"Now, you've added the hopkins that's a huge edition Kenyan drake at a really great year I. Think it's sort of a question. Now he has to prove he can have a second really great year scrape what they've put a They put a pretty good offensive line you know together which was. Not. Good when they took over and and if the rookie Josh, Jones can play right tackle. It'll be a whole lot better So offensively I think they will certainly be a team that will score points defensively where they've gotten better you mentioned Isaiah six who was Not only the best I think defensive player in the draft. But is one of these rare multi position talents who fits that modern NFL game. What we were talking about you know about robber and and that kind of coverage Simmons can play. From the linebacker spot can cover wide receivers. If he asked to at least inside wide receivers, I wouldn't have any problem he can cover tight ends he can. He can tackle all over the field. They have him ahead of chase young in probably I mean. As an athlete yes I mean as as a player in other words, he's that kind of versatility in skill is very rare. Now, Young's young's ability might will mean an Khuda. As well I, think you know their ability to play their positions better might make them better. Values I. Don't think anyone would have skipped young to take Simmons obviously they did. But. But. Yeah. I think that's the kind of thing I. I was talking about it's a challenge. There are some team Simmons could go to some teams and be lost in the shuffle kind of. But you know I even think he has if he was on Jacksonville two or three years ago in one of those linebacker spots, he would be phenomenal. I. Think he could do that on a COUPLA but Jordan Phillips from Buffalo. Who they picked up to play nose tackle to me is one of those great under the radar signings and he will make defense a whole lot better. They added devante Campbell Campbell from the falcons whose much better suited to their defense than he wants to Atlanta's he'll be an inside backer with less. Less need Rome. Than than he didn't Atlanta. If Jordan Hicks is healthy. They're really they're really strong back there Buddha Baker. Is just. Another really good talent. But as you say playing in the top division in the NFL is out of what is what is Successful Kingsbury and car this season or winning a winning record I think would be success for them. Yeah. And like you say it will be. Difficult You know it's easy to get into the playoffs every year if you're in a division with too bad teams. Because, that's going to be four games but there, there won't be rich coming to the north. That bad is in bad exaggeration. I think I think that that division is three question marks and and like a double question mark, exclamation point, ice, formation point kind of team. That simple it as well. But I'm just like Greg Greg the rams I can see ways where this team actually does really well. And it's an interesting question between those two teams because this is a young team, it's trying to find itself and the rams are the core of an old team. Trying to refined. Refined. That and the end it was only two years ago. Yeah. Yeah. It's it seems like a long time but. Okay. Let's get onto the northern. We were alluding of course to the north just Dan and I think geo point and particularly the Detroit Lions Mike. Sue. If we're talking buzz belied the suddenly to be at a nowhere everybody's Tokyo up the lines is credible witness of the NFC north I'm not totally by what are you say? Well, I had the visit Darkhorse team when I when I was going through. On a betting. On a betting level. When In goch way went to Minnesota I thought that. Was Okay for Minnesota, but it was bad for the lions because what the lions need probably more than anything else is another pass rusher. To balance against. Trey flowers. Even though they're a Matt Patricia Defense, you would assume was very patriot like and we'll try scheme for saks, which is true and flowers plays really well. But then went the addition of a Adrian Peterson. To me is a great move because what was their biggest problem last year one was Matt Stafford getting hurt obvious and Stafford's back and you know there's no replacement for Stafford. The. Other one was carrying Johnson his. Two years he's been very good in both years, but he's got hurt in both years so they drafted. Who? WHO's probably a great a great pickup but I think with Adrian Peterson there now they can. Both. Carry on Johnson's carries and Peterson and swifter both guys who can catch balls. Out of the backfield which gives them give them that. Added Dimension So for me, the the big question is. Are, the biggest questions offensive line they spent big money on big the from. From Philadelphia and I'm not sure that that was well spent in wasn't overpaid and they drafted Joe Jackson to play guard those two guys both need to both need to play well. and. The offensive. Line. Rag No is really good at center but. You know Taylor deckers. Okay. A much stories great pass blocker and they'll need that to stafford healthy. But otherwise you look at the weapons those it's a great setbacks. Hopkinson and Jesse James and Hunter Bryant who His problem was injury in college, but he's a great pass catching tight end I liked him a lot Golladay, and Marvin Jones. Danny, Amendola. They might. They could probably use another good receiver now, I don't know if. I'd underlined that point. Yeah I mean I think that is a weak link. Obviously GONNA data great season joins chimes in with. Seven, Fifty, eight hundred. But Yeah, well, John Jones was like when. When Stafford was hurt, Jones became the go-to Guy Really. It was it was it was funny that way. And he's gone I mean Chase Daniel's the backup now. Who who's limitations were shown last year I think when he had to start. In Chicago. I I was a little surprised by that because you'd kind of want I mean blouse still on the practice. It's funny with practice squad too because you can this year, you can bring up a guy from the practice squad and then bring him back to the practice squad. To normally what happens if you activated from the practice squad, you then have to put him on waivers. Afterwards, and now you can. You can do that twice I think which which. which will help a lot of teams and you'll see. An interesting thing from the jets came out that the days was going to they have five quarterbacks now on the roster between active in practice squad, and they were thinking of putting one guy as A. Remote quarterback. He would. He would do everything remotely like quarterback meetings on Zuma were. Yeah. Can't woodlake. We're doing so that if if if for some reason the quarterbacks coach Claude Cova and passed it on to all four of the other quarterbacks interesting, they would still have one healthy guy who could who could take snaps So. That's a much sure. Everyone's going to rush to do that but. Interesting. I did kind of make sense right now. The lions and these east built a kind of New England style deepens..

"Joe Show Three D chess baby. That's all about I think it's I think. Schober is probably my favorite. He's my favorite player. Are Wash on the market for sure I think he's going to be close to eight figures a year. I'd be surprised the eagles sheltered out. But like I don't know to me you grab this Guy. He can easily be on the field for. All three downs need Linebacker to maybe garrison linebacker tubes apparently bang. I think it'd be great. So are you a no on the rest of the guys because I mean is really not all that great and I kind of want to transition to the draft down but my bargain bin Guy is Klein. The from the saints who I think is is is reasonably is going to be cheap. I and that is reasonably talented versatile. Enough such that he would not be a disappointing or inconsistent or You know liability right. I think that he is. What ideally they. Gary would be if if Gary had maybe developed a little bit more and was better. It's been really ripping on Nate Gary. Podcasts I forgot about that. When is to me right so to me? I think I think he. Gary is the Ours you may think Klein is the bargain. Guy would like clanking. Like Clyde did on Balsam's Orleans. He likes day gaps in the MIC. Drop short zones. He was run and chase as weakside linebacker. He did a lot of stuff for them and he's not awful at anything. He's not the best move on the face of the planet but he's a stout dude he's physical in the contact window and coverage climb would be the guy like in five million per range which he's like. He's thinking in his thirties. Says probably a guy that you look at for more of a two three year deal perspective than anything else but if the eagles the direction we expect them to which is band-aid not bandaids? Just cheaper I would guess it ends up being like Cli- would be the guy that I would like and I guess he falls within their range. I would like him over pierre-louis over Devante Campbell Hewitt like In those those types of guys so I I agree with you there and out of man. I don't think they spend big. So I think I'll show. Bert is is not going to be It would it would be nice though because the eagles have been like. I kind of alluded to before really missing just as a a really good coverage linebacker for those third five. Radom God the contract that he did. I thought he could do that. Guy Why I don't know if you remember and this is like you know to what extent this matter obviously we've had discussions about this before but he was. Bff's number one graded linebacker in coverage twenty. Seventeen it right tastic. End Legs that when you watch the film it was. I remember the panther's game tiny seventeen where he was like. Hey Grisham candy. Like I'm GonNa be the only person to lead to stop you. How does that feel? Are you okay with that? Is that good for you right. And it was like okay. Shoot like Brad is the do like Jordan is brought him for the