Like so many people in the world and athletes job has suddenly been disrupted and income has stopped coming in competition stopped. They're no longer going to their equivalent of the office and they're trying to figure out what comes next and volcanic was great. He is in western Canada right now. In like so many of us is in this cosmic holding pattern. So we talk about what? It's like for an athlete. Their career suspended and we talk a little bit about tennis politics. As well of course we would not even a global pandemic caused tennis to unite quite the contrary on Tuesday. We got news at the French Open was unilaterally grabbing these dates in late September early October for a hopeful reschedule the twenty twenty French Open This caused quite a bit of consternation in tennis land. We talk about that in a number of other topics so Nice conversation with one of the good guys. Here's Varsha Hospital. We are recording this Wednesday about noon. East Coast time. I appreciate you doing this. Yeah this is strange strange times and I figured we. Can you know you can always talk tennis? Politics Plum. I'm more interested in what life is like for you. How how are you doing? What are you doing? I'm doing okay. I'm while I've I've back to Canada about four five days ago. Came from from southern California. Were Indian Wells and Sonam in isolation basically. I'm I'm staying home. I'm trying to learn how to cook which is not going so well. I'm trying not to go out. And obviously you know it's really important to be to be responsible now especially as the spire spreads and Um so I just Especially for the older population. I mean that's that's the the biggest risk right so yeah very very strange times and very talk times. I mean this is You know not fun right now. That's for sure and it's Think the world's in top place right now in your in Vancouver right yeah. I'm I'm in Vancouver. Yeah to kid. Can you go you know run around Stanley Park? Can you do anything to stay in shape? Yeah you can. I mean there's It's a it's a recommended quarantine at the time at this time. It's not a mandatory one. Ah so you can go outside But I mean I'm only going outside to work to run in the in the park and try not to to make contact with anybody. Obviously because I think right now I said You know until we fully understand this this thing. It's it's important to to kind of make sure you distance yourself from from people so I'm spending about ninety percent of the time it indoors or more I should say and And trying to do work out here as well have been doing some like you know. Sit Bodyweight stuff. Sit ups push ups the in these kinds of basic things to do when I was a kid so Yeah just trying to do what I can. But which is talk. When you're you're indoors all day. Do you have a time in your head? What are you thinking? I anticipate coming back in time. And how is this playing out mentally? No I'm I'm You know I don't think anybody really knows how long it will take. I mean I think it's pretty safe to say that the next couple of months. Are you know pretty much a scratch in terms of in terms of the tennis tour? I'm not sure Novica announcements even unofficially. I'm not sure but I don't see. Don't see that being the case and obviously now we saw the rolling girls changed their dates. So you know clearly they're not expecting Think say improve very quickly either and But at the same time we never know but I'll be very surprised if if if there were any tournament. Thanks next to two months or three months so it sounds like this is as much a mental challenge of physical. One you can. You can get yourself back and playing shape but if you don't know when that next event is gonNA come. It must be hard to mental mentally account for a comeback. Yes it is and and the other thing is I mean it. Yeah it definitely is because we're not we're not used to training are playing without A target in mind in terms of the next competition is either. You're you're not trading because you're injured and then when when you're you know Healed up then you have an idea of when you want to start playing in your training for that in mind. So it motivates you and your training with a purpose right now you kinda feel You know that a anything we do right now could be completely pointless so it's also not a bad time to rest body because the tennis season is so long and we never really get time to rest to rest which is which is also important right so I mean that's that's one thing I'm not really intending are pushing my body too much next couple of weeks for sure and and even so. I'm not quite sure when when it'll be time to push the body. I'll just try to stay. You know relatively Relatively good shape just to be more more so just to be ready to handle handle workload once. It's time to start training so I don't think I'll know that for a while. I wonder if if you guys don't say this is. This is now a sport where you play into your late thirties. Maybe it's a disguised. Blessing that at age twenty nine you. You've got this three month period of inactivity the two up yeah. I mean yeah well in terms of yeah in terms of You know arrests for the body. It's definitely like a good thing To to to have a bit of a break obviously You know nobody. You know you don't want it to be in circumstances like this. You don't want a virus to be the reason you know a global threat to be a reason for that but but But of course yeah there are some some things you can some positives of some things you can take for sure. But but overall it's Not Idealistic Get can I ask you about about income about finances? We all saw that Jovovich and the doll and they deserve every penny they. They've made as far as I'm concerned but some players have the means to To whether this no problem but how our players getting through this with no income source while I mean I. I've been very fortunate. I mean I'm I'm in a difference You know a little bit different position where I've I've been able to save up some money over. The years had good results. So so I'm I'm just in a very fortunate state where where you know. This doesn't necessarily impact me in a very big way. So I'm I'm very lucky in but that's not the case with as you can see with most most people in the world in general and and in Tennessee as well as tough because You know if you're you're not a consistent let's say top fifty player big results or had money saved up. Then you know the players that