"I don't know that. I've ever had such a bonding feeling. Is listening to you on terry. Gross years ago. Promoting your book and you said you got to a point in high school where i looked in the mirror and i said look. This isn't going to be your thing. I'm not gonna run with these lose because unlike you. I'm like you kinda say i apologize in advance so excited to be doing this right now. I'm such a fan. I kind of feel like a one fan contest. I'm going to do a lot of this both of you. Which is i'm going to be like. I'm like you. But i like to do things. I'm good at so in the beauty race i bury thankfully an early on realize. I'm not gonna win here. I'm not going to get a lot of wins here and so it felt good. Just pretend like. I was self selecting out but also the beauty racist changed. When you're in high school it was one thing and now it's not so you are winning beauty race in many ways. Well i wonder if winning it is like not racing exactly. I think that might be the new way to win it. Yes but you know. Markets his constant boring. Disappointing thing that we just keeping like. I can't believe i'm still being so rough in my own. Mind about my face like this is going to be my face. When are we going to become friends. When is it going to happen. And the answer is no right before you. Die the minute before you

"Got a special one for you. This week. Because i am getting together and sitting down with the master of the podcast mr dax shepard. If you know anything about podcasts. And i trust you do if you're listening here today. You know that dax has one of the most popular podcast. It's called armchair expert where he sits down for. Gosh two hours more sometimes with anybody who piques his interest in his curiosity and he is an incredibly curious. Guide incredibly smart guy so he talks about Movies and media but also science and religion and anything that gets him going This most recent episode of armchair expert as he and i were sitting down together was with justin timberlake and so it was fun for me to sit down with dax and have him on my podcast. As you know mine is not a classic podcast. We're really doing a tv interview that gets put into eight minutes about worth of content for sunday. Today on nbc. But what we do here. On the sunday sit down. Podcast is give you the full uncut version of that conversation. You know that. By now so dachshund i get into his life his career his new gig as the host of top gear america. The car racing show which is an absolute dream job for a kid from the detroit area whose mom worked at gm and a guy who just loves cars knows everything about cars has a lot of cars. Thank you for doing this. Oh so happy to join you. I mean we're both in our homes. It's very rare kind of interview. I kind of like this. I wonder if we're all going to get a little too. Used to everything being out of our homes and never want to leave and go do things outside of our homes. Oh yeah. I'm about to resume shooting top gear and other season and i'm appalled that they're expecting show alike. I have cars. i have driveway. Why all the travel. You could drag race in driveway. Probably make a great episode. Have cordray over and just do it certainly. I could do some donuts in the driveway. Room to accommodate. So let's talk about top gear america. I mean there's never been a better fit probably for host and show as a guy who grew up in the detroit area building engines on cars basically since he was a kid loving cars his whole life. How did this opportunity come to you. I gotta say he. There's yes so my whole life has been cars. My dad's sold cars. My mom was married to an engineer in the corvette group. My mother worked at general motors and worked her way up the ladder..
Interview With Robert Livingston
"How you doing. I'm doing good doctor livingston. Are you bummed. That if you google your name you're going to get one of the fathers of the constitution right or one of these early founding fathers taking all the real estate yes yeah this ranch of being named dax. There's just not a bunch out there right now your christian name it is. It is yeah. My mom and dad had read a book in the lead character's name was dax. And let's go for it where you from originally. So i was born in lexington kentucky and that's where i spent most of my time but i've lived in six states in four foreign countries. So do you have a favorite my favorite place to visit his turkey. Eastern bowl is my favorite city in the world really has the oslo balance of chaos and order if you will oh okay good. I need you to drill down on the order. Because when i look at it looks very bright. Very frenetic very exciting. And i'm a little bit like that's seems maybe too chaotic. There's a method to the madness because there are places. I've been that are chaotic. They're just chaos deal with it but turkey just seems chaotic like this. Is it comparable to any other form or european country or is it its own thing and that's why you love it. It's its own thing. But i would say it's most comparable to spain. I don't know if you've been disowned ensuring people go out to eat restaurants. Don't open before nine o'clock in the party starts at one. Am and it goes to eight in the morning and spain has a different rhythm. And i think that's the most similar country to turkey and its mediterranean so similarities in the cuisine fish a lot of oil you know and then a crazy history. One of the most historical places you could visit. And that's what i like about it too. So you just hit the number one criteria for whether i like cities or don't and that is rhythm so i'll be places and i'm like yeah it's beautiful. That's a big tall building. That's got all the accoutrements of a great city. But there's just no rhythm happening here and then conversely you go down to austin texas. They don't have a ton to look at. And i'm like oh i can feel the rhythm all around me exactly now. How did you end up at harvard. Like most things in life. It had something to do with my network. So i was in england at the time because i had accepted a position because again our wanderers case. You can't tell i. Don't mind packing up and going to some exotic place. And i got an offer to take over as head of organizational behavior department at the university of sussex and i had my own center and when i was there at the center i discovered my real passion. I like to say. I transitioned from being a gardener to being a florist. When i was just a straight researcher i had my hands in the dirt. Cultivating blooms if you will. And then. when. I was head of the centre. I interacted with metropolitan police. The nhl the national healthcare service all these organizations to sort of give away my flowers if you will and so. I got into the florist business. Like how do you arrange these flowers into the perfect bouquet to give it to people at weddings. Because what's the point staying in a greenhouse if no one ever sees the beauty of your flowers and so you know when i was in england i discovered the passion of sort of giving away the science and then harvard. You know i was giving a talk. And they said well. You know we're holding company of entrepreneurs will let you come here and do whatever you wanna do if you don't want publish anymore will let you be a practitioner. But an academic at the same time and i was like really because most places aren't set up you know. Harvard makes its own rules. So i sort of took on this position to be an academic practitioner which led to this book that we're going to talk about which is sort of trying to distill. The science synthesize it assembly like a bouquet into something that people can digest and use to make profound sustainable change around racism. So that's like my purpose in life. Now where did you get your doctor. Degree because lexington kentucky and then ending up england emceeing already. You're privy to to dramatically different racial structures. And i wonder where you went to college if you maybe even a third and that somehow helps you on your journey just to have witnessed all this stuff firsthand. I went from coast to coast to coast and into the mid west. So basically i started my undergrad tulane university in. I did a study abroad in spain. Which is how. I came to know. Spain fell in love with spain. And i majored in spanish. That was one of my things. And then i went to. Ucla started at the gulf of mexico. Coast number one went to california. Ucla that was number two. And i was getting a phd in romance language and linguistics. So something completely unrelated. But i was looking at themes of oppression in latin american literature and colonialism. So i always been interested in that. In undergrad i did the thesis on a comparative study of racism in brazil and the united states but long story short i was hiking in joshua tree. And there was a psychology student. Who said you know you're doing really cool research. Did you know you could do this in the real world. And i was like no. There's a field where you can actually study racism and discrimination. She's like yeah you know. Why don't you come in audit a class. And that was the beginning of the end. So i left that program. I got a master's. I was a heroin from impeach d. But decided to start all over again in social psychology. So i started at yale. Struggled from coast to coast to coast and my professor at ucla said. Don't go to yale because i got into princeton yale. He said go to ohio state. That's like the best program in the country in what you're doing and as a phd student or go to programs not schools. And i didn't think. I could live in columbus ohio so i went to yale and then i was like you know what i can't live in new haven connecticut so the professor at ohio state would you guys take me and fortunately i had my own funding because i wanted. Nsf fellowship. so. I was able to export that i went to ohio state and worked with one of the top people in the field maryland brewer. Who's like the godmother of social identity.
Kristen Bell opens up about husband Dax Shepard's relapse: 'I'll continue to stand by him'
"Her her husband, husband, Dax, Dax, Shepard's Shepard's battle battle with with addiction. addiction. I I will will continue continue to to stand stand by by him him because because he's he's very, very, very very worth worth Kristen Kristen Bell Bell standing standing by by her her man man speaking speaking to to Ellen Ellen de de generous generous about husband Dax, Shepard's recent confession that he had been using opioids. You're both so honest and Dax was recently honest about that he strayed from sobriety. Yes. How's he doing now? Is actually doing really great Shepherd, announcing that he'd relapse in his sobriety on his podcast late last month, saying he started to abuse painkillers following recent injuries for the last eight weeks. I'm on them all day in my addict, E brain. I'm doing all the dishes, and I'm being a dad And it's feeling very manageable Shepherd who's been sober for 16 years, confessing to the frozen star. Everybody's up against their own demons. Sometimes it's anxiety and depression. Sometimes it's substance abuse. And the thing I love most about Dax is a that he was able to tell me. And tell us and say We need a different plan right? Like we have a plan. If he gets it, if he has to take medication for any reason I have to administer it, But he was like, so we need a stronger plan. Belle telling Ellen that the two are now in therapy. One of the main reasons I love him is that he's also addicted to growth. He's addicted, Tio evolving and he was like I Don't want to risk this family and I did. So let's put you know new things in place to make sure it doesn't happen again, and we're going back to therapy. And I just I love that He's addicted to growth. "If you give me time to think about myself, I will inevitably star wondering where I'm ranking in this world and I'll start comparing myself to other people all start thinking of the things that Dax doesn't have that he should have and the more time I, spend thinking about myself the less happy I am maybe that's why maybe that's why you're so busy I. think that's probably part of the thing but I I know from service in a it's pretty hard to be thinking about what I do or don't have while I'm helping someone else just get sucked into their problem or sucked into their thing and it just it frees me from thinking of myself in so. One of the things with you is like. I don't think it's right or wrong to be in a relationship or be married I. Don't give I have no position on that. What I have a position on it the way I think it could be hugely beneficial to you is simply. You're going to have to spend so much goddamn time thinking about the other person and in the compromise that you guys have to come to that it it kind of it takes away some of the free time obsessive about yourself in the need and we're at and so it's like fuck all the other stuff just like get some fill up that dance card with other people's problems, and inevitably you have less time to think about yours in really you don't have fucking problems because you're full and there's a roof over your head. Everything else is just abstract, right? All right. This is it. This is. My patrons, my top agents ask questions and you just. Fire. This is Dax Shepard, shit talk and questions. Answered as quickly as you want Leeann since both axe and his wife are successful actors difficult to find A. Balance. It's really not we I don't know why it's almost enough to make me believe in a higher power I get busy she gets time then she gets busy and I get time..

