"Crimes against persons remain at 0% change compared to last year. But when you're going to look into the details, murder, 40% of kidnapping 4% of aggravated salts up 18% intimidation of 5% statutory rape. Is up 20 of 9%. So those those numbers when you talk about in percentage is any any increases bad? Yeah, you know. Well, and you have a city. You have a city that has an outstanding police department. And I know I have friends that are on the department and they're very dedicated to it. But you should. You should be going the opposite direction and not having increased on the situation. I think you could tie this specifically to the shortage of police officers We have when you have more cops in uniform and squad cars on the streets. It has a tendency to, you know, shoot crime away. Just the president of cops. Yeah, thank you. Allow your crimes against property actually saw a little bit of an increased robberies up. 7%. Arson is up. 38% extortion up 142% burglary up 11% auto theft up 31%. It's pretty amazing. It really is And I I do appreciate what the point that Governor Patrick is making. I really do. I I think he has our best interests at heart. And this is serious, serious, serious stuff. He's talking about show. Maybe maybe it was a bit of an overstatement. But at the same time I still do appreciate because I know what the goal is. Well, sometimes you have to over exaggerating, hype it up a little bit just to get attention. That's right, because the mayor on one side he's talking about how this is still a C The mayor has the attitude of your safe enough. Yeah, Shut up. You're safe enough. So shut up, right? That's that's the idea. He has shut up and let me get back to overtaxing. I just don't see how this anti police this defunding of police and let's be very clear. Governor Greg Qasar, say governor governor Drugs Mayor Greg Cassard love to disband the police Department would He would. I have been talking about it for years, and I think you just tell us all to behave. You know, no police, and just everybody behave and let's just love each other. Just do there. Okay? All right. We'll do that. Like you is a very, very dangerous man. This is a very, very dangerous city council. It's a dangerous mayor. It is it. It's it's surreal. And and I think a lot of people that voted these people in probably also are thinking. What the hell did I do? There's got to be a little bit of that. Some people are starting to think that way as well. Do you think Here's the thing. All of these incumbents that are up for reelection if they all win, and if prop a passes Austin, Texas deserves what it gets. I was sure does it sure as hell does. That's absolutely because we have enough people in this town to Ah to vote all this away. And if it does not happen, there's not much you can say about it. Yeah, there's no man. Apparently, I saw a report late last night. That about more than 40% of the registered voters in Austin, Texas, have already voted. Yeah. That's pretty tremendous really is I've never seen anything like this. No on. I really don't have any idea where property is going to go. I do not. I will be. I will not be surprised if this does not pass. I will not be surprised if it does. Yeah, either. Either way, I'm not going to be surprised at all. It should not because this This will change the future Boston it will change the population of Boston. It'll be a disaster. It'll be so Wall Street continues to take a little bit of a hit over the past few days, you and according to some stories, I'm seeing they They kind of think it's because of the uptick in Corona virus cases. I think it's something deeper than that. I think they're concerned about this election. They're not sure who's gonna be the next president. It's Ah, It's very feels like a very unstable time. Right now we know street continued a nosedive. It started Monday is all three major US. Indices fell off a cliff during Wednesday's opening bell and amid further increasing concerns about this virus. The Dow has lost 1800 points since the week began, including 943 points yesterday. Well, and I mean, it kind of makes sense doesn't mean we're gonna unstable election going. We we literally at this moment, I have no idea what the future of America looks like. And it just kind of makes sense to have that kind of uncertainty right now. We really because it appears it is going to be a very tight race. I personally don't think it's going to be, but it appears that it does. Hand and then you know, Of course, there's still lack of a passing of AA number. Another stimulus bill and all that, right there. Many reasons further doubt. Yeah, listen, there's one thing I am certain off. If you have a flex steel counter.

"What kind of despicable person would do something like that? But, you know, unfortunately, it goes to show that to some extent you are at the mercy of the people you do business with and that the less information you can put out there in digital form, the better. But as we get more and more connected, and more more devices have plugged, and that gets harder and harder to do. And it also shows that again even though you think you might not have information Someone would be willing to steal. There's all kinds of different ways. They could use this information. It may not be just to perpetrate identity theft on you or someone else in your organization. It may be to potentially hold you or your customers whose data they stole hostage. Imagine the black eye for you is a company the reputation damage for you as a company. If your customers data was stolen, especially if it was something extremely sensitive like this. They could point the finger at you as the source of that, and your customers are basically being docked and extorted. It's probably a extinction level events for your business. Well, I mean, target Target went through that too, To an extent, did they not? Yeah. In that case, unfortunate event that had a tree A C contractor come in. And the bad guys minutes to get into their network through the contract, But I think what we're seeing both through Grant somewhere that is encrypting people's data and holding it for ransom. Or just folks who will use this extortion angle. Extortion is becoming increasingly common because If you have a good backup of your data. There's a good likelihood you can recover from ransom. Where you just restore, you know, you get rid of the ransom. Where you restore the data that you bought them and you're good to go. Maybe lose a couple hours at least a couple days. But you can often recover. If you have a good backup. That's one of the best defenses against handsome. But you can't recover from the extortion angle where they say not only Are you going to pay us this ransom? Because we've encrypted your data. But if you don't pay, we're going to release this data on the Internet. So this whole extortion, sly stocking angle it sadly becoming increasingly common and again, incredibly despicable. Mark Jackson is the reason why Mark Jackson isn’t an NBA head coach
"Joe. Lake. Up after mark was let go had a bunch of quotes This was one of them that I found co part of it was that he couldn't get along with anybody else in the organization and look you did a great job. I'll always compliment him mini respects but you. Can't have two hundred people in the organization, not like you. Okay. and he said when I say the organizations whole I don't just mean the team just fifteen players that are involved in the coaching staff I mean everybody there's two hundred employees here. So we look at the organization going forward and the kind of coach we want and not just the performance everything else all these factors matter. We took all of that into account. So we have the player part of it. We have the owner part of it. We knew the front office didn't like him when one of the assistance. was busted for recording Jackson in meetings to play for the front office, which again that actually becomes a pro mark Jackson part of it. The Mark Jackson staff was not good enough the ownership in front office told him repeatedly, the staff is good. Enough Mark said we have the best staff going he and scalping apparently got into it and scalloping he was reassigned the front office didn't like that part of it. So we have the players have the staff we have the ownership we have the front office. Let's also talk about some of the other stuff that's just let's face it. Weird Jackson's Amana Faith I. Don't question anyone's faith. I just say to you leave me alone and I'll do my thing That's the way I've always operated and that rubs people wrong way when he was a head coach but also would find time to get to La whenever he had a convenient off day to go and do that. It's tough to tell a man of faith. Hey, you know what don't be that interested in God? That's that's an almost impossible conversation but if I was at ESPN or anywhere and said, Hey, you know what? I can't watch football this weekend. Because I have this higher calling eventually