The Running Back's Struggle

The Running Back's Struggle

"Josh last time we had ESPN. It was to talk about fullbacks today. We're talking about running backs in our way through the backfield man just like Aaron Donald Josh firms. Meyer writes about football for five thirty eight Josh late last week. The Rams announced in a shocking move that they were releasing running back. Todd Gurley. This was a remarkable turn of events Given that girlie one offensive player of the year in twenty seven teen thoroughly. He was discussed by some people as an MVP candidate in two thousand eighteen on route to the Super Bowl led the league in rushing touchdowns that year. The ten the five untouched. To the end zone touchdown todd Gurley and on top of that. He's only twenty five years old. What happened my goodness twenty five year? Old running backs are already aging out. The first thing that happened to him was he has arthritic me. So at the end of the two thousand eighteen season he had to be replaced and spelled by Anderson Mentally played a little bit in the Super Bowl but he was just entirely ineffective. Fortunately that ineffectiveness carried over into the twenty nine thousand nine season and inbetween. He was given an extension that made him one of the highest. Pay running backs in the league. So this season couple that knee with his expense the caps situation in a loss Angeles and he just became a casualty and I think he is kind of an exemplar for everything. That's going on with running backs in the NFL. It's this idea of short and careers injury proneness and loss of effectiveness and therefore being cut or getting lower pay on the day that he was released. Espn stats and Info. Put out an number that I found fascinating in two thousand fifteen year. That Gurley was drafted. Twenty two backs were drafted. Not a single one of them. Josh is still on the team that selected them. What do you make of that goes to this idea of running backs? Having really short shelf life season for running back usually occur in one of their first two seasons at least in terms of productivity in terms of touches. You wear them down so quickly in this league. Though it's one of the toughest position on on the body and so I think the League as we've seen so far this year they still are kind of have a predilection overpay for the very good running backs are the ones that just had a good season but on by and large I think across the league. You're seeing people being really risk averse and moving on from running backs after a couple of seasons. When did you notice that that some teams not all and we'll get to some teams that have continued to pay running backs winded some teams for start to realize that they had been overvaluing the position and wanted to invest elsewhere. It's hard to trace it back specifically to a particular team but I know that People in twitter sphere and analytics the NFL analytics of talked about the replace ability of the running back position for quite a few years. The Philadelphia Eagles were one of the first on board to kind of spend money at the position but spread that money out over multiple players to kind of make the injury risks inherent in the position kind of spread across multiple sets of legs. The Baltimore Ravens are also one of the ones that the forefront of really just paying the absolute minimum that they have to at that position and actually getting pretty good production out of you mentioned that the analytics community was sort of early on this trend. What did they find? What did the data tell us about running backs really two things? Were most important about running the football. The results of run plays are primarily determined by run walking and defenders in the box. The defense and not who's carrying the ball because of that the finding is the inferences. They're running backs are interchangeable and investing a lot of resources whether it's the draft or whether it's free agency just doesn't make a lot of sense is also can be pinned on the changing nature of football itself. By and large. The data tells us that passing more passing. Early is more efficient right absolutely absolutely. I mean it's not even close in terms of the average value of a planet passing versus running on early downs. Then you still have to get into this idea. Of How much does it matter to the mentality of the team? How much does it matter to keep the defense on their toes? How much do you have to do to keep them honest? And so there's no question about how much teams should passing as a percentage of plays but is probably a case. They should be passing more than now. So are there any situations in which running the football is more advantageous absolutely? I absolutely you need to be able to run well at the goal line on Short yardage. If you have a running quarterback like Baltimore had last season definitely scrambling in design runs for quarterback are extremely efficient. Jackson will keep it on the read option expense at the thirty Lamar Jackson. Ted Pa Touch Lavar captain with the spin. This print Emma score. We saw what happened with Baltimore last year. They say hadn't run into that. Tennessee buds buzzsaw in the playoffs. They probably would have made it to the superbowl in my opinion. So there's definitely something to be said for the analytics and say stop running entirely and if you are going to do it do it with deception. Right off of play action. Get the other team guessing. About what your actual formation means and so they lose half a step in responding to what you're doing those are the kind of the things analytics pushes for not not whether or not you should be one hundred percent run or a hundred percent. You mentioned that Tennessee buzzsaw that beat the Baltimore. Ravens upset them. I think a lot of people point to that team to Derrick Henry and say see having a unique generational running back does matter. Look they upset. You Know New England in Baltimore. What would you say to that? I mean he got a twelve point. Five million franchise tag out of that performance. The back end of that year so I understand their point. They're looking at what just happened. They're looking at how he's being rewarded. No saying obviously matters but they beat another rushing team it the problem that I think the face the Ravens and we saw it with Kansas City. And how they didn't share. This same problem was that if you're built around the run whether it's by the quarterback or running it up the middle an wide zone like ravens did last season if you fall behind against a team that is also a ground and pound team in trying to control the clock and control the pace and you put yourself in a position where you have to come back. And you're not used to doing it or you don't have a quarterback quarterback that perhaps his is known for that type of play. You get what happened in in in Baltimore that night Jackson under pressure always lose ball stemming interception Jedi for the titans come up with another turnover hennessy. Titans are shocking the ravens whereas with the city chiefs they fell behind early three straight times but ended up winning the Super Bowl because they have a pass attack higher variants. You could make up ground easier with the passing game that you can with the run. When everything's working great rushing is the first thing you should try. And if you're good at it you should do it as long as you can but when it fails it fails pretty spectacularly and you need to be able to pass and in fact at the NFL level we ever parody is so prevalent that you really should just start out passing at that point because everyone's trying to run and everyone's trying to stop the run so the chiefs are sort of the analytics darling in this scenario because you know they passed their way to the Super Bowl. Josh they also have Patrick Mahomes right. So if you're a team with an average quarterback do you still think it's better to take a pass first approach in every NFL GAME? Even with a mediocre quarterback we find that they are better and teams are better and more efficient passing the ball and in sometimes. It's even more apparent when you have kind of an average or slightly above average quarterback because the defense and the defensive coordinator is almost sure you're going to not rely on them right. They're gonNA say well he's kind of crap you know. They're probably going to run out us all day long. And try and be safe with the ball so to the extent that you can put a mediocre quarterback in good positions like. Perhaps Tennessee did last year. Then you can take quarterback that had been floundering for years like Ryan Tannehill in. Turn him in to one of the best quarterbacks in the league the number one running back by the end of the season a guy that some people thought could have been the super bowl. Mvp was undrafted Damian Williams who is set to make just over a couple million dollars next year. How much does finance or the market factor in to know what we think about running backs today? I think you know if you're a casual fan. And you see everyone else. Basically on the team. Except for the punter and kicker getting more than on average than these running backs. I think it's beginning to percolate that. They're probably not the most important piece on the offense anymore. Things about analytics. Is that unlike baseball? Where like things got more boring? When analytics became involved when analytics can evolved in Football. Become more exciting. We want more passing. We want to go for it on fourth down. We want to know more so I one of the good things about all of this is that you see more aggressive more exciting football when it's played in the way that evidence seems to suggest it should

