"I like Denver to win this game tonight. I think the running game is going to be huge and Colfax I'm supposed to remind you a lot we are working on are are running back tracker Melvin Gordon Philip Lindsay head going to see who has the more successful season yes as we progress here. WHO Now Pat. Shurmur. New Offense Coordinator for the Broncos says they're both great. Obviously, you want them both at the same matic aries and nobody's really a starter and that's cool. Melvin Gordon's starter. Who's going to have the better game? Tonight Gorden or Lindsey who's GonNa have more rushing yards Gordon. I hope. So I have them on my fantasy. I am so torn with this conversation. Because I am a fan of Melvin Gordon I've always been a fan of him in college and then when he went to the chargers. I want him to succeed because if he succeeds the Bronco succeed. But. If he succeeds way. Way Better than Lindsey. There's no way. Lindsay is a Bronco long-term I can't see how they're going to pay in this league. They're not GONNA pay to running back again Gordon has one more year he has two years. So this your next year, can they work out a deal where they extend Lindsay's contract for like two more years again, it's going to be kind of a player option. For Philip Lindsay at the end of the season. Can they work out a deal where hey, we WANNA keep Gordon but we also want you to stay here do the one two Combo and then when Gordon leaves you, you take over I don't know in a perfect world maybe. So but speaking of a perfect world, it just be great if they both came out and Gordon throws up one hundred. Philip Lindsey throws up. Five and touchdown, and maybe a couple of catches. I'm very curious to see how this offense is really how this offense really works. Because They're going to load up with a lot of tight ends. They crazy about tight ends this year. But they also went after wide receivers in the draft, they also signed a free, their biggest free agent signings. Argument was arguably Melvin Gordon. I mean it was I suppose right? Because GLASCO was a trade. I, I'm up in the air. I don't know what this team's GonNa look like I am very concerned about the defense. This is not just because von Miller gone. and. That's another one. That's tough. I believe the Broncos three point three and a half point dogs tonight. Like Denver. To win this game I really do I don't believe in the titans. I do like the movie remember the titans but I don't believe in these Titans Derrick? Henry. They're going to give him a a coach for able has a mass the mask on and it says something that doesn't say must feed Derrick Henry, the rock or something like that. Just give him the ball. That's that's there's no secrets to it. That's that's what the titans are going to do. They want to push you around with their offensive line and Derek Henry's wants to run over run you over I mean that's what this offense is based on. So. To the broncos have strong enough guys up front. Do, they have talented enough linebackers to slow him down. They did the last time these teams played against each other. But. It's listen the titans feel like they have some unfinished business. There's still underrated. They're still under appreciated and I I don't believe in this team. I don't think there are a playoff team. I like a good running game is Ryan Tannehill the guy do they have enough weapons outside of outside of Derrick Henry? I mean, they added today be uncloudy. They've got VIC Beasley Junior. So I mean these guys in starting to later though he beasley didn't pass his physical until September fifth and then today beyond cloudy didn't join the team until the seventh. But either way? Yeah. That's GonNa make drew locks night a little bit more difficult. To find out of Cortlandt Sutton is you go tonight what does that mean for Jerry Judy Colfax? Says Judy's going to need to score ten touchdowns in order for you to win your fantasy game this weekend I'm waiting on. I think I got mine. I think I have Derrick Henry Melvin, Gordon Tonight and I'm tied right now with be read. Sorry about that bureau gotta get week one get off. You don't win the first one. I vanished text line three, one, nine, nine, six, three. Nine, nine, six. What are you got Titans Broncos broncos start this thing off with the right. The right way I think drew lock is going to be okay tonight I don't see him going nuts. I see the broncos being kind of a balanced offense tonight. and. Probably GonNa see a good running at a rushing attack. From Philip Lindsay and Melvin Gordon specifically because I like their guards I I li- Dalton Reisner is now taking on that leadership program Glasgow their pro football focus said that broncos have least at least going into the season the top five as far as Duos and the guard category. tackles are tough but. There are weak spot right now for the Broncos, but that's that's more pass protection. You know. Bulls was better as far as blocking for the runs the holding holding calls I, mean that's Those are the things that really has given. Garrett. Bowles, such terrible name. He's when he's just pushing guys around when he's run blocking, he's not as bad..

