EV Used Car Values Are Holding Up

"So the altium battery cells Gm and lg's the nine they've given it to the platform more than just the cells or the batteries that made into recently. They've been calling it. The ltm platform and that is going to be the foundation for all of their electric cars and thanks to a youtube channel by ray non navia. We can now check the construction process of that facility. That's going up in lewistown. Ohio a joint venture between gm and lg. Like i say according to inside hof the construction work is already done. The buildings are up the reeves on on. But you can see the buildings going up and surely there is so much still to do. But within several months they are on target to have that facility finish. There is an unhealthy obsession with watching tesla build factories and the busiest aspects of germany. Right now is probably drones above some way just outside of berlin or maybe texas facility asli. They're all the gigafactory is being built. Gm's with algae is coming along very nicely baking. It'll be out of the oven soon. And they company will install manufacturing equipment later this year. Production starts in two thousand nine hundred twenty two the spending two point three billion dollars on it. It's going to create one thousand one hundred new jobs in lordstown ohio and they're gonna make about thirty gigawatt hours annually of cells which is huge. It puts them just behind. Tesla's gigafactory in nevada. Funnily enough okay. Let's move on and on the podcast next. We're going to be talking about what's fascinating story next on the show an official look into battery safety and that's not to say that batteries are unsafe in any possible way but the american. Nhtsa nitsa is creating and a battery initiative for visas to coordinate looking at things like the research the investigations and the safety standards around battery safety. And that's a good thing because you know these are incredibly safe like the comic is themselves and the battery. Maker's is an amazing job with this. I feel so safe driving around. Evt's and you just think about because we've had cars combustion costs for hundred years. You don't think i'm driving. I'm putting my family and my baby inside a car which is carrying around litas. Some gallons of very high highly combustible liquid blows up. I mean when you look at the fire department and the fire brigade stats on cough. Is they've really coleman. And so when there's an incident of course it makes the news because they're so rat but normal 'cause burned down all the time. So i feel very safe driving a navy if you're drive already but it's really good news. The nhtsa has created an initiative to look at the kind of coordinated analysis of data investigations. When there's a crash an anon- crash event and look at diagnostics and even cybersecurity as well. That's all very important. According to the website Techno codex this initiative nitsa that it will conduct investigations into safety related defects in vs and be a central point on battery safety. That's very very important. Lots of people are doing this. But i think it will give consumers more confidence.

Tesla reigns as #2 EV maker in Norway

"Came out the other day that vote. The new Volkswagen Electric Electric vehicle has already over taken Tesla's the number one selling electric vehicle in Norway, and that's significant because Norway is probably one of the most Robust as per capital, one of the most robust electric vehicle markets because the government is really pushed electric vehicles there. Volkswagen's already taken over Tesla's for the top spot. And the thesis behind Tesla. Believe it or not, these people think the test alongs. Think the test is going to take over the entire auto market that they're going to drive all the other automated. It's just It's ridiculous, and then you see a day like yesterday where it comes out that Tesla's taken over the top spot in Norway or Excuse me. That test has been knocked out of the top spot. Norway by Volkswagen. And on that same day, the stock was up 8%. Literally while while while the investment pieces of evaporating right in front of him. Stock just goes up.

Apple will reportedly start building an EV with a 'breakthrough' battery in 2024

"Apple has announced an ambitious plan to produce electric cars in three years. 2024. Apple is saying they're going to be in the electric car business. And the real thing that caught my attention in the stories being reported by Fox business. The highlight of this story is that they air stating they have a breakthrough in terms of battery technology and egg. We've all been waiting for that. Like, if you want to see the advent of electric cars, the batteries have to be lighter. They have to charge faster on day can't be as expensive as they are today. Say the main thing is they gotta be cheaper, right? I mean, that's a lighter to Michael. You like the weight? Yeah, the weight of a battery is Really? Because you know you used so much energy just powering the wave of the battery. So wait is a huge thing in charge ability. You know how long does it cost? How long does it take to charge and how much does it cost? Charge it

Mustang Mach-E First Drive Review - Ford's All-New New Electric Crossover

"The car driving today is unique for four if their ever history fully electric battery electric vehicle designed from the ground up to be electric unlike some other early eighties like the nissan leaf. You know where. They decided to go for efficiency. Make it as a compact car for decided to go for the heart of the market. They what they really did was. They learned from tesla looked at. You know what tesla was doing. And how tesla was succeeding. That was making cars. Were cool looking. At cool technology had good performance And offer great range and ford decided to start with a compact midsize. upper compact. You know mid size crossover market is today. That's what people wanna buy It's getting close to suv's and crossovers are about forty percent of the us car market now and so the originally conceived this vehicle announced early twenty seventeen as a more conventional tross over. It was basically you know it was going to be front wheel drive. More something like Electric version of the escape Which is very popular compact. Crossover for four but late. Two thousand seventeen. They decided to completely change direction. They realized that that was not a car that was going to get people excited to buy an ev from ford. And so what they did instead was. They said okay. What's our what's our icon. What what is the vehicle that really gets people excited and within ford. The mustang is considered the heart and soul of the brand. It's by no means the best selling car but is the car they build that is representative of so many things for fun to drive. You know the racing history. Ford ford's racing. History goes back to before there was a ford motor company. Henry ford won the money that he used to start ford motor company by winning a race winning the vanderbilt cup and so the The they decided to use mustang as the inspiration for this car and and the end You know what they came up with was a crossover that has mustang design cues but they also knew that if they were gonna put the mustang badge on it that they needed to make it something that would fail. Drive a mustang. It's obviously a car. That's much taller than a traditional mustang. But because it's electric. That has the battery in the floor underneath the floor. That's still gives it a relatively low center of gravity. And they put a lot of the people who've worked on mustang over the years on this program and to try to infuse it with as much mustang dna performance dna and And they territory an attitude as they could and so they came up with something that has echoes of mustang but is also very practical car. For the first time ever you know traditionally mustangs the backseat and the mustang is not a place where you where you wanna be if you're an adult. It's fine for kids but know it's always been a two plus two this is a real five-seater got four doors. Got a hatchback big big cargo area in the back. And it's something that can be used as a family car but it also has a lot of that mustang. feel but it's also extremely modern. So you got things like the fifteen and a half inch touchscreen display in the center here with their sink for a system on it. They designed a completely new user interface for this car and this is going to be spreading out to two other vehicles as well. Unlike tesla Four as ford decided that you're not going to have everything in this touchscreen interface here They did retain a an instrument. Cluster display up in the front here directly in of the driver. Which i think is where it belongs. Yes that gives you information like your speed. Your driver systems systems like dab cruise control and lane keeping assist your range information. All that is right in front of you in the in the user interface here it's designed to be basically three areas three zones of this. You have the main zone up top here which is whatever the current application that you're using right now. It's navigation for dr route but You've also got these cards down here in this lower in this middle section here which represent the other applications that you've used most recently so if you go to things like you know right now there's an iphone connected to this which is being used as the phone is a key system and that brought up the the apple carplay interface and you can see that when it carplay interface came up navigation. Went down here into the most recently used slot in the in the cart section. So i can quickly get back to toggle back and forth. I can go to the ford pass out for charging. If i want to go to tap that and you see the Carplay and the navigation ford passer still down here instantly accessible so the system learns based on your behavioral based on what you're doing and so i'm going to go back here was also At the top here have Your your picture. You can have profiles from multiple drivers in here. Each driver can have Is tied to their own kifah program it to the fourth pass app on your phone use. Use the phone as your key with bluetooth belly when you tap on that it shows you all the apps that are available to the nice thing that they've done with his user interfaces. They've kept everything close to the surface close to the top so you're not drilling down through multiple layers of display multiple layers of interface. To get to the things that you want to use. It's all up close so right now. there's three three drive modes that are available right now in whisper mode which is the most economical mode the quietest mode the engage mode is the default mode. That's kind of a nice balance between the better better efficiency but also more performance and then unbridled is the the most performance oriented mode and what changes in between each of those modes. Is you get changes in the searing. Feel the amount of steering effort and you know for an suv. This thing has excellent steering response during feel to changing the drive modes also changes the accelerator pedal response so in whisper mode. It gives you a little bit slower response when you tip into the accelerator pedal A little smoother. Calmer more comfortable feel to it But then when you go through engage and finally to unbridled each time it gets a little more aggressive both with the the tip in response so that you know when you when you hit the accelerator pedal. It'll respond quicker jump off line faster in unbridled than it does in either engage or whisper but it also does the same in reverse for regenerative braking so in whisper mode you get more aggressive region or rather than Br bridled mode. You get more aggressive regenerative braking than you do in whisper mode or engage mode and you also have the option here separately for one pedal driving And you can set that and it'll stay remember what your settings were So it always goes back to whatever your last settings were so one pedal driving is great especially if your stop and go traffic in city traffic or On a on a on a highway even in stop and go traffic jam because it will bring the car to a complete stop when you lift off the accelerator. So i have not touched the brakes and the car coming to a complete stop here and then accelerating nice. Quick celebration puts you back seat. It's not as fast right now. As the tesla performance moats. But this also isn't the highest performance version. That's that's gonna be the. Gt the machi. Gt comes out in the summer. Twenty twenty one will be the version that goes up against the likes of tesla model y performance with it's insane mode the gt's going to accelerate zero to sixty in the in the mid three second range. Which will put it comparable to the shelby. Gt five hundred. Which has the giant supercharged v. Eight engine when i drove the machi earlier this afternoon on the auto cross course that one we drove was The rear wheel drive version. And what was interesting about it. Was you know they. They really tuned the suspension field. To give it more of that mustang. Feel so we get some off throttle oversteer. Can you can control the attitude of the car really well with the accelerator pedal the ride quality and this despite the performance capability is actually quite good. It's very comfortable but it's still got really good body control one other aspect does change when you change the drive. Moans is the sound there's the unbridled gives you a little bit more aggressive sound to engage. It's a little bit more toned down and whispered as you would expect. it's very quiet

Automakers Race To Bring Electric Pickup Trucks To Market

"At the moment it is impossible to buy electric pickup. That's about to change though. Automakers from tesla and general motors ford driven and lordstown are all racing to bring them to market. npr's camilla domanski reports if you've been watching automakers promotional videos. You might know that. The hummer ev is a thousand horsepower. Pickup that can turn all four wheels to drive diagonally with no limits no emissions and no equals the electric f. One fifty can toe of freight train the train in a tug of war between a traditional trucking. Tesla's cyber truck or lordstown endurance. The electric pickup wins all these stunts designed to make the case. That in electric pickup truck is a better pickup truck and the potential market here is big the best selling vehicle in the. Us is a pickup. The second best selling vehicle is a pickup. The third also pick pickup. This market is so big and so profitable that even a small portion of it could mean big money. A third of all pickup truck owners are open to the idea of electrification. Alexander edwards is the president of strategic vision. A company that regularly surveys new car buyers. He emphasizes that these aren't definite electric customers but they might be persuadable and crucially. This is a different pool of people thin current vehicle owners. They're not as wealthy. They're less liberal and less interested in the environment or in high tech innovation but they can be swayed by other arguments. They were looking at this electrification of their vehicle to enhance the overall truck. Nece it's that truck nece that automakers are emphasizing and all. Those stunts consider a truck. That's trying to tow a heavy load to get all that weight. Moving requires a lot of low end. Torque a lot of rotational force. Some engines are better at this than other. Engines and electric motors are actually really good at it. They have an advantage over gas or even diesel edwards says that performance edge could persuade some shoppers. Who aren't moved by appeals to save the environment these guys are looking for rugged powerful capable vehicles. The world's governments are pushing toward electric vehicles as part of the fight against climate change. Then many automakers are now convinced. Electric vehicles are the future appealing. Electric pickup trucks could help get the general public on board. Of course some people don't need persuading there are drivers who definitely want an electric pickup. Even before they've had the chance to take one for a spin. Madison grosses the director of consumer insights at cargurus which recently surveyed truck owners. It's really gen. Z and millennials who are driving increased interest in pickups but especially for these younger drivers. Being interested in a vehicle is not the same as being able to afford it. New trucks are already expensive. New full-sized pickups are averaging nearly fifty five thousand dollars and while electric vehicles cost less to operate they are more expensive upfront for the foreseeable future. Anyway they seem kind of unobtainable. Pat turner of baltimore is thirty. He drives a nissan frontier. And he is pretty stoked about the prospect of electric pickups but prices are just insane. Gm came with hammered over one. Hundred thousand dollars at dusk. Affordability has been a big concern for pickup drivers for a while. Turner says he'll keep an eye on electric pickups but probably won't buy one until the prices dropped substantially