"Look at the Superbowl Damian Williams was what on drafted Rahim Moster it was cut six times seven Coleman was a third round guy J. John E. ligera blood they've won super bowls you don't need a stud back you just do not need a stud back to win a Superbowl that's not how the game works Johnson's contract it is still a little bit outrageous you know you look at what he's old I would not want to give him that money and I'm absolutely not giving up an asset especially a first round pick no I would not do that I would not suggest that you you make that move and you bring in David Johnson who has the sketchy injury history the inflated contract in already the wear and tear at the running back position I'd be good on that now I wouldn't mind seeing the second part of that them having a second wide receiver next Cortland Sutton who really established himself last season and have drew lock kinda Grohl with a young core of receivers that would certainly be something to be entertaining to six yeah and we'll see what happens with lock you know a John Elway doesn't have the greatest history with quarterbacks Peyton manning fell in his lap that was beautiful for him but ever since then he's been scratching and clawing and trying to find that next guy he tried to sell us on the idea that Joe Flacco was still going to be good this year I don't think and many people thought that was going to be the case and of course it wasn't lock ends up playing so is that the quarterback is he going to be a legitimate franchise kind of guy the jury is still out game so next not a big Trevor Simeon guy all right good to know eight eight eight say than Simeon eight eight eight seven two nine three seven seventy six why should we be talking about your team here on game night Luke in Ohio you're on ESPN radio hello what's up Luke what time should we be talking more I want to know what you are saying about the Steelers not the whole Garrett situational really off but this is probably the best defense secondary why did Todd and I can't remember do you think of Big Ben comes back healthy you think they have what it takes to make it the good playoff push I still don't know home I mean in making fits Patrick was just absolutely fantastic after they traded for him I still don't know if I like trading your first round pick for a safety especially because as you mentioned Big Ben is such a question mark right now Mason Rudolph yes she was involved in that but if he's not the the answer doctor Devlin Hodges is not the answer I would love to see them keep that first round pick in maybe invested in a quarterback you know they thought that they make baby they had the quarterback of the future on the roster I don't think that seems to be the case they've got some young talent offensively James Connor ginger's miss Schuster if you get a quarterback to get specially juju Smith Shuster the ball of the outside the offense becomes a little bit more threatening but they're good young defense you know whether you're taking a look at TJ what with Micah fits Patrick in terms of that that the coverage that they have in the outside be able get after the quarterback the defense is good but quarterback is.

Hail to the Chiefs

"All right so this was an incredibly even matchup but at the end of the day a clear. Oh you're winner emerged Jaylo well and Shakira like let's let's give her due to Yemen Jaylo whatever. She's whatever over she's taking to look and move like that at fifty you know we can all take a lesson from her and And who knew she could move on a pole. It is kind of funny that you know. So how many years. After the wardrobe malfunction we now just have performers on stripper Poles. All right so let's talk about this remarkable game I What was the vibe in the stadium before kickoff? Yeah I mean listen. It's the Super Bowl right. People are excited. I will say that there were a lot more chiefs fans then niners fans and that was kind of to be expected. That's how it's been in Miami all week I think ESPN projected before the game that it was going to be sixty seven percent Kansas the city fans which would make it the most lopsided attendance in history and it really did man. It felt like achieves home game. You had the chance and you know it was a sea of red. Obviously because both nighters and she's fans where red but but chiefs fans definitely were taking over and you could tell when they did the introductory lineups? You could tell. Whenever they they showed chiefs players are coming through the tunnel the stadium which get loud And conversely a lot of booing being whenever the camera would focus on the niners. And you know we've talked a lot in the buildup to this game this week about Kobe. Bryant he just is looming over the world of sports so largely right now now and there was a beautiful tribute to him before the game began. Yeah so there was a moment of silence before America. The beautiful and national and the national anthem were song on Four Koby daughter Jonah and the other seven victims of the helicopter crash. Sure Sunday's they will never be for each of the teams Rosters were lined up on their own twenty four yard line. No Mosh to Kobe's number twenty four as the moment of silence happened and a few players were also wearing purple and gold cleats during warmups. All right so this was expected to be a close game and the first half was incredibly. Even what jumped out at you from that first half. Yeah I mean the first half was super even obviously. We went into to the second half tied at ten The first quarter kind of gave you a setup of how this of how you thought this game was going to go you know. Both teams had strong drives early San Francisco got the running game going out of the gate with deebo Samuel But despite controlling the ball for nearly six minutes in their opening drive that drive only ends in a field goal the chiefs then come back to answer with a really strong drive heavily favoring Running back Damien Williams play action was really working for them in four achieves team. Who's WHO's running game isn't nearly as strong as San Francisco's? This was pretty key for them on that particular drive third and eleven and Patrick mahomes shows off the legs he takes off off and he appears to get the first down but then he fumbles after a hard hit pushes him back. So it's now fourth and one and Andy Reid. has this decision to make. Does he go for word on further on fourth and one it's early in the game. San Francisco's defense was the best in the league. This season on stopping fourth and one And kind of going into this game you know you don't really ever know what he's GonNa do on fourth down but he ends of going for it. And it's absolutely right call Damian Williams gets the first on a short run and Patrick mahomes eventually takes it into the end zone. Himself for the touchdown and the chiefs go up seven to three and early in the second. Quarter Jimmy Garoppolo threw an interception reception and the chiefs and up on a drive with another fourth and one and they go for it again. Yeah and it ends up being the right call again now. Let's remember that Andy. He read only went for it on fourth down ten times in the regular season and here he's gone for it twice in the first twenty minutes of the game so clearly. It's the Super Bowl. He's putting everything on the table and it ends up being the right. Call it results in points. The chiefs the cheesecake field goal. And they go up ten to three okay so at this point Jimmy. Garoppolo has just throw an interception. Forty niners are struggling a bit and it looks like they need a big drive to get back into the game and they get it they did. The the very next drive is really a statement driver San Francisco. The run game really got going. The five straight strong runs including a touchdown throw. Oh a play action pass to a very unlikely hero. Kyle used check the fullback. We got a fullback touchdown in the Super Bowl who also became the first player from Harvard? Ever to score touchdown in the Super

