What's up steve. good Yeah we got some more news to talk about. yeah helpful. You know a little bit more than me. 'cause i don't know a tons speculate a bunch here you had dean wilson's wedding on the weekends so you weren't exactly in a sherlock holmes wrote this weekend trying to fit figure stuff out so no not at all. I was I was not in that mode even close it was. It was hard to get in the mode to record this podcast today. Hey listen people were really digging these things because you know that because we're getting hit up when things happened in the sport people hit us up whereas the rent reaction pod so it's really cool thanks people for for like he needs and asking for them by name. So that's cool. That i appreciate that i love that people are starting to ask for it by name and call it. The rental reaction pod people are on it and asking us to do it so yeah. I'm with the idea that people are reaching out asking for it before we get too far into stuff. I've got a question on twitter. I know the answer to this. But maybe when you're old dealings pro taper or your new dealings now rent all you can fill us in a little bit more. I got a question. Do the riders get royalties from the bar bands. That they're named after the read henry button and windham and band and all of this and i know they don't but what goes into that and how who decides that and how does it work and all of that stuff when you decide to name a writer and has been yeah So i think. The trend of doing that in handlebars started way before i was ever round obviously I was probably just racing out so young but I i don't recall or know if those writers got royalties back then i would. I would assume no and i would probably say ninety five percent correct in that they probably did not And then today today. I think it's fallen a bit more by the wayside have so many different benz these days and riders. Come and go. And i think you know if you have a a henry bend or something you really dating the product by having a name know long come and gone through the sports so you know at rent all where at least kind of moving towards the m w and mercedes with their cars were giving everything at number but yeah a lot of people. Identify their handlebar by the name And we're trying to do that by numbers. Obviously which. I think we're doing decent at it but yeah I think you know now nowadays. It's a little different. I some brands pay a certain ambassadors royalties or whatnot. But i don't know that just a regular barbed unnamed. No one's getting royalties on that infamous. The guys are pro. Taper henry ben forever and then chad liked it and send. It became the henry. Reed bend so at some point. Chad's going to be in the room ramirez. So do you add a third writer to the list. Starts being complicated. When you start doing the officer. And i i think it's also just a little. It's flattering for the rider to have a ban. That's named after him. So i think they're usually pretty stoked on it And it's one of those things for the. I think the handlebar company where they don't feel that that name is is really making a huge sales difference So oftentimes it's just that a handlebar was created for a unique rider and then other writer started asking for it and became more popular. Now it finds itself action. Took jimmy button. Bend all right. Let's get into this so yeah. Jr i think they started in two thousand seven. They folded up their shop. The suzuki they're supportive last few years. They've They've run the program under there when they started and man. I i am bomb. We lost geico. And that's that's one thing for sure. And i don't know why paul but this. Jr thing hits me a little harder as far as like man that sucked because this team should have been could have been great now. They had some success as they had race wins. There's no doubt about it but a little bit of a unwilling partner in suzuki. The last few years from what i hear suzuki was funding their program obviously with bikes and parts and support. It was the only official suzuki factory team but they also were giving them. I heard in the range of one point three million dollars a year to run their program this year. They offer three hundred thousand dollars and owner core. Gibbs over there was simply you know. Flabbergasted tried to negotiate. Suzuki wouldn't come up and he you know he. He told me he actually called me after insulting me about having no listeners and nobody cares what i think and then after yelling at me about the election and after also insulting again for a while he got we. We had a pretty good talk which is of course nature right and those fingers. He didn't give me those figures. I heard it from a source over. There are not from koi but boy confirmed all that and was like look. I can't continue to be dumb. I will put my own money into this thing. you know. he's very busy in the nascar side and he wants to go racing. He loves dirt bike racing even though he's been away from it a little bit But he just can't simply make up that deficit from suzuki so Yeah this is more on sukey to me than j. g. r. j. was willing to go around with a quote unquote subpar lineup and go racing and representatives. Yuki the best they can but when when he comes in with an offer like that you know. Coy can't can't help. But do that sell you. Dealt with coy Paul over at your old gig as well. So engineer. Jeremy all of course so yeah. That's that's kind of what i got from this thing. It's awful for sure right when they first burst onto the scene J. jerry was just like a perfect mattress. This nascar team. They're going to build their shop out of the nascar shop. Have assets all these you know machinery and team and staff and assets and And they yeah. They're they're legit factory team as soon as they showed up right in. Its we've heard rumblings of difficulties through the last few years now right so I would imagine coys. Patients have have just run thin. And i think with everything that has come and twenty twenty Oftentimes i shrug my shoulders a little bit when everyone's like oh. It's great. cove is great for power sports. Everyone's killing it. And yes. That is true to an extent but it's also very untrue to an extent and i have to believe. Kobe had a huge huge amount of A huge effect on on suzuki's offer jr this year. I mean you have to explain something. Something has to explain why they drastically offered less money. Yeah yeah yeah. So i mean that's just and that's that's you're already kind of going racing with a dated product suzuki. That's i'm not trying to say anything bad but that's accurate And now when you don't get all that financial support shirt poised putting his own money into it for a bit. I think everybody knows that. But you don't want you can't fund. The entire thing is just way too expensive. And and now we're here mid-november and you have to you have to make that decision as soon as you can see you can allow your staff the best scituate and they can to try to try to go find new employment somewhere so already laying really yeah. It's it's already late for that for sure. So he's gonna go. racing with. Hap was some level of support. And i questioned the future of that program as far as being on suzuki's right you have to think that whatever level they're at will be reduced in the coming years. Yeah i mean. The only thing i can think of is think positively about as i would think maybe half now has gotten a level support that's greater than than they've had in the past. Now there is not as much support sprinkler around instead of having two teams or jj had a two fifty four fifty and then have a team now. It's just so you would think that have got some of jj support in the last week or at least negotiating for it. I would hope Which can make them. More of a solid author. And hopefully suzuki still sees the need to market and Market there you know there. Rmc models and go racing still right so that's going to be on shoulders now which they have a good lineup over there. And we wish them the best but but it's still just it's sad to secede jr go especially a lot of those guys that moved their lives across the country to live in north carolina. We're agr and yet just it didn't work out you know. When they downsized a couple of years ago they offered a few more than a few guys jobs in the cup shop. And i know some of them took advantage of that glenn is is over there working away and so i wonder if the guys now will be. Coy is a really good. Oh by the also blamed. Fill for the program. Shutting down because phil shutdown. It feels canadian team shut and so he was thinking that phil had some with everything shutting down so that like just being associated. He's walked in that shot before. Yeah i gotta think core is a good guy. I think he's he'll try to do the right thing. And get these guys jobs Some of the accepted some of them. Won't you know. And maybe he comes back. He didn't when i talked to him. He didn't rule out coming back when i spoke to last week. He told me ninety percents done. You know and i was like i was fuck. I was like just trying to hold out for that extra ten percent. You know but it didn't sound good. And he just said. I'm i can't keep being an idiot for this long. And let's face it with his brothers passing away. He is full-time cup guy. Now you know what i mean. That's that's the family jewel. That's the family business. So it's really unfortunate for the sport. And when i think about that and i think about the geiko team It's not good. I'm not gonna you know put the doomsday hat on and start yelling screaming about sport because viably. It's it's economically. It's very viable right. When you pre covid times you get a lot of people in no stadium's on a saturday night. You have ten thousand plus at these nationals. So there is a sport there that has interested as a tv contract. And all of that. So i'm not gonna put doomsday hats on for the sport But man that is a blow to riders mechanics for for those two teams. Yes it's hard man and and we lost to teams as you're obviously in twenty twenty has been dumpster fire right and and it has affected our sport. I i don't know we haven't talked about this ourselves. But do you think covert had anything to do with geico's leaving the sport. I do think that yet. Our contract was up this year. And i think all corporations are playing it safe right. Yeah got to look at their books. I know somebody from that team told me if it wasn't covid. They didn't think that geico would pull their deal. The contract was up this year now. They don't know that but that's just their thinking. Yeah and so so. We're in agreement. Then yeah i think i think absolutely covert had something to do with that deal I heard there was a new marketing person up at geico but still still the effects that the economy has taken has had some sort of a tolan. I agree with what what you're you to said they said is yeah is i. Don't think it would have happened if we didn't have a pandemic. But yeah i mean you know the one thing that was scary for jr. for me. And i have ranted and raved across my shows about this was they can get in the meeting. They can get in the door of any fortune. Five hundred company out there with their program their cup shop program and everything else and they could not get a title guy for their for their team for the remote across team. They couldn't really get anybody and in the last few years that's hurt obviously koi. There's a casino that was on board but was more of a business partnership from the way told me so. It wasn't a full title sponsor of the race team only It was tied into a bunch of other business interests. Now they could have done that but as economic. It just didn't work for coy but man. It's scary when david evans and jay bone and koi can't get bring in somebody from outside the industry for sponsoring that team because they have such an advantage and that that last few years that should be the warning a little bit about the about sports. Yeah that's a great point and that was one of the most exciting things about. Jd is when they when they first burst onto the scene. I mean they showed up with toyota and for all those reasons you just said you would have thought that oh man it's gonna be really easy for them or or if anybody has the ability to get an outside outside the sports sponsor to help fund their team these guys to do it and continued to not be able to pull that together and not do that and Yeah i mean we just teams come and go in our sport we. It's it's it's a sad reality right there. They'll be more teams. Hopefully they'll stick around and um but yeah. We lost two really big big ones this year and they were cool man. They were cool to have her in our sport. They were awesome to be around. You dealt with them. Obviously that pro taper you dealt with jerry. Jeremy coy and They're pits were always a cool place. You know they they. They looked at things outside the box. A little bit you know. They argue with yamaha over things. Then they switched to suzuki. You know a little bit of frustration with that because the kind of looked at the sport a little bit okay. You guys are all in his box. You've been doing it for so long but we think we can do this way and they did some really cool things and it just mana could use them in a sport you know. It gave our instant credibility. Yeah and i mean their idea to have the entire race shop the entire team the gym the facility. Everything they are north carolina's kind of model. That's very similar to what katy i'm at. Husky are doing all baker and j bone and koya. Jj our guys were kind of that was their idea it. Just it just didn't work. It didn't stick for them. And i don't know if that's just the personalities or the athlete you know Athlete personnel time or the location. Or what have you but I mean they're thinking was correct the to do that. It just didn't work out. They made their own shock for the while. They're running their own shock. You know yeah like all kinds of cool stuff. I mean when bubba was there they were sending out radiators making their plastic and doing all kinds of really cool. Their bikes were always as the mechanic side of me. When i was at mechanic they were you. Their bikes are always interesting. To look at because again they could. They made some really cool things. I thought their adjustable linkage that they kind of created was very cool. That's been that right. Yeah they just Adjustable subprime they made them now. It's pretty cool to always made really cool stuff. They really did a good job with that. And and when. I think about them over the years. I think like look the. I've talked to jeremy little bit here and there. They they tried to do the right things right. The you just brought up the everybody in north carolina. Everybody training with their with their trainer. And everybody going together like like a football team. Which is what coy gibbs. Background is right with joe and it didn't work but they tried it and then so that didn't work and adjust their their thinking to that and then They want it to take big swings and and by champions right they they bought stu and it didn't work out a little bit of the new yamaha fault a little. Bit of james's fault They they swung with barsha. Didn't work out. And then they switches. Zouqi and at that bike wasn't quite where it needed to be in. Barsha was frustrated and then they go back and they look got this western pike kid. They literally mold the student to a podium guy at times which is phenomenal when you remember pike and the else cues with the rock river tame which you and i do remember those days and they took pike due to lot of hard work with western on his own and then the team. He frigging podium. Supercross podium outdoors phenomenal right. And then he goes and gets seriously hurt ends his career in paris and he was going to be the number one guy that next year and when i so when i think of jay jars legacy i think of what could have been more than what was paul. You know what i mean like. That's sort of what i think about. It's like they. Were the road runner the coyote and they looked to have the roadrunner and the the en villages fell on them over and over but not for lack of