"Visiting. We'll be recapping broncos titans. And we'll be getting you set for. Game Seven Somehow someway game seven between the Denver Nuggets. The LA CLIPPERS? Live from the auto collision specialist studios joining us here on our I advantage hotline. We've got Steve Fairchild on the program Steve Fairchild, of course, you know him former CAL state coach, former offensive coordinator in the NFL. A ton of experience and continuing to train quarterbacks with through his websites or his workout side Fairchild qb training dot com coach. Always great to catch up with you man when time allows we we love to get you out of the program and just talk quarterbacks with you. Look forward to it's a very exciting with the start of college football in the NFL season and Things are things are looking good. How do you view the college football season was a little strange I mean games were two weeks ago and then he get the bulk of the Games obviously this weekend was it strange for you though knowing that many teams not playing football right now? Yeah I think The you know the NFL things a lot clearer than what's going on in college and I. Think What Games you did see you could see the. The. Lack of offseason. Spring Ball affect that game a little bit more than than it did in the NFL. You said it though with the NFL it's it's a little bit more of a clear picture. We saw we saw one game on Thursday night interesting. The chiefs look ridiculous. But a ton of great action yesterday. Let's let's look into the quarterbacks specifically Patrick Mahomes. He he's the he's one of the if not the face of the NFL right now he's got a lot more weapons even this year than last year but he didn't even look like he skipped a beat coach. No he didn't he you know he's a obviously, it's not the top one of the top quarterbacks league and. he he just started off right where he left off last season and They were very impressive. I thought the chiefs just looked like the better team he was the better quarterback and. One I thought it was interesting in in that game was how much the run game Really help those quarterbacks they both both those teams ran the ball very effectively in that obviously that that rookie lsu back, they can't city as it's going to be. A real good weapon addition to all their weapons but Y- that was I just thought mahomes the chiefs just of picked up where they left off and and clearly the better team they're not a bad way to start your career or if you're the running back for the chiefs Clyde Edwards Layer twenty-five carries one, thirty, eight yards and a touchdown. I'm watching him run and I'm thinking how did the chiefs get this guy there already loaded with weapons and now they have what who promises to be maybe maybe a top five running back this year who knows we'll see. Gabe one. So far so good. Yeah and you know he's a, he's a great example of. When you when you great running backs, you hike is not important and really top in speed is not important. You know you'd like them to be extremely fast but you know he just his quickness and inline running and his balancing the low center gravity. I mean that that's what that's what running backs look like and and I thought he just he had A. Tremendous game really help down. Yeah. No question about it. So Patrick Mahomes look tree to Shawn Watson I mean he didn't he didn't look bad either. But I'm looking at the chiefs and I'm just thinking it's going to take a near-perfect football game from from the quarterback from the defense from the offensive line to be able to contend with the chiefs this year. Yes I think so they can score so much so fast that you really don't have much of a margin for air. when you have the football against him I think Watson you know he's proving to be a good quarterback I. Think they're still. before you back the truck up in pay that type of money I still think there's things he'd like to see a little more consistently from him because at the end of the day, it's guys like mahomes that. They're going to be effective even in passing situations third down to minute type things that when everybody in the building knows they're going to throw what they're still and I think those those type of quarterback separate themselves and I think you know Watson's got approved. Doing some of those areas. Coach we're in with your experience in the NFL I mean you've been on teams with with some solid offensive weapons too when you look at the chiefs yes they're provided with so much. That's a challenge in of itself to with with the with the coaching staff for the chiefs trying to get everybody involved making sure they're utilizing their pieces. But everywhere, you look every position, I mean you're looking at a to a plus kind of guy. No no question. It's