"This is something. Right, then something talk to yourself going another room because whatever comes out of your mouth probably isn't going to be good. COME OUT OF DARK PLACE My favorite example of this to one is you could dedicate the remaining thousand episodes of your podcast to how Short Dax Shepard is. That could be you could even entitle the podcast, DAX Shepard. So short too short. You could do a thousand episodes. It never bothered me because I don't have any fear of being too short I am objectively all I don't have a fear being too short. So you can spend the rest of your life trying to make fun of me for being short and it wouldn't bother me. Now if you had a podcast called, DAX's self centered and sucks up too much energy in a room. I'm bothered by that because I do do that and I have a fear that I do that, and so it would bother me intensely and it would bother you but you know they were right. So how do you do about that? You try to change yourself or did you say I'm innately that way because I do that I might go in a room and whether it's insecurity I don't think they're gonNa let me for. Me I'll be funny I'll be this. It's something that I'm not. It's something that at a young age I did because I didn't like myself. I wasn't confident. My looks whatever it was I did and now I entertain people lightning I'm like, okay I got him. I got him not fucking. Okay right. So so that is is an internal job, right? That's Michael Rosenbaum job that no one else has anything to do with right You can pretend they do, but they don't, and I do think that all of our problems, each individual person on this planet, their problems have nothing to do with anyone else those other people just trigger their fears and their insecurities, and then that's the problem. Look if you if you're if you're self esteem was literally a thousand percent. As? I'm saying if if my confidence in every aspect of my personality was the same as my confidence in that I'm not short I wouldn't have problems because everyone could be saying whatever they were saying who would never bother me. So all of all that to say my only problem is DAX it making sure Dax's self-esteem as optimal level is high as it can get. And then I don't have problems anymore I can't wait for the world to change around me. I, have to change me. Inside of you is brought to you by Vin. "How's it going? How how's quarantining is it? It's it's good now but but it was rocky at first because it's such an adjustment to a When it happened I was I was shooting. Blesses mess top gear than doing the podcast? That's right you were is oh to go from seeing her in the morning and our and then three hours at night to seeing her twenty four hours a day with our two kids twenty four hours a day. She's yeah required some communications some new new guidelines of how we're GonNa well she tells a story and I don't remember the fight was about. She said something on here that resulted in you guys adopting another dog and I it got it got all right right got picked up a new story. Well two things about that one. I'd love to hear your side but also are you ever hasn't talked to talk about your relationship or anything from your personal lives aside from showing your kids in bringing your kids into it. Is there ever anything that you like? This might get this might get called by some Gossip magazine. We should maybe be. I'm aware of it but I'm not concerned about it. So the things that I get. I have an emotional response to our one hundred percent of the time. I have some fear underneath of that right. So let me give you an example. If you dedicated your entire show to making fun of me and every episode you talked about how short I was just two short DAX shepard too short. He shouldn't be in business. He's too short. You could do a million episodes. It would never bother me because I'm not too short. No fear being short if I if I know one thing about myself that I'm tall so it'd be a crazy show to do too but yeah but you couldn't penetrate it because they don't have a fear of being too short now if you did a show about that. I wasn't talented enough to be the lead of a show on ABC. Bother me. If I'm not interested I'm arrogant that bother me because I am arrogant. Mono at all or anything that I actually have a fear of would bother me. I don't care if a magazine says Chris Denier GonNa get divorced or that. We have a shitty relationships amazing relationship. Because I know exactly what our relationship is and I'm super happy and proud of it so in that way it would be like them calling me short like to make a meal like we're falling apart or yeah okay. We're not falling apart so go. I don't care right in fact I to the point where it strikes me that you guys have fun with it if anything you read those stories and like sometimes you call them out kind of like what you did with Schwarzenegger you literally just like read them verbatim and then all the one that we had like some kind of sex ring. I was like and again ultimately kind of flat terrain sexy their worse like worse rumor to start with. We haven't found in a year but the notion that we're like swinging is kind of exciting kind of Flat Arik. Do you remember this fight. Though the fight about the with that resulted in you getting another dog. She didn't really remember the details. Well I do. And what's funny is. That's exactly what cycled back for corn team. Which is my wife and I as all people. We approach things differently and I have a lot of childhood triggers. I had a lot of Stepdad's I don't like to be told what to do. I have a huge authority thing so that I was. I came out and there was a God damn list on the counter. If you wanted me to do I was like Hey. I don't work for you and you have been working alive right. Yeah Yeah Yeh back to back to the fear thing I feel very good about what kind of Dad I am. You could. She could go on. Tv AND SAMA. Terrible Fucking Dad. And even though there'd be a very credible source because she witnesses it wouldn't bother me at all because I feel great about what kind of interesting. Yeah and likewise. I feel very good about what I do around the house. I fix all the fucking Dude Shit. I'm in the cars and I don't do laundry and I can live with that peace with that. I do a lot of great stuff. Yeah I'm never going to walk through the House and be like I gather up a couple of loads of laundry and he's just not gonNA do domestic lane. You're very clear about your lane. I've accepted what she does. And it's been going smoothly for twelve years so I don't think we need to revamp any list like hold on a second. This is a whole new rules now. So once we got into quarantine. I certainly have enough time to do that laundry but I'm still not GonNa do that laundry interesting. What about that mind you? I washed dishes. I don't mind washing dishes at all. I probably five times a day. So it's not like won't it's not like I'm not doing quote? Yeah Women's Work. Not a pig. Decks is doing very clear. Fuck about laundry. I don't go through much laundry. Their problem that they're all going through so much laundry. I wonder if you've pinpointed where that may have come from that specific aversion in childhood. I wonder if there's a thing in the text back into but you know where it comes from I do. I had a lot of Stepdad's and they would arrive. And they really nice at first and then the second there is a marriage now it was time to the way they thought a house should be ran interesting and I was part of four different global strategies on living and none of them I agreed with and when I turned eighteen. I say guess what I will never fuck in ever be part of someone else's strategy live that I'm on the wrong side of it. I am over. I overreact to that. I should be able to just do laundry of my wife. Wants me to clearly. But she also understands where that trigger comes from. She's very sensitive to your your story. You're damned yeah the really bigger conceptual global thirty thousand foot view issue. That's going on is really. Hey there's a way you like to do things. There's a way I like to do things. And they're not always going to match up and so even as something as simple as she feels very productive in the morning when she wakes up the I ninety minutes. She's awake and she's on fire that's because she's looking at me and I said I sit and I drink coughing. Chew Tobacco and try to get a dump going and I and I have a window of productivity and I just say like Hey I'm never going to have the same window of productivity of you for whatever reason mine comes later in the day and I don't want to ever be evaluated based on your yes. Katie and Rhythm. Or whatever rhythm you do right now if. I'm a Lazy Motherfucker Call Me Out. But it's not going sing up the way you like it that makes sense so that definitely makes sense. So how did it come up again? Just come up again because now we're together all the time they're more. You have more time to do things more available. They've seen me set time. But when to say a my mind in my mind I was like dude. I've got three full-time jobs. Yeah this is awesome man. I'm finally get to sit in my house for a month and a break. I haven't had in two years and I'm going to enjoy the shit out of this is like my summer vacation and rightly so she's like you know you could. You could do a little more. You're a great storyteller. Your we've heard so good impressions but also you have such great recall in a weird way. I've always wondered because we had a lot of sober guests on the show and I wonder how did that affect your decision to WanNa do podcast? He was that something that you've cultivated in sobriety on your sober well. Being in a is the foundation of the podcast which is right for the last fifteen years will go sit in front of strangers and be dead honest indeed vulnerable and I think we all have a fear of what being dead honest dead vulnerable will result in generally. It's result embarrassment or shame but through practicing that for fifteen years a hundred percent of the time that I'm honest in own my fears what I see on other people is not like judgment are or disapproval. It's recognition it's always recognition. Even though the details may different the underlying emotions of all of our things are so relatable and so. I think I just through practice of doing that. It's made me far more confident in in In being honest I don't think I there's no way I have this podcast without mean in a podcast but it would just be all comedy or something. You said this to me after. I left When we did the podcast a year ago started second guessing things I'd said. Oh my God I talked about the ex and stuff like that you said everything is on the two has to be on the table. You got to be completely honest and vulnerable and I started thinking. Are there things like that that you're afraid to talk about that? You feel vulnerable about the trickier thing for me. Is My children. Because I can't resist but to talk about them and they're at an age where they won't know I talk about them. I've noticed this in Stern. Like stern talks about everything in his life but his daughters have to assume that came from them. Probably saying hey. I don't want to be a part of your show. Yeah but the thing the thing I walk. That's really tricky. In in only time will tell. Is You know I can see where they would be like. Hey leave me out of your stupid show. And then by the same token I could see them listening back going man. He couldn't stop talking about me. He thought about me he thought about me when he was talking to Will Ferrell. He thought about me when he was talking to Sheryl Crowe. I don't know that I would like that like if my vice saw that. My Dad just could not keep me out of his thoughts. I would like it. What if your kids at one point like well? Why don't you bring me? I WANNA be a part of this. Are you afraid that they're they must be charismatic? As hell they must be funny. I hear them in the background of your. You know. They're like little presences felt it's funny stories instead. Comedy insects crawling around. Yeah and and great pedigree obviously yeah. They're they`re. They're both really funny and charming. One in particular is is we call her Shirley Farley? Because she's a mix between Shirley Temple and Chris Farley. She's She can't she can't do anything. That's not funny. Good Watch watcher e you go walk across the room. You just can't help it trying. And also she has this amazing the thing. I can't believe she has almost no little kid has this is. She'll make a dynamite joke and then she does not go back to the well. She won't hit it again. Walk my other daughter. If she she lands one she's GonNa try three or four Morte Ring Ring Ring Milk. It right kids do but my one daughter she's like Shit Beaumont and walk out and then and then we'll know when to bring it back again might be an hour later. Wow how does she have that awareness that instead of wind? That's and I would never? I would never put them on the show. Yeah I would interview them..

"To tell them what you were in surprise even got the names of the Shit right because he just learned that we've heard the word Pong? Yeah I see in the paddling peddling show. They right celebrities by paddling in Olympics. So when I was at that breakfast I hit my impression of him right so about a month later. I get a phone call. Pick up is could you please hold for the governor? And then all of a sudden he gets on the phone and he goes he goes DAX ahead really good time ready motorcycles. With you and going the breakfast I'm Gonna I'm going to be doing some some fundraising events. And I want you to come out on stage and do you impersonation of me and I go. cadets that's so flattering. But you're a Republican and I'm a libertarian. And he goes I swear to God. He goes me too as as he. He's a libertarian. To mind you. I'm not a libertarian anymore. For whatever that's worth the time it was and so I and then I Fucking yes I'll do it so I go to this rally you gotTa do stage. Yeah so you'RE GONNA love cell so I do this thing. And then this results in another now a lunch following the event so we ride motorcycles. We go to eat in Beverly Hills. And now we're at Table Ten people and I'm telling stories I'm telling tons of stories. I refuse to look at him. I will not look at him this whole lunch. I'm telling you his his assistant. I'll look dead in his eyes and tell him the story directly to his face. Just never really make eye contact with Schwarzenegger and I'm just trying to get him on the run. A little bit and sure enough like today's later get a phone call will come up to the house and went to move. I'm be home for Christmas and so I go to his home owning.