America’s Zombie Companies Have Racked Up $1.4 Trillion of Debt

"Zombie apocalypse on wall street. Hundreds of big name companies wants american icons are now among the walking dead names like boeing carnival delta exxon macy's. They aren't making enough money to pay the interest. On the mountains of debt they feasted on during the pandemic. Nearly two hundred companies have joined the zombie ranked since march and their numbers are growing total debt obligations now nearly one point four trillion dollars. So is there any hope for the walking dead here guy. I mean what's interesting. Is that a lot of these names. They are names that we talk about trading on this show. So how should we start thinking about this before we get in the walking dead. I just want to point out. That's a great job by our crack. staff leading. With of course the cranberries zombie which is a bit of an obvious choice in the great delors. Oh reared who lost too soon. She was obviously the founder of the band wonderful vocalist. I might have gone a different direction. And maybe we could've played something like this for example. Melissa leo the crack staff is listening into the show. Why the zombies. No it's important to point out the folks at home. It's more important than actually trading our first topic in what is known as the block of the. It's not it's not more important. And i and we'll talk about the black and we'll talk about zombie companies because i think it's important and last night we mentioned macy's and you talked about one hundred dollars table. Then tim said might be the thousand dollar table. And i think collectively. We thought there was a real good chance that with test that nine fifty five level which was the june high and i think it got up to nine twenty five today on two or three times normal volume. Now's the time to be taking profits. A lotta shorts have been squeezed other companies that you mentioned delta for example. I think that's a completely different ballgame. But what i will say. This counterintuitive is. This may seem if the economy starts to get better. You would think this is good for these companies but that means interest rates economic higher. And that's going to cripple some of these companies. We talked about it last night. And i'm sure one of our guests coming out. We'll talk about that again. Tim how do you start thinking about macy's and that debt that they apparently can't service. I mean when i think about dombi i think about that thriller video and i know guys got that red leather jacket with all the zippers on it. So just just to be clear. I think when i think about those companies you just mentioned they're all they're all different in terms of their Potential to be proper zombies a great band by the way. But i think you know boeing not assam company You know it's not Boeing is a company that has the ability to raise debt. But more importantly yes. Boeing's business has been totally disrupted boeing. His burned through so much cast in the last year. And it will burn through some castro most of twenty-one but it will be free cash flow positive by twenty two in probably be neutral by the fourth quarter so calling them assam company. I think is absurd. Calling macy's zombie company is something that's at least a fair analysis although again macy's showed that free cash flow with something that they expect they're going to have in twenty twenty one two and a company that raised a lot of money To to at least be able to fight another day including having a three billion dollar asset back facility is something you don't do cartwheels over macy's position right now but the recovery there and i'm long so i've made this clear. I actually think there's more of a recovery story even though i don't think macy's gets better overnight. Delta relative to other airlines is not even close to his ambi- story dealt is actually going to start to make money towards the fourth quarter of next year and we're not talking about a normalized business. We're talking about a business where odyssey international comes under a lot of pressure. So i also just think that the fed and the role that the fed is playing here and the role that the fed will play just through talking About the bazooka in their pocket means a lot of these debt markets. Don't have a whole lot of an impact in the next six months To what people think they're gonna do. I really don't expect it so it doesn't matter that these companies zombie companies it doesn't matter that delta added twenty four billion dollars in debt since the pandemic started by baldwin. At what point do we start getting worried about that. Debt load and these companies guy made the point that if the economy gets better you would think that that'd be better for these companies that can make more money they can etc said sell more whatever they make but then interest rates go higher. So how do you weigh that. Yeah those are all interesting. Factors that keep into To keep in the front of your mind. And tim did a good job of laying out the differences of these companies. But speaking to your question right the commonality of all these of these companies that they have as you have looted to have added significant portions of the balance sheet this year and they're burning through cash at a rate and their revenues are down at rates that we just haven't seen we're talking about you know seven and a half billion dollars of cash burn and eighteen billion dollars of casper burn boeing's example seven and a half carnivals example. So you have this push pushing pull situation. What i will say is that you've seen across the board. All these companies put one thing. I right and that is runway. And so they've taken on this debts that they have enough cash to get them to their next stop in order for them to continue to be able to operate what we've seen is them trying to achieve operating leverage by reducing staff count. And that is what. I think the topic that we're kind of trying to speak to. Here's when you start slashing human capital when you stop investing in capital expenditures when you stop innovating that is what leads you to being somewhat of a dead zombie company even after you've getting on the other side of this debt service coverage ratio also something to keep in mind. You can't meet your interest. Can't meet your debt service coverage ratio. You got serious problems dan. Yeah i think bond would makes a great point there and just look at our auto industry over the last ten years and obviously gm came out of bankruptcy ten years and wiped out a lot of that debt but they had a huge government interests that was really carried along and probably hurt them a lot of different ways as far as innovation and the way the bhawan just described it. It's clearly hurt for a lot of ways and look at the auto companies are doing really well right now so i think that's a great point. The other point on this make about this is that this is the world that we live in. It's the world that a lot of parts of our planet have been looking at japan over the last thirty years or whatever and then we are going to be saddled with debt whether it's consumers whether it's sovereign balance-sheets whatever the heck it is corporates. That's just the way it is. And that's why interest rates are really never gonna meaningfully. Go up again. Because we can't service all the debt and just make one other point if you think about twenty twenty and what's happened here. Obviously the fed has done their job. They hit this crisis early to make sure that we did not have large-scale bankruptcies right of some major corporations which would really snowball the unemployment situation here but let me just tell you this here. We are now four months out from expanded unemployment benefits. Were heading into the holiday season. We're in a very rocky transition and a lame duck. Congress and there is no more fiscal stimulus for small businesses and consumers. That need it really bad. So the fact that we have a trillion dollars for a bunch of companies that were buying eighty five percent using their free cash flow to eighty five percent of their free cash flow to buy back their stock over the last five years. The airlines and we can't bail out restaurants so we can't bail out consumers that is really troubling to me. Yeah we're really tough spot right now in terms of that bridge to the other side waiting for that other side for the vaccines actually be distributed and as well as injected into the arms of americans

Real-time pricing could help keep EVs from burdening the grid

"Electric vehicles can help reduce carbon pollution from transportation. But as more people transitioned to vs charging a lot of cars could burden the electrical grid. Kate york is with the nonprofit citizen to tilde board. It's going to be really costly if we don't do this in a smart way if lots of eib drivers are charging their cars in the middle of a hot summer day when many people are also running. The ac utilities may need to fire up backup power plants to meet the extra demand. Those backup plants are often older more costly to run and highly polluting so to encourage customers to use electricity at off peak hours. Some utilities have started offering. What's known as real time pricing plans. They charge customers less for the electricity. They use when demand is low for example at night that can help utilities. Avoid using backup power plants and research shows that in illinois. Ev drivers with real time pricing plans would cut the supply portion of their bills by more than half so for electric vehicle owners. This is an excellent way to promise savings and then also make sure that people are charging their electric vehicles overnight which is going to be the smart way to go about the future transportation.

GMC's All-Electric Hummer Pickup Highlights GM's New Strategy on EVs

"General Motors He's helping a name from the past will give its latest electric power truck a bit of a boost, CBS Automotive reporter Jeff Gilbert tells the Wcbm noon business. Our GM is bringing back the name Hummer for its new electric pickup truck. Even though he says the original Hummer had less than impressive sales. Gilbert says the name Homer still carries a great deal of value. The Hummer name still resonates like I talk to somebody, an analyst who did some research and if you take a look at the old Hummers, there's still they still have twice the resale value ofthe current vehicles from that euro. Which kind of kind of blew me away when I found out about that. Gilbert says GM hopes advertising the new Hummer during the world. Siri's will give the electric pick up a higher profile and show General Motors is a competitive player in the electric vehicle category.

New charging stations help EV owners road-trip

"Many people appreciate the environmental benefits of electric cars but they may hesitate to buy one because they worry that the cards battery might run a power on long trips. We realized early on to to convince drivers to consider even is daily driving car you needed to be able to go anywhere you wanted at any time. That's wing Killin of electrify America. The company is creating to friendly corridors by installing charging stations along major east west highways. One runs from Washington DC to Los Angeles another from Jacksonville to San Diego should be complete by the end of the year. The charging stations on these routes will be about seventy miles apart well within the range of most electric vehicles. So Ev drivers can more easily travel state to state or even across the country and they'll charging times or not as quick as filling up with gas killing expects most drivers will spend less than thirty minutes powering up because obviously you don't want to stop and wait hours when you're on a say a five, hundred mile trip for charge up. So he says the new charging routes will help drivers feel more confident that they can get where they're going without running out of power.

Boris Johnson wants to 'Build Back Greener'

"Know at the top of the show we heard how British Prime Minister Boris Johnson promised to build back greener, and it's have you that the International Monetary Fund subscribes to ahead of the annual meeting in Washington. This month the IMF told its member governments. They can create millions of jobs and boost recovery prospects if they use higher public investment to respond to the severe economic challenge posed by Corona virus well, actually brought he's a climate and energy reporter at Bloomberg News joins me now to discuss this. Actually what is a green recovery and why do economists think it's the right way out of the current recession. Typically economists are looking to be able to create jobs in times of recession, and it happens in two phases. After an immediate shock economists inject a lot of money into the system to be able to allow for rescue. So a lot of people will become conservative of won't go out and spend money or they may lose their job and may not be able to make the rent next month or the mortgage next month. and. So you need to do the rescue. I what comes after that is once the economy starts to get out of the bottom and needs to go up. That's recovery comes in and what economists find is that for about every million dollars that a public money that is spent you can create between two and ten jobs. In the infrastructure space and that is why IMF has come out with the statement. This week saying that if government spend a lot of money on infrastructure than they are going to create a lot of jobs and a lot of jobs good for the economy Chris here is that they wanted to be green infrastructure because we want a lot of green infrastructure going forward. Are Any countries actually doing this. They are what happened early on is that we had to wait to get a signal from these countries to understand whether they've moved on from the rescue as into recovery. When the earliest countries to do it was Germany Germany put out a one hundred, thirty billion euro package that was all tied to green infrastructure. So renewable electricity, clean hydrogen subsidies for electric vehicles, EV charging networks and this has been then followed up by the EU which has put five hundred billion euros. Now, we're going to expect that as you talked about Boris Johnson that will expect some of that money coming through in the UK as well, and if Joe Biden President, he has a promised that he will push for green recovery in the US. What. Then would agree in recovery look like. So in in. Principle the thing that has changed from the last financial crisis is that this time around alternatives to fossil fuels are actually cheaper and governments will used the money that they have in hand to be able to spend that money into projects like renewable energy. But also things that we've probably not spend money on for a long time but we. Should be so that would be either repairing roads and bridges are really retrofitting homes with more energy. Efficient windows are ceilings so that you can reduce your energy bills, these old sound set of boring things, but they are really important to be able to cut emissions, but also bring in lots and lots of jobs, and that's exactly what we need right now Just cookie on Boris's bars Johnson's plan. How realistic is that? It's it's very realistic. So one of the things that has changed you know the big promise he has made is about building lots and lots of off-shore wind turbines. Offshore Wind was considered extremely expensive probably ten years ago and it's It's prices have come down and it's costs down really rapidly partially because we've been subsidizing subsidizing here in the UK. But also generally across Europe the deployment of these technologies and what we. Know again from economists, is that new technologies follow something called a learning curve for every doubling off the amount of the technology deployed out in the field you get a certain reduction in cost, and so the foster deploy it, the foster costs fall and what bars Johnson has recognized is offshore wind is now ready for the big time

SEC to examine Nikola over short seller's fraud allegations

"We start with some breaking news on Nikola shares they are down in the after hours that follows a big update Bloomberg reporting that the Securities and Exchange Commission will examine Nikola over the short showing fraud allegations stock down seven and a half percent right now guide Your response to that news. Again it probably Brian. Thanks for being here. Again, I can't speak, and I said this last week try to be a little clearer. Now, I can't obviously speak to the veracity of the short soul report accusations of fraud I have no idea what I did say last week, and what I'll stand behind is despite how the GM investment is structured whether they are actually investing money for the deal is structured fact that GM is somehow it linked. Their wagon to Nikola and if these accusations proved to be correct I, think the really deleterious thing could happen in shares of GM based solely on that not because it's just two billion dollars but the in my opinion, the potential for an exponential move based on that and based on the fact that maybe GM potentially didn't do the homework that are the people did that would be my primary concern right now as I look at this entire situation. and Tim to be clear on the story and I know we're GONNA. We're trying to fill up here. Any moment is that you don't Trevor Milton said the other day we're going to basically work with the SEC I wanna be clear according to the Bloomberg report. That's not what this is. This appears that the SEC is now poking into Nikola baby on not on the side of the short seller. But certainly from that angle, this is not some cozy deal between the two going after Hindenburg. No I think ultimately, the the SEC is going to do what they feel is just based upon both again allegations of fraud and actual fraud and investigating what was represented to investors I mean there's there's whether the technology is what it is and guys brought up some important elements of this that I don't I don't think we can know based upon even even if we read that entire report again, this needs to be validated or invalidated. The fact that the company has come out today and said, well, you know we said that it was. That the company was was was was excuse me that the truck was moving as opposed to it was actually individually propelled by our own engine etc I mean you know there's some some really frankly. that. BET semantic hair that's trying to be split here I think is is crazy I mean that doesn't sound good that certainly doesn't sound like something you'd rest. Well, we weren't really you know indicating that we were. We were on our own individual propulsion. So I think you know that doesn't read well. I to me GM the the issue was did this validate some of their fuel cell technology and some of their overall engineering prowess and did the deal makes some sense when you consider that unlike others Nikola was going with an asset light strategy and seeking to at least tap into engineering and we? Capacity that all makes sense. The fact that Jim got this for free was going to be paid seven hundred million dollars for access to some of their technology. I don't think this is necessarily harmful to GM. If this all turn to be a disaster for Nikola I think the fact of the matter is GM is pointing out that they have been in this space for a long time and I, think there's a lot there. Well it Dan Listen. That's the Tim. Actually hit on the one thing in the rebuttal that stuck out to me as well which is yeah. The truck may not have run on its own, but all the parts Kinda worked on their own but together didn't really matter because we're going to pivot to something else. Anyway there's a lot of pivoting going on Nikola and I wonder if investors should just pivot away from the stock because they don't know how this is going to end up. Well I think that's the main point. We just don't know we talked about this on Thursday. The stock was trading about thirty, eight hundred already had a big down day on the day before after that report came out my comment was okay. Well, there was two opportunities, the vet this story and I was a bit Glib about and so I said, you know there probably isn't fraud here. I had a very prominent short seller hit me after the fact on tax and say be careful here this is well documented and devastating I spent some time reading it the rebuttal there was really nothing there from Mykola and I think that's a pretty interesting. Story I'll just make one point and one of the reasons why I made that comment on Thursday I've been in this business for twenty five years. You know if you WANNA create some sort of scheme to rip people off of lots of money doing it in the public eye in front of know financial TV investors who are very well incentivized a sniff it out, and then no shortage of regulatory bodies. It's just not the best place to do it. So that's my first reaction often but who knows here, this seems like a really creepy situation and you know when you don't understand something you just avoid. Yeah, I think that's well setting care and I want to reiterate the news in case audience is just joining us here that the according to Bloomberg is now going to investigate at least sort of at a top level. The allegations of fraud against Nikola made by the short seller doesn't mean they're going to find anything and if they find anything, it may not. Be Serious and it could have some sort of an easy resolution as well. Just because the SEC goes poking around companies doesn't mean there's a negative outcome and I think that's very important to be said but on forget Nikola Karen is there any reason ever invest in the stock of a company where the even sniffing around? Maybe it does create some weird opportunity. Well I guess I point to Tesla the SEC. Sniffing around when they the statements about you know financing secured when when musk wanted to take private for four hundred and twenty dollars a share I guess that would have been one scenario but I agree with the guys on the panel that this particularly this issue of it was whether it was self propelled. We never said it was certainly one could reasonably assume that investors looking at that would think. That trump is going on its own. It just makes you think. All right. What else are they do? They have out there in the market that you know what are they sort of presenting that might not be actually as it appears this is a black eye for GM I'm GonNa Guess that maybe this deal falls apart I think GM I think is one of the guys said they didn't actually up any money it was the putting resources into advancing their. Ev Platform. But this this is a black guy for them. It's bad for them and I'm going to guess that this deal falls apart. We'll very quickly Karen and want to come back to number one on the propulsion sort of issue. Well, let's not forget the Financial Times. Did it's reporting a few days ago that they said they talked to a cameraman who said trump just basically rolled down the hill I think probably all of us that our worst moments of roll down a few hills once in a while after you too many. Let's move aside for that Karen. You think that if this comes out as a worst case scenario could GM's CEO Mary Barra lose her job. That I don't know I, mean imagine it. I. Would think the board probably not delighted by this It it it kind of I mean, maybe they did do their due diligence. Maybe they did know all of the points that were in that extensive short report, which I only read a little bit of to be to be fair did not read the entire thing and that they went through every single thing seemed okay. That's a bit of a stretch for me to believe. So I think the stock had rallied on that on the deal so it would be reasonable to You know I'm going to sell some stock I think. This is a black guy for them and for her and I think she's fantastic but. she is. Go out on religion meeting her and interviewing her and Mary Barra is is a class act all around guy but GM shares are moving on this news not a lot but they are down about one and a half percent and listen Y- again, and there's a lot of if and maybe you don't want to go too much down that rabbit hole you. So adroitly said very much of the top there but it is a difficult situation for GM and its investors when literally a couple of working days after you announce a big deal, basically one full week, you got the SEC poking around the company that you just kind of. GOT INTO THE BOARDROOM WITH Yeah I mean it's concerning again we I and we're all trying to be really careful here because obviously you know none of us know where the trews are and where they're not. But again, I want to emphasize if there's any truth whatsoever. In. Knows Ninety pages of that short sell report I think it's really believe it or not I think it's more of a negative for GM potentially that it is for nickel I know that sounds ridiculous but people will say how could you possibly got into whatever agreement it is whether it's a Deal whether it's just a collaboration thing whatever it is how do you partner up with a potentially something that isn't what they said it is to me that's a really scary notion and I think that's sort of the tail risk that GM is facing right now and obviously you know we're not wishing for this. I think we're just trying to point out what could happen and that sort of our jobs here.