trying or spending money or or reshaping things or being open minded or anything else. It was just unfortunate circumstances that they didn't have more success than than what they really did. Yeah honestly is just. It's a it was a lot of bad luck. And i've i again i've worked with those guys a little bit as a as a sponsor as a brand they're always a pleasure to work with they're always very or how was it to work with them. They were there mellow they're easy. I mean In jason was always community Communicate he would return calls he would he would say in you know he would do what he said he was gonna do right. Oftentimes asking too much but Yeah i mean they were always great to deal with and and you know we've we've talked to many writers have been through the program and there's never really you know nobody ever really knows what exactly it is that you know why they couldn't get to that championship level But yeah i mean. There's good people over there. Good smart people dean a friend of mine. He's a very very smart guy. You've been there since the beginning And yeah honestly. I just threw whenever these things happen. I feel for the staff because i kind of you know. We've both been their rights. And i was scarily there. One time when i decided to leave pro circuit to try to go to jeff ward racing with with dean and i kind of saw smell something. Maybe it was going to happen. And i got i got scared and i failed because again. I didn't want turn into december one when it when it went belly up and then by that time. There's no job available after right into of you have to. That's why i think you know it's it's tough for the staff there. They just found out november. It doesn't leave a lot of time to try to find these five. If you wanna stay in supercross no not at all. And like i said. I hope you know coy will find some of these guys jobs in the cup shop. And maybe he comes back. He didn't rule it out. I asked him to come on the show on monday. The pulp amax show. Depends on when you're listening to this. And he said he couldn't do it. He's still super bitter Also to hey another thought about all those things they did and all the stuff that they innovated and they also signed filled nicoletti as just fill-in just. Hey we're gonna pay you. You're going to practice. You're going to train and if we have an injury you're coming in and fill actually working beautifully. Phil raced more races. I think the each of those years where he was a film in that then when he was anywhere near supposed to. And i was j are doing that you know. Yeah that was another innovative move. You're right that that that They deserved credit for pioneering for sure that was a cool move which i think some other teams have somewhat adopted it since then Everybody has a test guy. These days but But yeah it was just cool that there was also somebody that was ready on the bench to fill in at a at a moment's notice and that was something that's that's to me is really showing respect to their sponsors to right. They all have obligations in their contract and they just wanted to be sure that. Hey like we're going to have to bikes on the track no matter what every single time so if one guy gets hurt this weekend we got a guy ready for the next weekend which was cool and then you know of course. They ran suzuki's to fifty program for a couple years there with two trucks. And i did that for a little bit. So yeah what tough yeah. It wasn't for lack of toronto. That yeah yeah from wanting to to is a big ordeal. But it'll be interesting. So you put this on suzuki's fault you you know. They didn't have a title sponsor for a long time and they still racing. I really like i said from what i hear suzuki low ball their offer. So that leads me to believe like. Hey listen we just got gas gas But but they didn't really add team right they. They just put red plastics on. Tlc team. but we're we're. We're losing an oem here at some point. I mean helps their like you said but it's not a good thing. What's his yuki. This so you know. Yeah yeah and again. I think that circles back to to the effect cova hat on the on the sport in sales and i don't think he is has done very well because of it. I'm quite positive actually And and yeah. I think there you've seen their their support decrease in other segments of racing street bikes and whatnot. I believe like the mirror shop at at suzuki or a. I'm sorry. This is yuki shops at your mirror. I believe that's all gone. I've heard rumors of a really high up guy at suzuka it's been there forever was recently. Told he'll be let go down. Pat pat is pat. Longer there right. Yup okay. I wasn't positive i heard no. Yeah he source but Never verified but yeah like so when you let a guy like that go man. it's Just they gotta be going through some stuff over there. Well i mean yeah r.i.p. jr. Let's hope they come back coit and shut the door on that. He loves the sport. man. I mean look. He wasn't even. He was barely at any races the last few years because of his work on the nascar side and he kept this thing going and he told me i could only you know be dumb for so long or something he said. I'm going to be stupid for so long. You know what i mean. So we need more people like that and and it was really cool for them for them to be in the sport for all those reasons we just said how he hasn't yet totally said he's over it. Which which i think is awesome. Because you know. I think that shop will sit there. It'll probably just become a storage unit for a little bit. And maybe if the sport gets a little more healthy and he can find good support. I know all the industry sponsors that were all over their truck would would jump right back in if jay bone called them and said. Hey we're going to fire things backup. Took a two year break but but we think we can do it again or you know. It's just a better time to do it. and i can see that happening in and again because they've always been a pleasure to deal with in the industry. Sponsors are always there to support their level of support is always a bit low because again all those people making those marketing decisions are in the sport. Earning power sports know that know that You have to kind of curb your spending to make sure that you're here year after year after year. You can't just sponsor everybody in the pits for whatever they ask for right. That's just not how it works but But yeah hopefully they can come back. That'd be cool. Rent dot com rental reaction on the gr. Amax team going away Please check them out. Hashtag rental hashtag. We built championship. Hashtag grab life by the bars Just look at their championships over the years With folks at rental and they did it again and then makes gp this year. Of course all right next up bullfrog spas team. I had heard that justin hill's brother. Josh had been telling people the last couple of weeks. Justin wasn't going to raise for them. He wasn't going to be there. We had tony lessee on the show last monday night. I specifically said so all good with hill or something like that. And tony said yep yep. The team will be hill. Mcelrath and benny boss. And i'm like okay. Well moving on. But i've heard behind the scenes that there were rumblings. Now it just came out last week. Tickle is in justin hill is out hill had a good year last year for the team not for the salt lake grounds but up until the salt lake around. He was very very good and human. Mookie were really surprising. They're both gone from that team. Now and from what. I reached out to some people involved and from what i gather. He'll just did not sign this contract. He said here's a contract. He said okay. I'll sign it a sign it. He never signed it. They said what what's the matter. He's like well. I just signed it yet. They said okay. Can we make some changes. And he said no or didn't do it or whatever and then eventually it got tired. The team got mike. Genova got tired of that and said if you don't bring the contract to the track this one day you were off the team and he showed up at the track with no contract and was sent home. That is that is kind of what i gather. I obviously paul just something going on in the works. I heard he already has a geared deal with o.'neil so he's got something that he's going drop soon about what he's doing but a weird situation for sure but but brock tickle your buddy tickle. He benefited benefits from this. Yeah pretty odd. And i think it happened you know. At least at least at least brookside. I know happened very quickly And brock was kinda in the mix when they were entertaining. Shane and savant cheeky They obviously ended up going with mcelrath. But yeah i. I have no no more news or info than you. Do you have everything that i've heard is. Yeah he just didn't sign it And it's kinda again in a very very weird year. Where seats are limited. Like they're less and less seats. It's unfortunately the two guys that have had kind of you know. People have said some things about them and working with them or maybe their personalities or other attitudes or what. but there's two guys basically against avakian hilbert that weren't able to find the seat so you gotta think it's boiling down to it's like hey like we need. You know you need us more than we need you is. I think a lot of the attitude of the teams are taking. Because that's that's true that's true. Yeah yeah because apparently he had a contract also and just didn't sign. It just chose to. I don't want to do your team interesting. Heard i don't what was ticked gonna do Tickle was working on a tribal tier effort with chile's a certain bike They were getting bikes and parts. I don't i don't even respect the kyle and chipper conscious of. I won't speak anymore. I don't know what he's working on but I believe yea brock was going to do something with him and maybe now plan has changed because broccoli on mtr but but But yeah we have stoked abruptly about quite a bit and he always kind of gathers my opinion when it comes to things like this for his career what have you just. We're friends right and and I think it's a good move for him. I think it's a great place where he can extend his career and the exciting thing is is. I think tony lesc- is the perfect guy. In the an mpr program is the perfect situation to to fix the things that brock needs to improve on. And that's getting starts and being more aggressive faster the first lap. Those bikes are always at the front. They always get starts. They always lead laps in heat races in events. So if anybody can get brought to do that. I think it's tony less than mci which is pretty cool. Yeah yeah absolutely what. He'll has to have something going on right. I mean we don't know. I guess yes i who knows. I don't know him good enough at all to know like you know i it. Is his heart still set on racing every year. Does he want to transition do something different. I have no idea so you have to just kinda speculate. That if he maybe his plan isn't to be on such a structured supercross only deal and he wants some more freedom to do something else. I have no idea. Couldn't tell you. Yeah it's got to be frustrating. If you're a fan of justin hill to be like what are you doing. 'cause look Is the team perfect. No they paid low salary. You gotta earn your money but if you do well you do earn it. It's an from people that work there you know. They don't have a ton of rental cars. They don't stay in awesome hotels. They don't flight stuff isn't great right like all that kind of deal but but they get you to the races and they give you a bike that that you can do well on and they pay you if you do well right. So right yeah. It's not it's not factory honda. You know what i mean. But i don't understand. It's another positive decision by justin hill. I guess we'll see what he's got going on. But do you feel like there's enough time for tick to to get up to speed and everything on a honda and all that. I mean i think so. I think that's part of it right. Like we're already mid-november. Luckily we ain't going racing until january mid january sixteenth. Okay so you get a bit more time And you always have to work through thanksgiving and christmas and new year's and they'll do that and i mean that's a cool part about about tony and mc ours. Those guys workman like i get texts from tony late at night. Emails back late at night early in the morning he always picks up his phone. The guys passionate and he works hard. And i think You know or actually. I should say i know that. That makes a difference in the sport when you have that much love and passion for it and you dot every i and cross every t every single time the results do come eventually so Yes so far. Brock seems pretty comfortable on the bike. Again he's writing the twenty twenty along with mcelrath and blas which is very much developed. And and vince will be developing the twenty one. And i think it's a great plan because it again because it's all new bike and because of covid it is difficult to get parts for the twenty one so they just have abandoned it and they said we'll raise twenties and i think brock has been very very impressed with the especially with the engine so far. I don't like that plan. I just. I don't like it. i think it's silly. But i talked to. I talked to tony about it at the track. One day. his reasons are is is they. just don't have the the shocks new. There is very team hondas. They have parts. You know what. I mean like parts out there. You know what i mean like. I don't understand that tony. Twenty of the same stuff on our show. But that's a better bike. I mean you know. Obviously you re map and you springer. I wrote the production by weren't impressed but what they're racing is one hundred percent different. It's a better bike. Like i i. Just i don't understand this. No parts thing like a dealer is not going to be able to see you break a clutch lever and you buy one of these. You can't race like what do you mean. There's no parts. Like i get what they're saying to me. I racing on the better bike. That's all well. We'd have to. But i think from those guys side is they don't they're not fully sold at. The bike is better yet. like it takes time. I think to get it setup supercross and make sure it is correct so right. They have a bike that they're probably going to get more support onto race because honda is moving to the new model so a lot of those that were models. Pacific will now go. Jj will go to mtr if honda if a honda factory say. Hey here's the transmission or here's this or that you know what i mean. Then i get it. I one hundred percent get it. Here's a here's a cam. I mean that we worked on then then yes by all means do that but i never heard that part of it But other than that. So i don't know paul i. I can't get on board with that to be honest. But yeah i mean i'm on board with you know because he again. The clutch is totally different. And had a retro the retro clutch to get to work in this new twenty-one bike and again i think it's it we didn't do any research right so if you go to like if you go to a honda shop can you order parts for the twenty twenty one. I don't i don't have to you. Yeah is that there's a there's a inventory problem in the in all of power sports right now. So i i am not yeah. I can't. I can't fully agree with you is that you can go down and buy a for. Maybe maybe just parts aren't available when okay well honda and all these assemblies to shut down. I think it really affected a lot of then things then. Okay if you have a twenty twenty one and you can't get a clutch plate or clutch basket. Then i'm ingredient. But i can't see how that's possible but anyway we'll see anyways so i don't know if i'm totally on that plan on haunted kicking down some cool stuff and then yes i am down with that plan because you and i know what what what transmission could show can make a difference. What a what a clutch gratiot. All that kind of stuff. So i'm more interested to know like why so many writers and likes on him cr and and talked to go outdoors like the big team right. Four four fifty guys. Yeah from what. I've been told the outdoors are like. Hey we're gonna go to them and if our guys are crushing it will keep going. She kind of our guys aren't crushing it. We won't go you