"Short field for a race like this. So Country Grammars here how does he turn around on a twenty three day rest? You know the timing doesn't freak me out as much as it would if it were say sub twenty and I know it's you know it's kind of splitting hairs there. But if anybody can have a horse ready, it's going to be Chad Brown on the one issue that I would have in looking at country grammars past performances and and how this horses run. You know on the one hand where I am not somebody who needs to see a horse win every race I am somebody. Like his the law or or even honoree piece record for the most part out here in southern California. But with country grammar, he's he's been hit or missing his career more importantly though when you look back at it, he's been four wide three wide lost footing five wide. He bumped even in winning the Peter Pan. So I don't know that that he is his own best friend I think he may have to I think more more than even time between races were watching a horse developmentally and. Bed He may be his own worst enemy in that if he can't overcome, he's clearly shown that he can win in a troubled trip but if he gives himself too much to do there may not be an horse for I read to work with their. Now uncle. Chuck ups the Ante doesn't want in the twinkling of an eye. He gets on Thames free ice to go coming around the far turn and uncle chuck putting the nostrils in front of great power thousand words marching onto the backup on Google. Chuck. Uncle Chuck by one length thousand words trying hard to get on terms. But Uncle Chuck has delayed. He's cleary's increasing his margin coming Pasta Sixteenth Powell uncle chuck raising away from thousand words Uncle Chuck by three. Uncle Chuck now represents one of trainer Bob Baffert best two chances to win a record tying sixth Kentucky Derby. Then Jones has the record though he really didn't train citation in nineteen, forty, eight, his son did. So you might say that Baffert is already tied for the record, but anyway, not too long ago we thought we'd be talking about Nidal and Charlatan is baffled Derby chances they're on the sidelines uncle chuck will try to do something. Almost as if not more impressive than what triple crown winner justify did two years ago remember justify won the triple crown after not debut in until February of his two year old year uncle chuck did not surface on the track until June one, the Los Alamos Derby last month and comes in here as a very strong choice is the thinking here it's Bob Baffert. Of course, he's going to win or is uncle chuck up against it here? Honestly, think it's a little bit of both I think this is a classic Bob Baffert move. The work line is quick. The horses talented the horses undefeated two for two with eleven late combined win margin. The horse has done it pretty easily sayas. Really give a great ride at at Los LS timeout in in winning the Sal Derby this is a horse who. I believe probably would have been on the justified train timeline with kind of a February debut. I think when they my guess is I have no inside knowledge on this but my guess is that when they saw what Kobe was going to do that. was going to be ready in probably early March given kind of what you can see in the in the in the work tab line. My guess is I would have been ready about March they went. You know what? We're going to give them a little bit of time we're going to let him develop. He's got he doesn't have the most precocious pedigrees. He has a beautiful pedigree. His Mama was was really neat horse but I think this is a horse who in any other year we would have been talking about back half or as A. Four year old this horse they traverse horse in any given year makes total sense whether or not he debuted in June or otherwise. I think this is a horse. He needed some probably needed some time mentally I know that that bother originally had the horse in the shared was looking at this shared belief is kind of an insurance policy. He already had two other horses in the race. So why not I know this was the race they wanted anyway this is a great one this horse stallions, pedigree I mean this is you know everything about. This screams classic Bob, and this is not a horse that was going to go. One thing when they knew authentic was pedaling. The haskell was not going to be a hassle horse though he fits that bill as as almost exactly. The same. Personally I think the litmus test of can he beat horses that have this much experience I don't care who chuck's work had been in the morning. There is just a difference between his the law who has traveled and done it and run it and his laws case wanted you know country grammar has five lifetime. Starts like you know even some of the more long shoddy horses you know first line or chivalry who for the record I love chivalry in the Florida Derby. Still one of my greatest plays of the year I don't care what races we run, but you know a horse like chivalry who's run twelve times goes up against a horse like uncle check have to contend with that. He's still figuring out and it's the first time he shipping he still has to figure out what it is to come off a plane walk into a paddock you've never walked into. Luckily he knows jock but surroundings he's never been in a paddock. He's never been in a gate. He's no gate crew never seen horses are really adaptable, and by the way you're also asking him to run. I believe further yet Ben, he's ever run before. So you know it's a little bit of a tall task for uncle check. However, it's Baffert. Anything is possible if you are looking for a horse to play that isn't to the law or even country grammar of course, Uncle Chuck is logical but warning he's GonNa be a shorter price. Then at least in my world, I would be comfortable taking. Molly Joe Rosen who hosts the beyond the racist podcast on the believe network is with us here on in the gate. Let's quickly touch on the Ellis Park Derby and then hit the bigger Kentucky Derby Picture. You'd have to think that bluegrass stakes when our art collector is going to tower over this field at Ellis. Park. What a terrific story Tommy drewery very heretofore known trainer thrust into the limelight. What does he do with art? Collector. Plenty of points to qualify for the Kentucky. Derby. As we said about Tis, the law, how cranked will art collector beyond Sunday From. What I read about the work at Churchill this week yes. Even though and especially since it was in the mud and wasn't perfect a perfectly a perfect conditions The cool thing about this derby is we've at least the field is starting to shape up. We've got a Lotta guys the Barclay Tags Sakho stable who already have a derby win we got the Baffert to has like one hundred of these things already you know we get a lot of the guys who have been on the trail obviously Chad and todd have have run their horses plenty on John. Sheriff's well to it's really really really cool to see though especially, the Midwest based horses, the Tommy Drewery, the world because. Greg leaves with. The horse's name I always blank on. You. Know getting to see guys like trauma jury really get the spotlight they deserve. Tommy has has paid his dues. He's he's amazing horsemen trains primarily out of the skylight training center just outside of local does a lot of work with a lot of very, very talented horses for a long time. My understanding was he had a lot of claiborne on layup so they would be with alcohol they would go to Tommy Tommy would work with them for a little bit and then they would they would ship back to Al. that's incredibly common in all of horse racing where where you see that and it really is a sign of. Confidence when when an owner and a barn with such a storied history. Uses, you know somebody who's who's got equally as storied, but maybe not as public a history at as Tommy. It's really cool to.
Final Derby Dress Rehearsals
"The favourite for Saturday's travers stakes is the Belmont stakes winner Tis the law, the owners of the law, a group of fairly regular guys from the Saratoga area they go by Saka. Toga stables are the same guys who owned funny side the winner of the two, thousand, three, Kentucky Derby and preakness they showed up to each triple crown race in a yellow school bus, not a limo. It was a scene to which many of us could relate but I'm going to give you a comparison of two other. Owners of horses running in Saturday's travers they are and Lori Hall who owned the Third Place Finisher in the Belmont Max Player and Orlando and Jonathan Noda who liked their travers entrant I line are the longest of longshots George Hall is the founder of a Hedge Fund, the Clinton Group that company's assets reached a high of five and a half billion dollars in two thousand, sixteen. Orlando Noda is a thirty one year old trainer who co all of his horses with his brother. Jonathan who's in the car business? George Hall and his wife Lori sold a six level. Manhattan penthouse in two thousand seventeen for somewhere around thirty eight million dollars. Orlando notice biggest return on investment so far has been the horse not loves a fight who not claimed for ten thousand dollars in May of two, thousand nineteen and whose win a month later represented his trainers I ever. T loves a fight won four races for his trainer and finished second last week in the John Morrissey at Saratoga. You. Get the idea Max player for George and Lori. Hall won the withers stakes back in February and finished third in the Belmont. STAKES IN JUNE FIRST LINE FOR ORLANDO. Noda just earned his first win in four tries and he's returning on only ten days rest to take on an imposing field. But if his trainers story is any harbinger, don't count first line out and we are pleased to welcome to win the game for the first time the trainer of First Line Orlando Noda what went into the decision to turn this horse around in just ten days. The horse came out of it good and I nominated him prior to even run especially. Like figure that especially wasn't GonNa go I was I was GONNA test my luck there and restaurant him because. The horse had shown me talent ever since I had him and I think got strike while the iron is hot right now and everything is just clicking on all cylinders. So I. Think we're just going to give it a go is not every day that we can have a three year old peak at the right time via because of this corona virus that maybe I might might just be able to pull off the upset and get my derby points that that I high horse up about the beginning. You would said to a couple of racing aficionados over the winter that you had a derby horse and first line what made you think that then Oh no the horses super talented it from the first time that we breathed him. We knew we had something special. I'm not the lightest of riders and horses just noting on track with me and I just can't picture it. Any other way because everything has played out to where it should as he broke his. Maiden here in Saratoga and I think the past two races, six furlongs, it was just the the too short for him for his long strident. He just went comfortable and those fractions buying the mollering Nathan not many horses hold up biting the whole time that they are at the top of the stretch hometown in first line and they've been at it. Right from the START I line on the outside pokes ahead and front hometown continues to battle down at the rail. Now, they're at the eighth bowl it is first line and hometown go to battle for a mile and a furlong here first line hud and front hometown not giving up they come for the finish and first line is first under the wire. Race I'm wondering if he's even cooled out yet from that race, I mean that was affirmed and Alydar Rier Dan Against Jaipur was neck and neck for a mile and an eighth I mean, how do you think that part of a racist going to affect him the ten days notwithstanding? Even fresh I'm not doing much with him and. Keep Afresh to the to the race. Then you gotta show up on the race checking in, and that's how he is all game once it gets onto the track. IS A. Very level-headed. Once once he gets into training just like train I'm just giving just. Keep them -freshing raider fire. For for the drivers.
Dodgers Out-Slug Padres to Win High-Scoring Affair
"A stunning finish on the double play off the bat of the former dodger manny. Machado as the dodgers hold on at pet, go to win seven six, they win the series as well over the Padres, two games to one John Shea Jim Russell back with you here on the wrap up show, we said the padres lead baseball by the way and runs per game last. Last segment. They entered the day third in runs per game at five, and a half runs per game on the season and against scored six runs here today. So they've been very, very good offensively. But again, with the loss, they fall to seven and six on the season. Let's hear from the manager who was jacked for the first time in his career. Here's Jay Taylor game. Yeah, it's always good to see. You know the guys continue to battle and. You. Know we've we. Kind of felt that you know inside the. In the DUGOUT when we've been down never really feel like we're out of it and you know get get the heart of the order up and chance to you know always be in the game and. You know look at the end Mandy you know squared a ball up to to left field and and They made a hell of a play I. Mean it was A. Had to be you know a perfect throw and it was a perfect one hop throw and a intact. So but dancer question Yeah. It's. It's good to see him battling back and chip away and. You know we. You know we we came up short. Your first managerial ejection tonight. That's something that had been building up over the course of the game with Margaret Mature, as more of a spur of the moment reaction to that dish. Now. It's a, it's not built up minutes. Look. I think manny thought the ball was down I. thought it was down and. You know it either I go with me and he goes I'm guessing. So it's simple as up. Your thoughts on how? To. Handle. I thought you know Came in You know we were looking for a little softer landing but. The NFL west, there's there's no soft landing especially with the dodgers and. looking for a spark and. He gave up to ground balls got through and and then obviously Peterson clicking man you know. Peterson Click a couple balls tonight. You know and. But but I was impressed with how he went back out in the second inning and. I thought that was good and it's always nice to kind of You know finish on a on a higher note, and hopefully he gets some confidence and you know continues to go forth. Interesting admission there from JAS Tingler. We were hoping for a softer landing for Luiz Patino. Remember we heard yesterday literally yesterday when he was called up, he would not initially be pitching and high leverage spots. He makes his Major League debut, not not with the lead, but trailing four too. So you could argue the leverage component of it, but Jim again, he went left left right left with the VP that a left-wing cory seager who's read hide Jock Peterson three homers in the series including the homerun again. Again Against Patino and again, you're going to have to get him at one point or another. If you call them up, there's a reason you call it Emma but Jeez in the history of big league debuts, can it be much more difficult for Patina than the inning he had to deal with there could not have been more difficult. You're facing an MVP facing the guys at thirty six bombs last year who was notorious for being i. mean you saw in the home run Derby last year he. Is. Ball's. Chris Taylor their professional hitter. It's not an, there's no easy ways to face the dodgers especially in a four two game. You put him in there hopefully to have Jason, Taylor said this thing and there by the way it's four nothing before with two outs, TAT tease homers. So all of a sudden the dynamic of the game has changed it's chain, but but seniors already ready like you've already said he's GonNa Pitch the sixth, right? Like you wonder again at four nothing there you go. Down seven nothing whatever. But at fourteen like well, I'm back in the game and you don't want him to get up and then sit down again and I'm sure that's the reason why they put them in the game like look he's already ready. Maybe. It might be not the best time to put him in. But look, we just hit a two run bomb to to get us going hopefully and putting a guy in there where he is one of if not the top prospect on this in this organization, hopefully, we can get another spark on this guy route that is
The Curse of Winthrop Falls
"November eighteen sixty six winter falls Massachusetts. As a door slowly creak open. Drawn. grief-stricken face of Alice McClure was revealed from within the homes, dark? Interior. Shame swelled into a solid lump and Henry ups chest, which then rose to his throat as he tried to speak. Finally. Managing to stammer a few words of condolences to Rebecca's mother. Alice quietly expressed her thanks. And opened the door wide to make room for Henry. To enter stepping over the threshold Henry was enveloped into the dense shadows of the sambre room. Bringing his is until they adjusted to the darkness Henry's attention was instantly drawn to Amir of the fireplace which I've been covered in a heavy black velvet. The mere sight of the mirror started his heart racing and sweat to beat along his hairline. Henry followed Alice to the kitchen table where she offered him refreshments. And then poured him a generous glass of whisky. Drink it down lad. It's what we do at a Scottish like Wake Alice explained. Needing little persuasion Henry gulped the whiskey down and just a couple of swigs. The welcome liquid heat felt his body like a naming south. Giving him a pat on the arm. Alice asked Henry to follow her upstairs. Honor the McClure's Scottish traditions as new immigrants to the United States town of winter evolves arranged for a few youths to take turns watching over a Becca body every night until her burial. And tonight it was. Henry's turn. Alice solemnly lead Henry, upstairs to a dimly lit bedroom. Seated around the perimeter of the room or Matilda Hutton Joshua Derby and Sarah. Courier Henry Spell watchers for the night. He and seeing them since that night since Halloween. Greet each other with a nod of their heads Henry's attention was then drawn to the bed at the head of the room. Illuminated by the soft golden glow of candlelight. Lay Rebecca. Dressed in a Ghazi white shroud. Her arms crossed over her chest her eyes closed as if any peaceful sleep. Made a stark contrast to the last time Henry saw her. Crumpled, broken on his family's cellar floor. Alice Motion Henry over to Rebecca's corpse. Upon closer inspection, his first impression of her dissipated. Her Skin blotchy and discolored with a Pale blue cast appear dry and Steph. Her once big expressive is now sunk deep in her skull were scarcely covered by the malted paper thin skin ever eyelids. At the corner of her mouth was a dried cracking drop of blood. Unsure. What was expected of him Henry Finally commented She looks so peaceful. I allies responded. Taking notice of the dried blood. She left her thumb and rubbed the stain vigorously. That is until Rebecca's mouth popped open into a wide silence scream. Henry's friends seated in the room. All audibly startled in their chairs the frightful image. Henry looked at them and with one simple expression they knew. He was telling them to be quiet. Be Still. Without visibly acknowledging the horror of the site before them Alice gently pushed Rebecca Shaw closed and tied at length of cloth a cloth that had been draped on Rebecca's shoulder up around her jaw to the top of her head keeping her mouth forcibly shut once and for all. Sensing that she was waiting for him to do something Henry could only to say, I'll keep good watch over her tonight. I have no doubt. Then Alice looked at Henry and said you must touch her you know. Pardon Henry asked. It's customary is tradition from the old country. Keeps nightmares, illness away they say. PA- mainly, it's a sign of respect. Erin who visits the dead must touch them. She shrugged. Oh. All right. Where shall I touch her? The choice is yours lad. Though in general, most just touch the forehead or shoulder. Wherever, you feel most comfortable. Reaching out Henry's hand begin to tremble slightly as he moved slowly in his uncertainty. As the last moment, he found himself drawn to touch the tight shiny skin of her cheek, but he immediately regretted it and upon feeling her cold rigid flesh, he quickly pulled away.
Locked Down in Switzerland and Belgium
"Start with Stephen mcfeely he operates being be on Ireland's dingle peninsula in just before the pandemic head Stephen an interest in the hotel Oberland in October and Switzerland that's where he's had to ride out the first few months of the global lockdown good and. My goodness. My Irish friend is learning Spitzer dykes. Good here in the Alps where I've been for four months. Now in splendid isolation, my plan originally was just to come for February and March, but I've I'm still here right well, what does the vibe in Switzerland right now there's a positive vibe. The society is reopening. Tourism travel has started again just no we're on the same level as it was before we had two weekends where there was crazy crowds here huge big crowds from all over Switzerland everybody who was here was from Switzerland or had to be from Switzerland. They weren't necessarily all Swiss because there's lots of international people living in Geneva and Derek and whatnot but everybody from within the barger of Switzerland over with crowds, and then it just died and Monday to. Friday went back to being really really quiet. Okay. Well, this is sort of the very beginnings of the rekindling of tourism I would imagine it'll be people traveling with within their own countries first, and then traveling within Europe, and then finally international travel and transatlantic travel. Yes. That's exactly what we're seeing. The borders here have just reopened. So we're expecting Germans and some Austrians and maybe some French to come now also, I don't anticipate huge numbers like that would have been heretofore. One. Very noticeable thing in the Valley of course, there's no American visitors. As you know, the valley also is very popular with. Chinese travelers Indians many people from Dubai and Saudi Arabia would come here and they're not here this year. So there's a noticeable difference there. So the people getting the real cultural change would be the French speaking. Swiss. German speaking part of his Switzerland and not even leaving their own country exactly. Fifty percent of our guests. Last week were French speaking Swiss and it was the first time I've ever actually met those people and I would say to them. Are you French Swiss would say no, no, we are. All MOM and so I I learned something new immediately the K. The identify as swirl. They were saying exactly what you just said they said it's like we are in a different country it's very dramatic here it's different toossion either those on the do shut down it was really cool. They were very excited to see a different part of their own country. So that was wonderful. Now Stephen you own a hotel in Ireland in Dingle Peninsula and now you own a hotel in Switzerland in Loudoun valley two of my favorite places as a businessman working in both these countries how do you compare the support getting from the government and how the two governments are dealing with this crisis? Well, the difference is. Very. Big. I'm still on team. Ireland. So I want to be positive about my own country, but there's not a lot of support coming. Heretofore in Switzerland for example, within two weeks of the crisis occurring. The. Swiss Federal Council which is the Swiss government offered ten percent of the previous year's turnover and So that's quite a considerable amount of money and they offered that as a loan which was repayable over seven years. Zero percent interest. So they're not looking to profit from it and in Ireland we really struggled to get some assistance. And we got ten thousand euros of overdraft line of credit and but repayable at seven and a half percent interest in Switzerland. We got three hundred thousand. So it's quite a big difference there no-interest at all. No interest at all. Of course, Switzerland may have much stronger and deeper reservists than Ireland, but they were able to immediately come up with assistance very little bureaucracy paperwork, and they immediately got to help us in Ireland. The experience was just simply much different to the government really weren't as proactive for as immediate as were here in Switzerland. The roots here what's around her a lot less strict as well There is a two meter rule here, but I haven't seen anybody wearing masks very much, which is kinda shocking for me because I know in Ireland the whole north of is people should be wearing masks. People definitely are observing social distance. One of my friends said to me that the two meter rule has actually brought Swiss people closer together so. That is so insightful to the Swiss society. It's more difficult thing. It's more difficult thing for Irish people or Italian people are Spanish. Two meters distance than it would be for this people or maybe the. Scandinavians. I can see by home people are wondering. Is the Irish pub culture ever going to come back the way it was with social distancing whereas in. Switzerland. Here for me like I'm I'm in the Alps I'm surrounded by fresh air and. Of of lovely space and it's been a wonderful place to be stranded, I don't even want to complain about it because although I I was stranded here for four months. It was the perfect place I felt very safe. I might have felt different if I was in the middle of Zurich or something or Geneva but I felt very safe. I'd in the Alps and it is lovely and peaceful and quiet, and of course, that's what people are coming here for anyway
Tiz The Law Owner Jack Knowlton On Belmont Win
"Will here it is Jack Knowlton visiting with Anthony's to bill on. Red Brand radio. Congratulations on a fantastic win. A lot of people feel like it was seventeen years in the making my friend. Well we finally got our triple. Crown for Sakho Toga for Barclay tag and took us two horses and seventeen years, but from what I understand. It's still kind of fight for Barclay There aren't a lot of trainers at You know is one three legs of the triple crown in recent years. Yeah and you know you guys together. Seventeen years apart, and with New York breads and I know that's the. The mantra over attack a Toga. You guys support that program as well as anyone. Well I was pretty fascinated to learn that it was one hundred thirty eight years since the new. York breaded, won the. Belmont stakes now I know a lot of people are going to say well, then really count you know at you know. It wasn't a mile and a half and Yada, Yada but. In my mind, anybody who watched that race, who questions who would have won that race? It has been a mile and a half. I think the outcome would have been exactly the same as it was at amendment eight. And, Barkley had gone on record is before the race saying you know I would have liked a mile and a half of the source, and he's a horse again. New York Brad and that's what you guys do, you? You've been high on this horse from day one. Well. I watched them train at Saratoga. I mean you're up there and I'd go over at six o'clock in the morning 'cause. That was a time of day that Berkeley landed of track. It was almost darker. She got near the end of the need of what's dark. And not only did he. You know have a good works, and you know work quickly, not crazy fast, but you know good works. But the way he galloped out, I mean they couldn't pull him up. He goes around the second turn. After you know going, pass the finish line and writers just added tremendously difficult time pulling them up junior. Alvarado was riding. Mine is is raised back then, and when I saw that we went into a first range of six and a half furlong maiden mates for New York. Badge I really had a lot of confidence and He's lived up to it so one little bump in a road when he got stuck down inside and the worst part of the race track and Kentucky Jockey Club At. The end of November other than that He really has been flawless. Yeah. That's lobby. Track back in November. He's just been He's been impeccable. The rest of the way the covid nineteen outbreak of course forced post moment of the Kentucky Derby the preakness to. The. Bom obviously the biggest change with the Belmont was not only the two weeks, but the distance. You've mentioned the ASTERISK. We'll get to that in a minute You guys pretty much. And gals I don't want to offend anybody in Saratoga those thirty-five parts of this. Is that accurate? Seven and funny is that I was that six or seventy? You guys and funny side. We had ten ten. Okay, okay only. The same folks lieutenant. And I the only holdovers class. You guys Gus Williams. He passed away several years ago as dead one of our other great partners Dave Man but Ruined I gave remaining to. Stay with it and never in the world expecting that we would get the kind of horse that we've gotten here with the law. And this was an important race for you to win Jack Not that you don't want to win. The Derby again or the preakness again, but the Belmont stakes with your dedication to new. York, Brad's and New York, and let's face it. you know in a game where horses changed hands an awful lot. You and Barclay have been together two decades at this point. This was a very important race for you guys to to tick the box on. It was, and now he's got one more coming up in my hometown Saratoga Springs I've lived thirty five years I know Barkley wants to win it badly as do I and. Really if we can you know, check this box. would include the champagne, which is the the most important two year old race. The Belmont stakes obviously being biggest Belmont. Race and We get the travers at Saratoga. That's quite a triple. And that's pretty remarkable. When you consider you know you started this twenty years ago. As pretty much. Just some friends getting together and buying some horses. We had six guys and Sackett Cyber. I find the eastern end of Lake Ontario I went to high school. We were having our usual. Memorial Day weekend, bearing barbecue, and my wife and I would go up there and visit and I had been in the harness. Business Standard Bread business I guess for about a dozen years and got out. In in ninety four. And somebody up there said well. Why don't we buy a thoroughbred and I said you know figuring I've never gonNA hear anything about it again. I said okay. I said you know, let's each put in five thousand dollars. I knew Tim Kelly at that point who's a trainer and works at is never now. so I got a hold of me and he found this a New York Brad for twenty two thousand dollars. We named him the second sex after the six of us. From Sackett Cyber and came up with the name sack Toga stable after sack I Saratoga and made ourselves Maroon and gray, which are high school college. So. That's how it all started.

