"We're all sitting here saying man. The dude is one of the best in line blockers so to me. I think he's he can get there. I don't know if he'll ever be great at it. I think that obviously he's probably just too damn long and athletic to like really be a just great hunker down blocker mum but so i think that that is why we will see him. Maybe spread out a little bit more than just purely in line. So that's where i think. Hayden her still fits tional. Y tight end with his hand in the dirt is able to to give you something you know. They also brought in smith in. They'll have their traditional blocking role type of of tight ends but even on plays where kyle hits is is essentially in a titan. Maybe split out in the slot a little bit. That's probably still your frontside. And if hidden hearst is in line kind of on that left side or whatever and the in this position in this example. I'm envisioning the play. Going at the right hayden hearses is still on the line. Scrimmage on your left side hand in the dirt. Whatever that gives nat a quick option. If let's say the play is a boot quick three yard four yard five yard out in hearst is there if it's one of these longer slew crossing routes you know the under sam over mike type of thing hayden hers can run that route really well. The thing that the dirk koetter always said and dan quinn always reiterated which didn't strike me watching him in baltimore but they always said that he was such a good vertical downfield seem tight end and i saw that at times in training camp and practice and he made some amazing catches. Just basically beating her and running a vertical. So i wonder if we're gonna see more instances of that but while all the defense is looking at kyle pits or looking at kelvin hayden. Hearst is a phenomenal. he's automatically. I think the best number two tight end in the league right now yes pans out so i think that on the place where they ask kyle pits maybe not be tight end and hayden's the defacto number one. He's still a starting. You don't lose anything there and on the place where it is kind of a true twelve personnel and both pits and hearst or tight ends. You can go to either side of that. Play with confidence and with somebody. Who can you know not only make the average play but potentially make a big play as we saw from hayden hurson cowboys game. I mean edition that allot everybody's looking at number eight. Run down the field and what you just pointed out with the two of them on the field. It's almost guaranteed that With calvin on one side russell on the other they're gonna take the top two corners. Calvin will probably take some safety help as well over the top potentially based on the formation they start off with Which means cal pits. Probably going to draw either your next safety or your best linebacker which means hayden. Hearse is going to essentially often draw a one match up with your second or third Best coverage linebacker and there are very few teams in the nfl that have great coverage linebackers across the board and that is going to be a favorable matchup for hayden. I think repeatedly throughout the season unless they go up against you know some of the best defense is in league. And they'll they'll certainly do that. Tampa bay they'll. I think they'll see a lot of zoned and i think that's inevitable because it's going to be nearly impossible to try to commit that many individual one matchups. You're gonna get beat someone who's going to beat you that in those situations. But here's the thing. A matt ryan is a very intelligent quarterback and he knows how to beat zone. It's something he's done very well throughout his career As you mentioned his physical skills may not be quite where they used to be but his mental acumen. I think is still one of the best in the league. And yeah i if you're gonna go man you're going to get beat if you're going to go zone good luck. This is a a really for i. Think at this point the best way to defend the falcons twelve formation is to get to the quarterback when it's when it's passed so now i do want to talk about the guys further down the roster cause they matter and especially in this position group because The running game is going to matter more this year than it has over the past several years under cutter before we talked about this guys. Take a quick break. We'll be right back Support for this episode comes.

"August is right around the corner The from a pure talent standpoint. There's no denying it. you know you former. I trump pig superstar ohio state. There's a lot to be excited about. is injury questions. Kinda make you be a little bit cautious. He's not even gonna start healthy. That's my that's my. That's my real. That's my real expectation. Because i expect a month. Because he to start i i do I think that he'll get reps in there. And i think that he's a perfect fit for what quinn wants. As a single high free safety in cover three looks. The issue is complete liability against the run. He always gets hurt and honestly he just hasn't really been the guy that we expected coming out of ohio state. And that's part of our issue as well as we are still holding onto the draft stock that we had put into him in the first place and those narratives take a long time to die. Look at how long it took for us to actually give dak prescott chick not us. But the the group as a whole gave dak prescott chance coming out as a fourth rounder compared to jared dolphin carson wentz me it took until this past year when it was no longer. Even a question that you couldn't even question it if he was or if he was not better than those two. So we kinda hold onto those things a little bit. I still think that he could be really good for this cowboys scheme. I just think that. Dan quinn is going to want to go with his guy in there to start the season so before we go by yourself a hype of him. Sal do so so but truly truly just because like to get your thoughts on a to like who would you say like restate jeff. He would be more talented. 'cause there there just hasn't been talented safeties dollars. Oh no no. I mean i think that and and wilson and the to better safeties on the team most likely i think it'd be hits his potential that he hasn't hit in. Its time in indy. I mean you're you're talking about the best safety. Darren woodson bright does and that's kind of what but i just. I'm not expecting that. And i never will expect that. And he might go out there and he might blow up camp. And that's something that we'll talk about. Kim doesn't matter is we're in the grand scheme of things. What we see in camp is not what we will see in real life. It matters though like the videos we see. Don't matter like what matters what matters is how guys are performing comparatively to each other mcnally techniques. Like all of that stuff is what training camps for the season and it reminds me of the hype from a player at the same position xavier woods when he had that huge trade it was going to be a pro bowler. Yeah everybody's talking about him being same thing. He's best safety students. Maybe within the case was and we all fall for it because all this time of the year is when we get into our most optimistic about these football teams and we just we just let our guards down. We get a little hopeful and that hope that we have in our heads starts to creep in and and i. I'm not coming in here to be debbie. Downer already said is going to go twelve and five. They're going to win. The dog is going to be the. Mvp i just wanna keep things realistic because this is just a thing. Where like all fans get too hyped up. I it happens to me every year. Yeah rog trying to let it happen to me this year. But i think that maliki cocoa situation we can be a very very big upside signing for the dallas cowboys. I just realistically don't expect all that much from him. Coal you buy and on on the hype of lily cooker as far as him being impact guy starting in the secondary. I will buy that. I think he has to town to do that. Obviously think he can be a big contributor for the defense. But if you're talking about the hype semi were saying he can change the defense around mickey top union all that. I definitely selling that I i on games. He's gonna play if he can be healthy If you can see on field all that kind of stuff. I do think he can be a solid player for the cowboys. I just don't think you should. I think you should be reasonable with your expectations. If that makes sense. I'm going to buy that. He can be a quality player on the defense. But i'm not going to sell kind of what we talked about. You know he's not going to change the overall aspect of the defense such as not you know if he if he stays fully healthy and he takes a step that we thought he could've taken in two thousand eighteen nineteen. Maybe but you know. I think even if he shows up plays like he did in two thousand eighteen in two thousand nineteen with the colts where he had two interceptions. Each year played a free safety spot in indianapolis like if he didn't even just do that. Play thirteen fourteen games for you. Interchange with d'amato z. Donovan wilson cooker you float. And maybe some reggie robinson you float in some of those other down the depth charge guys feel like he can be a help on your defense. He's just not going to change the overall strength of it so i think he can. I can buy that. He can be a quality player on the defense. He can help defense. But i got cell that he's going to be this big time. Massive difference maker would that. Let's stay on the defense and go to randy gregory over the last week or so practices. We've had about five practices and the books now. A lot of the hype has been around randy gregory his ability to win and team his building win and wanna ones like he's just looked like a completely rebuilt player. What are you guys thinking of ready. Gregory's twenty twenty one season. Are you buying or selling the hype around ninety four. Here's the thing is the pads aren't even on yet. What what are we doing literally. The pants aren't even on yet. They're not even playing real football yet. So how am. I supposed to height for rainy gregory when i haven't seen them with football pads actually going full contact with that. Set absolutely buying the hype on rainy. Gregory guys i mean. I think i honestly believe we're going to see like a robert quinn type of year from them from a listen. We might not get all of the sax. Because i do think that eventually with his type of athleticism i do think will get to the quarterback all in the same type of way that demarcus lawrence does gets to. We might not finish a ton of sexy might finish with eight or nine sacks for the year but his impact is going to be so much greater. I think that he's transformed his body. I think that he's in a good place mentally. And i think we are finally going to. He's still pretty young. Yeah he's twenty seven right sony. I i really think we're going to see the best rain gregory we obscene and whether the production actually comes out or not. I don't know. I think you're going to get a really quality defensive end on the opposite side of demarcus lawrence and then when you add in mike parsons who they do..