know so. That's kind of what i've been told. That's their plan right. Give guys a shot because they all want to do. Outdoors kicked us. You know so anyways. We'll see what happens. But a very puzzling decision by justin hill cleared. We'll see we'll see what happens. But but ticks got a good bike and a good team and a good spot. Yeah like you said that's a. That's a strong team boss. Mcelrath freeze and tickle like. That's that's up five to twelve five thirteen place guys. You know maybe fifty fifteenth but five fifty. That's that's still four four honda's in the main event every weekend which i think all those guys are capable and expected to be in the main event. Every weekend i agree. I mean yeah. It's a strong team and i you know. Tony has so much experience through what he learned through his sons. Obviously in racing that I think it's awesome that there's a good safe place for other writers to go because you know how it goes once you've trickled down from the battery level You start using less reliable parts and you have more inexperienced mechanics and it just. It's it gets more dangerous. I think on the lower level teams. Where tony's team is is is knowledgeable. Safe you know. I think they. Yeah they're tony obviously puts himself out there on the track. He doesn't want his guys getting hurt. Because of some stupid mechanical so It's a good place for those guys to go to be a program they can trust in. Ray supergrass yup all right anything else on any of these situations to become good enough. I think that's all of it all right. Pj gr that sucks. I don't know why pair venus i feel different about the jr. Think part of the geico thing like they're both terrible because they gave you coffee every weekend so good point i got from geico geico to you know what i did spend. Yeah oh way. More time at the banter right it was it was. They were always a fun truck to go and talk to a unique personality. Jason is always very candidate Always shop you know. Shoot you straight and it was just a fun truck to go visit by. Everybody was was cool over there. You know one time Koi through a water bottle at bounced off my head. And then while i was interviewing rider and i wrote a letter to jr hr. I got the email from somebody there. And i wrote an email to jay. Gr hr complaining about my treatment. From mr gibbs totally dead serious. Like i'm a. I'm a world renowned journalist and i've been. I've been humiliated and disgrace by mister gibbs. You know what i mean. And this and that. And calculate i wrote down all the all the insults he called me. You know what. I mean this. And i said and coin lobbed at coit laughed and i said well did it. Really get you in trouble. He's like no. That's my secretary. She's not going to do nothing. Family run company corporate. Hr department didn't really care that has been harassing a world renowned journalists under so we will miss them. hopefully they come back and Shitty by by everything. Bytemarks Caf: Preparing for Online Learning
"It's July, Fifteen, twenty, twenty and welcome to the new reality addition of Bite, marks cafe where we serve you the first spite of today's science, Technology and innovation I'm Bert Lum I stop. We're going to have Alec Wagner and he's here to tell us about the Purple Prize and the key Puka. Innovation competition, and then we'll be joined by Senate president, Ron Cocchi and delete complex area superintendent on Koa. White Paul Zena, and we're going to be talking about the. Education technology pilot of course now. I want to welcome Alec Wagner by phone over. Probably all the way over in downtown, Honolulu or somewhere? And we'll talk about the purple prize and of course. He's here to tell us about Deke Buca innovation competition welcome to the show. Alec Thanks for having me again Bert. Yeah you know so this new reality you know everybody's calling in and I I'm I'm kind of. Glad that you know, you can call it from Honolulu, but now I can have neighbor island. Folks call in as well as mainland folks so I think it's GonNa. Cool, so tell me about this key. Innovation. Competition Yeah sure No, yeah I mean you're totally right. It does the situation does improve some things? Indefinitely stifles a lot of others, but the key the. Hookah is a prize competition for innovative middle schoolers, highschoolers, creating ideas that apply technology in a place based way to solving local challenges, and what I mean by place, as is that ideas are either ones that are rooted in local culture or uniquely designed to are specific local context, and I get to provide an example of one of these it might be an ECOMMERCE marketplace that sells. Locally sourced products made by local cultural practitioners This idea already been done as you know, you had them on your show Malcolm, marketplace. And the Purple Prize last year but you can take this model, and you can innovate upon it and you know kind of an example of what we what we want to cultivate and really the reason why we wanted to put this together now is because we really need innovative approaches to fill gaps and solve emerging problems in our state that are amplified by Kobe and and because the number of four thinking local organizations have responded to this need. have been helping students to develop some of these approaches in the last few months. We really felt that we could amplify their efforts as foundation and empower. The young leaders creating these ventures to take their ideas to the next level That's really you know the reason why. We got involved in this and. So so when you say us, I'm familiar with your Purple Prize which is is kind of open to. Many in the community, and it's going to geared toward probably more adults in and maybe recent graduates. College level for this one it's it's you said Middle School. And then you're referring to another partner sponsor. That's involved with useful. Who you partnering with. Yep we're partnered with Maui. Economic Development Board Them Works Program and yes, it's targeting middle students up. Okay, okay, so yeah I'm familiar with the stem works folks, so it's. A partnership with them and in. Are you reaching out to students across the entire state? Yes! That's one of the advantages of being able to provide a virtual program now so It were able to reach folks from across the state. Great and What kind of let's see how you sort of fog giving them the chance to frame whatever they're proposing, and then an Wednesday proposed something. How do you go about the program? In terms of you know nurturing it evaluating it and seeing what comes out. Comes out the other end of that process. great question Yeah, we. We know that a lot of other organizations have have put together incubation programs over the last few months. to name a few like Knowledge High Academy Education Incubator White Green Growth. They've they've done that work already. And so these these students they have great ideas what we're really trying to do is just Bring those ideas in through proposals, and you can submit those proposals on the website. And then after that over the course of a week, we, we help to put together. recorded pitch. recorded pitches, and then you submit those pitches for final review by judging board a chance to win a portion of two thousand dollars. Okay I. Get it so so this is kind of A. You know it's sort of a mentoring process as opposed to Purple Prize, which is really gonNA getting getting teams to ultimately come come to the end result of maybe getting a startup, maybe from the start up, get get some investment and start to actually pull a company again. This is really kind of mentoring student teams. Yeah, it's it's connecting them with resources that they may not have available right now, and it's helping them to get to the next step, and so you can see this kind of bridge a lot of them will need a little bit. Bit of money in order to get some of these things going into incentivize them and get them excited to push things forward, and so we're looking to do that, but we're also looking to link them up with some of the mentors and resource providers, and our we and helped them to get connected with those people, so they can receive some of those advantages on their way to a program like the purple is or any of the other incubators accelerators around the state Oh. That's great, so the application processes. Is it still open? Yes, it's it's live now. and you can find the application Purple Prize Dot Com. Slash Kuka keep. Hookah Spelled K. I. P. U. K. A.. Okay and I'll put that up on. Our show notes for later on, and then so the advocation processes still open it actually what close is. And then there's a there's a time line right I mean. It ends on the August thirty first. Yeah I believe so sounds good. Okay, so I will put that up on. Our show notes again. Thanks Alex for joining us. Thanks Lauper, and of course we'll take a short break. And when we return, we'll be joined by Senate. President Ron Cocchi and complex area Superintendent Paul Zena and we'll talk about the education technology plight pilot. This is bite marks cafe. Support for Bite. Marks cafe comes from the HP our local talk. Show Fund, which helps Hawaii public radio sustain and grow its locally produced. Talk Shows Mahalo to contribute contributor, Hawaii naturopathic retreat center. Welcome back to bite marks cafe. I am happy to walk Senate president. Ron COACHEE and doe complex. Area Superintendent Paul Zena from Koei and we'll talk about the cohee education technology pilot workum to bite cafe guys. Thank you very much. Okay so let's let's start with you. Know the the whole idea of this technology education pilot. And where did this idea come from? What was the genesis of this idea and maybe? Ron I'll give you a chance to to tell me word. When did you get into this idea of of contributing or or maybe pulling this together? Well we had a group that met on communicating over the big package of four bills. Universal PRE-K. You know the living wage affordable housing. And how do we improve school, Infrastructure and When covid nineteen here we felt that we wanted to continue meeting and because of the. Two bills relating to education, we had a few educators in the meeting and then one scolded nineteen. Accepted your initial invitation for Broadband Hooghly and started participating in that call, and it really became evident in this name to some of the connectivity issues, and what people were working on on the broadband, who he call and You know what was not happening in schools because none of us, we're prepared to do distance teaching all of our materials. Our technology was all based on really in school face to face teaching, learning, and then the ten Zuckerberg Foundation donated a million dollars through Hawaii Community Foundation for karate. And I realized we needed to get data to apply for. Grants and to be able to utilize money I talked to bill are cocky. Who Retired? At the end of last month Paul was the deputy and the superintendent in waiting. He's been on the job for about two weeks. Now but luckily is a technology guy. And in seven days he and bill got data from the seven principles, and we were able to put together a grant application and Mica Connie. From the Hawaii Community Foundation seeded it with one hundred thousand dollars we needed to. Raise another three hundred. To start minimally at four hundred ten convert came in with one fifty. Bank of Hawaii Foundation, a hundred everything foundation fifty thousand. I, the Wind Bank twenty five I, don't know. How much central Pacific Bank set but sent, but they had recently approved making a contribution as well, and then my wife Joy, and I personally donated fifteen thousand, so we have about five hundred thousand dollars, and they looked at three areas teaching. Teachers were training them to be better distance teachers, and then they can become trainers in their individual schools. Getting connectivity, so we identified purchasing hotspots. And then getting the devices for the students who still did have a device no now Paul your complex area superintendent for the entire island. Right so when when you look at this pilot is the pilot helping to address connectivity issues with students across the entire island and will the the WIFI hotspots satisfy those that perhaps are currently connected. Yeah it. It is Kinda unique situation here on coli being. That it's one complex, and we are the whole island, so because of that it was through lots of great conversations in partnerships with various folks who are in the industry around telecommunications that made it really clear to us the products that we needed to use to actually. Supply that connectivity for students. And what we discovered was it wasn't just an issue for students per se. We realized that there were teachers that really depended on their connections through work at school that we're not necessarily getting the same kind of activity at home, so it was more than just providing to students. We realized that it was providing the whole system that we needed to have patch those those those poopers in the connectivity, so it was actually providing little Wi fi. We found that to be the best. Product and the best solution that made it more people. Track and it was something that we could mobilize an order very quickly And Senate president and you know when when looking at your entire sort of. District, which is of course. Know, there's going to be schools that are probably more connected versus others. In fact I remember you mentioning on on the Bravo and who he called it, I think it was COMPA that you know many of them were connected, so they opted to do sort of hard copy and I guess I'm curious. How you got an involved with you, know sort of encouraging. This may be blended approach where it can be a combination of face to face to face as well as. Learning, did you? Were you able to convince some of the? Folks that were a little bit maybe reluctant about going online to actually take the leap to go online. Well I think what we wound up eventually doing. We started with bill and fall the three state representatives from myself the second call. We added to educator or people involved in education here on a law who were? Me and Paul and bill brought on a few principles and then eventually each one of the fifteen principles participated. In different points on Zoom call was do. And so it's really a plan driven by the principles data dry that were secured by them. And, then again, really what they wanted to do, we weren't pushing anything from the top. Down what we found out that CAFA is, they had the. Devices locked so that if you removed it off campus, it wouldn't work. So they had a lot of devices, and now they they knew what the future might look like. They were prepared to go forward and I would stress that this could not have been done without the support of. Both bill cocky and posing as the leaders, but all fifteen principles fully engaged fully supportive. and. We have Byron Cappelli. WHO's the technology person for the collide complex as well as Brett Mizutani? In the district office, and so it's been an incredible team effort. To get us to where we're going, and then the only thing we realize that some teachers are better. At the technology than others, and so if we engage in. Training people and assisting them then we will help them get more comfortable with with the technology, and I was also really motivated when I saw that all of the. California, state schools. We're going to be going to distance learning the fall and I was really worried. Not Knowing how? To reopen. What if it was? All distances, and how can we be sure that the students aren't were prepared? Now so Paul. Ron mentioned the. The training, and and getting up to speed as well as perhaps even families who may not have the hardware and the connection, so maybe tell me a little bit about what is is your thoughts on the whole digital literacy and providing the support and training I mean I I would imagine that is above, and beyond what you're currently providing, so you know, how do you? How do you ramp up to now support all of the folks that are going to potentially be online? That really is the you