are outside of the top hundred there there You know I'm sure they're in very very difficult situations. And not just a unfortunate reality and and I'm not really sure what what The tour will will do if they will do anything. I'm pretty sure they're they're working on solutions right now to help those with with lower incomes. help them financially. Because I think you know they're obviously the ones that that that probably needed needed. Most you know having said that obviously affect everybody right suddenly you don't have income and your expenses are always high even though maybe now they're not so much but but Yeah I mean I think I think it affects the tennis world just as much as as It affects you. Don't a lot of a lot of other industries obviously minus atop the top ranks players. That have made a lot of money. Yeah exactly and you're you're right. We should point Mrs something that Every Marriott hotels in every restaurant in the world everyone is wrestling with the same issue at some level I mean have you heard our players sticking with their coaching arrangements? I mean are. You're not probably expenses. But they're still expensive for players. Have you heard about tennis players? Making adjustments there no haven't really Other than just what will you know what I'm doing personally? I haven't really You know I'm not really aware of what what's been going on with the other players and their arrangements in the coaching. I mean it's I think I think It's just kind of a tough tough time. Where were suddenly you know even coaches and physios and fitness trainers were were? Nobody's making any in common But you know I I think it depends on the the agreements that that each player has with their teams individually. So it's I think there's still a lot of question marks that I think will be answered next couple of weeks. I think once you know maybe there's a bigger delay announced for now. The official announcement is still just six weeks of the tour being cancelled which like. I said. We'll be much more on it. I think once not announcement comes up. And maybe maybe there'll be some changes In around the you know the player often and compensation not sure it's a very interesting and Yeah I think we're just kind of thinking on our feet day-to-day and taking it as it comes right now. I mean a week ago. They that announcement came out about a six week. Delay and I think everybody was fairly shocked. And now boy if we get back out there in six weeks it'll be. It'll be a tremendous achievement. For for all of us. I never mind tennis. That will I think get off the very opportunistic. Get back to your actually totally. I mean I remember. Yeah when the announcement I came you know when Indian Wells was cancelled obviously Things have just EXCO. It's so much so quickly since then that that I mean it's it's. It's pretty incredible that week ago. We all surprised by the announcement. The whole tennis world in all the players were like. Oh Wow that's you know that's crazy like that's that's incredible and then L. Let's go on and then you know a few days later. There's just so many cases around North America and accelerated such such a speed that now it just seems unconceivable. That even be any tennis for for next while so Yeah interesting times and and I don't think six weeks is realistic right now. So

"Eating less and moving more doesn't have side effects he told yeah right and I need a quote on the board so the problem is when people are like I love it it's working for me because they don't understand right they're not understanding how it's taxing their level to do this they're not understanding how packing their thyroid how it's affecting their brain chemistry in their mood they're not understanding that these kind of guys that are extremely high in iron and saturated fat shortened lifespan they create more free radical damage which is oxidative stress early age here faster V. shorten your telomeres which is a little strand cap on the end of your DNA at makes salary did pay and literally your cells macromolecules are made up of protein fat carbohydrates and you quit gasket so when we're depriving the body of carbohydrates long term we're creating a PH balance in the body that is more acidic not to be confused with something called keto acidosis which is deadly but when you think about you don't think this way I don't like when you remove your nail Polish that's that's a pizza so our bodies making more the stuff it's changing the PH balance an hour that'll don't function as well in a very acidic environment and that is the gift of the iceberg yeah and so when people say like you don't know that you're just a fitness experts think I have written eight best selling book you think I write them a lot your walk they're always written with the appropriate doctors according to the subject matter there heavily researched and I don't make any money I don't have any agenda telling you Hey this is dangerous I can't eat less move more shows yeah like I I don't have an agenda I'm just warning it is a very dangerous thing to do for an extended period of time if you tried it for thirty days and you did but on the plant based all organic and stopped after that I would say okay that is the absolute limit on it but really honest to god the it will be a little less use common sense you're free choices move a little more and you'll get fantastic results you don't have to do right I mean any name was sugar you're not a big sugar Ivan can obviously if you are not over eating right then you don't have to worry about it so of course they don't love people doing processed white sugar it's it's terrible for you we just did it however let's say were eating eighteen hundred calories a day and we're going all right of these eighteen hundred I'm gonna make eighty percent better choices you know I mean I have the friggin aid why the whole grain toast for breakfast I'm gonna happen exactly not bad for you name it yeah I mean I have your word and very soon yeah I mean you make the better choice eighty percent of the time and the twenty percent of the time like I can have because I'm gonna have to go out anyway yeah and is longer you working in few your calorie allowance for the day how much you can eat with our game right so you basically if you're trying to maintain your weight you eat as much as you burn it's sort of like balancing exasperating but how do I know how much you should burn