next two years short zones. A heck solid radames really stink in good. Needles are going to have quality underneath junk coverage Ability to run and then Hicks kept getting injured and radames. Twenty seventeen was revealed to be a not only. And so. Now you've gotta re gathered Replan Okay so then the next question obviously is the eagles. Don't sign anybody Pierre-louis to the same deal. They signed Eljay four to last year. Right on nothing Right how early are they going linebacker? Hourly do we think they will aker? Here's the thing. I don't really like anybody in day to that. I've watched IT I. I don't like anyone. This is the same thing as last year right. This is when Devon Bush and Devon White. We knew those two are going to go early and then there was going to be a big gap really. The only player outside of that laid well. Last year was Drake Greenlaw for the for the forty niners draft in the fifth round. That's like one of a dozen guys that was drafted in day. Three that PR- that kind of like showed out a little bit so we were right to be really low on that linebacker. Class LIKE DEVON. White wasn't good last year either. Bush was like the best out of the bunch. Don't sell Tampa Fans Devon. Why wasn't that great but that you look at this year? Okay kind of the same deal because for me there are two top guys and then there's Then there's a guy that's going to be taken sooner than he probably should be. And those are Isaiah. Simmons obviously top. Ten Lakh may go on top five. Just a absolute I would not call him a top ten lakh really are what. Get everything about this guy that I've seen says he's going top ten. What what am I missing with the with the consensus here? I wrote about this and he got absolutely zero cloud and I was like oh I thought this was going to get clout. I'm sorry I may have very bad again. Simmons can play any position right. Yeah they play them in the box. They play single high. Sometimes they play him as the overhang like the most versatile dude you ever seen in the face of the planet shockingly effective in every single role. Sick I love it. It's great. Nfl defensive coordinators. Do Not Want Simmons play every single role. They do not want a player who is unbelievably versatile who never miss any play ever and will always be on the field and we'll fill every role that you ever need ever because in order to have a player be that versatile the rest of your defense has to mold around him right and this is like what Brent Venables that even coordinator in Clemson did to Unlock Simmons is. He played for safety's all over the field. One of them is Tanner Muse. Six three to twenty nine and can fly one of them's cave on walls. It was like five ten a buck eighty five and is basically a slot corner right and they just move these guys all over the place right like it's like like for every action doesn't equal but opposite reaction. Every time Simmons who's your linebacker goes to play deep half we need to have a guy can go be your mic. And then every time he goes to cover the slot when you now have a guy go player safety right so like he can play every position boot on any given blaze. Only GonNa play one and what we know about defensive coordinators we know about. Nfl coaches is that they have hubris and they have too much faith in their scheme so nobody in the League right. Now besides maybe. The chargers has the infrastructure to take Simmons to be like your position less because they all currently have a scheme. That's like they. We run the four three right. We RUN OVER FRONTS. And we like run-and-shoot right so they're all. GonNa Draft Simmons to play a role. They're going to draft him into play every role. I think they should. But they won't because this is what. Nfl coaches do they draft players for the roads. Why wasn't decay metcalf atop ten pack? Why wasn't he came across the big because he was going to be? A few treacher who ran. Four routes and in that role right didn't get valued in the top ten despite the fact that make episodes digging good at it so what role the Simmons Fill in the NFL? If HE DOES NOT GET TO BE MR position lists that we all hope it is. He's probably a four three will four through wills don't get drafted in the top ten. They don't always box safety case. James going seventeen right right right. He's trying I meant for three. Mike is Going fifteen right yet. No like people fall and people didn't expect Darwin James to fall and stuff like that I get that like the. Nfl draft is and when you go back and you look at these defensive players who fell more than we thought they would. The common thread is versatility. All Planning Position devens coordinators. Don't play every position. They won't one guy can play one position really well. And then we'll get eleven of them and they want them all to play different positions right. That's that's the thing is like unless you are willing as a defensive coach to say Simmons is the skeleton key and let him be so which bread edibles dating Kudos to him. You won't get the advantages of Simmons that we think that that draft guys think that you will because you won't unlock your defense that way so anyway I wanNA call him the top ten log for that reason but anyway now what we're supposed to be talking about right now right so I think that there are two linebackers at the top of the class. I'll put put it that way kind of you know the two difference from last year. Isaiah Simmons and Patrick Queen from Lsu. Who I love Badger. Queen can play ball. He's he's getting a first round great for me. In fact I was a bit lower on the linebackers last year. That a lot of people I had Devin Bush at eighteenth overall had devon white at twentieth overall. I had neither of them as first round grades. Get on my level while I think only gave out seventeen first round grades. But so there's that early second round grades. If I'M NOT MISTAKEN I duNno I gotTA check that but I know white definitely wasn't a first round anyway. Patrick Lane is getting a first round grade. He would be along with Simmons. You know my two linebackers if I compare boards or the last two years. Queen has everything. You want a linebacker man. He is doggone smart ski and diagnosis. Super-quick man like He. He seems like he's a film junkie because he's all over these things yes he can. He can cover. He got sidelined sideline range like I. I think there are a little bit of like maybe a little bit of you can clean up with tackling but like brother. This guy has everything you want and might be available when the Eagles pick at twenty one. LemMe Lemme draw right. Let me draw a hypothetical for you your likelihood the Eagles Pick Patrick Arena. Twenty-one what's the percentage chance to fifteen percent? Okay what will your emotions be? One hundred is like over the moon. You never been happier. Zero is like you've been the most devastated of your life. Do it all depends on everything else but ill in like a vacuum. Let's say like the major things are taken care of. And how he does his thing where he's like. I want to be able to feel the team before we get to the draft. If that's the case on two hundred I love it doggone. Good football player that you're GONNA get on the cheap for a long time is going to be the core your defense right now. That's that's the fifteen percent reality. Let me throw this back at you. Right Eagles trae back thirty. Pick up early three or whatever Green Bay speaking at thirty the biggest Green Bay's three and a five take Patrick Queen at thirty. How probable is that? You probably two three more times as likely as it's interesting right because I think that right I think that not dissimilar the Dallas Gutter which drafting a tight end. Top fifty is not brand. And it's not like they needed a tight end badly right right right right but I like the most likely reality in which the Eagles ended up landing. Quinn is one in which they get twenty one and they have so many players left on the board that they would like twenty one. They just moved back. Grab some more capital see. Who's there when they move back and the guy was there ends up being Queen in which case sick now the eagles are also projected. Ten packs with complex. So they don't need to go trading back right like I think a lot of people in that they have ted picks if the trade back Lindros at a linebacker would probably be upset. But Queen can do everything for you. I would love seeing Patrick. We in Philadelphia. I don't think it will happen Who are some of the day? Two guys that you've watched Kenneth Murray who I think is a space that can't cover and is going to get drafted like really round two when a team led says Agai as much as they blitzed. Murray a kind of freaks. You out a little bit other than that. I you seen Akeem Davis gaither at Appalachian State I've seen a little bit of them and I and I think I like him but I don't think I like him at like fifty three. Yeah I agree I would want him around three but he is what you want if you don't like Komo right because he's you're on ball. Sam occasionally come off the edge but like maybe. That's Gerard Avery for them next year. So they don't really need that. Role is tricky right. So like Davis. Gather David Woodward Utah. State had not seen him. No He's a slippery dude. You know how I liked bender curve and last year cody board. He's that vibe. Which all these west coast kids are. Apparently it's just a thing but I I like David Woodward in that like near one hundred but top one hundred range who I think that. Like ideally is sub package for you and your one but if you need force them in there to start music a three year starter. Utah State is safety backgrounds. He's doing dropping into coverage. I should say X. Safety background like in high school in his first year of college. He didn't switch to safety in college and the Eagles decided to switch him back to linebacker. I don't know who would do that or who that would be..