Carmakers rev up electric truck, SUV production

"You, see them everywhere nearly fifty percent of all vehicles sold in the US, our sport utility vehicles the International Energy Agency reports SUV's are second only to electric power for the increase in greenhouse gas emissions in the last decade. But there are a new wave of all electric SUV's and trucks is coming and these new vehicles may be more powerful and boasted longer driving range than many of today's gas-powered SUV's trucks. So, how quickly will high tech these take hold in the next decade Chelsea Sexton is an electric car advocate and consultant hi. Chelsea their quick. Sketch here, how close are we to the next wave of electric vehicles and what will their capabilities be? We're going to start to see more of them in the next year or two obviously things are slightly influx with the pandemic but most of the automakers are still trying to be within a few months of their original targets and we're seeing everything from plug in hybrid jeep wrangler with thirty miles of electric range for around town driving and. Gasoline after that, all the way up to f one, fifty and riven with a few hundred miles of expected range and I'm interested in that F one fifty story because that Ford truck is the top selling truck in America I think there were nine hundred thousand f-series trucks sold last year and I see that they're retooling a factory in Michigan to build the first all electric f one fifty. What do we know about that role? Not very much. We're expecting it late twenty, twenty, one, early twenty, twenty, two something to that effect and they've not released really any specs other than videos of hauling trains and things to try to prove that electric vehicles really do have as much more performance than gasoline trucks, what other electric pickups SUV's Few years I'm watching all of them. There still are some open questions about everyone of them in that most vs today of any model have been sold only in California or the carb states owens have mandates requiring evt's there's not that many vehicles that are available across the country, and that will be a huge thing to prove what the trucks regarding who's serious, and WHO's not. That's an open question for folks like Ford, will they make these things in volume and sell them nationwide and really get behind them with the marketing and dealer support or is this going to be more of what we refer to as a compliance car which is basically Will sell as many as we have to in the places we have to, but not really in it with their hearts well, and part of the answer to that might be consumer attitudes. Right? I mean you helped launch an electric vehicle for GM back in the nineties. Have you seen consumer attitudes change in that time and if they changed enough to bring in the truck SUV drivers ironically that generation in the nineties had more trucks than SUV's in it than than small cars everyone knows the ev one that was the one I was involved in but Chevy and Ford made pickups at the time and Honda and Toyota made small SUV's so it's Sort of feels like we're yanking the automakers back toward where they started. There's still a lot of education that's needed. There are lots of people that are not even aware of electric vehicles, but in part that's because they've never seen one and they've never been available and so people can't buy what they don't know as even possible. So there's a lot of education required on that front but the interesting thing about electric vehicles in general is that it is the only example in the history of the automotive industry in which the industry itself has required demand to predate and continually exceeds supply. What. That sounds like is every time you hear it automaker executive say when we see demand for electric cars will start to build them. So it's always been the market polling for from the automakers versus the automakers trying to build their own market for something. So it's a parallel. Yes. Of course, we need to do more education, but we also need to start building things that people can see our else. They're never going to be aware of them in want to buy one. What about the politics of this? How much do you see that playing into the success of the next generation of truckin SUV models I mean we'll some people just not wanNA drive one because of their political beliefs it's possible however. The irony is that there has always been a fair amount of right wing support for electric vehicles because they use domestic energy, they keep more money in the local economy. We're not sending money overseas before an oil, and so it doesn't always get talked about in this administration because the politics kind of ebb and flow depending on the administration but there is a fair amount of conservative support and they're not just sort of this liberal technology that they're made out to be. So all politics tend to be kind of transient and. I've watched it shift back and forth over the years. So I don't expect the current politics will be permanent But at the same time, this has always been if not politically driven certainly policy driven it is those external incentives and mandates that have helped compel with the advocates and market asking for them electric vehicles for twenty five years, and it will probably remain. So for the next several at least are there any other barriers you see to electric truck an SUV sales? The single biggest barrier today is lack of product. The second biggest is lack of marketing and awareness and education and people not being able to buy what they don't know about and the third biggest dealerships across the board with any EV model if dealers aren't comfortable and wanting to sell vs they're not going to be successful at it, and so we can put billions of dollars into those first two things. But at the end of the day, if someone walks into a Ford dealer in his told well now, you'd really rather have the gasoline f one, fifty, not the electric one that one's Kinda goofy. All of that money and effort is wasted what about the pace of change and I know we're focused on electric vehicles today on the transportation emissions but overall with climate emissions I mean you you live in California you've been watching this for decades. We've got these terrible fires in California and Oregon this week are we moving fast enough now? We're not and that is not a widespread enough opinion yet. But regardless of why they come to the table, the best thing we can do is make more options available and attractive. So it doesn't matter if someone is coming to an AV because of climate change or air pollution or any other reason if they're coming for Torque and horsepower I'm fine with that. The goal is to build more of the table as we have more seats at it not be so concerned about why people come and sit down I'm all about the Torque and horsepower Chelsea, Sexton electric-car advocate and consultant. Thanks so much for sharing your perspective on climate cast today. Thank you for crash your party

"We could cool something when we don't want to be both cool anything out because we will avoid I'm the limitations since we will fit some people all you could've you could've another twenty kilowatt the bachelor in the front but that was never anything in front in the first place so putting putting the potentially dangerous batteries in the front of the vehicle in the crash lands is really not recommended and it's also about the sort of the way distribution rights so it's handled properly and doesn't go sideways when you're when you when you call them or whatever so I am the last question for my for my listeners actually Is there any any chance you could do? Or have you looked into extending the range of existing vs a kind of goes into your pre previous. I suppose but the people that have done it to leave since If not the thing we have looked into a will look into it. the issue we find with them is the the the heavens continually do updates so as much as you might bring a reindeer android. Pay For a two thousand fourteen minutes. I leave. You might find two thousand fifteen two thousand sixteen. They've made a change the cameras messaging. And then you've Redo will guns I think it is possible to do. The Rangers have seen it done. It's just how you do it safely because these calls were never going to have a second battery pack To how do you maintain it? How'd you Reggie mounted to? How would you tap into the with system? This quite a lot of things. How do you do that? And it's safe manner without jeopardizing the car. Still under warranty or so. So how'd you make reversible? Doesn't that warranty just so many And you tend to find that. String on the for instance. The is an older techno rainy. Sandra and I will tell him no because why not. Just go and buy a battery pack from a new on these. I'm it in your family. And then have someone upgrade the software. Because Nathan didn't change the phone talked about trade dot externally. They just changed the internals. You tend to find all the oldness on the East without your visually digital identical. All the way through some of the new stopping at least on these. They've just improved the battery chemistry inside so very they are interchangeable. There's only certain. Companies have software and stuff. Do WITH BUFF. That starts an option. I think that people should look at before they go into looking at adding a range. Tendering suppose actually look. Can you just do a upgrade of the original pack impact? How you package size. Because we have been some relief and won't quite few farms and has lots of companies from eastern Europe usually Coming up on those forums and advertising that they They the they'll have the happy to replace the Battery Park. I don't know how we do drive the car of their back but different matter. Maybe they're hoping that there's somebody from local area who who would be interested but the Within the three as well so BMW. I three different bound track but basically the same just soccer popular. Some of the that she offered. I think Bmw offered about backup quite for a short period of planes. It'd be of Sunday removing it. Yeah so I think that will be the price after I think people will go through or work on rather than sticking another country in the boot or something and then trying to find a way of connect the in your system Because you really careful about us At the same chemistry discharge rates and stuff because if you stick a pack in Newark unconditional power low quicker than you end up with big issues on one. Pipe fifteen quicker than the other Was like a temperature issues. And you also GonNa make sure when you can at least passing because you're going to be put in power to be the same voltage when you you can't just stick the other pocket and whenever you want even if one nearly seen when full can you just yeah the balance between each other and I didn't potentially you could have a huge file risk. So that's some big big concerns as people have got very careful I would always say. Trial upgrades packed with in the Physical Car. Rather than putting a a secondary pack. In if you can help it. Yeah it's kind of like when you buy a trinkets for your house or whatever got AA. Batteries always says in the instructions. Do not make the buttery from different manufacturers. It's the same thing on or but on on a much much scale basically. Yes yeah yeah take a back to back one at the new charge at the twenty one charge that some twenty five votes new connect and empower gonNa try and balance themselves. Pretty quickly with So yeah not. The risk is balancing rate. Unless you unless you a system in place between them to manage balancing slowly dissipate is charged across the boundaries. Then find out how people do anyway to say we call boundaries ones Lower Ohio and the other who charge apple or discharge. One balancing for you. Put you in parallel so that you have to. Do you have to make sure you're able pack you. Know W voltage. We'd if you do that but now it's nothing. We recommend. We recommend that she upgrading the packet. So it's happened repacking. I think famously Robert Llewellyn recently has said that his original Japanese builds an will get a forty kilos our park now because they can just slaughtered in. I think the the only difference is the with the sixty to cloud our. It's there's a slight difference in in the way the size of it but I don't know enough details to To to say whether you know I know they've changed the puck internally whether that changes on the outside on also hopefully now because they obviously much manufacturing perspective it's easier for them just to make it a replaceable component. Enough you find a lot of the area other than lock to carry about making rapid change but you think VW missiles any of those biggest company. They will try and maintain the same PAP design externally as long as they possibly become because they had just one development one of machining tooling. They will try and maintain that same time. Same pack long as they be kind of course as many mold possible. And I'm just great the internal batteries who the hoses will continue to. And then that will be the way that people can. Just they have that choice and can't the way upgrade. Just my pack on my car or do I buy a new car But with easies with the efficiency and the the depend true mileage they can do in a lifetime. You think like a task can muddle three times. You could do a million miles you know so you know at that point. You're not gonNA WANNA be just changing your car. You'll shrink pack. A bigger pack in the new comes out. But it's definitely gonNA be huge market pulled out moving forward Right now maybe. The demands is quite high enough As you said it's going to be very limited companies. I think in the future in the next five ten years you might find a proper three companies that all they do is factory upgrades older vehicles and people go that I cost cost has got them down and the OEM's of God she starts selling those packs to those companies as well but along the because because they want people buying new cars that going to be the taking on spice. Yeah I suppose on this on leave. It becomes an issue as I know from my own experiences because the the battery pack is not Cooled or there's no temperature management's on the buttery puddle so solvency degrade slightly Quicker than say Tesla would So you know. My battery pack is like eighty nine percent off. Eighty eight percents State of health after fifty thousand miles and a tesla or what are called would have probably been well. I know it would be better off because they are of got. I've got sometimes we have right food. So it's you know figure with the Nippon's was the charging yes it was the childhood. Charleston matured into a non time to control bunch. Pack so that was destroyed the discharge rates. When long as were they tend degrees and stuff you know GonNa do treat? Your damage is out that conduct charging at low temperatures have fifty can the whatsoever. It was out for the. Did you find the Nissan Leaf? I didn't have to. They did so with the three point. Three can charge or whether it was the chance in. That car will be way health than any others. You'll find just because I've not charging okay. Yeah intr- interesting. Because I I've I've heard people saying that the it's kind of you know finding the right balance so people views Chatham Oh to kind fix the State of health safety discharge and charge rapidly the Battery Park few times on the trip right. Now kind of balances the puck better and it comes back But I'd we were they. Were they selling the cars without Chatham? Oh in the UK at all. I thought it was a US. That was a couple that team but many very very for someone that how China using the they have the relief of the Paul Ryan Towncar and they would never actually need to charge and they just park up and throughout the house charge there. So yes I it will choice. I am so on on the subject of rob charging. And do you fits Toss charging rapid charging plugs. Gno In cars of you convince and how you know to do that. For most of the Kara is kind of us. This choice basically a new choice so the system we use a Chimichanga to off late from the tool The rose that component charging wise recently been CCS software for the is ridiculous however complicated It's a pain. I met so many companies just struggling to try and get something to work. Bcs Why We have just started working on the Seattle. So because we've forward of waiting for someone to come up with the CCS solution it's GonNa it's a lot work to do it I might have something but maybe longer bus Dhabi when CCS comes along Be I mean they don. Customer's always most concerned. More to worry. Sometimes do point. Kind of what charge do eleven kilowatts twenty two kill? Ac chargers instead If space allows them saying the fast charging not just the attitude onto customers proctoring law to even need it and I even think if two hundred mile range wow they need starting especially the classic never going to do that. Many miles yes go to the middle classic. Another one that stopped quite surprised over the The original engine would probably break down every hundred miles anyway so the than they used to know. Driving fire for safety basically exotic economy. I mean one thing that's in the back of my mind is when will the manufacturers stock fitting? Ac.