everyone is different well here's a great guy for you everyone can go on the internet networks did Google B. M. R. calculator that's legal metabolic rate and you can enter some basic information your age your height your gender your weight and this is going to give you a number right but it's going to be rough it's not perfect but it's it's pretty darn I use ready accurately with thousands of people or tech so why don't they do so they go to Google and they put in B. M. our calculator and they're gonna enter some very basic information it'll say like your age your gender your height your weight how much and it's going to spread out a number right so let's say mine thirteen hundred now that number is how many calories Lightbody birth involuntary bodily functions over the course of the day meaning if I just sat on the couch that's what you got rid of you got it exactly now we don't work we do nothing all day long so we're gonna pick an activity level I'm gonna give you for activity levels right level one you sit at a desk all day long you're very sedentary level two let's say you work as a car sales person and you're on your feet a little bit you're standing or walking around a bit you're you're not totally sedentary you're not overwhelmingly active that's the issue level three you are a fitness trainer you're very physical you know you're doubling exercises are hosting weight level for your construction worker you're extremely physical right now we're not we're not counting exercise right now right does your life your level right so I personally would be a three so it might be the metabolic rate is thirteen hundred and I am a level three I'm gonna take a one and a decimal point and put it before my level of this get re one point three if you're too with one point and you multiply that your your PMR number to my number would be thirteen hundred one point three and that's going to give me a darn accurate number and how many calories I. burn a day without fitness so I'm right around sixteen hundred and which is a lot hi Mary this way it was small private fiber calories well you're looking at if you look at it that way yeah you got a look at it that way right so it I like to use money is an example of money earning six hundred sixteen hundred and thirty caps you can earn fifty calories whatever I don't get to spend more than that I don't get the more than that stored as fat so now we're just gets a little tricky right how little kind of person he so if you're like whoa holy cow more eating thirteen hundred which isn't that much food enable the burning sixteen hundred if you need to lose thirty five hundred calories he got a burden thirty five hundred dollars more than you consume to lose one pound it'll take you like ten eleven days to move out and this is where people get really discouraged but what they're not understanding is eight there are no longer going to be there not even standing still it's still lonely rolling back but in order to move this thing this ball down the field at a decent clip you got it because that is going to take my sixteen hundred miss sixty number right and if you have to show me that twenty two twenty three hundred if I do you good thirty to forty minutes in the gym that day so not where people died they they try the diet without the fitness they count the calories they're so hungry the scale not budging it's not budging and they get super frustrated they start looking to god then they start to give up any creed it's really bad pattern or your yo yo dieting because you're messing with your metabolism and that is the key the key is figure out what your active metabolic rate is you know like what your allowance and he asked don't eat over that your under absolutely do not eat under twelve hundred calories if if you're trying to lose weight just don't you'll screw up your metabolism that the hungry you'll be miserable that is the absolute for with unlimited greens and then you can get many of those and not worry about counting calories green veggies and then if you want the way you could come up faster find a little more often that is the key to weight loss I'm talking to Jillian Michaels who's got this app called my fitness and you can get it on her website Jillian Michaels dot com or any of the apple or Google play app stores you can put it on your iPad your iPhone your apple

So I've got like an extra twenty minutes and I was just sitting here going over my day my push journal and I thought you know what I've got something on my mind. I WanNa talk to my my lifers about this one and it's really the idea that life is hard like well and sometimes life is good and easy and we don't always recognize nuys when it's good an easy. It's funny how that is right because you've ever given birth. If you have kids you gave birth to those kids. You know what I'm talking about like you quickly. We kind of forget the painful uncomfortable pieces and you consider having more sometimes but what I really wanted to talk to you about. Is it kind of that idea like talking about the perspective that eventually everything gets better the this is life and today actually yesterday I should say yeah it was yesterday. I was going through this big box of photos. I mean photos from when Britain. I all the way back to when we were just. I married newlyweds. Pictures from our wedding pictures from when Brock was first born and then when he was a toddler Adler and all the birthday parties and then Sierra being born in I do apologize. If you're listening I don't know what the deal is. There just are not as many photos of Sierra. I guess that's at Second Child Syndrome but in my own defense. It's also when like we started taking digital photos and so once everyone one-star doing that. We stopped printing photos. Are you with me like how many thousands and thousands of photos do you have on your phone right now. Div Not printed them like remember remember. How every single week? I don't know if you're old enough to remember this but we all used to go to costco or CVS or the drugstore like probably like once a week and you get this big giant pack of photos autos and it was so weird because you didn't know what you're going to be getting because you took the photos but you didn't have a digital camera to look and see like if the photos were going to be good or not you just picked up this huge stack of real photos. It's so strange that was like a minute ago and it was over. The