"Thoughts on your run run pass ratio? You only random boss sixteen. They ran the ball forty five times your thoughts on that. Yeah. My thoughts on that. Was they were having success running the ball and keeping drives alive. We were struggling to stay on the field. And so there were some runs in there. Early in the game. And throughout the game. We weren't making enough yardage on the rods. And so. They did a good job. And but then when we chose to pass it we had drops. And we did some things that couldn't couldn't keep drives alive as well. Well, Pat Shurmur trying to describe or explain why they didn't run as much and but just nothing worked for this team today. Good job by the Tennessee titans. Who go onto the victory? Speaking of good jobs, and we were kind of waiting for this one from the Atlanta Falcons, they improve the five and non with a forty two fourteen win over the cardinals today, and here is Jeff Zell with more from a Mercedes Benz stadium. Jeff, welcome back. How are you? Hey, rachel. How're you doing? Yeah. The falcons in their five game losing skid with a forty two fourteen win over the cardinals. After David Johnson's one yard touchdown run with eight twenty five left in the first quarter gave zone a seven nothing lead. Us out can score forty unanswered points. The team had their best rushing performance of the season with two hundred fifteen yards on twenty seven carries rich. That's eight a Carey. Kevin Coleman led the way with eleven carries for one forty five had a forty three yard touchdown run. And they long one up sixty five that moved Atlanta from their twenty eight years on the seven that Ryan another good game had a one yard touchdown plunge completed twenty to thirty six passes for two hundred thirty one yards. Touchdown pass the twenty one to Julio Jones with thirteen seconds left in the first half. That gave Atlanta a commanding twenty six to seven halftime lead. And then a five yard touchdown pass to Justin hardy Dion Jones, a forty one yard pick six off. Josh rosen. Brian Poole had. An interception NFL recovery in the falcon defense registered seven sacks for fifty yards losses. Once again, falcons beat the cardinals forty two fourteen. This is one we talked about this during the game. It's like where has this been? And it just seemed whether they were just letting out frustration or this had been building that everything just culminated in this wind today, you know, the first day games. Season. They had a lot of injuries. They were still foreign four. They came out completely unprepared against the Browns on the road. When they finally got back to even even devante Campbell. Who's an outspoken leader of this team said we just weren't prepared. We didn't take it seriously. It was the week after the Browns fired their head coach. So they were pumped up for Greg Williams. And then the next week a heartbreaker losing to Dallas on the last play the game twenty two to nineteen. In fact, Atlanta had three games at home where they lost on the last play the game in overtime to New Orleans against the Bengals and against the Cowboys and they lost control the season. Once they went to foreign six they felt a four nine and today, you know, they rushed the ball. Well, and they blitzed a little bit more. I felt they should uplift a lot more during the season with the struggles of their secondary. Absolutely. But I think also the biggest factor today. Tevin Coleman hundred forty five yards rushing had a big run as well. And so many times when we've talked over the years. About the falcons playing. Well, you know, you talk about devante Freeman having a big game and balance on offense. How important was that balance today? Very big. Because it also gives Matt Ryan so protection, you can't have the safety coming up and and make an extra tackles. He's got to guard against people like Giulio, and and captain Ridley Muhammad new, and you know, it just makes everything when you're passing the ball and running the ball. You can't the decent chance over stock anywhere. They can't flood the box. They've got to prepare for everything. You know? It's interesting. The best win of the season. Probably road win against the Redskins thirty eight to fourteen in that game. Matt Ryan had two touchdown passes to calm and coming out of the backfield. But this'll probably be Kevin's last year in Atlanta. He's a free ages. They've got big money with devante. And a lot of people have discussed it just Ted until today really hadn't shown the greatness to be given that huge contract. Go along with devante. So Kevin's probably going to be out on the free agent market. But yeah, certainly when you have a mixture pass and run it allows your. Quarterback to have more time because the defense can't over stack anywhere. Arthur blank gave Dan Quinn. A vote of confidence when you see with three games left this season. And nothing on the line this team playing the way it did. It seems that the the players seem to support that that vote of confidence from the owner. Well, Dan Quinn. This is fourth year. Okay. He was eight his first year started out five and that was after to really poor years under Mike Smith, then they nearly won the Super Bowl and even last year, which people said oh a little bit of a down year. You know, they made the playoffs. They wanna play off road game against the Rams are the only team in the NFC that made the playoffs the last two years. So this is his first that year. I think you're going to give them that. They're not gonna let him go after one that season, especially when you have this many injuries. I do think one of the coordinators probably will be replaced, but you never know when Atlanta sometimes people get longer periods of time and their jobs. And you would think northern cities, but but certainly with just one bad season, especially with the injuries. She's gonna stay here for at least another year. Jeff, thanks for everything today. We'll talk to you next week. Thank you, rich. I appreciate it. All right. "And the falcons are on the far side of the field. The crowd on their feet getting set for what they hope is the saints ten victory of the season for more on tonight's. Ballgame lets go down to the sidelines. The batch up within the match up to the best wide receivers and football Julio Jones. Michael Thomas, both six three Jones about ten pounds bigger at two twenty both going for records this season individual and team franchise records, a lot of people believe the one that has the bigger night can make the difference in the outcome of football game. Most likely to be a shootout there the two receivers will be watching all night long. Yeah. Drew Brees set of Michael Thomas. He said, it's an invincible feeling knowing that he is out there, and I can throw the football to him. I had a chance to talk to Joe Lombardi the quarterback coach down the field for the saints. And he just kept raving on and on about how strong Michael Thomas is. And how much he's been a key to their season. So far they love him. Atlanta won the toss they've deferred. So the saints will go on offense. I it's time for the opening kickoff. Brought to you by farmer's. They've seen almost everything. So they know how to cover almost anything what it's game time haven't experienced player to help you stay ahead of the game. But their experience into play at farmers dot com. Well, we hope it's as entertaining as the last time these two teams faced each other tastes some hell is back deep Theresa for the saints to our right? And we are underway. The final game of our triple header the ball sputters in the end zone and goes out of the back of the end zone to the saints will begin behind. Drew Brees is ATP series. Thirty nine years old twenty five touchdowns and one interception. This year for the saints. It's absolutely incredible. And we talked about earlier Tom put seventy seven percent of his passes. It's incredible. To me that a guy that's going to turn forty midway through the play offs in January is playing as well as ever has before. And he might have the best team around him. And I know they want it all back in two thousand nine Bushrod starts at the left tackle position for Armstead. Who is out tonight it active and they'll run to start the game. Kamara the over to the right side. He gets up to thirty five. The forty Mark them up to the forty three Casey makes the tackle. And that's part of the two headed monster to gain of eighteen yards. They love chimera because of his speed. It's effortless. This is just power. What do you think? Saints for whatever reason time, you think finance, but that was power. They had a lead back kicking out the defensive end and the back side guard Andrews p pulled up into the whole huge chimeras apt to the nearside as three receivers to their side of breeze out of the gun hill. Throw looking to his right throws to his right passes complete chose right? He's got his tight end of the outside and out of bounds after gaining eight yards. It's Dan Arnold's. Actually, they're going to say it's a nine yard gain. So it'll be second down in one Brooks read made the tackle they really liked Dan Arnold. I was talking with Dan Campbell the tight end coach former teammate of mine in Dallas. And he said, look, it's only his second year. He's only two or twenty five pounds. But he's from Wisconsin. Billy's basically like having another big receiver out there and what their receiver injuries. You might be a big part of what they do night Watson's motion to the right side of the offensive line. In the backfield will take the hand off runs over the block of his left. Guard gets down inside the forty to the thirty nine yard glide. That's a big burst of nine yards. Bits a first down for the saints. And they are really truly this year's installment of the greatest show on her. It's unbelievable. That's thirty five week is what we're used to call that. There's no lead back, but you're running inside zone to the weak side. And it's a terrific cutback there. This offense at line is the best in football. It's been unbelievable. So far this season Ingram checks in for the first time a pass to the near side to Thomas it's complete on a slant to gain of five yards to the thirty four yard line. Just try to get him in Bob quickly Duke Riley, Robert Alford make the tackle for the falcons. Thomas eighty three receptions, one thousand forty two yards on the season. He has eight touchdowns tastes some hill. Checks in for the first time to the line is a receiver wide receiver to the right receiver in motion. That's kirkwood. Breeze under center on second down and five to hand off to Ingram starting right? Trying to get to the edge is wrapped up and take it out almost immediately by devan, Drake. Amble? It's gonna be a loss of two on the play. It'll be third down. We'll call it seven yards real nice job. Thereby devante Campbell. He leads the falcons and tackles with fifty five. He's a bigger bodied linebacker, and he just ran downhill right through the offensive guard to make that play in the least Kim a chance here on third down. But there's the thirty six yard line. See this could be four down territory Payton's needs to know that before this play call falcons, look like they're showing blitz. Now they step back as Brees changes the play under twelve minutes to play. First quarter Brees looking to throw rose to the Bill passes the plates at Thomas right at the first down marker. And I think he spun forward to Riley on the grass for eight yards. It'll be a first down for the saints. So the falcons were in zone coverage. And that's one of the things they love about my commas. He's just so smart. He cuts gets a free released. Sees the Duke Riley's dropping in the middle of the field and just stops his route. Because that's where the whole was in the defense. Breeze. New to throw it to his outside shoulder away from Riley, just so well done. Motion perk are the far side. And I doubt for the twenty eight yard line of the falcons off the play fake reason. Looking at throw has. Touchdown New Orleans. Just activated tonight. On the board for the saints. Twenty eight yard toss bits six nothing. New orleans. Breezes is had to be as wide as can be because lowest just found himself wide open. Perfect play call, Tom. And here's how it happened. They pulled the left guard Andrews, Pete fake the Baltimore kingdom. So both the falcons defenders thought it was a wrong when you pull a guard like that Tommy Lee Lewis running back across the field away from the road action was wide open Lux's aunt for the point after it's good. Levin left to play in the first quarter. The saints score on the opening drive. It's seven nothing New Orleans over the falcons, this is Westwood one's coverage of the National Football League. New model year..