"The horse racing season begins in New York today with the Belmont Stakes for the first time the triple crown starts with the Belmont Stakes because of the corona virus and it's a shortened course wanted an eight miles the first time since nineteen twenty five it won't be it's usual gruel and one and a half miles no owners or fans are allowed at the track that usually caps attendance at ninety thousand the New York racing association so Patrick McKenna tells ESPN WABC it will be different it's a different energy but so much more important to be able to to put the show on the last leg of the Triple Crown of the Kentucky Derby September fifth and the Preakness October third Julie Walker in New York

The intentions of her actions leading to the accident have been a topic of debate. In one thousand, nine, hundred six Davidson joint, the women's Center and Political Union, the WSB, you was a militant political organization that campaigned for women's suffrage in the UK. At the time Davis analyst thirty four years old, and worked as a governess, but she soon left her job to work for the movement full-time. She went to jail for the first time in nineteen o nine. After marching to see Prime Minister H H. Asquith with a group led by suffragette Dora Marston. She and several other women ended up being charged with. And assaulting police. Davidson was later imprisoned for throwing stones at people and setting pillar boxes on fire. While in prison she would go on hunger strikes and was forced. In nineteen twelve she jumped from a prison balcony and protests of her treatment and injured her head Vertebrae. When June fourth, nineteen, Thirteen Davison attended the derby she had to W. S. U. Flags, which bore the colors purple white and green. She found a spot at Tattenham. Other people believe that she was trying to cross the tracks in something that she was trying to pull the horse down. At the time Davison was carrying a return train to get from EPSOM and had made plans with her sister for the near future, some people point to this fact as evidence that she did not intend to die by suicide that day. Jeff Passan on MLBPA's Return-To-Play Proposal
"The negotiations between Major League Baseball and the Players Association to start the two thousand twenty season, Continue Jeff Passan reported. Reported last night that the player Ford a counterproposal on Sunday, in which they suggested a one hundred and fourteen game season from June thirtieth to October. Thirty first, which Jeff wrote is expected to be immediately dismissed by the League. The union remained steadfast. The players should receive their full prorated salaries. The Union did suggest possible salary defers than acknowledgment by the players that amid the coronavirus, pandemic and unrest. Flow issues could prove problematic for the owners The players proposal also included the idea of an expand class for two years major league. Baseball's proposal suggests one year postseason that goes from ten teams to fourteen a salary advance of one hundred million dollars split among players during the second spring training, additional commitments to players, wearing microphones in the field and other broadcasts enhancement, and there was an offer to hold events such as an off season, all star game or Homerun Derby to generate additional revenue. This was a hopeful Development Sean doolittle, the nationals. Reliever tweeted out that the Washington major leaguers will provide salary relief to minor leaguers. Who saw their salaries cut last week? Covers baseball for ESPN, and Jeff we just went through the details of your report from last night. I think the most important question this morning is what's next? It's a great question buster because I think what's next is going to be the most important element of this entire thing in that is. What's the reaction of owners after the unions first proposal? And I think you did a great job in your Sunday, notes column of pointing out the fragility of this on account of there, being owners who don't WanNa play in two thousand and twenty. If this proposal angers the the League side owners in particular enough where what is a relatively small block of honors, now suddenly starts to gain a little bit of political traction in trying to convince some of the more moderate owners that this is a lost cause, and it's just not worth playing the two thousand twenty season. Then I think they're actually in trouble, but if if the. door being cracked open for furrows which it was done in this proposal leads to something more substantive and productive. I think something can come together on relative quick order because that's that's how it has to like. If they want to play this year, something needs to get this week and it's on owners right now to come back and really facilitate that after the players offer. Deaf I'm glad that they're talking I. Mean it's a good thing that they're talking because there's been so much time that's passed in the last Three and a half years since the CBA of two thousand sixteen, in which they haven't been talking, but my God they are so far apart. It's incredible to me. The what this is shutdown lake March twelfth thirteenth, and yet it still feels like to use the football comparison. It's like we're at the one yard line. There's about fifty eight seconds to go and there ninety nine yards of field ahead of them when you're talking about the financial issues. Either the safety protocol, and then the challenge of pulling everything together which I'm sure you're hearing the same thing from general managers. That I am like this is not something you can just execute overnight. No in regarding that latter part I assume that that they have known for awhile now. What the expectations are going to be and I I know some general managers that I've talked with said they're. They're trying to get their facilities in order, so you know secondary, club houses and a lot of the things that are in the health and safety protocol. They've at least been trying to start, but let's let's look at the logistics of getting everybody around the country right now. between coded and. And and the civil unrest that's going on travels knock going to be particularly easy and getting people from place to place city city. You don't even know where you're. Joe It half the time when it comes to either get into the city or are you going to be your Spring Training Facility? I mean these these are all open questions right now. but yeah I I would say instead of the one yard line. You've got like both sides in their tunnels right now or in their. I mean that that is how far apart they are, and and the biggest question to me has been.