"Cowboys seemingly healthy enough like you said all those injuries. The big names don't seem to be seriously hurt. ask you though who's like standing out in cowboys camp so far. Are there any like exciting players that have kind of rose to the occasion. So far so mike. Parsons is obviously standing out. He's i think you know already one of the best players On this defense and that was kind of obvious even coming into it but randy gregory rand gregory. Somebody that i think. A lot of people who aren't cowboys fans might have forgotten about the team's second round traffic in two thousand fifteen Has played sparingly been suspended off and on Most of those suspensions All the suspensions had to do with testing positive for marijuana. The nfl has since altered their stance on that this off season. This is randy's first full year offseason wise with the dallas cowboys since his rookie year. Two thousand fifteen He does look to be in shape in their. You know jerry jones will tell you. There's not a lot of tread on the tires. And that's true. Although the fact that he's never he hasn't played a full regular forever is certainly caused for. Just you know slowly waiting into these waters but he does look right. And that's really encouraging. I would say maybe the star early on and this will maybe cause. Some bowling of the is is defensive coordinator. Dan quinn he has. He has really kind of want people over. The this is i realized hanging fruit. But he's doing things like this. It'd been you when you come from a situation where you had mike nolan last year. Everything's a breath of fresh air to be clear but before and after practice working one on one with players his press conferences. You just sound so you know mike. Nolan's press conferences last year. Involved him telling us you got tabasco in his eyes to be clear. How low the mars But dan quinn. Dan quit clearly a teacher. And i think that we saw that in atlanta even and certainly saw that in seattle and that was really needed sorely needed for this team he He wears jordan's which is got a lotta people all you know. Gosh the dc's weren't some jay's And i don't know if you saw this story biaggi. He mentioned that over the off season. He played run dmc for defensive players. Did you see this story. No so he mentioned that he is a fast talker fast speaker. I don't know. I think are both relatively fast talking. So we can certainly empathize and so an exercise to kind of prove to them that they would not be able to take notes off everything he said he played a run dmc song for them and challenge them to write all of the words in the or as many of the words in the song they possibly could and i think the winner got like two lines of the song Every players had like. Yeah it was crazy with super blah blah and his whole point was look. You're not going to be able to take notes on everything this is about absorbing the information etc etcetera. I know the system that i'm teaching you etc so my point is setting. This up is because this is the last episode of the mid state that people are going to hear before the first episode of hard knocks next week. Air to see a lot of dan quinn and a lot of stuff like this definitely. I was gonna ask you that. So good Point wondering when exactly it began so that'll be interesting to see obviously will i'm sure that will provide some content for this in two weeks. I was wrong so segment lied to list. That's i mean we never lie to the listener. So that's the goal of the podcast. I don't know why you would do that. As far as the hype thing or the cowboys defense goes this kind of reminds me. As you're saying this like dan quinn. Just being the new version of mike mccarthy like where you know your your previous defensive coordinator mike nolan whereas like gary just like the new guys better automatically you. Bring him in. He's enough great over the any might be. I'm not gonna roll that out. I think actually in fact he is just because by virtue of mike nolan not being like a real defensive coordinator option in the year twenty twenty. It's not there was never really a real hiring to me. This isn't this isn't gonna work out. So as i do. You know i patrol all the other. Nfc east espionage and blogs. And i was looking at blocking the boys recently. Because i you know. I put these articles in the linkage day. At the bottom that i give people Going leading your nation a taste of what's going on around the division. I did see one of my favorite writers. Tom rile i feel like is unabashedly. Bullish on the cowboys always and by the way it is bush. I heard you say this recently in a different podcasts. Exc about this bush means you like something. I'm very confident this. I'm high on this thing. I am bullish. Bearish means like don't feel good about it shouldn't once we did one time. I was very unsure at the time but very confident now. Bush means like on something. And i remember you bringing this up. A bullish investor also known as believes that the price of one or more securities will rise. I i always thought. And i guess i fell back into this even after. You corrected me. The bullish like hesitant. Or you're scared. That are apprehensive towards. But that's okay so we do know. I'm looking at the line from this article here going into the offseason fixing the defense was stated as a top priority based on what we have seen so far. Those are not empty words. I love i love it. I love a week of training. Camp practice already. Seen the defense look good all right. It's going to be fine. Maybe maybe he's gonna be elite but it's going to be fine. It's gonna be good. It'll be better It's that time of year though. Is i laugh about it. I i kind of tease about it. But seriously i mean obviously That's going on eagles. Were up to where everyone i feel like has convinced themselves has everyone. Eagles world has come up with the take generally that like. Oh the better than you think this year. And i feel like everyone is saying that and it's not actually like better than you think everyone is saying that. Now you know what. I mean valley. Oh unpopular opinion. These are gonna be good. No like it's come to the point where now everyone saying that and like no one sleeping on them. Well that's a good transition to To the eagles. I do think they'll be. Let me be clear about this. I think they will be better than you specifically things that they are going to be because you have been not like hater low on them but you have been a wisely low astutely low of them and i just i i think the division sucks and like some of that is i don't i. I think that they split the series with washington. They probably sweep the giants like so right there. We're talking about three wins. And so i think this team's get into like between six and eight wins. If you told me the over under was six and a half i take the over you tell me with seven and a half. I'd stress a little bit about it. But i mean i think they're right there like i think i think they're higher kick correctly. Miami's pick in two thousand and twenty two correct the miami's first round pick for sure have pick nba elevated. So i'll go on. The record is take right now. I think their highest first round pick in two thousand and twenty one.

"How things change from from one season to the next just based on the experience of the previous year it networks. Greg williams was saying into jamal. Adams you were talking about earlier when he went over to seattle was just like well. Good luck to you. Made your not not going to get to do anything anymore. Skies anything and Sometimes safety is good enough to flourish in any system and believe jamal adams is certainly that type of player. Ed i wanna hear more about your thoughts. So you know the time you spent around. Dan quinn a little more but a point. You made earlier. That i wanted to delve into a little more. You know this will come down to. You can say great. Hire great hire all. Dick went great higher. But you know. A guy is only as accessible as players. The sark steve artesian looks like a genius last night and he did seem like a good play caller and they're excited about birthday of texas well. He's got brilliant. He's got devante. Smith he's throwing out to. He's got nausea harris. Then they got robertson. I mean it helps to have these elite players in ed i would say demarcus lawrence. Maybe gregory donovan wilson emerged. It'll some points in the season and digs seems to have some ability in this area. But this this defense that dan quinn is taking over is not dislike. Loaded with play baker's. The the legion of defense was loaded with playmakers. And so how much success. Dan quinn has i mean. We'll say we'll see he did have some success in atlanta. You know doing it with players that were like your front line. I mean ed. Wasn't he already there. When that fateful day with the poor cowboys offensive lineman gave up five or six sacks. Would ty tyron. Smith was out of the lineup. Adrian clayborn yes. I think it was a overall right. Yeah adrian clayborn did not do much there but getting another contract almost based on that one day that he had it gives the dallas cowboys and that came with dan. Quinn as the head coach. So he didn't have. He had great offensive players. I don't think he had a lot of great defensive play makers and that's quite honestly what he'll inherit here is not a tremendous amount of playmakers on defense. Yeah i mean you you mentioned it. Seattle's personnel during the twenty thirteen twenty fourteen seasons when they led the league in total defense and scoring defense in back to back years..

"Thirteen and fourteen. And what have you been able to Learn as one of those sportscenter host would ask you yeah. I've had the good fortune as as luck would have it with dan. Quinn becoming the defensive coordinator of the cowboys. I covered those seattle teams for espn really throughout their entire playoff runs. Not just at the super bowl. And then i also was responsible and assigned coverage of dan quinn. When they were the super bowl against tom brady so he has been the defensive coordinator head coach in three super bowls either as a head coach defensive coordinator and they were against peyton. Manning wants and tom brady twice so he he seemed the best. There is in the biggest of all games. And you're right. I think of more value than any observations that i can make about an quin based on that. And i'm gonna. I'm gonna share some also have some insights from thomas. Demetrios falcons general manager. Dan quinn was the was the head coach shop until very recently of the falcons and i did also reach out to gus bradley. But i started with richard sherman and richard sherman as we know is a fantastic all-pro potential hall of fame quarterback with the legion of boom defense. And he told me that. You know along with gus bradley. There's these guys are some of the best. He's ever known in terms of relating to their players in meeting them where they are said connecting with them individually and as a group he said he will build schemes from the front to the back. So the defensive line will be the focal point. He said he's a great motivator. Players will play for him. He said he will find players that fit that skied and the players. Who stood out to me in. That regard is trayvon. Digs there the rookie. Who started almost the entire season a quarterback second round pick from alabama. Had as good a year. I think is as anybody on the defensive side of the ball did and he saw him as a prototype. Seattle corner with you. Know lancs capable of playing a physical style of football. He said he'll get more out of digs than they have been getting. They've been putting him in no win situations. He's a q. Dan quinn. We'll play to his strengths. Like alabama did and then. I think another interesting referenced. Richard sherman made was to a former teammate and current friend of his house. Obviously the cowboys have always been linked to and fascinated by earl. Thomas and gus. Gus bradley and dan quinn. Have a history and gus bradley. Just got the job today. With the raiders..

"It is the doomsday podcast. In emergency session we just met. We just said goodbye to the season so recently as we tend to do regular seasons for the cowboys and But we're backed because the cowboys have already made a higher defensive coordinator dan. Quinn has been hired to replace. Mike nolan who was fired after predicted long ago on the doomsday. Podcast it's matt. Bosley with ed worder alongside. Frito day should productions chris gross Producing an ad. I gotta say you know my first thoughts on some of those interviews that were happening via zoom or kind of like a kind of a man. These are kind of mccarthy is it had some to him in green bay not really doing much for me and then the hamma hamma goes down and dan quinn former falcons head coach and former seattle defensive coordinator the The the choices made and Ed we'll talk a lot about it. You have some things. You've already talked to richard sherman about this. Who played for him and that legion of boom. We'll talk all about that but add. What was your always kind of your first reaction. Was it alaska. Nice higher aura. What was what was the word or reaction there at There were manner. Well first of all i would reiterate my position on the final doomsday podcast. Which was that in. Many ways blaming mike nolan solely for what happened in the failure of the defense at a historic level was unfair to him. And i stand by that we can. We can explain that further later. But as the dan quinn. I think it's totally sensible is not fantastic higher. Although it does mean that they're moving back in the direction they only just departed from because they decided it wasn't working to their satisfaction. But the fact that chris rashard another disciple of peak airline. The seahawks defensive philosophy was effectively. The cowboys defensive coordinator before mike nolan should make for a relatively simple transition for cowboys. Players both in terms of the terminology and scheme familiarity. And i think that's important not knowing the limitations of pandemic might create this offseason something. The cowboys underestimated going into the twenty twenty season. Jerry jones cited that and took some responsibility for that. Although obviously the general manager didn't get fired over that decision it was left four. Mike nolan to pack up his office and head elsewhere into the nfl. But i think that it's a it's a understandable higher. I think it's a return to the system that they were playing a two years ago..