"So I I dunno Pesci but the you know If you love the way it is it's one of those can get you in. And you know I I know people who have Nastassja the car or who had won the pass House and the you know ten years loan role five years on. They bought themselves a used one. Just because they liked it and it's just a they. I have two younger and they just something about it. Just the handling of it the fun of it how it drives and very much it. Pretty lightweight car Which we're trying to keep it that way to get we'll see that's the I said it's another one those. These people have got real patron for Definitely I think they will be one of the future happily convert comes down because the debris down that we've are I am. I have to say you guys are very brave for doing this. Kind of openly You know whether it's going to go. I'm I'm sure you're you're you're on the honest to succeed but if but if anything goes wrong in the process you know you and you're going to have to be like well the thing that I a episode forum she gonNa have to revert or whatever. It's very brave to this open. Because like you said do convert things and then just kind of show you the preparation and then the final stage and anything. That goes in between as just left over. I do. I do like watching and talking to who who are happy to share their experiences. Because that's where the What they interesting stuff happens. Basically and we we look different safety side of it because no shares inflation after when olive doing it the I why is waning. Little bit though read a bit online. They'll be all they'll see they'll take video online of another doing it. The problem is not say not there. Why did it wrong but chances Dr another day I was doing it and then another day always cooking that person's they haven't done it necessary to this that regulation so it gets more down to more downside. We're thinking when if we actually cover it from a commercial site Than people might pick up on those bits and try and we're GonNa Make Elizabeth Debatable Doc. The other thing is we'll make especi- the proper bud vase available the proper connector proper cooling place to try and make everything available that we're using. The people can do exactly the same way if they want to. The option is there a bunch allows obviously No the correct way of doing and then hopefully. They won't trip too much when they do it themselves. So we say trying to nickelback so on that Subjects on the subject of the cost. The the if you go to the contact form on your website the first thing and says you know all the conversions are about twenty five thousand pounds or more are coming to the the exact wording. Why do you think these things are so expensive and get loads of people actually ask about prison people asking you? Can I do it for ten grand or five grand rain? We've got there is because I was bored of getting hundreds of the House of people that were never going do it. Just run to me like the idea and pulling off the question but actually they could never. I didn't know how busy we are. I think the only people Afghan these random question might do in. That is just over. Move she do the customer service correctly. The people of Syria I mean for instance the the key we use the hype benign kit with the algae pack that we using stuff mean dot still by eighteen grand part bit money without probably say twenty five percent of the time you build about Japan and you all the bracket Donald WIRING. You're at twenty five grand quite quickly when she got she. Bill INTO FOOD BOAT IN SYSTEMS. I mean like a Porsche Kitson since I think our Tortilla eight thousand plus of course. Yeah we not brand new components and we've got. I think we need to be working on for eight months. There's a lot of Man Hours. A lot of development wind going into it to make everything in And that's when you break down what you you. You get all your braking system to power steering your tracks. It's every single item not just Motorola tree. It's everything is both and forty hours. You compete you can porsche thing. That's all the way that's up And it depends on vehicles. Also Porsche engine rebuild Porsche. Nine nine six four grand for these engine rebuilt so when you take that into account and then go I can spend a little bit more and have not have patron and again rebuilt again and multiple millions of you when you wake up with changes that does need to be. There won't be something more budget coming in to. The chief bagels twice. But it'd be nice but currently the batteries and motor doctors. Don't allow for that. I mean it's still cheaper than buying a new parsh- Or even you know two years old post keep become a Bahamas you paid for yours couple of guns just to buy a Porsche with with engine. That was of I. Eight eight eight hundred pounds. I think eighteen hundred. Quit if you talk that up if you fifty grand onto province. That's still pretty decent price for you. Know a classic or a report with the electric drivetrain. Yeah I mean not the end batch. Five hundred brake horsepower was things over two hundred Mile Range. The fat charging Pleat costing gauges the have nots. Like of you know the highest quality conversion so things. Should we say with the whistles where they'll see? The will be a quantity but it won't have charging one hundred mile range so that's awesome. There's different tiers We are trying to get the lower again really for things like minis and stuff where you can have a lot. You know you can maybe get down to fifteen thousand pounds for button kit. That's what we want to get down to some of the older classics but what we've tended to find now is the the built about trees are not helping. Because they're now building Sell to pack rather than so the module. Pack that going in style straight talk. The issue is not means action. A much as people seem to think it's going to be loaded about Japan coming available to diy conversions. There's no because you don't use them. You're going to have to strip these packing pop. They basically issues that task the windows out to pack. I will tell me away from the modules because it's just another part with knowledge is not necessary. Now I think will model. Three buttery packs are pretty much already. Just a single. I mean they're modules in there but they're all different and the and the whole thing is just the filled with resin so it's four four modules teenagers thing and to to And then if you lift them out of the pack then there's no rigidity too there really flexible plastic fight but you've got to build them into another solid ball of course And like not like on the mobile APP in light the algae batteries. They actually don't removable. Bmx sports that you can take off military housing eight shouldered on the fort and the only way of not actually hacking the software on the board. Which is people doing So yeah they've really things to come is only gonNA get worse. Basically I mean the the cells are supposed to last forever so they obviously don't want people to take them apart. They want them to use it as a battery. Pack under the HIGL. Where's the models is like a? You know a the heaven you can just open it up and remove things and replace things and it's the best thing ever. Yeah it's not it's not mustered up thing like both the molecular more expensive vehicle too long to build for them whereas the model trays. How quickly can we build this Which is how. Cheap Nick Me. Vote and that that approach and the manufacturers would go that route B W I think we'll be required quickly. Tobago's want to be bunch. Get THE PRICES OUT. So yeah as much different things we're going to be boundaries. Load the batteries appearance. That just probably not going to be useful on easily usable anyway. Should be the issue. Okay interested Oh we can. We can talk about what's going on. In into converting a cartoon Levi but I'm sure annual. You know like briefly if I can summarize a you have you bugliosi stripping down all the drivable components of the car. So you drive the engine transmission and your Fuel tongue obviously. But then you have to replace just the not just the engine with moderate after the battery pack but also the other things in a in a regular ice that are actually driven the engine like conditioning or power stealing then you have to replace the electric version or you know some something different. Is there anything I missed? That goes into you. Conversion of also made it sound very easy but if you look at easily because you everything down into components I mean. You know you'll sell let engineer. You might look at something if the Hughes time as soon as you break it down into bit Bob While you were trying to do it broken down properly people in sections today. We're going to look the motorcycle up next when we went. Look at just about truth. The DO ENTER INTO BITE. Size pieces basically Educated Engineering Gearbox. He will systems yes. You need to maintain power steering Right vacuum but that's done on twelve if they can trust outbreak. Vacuum pump the reservoir. It's a twelve volt power steering pump. You get from Earth G. and walks through those use them Air Conditioning you can run a high-voltage AC pump where you can run a twelve oh AC is a is now he's in the right place with no been no big issues to renting An eating you need to replace eat tomatoes with a PC heater the bigger top. 'cause you bought she. Go pull the dashboard. I get the he's Matrix to replace it with a different one but the problem at the Mexican Began I mean in Layman's terms. Yeah class isn't moving one law park and the other one application where it goes into it on that the ideal again. That's just going all what you could have freed up the Gabe. No couldn't face it. Yeah I've got space but the Space Sarah's.

"They got stuck and I just carried on Because you know we don't need the We don't need the the oxygen to run. The engine. Light is just. It's if it's done properly. It's all concealed than should be watertight them but we're GONNA go back to the the MVP conversions and sells about the. How did you yourself come across you driving at the moment? Or what is your connection to to this sort of to the world I was doing custom. Vehicles was started doing stupid. Things like White Body Audi R eight And then a I got a cool one day to someone on. You had a tax laws. Droid at come in to do so. I just randomly off the cuff. But I'll play with it. Then I hunted. How do I get into work? hunting around town around and then came across. Kevin shot on Damien Maguire. Which you probably here saying because the in Slavic so stuff The we came across each other and Kevin. Between Buck came to me. I will the customer done so I did. I built the battery packs and everything when I do myself and at that point that's when I weep be bid out how I go into it We were very closely with the open-source community for probably year. And a half as well as we funded law funding fundamental to do that development. How to grow with the task control boards and lots of stuff Always within the agreement that we grant Whittlesey with end up with our own dark commercial version was such that we use which we developed further afterwards. We get up. We all support back in April. And that's what we into really we. We started I saw. That was where we started. And we we still taking souls We have actually just been doing the outlander Moser's when the TV's we've just got them and spinning an older consoles. We'll be consoles to the I. Wires because you can pick those up extremely cheap today should not the market matthew people when they come out. I'm bill will be doing that on our Youtube Channel and showing the you know. Here's here's a major on his by the parts from the cheap cars by just because we're we're not going to damage our customer base by how can come Adele. Why we conclude wouldn't come up in the first place just we are a bit more high end on component cough. But yeah it's amazing. How many Hybrids and Peach vs which are hybrids essentially They've got pretty powerful muddle maters. They usually very heavy cars. Say the converting. Something light like Like a Porsche or you know. That's fairly light without the engine. You can just put a but an motor like that just to have run around. I'm sure I'm wrong somewhere on that. But the but yeah you're doing the PVA Mitsubishi's. I think both motors and seventy eight to kill each that the more than any got under twelve hundred. That is GONNA shift with one with just one of those majors. It's pretty good especially for the right Gary as well. That should be quite. We're actually putting some into the back of the page in. Running twitty filled on youtube is going to be One hundred horsepower or New Jersey Guy. I know who loved us? I don't know if you know the Kate James On vk came down some much guidelines okay. He's he's got. He's got a connection in history with Twinsies so he would love to be in the Akwa into I built might actress Scotland with the by. That's why I go by go. An author Scott is still doing the rounds. Sponsors talking about those demos and different troyer is use it different events Good will be last year and different stuff. They're docile without the car. I built like South Personal Socar Bays not readily got anymore. It's now just full of racetrack. Strips knew nothing about it And then we've just the electric Porsche boxster. But she's GonNa be my daily driver. Just they got the malls only to password prospects with just the new software on a new product About fifty Monday commute for this all waste. Which is the model on the system? quickey pocket without the guy and the like What once you've converted a in driving car that's on daily basis. How the competitive. Just a a a regular Both the Carter you buy you know like a navy like if I bought a new leaf. What does the comparison in like day to day driving the same? So we can do peto breaking news on the just the the miles adjusted. Lots of stuff shallan. I enjoy just moving. Nobody does I think the benefit with things about the portion stuff is they will build a handle and to be high-performance so the benefit those Electric System and you maintain that increase that you've got really good marry well defined base and medical whereas I will say a lot of the vs on the market now would not designed for about the evening attack. The military handled pretty good. But they weren't designed like porsches were designed they weren't the the you know handle stupide good in corners Well they are but it's untrue onboard electric. He's not mechanical. Not Physical Mechanical. So when you take the classics that were designed for the most. The bulk star handles like the poorest. But it got the electric. It's as weird especially on country roads because you can check with hair life everything big this box. These six to six in the back of it something away. It's like normally but I quite I think for buying a new because he's still got. I think I the classics most people some sort of childhood tied to them. Like I love my first cars fulfill that but they have their first car again because it's unreliable and that's where actually people can have their first car again. All the cars. They had wind like twenty thirty years ago. I Don t have one and a half it reliable so I think a big big concern law people do that have that old classic that Brings Back Memories. you've got mail every now and again something go well if you spend to convert. I'm as you go and buy new cars like well if that's what you WANNA do fine but we will miss the point. It's not about having a new car. It's not having an old car with memories and quirks and having fun not just having an aide to be but the the issue will be more reliable right. It's not GonNa be you know going to get you. The some people like the sort of the tweaking. The the engine. Encino opening the buttons Do Changing the oil in that. I've got a neighbor here Who's got some sort of an old what it is actually No the like an old classic car he just pulls out every Sunday literally drive down road to the to the shelter and back and an puts it back in and that's all he does in the car But you know Did you get you get a Lotta People Being surprised by the By your Your Posh Pink quiets or g get owners kind of you know enquiring about us. Yeah it's bit of a mix that you said about your neighbor like the reason the joys Sundays probably not reliable enough into drive every day. That's normally what it is. That's what we tend to find people who have got the nice classic. They weren't driving because of they. WanNa put up Muslim. The engine because the fourteen to rebuild them without some stuff so It's cool. I suppose is still very much very mixed mixed community coming coming around to it now Like for instance the AMEX. That was very much. Didn't know how people are GonNa take out because I could have gone one way or the other quick with the Pie but everyone actually is on board and even the people that don't like it the like it because the amount of engineering and the development of Suffolk going into it. Then they still got a love hate relationship with close. 'cause these people that do the colonel in the cars as much don't like the identity when they see the amount of work that goes into it and the design of it. They can't not be interested in because they like being humble like tinkers. Let yourself being an engineer thing. You probably won't even if you sit on the bench by when you see the I think it gets people excited and they just want to let it all one of those. Because that's kind of you know people love them and if you had one in the past. I I never one..