Super Bowl 54 Recap

"Kansas City Thirty One San Francisco Twenty air it. It is Mitchell as he's been waited his whole damn life to make that call and cheese fans. They've been waiting fifty years for their team to Hoist Lombardi and it finally finally happened on this. The second of February two thousand twenty the Kansas City chiefs are the super bowl champions after that thirty one to twenty win over the San the average Cisco Forty nine dollars a game in which they were down like they were all their postseason games by double digits. This time in the fourth quarter and yet Patrick Mahomes and company would not not be denied. Dan Heads here the around the NFL podcast presented by little caesars. And yes I'm coming to you from a hard rock stadium that is filled with heroes mark. Sesser Chris Wesseling and Greg Rosenthal. What is up boys? Hey Dan still filled with some chiefs fans and employs employs. Usually I feel like we start the taping after midnight. got going a little quicker like there's still an MVP chant going on the exciting. These fans. Don't WANNA leave. They've waited. You know half a century for this. Yeah usually when we're here it feels like we're ghosts like passing passing through a stadium and and and you can't. You're not sure if you're humid or not until you get back to the hotel but in this case where here. The field is is covered in confetti. Where on the third level the really Nice hardrock stadium here in Miami was great Super Bowl Week? A lot of fun a great city for a super bowl the eleventh and Super Bowl in this area which is most just past New Orleans and If you're a cheese fan this was the dream come come true and I got to watch the second half of this game in the seats With my cousin Matt and I just you know watching an older gentleman guy looked like he was in his fifties with his wife Cheese FAN IN JERSEY. As that game it became clear. After obviously the Damian will even before the Damian Williams run that clinched it it was becoming clear then the Williams touchdown and then there was this release. Like Oh my God the chiefs are GonNa win the Super Bowl and it was a well-earned win and one that didn't look particularly like it was heading in this direction even halfway through the fourth. That's quarter the chiefs to me. Their players and coach Kinda remind me of the fans. It's been so long since they got that Super Bowl in Randy read. It's been so long a guy like Frank Clark find his way there. Honey Badger finds his way to Kansas City to make this happen. Terrell suggs is lucky enough to come along for the ride at the end of the year. A lot of I just find their way to Kansas City and end up winning this one and you're right fourth quarter at midway through the fourth quarter forty nine hundred ninety five point six percent win probability. I know that's not your stat. The latest evidence that people need to stop talking about win probability it means nothing other than a twitter talking boy. It means it means it's unlikely the other team's GonNa win and now know Kyle Shanahan. Would it peaked at about ninety nine point wait. Six percent against the Patriots early in the fourth quarter always had ninety five point six percent. The percentage. I don't think takes into account Patrick Mahomes uh-huh it just doesn't or the chiefs offense or Andy Reid like the way that you have to dominate Patrick mahomes and make his life. If uncomfortable for sixty minutes I think is the hardest thing to do in the NFL. The forty niners balled out on defense. Not Unlike I believe the the Seahawks balled out on defense against the broncos. They did so many things right for the first three quarters. I think in a lot of scenarios and with a lot of quarterbacks that game would have been twenty seven to six at with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter and they're never could've been a comeback but mahomes got out of a lot of plays blaze. That could have gone worse. He had a lot of negative. Plays the chiefs defense. Did just enough and it just shows you. Yeah you can. You can do a lot while. They held him to five point three yards per play which is a very very low number for the chiefs and she's still put up thirty one points in nine drives. They barely have the ball. They still went over not surprising. Because that's what they've been doing for for months and months and if we had one kernel of information going into the for the last two weeks to to base our analysis on that the chiefs and Patrick Mahomes I would open the third quarter with back to back picks by Patrick Mahomes and that the niners would be nestling a twenty two ten lead minutes into into the fourth. You would think this is a perfect setup for San Francisco to run away with this thing but if you give Patrick Mahomes even ten minutes to operate and it gets hot. Aw everything's off the table. Fifty fifty two and a half minutes of game time the niners down day and I remember thinking as has the game was reaching as it's ticking through the fourth quarter and they have a twenty two ten lead and thinking what made the chief. So unstoppable all when they were humming the regular season but especially in those two comebacks in the AFC playoffs it. was that big play ability. That the niners there's through their dominant front four. Were taking away. Mahomes running for his life just by his brilliance kept the game close because is almost any other quarterback decided. Lamar Jackson has a couple sacks. Fumbles and the game gets away. Like what Von Miller Cam Newton a few years back but he was able to stay on his feet. Keep the game from getting away and the what really sticks out to me at that moment again. Midway through the fourth quarter after the tyreek hill catches is overturned on review. And you feel the entire building is psyching up. It feels like the niners are about to make the big play. Plays away from winning the super. Aw It is third and a miles third and fourteen. I believe third and fifteen and I leaned to my cousin Matt. I said the most likely play. Is You get try to get half of this back and then make a manageable fourth-down fourth and five and get it done. But no that's not what the chiefs do that's not how they operate and even a game where they never made any big plays with the season on the line mahomes dropback. This time found tyreek Hill West on a busted coverage and that changed

"Ring and it was one heck of a ball game in these Kansas City Chiefs give him all the credit the world it look for you know for for for all the marbles here in the fourth quarter that you know Kyle Shanahan and and the San Francisco forty Niners who were putting consistent pressure on Patrick my homes all night long forcing them out of the pocket making him uncomfortable you know the sum of throws you could tell were under duress but when he needed it most more homes came through the big gun third down in fifteen conversion to tie re kill and how about Damian Williams shady McCoy tonight was a healthy scratch and if you ask yourself you know I wonder why what is in the sea that we don't see and I saw shady house in Miami during the week and and I swallow Sean during the week I didn't have the I knew because the it worded already started to leak out that he wasn't going to play he was a healthy scratch you know most of the post season and he wasn't going to to play in the Superbowl either and now you know why the the lead running back for the Kansas City Chiefs Damian Williams a quad side controversial as I mentioned touch down on the swing pass around the right side of a quarter of the end zone it was a third down play additionally called a touchdown as the the tip of a football broke the plane the question for some of you that are on the other side of the celebration going tonight is that the maybe the the toll was out of bounds before the ball broke the plane none the less they did not reverse the call the call stands obviously Shanahan loses a a Todd did you lose a time out there Jack was at a did he owe owed knows a scoring play so since it was a scoring play he did not have to use it I didn't have to throw the red flags we didn't lose a time out but the improper use the poor use I mean he committed el do you read like mistakes tonight did Kyle Shanahan and for the second time in three years he spent the bit as far as his play calling is concerned they were running the football down the chief thrown all night long and when they had a second five on that drive you chose to throw the football and second of five in complete third and five in complete punt and here come the chiefs it did the the momentum got swung to the chief side by the poor play calling and it's not just me some of the experts after the games of the same thing by Kyle Shanahan so interesting the way this all played out you can really rely on the run game to which was their strongest suit in that final three minutes like he had that qualifying you throw in the final three minutes even in that last drive and and I said you know yeah in years past and I remember the super bowls the all the great forty niner teams had the the big difference between those teams and the last two forty nine teams that have been in the Superbowl have been the quarterback position because Colin Kaepernick couldn't get it done against the ravens what was that's going back about eight nine years now yeah I think twenty fifth what we have technology like what the which super ball is the one in New Orleans at the lights went out and Jimmy go Rapallo tonight when most he needed to take his team down the field we have that one last chance to get the interception of the chief come up with the pick to just see all things but what are you what are your years back to a Joe Montana would he have gone down the field hit rice it Taylor you know he hit the the tight end hit baby Roger Craig out of the backfield this was Jimmy Garoppolo as the old a member in the in the political debates I know Joe Montana and Jimmy Garoppolo you're no Joe Montana AGL now if not Jody and I know Steve young and I guess what Jimmy Garoppolo you're no Steve young lady he played I mean by the way is twenty thirteen the lesson twenty thirteen that was with captain a good quarterback against the ravens he came up short and then I go rob Lowe comes up short to be is it these are very different times for the San Francisco forty Niners at the quarterback