"Validate that the way you play. So i think that richard sherman. I think he's i think he's still not a bad player. The national football league. i think he's got obviously. He's a veteran. he's probably in the latter part of his career. But i do like the fact that he is very The cal ability thing. I think you need that. But i think more importantly need guys are play and to me. You know we can mention those names. You know demarcus. He's he's still i. I think he's got a couple good years trayvon he's going to be a i think he's going to be a tremendous player. I think he's gonna. He's probably going to be a guy that really be a pro player when these days laid vander esch. I mean. i don't know you're going to be on. He's going to be on the injured list all time. And that's the longevity down to wilson's a good safety. I mean i. I i mean he's really catapulted his play randy gregory. I think he's got a lot upside. Tell me he. He is a guy that when he's playing hard given a chance and staying on the field and hopefully although things they all build behind he's a he's a dominant force. So you still have to have you can have the scheme and everything but you still have to have been gradients ingredients being the players and yet to me. That still needs to be that still remains to be seen is I mean again. I think this is as exciting of a move is the cowboys could have made at this particular position. However i think that they felt so that nobody wants to give them any benefit of the doubt in the excitement department. You know what i mean. People are like fine higher. Dan quinn whatever. I'll believe it when i see it. And that's it mean that really is fair. Given the way they play. I'm not to get all excited about a higher either rj. I named to me. Doesn't doesn't do the job. I think that we'll yeah. That's great i. I think the players will have respect for him because he is was a head coach. And i think you'll have the respect factor in indefinitely. This vote more. Votes than probably mike nolan ryan might gully may have been living in the past just a little bit and didn't understand you know that It's a little different now. And i'm not saying that an eb. That's that's the rare. I think they all now you got you got the players the respect of the coach and if you play in that type of realm thank you you're able to to have different things That add up and the ultimate goal is results. So my final thing here tony. Maybe it's just been enough time since the last cowboys game to allow for optimism to be reborn in me. Maybe golf was back. We saw the century. Last i've been going good mood. You know what i mean. I whatever the case may be. I think that monday monday. Revitalized my spirit's for the cowboys in a new way. In a way that they hadn't at least been in a way that wind hadn't put sales in in a while. And it was a combination of the dan quinn hacks do believe this was the best option on the table. It remains to be seen how successful it will be. I agree with you but in combination with the fact that in look. I'm not saying you know this. I would never celebrate somebody getting fired but the philadelphia goes being stupid enough to to fire. Doug peterson is a big deal. For the cowboys i he's. He was by far the best coach and the division and they are clearly committed carson wentz and again not to you know. Continue to bag on the guy. But he's one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the nfl and the easiest path to the playoffs to win your division. And so i mean. I still i know washington won the division. I know new york could at the end. I still philly has always found a way under doug peterson and so the fact that they are willing to him. I think really really opens the door for the cowboys in the nfc degree. I don't know the whole read. The way that doug peterson handled that whole carson wentz and i last game of the season two so quirky. And you're talking about a guy falling from grace as far as a guy that ended up winning the super bowl and you know this year was just a debacle because of everything else asterik by season with the season because of the whole cova dill. I just think the way he handled that carson wentz and i think at the end of the day it's all about jeff laurie ownership. I mean i don't know if he was very happy with the way handled that. And but yeah. I think that. I think you be careful what you wish for right because whoever comes in and zanu coach at the eagles which i hear so many different stores hill urban meyer. Their targeting urban miami me. I don't know if urban meyer they jacksonville. That's a done deal. So i don't know what you boy lincoln riley has been connected to that so into me game ads and lincoln riley. I think just a different offense a different type of philosophy but to your point. I think i think the cowboys are they. You can't really look and read all into that because i think carson wentz who knows under different system the relationship. Whatever happened with doug. Peterson obviously wasn't very good. And it just didn't In think of this when you're investing that much money and one guy hundred dollars you're just not going to dislike. Okay give up on it a made. If you're paying a guy especially ownership you're thinking okay. We need to figure this out. We can't give up on a yet. And i think doug peterson pretty much. Just lucky raises hansen. I'm done with it. And i don't think that was interpreted. Well we'll see how that how that bodes bowls in the nfc. Hope is a lot better than it was this year. I mean i would. I would love for it to i. Obviously the cavs win the nfc east. But i don't want it to be this like they win it. You know in early december because they've already hit eight wins and everybody else super bad like i want there to be. I want the weeks that the cowboys play these teams for for for the ones that were stressing about. That's what's fun. You know what i mean. It is what washington they ended with with a with a quarterback's last name heineken. Yeah i mean it's just a crazy year r. j. my last question for you lincoln riley obviously could go to the eagles and obviously reunite with jalen hurts There's one oklahoma quarterback currently alive in the nfl playoffs baker. Mayfield's cleveland browns will visit. Patrick mahomes this. Kansas city chiefs. Everybody is going to be talking all week long about the crazy oklahoma texas tech game. That happened way back when real like a thousand points. Scorer kajillions opening lines. I'll be. I'll be frank right there but do you think they're baker stands a chance because i honestly think as an nfl society. We're not giving this dude enough credit. Because he did it like he did what nobody could do. When they drafted number one overall everybody had their comments and everybody you know celebrates the our commercials whatever he did it. He led them to the playoffs and he won a playoff game and i think he deserves a lot of credit for that..
Dallas Cowboys Hire Former Falcons Head Coach Dan Quinn To Try To Fix Defense
"The cowboys have hired former falcons head. Coach dan quinn as their new defensive coordinator replacing my nolan. "And i don't know i think that when you look at that game you look at how it happened. You know patriots and patriots do saying over the history of their of their winning. All the super bows it. I don't know if that's something you don't think about. I think you have to finish games. We saw atlanta game with the cowboys this year. Right we also hear the clinton know. The the down in was came back and won. The game is coach. You can't worry about that because you can't. There's always gonna be examples of that life. I mean we all have that. Coaching especially the problem is is that when you get there and you're able to you know i always thought that game is a game of them on tonight lose you know. And sometimes that's the worst enemy okay. And but i think there's a certain more there's more communist as a as a defensive coordinator because you're not the head coach and you know you don't have to deflect all the criticism that these guys have to when they are the head coach and you know muslim guys you know. They they thrive annetta violent. But i think. Dan quinn i think that is i think we all ask every player that this place more whether it was in seattle it was a guy. It's a coordinator. I think guys like him you know and they respect its philosophy and i don't think that you think about that i think you want to. I'm sure he wants to be a head coach again without a doubt sure he wanted to continue coaching in atlanta. I don't think you really thought about that. I mean that's part of the game but now it's kind of like well. What do i move on. What am i going to bring to dallas. You know as far as what i had to work. What tools that. I have on my toll box work with. That's right now. That's gotta be the thinking there. It s got to be this organization to move on and try to you know the it was disastrous last year. The season was a horrible because of what how bad their defense was. And that's like okay now. We got to build around demarcus lawrence. Trayvon digs leighton. Vander rest wilson randy gregory. Those are the guys i got to work with. And this is what. I gotta do to get this defense. Pick it up and get it to a more respectable level so something that mike mccarthy has said a lot over the last year now over year into the mike mccarthy era it feels it feels like yesterday and it feels like a decade at the same but so he has always said that he wants to listen to his players right like listen to them like when their bodies aren't aren't feeling great you know he wants to just you know he wants in that sense be a players coach and kind of adjust to what they need. I i would have to imagine that at some point whether it was since the season ended. Or maybe when the season was not going well. The conversation was okay guys. What do you view as the problem here on defense. What would make your jobs easier and the answers. Were probably something like yeah. It's too complicated. Whatever we gotta get back to what we know. And there's no question that the peak of the cowboys defense in recent memory. And i'm using the word peak just in a literal sense. I'm not saying it was great but it was. It was the best version of them was in two thousand eighteen leighton vander esch rookie season. Jalen smith was good at football. Not worried about a lot of other things There was there was a lot working right in two thousand eighteen. That was the height of the chris. Rashard era in dallas Obviously crystal shard comes from the same system that dan quinn does in seattle the legion of boom under kale. I want to read you something. Tony this was. Richard sherman on the podcast. He does with chris. collins worth Back in early october. They were talking about the cowboys because obviously they were terrible. And chris collins. Worth asked richard sherman if if he had ever heard of teams change in coordinators in the middle of a season in a guys first year because of mike and everything and so richard asked and had a long answer the part that i find really relevant now he said i don't know of changing the coordinators changes the way they run that playbook but if you change coordinators and they go back to foundational fundamentals of running a certain defense then i think they'll have better results but who am i So that that line right there foundational fundamentals of running a certain defense. This to me does feel like you know the again. The conversation was coach. We missed two thousand eighteen again. Just in a large sense. So mccarthy said okay. What'd you do in two thousand eighteen year round the foundational elements of the legion of boom. Defence chris rashard. That was terrible. Let's go we were dealing with the appetizer. Let's go get the main course dan quinn because he's available and we'll get back to that is do you see that or am i reading into it. I think complexity has a lot to do with it. I think that you know it's easy for for me or any of for us to criticize what they're done philosophy but i do know from my from the from the from the eye the eye tests and watching them play that you can be more complex. You can disguise blitzes but you know how fundamentally a second before you because you still have to play your dad. And i think that that's the thing about you know. Look if you once you become fundamentally sound and it is a matter if you're in high school college football especially nfl. Fundamentals is is the foundation for everything. And i just think that when you look it really sound defense guys understand the philosophy inner gap responsibility and i think once you're trying to kind of manipulate that in a way where you're trying to get to hued and you're trying to outsmart your opponent. I shake all sudden. You're you're losing your focus as a player and i think the go up. Field and run downhill. That's the best philosophy. I always loved type of defense. That's so easy. I mean it's easy but you still got to believe in and and you got to be repetitious with it. Because if you're running all over the place and is just out of the apps and are out of you know. They're not filling the responsibility this when he really really become vulnerable and i think that that's what they happen. I think it's a combination. I think in in a scheme that you want to try to do all these gimmicks and disguise everything you gotta have the personnel. Be also gonna have guys up front to believe in that. I mean i remember as a player. I trans transition from the three floor in atlanta to dallas. And i was. I was reborn as a player because all of a sudden i wasn't catching blockers. I was going up field using you know what i was able to do. And that's be disrupted. But phil i mean. That's the worst thing you want to do. As a defense and lime and that you you have to change your skillset from one one thing the other but more or less mine was more getting it filled. And i think this is the dan quinn defense some unlike myself or some unlike nabal gallimore that play. Oklahoma was filled disrupted. That's what they want to do. They want you to play downhill. Mcknight's it neces- fun as i mean. That's that's more fun than playing a type of defense catch and protect all the time and make sure the guys in his gap right now. I think that that's well said. And you mentioned neville gala more. Obviously the cowboys still have tristan hill. Who showed promise early on last season. We'll see what happens if joe mccoy returns. But i do think that that position in particular dan quinn really developed grady jarrett in atlanta. That would be awesome if if that could happen with the cowboys and i think that ultimately it kind of is where this This is going to work or not. Is you can have the finest defensive coordinator and all the land dan. Quinn might be one of the at this point top defensive coordinators in the game on paper however i mean part of the reason for the success in seattle was what winded shirley but obviously it was mostly having guys like richard sherman and came chancellor bobby wagner.
Dallas Cowboys Hire Former Falcons Head Coach Dan Quinn To Try To Fix Defense
"The cowboys. Consider dan quinn a favor to become their defensive coordinator moving on from mike nolan last week. Multiple interviews solidified. That standing the cowboys announced that quinn would be their new defensive coordinator yesterday a source also said that coin agreed. To a three year contract he arrived in frisco yesterday morning for an in person interview following a weekend discussion between the two sides. The former atlanta falcons coach inherits a defense that allowed the most points in the cowboys. Sixty year history coincidentally. This won't be the first time. Quinn takes a nolan lead.