"This one for the win improbable. We're going to look for another horse. That I think is a real strong winter. Combatant really. It's the number one horse in terms of morning. Line odds for number one horse drawn four to one low. It's not like Your Dad's great great combatant love it? Oh combat and you gotTa love it right. You'll have to hammer down. Maybe don't bet an exotic without having hours in it police. Salt yourself exactly. Why don't you just lump in a lump in combat and into your exotic? They're exactly and I'M GONNA go. I'm going to shift right for my long shot here. Twenty two one sky promise In terms of the mount here Mojica that's Mojica or Oliver. Mohegan came his first name starts with the no drawn a blank here but drawn some pretty crazy odds twenty. Two one strong horse racing. The hundreds and number of times can be skype offset. Yup Go ahead yeah. It's past five races really strong past five races Hard to compare against all the other horses here right. You've got Mister Frasier and the force lot you've got. What is it trophy? Mr Freeze a legend by the way. Go ahead mister. Freeze a legend. There's just tons of legends in this race so it was tough to look for. Just one tacitus right next to it number one but yeah. I'm going to go for sky. Promise twenty two one is. Is The horse that I'm going to chase some some really strong odds on? Yeah just a quick interruption. Before I go with my metric relevant metric for raise twelve the last race oaklawn park race. Seven on Friday. Live that we just listened to We did hit that Trifecta by the way what we did to the eleven men in the can paid eleven eighty two win just looked at it bobbing a nineteen forty on the dollar exact and a two old six thirty and fifty cent tribe that we had a prospect fever in their prospector. Fever cage as nobility the favorite got second to put it all together and that's just a huge hit if you're not betting with the prophets then. I don't know what you're doing wasting your time and we'll we'll probably get one more. I don't know maybe a race eight goes off over. Still doing the podcast. Most likely not but Race twelve. Let's put it let's recap it real quick and we'll move along a race twelve strong race just tons of beautiful horses in this race but our top horse in terms of being able to to place a wind bet improbable at the fourteenth hole. Eight one odds morning line. Combat to combat in the seven hours was second right combatant seven second and then sky promised twenty to one longshot improbable. Get scratched throw in Tacitus. Love that Horse Arrigo raise twelve. We have a relevant metric as always Mr Freeze welcome back. It's been a while freeze. Its been three or four podcast ago. We introduced you to them. Inspired a disgusting Jeffrey Dahmer Rant. From I don't know like I said four or five podcast ago. Guy Likes to cut off heads of human beings and put them in his freezer. Hence MR freeze. Who's mind doesn't just go to Dahmer? When you think of a name like Mister Freeze Joey Talamo on the Mount Anytime. Talamo jumps in the irons. I like a horse. This is six to one morning line. Animal got a good shot. Lobby MR freeze baby as going to say when when I hear you say Mr Freeze. I think of Arnold Schwarzenegger playing Mr Freeze and Batman movie. I don't know one of the worst Batman movies ever. I don't even remember. Maybe I don't do the Dushi she What does that Comic Book Stuff? I don't I just don't get into it at all. It's not my thing I haven't lately but I still have that image of him. Playing MR freeze. Schwarzenegger did something after Predator. Whatever it was I didn't even notice Guvener Guvener. He's keeping busy. Yeah Yeah Hopefully. He goes away for good you all right. We're GONNA move along. Here's the big we're GONNA move along to the big one. This is the one not to take anything away from race. Eleven because the dual Arkansas Derby again what Oakland was whoever map pissing out masterpiece job. Masterful job of managing the virus situation awesome because now we have race eleven. Which was the first Arkansas Derby? What Division One Division? Two was raised thirteen. And it's even stronger field outside of Charlotte. I think would probably be the favourite neither of these. But he's got there's one horse it I would put neck and neck with Charlatan and he's in this race thirteen. We're going to go ahead formula at. I'm pretty sure I'm going to guess that you have on top because I can't imagine that you have anybody else. Yes I got two horses on top. I'll go in order of which I think that they are actually going to finish. But they are my top two horses in this race so the number one also the number one in terms of the morning line odds doll. But I I if I'm looking at the formulas they are split between this horse and the next Horse Right. So it's so.

"Finished. Second finished first so you got imagine that this horse is going to be able to to mix it up here in the tenth race. Who's on the Mount? You'll Rosario big surprise their profits jumping on a USO. Rosario mounted horse clearly. This is a big Rosario opportunity for us. If he has a big day. Tomorrow you can count on US having a big day for sure for sure you want to know where you can get some value We're going eight to one so it's a little bit lower than what I would normally pick here but Spanish kingdom. I do like at eight to one. Spanish kingdom in terms of Adnan medium distance rating. It finishes in the Third Third Slot here in the race the first two. Ginobili and rushy. So it's in good company. Marg are on the Mount Martine Garcia and the mount. Strong Horse surprised. It's only getting eight to one odds here. It's last race was a ninety seven so it had a really strong last race especially in terms of ranking according to the The reading on this race so I think Spanish kingdom eight to one hoping that one doesn't get up. I have a feeling it will but as a right now I'm saying that's our value play right yet that that raises. That's a that's a good one and I think there's there's big big opportunity for who comes off that one I couldn't I couldn't narrow it down for the metric I got a couple of mention Number two Ginobili Luckily for the horrors that doesn't have the same male pattern baldness the man who had the spurs there for those last few years really tough. Look now the embarrassing Probably should have went with a buzz cut but he hung on. He tried to do that. Trump comb over thing not a good look for them already. One number seven candy just a quick shout out to my boy. Saratoga Pat Took him in the Derby draft contest. That I'm hosting a late late. Forty something picked good call and et number thirteen. I wanted to mention real quick. Slough Tang clan Liu Tang clan of that one. If don't know me that's my guys. Rake wine the chef here. He's listening tonight. So shout the Ray. Guan real quick one of the goats one of the best ever That's all that's really all I got for for race ten And now we're GONNA move to race eleven. Which is the Arkansas Derby? I guess this is considered division. One right yeah old up hold up Division Division. A OLD UP. I gotTA interruption race. Seven live on Friday afternoon late night after an now. It's five thirty numbers we got here and Ray Seven. What do we do? We have time for a break. Three five and eleven. We have the Ofek Bach supercharge cage as nobility quickest amazing vision and destiny. Way that bomb.

"How's that been working out for me? Just sei-yung sei-yung finalist like twenty years in a row. It feels like but this isn't a baseball podcast about horse racing and We're GONNA move to. We have way too much to cover race number six oaklawn Saturday. You guys can hear it in the background. I've been route around in my fridge for a fresh beer. So that's part of the sound effects here. You're going to get some live broadcast of our failure in race six or whatever that was on Friday. You'RE GONNA get re seven even raising. Yeah so very six tomorrow the fourteen horse here divine armor. Hopefully the fourteen horse can run. Ironically it's it's the favourite or at least at sharing its favourite with the four horse. I'm I'm really digging. This is our number one to To win the race and yeah I'm going to the fours well in terms of If I'm going to pick another horse. That has a good chance to win. I'm holding onto some shock here for sure. Friars Roast Fresh Rhode Rhode good-looking. That's a good tone in that beer. What does that thing This this is untitled art with more brewing Jesus. Snobbery IT'S JUICY. I Ta if you've ever walked into a grocery store and they got that little corner for the beer. Snobs a lot of them do nowadays the the craft beer snobs and I'll dabble in that. I like some of it. This is the one that has like the random paint like thirty different colors of paint. Brush strokes over looking like fake art and that thing is I'll tell you what though it's too hazy. Ip a nice piece looks good hops over the CAN. It's nice looking tone in the beer anyway. Where we at? It's nice. It's nice. Riders rode the four. Yes a fourteen and four They're both the morning line favorites as of right now. I definitely favor the fourteen more than I do. The actor Rosarito and in Pratt man. Yeah two of my guys so I get it. You could lean on those guys right those guys. That is a gamble. You're looking at Two of the best in the business absolutely you just look at the wind percentages and the wind play show percentages. And you know that you can follow them and you'll get yourself in the money pretty quickly now. A long shot six horse what country. What was that thing? What was that thing? Yok Perfect strangers. Wow I just pulled. That was that the name of the show. I think that's Yakup schmear or same thing. Belsky wasn't the same guy rushing guy and then whatever. The other thing was doesn't matter but yeah what country Eastern European bloc country right. Yeah complete racism without being racist. Yeah because national whatever terrible terrible taste. They wouldn't get away with it nowadays but you know growing up so schmeer. Andre is in the six whole going up at ten and one previous. Two races are in the eighties. This is a one hundred and three hundred race but the competition that you look at across the board. I don't see it as being extremely strong. I think there's a lot of opportunity here if you're not friars road or divine armor so what a country I think. That's a horse that sneaks in plus what naming a podcast in the last twenty. Five years is named Yakov smirnoff in their thing. Nobody nobody. I only know that because I was watching a comedy show from one hundred years ago with Sam Kennison and that and the guy was like one of the openers parable by the way not at all not for neo we got relevant was a relevant metric. I have a number eleven absolute unit. We're GONNA WE'RE GONNA Hearken Back Clear Lamma Baseball Sloppy speaking of pictures from the last thing. Kershaw we're going to go back to pictures again. The Big Unit Absolute Unit reminds me the big unit Randy Johnson. The worst human being. That's ever lived. Most pilots shit mullet hanging off his neck looking ridiculous. Always looked like you needed a shower. Just a terrible chew in his bottom lip. Terrible person lethal left. You guys late. Seven feet. Tall weighed forty. Pounds is still could throw the ball one hundred ten miles an hour. Whatever you need but my thing with him is innocent. People are dying of the co- virus. Yeah all over. The world in a Johnson is still living. And that's that just seems unfair to me seriously. Think about it. Think about it big unit as a terrible person such as life a gambling fourteen races to cover. We're not gonNA spend a whole lot of time on the big unit but Race Seven. We're going to spend some time on. What do we like their race? Seven one more thing about big unit. There's also that video of him destroying that bird. Oh yeah that's that's a legend. The spring training. Fastball with Burgess. Hey POPs POPs off a ninety nine mile an hour heater in a seagull Segal Seagull. Times it off just on of that. Seagull just makes a bad move at the wrong time and explodes explode explodes from the Randy Johnson fastball which just adds to the to the character of that loser piece of Shit what was he on the Mariners's Oh career to that. Helped him by the way ballpark history. That game you went to the Yankees for a little while toilet glory years were the mariners. Right yeah planning the biggest park in American history and that guy was dominant. But I just want to throw out that. He was in the biggest park in America just to try to take something away from him because he was such a Dick but Started with the Expos. There you go raise those damn Canadian. Some movies seven not a huge fan array seven. Let me tell you why. These Violence Sixteenth. Go ahead mile yet. My own sixteenth. The top two horses here are drawing horrible. Odds on your one dollar bet or two dollar bad at one dollars. You're getting a dollar forty back if you bet on. Gammon the eight horse which is one of my top two as well as Smarty Garcia on the Mount Speech speech did I get that right. Ask half lawyers good. It's called speech at ten horse. And it's drawing two to one odds right now. These two are the absolute favorites. If you look at their records you look at what they've done. Gaming only really one race to speak of speech has three but was touched one hundred rating and two of those so by far those of your favorites right just to rightly so rightly so but as a gambler. You'RE GONNA WANNA ask the question. How do I get paid on this race? How do I actually get an edge here? Good so the horse. I'm picking that I think gives you. That edge is roadrunners honor the Five horse-drawn twenty two one on. Its last race not spectacular. But it's got a couple of pretty good races previous to that. It's been in some pretty fast paced races. I the only one that really compares to Gammon and speech Again it plays out well with Pinkie Pie. I've got a couple of formulas that are rated as a value. Play twenty two one. So that's that's that's a good indicator hidden aboard. I mean let's let's be real things not gonNA win. Maybe it will. Maybe it has. Its Day does win but in terms of being what's the morning line on them. Twenty twenty yeah. Something's got to squeak in here right. There's there's a couple of horses with extremely low penny pain odds here. Well there's such a big draw out of the top two that somebody's salary and then the top two could burn each other up and yeah somebody can snap in there. I don't I don't hate this. I don't think this option. Yeah exactly I. In six races finished third twice finished I once so the sources has finished in the money in half of its races. So I mean there's a there's a good chance at squeaks in here. So that's the one I'm going to go with all right Relevant metric for ray seven The six Horse Seahawk Lisa. And we'RE GONNA WE'RE GONNA jump right back into sports but this time I'm GonNa go with the football reference And I'm actually proud of the country in the world for this matter I think everybody's finally recognizing that Russell Wilson speaking of the seahawks Russell Wilson has proven to be just a solid gay manager. Best as a quarterback. Right 'cause remember rewind what five seven years ago whenever he's a rookie. Second Year Third Year player. Got that Super Bowl. Did a great job as nothing. Really personal on him. No disrespect goodguys. Seems like a decent enough guy all yours make up and looks annoying as shit on his and he can't stay off social media for one minute but he's a total bro. Good good player but people were putting him on the cross with Jesus for a while and I Dunno it's good to see you know. After a few years just being average people have have backed off of that thing and I think now You know now with Mahomes you see what greatness really looks like an and Brady for the last hundred years and I don't. I didn't like Russell Wilson getting compared to some of those guys and it was sick. So it's good to see that he is now nail down with Detroit guy like a Mattie Stafford type where you're you're probably a little better than average but not great is our Russell Russell's not great. He's getting paid like he's great. Yeah because he got that super once you get a ring dude in the NFL or most sports for that matter if you bring your order back. Yeah you're you're on. What do you call it? You can't you'll never exactly thank you you're made made and I'll I'll tell you a quick story. One Minute Story We got time for the Super Bowl. Detroit what year was it. I'm just going to throw out there. Two thousand five. I have no idea. Jerome Bettis Super Bowl. The Rothlisberger some somewhere in there okay. You know why ran into there literally stood next to the Bar Adam and I stood there and I was like Holy Shit there. He is Mark Rippin of the redskins. Remember this Guy. Been Super Bowl winners. Are Bowl winner. Mark Rippin all right. That guy had like two years where he was relevant. Yeah granted it was a big two years in one year was legendary your they won but that dude is forever alleged because of one year. Whatever and that's Russell Wilson. The big scheme of things will turn out to be Mark Rippin twenty years from now he's GonNa be walking around the super bowl at sixty five years old and there'll be a few people know who he is next race eight. Let's move race. Four talking about Margaret in Russell Wilson. Jesus Christ before we get to race eight though but let's let's let's stay on the NFL just a Tad. Tom Brady at the age of eighty in Rob Gronkowski with his forty seven concussions. How's that going to work in Tampa Bay? You take the over or under on their win number What's I what they finished last year? The bucks were Gosh. You're asking me to Google. Probably I'M GONNA guess five or six winds maybe average below average finished a little bit higher but who is a genus Winston Justice James with the shameless teens? Not The team's not that terrible even without Brady Gronk. They had seven wins last year. No sorry what the hell does this mean. One SEC ONE SEC. It's not that's not that difficult of a number for you. To pull seven wins seventy nine last year and that was famous. Who's terrible actually a lot of talent? But he turns the ball over more than he has not sure he isn't colorblind. Let's just put it that way. They do have all world receivers in that dump Mike Evans. Right Brady can still play. I don't know if he can play at that. Level for Sixteen Games. Gronk to me is just a Jersey shore drinker now. I'm not sure what to think rock. They they set his touchdowns this year at five and a half and I'd go over a man's betting on that.