"Our three of the program. It's monday. It's thanksgiving week and give thanks for some great games. Week eleven ten of twelve decided by one score or less eight of twelve decided by a field goal or less, and we still have the game of the year tonight. Rams chiefs from Mexico from Lhasa Apso. City of angels. So great day though, great day showed up for work yesterday. Hey, thanks. Thanks for having me there. It's nothing like showing up for work for an unpaid day is great to be there. Thanks a lot. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. You should be paying us show up and hang out and watch football with Tony Dungy. We've riding Harrison with Mike tirico. You get the great wall TV and free food, right? Yeah. That's great. All of those people are cool as you're there, though that's down past right? I get stuck in the corner of the u. Yeah. It's not that easy to deal muzzle. You to you? Dropping bombs man. I know I know I know sorry. Coach dungy. Sorry kids. Got to grow up. Gotta teach in the streets. Okay. But nonetheless, the games were phenomenal. I mean, I mean, the one o'clock Slater games with all the close games. Whether it was the Dallas falcons games the Bengals ravens. The Panthers lions the amazing comeback by the Steelers in the fourth quarter against the Jaguars. And that defense the Houston Texans Redskins football game. It was actually one of those games at one o'clock after one o'clock was done. I came away going damn. There was so much so much going on towards the end of those one o'clock games you walk away. Oh, I don't know. What I just saw. I saw so many plays. And so many different situations. It's hard to kind of digest it all the Cowboys game was amazing to me because we had eight days ago going into the week ten Sunday night game. All the talk about Jason Garrett, maybe being fired the day after a blowout loss to the eagles. And the Cowboys had lost their way and Troy Aikman. Calling for a complete overhaul of the organization desperation to road games later the head and one on the road all year long to road games later at Philadelphia at Atlanta two teams that were foreign four eight days ago. Right, right. The falcons got beaten by the Browns. Devante Campbell came out. After the fact and said, we didn't take the Browns. Seriously. They were surely taking the Cowboys seriously, and it was a good game at the cow with with the Cowboys. You know in the first five minutes of the Cowboys are gonna win because either their brand of football works that day. Right doesn't either works right out of the gates or it's not gonna work at all. And we sensed early on first couple drives Cowboys are gonna win even though it was closed at the end. To avoid overtime that that Cowboys formula work. So you saw we know I think right away. Yeah. I think we will. We saw early on as we saw. Okay. Their their offense aligns to be capable of moving. It land on the run game a little bit. So that was one thing. I think that was a positive the biggest thing too is Dallas defense. Dallas defense is really special Vandereycken. Oh my gosh. I mean, he's an unbelievable athlete at the middle linebacker position. The the wave of pass rushers they send Matt Ryan and company where he was under duress really the whole football game. And then of course, the secondary. They have in Dallas is pretty special to. I'd argue those dual corners are as good as anybody in the sport right now with Byron Jones and should. But yeah, I mean Vander gets the big interception. When they took the lead that kind of help pad the lead, let them go up nineteen to nine believe at that point. But either way it was a really good football game and Dallas with Mark Colombo's. The new offense a line coach has shown the ability to be more successful in the run game. They kind of got a good formula going right now, and they don't need to try to blow up the scoreboard with offense appoints, they can play ugly and their defense a little bit. I talked to Ezekiel Elliott from the bus on the way to the airport yesterday. He said the offensive line has been destroying people and that that sets the tone and it was before the eagles game. That Elliot said that games a must win. They're all a must win. The teammates are responding to him. He's becoming a leader in his third year in the NFL. And he's getting it done. He had fifty five touches the last two games combined. He said he feels fine coming out of the Sunday game against the falcons. He had thirty touches yesterday. And he's heading into the thanksgiving short week game ready to go. He said, I'm ready to roll. And I think the Cowboys, and who knows who knows because one thing we've we've learned when you write someone off. And you assume someone's going to be good the rest of the way, it can flip Washington's gonna come in with that attitude of no one expects us to win McCoy who beat the Cowboys four years ago in Dallas as a replacement starts at Texas did right. And and he when he came in yesterday after Alex Smith suffered that horrible gruesome broken leg thirty three years to the day after Joe thighs man, suffered his against your dad's New York Giants on Sunday night in in that was that was that was in DC. And. Makola good. He did. And it looked like they were going to pull off that victory. Just change everything. We saw lead change for the first time in Washington all year. But I think the Cowboys have to take them seriously that suddenly becomes a great game. I think all the games on on sun on Thursday are going to be great because the lions showed fight yesterday. They're going to want to even the season series with the bears and keep themselves alive for a long shot playoff berth. Washington. Dallas will be great in the middle. And then can the falcons Duke can can they stay on the same field with the New Orleans Saints in the NFC. Is there anyone that we can look at and say that team doesn't have a chance including the New York Giants. No. I don't think I don't think we can cancel anybody out. I think the it's slim pickings for the New York Giants, I understand. They're still have a chance here down the stretch. But the giants schedule is not easy. I mean, they still got some AFC south football teams on their schedule. That are very good. They still got to play the eagles in Philly. They gotta play the Cowboys. They gotta play the Redskins sill again. And the Cowboys have believe are on the schedule twice for them down the stairs and the bears, and you know, the titans and the colts the way they're playing football right now. So, you know, again, there's some positives. They're dangerous because Eli manning is still alive manning and he's clutch enable do execute the offense and saquon deller there, but you know, as a complete football team, you know, again, they've beaten the forty Niners in the bucks. And that game was extremely close yesterday and the bucks find ways again they bench their quarterback to bring James Winston. And so let's not forget about that. And and lose context of the whole situation. Bucket is formula is put your starter out there. Fall behind by the backup in. All right. Just like Cincinnati a few weeks ago elimination game coming up on Sunday between the giants and eagles. Can we at least agree on that? I think so. Yes, the loser's gonna be done. Yes. Without without question. Will you know? Yes. The loser will be done the that. Should finally put the nail nail in the coffin. But. Yeah, you're either way we're gonna come out Sunday and go there's three teams still in in the conversation in the NFC east, and you know, the Redskins aren't going to give up their a beat up football team. But I do think Colt McCoy can play quarterback every bit as good as Alex Smith. I really do believe that he's every bit the good good as athlete and he can throw the ball. I really think with more power. And he's a more gifted down the field thrower, then Alex Smith. And I think that's something. He can bring to the offense something I said about the Cowboys last month before they lost in Washington. And that was a really close game. Remember that weird? Call with the resetting of the snap on the field goal, try. Yes. Forced overtime. Yes. I looked at the Cowboys as a team that could make things interesting against the saints or against. The Rams in the postseason because of that formula if that formula works the Cowboys are going to keep it close and they're going to potentially win the game. And we're going to see the Cowboys in the saints get together in Dallas next Thursday night, which will give us an idea. Yeah, they're not the Cowboys really are a team that if they make it to the postseason and for as much as I've said the Rams don't want to see the Seahawks in the playoffs. I don't think the Rams will the saints wanna see the Cowboys in the playoffs because if you if that formula works that day that special season you had in New Orleans or LA could be out the window in a three hour wind the Cowboys. I think they match up better with the Rams would be I think more reluctant to see the Cowboys coming into town because the Rams are gonna go men are run defense is very good, and you can control the clock. And of course, we know the Cowboys even it's is very good. The saints are built a little differently than the Rams the saints have the best run defense and football. So they're they're going to feel comfortable about that match up. But I think to your point with the Cowboys either way. The one thing they have in their advantages. They are not going to beat be beat or beat up or dominated at the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball. That is always give them a chance to physically stay in a football game there. Oh line. There's no D line in football. That's just going to steamroll the Dallas Cowboys line. And that's the same for the other side of the ball. There's no old-line and football. That's going to steamroll that Dallas cowboy defensive line those are two special units. And when you have the ability to win, you know, the trench warfare on both sides of the ball. That's always gonna keep you close and competitive in any football game throughout the season. The saints are so good right now they've scored ninety nine points in the last two games fifty one against the Bengals forty-eight against the defending Super Bowl champions. Is there really is something to be said for this idea of peaking too soon? Is that a thing could could the saints. Look back on this in December and say man, we wish we were playing now like we were back in novem-. Now, you just you ride the wave, and you go and they've they've played. Two teams that they've match up well with their playing awesome football. And I think the gift the saints have more than anything this year. And sometimes you don't see this with the team. That's dominating..

