"So when you look at the Lions today, the big one that jumps out once again Desmond Trufant being out of their their light a cornerback. They have been Justin Coleman's on injured reserve. So your two top corners right now are out, which means you're going back with those young guys in or Lori and Dakota. And you got to find some way to get them a little bit of help. That would be a pass rush, right? You saw them struggle last week against the Hall of Fame quarterback in Aaron Rodgers. Yeah, they did, and again, like you saying. Pass rush there, Todd and together these some kind of way the lines could get a pass rush on them, Guys. Look, I look for culture. Attrition play a lot more zone this week having those young guys back there the same or also inactive Logan, Stamberg, Hunter Bryant and Ty Johnson for the Lions for the Cardinals. Couple of jump out number one former Wolverine Mason colder center right in the middle. That offensive line may be an opportunity for the Lions. Danny Shelton, Nick Williams to Sean Hand to get some pressure up the middle. Yes, and that's what we need again. COLUMN Murray We know he's a guy that likes to escape getting outside. Well, if we could contain him and force him up in the pocket. Hopefully, like you're saying Danny shelled Nick Williams and those guys be able get pressure in his face, All right, the rest of the inactives for the Cardinals. Also Christian Kirk, starting receiver and also one of the kick return is he's inactive today, Rester backups for them, including their third quarterback, Brett Hunley. And third running back. You know, Benjamin, starting a lot of spirit today, brought to you by Wrigley's famous weeklies, famous Eastern Market. Corned beef. Remember to ask, Is it weeklies? All right, let's get to the lions. Kenny Golladay. We assume he will get to start back at wide receiver for the Lions did it? That's a big one. Danny Amendola, Marvin Jones as well. But just having Kenny Golladay out there really forces the defense to play this team different. Yes, it does. And I'm looking at us being ableto possibly have Morse assists in the run game because Kenny Golladay they won't be able to bring the safety down towards the line of scrimmage. Candies are going to affect the the offense in the passing and then the running one of the reasons they're hoping to have more success in the running game, as well as the return of Gallipoli body by Ty was in there at right tackle for them. Also at left tackle Avi Taylor Decker rodeo, bushy in their guard Jonah Jackson. In there, a guard Frank Rag now in there at the center position, look, they paid by tie that money. They think he can help them on. That offensive line. Don't know could be on any kind of snap count with that foot today, or they'll try toe. Get him some rest, but he's gonna be in there for part of the time, and that's a big return for the line. It really is. But then I feel confident, though, if they do try to put them on the snap count, trying to give him risk to rail Crosby still there and, well the last two weeks, so I think to really being there as a backup, I think way should be all right. If Bata has the lead the game defensively to Sean had a trade flowers up front with Shelton Williams, the linebackers Christian Jones, Jared Davis, Jamie Collins, your corners today as we said of money or a warrior. Hokuto, your safety's You'll see Tracy Walker Diran Hammond and will Paris out there. Diran Harmon. I should say they will all be out there and they loved those three safety looks, so you'll see him together. Kickoff is coming up. Here we go. This is the Detroit Lions Radio Network. Hello, Detroit. It's the Ford Motor Company. This city has changed a lot.

Navigating the NICU with Nurse Tori

"Nurse Tori Welcome to the woman. I'm so happy to finally have you on here. Oh my gosh. Danny, thank you so much for having me I. I'm thrilled I'm excited. When I message like I've been missing the nick you can. We discussed and having Nikki episode, and of course, you were like Hell Yeah let's do it. Please I love it. I'm so excited reminisce about Nikki life plus it's Nikki awareness month which I didn't know of and I feel very ashamed of myself made twelve years and the. Only. Thing it's not you know I think it was established. Let's say I don't know couple of years ago. For making. Thank you. Know it's become a thing love so Well, that's amazing because I know we had like a Nikki nurse day right around there like okay. Hers also, November, which is like free maturity awareness month. So we're kind of all over the place just establishing Mon- says everything CAPEX. Nikki. Nurse. Day there's also I wanNA see. There's like now they're kind of breaking down day in. September. For the end of the month like twenty, seven, Twenty, eight, twenty, nine all are dedicated to different aspects of the nick you so. Love that. Yeah, it's pretty neat. It's special. So this is actually really cool. It's a cool month for late I would say the nurses, the doctors, the RT's, and then also courts the families and. The pass babies or pass patients than accused of reminisce and yeah. So like every year mild hospital would have a day where all the parents could come who had lost a child in the nick you and then they have like like. Not like a religious but like kind of like a reunion like A. Goodwill prayer you know type thing and you know some of the nurses could go down and like the families could go and like reunite with them. Does your hospital do anything like that? Yes. Oh, a couple of different hassles I worked have done things like that. I would say the most consistent thing I've seen that most hostels do and participate in is the march of dimes. Yes. Where you can do that some hustles will have separate time to do a reunion but the is a pretty condescending where you know we could raise funds or a walk and kind of I would say the one big time that we do our hustle also does do. It's a walk in the park and dots because we're near. Disneyland. Rona we were able to do it where. And nurses and doctors who ever wanted to go could go do walk in the park together and it sort of like a day to remember everything and should be together and so that's actually a pretty cool things well so. That's so lovely. Yeah, it's really special. I. Mean. Especially when you are, you know working with these families as you know for up to in the nick you up to a year really or more. Yeah. Exactly be restocked relationships you know yeah, and I feel like. That's kind of one of the things that really sets and Nick you apart from working in other areas of the hospital. Yeah I would agree even having some more recently I was working as a critical care. Nurse so I was working. Hickey NICU'S TV ICU arcologies. And it was a really interesting interesting thing to see the differences in the dynamics of the unit. So for example. I would say sort of. A, little bit more like that. Fast. Like you're you're out they you know primarily drink surgeries console. It's very fast paced. It's different or traumas and things like that. Is Nick you you know we really do have not long-term relationship. I would say similarly oftentimes on college, we'll have kind of relationship with their patients while actually. So that's true. That's true.

"Comfortable. Exactly. Want to be Danny's. So anyone else's. Christmas talks to David and. She talks about going after the money and she said, why would you do that David? Why would you? Go for the money and did not compete Christmas is the one Christmas has been. So the people that are the most angry. I'd say Christmas is number one. Enzo is number two because he wanted that money. MEMPHIS is number three. Danny is number four just because she's using it to try and get David. Then cody would be number five, but he pretty quickly was like, Oh, you're doing it for a cause that's great. He was just mad that his plan got out the looks bad on him because it makes it look like he told Dave upon and then. A. I don't think anyone else was really mad. No. Nicole. Didn't mind. Tired, I, didn't, care. I didn't really. I. Don't think Kevin Cared that much David didn't care. That's. Heaven should be thrilled that the other nominee is not actively trying to win Nicole was due busy being mad about not being able to win a competition this like into the end of the game with people she competitions and Christmas was just like. How dare I'm not allowed to compete at all not one veto, the entire season, and now he could have picked me to play with houseguests. Joyce. Chooses not do and now I he goes for the money likes she is so furious and. If, it makes me mad another bypass.

"And so will be a little litigation all day. But I liked that you know it's coming out in funny ways and not. To be actively damaging his game quake yet I mean, honestly, this is a moment to me that would be an indicator as to wear the lines of communication are. Because Tyler. It was kind of jokingly but tyler did say don't tell cody. and. And so clearly went and told call you not only when told cody but acted like it was his idea that it was his piece of information to tell. And I think that should be telling to both cody and tyler a little bit as to like how Enzo plays this game because that is how ends up plays this game. Yeah, it definitely is an indicator. I don't think at least that we've seen so far. It's made any like major impact, but oath players in Tyler and cody what you would think at least to be capable of picking up that fact I'm just curious to see if they recognize. These now. Exactly what that means for their games more beyond like this little joke So Nicole is going to talk with cody a little bit later. She gives them the heads up that. Danny is being very adamant about this David. Thing. And she says that the Danny told Memphis and Christmas that hey, cody doesn't have A. Serious. What does she do? Yeah knock great. Anything Danny says is going to get leaked back. So it's a little unfortunate there, but it's just like one more thing. Very Danny One more thing to bury Danny one more thing. And he's not doing ourselves. Nicole says she is worried though about David coming after her that's what Dan's saying in cody says, no, she's wrong. David stays between us. Going for Memphis and Danny Memphis. Target there. And she's like, oh Yeah Great. That's fine. If David's going from Memphis, the problem is and daddy will also be on the block and so doesn't care about that. Yeah. I know that she does not care. That's true. Nicole was always worried about being the other nominee. So as soon as she finds out, she's not going to be there. It's like all right whatever I don't care bud problem for Danny being that doesn't matter. You're the target you're still ending up on the block it probably going home in that scenario, it's not an argument for Danny that's. The. Problem is that there's nobody like Danny is the perfect person to say you're targeting in this house because nobody will care as long as they don't. They're not going to end up on the blog next to Danny. And even if they are, they feel pretty.

Transforming Infused Biologics into Injectables

"Rene, thanks for joining us. Thank. You Danny a pleasure to be here. We're GONNA talk about how It's enhanced drug delivery technology and how the company has rebuilt its business strategy around this, let's start with enhanced though what is enhance? That's a great question. Enhance is based on the proprietary enzyme recumbent Human Highly Rana Days Ph twenty. There is a human enzyme on human, highly Rhonda's enzyme and on accommodate version of that. I'd be happy to go into a little bit more about how it works if you'd like. What's the normal function of the enzyme in the body? Okay. So a little bit of biology then. So if you think about the Subcu-, if you think about the skin, there are three layers, the epidermis, the Germans, and then subcutaneous stays. The subcutaneous space is primarily composed. Of fact, some structural components like Alaskan in college, and then a sugar call highly Ronin. Hiring Ronan Forms Gel like substance in the subcutaneous as and this is what's important when it comes to enhance that that GEL like substance creates a resistance to injecting omnium into this up you space the typical volumes you can inject are usually wanted to amounts of subcutaneous. And so. What the enzyme does is it is it breaks down the highly Raanan as as you're jetting drug and the Enzyme Co formulated together. If rates out highly on, she can actually deliver large volumes of injections subcutaneous slow. And that's how drug. Works. So, when we think of That are infused into a patient is volume the issue of why those drugs get infused as opposed to inject it exactly most of the biologics are large lions and they can be sixty, nine, hundred miles. It depends on the concentration if a partner if a company wants to coach with smaller injection buying that could be administered subcutaneous -ly they we co formulated with our enzyme and that formulated product is injected. subcutaneous league are typical products. are in the range of five to twenty EML's. which is allow a lot more than the standard one to two that you can deliver without the enzyme. And what is it actually doing wants it's formulated with a biologic. So, it doesn't do anything to the biologic. But when you inject the CO formulated product into the subcutaneous face, the enzyme breaks down the highly are mentioned that the skin it's a sugar that's naturally in the skin. It breaks it down and opens the state think about like opening the secure space that larger volume have be dispersed, and some of the drug can then be absorbed into the. Circulation. So it facilitates fat sub Q. Injection Large on fluids. What does it take to actually formulate a biologic with enhanced? Does it actually? Does it require doing something to bind it to it or is it just a matter of exciting it into the liquid? It's more than mixing. So typically what we do when we work with a partner on their therapeutic, is we I WANNA, make sure that the enzyme is compatible with their drug at there's no effect of the drug on the vice versa. So we test for compatibility. Then we would test for stability making sure that the two men combine the enzyme on the drug are. Stable a long period of time so that the drug can be manufactured I'm sitting on the shelf for a period of time. One says diamond than simply mixing the two together and the amount of enzyme relative to the amount of drug is extremely small the environment in the order of micrograms of material verses, the drugs which are usually in milligrams. So thousand fold differences.