course of Sierra's lifetime. We just went straight up digital so there aren't as many photos of her poor girl. Love you girl but anyways as I was going through those photos Brett was gone for a couple of days. I was like sitting on the floor and I'm going to these photos and I was really thinking about what was going on lives during those times times like looking at a phone going like. Oh Yeah Whoa I remember. I remember who was there that night. I remember getting a fight earlier that day. I remember remember the argument. I remember vying that skirt. I remember buying that dress like you know what I mean. All those memories were coming back to me but I really started for some some reason thinking about some of the more trying times over the course of the last twenty twenty five years and as I was looking to these photos otas thinking about some of those tough times. I was reminded that in those moments I remember feeling like would would never get better that it was so painful and so horrific in so uncomfortable. Whatever it was right because there's all these different stages there's just never you can't imagine it being incredibly different? I looked at photos when we were in our first Home together and thinking about how how many months we had to work to afford one window treatment. We had this one kind of bigger window in our downstairs area and I had a personal training client at the time who is a decorator and she had these like ornate beautiful window uh-huh treatments and just remember going. Oh Man let's have her designed one beautiful draperies like this beautiful ornate window treatment and and like we had a scrape up every penny to do that and and it felt like such an extravagant thing and I just remember thinking like what would it be like if we could do like all of our windows you know not just have this one night it was now we just have one window but like there's one area where we had like one big tall window anyways ways I remember feeling like will never be out of debt like will we ever have a savings. Will we ever have that time of the month roll around when and we have to pay our mortgage will we ever feel like it's not painful right and then and then I'm looking at more photos and remembering when things dig a little bit easier but but then I remember like then. I'm looking at times when the kids were little and just feeling so overwhelmed and so alone and feeling like Oh gosh this is so oh hard into my doing this right and it's so stressful and I just remember crying and crying because Brock would never stop crying crying when he was a baby and people say the rudest things like. Oh your babies Koloki because they're picking up on your energy you know that you see how it was blame and just remember so many of those struggles and then you know going through additional photos and seeing people who were in my life for a period of time who you know there are good and bad bad times and I remember like the really bad times. I remember like having relationship problems with like a person person who's like no longer in my life and to think about the grief that I was feeling in that moment and then to think like wow. I haven't thought about them in fifteen years breath that time in my life that person became all consuming then every time I I looked at another photo and thought back on what we. We're feeling at that time I would just take a deep breath and the sense of calm just kept coming over me as a reminding myself that nothing's permanent like everything gets better the worst of the worst pain and tough times and challenges. Eventually it gets better eventually. You are better for it. Nothing stayed the way it was. We made it through everything you have made it through everything. No matter how dark the the pain is it you feel right now no matter how much despair you feel and how sad you might be and how devastated stated you may feel this is GonNa pass things are GonNa get better. Your pain is not permanent

"I have a confession. Confession uh-huh Okay Confession. Well you know trick or treating was just around the corner or just previously and I just kind of dug into those. I can't can't stop eating it. I know it's like why can't I just get rid of it because it's like we have this big old bag of it and I just can't stop taking the two here I know it's it's awful but I mean it's an reality it's GonNa Happen now. Can't deprive yourself entirely things coming in the holiday. Okay and Christmas Christmas cookies going to be enjoying it all because we're not going to deprive ourselves of it right exactly but you know so. I think I've come up with a great solution because because even though I'm going to allow myself to have a cookie here and there or or you know good Thanksgiving meal without feeling guilty. Exactly I want to make sure I'm still like on target with staying healthy and And you know working towards my goal that yeah exactly and so you know feeling guilt free. I have a great solution. which is the Peleton? Oh my gosh you know what I'm talking about Italy. It's not read. It's amazing it's like having your own personal personal fitness trainer. Come to your house whenever you'd like. Yeah and you know I think like I want to set bigger goals and feel more accomplished with the peleton tread at miles miles and build strength with all the driving back and forth. You know to a gym but Those have it all here in your own home or you're going to be so a busy with the holidays anyways it's going to be you know didn't route to the gym and you won't have to worry about that part exactly just hop right on it. It's amazing yeah and you know you get to work up a sweat with world. Class instructors are running walking stretching or lifting right by your side. The motivation is like real time because you actually can work out with your friends on their. You know the coolest thing is what I love is you. Don't have to ever repeat the same routine over and over. There are so many to choose from Manoukian if you really want to but to which you know what I understand like wanting to try something different but which is cool but sometimes I like what I like like. I left the instructor and I get used to him and the playlist list he plays or she plays but an dislike like knowing what to expect. But then there's sometimes I'm like try something new you know see. I get bored easily early so I need a switch it up often. Yeah so that's it's perfect..