it worked they'd be like, Hey, you know what? Man Like this is all part of the job being availalbe around is very difficult in tough thing to navigate as I'm not even hundred percent comfortable doing it but I'd have to say employer at the time being frustrated by it actually makes a little bit of sense and I think there's other things that just bumped people out when curry had his ankle issues he was brought up in it was kind of a playful thing curry's brought up they put the holy oil on his ankle and. Jackson's wife at the time and Pete Jackson was like look like he had chronic ankle problems and now he doesn't. So you figure it out. That's one of those things where people like wait what Jackson also had some issues off the core where he was caught up extortion deal and I'm not even really getting on his case for that because I think a lot of things happen to people that are public figures that goes on normal people's lives. But the public figure becomes the of jokes on and on and on. He also said when asked about Jason Collins availability years ago. He said not in my locker room. So it came off as if he was a homophobe because there's evidence that he is, and then when he was asked to clear that up, he said look I know Jas I know his family and I'm praying for them right now. Hey, man you save your fucking prayers. Okay. That's the kind of stuff that just doesn't play no matter who you are and I think the. Most important part of all of this because I guess I'm still maybe a little surprised that he doesn't have a job because other people have been on TV and not been great on. TV. I've looked at other coaches that haven't had great runs and there's been plenty of people that have gotten second chances by the way both black and white. So when I see people out raged that he's been blackballed or as. Shannon Sharpe said White Bald or Kendrick Perkins recently, just saying like all of these things that I just going off on the idea that Mark Jackson doesn't have job it really feels like, okay. Are you informed and but yet you've made up your mind decided not to change your mind or are you uninformed and I think so many people screaming about this or like Oh wait that's right. You know maybe either moments you had just now listening to this like Oh, that's right. I've nothing personal against Mark Jackson. He's one of my favorite college basketball players of all time all-time. You guys know how huge of a Saint John's Fan I am and I actually was you know as a little kid be like dude I can't believe he's going this late in the draft is GonNa be awesome and he was awesome in the knicks I felt so vindicated I was. Like and I could refer team right one day I love Mark Jackson and I was right. But when I listened to him on the broadcast Van Gundy I, think him being on the broadcast Van Gundy chances of getting a job because if I was worth a half a billion dollars or more and had the opportunity to own a team or owned a team right now and I'd go. Van Gundy's on all of these little things like, Hey, look at how they blind me Anthony Davis on free throws already have them on the other side of the court. So he can seal for Deepak smaller offender will there be an adjustment. Hey, what's going on with the substitution? Hey, this rule's actually wrong. Why are they doing it? This Way Jeff Van Gundy will say, here's Hey Jason tatum something's wrong with him. He's the first pointed out it happens multiple times every single broadcast Jeff Van Gundy is easily the best NBA analyst in the game right now. Mark doesn't do any of those things and I. Don't know if that's just him not being comfortable in that role but he's a coach. He's a former player and he doesn't do any of those things. He'll say, Hey, this guy's not just a great score. He's a great individual. He's a human being. Okay. So and so doesn't get enough credit for shooting. Okay. In everything is results based. If the shot goes in, it was a great shot at the shot doesn't go in Hey, that's the guy that shouldn't be taking the shot. It's very. It's very minimal depth and when. You have people that make these decisions. You're almost instead of looking at the resume in Golden State which is on its surface again resume. You'd say Yeah. What like six years? Nicholas gives Scott his shot young team garnered play defense that's hard to do. But I think being next to Jeff. When Jeff runs circles around him on the broadcast. It it might remind go wait why why is this one guy way better talking about the game than the other guy so I think the best thing market do would not be on the broadcast with Jeff and who knows what might happen. So I just think the more we look at it and hey man trust me this is not white guy decide to push back on racism segment because I've. Probably done with those the rest of my life. I'm seeing specific to this one because the NCAA numbers are atrocious. The ABC's the head coaching. Diversity that we have in the pro sports leagues still is not what it needs to be I'm not pushing back on any of those things. But when it comes specific to mark Jackson, there are the informed in the uninformed, and hopefully if you've resisted this, you're more informed now.

Recent email threats to US voters appear to be an Iranian operation
"The US director of National Intelligence yesterday said that the threatening emails received by voters in several states where the work of Iranian threat actors. See The A. P. for a general account. Both know before and proof point have published discussions of the emails, the text much like that found in extortion fishing except that in this case, the threat conveyed was that the attackers new voters were where they lived and would visit them with violence if they did not vote for president trump's reelection. We asked no before when they sent us their analysis if this didn't amount to fishing without fishhooks. Nor before his response. Quote as for cyber wires question there correct at first glance, this does appear to be efficient email as it resembles classic extortion emails that are now very common. That said, there are no malicious links attachments and no demands for money. The mail mainly demands votes and changes voter registration in quote. The sender's claimed to represent the proud boys a white supremacist fringe group, but that claim was quickly disavowed and debunked. The threat, the emails conveyed is also no more credible than the threats conveyed by their extortion models. The intent appears to have been disruptive. Whatever Taran takes its interest to be as defense one notes the reelection of president trump is unlikely in the extreme to figure among them. Proof Point said in response to a question we sent them that they had no direct insight into the party affiliations of the people who received the emails. The males themselves accused the recipients of being known Democrats but that of course doesn't mean that they were or are. In various news outlets have said that people registered as Republicans or independence or libertarians, or bread, and roses members or prohibitionist, or whatever may well also have received emails, Republicans and Independents anyways. We're just speculating about the others. All this suggests poor aim in what amounts in terms of tactics techniques procedures to a direct marketing campaign. The Washington Post quotes the foreign policy research institutes, Clint Watts whose twitter feed has an instructive discussion of why on grounds of share argument to best explanation the operation looks like one of Iran's it's ill-timed for one thing and runs against the interests of the trump campaign whatever the text of the email might say. The Wall Street Journal reports that the Director of National Intelligence said that not only Iran but Russia to had obtained voter registration data. Such. Data are in most US jurisdictions matters of public record freely available and authorities expect to see more use of such information in the final weeks before the election. So of course, the claiming the emails that the attackers had penetrated election systems is who we Know, before added in their reply to our questions quote moreover, it's worth pointing out that the entire threat in this email turns on the claim to have penetrated election systems giving whoever is behind these e mails, the ability to monitor users election behavior. That's just not a credible claim as it is simply not believable that a group that had managed to penetrate election systems would be advertising the fact in such a public manner for several weeks before the election. We would expect any group that penetrated those systems to be sophisticated enough to hold their tons and bide their time waiting for the opportunity to do real damage come election day and quote. The Washington Post characterizes the threat as long expected quote targeting voter confidence rather than ballots and run on the cheap probably with publicly available data and quote. From End Sars to End Swat, Nigeria protests explained