Yet again, Belarusians have flooded the streets of Minsk on demonstrated in other towns and cities determined to force out President Lukashenka. His security forces have responded robustly, seizing large numbers of people and carting them off in bands. Some demonstrators have been heading for an area of Minsk, where many senior officials live. They're not the sort of images Mr Lukashenko would like on the eve of his first face to face talks with President Putin since his disputed election victory. Despite maintaining the loyalty of Belarus is security apparatus. He is no closer to reasserting. He's once iron grip on the country. The BBC's Danny

And that's being a relatively new group together in our tent playoff game together way having a learning to fly we did in Game four and was able to bring it into the third quarter tonight. Again. Mitch Trubisky Expected To Start As Chicago Bears Quarterback Over Nick Foles

Mitch Trubisky Expected To Start As Chicago Bears Quarterback Over Nick Foles

"Let's start off talking about your pal and my pal super bowl fifty, two hero nick foles and when. The Chicago bears traded for Nick foles over the off season for a fourth round pick we all largely assumed it would be to replace Mitchell trubisky as the team starting quarterback. Otherwise, why do you go out and trade for Nick Foles? Mitch Trubisky is a pretty bad quarterback in the Chicago offense. Last year was pretty dreadful with Mitch Trubisky as signal caller and the two were. They were involved in some kind of quarterback competition this summer in training camp everyone I think myself especially just figured Nick foles would win that job. Well, NFL DOT com reporting that trubisky has beaten out nick foles for the starting quarterback job in Chicago. Remember all that talk about whether the eagles should keep foles or go with Carson wentz. Now, he can't even beat out Mitchell and I love Nick foles this is not me bagging on Nick foles but I'm finding it hard to believe that Nick foles doesn't look better in Camp Than Mitch Trubisky you Mitchell Trubisky is literal. Well, listen to the numbers. Okay. The bears offense averaged seventeen and. A half points per game last year and ranked in the bottom five points per game and in total yards. Okay. Trubisky through for thirty one, hundred, thirty, eight yards, seventeen touchdowns, and ten interceptions. He's a terrible quarterback he looked like he might be improving in two thousand eighteen he played pretty well in the bears playoff loss to the eagles especially at the end of the game when he made some big plays, but he regrets terribly in two thousand nineteen. That's Chicago offense was awful and Trubisky was one of the big reasons why only seventeen touchdowns on the season? There's a reason there's a reason the Chicago bears went out and got nick foles. And Nick foles has a higher ceiling the Mitchell trubisky. You can't tell me what after what we saw Nick Foles do in that playoff run in two thousand seventeen that he doesn't give you a better chance to win. Unless Nick foles arm is falling off for or age has really set in in a big way with Foale's we don't know because we haven't been able to watch any preseason games. So we have no idea what's going on in matinees training camps and what's happening behind the scenes, but it's mind boggling to me that they're going to go with the guy who in Mitchell trubisky you know what he is by this point and you know what Nick foles can do. Both of these guys have a low floor. There's there's no question we've seen nick foles when he's not on play terrible football he's not a good quarterback when he's in one of his slumps but when he's hot. There are few that can match nick foles can do when Mitchell trubisky is hot. It's only slightly better than not. So Great Mitchell trubisky what and we just to think about what Nick Foles did in those two playoff games in the NFC championship game, and then in the Super Bowl to do what he did on that stage and the love that his teammates have for him I just it's a it's a very curious decision by Matt. Nagy and the Chicago bears to go with Mitchell trubisky over nick foles but that's the decision they've made I think. Long Story, Short Nick Foles my prediction will start more games than Mitchell trubisky this year when all is said and done nick foles is probably you're starting quarterback not long after the season begins and my guess is if he stays healthy nick foles starts more games than trubisky this year. Because I know the bears aren't really that smart and I know they they sunk a lot into trubisky drafting him when they did. But at some point, you just got to cut the cord move on I i. We don't know what's been going on in training camp at. Nick foles must've looked really bad in training camp for them to go with trubisky over him.

New York in the seventies was was a a brilliant dangerous time like light seventies. Not just because of all the graffiti on trains and the rundown and Harlem, and all these dangerous places that you could go to his fooling down places but culturally, it was really good music films. It was a hip hop star. Know. New Wave. Everything. Would it culturally it was really great. We talked about that law but the talks about the Kennedy in. London. And and the have and the have nots and that industrial revolution age and. That something I wanted to bring into the fact that city that hasn't been gentrified yet is still locked in the past and probably falling down a little bit. So all the sets of design slightly askew with like slightly going down you know like the whole thing is crumbling been held up with good and things like that, and then the last thing we spoke about was rim fairy tales and and the fact that as adult fairy tale element to. To honor the comic book idea of it. And so those three elements thrown together. And then must is to keep your feet on the ground. So it's it feels really reliable. It seems like it also has a color, its own color Palette jet texture that we haven't really seen in other comic book adaptations to now I mean that was just because with all of those influences coming in there are certain gels you caught through. There was a contemporary look we didn't do. We could do a test now bicycler whereas like is this often cars that cars this governed governor it's the same thing as colors and. Trying to get the crews taste and and and the performance tastes into that same thing. It's it's good and it was easier than we thought. You know it's it's quite. Nobody knows what period is if feels comfortable because it feels very familiar. That yet, but nothing sticking out you to to portray that. Theatrical reality that was one of the series executive producers and Danny Cannon, whose asked if Gotham itself as a character in this without doubt. Yeah. Without doubt that's why the show that was very much. Bruno's intentions had to be a character and all the designing I did was was was on that. Was myself in the production. drew for a long time just to get I found myself. It wasn't just drawing the new buildings that wanted to insert into New York will take away the glass buildings out of New York. Older Dickensian style attended the century English buildings It it I I. Drew Skies, and that was I don't know where that came from US listened to music and I'd start during stormy skies everywhere and I was like. That's it that stat stats when I got it was when I I put stormy sky on everything. Now, Gotham is a huge hit on twitter. How do feel about beating every other show on twitter are really Fila get on twitter? Obviously doesn't need me. Yeah right yeah. I think that's wonderful I. You know to be talked about Israeli sometimes even better than watched I think it would be I. I. It's Great. As long as I can promise those nice people that allowed that to happen that the show gets better and better, and there's plenty to talk about are there any character storylines you would like to bring in that you haven't brought in already? We have a great relationship with DC and we sit down with them constantly and Ask about origins of various characters and. It's amazing. How many don't have Origins. Many characters just turned up his bad guys you know in the and so. It's really. We feel on to be able to go back in this. Great. Legacy and and and UH. site. Okay. So how did they turn up like that? How did they have? So. Yeah. Now we're having a lot of fun.

Danni Reches: How to Enrich Your Experience as a PhD Researcher

"I'd really want Danny to focus on. What's your projects have been you know and? One of them we already mentioned and is quite evident but. Other projects you've been developing besides just your PhD research and the idea is also to see if we can take out of that, how that enriched your experience as a PhD student and how listeners out there could maybe take some some example of that too. Also wherever they are You know find a group of like minded people and also enrich their experience and make it a a richer one and A. How to make their PhD a more diverse experience than just doing their research? That's where I wanted to say. I've been to a lot of different things and this is something my supervisor has warned me for so. Now, a bit more cautious at I'm trying to do it a bit less, but I've been slowed down by the whole situation with corona. Anyway. So I just want that to be a little bit of a warning when I start talking about all the fun things that I did because you definitely have to keep in mind how much a person can do without burning out. By As let me start with w about my love for conferences, especially if they're paid for and abroad. in a way, it allowed me to keep traveling, which is so much love. In, my first year Beastie, I managed to spend three weeks in. Australia where never been before somewhere in the mountains beautiful place. at the form. And there are. A huge conference on different topics with two hundred. Students, not only be as there were just a few these most of them were in. From all over the world is shared my flats with someone from Pakistan right as an Israeli. F from the Philippines ends from South Korea and we went to arts events and I a events conferences about politics about health. All kinds of fields bunket, Moon spoke there prisons of Australia's spoke there I was invited as far as Israel delegation do very fancy dinner with people who worked at important banks and things like that. So this was like the big thing that I was very excited about enemies I might give per station about my research about a Mike Proposal and I got some really useful feedback from people from the field. So this was absolutely great. So in a way, it was a lot of fun at for me. It was free, but it was also different work because I got that feedback that I needed. Has to continue to projects, and then I've also spent some time in Brazil. which was the first time that was really great and I gave myself a few extra days in Rio. also about migration on a learned a lot about migration in the Global South 'cause, I focus very much Europe. And then I've done my trips to Germany for research. So this way, I get to travel been to Cairo in January for sight that have seen a beer minutes. For a conference of the. National Organization for Migration that's connected to the UN. And I presented my research on the bow dare. which was pretty cool and there will so policymakers there which is something I'm very much interested in going into after. Doing. The interesting. So also some networking definitely. And just to see how day spoke about similar topics outside of academia. So these are things that I love doing that definitely projects because you have to apply for these things especially if they involve money right and they need to plan all of your trip started dime and only Gives you a flight ticket place stay but doesn't say anything about the preparation of your actual doc or bolster at the conference. And then there you're also working 'cause you're networking is about your topic trying to get out be volts. Things like that. But for me, it was very motivating. It's It's everything I ever wanted to travel for work right. And besides that, I've always works next to my degrees I am getting scholarship, but it's not enough to survive off. So I'm working also for the center where I study. And they're responsible for organs of guest lectures like getting the guest lecturers in also from countries to speak to our students in English we also have trips for students plans, for example, to embassies here in Israel. So they can see what their options are after the grief. And also conferences and Colloquia. So this way I, really got to learn how to organize the these events and be working on something that's not so much research, but still helps with the network.

"With Ben Frederickson on scoops with Danny Mac and Ben was at the Ballpark last night, taking in the inner squad game. This is presented by Henderson and water cutty. See what they offer at S., T., l., Criminal Defense Dot Com S. t. l., criminal defense dot Com ben Frederickson from the Saint. Louis Post dispatch wrote about the game in today's post dispatching on St L.. Today Ben is always good to visit with you. And how are things? I'm doing well man. That's great to have some some some interest quad games to discuss. It's great to see not see you in person at the Ballpark, but to know that while I'm there are there to on the level below me and and and just good vibes to have us both back in the in the same place with baseball doing on a man. Yeah, it's nice to talk baseball, and to actually talk about what the roster construction you know may may look like is we're a week away from opening day? I can't believe we're seeing that and we're. We're less. Less than a week away from the start of the the major league season it'll be a quick season sixty games, but last night it was k. k. against Ueno and again not a lot of offense. We'll get into that in just a moment, but let's get into the rotation This is starting to take shape. WAINWRIGHT will go in game. Two flared. He's going to be your opening day starter I. Really like what I've seen from Kim whether it was in spring, training or again last night. How do you think this thing is starting to shape up with the rotation? I've tried to get an answer forest last night I said hey filthy. You told wainwright season, so we got two of your of your five. You say you want five I said. Can you just go ahead and around the rest of it fourth? Right here right now. Kim's got a birthday coming up next week I just. Want to give them a little early present telemedicine that he's in and let's get this thing nail down. He he prefers to wait and and I. Understand that, but you know, look we. We see the writing on the wall here. He has been adamant that he wants a five man rotation because he feels like he's starters. Are you know the they're ready to to roll deep I mean if it was something where they only go three innings for innings, and maybe it's different. Maybe there's more of a piggyback and I think we're GONNA see. They won't call it a piggyback because they don't like that term but I think we'll see some pairings here early. Start to. Become, you know, become more obvious something like a you know..