"Hey there welcome to this edition of of car smart Friday on the Shalini show which seatbelts on we're going for a ride welcome to the show lean show Jelena's a New York Times bestselling filling author celebrity fitness trainer in obsessed with helping you live your life so today I am answering your questions and these are really fun question so I posted this up on my instagram stories and I promised I would give you your answer. Some of these are really deep but I'm excited to talk about the stuff off by the way these are questions all pertain to like being successful or like going for it so the first question was why I do you think that people are afraid to go after their dreams and I think the reason why people afraid to go after their dreams is probably obvious it's either. They don't think they're anof. They don't think that they are big enough important enough smart enough that they're going to fail. L. And nobody wants to look stupid. Nobody wants to be vulnerable and that way and so. I think it's interesting that people don't go for their dreams. I think it's even more interesting when people don't have dreams or what. They say that they're dreamer. Their goal is it's like dude. You're already like that's just going to happen happen. It's like saying my goal is to someday be fifty one years old like that's GonNa Happen. You know what I mean like so often. I asked people like you know. What do you WanNa do like how how much money do you WanNa make or what would you like to build. How would you like to feel or look at things that there are already on pace for. That's not a goal. I mean that's not something that pushes you. That's not something that stretches you. When I'm talking about dreaming I mean giving yourself permission to dream think about something that feels elusive that feels difficult that feels far far away like Brenton I when we we're making our vision kind of like our five year plan if you will and we were doing this as part of a mastermind group remember the sunny. Do you remember orange when you're talking about three percents percent Yep. We're this mastermind group that we've formed where we invited the very first mastermind we did. I think this like two thousand nine we invited small group of people from different industries but all you know business folks but different stages like to the gals had like a a spray tanning business they were starting together and there was a psychiatrist and an inventor of physical therapists sutter capital of Yeah Yeah Venture Capitalists. It was Kinda cool. It was cool. It was really cool but anyways we did this exercise together as a group and we all wrote down what we wanted our lives look five years from that moment and Britain I wrote our own and then we were kind of comparing notes and one of our mutual dreams was to live on the ocean like live on the ocean or I should say on if near the ocean ocean your abuse like a Beach Beach House right. I don't know that was picturing living on the ocean but I was picturing living like you know I could see it where I look like a walk to the beach and yes and like frankly those homes here in southern California just to give you some perspective the same house that you were to buy like in a nice neighborhood neighborhood but off of the beach on the beach. It might be another add five million dollars. Would you say that about right. Maybe four million it depends on how big houses but yeah typically if you're moving towards the ocean you have a few of the ocean on the ocean. You're looking at you know four to six months in southern California yeah in addition to like that's minimum yes. Oh picture your average size house in southern California. You know how expensive that is and now take another four to six million on to the normal price they just because on the ocean so when we said that when we put that in our five year plan plan like that felt very dreamy. It didn't feel like it was for sure GonNa Happen. Were ready for it in the next year or two. That's for sure right and you know I said this today. I put that on paper but I am not an ally and tell you. I thought that was GONNA happen in five years. Here's how I create a dream and it's that would be super cool. I think it's within the realm of possibilities but I don't know that it's likely that's what I call a dream a dream emerson like I don't know if it's like that likely to happen. I can see that it's possible. That's a dream and I think too many of us too many view. You say okay well. Here's this dream but you know it's very likely if you just put a little bit of effort into it to come up with a dream that's really exciting is is to put something on paper that you like that would be freaking on freaking believable and a little scary and scary yeah to get to that point. It's GonNa. There's GONNA be some risk involved and there's GonNa be some a strategy and you really have to think about it. I remember those three percent or meetings that we had to Kinda correct a couple people because like you said earlier they put down goals or crazy things can happen if I were like. Wait a second you're already doing. It's like the next year like it's almost like when you write down tattoos that you WanNa do tomorrow and one of them's brush your teeth yeah. It's a a small. It's not even a drink. It's a small goal. It's not even dream so so there you go so the next question was what is the difference between between well okay with this kind of a local. She gives a little backstory and says she regularly self sabotage ourselves so she said I am trying to figure out whether I have fear of failure fear of success okay so I don't know the answer and I do think they're different. Someone who has fear of failure. Oh year typically in not always most situations you have either really critical