But make sure you're following RJ Joa in Tony Casillas to great guys doing a lot of work as long as Michael size more time rile all the guys applauding the boys. Do a great job on the good over there. So make sure you're following along. Reading or workover blogging the boys mixture, you're liking the podcast describing the podcast commenting, reviewing whatever you gotta do to make sure we keep the Stangl and do it. All right. So before we get going. Preview in this game for you guys. The Atlanta Falcons injury report looks great pretty much the only people who showed up that worked in a full fashion. Derrick Shelby limited Muhammed. Sohn? New limited. Demonte Z limited Dion Jones LTd. Bruce Carter familiar face. Limited in devante Campbell. Limited all of those guys are likely going to play the the big name. There's going to be Dion Jones. This would be his first game back after suffering that a fifth metatarsal injury that he that he had the beginning of the year, you guys expect obviously this is kind of a tour question, but you don't expect Dion Jones to be a hundred percent the old Dionne Jones that we're used to write you kinda expect him to be a little bit heavy coming out game. So maybe just a a slower lesser snap game than we're used to from seeing from Dion Jones Dalton what do you think? That injury scares me. Not scares me. Because he's playing us. The Cowboys not us like I'm not a part of the team. But I coming off of it. Yeah. I don't really worry about it too much. I mean, he how he's been out for what nine nine weeks eight weeks nine weeks, something like that. It's seems quick doesn't it? Yeah. I mean just that injury. We've seen has has been has had a lingering effect on people. So I think that they're gonna kind of take it easy with him. So I'm not real worried about you know, how he's gonna play. I don't think he's going to absolutely ball out and be that old beyond Jones that we've seen because his game is predicated upon speed and quickness, and I don't think that he's gonna be one hundred percent to be that player. Coal. Are you all worried about Dion Jones in his his production that he's gonna have on Sunday? Do you think it'll be I'm not gonna say he's going to be a liability on the field. But maybe you'll have a player you can take advantage of due to his rustiness. Yeah. He could be a player that Cowboys could scheme against in try to take advantage of. He is good player when healthy we know it he can do. And he's one hundred percent, but yeah, coming off an injure this week and everything if you're playing the falcons in a later day didn't meet every story, but this week I wouldn't be too concerned over him. But I don't think he's a player you can just rule out of making a player to in a game. And I know they're all in limited fashion, but you can look at the linebackers for the falcons Campbell who's a starter. Jones who would be a starter if he hadn't missed most of the year due to the injury. And then like I said the familiar face Bruce Carter has played a somewhat of a role for them this year. All three of those guys are limited. So they're pretty banged up at linebacker in. They don't defend the run good to begin with. So that should boat right into what the Cowboys wanna do on offense. And that's run the football. You would think. So at least again, it depends on how they block it. It depends on how they scheme it. But you know, a team being not saying being without three of their best linebackers, but then being banked up that is a good sign for the running game. What they can do all the ground. But let's move on from this injury report. Let's talk about what's important. And that's how the Cowboys match up with the falcons again both of these teams coming in or. No, still guess you could say they're still technically individuals even though the falcons probably hurt of due to the saints being as good as they are. But both teams are still in the thick of things..

They have though, but you don't pay attention to it because you don't care. So you don't know that the best Mexican soccer team as a player, they might have played a Huston. The Mexican government goes keep. Mexican us. I'm not sure I would call it up a details. Jerry, just saying why would we take our best game of the year and give it to foreign countries globally. You really are a moron. God you did mention just quickly. You mentioned the Browns before I did did I now we. The scrub. Jag. Yes. So we as fans always wonder what players do think when they're getting ready for an enough yet. I wonder that. So the falcons played the Browns. And I believe you during a break one point yesterday said when you were in here the held the falcons lose to the Brown. Yes. Well, here's devante Campbell. He's a falcons linebacker. This was him in the post game was hosts game quite honest as a team we would just like it's the Cleveland Browns. And.

"So. At receiver. Cris Godwin had the best buck score fantasy line six for fifty six and a touchdown among the bucks. Receiver shame really spread it out last week in his first start. A Chris. God had nine targets, but you know, he's, he's overall his core usage really not change fifty percent of the snaps and ran twenty six routes which was fourth among their wag receivers. Mike Evans ran forty four routes at Humphries forty one Sean, Jackson, twenty nine Scott, went twenty six. So I think that he's going to continue to be touchdown. Her bus guy now is produced in spite of being that to disppointed. He's only he's averaging under a few were under fifty yards per game, but he escorted four or five games. But when he does not score and we saw this against the bears in week four, he's going to hurt you. So he is a fairly risky wide receiver. Three flex option against the Browns Sean Jackson seventy. Seven scoreless shards last week, but man, he dominated air yards. One hundred eighty James really went out of his way to try to target Sean Jackson. They still are working on their communication. I think their chemistry, one of James's deep targets to Sean Jackson was picked off by demonic z. in the game. But I mean, man, that hundred eighty year area. Arts is real real hot for dude of Sean Jackson's. Big playability nine targets tied Chris God win for the team lead. I'm looking to play him where I can this week d- jacks. I think that the Brown will stick dens award. Mike Evans. I don't think it's it's certain. It's possible that they stick him on d. Jack's actually, but Dunn's award has been fantastic, held John Brown below sixty arts on fourteen targets week. Five in last week held Keenan Allen to sixty two scoreless yards. He is Denver award is five eleven one eighty three. That was the biggest knock on him coming out of college. Well, one of them was that he only two interceptions in his college career, but other one was that he only one hundred eighty three pounds. And Mike Evans is frigging six, five two thirty one. So he's got like a fifty pound size advantage on this little rookie. Some not really gonna try to over think it. I think data bigger concern is that Mike have is just really not been heavily targeted by James Winston, but I think that the that, you know it's a very, very small sample that we're looking at here. I mean six quarters of James Winston, and I've seen a lot of concern on on on Twitter regarding Mike Evans. Maybe losing fantasy value, which Amos quarterback of madness teen is going to be in shootouts. All year long. So I think that might Kevin's as actually in a pretty good Bilo situation OJ Howard. The students just like Gumby he is, you know, he has this MC l. sprain and he plays in spite of it. And he is awesome in the game for targets for catches sixty two yards and a touchdown. He is number six among all NFL tight ends in yards per game. And that puts him in position. I mean, he's gotta be fantasies starter every week in that kind of position. Even if you look at, you know, his targets two, four, eight, three, four. I mean, that's not great, but he's been just wildly efficient. Going back to last season. He ease, he's truly a beast and he's only going to get healthier in the Browns lost. Joe Schober te last week, people may not know who he is. He is in a place every single snap in the Browns defense. He was a pro bowler last year and that's going to hurt their tight end coverage. So I think it okay. Howard started with confidence Cameron break, of course teases us with an early touchdown. Last week beats devante devante. Campbell of the falcons for fifteen yard score is only target of the game by thirty three percent of the snaps. You know, he's going to need Jay Howard to get hurt, admits time to be. Be bankable fantasy. Starter Baker Mayfield on other sides starts the first leg of this. Great, great, great. Run the we discussed last week of optimal matchups against this Buchan years is get the most points per game in the NFL moves yards per play so bad. As you mentioned that they had to fire their defensive coordinator. They replaced him with linebackers coach Mark Duffner who came up under Mike Smith with the Jaguars..