"I don't know if you feel that way, but I do being a guy that is intimately evolved in baseball, and saw the ups and downs of dealing with that as a baseball fan, too. That is huge. Through pandemic good on hockey. That's how I feel. I agree in an echo that compliment I mean. This is a league that has had drastic You know drastic backlash. Due to previous Labor disagreements one that has had you know. Multiple work stoppages, and for them to navigate this and kind of very quietly. Ayden seems figure out a way to extend things about without you know all the bad press and in fan ain't I think it's A. Really, impressive I mean NHL, three lockouts, and last in the last three decades and it and it figures out at collective bargaining agreement during a time when. Baseball is is falling all over itself making fools out of itself when they don't even have to have a new TV baseball then doesn't interact with the two thousand twenty one season, so really impressive pretty cool to see, and you're right. It probably hasn't gotten as much attention as they deserve. Because it was so smooth, and and under the radar so I'll tell you what a lot of these leagues have made themselves look silly. During this time I said from the beginning we'll see other bubble goes. There could be could be problems there, but I think the NHL is as show that it's progressing league. Showing that. It's got some good leadership, and it shown that it that it is certainly when it comes to these types of relations has a better negotiating grounds between players and owners then than what we're seeing. In baseball they liked doing business better together certainly seems like that. Absolutely a Ben Awesome stuff. is coming back trying so. Makes these visits on a Friday more about what we concentrate on the field, and hopefully we're talking more about the roster construction of the cardinals next Friday as we edge closer to what we hope will be opening day of twenty. "Sto Criminal Defense Dot Com Let's shift gears. Nhl What are you hearing about a startup or the National Hockey League? Well they've been more quiet than the Than than the baseball side in terms of news getting out. But I also think there's probably more You know more consistency more goodwill between the players in the league. So you're probably not going to hear as much blow by blow but I don't think there's any league that is going to not attempt to make some sort of a comeback. Nhl has so much revenue on the line for its offs. That revenue does get split between players and owners. So if baseball's going to try to find a way would have a hard time believing that NBA NHL aren't also going to try to find a way but we go back to the Big Question. We keep hearing again and again. Hey there's going to be enough testing. There'll be enough but yet there isn't right now so what's going to change between now and then. When can they win? Can you start and have a full postseason? And and what do you do if something? Some kind of a snag is encountered. These are the questions that are going to have to have a decent plans around him before we can get our hopes up too high but it does seem like every week. There's a little more to be optimistic. About which lead do you think comes back? I Oh man I'm going. I think baseball. Yeah you in terms of actual games being played or just like this. You know 'cause they're going to have to build up again. I mean hockey is going to have to have like three weeks of training. Camp Point Wanted Baseball. One of these leagues has got to pull the trigger. And you say look. We're going to do it. We got agreement with our players. Were moving forward and if it works it works. If it doesn't then we know and then we don't know what's going to happen for sports for a long time potentially But yeah I I think baseball would be to me. Baseball is on the clock a little bit more than the other ones If you're if you're trying to get in because I'm not so sure you're going to have an eighty two game regular season if if they come to a revenue agreement I I would imagine we'd see more than eighty two games. I do think that and so you got a three weeks spring training you know twenty one days and then you fired up and take it from there and try to get as many games you can end And so you're fighting against the clock a little bit if your Major League Baseball I think it's I'm going to guess this is just a guess. But I'm I'm GonNa Guess Hockey because you know I think they. I think there will be less friction. No I think baseball is GONNA take a while to negotiate through. Whatever it's gotTa negotiate through. I could see hockey kind of coming out of the out of the blue here in San Hager's Were Rolling with it So I'll go. I'll guess hockey. Nba seems to be their MBA has kind of set the trend in all of this NBA was the first to shut it down. Maybe there's a chance. Nba could be the first to come back. But I do think that if you if you look at the League's which will have the least pushback from players at least the fewest question. I would guess hockey because they also have the most You know the most incentive to some degree to play because those guys make the lease money. You know that that's something to think about too in terms of and this is my final question. There's going to be live sporting events I am not an Ashkar Fan But we're going to have NASCAR. We're going to have a puppy now. You No kidding you bet your you know what there's going. GonNa be a golf match to that. I'll I will watch golf. I Love Golf so I'm just curious. You're going to watch some of these events and how they're presented on television when no crowds. Yeah it's live then. I'll be watching because it's better than it's better than the alternative. Now I say that somebody I haven't quite gotten full on into the experience yet mostly because they started route right about the time. I'm about to pass out for the night but you know I was just thinking. I can't remember the last time I watched a race on TV But it was never. Yeah but now am I. Why not right and and to some degree I think that's why there should be this incentive for some of these leagues to try to get going because there's something to be said about being the first. Marquee Sports League back in action. I mean wait till you see some of the numbers on these going to be here. I'll tournaments in some of these races. So that will reinforce the incentive to try to try to find a way back sooner rather than later as well. "Are putting in long hours around the clock to best serve our community so the next time you're in schmucks tell them thanks and that you appreciate them let them know how much we appreciate their efforts because we will all get through this together. One of my favorite people in the business of Baseball Chris Welch former Major League pitcher and now longtime analyst with the Cincinnati reds. He also runs a website. That will not only teach you about the rules. But bring you in. It's interactive is well. Chris is always I miss CNN. It's great talking to you but Hopefully we'll see each other in person fairly soon. How you doing? I'm doing great Danny. You know we were. We were scheduled to to meet up on opening day in Cincinnati. The parade the cardinals and everything else. It's it's one of the big match ups that I always love on the reds played cardinals because I get a couple of teams that I really like and get the hang around us so Thanks for having me on today. You got misplaced golf with the on opening day and I really miss seeing what this rivalry have been like in twenty twenty and maybe we'll still. We'll have that chance. But what were your expectations for the reds coming into the season? Wow very high expectations you know the ransack thank The Front office says took a bucket thereafter and said Hey. We don't think that we're going to have a better starting pitching rotation in the next few years than we do right here in two thousand so the winner of Two Thousand Nineteen Two thousand twenty one. They decided to go for a lot of money. More than one hundred and sixty million dollars in free agents They made some trades. They decided to bolster their offense. A little bit. Bring in guys like Mike Nicasio to to get already pretty decent team over the edge and I think that was part of it then. I think the other part of that. They see the window of Joey votto being a high quality caliber possibly MVP type player beginning to close enclosed quickly. So you want also take advantage of that so I think everybody in. Cincinnati had great expectations for this Auckland. What did that line of look like Especially towards the tail into spring. When you're playing your regulars and you're seeing Mustafa's Kosta Janos Suarez veto some of the others. I know there's some injuries mixed in there. But you didn't have the full complement. But what was it looking like as you're heading towards That Opening Day. Matchup with the cardinals. You know the interesting part of the lineup is at the very top for me. Because res- went. They signed their first ever Japanese. Free agent Akiyama who's left handed hitter not a big power guy but he was always very good on base percentage player over Japan and I think that that the reds thought his skill set would play pretty well as rates in the same way. It'd probably platoon little bit. Maybe with a young player name. Nick Zell Dick. You gotTa look at him. Last year. He came into camp injured with a shoulder into that. You know he should be ready to go right now so. I think that that would be the top end of the lineup. Joey bottle would probably be in the number two spot. And then from there it would be this learning Mustafa's past the however. David Bell wanted to play the lefty righty matchups and I think the good thing for the Red Sox fans standpoint is that they've got some firepower. They would have some threats in that lineup as far as power hitters. All the way down to the you know. Probably the number seven spot in the eight spot Freddie Galvez. Who's going to take over shortstop on an everyday basis the guy that switch hitter you can expect fifteen or twenty out of him so. I think that there was a lot of excitement to go along with good pitching that they were going to see some homeroom ball set to what would rotation look like a you know. When you think about some of the the big names that you have coming back and guys that really Kinda reclaim their careers in Cincinnati. I thought you're pitching was going to be really improved this year. You know the pitching is going to be improved because you have veteran status pitchers who are now reaching their peak age wise. These guys are thirty five years old. They're twenty nine twenty eight twenty seven one and one a. whether it's sunny gray or or Trevor Bauer no Trevor Bauer. I'm a steal. You know so you know. Casino was was the at the start opening day starter last year. Trevor Trevor Bowers on board obviously sunny grey had he got some cy young award boats and so I think those top three or guys that they really think going to be They would keep the red some have any kind of losing streaks which is always a real problem on ballclub doesn't Excel Wade. Miley was signed as a free agent. left hair first time at a. Red Square takes him. That is very exciting. And he kinda you go one through one through five in that rotation and now you're looking at is the some of the guys who were in the rotation last year the year before our Tom Alley for instance pitch pretty well. Times LAST YEAR. For the reds. Probably looking at going to triple a long time for that kind of depth that they came into spring training. You know looking to cut pitchers off their roster rather than at pitchers to the rotation. How I'd would it have this year? And hopefully we'll we'll find out but to not see Marty Brennaman in the radio booth in a Cincinnati reds game. How how odd would that have been Chris? I think even more odd for you would be not to see him in the media dining room because a lot of people don't know this. I think the best forty events in my day sitting with having because this Guy Holds Court. He has great stage presence. He loves you and gets on you all the time. Get BILLIONAIRE IN. Turn a little bit you know. Sometimes they hurt. But that's the beauty of it though. It is the beauty of it and the guys completely unhinged out what he's not on the air when he's the air is one of the best officials ever caused a terrific reds fans are going to really. Miss Him. I think. Because it's you know little by little the fabric of the game is changing and when you lose icons like Marty Brennan Menendez in the Radio Boots. You know you just don't have you. Don't have the comfort a turning the radio on and hearing that that old leather shoes that fits so well kind of voice things move on certain late but they're they're certainly going to be a big void. I want to get to your site here in just a moment but a final question about the reds David Bell and his long history with his family with the reds and the city of Cincinnati. What would it mean on a personal level David Bell to win in Cincinnati and to do it with the reds? What what do you think that would mean to him and for the city and the fan base? I think it would mean everything for him. Obviously I mean he's always been a guy even going back to the days when Dusty Baker was managing. Jesse told me one time he goes. You know who's going to succeed me as manager David Bell that time David Bell is managing the double eighteen for the reds. In the meantime he had moved on came to the bench coach. The cardinals he. He's well respected his father. Buddy Bell is in the Reds Front Office document. Everything plagued the front office operative coach and so on So the Bell family very well entrenched Cincinnati. It would be a lot. I mean Cincinnati's allow like Saint Louis. You really proud of your own when they do something fun and great and I think that that's how they would appreciate it bill. The one thing that I would recommend. You didn't ask this question but I I think the one thing David Bell you learn as a manager is you have to sometimes follow your own instincts a little more than you think you do Everybody can manage with the stat sheet. Anybody can manage now with all the analytics that the science apartments and the data departments are giving to the manager. But I WANNA see him. Take that one step forward where he begins to manage people a an and situations in putting guys situation or they can succeed by using his gut feel a little bit because he's got a great sense of baseball where he knows the game. He's got a great sense of being leader.