know sixty four million dollar question. On. That is really around the world I. Don't think It's really unique to anyone area at this point in time as the pandemic has made it very clear to all of us that the meat exists. For. this partnership has really helped us. Make it very clear in terms of how we're going to approach this. And the first thing and foremost in any type of distance learning model. We had to ramp up access I mean we can't teach in a new way when the students who are trying to reach can't access to learning and that just very loud and clear to us, so as we built the access pieces in that seemed to kind of be an easy piece I. Mean it was? We knew how many we needed was just a matter of going in procuring them. And, then as we started getting into this more deeply, and realizing the subtle shifts in teaching and learning, that had to happen for the teachers, the training that Ron was referring to earlier. We've actually originally kicked that off two full days of training for our train. The trainer sessions where returning a few of our resource teachers at each of the individual schools and at the district office into trainers of the rest of their staff, so we'll be building the training model now that we want to impose for each of the. The schools and his Ron mentioned. The teachers are very different. Places so what remains the most difficult piece is taking all of these different forms and functions of teaching and learning, and applying them to individual schools with very different levels of capability. Some schools are ready to roll, and they need very little guidance and other other schools really were starting with distance learning one on one on. How do I just take what I've done really well in the classroom and make that now happen in a distance learning format. You know in Ron mentioned a couple of other things around this. Where this inserting oftentimes people think it's all about the tech, and it's not necessarily that way. It's really about how we engage. When we were doing learning that we can do face to face in real time with each other, whether that's through video or in person, and it's also about how we structure assignments and activities when we don't necessarily get to do that. Teaching and learning face to face in real time. And that's really the biggest challenge so and I know as the year continues, and we continue to do the professional development for teachers or staff, and even support programs for our families. That's GonNa be the biggest Hurdle I WANNA. Say biggest challenge is making sure that the learning that might not be happening like synchronised. We're together at the same time and we have to be apart from each other. That's going to be super super challenging. And there's lots of measures that we can use to determine whether we're going to be successful with that. Yeah, I do want to talk about some of the measures and also. Just the fact that. You know you're just one guy and I'm not sure if there's a whole staff of folks that can can be mobilized I. Guess to address the varying levels of of competency within the sort of the digital sphere. So I want to sort of get your thoughts on, do you? How do you scale this across all the various needs? That might be out there when a hold that thought though that just a T-, so we hold that thought we'll be right back after this. Short break to continue our conversation with Senate President Ron Cocchi and Complex Areas Superintendent Paul Zena and of course we're talking about connecting students to the Internet and the KOI education technology pilot. This is bite marks cafe. Support for Bite Marks cafe comes from the HP our local talk, Show Fund, which helps Hawaii public radio sustain and grow its locally produced. Talk Shows Mahalo to contributors. Shamanov University and Hastings and plead well a communication company. Welcome back. This is bite marks cafe. Bert Lemon if you're just joining us, so we're talking to Senate. President Iran Cocchi and Complex Area Superintendent Paul Zena about the KOI education technology pilot, and of course right before the break You know we're talking about how the technology is probably I. Think you've heard this before it probably the easy part right I. mean you know that you can get so many Wifi hotspots? You can get so many computers and you know it's all a numbers and a kind of a procurement officer Allen, but then the the real challenge is. How do you get the people that are now using? These tools to best use them. And of course in the varying degrees of of digital literacy that they may have whether it's. Parents, students and teachers as well and before I let Paul talk a little bit about that. Ron I mean what's what's your thought from a? From a sort of you know legislative standpoint I mean you kind of see the the varying varying ranges of of literacy that might be out there. How would you address help to address? This whole digital literacy arena. I think the most important thing. Is that training of teachers to be better teachers when they are better than the students get engaged. you know you have that love of what you're doing going on. And as other teachers who are not as verse get more comfortable than it just naturally will result in a better. Outcome, I will say something you had touched upon, and we talked about in the broadband who? Their are families that don't have devices. Don't have the connectivity to the Internet that are now going to have. The power of the Internet at their fingertips, going to really enhance them, so many of the jobs to they need to apply online so for those people who are out of work with everything happening. It's not just their children that are gonNA benefit, but we're. postals and telemedicine has really advanced so quickly. In this Covid, nineteen world, and so now it's GonNa. Give all of these families access to telemedicine. which was confirmed in conversations on the broadband? Who is so? The applications are so great. And the deal he intends to You know set up a health desk for each of the school districts, so that parents can call in and get assistance in You know how to better use the devices. They have how to help their students, so we're trying to create. Pathways to ensure that we can help. People be successful and not get frustrated and give up and again because he was from the bottom. Up Plan you have people who have ownership. People who have already bought in. This is what they've identified and that was critical. in what we did. We just said you know we can do the raising of the money, but you need to tell us where to invest it how to invest it in what to do. Yeah, that's that's. That's critical Paul So. You know the challenge that you face, and I think it'll get borne out in the in the pilot. given that there's a wide range of of Let's say expertise out there or at least literacy. How do you see tackling that? For the you know the entire island of why and how do you see perhaps leveraging what happens with other complex areas? Do you see the ability to to to kind of learn from your peers, and then apply it or are you guys? Sort of you know like isolated I. I would assume that there is a lot of sharing of best practices going on. Before you birth! You got that in reverse. People will be hopefully learning from us. Can I wanted you? Know? He wasn't sick randomly like we're saying that the top where a single school districts but that. It could be the easiest, and so conversations have already occurred with a complex area superintendents on the Big Island Maui analog who they're very interested, so we're hoping Zena is GonNa be stretching himself a real thin, explaining to everybody the great work. He's doing on coy. Paul you can't ask for a better endorsement than that. I. You know I really love to Echo. What senator coaches said that it really has been something that's grown from an internal sort of need, and you ask about scaling this up and how it might translate across more educational settings within the state you know. And there were there were a few other questions in there and and I I want touch on the I think what was a very. Big What you asked, excuse me. And you know you mentioned the the superintendent, Group or leadership group and the deal. We and we really do have a great great group of complex superintendents and assistant superintendents that assist us. And there was there was a great deal of guidance and a great deal of discussion Greenville Problem Solving. and with that help and the connections through Senator Coach in the legislative reps and everybody else on Koa along with the principals buying. I think it comes back down to what one key factor about scaling up really really relies on, and that's meeting people weather at everybody needs to see this. From a perspective of part of the project should speak to them specifically, and it should also encourage them to reach out to other members other stakeholders within the project. and. That's the most important part of scaling this up and again. ronn touched on it. It's not just providing tools to teachers that they can venues to improve. Students and families live in the home environment with distance learning, but it's also providing metrics that allow principals to be accountable to themselves and their school communities. All of these frameworks are being developed, and with those frameworks being developed that speaks to the folks that are in positions of leadership like myself in legislative representatives, Senator Coachee, other causes, other members of the. And if those frameworks that we're developing. which ultimately lead to increased student outcomes around things like you know advancement graduation better grades. The General Learner outcomes higher proficiencies all of our assessments. Whether they'd be the big ones at the end of the year or the formative ones that the teachers do day to day. All of those things are how we scale things up, and the whole process is to improve each tool for each stakeholder. So in the last minute or so I mean what are going to be some of your key kind of metrics that you want to start to kind of measure, and and will determine your success from this pilot. That's a really great question and I. It's so timely because at this stage in the pilot. That's exactly we're developing. we recognize that the number one metric that is adjusting in this model is the amount of time that spent both in school and out of school on task learning We have to measure very carefully and track it. And what we WANNA do is have a high quality of instruction happening both in the home during that time and in the school during that time, and those metrics really involved lots of different things, one piece that I think is reportable, and we'll become a very public peace for the a hole in the state will be the access to universal screeners is what we call them, and it's basically a test that's given periodically throughout the year to assess student learning in subjects, and that universal screener for all the schools on Kawhi will be reported. Reported out to our parents and other members who are watching the distance learning pilot through a series of different indicators that the schools will identify individually course because every school, a little bit unique different students different community, so that assessment should also reflect that uniqueness. Well, you know Paul we're going to definitely be keeping track of this and I will probably have you come back on, and maybe a report on some of those metrics as you start to gather data, and this is really exciting and I'm glad that you have a champion like. Senate President Ron Coochie behind you of course Ron. Coachie is the Senate president he's. In the Hawaii Senate and of course, Paul's Zena is the -CCOMPLISH Area Superintendent for Koi and I WANNA. GSMC Basketball Podcast Episode 370: Who Looks Good
"Get your ears wrapped around the golden state media concepts basketball podcast all the scoop need to know from college basketball to the NBA and even much madness. Zoos of your rising stars topics on and off the hard work. This is the golden state media concepts basketball podcast. You're listening to the GSM GMC basketball podcast. I'm your host, Casey. Forman, this podcast is brought to you by the GMC podcast network all right. Guys I have a lot of cool stuff to talk to you about today. Yes, if you missed my last podcast, the NBA is back only with scrimmage games, but yes, it is back. I want to start out by talking. About what teams and you know, some players you know in my opinion. That looked good so far in the NBA scrimmage games I also want to discuss players leaving the NBA's bubble in Orlando since that has happened you know not too too often, but you know somewhat often very recently also to discuss ESPN's list on the best players in Orlando's bubbles, the top ten players in the bubble on talk about their list. And then make sure you stick around for my very last segment because I want to discuss the NBA's all rookie teams and give guys my all rookie teams because last week. I gave you my all NBA team. So I thought I might as well give you you know. Follow it up with my Ba. Rookie team, so make sure you stick around to the end of the show if you want to hear about that. But like I said I want to start out by talking about the NBA Scrimmage Games because that's what's going on right now. On the NBA is back. Ev, you haven't had a chance to watch. Some of those games you can usually catch you know. There's one on every couple hours. I feel like on NBA TV, and then if you have NBA, League Pass I. Think you can watch most of the game, so there are multiple ways to watch the games They're going on. They've been going on for days now, not almost a half of a week. So I WANNA. Talk about Some teams that look good some players that also look good. We're talking about teams that look good, and you know wha- after the stoppage of play a team that we've. We've thought that would look good is a team that does look good. The Los Angeles Lakers okay I like I said there are team we thought would come out and play well. It's a veteran team led by Lebron, James One of the best veteran leaders in the league so The Lakers were definitely a team. We pretty much thought would come back and. and not necessarily miss a beat, but with the losses of Rajon Rondo Avery Bradley. We definitely thought that would have caused a slight bump in the road. for this team since those guys were you know somewhat large parts of the rotation, especially Bradley on the Defensive End and we saw it. He did against the clippers. This he's he's had multiple big games. We knew the effects the roles those two players had. That's why we thought. Maybe there would be like. I said a bump in the road when these two guys of dropped out of the lineup. But no, it doesn't quite seem that way Quinn Cook has played quite a bit in the in the row of Rondo. We thought that would be Caruso. He is expected to play a larger role but when he did come in play in the one game. He's played in so far against the magic he he played did not play too well. Only, played about ten minutes fouled out of the game. Actually so that kind of explains ten minutes fouls out of the game when people were kind of expecting him to play kind of larger minutes in that game. Since you know, it's been a while since he's played and he's expecting, expected to take such a larger a larger role in the lineup However, he fouls out. Putting coke is played. Quite a bit played pretty well nothing really to talk about, but his average play. But the Lakers have played very well. They lost to the Dallas Mavericks Pretty Much because Seth Curry didn't miss. A shot hit like six threes like eight or ten shots didn't miss a single shot so. In large part to do with you know the curry in you know staffs, brother, in a rightfully so getting name of his own won't always be known as staffs. Brothers simply known as seth maybe. Almost as good as show I'm not as good, but you know as far as the percentage from the field you know he second in the league this year but anyway that that's why the Lakers lost ad and Lebron only played the first half of scorching hot game