Chiefs' Tyreek Hill reportedly day-to-day after hamstring injury, could return in Week 13 vs. Raiders

"Big Win for the chiefs last night. no doubt about got it and they needed it at have it out of habit. It's in division. It is a road win technically indecision for Kansas City and So check doc box and they needed it but win because guess what. Raiders are out on their heels. Raiders have the same number of losses raiders. Now with the chiefs on their are by week head to New Jersey to take on the jets who have suddenly piece together a couple of wins in a row and this. This will not be easy for Oakland. Oakland and I'm sure gruden will be knocking on wood. If you with me about how difficult you know this Guy Jamal. Adams is and this guy. Darnall just threw four touchdowns but it's a win against a three win team on the road away from tying the chiefs and having a game in in Kansas City with the chiefs coming back from their bye week in week Baker's dozen with the AFC West Online. And I think that's all kinds of delicious. But for the time being the chiefs chiefs did their part to set that up as a possibility the reverse would have been far more difficult for them to handle going into a bye week and sure enough. I was concerned about that turf. There were large chunks of it coming up. tyreek Hill hurt his hamstring. We're assuming zooming he'll be fine after a week off the bye and Mahomes if you told me Christopher Brockman never actually let's flip flip the script if I told you if I told you the dafter Patrick mahomes defending. Mvp of your national the football league that his kneecap was on the side of his right leg. I told you the very next day. Not only would he only missed two games but the chiefs would definitely have him out on the field in Mexico where the game had to be cancelled due to concerns over turf that he would be out there. We would be seeing chunks of turf coming up and he would be the leading rusher of the Kansas City chiefs. What if I told you that fact no chance as what happened sure enough? That's more more more more impressive. Things too is that the chiefs the chiefs only got one hundred. Eighty two passing yards out of mahomes. It was the second least productive night and that statistical category for his entire career the only time in which he has thrown for less in a game was the game I just referred to where the KNEECAP was on the side of his leg and he got knocked out of it. Just after seventy six yards passing. But he had fifty-nine rush yards in the game. CAREER-BEST I'm telling you chiefs fans. You need to find a running game. I don't know maybe it's that other kid Williams who came in for Damian Williams. Maybe IT'S DARYL I duNno. We'll Shawn McCoy. Had some nice runs. You did have to rushing touchdowns not from homes. Last night. I get it to us the bigger phrase I get get it but What what what I need to see from his chiefs team moving forward with old man winter paying a visit more often than not this team it looks like for this team to make the Super Bowl? Not only will they have to win based on things all right now now. Not only will they have to win a wild card weekend home game but they are gonNA have to go into Baltimore or into new New England after winning that home game and beat the Patriots and or Ravens in their houses in a mid January on a presumably very cold mid January day. They are going to have to run the ball. They cannot let Baltimore or and New England pin near years back and go chase mahomes and there will be a dress rehearsal for that actually for the Kansas City chiefs coming up in week fourteen when they visit New England after playing that game against the raiders. There'll be that Dress rehearsal. We'll see how they can fair in that one but they need to find a running game name and right now they don't have somebody that can just carry it fifteen to twenty times a game and give the chiefs the the proper amount of breathing room and the proper amount of play action viability right now. I'm not seeing it. I haven't haven't seen it with consistency and that concerns me about this team's super bowl hopes

"The field to stay in this offense. Like on the field. I don't really you. Can't really have much of a complaint for what Kareem hunt could do in did doing this offense. So I don't think anything is gonna appointment of saying Damien woods better fit as a football player. I think Dana, it's going to be in a little bit of a committee, like I think, you know, we saw the Kareem got the lion share stuff. There was some rotational guys that kind of sifted in here and there I think we're gonna see Davey and get the bulk. I mean they've called him running back one, but I think we are going to see plenty of Carlos Hyde. I think we are going to see plenty of Darwin Thomson James lives. What's that gonna see plenty of James not because all we got a one out? Yeah. No, I just think that he's just not going to get the same opportunities. He's a different blend of back. I wouldn't wanna give him the same amount of opportunities. At Kareem hunt got he's still very good back. This run game is still going to operate at a very very, very high level. I just I just don't think that they are a like for like comparison, they don't need Damian Williams to be Kareem hunt. It does not matter. They are going to be just fine. They were just fine without cream hunt last year. It he's not the same dude. He's not gonna they don't have a workhorse necessarily in. It doesn't matter. They are going to be just fine in the running game. Speaking of running backs another fight. I wanna see his tunnel. Ask Neo versus Darwin Thompson. Oh, Darwin might win that. That would be a fun to what it kinda would. And I you, you won you won the day because that's that's the answer. Fantasy Football: Dream destination for Le'Veon Bell

"Taking the very high end fantasy glory impossible. But what if pick your love this? And this is levian bell the Kansas City Chiefs. Yes, let it happen. I let it happen. They were just a weren't. They just about one level away from a Super Bowl title last year. Wouldn't you say? Bruce worth just eleve- bell away. Yes. I mean, they almost got there with Damian Williams, and I would dance a beautiful dance on the fantasy grave of Damian Williams. If left bell were to go to Kansas City now lev bell at his current asking price would only cost the chiefs about two two and a half times more per yard than any other running back in football. They also investment they also need to find an extension for tyreek hill. They've got gotta find an extension for Chris Jones. This is a near impossibility. But what if I mean the question was what are you most want to see happen? I wanna see what Patrick Mahomes does with Sammy Watkins Levy on bell. Tyreek hill and Travis Kelsey. I think you saw it was what he did with cream. Yeah. You're right. You're right Damien Williams. But that is that's full man from the Mancha that isn't impossible. Now, the reason why the even comes up is on the basis of. Whenever of any team has a quarterback on a rookie contract. They have the opportunity to exploit the the capital positions. But they do have talented players need extensions is not likely to happen left. Bell to can't hear Helms already going into your three. Let's take a step back and just say how about love bell to a good team. That's what I'd most like to see happen and free agency have belly. Luckily that bell to Indianapolis. No bell to Kansas City. Love bell to somebody that is above five hundred. I think the only I think the only good team if you're talking last year, the only good team would be Houston. What about two more? I don't think they'll all they won't go pay. Yeah. All but they would not be the biggest knife twist in vision the teams with the cap money that wanna make the run and need the big name or probably teams like the jets and the raiders which leave. Yeah, volume. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Thanks, guys. Appreciate

