"Now that doesn't mean they're not gonna get another run of catastrophic injuries. Of course we know that this is the eagles probably will happen but for right now. The eagles are getting healthier. If they can avoid the injury bug in the second half they actually have a decent roster if they're able to stay healthy at least on the offensive side of the ball fougamou rager sanders and got. Her are the third to the second half success seriously. Enough with the twelve personnel. The eagles are bad at it now. There were good at it for a little while. No more twelve personnel. Let's get these receivers and let's let's get them involved. Let's get lead folsom rager and goddard eat here. Keeping miles sanders on the field will be a big deal to. I think eagles would do well to commit to the run a bit more than they have in the first half especially against defenses. That are known to be weak against the run in travis fog. You've you've just lucked into a number one wide receiver. It's amazing how competent travis fog looks jalen reagor has all the potential in the world and in miles sanders in dallas guttered. You have two guys who are known producers. These are four young potentially dynamic options for wants to utilize this is he honestly has more talent right now heading into this game against the giants then he had over the final month of twenty nine thousand nine season and maybe during the two thousand eighteen season as well the coaching staffs primary responsibility has to be to protect wentz and find a way for those four players them rager sanders and got her to touch the ball as much as humanly possible. The fourth cates. A second half success is the fact that there really is no juggernaut in the nfc. Is there an nfc team. That truly scares you. The green bay packers of aaron rodgers and they have looked very good at times but they're horrific against the run. They have a huge achilles heel. The new orleans saints had a big game against the tampa bay buccaneers last week but drew brees has been up and down this season. The seattle seahawks have russell wilson. He's always dangerous of course but their defense is incredibly porous and again. The buccaneers just got destroyed by the saints. The rams do they terrify you. I know they came into philadelphia and beat the eagles pretty well. But i'm not terrified of the rams and jared goff are you terrified of the forty niners right now to the cardinals bears or viking scare you of course not every. Nfc team has a fatal flaw and the eagles might be on the upswing. There is no chiefs. There is no ravens. There is no steelers in the nfc so again. If whence can rediscover some of his late season mojo and play like a top ten quarterback again. There is no reason. The eagles couldn't go anywhere this fall and beat any nfc opponent in the postseason and finally the fifth key to eagles having a successful second half the defensive line has to continue to eat. The eagles have won. Above average player in the secondary in darius lay their linebacking core even with the emergence of tj edwards as a competent run stopper and blitzer is a huge weakness. The biggest area of strengthen is the defensive line which has been one of the best units in the nfl this year. They're averaging three and a half sacks a game. the eagles are second only to pittsburgh. That's just not defensive line that's the entire team. Bradford graham having a career year with seven and a half sacks through eight games on pace for his first double digits axes. Derek barnett is three and a half. Josh sweat looked great early in the season. He's piled up three. you're seeing. You're seeing some signs of life from fletcher cox and me jackson. They've been pretty good in the middle of the line forcing pressure stopping the run. You'd like to get more out of jail hargraves. Perhaps he'll provide some production in the second. Half to i think. Jim schwartz should blitz a little bit more to mix things up here in the second half. Certainly there will be third and longs defense makes you want a dunk. Your head nevada hydrochloric acid but if the d. line continues to play. Well it should be enough of the eagles to keep teams out of the end zone and give the struggling offense a chance over these last eight games so there is enough talent on this team to win the division if wentz figures things out could the actually become good in the second half at least good enough to win a game or two in the postseason. The schedule in the second half is not easy but it's not unreasonable. Here's how i see it breaking down. And i believe i might have mentioned this on on last week's eye on the enemy but it's worth repeating. I see them winning against the giants here this weekend to move to four four and one i see them beating the browns in cleveland at five four and one then i see them losing to the seahawks at home to falsify five and one i see them losing in green bay to the packers at five six and one i see them winning against the saints at home to move to six one losing at the cardinals to fall to six seven in one than winning at dallas to go to seven seven and one and then winning the final game of the season at home against the wf t to go eight seven and one here on the season. I think asking the eagles to go to in three against the browns seahawks packers saints and cardinals isn't too much to ask in order to secure a winning record and i really do think the eagles have a solid chance to do that. And if they do go to the postseason. I do think they have a chance to win. A home playoff game because none of them. None of the teams in the nfc scare me. And this is this. Eagles team does have the possibility of actually playing. Well the last eight games if they meet if all of the five keys i just mentioned managed to come to fruition. All right folks. That's going to do it for this edition of eye on the enemy. "The biggest difference in the new york giants from from the last time they played the eagles. It is that the offensive line of the giants has improved by leaps and bounds. Andrew thomas is playing much better. Nick gates has really settled in its center on. They're getting good play across the board on their offensive line. So for me the big match up. I mean we know how good that eagles front seven is on defense for me. The big matchup is right. There is can the giants. Control the line of scrimmage. Can they control that front can give daniel jones time to operate. They've the giants have run the ball. Pretty well the last couple of weeks and even without saquon barkley out for the season with wayne goldman and in an having picked up alfred morris off the nfl. Scrap he bleed or not. They've run the ball pretty will. Can they continue to do those things or are we going to see the horrible offensive line play from the giants that we saw the first four or five games of the season. I think that's that's a big big thing to watch for me and who's going to win. I know it's the homer picked john. I know it's homer pig. What i'm going with the giants simply because they feel good about the trend line with the giants. I feel good about about what we've seen. I do believe that that we're seeing improved. Play week-to-week from the giants. They believe in what they're doing when you talk to these players over the last week to ten days. This doesn't sound like two in seventeen. It doesn't feel like to in seventeen. It sounds and feels like a team that believes it's going in the right direction. That believes that that things are pointed are pointed upward. And i think you know after after eight straight losses to the eagles after some inexplicable losses on sixty some odd yard field goals in dropped passes placed right in receivers hands and in other inexplicable things. That have happened. That i don't even want to think about i just i just. I think it's time for the giants win. One of these games. Yeah you would. You would think that their do by this point. So i i hear what you're saying i'm not picking. I'm not picking the giants to win this time around. I'm kind of a guy i want to see. It happen before i i picked her. I don't want to see it happen. But by the way how many games is the winner of the. Nfc east gonna win this year. Is the winner of the nfc. East gonna win more than six games. You know i. I feel more optimistic about the eagles. Second-half then i think most people do only. Because i see this team getting healthier and i think i know that carson wentz isn't as bad as he's played and the only reason why their record is what it is is because carson wentz played as badly as he has i think we're going to see a better carson wentz in the second half. I don't know if he's going to you. Know get to the level that he was probably will not get to the level. Whoever was in two thousand seventeen. But i think we could see late. Twenty nine thousand nine carson wentz for the rest of the year and i think if they can stay healthy. I think this eagles team can go. Eat seven and one. I think they can win. Eight games. I think they probably only need to win. Seven in order to win the east and you know might be six if they manage to beat the giants on sunday. But i mean i think i would agree that if there's a team in this division that's gonna get to eight wins. It's going to be the eagles. And i think sunday tells us a lot. I think you're exactly right. Sunday will tell us a lot. This is on paper. The eagles are more talented team. If everybody's healthy this should be a game. The eagles win. But like you said you know the giants at home. Eight game losing streak. There is some of that thought that their due to win a game like this and say i just feel like i just feel like like they've been trending in the right direction in an after after so many times with the eagles and and with the cowboys i feel like they're they're due to catch a break and win at the end of one of these games. I can't dispute that. We'll see what happens on sunday when the eagles take on the giants up in new york folks make sure you are checking out big blue view every single day to get what's going on with. We'll keep an eye on the enemy with the giants and make sure that you are following At big blue view on twitter at valentines stuff. Make sure you're reading him every single day over at biglou view. "Nothing. That's being done from the laps to to any of the other things that he's done the reasons for all of those things. It's not just like it's not like he's just saying he said so yeah he he's been clear that he has explained to players the reason for all of the things that he's done and i think that's part of why he's getting by in. It's part of why he's getting effort. It's it's crystal clear that this team in this coaching staff did joe. Judge has put together. It's crystal clear that this group is far superior to the to the coaching staff that the giants had the last two years. Well i'm sure that's encouraging for giants fans and it's not exactly what i wanna hear but good for the giants because they absolutely needed some some competency in the head. Coaching spot in the rest of the coaching staff. He did call the eagles and explosive team. This week which i found interesting is someone who's watched eagles football season. I can assure you they have not been explosive but more impulsive so far this season so but but i mean they are getting healthier and i think that's a big thing here as we looked as we look forward to this game on sunday. The giants are gonna be facing an eagles team that i think is healthier than they have been. Even since week one. They came into the they come into week. One