a good problem to have a lot of guys that can make place for you. But the the quarterback does a good job of you know obviously distributing the ball where it needs to go. I think the other thing with them that that Kinda gets overlooked as they're very, very solid upfront and they've got both tackle positions or. are kind of wired. Now with some, some really elite type players. So you know he he's protected for the most part as well. So yeah, they're just they're roster offenses is very, very good and they improved defensively last year. So you know obviously they're the team to beat. Yeah. No question about Lamar Jackson with the Ravens, the team that I'm looking around at the AFC I'm wandering which teams going to be able to. Put up a heck of a fight against the chiefs. The Ravens destroy the browns thirty eight six Lamar has a beautiful game twenty, four, twenty, five to seventy, five and three touchdowns. They play Houston next week at Houston then their home against Kansas City so they have some quarterback battles coming up but Lamar Jackson another one of those quarterbacks that it looks like at least against the browns picking up where he left off. You know he's Just graded that film and. I'm still very very interesting to watch that that thing go over a period of time. You know it's it's so unconventional and I say that in a good way, I mean he's just he's just different than everybody else athletically in the strengthening inability to run the football. You know they kept his they kept his run to tolls down but it's still they're using him in a violent way and he's and he's getting hit and. you know I think Roman and those guys do a great job but but it it is different in. It's just GonNa you know you're GONNA have to watch it play out and see if you can stay healthy through years. I will say this that it's a very easy formula. You know how they got beat in the playoffs and you just gotta get them behind the chains. They're so dynamic running the football bet that they stay ahead of the change and then they're heartbeat but if you can get them in passing situations than. Than I think you have a chance to do something against the Ravens and I you know and then, and then watching that too I thought Baker Mayfield same thing as last year just. struggle in the pocket when he when he had to try to get the ball down the field, he's you know he's he's got talent he he's got an anticipation but he you know just when when he's got a hang in there and make that intermediate type throughout. He struggled and they're they're gonNA. have to. They're gonNA have to find a way to get him more productive down the field with the ball. We're talking to Steve Fairchild Fairchild quarterback training. Coach when you look at Baker Mayfield What do you make of this guy so far in his rookie season I think maybe he may maybe kind of went over the top..

Finally here it's going to be. It was strange last night. It's going to be strange. You know watching these games, but I was laughing and Dan. The Dan Patrick show yesterday they took a poll and they said twenty to thirty percent of the people voting said that you know if there's not going to fans in the stands. They don't even want sports to start at all. So you'd rather zero sports then. You. See that's at all or nothing mentality that I'm so frustrated with. You know you can't have. You can't get to all if you don't start somewhere and you know we get were getting. Those guy you know goes people on our facebook page. Colfax keep commenting. No sports until the economy starts well. This is part of that. This is how you started back. This is how you start it. Yes, if we could all just say virus, go away everything back to normal. We would all take that. I think a lot of us are wanting that right most of us are, but we can't. So we're going to take it and how they adjust this thing you know. The NBA has got to do a bubble. Baseball's gotTa do no fans in the stands. Football they're not? They're not doing a preseason. NHL's some similar right as as NBA so we. Were at this point. Where if you WANNA get to all? You gotTa start having a little bit of it. You know and that's that's where we are, and that's part of that economy that you're talking about. All right that's going to do it for us. What Fun Show today? Thanks to mark Johnson, the voice of the Colorado Buffaloes Steve Fairchild the coach talk and drew lock with us, and Colfax is saying maybe trump Yuka elway. For drew lock. He at least has the path to get. It's got the path so if he fails then he's going to be breezy. Up say a plumber. It's a safe pick, and that's the whole against their most going forgettable quarterback, so it's crazy. We'll be back out on a Thursday good night northern Colorado. KF K..