"How you think this would play in Chicago if they made that move because obviously, it's a very sensitive issue. Chicago sports fans right now having just not through this. Yes. I don't know. It's a great question. I'm of the belief that the Addison Russell narrative is stronger narrative because he's not good. If Addison Russell would have lived up to the reputation he had after sixteen he's been in unlikable player the last couple of years because the lack of product productivity, and then you read all the stories, and you're like, what do we need this? This guy for let's say Addison, Russell put a Povey bias type numbers with the narrative Chicago be different about how cubs fans feelers. And. Yeah. So. The better you are the longer. The least you got no question. Go ahead, Greg. I'm Brandon marshal was given a second chance if you could embrace Brandon Marshall after all the e sixty pieces and all the outside the line pieces that we knew about in Denver. If you're open to giving a guy a second chance, and you believe in the person, shouldn't you be of the belief that? Yes, this guy I'm open to it as well. Oh, absolutely. I think he's going. I think Korean is going to be on a roster next year. Now, he'll have to go through the suspension. And I don't think any of these games that he's missed being on the Commissioner's example. So the NFL lists. I don't think those will count toward his suspension. But look he's a he's a guy who set all kinds of records as a third round draft pick his talent is there. Although I will say it's interesting looking at what the chiefs I've done without him Damian Williams, I think and the chiefs rushing attacks averaged I literally to a decimal point the exact same yards per play or yards per rushing attempts before Kareem hunt without green all that being said he's still a dynamic playmaking weapon. He will be on a roster somewhere. Reuben foster was signed by a team that was a sinking ship in Washington. And they knew they couldn't even play him this year, and they signed him. So absolutely. He's inside. Yeah. I think that's the case as well. It'd be interesting to see what the bears eventually do at this point in time is not of the essence. And I think Ryan kind of summarize the conversation with the last comment. He said, look we're not there yet. So we'll see what happens for sure. And then let me yes. There's no need for them to be there yet. Right. Let me ask you one more theory. What is yours on Adam gays? We had on here never seen that before. I watched his press conferences by never seen that before what happened yesterday. Well, I honestly I think a couple of things one. I just think he's a guy that is not comfortable in front of a lot of cameras. I I really believe that true. I've met him a couple of times it NFL owners meetings. You'll he's there's some people rhetoric loves it eats it up with a spoon, blah, blah, blah. It's all great. And that's his that's his John. That's just that's where he's comfortable. Adam is not that guy. He's he's basically for lack of a better term, personality wise men, just let me do my freaking job and studied the film. I don't want to deal with all this garbage. I think that's one of the reasons why Peyton Manning speak. So highly of when you watch that detail thing we have on ESPN plus Payton, it's incredible the breakdowns, and that's what he's all about. And I think that helps teams win gays book. But unfortunately, as a head coach, you are of you are frontman on a lot of levels. You are a CEO. You are the face of the organization you are the face of the team. And I don't think that's something that he's really. Comfortable doing, and I think it just sort of spiraled out of control if you haven't Google, Adam gay NFL, taco me my suggestion. Tastic fantasies thirty seconds of your day that you will not regret. You will not what those thirty seconds back. You'll want to replay it over and over again. I just think he's in those situations. He's just an awkward. He's not comfortable. And it just it just sort of went out of control. What was the last time you ever saw him without a hat on and in a coat, and it never happens. Right. Yeah. We didn't even know and he was coach here for a while that he was follicly-challenged. So we thought he full head of hair guy. Yeah. I mean, people that get some of his press conferences in Miami. Like, I don't know, man. I've done we're good. Can we move on? I mean, he's just not a happy place for him. And it it came out in a most on your wall somewhat interesting way yesterday in New York, Trey great stuff as always. We'll be listening tomorrow. Thank you. Extract, taco me babies..

"So you mentioned the chiefs running game post Kareem hunt. Damian Williams has done a really close facsimile of Kareem hunt. Not easy news. The Russian champ last year in the running game one spot in week six where cream hunt was special was receiving the football, and that one spot Damien Williams is not as good just flatly cream. Hunt was underrated as far as his ability. Can't see likes doing the screen game to using their running back and he got a touchdown on a wheel route up the field that I haven't seen Damien Williams do that. So that part of the chiefs offense will be different. But I think this part of the pats offense will be different one of the reasons they were able to hang forty three on Kansas City, rob gronkowski ninety seven yards receiving. We haven't seen that we've seen that from gronk once in the last ten weeks of the season. Josh Gordon five for forty two including the first pass of the game targeted a bunch of other. He's not on the team anymore. So how so the pats got one hundred thirty nine yards from those two guys and invented patriot fashion. They didn't have an accepted penalty the entire game. So they were never hurting themselves. And they never punted. They went on a fourth down and don't get no punt so penalties. No pump last two you can count on again. Probably obviously, we don't know what gronk is gonna do. We haven't seen it. And there's no Josh Gordon, but you can where. I assured this team's gonna be buttoned up penalty. They're not going to be highly penalized. I I don't think it'll be zero zero of, but they, but you can you can rely they will have a long gated drives. They will be able to convert on third down and that they're not going to be highly penalized. There the other thing to seize point, which is in the first this game was twenty four nine pats at halftime. It was kind of remarkable the chief we're able to take a second half lead. When you're down fifteen point halftime in that building. And why was it twenty four nine on the first Dr Patrick Mahomes misses an open receiver for touchdown. That's the nerves. They settle for a field goal in the second drive. He gets picked on the fourth drive. They have first and goal from the seven. They settle for a field goal on the fifth drive of this of the half. He's picked in the red zone again. This is right before halftime. Yes. So the chiefs had a bunch of scoring opportunities. Couldn't convert it two touchdowns or else. Forty-three wouldn't have been enough of the for the patriots the question. I wanted to ask you about which I just seemed would be a big topic headed in. Into this title game was going to be experienced and how top to bottom the patriots have it. They've been there. They've done that from the coaching down to the players. They don't get rattled. But Petra Mahomes wasn't rattled in the divisional round. He came out. He looked great early on..