"Is supposed to be safer for. Both the player who's tackling and being tackled and prevent injuries and things like that which is always good And he also has a really strong focus crate and takeaways and getting the offense back on the field. And i think that the cowboys do have some people who can make that happen. So i think that those put quinn in a good position right off the bat so you mentioned Lack of lack the difficulty in finding a pass rush and again. I think this is certainly on the gm shoulders as well but vic beasley and like the the fallout for him. I think you could put a lot of it on him to. Maybe that missed falls on on thomas amid but what was the story that like why. Why did that. What was his issue. I guess to make every cowboys fan. Sheila better like maybe it was vic beasley salt. I so i. I actually know very well to that. Can i do well. We used both volunteer with a An organization here in atlanta called rally foundation. They do work nationwide raising money for children's cancer research and experimental treatments and supporting families children. Who are going through cancer treatments wonderful organization and it was just always really interesting interesting to me to do rally events with beck and see how engaged and like excited. He was to be there. He was really passionate about that. I don't think that vegas passionate about football. And i think that that is the main issue you know we saw. He signed by tennessee. He went and he you know crashed and burned their Showed up late role explanation. And then he landed with the raiders. At you know he just don't that he i don't think he wants to play football When vick was coming out he was pretty much universally considered to be the best picked. The falcons could made that position in terms of need and insurance of talent at that draft pick He was one of the most highly touted draft prospects edge rusher that season or that year and so i really think that vic was moron vic i think that he has not passionate about football. I think that he didn't really know that until he got into it. He also had a very difficult rookie season. y- his father had he was in the hospital with psoriasis of the lever liver and ended up passing away toward the end of the season. And so i think that that also may have kind of shift in his perspective. A little bit That was a that made for a much more difficult transition to the nfl then he would have had otherwise. And so that definitely. I think impacted has experienced. But i think vic just doesn't care that much about playing football. I think he he. Is you know talented enough to get teams. That money has way and secure the bag. My guy like if somebody's going to give you millions of dollars to not get any sex. I wish somebody would do that for me. I also that's a great point. But i also like again. And maybe this is why the falcons are looking for new general manager tack. Mckinley was somebody who the cowboys were connected to a lot. In in two thousand seventeen they ended up taking taco charlton over tj. Why not miss it all But so that didn't work out and he was really pissed off this past year And so again. I mean i don't. I'm not you know every cowboys fans now looking for reasons to believe in dan quinn the the to quote unquote best edge rusher. He was ever given both had a lot of personal issues. It would seem yeah and you know with tax. I think it's mostly a maturity issue and this is something that we have seen you know since shortly after we drafted him you know. He was always starting shenanigans on on social media. At one point. He walked the entire alcoholic staff. Because one guy said he thought Tweet once and i was like. I think you should tweet as much as you want me. Block me male. you don't get it. Yeah with with tac. I think it's a maturity issue. I think that tack also expected you know he came and also very highly touted I was thrilled about the pack. I thought that he was gonna be great. He was held back by shoulder. Injury which is very difficult for an address to overcome and it was something that really lingered. And so i think that that slowdowns development he also because he came out of ucla he had to go back.

"Of the world problem I mean, I'm not can go maybe three or four years to get it deepens online together give the Gaza developing to we ask starting to see something my God like it's been is entire tenure here that they have not had a reliable passwords. On Hurt So. In the partying. was another move that needed to happen I didn't chairman he just needed to get. Yeah the timing. You know maybe a little bit surprising. But yeah, I mean we talked about it on I. Think last week's alcohol to which was the fact that the falcons were to be able to lure inequality coach candidate with Dimitrov. Lame duck potentially GM hanging over that God like. It just wouldn't. It wouldn't make any sense. I certainly wouldn't have wanted to come in knowing that the GM could be fired. Either mid season or the next year, and then I'll have to deal with another GM that may or may not want me around like it just. The mechanics of it from that angle didn't make sense and. I don't think. If you remember last year like the the rumors were actually the Dimitrov was closer to being fired the Dan Quinn and it was actually Dan Quinn that stepped in and kept blank from fire. Off because he wanted to continue working with them. So that was always interesting to me. But he didn't have the rope. That Dan Quinn did. The leeway because of his abrasive personality. So It's just interesting that I think the dichotomy of like Dan Quinn great person that people. Lake but. Pretty Mediocre to bad. Football. Coach. And you know the the owner wanted to keep him as long as possible whereas Dimitrov was like. Above average GM. What he's asked to do but personality wise very abrasive and people just dislike him. So he's and it's just funny how that difference has played in the. Average. No I'm not giving him credit. That's He's above. Average elites..

"Will be right back. All right, we are back. Hope you're doing well. Let's dive in in case you don't know the Atlanta Falcons have fire their head coach Dan Quinn. They also fired their general manager Thomas dimitroff, and that's all that after a oh and five start to their season. And unfortunately, they had to go especially Dan Quinn. The head coach defense is his specialty and you would literally never know that watching the Atlanta Falcons play football. I mean horrible coverage missed assignments bad tackling lack of attention to detail horrible horrible horrible defense has been played by the Atlanta Falcons recently and has been awful and then you consider the culture that's been festering in Atlanta, you know considering the fact that a really the reality is that Dan Quinn's tenure as a head coach in the NFL package was marked the minute. He lost in the Super Bowl to the New England Patriots after having a 28-3 lead in that game. Ever since then there's been not only a culture of blowing leads, but it's literally in their heads. It's also always brought up anytime you watch the Falcons play football. The broadcasters always every single time mentioned that lost the 28th to 3. It's literally like the go to thing at the beginning of any introductory by kind of interview or any money really a few here. If you ever watch the Falcons game. It's kind of crazy how often that game is mentioned. So it's not just in the broadcasters heads or in the players heads are in the coaches heads. It's in everybody's heads and it's the culture around the Atlanta Falcons at this point. And then you look at okay the last of the Cowboys this year after being up 29 to 10 or the Bears game where the Falcons were up 26 to 10:00 and half way through the fourth quarter. They had a sixteen point lead and lost the game. That's terrible. And I said it before it blowing and the lead is in their head where it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy in their heads. They're like, oh we can't blow them. We can't we can't we're ahead now in this game. We can't screw up. We can't screw it up..

"Almost to the point of parody saying we're GONNA roll with our guys. You know we have the guys here to get this job done and I think if you look at the team's depth. which you know over and over again I, think it's headed in the right direction and then when injuries strike, it certainly doesn't look like it. And then you look at the way that every coach except Kyle Shanahan and to a lesser extent mark on manual has. Had A flamed out in Atlanta for one reason or another. I think the conclusion you have to come to that you know. Dan Quinn was a great believer in the culture he had built in in his ability to put people in the right position to succeed. and. Overcome things and I just don't think there was enough. In the end flexibility or understanding of what this team's flaws were I think too. Often it was a cosmetic change here. It was papering over something here it was. We've got to trust in the sky do this here it just seemed to never work out over the last three or so years. but I, think it's it's hard to point to one thing. That doomed Dan. Quinn I think ultimately was the fact that the team that he Dimitrov Wasn't as good as it was supposed to be an, he was not the kind of coach that could lift them out of that. Right and it seems like there's almost a culture that had settled in with Quinn them sort of spiraling where the they couldn't find a way to stop the bleeding whether it was in the Super Bowl or some of the losing streaks they've had over the years and I think it's easy to gloss over. Those three game five game, seven game losing streaks, and it just seemed like his ability to stop the bleeding was incredibly minimal I think ultimately lead to his demise here At this point, we do know that remorse who is the defensive coordinator. This year will be taking over as the interim head coach. We did get confirmation of that from the Falcons this afternoon as a recording this. I WanNa ask you this. I've had a few people ask me whether you know there's a possibility that Morris could actually win the head coaching job But what's the bigger picture in your mind? Not just for He Morris but really this entire coaching staff because I think there are some concerns that you know yet. Gone but there are a Lotta guys here who contributed to the mess that are obviously probably gonNA finish out the season. Do you think that they're they're all basically just dead men walking at this point? I. Do I really do not see any chance that Arthur? Blank. To keep any holdovers I know that we're already dealing with a situation where he brought actor cutter in inexplicable move, you know none of us understands to this day. So I guess anything could happen button with as poorly as things have gone over the past two and half seasons. I, would just very, very hard time believing that there's a single person on staff right now who will survive this transition. Yeah and honestly I think the only way that happens is if you see a miraculous eleven game winning streak that takes the Falcons all the way to the Super Bowl and folks, I am not going to bet money on that. At this point, they would literally beat the first team started in five to ever even make the playoffs if they put something like that off so. If you're a big brother, maybe that's a a a bet. You'll put on Vegas five bucks turns into a million, but I wouldn't even be five bucks on this point. Dave in alcohol you day I with this one before we close out the talk Dan. Quinn. I think we all would agree with the worst thing is he did in Atlanta you both have already touched on it with the super bowl collapse but in your mind, Dave what was the best thing that he did his head coach in his time here? I think the thing that I'll always appreciate about Dan Quinn. Is You know? I think it was understood that Quinn was looking for a certain type of player. In Atlanta and I thank you know now where we are and and seeing you know unfortunately a lot of these players haven't panned out the way we would like. The Dan Quinn took. A roster, I can't really stress enough how down I was on this roster after twenty fourteen, you know had the great players on offense Hansel of. But especially, you know on defense there was nobody to write home about besides maybe Desmond, true on. you know with Dan Quinn was able to do in taking a critical look at Ricardo Al and saying you know this guy could be a good safety and we're GONNA get in players like. You know I know it's not necessarily specifically picking them, but he's looking for guys like ray jared like dion. Like You Know Louis Kahn and and guys who will be hopefully a part of the next Great Falcons team. that. was what I appreciate about. Dan Quayle is I felt that you know under Mike Smith. This roster stagnated partially because. The team just didn't value. You know young players enough. It wasn't GonNa give these guys shot. It wasn't going to try to take an athlete and tournament to something else and. For All the MRS.