When Car Companies Help In Times of Crisis

"Welcome to car stuff folks, thanks for tuning in I am. What of Your Host Ben? Bolan and I am Kurt Gerron and like many of us in the world today a Kurt and I are recording remotely from our separate bunkers tower. Good Pal, the Walter Jesse Pink Ben. Scott Benjamin couldn't make it today, but as well and sends his regards Kurt. I want to check in before we get started. How are you doing man? How how long have you been? In this lockdown stage, I guess about three three and a half weeks now they've been well the. Just hanging in there like many people out there. How about you been I've been you know I've been doing pretty well. Ev- actually have actually taken the habit of just getting out on the road just to get out of the house. You know I'm not really I don't really have a reason to go anywhere. I don't have because I'm stocked up on everything I could need, but I've always loved road trips I. Finally got a reliable vehicle before all this stuff went down, and so for anyone familiar with the Atlanta area, our fair metropolis, usually as terrible terrible traffic and I have been driving around to eighty five, which is an interstate that encircles. Atlanta I've just been driving around it and it's A. It's a great drive. Dude, because there's never any traffic now. Is it used to be notoriously busy and choked up and now you can just zoom on by. I would say I feel like we do have to point out if you're listening and you're in an area where you have been told that you cannot take any. Non Essential trips then. Please abide by that to the best of your ability. But I haven't been stopped by anybody. You know I haven't been like hot, rotting or red lining anywhere, but it's good to get out there in nature I mean I. Don't know if if you all have been going on any hikes or anything. Oh, yeah, it's been very important for me at least for my sanity to get out there and enjoy. Some of the spring weather which I love so much. But running in my neighborhood and Going on walks and just trying to stay away from those purpose built pass because I hear that people are all over those these days for some reason, oh, yeah, yeah, it's it's real strange think I think we're learning. Just how much of a toll cabin fever can take on people? But as many folks have said not just in our country, but abroad in Australia in Europe in in Asia every country that's dealing with his current covid. Nineteen pandemic has set this at some point. We're all in this together and this guy you and I thinking about some tremendously impressive acts, both in the current day, and in the past, so Kurt a little while ago off air, you and I were were just. Kicking around ideas, just shooting the breeze and we started talking about how a believer conversation started when when we were talking about how Tesla the electric car company run by Elon Musk had pledged to start building ventilators to help with hospitals that were in short supply and to help patients who needed these medical devices so that they could get over the hump. Hump of infection, which can be, you can be quite dangerous. but of of medical ventilator is something that you wouldn't really expect a car company to build even one. That's a little bit more Sifi like Elon Musk. You know because he's known for his crazy Sifi ideas. Yeah, unless rewind several weeks ago when this thing was ramping up in the United States. Elon Musk came out on twitter and said the corona virus. Panic is dumb. That kind of rubs people the wrong way Perhaps what he was saying was that. Panic isn't necessarily a productive reaction. So what he is decided to do is to use some of the minds. He has working for him at Tesla to create ventilators. Spills can use because there's a high likelihood that has this virus progresses that there will be a need for ventilators throughout the country He has also been buying machines from other places where he. He can, he's been buying blessing truths of type than later known as the be Pat Yup machine and doctors in New York at Mount Sinai have been able to come up with a way to turn these into fully-fledged ventilators save put out a fifteen page instruction manual, and now other hospitals can use that manual took convert these types of machines over a two. Full on ventilators as well so all of this. Problem Solving and ingenuity is really exciting. In a time when there's not a lot of excitement to be had.

"Simple It's You know it's it's all connected and It's the same thing in your phone. For instance when you plug in your phone To a charger it It's a tiny buttery compared to the voter a new car over the phone and say the laptop for instance They charge at the same time. And some of the power from the wall goes into the The the sort of the circuitry running the circuitry and And any sort of leftovers will Will charge the battery. In case of laptops are quite often happens that If you run your your laptop very very high in a all the are very busy and GPS and all that And you crank up your Your Brightness Laptop. Your battery will actually be drained. Even though he loves plugged in it's because again you know power kind of flows where it's needed The resistance is lower when but it needs to go somewhere. All those electrons are needed. Somewhere else And that's the way it will go. It's very very simple. let's Let's go back to the The other examples that I all the questions that I often get us you know what votes your kettle. And you know what I tend to kettle on in the House. And the car will socially we're just GONNA train the grade so most houses in the UK have a supply of hundred amps to the house. Single face hundred UMP That's a hundred and forty volts. He can to the conflation yourself now. you know. How many Watts or kilowatts is. It's a lot of power right so Your car actually. I'm GonNa do this calculation as I speak. Which is about. But the 'em so got this week up this week of this. So He got twenty four kilowatts out of that. We need seven thousand to charge the CAR. We left with seventeen We put the kettle on kettle takes about three kilos onto three. We'll have to fourteen. We put the oven on. Albanese is about two. We left with twelve kilowatts. Let's put the Electric showroom some of the Mushy. Do five kids so to three was still left with seven kilowatts and guess what thinks like. Microwaves Kettles Any of Blows like that. They're not linear low loads like car which is charging you know seven kilowatts constant for the majority of the time when you touch the buttery when strained Things like cattle or your or your microwave or your oven They only need as much energy as is required to sort of To bump out the heat in the whatever the heating up So that the loads going to vary it's GonNa Kinda jump up and down so as you as you can see I can do this calculation itself but the of Dundas very good cook aggression and still is still at seven kilowatts. And guess what if you have to electric cars at the time WHO You could still you know. Charge the other one at the same time So not a problem not a problem and generally your Your Lowe's like that. They're not going to be on for hours. Unlike your electric car So not an issue. I I think looking at the time. We have been talking for half an hour now and the I'm sure you get the gist. Now Right The What can I say? Hopefully that answers quite a lot of questions and and kind of gives you more a bit more understanding and don't don't ever feel like this is complicated or or though this advance. Knowledge basic basic like the The voltages and the current those are basics for a reason The the fairly easy to cross went. I think going falls into the future. The should be something that everyone should be capable of understanding. You don't need to be muffs jeans or physicists to to get these things seriously.

"All right. So let's get started Once claim before I started to play with electricity yourself. You know this is all Dangerous stuff or could be potentially dangerous interest of and I do not take any responsibility for any issues caused after you've listened to it you know it's not a manual technical manual and You know if you can't do it or if you done know we own Churches League thanks to pros okay? Just so Two sort of fundamental times that we see Whether we electric lights are on your own and the one of them the first one that everyone kind of gets across his volt So the name actually comes from a surname of an Italian physicist called Allesandro Volta and I coach. I stole my Italian viewers or listeners. Sorry he He's responsible for one of the first documented battery designs and many of definitions of battery characteristics. What one of them is obviously a volt? The designated by a capital letter the sort of the the straightforward definition of voltages a difference between electric potentials between two points and. I know that might sound like a lot of job. But but depending on the time and I'm sure it will make sense later if you imagine electrcity in very simple terms is just a bunch of electrons. Hopley moving along from one place to another however since electrons are not really good at traveling through any just any material. We need a conductive material. Like a cable wire that electrons are of course not visible to naked eye but if you could imagine a bunch of electrons readily happily travel traveling through a wire from one connected to another thus essence of what the what is an electric current This willing the willingness and the Egos of those electrons to move through the wire is what we call an electrical potential. So a voltage. It's it's important to note that the electrons are not always happy to travel through a wire Imagine to buttress if you connect negative to positive terminal of a single a buttery. Don't don't try it at home. You will get a current flowing an an a very hot wire however if you take a to Aa cells and connects a wire from the negative terminal of the the the first one of them to the positive terminal of the the second one of them you will not get any current flowing through the wire That's because in order for the electrons to travel through the wire when need something called a closed circuit Which you know is the the other bit of of the apartment wise. The they know the the the betrayed self. So it's going to be sort of relevant lighter just again put opinion that and I'm going to get to to later which will be one of those things that has obvious when I explain later about peace but later on you this is the this is in a nutshell voltage. It's a it's a very arbitrary unit that we use to measure the potential now once we got the electrons traveling happily through circuits in the wire. Imagine sort of cutting the the wire in half you know look a cutout and looking at the The the life cycle and calculate how many of the electrons can travel through that cuts kind of at any given moment that's You know the the number of those electrons we call a current and just like it's the same as you know in a stream or river. Same principle as ray simple Count as for. Electricity is measured a numbers which is a name that comes from another blocks name. It'll blow sadly those days. This is a French physicist. He spent a lot of time studying electromagnetism. And you know for one reason or another. We use his name to call the the unit of Electric Current Compass in Income News and in physics Because you have to have a name for it We use the capital at a to denote current measurement. Hope the This wasn't too much too quick But it's you know it's all downhill from now on trust me They can relax if any of this. Wasn't clay feel free to rewind the way beds or just give it some time The trouble with electric said no one can see it. So it's it's tough to show its and this is a podcast anyway so So now if you have these two essential components potential and current voltage a number we can quickly get to our most significant figure which is the power power with with electric cars and buttery storage which is where we will be applying this this new knowledge is pretty straightforward the Another bloke's name that we will use it's always blokes. I'm afraid and this guy is you might have heard of him is called what he was a Scottish Fella and He's mostly renowned for Steam engines. But you know he's done other things so as you know we have lots to measure electric power in case of batteries and sort of DC direct current was very very simple you literally just take a voltage an approach multiplied together. And you get a well known figure. What's so I don't know twelvefold buttery that And you have one amp current twelve waltz simple L. electric car batteries of course are most commonly. This is like around out Have about four hundred volts. So let's imagine a car battery that's capable of producing ten kilos. A simply ten thousand was simply you know so we know. It's four hundred evolves divides ten thousand by four hundred. And you get twenty four amps. Simple told you so. Let's let's take an example Your home charger. For instance is probably capable of about of supplying about seven kilometers. When no charging your car. We know what voltage we had homes at least in the UK and Kinda most of the of the world. It's two hundred forty volts. Give or take so we can easily calculate how many ams it It will output right but still a very simple calculation archie electrically thoughts and let me know you find out Just tweet at take it easy right. Let's move on Eligible later Keanae amongst you will already be screaming at me put. My car has a battery. Pack WITH CAPACITY OF X. Kilowatt Hours. What does that extra hour in the units for some of you also have caused by the manufacturer for some reason decided to specify capacity using amp hours. Well if there's one of you If if there's one thing you should walk away from this episode with is that in real life just like in physics units are as are as important as values if not more important sometimes So yes thought our in what ours does re matter and does indeed make a difference to the On on its own. So in fact that means that It's an entirely different unit. Seriously just like you know. Miles are different from miles per hour except that in case of what our strangely does again to know why people do that. But that's the way. The physics people operate they strip out the The multiplication so miles per hour per means division but in case of the the multiplication they just admitted to the. Why don't ask me So they stripped out the multiplication in the middle so it should be What's Times our or anchors? Times our for some others. I question I after you ever think about electric cars but before you head expose three simple. All that means is the The battery in this case is capable of delivering. Say Ten killer. Whales for an hour or five kilowatts for two hours. That's it especially the heart but what is important again is the fact that you know the two different units so remember that must have distinction between killer whales and kilowatt hours. It's the two different things really The simplest way to remember is is the one measures the power and the other one is measurement of capacity. If you can imagine a buckets and if you put a hole in it You can drain buckets. You know for her many hours minutes. Whatever to empty it but the bucket itself has a capacity of X. Liters right it's the same same same deal so I'm sure you know which one is which your house charger does not have a capacity and buttery isn't just merely source of power could be of course easy peasy and For those of you who are unfortunate. Bmw ONUS For some marketing reason probably because the number is higher Bmw has decided to provide the users with them as a positive figure which I should know by now does not mean much without knowing.

"Will either stop. Judging rule constantly trigger on and off charging MIT heat up in the book and the amount of power that your phone needs to charge is minuscule compared to the the buttery in your car. So obviously that's a problem I I'm not so sure about driving on the road and charging at the same time there are other problems without because when you transmitting the power might be fine. But the the the you've got the problem off alignment again. 'cause YOU'RE GONNA have to drive you. Know on the line for the coils to be aligned. A perfectly I recently apple two years ago I think apple has announced the limbaugh at them. Practice the The the maps that you're supposed to to play place your phone and you're on the Mat and along with your watch and your apples and they'll all kind of magically charge at the same time what was happening is that underneath out there will be multiple coils overlapped and that and the. Motte would know where to direct the power in order fair device to charge over one of the reasons why we find out because it's not a public information but everyone sort of suspects that the reason why this has not happened is due to overheating Inefficiency issues with the product. And again we're talking about millions in there like a milli watts. It's not enough power to cause any issues but if a company like apple is afraid of people's phones overheating Then obviously sell the product. It again imagine that's in you know on your Straits. I think that's probably US or more dangerous than having cables around In the streets there's been a lot of negativity from this couple of people on twitter. Who are usually very very negative about other companies doing things about the You know because they on street parking charging husband sold by some of the council's by enabling the The outlets in existing Ke- bits of Kate's that are on the street already being a bullet or Or your lump writes it. It's not very hard to put a a a a plug in there and allowing people to charge. I think that's actually very smart solution. However that C create some controversy. We would love to have something. That's better but I think I think there's still a long way to go before we say induction charging takeover. The number one is the fact that you have to be aligned very well with the the. The two sides of things have to be aligned. Very well You know if you if you just walk through your neighborhood and have a look. How people are parking their cause you'll sell them see people parking within precisely within the limits of the of the box that they're supposed to park in all cars can ski in a way the one way or the other everyone has their own different style and nobody from few Bernie extreme examples. Nobody's really into that That the parking their car very precisely. So that's a problem number. One problem number two is the fact that like. I mentioned The The the distance between the car and other the two the two coils maters as well. This is the thing in physics called Inverse Square Law Which I know But basically safes that the in the physical quantity or intensity and inversely proportional square of the distance and in completely layman terms is basically means the double the distance. You could triple the the loss so this works for sound. This works alight and this works for electromagnetic field. So when you're a meter away from from a light source you receive four times less light than if you're right next to it. If you move two meters away from the light you'll have four times more loss of light and so and so forth This obviously isn't something we think about. But 'cause we we seem to the human perception that everything's proportional so you know you you double the distance at double the loss. But that's not the case so the if you imagine. Kilowatts of power being transmitted between the car ends the pavement or the end of the road If your car is slightly off if you curse tola if you're suspension slightly higher if the club if you're just parked on the curb the curb slightly higher does variance and that will introduce massive amounts of losses in the power transmission. That's that's something we too. We want to talk about or think about but that's just the way it is so I personally think that this is. This is still far away nervously. Ideally what you want to do is basically being able to park your car and the two coils magically align themselves and maybe something sticks out from underneath the roads and you know a touch us to the car but at this point one. I just have a you know a piece of y you plug it in. It's cheaper and simpler and we. We already have the solution for that so it might actually turn that In my opinion induction charging will be useful. But in my be something. That's very extreme solution. And it will require a lot of efforts for this to work very well useful but and of course At the end of the day with the buttery sizes Improve link and the buttery costs improving greatly. We might hit the point zone. Where you you're not going to have to plug it him every day. You know we we've started with the these being these sort of things that you plug in overnight every day and every day you just leave the House with a full tank but we might not eat that way obviously will have to rethink the way we you know. We travel at some point the these days we whenever whenever somebody new to think about. Okay well I want to look into the electric car. They always think about okay. Well I need to replace what I have. Now the way I think about Driving now with the same thing but electric but that's not how things work your plumb line at home isn't exactly the same as your mobile phone. That's you know the sudden things you've lost all your quality for once compared to the To your mobile phone and you know we're talking about mobile phones as they were when they were introduced The fact that you become just down you know. You can't take more from everywhere. There will be areas where your mobile phone will not work so you know. It's not an exact replacement in terms of functionality. Land and we've gained so much more by using something like a mobile phone and I think they will be the same thing for actor cars. You know the things will change the we will look at the The the new challenges but we also adults and love new benefits of having electric cost this episodes for Come and boys one but we talked about these things before. Let's go back to induction induction charging so if you imagine you know areas where there's a lot of contaminants in the air or on the surface. I get snowing That also causes an issue the The plugs obviously another another sort of benefit of action or or potential obligation as. We might want to have a car that does not have anything exposed any sort of metal bits and the plugs soccer's exposed on the outside and eat instead of plugging in. We just have another piece of cable that just or coil. That basically is magnetically attached to To bed of Bonnet or or or or wing on the car. And you know be using magnets the The took lows will be pethick the aligned and charged that way. Who else maybe solution. I don't think forty million Kurds that the UK government is throwing. This will be enough To be fair but then I think this poem will be solved by private companies. But we're going to end up with this sort of wild speculation. I'm I'm excited about it. But at the same time knowing enough about physics and and the potential issues with With the solutions I think induction is not the solution that solves our problems. It's it's souls another set of problems that you know that exist where the cabling is not the most ideal way of doing things. However I don't think it's the solution for residential parking and charging I think having a cable is still by far the simplest solution but as always let me know what you think. Tell us on twitter. Take.