"It's been more than a week of protests against police brutality in Nigeria tens of thousands of Nigerians have taken to the streets where police officers have opened fire on demonstrators and arrested hundreds at least ten protesters have been killed so far. Protesters have been calling for police reform and specifically the end of a unit that has been accused of human rights abuses. The unit is called the specialize anti robbery squad. Or SARS over the weekend the President of Nigeria said the unit would be disbanded but demonstrators remain skeptical and are continuing to protest until all of their demands are met joining us now is the BBC's Nigeria correspondent, my any Jones from Lagos. Welcome to the show Miami High Tanzania. So we said that people are protesting this unit but what was was there something that set off the protests to begin with? So the process initially started on early in October when a visual appearance to should meet the appearing to show some young men being dragged by a sales offices out of a hotel. It's unclear when the video was taken, but it was shared very widely on social media in Nigeria and started a resurgence in a Hashtag the had been seen in the poss which was. The HASHTAG and saws. This hashtag first appeared thinking twenty eighteen and had been used a couple of times before when similar videos had been posted showing solves officers allegedly brutalizing members of the public but this time round it picked up a lot of speed and this movement. This youth led movement that seems quite organic has emerged from it what types of policing tactics Are. Residents are Nigerians protesting and who are SARS targeting generally. So, Nigerians have been protesting everything from extortion to torture to extrajudicial killings. I'd be see that's Members of Saul's particularly allowed to act with impunity. on targets often young members of the public who? hops occurring mobile phones laptop they accused him of Internet's cameras The also occasionally target people driving nice calls and particularly they young female asking them how they made their money and they say that these practices are completely unacceptable and that they're taking advantage of their position as plain clothes, policemen to extort people for money. And and carry tile carry a brutal acts of violence against members of the public. Now, we mentioned that the president of Nigeria has since said that he would disband this unit but protesters are still wanting demands to be met. What specific demands are they asking for Miami Su they have a number of demands had a half five key demands they want all protesters to be released. Divest full justice for victims of police brutality who've been killed and compensation for their family they want an independent body to overseen investigation into police misconduct They've also asked for a psychological evaluation and training of members of SAWS, and they want to increase salaries for policemen across the board. Protesters have been killed by law enforcement ten people we understand so far has there been any accountability or. Justice for those people. So that's one of the key reasons why protesters is still out on the street despite the dissolution of sauce for them the dissolution does not constitute any actual justice for victims and they said the fact that people have been killed these protests at no officer has been charged investigations being launched. Nothing appears to have been done to that the forties and not committed to reforming police in any. Substantive Way and they said, they'll keep coming out onto the streets until they see some actual chain beyond just rhetorical the government beyond promises of reforms that they say they've seen before they want to see officers charged they want to see changes puts into law and wants to be assured that police officers in Nigeria would no longer be allowed to act with impunity. Let's talk a little bit about who these protesters are. Are they largely young people? Are they women? Are they men? Who are we seeing? That's taking to the streets that's what's been very interesting about this latest wave of protests. It's just the shit -versity of people who've gotten involved. You have members of the Nigerian DASS per sending money from abroad from the U S from. From the UK, you have young middle class people who live in Nigeria who educated abroad who are lending their skills be it's legal skills medical skills kills in logistics and organizing, and then you have you know ordinary Nigerians perhaps who've lived here their whole lives who are often targeted by the police because they seem as as powerless with not. So well connected all these diverse groups are coming. To a these protests because they say that the violence committed by south under underway to police because this is also a protest about abuses of police in Nigeria a whole affect everyone.
Crime Boss, James Whitey Bulger
"In the kitchen of seven ninety, nine east. Third Street in Boston Fifty Five Year Old Boston crime boss Whitey Bolger said across from John mcintire he felt nothing but hatred. He knew that McIntyre agreed to talk to the DA and there was nothing that Whitey loathed more than a rat. A cool breeze rattled the window on that day in November nineteen eighty-four McIntyre was handcuffed and chained to a chair. Whitey set his MAC ten machine pistol on the table and told him that they needed to talk. Knew, he was doomed. There was a reason why Whitey had become the kingpin of South Boston. Lording over the neighborhoods loansharking bookmaking truck hijacking and extortion rackets, and it wasn't by showing mercy. He knew that even if he was somehow able to talk his way out of the situation that was nowhere to run. By the end of his career Whitey sanctioned hits as far away as Oklahoma McIntyre. Himself had even been involved in weapons smuggling scheme into Ireland full Whitey. No less. His boss was an international criminal. The great irony of course was Whitey got away with all of his criminal enterprises because he himself was an FBI informant. Whitey had grown up in the projects with an FBI agent named John Connolly. To him. Whitey was more than just a valuable pawn in their war against the Italian mafia, and for Bolger, Connolly became his `get-out-of-jail-free card and it was connelly who gave him the tip that one of his guys McIntyre was talking of course only those in White T.'s inner circle new of his deal between Bolger and connolly besides who would suspect Whitey of talking he was the gentleman gangster who bought Turkeys for poor South Boston families on Thanksgiving, the man who was a fitness. Nut He didn't drink or smoke the same Whitey who for all of his wealth and power still drove a Chevy Malibu and lived with his mother nearly until her death in nineteen eighty. Whitey, was a Southie boy through and through no, one would accuse him of talking to the feds so why he ran southie and that meant he had all the tools in his pocket, the power of the FBI and the power to do whatever needed to be done to anyone who crossed him. In. The kitchen John mcintire shook his head apologizing over and over again he told his boss. I'm sorry. I was week white. He wasn't interested in the apologies he needed information. He turned the conversation to ask him questions about what McIntyre told the FBI. NDA and then oddly his questions shifted back towards business McIntyre was entrenched in Boston's drug trade Whitey. He had been forcing South Boston's drug dealers to pay him rent for working his streets and he wanted to make sure he was still getting his haircut McIntyre spilled everything both what he said to the feds and about the drug industry he held back nothing by the time McIntyre was done talking Whitey was satisfied. He calmed McIntyre down in assured him that they were just going to send him away. Once the heat died down, he could return to Boston somehow whites he managed to convince McIntyre to come down to the basement with him. and. Once they were downstairs white he tried to strangle McIntyre with the rope. But the rope was too thick. All it did was make McIntyre. throw-up frustrated Whitey grabbed a gun and shot him with that bullet. Whitey used his position as an informant for the FBI to kill another enforcement and the FBI had helped him do it. People like John McIntyre. What collateral damage the cost of doing business ultimately McIntyre's death meant nothing to Whitey. In fact, he went upstairs and took a nap a ritual he kept after every kill. Meanwhile, two of his henchmen buried the body

Tesla targeted in failed ransomware extortion scheme
"Said that Tesla's Nevada Gigafactory was attacked by a Russian national who tried to recruit an employee to introduce malware into their computer system. Despite being offered $1 million. The employee alerted the FBI before the attack and arrest of the culprit. The malware, if planted successfully, would have extracted data, then demand a ransom for its return.