"We'll do something somewhere. Honey thanks for for all you do and thanks for the I I you know I was like laughing because I thought people think like I'm joking. I'm like no. She's like she's an epidemiologist. She's testify before Congress. Infectious disease like expert. Yesterday we tested out facetime. Yeah my husband was in the room and he hear our conversation Morgan. And he's like texting all my friends right now telling them you're on facetime with Morgan Fairchild talking about diseases and infectious disease to curve ball. You don't see coming and one of my one of my big passions and every once in a while like with the AIDS crisis or things like this when suddenly people are interested the most of the time they're just like it's so boring let's talk about. Who's wearing what? Yeah Yeah you know. I remember frank rich wrote a piece a long time ago in the New York. Times CALLED ANGELS IN AMERICA. But you are one of them. It's about the people that were brave enough during that time when everyone was so terrified of aids to speak out and like you say probably lost work and friends and whatever to to stand up for your friends and for people that had aids and for gay people and so you know he was talking about that. It's people that in those dark shadows when it was hard that were brave. You know then later you know. Everybody was onboard right. I sort of felt like that was my duty back then because I was the only famous space they had that knew anything about the disease and so I felt it was my my moral duty to go out and campaign and try to get the stigma taken off of it But I knew I lost work and I'd like a few years ago now. I was doing a play in Kansas City. A few people there Had had retired from La and one of them was a casting guy and we were talking about it at dinner. And I said I knew I lost work and all that and he started crying at dinner and he said Morgan. I know you I was casting back then and we'd be in a room in say. Oh no she's too controversial with all that age and he says I'm so sorry I didn't stand up for you. I should have stood on. I'm I'm so embarrassed I didn't stand up for you. When it was decimating. Their industry I mean it really. You know I mean I just I. I've always loved you from the moment I met you. I mean I just I love I remember seeing back then you said. Hollywood has a blonde every year. I'm just this year's you've always been smart and humble and kind i. It is amazing with the level of fame. That you have that you've used superpowers for good. Thank you well. I've tried and I i. that was one of my big back in the Jira. That was one of my big things is I would take the hit and I would for other people to come out behind me and I know I remember one of my friends who was a publisher of people magazine back then called me. I think rock was still alive at that time. Called me and said Hey we WANNA do like Hollywood fights AIDS Picture. We want to do a group shot of a bunch of celebrities about AIDS. Would you do it? And I said sure say called back a couple of weeks later said thank you so much and I said for what he said everybody said no until you said yes and then everybody else to say yes without you you are Lynch Pin. And that's what I felt like my duty was back then was to take the hit to make it safe for other people to come out. And do what was right. I love you Morgan Fairchild. I'm going to continue to lie about being married to you until I die and I don't care see. She never see never issues a denial which is also part of Grayson Bravery. Totally totally not gay. "This is a lot people really trying to help each other out which has been really lovely in spite of our government So it's it's going to be a long Stephanie. This is going to be a long time When when you when you say that. What do you mean Morgan win? Without CI Yesterday said that although he got stepped over because because trump stepped on his lines you know on his answers. But it's GonNa be a long time because people haven't shut down nationwide but the thing is even when they've tried to open up now in China or in South Korea. They're seeing a return of the virus and maybe bigger wave than the original. Yeah that's what they're worried about. You know the one they're looking at is the a nine thousand nine hundred thousand fluids. Trump's hauling nineteen seventeen. I don't want to hear Jeez on them. Because they're the movie is out. Nineteen seventy okay go ahead. The nineteen eighteen flu up people sort of remembered as the nineteen eighteen flu but actually it came during the spring. It killed people. It went around the world for Times. It came back with a in the fall. And that's what they're worried about with this one. If we lift the restrictions is that in the fall and winter. It may come back again with a huge resurgence. If we start lifting restrictions the only way you wife something like this out is to just stopped the transmission. You stopped the transmission and as long as people wandering around and people are going. That's why they're saying this week. Like try not to even go to the grocery store the drugstore guess got here in L. A. They're saying inductive burkes is saying don't for the next. This is a critical week or two. Don't go anywhere if you can help it. Don't go to the supermarket or the You Know Garcetti Year is you know saying you. You can be review service if you don't have a mask on so yeah. I mean this is super series. I'm worried about you specifically based on your appearance on worst cooks in America that you may kill yourself with your cooking in quarantine before corona virus can get you. Are you literally one of the worst cooks in America honey? I can't cook anything but I grew up in the theater. You know I started when I was ten hours in rehearsals and so we always stayed out and then I was married to a guy in rock and roll. Who would never come home? We would always do take out and and my current boyfriend you know. I