"Us today have joined us on the shell Pennzoil performance line. All right coming back from the break. We're gonna talk about the NFC south before we get into each team in that division talk about Derrick cutter. And I want to talk about why is he so mad take a listen to this. I today we couldn't make enough changes. We should fire every person that was feel today starting to me that was that was horrific. No one hundred percent on us. Give cotton credit for making the plays. We were not good in in any aspects. And as far as we can talk about what what plays or called on both sides. And we definitely could coach better today. There's no question about that. But we are meeting in all aspects of football today and and coaching as well. Congregating? This. Well, we don't know that right now. Unfortunately. I'm sure I'm sure that'd be plenty of speculation about that. But you know, not gonna know that tell you certainly not the way that we want to go into our by week. Of course, not. I mean, we got up to a hot start and now two losses in a row going into the bye week. But at the same time it is one of sixteen. I don't I don't say that with any happiness in my voice. I mean, you know, we stunk today and all in all facet. Yeah. I understand why he's angry. I mean think about it. It was all good two weeks ago. We had the post game conference Ryan fits magic. As we were calling him two weeks ago came into the press conference, everyone's laughing everything's all light-hearted fast forward to this week. And he's setting telling you what the tone is in the locker room. What's going on with the bucks right now? I mean, look like a different team. What's going on with the bucks right now is you know, outside of Gerald McCoy. They don't have a lot of defense of playmakers Jason Pierre Paul but in that defensive backfield if you're bringing Justin Evans, Isaiah Johnson, Ryan Smith and Brent Grimes. And then those guys get hurt and you have to go to young players like, Jordan Whitehead. There's going to be mix ups and coverage there were there were guys who are college open in that game today. You don't see that often the the NFL you've got the small windows that you have to hit. There weren't a lot of small windows that Mitchell Trubisky had footballs into today with his six touchdown pass. Oh, and that's where we try to balance that when were talking about Trubisky and how good he was not too long ago where hey, maybe some of the guys who are throwing completely wide open as well. And so that's what needs to be balanced with end. You didn't really get much pressure without Gerald McCoy in there. There's to push the middle of the pocket for that. Tampa Bay defence cutter. Okay. We give up three hundred and fifty four yards. Passing to the one hundred one hundred forty on the ground really scored ten points. You start looking at this again, there really wasn't a whole lot. We did. Well, there wasn't anything. We did. Well, we didn't cover anybody. We didn't protect our quarterback couldn't complete balls down the field. We couldn't stop the run. And so when the s question, which is good is this just a blip, or is this something that's indicative of a trend. He'd probably love to say. Hey, it's just a blip. But he doesn't know that he's got to sit down and take a look and figure out. Hey, what are we doing personnel wise? And then also what are we doing ski wise that maybe these guys have some issues we've got to try to protect them a little bit better because they're young. We have to simplify maybe we have to try to explain it more walk-throughs, whatever it is. We can't have guys who are just running wide open before because maybe we were crappy ice cream a couple of weeks ago and everything's going our way now in a situation we have to go out there and find ways to manufacturer victories you ever been on a team or heard of circumstances where it's just seems like it's eleven strangers in the same uniform because they've got enough. Talent Levada David is one of the best kept secrets in the game seven years six years later, as you mentioned I mean, Jason Pierre Paul and no Joe McCoy, but they've got talent on defensive side of the football. Just doesn't look like there is any cohesion. I mean the Trey Burton touchdown. I I don't know if they were in man or half of more in zone, but you got a guy who's who's blatantly. Open running up the sideline all all. He has to do is drop it in the bucket. And then you look back at the thirty point first half they gave up against Pittsburgh. I don't Pittsburgh got a lot of weapons, but thirty points in a half, you got to figure something out. They thought they did in the second half. You can't rely on forty points a game being put up by Ryan Fitzpatrick. I mean, you know, you're gonna turn into what you are every single year at some point. And he he has been a guy who's had a hot two or three games. But for whatever reason he comes back down to earth that's been his career arc. So at some point you're going to have to figure out if this doesn't work. How are we going to make sure we escape some of these pitfalls? I think that's the next question. Now Jameis Winston is the ball where. You know, everybody was celebrating Ryan Fitzpatrick, including Sean Jackson now you have to get on on the same page with a guy who this team is supposed to belong to coming off to debilitating losses like they have. And so I guess when I look at this. I try to figure out where is the leadership coming from in that locker room does Jameson. I think he's a vocal guy. I don't know if I wanted to find him as the leader on the offensive side of the ball mentioned, David very talented linebacker. There's a fall into his lap Gerald McCoy really kind of the centerpiece inside. But when he's out there, it's tough for someone to turn and look to and say, okay, guys, it's twenty one to three we have an offense. Mike evans. Sean jackson. We can score points. But it's a sure we've got to find a way to get stops until they get going. And if you don't have that guy that can kind of stem, the tide then you might be in for some issues. And so I keep looking at this box team. I don't think Dirk cutter. I I think he's a great offensive coordinator. And I think he can be a good head coach. But he's not he doesn't strike me as that strong personality either. So when I look at this box. Roster and the coaching staff who who is the guy that's going to be that lighthouse in the storm when the ways or crashing down there still shining. The light saying listen, we can get this done. We just have to relax and make sure that we're patient and not panic twenty dollars sandwiches and now lighthouses. I'm learning. As even as things seem to be going downhill for the bucks right now. They're still not the ones that are at the bottom of the NFC south. It's falcons who are one in three and who would have known that the falcons with the weapons that they have. I know they've had some injuries. But with the weapons that they have who would have thought that they would be one in three after week four. I mean, Bobby what do you think is up with the falcons what's going on? Well, I think they found a way to lose close games. And they're a team that has been really good. And when you lose close games, you're going to have a poor record. Because in the NFL, the reality is very rarely do you see what happened today with the bears and box where you see blowouts or even ten point margins of victory. Most of the games played our games that are gonna come down to a play here a play there. No matter if a team opens up a fourteen point lead like the Browns head on the raiders teams are too good at the NFL. They're gonna find a way to get back in and you have to find a way to close games. So close loss to start the season to Philadelphia they beat the Panthers divisional foe. You got back on track. They lose a one score game heart Richard to the saints. And then they lose a one point game to the Bengals like they've been in every game. They can't look at something like. We just got blown out by thirty five forty points. But in every game, but it's almost more concerning because they've had the red zone issues. And now, it's how do we find a way to close out these games? We have tons of offense of talent we have to find a way to put the ball in the end zone when it matters most. I think the most important part is they've scored thirty seven and thirty six back to back weeks. I think no Dion Jones. No Kiana Neil up the middle of that defense is showing right now you've replaced that with devante Campbell. And casey. I mean, you've got two guys supposed to be you stalwarts who aren't there and teams are running up. The middle teams are scoring down the middle of the field on them there. There's nothing happening up the middle defensively for them. So you could score thirty seven and thirty six lose. I think gotta look at the defense. It's interesting because it's been close with the falcons and they've been losing. It's been close with the saints and they've been winning. They have opposite records. You know? I it's it's interesting in the NFC south right now. Okay. We are underway on Sunday night football as the Steelers are hosting the ravens. We'll talk about that all coming up next. It's football frenzy on ESPN radio and ESPN app. ESPN.