"That looks great the Patrick Mahomes on the left arm. I like it very much well done Peter King with Patrick Mahomes. There will be a full feature on the pre-game show this Saturday before the colts take on the chiefs. Three PM eastern. Coverage begins on NBC more on Peter's discussion with Patrick Mahomes at football morning in America. You can find out a pro football talk dot com. What was your big takeaway from your time with Mahomes? How none of this really surprised him? He did say that the numbers he looks at him sometimes and he's while. But I think nothing has surprised because Andy Reid has set a path for him and for his team, and he realizes at one point we were talking about how he realizes he is in this special place at this special time with the weapons in the spread field. He understands this. Offense is perfect for him. And when you have a coach like Andy Reid who loves using the fifty three and a third yards of the field. They spread the field wide, and they basically say pick your poison to a defense, and especially might this is not been talked about very much. But especially if you get Sammy Watkins back for this game. And I believe he's gonna play in this game. That's the element of speed. Additionally to tyreek hill that hasn't been there the last couple of weeks or late in the season, and the one last thing that's been really good for them is they found out the Damian Williams is not just a spare-part who you put in when Kareem hunt season ends unceremoniously the way it did. Damian Williams is actually a good and contributing piece to a great offense. That was an underrated really really good signing by GM Brett VH as much as I've killed the chiefs for spending six. Fifteen million dollars on a guy who's got chronic foot problems? In Sammy Watkins, you gotta give credit to reach for signing and finding Damian Williams. You know, a backup on the roster. Miami Dolphins he's been a godsend late in the season. And you mentioned Watkins he really is the key. The offense was much more dynamic. It's still pretty good in the hands of Patrick Mahomes. But when you have Atari killing his Sammy Watkins both of whom can stretch the field. It makes it so much harder to defend the rest of the team. It's impossible to blanket. Both guys. One of those guys is going to be open all the time. So if Watkins can play that's a huge boost for the chiefs, if they take on a sneaky, great colts team that has won ten out of eleven games down the stretch as to Mahomes, and I think the all pro voting that was announced on Friday forty five votes from a homes five for drew Brees at the quarterback position. I think that tells us Mahomes is going to win the MVP award. And let's assume that he gets it. I blurted out on the show a few weeks ago that I think Mahomes could win seven, and I know that he's got to stay healthy. But when we see the skill set when we see what he has done in his first season. In as a starter, the work ethic that's gotten to this point made Patrick Mahomes. One five I don't think it's ridiculous to put the over under from a homes MVP awards at Peyton Manning's five, and I'm tempted to take the over Peter. I, you know, the one the only thing I would say about that is that you know, he's not sort of your classic pocket quarterback. He takes chances in the pocket physically. But Mike, I mean, you can't say anything negative remotely about this guy. And I think one of the things that that I learned being with him for whatever Forty-five minutes. The other day is is this very simple you've seen. Now. The, you know, the footage of him throwing the ball with the no look pass recreating that. And here's the great thing about that. It just tells you that he can maneuver a defense, and he can maneuver defense with his eyes and his actions. In other words, does anybody really think he's going to do this with the ball when he's looking straight ahead? No, nobody does. But he's shown he can. And he can be accurate doing it. It's just another weapon that he has which tells me that long term long term that there are other things that he's going to be very very good at that the average classic drop back. Quarterback isn't very good at and that's why I look in this modern game this new game with all the bells and whistles on an offense. And I'm saying there's nobody right now who's close nobody who can do it. And do it. I must say with the accuracy that he has that's a huge huge factor in this Lamar Jackson's agreed runner and everything he's not as accurate as Patrick Mahomes. Think about everything Mahomes brings to the table. He forces you to defend the entire field. You can never trust your is based upon where his eyes are. Because now we know he's capable of throwing it any direction, regardless of where he's looking he'll throw it with his left hand if he needs to he'll run to create space to throw the ball and he can throw the ball accurately while on the run. He doesn't have to be planned, and he doesn't have to have a base. It's that shortstop mentality where the arm is at every different angle because he's used to throw into first with his arm at every different angle. It's a new breed of quarterback, Peter. And there's no one else like him until there's someone else like him who is as good as he's going gonna run the sport. Agree, totally Mike and just keep in mind over the years shortstop shortstop shortstop. He told me overwhelmingly that was huge in his development. NBC sports radio update.

"Just with the receivers in this round because you have Tilak who was awesome, but doesn't catch the ball very much, but he was a great fantasy receiver and he closed the season with his last game in the playoffs. When we had four catches for one hundred twenty yard showing you at the upside is with three straight games of at least, twelve PR points. That's a starting caliber PR wide receiver. And then you have the host of young guys second-year Calvin Ridley second-year DJ more second year, Dante Pettis third year Chris Godwin third year. Mike williams. These all were receivers who went in this round. And so you look at the third year guys. I don't know if Mike Williams gonna get dramatically better in this offense with hunter Henry coming back. He was good at times, but very inconsistent. And I don't know if you're going to get that breakout season. I'm hoping for it because I like Chris God when situation but. We don't know who the coach is going to be. And as we saw he was good at times. But this appointing others now just on Jackson's gone. So I like the upside for Chris Godwin. But what about the second you guys? Okay. So you've heard Adam as say Dante Pettis is going to be one of the players targets. He was great ones. Peer- gone market win started battling injuries and we'll get Jimmy Garoppolo back. You have these more who showed flashes when Cam Newton one hundred percent healthy. But will he be that guy next year, and then Calvin Ridley who was a little bit touchdown dependent. But certainly showed flashes of being a great wide receiver. I think this is the spot where Cooper mix in with all these guys. This was a great round of taking receivers that have plenty of upside where ceiling goes, maybe not the same thing that Cooper Cup has because we seen it. But still that's where these guys sort of fall into place. So this is Regan you start to take chances on guys that have high ceilings, maybe lower floors, high ceilings, the Damian Williams pick. I thought was amazing. And this is one that I overlooked myself. I would probably take over guys. And so if he does come back season as the guy with maybe a ROY. Rookie compliment. I would not be surprised Damien Williams as the best running back against sitting twenty nineteen. That would be something wasn't it. Yeah. By the way, if he does come into camp as the league is however are around six about it's going to be round to round three. I don't know that high because we saw some of the guys there may be back into round guy around. He's not exactly a feature guy over the course of sixteen games. It will depend on who else. They have on the roster. But I think no later than run for he I I was very curious to see where he was going to go in the Strath because there's so much uncertainty with him. Here's what we know is that Damian Williams will be on the chiefs roster in twenty nineteen he could be anywhere from the lead guy to special teams contributor catches three balls game. There's there's so much fluctuation with him, but round six is right around the time where you're going to start taking players that have that type of crazy high upside and crazy low downside, and you talked about it with a lot of the receivers that went, and I I don't have a problem with him going here in this draft. And then you look at the running backs that win late round five Drake Ingram. Miller. Howard. Always that more on doesn't he as a now? At. That's what you gotta go on drafting in January. I thought also another interesting pick was was devante Freeman. I took Tevin Coleman with the thought of you know, again, we don't know where he's been applying. But not that Lanta. I tell you what I could see him. Can't see, you know, he's the type of guy that they could turn into a star based on. He's a one cut and go, you know, catch ball the backfield. At least he did early career use them as much as I would have liked to see them in Atlanta this season or really understood Circasian, but between Coleman and devante Freeman running back that went in this round who should you know, hopefully back at one hundred percent, and I I would expect ten plus games of of good fancy production..