try to cook and make vegetables and stuff and you know he. He wouldn't eat vegetables and like at ten o'clock at night. I'll find him was a bag of doritos but You Know Tyler. Florence was kind. He knows I don't Cook. Who was on? Worst Cook suit. Asked me a recipe for roasted chicken? And you know and I said China has a town. You know. I don't know how to do this. What do you do with the chicken? I do you clean it out. You have to do anything to it if I have the chicken and I don't have any of these ingredients here and I don't want to go to the grocery store they'll get these keys. I once made a Thanksgiving Turkey when they say trust the Turkey. I didn't know what that meant. But it's you know it's a bondage thing it's a your title legs together and I didn't have string 'cause I don't cook and so I use mint dental floss so the Turkey was minty fresh that year. But Yeah I'm you so what? What are your actor friends doing in quarantine? Are you back to like acting out skits in your basement like you did when you wanted to be actors? Are you reenacting scenes from Dallas and Flamingo Road and Falcon Crest? And I don't know whatever you know I've been doing zoom With some of my friends and stop and it's it's kind of fun we don't do acting stuff we just you know what's going on with the kids. How's it going? How's that home schooling? You know now. Is it like an Aaron spelling production? Is that everyone that was in an Aaron Spelling Production Zoom? Because that would that would we could make cash money to donate stuff for Corona virus people. Let's do the. Let's get on this. No no no but it is. It is fun and it's a nice way to catch up with people. I did zoom with some of my high school friends Last week and that was really nice seeing where everybody was pushed scattered across the country and then Zoom with some of my actor friends here and everything but you know to be quite honest. I spent a lot of time reading about this stuff and just because I tweet a lot about it because I'm trying to help trying to be a place where people can go to find legitimate information so I tweet things that are That I update all the time and tweet off about it and I don't do that much on instagram with it mostly. I do the flower pictures on Instagram. To mechanical hat at But there's just so much misinformation out and especially because our government has not been acting in good faith that there's a lot of misinformation and the networks carry act of dangerous misinformation. The presence spews every day. I mean it's that's why they have a duty to either fact. Check him in real time or don't broadcast it. It's killing people literally. Well yes literally. And that's why I try to do the articles a lot so I spent a instead of acting out things in my basement. I tend to spend a lot of time just reading every day. And you know this is. I have these odd hobbies. You know counterterrorism these obviously. I'm always reading up on all these different things and I think that's one of the most important things I can do right now. I try to do the INSTAGRAM. With the flowers to make people happy and then I try to do the twitter feed with a lot of articles about what's going on what's going on behind the scenes decisions being made. What research is coming forward You know it's turned out that more men seem to be susceptible to it than women. They don't know why But more men seem to be dying of it other than women at an African American people. That's come out in the last few days and they didn't realize it at first because the government's isn't really a recording race whereas some of the cities and counties are actually recording race. And so they're seeing that that's a very high percentage not necessarily because more susceptible to that they may have a had worse healthcare over their life and high incidence of of diabetes hypertension of art underlying conditions. Will you know this is why I love this? You've always I love Morgan. Who shared some of her beauty? Secrets by authoring. The book Super Looks I I think the first hip would be born Morgan Fairchild Second. It's too bad about your home state of Texas. Because as we've discussed there's something in the water there that makes really pretty girls. Every right you Sandra bullock fair faucet who else everybody everybody be most beautiful in Hollywood. There's some talk from there to you. Know all right not paying attention but you're super it's complete guy that includes makeup exercise diet tips. But isn't that the other part that's been my thing is like I. You know we're all trying to the best we can. We're super healthy here. And just you know eating exercise all that I do hope that as a nation we sort of look at that because we are ripe for something like this because we already as you say so many of us have underlying have terrible diets and underlying conditions and it is an our healthcare system. Obviously a kind of a disaster. You add a pandemic and we're like sitting ducks and then you add a horrible leadership that doesn't believe in science. I mean it really is a disaster movie. It's every disaster movie where they don't listen to the scientists right. The government doesn't listen to the scientists. The movie where all the scientists are warning you about the asteroid. They're like Oh don't be ridiculous. Yeah Yeah no. It is important right. I mean you. Obviously you know it's been your business or you take care of yourself but I mean I do hope that I just keep urging my listeners. Please take care of yourself. Take care of the ones. You Love. Eat better exercise. Keep your try to keep your immunity up as best you can right. That's one thing I worry about. Just what watching on twitter and stuff is how people seem to be Eating a lot of comfort food. I see a lot of postings a lot of comfort food and you know which is high fat and maybe not taking good care of themselves as they should So that's That's why try to get go for a walk every