"Several years ago my older brother are older brother? Damian and I were walking to our car parked in New Haven Connecticut and we saw a woman next to her car seemed kind of distraught and it was raining out and we asked what was wrong. She said Oh my God flat tire and and we said you know what? Why don't we just fix the tire to men? Not that only men can fix tires but you know and we had an umbrella. We gave her an umbrella so she's standing there while. We're trying to figure out how to do this. I realized that halfway through. We both realized that we didn't really know how to change a tire. I I'd done it before. And certainly our father do it but it was just really difficult taking a long time and at a certain point. She started getting frustrated. By the time we finished. She didn't think us in a genuine way. She's thinks like this. Thanks a lot and we both walked away feeling both emasculated and maybe a little less willing to help a stranger out which sucks. It's too bad I wasn't with. You would have been able to help in a Jiffy because we grew up in the same house that I'm just kidding anyway. Here's the show could be a dream ship. Ooh You're listening to life is short. I'm your host just in long nine sweetheart With always is my equally inept. A- changing a tire brother Christian so unnecessary well. I just said that I couldn't do it. I was kidding. Yeah I know but just in case. It wasn't clear you don't you want to know how to change a tire like that. I know of chain look for the record. I can change one. I in theory. I know how to do it. I know the steps required. I just remember but I've never done it. I don't think I could do. The scary part is when you put the crank thing that props up the car and you know the name will. Do you know the name. Yeah curricular now. It's US Shit as soon as I Jack Jack Jack Or Jack. I don't know James. The scary part is because I've done it before I put it on the wrong part. If you don't put it on the like solid foundation this much I know if you put it on the bumper to bumper the founder of the fray or well. Here's in front of the tire. Otherwise rip the frame off the side. It's got him in front of the back tires but see. I know that that happened to me once on my Volkswagen Golf. You remember that car that I it had a blue door. One of the doors blew. The rest was Maroon and I painted like racing stripes on it is a stick shift. Eighty four golf. I loved that car. I don't WanNA blame our father completely on this. Now he had done but the fact is shit here. Here's the fact. He never really taught us that much about automotive maintenance. We I know how to do basic dino how to check the oil in a car how to change the oil car but beyond that. I can't really. We really do anything he can. And I wish I you know part of it is. We had a really reliable good mechanic growing up so I shot a Jamba Guardia. So we had to learn it ourselves but I wish I did. I wish you knew more about auto mechanics because it's every time I see a movie. There's a scene in being. There's a scene in stand by me. Were there like working on a carburetor. Remember that was a question Trivia night. We've been doing trivia night with our friend Dan Scheckter and I thought for sure carburetor looked like this thing that I was wrong. We had the multiple choice. That was embarrassing. We got that wrong we We're not men in that way. No but why. Why are we talking about this wanting to be better at mechanics auto mechanics part because our guest is the exact opposite of us when it comes to your guests thrives on working on cars and manly stuff That again I mean this is going to make a sound soft. No no but but but referring to people who know about Carl's being man I it's were reinforcing. These gender Stereo. Shouldn't I know but let's say to be safe in the very traditional definition of what manliness is one of the things that a man traditionally can do is fix cars right okay and our guest. Today is a very traditional. That's in the man. In that way. Well said BELLSA safely said as it is. I know you don't WanNA offend. But our guest today being thoughtful as is our guest today. He's a thoughtful traditionally adept to man. He's fascinating in that. He is both traditionally Manley but also very sensitive and vulnerable and compassionate which aren't traditional values. Necessarily four he has both old fashioned masculine qualities and very new fashion. Very modern masculine qualities. Sensitive vulnerable he's a good listener. Telling me okay here. We go our guest today. Is Kim Jong UN? Sorry our guest today is Dax Shepard. You might know him yes you everyone knows front well now. Everyone knows him for. Are you feeling self conscious about being bad at this because taxes so good at podcasting? Dax isn't doesn't do a big opening though on his show. No no he's a very in two zero point taken Access a very popular. Podcast called Armchair experts and DAX's armchair expert which he does with Monica Pattern. They that really launched us. We owe him a lot and we'll get into that later. I'm sure but you did to be clear because this might be a little confusing. Right white stack sandbags. We all might think oh he was on. Yeah exactly wrong did You were a guest on his podcast a year ago. Yes right and that our one year anniversary. It's exciting yeah. This is our one year anniversary show so that episode one year ago where you're the guests on his show was on our feet for life is short as the first episode for a long time. It's not anymore but that wasn't you interviewing him. That was him interviewing you. Yeah so I remember a Lotta clear. This is the first time you are that. He's on this. Show that we just us. Yeah and at the time. A lot of people were like What's going on? This is just like you're just. It must have been a little confusing people. Maybe not maybe not the best move our part on the feet so long because I think he was confusing because it's was the first one. Oh just I want to check out this podcast. You Click on the first one well and it's you being interviewed. Part of it. Part of it was. We were going to do it back back. And I ended up talking with deck so long a year ago when I went to his. He has a little studio in House that they're building we talk forever and there just wasn't time to do another one so he said. I'll tell you what I'll tell you what we'll just split the on you so So this is it so for those who don't listen to his podcast. A few who don't I wonder if there are any who of that. It's a very popular. Yeah but you also know him from punked from without a paddle we we should maybe give a little context because if you had the and the show bless this mess. That's that's right with like if you haven't seen any accuracy first of all you should. It's a really great comedy. I one of my favorites of that decade. And it's a Mike. Judge movie and DAX is with my Rudolph and Luke Wilson. One of the leads. The movie five hundred years into the future. Imagine a society that has just kind of devolved intellectually and decks Frito we get into that. It's where it's really how I got to know DAX Met Him prior to that. I don't know my memories. Terrible his memories. Great. It's another one of the things. I really admire about him Which will also get into so maybe we should get into it. I would love to take a page out of DAX's play cowboy. Yeah Too late for that I guess but here it is My first technically I interview first time taxes on our show. The hilarious honest sweet. Man's man in a traditional.

"We. We approached the media. We want everyone to know we don't do this. But that's not impact. What happened but it's like are you guys. Are you guys honest with your kids? Yes yeah yeah. We tried to be dead on his all. What are you talking about the and now we just got to answer like what we told them. There isn't a Santa Claus so what happened was with child number one I. Christmas is my favorite holiday. I fucking love it more than anything I start. I start decorating on Thanksgiving. It's my I love it awesome. It's I loved Christmas morning. If I'm dead honest I don't really remember believing in Santa Claus at as I don't remember I never believed in God so but we started with Santa Claus and then our oldest daughter Linkin had some really immediate. Follow up questions like well. How does he get from house to house? Every two smart right and so I told like one lie to cover up the first lie and then I told the third lie and then a certain point I was like I'm ruining the best part of her brain. The part of her brain. That's going vis doesn't make sense. I feel like I have a grasp on reality in this breaks that reality and I'm now making twenty more lies and what I'm fearful I was training her to do was to ignore the part of your brain. That's bullshit dismissed. I don't WanNa fucking do that and I don't want hurts You have the one and it sounds so insignificant and I get it and if I'm on the outside of these Hollywood Fox. They want their kids believe in Santa Claus. That's not yet I I could see I was I was I was squashing. This really great critical thinking that is actually what I want to support and nurture not not nullify so I just felt terrible. I can't because immediately then if they believe in Santa Claus now there's this thing Elf on the shelf so wait this comes out. And he's gone touching now teaching him so much that goes along with it and I'm like walking do this but I realized that moment. Oh man this thing's genius. This is how they get you to get them to deny their critical thinking so you can launch the big one on them. Which is there. Is this man. Jesus Christ and you should live in fear of disappointing him. And if you do you'll burn in hell for eternity that concepts now much. Easier to swallow if you already believe. There's a fat dude that goes down your chimney and if you've already had the people that only the only people you can trust the only go like tell you don't listen to that voice crazy. Yeah I can't really tell you why you're crazy you just are and and then when an adult molest them three years later and the adult says I'm GonNa kill you and your family if you tell you it feels like the other thing. Well that seems implausible. But I should trust him. And that's probably true and I'm not ever GonNa tell it's just like I just pouring the foundation for is something that could potentially really serious consequences down the road and we and it just starts the like erosion of our connection to our guts. You know by the way they'd like Christmas just as much as all of their friends who who thinks has coming. Guess what the FUN fucking part is getting presence in the morning. It's not actually about the guy who delivered them also. Surreal so hung. There's people that I'm part of the war on Christmas. Oh trust me I I got. Hr violation for that but Nightmare it was on. We'll actually I said. Merry Christmas to an intern on Roseanne. As if I was the biggest problem on that set I said Merry Christmas tune in turn just like in passing like I was just leaving and I just Kinda set it and I got in trouble. 'cause I was I'm Jay. I'm supposed to say Happy Holidays. And it was like this whole nightmare. My hunch is that person didn't like you prior to the damages which was wild because then it came out in the news that happened and then all of a sudden like the alright started to love me. I'm like full the face of Cunanan. Now I was thinking it's not really tell what that those opinions that are public that all of a sudden it's like this whole group of people opens up to me that I thought hated me or probably did hate me. I know I defended teacher vase at the emmys or the Golden Globes or whatever. It was this year when he sort of roasted everybody pretty hard. I started defending on twitter and I was like Ben. Shapiro's retweeting it. I was like oh I guess I'm just Hardcore Fox News though. Doesn't it yeah? I didn't think they'd ever like me. If you just defend comedy you're all right now But no I I. I love that. You're saying that especially when I think about myself as a child and how often I was told to not trust my instincts and not Chestnut God I read this. The Gavin de Becker book the Gift of fear which I recommend to everyone all the time because the first thing he says is every woman who's been attacked or you know assaulted a there's always in the testimonies. I just knew something was off about that Guy I. I can't tell you why he offered to help me with my groceries. He offered like I just felt this weird thing but I had this inner monologue of calm down. You know what you're talking about. You're being dramatic. You're making things up which I think started a very young age. Yeah he he's very very tricky. I think Yeah Gavin. I've heard Sam Harris and at one time I totally agree with him But there seems to be a little lack of acknowledgment that people are. Also they're they're Spidey. Senses are triggered by inherited biases. Right so you get an elevator with a black dude. And if you've never lived around black people those spidey senses are going off and that you need to fight that at that time a lack of connection with other people and so a tricky because are his are so cut and dry. That's such a good yes. It's true that they need to be challenged as well. Yeah like it's not racist. Don't use like there's also people that are racist. The the most woke among us has different comfort levels within group. Outgrew if I get into an elevator with four Vietnamese dudes in another language. I have no experience with that. That is new to me. I I part of my brain. My reptilian center is triggered. Things happen and I have to know that about myself as well and I have to as hard as it is to say. This is an as poorly as I'm sure I'M GONNA articulated. I also can't want so badly to be woke that I ignore a feeling so if I get an elevator with a woman and I have a weird feeling about it's like but I'd be sexist if I were to say. This woman was crazy because Ronald I'd say women are crazy anymore. Even though I'm just scared you know there's also. Oh Yeah that thing that I tried to do. I want so badly to get the woke points that I will put myself in danger. Well that's the that's the the the real only take away of all these people that you'll read that I read that we interview. No one wants to hear it and it's the opposite of why people are attracted to trump. Is nothing definitive is a fucking spectrum? And you'RE GONNA have to make a judgment call all the time in life and it sucks and it's exhausting and it is inconvenient but unfortunately it is the truth left left right. Guess what rights correct. A lot of time is right a lot of time I it. We're we're we're juggling two concepts liberty and equality. Those those don't lay on top of each other perfectly. It'll always be a compromise. It will always be some pendulum where you want it the on that day. 'cause that's a bummer. To me left and right the extremes of both of the problem and those people to me are usually if I'm gonNA just go for it on recovered addicts who are in adrenaline and blame. And and it's just it's you know cowboys versus you know I was trying to. I was GONNA.