from Seth Curry but either way any first half Lebron in a D, both got into double figures, both played very well. We saw Lebron. You know looking as fast and his fit as ever looking like he is, in fact, still the best player in the League today. I just in the small amount of play we saw from him. you know so they? They lost against the magic or the Mavericks won and beat the Orlando Magic in their next game. Lebron didn't quite shoot the ball. You know he didn't shoot very well. Six six of fifteen twenty points and seven rebounds, and not the best showing from the Bronx. He played more than just the first half in that game. Seeing the fifteen shots, twenty points and seven rebounds. Obviously, but you know. Didn't you shoot it very well and we hitting six of those shots We still saw the Lakers beating them. One of the highlights for that team. Dion waiters gets twelve points. Five for nine JR had some big shots plays very well off the bench. MMA, kouzmines shines, proves, or shows that what he is in fact capable of if the Lakers could get. A. Seventy five percent of what coups. Against the match if if they could get that every night, the Lakers. Could be very close who would feel a lot better about winning this year's Championship crews moved out there when ten thirteen twenty five point seven rebounds, a decent amount of three pointers as well like I said ten of thirteen so he went out there and shine play very well, and he was the largest part of the Lakers victory. need to see. See more of that from coups MMA cardwell pope seventeen points seven of eight from the field, so he went out there and played great You know they don't seem to be missing a beat. Despite the injury in the missing of Avery Bradley, so the Lakers, not missing a beat, a true veteran team We'll see how a D-. Anthony Davis his eye. Got Poked, but I feel like he'll be fine in a little bit of time hopefully at least I didn't see Sumiko. So that's the only issue for the Lakers right now say seem to be. Hitting on all measures, so props the Lakers. They are playing very well right now. Another team playing very well, the Bucks Yana Asante. Takubo, he, he came back and there two zero so far. He's proving why he is probably going to be this year's MVP and You know if if he keeps playing in this fashion, head could be rightfully so right He went out there and his first game. Twenty two points four assists got three steals in about twenty and a little bit less than twenty minutes. So, that's that's usual for you honest. Again in twenty minutes twenty two points, four assists three steals S. that's an impressive stat line for half of a game, not even so if we if we can see more of that to come from the honest. The bucks are going to be as scary team in that Eastern Conference. hack against the Kings. The Bucks scored eighty points in the first half eighty points in the first half against the Kings. Insane. Janas had fifteen points nine rebounds six assists. Kyle Korver went out and got twenty two point five threes. Brook Lopez went had twenty one points four threes. Team is capable of nuclear of nuclear showings like we just like I just said eighty points one half. Janas only played that one half Chris Middleton didn't have. Quite. A very good game, but nonetheless that was made up by by. Brook Lopez in cal covert both having over twenty points, and both having over four three pointers, or at least three pointers, so didn't necessarily matter Chris Middleton didn't play well. They go out there and beat the Kings but is this a sh-? A sign of what's to come for this team? You know it's going to be honest. Dominating and then a couple, other guys hopefully can step up but you know. Chris Middleton Max Contract Guy Guy who is said to be an all star star in this league. Not always showing up in big games he set himself hasn't haven't touched a basketball and multiple months. Kinda seems to be showing an away and He didn't play well. It's the bucks are going to go as far as honest can take them obviously either way bucks or to look pretty good to this point. Los Angeles Clippers. Okay, they are also a team that I would say is looking. Pretty good up to this point pretty good They could be playing better, but you know what. I'm seeing is what the clippers need to be seeing on the two zero right now lou. Williams went out there. He's in large part to do with their first victory. He get twenty something points off the bench twenty something minutes. With three or four three pointers Paul George. He's been playing very well as as well which is what you want to see if you're the Los Angeles Clippers, he has been the guy who has been in and out of the lineup, so as but he's been pretty much healthy police coming back in that shoulder surgery saying he's saying he feels better than he ever has which which which is awesome. which is great to hear from from a guy who has had shoulder surgery and who has been struggling, so that's great to hear that he's. He's feeling better than ever, and it's good to see him playing in limited minutes I. He's playing very well shooting very well from the floor so it's good to see that from Paul George in for that Clipper team. You know if they want to win the championship. They need Paul George to be the second best player every single night to at number one and. They need to see a consistent performance from him which has been the knock-on Paul George as of lately at least so if they can see that the clippers, you know they are going I see nothing but them clicking on all cylinders, same thing with Lou Williams coming off playing well. I'm going to talk about the whole Lou Williams thing in my next segment, so don't think I'm just avoiding that whole thing. It's not the. It's not the one hundred pound gorilla in the room or anything like that okay but like I said Paul George playing well. That's the key for the clippers. Co is going to go out there. He's going to be himself. It's the postseason we know. He saves himself for the postseason. these scrimmage games. I mean even less than the regular season means to him, and we know what the regular season means to him, so we know what he is in the post season. He's going to go out there and give twenty seven twenty eight points at night, six seven rebounds five. Five six assists. He's GonNa out and do that. He's going to do it on both ends of the floor, guarding hopefully guarding one of the best of the best opposing guards or four words so we know co is going to do but sadly they will be missing. I'll Lou Williams when they play the Lakers on July thirtieth on Thursday, which again super looking forward to listen to my podcast on Thursday because I'm going to be giving a preview of the Games later that night, so make sure you don't miss out on my podcast on Thursday when it comes out. But. The clippers are looking good there to anos. So far is going to be Coy Paul Georgia's looking good. I'm GonNa Talk About Louisville coming forward, but if he's going to be able, be beat to be there and playing. He's going to be a huge force off of the bench. One more team. I'm going to talk about the Oklahoma. City Thunder, also two and O two impressive victories might I add for the Oklahoma City Thunder? Okay, they went ahead and beat the Boston Celtics Jason. Tatum, Jalen Brown I think Kemba Walker I don't know of Kemba. Walker played. Think he's back. Marcus Smart Gordon. Hayward they're all? either way. Chris Paul Oklahoma City Thunder go out there and beat the Boston Celtics. Two Day, yesterday Wednesday. They went out. Earned went Sunday I'm sorry. I think I was thinking. Yesterday on Sunday. They Thursday podcast firm is for my Monday. PODCASTS so yesterday on on Sunday. they they played the seventy sixers, the thunder thunder versus the seventy sixers. They went ahead and beat the sixers. Yes, embiid did not play even though we've been hearing, embiid is in tip, top shape, and that you know he he. Is Feeling. Great is all ready for this post-season run. He is sitting because of a slight calf injury, but they feel an injury Maybe coming on, so he's going to sit in arrest. Necessarily, see that as top shape being ready. Maybe he's making sure he's in top shape by base feeling a little bit I don't know. Either way if you're in top shape, it's not necessarily good thing that you're missing an entire game, but it's embiid. But. I guess it's about the sixers right now. The thunder beat the Celtics in the seventy sixers both legit teams in the Eastern Conference proving that the thunder are in fact, a legit team in western conference, not necessarily a contending team, but it seems like in a similar boat of a Utah. Jazz where they can give team in the first round a run for their money and they're going to make a team. Go five six, possibly seven games. Games okay, will they? Will they win against these top level team? Necessarily you know in a series possibly know, but they have a chance to, and they're going to push teams so the thunder approving that they they are. You know they're not a team? You WanNa play necessarily in the first round of the thunder, going to know also a team. I want to mention a team playing very well. A couple of other teams I didn't quite make the list of explanations or you know. Me Talking about them, but other mentions for me. the PELICANS. Okay the New Orleans Pelicans looking pretty good haven't had their guy as. Quite yet. He just returned talk about that coming up, but They haven't had zion yet. They're playing pretty well they've won one. I think they've only played one game so far, but they've won that game. They've looked pretty good. The seventy sixers are looking pretty good Ben Simmons. He's playing very well. He's shooting the ball outside, so he showing you things you WANNA see. The sixers are playing well. The Dallas Mavericks with Luca Danni. He's. He's playing well the mavs. They are missing some key pieces. Their point, guard and their Dwight Powell. What's Your Point Guards Colin? Something Brunton Dot Com. Highschool something Brunton they're missing. The point guard the mavericks are, but either way the Mavericks, the Sixers, the Pelicans three teams that. Are playing very well so far as well as the teams. I mentioned before some teams real quick before I. Take a break that are not looking so good The Washington. Wizards I. Think it's GonNa be a tough eight seating games. If they made up I, don't think they're gonNA. Make the playoffs, so it's going. Be a tough seating game schedule for them the Brooklyn Nets missing a whole lot of their players. It's going to be a little tough for them as well. The Sacramento Kings I think it's GonNa be a tough go about for them as well as E. San Antonio Spurs so those are my teams that I think are going to be. Having it a little tougher, and then those are my picks as well like I said for my teams playing very well so far in Orlando. If you haven't had a chance to go, check out the Games third going on. Through today as well, so go check. Check them out or going on I. Think actually you know up until they start playing on Thursdays ago, going NBA. Chick Checkout NBA League Pass. If you haven't and go, watch one of the Games. It's fantastic to have basketball back. I'M GONNA go ahead and take. A quick break when I come back I WANNA talk about that Orlando bubble people going in and out of that bubble I'll be right back. Welcome back is like I, said before the break I wanNA talk about that NBA Orlando Bubble. Some players that have left the bubble in. You know that it seems to be. I don't want to say a reoccurring problem. That's what I don't want it to be okay. But. We have reports of multiple players that have left have come back in the bubble that they've been allowed to, but a discuss. This will be an issue going forward. Is it an issue? Give my opinion on it. But like I, said there's been reports of people going in and out of the bubble for her personally emergencies family emergencies, some people haven't comeback or simply so quarantining for covid but snow, either way or injuries, but either way people have gone in and out of the bubble. And I want to talk about some players in that have gone in and out in one in particular, the one hot topic in Lou, Williams. in in the Los Angeles Clippers because it seems to be a short handed. Somewhat Los Angeles Clipper team to name you guys some players missing from this clipper team. Visas Zoo bats. Months Razzle Herrell. Patrick Beverley Landry Shamet, and of course, the famous Lou will. Those guys, Zoo bots, Herrell, beverly shame Williams all those guys are all missing as of now from that clipper lineup so. That's a decent amount of guys for from your lineup to beat to be to be pulled out the all those guys. Off Five of those guys seem to have played I. Descend amount all year and I feel like that will make an issue or have an affect on this clipper team. How big of an effect I'm not sure because the the whole. Say. How we think of this clipper team how I think of this clipper team is death. That's the first thing I think is is depth and how deep this team is someone. You're talking about guys, not being there the one team that it won't necessarily hurt that much. Is The Los. Angeles Clippers okay. If the Lakers lost five guys that are that are key to their team and you know I think they would be done. They lose to and people are saying they can't win a championship, but the Lakers clippers right now are missing five guys, not for the entirety of the time at all. Just just as of right now I think if not all of these guys will probably be playing by the post season I think all of them will be playing but either way Zubaydah's herald beverly. Shammond Williams all guys not there right now due to personal emergencies or covid nineteen. So like I said the short handed clippers kind of right now. Another player Zion Williamson left. For some personal personal emergency, possibly related to cove in nineteen, he has officially returned to the bubble and is corn seating. At first, it was unsure if he if he would return for his first for the NBA's debut We know it was no accident that they had Zion being the first game back for the seating games, okay for the official return of the NBA. We know it's back right now for the scrimmage games. For the first. Official Game Back It's Zion in the Pelicans and they did that on purpose. Zairean playing eagles eyeballs watching their TV It's been officially reported that Zairean came back just in time to Korn teen long enough that he will be able to play in the first You know open first official game of the NBA's return. Zairean! We'll be back. Don't worry. We can watch him on Thursday at I think five thirty. Six, thirty, six thirty eastern time where I am probably about five thirty. So don't worry. Zion fans including myself I. was wearing there for just a minute I was like I I. Guess I won't be watching until the LAKER Clipper Game But Zion's there. I'll be watching. The PELICANS play at five six thirty. Hopefully you guys will as well so don't worry but back to back to my main point back to the topic at hand. People going in and out of the bubble we know the the clippers right now are shorthanded, allowed them. Those five guys aren't in the bubble or are quarantining because of Qu- covid nineteen. but I have no problem with players leaving leaving the bubble for personal family reasons for safe reasons or going to their their. Or you know they're going to their famous either family or something like that to deal with family issue I have no problem with that as long as the players like I said are being safe as long as as long as outside of the bubble as long as they're as long as they are being safe, acting safe doing nothing, not needed. Okay, only going and doing things that are necessary. Okay I have no problem with that. When when when you know what what I do kind of have a problem with is is when I think it's getting unsafe and potentially putting other players at risk. That's when I start having an issue in. Yes, let's talk about the the now. Infamous Lou Williams situation. Okay, so Lou Williams. He left the bubble for a personal. Emergency or a personal situation. While he was excused. Excused absence from the