And it's a big one night just because it's twenty one but because this the weekend everybody's waiting for that first weekend in. May only it's not the derby expect it to be right? We expected this to be the Kentucky Derby. We're expecting this to be a big podcast. And it's still a big podcast. Thank you to the people at Oaklawn for putting together an enormous program for the Arkansas Derby this weekend saving the weekend getting some amazing horses to run a couple races for us and these are the racists. We're going to talk about. So yeah I'm I'm the formula and I'm joined by empire maker. How's it going on your end going? Good Man I'm I'm Just wanted to give a shout out to the cove virus for just destroying the first half of the year for everybody. Thanks thanks buddy. Besides all that. We're actually getting back to work next week Things are starting to normalize slowly hopefully because little bit afraid of some resets on death tolls going back but other than that We're GONNA stay on a positive note and talk about some horse racing I wanted to mention to just a massive week at will rogers. We played three slates there. This week and slade all of them. I think we had fifty percent wire greater on all three of them. Yeah and we've we've kind of figured out a strategy on will rogers. It's been paying out and I think a lot of people been following us on that too. Yeah I've gotten a ton of good feedback and you know people people asking for other picks from different tracks based on the success. We've had their gets. It's been a great week. Probably the best week of twenty twenty to be honest with you. Yesterday we played oaklawn not not terrible but not good We were negative but again it wasn't something's didn't yeah it. Was You know we had some? We had some spots where we looked pretty good in some spots that we missed so by the way were disorder recording us on Friday afternoon to four thirty PM m eastern time right now so While we're broadcasting this thing well we're recording. You're gonNA hear probably spouts from me because we're playing along on the Friday slate today. I think we're going to raise six is coming up next in about ten or fifteen minutes so if you hear some random cursing and screaming. I may even put the audio of the race on to To live give feedback on how we're doing so anyway Let's jump into Oakland for Saturday because there's fourteen races in their full fields and it's going to be an awesome day tomorrow. What did we got going on here? We are looking forward to oaklawn tomorrow. We are going through one through fourteen. But WE'RE GONNA skip to. We didn't have enough data on that race to make a competent pick and for these picks in the past. I've given you what were are one. Two three in terms of an exact try box or an exact a three horsebox We're changing it up a little bit. We're giving you our top two favorites to win and then we're also going to throw in what we consider to be a long shot so I think at the most or at the least are long. Shot to sorry are long shot to finish in the money. I think at the least. We've got maybe an eight to one horse squeezed in there but most of these are Morning Line odds of ten or more so basically a value played up to bounce into your exotic exact to try to pick three and four hours to cover the coverage basically. Yeah exactly something that we think could show could place and provide a pretty good value and and you know in these huge races. This is what we've noticed. I'm sure other people notices while there's always a that squeaks into the money when you've got twelve horses run in like that that you know it wasn't in your top three may not have been in your top four wasn't in your top five so we're trying to find any of those value. Plays out there that we think could be the horse that as a ten to one morning line. Odds maybe even a twenty to one squeaks into that that money spot and Gives you a nice little fat payouts? Are we playing this ten to one or greater or is there? Is there any Racist were all note when it's when it's not tend to wonder greater. I'll play out the odds for you. You can hear you can tell how well prepared in precise we've been on the planning here. We have obviously been talking to each other about this right yet right. Yep and we're just trying to pull off this podcast we know everybody's been anxious for picks on the Arkansas Derby Dual Arkansas derbys which is obviously the highlight tomorrow and and still pay attention to make the best picks. We can Day To day yesterday today at Oakland and and Sunday for that matter so this is probably the the biggest week. We've had racing and twenty twenty cents March seventh when we had three majors. Yeah going at it before the before the frigging Kobe. Yeah we thought that was setting up the the Derby perhaps in setting up the for the Derby but all. That's changed but this is this. Is this the dual? Arkansas derbys is about as cool as we could hope for right now. So yeah it's awesome and the fact that the fact that they split up Dolon Charlotte and into two different races. Yeah instead of putting them head to head it. Only builds up the drama even more for the Derby and maybe I'm an idiot for not knowing that process that they went through to split those but I'm glad I'm glad they're split up because I think it allows for the drama to unfold all year better this way although I think that division to believe Nidal's division is is a much tougher division. I would say so I. I agree with that wholeheartedly. There's there's some horses that I did not put in my top three. That shocked even me. So yeah and without further ado race one. We got a six Furlong Race. Six six and a half for a long time member which it is. Let's start going are are. It's a six okay so our number one horse here timely tradition. You'll Rosario on that horse. Been extremely strong All year been extremely strong at Oaklawn all year. And that's the The morning line odds top horse as well. We've got timely tradition in there. I'm digging deep for my number two horse. My second horse as a really good chance to win is I think it's the eleven horse jackets or Jacquat died yesterday. Pronounce it Jay. Acc I'll say Zhukov. Because it sounds awesome more sophisticated ways. Let's go with it absolutely so it's it's second to last race puts it probably one of the top horses in this race Its last race was a bit of a letdown in in terms of matching up with a rating on this race. But if you remove that and you start to look down it's it's done really well Flavian Pratt on top of the horse. Not Hurting you there now. Fly does a beast man. Yeah for sure at eight to one. That's an extremely good value. And I'm not even at my value play yet when I get to my value plates the number eight Lexington Grace from Ireland. Twenty two one morning line odds it ran to ninety S in its past couple of races really strong horse had a little bit of a dip down in its third and fourth previous races. But even before that it's been running really strong And also it's Yeah. It's A it's a Horse. That's finished in the money several times. A lot of thirds a couple seconds. So I see no problem at twenty one in place in some sort of wager on Lexington gray so I got one eleven and eight. It's my two top favorites to win. And then a nice long shot in there as well. And that segues into the eight horse for the relevant metric for race one Lexington Grace Irish horse just another just another reminder how thanks again. Cova virus for F and up Saint Patrick's Day along the way Speaking to Irish Horse Saint Patrick's Day destroyed. My birthday destroyed. My keeneland party with my friends Kentucky Derby the triple crown and so much more just one more f you to it before we move onto to race to which we're actually GONNA skip Race to again not enough data to to put together a realistic odds. The you know any any crunching the numbers that we could feel good about giving. Yeah so we're going to skip to therese three Go ahead formula what we have for three right virus. Don't care virus. Don't care knowing at seven to two odds we've got the two-horse Captain Don. This is a another six furlong.

"So again a big car this weekend in Oakland Park obviously not the Kentucky Derby unfortunately. I think we would have preferred to have to be running in the first Saturday in. May Have have all the the fun with the Kentucky Derby Street that we we normally come to expect around this time of the year. Unfortunately we're not going to get that But looking ahead to what? We've got coming forward again. Obviously next week I mentioned at the top of the show hall of fame will come out on Wednesday. We will wait and do the show as tempted as we will. Beat to do the show. Probably even on Sunday. 'cause I assume it's GONNA be a really entertaining daybreak and we will hold off on that until the hall of fame. We will get a reaction to the famous wolves. Everything that happened this weekend with racing like I mentioned. We're going to do individual previews for the two divisions of the Arkansas Derby and the fantasy and oaklawn handicaps respectively. Those will be on Youtube over the course of today being Tuesday and tomorrow Wednesday. So keep your eye out for those as well. Keep your eye out for the remainder of the hall of fame videos. I tried to space them out. Unfortunately Kinda ran out of time. But that's just GonNa there's GonNa keep your eye on youtube. I'm going to be pumping out content on Youtube over the course of the next week so that we hit the deadline of getting all the hall of fame stuff out before the actual inductions are announced. So keep your eye out on youtube for that as well and then after the Arkansas Derby. We will figure out we're going to do we might Bring back some some of the random discussions that we did. We had the top of the twentieth century. So there's that that we will do following the Arkansas Derby who knows what else we're gonNA hear Over the course of the next couple of days so that it very fluid on here but that is what is at least coming up next week. And that's what's over on Youtube so you can check all that out again as I mentioned at the top of the show also. We had J. proven on the show last week so you always great whenever we can get him on the show so go check that out as well so we'll see you next week Good luck this weekend. There's a lot of big races this week a lot. Of course they're gonNA come out of this weekend and there will definitely be some superstars and could could maybe see some upsets this weekend. So again we'll see you next week and good luck..