"It's kind of like groundhog day. But there's always news You know In the weeks Even when there's not sports concerning the corona virus and win sports may return or what leagues are doing or what colleges are doing and the NCWA. So we'll jump into that good morning to you. How're things good morning man? I'm doing well Hanging in there and You know I I think the right trying to to figure out what the news is in terms of slowly but surely kind of switching sports try to work its way back in in hater. There seems to be some some optimistic news on that front so I'm not above celebrating that right. Now we'll take we'll take anything we can get and moving in the right direction and I think that there's something something to to be optimistic about. Their doctor vouch. E is always on the Corona Virus Task Force in addressing the Media Day in and day out And he came out and said because he is a sports fan as we found out he said I miss baseball. I miss seeing my world champion. Washington nationals compete. But he said there is an avenue to make this happen to play. It would be without fans but yet there's an avenue to play. What what did you take away from those comments? What put a lot of stock in that And I certainly put a lot more stark than that than I than I do about. Reports about what returns could look like or these dates that have been thrown out people who are not in those conversations In and I'm glad that that he shared that he's been you know first of all this amazing I mean he's on. He's made himself available for every interview. Between our live streams with steph curry. To you know this interview where he made these comments with. I believe it was for snapchat so I think he's. He went on you know he goes on with with with celebrities. He goes to normal press briefings. He's trying to get his message out in any way he can and realize he's got to reach a lot of people so I was glad to take to see that Peter. Hamby snapchat asked about what his take on sports because I like sometimes people in his spot get labeled as you know well. They don't ever want anything to get back to normal. And they're just GonNa you know they they will not you know agree to any sort of return or attempt to return to normalcy until there is no case of corona virus left on the face of the earth. And it's not gonna be that. He is talked about a rolling timeline as to win. We kind of get to the point. Where it's worth the the mitigated brisk of getting things up and going and I've been saying first of all the best thing to do is listen to the experts. Second of all the thing to do is realize that there are a lot of powerful voices going to be advocating for the return of sports in a way that steamed as safe as possible. And that's what she was talking about. He's get these athletes together in some way Have them you know in either in one hotel or some sort of gathering place where they're not exposed to the outside world mit mitigate the chance of of a positive test and have procedures in place. That guy does test positive. He's out before he can not a bunch of teammates and there are problems with that and he's talked about those two is the contagion could be you know there before a player shows any signs What do you do when that happens? The good news is these tests are becoming more more common. They're becoming faster and there seems to be away. Emplaced do this. The one condition being that you're you're not going to be playing in front of fans getting back to the crowd is who is. You can't have that many people together at one time eventually. Hopefully here soon we will be able to have enough people together under strict guidelines and procedures to have enough people to play Major League baseball game and it sounds like he's GonNa be in favor of that so and I know there's a discussion about whether people would rather wait until fans can go back and I think we all want to be able to go to a ball game fans media everybody But I think if you took a poll of would you rather have a game on. Tv or not people are going to say they would rather have one on TV right now. I mean you got people watching games that I think the president said the. He's he's tired of watching fourteen year old baseball games. Now it's probably the the one comment he said However many years everybody is agreed with so so some common ground there. I think we can all feel the same way but it was just nice to hear someone who actually knows what they're talking about as opposed to the talking heads everywhere say. Hey I think this this could work a lot that has to be sorted out but I think it could work in a pro sport like Major League Baseball depending on what the players will agree with As I think it's going to have a much more challenging time on the college level because colleges the NCAA revolves around kind of presenting itself as something other than a massive money making business which is what it is and when he started talking about players maybe taking risks or treating treating student athletes so much more differently than regular. "Let's talk a little bit about the Arizona bubble plan if you will for Major League Baseball. What was your reaction to hearing that? Maybe they could quarantine players staff support staff all the different things that go into this. We'll dive into it. But what was your initial reaction to hearing that it didn't surprise me. I mean some people think oh my gosh. There's no way can work. But here's the deal. They're going to be talking about ideas so some of these ideas are going to get out. We know how baseball works. They come up with a tentative plan. And there's almost always a trial balloon that gets out and baseball. Says this is premature? This isn't what's actually happening but yet it's out there so I think this is. What baseball always does where it comes up with a plan that may or may not work and it kind of floats to see how how it's received and that's what's happened on previous rules and previous changes baseball has made so we're seeing it happen here again. Of course they're discussing things in ways. This could work. I see some problems with it and you know it's frustrating to me. Because here's what happens where this comes out and you say hey. I see some potential hang ups here and then you're immediately criticized for saying. Oh you're so negative. Why can't you be paused it? Well I guess we can all be you know. We can all be devastating where we say. It's GONNA come back. It's going to be great but you know our job is actually that thing and see if it could and couldn't work and there are some problems with these scenarios. Let's start with what I mentioned earlier. Is You know a baseball player. Who's a father of three going to say yes? I will play the whole season or as long as needed away from my family and not be able to see them in person because if you allow families to enter that setting that controlled environment. That hotel That quarantined hotel. If you will than that increase the risk for exposure that much more every time. The family leads the thing here. This will work well until a player gets thrown virus. It's probably inevitable. That player will get it at some point. What happens when that happens? Do you shut down that team. Do you shutdown. Just that player. Do you shut down the entire league what you do so. This only really works as long as you keep all the players from getting it. Perhaps that's unrealistic but I guess you could try it and see a long. You go on with the determination of will figure that out women get there. 'cause it's Kinda what works. Were all doing so. If that's the plan you have to really try to minimize the exposure for everyone who is influential and an elemental to having these games That means no family. No interaction with people other than teammates. An guys who are absolutely necessary. How long would they be willing to do that? They would have to sign off on this. Of course the union the other thing would be the fact that you have to play all these games in Arizona. Apparently it's hot as hell in Arizona and summer not every not every place is air conditioned you know you're gonNA have a player's GonNa be willing to do that. How does that? How does that work out? the other thing too. Because you're not gonNA have a minor league system going. How big the roster's get you know because you're going to have injuries. You're GONNA have setbacks. You're going to have probably a lot of pitching injuries. So how how big are the rosters willing to get? Some of the stuff is goofy. Like this idea that you're not the players. Social distance themselves in the stands as opposed to be in the dugout that shows a good perception. But you know it's not like there's not GonNa be a tag play at second base. It's not like the Umpires GonNa be you know not going to be interacting with the Catcher And I don't think you're GONNA want to go to an electronic strike zones in a in a season that includes so much more change because imagine all the problems that could happen with that and all the hijinks that might take place in such an altered setting so I see some problems the biggest one being. I have a hard time. Maybe I'm wrong and I know everybody wants to get paid so getting paid is the unifying factor here but you know a lot of players. I don't I just don't see players saying yeah you know we'll go to jail and and not be around anybody else other than our team for an extended period of time. I see them pushing back against that and I think some will I do too and I think that Maybe have been established in a made plenty of money. Say you know what I don't really want to go through this. How about no fans in the stands? Whether or not it's an Arizona bubble plan or maybe at Busch Stadium. It seems like the prevailing thought. Is that if sports return it would be without fans in the stands as it pertains to baseball when it would body of you saw game with no fans in the stands but it was on television. It doesn't mean I don't think it's it's not as good as it would be right. I mean ideally were all there You know and and including media fans everybody but if I I think it ultimately fans want to seek gains whether they're there or not so for me I think any game is better than than it altered game or better than the no game and altered game is better than no game is kind of where I sit on this. I think most fans agree. Ideally you know you might have a few romantics. Say let's wait until it's back in full force and everybody's there together but I think nine out of ten people would say yeah feel turn on my TV and see a game going. I'd like to have my fantasy league active. I'd like to. I'd like to get sports. That even if it's without fans in the stands so I think baseball would agree with that too talking to John Mosaic. I said what are you hearing? And he said most people are telling me they WANNA see Games and I agree with him. I do too I think. Even if there's not fans in the stands but you have as a fan a chance to watch something that has meaning and it's not a rerun of every single game now that we've seen in chronicled in the history of sports I think people want that. I think people need a diversion. And if we're finding out anything about and we're finding out a lot about different subjects but with as it pertains to sports in Baseball Board. Is Baseball. Play a big role in a lot of folks lives in America? And certainly. That's the case here in Saint Louis. I think the ratings on some of these replayed games are not what some of these some of these carriers are hoping they would be You know people. It's only the Pez. I talked to him a few weeks ago. The problem with watching the replays as you know what's going to happen. Yeah and even if it no matter how great it is. You've been there and done that and you know it is watching something that there's no suspense. There's no intrigue. There's no there's no unknown to it and unless you're just a you know it's such a great game in really like you could probably little the list of games at. Newby rewatch down to like ten and we past the point of tent this point so so at some point. You're watching you know just seeing something that you've seen before is i. Don't watch movies twice very often. It's GonNa be a really good movie and I can probably count on one. Hand that the amount of time to go like to see that movie again and I feel the same way about Games Henderson and water. "Make sure when you're thinking about a new or used car think blue views. We are Saint. Louis well this visit with John is so much about just where the cardinals are at at the beginning of spring training a potential well maybe contract extension for Yada. You're Molina make him a cardinal for life. Well that is something that will get into if you're new to the website. Maybe look at some of the older entries that we have for podcast. One of those was Ted. Simmons and I asked Ted About Yadi. What makes him so? Special Body has the ability to hitting instructor pitching coach the manager Catcher. He has the ability to all those things. What's extraordinary about him is he could do them all at the same time. And when you think about that. I'm not exaggerating. He might not be willing to do it but if for some reason that became necessary he could do it. Do you think so. Absolutely do he could hit. He's he's become. A great hitter is become a run producer. He's now learned to hit with power. I mean you know. It's his whole offensive. Approach is significant today as opposed to when he first came be understands the pitching inside out. I mean when he goes to the mound to stop play and everybody comes to the mound. I mean it's because he is the pitching coach and he is out there reflecting the managers intent and the pitching coaches intent and he makes it plain to everyone when he gets out there and then he goes back and then catcher again and it's very likely in the next half inning. He's leading off after Palma. So you're looking at an extraordinary story. Mary player one. I've never seen in my life until like an congratulations. Ted Headed to the hall of fame other subjects that we'll get into with Mo The left field battle where they're at with the rotation who might close if Carlos Martinez in the rotation and we'll also talk about What's happening in the game today and that is well. It's the Houston. Astros the scandal with them. The Boston Red Sox last week here at cardinals camp the cardinals hitting coach Jeff Albert. Who used to be a member of the Astros addressed the media about that situation twenty seventeen? I'm the Minor League coordinator and two thousand eighteen. My experience wasn't really like kind of a lot of stuff. That's coming out in the in the media now so I did not really experience a lot of conversation with players staff. Anything like that had to do with anything that I thought was not people. Did you feel if you had seen something? Was there an avenue for you to say anything? I think that would have been a really tough so I understand from weather center. Players staff members where cases may be I I do. I could go back to that time. I do think that would have been tough for vision to Ian. I didn't feel like there was any like looking around like I said conversations with staff players just looking around it and really feel like I was watching Witnessing anything that was out of the ordinary so what changes could be happening for Major League Baseball concerning Rules in terms of making sure that this doesn't happen again. We'll get into that. The train shed at Union station. Mo- another year is upon us. You had been in this game for a long time. The the still get excited when spring training comes around. Oh absolutely first off. It's it's always exciting moment of of springs approaching. You know that baseball season's getting closer but just seeing everybody gathered down here. And and you know candidly the pressure of spring training especially the first couple of weeks. Isn't that high so in terms of just being able to to embrace while you're here and what you're doing it's it's so much fun and you know? I certainly think that as you lead up two games there. There's a lot of things that you want to see happen and get done but the just the energy level that that you experience when you're down here something that I think is very special. What excites you about the Twenty twenty cardinals is that first off. I think we'll be a good club. But the thing that I'm most excited to watch specially In camp is just really to how our our club looks from an offensive standpoint You know I think about what we try to do. This off season some of the strategies that we've tried to Put into place in knowing what hitters were working on. I think it'll be you'd be exciting just to see how that transitions from paper to practice. It takes awhile and Jeff Albert now in year two is at part of it to kind of get in his system implemented and the players. Had you know used to him and vice versa I would. I would imagine that last year we. We probably took that for granted a little bit. Not Knowing that the teacher understands students student has undertand understand teacher and perhaps we thought that would be a lot more seamless than it really was but I do feel like now that we've had a year under our belt that that the players understand what's expected from them and I think Jeff understands it. There's some adjustments estimate on his end as well. I remember we were visiting in the fall and and he said well carbs. GotTa make some adjustments whether it's physically mentally. What's happening at the plate? Those kind of things. What have you learned at least initially here in spring training or talk to him about in terms of getting back to the kind of player in hitter that he can be well? I think that I just looked stronger. So you know I think he tends to. When he goes away for the off season he tends to come back. Maybe a little too lean and I think you know over course of a season. I think that affects them a little bit so I I think. The added Muscle Mass was something that he needed to do. And I think that was smart. And you're just talking to him. I think he realizes that you know last year was was not the year he wants to have and he's on that and. I think he wants Assia a much different outcome this time last year. You're about to have a cup of coffee with Paul Goldschmidt and turn that into well a long term deal with the Saint Louis Cardinals now with a year under his belt in and being relaxed maybe with family and those kind of things in Saint Louis and situated. What kind of year do you think Paul Goldschmidt could have you know? I think expectations always tough when you when you sign one of those types of contracts and and so the fact that it it. It is a year away now. I think gives you a little bit more breathing. Room so expectations for him are very high. I also think just understanding the city understanding his own routine is something that that he now has. And so you know I think taking that next step forward is something that is Very reasonable to assume and I. I think he's a very good spot and I know he would like to have a much stronger year as well. The day the the season ended people were talking about lineup. Construction for twenty twenty What do you? What do you think about the lineup? Right now. In terms of up top and where to Goldie might hit as he threes fours? He had a stay at three. I mean all those things. How do you think this is all going to play out? s Mike. Show US just overarching. I think is is. I do think we have options though to to hit people in different spots and and I think you know you're hoping that that's the the death of your lineup. That gives you that flexibility. I can understand why people question. Well why didn't you add more offense but baseball's interesting game you can go out and sign the best player in the game offensively but if you don't have things around it it won't matter And I think collectively we all recognize that last year was not a good year.