with a number of significant injuries and so how. What concern level is there a on for the giants for the giant and for giants fans that you'll be looking at an eagles team that may be the coming off the bye week maybe playing or the healthiest. It's been since the season began. All that is obviously a concern because we don't know exactly what we're going to see. I mean it can take some time when you get new offshoots. New pieces back can say take a little bit of time for for everything to come together again but the eagles will have a much voeller roster than they than they had a few weeks ago in other thing about the the judge comments that you mentioned if you read these transcripts are listen to these interviews every wednesday from nfl head coaches the the opponent that they're playing that week no matter who it is is the best nfl team. That's ever been assembled it. It doesn't matter it doesn't matter who it is it's the best. Nfl team that's ever been assembled with with with just the amount of weapons that you know that we have no chance to stop these guys. That's just how nfl coaches sell it every single week. Yeah yeah no doubt about it. And you know joe judge's certainly going to feed into that narrative i get it and so and you know the eagles could be more explosive. Jalen rager and travis fold them now of hopefully providing some some powers and Dynamism on offense. We might even see. All sean. Jeffrey on the field greg ward some some of those guys and so and of course the explosive boston scott. How do you stop boston. Scott and i mean goodness gracious. I mean miles. Sanders will probably be back this week and i would expect a heavy dose of him but boston. Scott has to be the guy the giants fans have nightmares of. You know. I wrote this week and it's sort of a just just just a funny way of putting it but i wrote that those of us here in new york now. Have a new reason eight boston. That's right now. Obviously we can't. We're we're fifteen minutes into our chat here twenty minutes into our chat here and we haven't really mentioned carson wentz at all and one of the i ask everybody who i talked to on eye on the enemy every week for their opinion on what's going on with carson wentz because we're inside the eagles fish bowl and know. There's all kinds of theories that we have as far as what's happened carson wentz. I don't know if you read sheila. Potty and the athletic former eagles beat writer now he writes nationally for for the athletic but he had a great deep dive into what's going on with carson wentz. I would recommend if you're interested But basically so much going wrong with carson wentz right now that it's really hard to put your finger on any one thing as you sit and you look at eagles team and you see carson wentz. Where are you on. Wentz here in twenty twenty. I don't understand a lot of what. I'm seeing to be honest with you. I don't understand a lot of the of the the decision making in some of the some of the times when you won't just eat the ball or throw the ball away or or things like that. But but here's what i do know from from having watched eli manning over the years right. There are Times in eli manning's career when he was a turnover machine. Okay and i know you can right now. You can make the daniel. Jones comparison. In what i always saw from ally. Manning was when he. He was such a competitor. There were times when he would just say the heck with. I know this is a bad play to make but we're already behind by two scores. I'm gonna throw the ball there anyway and because it doesn't make any difference at this point if it gets picked off or if something bad happens because we're already not winning this game right unless unless we do something dramatic in and i'm wondering especially this year when you watch carson wentz if they're so many injuries around him in so many other things that have gone wrong that that he's just sitting there thinking i have to do more to lift his team half to try to make plays take risks to try to lift this team. And and when you do those things bad things happen more often than good things happen. Yeah no that's totally fair. I think that's absolutely some of what we're seeing is him trying to force. The action forced the issue. And i think there's a fair amount of frustration with coaching staff and a lack of identity with this offense. I don't think the eagles offense and a playcaller no exactly what they want this team to be right now. And there's so there's no cohesion. Doug peterson and frank reich. Where together they were just in lockstep as far as knowing what they wanted to do and it was such a good match doug has had a hard time finding another set of partners another set of coaches that allow for that cohesion to to take place and so i think that also affects carson. We can't forget to carson had a catastrophic knee injury in two thousand seventeen. He just doesn't look physically like he's the same guy in the pocket at this point you know. I think that's i think that's lost on a lot of people. We talk about a lot of different things. I don't think carson is physically the same player that he was a few years ago. That could be as well. You forget about those things you know when you see a guy out there you just assume that he's that he's ready to go. You know whether that's an emotional scar or whether physically. He doesn't move quite as well as he used to. I don't really know. But but those things. Those things definitely could be factors. I last thing here. Let's just talk about the game. is there a. what's what's one key. Matchup that you're keeping an eye on here on sunday. There are obviously many we choose from. But what's one key matchup that that you think could help determine this game for me. It's not necessarily a one on one match up for me..

"The giants are in a situation where you know i. I haven't in-depth studied justin fields or trey lance. You know the the two guys. That are considered dealer top two quarterbacks. But i don't think you can prove to me. I don't think anyone can make an ironclad argument. That either of those guys is going to be a better. Nfl quarterback than daniel jones so the issue for the giants is. Do you spin that wheel or do you just continue to work with daniel. Jones tried to add pieces around him and continue trying to build this thing and daniel jones. I mean there are times he shows so many good things so many good throws he shows so much toughness in the pocket. He shows ability to move and make plays with his legs and into run the zone. Read kind of stuff you know when he can manage to stay on his feet but but you know that that particular play when he fell. Yeah is sort of a microcosm. It's perfect. It's a perfect way to describe. You know a lot of the things about daniel jones so many good things and yet that last little bit to get over the hump just hasn't been there and that's the frustrating part and i have to laugh and i know i'm going on here a little bam daniel. Jones played not a perfect game on sunday against washington but he played his first turnover. Free game of the season okay. And yet he had one ball punched out as he was going out of bounds. Which was considered a fumble even though it was going out of bounds. And you had another ball dropped in picked up you know which was considered a fumble. But he didn't throw any interceptions. He didn't throw any dangerous passes. He didn't turn the ball over. He threw some balls away under duress which has been an issue. He showed progress. He played clean game in the narrative. Here among giants beat writers. The question joe judge daniel. Jones have been getting asked all week is. Why weren't you more aggressive. Like camman. lynn. What are we. What are we talking about. You just played a clean game that you won because you got five turnovers and you didn't. You didn't have any so what what do you want from the guy you've gotta play clean games in. Go from there yeah walk. You can run kind of thing and it seems and again. It was encapsulated in that. Play that he was. He was running faster than he could actually maintain and it gets got ahead of himself and down and that seems to be what happens. Honest to god. That was that was hilarious. And i enjoyed the fact that even his teammates on the sidelines were laughing at him. Yeah when you watch that play you. Can you know it's you can see gets to about the eagles forty yard line and you can see you know. He's like a car. That was leaking oil. Yeah is he gonna get their. I pinpointed a screenshot where you can see the exact moment. His legs decided nope. Nope not gonna. Everybody settled tripped. He didn't trip his legs just gave out on him. It was like but you could see at about the forty yard line. You could just see that that things were starting to breakdown absolutely. It's so funny. But it'll be and they can laugh about it because scored a touchdown on the drive so to to wrap daniel jones up. Though it's i think in the end. I think daniel jones is still the giants quarterback next year beyond that i beyond that i don't know but i think i don't know with where their draft position is going to be. You know they certainly aren't going to be able to to to put together a package of fixing get trevor lawrence in. I just don't know that you can prove that anyone else in the draft is actually going to be better than jones. So i think they just have to look at the positive things and keep building and keep coaching Goes let's talk about. Joe judge a little bit now because i think in the off season there was some concern. About how well the giants would be able to mesh. Because they didn't have the otas they didn't have the the normal lead-up sh they didn't have a you know the preseason games that you would hope to have when you have a new coach who's going to be putting a new system together and there was a lot of talk also in the preseason about some of the stuff joe judge was doing where he's some of the real hardcore like high school type stuff that you would see That maybe if if you didn't win some games players might bristle at some of his old school tactics but it sounds as though he's really got this team playing hard. It sounds as though he's really got this team playing well and i know. Judge is always going to be linked to matt rule of the panthers because the giants were close to a. We're certainly in the mix to hire matt rule at one point during the off season and obviously that all went in a different direction. So there's probably going to be a little bit of a grass is always greener looking at rules. Doing with the panthers and seeing the improvements there. But how has joe judge How has he done getting this giants team to play hard every week because by by all accounts they are playing hard every single week for him. They are playing hard every single week. And i think it's funny. The last time we talked to dave gettleman giants gm before the season he referred to this team. He said they're going to be the fight in joe judge's which that sounds like a high school. Yeah but the thing that judge has done. he's done some some stuff. Like making guys. Ron labs that that drew you drew some some criticism from former players and all of that any. He's run in training camp. Be ransom physical practices and did some live tackling. That you don't see a whole lot in the nfl anymore. But the thing that he has said consistently. And i think you see show up the thing that he has said first of all he said. I'm just trying to teach these guys. Make them understand that there are consequences for mistakes in the other thing. That.