"We'll have no direction and you're a really given no indication that this is something that the current coaching staff and specifically Dan, Clinton could elevate the mouth. Oh It sounds like you both agree and I would add onto this that we all think this was the right move especially with what you just know. The fact that it really did seem like the team wasn't getting better they were they were going the wrong direction the past several games they have looked as bad as we've ever seen them look arguably in the Matt Ryan era the back going all the way back to two thousand and eight and that to me includes the the horrible two thousand, thirteen season. Where the Falcons only won four games, which it that's saying a lot when you can rival that bad of a season. As a head coach. So Gene, let me ask you this. Obviously Quinn has been here for quite a few years. He did take this team to the playoffs. He took him to the Super Bowl had incredible playoff success. Honestly, I think people also forget know two, thousand, seventeen playoffs. They did beat the Rams on the road you know Dan Quinn Arguably has had the most playoff success of any falcons head coach in history. What will his legacy be with the Falcons I know it's hard to think of that from fired head coach but it feels like he did accomplish some things even if he didn't get the big job done. He did and I mean, I think that there will probably come a time when fans will think fondly upon the the success of the team had of getting team to super. Bowl, that was huge. Obviously You know actually having consistent playoff success in those early years when it was so evasive during the Mike Smith era. I think that those are things that fans will remember fondly I think that right now we're just too close to re really well to two seasons in. Five Games of the season that have been you know generally miserable and We're also still fielding twenty eight to three jokes everyday and so i. On is going to have a little bit of. A see because, yes, team to a superbowl and or out of fun season I, mean just thinking about the way that they ran through the seahawks and of the packers a postseason on the Super Bowl you know that final game in the in the Georgia Dome Against Green Bay was really I think sort of the pinnacle of what we had hoped for from Dan plan. But then when he followed up with, you know the the worst loss in super bowl history. Worse loan lead. In the history of that championship game. You know I think that his legacy is going to be a little bit complicated. Dave, what's your take on that? Similar you know I think, I said it last night too. You know I think people will look back on. and. I. Know. We're not talking about him quite yet, but people look back on Thomas to Mitch. Trough. Pretty fondly, I think overall for the the moves that he's made the the success that he said this franchise up for and they look they already do I think look back on Smith pretty fondly I think it will be harder. At least in the short term for anybody to look back on this era, Falcons football as fondly and I don't blame. Quinn one hundred percent for that. I think that's partly on you know the team brass for not making the move of the end of last year. When it really needed to be made because these last five games on top of everything else that happened really cemented I think the reputation for Quinn with the fan base of being a guy who couldn't be trusted with the lead and didn't have a plan like Y-. There's just no other way to look at that own five start aside from. Either this team is incredibly talented and we just haven't realized it or you know Quinn in coaching staff really just could not get. Anything out of them and it could not put them in a position to succeed. And so I think it'll be harder. You know given the super bowl loss given the way that. That twenty seventeen playoff loss went so unfortunate and then just given the way the last now to in nearly half season's gone. It's going to be harder for people to look back on the Dan Quinn year the next few years especially as we're going through some liked growing pains. Roster changes in new coaching staff. To think very fondly of the year. So I think that Dan Quinn. Obviously did some good things for this franchise site the Super Bowl you know it? Go back to it, but it did in John just a handful of small decisions in plays. He could be super bowl winning. You know coach Dan Quinn and we'd be a lot. Sadder to see him go I think today but that didn't happen in the team. Definitely I think spend too much time trying to chase what almost happened rather than. Look. Critically. At what was actually happening with. Quinn. So I think they kind of did him a disservice with that and I think it will hurt his legacy. which fans for the short term? Dave what. In your opinion, what was his fatal flaw as a head coach? Gregg question. And you know. I think one of the hardest parts about this has been figuring out. What exactly kept happening with this but I think. Ultimately, I think maybe Quinn's greatest failing was. that he trusted himself, he trusted you know certain handpicked players and the coaches that he hand selected as well. to be the guys who were going to be able to take care of things the.

"This season you've scored over thirty once in that was against the cowboys. Now we're seeing them play their their defense is trash and we were able to score thirty, nine the in some otherwise you score twenty five. Twenty six, sixteen in sixteen with this talent. And Certainly Matt Ryan deserves criticism for the the decisions he's made some of these games. But across the board I think this is a much bigger problem with the entire offensive scheme that they're running. I were an article about this earlier this week. The fact that Falcons run so much on second long. And it's not like it's legitimately true. It's not just something vans are saying it's not backed up by the stats. The Falcons were one of the worst teams in the League in running on second along their one of the worst teams in the League of taking advantage of Pre snap motion something that. They did under Call Shanahan that just made the game made the defense show their hand to Matt. Ryan. A quarterback who feasts on knowing what the defense is doing. Am Yet we're here with Kirk cutter in his not doing any of the things. That it takes to be successful with this offense. In fact, he is what we saw. Even this game is Todd Gurley was having tremendous success running and run after run he was picking up five ten twelve yards and then he yanks him. I mean. I, Why why? Why would you and this is where I think the Falcons do have to make a coaching change and I think Dan Quinn absolutely needs to be replaced bar none. But at this point, I actually think dirk cutter is the man that needs to go immediately because of what he has done. To the offense and I want to say this because it is just coming as we are recording this but Jeff Scholz of the Atlantic formula formerly of the AJC, he is saying that the firing of Dan Quinn has been all but finalized and announcement could come Monday or Tuesday per his sources. So it sounds like Quinn will be the one out the door per Jeff Schultz in in was just put this out there Schultz knows his stuff the guy is connected. So it sounds like Evan This conversation May in the being moved by the time. This land tomorrow we just talked about. But it does sound like the Falcons we'll be firing Dan Quinn even before the bye week. So some breaking news there we'll see if that plays out but if Schultz is reporting it, there's a very good chance that happens. So last thoughts on the game on this new news that Dan Quinn is a looks like probably going to be fired and what's what's happening with his team? Yeah. kind of over the game at this point. But the Dan Quinn thought you know basically being fired. You know I don't WanNa see anybody ever lose her job I take no pleasure specially Dan Quinn, he's a super nice dude. He cares about his players in his players literally love him So I will be interested to see how that kind of changes in the locker room because the players have been very vocal about. Wanting to keep Dan Quinn, but they don't WanNa win on the field for Dan, Quinn to something's missing like if that was the way you keep him is by winning games and they just weren't They did enough last year to keep him around. But this year you know starting five, that's a tough pill to swallow for anybody in. You know it's it's interesting that it comes at a time where we still have a couple of weeks before a bye week I think are by week week ten we're traveling to Minnesota. To face the Vikings who you know that's a tough opponent And then the question of who ends up taking over I think it's GonNa be old brick Think it's going to be dirk cutter but yeah, it's You know it's Kinda Sad. But the Dame Quinn air coming to an end Owen five during the twenty twenty season You know wish him the best, but it had to it had to happen. It's unfortunate the took. Disastrous Start Oh and five against the first time since nineteen, ninety seven, I mean guys that's. Twenty three years since the franchise experienced this sort of a disastrous loss. and honestly at this point. If, you feel confident about them winning anymore games I I just don't like I I can legitimately. see this team starting in sixteen in finishing or I'm sorry finishing over sixteen. As you mentioned, they do have the vikings coming up next in the after that, I, mean listen to the schedule guys and you make the decision based on what you've seen on Sundays. After the Vikings, they faced lions, the panthers again. Then the Broncos, maybe the broncos could be a win. then they face the saints, the raiders, The saints, chargers, the Bucks, the chiefs in the. Bucks. I feel like one the two wins in that stretch is maybe optimistic. So and that's That is yeah. You know in thinking about this if you if you look at that in, you think to yourself. Everyone needs to go. and. Meeting from Thomas to metropolis all the way down in, you start looking at the future of this franchise. I think he met Ryan's thirty five. It may be time to draft a quarterback. I'M NOT GONNA. Argue with you because a season like this really does sort of open up questions across the entire the entire franchise. And It's unfortunate this come to this but in in some ways. Like you said many of us were clamoring for Quinn to be gone last year. This almost feels like the the actual logical conclusion of not making that decision in two thousand eighteen. So. Any final thoughts as we wrap this up and get done with this podcast. I. Just wish we had a time machine psychic could skip ahead to the off season just. Draft Talk. I'm ready for some some sort of hope you now during the season firing, Dan Quinn doesn't give me hope it's just like it needed to happen. It should have its admitting they should have done it last year it's another wasted season for Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. It's unfortunate. You know it's it's not good news for now when it's just been finally admitting they made a mistake and. We'll see what happens next year but you know me and you're going to be back every week to cover the Games next week we got the Vikings should be interesting. We'll see who that head coaches for the time being..