The back end a game so all that was discussed By John Moselle Lock and then towards the end of the day. Jeff Albert Talked it over with the media and that was specifically about the astros cheating scandal and Derek and I talked about this the other day that as we get further along in spring training at least in the initial stages here when players get back in now there in one place in their accessible to the media. It was a busy day yesterday and this Thursday more news. I'm sure will happen as the day goes along Derek Welcome into the Lou fuse automotive studios again. How are you this morning? still busy trying to catch up still writing absolutely welcome to spring. Welcome to spring. It was a busy day yesterday. And I'm going to start with the first news. Which was John Mozilla coming out addressing the media kind of his State of the Union State of the spring and and where things stand anything. Come out of that conversation with the media that stuck out for you you know. It was probably a lot of maybe distillation of the conversations that have continued throughout the winter You know some quick hits. Were you know Carlos Martinez wants to be a starter? The team wants to be a starter. They're gonNA give them every wants him to be a starter. They're going to give him every opportunity to be a starter and Kim is a competitor for that. Bought an alternate for that spot. But you know they're not ruling out both could be in the rotation so it's not a one for one mosaic drew that line You know I talked about the health of some guys. I asked the how they're gonNA look at the offense. Like what are they gonNA use to measure improvement in the offense? It's not like we can hang our hats Or I should say they well as riders. We can't hang our hats on box. Scores were always told to not pay much attention to the actual lines at the box stores. So is that what the team's GonNa do now. They're going to double back on that so I asked him like what are they gonNA use and he said you know while you WanNa see some production you WANNA see some. Opiates you WANNA hear. See some strikeout rates and stuff like that and then I asked. I said well if you want to see who knows what opiates you see here at Roger Dean Stadium which is not a friendly place to hit particularly this time of year. I mean it's pretty. Well known that the Marlins and cardinals hit the fewest home runs in spring training. And it's not necessarily because of the pitching they face here. It's because of the ballpark. They call home for spring. Just not not an easy place to hit. It's not pleasant for hitters. So how do they measure that and I think there? There's an element of that. Like how do you know that the offense hasn't proved Here in spring. How do they see it? And they're going to have to put on their cap as mosaic. Set your watch for things. I found it really interesting too. I was in the media scrum for a little while with you in most said well we gotta figure out a cleanup hitter. A leadoff man. Who's in a rotation who closes? That's a lot of questions for her team. That was just four games away from the World Series. A year ago am trying to capture that a little bit. You know and hope to do that. Hope to do that. In this morning's paper to be honest that you know just kind of look at like all right this just the weird team you know the one that insists a contender. Says that it's a contender. Says it's out to you know defend its division champion yet it embraces. These questions that are that are unfamiliar to contenders. I mean it's not usually you know I mean look around. What other contenders can say. They don't have an answer for all those things right. I mean you know the the nationals. They know who those people are going to be The Astros certainly know who those people are going to be Yankees. Do Dodgers definitely do. I'm ED assistants fascinating. We talked about it the other day. on our podcast that now that teams have officially reported there was going to be more and more information. Come out about what has happened with. Houston Alex Cora Carlos Beltran the list goes on and on and Jeff Albert. The cardinals hitting coach who was affiliated with. Houston for a couple of seasons addressed the media yesterday at Roger Dean Stadium. What did you take away from hearing finally from Jeff Albert and he spoke to us for about twenty minutes Fielded a lot of different questions. you know he I think he appreciated somewhat hesitant to discuss specifics of it In the sense that he was like look more information is coming out. I asked him directly. I'm like do you think your name will surface. Is it a possibility that your name will surface as more revelations come out about this and he said I was with the team in two thousand eighteen? So you know along with you know anything that goes on with that team. Anything is possible. He said it would be quote unquote news to him if he were was tied to it. you know. He participated in the investigation. The commissioner He does office interviewed him. He called that interview pretty short. It was over the phone We knew this The Commissioner Office. They tell me or source with them. Tell I guess it's not the official commissioners but you know I asked around and check with. The Commissioner's office and I was told by two different people that if Albert was involved he would have been named and that he was not named So Jeff offered some details You know we. We asked him if he thought that you know the hitters cheating and if that called into question their production He had an answer for that. I asked if he had seen anything he said no. I asked him if if he had seen anything did he feel like he had. Anybody could talk to any avenue to go in and get you know and have them stop and he also said you know what probably not know which I think is very fascinating to think that even if he was there and wondering if something unethical was going on that he probably didn't have an outlet to to say anything You know I thought that was revealing both for the Astros but also for baseball writ large. You don't feel comfortable calling out something you think is wrong. Then that's that that's a failing of the of the system. Do you think that this puts to rest for Jeff Albert now book and move on Probably Not I think he answered to the scope was comfortable I think there is always going to be an element of Yawn. Tell this group produces there will be a question about how his previous TV produced right so He can put it to rest by distancing himself from the Astros which you know what to be honest. I really didn't do He was highly complimentary of what he called the culture and innovation that he saw there So he he said he did not want to detract from the talent of the hitters. There and I think that was respectful or I think he was trying to be respectful of the hitters. He worked with there. But I think you know because he didn't distance himself from that production than there's going to have to be production with the cardinals to make that happen If if it doesn't happen there will always be questions. I don't think there's any doubt or anything that when he was asked was there anything that he would not address not really no He was asked if he felt the titles were tainted and he. He sort of said that wasn't for him to say I I get so you didn't like directly. Answer that yes or no. But he did say you know. He wasn't there in two thousand seventeen so he wasn't sure if that was for him to say I asked him if he if it if the production of those players was in question and he may have taken a little issue with that suggesting that their talent is. What did the production the McLaughlin here to tell you about the hometown automotive family? I trust the most the loop US automotive network and you know they are saint. I guess security in that regard they have Max rock. They've got You know the guys that are coming back. Sosa I you know. What's your impression on making this type of move Brad Miller is a left handed. Hitter hitting jet Jerko. So there you go. It's basically jet Jerko and they wanted a left handed bat. They've been wanting a left handed bat for the bench and probably many fans wanted that left handed. Bat To be Jack Petersen But you know left. Handed Bat for the bench is something that they've always been shopping for wanting they went out and got a guy who You know small sample size but you know last year would lead cardinals and oak if you wanna go that far So he's I mean he's judge Jerko left-handed two million dollar deal With Sosa Joe's and and Edmund at this point Yup that's the way it's GonNa fall. You Bet what what made you decide to stay at home and go to Slough. Yeah great question I it was interesting. I was reflecting on that the other day and and first of all Always always want to make sure people rich. Our was recruited me so he and his staff in an incredible job of recruiting me and actually there were four or five of us from the Singles Eagles Basketball Club including Julian Winfield a couple of other guys. We all went together either. So they kind of recruits as a group but I will tell you rich ground and his staff did an incredible job handwritten notes every single day from our from the time. I was a sophomore mortels junior until I had actually signed on the dotted line and just the idea of being in my hometown. Being able to play in front of my family and friends get a great education. Wanted to go in the business school. It was just a perfect combination to stay right here in town. What were the other schools you were looking at well? It really came down to Mizzou. I had a visit to you would have been perfect. Yeah you know. Ironically I went on my visit I came back in a week later. They got into sanctions. I don't know if you remember that the early nineties. He's in so. They lost the scholarships that they offered me and three other guys so it was kind of a little bit of an odd time. They were more in the country so it was very tempting that Doug Smith Anthony Peeler. They had had things rolling but that became a little bit more clear to me that I was supposed to stay home once that happened. It was Kinda came down to those two schools. To Visit Su- Minnesota a Stanford Iowa state schools. Like that. When you hear that the number one team in the country is recruiting? You visit put in perspective like man I I belong. I'm I'm pretty good at this. Yeah it was. It was an honor that they would recruit me but it's also scary because I wasn't sure can I really play at this level and I wasn't even sure I could play at Saint Louis until I got there in one of the big things. In addition to coach our in my friends going there was they. The the my freshman year was the first year of the Great Midwest Conference so that was a game changer when you talk about conference affiliation because they went from the MCC to the Great Midwest which included Cincinnati and the state at the time and UAB in Dayton Marquette into Paul and that was a game changer from an opportunity to play at the highest level. So I felt like I could play at the highest level but stay in my hometown and go to the school. I wanted to go to when you watch the game today. It seems like shooting the basketball is is not an art anymore. You're one of the great shooters ever to come out of this town What makes simple question honestly? What makes a great shooter mechanics in? REPETITION is what I was a lot of practice but you can practice the wrong way right. I mean you and I both play golf. You can go out and hit her all day long. And if you're hitting a bra already yeah Jay delsing or other people would say well. You're you're just reinforcing bad habits so really. The important thing is to get the right mechanics early and I had a coach in Memphis Tennessee. Before I moved to Saint Louis who taught me the McCain. I was twelve years old and he taught taught me the right mechanics. I literally never changed my rest of my life. And then it was just a matter of repetition and just wanting to. I just wanted to be a gym rat and just live in the gym but it but if I had bad had mechanics and that's why wouldn't you know you and I do games and and when I see somebody with bad mechanics or the rotations off it just bothers me because I know you can't be a consistently pure shooter mechanics Sarong. You were recruited by rich but then you played a lot for spoon when you think of Charlie Spoon. Our I love him. I did. Games are them. I love being around. It was so much fun. What was it like to play Charlie Spoon? Our it was the best. It was the best in fact. The recruiting process of all the coaches. That recruited me came to my home etc.. I always always thought Charlie spoon our I said that's the God loves to play for a wanted to go to school at Saint. was you but in the process. He was so disarming so fun and you can just tell right away that he truly cared about you as a person and so he came into my sophomore year and it was such a blessing because I ended up getting to play for him and he the first thing he he said to me was after my freshman year we were five and twenty three and he said listen. This is not your job. This is not life and death. This is my job but this is supposed to be fun and we're GonNa Make Basketball Fun for you. We're going to work hard. But we're also going to play hard. And he was consistent to that word from the day he got to the day. I graduated whether I went two for eighteen from the from the field one game. It didn't matter I didn't feel as if he had shame he always would ask me about my family. My grades my girlfriend. Whatever whatever he just truly cared about as you know he's a tool he was authentic? He was genuine in just made a lot of fun. I always say that spoon ball was one of the great eras ever in in basketball. All in this town whether you're talking about high school or college you were in the middle of it. You're the face of it and a lot of ways. You Erwin Claggett H Waldman Donnie Dobbs. All these great names that come from the past if you were to define what spoon ball was how how would you define it. You know it was. It was a fun brand of basketball to watch. I think that's why we had such such great crowds seventeen eighteen thousand people you had. You had a leader like Charlie Spoon Hour. You don't hear often people say. I went to the game to watch a coach but I hear that all the time like the people love to come watch and support Charlie spooner because he was as a person but it was a fun brand of basketball and I credit spoon if you think about his days at southwest Missouri State of Missouri estate the way they played down there was was very much defensive-minded. Slow it down work. The clock Berry hard team team to play against a didn't score a lot of points but he came here solve that we had a different skill. Set you know probably weren't as defensively minded as you like. And and he changed the way he coach based on the personnel which I think ended up being a fun brand of basketball an having a little bit of local connections where you had kids from Saint Louis Louis playing at your hometown school for coach. Charley spoon our really just became magical broadcasting. Now is part of your life. How much do you enjoy it? I love it. I mean I blame you. You got me into it. The ugly row you did you absolutely you said Hey. Have you ever done any television. I said absolutely not he said let's do a game. I got okay here. We are twenty five years later. It's great I love it. I love being with you. I love calling. The Games keeps me connected. I still get butterflies before the game. As if I'm playing the only thing is after after I have. I still have conviction about my hometown team winning but I sleep better at night than I did as a player coach. What do you think about the team now? Under Travis Ford Award and just the style. They play in the excitement. They're starting to bring back to to Billick and basketball. Tell you I love the way. He's building a program. He's building a sustainable program. He did not come in and try to say. This is going to be a quick fix or we're going to get a bunch of junior college players. He bought he bought in freshman and he bought a few transfers to compliment. But he's building it steadily overtime in building a foundation that's building building upon itself in stacking recruiting class. So now on your in your four and I think whether they make the tournament not. This year's team is better than last year there. They have more depth. Yep they're starting to play the style that he wants to play think about. He played for Rick Pitino. He wants to play fast. He wants to get out. He wants to shoot it. He'd like to score more in the seventies and eighties have the personnel yet. To do that. But you're starting to see him build the depth so that he can ultimately play the style. But I think in your four. He's right on track and you know this could be a top twenty five perennial program in Travis. Four we're very lucky to have him. It's kind of you know you look against Aga- and you look at some of these. The the programs that don't play in the the huge power fives but yet they have a great situation of building a situation of a city that supports it. Bilican fans will and the basketball fans here will. I'm kind of with you. I think you can make this into a team that not only gets into the NCAA tournament every year but does some damage. And then you get that one or two kids elite and you never know what happened. Yeah it doesn't take a lot in basketball you. You get a good core foundation. You've got incredible facilities by the best facilities in their league. You've got tons of community support your in a major market yet lots of exposure. And you put that all together with a coach who's dynamic and has has a re dynamic staff that can recruit and attract the right kids and a good culture and a good administration with Chris. May I think they've got all the elements like you. You said be via Gonzaga be a saint. Mary's Xavier a butler. You think about the consistency that those programs have had for the last twenty years. That's what you're trying to build. A Villa Nova. Or what that role might be. But I I imagine though you go into spring training with a little bit more relaxed feel to having a spot on the roster and Noel Roll with this club you know if For me and for me to play the best baseball that I can. I have to show up every day with the attitude that it's GonNa be a fight to make the team So you know. I love to go onto spring training. I love to see all the stink and talent that this team has organization has and I like to think that our I this is awesome. These guys are going to make me better because they are so good and I'm going to have to fight and claw and scratch and hopefully early break camp with this club. You Know I. I think your story is remarkable and for fans who don't know it who were you drafted by independent baseball? And then how did you wind up with the cardinals. Yeah two thousand eleven. I was drafted out of you long university by the Yankees. That kept me for a couple of years. Didn't like what they saw Can't blame him so so so they released me. I played in South Dakota and Sioux Fall South Dakota for one season of independent ball and then I was traded to Laredo team in Laredo. Texas Laredo. LAREDO LEMURS for my second year of Independent Ball Had An amazing time it was. It was the first time in my in a long time in my baseball career that I just kind of went out and and played because I loved it And it gave me a kind of a different appreciation for for how I thought. Baseball ball should be And then the diamondback signed me after After my second year and independent ball out of Laredo. But before I could ever ver- make it out Arizona for spring training. And the cardinals. Pick me up in the minor league rule five draft. And I've been here since and you but the thing was oh physically the fastball developed and that was something that you did maybe not have with the Yankees in a developed as you went along. Didn't it yes. Yeah the When I was in independent but as for as much as I love playing and as much as I was enjoying myself there was still a a very large part of me that that said? Hey let's let's get back into pro ball. I I still thought that I could get better And I wasn't going to quit until I until I had reached what I thought was was. You know my max potential And when I made the decision one day you know hey I think the the quickest way to get out of independent ball and and to get back into affiliated. Baseball was to throw harder order so I just tried to throw harder and it weren't and it happened. Yeah it worked overnight like that. I mean mechanically. Did you do something different. You Know I. I am sure that things changed in my mechanics But the conscious change that I made was that I got to a point where I really felt like I had nothing left to lose And I felt that you know mentally if if I wasn't gonNA make a change in my pitching I wasn't GonNa A. B.. No one's GonNa want me to play baseball much longer So I felt like my back was up against the wall and I had to do something and that sort of Allowed allowed me to have this different intent on the mound. Instead of just trying to throw hard I was trying to throw hard And and you know I'm certainly no I'm Jordan ex my goodness I would love that. I've tried it doesn't work right but it helped me. It added several miles an hour to my fastball And I think helped propel me outside of dependable the beard did it always happen in independent ball two. Or when did this all start for you. probably a month and a half for two months into my first year of Independent Ball. There are a couple of guys on the team that just started growing beards for the kick of it And I thought I'll do that too. Sure what the heck and and I just kind of grew attached to it And the next season I I did it again and I did it with our pitching coach And it was just a a lot of fun and I got into pro ball And had to be a little careful because a colonel sap some you know You gotTa keep it clean and minor leagues So it was a little tricky there but at at this point is funded who yes but it also. It also means a lot because at the beard sort of reminds me of of my time and independent ball and really why I'm here in Wyan plan it's great If you weren't playing baseball all you'd be doing what man plant softball probably in cricket all my all my other favorites. Well No. That's a really good question. John I Put your well read guy you're well-versed well thank you. I I do my best to come across that way and I'm glad I've tricked. You really trickle out of US UH-HUH I I majored in political science In college and but since then you know it's been I feel like every couple of off seasons I find myself off attracted to a new I guess you'd call a hobby. I have a new interest every couple of years. So it's tough for me to pin down what I would want to devote myself in the interest now is what I got real into personal finance a couple of your and a half year baseball player. That's smart especially as the the income grows. And yeah that was that was kind of the impetus it was you know. Oh Wow minor league salary is you know. I'd like to say that. I was living paycheck to paycheck. Check but I wasn't because I had to take money out of what I made when high school exactly you you. It's not quite enough to live paycheck to paycheck and then the major leagues obviously obviously is very different. So I wanted to learn how to best you know. Respect my wallet. There were forty thousand people there that felt like they cared about me And it felt like you know the this gigantic family and that will stick with me forever and it's amazing to. I'm sure the emotions had to be remarkable when you think about okay. Okay I was with the Yankees then all the way down independent ball and now finally after all these years. I've made it it. It all paid off that chance. I took myself paid off. Yeah the you know the I didn't want to have any regrets for throughout my career And I feel like you know when I did finally stepped onto major league field for the first time wearing wearing the uniform of one of the two teams on the field That's when it felt like okay. My my my no regrets system here is I can put a little check mark next to it. You know now this is bonus time now. It's awesome hey thanks sure it and we'll see in spring training that sounds good but still it.