The University of Utah, Jack Daniel's Whiskey, and Carnival Cruise Lines Hit in Ransomware Attacks
"Do the University of UTAH? Jack. Daniels. Whiskey. And Carnival cruise lines all have in common. Well Friday last last Friday. The University of Utah revealed that it had paid a ransomware gang four, hundred and fifty seven dollars. And fifty nine cents. Four, hundred, Fifty, seven, thousand. Yes I got that would have been. Four hundred and fifty, seven, thousand dollars and fifty, nine, hundred, and fifty thousand. Fifty nine dollars. which sort of begs the question or they get that number? Now that I finally got it out correctly, it's probably bitcoin. Nine dollars like half a million bucks. It's like the Bitcoin version thing they probably would. Yes somewhere. BITCOIN that turned out to be that. And what's interesting is that was not to obtain the decryption key for their files. They didn't need it because it turns out that very few of their files were encrypted but rather her and Leo I know this goes to you know the thing that were you just kind of like. Grit your teeth to purchase the promise. From the extortionists. That the student information that had been exfiltrated beforehand while. Yeah that's not be publicly released your Seymour. One this is big. Yeah. Yeah. They're they're they're just they're hoping that the there is honor among thieves and that these guys will keep their word in senators. Word is that if if you want others to pay you yes. That's it. Exactly. If, of course, ransomware gangs or not all the same but and didn't we hear no, it wasn't It was cannon that had some information leaked last week that we reported on and so so Lawrence over at bleeping computer has said that you know they assumed since the jetsons cannon got themselves back up relatively quickly that they had paid the ransom. But now since the extortionists in that instance were leaking the information, maybe cannon had restored from backups and said, Nah, we're not paying your stinking ransom and the bad guy said. Here comes your You know your your private corporate next decade plans for the future. How do you? How do you want that? How how do you feel about that being leaked? Anyway. So the in this case University of Utah explained. That it had dodged a major ransomware incident and that the attackers managed to encrypt only zero point zero, two percent. Of the data stored on their servers. And the university staff was easily able to restore that from backups. However, the ransomware group then threatened to release student related data see they had obtained and exfiltrated. So, the university said after careful consideration, the university decided to work with its cyber insurance provider to pay a fee to the ransomware attacker. This was done as a proactive and preventative steps to ensure information was not released on the Internet and again to the extent that such. Can Be ensured. The Cyber Insurance policy pay part of the ransom, and the university covered the remainder no tuition grant donation state or tax payer funds were used to pay the ransom thought that was an interesting explicit statement that they made. They said, the university disclosed that the attack took place a little over a month ago on July nineteenth twenty twenty and the network belonging to the Collar College of social and behavioral science was the victim. So Apparently A. A you know as a sub set of the. Entire Larger University. was where the break in occurred and there must have been some isolation there. So anyway, that is one of the three and presumably they were able to negotiate a cheaper payment in order to you know because they hit the bad guys hadn't managed to get. The bulk of the of the university stuff. But you know they did pay for they promised to not share student data, and as you said Leo, the reason that would be honored as well as you know, nearly half a million dollars. And they want to do. Yeah exactly. You got to build your credibility. Exactly And two other large and notable recent ransomware victims were Brown forman famous for their distillation of Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskey. And Carnival cruises. The Jack Daniels folks said are quick actions upon discovering the attack prevented our systems from being encrypted. Unfortunately again, we believe some information including employee data was impacted. We are working closely with law enforcement as well as world class third party data security experts to mitigate and resolve this situation. As soon as possible, there are no active negotiations so. In that. So that says it sorta sounds like. Oh, in fact, a that statement from Brown forman came after Bloomberg News reported that it had received an anonymous tip of the ransomware attack a site on the dark web claiming to be run by members of the reveal strain. A ransomware says that it had obtained a terabyte of data from the Louisville Kentucky based. Brown. Foreman the site said that stolen data included contracts financial. Statements Credit Histories and internal correspondence of employees also included were screen shots of file structures documents purportedly taken during the heist. So does look like the pattern we're seeing now is because you know major companies that have the deep pockets who also have the pocket depth to now proactively backup their servers well. So it's possible for the for if if the only thing done was encryption. A golden opportunity to extract a ransom could be thwarted if the if the good guys have backups at. So now what's being done is That data pre encryption is being exfiltrated and stored somewhere. Then the data is encrypted and so we have you know we're we're we're increasingly seeing this two part attack exfiltration that the company desperately does not want to be made public. In case they have backups in which case, they would not otherwise need to pay the extortion. So you know it's not really ransomware as much as it is. Okay. We got copies of all your stuff. Shall we share it with the world? PLANO blackmail.

"And now the spiel. The trump administration wants Iraq to pay us to leave. This is the stupidest thing ever except of course the last stupidest thing ever but this is stupider than most of the stupidest things because the other stupidest things are things where non stupid people know. They're stupid and and you know. Allow the president to have a little bit of a Tantrum but then put the stupid thing in a desk drawer or otherwise. Ignore it example of that stupid thing I will Obama your cultural sites to trump by the way cultural site is a casino. Or maybe the Access Hollywood bus. But then the secretary of Defense Mark Asper perhaps risking wrath of the president says. No we're not going to do that. It is so stupid perhaps adding maybe someday Mr Trump will thank me if you ever find yourself in The Hague and it take the judges a full hour to deliberate on your guilt rather than forty five minutes. Remember those extra fifteen minutes. I did that for you. This now is the real stupidest I think he also said this quote. We have a very extraordinarily expensive airbase. That's their it cost billions of dollars to build long before my time. We're not leaving unless they pay us back for it okay. It's not the adverb modifying other adverb. That is definitely frequently thing. President trump does what I mean. Is this since since the. US troops are in Iraq at the invitation of the Iraqis. Like I said and the prime minister just has to say go and we have to go if he says go then. What this means is if we don't go we will be invading Iraq in other words it essentially demand which can never and will never be met the demand essentially boils down to pay us or or else this will count as an invasion and occupation and we would have no leverage in getting any money out of this? It is the world's worst extortion. Shen racket I would say the world's worst protection racket but it's really more like a lack of protection racket now. The troops are already there so it wouldn't be an invasion invasion in the strictest sense more like I don't know existing cells turning cancerous and fighting against your own body his basically turning or would would like to turn the US armed forces into sleeper cells. Fantastic you know what. Let's rename our divisions. The fighting fourth NAT shakedown squadron. The squatting fourth we you call them. It might not register when you heard the news you might have not had it register as much as some of the other crazy stuff. Oh that's not totally wacko bananas. Maybe because I don't know things like gas lighting habituation but also because on some level maybe it has some logical appeal. I mean in general Americans don't want to be ripped off. In general Americans think we've spent much Iraq in general Americans don't want to be in a foreign country where they're not wanted but seriously this demand mand is far far stupider and more implausible than bind greenland or nuking hurricanes or stocking the wall with alligators. There's at least. The stocking and acquisition of alligators is a domestic task in an area over which has sovereignty and clearly by the way falls within Jared Kushner's SCHNURR's portfolio. The White House also leaked to the media. That is not only the ill-informed fantasy of captain crazy pants. It is an actual plan the works. How trump wants money for an airbase that advances U. S. interests that will henceforth not be used by the US S. because trump ruined things and at least one person in the employ of the executive branch takes that set of facts and says