was sobbing with my study concept yeah the thing about green cards I do uhhuh okay do you remember the come on I want to look you're lying and yeah and yeah he has a thing about green I don't know what it is I'm attracted to to green because for some reason so Nick do you think we should make the list so I'll be colored production level for all to bridge right we can I interrupt just for second take a quick break I want to continue this when we.

"To on the other end of the spectrum let's assume mirka freedom is intact and you can buy anything you want the long passes emissions as license plates on whatever i got a friend who owns a body shop and they fix exotics and people fucking trash exotic cars very rarely get hurt that's really really safe the carbon sell stuff especially the cars are super super safe it's not it's not common for someone to have an accident at a normal road pace and be hurt in one of those cars just just throwing that one and now it's it's a good counterpoint i guess for me it's just strange people associate in these cars are faster than lotteries cars way faster than most people and you look at it it's like it's not a race car you can't race it but it's it's crazy to me says a streetcar right it's perfect as a streetcar you can think about s that is but i just feel like they're crossing a line at this point on track days you can you know you could but you know i i wouldn't mind if there was a if there was a license for owes at horsepower our those someone throwing out licenses yeah one guy said in the different test over hundred twenty five cc based on horsepower i don't know if that's you care elsewhere and a one twenty five fifteen horse to forty eight horse okay so there are motorcycle licences somewhere in here in los angeles you don't need a license to write a fifty c forty nine c scooter and you need of that but when i think's weird is as as cars go on the us market you know we're seeing now with f bodies and stuff like aren't the performance right now is is accelerating and getting really really high and eventually that shit's going to be eight thousand bucks and then you're gonna have a high school kid who works hard by something that comes with five hundred horsepower like then what do you do with the license program on the cost of it i don't know that would be yeah what happens to people you know like i'm just bringing it up i'm not saying you should or should they real question is do people crash you know these these the newer sports cars more so than they crashed ferrari three fifty five you know what i mean or i know a lot of people fucking crashed four gt's because they were tricky to drive and they had no stability control of any kind and a lot of people crashed them and now that i think that probably happens less good point well you have all the stability control systems or advance now to it really does keep you out of trouble off a lot of times it's still there is a safety nut how about this what regardless of price what's your favorite we talk about these race cars these fast cars all this crap what.

"Is actually really quick okay now the good news is for those who are interested in modifying cars like the focus rs is a good example if you do like i'm pretty sure this isn't like surprised anybody or or confidential but matt mountain as development car with a bigger turbo on it excuse me that that that moves the power band upward more to what you would think is normal for a four cylinder car while also making a fuck ton extra power you know because they really use an undersized turbo for the normal regular focus rs so they have they have one i and i don't want don't anyone quote me on this because call mountain if you're interested i whatever i i thought the number was five hundred at the crank that's what they said they said five hundred horsepower crazy yeah but i don't know what their actual production like pump gas numbers are whatever but but they said is it laggy and they're like no because the regular car has this surjit too and so you just move the surjit tutu the surgeon three yeah and it's like nor it feels like normal again see that makes i mean the s is kind of an extreme example because that's more of a performance platform with tie bar the new twenty whatever it is and you know if you look at like the eko turbo cars that are not like that that seems like engineers spent like five minutes tuning them like the hyundai kia four poppers used to gas all it does and rev hang the and they make excuse how it's for missions and then you hit the gas it just spins the tires and the traction control comes on in the powers gone mazda everything is smooth but all the powers cut and that's why i didn't like the focus rs from the factory is feel is electric interference because that's the only way they can have this type of power and torque control to the front wheels and you know to the.