"Much twitter lit up. After. That play in in the aftermath of that play and I think people were reading me wrong maybe. Let me say this, I don't think Matt. Ryan had a good game at the GABBA pretty poor game that said I think the entire team collectively had a poor game. There were some drops. By several receivers. including. Cowboy. In, another one from Todd Gurley that contributed to this certainly there were some missed blocks including. You know that that near fumble from Ryan. That was it was a fumble but val recovered it where the past came in completely unblocked. In. I feel like you know these interceptions by Ryan they take the emphasis because they are that one was just glaringly bad. That was terrible. Throw the the. No excuse for it. But it takes away from what is ultimately just a terrible game collectively by the entire team and that's what I want to avoid because when Matt Ryan becomes the scapegoat. You forget to look at the rest of the team and ask questions about what the rest of the team is doing, and then even worse if you begin to make excuses for guys like dirt cutter, Dan Quinn and the game planning that's going into this into Sunday's. That is criminal I don't think you can separate a quarterback in the remaining players on the offense from defensive coordinator he comes in and if you don't have confidence as a player whether it's Matt Ryan or Kevin Ridley or tug early if you don't have confidence in what you're doing offensively. Going to impact the way that you play, you're going to question your throws you're going to not pull the trigger is confidently it's GonNa. Make you look worse than your physical skills may actually be and I think we're seeing some of that now. That said I wanted to be very clear. I'm extremely concerned that this offense that the falcons currently running is causing a regression Matt Ryan. That could continue for this entire season. And could end up being something that ultimately kills his career. Like, that's that's how concerned I am with what is going on with this team right now. That we literally have an offensive coordinator that is. Calling the games in such a way the quarterback is losing confidence with every single game he looks worse and worse and this could be doing. Damage to the last several years of Ryan's career. In let me finally say this for those who are coming after me to use that interception as proof that Matt Ryan has never been a good quarterback. You go straight to hell I'm not going to entertain that as garbage if I see, you tweet that kind of nonsense to me on social media I'm just I'm not going to respond anymore. I'll be on this on asleep you guys come after me personally like some of you did I'm going to block you just straight out I. Don't have time for that kind of nonsense in my life. This is football I don't I, don't need you attacking me personally because I don't think Matt Ryan is the worst quarterback in NFL history like who needs that stupidity in their life I certainly don't not in the season but not in the year twenty twenty, we have enough crap to deal with on top of an five Falcons team for me to put up with the all's bullshit about Matt Ryan being the worst quarterback in league. So. Please missed me with those hot takes a mocking to hear him I. Don't care. I disagree vehemently end you're just not going to get my attention and you're gonNA get blocked so. Good luck to you but take that take that nonsense elsewhere. As for the Panthers Defense. You know what the thing is like. The best defense team is often their offense and I think the panthers just absolutely dominated time of possession in this game so that certainly helped their defense but. Just embarrassed got the single interception the game they had a sack from Brian Burns, an Markey's hanes. But it wasn't like a dominant defensive performance. This felt more like an indictment of what the falcons were doing. Do you have any flu-like? The, the panthers weren't necessarily a great team. It was just it felt like the Falcons just not good. Yeah. I mean even towards the end there you know that's a touchdown game the falcons out of is just they couldn't make any stops. Mike Davis continuously ran all over him on both offense is actually had exactly sixty four plays each you look at the team stats overall in its very similar First Downs Panthers had twenty four. The Falcons had twenty one third downs the. Panthers went six for twelve in the Falcons went six thirteen. Yeah I mean in time as you mentioned time of possession, the panthers had thirty three. Minutes six seconds and the Falcons had twenty, six, fifty four. So not like a whole lot of different sayers just you know the Falcons had one turnover the Thurston have any But Yeah, looking at the Panthers Offense Mike Davis led the way on the ground with sixteen carries for eighty nine yards no touchdowns but he was useful during the in the passing game. Because he had nine receptions for sixty yards in a touchdown So pretty good day for him Robbie. Anderson was their lead receiver with eight receptions. One hundred, twelve yards then Dj more who you know was before Robbie Anderson came joined the Carolina Panthers was their number one receiver. He had a good day for receptions ninety three yards and a touchdown And then Teddy Bridgewater I mean he if you follow fantasy football stuff he was one of those Darkhorse quarterbacks because of the matchup and he didn't let you down you..

In the first quarter, you're up twenty, two zero. You're feeling good. I'm sitting here wondering why did I start that Prescott at quarterback because why did I draft him? This was a mistake why do I have mark? Cooper this was a mistake I sold myself Greg's line is on my team I forgot he got he was on the Dallas cowboys honestly and I hear the words airline just think Oh. Yeah. He's on the rams he's not on the rams he's on the cowboys why did I draft him? It was mistake and then Sorely but Shirley Lake in pure Atlanta Falcons, fashion. They allow the cowboys to somehow get back in that game granted. It was necessary for me. I needed it for fantasy by still didn't expect the Falcons to lose. Floor is yours because I just don't really know what to say. Because at this point. It's like it's on purpose. Honestly I. Don't know who who's to blame here because let me let me just get this one and then I'll let you go. For. People asking for the special teams guy to be fired. Let's reconsider this. Multiple Times in that game Dow's went on fourth down they had a fake punt attempt that was snuffed out. actually perfectly snuffed out, actually snuffed out to me they snuffed out two of them. I don't think the Special Teams Coach's coaching people to act like onsite cake is like opponent. He's the one that needs to go with something has to happen. Go ahead Bryce the floor is yours. Now that's all I needed to say. Yes. I'm very disappointing day Falcons Football I I think everybody lane calling for for Dan Quinn. I think we we are ready to storm Falcon headquarters and protests. Dan Quinn Firing I think as Atlanta fans we are. We are sick and tired of dealing with this. Arabize saying I feel bad for Matt Ryan I feel bad for Julio I feel bad for grady. I feel bad for Jones all of our star players you have to put up with this lack of of incompetence in the coaching ranks and costing us in costing them years of their career. Matt Ryan is playing at a high level right now he was four no in touchdown receptions yesterday and we lost. You know honestly people like talk about the defense okay yes. Defense is needs some work, but it's not played better than you play against Seattle. But. I think. There's I. I told us to you when you call me today I said with Mike Smith the issue was was mainly playoffs we get beat. You know obviously a twenty thirteen playoffs I see blew out by the packers. We we just. Play as good as we should've. With Dan Quinn. We play. Good. We, choke. And I feel like that's an indictment on the coach because there ain't no reason why we should've lost that game yesterday everybody knows that we even got. Shannon sharp saying this is unexcusable unacceptable. He needs to be fired icy Falcon coverage patients saying I can't do this anymore of Dan Quinn is still in that sideline next week I can't watch because they were like I don't want to see the team lose but I I can't support this anymore because this helps hire people are of gain queen and and this this farce he puts up every week talking about some Oh, we're pissed off all yeah we are off the fans are pissed off you sir, we want you out of there out of Atlanta we want you done now. Because, we're always the season's not over. But. We are we just don't want Dan Quayle we don't want to give any excuses for to potentially be able to keep his job. Yes and and I think that's just something that we feel as a community because it's just retired Justin Hardy made a tweet obviously just harvey a wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons the free agent right now he even made a tweet saying is not the talent they got plenty of that. So he saying that whilst. He is saying that you. Know, he knows. Man is not always the best like obviously the GonNa come out and support Dan Queen because I'm sure they like him as a person is they're not going to sit here and slander he's name but I'm sure some of the players is like, yeah. This isn't this isn't. Working and I think that's why or by putting pressure after blinked to make this call because they're just like how much more do you have to see how much how much more suffering do you want us to go through before we can get Out of Atlanta because we don't want him here anymore and. You know I just feel like you think about the team we have one of the best offenses in all of the. NFL. Literally. We have three wide receivers who number one why receivers we have a up and coming good titan of line is improved because Dallas really couldn't get pressure on us, until late in the game, and then you know in typical Atlanta faction, they onside kick it especially with the onsite kick literally being impossible to recover nowadays. And then literally we're awaiting slip meeting and we're just sitting around the ball like. We can't go get it. That's why we lost the game and that's why it was sickening to see. Honestly, you know it's just one of those things that I think is just it's just completely unacceptable and I need to see some heads on platters you know and I I think that is just something that changes need to be made and. Listen. We look really cool in our uniforms. Well, I don't want to lose another uniforms and we're losing right now. I don't WANNA lose. Jobs. So I. Think. I'm sure you're going to say the same thing Ho you know this appointing. Upset and we're going back and just like, yeah share. So I think it's just. One of those things man. He he just hope something shames may because this isn't. I mean literally, I've never seen. So, many people in just the people covering the team to saying. Yeah. Quinn need to go. I didn't tune into nine nine, a game today I should have Oh, i. felt like it would have been just I just want to know what they had to say they probably were like, yeah, this isn't working on more this. They have to talk to coach I think today. They usually talk to the head coach. At some point in the week to cover about how the game went and then I guess what the plan is for next week how do you show up like? This has got to be the worst situation. Dan Quinn has been post Super Bowl I. mean it is by far but even last year it was looking bleak. There are some games where you just you scratch your head and said our lives happening. And they went on this run and the win streak, and then we talked about this all off season about how Dan Quinn can just because he's brought back this year, there's just no way if he does not produce wins immediately. The the conversation of letting them find out the season is done. There should be no reason to do this. Now granted Arthur blank has a history of letting guys finish out before.
Two Seattle Seahawks earn Player of the Week honors after dominant Week 1 win
"Maybe, the most impressive team of the day was Seattle. Russell Wilson was thirty one of thirty, five, Oh my God for three, hundred, twenty, two, yards, four touchdowns no picks. That's ridiculous. Thirty one of thirty five metcalf picked up where he left off big day and they destroyed Atlanta and and I think that NFC west is just going to be fascinating all year long Seattle's not going to have a home field advantage. You're not GonNa have that twelfth man thing they got going out there but man, they're they're good and they're a veteran team I I think Seattle. Really is going to be a very difficult to deal with this year that quarterback may be in the prime of his career right now what year nine for him it is e was so special in that game. He was so good. It's just he's. Become. So, much fun to watch play fast the operates and how he's really gotten such a feel for the game. Become what Sean mcvay would call an extension of the offensive coordinator He's in control. It was also game that Matt Ryan threw for four, hundred, fifty they were down I mean, Julio Jones, at Fifty Ridley at one, hundred, thirty gauge to gauge at and fourteen. They, Have Hayden hearst they IRV Smith I think Atlantic could be good. Defense has been a problem for a while which is weird because it's Dan Quinn to think about that. which was Laying the first coordinator when the seahawks became. Great. Exactly.