"Yeah I'm probably going to watch that game. which probably makes me hypocrite for all the times were mad at the NFL? So I think people still have an interest but in terms of like supporting it or if it would be a fascinating study of even if we had one game like. Let's say next year. Eight Saint Louis. You're hosting yes that's classic and it's going to be the bears and chiefs at the Dome and come on down now with bears fans its use fan show probably bad example. Yes but Saint Louis fans if you had a team. I think it'd be tough to get everybody back. I remember when the cardinals left. I used to go to those games on Sundays. And I think they there was like some exhibitions between the cardinals. If memory serves correct and the rams and I remember member going down to Bush stadium and watching those because it was football. I didn't understand I was a young kid. I mean I didn't understand the business side of it like I do now and it just makes me sick to my stomach like my wife. My kids love watching the NFL. My oldest does in particular. And she's like you need to take into a chief's game or something I said I'm not spending a dime on the NFL NFL. I'm not doing it if somebody would give me tickets. I would do it and they're going to have to pay for my parking and I'm dead serious and that's that's the mindset I'm talking about. I think a lot of people would say I'm not gonNA give him a dollar now going down there so even if there's a portion that says God I really Miss Football I really want to have it back and hey they gave us a charter. Let's make this work. We don't WANNA look bad in there is again. I just don't think there's enough that would sell it out. I don't think it would be a runaway hit so that time has passed and the big big winners for the blues were big winners and some people who were on the fence about hockey had kind of disposable income and maybe decided to get into that and then the Milan I think as a league. You GonNa take a while but I think at some point and maybe in our lifetime maybe it's in thirty years that the MLS their stock is higher than the NFL because of the injuries and lawsuits and all I definitely think participation in in the sport of football I don't think I know the numbers way down. We down for sure. It's not to say hey that you wouldn't have enough people to that. Played it or had interest in it that you're always going to have that But to the to the point that all these kids are on Saint Louis and other cities cities are playing soccer and if the competition gets better at the MLS level which it is and they marketed. Properly here in town which they will and they're gonNA keep it here because they're Saint Louis INS and they care about the market. I think it's got a chance to be huge in this town. I really do because it's a young person sport. It seems like young people gravitate for whatever reason to that sport. You're always going to have the soccer fan. Saint Louis is the soccer capital if you will of the United States so there's that already born inbred soccer fan here but as young people see it and then experience a game. I don't know if you've ever been to a game. It's it's fun. Never been there great. I mean it's A. It's a tailgate the wearing a scarf But I think they're going to be finer in all of this. I think the fact that it's downtown and younger people be attracted I. I think that's a win for the the city so long term. The Rams Story. I think that's a big part of the lawsuit is people just want. The story told properly so it's not just oh Saint Louis you losers you. You couldn't keep a team right and it did have with the big red but I think that's the narrative didn't go to the games too bad saint Louis and people people just want the truth being told I think that's the number one thing we're very parochial and we're very proud to be from here. We kinda take care of our own and I'm not saying every city doesn't have that feeling too. There's a lot that do but when you're in this town in this market we're very proud of where we're at and You know it's tougher an outsider to come into Saint Louis at times it depends on how they embrace it. We seem to know had embrace people. Sometimes I do. I think it's great when out of town people invest in our town. Why wouldn't we help them? But my point is with this is that it becomes a situation. Where if you in it? I've said this from day one if an owner or a group of people that have an interest in this town if they show just a little bit of love you're going to get it back one hundred percent from the fans. I mean hundred times. What they give they're going to get back and that's the way it was? I think one but to your point about crowds thank character had this in one of the notes that he brought. I mean he's all over it but two thousand eleven cardinals are making that run. There was like a Sunday game against the rams the rams out drew the cardinals and the rams are awful in two thousand eleven as you pointed out earlier the the support was there. And that's the thing. I think that really bothers people people. It's like wait a minute now. This team was supported at one point. They had the worst five-year run in the history of the League. And it's still selling out that that kind of stuff needs to be told and I don't think it has been told and that's what frustrates a lot of people. And I think the rams would like to say well the dorm experience a terrible dome was terrible and it was not a great football experience but when you had a really good team nobody noticed. Dick for meal talked about that. First playoff game against the vikings he said known Isaac's going down in straight up and looking at the video board watching himself run on waving the noodles in the crowd. Any said I've never seen anything like it loudest place or seen. The building was just fine when the team was good everywhere and so that narrative narrative also I agree. It wasn't a great football experience so the team had to be good for you to be really excited about going down there and then by the last year and a half the specter factor them. Leaving 'cause a lot of people not to go at all I think that's the main thing is tell the story the way it was told. This is the rams organization with them off on our station. Say we're going to London for you. Know a couple of games here and the people that well. Why are you going to be great for everybody like why is it now? I was told him but it was at least twice the revenue for a game. They would try. Were there so it made financial sense but again just tell the truth and say listen. This is a big win for us and we can do a little more with that money or whatever but it to say this is exciting. Saint Louis was what finally wise. Why is exciting? Here's to find a question in as I mentioned before you're still tied in with some of the folks out in La that were here in Saint Louis and Yeah less so than ever but yeah What do you think the the end result is with this lawsuit and what happens with all the different things that are pending right now with that? I think there'll be a settlement settlement and I didn't think early on. I thought it would just get swatted away in the NFL and their powerful lawyers did the city of Saint Louis. Those lawyers are going to settle. I don't know man I I think they wanna take this thing maybe to the end. Yeah I think it's going to be a couple of years by then we'll be at the UH SDN studios yes we will and the high rise downtown sandwich elite I just feel like it'll like these guys these billionaires they don't end up in court they don't end up to pose. I mean I'd love to see all of that. I just have a feeling that there might be a number. They get to they say all right they made him sweat. They pissed them off and then they finally had to write a big check. If Stan personally right it in the League says standing to settle he'll give you one hundred million then they might leave the low end. Yeah I don't know but I just I do think it'll be a settlement at some point but that's going to be a couple more years I bet. Just drag it out as a fan or you said football you just like whatever I'm I'm over it you know I'm over it. I'm not sad I I do miss the building the thing I loved about the NFL Sports Guy Covering it was the bill. I love the game being Sunday. And it's always talked about and went crazy and on Monday go. What were they thinking? This is the worst call ever and about wins ego. WHO's coming it down? Oh the Ravens. Oh they got zone Joensuu and you really had this build up to who they're going to match up against and we had a lot to really good shows. I think that pre game shows and we break it down a lot of great eight people even like Lovey Smith. When he was on the Mike Martz staff would come on our pre game? Show you know our plus before the game and the NFL. Nobody's available on a game day. Yeah and and he told me he said Martin. I want to get better at doing interviews and being on TV. He knew what he wanted to be was a head coach and part of it is media and we had a a lot of fun. I mean travel. I was thinking to Bryan Burwell. You know five year anniversary of him passing. We did a lot of shows from the road. So there's still a lot of great memories mixed in there. Yeah but but I'd say in my over it. Yeah it doesn't keep me up at night right. I'm not on. Dan was what bidder slightly better. I'm probably ambivalent at this point. I think for the station. It was lost at least a million dollars a year Fox to he's added riot. What I was told is loosely? The number of the impact. Well that's the other thing too. The the the tentacles of an organization city. It's not just a pride in the things that go on with it. In the fact that the avid team but the jobs and the charities that they supported noted that are just gone boom. Snap of a finger audios and even the players that were here that were involved in charities that were making millions of dollars and then in had pet causes not pets but maybe some but had charitable causes they believed so you lose that base every guy. Who's on the team? That's quarterback and he makes five million and he gets involved with your charity or the running gags ten minute he gets involved. You lose that I mean and those are the lawsuit. But that's part of the disappointment. Sure Hey this is fun do we read. We did read some mail I. I'm obsessed with the male. Dan Lewis had a bunch of male common had a bunch of emails. I should have done that but this guy reached out to me and and mail in twitter and I thought I need to do that. One in I did cover a lot of what the questions were that were coming in so yeah I think it's a fascinating story in the fact that there will be told I think in full especially if if the lawsuit is settled. Then at that point you say if you're a reporter you're saying and I also said five minutes ago this the final thing but if you're a reporter you say well why did you settle a lawsuit. What was in it and why you know in you dig it up and then all of a I said when that comes up at least for me I would feel better? I as a Saint Louis Guy if people knew what the hell happened here that would make me feel much which better over the situation still bring football back but at least it brings some of the pride back in. I don't know prides I worked..