"Podcast. Today we talked with Scott Shapiro about betting Saturday's Florida Derby. Now here's your host Ed Derosa Florida. Derby Week is here. Certainly has a different vibe to it but the race held up extremely well. Given all the circumstances we got a purse cut at the great and points remain the same as a prep for the Kentucky Derby though a very different look and Holiday Beach Florida this weekend. This is more the destination than the path. I think and we'll be talking with my guests this week. From twin spires bed America and my colleague on the Churchill Downs simulcast show Scotch Shapiro. Scott you've been doing a lot of racing handicap and lately. I'm sure you're ready for this. Yeah really excited at about the card. Even though I have a different feel than normal gotten through the back half of the card and spent of course a lot of time on the grade one seven hundred fifty thousand dollar Florida Derby so ready to dive in fourteen fourteen th of fourteen races and lacks last six makeup that mandatory payout pick six which assuming it does not get hit on. Friday. Have to think we're probably looking at eight figure pool. Ten Twelve fifteen million. Who knows what kind of money is out there in circulation This would I believe be the second round of the NCAA tournament so Obviously sad not to have to watch and wager on America but Probably wouldn't be talking to you right now if that were going on so thankful for the opportunity for your insight into this race. Yeah I appreciate it now yet. Pretty good actually. I would just take it a snare at Tomorrow's Card. Pretty Nice field sizes pretty high quality racing. Not sure if that was the plan. All along because Wednesday and Thursday were not very high quality As both of US know not even in terms of our success but just not great cards but hopefully it carries over and we get a Fun To play into and Yeah Bitter Suites Fun. Be fulltime horse racing but man. We're missing out on some good sports right now. Myo Hopefully they'll be back to the derby will be back on the postponed schedule and Did want to touch on that before we get into the meat of this Twelve force at least twelve horses and the Gate Field Gulfstream This is typically the final prep for a lot of horses into the Derby. Maybe if you needed points you could squeeze in a race like the Arkansas Derby if absolutely needed to the Lexington at keeneland but for the most part this is the last stop for courses like Tis Delara. Take Indian This year that's not quite the case would have to think any of these would get another race in before the Derby assuming that Goes is scheduled currently on September. Fifth Are you changing your approach to handicapping this race? It's still derby prep from a points perspective But all the sudden this became sort of a lot more important in terms of earning some purses without another big race. Five weeks down the road you know at. I don't think I am and Oftentimes I think of the Florida Derby because I think of gold stream this such a unique. See kind of if you will. We've seen a lot of horses Of course not always dreaming maximum security but in past years we see a lot of what stays at Gulfstream. What happened to go? Stream stays at Gulfstream and I think a lot of these sources are horses for the core so never really thought of it in terms of that. Of course it's always be used as a hopeful stepping-stone towards the Kentucky Derby but even particularly when I look at this field Maybe you can make the argument to the sixty five favoritism law would be looking at it from a little bit of a different perspective but otherwise seemed like these connections. These are good. These are horses that I certainly want to win this race But did you do make a good point. And maybe it'll be different line of thinking but Didn't really think of until you brought it up to be totally honest. Yeah now see. Some people weighing heavily on trainers who can point toward a race and others. You know. Maybe this is the race and it's it's a blurred line anyway because it's not like you don't want to win a great one. Let's say a million dollar race in the case the Derby Warren five weeks But yeah it was just starting to kind of popped into my head 'cause DISTURBING TRAILS. GonNa look a lot different. Come summertime thought for this race in particular Because there is the obvious favorite and then in my mind behind him to choices In that maybe a couple of others behind them so rather than go top to bottom. I did think we just start with the the obvious. Favourite go from there and that is tis. The laws you mention His performance in the Holy Bull Wild me Not Typically a big visual guy but I thought that was really impressive coming off the loss in the Jockey Club. Churchill and his three year old debut at thirteen to ten. He did it without my backing. Thought he had the look within over bat voice in that race certainly got the job done and he laid off. While it's a Indian came back in one actually think oh probably be outdone in here not even six to five but with twelve horses if you love him. Maybe you get the price you want. But I'M GONNA try to beat him at a small it a short price even given what we saw the Holy Bull. Yeah you He definitely sold me a little more. I think I was a little more on his bandwagon but not nearly as much as others After the two year old campaign especially after the Kentucky Jockey Club. But it's definitely so me more I after the Holy Bull. But I kind of Grouping these three horses together and I have a little bit of a hard time understanding the difference if one's GonNa be even money and then pay Indian and an independent targeted be. What four to one. I don't I don't see the differential and maybe in terms of just pure talented. The law is is significantly. Better That that's debatable. First off but I'm a little bit of worried about a couple of things firstly. I'm not so sure. He's completely mentally figured it out. It seems like either Manny Franko. Hasn't totally figured him out yet. Or this is just trouble prone because he seems to have gotten caught in tough spots just about every race so far and I kind of thought maybe he would be mentally maturing. Perhaps he is. I'm not you know the best in the world watching workouts but he did look a little quirky when I watched his workout rain into that on TV And still saw little quirkiness with the way he moves and whatnot. So drawing seven whole is is normally that might be A great a great spot for many horses kind of middle of the field. But the way draws in this field he draws inside of a lot of forces that are have tactical or speed horses that Tae obviously the far outside but if you look at my first Grammy Independence Hall Candy Tycoon. Sassy but smart. You could argue. They're all quicker if they want to be out of the gate. Tis The law or equally. Quick some kind of wondering what kind of trip it's GONNA lead to for. Tis The law who I would not like to see get caught between horses with delays acted so with a perfect trip. I think he's the one that beat. I'm not going to actively fade them. It sounds like like you. I'd never met him the win. But in terms of the way I'm mostly GonNa play the card which is horizontally. I'm probably GONNA COP out here and use all three Just the way it shapes up a couple other horses. I'm GONNA single on a couple of places where I'm against the favourite so but I won't be rooting for most likely either. Yeah that's a good point about the type of trips. He's had a really not a strong as path when you had that target with that day in in the The Holy Bull. And you know we saw what what he's capable of that kind race but then in the Kentucky Jockey Club at three to five You know varying degrees of how much that trouble cost him in terms of maybe being able to get the win But nevertheless just never looked comfortable down inside and you know from that Middle Post It seems like what's the lesser of two evils Z. Ganda being wide to stay out of trouble or is he going to get that insight trip like he got in the Kentucky Jockey Club where we're clearly just You know Kinda battled with his his rider before getting room. So yeah. There's there's just enough questions to me that it. Let's say even money in this size field with some real talent in here. I just don't think he went half the time. I'm with you on that I think is going to be an underlay and if I were to leave any of the three horses off my tickets because of budget or just because of I think maybe it looks to chalky when I really boiled. You know finalized them. He would be the one because of that and one last thing. John Doyle had I had my guest today on the. Who Do you like podcast? We went over the sequence. He made a good point about Gulfstream. Being extra tough with kickback. In this probably not liking kickback to buy Ge- and he might get some from that spot so the trip is probably most concerning to me. Not The talent Well Speaking a trip part of that of course is based and One of the To Me Obvious. Second Tier Choices in terms of how the wagering will shake out is at Indian who was second To his law in the Holy Bull and then just lit the Fountain of Youth From an outside post so he's sort of been there done that Just went on with it under floor. Roof Seems like maybe a lot more company upfront this time and You know the outside post even though he's done it. Different dynamic stretching out to amoun-. An eighth year and You know four to one isn't terrible especially if you're looking at even money on Tis the law But to me another one that I think she's going to take too much money relative to his chance with all the extra speed signed on. Yeah I could see it on either way and I think like you said the price would be key. If you're thinking about a win wager but I definitely think he's the fastest early earn in here. You have a couple more cheap type speed horses. You Got Chivalry drawn down the inside and I guess go through the field so not to mention them all but I think that a similar a similar aggressive approach in this horse has been a great gate horse and all three starts going Dating back to December twentieth dirt starts. I don't see why he doesn't make the lead again. And Yeah I mean I remember. We were pretty. You know anyone handicapping. The Fountain of Youth was was little bit concern at the very least with that far outside. Draw time That ended pretty quickly when he crossed over and just lay down wall. I see that very much in the realm of possibility. I don't think he's necessarily at a a regression candidate by any stretch. He's kind of been running the same race as the last three races. If you look at his Brisbane that speed ratings one. Oh three one zero four one zero three so while visually looked like he was you know ran the race of his life in the Fountain of Youth. He really he really didn't he took you know he's been Nice. Just staying in good solid form and I think he's got pretty much as good a shot as anybody. Yeah really consistent. You mentioned the final time. Speed Rating And then the the pace lightings are similar is always been on the front end Which sometimes with horses. Maybe they run off for the Jockey. Tries to rate them on the front end in. You know you kind of get a variance of pace ratings. We saw that with no parole. Who suckered me into into the rebel? But this one's just steady hundred eight hundred ninety nine on the dot his last three late pace rating so definitely speaks well to me of a of a good horse which we already know But.

"I need the right decision at the end of the day is I mean obviously could've moved to June but we honestly don't know what would what what it all means at this point so hopefully hopefully horses stay healthy people stay healthy cleaner be that. That's really the point that I'll echo that as well that you know alternately. I don't love that had happened. But it's the right decision to to give the the best of pro prospects of being of Kentucky Derby because. I'm sure that that is something that no one wants to have is a Kentucky Derby a year without a Kentucky Derby the longest running continuous sporting event in the United States. That that's not something that I think anyone would like to see lost. I do also want to mention. I forgot to mention this There will be no cylinder in there will be no April. Keeneland needs so. That's very disappointing. I Know Eric specifically disappointed from that. He was going to go out to Keeneland for for us and do do some stuff. There's unfortunately that's not gonNA happen But there but as I mentioned their tracks are still going on the fairgrounds to said they're going to finish out their meat Gulfstream GOLF SHIRT GOING TO RACY STILL MARYLAND. Nairas keeping going so while there are some tracks that are not having having racing anymore The vast majority of them are still going to keep going on Oakland did say they might move the Arkansas Derby. But they're still they're still going to continue so there's a lot of tracks it will still keep on on so that that's obviously good news Speaking of Fairgrounds ARE. There are some notable six. We gotta get to but first. Let's look back at the stuff that happened. The past weekend in one specific thing that I know Eric and I were really really excited about was the rebel stakes weekend featuring the comebacker the of what might end up being Bob Baffert best three-year-old. I know you've got a loaded barn right now but that run by. Nidal in the rebel stakes was there. Were not enough words. That could could describe how very how awesome performance out was set. I don't like to throw the awesome word around very much but that was that was something else. Adult had to deal with tall very fast paced. He got pressed early and he had every excuse. He had every reason not to win that race and he held on to win that race and he may. He made me believe that I believe in him. Because I was not a person that was very hot interested. I was very hot. Wasn't very high doll. But after that Nidal looks like a sure thing Derby contender going into that with the Kentucky Derby being in September Nidal. That was a very nice performance from new doll that we get less began. There was extremely..

"All right here we go. We're back episode number fifty two amid a ton of chaos going on in the racing industry. I don't think I e to to mention all the stuff that's going on going on in the world obviously with the cove nineteen outbreaks and all that We knew it was going to get to horse racing at some point and unfortunately I did take away the Kentucky Derby. If you've heard the Kentucky Derby has been postponed from May the first Saturday in. May All the way to September. The first time in seventy five years. I think it is seventy five or seventy six years That the Kentucky Derby will not be held on the first Saturday in May so obviously. That's unique circumstances. I you know I was talking to Erik a little bit before this in you know regardless of what we think of the decision. It's a moot point. I think both of us would agree and I'm sure there's a lot of other people who will echo this sentiment. It seems like that the reason the Kentucky Derby was pushed back to September was to allow the most opportunity to have spectators in this. And I understand that the desire of Churchill to be able to have spectators at the Kentucky Derby but I felt like that me and several other people And I'm sure Eric and I are not the only other an the other people that have weighed in with this with me on. This privately are not the only people who share that sentiment of you know that this is going to have a bit of a detriment on not just not not just the Kentucky Derby itself but with you know it's going to screw up a lot of things with the horsemen and they're racing schedule. It's also going to mess up other tracks. 'cause attracts are going to have to plan their races around. Having the Kentucky Derby tracks thought they could have races at some point are now going to have to figure out a whether there'll be a have those and if they do have them when they'll be pushed at one specific example I can think of is the Pennsylvania Derby which falls on either the third of the fourth weekend of September. I believe it it. It's Around the third week week of September so but a race like that grade one race for three year olds at is. Was you previously the only grade one race for three year olds in the month of September? Now the Kentucky Derby and subsequently the preakness have been moves to September. So parks is attractive. Can Ask himself whether or not they WANNA have that race and if so when they're going to have it and that's obviously one specific example but There's multiple multiple other tracks that are going to have to plan their racing seasons now around the prospect of not having horses that they could have assumed they would have gotten after the Kentucky Derby..