"Bleeding green nation. I'm your host. john. Stolnis you can. Of course follow me on. Twitter at john stolnis. Well this sunday. The eagles have a big first place showdown with the new york giants. Even though both these teams have losing records on even though the nfc east will probably go down in history as the worst division in football lore. This game actually does have big postseason implications for both the eagles and the giants. So we're going to break it all down with ed valentine. The head site manager for the espionage. Giants say big blue view. We're gonna we're gonna break down some of the xs and os and some of the big story lines ahead of sunday's game between the eagles and giants but want to remind you guys make sure you check out bleeding nation dot com every single day for all the latest news and notes on your favorite football team as they get ready for a big match up here on sunday and joining us to talk a little bit about this game coming up here on sunday a battle for first place in the on the always tough. Nfc east is ed ballantyne manager and producer for the giants espy nations side. Big blue view. You can follow ed. And the team's website at big blue view and welcome back to on the enemy. My friend how are you. I'm good thanks for having me john. It's always a pleasure to talk to you and this is the second time this year. We didn't get a chance to do it last time around because it was a thursday night game so schedules were a little bit crunched. But with a little bit more time this week. I'm looking forward to diving in here on round two between the eagles and the giants and go looking back at a couple of weeks ago. It seemed like the giants had that game in hand a couple of different times. If not for an ingram dropped at the end of the game. The giants probably do win that match up. How tough was thursday night. Matchup a couple of weeks ago in philadelphia for giants fans. That was definitely a hard till to swallow. Because you know the giants. The giants had that game in hand out the without the ingram mistake and a couple of of defensive. Mistakes down the stretch You know that was like a lot of giants games have been this year right there to be one and the giants have got to. They simply have to get to the point where they execute down the stretch in win some of those games no doubt about it and you mentioned it. They've played a ton of close games this year. And everything we hear though. Is that when you when you're a rebuilding team. You're not gonna just automatically flip the switch most times and win. You don't automatically those kurt warner rams of ninety nine. You know that those kinds of turnarounds don't happen all that often in one season so it's a slow build and and everything you're hearing is that it sounds like the giants are on that slow build. The record isn't very good but they've played a ton of close games. It seems as though the team is probably better than their record says does the narrative match that reality. I believe that it. Does you know the the the problem. Joe judge talks every single week in every single week. He talks about seeing progress and feeling like the giants are getting better and watch them play. You can see signs of it. You can understand the argument but you know from the outside. You know the media narrative in the fan narrative is look. You're still to in seven in in the last two years. Basically the only team that you've beaten is washington which i think the giants beaten washington five times in a row and you can make the argument that daniel jones is getting better and you can clearly see that the defense is better this year and you can clearly see the last few weeks that the that the offensive line has gotten better in that. They're starting to identify some players. They want to go forward with. But if you want to prove if you really wanna put tangible evidence of getting better down on paper you've got to beat the eagles once in a while and you've got to beat the cowboys. Once in a while the giants had lost fifteen straight games to those two teams. And they're just not going to all of those improvement. Arguments are just not going to be credible until beat those two teams on occasion. Yeah no doubt about it. I mean they are. They obviously need need to figure out a way to beat the eagles and the cowboys. And just looking at this matchup between these two teams over the years the eagles have won specifically with these two teams. Eight straight games over the giants. The eagles have won twelve of the last thirteen meetings and sixteen of the last twenty so clearly. The eagles have had their number here over these last few seasons. You talked about. Joe judge and you talked about daniel jones. Those are two guys. I really want to kind of dive into here. And i wanna start off with a quarterback because with every team it starts. It starts and ends with the quarterback most of the time and daniel. Joe you know there was a lot of talk about carson wentz versus dak prescott when those two guys were we're coming up in their first couple of seasons and it's still out there it's obviously died down a bit with dax injury in carson struggles. But we never really had dwayne haskins versus daniel jones argument because neither of those guys really kind of establish themselves. Although you know. Dwayne haskins is definitely on the outside washington whereas daniel jones is still at least from my perspective. The team's franchise quarterback although with all the turnovers in the uneven play he's shown flashes you but he's kind of been turnover machine for the giants his first two seasons on a scale of one to ten. How confident are you that daniel jones is the long-term answer at quarterback for new york. All a scale of one to ten. I'm probably a maybe in the six range. Okay here's the here's the thing. I think the giants really want him to succeed. Okay the the reality of it is the giants as the there to in seven. The jets aren't winning two games this year period. They're not winning two games now. I don't care you know you could put the local high school varsity out there. And i don't think the jets are winning twice in the last seven games. I don't care they'll do everything they can to make sure they don't win. Two games absolutely so. The jets are drafting. trevor lawrence. Giants have no shot at trevor lawrence. Laureates in my my.

"As you said, people don't recognize what what the giants have become. So I guess. I guess to ask a question instead of make a speech here you quit when you look at when you look at my Tomlin. Think he's been there since two thousand and seven and it looks like he's going to be there at this point until he decides he doesn't want to be. Has has there ever come a point? Where you thought the steelers might or might have to move on from Tom One. That's a really difficult question because if you were to poll the steelers fan base, you would probably be split fifty fifty. There's a lot of fans I'm one of them. I like Mike. Tomlin I think he's a motivator and I think that in professional sports in general across the landscape I feel like motivators are not as common as they once were and you think about great coaches whether it's Lombardi or if you WanNa, go into other sports with Phil Jackson with the Bulls if they knew how to motivate even the best. Players in Mike Tomlin is cut from that cloth and I have always appreciated that does he have his words absolutely then again, show me coach that doesn't I would be stunned us tell me there's anyone even bill belichick has issues. He's not the best drafter. You know I mean he gets the most out of his team. But at the same time, he does have his own issues I. Think Mike Tomlin is reaching the point though in his career where he's been doing it a long time, you're right since two, thousand seven. But the Rudy's are their patient to appoint that they need to see results against miss the playoffs the last two seasons. He's never had a losing record, which is amazing. He's at eight eight. That's the worst. It's ever done since two, thousand, seven and. I think that this is the year especially with the expanded playoffs day-to-day. If he misses the playoffs, he could be in trouble I'm not saying he's going to get fired, but he's definitely going to be put on notice and also I look at him as a family man and his son is now playing his older son is playing football for the University of Maryland and I could see them be. I could see it very quickly maybe in the next three or four years, Tomlin. Saying accounts done and they'll coward the same thing next year he'll equalled bill cowers time in Pittsburgh as a head coach I could see him being I wanna go and see my sons play football. He probably be have multiple offers from multiple television stations him to get on the air because he's such a good speaker. I don't know like I said I like Tomlin but there's a lot of people that don't, and so there's a lot of people that would say they want common gone for a multitude of reasons. So there's two sides of the coin. I suppose that it's like anything else familiarity breeds contempt a little bit people see the warts and refused to let go of the might just know that if Tom were step aside at whatever point in the next couple of years. We would have a sort of bill cower situation where for the next ten or twelve years his name POPs up with everyone coaching opening that comes along. Absolutely I guarantee I always tell people. If you get rid of a coach, would someone covid that coach of the steelers were to fire Air Mike? Tomlin would might be coveted amongst probably twenty eight to twenty nine NFL organizations in the NFL. Yes, me that's a resounding. Yes, and so you have to ask yourself why would we want to get rid of that if it's still viewed as a as a commodity amongst the rest of the League's in terms of the organizational help that he would provide so when you will get it that way I don't I think the steelers would be foolish to let him go if he chooses to walk away different story. Right. So let's a Jeff. Let's let's turn the topic away from from the head coach Let's talk about about the quarterback a little bit, and it's interesting because when I talk about the steelers when I write about the steelers over the years, it's always been compare Ben. Rothlisberger. Eli Manning. Obviously. We can't do that anymore because Eli has chose to retire in which I supported. I'm glad that I'm glad to see Eli having played only as New York giant. I find it weird that that Philip rivers is now a member of of the of the colts I find it weird Tom Brady. IS PLAYING IN TAMPA Bay I'm glad that he lied chose to end his career as a New York giant. But what I really want to focus on rothlisburger missed last year had what I believe was Tommy John Surgery to reconstruct his elbow played only two games last year excuse me what are the expectations for him does? Does it sound like he's completely healthy? Does it sound like? Like there's any worry about that elbow and about how much he'll be able to throw and and whether he'll be able to to make any of the any of the longer throws any of the the deep throws that really require you know having some zip on the ball. I think there's always anytime you have a throw or whether it's a pitcher or quarterback anytime you have a thrower undergo emmy type of surgery to they're throwing arm upon their return. There's going to be hesitation there's going to be concerned and there's GonNa be a heightened sense of what's going to happen now so far throughout training camp at Heinz field was dead Avenue Heinz field this year..