okay? Let's see how to word word that let me read from a Washington Post report where the headline is after. Trump's threat administration begins drafting possible sanctions against Iraq. Yeah that was another part of it that we're going to sanction Iraq for this but here it says he meaning trump also demanded Iraq reimbursed the United States billions of dollars for investments. Simmons made in an airbase there as a precursor for any troops. Leaving broad confusion remains over. How the United States will respond to those demands Defense Secretary Martinez? Bur said on Monday. That the United States has not decided to leave Iraq after a letter surfaced in which the US military said to Iraqi officials that the US forces would be relocating. Confusion remains how the United States will respond to Donald. Trump's demands the demand and that we get paid to leave this is essentially the might and power of the US government coalescing to pursue a harassment lawsuit now to take a further step out. I do notice. I have noticed over the years that there is this trend in press coverage of what the administration is said to be drafting sometimes. It's legit I mean. The policies aren't good but sometimes the administration really does draft something and it goes goes into effect a lot of times with the EPA. This happens because the executive branch has really firm control over the EPA most of the backsliding on the environment that the administration creation would like to go into effect has gone into effect. Thank God but with so much of the other said to be drafting type reporting. Let us in fact let us now. Review Washington Post did a story about the plan to deny green cards to people who use public assistance. Too much watch. It was called the public charge. Rule Post says quote. The rule has been a top priority of Stephen Miller. The architect of Mr Trump's immigration agenda. Mr Miller has repeatedly pushed administration officials to finish drafting the regulation known as the public charge rule. well the rule was drafted did cut to last week. Three separate federal judges blocked the public charge rule from being implemented one judge. The government did not give a adequate reason for why the change was needed. This is just like that perfect replacement for the day or the travel ban or when the Commerce Department was said to be drafting an inclusion lesion of citizenship question on the twenty two thousand census here is the ultimate upshot of how that went president trump retreating from his push to add a citizenship question. Two the two thousand census after a week of insisting his administration would continue to fight the issue. Many of these said should be drafting. draftkings never reach a final form but very often they do and very often when they do they do not stand up to legal scrutiny. I suppose you could say that the administration was said to be drafting acting a raft of tariffs against China and then they did draft them and then they did impose them but even so I think it falls into this category because they didn't work. It's it's a cycle of crazy claim. Oh he can't be serious yes he serious. In fact he's drafting and draft is now proposal but at some point point along the line and sometimes not until the end it all crumbles into nothingness. It's almost as if so many of these terrible ideas were either destined to fail or or never meant to actually work. My analysis is that the trump administration is just as happy to get people mad as it is to get stuff done in fact maybe the president prefers the former over the latter. Getting stuff done requires care and follow through but lobbing an driven proposal just feels really good in the moment maybe like lobbing a missile at an adversary. The trump administration never learns. Doesn't care that there's a difference between making a proclamation and making policy. It's the difference between loudly getting attention and properly giving it and that's it for today's show was produced in part by Christopher Johnson who edited the stranglehold interview or as the trump administration spells it spangled bread. Daniel schrader doesn't produce the gist. Wait sorry that was the Arab translation he does does produce the astronaut. I guess he does. Maybe his plans at this point not to produce the gist of he stops. He definitely wants money for leaving. It's hard sing the gist. When when I retire I will be billing you for all the hours you listened but failed to use the appropriate? Promo codes improved that Peru Peru. And thanks for listening.

"Seriously you could interpret that in a lot of ways what he does is he watches all these other states extremely closely and if anyone even comes close to getting close to our first nations spot he finds a way to Swat them away like nine hundred ninety nine when we went toe to toe with Iowa of all places that we've shown time and time again that the state of New Hampshire especially the political class will stand up and fight people off. This is why we chose stranglehold as title bill because despite all the things that the political class will tell you about how we offer such a great gift to people by being the first the nation primary. Because we're offering retail politics and in other states. It's you know candidates fly into the airplane. Hangar make it press conference announcement and fly out whereas here we can offer something but you know sure. That's the argument. But really when when it's come time time to fight. Overstaying I new Hampshire has really risen to the challenge whether it's political blackmail or fighting with their so-called brother over there in the first first in the nation state and Iowa new annual northbound down to the challenge and Bill Gardner is a huge huge part of that Bill Gardner when he sets the date. That's it he does not change and I did not understand how important that was to him. It seemed like no argument. No appeal to reason no openness to compromise compromise would work basically. It came down to this. I'm just going to cut to the chase. This is bullshit were New Hampshire and God damn it. You should move this is you know. I don't give a shit about Iowa and so what's been interesting for us as as we tried to tell the full story of Bill Gardner partner which is that over the last couple of years. He's become a much more controversial figure is even in his own party you know. He is a registered Democrat and yet conservatives have kind of really rushed I to back him lately because he takes a lot of stances on voting issues that are much more aligned with the Republican Party than the Democratic Party. And it's Kinda put Democrats in a weird spot where they feel like a lot of long standing lawmakers. Feel like we've got a relationship with this guy. He keeps the primary I you know. What are we supposed to do here? This is completely against what we believe. So they've been in kind of a rocky SPA and so when his last time for reelection and I should say he's elected by the New Hampshire legislature which I'm sure you know is massive and that became a really really interesting moment for them to kind of reflect on who they really want in that position. Now what you Gardner. So this is an irony. Here's the guy who is the guardian of elections. He's not even popularly elected he's elected but selected by the state legislature. And it's every two years ears right. Yes it is and for many many many years there really wasn't much of an election to be had. It was Kinda like pro forma situation because he was so popular and I should say despite all this controversy that I was just talking about he is extremely popular in the street legislature. And he's known around the state so you know it's been a pretty easy thing for him to run for quote unquote re election with all of his peers except for his most recent election which came down to like a nail biter which you know everyone was kind of taken taken aback by and the question at the end of the day for many lawmakers was. If we don't have Gardner who's GonNa keep the first in the nation primary because that I'm telling you is the thing around here. Yes yes. So how important is it. How important is it? Well what about monetarily. As opposed to just the psychic values are way to put a number on it. Well it's it's hard to really put it like a very complete number on it but I will say institutions like my own Alma Mater Saint College a small Liberal Arts College. Here you know the the debates from CNN all these big places would come in every four years and be hosted at the college. The college could then advertise students myself. Included here's a brochure. Look how you you can get involved with the primary. The presidential elections so. Unh same thing New England College. So you know that's not nothing that's certainly money going into a place that it wouldn't otherwise wer. wer Is our only television station. They get crazy ad revenue from candidates. Who Want To? Obviously I've television ADS on few one. TV Station in New Hampshire we. It should not even forget also that there are a lot of people who in the political class have made long careers off of this. There are people like who started on the Jimmy Carter Campaign Jeanne Shaheen among them. Who would go onto governor of New Hampshire and of course is now one of our most senior? US Senator so this thing is certainly helped a lot of people and it's benefited me. Do which we've been like very open about on the podcasts at Hampshire primary also benefits reporters and young college kids like myself who thought it was awesome