"We're so lucky to be in the situation. Now, we got three shots at it. We come away with two of them. We've got one more. So you've got all of our chips. Steve has special teams they throw their shots their last game. And we are too. So it's gonna be a fun game. You play coaches now imagine either player, so he's out there. The chiefs of already beaten Oakland once again, they lead thirty three to sixteen going into the fourth quarter. Only to have the raiders scored twice to make a game out it then Patrick Mahomes and the offense blew down the field. Seventy five yards for the clinching score. That was the game in which tight end Travis Kelsey put up career numbers. Twelve catches for one hundred sixty eight yards and two touchdowns. And last week Kelsey broke Tony Gonzalez record for most receiving yards in a season by chiefs tied in. He's just two catches away from the first one hundred receptions season of his career. He's made the tenth most catches in the NFL this season. Meanwhile, tyreek hill is six league and receiving yards and just fourteen yards away from breaking Derek Alexander's eighteen-year-old franchise, Mark. But even without Kareem hunt in for the last two weeks without Spencer ware who's expected back today. "Pat. What's up everybody? Thanks for joining today. Swanson, I'm the lead film and draft analyst for aero head pride. This is the AP laboratory where myself Craig style and Matt lane all get together. Talk about last week's game look ahead to next week's opponents. And it's not really a week that any of us really want to be talking about last week's game. Very rough performance for the chiefs. Ultimately, losing twenty nine twenty eight to the Los Angeles chargers at home on airi'q bery day on Tony Gonzales day on Thursday night football at home on a night where they could clinch the division and would have clinched the one seed after the result of the patriots Steelers game. Yeah. That was a mouthful sorry. I just I had to go there. It was it was a bad. It was a bad game. And it was it was very frustrating for anybody watching that game. That's probably listening to this podcast because you're hardcore cheese fan. I I have a lot of opinions on this game. I know Craig and Matt do to. We're going to ask them. We're gonna ask about Eric berry. We're going to ask Craig just about the defense as a whole wanted to talk real quick about Patrick Mahomes. I I thought you know, I thought there was a lot of redeeming qualities about his performance. I thought that there was just a real rough stretch in the second half when the chiefs really needed him to kinda step up that he wasn't his best. And we'll be writing about that on Thursday on Arrowhead pride. If you go back and kind of watch the I think it was the last touchdown drive of the of the game for them where they were they were driving and Patrick Mahomes. I think he I think he just had some inconsistencies one time the ball comes out of his hand while he's kind of almost inbetween, you know, decision on who to throw to just kind of throws it into the ground. And then tries his RPO tries to sidearm throw to Chris. Conley tight coverage on an RPO and throws Damian Williams out of bounds on a swing route. You're just kind of like this. I just got this like ominous feeling about like how? Things were kind of going to be going. I guess in kind of manifested itself. I think you know, I think they really struggled to to put that drive together. They were lucky to score on that drive got build out by some penalties. Did ultimately step up and make a couple throws that were really impressive. But overall, you know, I think it just wasn't enough for the kid. And that's th that's that shouldn't be an indictment on him. I don't want to say that in thinking that we should be blaming Patrick Mahomes or anything he's being more than enough for this team for such a long stretch this season that you just need to be fair to him. But acknowledge that I mean in this particular situation Philip rivers finish stronger than him. And that's okay. That's not going to be the norm for the rest of his career, Patrick Mahomes as been exceptional. This year deserves every bit of credit that he's getting. So just you know, hopefully this week he bounces back and hopefully. Enough for this team to go out in and make statements get right back on track and clinch this one seat at home against Oakland. Regardless of whatever every other team. Does this team is still the ones he's still well positioned if they can win these next two games? They're the one seed, and they control their own destiny will bring on here shortly to talk about he we'll talk to Craig after that. And then we'll answer a lot of fantastic questions. Probably the best batch of questions we've ever got on the male Beck..