"No Oh yes yes I hesitate even saying his name but he's a very famous jeweler and he announced to like people that he had sold me and engagement ring for Kristen and I was so pissed and I knew it was coming in like two is. Does he have the same? First name as Kristen's there. No I'll stop the game now. I'll tell you off the beaten but anyways I was like well then I have till tomorrow to now proposed basically or whatever four five more days. This happened another time to talk and ordered. Kristen something for Christmas like in this first week of December and it was some female thing. And that's and I stupidly. Use My real name because my credit card or whatever the hell was her. Christmas present was in the news like a week before Christmas. Yes the person who had bought it from called whoever they call. I don't know how it works but it was all over the Internet that I got in Chris. Kristen this specific gift. There's a bunch of things I have to ask you. And if I don't the listeners are GonNa Freak out 'cause I never well. I went out to my lead to ask about your injury. Oh Yeah Yeah I was. I was off roading and I broke my ham. Well I broke the three of the four Carpools across the top of your hands snap and so then I had to get surgery and they put pins in them. Yeah oh I saw pulling them out. That's right yes talk to that. We're down one pin yet. We I think there are six left in there though. A while and is is the off roading. And the is it still contention with your wife or you guys have just. This is something you have to accept about me. Well what's amazing again and it really? It really tells you something we already know. Which is the helmet. Argument wasn't about the helmet. The music argument wasn't about the music. So I think Christmas falling in love with a guy who had gnarly pass. Certainly one that differed from hers and I think she rightly was terrified to link her train car. This train going is this thing. Is HE GONNA relapse he? He was a sex addict. Maybe like all these things understandably it was really fear and then there are all these other things that that symbolized it to her so weirdly. Enough and Kristen would admit this to Christine was pretty jealous. The first couple of years we were together. She didn't love that. I was friends with Max girlfriends in this kind of stuff and from the day. I asked her to marry me. She's the least Jealous Person I've ever met. She doesn't care how dirty my jokes magic trick it is and I was like. Oh my God it was kind of a leap of faith because I was like. I didn't think I would marry someone. That was jealous. It just wasn't my bag in the past but I just loved her so much and then like a light switch it was gone forever and all this other stuff like she I raised. She doesn't care. I ride motorcycles everywhere. She doesn't care I it's it's interesting it is. It is just sort of this like box that gets checked because look I've been with someone I've been engaged to someone. I've never been married to someone but I do know the moment I got engaged. I didn't care who he followed on instagram. I didn't care who he was texting and I do think you know being in public which everyone is figuring with instagram. Frankly so everyone can relate to that. There's something about telling the world's I'm off the market yeah. I didn't realize how much I needed. Or how helpful? That was you know. Because the thing is like Oh. He can hang out with his axis as long as it's been on his instagram that he's engaged like they know what's up and you know it just was like such relief. Yeah so for whatever reason any you know issue. I had in that regard disavow operated. Oh Dax Shepard thank God for shepherd I feel like he has joined the fight to encourage people to get help. Examine yourself edify yourself be better do better. But I'm busy and I don't have time to go to therapist and I have to get in the car and I have to drive and.

"Back up back up here. We are back up to the bet up alone in a house. Still Benton here. Benton were here. He would also do bet that he doesn't quicker. He doesn't more Nashville. I do it very white trash bat bat but it does say white trash is. I can get cancelled. What no one's getting cancelled during the PEN TEMIC K. Got Bigger fish to FRY right now. All of a sudden no one cares about words. We put a pin in giving a fuck about words so this is GonNa be incredible episode. I'm so happy for you guys that you get to listen to the Great Dax Shepard on the. I just thought that I would do a little Little diddy up top and explain a couple of things because it does vary abruptly because this is my first Remote interview for the good for you pod now that we are in the new normal stop saying that. I hate when people say that. I think it's probably because the new normal was a TV show that I mentioned for like a while ago and didn't get. Maybe that's maybe that's my baggage But now which is like. We only like it because it's an alliteration. It's two ends in a row. The new normal it makes us sound like smart like we're such like monkeys. We are so delighted that we made like we made a little rhyme. Rime the new normal anyway. I'm digressing You know that I've been resistant to doing the remote interviews because the sound quality and the video quality can be very sketchy. I feel like when I'm watching these videos on like that were remotely recorded of two people on their zooms like It's so hard to watch. It's like one is has higher resolution than the other one and I'm looking at people's backgrounds and they're not symmetrical and Mike. Why don't you guys looking in the same spot like someone's looking at themselves? Someone's looking in the camera like it's just like it's I have a flare up. Iva Perfectionism flare up when I'm watching these and to me. They're so distracting. But the Great Dax. Shepard knows what he's doing when it comes to all things best buy all the checks technical things. 'cause I've mostly been doing interviews in person under very controlled neurotic circumstances. I mean you guys know I had on Melissa in your and Taylor Tomlinson. Only because I know that they're neurotic and looping up their bodies every day with Cheryl I know their character and they came in and we were six feet from each other. We had like a measuring. Take stick whatever I need I this. I'm recording this very early guys. I'm sorry my brain is not quite firing yet. Very obvious. Words are evading my brain which has atrophied in quarantine My brain is just out of shape but to me. If someone wants to record the podcast in percent the first thing I do is ask for a photo of their hands. Like if your skin doesn't look like it's flaking off. You're not coming to my house like you should be washing your hands so frequently that your fingertips look like rattlesnake tales. Your fingers better looked like curly. Fries at this point gave they. Don't you're not coming over? I want your palms to resemble an Idaho Spud like. I want a little skin tags. I want nasty raw. There should be skinned dangling off your hands. Your hands should look like feet at this point. Sorry Kristalina is texting me. Ruining my podcast. When he ruin your own podcast he sent me a video anyway I wasn't really prepared to record this. I kind of just wanted to give you guys a little like heads up of what to expect and also say look. I'm I'm trying to do as many as I can. But you know I don't want to set about example and I truly do not want to contribute to the spread of this wild thing. We want to be over as soon as possible. So if you're GONNA come over to my house and record the podcast six feet away. I need a Selfie of your face. First to make sure you've been wearing a mask if you don't have a line of acne around your cheeks on your Chin from steaming up your face without mask. Not You're not recording the pod dude. You should have divots in. Your nose lacerations. In the back of your ears from the stretchy thing the little stretchy elastic thing. That goes around your ears. Your face should look like you fell on a subway. Great if it doesn't you're not wearing your mask frequently enough. You should look like you got hit in the face with a grill. And if you haven't done that you're not recording the pod with me lovers K. Only then only when your face looks like it's been hit with offense. Can you come record the pot in person but I also wanted to the remote thing because You know lot of people have kids and I felt very guilty asking anyone to do. The podcast has kids right now. Because they're all Teachers now all my friends that have kids have been like furiously trying to relearn all the shit that they forgot from grade school like all. My friends are texting me. They're like Columbus Day still or is it called Indigenous Peoples Day. I don't even know they're like what Stawicki arbitrary. I don't fuck it now ask. Jeeves has the Internet but so I posted on instagram. Something I think you guys all voted on it where I said like. Do you guys like watching video. Podcast you like watching zoom podcasts. Like remote podcast. I even bother with them. I hate these index like God damn white night he just reach out to me was like dude. I'll do it. Let's do it. Let's make this happen and he is why I wanted to do sort of the first remote podcast and He was kind thing to do. I don't know just kind like you know we're in a business where everyone's got egos and people can be nasty and people can be competitive and people can have like he. It was just so cool. I don't know it was just a really cool thing to do. Because it kind of ended up dissolving my fear and resentment I was being such a baby about it I was like. I don't want to do an ugly podcast. And what if it has bad audio and I know for me to say that is wild because I have started eating almonds at the end of every podcast so for me to all of a sudden care about audio quality. I realize is definitely hypocritical. Cool too because I loved accident I just. I just hadn't asked him because I know how busy he is. And he has his own like blockbuster. Podcast is that even a thing juggernaut. He's a jogger dot and I guess I just codependency like didn't want to you. Know he could always say no but he was busy as kids. Here's a wife But I was reluctant to ask any parents during the quarantine because I know how busy they are so for him to reach out. Wishes was so cool. And I think you guys are going to enjoy this when it comes to self-awareness psychology rigorous honesty like taxes. Just a black belt and I think you guys all know that listeners podcast but it was just such a breath of fresh air to talk to him to talk to someone during this time. Who wasn't making this pandemic about them. Who was complaining about how hard it is for them. You know I know you guys probably have seen a lot of celebrities who are like acting like this is their being oppressed by this in their mansions and he's just like so. He says he says salt of the Earth. That's what it is and such a freaking human being. It's been really hard to watch celebrities. That aren't DAX like I'm seeing a lot of celebrities like posting on their social media. They're like okay guys. Here's some things to do with your kids to keep busy And they have like a blistering color with them. Play hide and seek and we're like bitch. Most people know what to do with their kids. Most people have to spend time with their kids all the time most people don't have nannies. Most people aren't spending this quarantine trying to figure out how to hang out with their kids. That's something we already like. It's so funny to watch celebrities. Make try to tell non-celebrities like how they're passing the time and all they do is reveal how much help they normally have when not in quarantine people like okay guys. I just figured out a recipe for peanut butter and Jelly. So you put numbers like we baked that every day. What are you talking about? We got it? This is our this is. We always have to make our own food. We always have to babysit her own. Kids Oh God. Celebrities are just. It's too much for me. They really just can't figure it out. Everyone's like yeah. No we're waiting on our stimulus. Check Bitch we got it. Okay God celebrities ad that are like okay. Here's a way to work out in your house so I figured out a way to work out of my house. We work on our house. We already did that. We weren't going to spin class. We weren't paying sixty dollars to ride a bike. We we always worked out inside. They're like okay. So here's a way to stay in shape. Just run around your neighborhood irons. That's what we already did. Sorry I'm digressing I just. I'm really sort of entertained by how ridiculous celebrities vape not tax not tax. So I can't wait to share this with you. I think you guys are just going to enjoy how much of a breath of fresh air He is how down to Earth is social. Just so smart. I mean he just blows my mind like you know. I got to do his podcast and he would. Just it's like church talking to DAX like it's just the best when you're talking to someone who is committed to improving themselves committed to Digging into the deep cobwebs and nooks and crannies of their childhood. Like it's just. It's really cool to talk to somebody who has just committed to edification and has done the work. That's what it is done. The work Couple UPDATES before we get to DAX which again that's GonNa Start. Very abruptly The interview 'cause we started kind of talking and then the audio weird and we had to restart talking so sorry if it's a little discombobulated Okay that's enough for my apology festival. I WANNA give you guys a couple of updates. You guys are asking. I hate it when people do that. I know you guys have been Alana. People have been asking everyone's been asking like I'm sure it's not all of you. I know I hate that. Influence for Shit rescheduled. Dates are coming soon. Check my website. They're getting updated constantly. I don't WanNa be that obnoxious person. Who's just constantly like rescheduled post on my main feed all of my logistical dates. Because most of you don't live in Orlando most of you. Don't live in Pensacola. Most of you don't live in Sacramento. So I'm just.