"In the. We've we've got some time yet before we need to move so intent to cause that is yes. Oh maybe some more nonsense yeah. There's there's a you know the heat possibility. I. I'm not into sort of. I'm not a fulltime time out with peasants. I don't follow the The you know the timelines. Oh worship forgot about the Mustang so Everyone everyone was terribly disappointed with. Ford's gives the even the the Myla the last show that I went to In millbrook Ford had a massive stand. And you know like extra electrifying the world where Blah and the only thing that they had on the on the display or just which. I'm sorry but that's about ten years late and then all of a sudden they They announced the The mustung which I've got I've got some opinions but the let me just give them quickly out of my chest the it's not a Mustang. It's I'm sure it's got a Mustang in name but if you if you look at the Mustang from like seventy s you know. It's an American muscle car which I'm sorry. For Europeans American muscle cars are just notes that impressive? They just make a lot of noise. They look at beefy. They probably drive quick ish in a straight line. But from what? I've heard they can do like this thing. Called tanning properly are the speeds which for for a car. That's supposed to be fast. I think that's just a you know. That's terrible characteristic But you know it looks nice. The would have it's called But it's it's it's not a it's not a Mustang. It's it's a other calling it actually Compact SUV or everyone's calling their cows Mazda. Sorry complexities these as a definition must be. Yeah it's it's it's called the Mustang Mac e and I don't think calling it. You know it's it's an all new electric SUV from folds on their own website. It's a is not an SUV seriously. sports utility vehicle. I I it's not a utility vehicle utility. Tv The reason they're called there were called. Suv's is because they're smaller than trucks in the US. So you had some utility out of them. He could to- that's one of the utilities. You had a bad they we can put things this is not an SUV. I mean SUV has a name is just a marketing Tabbies means nothing but it's not an SUV But in order to sell a car to to your mother You know Doping Child at the school you just have to have an SUV and the name so It it's an Ansari that's just but the has just that's just the truth. the It's IT Looks Nice. But if you compare if you put one of them next to An Mustang from seventy S. This car is like three times bigger. you know. It's probably not probably as long but it's just it's a massive massive car is not a Mustang it It will sell from forty thousand in the UK which is a lot of money for a first as TV. But it's supposed to have a three hundred mile range or over three hundred mile range so. I'm looking forward to seeing them a few of them in the UK I'm not sure it's going to sell out well but the You know especially if you compare it to the The other companies. But I've got I've got few few people who are fold an enthusiast and the The buying one of them probably. So maybe I'll see one who knows What else is there But I forgot about a in twenty twenty Well like I said. Maybe something will be announced the beginning of twenty twenty Just like the the reason I mentioned must because they they just came out of the blue saying oh by the way we've got an easy An economical cars are unveiled at a at a show And there's just feel them every I think we we passed the the ones for twenty nineteen and and I don't think there are too many the beginning of twenty twenty so given the fact that you know they unveil if somebody unveiled a car in March of twenty twenty they might start making it available Or start delivering it towards the end of twenty twenty which technically is still in twenty twenty. But you know but that's a year away I don't yeah I don't think there's anything else we We need to talk about as far as the twenty twenty Cars A R- Consent now that I can think of. Are those just one more thing that I wanted to Saint General then three mentions that I'm moving house again. In fact during during wall weeping recording this I had a call from my sisters to say. We've exchanged contracts so that school going ahead the reason that's relevant to this show. He's I will actually have the opportunity to install charges again. I'm going to have to installed and one of them's going to be vic agreed enabled so that might be something to talk about next time so I just WanNa leave us on on that cliffhanger. Wow Yeah I'm looking for actually seeing a presumably Chatham more because that's the only vehicle to grid But yeah yeah they. They'll they'll be a once you have that insult it'll be nice to actually get your own views on. That would be absurd. Will he get? Will you begin? Sola as well or is it just a vehicle straightaway plan longer time? Yes thinking interesting that makes particular sense we sold swell well. It's one of the many reasons you should subscribe to this. Podcast ABSURDITY THE OTHER ONE. Is You know if you subscribe and you tweet me on. Tv I will record. Shows Rep. Simple as simple as that We you know we're not regarding this is the this. I do apologize for an old recording on a regular basis. But I'd like to have something to talk about like to just Comment on the recent news. I think that's just you know I think that's just way too easy and this boy too many people doing that already so I don't want to be adding to the To that You know bunch. I want to have something different. I don't why I went so saddles apologized for pointing out the positive aspects of this. Podcast I do indeed thank you but you know be my friends Message me on taking a additive easily on twitter follow us obviously comments and And suggest things if you if you know of anything that actually we didn't mention we were wrong about something or if you just want to have a friendly conversation just go for it and obviously visit. "Pre pre much am monopoly when it comes to charging the service stations in the UK? That's one of the reasons why you'll see plenty of you know Polar and another Charges like genie very close to the motto et Cetera. Being a pub or a cop out. That's literally just off the trump and there's a pub or something A restaurant and they'll have a charger there because they want to be close to the motto as possible but they can't put themselves in the service station because of the culture cities contracts with the I mean we. We have pretty much a monopoly in the UK when it comes to service station providers and on the other end of that we have the coaches city signing a deal with one company. So this is sort of. I think that's how it kind of works Which is good or bad. It's you know it's the way it is Split bugs I think. Yeah Yeah I mean. Everyone's trying to blame you for everything these days which put it this way when when when you're a manufacturer. X. And you you you're working on an e if you didn't make sure that your car works with Equity Charger in this case in the UK. It's just terrible So you know before you blame equality on on on the on the charging Experience just talk to your Your your manufacture files. They're actually the ones who who's who are responsible for making sure that your car can charge. But that's just my pretty pretty definite point of view on the on the subject. It doesn't solve much of you. You know if you run to Kotra City Aura But if you talked to the to your car manufacturer you have a greater chance of of getting something done Yes Oh yeah. That's the gist. Let's let's go back to To twenty twenty and all the amazing cars that are going to be available in two thousand twenty. M What does your. What is your next car going to beat Phil because very close to that and you're moving a house now so you know yeah well go half and on the cyber truck. Probably we've gotTA talk about. Maybe I I do actually have half an eye on the Which is now the the previous one. They announced Earlier this year model y model. Why that's the one that one I she does seem to be much closer to what I need by range and science so probably the timing as well said the that Lisa my out and would have run. Its course by the time. That three to hitching the market. Yeah I predict. It's going to be available I in the UK probably in September next year. Because they're the there were saying previously that they're going to be manufactured sound manufacturing them towards the end of the twenty twenty or sort of Alta awful and twenty but I think every sign in his is telling me now that the It's going to be kind of moved closer to to the Elliott Twenty twenty which means the started manufacturing it for the US market Sort of in the March April. We will we might get the right hand version in by by September which would be in line with which with what happens for the For three because I certainly know those people including myself who would love to have a model and I can probably you know I can probably squeeze informal. Three Thundered range plus. But I don't like the the the boots. The opening of the book is my in my opinion just at no And this is you know again me being a privileged white man living in the Western World But but the the the I just know that I do sometimes needs to put things that are taller into the boot than the The model three and model three is amazing. Car It's got plenty of power plenty of range you know. It's just everything a anyone could need out of the out of the car. Probably too expensive follows people but the but other than that if you if you have that sort of money and you. WanNa buy yourself a tesla. There's nothing wrong with model three. I just do want to have a verbal ability to bigger things in a boot make sense So model why would be probably and I'm sure up to this other people like me who have the similar Sort of thinking and of course If you have three kids like yourself then you you need a bit more space in the buck To just make them comfortable so so. Yeah is a a good option We have We have put down deposits on two cars. We're not going to be buying to kind of his thing But it's fully deposit. So why not put yourself in the queue? We've put a deposit on the Kea in Euro which from what I've heard Kia has finally pulled finger out of the the backside and are going to be making them in appropriate quantities. Not just have nine hundred for the UK which they did with With the previous generation. And I know they're saying you know officially that it was it was a The buttery production restriction. Look the same supply of the batteries supplying ten twenty times. More batteries for other car manufacturers. So I think it's just an agreement. It's it's a business decision they just want to buy furniture lower quantities of cars. See how it goes and then go for. A billion are going to tell us. Obviously that that doesn't look that doesn't from a PR perspective. That's not a good move. Probably it will be. It'll be like we could understand but most people would be like. Oh they're not sure about it. Maybe I shouldn't be buying this car would be sort of a Joe. Average Joe Average is Train of thought So you know them They're going to manufacture the the new Soul as an only which is one of the other reasons why they have to have a battery supply that you know can cover the the probably demand for them is going be greater even for than in euro so. That's the car I I just love the fact that has a has a great range and it's a pretty nippy car at least the one that we test drove Thanks to the EV. Experience Enter Milton. Keynes actually And and the other the other car that we put a deposit down as as the VW Ide- three legal. That's the So you've put down a deposit on that because the it it it's basically it's the size of a of a of a leaf which is plenty in a big for us And but it's got to see a greater range and it's a it's a modern modern Levy. We you know. There's nothing wrong with our leaf. But it is it is it has been outdated Speaking of twenty twenty. I'm actually I'm usually disappointed with Nissan Beverly had trouble in the paradise with the CEO. Being Binga dragged into losses and fired for for some financial misconduct I don't know if it's alleged notes but the you know the fact is the Fox and the and I'm sure that has an empire that because he was a great ev enthusiast himself. And I think that had one of the the Helen impact on the on them not manufacturing Moravia because years ago he's announced that they have you know number of cars waiting to be unveiled. Not just a leaf. And we're nearing twenty twenty and they still have only all on sale. They have the sun beef Forty and sixty kilowatt hour and they've got IAN V two hundred eighty oriented two hundred thirty And obviously there's a whole sort of disappointment in this Ability to manufacture Caused that actually can do greater distances than can be charged multiple times in the day Which is a you know. It's just it doesn't there's no I I just. I just don't know how that happens. Like there's no There's no excuse for not putting especially for not putting a liquid cold buttery system in there In the cars especially since they're doing it for Ian v two hundred I I couldn't. I couldn't stand of their data across the boards. You know But they do have the technology to do it so I yeah so I'm terribly supported a Nissan. Which is one of the reasons for next car is not going to be in the sun. I had high hopes when they when they were unveiling. The the Particularly our leaf. We were all hoping for something that's going to take them into the future and I'm afraid of you know Yeah that's not happening Yeah that's pretty much it all you you you don't. WanNa talk about cyber truck Shame not that's a shame as you know we should have recorded episodes like next day just like every other just like every other a podcast odor but I I. I don't want to make this podcast into You know next like the the news show. I think we we want to talk about. Things are obviously relevant to us the president. But I I want people to pick this up pick up most of the episodes of the Turkey Devi next year or even in tears and actually have something to listen to rather than just you know have the latest greatest news and after the benefit of those people. The cyber truck was just announced last week. That's what we're talking about that way. Thank you yes. right Anything else to share about the the twenty twenty Line of cars fill. I'll just say the attitude that I had my eye on the The narrow the dimensions and possibly the the high end bike which looks at both. Certainly the Kotak talked before about I think it was just before the latest was announced and it just wasn't quite way we wanted it so that that's going to be worth going back to look again so we don't end up going for the for the Tesla there are options and maybe there will be some senior announcements.