parents errands or critical people around you and so your fear of failure is that you just want to be accepted and loved and when you messed up you didn't feel those things as a child usually sometimes fear of failure though is because you have so much success around you they you're afraid to fail because then you again you won't belong so. I think fear of failure is our desire to belong desired to have significance and we think if we fail sale that will be lesser yeah I like rejected or we won't be loved. We won't be accepted. I think that's what we're fear. Failure comes in and fear of success different. Fear of success in my estimation is someone who when they think about being successful that means a comes with more responsibility expectations demands change. Jim People are afraid of change that if they are also I think fear of success sometimes is that people think well if I'm successful of a lot of eyes John. Me and then people will know that I'm fried so can be some imposter syndrome imposture soon for sure and if I get too big I've been up too many eyeballs on me in somebody. If not many people are gonNA figure out like it's not real yeah so nope if you think about both of those things right or fear of success and fear of failure in either case you just want to be accepted and you want to be loved and appreciated you. WanNa be enough so the way you get around. Both of those is knowing that how other people feel about you has nothing to do with your worth earth. It has nothing to do with your value. You are enough. You're worthy and you are significant because you're you your child of God so get over that and I also think the only way that you can fail is by doing nothing. That's how you fail and the only person you'll fail feeling you're feeling is you're failing yourself all right next question. Shalini I really we have some big dreams and goals but I don't want to let go of the security that I feel and that security or my quote golden handcuffs are hold me back from doing my own thing okay well. I get that and I don't know if this is from a guy or Gal I can't tell from the username but security is another natural human desire like we all want to feel safe so that's normal. It's natural and I don't know your situation but when we want security it's oftentimes because we want to keep other. The people save two so my recommendation is because you mentioned golden handcuffs so I'm assuming that means. You have a well paying career. There are job or position. Maybe it's even a well paying business. You don't love and you want to go do something else. Here's my best advice. You frigging do it but don't quit that thing that provides your security. Is that what you're gonNA say hundred percent okay. What were you gonNA say Dabble. If you have some crazy like if you're you're not happy with what you're doing. I'm going to throw this out there but you're making a great income or you. Are you know you're providing for a family and it's just not in the cards but you know you're not happy but you have this like it to do something amazing or you know or different or something like that or you just have a great great idea then dabble in it trade out because you know what it might not be. It's that whole thing. The grass isn't always greener type of thing and it might be one of those things things. Were you start dabbling and you're like okay. I'm glad I didn't go this way because this would have been a disaster. If I were to quit this great thing so dabbling it see how it feels and then just go slowly because you don't always have to just jump all in to something that's so dip your toe in that's right absolutely Salihi in and you can dip your toe and realize this ain't that thing but I I at least I have the security of my job and I know this going way back but when we first I were married I was working as a paralegal and Brett was off playing football and actually at this point when we were first married to play football all right yeah true but actually when we first got married you were done playing football on uh-huh and I was working as a paralegal and I knew I decided my mind. Bala she is a Shitsu mix, and we've had her for I think a couple of months now, and she doesn't care about she doesn't she doesn't mind if it's hot outside if it's cold outside. She's an outside dog. She's Bella out. Jasmine does not want to know she will go out and do have party out there, and then she will come straight back in. And if I do try even take her out because I want to take her out get exercise, I put on a little pink coat, and it's not because the pink coat that she wants to come back inside because she's the same. If I don't put the pink Khotan. But I put the pink Khotan, and she goes walking. And then she won't she's she coaches up. She looks like a little old lady. And looks main turns around and says for the love of goodness. Can we please go home? Your husband just show me a video of her in the snow, and she couldn't decide which part not to put down. Yeah. Not want to be in a did not be and most of the time. We she was snuggled in my jacket. But I mean, you know, come on. She said, I know she's a Chihuahua and chihuahuas incredibly emotional dogs. Right. And you can absolutely see that feelings on just they wear their heart on their pool. Right. They are just they are emotional ducks. But she does she as a bit dramatic. If you are in a part of the country added is freezing cold, and you can only take your dogs out for a little bit. What do you do? Do inside the home of what can you do to enrich their lives? I have some ideas, you do 'cause you're great at this. And this is where can I dedicate this to my cousins who are in Iowa. Let's listen to this. Sue city Iowa. Okay. I'm complaining too much contact. I bet it's like minus minus