"Just go no problem dude. That's great no-one can fake that that well. I think that's the true. Yeah it's it's the culture that's been set up. You guys both know what you're entering. You both know that there's a chance at this isn't GonNa Continue. Pass the Water. You know but no girl is ever entering a scenario where they think that might happen. And so then. That's horrible to do to somebody if they don't know what they're getting themselves into but I do know that tender for women has been used as more of a sex site for straight guys and that girls are doing these hookups. Granted they might WANNA cocktail before but they are. They know what they're in for. They're not expecting to get rejected race on their body parts. Regardless of what was out we do agree. Male and females are way more similar than different in. That's been exaggerate. How different they are. I think also this is whether that's societal. And how we raise boys. That's a male female difference. I don't think Lesbians Gay thing. It's not like if lesbians meeting the Foyer and one of them at each other's Vaginas says we're not a match. I think that's still going to be a big issue. Yes pretty heartbreaking issue. I had a guy like Kaiser. Sosie six cents. I saw that all his pictures. All his pictures had sunglasses on and he got to my house at night with sunglasses on and then he went up to my room in the sunglasses. Ron and I'm like oh no glass I it was blind. No he would add. Stick it was you can't I can't I mean it's horrible but yeah like a disfigured oak and asymmetrical okay now. How did the glasses come off? I asked him you ask any slow to any showed you and then say cool. Put them to put a condom on. I got further and then I couldn't and I've I've I've gotten pretty far in stopped. You have stopped when I stopped. Sometimes I go way to further than I ever should have when I knew it was no. Yeah maybe my instincts'll kick in your training your training takeover. I feel bad because I'm like jazz. You should have just done it but I never say that to a straight girl all my God. It'd be like if you didn't want to or even a guy probably. I'd be like don't do that that. You've never said you're better than that. Just want to dome. I did it I did it. I like had this correspondence with Gail over the Internet. And she had sent me a Lotta pitchers in she. I was attracted to what I saw and then she came over to a hotel room I was at and I opened the door and I was like okay. Oh boy for rea- The pictures are at least fifteen years old. But then still her. It was her out of catfish but it. Fuck man you know may be I didn't even really consider that. Those weren't even her at all effort right but it was much much different upon arrival than it looked in the catalog and I was like tough. Shit Buddy. You got yourself into this position in. You're going to have sex with this woman because that's what you've promised her and I did it and I was like God. This is what a lot of women feel like. Sometimes like I'm just going through this and I faked like came and then that was that it was dark. You want to talk about a hangover. I was like this is dark. What are you thinking about that story? I think I for some reason. I'm sorry. I have no sympathy freeze and I do have sympathy for Jess in these situations and I think the differences. I think there's this idea. And maybe it's not true. It's probably not true but there's this idea that like this is the only way gay guys can like meet. Each other is through this so it feels like well. I guess he has to do that. Where I don't feel like that with you. I feel horny and you want to have sex and you got to so good for you. Look she didn't look like she presented herself but pretended to Overton. I you know like for some reason court. I don't think I don't think at any point. Do I think I deserve sympathy over that whole thing. I'm just saying I found myself in a position. I think people find themselves in and I. It wasn't within me to go. Oh I don't think I'd like to anymore right right right. I'd rather do this thing. I did not want to do. That is all so interesting because like I would call that traumatic for a girl absolutely and I don't think it's traumatic for you and I don't traumatic for you. It was dramatic enough for me that I was the next day like you know. Of course you got in that situation. That's the wreckage of your behavior. Like this is how I know. The behavior is questionable because I have wreckage like I got myself in a situation that you know wouldn't have otherwise happened if I wasn't acting kind of adequacy right is only going back to my hotel people. I've had a three hour conversation with at a bar. I'm not shocked when we get into the room. All of a sudden right Okay so our challenge is for one week. That is a lie reason. I felt safe sane to is. I feel like I've already fielded like five people who are trying to set you up with certain people like there's kind of a stable of people that people are trying to set you up with. Isn't there now. Will you win on one date on a secondary that have to be? You could go on a second can initiate this. Because it's she has a week that'd be that'd be really interesting. If you set the date up I'll have to set the date up. I have no choice. Yeah leading as exciting laughing. I wonder what about so many topics on the table. He laughed about all right. Okay so you have to go on to dates in seventy seems on how many in your whole life maybe to. How many days have you been on your whole life? Like five. Probably thought five so few. It's amazing obsessed. I love it so wait so justice can only one that is he still allowed to talk to other all these other people. No I think he should take a week off and I think in days leading up to this day. You should make a list of what you want in. Somebody can't have anything physical. So you gotTa tell all these people you have in rotation eighties taking pills for seven days. Cool cool cool. I'll just be like I get it straight in their in there also there. I'm doing a job fuck it. Let's do it I got it from you. Yeah you can just kick it down the road you can go like. Oh I got fucked you a sick father you could just say I gotta go spend time with my dad and you could kick it all down the road just one week. That's all go. Hey we're supposed to go. Can we get together next? Tuesday I don't know who's harder because yours. I'm petrified of yours in your narrative and your Lens I'm I think mine might be impossible. I forget about mine. I know it's really. It's nothing physical so your list is going to be because I do. Someone are productive. Oh my God whatever your list is. I don't know what your list mine is. Funny Number One or smart funny smart silly shirts. Silly could be one. Do you want to tell the time that we made out or did you tell that already? I think I've said it on here. Sure but yeah I mean in a nutshell In just our first meeting at the groundlings he was saying what a good basketball player he was. And I said why. I'm definitely a better one on one basketball player than you and you go. There's not a chance I would destroy you and I'm like I would definitely be you at one on one and you said all right. Well let's make a wager will play one on one to eleven and if you win I'll give you one hundred dollars and broke. Yeah you were very broken. And if rain on a poor or girl a knew exactly where to zero and then. I win You have to make out with ME WITH TONGUE. Time period like a minute or two minute was nine seconds ten seconds. There's a long time okay. And we were in backstage at the groundlings. So there's plenty of people that's a lot of witnesses and you said. Fuck Ya and you shook my hand and almost heard it okay. As I walked away it was reveal smile. Like the joker like he doesn't even know what he's in for and I did it so we get to the outdoor court. You destroyed me. I WanNa say it was like eleven to two. Then you said you got mad okay. Three three so we play the second game. Eleven to five and then I don't even think it was that high but then another eleven to two so three games to eleven cry. We made out. Yeah there was someone else there. Caitlin was there. Yeah Caitlyn's there was safe for him right beach. Yup It would have felt different for me. I think if it was in your bedroom together I would like to my reason why you want to tell people about when we basically made out when you swallowed my Lubi. Oh Yeah Yeah. I think we talked about on the other show but yes we were driving to the podcast and it was in the morning and I needed a sip of something I saw. You had a Perry in your cup-holder so I went and I just started chugging in you panicked. Don't drink that in. My first thought was others alcohol in it. She's protecting me from relapsing. Allow Monica Drinks. You know in the in the morning and you morning In Perry we argued about this this weekend for quite a while acid. I had zero judgment of that. I was like okay. I mean she's on time every day she's sharp as hell. There's no wreckage or fucking on manageability about this. We were arguing. Because he said I'd be like okay. That's okay she clearly as our shit together and I was like no if you taste alcohol. I've poured into a small tiny perrier that I'm drinking in the morning in secret. I want you to be concerned about that. Well Look I think ninety nine times out of one hundred that is definitely a red flag that the person has a big problem. Yeah now I have spent nearly every day with you over the last six years and I can see. You don't have any wreckage or unmanaged ability in your life so I would have to say this is interesting. This is like Seth Rogan who smokes weed all day but as productive and a great husband. Who Am I to say that that is inherently wrong if there are down stream problems as a result of your your area with vodka? And then I'm going to be very concerned about. You WanNa talk to you about anyways. Is You know just because she had lougee Harry several times and I just drank her her spit in. That's why she panicked and also it goes to say what I guess my fantasy of you is is because you lou gain in that can the way I do like fucking hillbilly was completely off the table. Drinking was far more on the table. You driving around like I was back. That was that was outside of the realm of possibility. Words makes me like you more because I wish you cleared your throat like an ox like I do all the time and had Flemish us. In the morning I'd like to hear you clear out that carbon sometimes we love gross things as loved my Doodad. Oh we're going to talk about your Doodad on here. That's a cliffhanger for the restaurant agree that deserves a three episode arc because it was a three month long dom you guys say so many nice things about all of your friends and from one of the outsiders that listened to all the time all of us friends want to say how much we love you and that we we think the same things about you and we love smiling and hearing you guys talk about all of this because we feel like we're in the living room and I love us and just wanted to say that to me to Monica. Loves boys just loves boys and I love both of them so stay tuned for the exciting results of this challenge. It's so funny because I think for most people listening. It's preposterous that either. San's Howard Amelie's for man. It's like yeah you're going on Tuesday and then Saturday big deal and you really just one day. Two Week jail honestly. I would have to cancel tonight. Happy Hour I was having a guy. I can't have sex. No get it. You should take the time you were going to be fogging to make your list of things of what you WanNa partner got it all right. I Love Guy..

"But when you put a picture up from fifteen years ago fifteen okay and I did have a three months ago. I left the guy's house and it was really hot. We had sex two weeks later. I go you WANNA hang out again. He's like oh I might hook up like a threesome. I don't think I want to do one on one if you get a hot guy. I'll join you guys. You need to update your pictures like it was the worst and best thing and it went through my veins because I've been on plenty of dates lately in real dates where the guy was like in not really match your a little aggressive for me and I was like cool. I love that about myself. I think I'm aggressive and I'm a lot and I ordered eighteen appetizers and I it really fast and I'm just that's me and I didn't it in battle and I am like cool. Good luck with everything but when he said update your pictures Triggered Your Dark. It was just awful and great and I smile I go yeah. I probably should do that. And then blocked off. It's this is so layered on layered so sometimes might trigger with you is that it's A. It's a blanket statement. It's just you should do this and other so much more underneath it like you said we're the river starts where it ends you know and why we're doing this and that's why this is so exciting and nerve wracking for and I think it's going to be Really cool but again as your friend. If I saw that you were trying to regularly compete in the Gay Olympics as a sprinter I would say to you. I don't understand why you're trying to compete with sprinters when you're a phenomenal basketball player. That's won three gold medals in the Olympics. Which you have but this is one gay Goldman. I have gay Goldman Gail. I'm no there's nothing gay about. They're pretty. I'm saying that there are a thousand guys ally. Maybe a hundred thousand guys in L. A. That have better bodies than you. Why on Earth is that? What you'RE GONNA fucking compete on. Its own because you stupid. Because that's why lure people to these dates and I do do well on these dates because that's my thing but to get them on the dates unique. Now those guys to get those guys you do need to have those guys my pictures. Aren't that bad. And I've their current ones. I'm so embarrassed. Plenty of guys. I'm going multiple dates with plenty of guys. I'm having sex with multiple times with those pictures being fine but just your your stomach getting red. You're missing the point. I know starting the day one thing and you get a buyer that's in the market for that thing and that's fine you're right those guys do. WanNa fuck the version of You. That the got the lowest body percentage fat. There's no argument there. I totally agree with you but I would suggest that the person you're going to end up growing old with on on a fucking swinging chair. That's not what