"Do you throw something at your TV. 'CAUSE you're getting pissed off at something I said or will you please. Lee Say this or address this No not that. Oh you mean like a mad at the announcers. Yeah not that often honestly I I guess I can start watching closer. Is that what you're telling me. Yeah I mean I would appreciate that since you make a living out of this five six. You know what's hard is that. It's not hard okay. I get it we all have jobs and everybody's Some kids nowadays. You have a fun job my most times. We are still a lot of. Bs that goes with. It is a lot of hours. Lot of being away from your family. I always say that they pay pay me and I I bet you feel the same way. 'cause you're on it. What five six and ten? I know you're on nine and ten. Charlie has the opportunity to be there. Eleven twenty right young young attractive late night for eye candy. That's what you get. He's not I candy but anyway that's what he told me. Well that's good. It's hard being away from your kids. I me I always say they pay me to be away from my family. That's the hard part you know. I mean you're sitting there on a ten day road trip in. You're listening to your family and your wife calling calling you up in it. This is not about. Oh poor me. Dan and I look great living and I love what I do but that is the hard part you miss out on a lot and for me. It's the summer months so it's when my kids are at home and when you don't see him I mean there's a lot of regret that goes into that a lot of pissed off the you you know at yourself like is this really worth it might doing you know but the the upside is this what I always wanted to do and everything comes at a sacrifice so Soviet people people always said what would you do and I like asking other people that question. What am I favored answers with? Mike Jones Gamay the TAC. Yeah Rams who were part of a panel one night or Rams Related Event Isaac Bruce and said what would everybody. What was the backup plan? If you didn't play football you WanNa professional and Mike Jones. I was going to be a firefighter. I grew up in Kansas City. My Dad and my uncles everybody. I'm like Oh that's really interesting. When I've been asked that I always say college professor? I'm high school. Yeah and somebody said God. That's really noble. Martin you WANNA help kids. There's no I had this figured out. I'd be off summers. I said I'd have season tickets to the teams basketball football team. Adventure get tenured. Okay and I'd be in front of the cloud work a couple of classes a day awesome awesome and they all worked their tails off. I just in my mind I was GonNa Kinda Mail it in as a professor and I was going to schedule I think college this is what I'd like to get it into I. I I get to give my opinions on this stuff I think college is I look at my fourteen twelve in twins that are ten. I look at what I'm going to be paying if they're not under scholarship of some sort or their out of state. Jesus it's it. It's the biggest farce in this country. It is I mean you have to have a degree I mean I mean honestly if you're GonNa make it not always you have to have a degree but generally speaking you have to have a college diploma and you're thinking okay. That's four or five years of schooling rolling and depending where they're going what fifty to one hundred grand a year. I mean that's what it is. It's going cross cost. I'm like are you kidding me. I mean that there's no way it should be that kind of money. Every everybody should be afforded the opportunity to get that degree and unfortunately for a lot of people. There's not that pisses me off. Dan unplugged on the rising rate of college tuition. No and it's not just because I mean it's what I deal with. It's just I. Everybody should have that opportunity. Because if you if you don't get that degree a lot of times you pigeonholed. I'm not saying here's what I told my kids world needs ditch diggers. Danny look. I'd rather oh you know what I don't know if you feel this way I'd rather tell my kids. Here's the money that you'd be getting to go to college okay. Whatever that that number is I'd rather at at the age of eighteen? Take an I understand college. It's about the experience being away from your parents and balancing a checkbook and your credit cards and doing your laundry and making your own meals and figuring out how how to live I get it. But here's that money and go start a business go really learn. Go dig go figure out how to do these things. Because that's it's really what it's GonNa come down to when you get out of college. How many times do you ever sit there and go? God Yeah Okay. I'm sitting here at the nine. I've got only five minutes to turn this soundbite around with a story. Get it on a prompt or make sure my producer knows and do it that Blah Blah Blah. I mean well yeah I I remember back in junior year at Marquette where you went all yeah. They taught us how to do that. taught you knew that kind of stuff. It's trial and error. It's about trying to learn how to do the business. And that is my biggest problem with coming out of college. College is how truly prepared. Are these people if now if you're in a specialized field architecture or being a doctor or something like that real stuff right cast broadcasters but as I always tell kids and I think it pisses off the teachers when I go and speak everything that you're learning in. It's not just the rich nukes dot and you'll know it's good Mondays with Mona on our chance to visit with John Moselle the president of baseball operations and Mo- yesterday clearly a very tough loss tough series. Let's start with Carlos. Martinez is what is his status and what was his status yesterday just to clear it up for some of the fans well when he's out in Denver. He was experiencing uh-huh respiratory and breathing issues we've thought at the time it was mostly just aller tease or maybe altitude but you know experienced variance again on. Saturday had to go to the hospital. still not exactly sure what he's doing. He's got some different types of medication to try to help with that that but he just wasn't available yesterday so day to day and hopefully Should we need them tonight. He'll be ready to go. Do you find out when he gets to the ballpark tonight or do. You have a better sure I d this morning. I hope to share something mid day but I'll know that later today what what to status for fans you could understand it. Mo- wins and losses boy. It's it's gut wrenching. How about from your seat. How tough how are the losses and how satisfying are the winds. Sometimes as you go all along in the late season well I definitely would say like days like yesterday or are much harder and and you feel it more even than if you were to win I always said winning sort of you it's a moment in time and then you're onto the next one sometimes losses feel like they linger a little bit but baseball is an interesting business you have to you have to turn the page and you know as I was telling. Some people asked night. essay were sort of sad and sulking. I was just telling them that. We're still in first place we still are control our own destiny and the the best approach is to put this behind us and start focusing on what we have to do today and so you know. I suspect from a managerial standpoint coaching standpoint point. That's where our heads are going to be and I know players think like that. So you know I think today is is just what you have to think about. It's a new day. Mike has done a great job Kazini about you know really staying in the moment with his guys and making sure that they feel that way that he expresses. Stay in the moment play in the moment well I. I really really believe that that players today realize that you have to otherwise this game can just beat you up and you know you. You learn learn over time that I think fans writers. I sometimes feel like they they get mad at us because we're not overly emotional about a loss like they get frustrated that we don't care as much as them. It's not that we don't care as much we just know that our job is to turn the page and I think that's hard for some people little except at times but that's reality and that's how we're going to treat today and hopefully we we end with a fist pumps and smiles tonight absolutely couple of guys really of emerged and one that I I'm I'm so intrigued with Genesis Cabrera that if you get into postseason play could be a weapon is is he emerging as we go. Go down the stretch for you. Yeah I think this year has been very important for him. In terms of you know when we traded for them we we were excited about his arm and we knew it was dynamic but there were still some things that he had to do to to be consistent at the major league level but I think everybody is starting to see why I were so excited about him when we acquired him in the trade and it it's easy to envision him being a a part of our club whether it's if we get to postseason org definitely impactful next year so definitely excited about what you're seeing out of him. I know you'd never liked to pay a guy one way or another or put yourself in a corner. I will ask the question now. Look at it more as a reliever or starter moving forward well I would. I would definitely think we'd bring him in as a starter for spring in training next year because he's already been stretch out he's showing he can do that and then if there's no spots for him then he could easily go into the bullpen. I'm sure Justin Williams was the other part of that deal and he came on late. I I was curious if you thought about bringing him up because he's a left handed bat now you do have a lot outfielders but the idea of a left handed bat and he had really picked it up at the end. was there any thought to bring him up at the tail end of the season. Yes there was a a lot of discussion about him and I think really it just came down to a numbers game here at the Big Leagues in terms of opportunity but you know it was great because because you know the the year was definitely lost year for him but to have him finish the way he did was very important. Ryan Helmsley's another guy now tough day yesterday but he is emerged. What have you thought about the progression that you've seen Ryan from this year. Well you can see why we liked him. I think the biggest difference for him is being able to command the strike zone. You know you know when you think back to yesterday's game and and you know clearly walk Scott us but we found ourselves especially in those last three innings and a lot of two who accounts getting ahead is so important and you know I think housing will tell you that that's gotta be what he does too and so when you when you find yourself on those defensive counts trouble trouble happens and so I think one of his strengths of Ben when he was up here throwing strikes and you know certainly the for him to be successful he asked to are you ready for the boys of summer well pulled up a front row seated hotshot sports bar and grill for all the cardinals action this season at one of their eleven area locations during every cardinals game you can enjoy the new hotshot strip apply special featuring during a large pizza order boneless wings and a bucket of blood family bottles available for a great price also be sure to join the Party on the last Tuesday ebb each month this season for hotshots ticket Tuesday and your shot discover a pair of tickets to an upcoming game. He's got a shot now at a you know thirty five home run season and close to one hundred. RBI is how would you generally speaking and the defense which has been outstanding. How would you look at his first years of cardinal well. I I I think he's done so much for us and clearly I think people gravitate gravitate just to the offensive numbers but what is meant to US defensively what he's meant to us in the clubhouse. He was as advertised. I mean he really is a special man. He's he's. He's someone that that really cares about our community. He someone that wants to be a part of our community and so I think that the goal the Paul Goldschmidt era will only get better as as we as we move on but certainly excited to see what he's being able to do for us. It really has been impactful two more questions. We'll let you go dylan. Carlson not go into to the Arizona Fall League. Just kinda take a break getting a little stronger ready for spring. Is that the idea yeah I spoke with him and he really felt like his off season. Training last year prepared him well for for the year he had and he just like to repeat that talked with our performance people. We're in agreement that there really wasn't much for him to prove or gain aim by going to the fall league so ultimately it was we decided it was just in his best interest to to repeat what he did last year and hopefully come to camp ready to go and finally you know so many people talk about ozone a- and would you bring him back or this guy or that guy. Adam wainwright is a guy that so intriguing ending. He's had a really good year mo how you know how do you look at his year and how things have unfolded for Adam. WAINWRIGHT had a great year he's been one of our UH rocks and our rotation and certainly at some point at his agent and I will price it down and see what the future holds great staff. Thanks so much the catch up next Monday and good luck tonight will see at the Ballpark Dr. It sounds great. Thanks bye-bye..