"This is the Tabet. Horseracing horseracing podcast. Today we talk with grandma. Grunge about Saturday's Louisiana Derby. Now here's your host. Ted Derosa show goes on in horse racing not in front of many live people though some will be in the stands when the Louisiana Derby is conducted on Saturday at fairgrounds and one of those lucky enough to be in attendance. I at the thrill of being one of few. The the rebel grant Legrand's from fairgrounds will have a similar thrill is he and his peers. Gets a witness the Louisiana Derby two hundred points on the road to the Kentucky Derby and that road is extended now until September fifth regardless. This is a win. I'm sure many of the trainers and horseman wanting to grab it's the million dollar twin spires Louisiana Derby grant welcome to the horse racing. Podcast thanks. I appreciate Appreciate you having me and like you said. I'm going to be one of the lucky ones in this unfortunate time and Not only racing but in any sporting events I'M GONNA be one of the lucky ones that get to see the first one hundred point. Prep race I'm looking forward to it. Louisiana Derby is always The highlight of my year. And it's It's not only fund race to watch and see how these horses perform the rest of the year. But it's also Seems to always turn out to be a really good race. Bit No question about it with Sixteen entered fourteen will go assuming only to scratch is certainly a good bending events this year as well plus the added is the race will be NBC. Sports So excited to get that pickup Trying to make lemonade out of Lemons. Obviously don't love the circumstances but The they are what they are. And is someone I'M NOT GONNA lie grant You Know Surreal Eerie. All those adjectives being at a race track with big time racing fans. But certainly something. I'm GonNa be telling my grandkids about what next what an experience and you've had a few days a racing without fans but I'd imagine what they're actually being big steak Saturday. It's GonNa feel more different. Yeah I was That that thought I tried to block that sought out for as long as I could but today kind of doing TV Solo all day today on track. It really It eerie feeling like you said starts to creep in just because you know usually you come into one of those big big weeks and you experience it at Oaklawn but you come into these. Highlights you know the marquee events of the meat and Even though the week of there's the buzz and you know and people are looking forward to it for some reason or another. You have a bigger on track Wednesday crowd. And you know there's there's some lead up to it but today which just me and Three other people in the paddock and I was sitting there doing the pre ratio and almost talking to myself in a sense Other than you know obviously it goes out to simulcast but like you said it's a it's a weird feeling It's certainly strange to be at a track like the fairgrounds. Which usually you know has not only great racing but very fun and Interactive crowd and. It's a little different to be sitting out there In dead silence almost just hearing the horses walked behind you in the paddock. But it is what it is and we're GONNA make lemons out eliminate is that how it goes I think it's lemonade out of Lemons. Although actually lemons lemonade would be more impressive than you think about it. That's why I said it 'cause I was spending you're taking level people. One another SORTA weird wrinkle to this sort of byproduct is You know we're we're prepping for race now. For many of these horses country house actually raised again in the Arkansas Derby last year before Winning the Kentucky Derby but For a lot of these horses this would have been the final star for for the Kentucky Derby Argo imagined. That's in play now With the race being moved to September fifth and Churchill is hinted that they will add some points races. Not sure how many how much they'll be worth it Sarah But you know a a little luster lost from you know a last chance to see these horses before the Derby standpoint And I know as part of your job. In addition to handicapping talking races in the paddock. Do a lot of barn work. A lot of great videos up on twitter and social media would of the the horsemen been saying about this whole situation terms of preparing their horses and thinking about a derby. Now that's six months away. Yeah it's definitely a It's definitely a mixed bag for someone like Brad Cox for example He's you know. Obviously he had Division One winner of the risen star Mister monoploy Who won that race and then came out of the first division of the risen so it with a little bit of an ankle issue so originally right after the risen star when they issue came up. Brad Cox had continued to say that obviously the horses off of the betrayal. But now obviously as you mentioned with the Derby being pushed back a horse like Mr Modern y you know if it is indeed just a minor ankle injury now all of a sudden has has a couple of months to recover and get back into training. And so it's an interesting dynamic. Would you know you have people like that? You have trainers Brad Cox with Mr Manuel. And then you also have you know other guys that Obviously you're aren't thrilled about having the Derby pushed back but at this point it's just opinion because we've I've never seen this before and a lot of these trainers have never seen Something like this before. So everyone kind of has their own opinion whether or not most of it is positive or negative. I'm not sure yet. It seems to be a little bit of mixed emotions Between all of the trainers but for me. I think that you know it is what it is and Business as usual we'll I'd imagine a lot of the sentiment will be distilled in August You know Mr minimally comes back. Game Busters Brattle love it But like His law is awesome through July. And then you know God forbid something doesn't go hundred percent that camp Would definitely a wish for a major be? But you know we're all dealt the same hand so at least it's fair in that regard and finally get to the main event here as we both hinted excellent batting race Really no obvious. Obvious favourite You're GONNA have what fourteen horses There's only the two scratches you do have to. Have you heard anything about how the field might shake out? Do it either of the as have a chance to draw in. I haven't heard a everyone's been playing pretty tight to the chest I haven't heard But to be honest even if these To a draw in. I'm still looking elsewhere. But as far as scratches and to one of the two or both of them drawing. I haven't heard we'll we'll go top to bottom because I don't really see this as any horse not worth talking about some more than others though but it does start down on. The rail and natural at the VIBE is their New Orleans grant but Certainly among my Louisville friends and people I see at Churchill. Downs all the time Hard to find a trainer that would be Not Hard to find a trainer that would be more popular Greg Foley having a Derby Horse and we've seen it to some extent with mark and Brad and Greg seems to be at that level as well. He's local his kids from around here. They're involved as well. A lot of excitement about major fed Down on the rail based on first nets numbers is going to need to find some improvement But he's by go sapper out of a smart strike mayor so no reason to think the distance Can't help him. Yeah and I've I've I interviewed Greg fully after this horse broke his maiden on we back on the first of January and even then Obviously the camp knew that they had something with this horse even on debut but after that easy win Breaking the maiden Greg Foley and his team his kids Travis and they all had high hopes and It seems to becoming to fruition. Here it's good to see that whole crew getting a just an opportunity. I like Travis said at the Louisiana Derby. He said it's nice to be here. It's good to have an opportunity and at least we have a say in this game and to see them win this race that would be A thrill as far as the horse goes like you said that ninety one birds that speech figure last out obviously gonNA need improve on that in but a lot of these horses in here Have something to prove. So at eight to one on the rail. I honestly there's A. There's a bit of a run into that. I turn. I would have liked to see major fed. John Maybe somewhere near the middle of the pack even though there is that long run into the first turn. You still going to have to work out a trip but Who better to work out a trip than Joel? Rosario so major fed on the round at eight to one if you get part of it. I don't see why he couldn't win. This race and Joel was on NATO. The rebel last week and Somehow kept that horse together to repel would seem like a challenge from every horse in that race and they doll was down on the rail as well so the paint and one thing probably should as I mentioned at the top of all this this is a mile and three sixteenths for the first time It does that Affect you do you see that distance is more like amount an acre more classic test for these horses. I think it's more I think it's more of a classic test To be honest with you I think that the mile and three sixteenths We're going to get to see that I mean once you get the distances like these For three year olds It's I mean every yard is going to be a grew. It's a grinding battle. Every extra yard you put onto these racist so To stretch sources out to a mile and three sixteenths I think it was a good move horsemen obviously agree in both the risen star and in this race So it's GonNa be fun to see how it all shakes out going forward. Yeah the Entry Back. Certainly speaking volumes with the full field number two mailman money Connection to Louisiana Derby fans and we'll see the upset winner from last year's Derby on the undercard by my standards. Of course. That's certainly taken a shine to mailman. Money five to one Definitely some buzz off that maiden win at five to two. I actually didn't think that was a terrible race from the ten whole Was Wide had some traffic early. Definitely could see some improvement in store here at a decent price I mean really like to be a broken record or will be by the end of this one of many scenes. It has fat yet. It's tough to not be a broken record in this racist because all of these sources have Tons of upside and so much approve. Mailman money Pretty rough trip in that Rhythm store on the fifteenth of February still finished a nice fourth and talking to Bread Calhoun after the race He mentioned that he he just waiting on this horse to get To mature a little bit he thinks that this horse going forward is going to be a real threat For the three year olds Throughout the summer Whether or not Mailman. Money is ready for this big of a stage yet. It remains to be seen Breakout obviously mentioning that. The trip was pretty rough and had risen store and we can all see it but As far as wind chances. He's definitely a horse that I'm willing to use underneath especially at that morning line..

Former officer bets went on to work in the Audubon Park Police Department apartment and was a Code Enforcement Officer for Rolling Hills until he was terminated in April of two thousand. Seventeen that say month best was charged in State Court with sodomy since since then bets has pleaded guilty in federal court to enticement and child pornography charges the judge on his case initially rejected a plea agreement that would have put bets behind bars. I for fifteen years saying the sentence was too lenient. He scheduled to be sentenced again in August after about a year or two I'd grown enough officers. Well officer bats started texting me an appropriate things and I didn't I WANNA say anything about it to our superiors. He's one of the people that decide whether you get promotions. Whether you stay with the program things like that so I just kind of went with it. What would he texted you? That was inappropriate. It was it was beyond bike friendly conversations. He would ask for nude pictures. Ask for favors stuff like that. Ask if I would want to. You go work details or do ride alongs with him. When did you feel like he had crossed the line and started to become a predator? He would it was on a regular basis. He would ask for nude photos asked for me to come over all sorts of things at at this point. CFO showing signs of emotion. He's constantly tapping a foot and clearing his throat. More often than usual. It's clearly tough for him to share his stories of abuse. Did you ever go over Once when he picked me up and so he pick you up at your house. Yes Sir he picked me and and see up and what I mean what happened people so he picked you ended other plates. Yes and what happened. And so he He had called it and text best thing he needed help. Fifteen and seventeen. They'd get out he He said the fridge was full of alcohol. And that's when he started to come onto us and I was extremely nervous. Didn't know what to do who to call call. So that's when I started drinking and from there. He took us into his bedroom and some messed up. Things happened it. He did he wait till you were. Were drunk take advantage of you know I had about two or three and I had a buzz. And that's when he pulled us back into his room started taking our clothes off and kind of pushed us onto the bed and from there it let onto to him giving us oral sex and US giving him oral sex and it led to him penetrating me and NC He took us back to our house about an hour or so after after and we kind of left us alone for a bad then after that he started back putting pressure on us. Hey do you WANNA come over. Hey can you send me more pictures. He kept on chasing. Thank us and I mean. How long did this continued to this kind of relationship continue? It continued well after I got back from the military Came back to Kentucky about a year after going through my training and all that I came back back and I was over eighteen he would still continually contact me. Ask Ask for pictures. Ask Me for favors. He would ask me to come over and mess around with him and just ignore them. You didn't tell anyone about that night at his house now. The only the only a person I did tell besides in C- was officer would thirty two year old Brandon Montas would was fired by the Louisville Metro Police Department -partment on April thirteenth. Two thousand seventeen in January of this year would pleaded guilty to a felony attempted enticement of a minor charge. According to court documents would met the teen explore camp in Kentucky where he was working as a counselor he pursued the teen over social media and attempted to coerce them into sexual activity. The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in prison but prosecutors and woods attorneys have agreed to a five year stint behind bars. The judge in the case agreed to a slightly longer sentence that will put brandon. Would in jail for seventy months He told me we needed to to talk with the higher ups about it and I told him I did not want to come forward I was scared of what would happen only after the lawsuits were filed would. CF come to believe that would was involved in the alleged cover up. What would you? I think what happens if we came forward I would be shamed I would lose my spot on the department. My father would pull us out of all the extra activities that we are doing I was. I guess it's just scared of the repercussions of coming forward. Did you ever did you ever fear or feel like you could be hurt because of this. Did you ever feel career violence in a way now. Kennedy was really intimidating. When did did you become aware that that this wasn't just that that would was involved? That flirty had helped covered When did you become aware of all of that? I wasn't completely aware of this situation until it was completely brought to light right about a year and a half ago when everyone started filing suit when everyone was getting interviewed and we had started started talking about what had happened with each other. Does everyone have similar stories of how this happened. Does there seem to be a pattern there for the officers. You're yes A few other plaintiffs that were victims of him. Who I've discussed have told me that? The same things happen to them. He would pressure them for nude pictures and from there escalated and he's facing. He's facing criminal charges now yes deal. As prosecute another one vets alleged victims share details of his abuse in an exclusive interview with Fox News although he was a few years older than pets and a fellow cop he said the officer violently forced him into sexual acts he requested to remain anonymous were referred to him as Daryl. Actually really. I'll be paying friends with through social media. When did you first hang out in real life for the first time as friends in real life At his home we were we were just watching. TV and he got up. He's not going to. I gotTa go pee or something or he came back in next to me on the SOFA. so you know it was. It wasn't like we're right on top of or anything so so I didn't think anything about that. He's sitting on the SOFA next year You know again the the there were no lights on just the TV light. So you know at that point. I wasn't really thinking consciously that something's wrong here But you know I thought oh well this would still almost built awkward silence kind of you know just making conversation about things to go along and he asked me a question about something about so now you know. Walk and talk if I need to So I started going off on this subject or whatever and I wasn't making eye contact back with him I was looking at the TV again. It's darker in there So I'm I'm going through the story of whatever I was talking about and and it was almost like situation but I had been before where he took my my hand it over and For lack of better term. He was clouded. We'll put it that way You know it was it was. I don't even know the word to describe that other than under shock So I drift away and you know just kind of made a joke about it like you know Kinda trying to laugh off and and You know ease the tension or whatever but that I had going on I made a joke or something and you know.