"Right here on CBS sports radio. Let's get a goal and we three in the National Football League. Football sunday. We'll talk to Jim Miller who's a former NFL quarterback. Now does offend tastic job on Sirius XM NFL radio. And he's kind enough to join us right now. Jim thanks for the time. How are you? You bet. Always good to be with you. And. Yeah, get ready for week. Three matchup exciting. And hopefully, some people can really find the right entities this weekend. We'll Jim thanks for coming on. Let's start off with the Browns who played on Thursday night. Extremely impressive performance by Baker Mayfield. What stood out to you the most with the rookie quarterback? And how do you view and moving forward and how do you project his career? Yeah. Yeah. Really? Hey, it was a pleasure to watch it and the other night, and it's just, you know, some things I think our scout -able when you talk about leadership, and and how guy raises the level of play of everybody else, you could see that that whole stadium just got a jolt of of electric city when he was inserted into light. But I think his teammates responded that way as well. I think they always. Felt it as soon as he was drafted. And they got the no type of energy that young man provides. But hey, it was it was impressive. I think he's extremely accurate with the football. He's a tough guy, and he certainly can lead and lead the process of their first victory in quite some time. So I think they got a good one. It's going to be hard for you. Put the two back in the bottle. You just got to roll with this young guy. He's going to be something special ID and you look at the Browns through three games. I know they only have one win. But you could make an argument that they could have more than one victory after see them right now to start the season. Do you have an idea of how many wins you pencil the Browns? And for I still think there's gonna be some doubt. He's young quarterback. He's gonna make his mistakes. But I think if they're eight and eighteen you got a few that as a huge success. You know, they they had some good teams on the row specifically the Steelers were able to finish it off. So, you know, I think they are young talented, but they're gonna that's normally what young talented teams, do they make probably two more too many more mistakes than what they should and Baker is gonna make a few as this year unfold. So I would think eight Nate would be a great season for the Cleveland Browns talking to Jim Miller right now on CBS sports radio. And of course, Jim Brown's fans definitely take the stage their franchises currently at. Let's move onto a little red scare. Pins and Packers Rogers on the road has been talking about the concern with the injury. But this is a Redskins team. That has an underrated front seven. I think they're just trying to build some chemistry break down a little Packers and Redskins for me. Yeah. I was upset that the Redskins didn't show up last week. They got booed at hold Indianapolis kinda came in there and outclassed him. And it's not like the Redskins made a lot of mistakes on offense. But I don't think moving forward, you know, Chris tops in their leading receiver somebody has to step up. Whether it's Paul Richardson, whether it's Jordan Reed, who we know. He's a terrific player that they need to feed him the ball. And I think defensively I'm with you where where was the pressure last week got Andrew lock that offense. The wind was a mess for Indianapolis and Ryan Kerrigan, and and basically that defensive front didn't put the pressure on them they needed. I think these sweet different this week. And I do I think the Redskins will respond. I like them at home in Aaron Rodgers as good as he is. You can't get away with just not practicing for a multitude of weeks. So here he didn't practice last week in practice the week before granted they got the victory. But that starts them out. The only way you can get better at your craft is being out on the field practicing. I understand why they're doing it. And he's talented when you just wonder if he's going to start to get a little rusty when he's really not practicing out of daily basis with his teammates since you mentioned the colts. Jim let's get to a game that I'll be at later today. A little eagles in cold some familiarity with these two teams because of the relationship with Doug Peterson Frank Reich who was the OC last year for the eagles Super Bowl, Ron. But this one is about the quarterbacks Carson Wentz. Coming back from the injury off the ACLU and another week of Andrew lock. How about these two quarterbacks with their injury pass? Yeah. The both these teams come in beat up. I mean already six players ruled out for the Colson and here in Philadelphia, they're banged up specifically at the running back and wide receiver position. So it could be a lot. Wendo Smallwood at running back also Clemente whose whose questionable going this game. Those could be the only two running backs and you'd like to think Doug Peterson watch a balanced attack. You don't really protect Carson Winston his return. You know with the play calling. You just eat us wonder, I just hope for Carson Wentz to say he protects himself. He says he's going to be the same player. And I quote, you know, he just needs to play smarter. He needs to protect themselves because the Philadelphia Eagles need him on the field for the rest of the season. I hope that all Sean Jeffrey he's listed as questionable. I hope. He gets clear before gametime 'cause they are down at receivers. But overall, Philadelphia's the better team, they just got a mind their Ps and qs in terms of their secondary that got whooped our, and I would think T Y Hilton really needs to be a guy that they need to focus on I expect silly to rebound this weekend. Let's continue to jump around the NFL gem saints and falcon saints a little bit disappointing to start off the season. And we saw the falcons go up against the. The eagles and Philadelphia and they had their red zone problems with them bounce back and week number two just have a little bit in the saints falcons. Yeah. I I like the falcons in this one one at all. And obviously, it's it probably could go with the over because these two teams could put up a lot of points. But I like I like Atlanta 'cause they ran the football. You don't granted devante Freeman out and he's been out last week as well. But I really liked the way seven Coleman really must it north and south New Orleans defensive they've struggled the first two weeks of the season. But drew Brees always keeps a minute. It's a division game. I expect it to be big at home and even with the injuries to Atlanta's defense. People forget, Duke Riley. Devante campbell. They also those two guys let their team in tackles each had nine a piece. So I think there's enough there defensively where Atlanta could get a stop or two and drew Brees because it's really been a one man show. It's been Michael Thomas, and they really haven't gotten Alvin Kamara cranked up as late. So the pass rush isn't there? And I would think that Ryan could have a pretty good game along with his running game as well. Jim Miller right now, the former NFL quarterback on CBS sports radio. Jim you gotta be excited for chiefs and forty nine or is a little Jimmy G up against the very talented, Patrick Mahomes. Yeah. To to athletic quarterbacks who got quick releases and deliver the football with accuracy. I would it's tough to bet against Kansas City right now is bad as their defense is until shit some some other team or some defense shows that they can slow them down in what the formula is. You know that remains to be seen just yet? So I'm gonna roll of Kansas City at home arrowheads a tough place to play is Jimmy G on the road. Granted San Francisco gets Reuben foster back which should help. But how many places are you gonna play? I think it's going to be tough for him to play a seventy snap game. So I would think Kansas City with all their offensive weapons should emerge victorious in this one. So I like San Francisco, but they they just are not there yet. They still need a couple more pieces. And that's why they they were even interested in Josh, Gordon, because they know there are a couple of players away. So I'll take Kansas City at all. There was a lot of pressure on the homes just because of the talent that he's surrounded by on the offensive side of the ball in Kansas City and through the first two weeks of the season. I know it's early. He's the MVP the league right now for me. Have you been surprised with how quickly he's been able to transition to success in the National Football League? Why I think one has his father was a professional baseball player. He's been around pro players before. And I think he's seen guys growing up for what they need to do to prepare at the highest level sports. So I think he feels very comfortable in that locker what his expectation is. And what's expected of him? I think Andy Reid is tremendous if bring long young quarterbacks he's drafted many whether it's Nichols. Whether it's a guy like Kevin Cobb who they traded away in Philadelphia. He's really good at developing them. And even he can trade them away and get the draft picks for him. And I think he's been tremendous with Patrick Mahomes inserted them late in the year. He did get one start got his feet wet. And now you see the carryover with great weapons around. If you look at that supporting cast, I mean, those are all veterans around. That's the way you want a doctorate in fact, a young quarterback and may have it with Kelsey hill. Currently the receivers are fantastic the running games good with Kareem hunt. And they've got a good offense ally. So it's kind of the perfect situation now for them. They just got to get their defense up to snuff, that's really the area that team they've overhauled. And boy, they struggle. The past couple of weeks, and why Kansas City had to put up so many points. No question about it. And let's stay with the another AFC west NFC west matchup later today. A little chargers going up against the Rams the Rams to the first two weeks. Look like the most complete team Amer still trying to figure out what the LA chargers are ten the charges defeat. The Rams coming up later, man. I wish Philip rivers a came into a season and he had a full deck of cards. He never seems to have a full deck of cards to play with here. Joey Bosa is out we know the other issues with thirteen Corey legit these still suspended, so they're not quite at full strength. But that offense has been impressive. They put up over four hundred fifty yards week when you look between Gordon. Boeckler and what Philip rivers has done. He's got six touchdowns and only one interception. So offensively I think they can hang. I think the problem is defensively, you know, again, they don't have their top pass rushers and this a high scoring offense that dabbling in four hundred yards a game as well. When you look at the Rams, so the matchup is probably Casey Hayward on Brandin cooks. But ultimately, it's all the other weapons for for the Rams. I liked girly in this batch up. I think they'll be able to run the football because the defensive front a little bit light. So yeah, the Rams are good football team. And they're going to really really show it as they try to fight for that LA crowd. And I would think the Rams what would it be on top? And this one Jim Miller with this right now on CBS sports radio Jim with your Chicago background just give us a little feel a Mitch Trubisky. And how you it is place. So far..