"A giants fans. Ed Valentine back here on the Valentine's views podcast and we're talking with big blue view contributor nick FA- Lotto about the upcoming NFL scouting. Combine Nick. We talked a lot about About the offensive players That could be available to the giants at number four. Obviously let's take chase young out of the equation because everybody considers him to be the you know the number basically the best player in the draft and and if he somehow sitting there at number four you know that's a no brainer. I mean I I I would actually like to see how fast Dave gettleman could get out of his chair and get over the table and and get that card up to To to select chase young. If if that were to happen I would. I would love to get video of that to be honest with you. But look at the other defensive guys. We're talking Isaiah. Simmons were talking. Jeffrey Okuda were talking even Derrick Brown. You know the big defensive tackle from Auburn is it. Is it in your mind. Is there a clear favourite out of those guys? If the giants were to go defense at four a clear favorite. You know that you would like to see them. Grab if they were to go. Four Mike Clear favourite would be Isaiah Simmons just because he is such a chess piece that I feel Patrick. Graham would do an excellent job employing and I feel like defensive coordinator. It would be hard to not employ him the right way because he can do so many different things he play in the box he could row. Rove around the line of scrimmage which is something that Patrick Graham did a lot on third down would have one or two down linemen and then just have about four edge to linebacker players roaming keeping the offense of lyman on their toes and blitzing slanting doing things like that upon the snap and I realize as Simmons would accelerate auto dropped back play. Safety can play nickel in the slot. You could do that. He's shown that he's really good and coverage against tight end so I feel like he would be a headache for any offense coordinator facing the New York giants and I would love to have a player like that at the second level of the giants defense. Something that China's just have not had so long at second level impact player since can also blitz off the edge and do so many different creative things so it would be Isaiah Simmons for me. I do look at Jeffrey Okuda. Though to and I I'm a fan of de'andre Veliky finished the year much better than the start and I feel like James Becher system is incredibly difficult to kind of comprehend with the pattern match schemes and things like that a lot of Bologne coverages but even though I became a fan of Baker. I still feel the giants need to bring in another number one so the war to be Jeffrey Okuda. Somebody who can play man coverage physical. At the line of scrimmage things that you're looking for can tackle do all those things not afraid of contact. I wouldn't mind that either. I would like for the giants trade back again. Kind of what? I'm hoping happens unless she's young does fall because I do feel like the giants just need more picks to help this. Rosser as I already said. Dave gettleman isn't really used to trading back but those would be the to kind of jump in my mind. The giants did trade back. Let's play the scenario on a little bit. The giants did trade back. You have guys like Klay. Beyond chasing them. I always like kind of mess up his name a little bit but he is from Lsu and he finished the year incredibly strong. I WANNA get four sacks and six games but there wasn't a lot of production at Lsu when he dealt with a lot of injuries but he's one of those edge type players that are incredibly flexible. Something you'll probably see the run the hoop drill which the new drove for the demands of lion coming at the combine. They're going to be basically running in like a theory around hoops. Really just a showcase hip and knee flexibility. Like he's going to go to the combine and had been credibly. Could combine down there in Indianapolis and then you have players like Aj up an ESA who was stronger. More power based edge player. Much of the giants would go that directions. They do sign Leonard Williams. But he's somebody who you can't really go wrong with. He's not overly. I mean he's athletic. Don't get me wrong. But he's not the chase young or the cheesy on kind of athlete but he's just incredibly powerful very technically sound getting coming from Iowa. Well coached there. Were Kirk parents. So I look if you're going in the second round maybe later Joshua J. Atom Michigan. He went down to the head. Incredibly solid outing out there in mobile very very flexible explosive kind of player. People are saying that he might be tween her. How are we GONNA use them? 'cause he's only like two hundred and forty pounds but I felt like Jane money down there in mobile and he can go to combine and do the same thing. If you kinda shows that he has a ten yard split in the explosive numbers see what is three cone is that Bradley is another edge that you can get later. Shore arms but a lot of production at Utah and he also went down to mobile. Have pretty solid outing. So I'm looking at the edge position. 'cause the giants really need to lock that down? You got to look at the linebacker position and the state and it's really all levels air but just to go back to the beginning of the question as as would be there you go. That's a that's a long winded answer boat but we got it and we got a lot of scouting reports on a few other guys. I did want to ask you. We get to the onfield workouts on Thursday. Now I'm actually going to be an Indie I'll get. I'll get there Monday night. So I'm going to be there Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and my thing while I'm there is going to be trying to get as many interviews trying to get as much audio. You know trying to get around and and meet as many of these players as I can and try to bring some flavor you know to big blue readers and listeners of our podcast of what these guys are all about but for in for most fans for most folks. The combine starts on Thursday when we see the onfield workouts. Just give me you. You've mentioned a few guys already. But give me a few guys who who might be. You know mid round late round guys guys who. You're really looking forward to watching at the combine to see what they do. You know especially guys you think might be might be on the giants radar. I think Akeem Dave is gaither. He's a linebacker from Appalachian State. I feel like he's somebody who's incredibly athletic moves very well in space does solid job in zone coverage from the little bit. I saw him coming at Appalachian State but he was at the senior bowl and linebacker drills that I did witness down there he performed at a high level. I think he's somebody really really good athlete a longer player. I believe he's only about six one or six two but he has longer arms. He's somebody I feel like that could be on the giants rapport that second level defender and then I look at some of the defensive backs both safeties from Utah as Julian. Black men and Tyrrell Burgess Blackman's a little bit more of that cupboard one high guy that you look for. And then Burgess. She had a couple nice interceptions on this year. He's a little more physical. I feel both of those guys are people that I'm looking at Jeremy Chin from southern Illinois. Now he's rocked up dude. I know he's coming from Southern Illinois. Fcs school it's not exactly big. But he went down to mobile and he played his bottom off to be honest he played incredibly well. Opened is because people have a lot of questions about him can he compete with Division One athlete? Come from the SEC. In the big ten in you know what he did. I'm hoping for the giants that he could be. Maybe in the fourth round or something like that but that may be seen in my sneak into the third round. I believe when I'm looking at some of the offensive players. It really comes down to those offense of Lyman. I want to see them in the new mirror drills that are coming because again the combine. It's changing obviously now the the drills at night and they're adding new drills every well they added a bunch of new drills this year and a new mirror drill new screen. Jill's to kind of see how these players operating space for evaluating that top pick. WanNa see how you know becton words who I believe will really do well on that drill wills how they operate in. Space Thomas as well and I think Jeff. Thomas is the receiver from Miami. Who might be an underrated guy to watch to kind of set the forty on this? Obviously the favorite right now is Henry. Rugs you got jaylen Reagan from TCU. Jeff Thomas from Miami. He's an incredibly fast player. He's somebody to watch as well when it comes to just the speed and when I'm looking at some of the receivers going to be a lot of big bodies here a lot of people like to look receivers. I'M GONNA Tonio Gandhi golden from liberty. He was down at the senior bowl he played well. What's his forty time going to be if he could run those four fives? That's going to be really solid for him. Denzel if he can run in that those low four fives Van Jefferson. It'd be running the force that would do well for them again very very very deep wide receiver class. I'm a big fan of Brandon I you from Arizona State. He was down in mobile but he had a core issue so we couldn't play. He should be training at combine. Now WanNa see what he runs as well because a lot of these bigger body. I mean Jason Garrett like those X. Receivers people bringing that up lot you gotTa Chase Klay. Pool is going to be down there from Notre Dame. He's another really big body about a biscuit away from being a tight end I think if he wants more in the four five that would do him well to all right so what I did want to ask you. You mentioned the fact that you were down in mobile at the senior bowl now. The senior bowl practice week and what we see at the combine are vastly different at the combine. We see guys in you know in shorts and t shirts we see guys running drills we see guys being tested purely on various forms of athleticism at senior bowl. We see a whole lot more one on one blocking drills one on one receiver versus cornerback kinds of drills with for you as an evaluator for you..