"Point four five. Era Their starters two point four there relievers two point five six a league best two point seven eight fielding independent pitching a strikeout rate second best in baseball of nine point four one per nine innings a major league baseball best walk rate of two point. Oh eight a sparkling one point six three walks per nine innings by their starters and an eye popping six point four wins above replacement by their pitching staff their starters accounting for five point three wins above replacement one win about replacement for their relievers the cardinals meanwhile treaded water on their way to a five hundred record at about league average bridge marks now. This isn't to say that the cardinals were dealing with some injuries Carlos. Martinez was shut down late in the year. Adam wainwright was still working his way back from an Achilles Italy's debt would land him in the bullpen. I'll be effective role in the postseason but the cardinal's collectively posted a four point one eight. Era a four point one three fielding Alina independent pitching their walk rate was fifteen database bond three point four five and they're pitching wins above replacement just one point four twenty third in baseball simply put the cardinals pitching was just okay in the month of September that's why they were fifteen and sixteen and that's why despite the fact that they won one hundred games they finished his three games in front of the cubs and eventually would lose the cubs in the NL DS. This year is a much different story as the cardinals pitching has been great and shows no signs of slowing down the cardinals also get the luxury of facing the Colorado rockies for three games before coming home from acid stand against Milwaukee in Washington and then wrapping up seven of their final ten games against the cubs that'd be Michael Walker against Chichi Gonzalez Tonight Hudson and sent to tell it tomorrow Michael Nicolas Melville on Thursday a matinee before the team heads home but I can imagine it will be a much different flight from Colorado to Saint Louis and the flight from the West Coast back on August the seventh after dropping a heartbreaker to one as the dodgers walked off the cardinals against you you guessed it eight sterling from Jack Flaherty Carlos Martinez coughing things up in the ninth cardinals pitching his carried them to this point and although twenty eighteen fifteen shares the fact that their adverts had a lead in the middle of September that they appear to potentially be in position to have next week. Things are much different different. The cardinals are executing. The pitching appears to be getting better and the cubs mirror more than one hundred fifteen cardinals than the twenty fifteen cubs. Certainly only seven of the last ten against Chicago will go a long way in determining things and things could change before next weekend series at Wrigley but for right now for the cardinals staff and their club Bob it's full steam ahead to the rocky mountains for scoops with DOT COM. It is officially been one month since the cardinals turned things around in a big way on August ninth before their game against the Pittsburgh pirates at Busch stadium after the Owen five trip through California the cardinals were fifty eight and fifty five in third place in the National League central and four games games behind the Chicago cubs since then the cardinals along with the braves have put up the best record in baseball twenty three and seven and a couple of games in front of the best records in the American League Tampa and the Houston Astros cubs meanwhile fourteen and fourteen since that point the brewers are fifteen nine and twelve the cardinals eight games better than the cubs over that span as they had into Colorado tonight to begin a three-game series against Iraqis rockies who have been a major league baseball worst eight and twenty one over that stretch matching the Miami Marlins Detroit Tigers and the Baltimore Orioles Israel's. What comparisons can we draw from this year and two thousand fifteen mid-september the last time the cardinals lead in the division. Was this large judge for scoops with Danny AMAC DOT COM. It's ironic. The cardinals haven't made up any ground on on the Atlanta braves over the last thirty days. They have been simply fantastic but that could be a story for the first round of the playoffs. The braves two point six seven starters starters. Era over the last month since the night of August is just in front of the cardinals two point six eight the only teams that are below three and are both half front better than the Cleveland Indians the cardinals bullpen has been fantastic as well but the execution and the management of the pen by Mike. Show Mike Maddox and Brian ever skirt the cardinals have the best bullpen era in the National League over the last month at three point two seven and second in baseball only to the Minnesota sort of twins offensively during this great stretch. We've seen the cardinals put up pretty good numbers as well as a team. They're batting average of two sixty. Nine is sixth best in major ager league baseball. They've posted a three fifty on base and a four forty five slugging percentage. So what comparisons can we draw from now to two thousand fifteen the last time the cardinals held the lead this large division at this time of year ironically. It was the cubs who put on a late season sprint in two thousand fifteen as the cardinals also played about five hundred baseball similar to what the cubs are doing this year. The colonels were fifty eight and fifty five through one hundred thirteen games this this year as they tried to chase down the Chicago cubs beginning with that series in Pittsburgh on the ninth of August back in two thousand and fifteen through one hundred thirteen eighteen games. The cardinals were seventy three and forty. The cubs were sixty five and forty eight over the next thirty games. The cardinals went sixteen and fourteen over the same stretch. The cubs went twenty one and eleven so they did start to close the gap through the first nine games of September the mark mark that we've reached already this year the cardinals have gone six and three in two thousand fifteen the cardinals went three and six the cubs have gone four and fourth through the start of September this year sure they went seven and two back in two thousand fifteen over the entire month of September and October. The cardinals played just under five hundred baseball fifteen and sixteen and the cubs twenty three and thirty nine so what was different in twenty fifteen and what will be the difference this year. The answer is simple. The answer is pitching. Remember all those numbers I just rattled off as how the cardinals pitching has fared since they started their run of twenty three wins and thirty games back in the first week of August there at the top of every category in major league baseball the cubs are at the top of every category Major League Baseball back in Twenty fifteen and and it was their pitching that carried them to ninety seven wins in the National League Championship series it was their pitching that closed the gap from an eight-game deficit the first week of August two just a three-game deficit behind the cardinals as the season wrapped up and they headed to Pittsburgh to win a wildcard game and then eventually knocked the cardinals often four games in the National League divisional series. I'll take you back to September of two thousand fifteen the Chicago cubs lead baseball on almost every pitching category a league best two.

A lot of folks don't know more cooper unless they're historians but a very important pitcher for the cardinals in the forties when they <hes> one three ships and you know very serving dish famous well how about izzy and enrolling when you think yeah those two guys i think he will get in at some point but it is a great debate to think about those three well you know this is really a time to i thought keeping his was deserving has been deserving but you know he came at stigma of having also played with the mets and been a part of a championship team there as well well so there are some fans who hold that against him as well as the circumstances by which he last count but if you look at the history cardinals in terms of productivity from first basement lynch and his ability defensively he's one of the greatest first baseman in team history and and hopefully okay. I want to ask you to about lane. Thomas as we switch gears lane tom tom is i know you saw upfront and close awful lot. Gimme the background on this young man because i think he's going to be a player before it's all said and done really got a bonus would link thomas in one of the years where they were under penalty for international science because of the houston hacking incident could only spend three hundred doc thirty three hundred thousand dollars per player so they hid money allocation that they couldn't use they traded to toronto who wanted to spend some more money on a on an international player and got got lane thomasson return. He had a good history with toronto. Stubby clapp knew him from when he was in the organization but thomas was injured a lot early in the minor leaks and frankly right after he got to the cardinals in palm beach. He got injured only played nine games. Its first year had a breakout. Season in two thousand eighteen actually led the system in home. Runs aunts had one more than <hes>. Here's the bear who am excuse me taylor. O.'neil who spent part of the saint louis cometh is very very strong. All all around player has great skill. He's he can hit. He has gained power he can <hes> can field. Well is that of roughly a fifty on the twenty two eighty scale on the field. <hes> also has a very good throwing arm of course mclean comment and he of course he can play all over her. Three defensive. Positions in the outfield is very good center fielder. The question is willing. Thomas be a starting outfielder in the majors or will he be a reserve and unfortunately elite this time he hasn't under the best of the question when he has been given the opportunity produced done well but it's been still such a small sample the inclusion yet about what his future role will be with saint louis when you think of <hes> harrison baiter he's now back with the club arose arena going back down to did the minor leagues. He rejoined saint louis last night. I'm curious when you look at harrison did. What did you see that that gave him. You know some some caused for hope in the club at cause for hope is he was sent back down to the minors. What was he doing right. Harrison bit like coming up through the system. They left handed pitching <hes> and even lost that was saint louis he just sort of lost his mojo and when he went down to memphis <music> only hit right in pitching it left hit right in this very very well downtown on the in the inmate i think he was a nine game hitting streaks getting four hundred over his last <hes> last week and a half with memphis. He's seeing the ball hitting the ball very well. Of course we know is defensive portfolio so the question question will be you know in this crowded outfield mix is how many how long will harrison get to play and prove that his dad is because as you you will know probably everyone knows tyler kneels be hatch and you know he was starting in less fuel before zanger. <hes> jose martinez is also so not too far away so land rosters expanded september you could ever rose arena back so you know there's all these guys are gonna competing be competing for pass and tinley. Speaking osuna in extra sour have been in the lineup most days meaning. <hes> you know there's one spot for all these guys to compete for daniel. Leone is pitched. I wells since he went back to the minor leagues and it looks like he's been able to for the most part control the strike zone which has been his big issue. That's absolutely right. I mean we've all seen scene when daniel has on he's almost unhittable but that ball has to be moving but still registering within the scribes and just to give you a perspective in last research eighteen innings <hes> no runs allowed for daniel only five blocks twenty eight strikeouts twenty eight strikeouts in eighteen inning with math i so i mean the results are phenomenal. Banners are hitting to twelve against them so we're gonna see daniel certainly within the you know in ten days so in memphis seasons and kill no likely to get back into the least along relief mix is not get a spot spot her two down the road. How 'bout <hes> also a guy that i just wanna keep tabs on. He might be added to the forty man at some point and that's jake woodford. I was been faring get ahead a rough month <hes> his last out he was better which was good to see because <hes> his last three innings he said the right around five the walks are up. The scouts are still there but the walks out amp but he's been hit around pretty well as well so this is kind of a crucial time for woodford not because memphis is necessarily surly going anywhere because they're not but you know he's not on the forty man roster as you said and this is a chance where he could show that he might be deserving to come to saint louis you know his numbers are standing out well enough that that is certainly should happen and then finally in terms of and i know you wrote about about this recently in the last seven ten days or so who else do you think outside of daniel pyne staley own and some of the other guys we already mentioned that could get called up anybody else. Catch your attention that might get called up when september ends well. Two.