day. I've you know where my mask. I wear my sunglasses and go out for about twenty minutes a day. And just take pictures. But it's administrative neighborhood. Where it's not very congested. And you know if anybody season you better thirty feet away. They crossed to the other side of the road. Yeah yeah it doesn't matter what you wear. Everyone's still knows your Morgan Fairchild. Okay no they. Don't I think scare them for people that don't know so I because here's your resume obviously played Gina Wade on Dallas before taking the lead role in Flamingo road paper dolls one of my favorites Falcon Crest of course Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding guest actress on Murphy Brown. But you did everything. Roseanne civil friends. Can I tell you my favorite still? Your first acting job was as a double for Faye dunaway during the filming of Baal Bonnie and cried particularly in scenes were Bonnie supposed to drive because Faye dunaway cannot drive a stick shift. That is my favorite fun fact about you. I don't know a fake and drive a stick shift they you know. That's why they brought you in. Oh I I just I. They usually do that on movies. When it's far enough away that you can't see it's the star. They used somebody else. I was the second kid that they hired to do that. But it was one of those things I was. I was doing Because I grew up doing theater and so I was getting ready to open. A funny thing happened on the way to the forum and this fellow who owned a Lotta the sound stages around town that we commercials and stuff on called me episodes walking out the door and said You know hey you WanNa be in a movie. I said Oh sure you know what he said okay. We'll be at the North Park in tomorrow at five. Am She five? Alright any and as we're getting off the phone says can you drive stick shift and so of course being an actor? I lied and said Yeah sure unit so then I got to the theater and I said to all the hate it intermission. You GotTa take me up back to drive stick. Shift it might. My suspicion is probably could. Nancy Rommelmann Digs Into the #Meneither Controversy

"Nancy. Hey I'm so glad to be here with you. Thanks for joining us well yet. Maybe we should start with your ear passes food writer. Tell me about that Schumer. So when I first started working as a journalist it was in nineteen ninety four And I had a knife column in in Los Angeles where I lived at the time and But you know and I was also reading with really super long on features I interviewed cereal. Kalaniiki see and just like really chunky sort of more difficult stuff but you have to bring money right and I thought well what do I like and I was like. Well let food in writing so maybe it dabble in that and get a call one day from this woman that says hey this is Barbara Fairchild from petit and I've been reading your work and I'd like to if you'd like to go skiing for us. In in Sun Valley it was literally those like who is moments call but she had read my narrative. Work look into start. I had a good voice and I wound up writing for not on and off. Mostly travel pieces. They send me to these places for about ten years I did some food writing in La when Jonathan Gold Gourmet for awhile took his column over at the L. A.. Week later it was just something I always kind of did but the reason I n WanNa keep moved up to Portland. I wrote for I wrote restaurant reviews for a week and I had a column in the monthly. But the problem for me is that I never primarily considered myself a food writer. I was doing like really long features and articles and profiles including stops that really I really was invested in but I kept getting known as a food writer. I actually just at some point said I'm not doing it anymore because my my first love was writing different kinds of journalism so I kinda ditched. Yeah well I mean your work as hard hitting and you tackle really really difficult subjects things that tend to fascinate me. I have to just keep following the thread so so so What what have you worked on recently listeners? To check out well I Have I've been waiting for reason magazine And and sort of having to do with with sometimes with free speech or wait now where people are not interested interested in other people having free speech. I've written several articles Roy them having to do with Berlin stuff that happened for instance the city council Banning hate groups but not naming who they were and then the big sort of big got a thing down by the waterfront between the problems and Tika everybody screaming free meet each other. You know we live in a very a very polarized environment right now. We're nobody wants anybody else to be allowed to say anything and that's been sort of fascinating waiting for me. And what a journalist to cover and you've really experienced this personally. In a way that intersects with the food industry Yeah and exercising sizing your free speech Maybe we can talk a little bit about. It was just about a year ago that you launched your video blog right. It actually trait about last December and other journalists nine nine New York. We kept having these really long email threads about stuff. We saw going on in the culture that we thought needed to be aired out One incident was Gento Zinat talion actress. She was Anthony Dance girlfriend. She'd been sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein. Then onto have like a ten year relationship with him on and off she really had become sort of the face of the metoo movement one of the phases of metoo movement. I written about her already. I'd foot night interviewed reviewed her years ago and then After her boyfriend Anthony Bourdain killed himself. it turned out that she'd had sex. The seventeen year olds and Dana had been paying off the seventeen year old and then she denied it and she sort of got caught in a a bad situation that maybe should fessed up to But she didn't initially and my friend. I were questioning whether she was