to be able to talk to candidates. It's at my school. And then benefited from them. Obviously by being able to have be interviewed by reporters and then get internships. So yeah I would say it's hard to put an exact number on but it's definitely there's definitely benefits so here you are. You're sticking your thumb in the eye of this supposedly beloved institution. What kind of reaction are you getting from the people of New Hampshire and the person who is the topic of your first episode Bill Garner? Okay well I the people certainly been in Split. I will say that voters. We had a survey early on asking voters. Like what do you want your primary coverage and a Lotta people from New Hampshire. Wanted to know why the hell are we first so we were like well. This is good. We should tackle that if people here don't know that's a great thing to to help them understand so I would say that a lot of voters are really happy about it. We've also heard from people. Oh from other states who are like. Finally I understand why this thing is I and now I feel like I understand it. And its place in this larger tradition picking presidents and that's great but we've also got a lot of pushback from people who have started political careers off of this thing or people who feel were not saying enough enough about the great the greatness that the New Hampshire primary should provide I guess separate from that as far as Bill Gardner is concerned you know we had tried many times to reach out to him because we really wanted to talk to him for the first episode. He at that time it said that he wouldn't do an interview with us until he announced the the data the first nation primary which I should say is only up to him so he is the only person who knew when he would do that so obviously that meant that he was not going to be sitting down with us us. And and since that point we have heard and we're recording at a point when he told another national reporter that this podcast that we put together is full of lies and untruths and so we of course than we're like. Well you know we would really like to talk to you about that. What are you talking about? And he said he hadn't I heard it so he's still wouldn't do an interview unless we did it on his terms in the middle of this big press conference about announcing the date of the primary and so instead. We you kind of put an episode together last minute. That just showed why. He says he thinks it's full of on truth. which is that? He doesn't want he hasn't listened to it and other thoughts that he had about the first. The Nation primarily expressed in that press conference. And that's about as far as we've gotten but I think the short answer would be. He doesn't seem to be. You're happy with it even even though he didn't listen. Do you think if this were. I don't know twelve years ago and podcasting weren't the phenomena that it is and you were mostly playing playing to just or almost entirely playing to a new Hampshire crowd. Would this have been the kind of undertaking that the station was eager to commit commit to. That is a very good question. Because some of what we've been doing as we think about looking at this as an institution has had to look back at our own coverage and we do have. I've done coverage that really was like. Oh how cute is the primary and so we are just as I guess guilty of of this guardianship protective nature. I'm talking about where that I've seen in other organizations and I think that because We've shown that we can do investigative stories. We can tell the big stories that we can do narrative stories that made the newsroom. Feel like we could take a risk pulling me off the trail and and investing in a big question like this and looking at the primary in a different way but I also think that pike as are a big part of it because it would be a whole other thing too you know. Where would we have put it right? I mean you know public radio back then was where where newscasts were by the clock and I feel like we've all started to take a lot of risks lately about where we can put things in how we can tell stories But I would like to think that You know I cherish my colleagues and I think very highly of them and I'm I'm sure back then what my colleague Josh Rogers was here at that point and I know that he was thinking critically about the primary back then to you lauren. Children's podcast stranglehold has a stranglehold on my imagination. It is excellent. You're you're so much about the New Hampshire primary. Just take one second to step back and ask why Lauren. Jenner's reporter for New Hampshire public radio. Thank you Laura..

"Is rather than when you had in the case of the Clinton impeachment where the vast majority of Americans thought this was. BS This is is just Republicans. Hate this guy and they got that they understood it even with Fox News existing and with Nixon people saying Oh my God our president might be a crook. Well that's right right as it is. I believe it only if it's my team which is why the facts have to be emphasized. What we're talking about here is a bribery extortion scheme and the the facts are so straight-forward? It just has to be emphasized to the public. What the facts are? The only issue here is did. Donald Trump commit bribery when he he withheld the monies. That were appropriated for Ukraine's defense asking for an investigation of the Biden's into Ukraine's and so-called involvement in in the two thousand sixteen invested election. And was it extortion. When he told the Ukraine's wouldn't have the money to fight off the Russians Russians? who were on their border? Basically killing people every day if they didn't open an investigation into the Biden's and also also look into this crazy conspiracy theory about Ukraine being the ones that hacked into the Democratic National Committee. I mean it is that simple and it's got to be that way. It's not a question of this side or that side whether you're Republican or a Democrat extortion. Extortion and bribery is bribery. And and the facts are uncontested. Here Jill is it. Are we partly a victim of our era because you know back. During the Nixon era the Soviet the then Soviet Union was thought of enemy. Almost every American right and so there was something boogeyman ish about anything about Russia. Now that isn't isn't the case really for a lot of Americans think about that country and there are a lot of people on the Republican end. Then actually admire Russia as some sort of readout last readout out of White Christians in the world so it isn't the same story when you're talking about Ukraine this country with our gives it multiple. Don't even know where it is. You put a map about maybe You know and defending themselves against Russia. That doesn't resonate the same way for a lot of Americans particularly on the right. I think that what is important important here is that this is a very clear case of extortion. There's no matter what you call it you can call quid pro quo. You can call it. Bribery it is clearly clearly an impeachable offense. The president has done something to ask for foreign interference in our election. It doesn't matter what the foreign country is and and it's not that long ago that Republicans thought that Russia was the enemy. It's only now that Donald Trump has taken over and has cozied up to to a dictator from another country to many countries. Actually it's not just here and I think what we're we're missing is that In Watergate you had the three networks and they all had the same facts now if you listen to Fox News you have totally different facts and we have to get back to what. What are the underlying facts? People listening to this should be listening to the witnesses not to the summaries of the witnesses. That's where you get the truth. Yeah and we don't have the truth out there and we need to be teaching critical thinking skills in our schools because if people had those skills they would be able to listened to the evidence and analyze it and I think the important thing is to make this like a trial where people are jurors and they take seriously listening to the facts and acting on those facts. Carol Joy. Yes well I I wanted to tell Gabe that whether there is really important to the American people networks are fighting for their lives and all our focus groups show that people love whether. Yeah so. That's why it was Salita but the other thing I wanted to say is that I'm going to throw some more shade on the American public. But they're not reading. They're getting I the other thing. That is so distressing about coverage is. They're getting clips that somebody sent them on social media they're getting clicks next to go through stories that are just headlines on their phones and the American people are not reading. Trump is always saying. Read the transcripts. We don't don't read anymore. It's all shorthand. And so what are they getting. They don't understand. It's difficult well before we go. I do want to get gills pin deal. What is your opinion because we are watching that pin? It's a duck because Eric Swale said if it walks like a duck and talks doc I feel the same way about Donald Trump's behavior no matter what you call it it's impeachable. Thank you all for being here and I will grow in one last note then I think one of the changes in the Republican Party is that at the moment. There's a lot of good good money flowing into the NRA and fluent into states like Kentucky and maybe the money is Uh Changing People's minds ackerman. And Gabriel Sherman Nicole Hammer Carol the thinking much carroll joins me.