they're going to be in the market for. They're going to be me. Meaning Kristen Insane. That personality must be with that personality on a fucking rocking chair. And so I'm not expecting any more of one of these guys than what I did. I think is the least interesting thing about you. While doubt anyone to be honest. We'll know some people have shitty personalities and there are they're not brighter. Funnier fun to be around. And maybe their bodies the best thing about them and those people should live in the gym and they should sell that product. Yeah but you're you're thing you you by the way you can be in great shape. I'm not telling you not to be in great shape or that not to be an aspect of you but I definitely think it will always be the last most interesting thing about you in the least among many reasons that someone would want to spend their life with you but as you said we're trapped in we want the thing we don't think we are and in theory. I love those things you're saying and I hundred percent would in a perfect world want that you also in all fairness it's just an experiment. You've never tried. What what were we on when you set them at heaviest point? Was it all fallbrook? If you took your worst pitcher from Walbrook it's next to Monica. Were my stoop pitcher. My huge stomach coming out and in a comment said suck it in Jess was one of my county friend said Who also felt very insecure about their appearance. And so what I'm saying is what we know for. Sure I could be dead wrong. You could be dead right. That'd be great. You've never tried that experiment. You never lead with the worst physical version of yourself fallbrook and then we're GONNA call it. Fallbrook fallbrook physique and seen who wants to go out to dinner with you and then when you get to that dinner they're like Oh my God. This guy's so much thinner in real life that's cool. He's over delivering already in. You're like fuck. I got a lot of latitude now because he he went on a date with the fallbrook. I'm free to be me. We just haven't had that experiment. You've never gone on dates with guys who wanted to go on a date with you. After seeing Fallbrook we just don't know so it's all theoretical and it's all narrow down challenge. Okay so as I said. We'RE GOING TO BE CHALLENGES. Just tonight the end of each episode and then at the beginning of each episode we will reconvene about those challenges and how they went and all of that and at the end of this episode will start with. Dax giving us a challenge. Now I mean I'm inclined right off the cuff to say because I think you guys have such opposite approaches Switch bodies well basically like I'd like to see Monica going to dates in the next week to fucking and I'd like you to only go on one date and I would like four set up. I would like for year four said I do. I would like for you just to make a list of what you want. The guy to be in a can include anything physical. Okay so I am in about five or six guys in rotation right now so this should be a new person. Yeah you gotta go out with a new person. It's not like a monster turn. Oh man well look. Dan Savage talked about. This is not a secret that gay guys can have sex a lot. More ice straight guys in Dan savage's takeaway which we loved was make the world safer for women and they'll WANNA have sex is much because they want to they're just afraid of slut shaming in danger to them. So what we get to see with guys is where both parties feel very safe right and Horny as hell and so you can fuck more and then there's there's apps even I think this is relevant before we get into how your dates go. I think people need a precursor something. Monica and I were absolutely fascinated by and loved. Is that some of the cultural norms in grinder. Dating is someone may come over in. They may step into your house so this is my truth. Yeah the lead-up is great. There's a lot of sexting we're in a forty minute spans. How long's it take you to get there? Sometimes I'll GPS. How far they are away. They're driving over. I'm getting ready. Douching makes sure my. Oh my God. I'm making sure that Everything's set up. I'm definitely clean up my room bit. I throw a lot of the stuff in the closet then. I'm downstairs then. I'm downstairs pacing checking my breath. Then I'm tech seem a little bit. They're pulling up. I just I get a lot of just parked then my pussy quivers a little bit for the just. Yeah P Q for just parked. I meet them halfway through my courtyard so I want to see a good lighting and I I wanNA see a walk. I WanNa see if he's bringing it. Why backpack like so get right? You live what car. They're driving down because I do so. They're walking up. That's telling their size me up. I'm sizing them up. They get into the foyer sizing up. Hey how you doing good man. How was the drive now too? Far Awesome. Do you want a water now. I have bottled water now. Sometimes they WANNA water a lot of times. They're like no. I just had one. I had one in the car. Ah Holding one just then we just flew start making out right then there's grabbing there's touching. I'm going down to because I get Dick. Pics often pictured my parents say this. I'm feeling for quality of life. I'm feeling to see if this is all going to chop I feel all that making out making out little. Grab I Mike. I'm down. He's like yeah. You WanNa go upstairs and then other times. Yes and other times. I'm not feeling it. And he goes I get it man and they quickly put their clothes back on the grabbed the shirt. Nice meeting you very jovial. Nice very like this has happened a million times. We're used to this and that has happened to me right now on the flip side again just not to put too fine. Appoint on it. But it's generally like if you say I don't think it's a match. It's a pretty immediately after you've seen their penis right you don't want to say yes but yes yeah. Yeah Yeah and so what I find amazing and so different from my experience hooking up with women is if I were to ever look at a woman's Vagina and then immediately stand up. We're not a match. I have to assume that woman would start crying. Yeah and it would be a very emotional ride for the next few hours with us. You'd be you'd be I'd be over and just that right. There tells me this is fascinating as an anthropologist. This is a completely different courting cultures again. Not We're not saying all gay guys do this in your either culture. You're emerged in is dramatically different than the one I was and I find that fascinating I love it if zero judgment of it. It's just completely different and I think it's very interesting. That geyser like yeah cool I get it but I do like about it. Is that for me? I don't think about it afterwards. If these people were leaving and I was like I shouldn't have done that. I feel bad about myself was I mean to him. I have none of that either. That makes me sociopath or it's just transactional no I really do think it is transactional. And I've never ever had a really bad experience as far as violence or scary or robberies. Which is what most people would think about. You have so many people coming to your house your actual house. Yeah that's a liability or what I what I think the truth is in. You know what the responses of they..

"It's maddening to me. It breaks my heart. I could start crying that neither of you understand how attractive you are in the deepest deepest deepest way and in different ways. But it's the same. And it's heartbreaking. See that about jazz. I see that about Monica intense. You're right it's intense and it almost makes me angry. It's all the narrative. I didn't start dating until this guy's in the Geico this way Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah. People don't like to its doors as I set my thing so high. I'M GONNA self fulfilling prophecy. I'm this guy's never going to like me. It is maddening. It is interesting that this is happening. Because I've seen that a million times when we're talking I just WanNa Kinda shake you hurt you. Two hundred thirty s digest is the tall front wheel. Referendum six five to qualify. As a freak I think scientific term is a freak. You're the barometer of all things tall in our life like if we see a giraffe they go. I think that's too Jessica Yu your synonymous with tall. I will say one thing though. I think we are insecure in conceded. Bodies there's a part of us. That are very confident. And there's a juxtaposition that is interesting because we don't well. There's a difference between confidence and self esteem. Yes you guys are both confident. You're both smart enough to know that you can't pursue comedy and be insecure on stage. It will not work. You're both smart enough to have recognized that you're Monica. Are Smart enough to know that you have to walk into a audition exude confidence and shake the person's hand and look in their eyes and be self assured but that doesn't mean that you go home and look in the mirror and go of course that Guy. I like would like me back to completely different things. Yes and then my complain about you which we this is where it always gets heated between you and I is urine absolute Unicorn and then you're trying to play a game that is just pedestrian for everyone. And it's so frustrating to me and you'll say in the gay community people are more aesthetic Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah. I know all the reasons but in my mind you just said it. You don't fuck when you're not in the shape you want to be in and you fuck a lot when you're in shape and the least the least it's a hundred on the list of I was listening things about Jesse even when you're at your peak. Physical fitness knows telling a friend of mine about jess or on this podcast. I've talked about you. Eleven hundred times never once have I mentioned. You're in good shape. I don't give a flying fuck. It is the least interesting thing about you. It's magical thing about you know one that knows you loves. You would even list how you physically look in a list. It's like me thinking people like me because I'm a good driver right but someone that has been known as the Funny Guy and that is fun around parties or make us laugh. Do this joke chess or be this thing you want so you don't have to be hot. I want to feel like me to offer exactly. I have always since I was young. His been about sing that song. Be The gesture and I'm not poor me. I love that part of the two but I want to be touched. I WANNA be like dude. That guy's lips are amazing. That guy's hair. I WANNA run my hands through his hair. I WanNa grab his hand and like everything. I want is physical. Yes I have the exact same thing. We've talked many times on here at the. I would want for someone to say after they met me in order. He's hot but it's maddening when you say it. I'm so sorry I love you so much but when I first met you that is all I thought you wanted this tight wife beater with your tax refund and you were just like we walked out and saw was Hannah's fuck. We walked down. He got on your motorcycle teacher and she was head over heels. And I'm like sicome I love him. Can I can use them and she was going for you hard. I'll never forget it. The difference is I believe in your insecurity because I know you well but your insecurity in that way has not stopped. I was about to go down that path. Which is now. Here's where I'll grant both of you. There's a difference here you weren't being you in high school so you weren't having the experimental phases. I was where I was very insecure ninth and tenth grade. I think I look like a monster and it was too skinny and I fucking acnes. It's round my mouth. I had braces. Okay and then I had a perm on top and then long straight hair and back. And I didn't have the fucking Jordan's and all the Zeke averages everyone had all listlessly but I was able to experiment and just try saying hi to a girl and being very confident and trying to not even though he didn't believe it in the moment trying on a character where I was confident in a grant. You didn't have that. I can't expect you do have done what I did. Which was okay. I'm not betting on my looks. That's off the table. I don't feel good about my looks. I have but I can make people love me with my personality and I got to experiment with that and it worked and then I'll also say to you. It's not it's not the same for you either. It's not fair to you Monica. Because in general guys aren't going to date a girl based on her personality. I so even in the depths of your insecurity I agree that it's more challenging for you to go but I'm just going to be the smartest best funniest girl in the world in the Jackson. Don't WanNa date me anyways so I recognize that both dynamics are different. I was able to find a confidence based on my personality. Where I believe I could land any girl. I was lucky enough to be straight white male in High School where I could experiment that you really couldn't you really Kinda so those? Are The handicaps true? I don't know if she doesn't think she's hot. I think she i. I'm just saying I if I can be a little bit honest. I think you think you're a little better than everyone in. Oh okay I I'm I'm just saying maybe it came up with royal but I think it's more specifically you think I want the best one and the best ones aren't going to like me. Yeah that's what I mean and a nutshell. Yeah definitely don't think you're better than people in life. That's not what I meant. I think I know what you mean in that. I do think there are a lot of people that I'm not attracted to this and that's not even I think I know that from life and experience. Maybe this has been another learned pattern of like. I'm just GONNA turn that par off you know. I used to as every girl did and we went into like a party. Like you're picking like who's the one I'm GonNa like it. This party did so many times. And then you know that. Get so exhausting. When nothing comes to fruition and things are coming for for everyone else that you turned things off but again you were. You were at one point. You admit picking guys strategically out of your league. So there'd be no expectations. Yes yes I saw that conclusion. Yeah and so I think when you do that you do shut off your radar for the guys that would like you and you know they don't try to find your way in. This is where this is where just is right. I do feel like you deserve the best I do. I think that's a great thing. I thought there shouldn't be an out of my league. Do then feel like there is. We.