And you take a young person who has been sexually assaulted sexually abused intimidated. Who has gone so far to till and other officer And nothing happens David. Yates is a councilman and end attorney. In Louisville in two thousand sixteen he was contacted by someone claiming to have been sexually abused by officers in the explorer program. And I'd hoped that it wasn't as large as it was but it was just a terrible secret. Yates filed the first lawsuit that contained a striking number of allegations allegations including rape destruction of evidence and intimidation by Louisville Metro. Police Department officers. We'll get into the details a little later on but I it's a story about how he learned of the abuses. It started an individual Hit spoken to me and through my law practice. Olive doc contacted Will eventually be a client in Think I filed with NC in March sixteen. NC was a youth explore cadet that filed the first lawsuit against the Louisville Metro Police Department also just to be clear. NC is not his real name due to the graphic and perverse details of the story. His identity has been concealed not long after. NC came forward more cadets disclosed graphic abuse to yates he could either take action or keep it to himself for him. It wasn't much of a choice. They had the data that the the you know. For from their social media sites the text messages and stuff from the individual abusers. I think that the their individual stories all clobbering each other pictures of the Genitalia of the abusers that they had sent them the tipping point that led him to file. Suit was what he calls calls the inaction of police leadership to hold officers accountable for their abuses. Then they're young lady. There was another case that was filed. there was another situation -Tuation in the media covered it that she had reported what was going on Base came to her home and they insured the parents that this officer would never be around. anyone in would be an officer was going to be the chiefs desk. Yates named officers. Brandon would good and Kenneth Bets the alleged primary of users in the scandal. Also named were officers. Curtis flaherty police chief Steve Conrad Mayor Greg Fischer as well as is the boy scouts of America and learning life to parent organizations of the Youth Explorers Program. I made multiple attempts to speak with beds would and their lawyers about the ongoing civil and criminal cases against them. I even ran into one of bets as attorneys in an Elevator in Louisville. Despite all of this they refused to offer comment or make themselves available for interviews additionally multiple attempts to reach the boy scouts of America and learning for life. What unanswered today? No one from either organization has respond to my emails or my calls similarly attempts to speak with flaherty Conrad and Mayor Fisher went unanswered Fisher. Staff Senator previously circulated statement about the abuse allegations saying it's imperative this administration must get to the bottom of these disturbing allegations flirty attorney the settling Did tell me. He expects the accusations of negligence leveled against his client to be dismissed. Upcoming hearing currently flirty is named As defendant in all seven civil suits filed by former explorer cadets. His attorneys said he is innocent and ran a very safe programme the lawsuit alleges that NC was raped by wooden. Bats acts the officers recorded on camera. It also accuses the former officers of tampering with and destroying evidence to cover up the abuse. NC's lawsuit was the catalyst that Sent Louisville Spinning. The allegations made by gates in that lawsuit are led to resignations firings investigations and criminal charges being filed against beds and what the trail a lot of lefty social media to actually send naked pictures of himself back and forth on the harder harder part was to show the cover up But that started at Revlon will gates was a councilman for Lulu. He knew he would face pressure pursuing his own city. So he brought Tad Thomas. On as additional counsel Thomas would eventually become lead attorney on all seven lawsuits after Yates was forced to to step away. And how many victims have come forward in total We've talked we've talked to a number I would say. Gosh I'd need a dozen fifteen really. Yes and these are all these all. Come back to the same officers woods and that's There's essentially yes words bets Shuman I believe is the third third officer Brad. Shuman is accused of misconduct. Unlike bets would he hasn't been charged criminally and remains on desk duty for the Louisville Metro Police Department detail the allegations against human in the fourth episode so it starts out with text messages You know flirting essentially Promising things in return. So you know in these in this particular case my clients were promised things like rat alongs or you know special treatment within the Explorers Program. You know if you do this. I'll let you do this. This sort of thing would pro quo. Thomas said all the victims detailed similar patterns of behavior by the officers. They didn't ambush the teens. But steadily increase the pressure and escalated their actions age. Pretty Grotesque Yes Is there some nonconsensual consensual sexual intercourse. you know you know there's a threesome frankly with two boys To minors take take the case of. CF another plaintiff represented by Thomas. He said he and NC were raped by officer bets when they were just teens. He joined the explorer our program in two thousand and eight at fourteen years old. CF story is previously unheard and his lawsuit was recently unsealed while he discusses abuses says that happened to him and NC together. It's important to note that his lawsuit is separate from NC's CF story details graphic accounts of sexual assault and rape the following audio maybe disturbing to some audiences additionally my voice in the following clips is a little quieter than normal. It's it's a result of the circumstances of our recording and there's no need to adjust your headphones. My father my whole family was always involved in Public Service so he was a captain on fire department He was a police officer and and And a city near us so we were always involved with public services. So you knew you met officers. Bentson would vary early on then. Yeah where they tell me a little bit about how they interact with with the larger group. The officer bats was kind of standoffish. He had his own group of people at he would talk to. He didn't really talk to new recruits officer would was really friendly. Everybody liked him he was really really friendly. I could sit with them and talk about anything thirty four year. Old Kenneth Ryan beds. It's spent fourteen years with the Youth Explorer Program as both Cadet and mentor. "Chief of police because we know at some point in time he was made aware where exactly when you know. We'll get into once we get into discovery But you know. The city is responsible for the conduct of its officers and You know so we named the city and then we brought in the boy scouts and learning for life because learning for life. Handles these or coordinate programs nationally Yates knew the litigation will get contentious and brought Tomasson. Early has co-counsel we worked together on the case For many Eddie minds and it wasn't until he was disqualified in the in CK's say it was December January and why was disqualified The judge determined that he had a conflict too because he is the President of Metro Council and as President Metro Council felt that he could not follow lawsuit. Essentially against the Louisville Metro Police Department and other employees of Metro will so he he. He was essentially suing the city. That he that he worked for that was their allegation. Yes that was what the judge found A. We disagreed with that hat because under Kentucky law there's a separation between the Metro Council than the city is the executive So we didn't feel like back There was a conflict depositions and a whistle blower case for Jimmy Harper. An officer who alerted councilman James to the alleged scandal showed inconsistencies. He's about win the mayor new of the abuses clearing the path for possible negligence. If our investigating I would want to investigate everybody from top to bottom all the way to the top. Does that include the mayor all the way to the top. That's Thomas Clay. A Longtime Louisville Attorney Ernie and thorn in the side of the Metro Police Department. He's representing Harper in a whistle blower lawsuit. The main inconsistency as I recall it was the mayor said during a two thousand thirteen investigation. What he learned about that he read about or saw in the media and the deputy mayor and the chief both said they had individual meetings with the mayor where he was briefed on the course of that investigation and the deputy mayor and the chief of police said that he was? He was briefed on the investigation or briefed on the allegations as early as two thousand thirteen. That's my recollection. Yes flirty alleged role in the scandal goes beyond negligence. He is accused of tampering with and destroying evidence of sexual misconduct allegedly going so far as to delete explicit photos of an officer from a teenage girls phone in front of her parents when they filed a report. Did major flaherty delete sexually explicit photos photos off of a victim's phone has been had been accused of deleting sexually explicit photos off of a victim's phone yes whose men text I that could imply a violation of state and federal law about destroying evidence. And that's those those are those are felony charges correct yesser this view of the youth explorer scandal paints a picture of negligence and criminal wrongdoing. That's in would or at the centre with flirty acting. In a way that protected and facilitated their abuse Furthermore Chief Conrad allowed bets to resign without facing criminal prosecution despite knowledge of allegations of gross sexual abuse lodged against him as the FBI continues to investigate those seeking justice in Louisville hope. Their questions will be answered in the next installment of the series will explore how widespread teen sex abuse is in the youth explorer scandal across the nation. Also we'll hear one more time from the two alleged victims. CF and Darryl we also have a fourth episode dedicated to unraveling five explore lawsuits lawsuits. That were unsealed in the final days of investigation. We'll give a full update on. We're all criminal and civil litigation surrounding the scandal stands so stay with us. That was our reporter Andrew Kuyper in the next episode. We'll talk to two individuals who have investigated cases of sex-abuse in explorer chapters across the country. What they found shows that Louisville is not alone in this scandal? So stay with us. This is Laura Ingle and you've been listening. Running to Fox News investigates..

It's GonNa Happen but is have to stay strong victims names of sexual violence experienced trauma that manifests in a variety of ways. A study reported in the clinical psychology review found that adults who experienced sexual assault where seventy percent more likely to contemplate suicide. They had higher rates of anxiety depression and drug use. We've mentioned lawyers for the victims. uh-huh in Louisville who said their clients have exhibited similar behaviors. Here's councilman David. James with the tragic story minor standing as the FBI Interviewed that individual vigil Earlier in the day believe it was around ten. AM in the morning. I ended the interview lasted two to three hours And then that individual left The interview came home and about two hours later. committed suicide attorney deviates corroborated the suicide. CF and Darryl are two alleged victims officers in the middle of this scandal both shared their stories in exclusive interviews with Fox News in our first episode. CF is still pursuing his civil lawsuit against Officer Bets and the Louisville Metro Police Department. He's currently recovering from injuries. Sustained while in a motor vehicle accident while serving in the army. I hope that this will shed a light on the police department. Show what happened and I hope that nationally if this is happening elsewhere the explores floors are cadets will come forward and not be scared to do so. Darryl retired from the police force in two thousand fourteen due to progressively worsening health conditions. He's now working part time in the Louisville area and actively seeking professional counseling as an outlet for the trauma from the abuse. He suffered by officer bets. He thinks that there's been ongoing sexual abuse in the program for years before what's been reported. The Police Department is overwhelmingly. Great people you know bought by the most level but you know you see stories like this. We're occasionally there's a bad apple that comes in in this case. I think I think it it happened before. Bet some would We'll we'll put bet worry Darryl said he's waiting for justice for the other victims and hoping for a change in police and city leadership in our fourth episode so we'll dive into a number of allegations made in five recently unsealed explorer lawsuits. "Felt he had to let the people officially in charge work their case just five months after James met with chief. Conrad something happened the turn the Community of Louisville inside out. NC was the first plaintiff to file a civil lawsuit against the officers the allegations within the lawsuit our heroine. NC claimed that he was raped by officers beds and would actually recorded on camera in our first episode we heard from cf another plaintiff who claimed he and NC were raped by officer bets. CF has filed separately and after initial lawsuit. I had about two. We were three and I had a buzz. And that's when he pulled us back into his room started taking are closed off and kind of pushed us onto the bed and from there it lead onto him giving us oral sex and US giving him Oro Sacks and it led him penetrating me and and see eh. NC's allegations of abuse now public. The News ripped through Louisville. You know the media is all over it and people are talking about it. Council members are talking about got it. Police officers are talking about it. Citizens are talking about it. You know I can't go to the grocery store that being stopped by citizens other council members are having the same thing in in in another lawsuit is filed and More of the same have council members calling me saying what are we going to do the lawsuits where the tipping point for James. He met with Mayor Greg Fischer and urged him to contact the F. B. I. to look into the allegations but the mayor's office refused James Request for outside law enforcement instead Fischer decided to hire an outside investigator former. US District Attorney Carry Harvey for one hundred forty thousand dollars. Mayor Fisher said in in a statement that is of the utmost importance to get to the bottom of the youth explores sex-abuse. James took issue with the decision to hire carry harvey. Not What the decision to have an investigation. Gatien the scandal. The private investigator has no ability to arrest. Anybody has no ability to search. Warrants has no ability to do subpoenas all those things that are necessary you to investigate a case and had the tools and resources and assets that you need to do that. James was prophetic as harvey began investigating. The police union prevented handed him from interviewing LAPD officers. Because of a clause in their collective bargaining agreement a heavily redacted version of the report was recently released after months of delays delays in it Harvey found that Louisville Metro. Police made mistakes in handling the allegations of misconduct. The report also found no evidence a cover up by Mayor Fisher and largely cleared chief. Conrad of mishandling the investigation in Tibet's misconduct however the allegations of abuse that were recently recently released. In Harvey's timeline are disturbing metro council. Recently voted to release Harvey's timeline of official knowledge of the abuse which is separate from his original report although the names of the miners redacted local Fox News Affiliate W. D. Rby reported that flirty was fully aware of sexual misconduct allegations made made against pets. They were made as early as two thousand and two when the beleaguered officer was still a Teen Cadet in the Explorer Program flirty submitted a written report of the allegations allegations against bets to a superior yet the department still hired him for years later in two thousand and six as a recruit neither flirty or the department could be reached as for comment regarding the hiring of bets after allegations had been made multiple attempts to reach L. NPD's listed public information. Officer have gone unreturned flurries thirties attorney lease settling or did tell me. He expects the accusations of negligence leveled against his client to be dismissed in an upcoming here. Currently flirty is is named as a defendant in all seven civil suit filed by the former youth explorer cadets. His attorney said he is innocent and ran a very safe programme. The first allegations allegation of sexual misconduct against an LAPD explorer happened in two thousand two the name is redacted but a source close to the investigation tells WDR beat it was was a minor in the explorer program named Kenneth Betts. Betts is now at the center of the Youth Explorer Program Sex Abuse case now charged with several counts of sexual abuse abuse. The fact that we knew there was a problem in two thousand two and that we still did not do anything about it as a police department. The children were molested. It's the most disturbing detail for Metro Council president. David James Documents released Thursday showed that two female explorers came forward in two thousand to to sing. Bets sexually abused them. There is a solid took place and lieutenant clarity. Then tenant clarity later. Became major flirty. was well aware of that situation. Four years later in two thousand six betts joined the department in became involved with the explorer program. He's now accused of salting eight explorers before he resigned in two thousand fourteen. So here we are in two thousand eighteen saying. How did this happen? A knowledge timeline shows that chief Conrad knew about some assaults as early as twenty thirteen and chief. You've Conrad really knew about it. Why did you not stop the program and check on these children to make sure that no further bad things? We're going to take place the same time. Line shows Samir. Fisher wasn't made aware of any allegations until November twenty sixteen. He ended the explorer program in March. Twenty Seventeen Fisher tweeted a statement that says in part heart. I remain committed to ensuring that all questions are answered. That justice is served in that all necessary. Measures are taken to make sure. This never happens again. Harvey's timeline has bets joining the explorer program in Nineteen Ninety nine and would in two thousand and two thousand to two females accused bets of sexual misconduct conduct the allegations against pets. When he was a member of the Louisville Metro Police Department go back to two thousand and seven when Harvey reported that he took an explorer to a local park mark and demanded oral sex? The first allegations harvey found against would date back to two thousand eleven when he said the officer had sex with a seventeen year old and exchanged changed explicit e mails with a sixteen year old. Harvey's timeline and report do well to fill in some of the missing details about the allegations against bets would and flirty clarity. However the findings were questioned by some in city leadership? James said the report was not so thorough in its findings and mayoral candidate and councilwoman. Angela elite took issue with a previously undisclosed professional relationship between Harvey and deputy mayor. Allan Hessen leads said hasn't Harvey worked together. And Former Governor Steve Beshir's administration neither Hessen or harvey could be reached for comment. This report isn't enough for James and others who hoped the FBI investigation Asian. Give a clear picture of who knew what and when so Contacted a friend of mine that is retired from from the FBI and explain what was going on and said I really needed to talk to the agent in charge. And then that took place and so so the next day the FBI said that They would start looking into the case. The FBI confirmed affirmed Fox News that they began investigating. Major Curtis Flaherty the Director of the local explorers program who was also in charge of the unit that looks into criminal misconduct by police police officers. They said their investigation is being done in coordination with Departments Public Integrity Unit which is no longer headed up by flaherty so With an investigation. We're taking place about officers doing inappropriate things with explorers. Then it would have been his officers that would have been sent to do that. Investigation and he would have been in charge of directing how that investigation doc plays well. That's definite conflict of interest. The scandal prompted chief Conrad to suspend the program in November of two thousand sixteen emails obtained by Fox News. Show that flaherty successfully lobbied to have it reopened just a week later for a slate of summer activities including National Explorer Pistol Missile Competition. The regional and national explore competitions were described to me on background by multiple sources as breeding grounds for abuse. Indeed Harvey's report uncovered an alleged incident. Were Bets touched and explorer cadets genitals at a two thousand twelve explore conference in Fort Collins Colorado. It's not clear why flaherty was pushing to keep this particular program open but it did show that he intended to remain with the department for some time Larry's request to keep the program open was rescinded and the local chapter was eventually closed for good in March of two thousand seventeen at this point the FBI was investigating the abuse. In Louisville Louisville's youth explorer chapter many had been interviewed including flaherty a month after the FBI interviewed him flirty retired from his job. The circumstances of which raised questions among those closest to the scandal Clerides.