really the best face of the me too. It's like you Wanna be able to have this incredible momentum be able to fly straight and we just didn't think she she was and so we talked about it on air. We talked about some other stuff. My friend had written about some of the heads of the women's March who were deeply anti Semitic and that it was problematic so we talked about things that I didn't think that they were particularly controversial. I thought that they were pretty sensible. And pretty data-based but we live in an environment right. Now we're if you are not sorta according to some people if you're not on that party line like you can only believe this way and if you're not forest against us and Some people in Portland decided that my views were very dangerous. And in order to make their beliefs known went to the press about it and decided the way to to state their displeasure was to a boycott and and really slide. My husband's business restarted roster and It was pretty effective in terms of Really getting the entire city who for fifteen years really loved her husband's business like never problem. family owns. I never. That was something mistake they thought and I thought that was really just wish people would come to talk to me. Because that's what I do. I host shows I interview people all and if People WanNa have a conversation with me I opened that door and we have a lot of writing bad people go online and they can website and see wherever about it but happily we all move on and we go onto the next interesting phases of life and work with more information than we had because when these kinds of things happen can you really try to sit and think all right. So what was this really about. What is really what is really animating people And how do we you better conversations. That's what I'm super committed to always work and and now probably never. Yeah and I just. It's kind of stunning. Yeah I mean your husband. Didn't Johnson is an artisanal coffee roaster and he really just cares about high quality coffee and he had to close one of his locations He lost asked loses biggest customer. Will we have a location at Nikolai. That was the lease was up in a month and the temperature was just so hot and so not that we just want like. Let's just close this early early. Yeah wholesale definitely definitely did flee but one of the reasons was because I mean I know this only because Blah Blah but you know the people that were angry. They called all his customers. And said you know you will drop or Streto or else and that was the problem. People believe me I can understand not wanting to be in the middle of the stuff. It's not fun. It takes a lot of time very stressful but it was. You know super unpleasant situation nation having said that did is doing well. And I'm to lots and lots of projects and you. You know these things happen in your life changes but in many ways it's changed for the better so there you go. Yeah but you know what strikes me as interesting is as if it were another if you had this video blog and your husband had a different sort of business like an accounting firm or an insurance agency. I don't know that this would have happened. I I feel like right now. Food and beverage are so much in the in the public eye that played a role. Well it's visible okay. Like if if my husband had been an accountant it's like frankly. His appliance would have been like whatever they would. They're not the demographic that's going to get super woke up about this kind of stuff right right. So you've got who goes to coffee shops you know young people and then we'd have reading series and we'd always had it had been a very sort of friendly and social environment. So you know they're going to try to hit you. Were you hurt. I mean if they come around like wow. Nancy is a terrible frisbee player. Like I don't mm cure but they make sure that you know it's going to affect you and it's going to be public because that's we're sort of I guess The satisfaction what really does make me SAM on. I've talked about this a lot before the idea that people will take pleasure in uh other people's suffering I mean seriously catherine I just cry. It's like that's this. This way is really lies madness. You know if you just think the way to forward in the world is to make sure were that people. You don't like suffer publicly. This is a this. Is Everybody's what he's doing this on the left and the right right now. I watched the impeachment hearings today. It's not a good way to live and I don't think it's a good way to live for the people who are proponents of it either. It's just it's unhappy

The Mystery of the iPhone 6

"Today the mystery of the iphone six but first we need to go back to nineteen o four and the creation of the vacuum tube before the invention of the Internet. We needed computers. And before we had personal computers we needed integrated circuits and before we add integrated circuits. We had vacuum tubes. You get the idea. Vacuum tubes were the electronic electronic circuitry component required to make telephones radio television and work in the nineteen hundreds to put the limitations of the vacuum tube into perspective. I'll describe an early computer. Consider it filled a twenty by forty foot room. Wade's thirty tonnes and used more than eighteen. Thousand Vacuum Tube so as only fifty percent operational because most of the the time. The technicians were replacing burned out tubes. These tubes auden heated up the room to a hundred twenty degrees now. And William William Shockley the so-called father the transistor that transfers through switch that Apple Faisal flow of electronic signals to create ones and Zeros technology. College over time shrank it down to the size of a virus. But how small is that. Here comes the iphone six. For example sample. It uses the a eight chip which is made up of two billion two billion transistors. There's transistors are now created at the ten nanometer level