Russia also regularly boosts or bond in his government on its state run propaganda networks like RT and Sputnik. It's therefore not especially surprising that trump would invite someone like or onto the Oval Office but administration officials. Were against this meeting. They didn't want to take place. According to The Washington Post Trump's advisers tried to stop trump from meeting with Oregon because they knew trump would listen to him over for his own cabinet. According to one former White House official quote basically. Everyone agreed no Orbin meeting because we knew there was a good chance that trump and orban's would bond and get along and quote. We don't know exactly what trump and or von talked about because in something of a trend with trump. There were no official note takers. What was an hour long meeting? What we do know is that one official said that the meeting quote solidified trump's negative views about dolinsky quote an example of the president? They didn't himself under malign influence being steered by it. This is from someone serving in government. Who thinks that? The president is under the malign influence of Putin in May according to another Washington Post Story Mick Mulvaney the acting White House chief of staff and head of Owen be decided to quote take Ukraine policy out of the traditional channels input according to their term the three Amigos goes on top of the name there was former governor of Texas in current US energy. He's Secretary Rick Perry. There was Gordon. Sunland a longtime gop donor who made his fortune in the hotel industry news been serving the US ambassador to the European Union. Indian there's also Kurt Volker and we mentioned him last episode because he worked at consulting firm that Ukraine's last president. Petro Poor SHANECO had hired to help set up our relationship with trump and he has been serving as a special envoy to Ukraine Volcker was not some hack. He was an experienced foreign policy. "Giuliani gave you a call and I'm also going the have attorney general bar call in we will get to the bottom of it wasn't asking. I was telling Giuliani bar. Trump's personal lawyer and his attorney Attorney General his Roy Cohn the guy he appointed to protect him are going to give Zilenski a call zone Linski agrees to take their call but trump is still not done almost off hand. He mentioned that this is really ause. alinsky needs to do for trump to give him what he wants. This White House meeting the stamp of White House approval of American approval. Trump says quote. I will tell Rudy Attorney General. Barda call thank you whenever you would like to come to the White House feel free free to call give us a date and we'll work that out. I look forward to seeing you end. Quote trump right here was dangling. The meeting that Zielinski Linski team had been desperate to get in trump. Says they'll call you and then you'll get your meaning. Where's my Roy Cohn that's the question? President trump reportedly asked an anger after learning that his then Attorney General Jeff sessions had recused himself from the Russian investigation in two thousand seventeen president. Trump wanted an attorney general. Who would to protect them? Someone like Roy Cohn controversial lawyer that did represent trump and his nonpolitical career as the DOJ finds itself now at the center of the whistle blower scandal. Some are accusing them of protecting the president. The thing about a presidential phone call though is that they are not private other members of the national security team. Listen in is you taking the notes full of criminal conspiracy and it would be a bit of an understatement to say that most of the people listening on this call freaked out trump was is using the power of the presidency to strong arm to extort a foreign country to help himself politically he was once. Again trying to collude allude with a foreign country in this time he was caught in the act and it was so brazen that trump's own people people who volunteered to work for him in the White House who supported him thought it crossed the line thought it was too much in thought something needed to be done to stop him. Perhaps trump after Muller's feeble performance thought. He was home free but much. Like how trump's firing of Komi lead to the appointment of Robert Mueller trump's call l. prompted a whistleblower complaint which ended up breaking the scandal wide open so much in the Russia investigation in the Ukraine scandal has been incredibly complicated. Did but what led up to this call and what follows is a clear in straightforward sequence of events of a corrupt man in his corrupt team. Doing whatever it takes the help themselves. Even if it meant abusing their power breaking the law in extorting a partner of the United States. I Max Bergmann in this is the asset.

"Tonight both happen to be associates of Rudy Giuliani president. Trump's personal lawyer. ABC News has just learned that to foreign born trump donors who are part of Rudy Giuliani's efforts to investigate Joe Biden have been arrested. They have been charged with campaign finance violations and are set to appear in court in Virginia. This was the first arrest of the Ukraine investigation left Parnasse and eager from in both were associates of Rudy. Giuliani who've been helping him in his quest to find dirt on the Biden's but how they became key figures and trump's extortion of Ukraine. That's something we do. Now in. Their story offers a window into the corruption. Chaos of the trump White House. And how how. Many people stood to benefit from their willingness to shape down the Ukrainian government colluding about Russians which. I'm not even know if that's a crime polluting about Russia. Okay on April twenty first. This happened Ukrainian comedian has won the presidential election with a landslide. Securing more than seventy percent cent of the vote in Ukraine Episode Three Extortion on July Twenty Fifth Jeff Twenty nine thousand. Nine trump had his now infamous phone call with the newly elected. Ukrainian president below. d'humieres Alinsky this call came seven seven days. After the trump administration had decided to withhold aid to Ukraine from the White House released. Transcript of the call which may have been altered and it shows trump essentially extorting Zielinski. Trump is in effect trying to collude with Ukraine in the twenty twenty election. He Asks Alinsky to to work with Rudy Giuliani his personal lawyer and attorney. General are to investigate former vice president. Joe Biden trump was offering offering a foreign country the resources of the US Justice Department to investigate his potential twenty twenty opponent in suggesting that this investigation Shen was a precondition for the US Ukraine cooperation. That Zilenski desperately sought trumps started out the call by telling Zielinski that the US has provided a lot of support for Ukraine and that he's worried that the relationship is quote. Reciprocal he actually used the word reciprocal. In case anyone had any doubts. About the fact that this was clearly going to be a quid pro quo conversation. The president of the United States is acting like a mob boss Angry that a woman like you would be not just dismissed but humiliated and attacked by the president of the United States. The lifetime of service and sacrifice an excellent might be ignored by the president of the United States worse yet attacked in language that would embarrass a mob boss. What those notes reflect is a classic mafia-like shakedown before leader? That sounds more like I made an offer. They couldn't refuse much more extortion. Then Quinn pre. It wasn't a deal. It was a threat and it was a mob. SHAKEDOWN trump. Says I will say that. We do a lot for Ukraine. We spent a lot of effort in a Lotta time much more than the European countries are doing and they should be helping you more than they are. The United States has been very very good to Ukraine. I wouldn't say that it's reciprocal necessarily because things are happening thing. That are not good. But the United States has been very very good to Ukraine split Zielinski Gi then think trump and said that Ukraine would like to buy more weapons from the United States but trump responds. I would like you to do us a favor favor though because our country has been through a lot and Ukraine knows a lot about it. I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation. With Ukraine. They say crowd strike. I guess you have one of your wealthy people. The server they say Ukraine has it. There are a lot of things things that went on the whole situation. I think you're surrounding yourself with some of the same people. I would like to have the attorney general. Call you or your people people and I'd like you to get to the bottom of it as you saw yesterday. That whole nonsense ended with a very poor performance by a man named Robert Mueller an incompetent performance. But they say a lot of it started with Ukraine. Whatever you can do? It's very important that you do it if that's possible now. The Price H.. For the license is less than twenty thousand dollars. That's right now. Why would I