"devante campbell" Discussed on Dual Threat with Ryen Russillo
"I think it was forget which conference game it was last year, but I just I fell in love with Rosen, even if I think that maybe darnold. Based on all the personality stuff that you hear about. People just kinda like gravitate towards Donald more. So if you were darnold guy more than Rosen, I wouldn't argue with you about it. I thought Rosen was the most NFL ish of the guys and then Donald does what he does in his opener. And I didn't think as bad as it was pick six and your I throw. I can never figure out if that is remarkable that a quarterback comes back from something like that on your first career throat or if we may be overrate, that kind of stuff because he's a top, pick the skills are there. I don't know what the hell the lions doing right now, but I liked it and I don't know that I'm entirely shocked by anything. I saw from the opener from him. I would've crested down that was the most rookie play. You could ever start a career with and it was it was what made, what made it so rookie? It was a predetermined thrill those little leak back routes or the back door. People around those tend to be open in September, and I'm sure that he was just assuming it's opening throws any learns the hard way. Don't do that in the NFL, but to play the way he did right after that, I was very impressed and it was impressed with the jets to stay with their game plan. Darnold gonna be really interesting to me Ryan because it's a little bit like the way you play with him, it'd be similar to what you'd probably do. It Dak Prescott where we're talking about on the move rollouts, bootleg the jets, the debt eight tonne into Troy at the great way to limit the feel to you slice it and half. So it's easier reads for young QB, but what step darnold potential in my jury is still out on him. I, I did not watch a ton of USC stuff, NFL guy, but what gives me pause that he might have really something special. The arm talent is pretty good. His ball comes out differently. Even on on the moves, throws a lot of those on the move quarterbacks. I wanna do. Because I read it, I was in, I was in agreement with you until the Steelers thing. So you picked it Lanta Pittsburgh, correct? Yeah. Okay. The Pittsburgh thing always scares me. It's not because they tied the Browns. I just think that's a weird team, a weird group of personalities and despite their talent, I feel like a bit of a letdown, but when I looked at Atlanta's defense and the Vikings roster was tufted get past loving the depth there, especially on their defense, but now to lose Neil and Jones at linebacker that was just announced. How does that change? Not only everyone wondering if Matt Ryan was hurt and what was a bad game from him in the open against Philadelphia a game, they were still in. I think foles great either. But Philly gets the win, whatever. But now Atlanta missing one of the best safeties and I think one of their best hits on a draft pick and Jones at linebacker. How does that change what you think of them? The rest of the way. What isn't it? Breaking news demanded in the film room for the last several hours is Jones out. I'm learning this from you right now. How long Jones l. for I believe he's just put on the i. r. so I. Huge loss. I thought they could survive the Kiana meal. I think meals excellent player to, but they're versatile faith with Ricardo Allen. He can play strong safety. Free fits better cover guy, but to take Jones out of the equation bet, doesn't benefit kill them. Duke Riley back. She probably just as fast as Jones, but there's a reason Jones is the guy that plays every map. What really made Atlanta's defense improve over the last year and a half is two guys among others. They could man-to-man corners, and then these two guys, Neil Jones could also play MandA band Jones or take be running back. And then Neil would take tight end sometimes devante Campbell takes tight end. They had options in man coverage..

"Super Dion Jones devante Campbell and Duke Riley, three superfast linebackers. You want to get guys like that reacting and kind of hesitating just a little bit to negate that speed. And I think the way you do that is to go after them in this case or other times you want to try to attack them schematically these guys. I'd just go after them right away and make them happy face blockers. Anything else you wanna talk about when it comes to eagles offense versus falcons defense. Not really other than it'll be interesting to, especially with the injuries at wide receiver for Philadelphia right now, it'll be interesting to see what they do, what they're too tight. End packages was backwards in Dallas collared there that'll be in last year, the foul, you know what you're going to get Kiana, Neil and devante Campbell will be the ones who match up against those guys, but I'm real interested to see what it means when those are on the field together. Yeah, Dallas Goddard is a is a fun rookie here. Nice, nice replacement. They for Trey Burton, and I think we're, we're gonna have to see him thrown into the fire early here, straight out of South Dakota state, not to be confused with Carson Wentz his alma mater in North Dakota state, but. Anti-poor move on yellow only with NFL game pass. You get every atom market game. Pre excuse me. Preseason game live top rookies comeback players, new players on new teams at all, happens in the preseason live with NFL game pass. That's actually the only place so far you may to see a little bit of Dallas Godart now I'm not sure who's going to be protected who's going to say on the sideline for this final week of the preseason. But I do hope we get see Lamar Jackson one more time. He seemed to have made some strides in the in last week's game against Miami, and I think there are better things coming down the line for him as he becomes more comfortable against the NFL defense is here I can watch Lamar Jackson and the ravens live in the preseason. If I miss his game, I can replay it after it's aired whoever you want to watch this preseason, you'll need NFL game pass to do so if you're at a market. But I think my favorite thing about pre. Season week four is it's chance to see all those Cinderella stories emerge all the guys you've never heard of who will become impact players in league. I remember the years. I it Willie Parker, Victor Cruz, Fred Jackson up in buffalo. Those are the guys who emerging in the final preseason week. It's really great opportunity. A great opportunity who's next mixture to watch all the action. This.

And so for those of you that weren't here last year, the way we do this, we get five news items every week. That's what we're going to do here, and then I'll get to all of your questions on periscope. Everybody on periscope. You hang on for about fifteen minutes, ten fifteen minutes, and we'll get to all of your questions. Okay, news. Item number one. Julio Jones will not report to falcons training camp without a revised deal. He's got three years left on his current deal. The falcons told him that if he showed up. Up that they redo his contract after the season. He's saying that's not good enough. He's one of six veteran players that I think we're all going to be watching this week or five now with David Johnson reporting, the other four that they're still hasn't been word on. I stunned if Aaron Donald showed up to Rams camp, I don't think he'll be there, but he's one of the five along with Jones Khalil Mack till the lawn and Earl Thomas, and I sort of can separate these guys in the categories. Now, David Johnson would be in the category with Taylor Lewan with Khalil Mack with Aaron, Donald, those guys are coming off of rookie deals. Those guys are looking for life changing money Jones, and Thomas earn a little bit of a different category. And those two are similar in one way in different in another. I can't blame either of those guys for giving this shot. Both of them are approaching thirty years old. Both of them have played at the highest level at their positions. And each of those guys knows that they're football mortality is right in front of him. So you know, I think with any football player, you get closer to thirty unless you're a qu-. Quarterback and you probably look at it and you say, I don't know how many more bites of the apple I'm gonna get. I'm gonna give this a shot. I don't blame those guys at all, forgiving it a shot. The idea that maybe I could get one last big payday and put some pressure on the team to give me one that piece of it. Makes sense. Okay. The difference between Thomas and Jones is the Thomas in the final year of a contract. Julio Jones has three years left, and I think for the falcons as much as they value Julio Jones, the precedent that would set would be a problem for them. They've got a lot of young guys, they're trying to take care of. And so I think the question sort of becomes here who blinks first, you know, Julio Jones has over sixty million dollars in career earnings. He's been responsible with his money. He's got the financial wherewithal do incur the fines and to continue sitting in a he is resolved to wait this thing out. He's got the ability to do that on the flip side, the falcons just drafted Calvin Ridley. It actually could help them early. Encamp to give Ridley the wraps that the Jones might have gotten. They might look at it and say, well, he'll be healthier when he comes back because he's not gonna have the wear and tear of having gone through camp. But once they closer to the season, the very clearly in a championship window, they've got a lot of young guys in that defense that are going to be up for contract soon and you guys all know the core, they've got Vic Beasley, devante Campbell Dion Jones, kion o.'neil. There are a lot of young guys in that defense, and those guys aren't going to be on contracts forever. And so they're very clearly in a window to compete for a championship now. And so the question becomes who blogs I and I don't know. There's an easy answer to this one. There's also a subplot here, and this applies to all these guys. It applies to Julio. It applies Earl. It applies to Khalil Mack. It applies to enter Donald. It applies to David Johnson. Applies.

"Know really staying true to the principles of how we play and there's a saying like bruce lee one he was you know you're not the man with ten thousand kicks but the man who's done one kick ten thousand times and that principle is like for the players it's the repetitions of over and over when you play within one scheme right and i'm not saying that's the best way but that's the best way for us to t shirt and there's a lot of people that can play multiple things which is really challenging on a quarterback has no right but there's also some on the other side on the defensive side of the good at one thing as a quarterback even go man they're really good at this what do we do to stop it right and you know where some of the plays that people try to attack you are but you need some time in the scheme to know over and over and over again and that's why i'm excited about some of the guys in our system you know that have now had a lot of those reps that's true offered him ricardo allen now kiana neil going into your three and offered me devante campbell and joan stop on one of them is neil i mean kam chancellor junior just talk about him it's really the toughness part you know that he brings at strong state the system you'll likely downplaying in the box so you'd better be on your run fits you'd better be able to cover tight ends man to man and having the physicality by the line of scrimmage that part of his game is really intact and then i liked the part that he goes for the ball i think he has in his two years as eight four fumbles in two years season ended in philadelphia in the division around against the eagles right there did you have any inkling after that game that you were playing the team that was going to finish the job and run the table and win at all i knew they really talented and you saw how well they executed in the red zone there was really rock solid parts of their game both lines of scrimmage we're really good and when both lines of scrimmage are good offense align defensive line stopping the run they're able to run a path for rush you're going to be you know pretty capable.