to put this into perspective considered that a sheet of paper is one hundred thousand nanometers thick so in order to create a ten nanometer sheet of paper one would have to slice a single sheet of paper. Ten Thousand Times thinner to reach that ten nanometer level. You can now you see the growth in vacuum to two nanometer transistor now back to William Shockley. When Shockley semiconductor began operations. Everything thing appeared to be going according to plan shortly after opening shop and recruiting the best and brightest engineers across the country Shockley and his former former Bell lab colleagues Walter Bryan and John Barr Dean. Were notified they all had won the Nobel Prize in physics after after the Nobel Prize celebrations. Everything went downhill quickly. Shockley was known as a brilliant engineer but a horrific manager. He put his employees through a battery of test including psychological tests. Intelligent tests even lie detector tests. Shockley also posted employee salaries publicly publicly and recorded phone calls. He was paranoid individual who believed his workers. Were stealing trade secrets and sabotaging projects. So therefore he wouldn't share findings with his research staff at an insult injury. Shockley was a racist who believe blacks were genetically inferior was subpar implore IQ. So they shouldn't have kids in one thousand nine hundred fifty seven. The aircraft Shockley semiconductor lab started up. The division reached thirty employees. Eight eight of the employees Sheldon Roberts. Eugene Kleiner Victor Greenwich Chair last Julius Blank. Cheen Hornet Robert. Noyce and Gordon Moore. Finally said enough is enough and decided to mutiny. Was the best operation for them. You could say the rest is history. They went on to form Fairchild

"Here is that there was with very different food or there was a lack of kind of the kinds of foods they were used to seeing in so whether or not you agree with that that we needed to import this variety of foods that was kind of the feeling and apparently david fairchild is a is largely responsible for that amine north america wasn't a complete food desert obviously because native peoples lived here but they may be and have the variety that we absolutely now have that's exactly it so there was a lot of corn potatoes tomatoes and a lot of wheat but beyond that there wasn't much growing here uh more than one hundred years ago and it's a question of food but it's more a function of the economy right so you have two young country and to grow it you really need to boost all of its industries the biggest industry in america was farming more than half of the labor force was farmers so fairchild had this economic mission to go around the world and get new crops not just for new things to eat but also to give farmers the ability to diversify their fields and start growing novel things uh that didn't exist here before and create rival industries that is absolutely fascinating daniel stone is join amis writer with national geographic his brand new book is out today the food explorer the true adventures of the globetrotting botanist he transformed what america eat now did i mean you know when you doing all the research in your in your writing this this fantastic book you had to have had like certain little favorite things when you're when you're reading about david fairchild or when you were learning and researching excuse me about david fairchild right i mean is there something that you were lists like i absolutely had no idea because i i was under the impression for example you know you talk about grapes worth their varieties of grapes that lived in north america and he just brought like new ones or was there something that just blew your mind when you were researching this well great are not from north america grapes are for like the caucuses like around georgia russia ukraine yeah and some of them existed here in north america.

"The david fairchild was a young boy on who grew up in kansas who wanted to travel and loved plants and he found his way to become a government agent a spy for the us department of agriculture at the turn of the 20th century about one hundred years ago and traveled all over the world on assignment for the government government to find exotic crops that didn't exist here before and bring them back in hopes that they would boost the economy which was mostly made up of farmers in those days so he did some more than he anticipated what are the first couple of things he brought an and what were the the effects of that one of his first uh is first acquisitions were uh lemons corsican uh citron in corsica it right in the mediterranean and farmers were growing lemons in california in those days they were really antiquated stock they were really bad lemons and the government said hey we could boost this industry alive if we get better lemons uh he did the same thing with main goes he brought back more than fifty varieties of mangoes that could be grown in california and in florida uh and eventually in hawaii uh he loves tropical fruit and he eventually expanded to beyond fruit and brought back the cherry blossom trees that now we have uh here in washington dc you know it's holly mentioned during the edge production these days the where terim from the farther away the better people will try anything was his initial bow chief welcomed the same way in turn of the 20th century america by farmers a little bit now there were two phases he had to bring these things back and get farmers to grow them and once farmers grew them he had to get people just regular people who ate to try new things so the farmers were reluctant to grow and new crop because it was very risky but yeah there was an appetite for new foods new excitement exotic things from around the world that no one had ever tasted before i mean a banana which is the most consumed fruit in the us hadn't really been anywhere in america until 1870s six and.