minus it's so. Johny iowa. And then we have Rochester Minnesota, plus the hearts, and then my others. They're going up to I believe it's Mitchell, South Dakota. So we're talking I mean feet of snow just snow forever and stay still get out sometimes. But usually in December January they have to the dogs have to stay indoors. And they have golden retrievers, they've got doodles. I mean what what are a you can't put. I mean, there are booties that you can put on your dog and the and people do walk their dogs booties which is very important because when it is so so cold dangerously cold like that you have to protect those polls. Okay. But what can you do in places? Like this to enrich your dog ready for a crazy idea yet? Okay. Okay. I once created is too crazy. Indoor park core. Okay. Raises all about indoor part? Okay. So as a certified canine fitness trainer. Yes. That's a real thing. I love to do some fitness. And it doesn't have to be crazy doesn't have to be so regimented. But what I'm talking about? Here is if you do allow your dog on the furniture. So again, we we're not we're not turning into romper room is my dad would say, but what we can use. We can take some traits and we can lure your dog into different positions. And I know it sounds a little lame. But it can be cool can your dog just put to pas up on the couch. What about the back paws up on the couch? We go on the couch off the couch on the bed off the bed. Can they sit down stand or spin on these different surfaces? Do you have an Ottoman kind of turning your living room into a little bit of a dog park in an organized way? So we're not just saying we get Zuma's all over the place. But if you wanna go downstairs to the basement, and do this you have one specific room. This is something we can do to implement a little bit of fitness. You can ask your dog to do these things repetitively. So if you ask your dog to sit and and then. Get them into a stand or toss a treat. So they get back up from the set ten times in a row that is tiring and your dog has to work and engages their brain, it engages their muscles. And you'll be surprised how difficult that is. I see so many puppies in group classes by the NFL group class, they won't sit anymore and people think oh my gosh. We've just been working on this behavior for so long. Why won't you set? It's because the puppies tired, his little muscles are tired. So if you have a big dog, if you got a really athletic dog, you can do multiple sets and reps of these sets and downs and transitions, but that's the crazy. Okay. So what about people who say my dog's paws on my so far? I don't want them to learn how to get up on my sofa. What are you saying Ali? I I've seen that. We can we can make arrangements. But I allow my dog on the bed and on the couch. And now, he's not going to become the boss. He's not going to do all these things. He he's going to go to the show. I thought I thought the way dogs are on the bed or on the sofa. They suddenly become top dog. No that's looking for the company. Spot there. And why I say it as a fitness trainer is because we're looking for an uneven surface because it makes it more difficult. Can we do this on the flat floor? Of course, we can we probably wanna use a rug or carpet or a matter of some kind because we don't want the dog to slip on the hardwood. If we're asking him for these different positions. But it's something that we can do on the bed or if you don't want your dog up on the better on the couch. You can use some cushions or just a towel or something else to do these different positions. Say fitness, isn't your thing. Or maybe you have missed Bella Bella. I don't fitness may not be her strong, suits. She's not the most agile of help because her body so long. Looks like one of these in toy stories, you said was it usually does Linke the taxes. I think she looks like a dandy demain on sheila's. She does she she's or she could be popped Basset hound. I don't know. She is the most bizarre dock, and we always say that if you us to five year old child to draw a dog, they would Joel Bella. And then the teacher would go. Oh, that's very sweet doesn't it like adult with has very sweet because all the proportions are completely out of proportion. And that's Bella. She's got incredibly long neck, a very odd face and incredibly long back tiny stubby legs. And I love her. I love her. And she dont says I can the pit Somma. You know, and they pick up their front hooves whenever I come affront front legs. I should say whenever I come. I have I been out and I come back and she's so excited to see me. She dances, it's called the benefit dance. But because it's like one one point to another to an-. Yeah. I'm thinking more Shetland pony. Okay. Shetland pony donnas. Okay. Right. Then what Klaus then my dog? The senior house is a standard poodle who is if if that could be, you know, the three musketeers writing could be the fourth musketeer, he would he's very dandy, and he's he's such a bizarre dog and such a justed adorable. He's like he could be the most interesting boyfriend. Oh, thank you. And he's got an accent hasn't yet. He's okay. So what is it? So excited to be training today. Oh now you've done a bit. I feel like he's the Lipizzaner in the stable put sprays in his hair, and he wants some certain way and all the other Lipizzaners look at him like. Yeah. That's yeah. That's yeah. That's perfect. That's a perfect explanation because he is quite bizarre. But he's just the most seizes smart dog. And I love the relationship that you have with him is very organic relationship. Yes. You do a lot of work with a lot of training with him. But you also not in a in a future. Pocus wanna talk about this. You also apart from giving him a lot of choice. You also training him to kind of skew or let you know when