"It's also relevant to say that you guys Youtube Jessen. Monica live a block from each other. Which is fun and you guys often a couple of nights a week. Go to happy hour gone tonight right after this. Yeah so you two are like girlfriends you guys go out to happy hour and you talk about guys and relationships and all this kind of stuff in life share back but I'm GONNA have to be pc here and say it doesn't have to be girlfriends guy and a girl can talk about these types of things. Oh yeah but I would describe. Penon is girlfriends again. That's that's a stereotype of the way. Go the reality. Even them both. Dr Wendy Mogul and Dr. Alex will say guys. Don't look to look at each other in the eyes. Talk like if you have a son used to take him on a walk or play basketball. Have been trained. Yes so that's just the reality of the world. We live in hopefully will train boys differently but currently it's rare for two guys to go out and look at each other across the table. I like to do that. Yeah I like that. Yeah but I was also raised by a woman and I you know whatever I don't I know that what I'm doing is in the most common thing share. But I'd like to make way more common and I think labeling it as girlfriend talk is getting closer to that but understand okay because you don't want to be girls another thing that why do they always you guys go to happy hour all the time and you really have fun and you can have like. Would you have wine sometimes? Sometimes roll the dice roll. I'll tell you about roller dies. Basically it's picture on Spirit. You pick your own spirit and they can choose your own adventure so you could get something in a goblet. That's creamy you can get something on the rocks. More of like an old fashioned. You can get a mule that's gonNA come with like ginger and they walk to you. And then they describe it this penicillin. It has honey bourbon and then they they build it for you but every single roll the dice. They have to walk over and describe it. As you're GONNA WANNA facetime surprise surprise going so long goblet red velvet the name. We'll know what's in it. We know all the servers. I actually bring a lot of dates there too. So now they're like thumbs up thumbs down. Like a Lotta I. Eight are there because a block away from my bed. Yes I guess. Going back to the girlfriends. Yeah I think the reason to. I went there as it for me. Who's jealous of you guys being single and getting to go out at night for happy hour and being Jealous that you guys can drink and I lost that right to me. It sounds like sex in the city. Like you guys meeting up for COSMOPOLITANS and talking. That's I think where I get jealous. Okay now Monica you For the people who've heard it the Denver live show. We kinda got into your history with boys touch. Well we know there was the junior high that you liked and at the swimming pool. He said he liked. He can't be with you because your parents worked at dairy queen. Yes that was a big bad moment and I would argue a pivotal moment for you. Oh it was a watershed moment for sure. It was it was. It just confirmed all the things. I was afraid we're true but was hoping that it wasn't true you're like I'm blending in this is working. They're not aware of the fact that exactly. And then he just fucking crushed all those slam dunk. T- did very upset about that story. But you know what? If it wasn't that story it would have been another story. It would have been something else to confirm. The thing I was afraid was true because it was true but my long day it was true. My parents do not work dairy queen. No they don't do but and I'm sure it would be hard for you to have any empathy for him but I also imagine he liked you and he starts thinking wolf. I'm with her then. I'm going to be like people are going to say. Only her parents worked at dairy queen. So he too is operating now this fear he got caught in that freer right. He obviously was afraid but that of course I can be empathetic to a point. I mean sympathetic to a point robbery of that. Like let me ask you because you were already nervous about being other. Yeah if you had taken a liking to the one Vietnamese guy in your school. Do you think you would have gone fucked? I like him but I don't need another thing. I don't need to be the Indian girl dating the one Vietnamese Guy. Of course anything that might have happened to you. I guess that's what I mean about didn't happen because my self loathing was so strong. I'm prefacing this is a horrible horrible thing. That's true but I would never have been attracted to someone who wasn't what ideas higher status than me. The group you wanted to be in. Yeah so I would never fallen in love with the Vietnamese guy at that age. You don't think what if you were seated next Vietnamese guy and he started telling you about how much he loved goodwill hunting and then he watches the movie on his eyelids. Like you would have been like. Oh my God now perfect but there's no way I would honestly I would have thought Ono. This must be something that others do. Jesus and now I got pick a new movie and it's it can't be that and I can't tell anyone that I liked that movie right so but it's horrible. It's horrible but it's long been my theory and I've said it to you many times and set it on here many times and witnessed it in real life. I think post the Swim Party. You Miss when people are hot for you like really goes over your head. I've observed it you shaking your head. No I have observed. I was vindicated improving. Right one time yes. I don't know how on earth you could still pretend that he wasn't attracted to you when you guys went on dates and made out and I don't think he was attracted to me like the party's was. I don't think people go on dates with people. They weren't attracted to the party is a lot of options. He has all the options. Also when you go to a party I'm scanning eighteen people are attracted to and then I go on with the party like you know what I'm saying. I already know that people I would have sex with but I will not. You could have been scanned without you knowing that you're hot and the Nice Bubis and beautiful face and then move on and maybe just because it wasn't showing a lot of attention to me it's already clocked and also say she has terrible muscle memory of basically the last time. She acknowledged. Someone had those feelings. Because you did know that boy liked you. Which is why you said your friend. Yeah we were flirting. We liked each other. Yes well that's why it was so painful is it felt like Oh. I'm never going to be able to have the thing. I want this thing. I can't control I- delinked that to the rest of my life. I for my own clarification when that happened. Did you think to yourself? Oh he didn't really like me at all or did you think Oh. He likes me but he can't be with me because I'm other okay. So you did accept that he liked. You did okay good. But here's the thing you're out-voted your hot. Yeah you've a fucking rocking but dudes get Boehner's looking at you. That is a fact. That's just a fact gases thinking well he's trying to move and getting a boner look. I think they think but I don't think in this day and age now. People are heavily flirting coming up like it is so much more nuance now like in the eighties. Guys would be groping at the grocery store and warrant was were. You just went on a date. I mean talk about that but you was three hours and it was nice and I go. Did he flirt with you? And you're like I don't know but they're wise. It's just this more hipster nine hundred to two thousand nineteen nine thousand nine hundred. I'm not a little bit taking a step back and it's not going to be like Nice tits like you're saying like when bringing I came out of the river there in Austin. The Guy said you got all the right shit. No one's really. I don't know that many people are saying that anymore after the dairy queen. How long did you shut down to? Did you know you shut down? Okay so yes. That's a great question by all mine. A no no. Have you ever been jealous of our friendship? No really happy for your friendship. Okay because I I really thought both of you need each other a lot. Because she is the ultimate rule follower. You're the ultimate rule breaker He knows how to have fun. He knows how to be carefree and not over think stuff like ICS guys is being very beneficial for each other. I've always thought I was so grateful when you guys met that you hit it off really quick and I was like. This is exactly each other needs nice. What at the end of this podcast guys fucking on the towel sometimes are Monica laughs. At my jokes I secretly hope that you think I shouldn't laugh at mind like that. We'll all well we know we've had that she can watch you. Go fudgy space in the world and lab and say just do it again and if I go like four cool she's already throwing you know and I'm so jealous here at her brother. That's still not her brother yet. I'm her little brother okay. Sorry shutdown yes so I kind of shut down but I don't think I knew I shut down and really what happened is I thought that I was just picking people I liked and I couldn't have them like I would pick Richard Cardi. He was a senior. Who was he a junior? Whatever he was he was older than me. But how many grades? I think to okay acceptable. He was on the football team and he was so cute. And I would like draw pitchers about Richard Accardi in Monaco. Cardi and Mrs Accardi like I would do all of that. My friends and I would like make each other pitchers and then trade them in the hallway about the people we liked and stuff. The thing is like we would do that but my person was always fantasy. I was Never GonNa be with Richard Cardi. He didn't know me I was a stranger to him. And my other friends would pick people who they would fantasize about. And they would write Mrs Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah. But they would date those people. Okay but really quick. Is it possible? They were setting more realistic expectations. And you're yes. I think that's what was happening. Is I was picking people subconsciously. That was going to confirm this again idea. I had like Monty with you. Yeah Yeah I think so too and I do the same thing with these guys at the gym or these straight people or yeah yeah. It's a very years well. And here's the part where all just jumped towards the end which.

"I want them to be able to hold their own at a White House and a bath house like I want them to be able to be cool in public that I can meet my friends and also be a beast in bed through really having. You're having a lot of sex. Yes not as much as I used to. I mean there was a time where I came out of thirty. I was twenty eight guys a week on. Let's just do the math on that twenty guy? Yeah so seven times three would be twenty one times four would be twenty eight thousand four. Sometimes for seven in one day was my all okay race along time ago folks through phases of this. It'll never go away. It's streaky. There was a there was a period where you didn't talk for almost a year right or all these. I was fat. There you go. Yeah but it is streaky. It's like there's a lot and then there's none and then there's a lot and there's not unlike look I'll say it just. Has this incredible relationship with drugs and alcohol which. I couldn't maintain that you can party really hard. But you don't have the frequency right but you can go hard. I think heart is what you did. I've seen hard in some people's world and Monica's world. I can go hard right. Yes but not in a hard that I've seen in this community slash hard for me is going three days. Yeah but I can go three or four days a week a lot right right. I think what you're actually doing your be protective of the conclusion maybe a little bit disc- explain like there's this fax like you're you're streaky. Okay because sometimes you don't fuck a lot. Sometimes you forget right. That's just a fact. Yeah Yeah Yeah but you're nervous. You're trying to protect whether the conclusion of that is your attic or not inadequate. Maybe I shouldn't even say the word act. No it's just like the facts are I've known you for nineteen years sometimes ton. Yeah and then. Sometimes you're not fucking for what feels to me like a year right. Yeah you got to kind of take in those things and not try to adjust what it means. Maybe I've never been single for this long. So they're starting. So the last one was greg and that ended for years ago and the boyfriends are for that everyone just landed in my lap and I thought this was easy so for the last four years have been interesting for me that it's just not happening. I thought that was something that just happens. Did you meet any of the three? And I'M GONNA limit it to to personally just because I've met the eighteen year old right. That was three months. And that was actually. I needed that so much. That was so exciting and he'd been out seven years and I was only out sexually five years as much as the age difference was different. He was an amazing lesson in holding hands and writing notes and like being in love and bill. Yeah and going to Laker Games and giving to the flowers like I needed that at thirty five years old. I didn't have that like at sixteen years old. Like most people do have problems. Yeah so I love that relationship but but the two that I'm familiar with. Did you meet either of them online? Both everyone online. I met Tim on Grindr and I met Greg on tinder grinder. Tinder in tender is more dating. Yeah okay but it's the same people and that's what I'm seeing now. It's just showing whatever inside of themselves in different pictures and nicer. Bio's yeah but I love seeing that. They're both because I'm on both and I'm trying to pit each other against each other sex or dating well and they're all doing that and I was wondering when you see that somebody says there are only in it for dating. Do you mmediately assume other bad in bed. Sometimes because I feel like that's what I would think they're not. They're just interested in dating because they probably know that there's a high probability that they're going to enter these situations where sex is going to be first on the table and they are like no. I don't WanNa do that anymore. Well Rea- and I think there's a lot of guys like that but I also think even if you're gay you're GonNa follow into a stereotype of like wait. I WanNa fuck all the time. And he's dude he should WANNA fuck all the time he doesn't WanNa fuck all the time. Why doesn't he want to fuck all the time? That's suspicious like you just like something stinks because there's stereotypes of men in general. That aren't true that we've decided are true. They're not for everyone at all times. I didn't have sex with my last till five or six states in. I think that's why I worked. In a way there is something to be said for you know. Cherries in answers. Cherries and the juice or waiting for the cherries in this guy for the Gander. Excuse Save the saying. Leave them leave. Leave something leave. Some leaves the money on the table. Yes you can get it later. I don't know you guys I'm onto something out saying. Don't give milk the cow you. You're not going to buy the cow. You're getting the milk for free. Kate Hudson and Dax Shepard Revisit Their Former Whirlwind Romance — and Why They Broke Up