NBA. It was excused while he's gone. We see we see some social media. The rapper I forgot his name, but he's with. We see him with Lou will add A. Gentleman's Club as you will okay. Gentlemen's Club so Lou Wall. He's timeout away from the bubble went to spent a had a dinner at a Gentlemen's Club. Had with some with some friends obviously and. What happened at that club at that place where they're establishment but he went to. He went there before returning to that NBA bubble. I'm sure if he himself was the one to disclose it to the NBA but either way it was all over social media. The NBA found found out, and they had to investigate the situation so I don't think Lou was was upfront about his intentions about going to this place. But the NBA found out I don't think they're necessarily going to punish him because you can. Do you know it's freely? You can do whatever you please. You know you can do it. You can't tell a guy you can't go somewhere. Maybe maybe right now. They can't I duNno I duNno right now. As far as that goes, but as far as he His quarantining process goes, you know the the NBA knows where he went. will be Corentin for ten to fourteen days, and he will miss one. Maybe two of their eight seeding games because of his quarantine. It won't be an official Ban Or an official. Suspension. But he either way he's going to miss a couple of games because of his long gated pro quarantine, because he he did something that the NBA did not say was okay I don't think I is a tough situation, guys. This is a very tough situation there in the NBA bubble. I understand they've been away from their families from for weeks now. It's gotta get boring and lonely in there but I don't think he should have done that I. Don't think you should have done that and if he did I. Don't think again. He heating be very upfront. He wasn't very up front with the NBA in his intentions. I didn't necessarily tell them It is an apparent that he told them where he went. And if he didn't who knows if he would have had to been quarantined for so long, so I think potentially there he's putting other players at risk because who knows what went on but but like I said. I don't want to. beat up on Lou Williams because who knows what's going on the bubble I'm sure he's bored. I'm sure he's lonely. For for some older players I'm sure you know. They said they are getting bored. All I see some younger players do in just players general enlarge in large part. You know they're playing video games. They're streaming streaming playing with other famous players for for the large part in large part, or they're going out and doing leisure activities fishing ping pong bags. Who knows I mean our etc, etc? The and it can be boring. I can definitely see that it could be boring for guys who are used to going out in a in a lifestyle in going out and being you know social social lifestyle I can definitely see this being a tough environment for a person like that and probably a person like Lou Williams. And I bet it can be boring lonely in the bubble like I said he probably doesn't get into video games a whole lot. Maybe he's bored with all the leisure activities. He's been playing. Yes, yes, he. He likes clubbing. Hey, they gotta club. They have a club there. They gotTA DJ Dwight Howard said he was the only person to be there one, but hey, Lugo check out the the NBA's. Old dudes club. Go check that out. That'll be fun, man, but. Again I I can see why he did that. in his nature probably doesn't think it's that big a deal something he's used to doing. Again. In any other sense, it's not a very big deal, but in this sense where you could be putting something else someone else at risk. It is somewhat of a big deal. I'm glad the NBA is making him. Corentin for the proper amount of time I understand, but I disagree could be a really could be unsafe if they didn't. They didn't nip this in the bud. And if it is something that is a reoccurring issue. Hopefully, it isn't a reoccurring issue. The players that are outside of the bubble I said a lot of that clipper lineup Lou will. Zairians back now rondos out getting surgery so their players out of the bubble. Hopefully they. They Take A. Page from this book, they see that it's not the safe thing to do not necessarily the right thing to do or the smart thing to do right now. If this was a larger a larger name player Wow, can you imagine the stories out there today? Lou Williams of pretty high named player out there, but not at not too not too big deal to see this out there for him, but if this was like a Lebron. Jaanus type situation man. They would be taking some serious heat right now. I would think from a lot of people in my position like I said. Hopefully is not a reoccurring problem can get lonely andor stand, but you gotta get used to it, man. This is something you signed up for what you signed up for in the bubble and you have months. Okay? This season hasn't even. Yet and you gotta get away, so it's GonNa. Be Tough for players are very social players. You know who have that social life style got I need it in? The Bud gotTA gotTA. Realize you're going to be bored as heck for the next couple of months, but that's what it means. If you WanNa get that NBA championship, we'll see how important the championship really is to some players That's really in my opinion what it comes down to. How important is this season this bubble this year's championship? How important is that to these players? That is what is going to come down to. Either way I said. Hopefully they can nip it in the bud. Hopefully they keep. As many players as they can in the bubble. I'm go ahead and take a quick break when I come back since we don't have. We have basketball now so we probably won't be seeing this too much going forward, but we haven't had basketball since we have and ESPN released another list. All right guys like I said before the break I. WanNa talk about ESPN's latest list. Okay, I know how much we all love list but I wanNA talk about their top ten players in the Orlando bubble I I'm not quite sure the premises of this list, but again they came out with this list. We are nearing the end of what I have called the quote list era. Sport Lists Times. We've had over the last few months where we've seen a whole lot of lists basically. Nothing wrong with that. A Guy like me loves lists like these. But I am getting a little tired of them. We've seen a whole lot of them, but this one a little bit different. Okay, 'cause, some people are excluded. It's only about the players that are at the Orlando bubble, not every player, so that's pretty cool. It's only about the players in Orlando. And one of the last lists of the quote list era like I said we've been in recently, but let's talk about ESPN's list of the top ten players in the Orlando Bubble, so let me go ahead and read you guys list. Number ten Jimmy Butler number. Nine Nicola Yokich number eight Paul George Number, seven Luca Donncha which number six Joel, embiid number, five Anthony Davis number four James. Harden number three COA Leonard Number, two jaanus on Sates Cuneo, and at number one they had Lebron James as the best player at the Orlando bubble so again number one was Lebron, James Number two was Y-, honest number three was Kawai four Hardin for five ad six bead, seven Don. Church eight PG Paul George Nine Yokich ten butler. So that's the top ten. That's the top ten. I liked the top five. Okay, I'm all for that top five I like it for the most part non. It's terrible nine a bad list. Okay like I said I full heartedly. One hundred percent say the top five is the top five the order I put. Hedda Janas as of right now as the second best player, but either way I got Yon Harden at number four ad at number five, so Kuku we agreed their. Google. But BUBBA? Six through ten I got a slight issue with or somewhat of A. Issue with Should I say and Paul George. He's a great player, but ten right now. Jimmy Butler. He's a good player, but top ten right now yoga. She's really good, but top ten right now in bead, ease and top ten at six. Wow. I got some issues like I said was six. I've talked about this before in my last couple of podcasts if you've been listening. To the GMC podcast network for a little bit now but Russell. Westbrook recently was ranked outside of the top twenty, okay and none of the top ten he was outside of the top twenty of the top players this season alone. He was ranked twenty second twenty third on this on that list of players this season. So I wasn't necessarily surprised. To see his name, but again wears Russell Westbrook, where is Westbrook okay? Paul George. Worst MVP award, Yoga's versus MVP award. Jimmy Butler versus MVP award as have they been to the finals. No okay so I. Don't have they ever triple doubles. No I don't understand. The knock on Westbrook or the the the the huge knock on Westbrook yes. He. E can be a bit inefficient. He can be a bit up and down sometimes, but the dude his average, a triple double for years in a row has an MVP award has been to a final. You want from them. Okay, so like. How is he not a top ten, not a top ten player in this bubble. They literally put Jimmy Butler Paul George Ladonna, which even Joel Embiid Ango. CATCH AHEAD! Of Russell Westbrook I guess it's all time I. I don't know what this is based off of. All Time is just this season in the bubble isn't just is it? A? Is it a prediction of what's GonNa Happen in the bubble I. Think they already had one of those a couple of weeks ago. So I don't think it's that. What's the premises of this list, is it? Is it just the best players just the best players in that case? Where's Russell? Westbrook like I said. Where's Damian Lillard? Whereas you know if it's the season worst Pascal, Siaka. It's just like what's the premise of this list I. don't really understand it. again. Y, where's WH? Why disrespect Westbrook and Lillard? Against so much, because this is disrespectful in my opinion, put those players ahead of them. Damian Lillard an Russell Westbrook. What is this list like I said based off of that is what I would like to know but the top five like I. said I'm cool with that. Top Five Anthony Davis as a top five player in this bubble. James Harden Heck Hawaii. Yeah Jaanus Lebron Duh. Okay, so yes, those are top five. We know that Joel embiid number six. The six best player, but I sure I'll top I'll toss him in his top ten Luca Danni says yes, he's in the top ten for sure, but then again Paul. George Yokich Jimmy Butler. Maybe one of those guys can stay. You can pick which one you like better. But I'm not putting any three. Those three. Those guys I'm putting any of those guys ahead of Damian, Lillard or Russell Westbrook either. One of those guys I am taking both of them over all three of those guys. That's just me my personal preference. But again, what is the premise? What is the premises of this list, is it? This season is at all time. Is it going forward? What is it man they they just said. The top ten players are in my. Opinion is looking at I'm thinking! Oh, it's just the best ten players. It's the best player that Orlando Right now and that case again. It's disrespectful to Westbrook an Lillard to not have them in the top ten. In my opinion, I really like Butler what he's doing this year for Miami. What he's done what he didn't Chicago okay? But. In the all time status, even I don't think Jimmy. Butler is the player Russell Westbrook is or you know even today's NBA I'll take Russell Westbrook over Jimmy Butler so i. don't understand the Butler being in the top ten. Necessarily I give you top fifteen Paul George. He's close he'd probably is. If you're doing all the players right now what he's done in his past all-time. Yeah, he'd probably be in the top ten over Yokich because he's so young and. maybe even over Lillard. I'm probably taking Lillard over Paul George as well but. George I kind of understand I'm. Your catch also like he's been really go to govern over the past three years, but like we've seen much longer of You know longer resume of Westbrook. Lillard Paul George Jimmy Butler than Yokich I understand. He's being really good what he's doing, but still a top top ten head of these two guys are. I don't quite know Some people say he's better than embiid. He's the Best Center in the League today so I don't know if he's if he's top ten I. Definitely think those guys should be and like I said Russell. Westbrook miss out on the top twenty two players top. You know he wasn't. He wasn't. In the top ten ranked in the top one. Hundred was wasn't even in the top twenty, so we see the continued disrespect of you know of Russell Westbrook Damian Lillard. Also you know he's A. He's a top three point guard in my opinion in in today's NBA. He's NBA Two K. twenty-one cover athlete this year, so the getting disrespected I. Think Russ you know him put him in Damian Lillard are some of the top point guards in the league. especially this season especially in the League today I only put Steph ahead of those guys. Maybe you put Kyrie ahead of those guys as well but but still those are the only guys I'm putting ahead of Russell Westbrook and Damian Lillard. Again, no, I'm not putting Butler or Yokich ahead of them. Stay in the should have you know. We should have more to talk about going forward dropping. Going forward with with basketball being back, we should have more than just these lists talk about which again. I'm really looking forward to. Kind of getting tired of these lists and stuff like that. We're kind of getting out of this quote list era. But. Again whereas the respect for Westbrook Lillard. They both should be on this list. Again their top ten Lebron Jaanus Coli Harden Anthony Davis embiid done. Paul George Yokich. Jimmy Butler I. Agree with the top five wholeheartedly, those are the top five players in the bubble as as far as six through ten I think. Paul George a questionable player in their Luca also could be questionable just because he's only been in the League for two years same thing with Yokich Butler. Not The player Westbrook or Lillard is so Russell Westbrook Damian Lillard need to be in there. If you're taking out Yokich or Butler or Donncha picture or Paul George. I I understand, but you embiid even so I understand. But you gotta put those two guys in there. Don't understand the the recent disrespect of Russell Westbrook. Lillard as of recently has been getting the the. Recognition that he does the deserve song I want WanNa. Take anything away from Dame Lillard, but he's also. He's getting disrespected here. Another player. What's the premise is though is my. Final Point, what is the premises of this list? It's just right now the best players. I don't know I don't know. If Paul George Right now is better than. He's at number. Eight Yokich is at number nine. I don't think Paul Georgia's better than Yokich right now, so I don't know What's this list about? I think it just kind of. Because, we don't too much to me. No, we don't have too much going on right now. We are nearing the end of this quote list era. We're all looking forward to it. I've been talking about some of the League's best players. Obviously, the top ten what I WANNA do in my next segment. Is Talk about some of the? Less somewhat lesser known players in some case, another case like on. One of the more known players in the League, but I WANNA. Talk about the NBA's all rookie teams going forward are sorry. All rookie teams this year. In my next segment so don't go anywhere. That's coming up next. Out this show built around the women of MMA, from the UFC to the extreme case fighting, we got the fights cover. The golden state media concepts women's MMA podcast. The latest news upcoming twice discussions of reviews maps join us as we talked to in about the biggest names in women's mixed martial arts past present and future. It's the women's fight game. You know we're to listen to the golden state media concepts. Women's MMA podcast. All right guys welcome back to my final segment of the show. What was that? Yeah, it's my final as my final segment. Today's show for me. It seems like it's flying by a lot of cool stuff today but last week. If you listened I, gave you guys. My all NBA teams okay I, it came