"At least it feels like that firing thing doesn't happen. Khazar not quite out of playoff contention but if we're looking at the two in sixteen or God forbid one and seventeen at the mid point it it feels like that firing is going to be far more realistic day. I'll throw the question to you. Do you think mid season termination of Dan Quayle and his in cards if if this continues I think it's possible WANNA think most any year I would say that a character for Arthur Blank certainly we still would be out of character for Arthur blank do that but you also have to consider the context ear which is that you you know I I? I know not everyone agrees but I see Arthur blank's fingerprints all over some of the moves in bringing back Matt Ryan after they for whatever reason von in the first place so I I don't think he is as Venus that earlier in a patient. I don't think he wants to wait around and watch ads idiom. S- empty and visit has been. I don't think he you want that around and watch the fans and the media every week so it's really bad. I do think then I think this team probably will go ahead and admit it's a lost season and make that firing symbolic reasons outer some run as the head go no no one's all that thrilled about but would at least be a change because again at the at the end of the day Arthur blank. Thank is trying to see a winning franchise and he's trying to make an APP. I think that is you know for good or ill behind a lot of the moves of the vowed this opposite really hitting the off line. Bryant and I think that if it really gets bad when is the logical logical place to go this year. At least there's a real possibility that he's GonNa buy me if they can't start stringing yeah and stirring those games again. There's going to be against relatively tough schedule in the middle of the season so I think it definitely definitely bears watching but dave will go the this one because I I know today on twitter. This is Monday that we've seen quite a few fans interact with yourself myself on a few occasions asking this simple question. I think it's a fair one is is this actually a talented team because we've seen a lot of people say this team is too talented to lose. He's like this. This team is too talented to be one of three. This team is too talented to lose to the titans. I think when you're one of the three it is a fair question to ask is. Is this team that talented or do you think there are some legitimate issues with the talent on this fifty three man roster. I think that we may you know have overrated the talent the little bit. I'll certainly say that you know when you're this bad add you have to say maybe you guys aren't as good as we thought they were but I think you also have to kind of heart and back to where they were employed. Six were they did make it to the Super Bowl and you know way too close to winning that with holes on the roster that they've since improve I think almost route you know that guys like act who hasn't got exacts but has been a real ole rushing force this year They've got young talent cornerback. They've upgraded their offensive line injuries. You know side there and they've added Elvin Ridley that receiving core that this is a team that I think objectively other team Allen evaluators would. LSU Is a talent. I think it's a better team on paper than it wasn't plenty sixteen so. I don't think the issue here at the end of the day is purely or even primarily on talent. I think this is just a team. I don't know how well coached. They are at at this point. I think that's a fair criticism. I think that they are our guys like hopefully not oliver but he's looking like so far that we we may have overrated but overall. I think this is a talented team just screwing up as I've said multiple times tonight in a lot of ways that are that are either sadly characteristic for for a little bit uncharacteristic they they are still a good theme. I think we've seen this team play well so talent wise anyways they. There's just no excuse for them to be bad and I do think you know I've I've. I've heard some people say and and seen some people say on twitter in particular you know. Why would you fired Dan Quinn. This is a three year rebuilding job. If there wasn't a three year rebuild after two thousand seven when bobby left the covered bear if it wasn't a a free year rebuild after Mike Smith left with you know pap issues and the cupboard pretty bare. It's not gonNA be a free year rebuild after this. The talent is is is there for them to make a relatively quick turnaround which also probably will play into whether Dan Quinn gets fired a scene several experienced. NFL writers say that you know of the positions you need the NFL to succeed seed in building roster unique quarterback. You need a game changer on offense. Whether that's receiver or running back you need need a stout left tackle. You need a equality corner and you need to pass rusher. I think the Falcons arguably ably have the quarterback left tackle. Julio Jones clearly a game changer offense. I think true font is you know. The fans beat down on him a a good bit but I think he's actually a very good corner who had one bad game this this past weekend and I think the pass rusher maybe as the piece that's missing being here. Although I still feel like tack is his shown us a lot more this season with Dave. The numbers may not be there from the total by like he's. He's been far more productive so at minimum. The Falcons have all the core pieces on from a talent standpoint so I'm I've had a few people ask me is. This is really a talented team and I'm. I'm going to say yes because when I look across the NFL. I think that's your thing fans. Get myopically focus on just what the Falcons have I think when you compare hair them across the NFL they they have enough quality players to be better than what we've seen so far in two thousand nineteen and and that's where I'm GonNa take a little bit of umbrage with fans who say a wish just blow up this roster. That's I think that's foolish. there's there's a lot of good pieces on this roster. Matt Ryan could reasonably play for another five or six years at a high level. Julio Jones three or four years so there's no reason to believe that another coach couldn't come in and immediately how success with this roster so Gina. I'm GonNa go with you this next question and this is one that I've seen. I'm sure you dave of seeing this as well in. It's pretty simple question. If Quinn is fired of Quinn is gone after the season midseason. Do you think that Thomas Dmitrov the GM who's put this roster together is gone as well well yeah. He is and I would just like to remind you that since Quin dot here. Thomas has not been building this roster by himself if you look at a lot of the talent the falcons have added you know they have really improved in terms of drafting offensive linemen because I would say that the additions of Chris Lindstrom who's unfortunately Gary smart picks. Those are not guys that I'm sure Dmitrov picks. I mean he's more of a Sam Baker. Peter Cons Kinda Guy and you know if you're looking at the defense especially. I think that's where we really see. Dan Coons influence the guys that he picked you know tack said really good one even vic Beasley I mean I know that he has lived up to his draft. Status Naidoo understand fans angst with him and I feel that and my soul be quite honest but you know Vick at the time was pretty much universally regarded as a fantastic pick. I was thrilled about a time. You know you see it. In the cornerbacks. I mean Isaiah Azazel like you said he you know but he looked like he was getting better early on and it's still very early in his career but really if you look at John O'Neill if you look John Jones if you look at Grady Jarrett who was just you know an absolute seal Tak McKinley. I think was a very good pick so I think overall KS eat Camonte Casey. That is not a guy that I think's metro you know necessarily pulls that trigger on his own and so yeah. I think that Dan Quinn Avalon to do with the talent that they've added to this current team and it's just they there is a reason that when they extended both of these guys that they extended them in in such a way so the contracts were up at the same time and I couldn't put yeah. I think it was always going to be a package deal. I think that there's really no doubts that if Qantas Quintas fired now Dmitrov I think Quintas fired midseason. I think that's a metro hangs around until the end of the year. I don't think that they jettison him during the season because what's appoint you know you'll still be able to get somebody else in here to prepare for the draft in free agency so there's no reason to have that kind of upheaval but yeah. I do think thank that if Quinn goes whether that's in the middle of the season or at the end of it. I think that demetrios goes after the season also so along those lines. If assuming quotas gone demetrios gone you think they'll look to promote from within go external. Do you think rich. Mckay may step in to help fill the gap in the meantime since he someone that has some experience at GM. I've really thinks that because they would wait until black Monday to do it in my opinion that they would just hire a new. Gm I think that rich McKay is he has a lot on his plate as a president of the organization. He does a lot of the stuff with the stadium and like all of their external. Pr Kind of stuff so it's not something that I feel like blank would feel comfortable leading McKay represent. Hem in all of those business interests trysts and try to be a gym to and I mean I'm just going to be really honest with you. That's what they do with Lomas in New Orleans because he asked to be the GM of the Pelicans and the saints and that's probably part of the reason that has come up against the cap every year because it's a lot to man you know I mean I just really wanted the opportunity to make a cap joke but yeah I mean I. I do think that it's too much and so I think that blankets a very shrewd businessman. I don't think that he would risk his business interests by having caved his focus us that way so I think that they would wait. That's another reason that I think that they would not get rid of Metro till after the season completely agree on all those fronts Dave. I'M GONNA go with the next question. I think this is a this is one where fans are. GonNa Start speculating over the next few weeks especially if they lose the next couple of.