"Dax Shepard has podcast arm chair expert with pod with dax Shepard under expert with podcast yes it's actually a good pocket is a lot of time here welcome to Kate Hudson and her brother Oliver to his podcast and they talked about how the dax Shepard and Kate Hudson dated back in two thousand seven it's really funny I do remember it now okay it was a short lived romance yes they split after just a few months but they were looking back on their time together and they said that it started as a joke so they first met in the backyard of Tobey Maguire's house this is like how small famous Hollywood as right and yeah so you probably dated everyone it's like the island of Manhattan everybody everybody that everyone right they immediately headed off but they were both in other relationships so when they met Kate Hudson was married to Chris Robinson and dax Shepard was dating brie Morrison and Kate said we were in a totally different place and she said I wasn't plotting anything but I certainly wanted your approval and if you thought I was cute all the batter then they reconnected at a real at a restaurant in Malibu shortly after Kate Hudson ended her relationship with when Wilson and they decided to mess around with the paparazzi who were waiting outside so it started as a joke they said when this be funny if we came out holding hands and I was your new boyfriend all my I could we were just this happening yeah they were friends so they said and then we added is what doc shepherd said wouldn't it be great of her new boyfriend didn't wear a shirt at Nobu of course they were never now but just FY I if you are ever in Malibu get away to get into noble it is every celebrity every celebrity that's because you were like guaranteed to have a celebrity sighting in over and you have some really great food and so she said that she thought it was so funny and she said that then doc said he was acting matter the paparazzi that they were invading our privacy and then it just somehow led to hanging out and then Kate Hudson's jokingly said that I wanted to have sex with him it was like the perfect of my gosh and they said they laughed a lot when they were together at the at super compatible personalities and he credited their romance with helping him communicate better because they had a lot of fights and he was monogamous for the first time in fifteen years with her and he said ultimately though they just parted ways and they said it was mutual ask and they were just in very different places and their lives she seems like she already had a child at that point I'm sure that's what it was
Our Company Has Problems
"Back. In two thousand fourteen I laid out the premise of what I was doing. I was trying to start a business while simultaneously telling the story of starting a business in a podcast and it was going to focus on all the little details onto what kinds of shoes I was. GonNa wear to my first ever investor meeting my wife. Nazanin House need didn't like the shoes I'd chosen. They're fine. They're just there'd be a higher chance that he's GonNa give you money if you're not wearing running shoes dining that's through these he's meal issues that I can wear that my feet don't hurt. I ended up wearing those durkee shoes to the pitch was not successful not surprisingly and I kept recording recorded difficult Goshi with my co-founder tense confrontations with my wife other pitches to investors. I thought I was making a six to eight episode mini series but it turned out. I was launching. I showed that would continue for many years and we document all kinds of milestones in the history of this new company that I was making for example recorded the moment I partnered partner with my co founder Matt so the final thing to discuss which we had put on the agenda for last time style up our conversation of where we see this relationship going yeah checking in on a recorded choosing a name for the company Gimblett what sure easy to spell like madmen sexy. I'm okay documented undocumented the moment my wife Nazanin in the beginning worked as a TV producer eventually joined me in Matt to help run GIMBLETT. We're going to work together. Look look at US going a New York living the dream. Yeah Okay it's S. and over time the PODCAST. I'd accidentally started did branched out into new territory. We hired a new host from Gimblett media startup. I'm Lisa Chow any big success requires looking failure in the and Lisa started following other founders launching their own companies to women who rushed a dating APP several friends from college who actually meaning to started the billion dollar streaming company company twitch and most recently she told the story of Eva Moskowitz the controversial founder of Success Academy one of the fastest growing education startups in the world and we continue to follow it what was going on here. Gimblett the growth of our company from our first few employees through our twentieth or fiftieth and eventually our hundredth we documented our attempts to increase diversity diversity to decrease burnout and manage the chaos that inevitably comes with running a fast growing startup and here. I am now five years after that. I started episode dropped to document a bold new chapter and give them a history spotify. I'm a big user. Dave big user no call we are as well this is footage from the CNBC program squawk on the street dip so that aired February sixth twenty one thousand nine hundred the host. Jim Cramer and David Faber are about to welcome guest to the program this morning and this is big special exclusive interview from quite excited about this spotify scope boundaries Daniel Daniel. I've got an issue right right up front broadcast. I understand they are red hot and what we want is agriculture. I didn't think that a music company would do it but I do think that an audio audio company would do it and that's what this is about as an yeah. It's it's really about expanding our mission from just being about music to being about all audio and being being the world's leading audio platform and the thing that they're talking about here. The reason Daniela showed up at squawk on the street to talk to Jim Cramer and David Faber is because of an announcement inch that had just come out that morning spotify was acquiring to podcast companies hundreds of millions of dollars podcasting technology company called anchor at podcasting content company based in Brooklyn called Gimblett in this season of start up the final season and we're going to wrap up the story that we started over five years ago and I can't imagine a better final chapter than the one. We're about to tell you for the next several episodes. We're GONNA share with you. What an acquisition looks like from the inside and the first season I learned that starting a company is a very emotional experience what I didn't know then is that selling one that's pretty emotional and just a quick warning here at the top there is some swearing in this episode through down the left hand side his revenue split out by show or property so that so just the B. B. Through this tape from a meeting in late March of two thousand eighteen almost a full year before spotify's announcement on NBC that they had acquired Gimblett back back during this meeting the idea that a year from now we'll be selling our company is really hard to imagine row forty. One is the prophet line. The voice you hear is Jim Grau our VP of finance he's walking a few of us on the company's leadership team me not seen and Matt through the numbers for the year and the numbers they're not great what burn rate projected burn rate for the air. Yes if you will to burn rate in other words how much more we spending than we were making alter now. Spending more than we made was always part of the plan. That's what most startups do early on and just nine months earlier. We had reached a big round of funding fifteen million dollars. The the plan was to invest a lot of that into making more shows hiring more people. We wanted that big chunk of money to last for a while two and a half years meaning. We wanted to burn about about six million a year but this meaning. Jim is telling us that right now and early two thousand eighteen. It's looking like we're going to burn a lot more than that. So something like probably ten million eleven million million. A month is probably a where we're headed towards. If we don't uh change some things in other words we keep going the way we're going by the end of the year almost that entire investment we just got James. We'll be gone and that's because a lot of the things we assumed would happen. Didn't we assumed audiences would grow but instead they plateaued are launches had not done as well as they had in the past and some of our biggest shows with the largest audiences still weren't making money because we couldn't sell ads on them shows like science versus. The last season was very sold out this. This season is not super sold so what's wins empty spots how threat in terms of how many sponsor consoled a what's the percentage. What's the what's the sell through rates over ten percent fifteen percent ten percents old. That's a little bit. That's counting the next season to probably like twenty twenty to twenty five percents old. Why is it that that it cabinet bed bad because if we can't make money on our biggest shows what does that mean for the rest of the company because the fact is Gimblett specialty specialty up until this point our business model basically had been to make kind of podcast costs a lot of money. I kinda requires big reporting trips large teams of four or five five producers and editors and engineers. The kind of show had a proven track record for example this American Life Cereal Radio Lab. They're all that kind of podcast and that Kinda show for the first couple couple of years Gimblett. It worked for us but at the time of this meeting for years into the company there was another kind of show that was getting more and more popular a kind of show that wasn't what we specialized. Stan shows like pod save America and my favorite murder the DAX shepard podcast these shows rely on a charismatic oast connecting with fans and they're much cheaper it to produce and the audiences for these shows are huge way bigger than the audience for any Gimblett podcast these shows we never mentioned them by name during this this meetings but they lurk behind everywhere the conversation because of what their success seems to suggest for US business that maybe we are spending a lot of money making in something that people don't want anymore to me in particular. That was a scary thought if if it ends up being that we can't make there's no business camel to support like good programming. That fucking sucks yeah. We're in this world that prioritizes like cheap you know cheap mass market and and like we definitely need to start doing that but I like that sucks having to make the different kinds of show that was scary to me that it wasn't as scary to Matt to Matt was scary was me and my resistance to change. It seemed to ignore the basic math that a show made by just a producer and a charismatic host. The comes out frequently finds a big audience that show will be more profitable than anything we were making right then. The thing that keeps me up at night is like we're super fucked if we don't have a much lower cost per episode model of production and right now. We don't have that we we don't know how to do it. There's a large chunk of organization has to reinvent the way it does what it does if we just continue on our current pace. I don't think there are things that are going to improve like I don't don't think all of a sudden audiences have just start growing and like we'll get better but we can make decisions to improve revenue. Yeah yeah absolutely yeah but I don't want Asli. This is a conversation about cost as well as you when when I listened back to this tape now all I hear is everything that is not being said the tension between me and Matt this just sitting beneath the surface tension over the fundamental question of what kinds of shows Gimblett should make and what kinds of shows we shouldn't. This new financial pressure was facing it put that tension front and center are started producers Chris. Mary Molly Mystic Interviewed Matin me separately about this time and how things felt between us. Tell me about your relationship with Alex last spring spring two thousand eighteen. Here's a low point. I guess the Metaphor I wanNA use as like a romantic relationship. Last last spring was the real time where it was like. We've been married for like seven years. We have kids we have a mortgage and and and we are fighting and I don't think we ever said the word divorce.

Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard and Stephen discussed on Colleen and Bradley
"I don't know what to say about two thousand eighteen so reversed exactly bell posted a screen shot of an Email that came to her. The Email says star that's the tabloid is working on a story in which a source says that Kristen bell. And Dax Shepard of disgust having a threesome and toyed with other kinky things like role playing sources say that Kristen believes this is insurance against a marital meltdown. If you wish to comment on this story, please reply by twelve PM eastern standard time Thursday, the eleventh of October. She posts this. Because clearly this is an Email that is they're doing their due diligence as journalists to allow them to speak for them. Stephen tabloids what their sources to have an opportunity to go on the record and and SEM because they have ethics. So so Kristen bell post this. So as well does Dax Shepard. And this is where I love them as a couple is that Dax Shepard essentially breaks it down in the best way where he says the only offensive thing about this bowl bleep story is that Kristen bell isn't doing all this kinky nece out of horny nece. But rather a desperate attempt to save her marriage. And this is why I like love them because they. You would assume that anybody would go. Well, this is just nonsense, blah, blah, blah. Look what he's not even giving it the column like the brain space the real estate to honor what they're trying to do. And instead brings it to the part that is the most offensive which is that Kristen bell is a damsel in distress in her own marriage and desperately wants to save it by doing things that are uncomfortable for her in the bedroom. I'm like, I love this relationship because of the way that they like work through some of this big gross stop in two thousand eighteen Colleen I see that you love Dax Shepard. And Kristen Bell's relationship I honor your feelings towards their relationship. Oh, there's a but coming here

Lindsay Lohan Wants Fans to Do the Lilo After Her Dance Moves Go Viral
"As I'm sure every one of you has seen Lindsay Lohan dancing in Mykonos video. Let me just recap this. So basically, I don't know if it was Lindsay or someone else posts video of Lindsay, truthfully living her life in egos, and she's dancing. She's living it up anyway, busy Phillips and Kellyanne decide to remake the video. It's on Friday night. So they make in their kitchen. They posted video and it was hilarious. Critique in comments on a lot of celebrities coming out like, oh my God, this mazing. So we post it and we kind of made it until challenge like doing the Lindsay Lohan challenge. And what was so shocking to me was that there was this mixed response like half the people are more than half the people loved it thought it was hilarious, and the other half started to really come for busy and Kelly saying that they were bullying, Lindsey, listen, let me tell you. We go through a very vigorous checklist before we post anything to make sure that it's not offensive me in voting, whatever. Not for one second. In my mind that I think of that at all in that light, especially. Knowing busy Phillips who was like the preacher of being like so sweet. So nice. So good. Like her tensions weren't to bullying when they were in the slightest bit malicious. So so that happens, right. They posted in everybody kind of starts talking about it personally. I didn't. I couldn't. I usually try to like, see all the sides that situation. I could not see that was bullying. Then. TMZ comes out and calls it mocking Spencer Pratt than defense, busy busy than comments on it being like guys. Are you kidding? We're literally two moms on a Friday night. Lindsey is invading was having the time of her life. We were just trying to like, do her dance, what it was yet. So then I found my most validation when Lindsay reposted the video herself saying, do the challenge was loving. It was basking in the glory peaking. I'm telling you, I'm telling you she's peaking. So there's Lindsay having the time for life. All these people that were saying that she was upset about it when she posted. I finally was like, there you go guys and you know they're still people like who that's still not going to get through. She only posted it because she wanted to make it look like she wasn't upset even though she like, you know what I mean? But it wasn't. She was happy. I thought she was great dancing truly thought she looked great and was having so much fun. I just that whole thing really frustrated me frustrated me because I felt like it was taking it was like a glass glass, half empty approach, like really looking at it, the negative of a very late hearted fund situation. I agree. I tried to get my thoughts really pissed me off.