"I'm your host Ed Valentine and we can we can dispense with with all of that today's to show a quick hit on the breaking news that ally manning is no longer the giants starting quarterback job now belongs to Daniel Jones Pat Shurmur and the giants made that announcement on Tuesday morning. We all knew that was coming still. It's it's a stunning thing to think that that you know manning's been the quarterback since two thousand and four and really for the first time since then we have a new quarterback in place for the New York giants that the giants have have embraced moving to the future will go to Daniel Jones and we'll see where things go from there to help me help me kind of make sense of this and and break down everything that's going on. Let me bring in Patricia trainor Patty. How are you wow ed. I was hoping for a quiet Tuesday and a busy Wednesday but it looks like we're getting started early. Oh we're getting both both patty. Were getting both say we all knew today was coming at some point and and I think we all knew when Pat Shurmur floated the idea India on Monday that that he wasn't committing to Eli. I think we all knew this was coming and yet it's still what kind of a jarring realization that the Eli Manning era as quarterback is over it really is and now there's no turning back you know this this is Daniel. Jones is shipped. Iran and you know we'll see what happens. I mean the more for sample size. He creates the more you know. We'll we'll be able to determine how successful he'll be but certainly his performance in the preseason his performance and limited time in the week one game all very encouraging signs and like you said it's now his show to run you have any thoughts on the on the more or less quick hook here for Eli Manning on the on the quick decision to go to Jones after only two games. I'm a little surprised I thought ally would get at least four games before. They pulled the hook on him. I thought he would potentially stay in there as long as they had a chance to to be competitive have a chance to be in the playoff hunt and I know people are GonNa snicker when I say that but the reality is is the giants haven't been eliminated and if you you know teams have started out Owen to and I know it's a small sample size but they have turned it around finish strong the giants however they are not just the player or two away they have problems on both sides of the ball defense which they think they're going to be fine. They think that you know with with more reps together that defense is going to gel but really on offense it was time you know as much as we appreciate. Eli As much as we might love him as a quarterback as as a person as a professional he was not in the long term plans of this team and it just didn't make sense if you were GonNa go and revamped the defense and and you know look towards the future there. Why were you holding onto you know the last of the the two thousand and four draft class there on your team and and just not looking ahead at that point? I know that Dave gettleman has has often said you know you can win while you're build or rebuild and I David hates the word rebuild but for me one of the things that I wrote about Tuesday morning at big blue view was that for years it seems seems like the giants have taken half-measures have taken a step here in a step there and not fully embraced. Maybe what what they needed to do to push the organization forward and this finally to me feels like embracing embracing. Okay we understand what we are. We understand that that the future is more important than the present and we just. We have to do everything we can to be ready for that future. Just your thoughts on on that sort of train taught patty. I agree with you at I mean look. Everybody knows who's followed me. Who's read me that I I've defended. Eli and I believe Steve and I will continue to believe that the organization didn't always do him right with personnel decisions with with coaching decisions and what have have you but with that said you know we saw limitations from Eli we saw signs of him starting to decline fine and slow down and it was just you know the guy can't play forever and as much as maybe you'd like to see him play forever. He's just not the same quarterback he was was when he was put Unquote Bitch Eli back in two thousand eleven so it just you know sometimes. You need to shake things up now. Now some and people will say and I know you've said this that the giants should've done this years ago when they swept out you know Tom Coughlin at that time they should have probably made a clean sweep and just started from scratch. I think they you know maybe realized that it was too late to do that or for whatever reasons maybe they didn't feel. They had the the best options available at that time but they finally now have a new. GM They have a new relatively new head coach a new quarterback the giants nights are going to move forward now and they're going to. They're going to take some months this year because you know Jones is GonNa go through. Some growing pains like every rookie does but these are growing pains instead of going to serve this franchise well into the coming years as much as we hate this for Eli Manning. I think you and I have both said that you know over over a period of time. When you stop and you think about it in some ways I mean this is actually an exciting decision decision and in in some ways you know whether the giants win games or lose games or whatever their ultimate record turns out to be this season. I think it adds some excitement to the rest of the season because now we kind of have some growth in some development to look forward to yeah. I think so and you know what's going to be interesting for me. At is the giants as far as I know at least as we record this is going to be the number two quarterback and I'm going to be very interested to see what happens. How giants handle this moving forward because it's kind of like you know ally at this point is a larger than life personality even though he's always been reserved and bland and whatnot but his mere your presence there. I'm just curious to see how they handle it so that Jones doesn't necessarily feel overshadowed by the presence of Manning. I'm sure they have a plan for this but sometimes when you have a a larger than life or a legend behind you just kind of like peering down it can be somewhat intimidating dating and I just think that maybe subconsciously we won't really see the best of the annual Jones until after ally has gone off into the sunset onset patty. That's an interesting point. One of the things that that I've already been asked this morning is in regards to how Eli would react act to this. I expect nothing class from Eli Manning. I expect him to handle this with grace. I expect to see him do what he he can to help Daniel Jones. I don't expect to see him. Make any waves at all. I mean he's he's been a class act for sixteen years now and and I don't expect to see any of that. Change your thoughts on that. Yeah I agree with you. Ally Manning has been a model citizen in the locker room room just model individual. He's never had a bad thing to say about anybody. He's taken I think way more of the the blame that he should because football is a team sport and I think he's got a lot more blame for the giants misfortunes over the years but this is is a guy who has been class act and you know you ask anybody associated with the team behind the scenes they will tell you that manning has always spin the consummate professional. He has answered questions. You know I know in the past. He said look. It's not my job to be. You know the backups coach whatever but he's never withheld information. He's never been a jerk about. It and I don't think you could ask for anything more than than what has brought to that room and what he's going to continue to to that room. I mean book. He's a competitor. I'm sure he's not happy with the decision. I'm sure he does a like or agree with the decision but he's never been about himself. He's always been about the franchise and I don't expect that to change alright patty. I think that with with that said I think will call it a show for today. I think it's a really you know it's. It's just a crazy time. You and I are both be out at the at the facility acidity on Wednesday. I'm sure it's going to be a crazy day with a with a media mob out there so you know get your get your your catcher's this gear on and and get ready to to to deal with the mob. I'm GonNa get a good night's. Sleep tonight at is going to get to bed early. We have an early start tomorrow and you're right. It's going to be a a media crowd. I I'd be shocked if it's not immediate crowd that equals what we have seen in the past for playoff games. Thanks all right Patty. I'll see you there. Thank you very much and thank you for listening. Giants fans will talk to you soon bye the are you.

"Continue to play if and when they fall out of contention or if they get off to a one six start like they did last year one and seven you start then there's no reason for many to play the knee simply have to go to jones and i think that's i think that's how it's gonna go comas. The giants consider themselves go to be a playoff contending team today with you like talking with ed valentine of big blue view and the valentine's view podcast part of the s._p. Nation family of podcasts which <hes> this podcast is part of as well good to have ed with us talking about the quote unquote dress rehearsal coming up here <hes> ed. It's it's really difficult to kind of. Sit here and talk about you know. What are you looking to see out of out of a preseason game. I mean obviously you wanna see the lower end depth chart guys you wanna see who maybe make some place to <hes> make kamenica rosser bid but these teams are kind of in a lot of people's is in a similar boat but potential rebuild coach early if not starting their new tenure with the team <hes> you know a lot of some veterans that are maybe on the hot seat a little bit so mean i guess what what are giants fans hoping you too and the giants themselves what what are they hoping to take away from this game because obviously the wins and losses don't truly matter in the summer but what are they looking to really achieve or take away aside from staying pretty healthy well. I think you always want in whatever limited fashion your starters play. You want to see something. That looks like competent football. Something gives you confidence going forward forward for example in the opening preseason game for the giants. Starting offense in the starting defense basically played one. You're you're on offense. The giants went three and out in on defense. The evil belong driving touchdown last last friday against the bears same scenario where the offense basically plate one series the defense played a little bit longer than that but but you gotta touchdown drive out of the offense and you've got a stop for a field goal you know out of the defense so so you saw you saw some better play. You saw some competent play and i think that's that's all you want. Out of. Your starters is something that looks like incompetent play but for me at this point won't be what tomorrow night will be nine days away from teams having to set their fifty three man dan rosters so it's all about looking for those guys at the end of the roster. You know those guys. Every teams got bobo players. Every tamed got decisions to make every teams looking for help across the league so for me. It's all about those guys who are going to win. Those last year roster spots you know one player on either side of the ball that bengal span should keep out for me. Not just off color has john roster. Who who is that guy in order to be name name no more for tomorrow night well. I don't know if i don't know if it's a guy that's exactly what you're you're talking about here but the guy that i think anyone across the n._f._l. Should probably be aware of at this point. What is cory ballantyne. The sixth round pick out washburn. If you know his story the giants drafted him in the sixth round. You went out that night with sprint twain simmons and they were victims of a drive by shooting in which ballantine was hurt. His friend simmons was was killed and this kid since he came back and since he rejoined the team this kid has done nothing nothing but shown class in the way that he handled himself in the way that he stood in front of the media and explained what happened you know he's tried to move forward and right now the amazing thing about this he he's not a sixth round draft pick he. He doesn't look anything like a six round draft..