out that The NBA is this week is voting or last week especially as is coming to an end today actually the last day for voting today or tomorrow, either way. They're voting now for the all NBA regular season awards that includes MVP six man of the year rookie of the year as well as the all NBA teams and the all rookie teams. As, well as the all defensive teams, so look for that coming forward, but still the all rookie teams another team Getting voted on right now it's a it's A. It's a high somewhat of a high achievement to be voted on to the all rookie team. You know it's ten players, means you're basically you know one of the top ten roughly top ten players in that rookie class, so it's a high achievement and I wanna go ahead and give you guys my nba all rookie. Obviously want to start out with the first team. A decent amount of it was kind of close for me when I remember I I sat down and decided I wanted to talk about this. I thought it would be pretty easy. Player are pretty black and white. Pretty clear CL- are. Pretty clear cut. Who would make this list and who wouldn't looking at over? It was pretty tough I there was a couple of guys I was really debating with So why don't I go ahead and? Shut up and giving US my list so first team all NBA my first guard. I gotta go with my rookie of the year. If you've been listening Aja Moran Okay the Guy At. Murray state. Point Guard in for the Memphis Grizzlies. He's the guy who has willed them so far to the eighth spot in the Western Conference. Not something that's easy to do. He is a better record than a team like the New Orleans Pelicans San Antonio Spurs. Portland Trailblazers even okay so so John Moran is the reason. The Memphis Grizzlies are where they are in the western conference. He's averaging seventeen points. Seven assists on forty nine percent from the field again. He is the main highlight Memphis is over achieving this year so. It's an easy decision for me for anyone. John. Moran is my first. Guard guard on my first team for my rookie all rookie. All NBA Repeat Teams Okay first-team Jami rant number one guard. For my second guard, not someone everyone necessarily knowns. Is Not a huge name. But the guy in Miami, you know my on the Miami Heat. The point guard Kendrick Nunn is there at my other guard position? do good things for Miami this year. Not and I think he went undrafted, even but him averaging fifteen points three assists at one point. It was up to the eighteen. Point range drop down to the fifteen either way. He sustained fifteen points per game in his rookie season after going undrafted So-so two rounds. No one picked him the Miami. He picked him up. We see him playing. Well. One point some people were saying he was the rookie of the year before you know, jar really started playing well, and before his eye on was healthy, so he was he. He's been in discussion for the rookie of the year were he's arguably in that discussion He's my second guard on my first team for my rookie team. I like what he's done in Miami and he's been a big part for their for their success, too. I I should add for my first forward at the forward position. I gotta go with a Golden State Warrior. Guy, who popped even though he went in the second round Eric. Paschal okay fourteen points four rebounds, almost fifty percent from the floor in his rookie year. Not Something we expected from a guy, not something you know. Guy People saw coming even. So an impressive settling for him fourteen points, four rebounds for that depleted voyeurs roster this year. kind of a benefit for a guy like Eric Pascoe. Guys like Damian League League-high Bohm in another rookie, so those players went out and played more than they would have if steph curry. Klay Thompson Kevin Durant Injury Reagan's if those guys were there all seen. These guys see the minutes that they were getting But you know. We saw the injuries to that roster, and these guys played all year. He averaged thirty minutes. I game as well for a rookie, so that's impressive. He played a whole lot all year. Which is why he had that impressive fourteen four-. Fourteen in four stat lines Eric Paskal. Is My Ford underrated first-team. Rookie team for me. Other forward. This is an easy decision for everybody for some people their rookie of the year. I can't quite I can't quite give it to them. because of the only nineteen games play, but either way argue with the next phase of our League Zion. Williamson. Is it my next forward position? Twenty three points seven rebounds, fifty eight percent from the floor, forty six percent from the three point line, even though he didn't necessarily take. Too many as of late but either way. Very impressive stat line for a rookie averaging twenty three points seven rebounds, a Sword Thirty points over three times. Arguably this year's rookie of the year again only twenty games so I can't quite give it to them. In comparison to a guy like Josh, who's played all year at a high level? Either Way Zion like I said arguably the next face of our league. He's one of the next up and coming players. You know I did a topic on. He's arguably you know if you're taking players for the next ten years, some people are taking Zairean as that guy, so we know what he is when he's on the floor when when he's games. That means people are watching. People are tuning in so people love this. Guy Rightfully so Zion Williamson also on my first team. See at my center position I put a is arguably a forward, but I'm GonNa Slot Him at the Center Brandon Clark for Memphis as well. He's also in part in has to do woods. The success emphasis had twelve point six rebounds a sixty two percent field goal percentage of forty percent from the three point line, so he's he's playing very well and underrated named not a guy. You've heard of all season. Season if not at all, so he's getting twelve six sixty two percent from the floor, forty percent from the three point line. He's helping this. Guy John Moran getting. The Memphis Grizzlies to that aid spot so far, so that is my first team for my Ol- NBA. That's my first team. I. Got John Moran Kendrick Nunn Eric Pascoe Zion Williamson and Brandon. Clark love what you guys think of that list. Oh. Sorry to my back real quick. You, guys know how it is. Either let me think of that list I think it could have gone either way. Let's go ahead and move to the second second team because somebody you guys. You guys are the missing. Players are okay, so my all rookie second team at the first guard I'm going. This is a tough tough decision. I ended up going with Koby white from the Chicago Bulls. point guard thirteen point three assists shooting thirty five percent from the three point line. Under forty percent from the field, so it was, it was a hard decision for me to put him in here, but I think he's an up and coming player I think he's one of the better point guards in this class. I wouldn't put any other point guard necessarily above him. you know besides John, Kendrick, non but Kobe in Chicago, thirteen points three assists. He's enlarge they. They haven't been too much in Chicago this year, but what they have done no-one Kobe's playing he he has played very well are pretty well. Who knows what's going on Chicago? It's Zach Levine show basically in Chicago but either way. He's playing pretty good. RJ, Baird, at my other. Actually. I started to put rj at the forward position. Actually he's six foot six six foot seven, so I thought he could either way so i. put Rg at my first forward position at fourteen points five rebounds. One of the better the best young pieces for that nicotine going forward a lot of questions for that nicotine I heard. They're hiring Tom Thibodeau possibly probably getting time it over the next five years That's what we've been hearing at least but but are j. one of the shining young stars. In New York fourteen points. Five rebounds is my second team. Tyler Hero my other guard. He's playing pretty well this season for the Miami. Heat thirteen points, four rebounds can shoot the at a at a decently high clip as well he can, he can take and make big shots I like him in Miami for years going forward. He's on my second team rook or my second all rookie team. I liked him a lot. Not a guy, necessarily new quite much before the season, but now I do I'm a fan of his going forward. Tyler hero is my second guard. From my second forward doing a Hachi Mara from the Washington Wizards Thirteen point six rebounds I think he can do a little bit of everything I like him in Washington Depleted I. Know Undermanned Roster New not too much talk about he is a young a young player. He's pretty legit in my opinion. Don't do don't know too much about him. But from what I have seen from what I do, know I like him at thirteen point six rebounds. He's on my second team. For my center also arguably a fast forward PJ Washington for Charlotte twelve points five rebounds thirty seven percent from the three. To Talk About for Charlotte, he is one of the better young players on that older roster. And bad roster to be to be blunt but he is one of the better young pieces on that team PJ. Washington twelve points five rebounds thirty seven percent from the three. So that's my second team Koby White Rj Barrett Tyler Hero Hachi MARA MPG PJ WASHINGTON first team. John, Moran, Kendrick Nunn Eric Paschal. Zion Williamson Brandon Clark, my mentions honorable mentions gotta be Darius Garland in Cleveland. Terry's Terence Terence Davis. Sorry from Toronto N. De'andre Hunter from Atlanta my Virginia Guy those my mentions those are my teams. Let me know what you guys think. Th those are some decent names for the up and coming. Players in this league obviously. The two highlights John. Moran and Zaylon Williamson. The two heavyweight fighters for this rookie of the year award. We'll see who ends up with the award I. Think it's pretty much Toseh-. Though job probably deserves it playing all year. Even those ion is the better player, so who knows those are my rookie teams. Guys I'll decent rookies on those teams. Clippers Land Kawhi & Paul George
"The good day swirl it Saturday July sixth two thousand nineteen. Thanks for tuning into the free agents podcast. I'M G skeets here in studio and alongside me making the magic happen as J._D.. What do J._D.? What to do baby what to due J._D.? Yeah just the two of us here. It's a two man in-studio at least emergency podcast Colli Leonard's free agency ended in an absolute stunner very very early this morning here on Saturday July sixth the two two thousand eighteen finals m._v._p.. He signed with the Los Angeles Clippers and in the process he brought Oh Casey's Paul George with him. Yes the thunder will receive Danilo Gallinari Shea Gilders Alexander shut up to Canada and multiple draft picks from the clippers. I four unprotected. I plus an additional first rounder and to pick swaps and I guess this wasn't their choice but P._G.. Reportedly requested a trade once. Why tried to convince him? Hey we should go to the L._A.. Clippers again an absolute absolute shocker here a bombshell just J. J. D. and I here in the studio but we're going to see if we can get T._k.. Trey Kerby an Leila's on the phone throat. This podcast will start with Li Li. I think he's somewhere in Spain leak. We can you hear me. Are you there. Where are you? How's it going migos? Komo's where are you first off. I'm in northern Spain. Just a place called Oviedo. I just drive up today from Madrid so <hes> so beautiful diets bright and sunny having a great time but I've got the slack messages on the way on the drive up Roxana was in the passenger seat. She was navigating she said I think the boys want to talk to you about the trade and I said all right well listen. We're halfway through the not stopping and pulling over on the side arrive at the kids in the back. Tell them I'll be able to do it but we appreciate you finding some time there yeah while you're up in northern Spain. That sounds all right. I don't know what's been crazier. Trying to keep track of where coli was over the last week or so where you've been uh but let's let let's get your reaction. Let's jump right to it. What's your reaction? How how did you find this out because yeah I guess you had the little time difference there I mean I was waking up to this news and being told by Nora who's lying beside me at seven in the morning? Hey I think is going into the clippers. I said Yeah right to alert the first thing she said to be in the morning. I said Yeah right she goes. I think Paul George is heading with them to the clippers. I said quote your wrong and then I grabbed my phone was like Oh my God but how did you find out again being a little bit later later in the day. I guess that's the first bomb I think we've ever double bonus for nor yes it was around. I guess it was rampant o'clock this morning local time he you know I I just got up and I just sort of scaled. The tweets weights 'cause I was expecting some news and the first the first news I saw was the earthquake at at Summer League and it was legit people saying united things were shaking around and then I think it was a Mara Baptist I think it was saying to earthquakes now and and then it was the worst news and it was like and then it was like he's going to the clippers and that was when I had to click on the words profile to make sure it wasn't fake right as oil honestly thought that he wasn't GonNa trip as I thought I I sit on our show at back back on the status. I thought he was saying in Toronto. When they won? The championship was very convinced he was going to stay and then I thought the Lakers that might have pretty strong play for him and I thought if anyone could may be swayed in here so like I also felt that we've Lebron and Anthony Davis say I just didn't feel that was the right spot for Kawhi so the fact that the clippers had have been basically stalking into the last twelve months and putting in the effort to really try to get the fact that Little Pied Office is really a credit to them because you know this is the franchise that we we know they always tend into miss out on these things but clearly in this instance they did whatever it took to get. They clearly convinced him that you know that was the right spot for him and then they went out and Got Georgia. I looked mortgage the future but I think as we've seen teams are prepared to take hike on that risk nail because you only have to look at what happened Bitcoin into with Toronto last season they won the championship by taking a huge risk and it was with it. You know it was worth it. Even though coys going Denny Green's going it doesn't matter the rafters at champions and that's why you go for the big big swings things and that's what the <unk> I think great for them credit to them credits estate balm of going in all in there and obviously Jerry West. I think that's probably the big that he whatever their approach was. Whatever their peach was Jerry West had a lot to do with that because because he has just a incredible track record of having success and once again you're saying it yeah for sure I mean he now has helped get shocked to the Lakers way back when Katie to the warriors and now Colli an Paul George to the clippers? I'm talking talking about Jerry West here. Do we have to assume that the reason the CLI- decision took so long was this idea of him going to bomber Anti Jerry West and to Lawrence Frank and saying hey clippers this is what I want. GimMe another star Gimme Paul George and I'm yours and then and then this is why it took a little longer than maybe expected and that they were like well okay. Who can we get you know there was there's Bradley beal rumors being thrown around jrue holiday rumors being thrown around but those guys were untradeable and then they finally landed? I'm Paul George that that may be why this took so long or is it just in your opinion quite being quiet in that camp keeping everything so tight lipped well according to words I think that's what he was alluding to that. That basically accepts needed that time to go out and get the deal Don with with Oklahoma City and apparently this didn't really happen until says they afternoon evening. Wei Po Georgia's agent went through San Preston said