consider paying more than that? Because I didn't squeezed you. Let's break this down for second. Trump is effectively accusing Ukraine of interfering in the twenty sixteen election against him. He also seems to say it's a little confusing. Because of the ellipse that are in the transcript. Meaning we're not quite sure. Sure exactly what he said. Here that quote one of your wealthy people which may be a reference to the main oligarch backer Zielinski who is actually under investigation in the US. By the Department of Justice so trump seems to be saying I could make your life very difficult Zielinski and so whatever you can do. Trump concludes includes his comments. It's very important that you do it and quote and I south. I said Nice House. You live there little girls. Having a birthday hunts this family yes it is and to take care seat and nothing happens So alinsky now on this call has to dance. He doesn't want to get in the middle of interfering in American politics but trump is basically accusing accusing Ukraine of which Dolinsky is now in charge of of interfering in the two thousand sixteen election and in this has been overlooked saying that Zielinski is surrounding himself himself with quote unquote the same people in other words. Trump is saying. You're kind of looking like my enemy like my adversary pacifist Santino. Tina Gao Yu wrong fingers sunny for the budget. You play with my sister you think they could fool the Cardi on my comment. I swear kids Lewinsky is now on the back foot and he says he is quote ready to open a new page cooperation in relations between the United States and and Ukraine so he said sure he will meet with Rudy and quote. I just want to assure you once again that you have nobody but friends around us. I also want to tell you that that we are friends. I guarantee as president of Ukraine the all the investigations will be done openly and candidly that I can assure you keep saying. Don't worry dude we're cool. We're friends I'm not your enemy but Dolinsky response is also sort of a non-answer ya'll gal with rudy and I WANNA be friends isn't the same thing as yes definitely. I'm going to look into this and start an investigation into your political opponents. So trump isn't finished he. He drives home the point quote. Good because I heard you how to prosecutor who is very good in. He was shut down. And that's really unfair are a lot of people are talking about that the way they shut your very good prosecutor down and you had some very bad people involved only. Don't tell me you because it sells intelligence. Xp Very angry trump's now referring to the Prosecutor General Lute Sankoh who we talked talked about in the last episode who was playing ball with Rudy Giuliani. Who is giving interviews to John Solomon and has? We'll talk about to the New York Times saying that he's going to investigate instigate Joe Biden trump. Then pivots back to what he wants. Quote Mr Giuliani is a highly respected ban. I will ask him to call you along with their attorney. Attorney General Rudy. Very much knows what's happening. And he's a very capable guy. If you could speak to him that would be great. There's a lot of talk about Biden son and that Biden stopped the prosecution in a lot of people. WanNa find out about that so whatever you can do. With attorney general would be great Biden went around bragging that he stop the prosecution so if you can look into it it sounds horrible to me. So let's remember who Giuliani is. He's trump's personal lawyer hired it to defend trump around the more investigation. I know almost every big liar. New York who the hell are you special practice. I handled one client. Trump is saying his alinsky. You really need to meet with my personal lawyer and this is also often been lost the US Attorney General General to investigate Biden in his son his political opponent in so Zielinski agrees. He says I get it. He says his new prosecutor general quote quote will look into the situation specifically to the company that you mentioned in this issue the issue of the investigation of the case is actually the issue of making sure to restore honesty so we work on the investigation of the case. Zilenski says in other words Zielinski assaying. Yes the extortion is working. But trump doesn't don't want there to be any confusion about what Zielinski needs to do and he says quote. I will have Mr.

Hour we have Nathan false from neighborhood editor of and contributor to the San Francisco Business, Times extortion scams, yelp extortion for, restaurants similar similar to the diner dash guy kind of makes me feel at. Restaurants now A little different all kinds of ways of people are taking advantage of. Restaurants when I'm thinking the right now Jim Roope we're talking about net neutrality Jim are there any other models. Out. There such, as how we've, dealt, with, telephones a radio. That is how people. Are sort of modeling what, to do with the internet well if net. Neutrality means under the net neutrality principles that internet service providers. Are not able to intentionally block slowdown or charge money for specific websites and online content, the closest thing, that you could, get on a common carrier type situation like this would be the cable industry okay As far as telephone telecommunications goes or telephony in general think doll lumped into one but I think the best comparison maybe the cable TV industry when it was. Nearly a monopoly before the dish network and all these other satellite services came into play there was pretty much. A You know the the fees and? Everything, that. Went along with k right in in in certain channels having to pay x. amount of dollars to be, on this particular cable system and, so wouldn't it be fair, though but that was really corrected, by competition is the government looking at it that way at all yeah absolutely while the marketplace usually for a free market system kind. Of ferrets all that out It makes all that work, if you don't have a free market system of course it doesn't but in. That's where the government regulations really shit, stop just in making sure that there's? A free market system so really there's this is kind? Of, as. You said before you went into break this is sort of a brand new territory This net, neutrality thing and what can, and cannot happen well it's interesting did you, have a sense of where it's gonna go I think. The state of California will adopt it's these net. Neutrality rules especially since, it, has gone, through the committee process back and forth so much with amendments that. There really two bills there's a SBA eight eight twenty two which really defines what the. Net neutrality laws would be in that no ISP can intentionally block slowdown or charge money for specific website websites or online content the other one s four. Sixty would enforce would help enforce that law or provide, penalties for any company that does not comply to the net, neutrality? Rules what was it. Not the case that the federal government one of the. States, have solve. Their own problems with this right so this is good That was Donald Trump's initial ten really wanted to back so he was well let states deal with. This well here we are all right I'm all for, it I think it's good I this is the system working, fantastic? "Powell no really this is just all like super cool stuff i could talk about all day with you and i do wanna get into on your your work your book um because you've written about two pretty controversial things i mean operation redwings and the extortion seventeen crash i'm not quite sure where to start i mean i guess um with extortion seventeen i mean there's been a lot of controversies um i think you know for the people listening to this podcast and we published an article that you wrote today about the myths surrounding extortion seventeen maybe that's a good place to start because i know peter of heard these conspiracy theories before um i've i've even had a let's just say family members on get try to get in touch with me who believe than conspiracies about extortion seventeen and i was wondering if you could address some of those from a conceptual fundamental standpoint i think what what's going on you know there's a there's a i don't want to see a schism but it 'cause it's biden's fine but the separation between the population nonmilitary population and people who are warfighters who worked for the department of defense is huge is just through such a lack of understanding particularly of modern warfare and how these things work and you you get questions like why wasn't the 160 is supporting these guys are special operations and their elite and their this know that and the reality is that conventional forces today work with special operations forces all the time and support you know summer supporting summer supported i it you know it is particularly in these these recent wars an ally an oh yeah uh wasn't so much that at the beginning of oh yeah but it certainly call that way and there are only so many captors to go around i mean that one six yet doesn't added with unlimited number of helicopters and pilots just floating around yeah.