"I'm your host Ed Valentine of Big Blue View in today's show we are going to be discussing the continuation of giants training camp as is the giants prepare for the two thousand in nineteen season. We will also have a special guest for you as we will be joined in a little bit by by a good friend of big blue view Dave t thomas who is a long-time n._F._l.. Scout Director of Scouting Services Mrs Inc and has done work at the N._F._l.. Draft Report. You've seen some of his work here at big blue view over the years as Dave has been kind enough to share some scouting reports with us. Some of his draft related information Dave t is always entertaining A. and Informative and I'm sure that you'll enjoy listening to him when we get to the interview that he and I recorded in just a little bit all right I though a a couple of thoughts on Tuesdays giants practice I was not in attendance today in East Rutherford but but sounded like Eli Manning had a nice day sounded like rookie quarterback. Daniel Jones had a little bump in the road today little bit up and down those things though are to be expected expected as the young man develops no big deal nothing to be alarmed about today at Big Blue View. You'll find stories on Eli Manning hang on what he said. When he met the media on Tuesday morning also a nice story on Dexter Lawrence he also met the media dexter of of course is playing defensive end seventeenth overall pick little bit surprising to some that he's being used as an end and not as a nose tackle that particular the topic is addressed in the story and also some information on how he's doing and how he's developing as a pass rusher speaking of pass rush rush? I also had an opportunity to speak with former Arizona cardinals edge rusher marcus golden who is now with the giants on a one one year prove it deal gold and told me that he is healthy looking forward to the two thousand in nineteen season and still believes that he can return to his two thousand and sixteen twelve and a half sack form now that he's another year removed from the surgery he had in two thousand thousand seventeen for the torn A._C._l.. that he suffered also wanted to mention those of you who listen to the podcast that Dan Poodle and Chris Phlegm have been doing here on Biglou view radio those of you who listen to that already know that that Dan is moving on from big blue view..

"Your home near content you see a life studying interior team, Ed Valentine managing editor, DV gone. Oh man. R J is as as much as we get along. You always you always liked to throw in a little dig their, you know. But, but I'll, I'll let that go, we do get along. It's, you know, believe it or not Cowboys fans and giants fans you know, we can manage to get along. So there is that, you know, and we do have that, that come, and EMMY in Philly that wears green. Yeah. So just, just as an aside, our J before we get. Into our topic today. It is amazing to me how no matter who I'm talking to from whatever team I'm talking to the conversation. Always manages to turn around or come around to hell lousy eagles fans are. It's one of those things it's like people used to say like everybody is six two days away from Kevin bacon. Like, in terms of life, for, or whatever we're all every conversation in the world is six degrees away from discovering. The eagles fans are the most vile. I say that, by the way, you and I were talking on Tuesday, this is going to drop on Wednesday. I just made an appearance on BGN radio. So I feel kinda bad trashing than well. No, no, no. You're, you're, you're fortunate that you that, that we're doing this now. And you've done your BGN already if you're fortunate because, you know, then then you'd have to you'd have to defend yourself. I just had Lindsay Jones of the athletes, gray the big view podcast, and we're talking about NFL training camps. In the fact that teams so often or so many teams don't involve fans as much as they used to. She lauded. The Cowboys incidentally for, for how fan-friendly their you know, their training camp is, but I had to twist the knife on Lindsey because she actually made the mistake of in, in a recent column predicting that the New York Jets would win a Super Bowl before the giant another Super Bowl and I just I just couldn't let that go. I don't blame you for that. Certainly that's that's too far. You know, there's a line and Lindsey cross. And I said, I said, you just can't do that. Yeah, you're right, though. I'll be at a training camp in pink, like five weeks issue hours. Go for a week in your ride, and Lindsay's. Right. It's so fan-friendly and it does help that you're in California. You know, the practices are at three PM Kelly time, and it feels great. You know, the sun is beating on you, but you really don't notice it just because of the weather. It's, it's an overall spectacular environment. How is giants training camp? For people that don't know giants training camp. I started covering giants training camp in two thousand seven to two thousand eight and giants training camp used to be in Albany, New York, which is twenty minutes away from my house, on a college campus, university of all Binnie. And it was it was great because they had five fields there could sit in the grass, they could bread blankets out on a lot of the fields. The only thing separating fans from the team was like a little three foot high wouldn't, you know, wouldn't pick it fence kind of thing you know, people in and players had to walk through what they used to call autograph alley, where to get in and out of practice everyday they had to walk through the fans. That's it. And that was really cool. You know, they used to stay in Albany, they'd be out in the community every night. So. So now training camp is at their facility in East Rutherford. And I get it because they have three and a half practice fields there. They have an indoor bubble. They have everything they need in terms of equipment, but but fans sit in, you know, makeshift bleachers in a parking lot. Sure, you.

"One of the more interesting teams entering the NFL draft is the giants. Let's chat some giants football with Ed Valentine from big blue view in fall at big blue view on Twitter at big blue view. Ed. Thank you so much things time this one, and we really appreciate it. Thank you for having you anytime. So before we get into the draft stuff. Ed, this is one of the more fascinating teams in the NFL right now. What do you make of this back and forth between Dave Gettleman who said, they don't have a culture preventing more there in New York and Oto Beckham junior come into the defense on Twitter saying, I'm not a cancer to team in less. We're bad ask my teammates. What'd you make of that back and forth? Well, I I've been waiting for that shoot a drop to tell you the truth because Beckham wasn't gonna be silent forever. I mean, I look at hotel. And and and he's gonna like the Chiltern low right now, you know, he didn't want to go. And of course, he's going to take some shots at cattleman. And I don't know that all the things get said were directed at oakdale. I think he was included in some of that. But but yeah, I not surprised to Bill taking some shots at at at Gettleman. I just kind of wondered how long would take him to get around to that the question I would have about going back to the Odell Beckham junior trade is based on something that Dave got them and said recently where he said he still thinks that he lied manning is a lot left in the tank. So I would ask you if he actually believes which I quite frankly, don't believe, but if he believes that he has a lot left in the tank, why would he trade away one of the top three receivers in the NFL? If he still believes allies the guy. I think that the way he would explain it. I think that you know, what what the giants fell. I think. I think they were very very unhappy with Odell after eighteen him all that money. Last your you know, that that he went ESPN and sit some of the things about meeting day. Instead, some of the things about New York City. They said. Don't go throw your quarterback under the bus, and basically say you don't like to city when team just handed to ninety five million dollars. And you know, what for you know, what franchise playing for and what quarterback you're playing for in. And I think that that the giants just note like what like they just didn't want to deal with with Dell anymore and in other way, gentleman put it was they turned they turned one really good asset into what they hope will be three good assets. And I think that's that's where they are. They're still building, you know. And that wasn't gonna win a championship. I think is the way they felt about it. So let's turn it into multiple assets. And see if we can do better. Chan with Ed Valentine from big blue view. All right. So now, everybody's going back and forth. And what the giants are going to do with this six picks. We've heard they don't like Dwayne Haskins. Now, they do like twain Haskins. You don't really know what's going on there. And what do you think they're going to do with that six pick? Oh, good question. The crazy thing is I I think there's one of two things that could happen here. I think there are couple of defense of players that Dave Gettleman would really really love to see all the number six. I think if someone like the one that I keep coming back to its Quinton Williams defensive tackle from Alabama gave Clinton Williams somehow manages to fall to number six. And who knows if the jets the jets trade out at number three? In oakland. Does something crazy at number four, you know, that Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock would never do anything insane. So if something crazy happens in Queen Williams, the number six, I think that Dave Gettleman will will take quitting Williams. No matter who else is there is if you know one of those guys quitting Williams. Josh Allen isn't sitting narrate numbers fix. I Jones as much as the draft Twitter thinks insane. I he might just take Jones. And and and you know, take quarterback and move on. Okay. So if that does happen and Daniel Jones most people have them rank either as third of the fourth prospect in this draft in terms of the quarterback position. So Ed if that does happen and last year, of course, we know and giants fans, of course, no that they decided to pass on Sam darnold to take the running back and saquon Barkley, and they passed on the other quarterbacks in that draft, you they could've had and Rosen or Alan how do you think it'll be perceived there in New York if they end up with six pick with Daniel Jones considering all the other chances they've had at quarterbacks over the past few years. I basically think that there will be a lot of free moats thrown it a lot of television. I I don't know. I don't know in the end if if they do that. All right. I think people will stomach it better. If they take him, let's say, they don't take him and six, and and maybe they trade up and take him at eleven or twelve or he falls to seventeen and they take Jones. I think people might stomach that a little bit better. Even if he's not there their Cup of tea as as their quarterback of choice in this strapped. But if he if he take Jones at six, I think there's going to be just a section of giants fans just going to be absolutely up in arms that Valentine from big blue. That's