"Hello I'm Laura Ingle Bill. Welcome back to another episode of Fox News Investigates This is the third installment in our series on teen sex abuse. In the Louisville Metro Police Department in the first episode we heard from two alleged victims of a former Louisville officer who detailed graphic experiences of abuse and rape in the second lawyers politicians detailed an alleged plot to cover up the misconduct. A warning that some of what's discussed in this podcast is graphic in nature and may not be suitable for young audiences. Fox News has reached out to all parties central to the scandal for a comment. Some chose not to respond. And now here's our reporter Andrew Kuyper. Hello I'm Andrew Kuyper. Thanks for joining us in this episode. We're going to hear from an academic and investigative. Let's get a journalist. Both of whom have deeply investigated. Instances of sex abuse in youth explore chapters across the nation in the first episode. We heard from two who alleged victims of a former Louisville officer with detailed graphic experiences of abuse and rape here. Cf a victim who filed a lawsuit against the officers he He said the fridge was full of alcohol. And that's when he started to come onto us and I was extremely nervous. Didn't know what to do who to call. So that's when I started drinking and from there. He took us into his bedroom and some messed up. Things happened in the second episode. We spoke with lawyers and local politicians close to the scandal. They detailed their knowledge of what they say is a cover up by police and city leadership. They helped shed light on the claims of abuse and negligence at the center of this story. Here's attorney David Gates that think that obviously The way the program was run looking back. Now I think th that level negligences. That's the standard of here but to say that they actually they they were part of that cover up. And they're part of that I think that that moves on to people in positions of authority. I think it moves all the way up named flared individually for that reason because he ran the the program. The allegations of abuse made by the victims are striking not only because of the severity of them but also because of the pattern they establish. It appears the officers would groomed groomed scouts beginning with inappropriate text messages and eventually escalating their actions to increasingly more sexual and perverse levels. They seem to have exploited. The innocence inhibition of the teenagers. Unfortunately sexual abuse in the Youth Explores Program isn't unique to Louisville. There have been hundreds of documented cases of officers exploiting their positions as mentors to prey on teen cadets. In some cases officers were prosecuted and convicted and others. They resigned or fired from the force today. We'll hear from a local investigative journalist and unacademic both of whom have written extensively on the abuse within the youth explorers programs across the nation. The first Andrew Wolfson he's a longtime investigative reporter with the Courier Journal and Louisville he compiled a database of sex abuse lawsuits against officers involved in police youth explorer programs across the nation from newspaper articles in court filings. We got a tip that A A an officer had been suspended because some allegations involving in his role as a adviser to the explorer program and We weren't able to write I too much about it. And then finally there was a Sealed lawsuit filed under a pseudonym search for the plaintiff. I think that was NC. I remember correctly and We got a a copy of the lawsuit and then went from there. NC was the first victim to file a civil lawsuit. Food Against Former Louisville officers can his bets and Brandon would the lawsuits made explosive allegations and claimed to officers raped him and also recorded boarded the acts on camera. Neither of the former officers were made available for interviews or comment. NC's Lawsuit Tore Louisville Thunder. It was the first of an eventual seven seven lawsuits filed against members of the Louisville Metro Police Department and city leadership. And that I that I reporting that you did on on NC's lawsuit over the ripple effects. I think people were disturbed that That this involved police and had apparently had gone on for a long time and One turned out that an officer who had been allowed allowed to resign from the department was one of the accused and so I think there was a suspicion of whether it was properly handled When it first came to light Wolfson spearheaded a nationwide investigation into sex abuse in the Youth Explorer Program Program? He found one hundred and sixty two victims in at least twenty eight states over the past forty years. Well I am reading about the explorers of it wasn't hard to come. Upon the fact that there were cases stretching back decades we've found that the the executives in charge of scouting in explorer program specifically did not respond respond in an effective way as these cases emerged Part of the problem was that authority was diffused fused between the the scouting organization and The police departments that actually ran these programs. Some of the details wolfson uncovered were harrowing the youngest victims he came across. We're just thirteen years old. In Oregon he found a case where five officers made a sex tape with two boys and two girls. Another instance in Rhode Island six officers had sex with just one girl in Los Angeles. A former explorer turn officer was sentenced to eleven years in prison for sodomizing teenage boys. In some cases the officers prosecuted and served jail time and others they we're allowed to resign or even remained on the force and we were there any patterns. That you that you came across. I think The one thread was a The victims like all explorer scouts were Kind of enthralled with police and wanted to at least consider instead of pursuing those career so they were kicked. Roy Vulnerable to a authority of officers. This cuts to the heart of the issue. The victims victims were abused by officers in positions of power who exploited the kids desire to enter their profession. This exploitation of ambition destroyed many young lives well I think it's it begins. With Manipulation Police Officers Authority figures and some authors really know how to use that in waste aches specially with a teenager that Samuel Walker professor emeritus at the School of Criminology and criminal justice at the University of Nebraska Omaha. Home home the big cop you know. I'm out there dealing with dangerous situations and so on. Well appeals really. Gets the attention of of of you know some younger people in one thing can lead to another in two thousand and three Walker published a study police sex abuse of teen girls. He found over thirty cases where officers were punished for. Sex Abuse in the youth. Explorer Program got calls from people after the initial report was done people who've been and then victims are their parents and so on and And and we got a sense that there are a lot of. I'm pretty. I'm willing to bet that there are a lot of cases where The parents don't go public and there are undoubtedly a lot of cases where the girls themselves never tell their parents or anybody else. So the the the exact amount of of how often this occurs is simply unknown. I I compare it to an iceberg. The keys we counter the tip of the iceberg but as we know about icebergs you know the most of it is below the water level. This seems to hold with the incidents in Louisville where attorney said there were many more victims than those who filed lawsuits. The ones who haven't come forward or maybe even more embarrassed than Children who are abused by police Because they you know. They looked up to Police and least we're entertaining the idea of becoming one so I don't think it's going to grow to those proportions but we haven't really I mean there's obviously I think what what I wrote that story. I think there's still only two or three cases here service more come to the fore here. Walkers concerned with some of the practices and policies of departments who run explorer programs namely how they conduct ride alongs and social interactions in a number of the cases officers were found to invite cadets into their homes and give them alcohol such is the case with cf who detailed his raped by officer. Kenneth Bets in our first episode in California Walker found a two thousand and two case where an officer pled guilty to multiple sexual misconduct charges for abusing three sixteen year old often during late night. Ride alongs my concern is that not enough is being done to To make.

We're going to focus on five recently. Unsealed lawsuits that have cast the Derby city further into tumult. The newly public lawsuit suit detail allegations against a number of current and former LAPD officers. They unveil a rash of explosive allegations. That some say show a ring ring of negligence and cover up that was established to protect officers at the center of the scandal. You've already heard reports from former cadets like cf who said he was raped at a Louisville Metro police officers home when he was just a teen his story which he shared in the first episode of this series is detailed at length in an unsealed lawsuit. Do He He said the fridge was full of alcohol. And that's when he started to come onto. US and I was extremely nervous. Didn't know what to do call. So that's when I started drinking and from there. He took us into his bedroom. Some messed up things happened. You've also heard from local politicians and lawyers who have been central to the Fray Tad Thomas who represents all seven the plaintiffs in the youth explorer lawsuits talked with us in an earlier episode about the cycle of abuse. He said the officers perpetuated. What would happen is a victim? uh-huh of bets would go to would and say this is what happened so woods would say you know what we need to tell Mr Flare knee and so they would go and report it. The Mr Flaherty when woods during the same thing and then flared he would do nothing about it and and vice versa. A victim of woods as we go to bets and say. Hey this is what happened to me what should I do well. Let's go to flair and flair would not do anything. And here's Council President David James and our second episode. He was one of the first outside of the police department to hear of the shocking allegations. I received some communications from some police officers asking me if I had heard about search warrant conducted by the Police Department on an officers don't and I said no I have not and so when they did that I was told that They found videotape of officer. Bets officer would molesting One one of explorers in so it was common shocked by that and so A couple of weeks at passed passed and I had not seen anything on the Muse about Arrest being made and I thought that was awfully strange. At least eight current and former Louisville Metro police officers have been named in the youth explore lawsuits at the center of the scandal are former officers. Kenneth Bets and Brandon would both bets and would have been charged in federal court. Bets has pleaded guilty to enticement and child porn charges. Prosecutors said he met three of his four victims through the youth explore program in his plea agreement bets and his attorneys agreed to a sentence between ten and fifteen years in prison. The judge in best case said the plea agreement of fifteen years in prison was too lenient. He scheduled to be back in court in August to be resentenced. In January of two thousand nineteen would also plead guilty to a federal attempted enticement charge according to the plea agreement would met the explorer a Camp Kentucky and sexually pursued the eighteen over various social media platforms although prosecutors and woods attorneys agreed to a five year sentence. The judge did not the judge recently gave would a longer sentence sentence than what was agreed to in his plea deal. The former officer will spend seventy months in jail. Also central to the controversy is retired. Major Curtis flaherty clarity who ran both the youth explore program and the Department's Public Integrity Unit which investigates criminal wrongdoing officers. flirty has long been accused of allowing allowing the allegations against bets would and officer. Brad Shuman go under investigated and largely unpunished. We'll dissect Schuman's allegations momentarily flirt. His lawyer lease settling Told Fox News that his client maintains his innocence and is expecting to be dismissed from the civil lawsuits due to the statute of limitations. Thomas said the court will resolve that issue in an upcoming hearing. Shuman is the primary defendant in one of the recently unsealed lawsuits. The plaintiff identified only as in court documents initially accused Shuman of raping coercing and sending in soliciting indecent photographs when she was a minor around two thousand and eleven an an amended complaints. The woman walked back the rape claims instead accusing Shuman of groping her sending inappropriate photographs and attempting to solicit sex from her this recalibration of allegations. According to Schuman's lawyer. Carol Pettit is enough to discredit claims. She said Schuman didn't have a relationship with the team. Although she acknowledged the officer was an explorer advisor at the same time beal was a Cadet Pettit said Schuman maintains his innocence. Thomas the plaintiff's attorney said so the defense has employed a number of strategies to drag the court proceedings out for as long as possible so the next step is really to go before the court and see what what she will let us do next. I assume that we will have rulings on our motions to dismiss In the near future either before are they hearing or soon thereafter that I would think and we'll be asking the court when we go in for the status conference one way or the other for permission to proceed in Discovery Cavalry to you. Start sending out written questions to all the defendants into start taking witnessed at positions. And do you feel like this case has moved quickly. I mean and we're GONNA get an arduous process process right You know th the defendants have a right to use the civil process to defend themselves themselves. In a way that they see fit and that includes motions for this miss and procedural tactics Which is what they've done here And removing the federal the court and Fighting Tooth and nail to keep us from being able to start discovery so unfortunately It moved quite slowly slowly Hoping that this judge will give us the go-ahead to start taking discovery and really Keep the case in the high gear. Some of the allegations that it become public our heroine consider this from one of the five lawsuits filed by its against former officer. Kenneth Betz I I think You know some of them the allegations Gheysens. They had really not been discussed and the and the public around until the judge unsealed. The lawsuits are really One would be the sting operation that was conducted in one of our cases. I wear our client had gone and complained to About one of the officers officers and you know asking for nude photographs and Other sorts of harassment and things like that she reported it to some some of the CO defendants in the suit and they Essentially tried to set up a sting with her Where they invited the officer he was already at another other Catholic Picnic They tried to get him made her behind the on one of the buildings and and what I believe happened at that point is tipped off at this was going on and he you know changed his tone and and didn't show up in K. W. versus pets the lawsuit Thomas mentioned the former officer is accused of stalking and attempting to sexually assaulting on multiple occasions between two thousand eleven seven and two thousand twelve. Thomas said he and his team found no records of a sting operation on officer beds after conducting an open records request with the department he said. The lack of documentation of complaints and investigations helps establish a pattern of negligence by flirty and other officers involved in the explorer program at one point during a statewide explorer conference K. W. said bets approached her while she was sitting on a bench and forced his me between her legs making rough contact with her genitalia. Eliya during the same week on the day of her Sixteenth Birthday K. W. alleges that bet singled her out during a group exercise and humiliated her before making being the other explorers singer. Happy Birthday sometime later in two thousand and Thirteen K. W. alleges that that's trapped her in a stairwell with the intent to sexually assault her. He said it was only when someone else came in that she was able to break his grip on her wrist and fleet. The five recently unsealed lawsuits also established allegations against a number of key players in the explorer program. Chief among them is former officer Julius Schmidt. She's accused in multiple lawsuits of helping to cover over the misconduct. Alleged against officer bets and Shuman essentially the lawsuits say that Schmidt helped perpetuate the abuse by failing to report it and sometimes actively preventing appropriate action from being taken..