"Speaking of perfect. He's a perfect fit for the Kansas City Chiefs, the winningest coach in history sixty four wins in has us in position as a one seed to get it done, folks. Here we go and it's time to go down the stretch. We're in December football in a gigantic week. So give him all the spirit. You got head coach Andy Reid the Kansas City Chiefs. Good evening coach. If we've got in there somewhere in airy. Here we go. Now, we got your coach. All right. Thank you. Let's do it again. Andy Reid head coach. Let's get a toy. Let's go. All right. We've got to get everybody fired up coach there. Well, hey, you know, we talked about Sunday Thursday football last Monday night. Meaning it's just crazy. It's a fire drill. But then on the back side of it. It's kinda strange. It's almost feel like a mini by in a way. What about how you guys handled Friday Saturday Sunday and even today? Yes. I gave the guys some time off air to get themselves. Back though, come back in here. Refreshed and ready to go. I guess a big opponent. So we've got a nice challenge. I guess this. When we go to Seattle and look forward to it. It's all about you get to this time of the year. It's great to have this opportunity. On ask you about Thursday night and really kind of going back maybe two week ago Sunday in the overtime win over the ravens. But some new guys or new roles. We just heard Daryl Williams touchdown. I'm gonna ask you first about Damian Williams and just what he's doing for your football team in our football team in the different things, you're asking him to do and how he's emerging what about Damian Williams Damian did a nice job for us. News one of the bright spots. Of the night. Iran weli. He caught the ball Weli. The blocked. Well, so he really stood out there. I wanna ask you about him picking up protections. Because that's what we don't see. We're following the ball when I review the tape. How good is he right now picking up some protections. Quickly ravens game when they were just blitzing almost every snap. Yeah. No. He did. He did a nice job. And. I'm proud of him for that. He's worked hard at that. And and so he did a nice job last couple of weeks with it. The other thing we just heard Daryl Williams first National Football League touchdown on that screen that you ran a here's a guy that's an undrafted free agent at of LSU, basically a recruiting coup for you to get him a guy that played behind four net and great running backs at LSU could've transferred stated LSU, but what about him and what he means in his possible ceiling for this team. He's done a nice job of stepping in and getting some quality reps for us. It's a nice job by our personnel department breviary and his his crew there that that they brought him here and then to for Brett keeping them here. And and then for coaching them did a nice job with them and getting them ready to play. He's a smart kid tough kid and enjoys a game. So giving them an opportunity of he's really taking advantage of that. And I always say camp never lies a lot of you get to go to training camp. Right. How many go to camp in Saint Joe everyday matters. I say this about coach to he makes every day matter, but how much did you see in the case of Daryl even way back Riddick rookie minicamp and in the OTA's and Saint Joe that he had a chance to contribute to this team. Not only this year, but beyond. Yeah. We we felt good about that. As a training camp went on. He kept showing up. On the tape and during practice, so we caught our eye and again, he catches it. Well, he's a big kid runs it. Well, good vision. And and he's a good blocker. So all those things add up to a good solid football player. And he's just having an opportunity now to get some experience and get in there and play. So this is great for just a bit of an oddity. They're eight scores in the chargers game combined between the two teams six were made by guy's name Williams. Just putting it out there. All right. Like that matters. What does matter though, is a guy like Kelvin Benjamin. You got him involved in the game last Thursday night. What about his potential to help down the stretch and this week against Seattle Kelvin's big kid in a nice route earned on our sideline. They're done a three yard line or so and. Again, big target for for our quarterback. And. Those guys are easy to throw to because they're catch radius is so big and he he he's just learning though. So we're trying to feed them plays. As we go here and see how he handles all that the offenses complicated. And but he's working like crazy to get it down. And then after twenty nine game weeks number twenty nine Eric berry made it back to the field and. You had mentioned gonna keep him on a pitch count. When I was watching the video the game. I he had an impact I think on eight of the twenty-first snaps just what he means to get him on the field and his energy and his ability to help the defense and even little bits at a time as you move forward. Yeah. That's great. Then back. He loves to play the game and his personality and football personality infectious. Oh. Makes everybody better. That's what great players do. And so to have them out. There was was good. He'll continue to build build up as the football part of it too where he's comfortable plan more and more as we go along here. So and that's the objective. We didn't want to take these steps backwards with him. And he didn't wanna take these steps backwards. And I think it worked out well sore, but it was a good source. Oh, he hill. Be back out of practice. And we'll see how he does this week. Speaking of source, something we need to acknowledge here. Sonic other quarterbacks are sore. Folks, what you need to know the Minnesota Vikings lead the National Football League with forty seven sacks right behind with forty six sacks the Kansas City Chiefs. It's an impressive stat coach, and it comes from eleven different guys. You got a couple of guys with double digits, but just your ability to pressure. This is kind of turned into a sack and stripped league if you will but your ability to be right there at the top of the league in one of the most important categories. Yeah. Our our front and secondary. When they have an opportunity to blitz done a nice job. So. We've got to keep that up. That's that's so important in today's football with all the passing going on. So. There's some guys that are gearing up. We got tightened some things up on the back in there a little bit. And and take advantage of that even more maybe than we are right now. So but the guy that front that front group there the Outside Linebackers and D line. They're they're bringing it, and they give you a healthy down every snap there. They have an opportunity, and they hit the cornerback more than anybody in the National Football League and pressure made a move move the pocket. So also, those are all positive things that should help you down the road here. An oppressive need that this week against Russell Wilson. We all know how good that Seattle quarterback is. But I want to ask you about the Seattle game. So here we are Seattle's not in. They could have made it in yesterday in the NFC side of the bracket ambush by San Francisco and overtime. We take care of business coach where the one seed with the by everything's right there in front of us. What about this week and playing Seattle up there? Yeah. We've got to bring great energy. And when you go out there. It's it's loud. It's similar to our place here. When teams come in and be in the right frame of mind. And you gotta go in there with aggressive attitude and take care of business. And and so that's what we're going to focus on this week. We're going to prepare that way. Ourselves right to take business there. And what about the position that were in you've been a head coach in this league for twenty years? And I know you've been in spots before where you're saying if we win with these three other things have to happen. I mean, this is pretty clear because it's right there right in front of you. It's like being on the seventeenth hole of a golf tournament. And if you just pour out you win the tournament because they have the tiebreakers this positioning for your team. And to be in that spot where you got everything in your hands. The guys have earned it to this point. Got you got to finish take care of business. And our guys will come back though. Good energy. We we have a good locker room, and we took a little bit in there on Thursday and we've got a bounce back. And that's what character teams do. And so expect him to come back in here and be ready to go and and and have a good game against Seattle. And you know, it's like I said, it's a great atmosphere their backs to the wall or as you have an opportunity here to go go play in that venue. That's you can't ask for anything more than. Who's ready for that game? Let's go beat Seattle. Right. Let's get this done. One of the things I've loved over the last six years. So you being here with sixty four wins. How you've developed players our guest tonight. Coach is the sheepdog Garrick theater. The sheepdog is our guest tonight your thoughts on developing wide receiver. Yeah. He's he he is a developing wide receiver quarterback. He's quarterbacks best friend man that doesn't get any better than that. So, but he works his tail off. He did it in college. He's done at this level here. He's good specialties player and also a good wide receiver. Somebody like I said that the quarterback trust. So when you're in the quarterbacks respect like that. That's that's important, and he'll continue to get better. As is. He goes on just. Because he works so hard and his attitude and everything he's a good good person and a good football player. And he is the sheepdog is a Sheba. You could share that head of his and Megan ice well blanket for yourself. Some of the people getting that idea. We're gonna let coach get back to work. But before we do, let's give a big cheer. This a big week people. We gotta do this. Let's go head coach Andy Reid. Out of those redheads. We're here when we come back. We will talk about the sheepdog. And is he Patrick Mahomes best friend, or is there a be we're going to get to the bottom of this. We are at the high market grill in mission the cheese kingdom show. Also brought to you by bad. Boy Moore's we'll be back with guaranteed or after this. You're listening to exclusive coverage of peace football. Right now, the marks are leading to say seven to three and that is just one of the few surprising scores of early in action. Another one this one's in Kansas City, the homes under center, Damian Williams. Touchdown city. Chiefs strike forest tasting the sweet neck for the end zone. Damian Williams gets his first touchdown as a chief. Sweet nectar of that call on the cheese radio network. The chiefs went up early. And then they went down ten seven to the ravens. They just scored again the chiefs did so it's not fourteen to ten over Baltimore. They have the ball. They're driving with about two minutes left to go in the first half chiefs. Of course, the number one scoring offense. The ravens the number one scoring defense. And I think we're all a little bit ravens fans right now. A couple of other scores dimension at the moment. The dolphins trailing the patriots twenty seven twenty one at the two minute. Warning there the giants all over the Redskins twenty four to twenty Redskins. Just can't get a break here right now. The Colson Texas that it's seven the Packers on top of the founding seventeenth seven the Browns trailing the Panthers suffocate fourteen and the bills on top of the jets seventeen thirteen. "Hill he got a shoestring. And it's a good thing. He did. Because there was a lot of open grass and open field in front of tyreek hill, it's going to give my little flip play any way. They can get the football. Tyreek hill out in space expected cheese to try to do the second half. We got five second and five football just off that Steeler logo. Painted on the center of the field. Staff back to Mahomes turn throws. Right polling down to make the catch, though is hill. Into pittsburgh. Territories tackle by sensible. A gain of four there. Cody sensible playing off coverage respecting the speed of tyreek hill tyreek hill just shut down at about six yards. He actually falls down to a knee, but springs up just a time to catch the ball and move chains. The officials will spot the ball at the forty three that's enough for a first out. So first and ten shifting out of the I formation of the chiefs homes. As a full back to his right? Takes the snap crops. Back. Looks down. The middle throws looking for Kelsey caught the eighteen falling down tackled at the eleven yard line homes and Kelsey after only connecting one time last week are really in a groove. Now. Let's exact same play. The last touchdown pass to Travis Kelsey trips to the nearside Travis Chelsea's at number three position the inside wide receiver, and he's just gonna work just past the linebackers and he's going to work back to the middle of field. Split the safety. Safeties can't get their linebackers lose him underneath the nice pitch. And catch in the middle of the field for Patrick Mahomes. Travis Kelsey thirty one yards on the game, Damian Williams running back. Those out of the backfield aligns up in the slot left side three receivers. Right. I intended the twelve Mahomes takes the snap. Throws Kelsey caught against the five plus one tackle takes another the thunder with him down to the two. Ten more yards there and Travis Kelsey has back to back. Big catches Sean Davis with a touchdown saving tackle Steelers. Brought fresher. And nobody was able to account for Travis Kelsey that boss slightly thrown back inside. But his hands. He has easily turns around grabs a pass and almost gets into the end zone. Officially second in one at the three they bring the big nose tackle hydrate back in on the Steelers side. The I formation Mahomes. Takes the snap. Play fake rules right now throws zone. It is caught touchdown to Marcus Robinson in the back of the endzone able to get hold on..