part of nation. Fo- big blue view on Twitter at big blue view. Okay. So what is it that the giants like more about Daniel Jones than say Dwayne Haskins because the perception from everybody else's that Haskins is the better player. I understand there is the relationship with David cut cliff who coach ally and whatnot. But what is it? The giants organizationally like more about Jones than Haskins. Well, again, we're we're sort of you know, we're sort of reading pain leaves here and piecing things together. And I think, you know, some of the cut cliff connection some of the fact that that already has a relationship with ally manning, and he's worked with ally at the passing cat Amies. And and things like that. Some of that plays into it. I, you know, it's interesting because I think that that NFL like general managers and scouts and people inside the NFL light gang Jones, a whole lot more than people outside the NFL to. And then you're you're drafting that you read on on media websites and all of that. It's interesting. It's gonna be interesting to see who who gets proven right in the long run. I think part of it to be honest. Dave cattleman is he don't give them a traditionalist. She's an older general manager, I think Daniel Jones because of his similarities to ally manning and a lot of ways. A little bit more mobile. Obviously moves a little better. He's he's obviously younger I think Daniel Jones just make the gentleman comfortable. I think the fact that he's got, you know, more experienced than a dialect cash in. I I I honestly think that it comes down to comfort level. And when you look at it at where the other places the giants are going to go after that six pick and seventeen we know quarterback and edge rusher. Two things they're looking for. But where are the other areas they need to upgrade throat this draft? If you look at it. They have to up create defensively and everybody focuses on edge rusher. But you can look all through that defense. You can look at cornerback. You can look at interior defensive line Depp. If they can find. Cover you know, that would be good if they can find a free safety to learn from Antoine buffet. That would be good. They obviously could use enough into tackle they could use a wide receiver. So there's a lot of ways that they can go, but I think that their primary focus other than other than quarterback if they choose to go that way, the primary focus has got to be in collecting some defensive talent regardless of position. Hey, Ed before we let you go. I'm interested because we saw that they signed golden Tate to that thirty seven and a half million dollar deal. They brought back sterling Shepard they made the trade in the off season for getting rid of Livia Vernon bringing in Zeitler to help out lie in that offensive line. And they say all this stuff about he li- how they still think there's a lot left in the tank to the giants believe that they're close to getting back in the postseason organizationally is our they add today think they're just. A few steps away from gang like a legitimate contender in the division. Again. I I think that they understand that. They're roster isn't what you would call a championship caliber roster at this point. I think they know what sort of hole they have. I think they're in that position where they would like to sort of Neak into tournament, you know, win nine games, maybe ten games and and sneak into the playoffs. They don't want. They don't want to be one of these. They don't wanna go three and thirteen or five and eleven every year. They don't wanna blow everything up, and and take this as in, you know, and so people were going to be terrible that, but I think they understand that they have a ways to go to get back to that that top level him. But they'd like to take like to think that if that if things go right for them. They can win nineteen and sneak into the playoffs. I think is where they really are. Are. All right. Ed. Thank you so much for the time today and have fun on Thursday night. Because I can't imagine having a better team to cover on draft night than the New York Giants with six and the seventeenth pick. And all that could happen with Dave Gettleman motive acts. It's awesome. Unpredictable in the NFL thing. No doubt about it. That's F Valentine from big blue view, it's part of being nation. "Uh-huh. Welcome to a special edition of the big big Boyd Bod cast. Dan, is you to join tear by Chris Chris how you doing? Pretty good. All right. Good to hear. So what we are doing today is we are going to react and break down the giants pick in the Espy nation NFL writers mock draft. So this is now the thirteenth year that as a nation has done this. They have all of the head writers for their team blogs and make picks for a mock draft. And we're going to talk about who was picked by Ed Valentine made the pick for the New York Giants. So that's just our topic here today. So before we get into who the giants picked we're going to just give you an update on who was picked you'll be able to read these on Espy nation dot com. All of these picks will be up by the time. It's gets posted. So we'll go from pick number one that a lot of surprises here. Arizona selected Tyler Murray. I overall San Francisco took edge Nick Bosa from Ohio State. Number two, the jets at number three to Josh Allen edge from Kentucky Oakland, number four to Quin Williams interior defensive line from Alabama. The big surprise. I guess here is Tampa Bay at five took Ed all of her interior defensive line from Houston. So that left the giants with options all be quarterback a couple other options at edge rusher. But Ed went with Devon white the linebacker from LSU, a Chris what are your initial thoughts about this pick? Honestly, I if that came to pass I would be surprised will get into why based on who else is on the board. But also, I'm not sure if I would be happy or upset with this pick white is different way is almost. Two two different prospects at the same time for me. It's an interesting take. I think is the best way to put it. I think just from a positional values standpoint. And of course, we know the general manager of the New York Giants does not really care about that. So I believe it. He officially classified it as a crock several cross we've found out. Yep. So when you looking at that taking a running back second overall last year and then Liden backer. An awful again off ball linebacker six overall this year, not the greatest look. But there's something about Devon white. I think he's the clear consensus number one off ball linebacker. He is super athletic graded, second in spark the ninety third percentile. And again that is a composite athleticism metric so ninety third percentile among all NFL off ball. Packers. So he has that going for them. It has been very good against the run..

"Been in for Alex gold here on the gold standard and L Beckham junior is certainly the biggest story in sports right now. The giants, of course, delta away to the Cleveland Browns yesterday that deal became official at four PM eastern earlier today and the aftermath in the ramifications of that deal remained large for the New York Giants. Now joining us here on our SP nation radio. Guests hotline, the talk all things big blue is nations own big blue view, founder and writer at Ballantyne. Ed, we appreciate your time today. Matt how are you? I'm good. Thanks for having me. Absolutely. So I'll ask you this to start things off. I mean now you've had a day to kind of look at the details over the trade and kind of process. How it unfolded? What are your thoughts on the giants decision here to get rid of OBGYN? Well, I'm still like a lot of other people. I'm still, you know, pretty stunned that were here at this point weird so much so much chatter lately that things might happen. But even you know up until you know, a little bit more than twenty four hours ago. What we were what we were hearing was people might be calling. But the giants aren't really putting Beckham on the market. And the next thing, you know, he's he's a Cleveland Brown. So it's it's a stunning development. It finally for the giants isn't a mission that they're that. They're in a rebuild that they have to start over. That, you know, from their perspective, the relationship with Odell just wasn't going to work, you know. And and you know, and now we see if if Dave Gettleman can put this back together. I mean at how did we get to this place where a year ago, Dave Gettleman and the giants they gave OB J the biggest contract ever given out to a wide receiver. And here we are a year later, and you know, without any notice a just like that obe- Jay is now no longer on this team. The giants are moving on. I mean, how did we get to this point? And and kind of what is the sense of direction now for this giants team? Well, you know there there's two different questions there. How did we get here? You know, the the sense that I had even when the giants gave Beckham, you know, the the mega contract that they gave him the sense that that I that I had was that they gave him that money. But they weren't a hundred percent certain that that was a great idea. They had a new coach and new GM. And they didn't really want to blow things up right from the beginning. I think they just kinda help their breast, you know, that things would work out, and, you know, from their perspective, they haven't, you know, Odell you took the money from the giants. Then he then he went on ESPN, and he basically threw manning under the bus, and you know, he kind of hinted that well, you know, I got all this money. But but maybe I don't really like New York all that much. You know? And and so I think you right away. There was this whole, you know, why did we sign this guy? You know, we we did he sell us a Bill of goods just to get the money, you know. And then I what I heard today was there was some there was some disagreement over how badly hurt he was at the end of the season when he missed a few games with a quad injury. So I just think there wasn't really a there was a lack of trust to there between the two sides. I think Ed Valentine with us here on ESPN radio Espy nations. Big blue view is your nonstop resource for all things New York Giants football. And you mentioned obviously that there could have been some sort of issue between the giants and Beckham you alluded. You of course, the ESPN interview where he threw Eli under the bus. I mean, you know, my biggest thing with the giants is they knew what OB Jay was. They knew the type of player that he was. And they knew what they were signing up for. To me just to change directions a year after you took a running back with the second pick. And here they are you know, a year later trading away their best player on offense. I it just to me what the direction or the misdirection. The giants have been going in the last year or so just doesn't seem like there's there's a clear plan in place. Well, it's a bad. Look, there's no doubt about that. If they were going to do this. If they were going to move on from Beckham, you know, the the clean time the right time to do. It was probably before they gave him that make it contract. I mean, if nothing else I mean that avoid that would have avoided all the money that they spent in the big dead money hit they're going to take on their salary cap this year. So it doesn't