"Look I fully agree The On the subject of of charging. It's it's interesting when I had Jill Noel on the On the podcast awhile ago. She was talking about Initiative to get young people involved in designing the new approach to charging you know a fresh look into judge. 'cause there's there's nothing inconvenient about charging other than the fact that you have to wait for it when you're on the go But people stop on you know if you go to any motto services. People stop for sometimes well over an hour just to sit in a car and stare at the sky or Or have you know coffee or whatever so I think that's a very good point that you have to stop every two hours I think as a sort of Western civilization we are in. I'm sorry to be so bad on this but the I think we'll wait over privileged when it comes to these things You know definitely. We can We can get in a car and go places. I think we just take it way. Too much for granted and And just has to stop but the I love. How Robert llewellyn in the one of the reasons Runs on on his show fully charged just basically went into full roundabout. Suv's and sometimes you just want to do. That's when I'm in front of the school in watching ladies usually Dropping her kids in massive visa. Because you know because they have to have an SUV for for a single child And doesn't take yeah it's just. I don't WanNa go on runs. Do beating look up fully charge. Look a free charged. Show if you if you want to listen to over complaining about basically what's happened in the last ten years the is that we have this massive huge improvements in the engine combustion engine efficiency. And then what do we do? As a as a as a civilization we build bigger caused that actually consume as much or more fuel. Just to get Ara you know. Big Fat fastened all collection of Crap. That we don't need around You know just to go down to the park or whatever. It is just a absolutely horrendous But that is the Common Patton in modern lifestyle and it's just absolutely It's it's an absolute Monday. So that's my like you know I won't even go into like Ev. This is like you know I think we as people we just have to recognize the fact that we just consume too much. We rely rely on other things. Too Much You know to like we don't need like as my parents didn't have a car when I was younger but the But most people live in the UK. Their parents had a car. And I'm sure it was much smaller call and they were able to go around in there in a smaller car. It was probably not as efficient as more modern cars but point being that he didn't need much as e e e definitely did not need an to go around To a park or or to do your shopping So you know I would outside. They're festival I don't want to be Pontificating anyone but I think that's just a you know would just have to collectively get our Knickers in a twist and just kind of. I don't WanNA swear on this but the but we should we say that for the next up. Yeah Yeah we're GONNA have to have a one. That's like fully explicit I would say for patrons only but we only have one patron idea. But let's try double that. Oh yeah that'd be that'd be lovely He's actually encouraged me today to talk about more about patron because he feels lonely so if you feel brave patriots or com slash Tiki Devi and just join the place. Where was I so I completely agree with your your rent? You didn't want to make at least at a high level. I quibble with some of the details. And I think that's probably going to be on episode before we continue this conversation. Do you mind if I pause here. Because my sister's been calling me to check collect Jimmy. "Of people who provide networks will provide charges of their just put kind of be over us. I think you're right that would that would be a help. But there's a reason for that You need planning permission. And generally the council's won't give planning permission from the canopies. Much is the same way. You can't just put a bus shelter anywhere you want okay or find books Debut them as lead a useful then not pretty certain sites planning permission constraint if I had a pub and have one of them just from from viewpoint and a couple of the other men fetches I think is important to To to look at whether it's going to benefit the the location that you're at yeah and if you think it will if you want the extra time someone might be then to attract someone who's going to your site will just provide a service to To your drivers then drop a company like congenial one of the others. That's in the market. Drop them email and say you're interested in finding out what they'll do. What have you live in town as just And you said distance and you would love for one of these to be halfway through but you don't know who to approach. Can you still talk to one of the companies and ask them which you consider or is it? Who whose or do you guys petition? Any other business to put them in or is it just does this approaching you How does it work? Yeah well what we do. Is We approach a lot of major businesses and across the UK with multiple sites. So we're looking to find companies with multiple sites that councils public sectors really important that we can engage with them and install multiple sites like the bill we've just done with With milestones that means four hundred milestones will eventually have challenges at every one of restaurant sites White one was sitting at the moment. And it's a really nice facility. Today is twenty Beaten sets of people out to have lunch while having lunch. They can Chelsea Account If anyone wants to do that they They can contact the companies that provide them the fully-funded charges and ask for consideration Then it's whether it meets their criteria and whether it isn't available power that's a really important to be close to the three major line to be close to a mains grid connection Because that's one of the expensive things If if you're not Well cited it can cost an awful lot of money. Yeah don't WanNa do that. Can I ask you? Because it's it's a bit of a point of contention but it's always the number one question that people ask them other up to charge us. Y are the more expensive than your house. Charging one of the one of the reasons is the investment If you WANNA put a charge into your house it costs five hundred pounds. If you want to put a rapid charger and cost around fifty thousand. I thought it was like ten thousand foot. Well you've got the grid connection and the ground works and everything involved it. It's it certainly. North of twenty five. Typical costs will be thirty. Five to fifty thousand pounds for one judge while So you gotta get a return on that investment But it's a considerable cost all site the government at the moment charges twenty percent. Vat on public charging. Only five percent of the I think it is on domestic charging so The government's GonNa make some money for all the petrol and diesel. It's not selling. Yeah I've heard of. They're not very good at incentivizing. Ev of the moments in certain plus. We've we've been very lucky when we went with With some councils government departments and a few of them are very forward thinking and doing some good things as number. That aren't you're quite right. So last question like going to the sort of businesses installing these If I was a business owner that was kind of not sure like whether I should have one of these in my you know whatever What what is this sort of? What is the message that you know you would say? What is your advice to them now. Let's say I have a public area that you know. They don't know how to expand with the. I'm just a NAVIO now. I'm GonNa tell them too much but you know like if there's one thing that could potentially Benefit them like would it be about having one of these it's delivering an extra service to your customers or your cancelled residence home if he doesn't do it then? I think you'll miss the market because one of the things I was saying. They're all about getting the power grid connection those companies. That do it today. We'll have the connection a company down the road that doesn't do it. Today will therefore lose the connection. Because there's only so much capacity in terms of the number of rapid charges that you can have So those that are forward thinking end up attracting those drivers that are driving these and that will be pretty close to one hundred percent of the market within twenty thirty years just to be sure we not talking about the fact that the Greens the Great is going to run out with talking about the fact that If there's a repechage here and there's another one two miles down the road you know. You're not gonNA Invest Fifty grand in charger two months down the road. Because you already have one here so that might be the case and equally if you put one in here and you you you competitor. Next door wants to put one in. He grabbed the grid For the area from the local substation. Then you've got and he hasn't. I mean you can't get it. You're absolutely right. There's a lot of misinformation about running out of power. We're not GONNA have a power. The so much decrease in use of electricity because of things like led lights were efficient technology The there there will be enough electricity especially as when moving more and more of the case apply to sustainable renewable electricity. Look solar and wind So availability of power isn't isn't going to be a constraint it's available who the cars and I would say to anyone who who is wondering about it. The most important thing to do as a first step is actually go to a local dealer. We'll talk to you know who's go on Ebay. Actually Dr One. Yeah because everyone is trying to loves them. Y- amazing how many people who never drove driven once they've seen one but never driven one have so much to say about them. Absolutely cannot try it. You probably won't want those asset me was one of them so anyway up. I don't have any more questions unless you want. Now that's really enjoyed chatting. Thanks very much. "Charging points are actually discouraging. A massive adoption actually do look forward to the days when the only way we can pay for upper charger ended us. Nation charges is using our own cart and the prices flat for everyone regardless of whether you pay for a subscription top using virtual cards in cloud or some other bizarre solution after all we are already driving the future car technology so we should really expect our networks to be super easy to use and in the future on or in the now. All right Papa that wasn't too long enough Let's take a very short break. And after the break will feature an interview with Steph or Stephan First Question. I asked her was. Do you ever think about electric cars. Only everybody Here's the moment we've all been waiting for His Y interview with Steve. Foresta joy. I on on stateful. Stromer a mechanic cancer in Hampshire also responsible for the public sector business and Jeannie. But I'm doing this just as proud of individual Okay this this three types of BICYC- judging this slow fast and rapid a slow is of three pin plug as dead for calls. Fast is what you do. Typically home charging and workplace charging perfect for that but with some of the new calls. It'll take you overnight to get a full challenge yet It's not really ideal for what we call destination challenging. Were on route charging where you WANNA to stop and get a charge in your car. Much like you would stop in and fill up with petrol. And then you've got rapid charging. Which effectively is the EV equivalent of Of a petrol station am low. It's not as quick as a petrol station at the moment but it will be in a few years. Okay and how how popular these? There's a need for For rapid challenges. So that if if you if you've been driving a long distance or you don't have the ability to charge at home or you've just forgotten you pop into rapid charger and in half an hour. You can get sort of eighty percent of the full charge enough to maybe do couple hundred mall something like that There's about two thousand rapid challenges around the country. Which when you think there's about nine thousand. Petrol stations sounds a bit reasonable. However each petrol station has about on average eight to ten pumps so ultimately. There's a need for a lot more delays and that's why the business were whipping in another couple of thousand. Ivan next five years will say Pretty much most of the major locations that you you'd look for one you'll find a rapid charger And that they're really starting to appear everywhere. Mci How does it work out? So let's say I. I have a pub in and village in my local village and I. I'm an AV ONA or I you know an enthusiast and obviously to good business because you have people here for half an hour. They're going to pop into at least how drink or if they go into the news and going to see you'll main us and they might be like thinking. Oh this is a nice ball. I'll come here with my family next week Sort of your typical businesses of do you have to approach. How does it work like the The repechage zero peering over the place at the moment low of being a being implemented in Silla places. You don't really WANNA go to don't want to be at jeans. Model is one of having the best charges in the best locations and that genie experience is really important. We we approach a lot of the The restaurant chains the drive throughs different establishments councils et Cetera With an offer that That they quite like if they would put in slow charges it probably costs about five hundred thousand pounds slug challenger false shelter for a rapid charge of the investment for a couple of rapid charges is heading to one hundred thousand pounds. We don't ask them to do that. Will Fund that will carry. The risk will do all the works and our model and a couple of other companies in in in the in the market will do that sites that meeting that criteria and then operate them. I've read ten twenty appear at one guy so the so they're going to be here for these say couple of years. Now get up to speed quickly. Van Going to be that for ten twenty years This milk is growing really rapidly. You probably wear the. The government has decided that petrol vehicles and diesel vehicles. All going to be discouraged and won't be allowed to be sold off to twenty forty. We actually think there's a likelihood that'll be brought forward. If the various comma factors can release enough electric vehicle gig of their business out of their balsams basically some of the car companies have done a really good job of bringing to market Tesla Princeton's BMW Audi and the whole Volkswagen group now Really cranking up the volume and you'll see a flood of cars coming on the market in the next year or two Some companies that have probably early in the market like Niskanen Reynaud Doing a reasonable job. And suddenly bringing out better vehicles one. That really really interests me is one that's wrong. I think that's Toyota They they pretty much started the plug in the hybrid market. Yeah but Advertising Self charging hybrids tomorrow morning complete. And that's a false absolute episode on those charges because the the amount of questions that I get from family and friends about self charging immense and I took obviously set the record. Straight the so. They're no longer asking but the but it's a joke. Basically self challenging power supplies at home if they put a generator exactly so going back to the repechage Do you guys manufacture these yourself or are these third party and genie's Units evil units made in Spain. Nakai for us. What I like about them is that the eighth take the contact list So you don't you need to have a special card for them which is always very nice And be you can charge two cars at the same time. Though these these units we have in front of us they do. Ac and Chatham. Oh all right yes. It depends on the power available at a particular site. We started When we were piloting Three years ago with contactless Which we see is the way forward pleased that the government has now said that old charges have to be contactless but as always taken any debit card. Any CREDIT CARD MASTERCARD. Or Visa Apple Pay Android. Pay You can use your Apple Watch for it we just WanNa make it really simple. So there's no membership or subscription. Yes we think. That's the way the market should go. Yeah I'm GONNA like Two things I haven't seen too many of these in Kent now but I've seen them emits couple years ago In Saints Breese. Yeah and I love. I love the fact that I turn up. Somebody else was charging. It was bigger unit in this. I could plug myself and still still be charging even though the person next to me is charging as brilliant like you know. I know they all the electronics is that it does like you. Say there's a supply three face. Why not because they probably have enough bits for CCS and chat at the same time? Why not just utilize? I'd charges can charge any car. Whether it's a Tesla Reynoso Misano di Bam w Jagua really doesn't matter though go without because we all three connected there are three standards in the UK at the moment. some other vendors have only got one. Stan One connector and maybe two and we think that's wrong because it means you're immediately limiting. Who can you can use your science. I don't understand people who this sudden. It was crucial remain nameless. We only have see she. S and in the long run. Maybe but you know I drove on. Leif Mills plenty of them in the UK on this in second hand markets. They're not going to be able to see charges. So why? That's a good car. And it uses the Chattanooga Japanese Standard Yeah And it's a fantastic because you can by us the for about six thousand pounds. Yeah the running costs of via fantastic Depending on what you're running it probably works out on on the few an electronic between two and ten p a mile whereas for diesel petrol. You told me about two to three times and the Apart from the Tesla illness. Whenever I speak to a navy owner who had the car for three or four years and I asked him. Have you had anything going wrong with this car pretty much? Everyone says that's changed. The highest worship fluids. That's pretty much is built. Select my first full. Electric car was BMW. I three putted. Sixty thousand dollars in it and I didn't have to do anything with the the service was a car. Wash basically brilliant. Then they're the only thing that's missing Over the chargers I have to say is a canopy when it's raining snowing. That's the only thing that I'm missing a can. I can say to all the supplies.

"Them to to talk up an Ebay. We do sort of semi light assembly. With the with the like. Garages say we will. I will stop talking to people and they will come in and say. Oh you know I've been so the BMW guarantee and they said come and see you guys You're not get in. Kia will go rhino and said potently. I pop in and see. See You guys spices. It's a knowledge knowledge thing. And if you if you all going in and you'll talk into a salesman and They fully versed in petrol and diesel. But they're not up to speed with electric not gonNA really comfortable with trying to sell you something that they've got now. I did about But yeah the advantage for those guys here in Milton. Keynes say a lot of them have dedicated large dedicated sections to that garages. Because I know about about Milton. Keynes and what is trying to trying to achieve but also that'd be more than willing to send people strauss. Sometimes they might not have cars. Available will ways aiming to have a one of each call of able to test drive? I always say that. You know the garages won't be aware of the longer experiences that we do. Which potentially the garages won't have the ability to do that. A lot more guarantees nowadays doing these like forty eight hours full hour test drives but you have to pay vehicles and potentially that no sitting on the stock to be able to allow people to to take called take calls away off of them for multiple data time whereas that's kind of what we get towards and it's then it's then understanding the garbage might have sent us some Someone across eventually when you know we give them all the information and they have all the driving experience with offs that that person is laying guys need to attend to encourage you know. We can't sell them a call from from the center This last night commission or fees to the Centaur if somebody comes in and says you can draw tries car and then like right. I'm ready to buy realistically the only way that I can help them. From there on his by pointing in the direction of the average giving the name address of somebody's contact or or give a call etcetera. Do you have any advice to people myself or any other drivers who gets questions? What is the best way? All beyond advice would be the best way to talk to. These people were curious of these things so from experience. It's always good to try some people a very much off up for an argument. We'll find in hand but people have some vague understanding about what we're doing and then we'll come in. We'll pick four things is all about just trying to trying to stay calm and just make yourself. Claire Him in what you're trying to save to people and just try and lay the Fox out for them if you if you're trying to give them all of the information then make their own decision about it. It is not a much better way to come about it rather than trying to force your opinion on someone now. If you say well you can run the foot. Electric Cough may be somewhere between three to five pets mile and there's no Currently no tax to pay on the car and that you should expect cheap food even full dealership services on the vehicle that does you know the growing number of places that you could. You could charge your car across the UK and the you could potentially be charging your car. I'll him on your driveway. So every morning you wake up you ate a fully charged car ready ready waiting few guy potentially even preconditioned that it's just laying information out so that realistically once you've been given all of that information that is going to be very difficult to sort of shrug that often decide that. Actually that's something that you're interested in you know. Why why. Why wouldn't you be interested in saving money? And that's before you even start talking about things like the degreen aspects of the card. The zero tailpipe emissions that potentially running the call from renewable electricity the site of panels. Which is going to decrease your costs or even just you to call them footprint of your And then again it's it's even the US before. We even started talking about the driving experience as well. I mean you'll know as as like myself that is down to the way that the car drives If somebody if somebody told me that I had to drive a combustion engine. Call Tonight yes. I'd be concerned about to the TAILPIPE emissions of the car. And the you know the fact that it's going to cost me more money to drive by. I do say be. I'd also be concerned about the fact that it's not going to drive. This as Nice as my envy is to drive is is is not going to be direct drive automatic seeing this delivery of power. Since it's not gonna be it's GonNa be smooth. It's not it's not going to be choir all of those things that we love as we're GONNA have to be used by than toolkit says I'm GONNA be beating less people off of traffic all the offer all gaps of roundabouts. Yeah it's something that every blows but they don't Wanna be talking about because I'll see you don't be bragging votes you the quickest but it is true that quite often find myself taking people very quickly and then seeing somebody else behind me and combustion engine car trying to catch up and even the leaf the having time. Soi the main priority for us is to try to get people in the calls to have to have the opportunity to not book anything. Just turn up and go out for twenty minutes bid for us the best for us. The best. The best visit the center of people who have never driven E. V. before because it's getting them in a car and then then just watching them sort of hot. That light bulb moment of this is really nice to drive and it's much quicker than I thought it would be as well like this doesn't hang around and I can see the number on the dashboard telling me how many miles I can do. That's higher than I thought. It would be all day sort things so conclusion if anyone has any questions or you want to your point your family member or a bystander to a place where they can get all the questions answers you guys. Don't nobody else to book any sauce to see you because you can just walk in and have a chat. I mean if you want to do some drives with us we would know me say I they give us a call or give us an email or through the any of the quarry sections on on our on our website just to check. If you're making a special trip to us that caused that you might be interested in. Driving are actually available. Some unforeseen circumstances happened that means. The car is on the right side like a longer experiences in the cause. Get quite popular. Say if you'll if you're interested in in taking 'cause away from us for for a prolonged period of time you're looking at about two week sort of lead time white time to get into a booking calendar for those sort things but again it's it can be quite handy to come in and try multiple things. That slaps the bt of us as well. I China G. to find some way way you could come in and you could you could drive a BMW for twenty minutes and then go out drive a Volkswagen and then go out and drive the Kea. Go out and try giving giving you the opportunity to get a real good view of the different issues that outlets like the petrol diesel cars. They all drive slacking difference. They're all kind of different experiences not just interior wise. Actually the drive in characteristic and I find that the are actually much more diverse in the way they're manufactured bit more to clean slate basically and manufacturers done different things. They've flavored the cars. In a different ways. Whereas with the petrol engine cars with emissions restrictions. And all the other the fuel economy they have to make some choices and obviously quite a lot of petrol and diesel cars manufactured. There Chelsea's are manufactured by or engines in such a manufactured by one or two manufacturers even though they have a different botch you driving essentially the same thing different type whereas with electric cars.