he wants things, but also tell you whether he wants to do something or he doesn't tell we are going to talk about that in a future podcast because I think that's kind of wet training is going teaching is going see us training. And we do a lot of concept training. But let me tell you about this f- classes first Christmas so clauses. First christmas. We drove him. Thank you mother. And dad, I love you so much drove him to Iowa from Georgia because I didn't want to be apart from him on Christmas. Oh, and we go into the house. And there's there are what was it sixteen people golden retriever and things not to do Christmas on ought to do. But we use management. We at baby gets up and Claus really lived downstairs. Luckily, it was a nice big beautiful home Claus lived downstairs. But how did I enrich him in this place because we were up on a bluff, we got snowed in. So what did we do? Well, one thing that clauses. Really good at is hide and seek love it. You could see super simple. So let's talk about classes version. It's advanced smart dog. I'm a standard poodle version that is where I can take a ball his favorite squishy ball. Yeah. And I can hide it pretty much anywhere in a room and over time, I've kind of taught him, what's N balanced. And what's not in bounds? But I can put it pretty much anywhere in that room. And I'll tell him to go to go to his bed in a different room. I'll ask him to wait. I hide the ball. And I come back and release them and say okay seek and he gets to go find that ball, and he will search Victoria for ten minutes. He will search so Victoria. How do we teach dogs to do this? Maybe they can't do the advanced version quite yet. Yeah. We'll find something that you dog really likes. If you talk is not a twenty motivated, you could try getting a toy for example, and putting some of your favorite food in and how I stop this game is that I will place the toy in an area where the dough could really see it. So I'll make a big fuss of placing it may be behind the the challenge with something. And then I am Bogo back to my dog and say seek cacique. And if the dog kind of even doesn't get that I have to go and get that toy might go with the dog to go. Get the toy right and get really excited about the toy. But most of the time when you tell the dog to go seek they gotta go straight for that toy and then they can eat a little bit of the food out of the toy. And then I'll get the toy back. And then I might hide it somewhere a bit harder for the dog and then gradually as we pay this game every dog learns at a different pace. So it might be a couple of hours. It might be a few days. It might be a few weeks. I'll get to the point where I can hide the toy and tell the doctor go seek now you can do this inside of you can do it outside when the weather is better. But inside you don't just have to use one toll. You can maybe use to three toys, and if you want to hide your dog's dinner in them, then do that. So instead of just wasting a really good teaching opportunity. Don't just feed your dog from the bowl, right? Put your dog's food in toys and hide it around the house. Okay. Now, you're going to go hunt and seek for your meal. So I can tell you by the time your dogs. They're going to be tied. Great enrichment. Absolutely. It's a good point that you can feed your dog through that mechanism to and what I like that you said about at the end is what you're looking for is your dog to be tired. So one good way to to see whether you're in Richmond is truly enriching is does your dog take a nap afterwards because that's what we all want. Right. That's why we walk our dog. So they get enrichment they go see things that go do things, and I can tell you after playing hide and seek with Claus for thirty minutes. He sleeps just as much as if we had walked for thirty minutes. So if you doubt that this can be as enriching for as a Walker a run for your dog..

"All of my travel is marked in green and some months i'll just open it up it'll be like it's a sea of green just a beautiful genucel green lanes so much so i'm always so curious about how other people okay so you have your very color coordinate a personal call this this is my therapist but call it blew the this is travel and this is a precedent here and this is more travel and then here you can see your time locked look at this call this is a fitness trainer this is meeting with an architect this is a press thing this is a work thing this is a press thing so it it really secret of the universe will probably one color i just feel like everything would feel overwhelming but seeing the different colors helps just create some space my brain you leapfrog to another thing is good i do think i wish that these were things that we learnt when we were in school like taxes would be noone taught me about taxes school it god anything practical rectal would be great yet you know what i need yeah i need information on that transition from okay great you you're in a creative job congratulations you made a career out of it double finger guns good for you and then then there's this thing no one tells you where it's like now you're a ceo and you have to file payroll taxes for yourself like what i got out of that i got out of that racket so i could do creative stuff oh yeah no you have to deal with the franchise tax board and you're like well that's the challenge challenge of law responsibility and scaling up and you know and trying to figure out like what's important to not in trying not to forget what's important so that you can stay excited in passionate about things i know i i do it's so funny i was starting to someone recently about like what you know they were trying to figure out if they're going to do a pivot in their career and we're talking about what gives you the butterflies than most.