seem to make sense, you know, in a lot of ways because the timing is just weird. I mean, I had this idea that I didn't really think that Beckham was gonna finish the five year contract with the giants. I thought at some point. You know, the the relationship would would go south, and and they would part ways. But I just didn't think it was going to happen now. So the question is he you talk about gentlemen, not having a plan. And he's heard the talk because he addressed it today in his statement on Odell. He's heard the talk that he doesn't have a plan. He says he does he says accumulating all of these draft picks think the giants have two first round picks. Now, they have twelve fixed this year. They have nine picks in two thousand twenty you know, he said that's all part of the plan. The question right now is okay. They've torn it down. Can he put it back together? If he can put it back together if he can build a winning team, then he comes out of this looking good if they flounder for the next five years and turn into a disaster. You know, then then he's gonna wind up looking like a fool. Do you think they got enough in return for oboe backup junior the first third, and of course, Djibril peppers was the player in that deal as well? You know, it's hard to say I mean because I think there was some consideration that that. Yeah. I heard you know, people talking about oh, it's going to take two first round draft picks. And it's going to take this. I never really thought someone would give up two first round draft picks for Odell Beckham. But but really I thought if they were going to take a first round pick. I thought they'd be looking for one in the top part of the draft in the top ten, you know, maybe something like I think San Francisco is has been number two over all pick in the draft. I thought maybe that would be what they would target. So I was a little bit a little bit taken aback that they took the seventeenth overall pick as their highest pick. But they seem happy with it. They seem to feel like that was the best offer they had. And I think there was your think there was some trepidation that if they let this go that they would eventually wind up with an Antonio Brown situation. Spending a few minutes here over the phone on espionage in radio with Ed Valentine, you can get him on Twitter at Ballantyne underscore, add covers the giants for Espy nations, big blue view, and of course, now with OB J, Al. The question now becomes well. What are the giants do from here specifically, you know, what is the future of Eli manning, you know, playing quarterback for this team? So Ed, I mean, if you could kinda prognosticate how you see this year on folding for you lie in what is he future with big blue? Well, it's interesting because I know there was any SPN report. Earlier today that the giants are planning to stick with ally for two thousand nineteen I know that the giants have talked about this Kansas City model of having you I mentor young quarterback for year and then turning things over. But what I'm really interested in is E Y. Manning has a roster bonus due in a few days on March seventeenth, I'm interested at this point that's five million dollars. And I'm interested to see if the giants actually pay it because that's when we're gonna know if they're actually going to move forward with you I for for the upcoming season, or whether they're gonna make another plan for, you know, for for two thousand nineteen right now, you know, right now if it's not Eli they don't have a quarterback. So so right now, you have to think that that unless a plan b shows up in the next couple of days. That they don't have much choice. Do you think they consider maybe a trade for Josh Rosen? If Arizona does indeed decided to take Callum number one. Well, I'll answer that this way the more. I think about that the more I like that idea especially because the price tag that you here for Josh Rosen is basically a second round pick. If you can use the sixth overall pick in the seventeenth overall pick on whoever you consider to be the best players then turn around and get Josh Rosen for your second round pick. Then you've done something here. You know, you've you've managed to get your quarterback of the future and get two first round picks in that looks like something you the question is I don't know if the giants like Josh Rosen enough to do that. He makes sense on paper. It makes sense to me. It seems like a good direction. I just. I don't know if they like the player enough and Valentine our guest here on ESPN radio. Jake has been filling in for Alex gold tonight on the gold standard and add. We can end with this. You know, if you were able to get Dave Gettleman some truth serum here, and you ask them. Hey, do you regret taking saquon Barkley over Sam darnold our year later, you get on them would admit that taken Barkley as great as he is talented and a specialist. It was mistake not going quarterback and really starting to rebuild around darnold a year ago. I don't think you'll ever get Gettleman to say that he he loves the player. Go back to to last year. He said, you know, Berkeley's one of only two players with Peyton Manning being the other one that that he ever gave a perfect grade to in his scouting report. I don't think Gettleman feels that way you, but it's easy. It's easy to make that conclusion because. Quarterback is still more valuable than running back. No matter how you cut it. No matter how great the running back is. And if the giants don't solve this quarterback situation. They'll never get out of saquon Barkley what they should be able to get and Valentine has been our guest. You could follow him on Twitter at Balentine underscore does a great job covering the New York. Giants raspy nations big blue view, great gained a chance to catch up with you here. I appreciate your time tonight. And obviously it's going to be a very busy and important offseason. Now for the New York Giants, thanks for having me coming up. We wrap up this hour Espy nation radio Jake has been in for Alex gold. This is the gold standard here on a Wednesday night..

"You know, regardless of whether he's there to open the two thousand nineteen sees. Or not it's as obvious as can be that the giants are pointed toward the future. End at that future is not going to include manning at as the quarterback for a whole lot longer. Yeah. I think that's how it's shaping up. I really do. And by the way, just a little FYI. I -ean Rappaport rap sheet at the NFL network just happened to put out a tweet just a few minutes ago saying that Odell saw Antonio Brown receive added money without adding New Year's upon being traded to the raiders. And that his understanding that being rap sheets is that old L wants the same thing from the Brown. So Dell or reportedly already looking for a raise from the Browns following the trade. No surprise there. Patty. I, you know, of course, he's going to angle to try to get something. You know, let's actually talk about Odell for just a minute. You were the first one months and months ago who raised the idea after Odell Beckham signed his five-year ninety million dollar deal with the giants. You were the first one to raise the the notion that there was basically. Chance he was ever gonna finish that five year deal with the giants in the more. I thought about it in the more. I looked at it in the more. I saw the different sorts of distractions and things that happened. I came to agree with you. But I didn't think it was going to happen now despite all the smoke that had been that had been floating around didn't think it was going to happen. Now. I thought the giants might try as long as they still had ally that they might go one more year try to make it work try to, you know, while they were transitioning, but you know, I guess Gettleman was happy with this price in he wants to to to to start that rebuild. Now. I'm just I think we knew that the end would come for ode L. I just didn't think it was going to come. Now. I didn't think it was going to come now either. But with that said, Ed the giants have. A lot of holes on defense. Stay have a few holes also on offense that they have to fix, you know, they're not gonna fix everything. This this year, they're going to fix a lot of things. But I don't think they'll fix everything. So I guess, you know, I don't know what the tipping point is. We have obviously heard from the giants. They haven't even announced a trade they can announce until four one pm on Wednesday. But you know, ultimately, you know, it's going to be interesting to hear what Gettleman has to say. I'm sure when the press release does come out they'll be a statement from him in there. And I'm curious to see what he has to say about it. Especially after you know, saying we didn't sign him to train them, which by the way, I took to mean that we're not intending to trade, but we could still trade him. If circumstances allowed for it. I took it the same way Patty, and one of the things that I wrote a little bit earlier this evening at big blue view was. Was we've heard you know, we hear a lot of of things from from gentlemen in. There are certain statements are certain things that he tends to lean on one of the things that he one of the the beliefs that he leans into quite a bit is that you don't give up on talent another one of the beliefs that he leans into an he leaned into really heavily when we spoke to him at the combine was this idea that a general manager's job is to eliminate distractions. And if for a while you've wondered, okay, well, those two things, you know, aren't necessarily they don't necessarily work hand in hand. So push comes to show, which one wins. And I think in the end we found out which one wins in his. His mind. Yeah. I mean, look he talks about how everything he does is designed to send a message to that locker room. Right. So, you know, Dell a talented player, and you know, he gave them an also spoke about the whole question..

I got the bathrobe on. I was was ready to go watch some TV. And then Dave Gettleman went and traded Odell Beckham to the Cleveland. Oakland browns. And and and I'm still trying to process that when Patty, you know, at I just put together something for Forbes. I just it just published literally seconds ago. I have some thoughts about this. You know, I know I apologize homeless Twitter followers. I had not had a chance to really look at the my mentions. I know there's a lot of people who are upset who are asking. Why what the heck is going on? Whether the giants doing an Ed I just want to mention a couple of things that I put in that article just just for what it's worth number one. I think given the hall that the giant Scott, and for those who don't who haven't heard they not only got safety Gibril peppers, which you know, the bills need it. Also gives them the Browns first round pick, which is number seventeen overall. And the second of the Browns to third round picks, which I believe is number ninety six overall. I don't know about she wed. But I have a feeling that quarterback. Now becomes in play for the giants. I kept saying before the giants made this trade that I thought it would be a pass rusher. At number six. I didn't see quarterback being in play. Now. Think quarterback might be play with this extra. You know, first round pick in and disturb round pick, absolutely, Patty..