"So we didn't couldn't have our own dedicated charge for a year and a half so we period relied on the public infrastructure. And garbage with Georgia. Yeah that's Celeste very similar to me. So I I've got twenty two kill Fest Generation Renos Sorry man I live in a top flap of see. I've got the you know the nice position of living in Milton. Keynes the charging racist as as you call it a say. I try to come in working at the center so I've been driving. I'm actually my second Reynoso but I I I've been driving electric now For maybe about the same sort of time she three and Serena years. I'm surprised coming working at a center. I was wholly reliant on the charging instructive canes now admittedly for me. There is a too rapid charges about ten minutes away from my flat. Say THAT WOULD BE. Well do a lot of charging otherwise he just be in and around. No kings during lots of occasional top-up charges nowadays at the center. I'm I'm lucky with it being in the center. I'm case shopping complex. And we call these like seven kilowatt double socketed posts outside. So that's where tend to the vast majority of my My charging nowadays country. Hokey will be fully charged. Play this time on finch. The question is how far they go but we already covered. The the other question is very disturbed. Stations can I every weekend as I do now? Yes because my family lives whatever. Scotland and homeboy surprising. How many people like to go to Scotland and call like so often it's obscene the cause. Were not get to Scotland in Kabul from McCain's charge. I mean we An email right. We'll do detail hundred fifty miles quite easily. And if you're a little bit more serene about it. Your journey plan plan some stops but we have had people calling from us and have racked up large amounts of Luxembourg smallish and short period of time of not really had people take the cause. As far as I'm aware as far as Scotland son forgetting we have had a number of core. Mu Trips from come. Question is well when people are like. Yeah if I want to go to Scotland if I want to go to call and it's about talking to them and drilling down like Whoa okay. Are you just asking that to find the limitations of the call? Was that Sunday. The choir and unite in might be somebody then turns around and says well I mean I like to go somewhere and it's like every other okay. It's been a couple of years since I've got by might want to go into need this teacher and I'm thinking he's trying to ascertain okay. Well are you in a one households actually three 'cause okay say you you. WanNa to be replacing the car within Replacing one of your combustion 'cause with an e. that's fit for purpose and potentially if people access to other vehicles it means that come that trip if it happens you know if it's something you actually today and when you need to draw to. Komo's or Scotland's than you got another car. That's that's capable of doing that but you know sometimes My flipping responses. Why would you WANNA try to Scotland? Gallon the plane. It's not quite the train the train. It's quite easy to Plano. Trained call from milkins anything. Colin's Yeah I've done. I've done a minibus to Edinburgh. What's before and I will never do that. Ever ever ever again. So yeah that was with no charging stops. That's a petrol. Diesel minibus member. Yeah that was nice stops. I won't be doing that again next it will be. You'll be playing trains if people don't play the The needs to stop. They think we can do eight hundred. Miles an yeah. That's that's yeah that's normany say it's like well. How do you like to drive without stopping some people to be like? Yeah I'll I'll drive a thousand miles without stopping or whatever crazy figure. It might be and it's like well that's probably not the safest option and quite you know is it's maybe something that I did I didn't used to do before I started driving. Eib actually quite joyous stop now is sort of gives you the opportunity to refresh yourself. Make sure you your brain. Still firing all cylinders. You Not GonNa make any lights silly. Mistakes is stretch your legs drink. Sorta we quite often and I found out from other people ever since we got the car and this is our only car in the household we plan the trip so that we can stop somewhere nice along the way and local sounds so we can just you know. Instead of always playing throughout the charger. He'll stop somewhere in seven post suffer to talk about and instead of again and we've discovered so many places we've never. Yeah you'll be. You're planning your your fun in around the around the availability of charges that she sometimes he's taking you off the beaten track little bear and yeah. There are some definitely some some nuggets to explore. Another question gets to know if you guys do those. Somebody looks puzzled my car charging and they asked me but you do have an engine noise. Yeah I mean so though the time so we've added my four different cars in the showroom across four different brands and and when you say to someone that it's pure electric you're still a little bit further into the conversation which point somebody will somebody will will. There's no there's no petrol backup is nothing. It's no it's just just the pure electric get set about Like hybrid hybrid cards either mild hybrid oil or plug in hybrids or 'cause like the range extended stalled 'cause like a payroll or the BMW. I three rexes which may be crazy. Little Big Confusion Web is people are still not fully understanding that a fully electric car. A BAFFONI is actually just battery intellectually mater. And that's it people not wanting to let go as well so More recent days since we want to the third generation of BMW. I three hundred twenty am Powell's a lot people not necessarily the happy about the fact that No longer selling range extended versions of the again. That's people trying to hang onto combustion penalty combustion and having having like a fullback all the time. Yeah Safety Nets Yeah. How often do you get asked about? I find that people tiebreakers because they took a safety zone. Like you say it's supposed to be the best of both worlds the phrase that. I often hear what you like when you have people coming in and they very sheepish about like making that step to the other side. Yeah I mean. Our main goal here is to ascertain. Somebody's needs off for a cost. They will be sent scenarios wet by a plug in hybrid might make more sense for somebody that describing certain sets of circumstances but often sometimes Sometimes people are just going to plug in hybrid theory because they think a range of other causes going to work for them so that would describe scenarios where bio well. I think a plug in hybrid will be really good for me on my other. Half because just doing sorta like short journeys all the time and that would be that'd be covered by Puckett hybrids. And then if you didn't try and explain to them like will you say you're doing like ten fifteen mile? Jenny's time ago Gina that there's plenty of caused on over one hundred miles on on a full charge and none of the none of the increased costs of a of a combustion engine cars you could cheap savage eight no great tax Tax Pay and who it will have to drive a little bad than a than either plug in hybrid doors or standard Hybrid Have more power available to it. Essentially if you if you get a plug in hybrids and you'll do a driving around in electric mode all the time and it just you just essentially carrying around debt and generally and plug in hybrid. The Electric Mesa will have less power output to than the combustion engine. So you'll sort of sacrificing yourself on power when you should have just bought the full the pure ebay with a with a bigger electric motor with more power output for it and you know maybe the way of the combustion engine for batteries my co host..

"Louis. I'm the assistant manager at the Electric Quick Experience Center say we are a not for profit entity with south with government grop money in conjunction with Milton. Keynes Council say Milton. Keynes is one of a number of Joe. Trillo cities specific to bid to become go. Trillo City Council accepted the idea of of an experience and education center so in Milton. Keynes we were quite lucky that we had quite a head start over a a townsend cities in the UK in fact that we'd already invested large amount of money in infrastructure so Milton. Keynes Council decided It's it's one thing. Keep putting charges in the grounds but unless you have a a center in a place where you can explain to people about the infrastructure about why you should be thinking about using it the benefits and and your different options that are available. You're not necessarily going to see the tight just by having charging charging stations around because even talking to the people of the people of Milton. Keynes there will be very surprised. About how much charging infrastructure that. She is in Milton. Keynes as as drivers. I think a lot of people are aware that Milton. Keynes is one of the premier destinations for charging it's an oasis in this country. We have to go. You don't have to go very far to find a find a charger. I is quite handy. It's surprising how many people have Milton kings and the surrounding area have have no idea about line until you stop showing them a map and showing the you know how much time effort money is going to the structure of Milton. Keynes say yeah. We hit for free education advice about everything to do with plugging vehicles nowadays. We're sort of starting to slot more heavily towards the the puree base. We do still have Adam moment. One plug in hybrid still inflate so is easy unplugging hybrids. I will always have for a Free no-obligation twenty minute test drives say you couldn't that she just be walking past the front of the center on the way to boots next door to get your. Yes you sandwich meal deal and decide the a twenty minute drive in an e B takes. Your fancy is very much the same as going into a dealership. The main difference being is we are completely not for profit where zero sales environment. So you're not getting any sales pressure You'RE GONNA go for a drive with one of EIB. Gerry Adams they are just going to talk through the basics of the call. Some of the functions. They're not gonNA stop talking to you about Trim Ivo about. Pcp deals about gap insurance and two. You're GONNA drive when you're driving. You could trade it in for a good deal. Yeah yeah again soon and suppose really like on top of the twenty minute test drives the the one thing that we could potentially think that we we do so. He's longer experiences in the cause. Say you can take a car away from us for four days. Three nights a fifty pound flat. Fate Reduce seven days six nights which ranges between seventy five to ninety five pounds depending on the specific vehicle. That you take say you know in a twenty minute drive around the block with us. You'll get an idea about how the car drives. I can tell you about the ranges that you should be able to expect out of the car and I can tell you about Expected charging times on a rapid charger or standard speed charger. But until you have to experience that yourself that's when you know whether it's GonNa fit in your daily lifestyle. Do you know I can tell you? The Com- take united study. Forty minutes eighty percent on a rapid charger. And you might think that That sounds like a long time. But maybe if you're actually using mccaw you'll topping up for a bit actually might be surprised at how quickly you can get small amount of malls in the car enough to carry on. He needs to and simply on the flip side of that. You might rapid charging you might think a repechage time sounds good view of what you needed to do. But you might be my Barak off from us and you might be cy rapid charger for forty minutes and then decide. Actually this is for me right now. And we'd much rather people make that assessment before they go and purchase a car. Rob potentially buying a car not having all the required information that they need before hides going out by the Cau- and then just having an awful experience because event you know giving the call back and then just swearing off electric for the next ten years or something like that. Jedi. Offer the back of that. That's the main question. Then People WanNa know how quickly that they they charge the mom and that's quite surprising as well because lots of people when you start describing rapid charging times to people a lot of people are on a web of rapid charging the thing I'd also lots of people A lot of people aren't sort of aware of the grace of standards charging. I think a lot of people still stuck thinking. That may way that you're charging the cause three pin plugs and you'll charging call for three pin plug at home and you'll charging your call for three cheese and walk out out and about a lot of people are expecting much like larger like charging times. Which is the number one question I get is? How long does it take to charge? And the second one is and the whenever I described to you can charge off the three pin plug like. Oh really you have like a Specialized equipment for. Yeah I suppose maybe not. They're not necessarily always expecting. Every charging solution is a three pin. They kind of expecting it's at the rate of a three o'clock always a free information that they've had maybe like five or ten years ago a about charging times expected to cause to and I'd take twenty plus hours to charge. Thinks that that's what they based their they information and whether they think it works with them a lot of people a lot of people are very concerned about the right because they think that that is the okay so the call does one hundred miles so that means. I can never drive more than more than fifty miles away from home because the as far as I'm aware the charging solution is gonNA take long way longer than I need so I need to have a battery that it's going to be able to drive me to my destination and back without any need without any needs to charging. Where can I challenge this new electric vehicles question in different SNARKY snarky way? I get asked like how would you respond to that question? What can I? It's so we've a very large map front and center as you walk as you walk into into the center said. It's a live map of polio network. Say The center is run by BP charge Mazda. They are the people who have who are basically running running the center on behalf of the Council as sort of a not for profit vested interest eights the pilot the pilot. Mapam on the front boys. Alive map showing you utilization is called blue and green pins to show you charges currently freeing charges. Carney's so that's a good tool to be able to show people charging. Obviously that's amy showing you one network and off the top of my head the P. E. Charge Moss Network. The pilot network is about forty percent market. Share safe. We we eat zach more often than not to show people the amount of charging infrastructure that surround there is another There's another ipad of the front on the way in the lawsuit that we'd normally default shows that map and there's one on the on the back desk as well as waste waste showing that map. It's also trying to like people are normally Oscar about where they can charge that car because potentially because they know call great idea about the ranges and how often they would need charge. How often they would need to charge the car if he if you had access if you had access to off street parking driveway or gary or something like that. I'm Scott who charging unit installed fan. You potentially find that eighty percent of you'll charging would be done. A high may be the rare occasions when he actually charging infrastructure out in the bath had some when we bought the believe. Who did not have a charger? We did not have ostrich where we did have street parking. But we lived in London time slots.