"I think they could good end up going five hundred or a little bit above I really do because the division again is edited and they certainly have the firepower but I am. I'm just not ready to live in a world where the buccaneers or a good football team. I don't think Gee your take on the bucks for move onto the Falcons coach. Yeah I mean I'm still flabbergasted. I guess you know we might have seen a different outcome. If Todd Gurley hadn't you know stolen stolen Sean mcvay parking spot or whatever he did to get knocked down to like five carries a game or whatever but yeah I think I think that part of this is that Sean mcvay refuses muses to play his best player a reasonable amount and then says no. We don't have him on the snap count lake. Were not dumb. You obviously do but I think that this was just one of those fluky games you know they they pop up. It really is any given Sunday. I really can't handle the idea that we've entered such bizarro bizarro timeline that the boxer all of sudden good end wall. Everything else in it are in our world is basically on fire yet. That's just something that I can't that I cannot accept. I'm not prepared to accept that so I am going to say. I think that that was an anomaly and I think that if Sean McVeigh were making some different decisions offensively offensively like running todd Gurley more. It probably wouldn't have happened so yeah. That's that's the only way that I can reconcile that game in my mind. It's a so absurd. On what planet should the buccaneers ever be scoring fifty five points on the road in the year two thousand nineteen that made the Super Bowl last year and is largely still-intact. I mean it doesn't make any sense. No and I think there is is one thing to be said about this and that is that the NFL in any given week can be completely sideways in the results you get in never ever plays out where all sixteen seventeen weeks go exactly as analysts think it will awesome in that game. I think is a perfect example of what happens in the NFL where you've got just a random outcome that may not say anything about the two teams teams involved but it for one week in this relatively short season you have the bucks scoring fifty on the road against the rams and sending them to three and one so no idea what to do with that but at this point all of of the three other teams. NFC South took home a win on the weekend win win. The Falcons lost to a team they should be falcons fall to the bottom of the division and they are looking up and wondering what to do and that's what we're going to talk about in the second second half of this podcast but before we jump into that we're gonNA take a quick break. We'll be right back. Check out the American Ninja Warrior podcast for a behind the scenes. We're back on the Falcon podcast. This is David Walker as always I'm joined by my co host Gina Thomas and our very very special guests alchoholic himself Dave choke in we're going to spend the second half of this podcast talking about what this first quarter of the season means for the Falcons for the coaches for the GM for the staff for the players because I think for many of you who were watching this team who were interacting with us on twitter who are reading the articles at the foul called Dot Com contributing articles commenting on those articles you're all asking some of the same questions and that is is. Dan Quinn now on the hot seat. Will he be fired and I think it's a fair question one in three second season row with a start like this. Dave Dave to start with the first one this one is Dan Quinn now firmly on the hot seat. I don't know maybe we should ask every barking in the background. Baxter is basically due into his little Martini L. Toy. What the Titans did that the Falcons yesterday so it's very well man i. I think you know you can't so the thing was all last year. You know not to not drag this wildly off topic but all last year you know when people were advocating for the Falcons to fire Dan Quinn you know I don't know we always defended him but we made it clear that they were not. GonNa Fire Him. We knew knew that you know it was going to be his first losing season since he took him to the Super Bowl he was gonna get another can't but I think implicit in that chance and and certainly in the moves. They made this offseason. the expectations. Arthur blank has for this team. It was clear that you know he could not survive another other bad year and we're here. We're here right now. We're watching the steam play or you know bad ugly football games there one three they have a tough stretch coming up including two road games games against the you know the NFC west in the NFC south in in the relatively near future. There's just not a lot of margin for error here and if they go into the bye week and they have a losing record you know I I don't know that he'll be fired right then but I do know that he will be fired at the end of the year at that and I think that it's probably safe with zoom. Even everything everything we've seen that that's going to happen. I think it's it's been in every column that everyone's written about this team. This week is that they don't seem to have a good answer the answer for why they can't stop playing or football and and when you don't have an answer as a head coach and you know the steps you're taking like bringing the AH the cruise in which I thought spar move aren't really panning out in your team keeps making these steaks and the injuries of stacking up a little bit you just probably are not going to survive that and I think that we just have to brace ourselves for a new Euro Falcons football because I I think this will be a big time house cleaning. Don't think it'll just be when now Gina. I think you've had some pretty very strong opinions about this. Even before the season started in our own riders chat about how things may play if the season didn't go well so I'll ask do you the same question is Dan Quinn now officially on the hot hot seat took. His seat has gotten progressively warmer but I'm going to say it was not cool coming into the season. I think Arthur blank got a taste of what it feels like to win a championship with Atlanta United and his tone about pretty much everything has changed you know now. It's a situation where blank in the past was pretty reserved about things. After this team got to the Super Bowl and blue at the way that they did I think his patience is wearing thin with not winning and so you know for him to say that he wants to win. Championships plural to the media. That's something that I would not expected to hear from him in the past and so I think that he just has developed a different mindset about this and he I think that has patience is wearing thin so oh. I think that Dan came into the season with a warm seat and I think it's probably uncomfortably toasty now. After that loss yesterday and again I mean it's something that we've we've all said in different ways small time but it's not just that they lost the titans. It's how they lost. It's the shooting themselves in the foot with the stupid mistakes at sloppy happy play looking disinterested and then it's being totally bewildered after the game like why don't know how that happened well. It happened because you played like ass like it's it's not that hard to figure out and so yeah. I think that Quincy is is. I think that I would definitely describe it as uncomfortably toasty right now yeah and I think that's I don't know that anyone can watch what happened this past Sunday and think that he's comfortably secure in his job and thinking back to the two thousand seventeen season when they were decimated by injuries. Even at that point the offense ends under Steve Sarkisian was still scoring. There were scoring thirty plus points per game in some of those losses even against the saints they it least lease looked competitive the thing that struck me from the game this weekend was it never like they were actually competitive. Against the freaking titans right that is just a devastating comment on the coaching staff players the entire kit and caboodle. I don't know that anyone is going to try to defend that and especially in the like we're starting to look back at St Sarkisian with the sense of longing you know something has gone horribly sought ways with this team. It's not good so Gina I'll go to with this this next question sort of follow up on the first one if the Falcons continue on this path where they don't look competitive to your point. They look sort of lost. They have no answers they go into the locker room in the media responses like we had a good practice. We don't know what happened. If the Falcons continue on this path do you think win could potentially fired at midseason keeping in mind. The Falcons have a bye week in week weeknights very middle of the season. Do you think that could be a jumping off point for Dan Quinn to be gone as the head coach of the Falcons. I do appreciate the my dog is going to punctuate punctuate my response with his squeaking because just seems to fit with the central urgency or yes. I do think that it's possible the Dan mm could be fired midseason. I do not think that it would happen before the via week because I do think that blank would want to give the team that time to adjust to somebody else. Could you please cool it. Mr Come come on. I'm sorry about that and so I do think if Dan Quinn were fired. I think that dirt Qatar would probably take over which by the way hey dirk called a real shitty game yesterday and so. I'm not terribly excited about that. Either I mean we dirk as a head coach in Tampa Bay for several seasons then granted the talent here is a very different level like Matt. Ryan is better than Jameis. Winston and Julio Jones's better than everybody and so. I think that it's a different situation but we know who dirk is. It's not like he's all of a sudden going to be some. You Know Maverick coach coming in here and turn things around immediately like I don't and expect anything to really change after takes over your other option is really Bob. Sutton are Mike Mularkey. I'm not thrilled with either of those options either. If you know on defense I would say the most likely person to take over as defensive coordinator is Jeff over the linebackers coach Jeff as a person. I like quite a bit. He's kind of stood stood in to the the defacto defensive coordinator Slot because they're supposed to let the media talk to the defensive coordinator once a week but since Dan quotas that Guy Hi Jeff is the one who typically does it and yeah so. I think that he's probably the one that they would tap for that role but yeah I'd I would it make a difference probably probably not I mean it. It would probably appease some fans in terms of the teams for four months. It's just going to be a law season. If they fire the coach Midway through yeah I it feels like if the Falcons get to the mid point four and four or they're three and five that to me..
Falcons Back Head Coach Dan Quinn Despite 4-7 Start
"Meanwhile, Arthur blank, the owner of the falcons, Dan Quinn is not at any trouble. No hot seat. He says our problem is not coaching but a very disappointing season for the Atlanta Falcons. The super bowl's in Atlanta, and they will not be playing
"dan quinn" Discussed on The Rich Eisen Show
"So great chat with Dan Quinn right there. And one thing that he, he said that I, I want to spend a little bit more time on here is that he does not believe that the helmet rule could be this year's catch rule. And by that, I mean that there's so many different interpretation, right? And that officials aren't on the same page about it and that it will cause problems when games are on the line and it'll drive fans nuts when they don't understand why flag was called on a play. And by the way, it's not just defensive players hitting people, it's offensive players. It's like, if let you say there's a pitch play k. and Alvin Kamara just as an example goes around the end and boom, fifty yard gain, huge your fantasy team. If your saints fan for your saints team flag on the play, what's a four? Well, it it's going to be something out of the violation of this use of the helmet rule. It's a fifteen yard penalty, loss of fifteen yards of the foul by the defense. It's also an automatic first down player could be jetted to, depending on certain standards. And if an offensive lineman goes ahead and lowers his head to a. Initiate and make contact with his helmet against an opponent, which is the language contact doesn't have to be doing opponents head or neck area, lowering the head in initiating contact to an opponent's torso hips were lower bodies also felt and want you to use your helmet is a weapon that's in. That makes total sense. Let's get the game. Safer. Lets us. Let's use the game for the. Let's use your body to make tackle your shoulder, not the crown. Your helmet. In violation of the rule according to the league will be easier to see an officiant when they occur in open space as opposed to close line play. But the rule applies anywhere on the field of the time. There could be a fifteen yard penalty for a guard, pulling down a field initiated contact down the field and a running play that you just saw gets wiped out. That's entirely possible this year. Okay. And you know, I, I don't know if QB sneaks are going to be in this as that. They're not looking for the quarterback to lowers helmet making contacting flagging on a on a fourth and inches play, but I'm assuming that that's possible. So I'm concerned when the eagles say, hey, the refs came in this week and said, this is a foul and another ref said that's not a foul, but they're not on the same page it..