tried me in San Prestige. I think smartly realized like there's no point in me hanging on it because the two religions the Sunda clearly on <unk> contenders right now with the team they have there's no question about that. If you got Paul George and the Clippers of prepared to pay any price then you absolutely hose them for that new to get all those draft picks I think it ends up being about five unprotected first round picks plus Shergill just Alexander already so if you'll the thunder I mean it's it's a bit of a sad I begin what it's actually not that sad because as I say the last couple of years first round exits things clearly they were getting closer to a championship. You May as well cash in law. You can't Paul George and now the question really becomes what does have what happens with Russell. WESTBROOK has <unk>. I can't see him. I cannot say him requesting a trade. I think he's too. He doesn't want to have that on his sort of wrap shape but clearly clearly if you'll Russell Westbrook he doesn't want to be part of rebuilding saying hey would probably prefer to go somewhere else and now it's just a matter of I think <hes> whichever team he ends up at you know when when you look at the clippers <hes> when this process hosts this whole process started they seem to be one of the teams in the head that home court advantage as far as that's where Koalas from but it just it just sorta felt the wants the like is might apply. Maybe that would change things but in the end United Clippers did whatever it took and <hes> you know if if it works and they win a championship even if they only win one championship than it's worth but if things go south in there for a few years after this little experiment anyway Oh yeah that's exactly right I mean the Lakers and the clippers now have they've have completely mortgage their futures to landy superstars in a D and then now in Paul George to team up with quiet and that is one way I mean you're right. It's a lot of picks a lot of unprotected picks. There's pick swaps in the future but it's not we have to remember. It's really not just for Paul. George coach it really is for Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and that makes it a little more a little easier to stomach. I think Oh yes definitely definitely again and again whereas was sort of saying that that co I may have gone to the lake is if the clippers couldn't get that Georgetown site. That's that's why official clippers and I'll bet you say impressed the he you know again in that article saying how they were trying to get the raptors involved in trying to deal Westbrook and Paul George to the raptors ran massage <unk> remove Missouri just wasn't interested in that on that you know I think that's the right move as well because that combination hasn't proved successful and so I think Sam Preston was probably telling them that listen the rest of the united that we're gonNA. We're GONNA deal. We're GONNA try to embed gives us. All those picks aches and you know it's funny because I know you're not allowed to trade picks. Two first round picks two years in a row but I guess they have a bunch of the they have a bunch of the heat's picks. That's why yeah so. They're not. They're picks yeah. That's right because it's a twenty twenty. One Miami unprotected on twenty. Twenty two PM Clippers and then another Miami and the back to the clippers yeah so it's well and you know a couple of things here you sort of slipped in there. Yes the Woche bomb really truly believe it was Kris Haines that I I got you know the big news out the client N._p._R.. News to me was this article that came out a little earlier this morning here or a little later. I guess I should say after the big news that Sam Preston you said it pursued a package of Russell Westbrook and Paul George to the raptors with Pascal as the centerpiece of the deal and Messiah Jerry bulked now that was me quoting from his article now so what happens is you now. Get these headlines that say well raptors turned down Westbrook and Paul George for Pascal Siaka like that's how it reads. You know what I mean but that's just so silly because the deal is not going to be seven million dollars for a guy that makes three million dollars in Siaka. It's going to be probably Lowery and Ghazal and Pascal and another young guy tons of draft picks you that you know it's a it's completely completely blowing up a team. Now we could still debate whether you would do it and whether he should have and all that but it's not like Pascal CIOCCI I'm just for Westbrook and call the silliest thing you see some people overreacting to that yeah and the thing is as well with the raptors on a particularly massage the jury you know obviously they will probably disappointed with the news but you know what I don't think he didn't have a contingency plan in place here. <hes> the REP is will go into next season as of now not the favorites to repeat. Certainly you know you can't lose your best player and going his favorite but I don't they think massage. You're is GONNA panicky. I think he's GonNa just keep doing what he's been doing for the last cake building strategically and he realizes as well that you know you call a Larry Serge Ibaka mock assaults. Those probably won't be wrapped is beyond next season anyway so the rest after you know I it was clearly I would've golfer again next season but now that he's not there it gives them. At least some direction going forward that C._R._M.. Is The guy they're gonNA build around and there's no doubt about that. They can now see what happens next season. They're going to have a couple both expiring contracts as well so I wouldn't be surprised if Messiah looks at next season says look we can pick up a couple of extra fish rammed his he may be by the trade deadline and start rebuilding process. No don't know that they're gonNA mailing next season but but obviously they're just not gonNA. You know what I think. I think that'd be very good odds. Go in repeating just because you know they've lost coy but other Messiah Messiah is not gonNa cry and feel sorry for himself. He's going to be like you know what like we've prepared to this. I think he's planning for every scenario and so you know I think the Rams Sooba followed yeah you're right. The Raptors are not a title contender next year unless Pascal turns into quite Leonard just and that's not going to happen but I saw Josh Lewin Burke tweeting this the idea that the raptors could be open for business. This goes to what you're saying here. Expiring Contracts Lowery Kasana Baca but the problem is trying to move those you know those types of salaries. You're going to be taken back in a long term money even if you're trying to get future picks and I don't see Masai usury wanting to go that route and that'll be the tough thing with those massive salaries lowery thirty five million Gazelle twenty five million a buck around twenty three twenty four million so will they look messiahs areas as shocked us before but I could see them just basically running back and handing the keys to Siaka O._G.. A little bit more maybe even Fred Van Vliet and seeing sort of hey are any of those three younger guys sort of a future all stars for a locks for all stars seems the most likely but otherwise it just could be the same team yeah. That's the thing I mean. I think he goes you. Mentioned of course I might and big money but we know what massage did try deadline last year. When the team felt they were chance they went and they took on Marcus? I know that you know effectively. They tried it salary for <unk> salaries Valentina since the mall but the thing is teams will be desperate if they feel they're a chance and the scene work with the raptors. I wouldn't be surprised if someone does cough a first round picks life when they when they become a little bit more desperate for because it. It's a proven strategy now that you know you have to go for it if you see that window of opportunity because it has worked now we have a track record so you know teams will undoubtedly look at that situation and you're also getting ah championship quality player as well so you know and then you're going to be so desperate you look at what everyone's dominate like the Brooklyn Nets Getting Kevin Durant Cario v the Lakers and the clippers clearly gotten bit us but teams are going to feel like like you know what we have to compete. We have to go all in here and that's what I think will happen this directors you know they've got players who are available and who has now championship experience that just increases the value yeah the Paul George thing is sort of crazy when I start to think about it right now the idea that maybe Messiah and the Raptors they only make that move in trading for quite Leonard Who's going to be up for for a brand new contract. They only make that because they feel a little more reassured after they saw what happened with Paul George going to the Oklahoma City thunder and everybody myself included thinking well okay cool. You Got Paul George for a little bit but he's going to go to the Lakers inevitably anyway. So what are you doing and then he doesn't and that sort of in a weird way maybe help changes inches the minds of Messiah the Raptors Organization of Hey. Let's and it's a different scenario. I get it with you had to Rosen. You've sort of run that into the ground it's probably not gonNA get any better than it already was but he does this and then here we are with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard now getting you know maybe joined at the hip in weird way before this now literally on the same team. It's fascinating. Let's talk quickly here about what this means for Russell Westbrook. Do you think because Roy Seon he's breaking it down thunder nearly fifteen million dollars over the tax threshold still facing current forty three million in dollar luxury tax payment so you would assume more changes around the way and the big dog there and the big contract is Westbrook. Do you think he can be moved and do you think this is something that we that we could see sooner rather than later. Maybe yeah I mean definitely he can be moved on anyone. Somebody moved right now and I think if you are the Sunda you'll probably shopping him around a little bit and say listen who wants him because he's going to be available and as I said early on I think Westbrook's it's hard to God and he's go in there and demand to try publicly because he knows he doesn't want that reputation but he he's a player who doesn't want to be a part of this rebuilding process and Steven Adams as well. Throw his name in that you know he's a he's a guy who's got a lot of value. He can play it very good. Defensive play ever good rebound that you know it just brings a level of toughness so I will be shocked if Russell Westbrook finishes the season in Oklahoma City. I think you know I think he gets traded before the season starts. I think that would be just a an enormous blue to the thunder fans out there in Oklahoma but I think now he realizes he has to if he wants to really contend new really wants to win. A championship is simply has to move on from Armagh city. I think what Sam Christie will probably try to do as a culminating as best he can in and trying to put him in a situation where can contend exactly where that is. I'm not sure because Westbrook we know he's a fantastic play during the regular season but he's play of track record hasn't been gripe these last couple of years and that probably has affected him a little bit but <hes> I just yeah I think he has to think I don't think anyone really not climate city would be would be upset with him for leaving just think he handles it in a way that is almost like well. They got rid of me rather than maize now saying I want to try it as well just like everybody body else yeah and Fred Katz tweeting out today. I think it's a good point because something you're saying about the idea of maybe he doesn't get moved here in the summer and it's more likely he it's moved maybe into the season or a season or two because that and Fred Cat saying there are very few teams that have space and the fact that you know half after League was basically free agents here in the summer tons of trades while a lot of those guys can't be then retreated until December fifteenth so yeah maybe it is something as we near the trade deadline and if the thunder lean heavily in to a blow it up and let's rebuild and let's try and clean up our books a little bit so we're not paying forty three million dollars extra in luxury tax than yeah then. It's something that happens. I gotta get your your take on the idea that quite Leonard did leave the raptors because we we had a heated a very heated debate. It was like Matteo's involved. I mean it felt like we were sort of all going against you or I remember. This was during the end of the season here in the idea of K. D. possibly leaving if the warriors at one and you said I don't WanNa put words in your mouth but you're like no way you know you win a title you stay. That's how it's always been in the N._B._A.. And it won't change and here's glide the finals M._v._p.. Ultimately saying you know no there are things a little more important than just than just straight it up money and maybe I guess you could argue that. He thinks he has a better chance with Paul George suddenly at the clippers and he would running back with the raptors. I'm not sure I would agree with that but the sort of against what you thought we absolutely it did because. You know for any pitch than any other team May to Kawai it was based on words was actions whereas the Raptors had twelve months of actions that delivered a champion <unk> chip to him so really what would Messiah Jerry's pitch even beaten him. Listen listen. We just did it. We're GONNA do the same thing again. You know. We're GONNA give you the rest and we're gonNA accommodate you as best as possible and now you have a challenge of like wow staples because people are going to put yesterday's on that taught over the rapids like go out and do it again. Prove them all wrong you all these other super take that has to be built likely Lebron. Anthony Davis happened L._A.. It's unproven until you see what happens on the court and we know history is told us you know that it just doesn't always come together as well as did for the raptors now by also got a little bit lucky it's on. There's no question about that but I always I spoke like that. If you have done that an an you've proven that you can win and you've had success. Why would you wanNA leave that situation? I didn't necessarily think he was going to sell in that five years supermax with Toronto but I certainly felt he was definitely gonNA come back for one more time and try to win it again because I think that the <hes> the stigma of Toronto it's not there anymore for players. When you see someone like Hawaii who really did seemingly embraced the city and embrace the town and embrace just playing four Toronto you had tried representing the Canadian team and so I was definitely shocked this morning when when I was like he's going to the clippers and they were talking about for Georgia's gun as well so there was a little bit more to it wasn't like he went on on his own volition? He needed a little bit more <hes> something else to go either now again. If he doesn't if Paul George they kind of get that down joined the Lakers I think so I think so it really feels like this guy just wanted to go to California like what we the one thing we knew about quite Leonard and we don't know a lot and never have and probably never will was that he didn't want to go to California that was we did know and we've known that for for some time it was whether he could be convinced to stay up in Toronto or go to another team but in the I do think you're right. I think you know this ultimatum so to speak to the clippers of hey give me another star and if it's Paul George Awesome I'm there and if you don't then I'm going in the Lakers because that's the other California team and I'll go there but but we'll never know if that was just apply as well because you know so for me you know the the talk about how he said He. He wanted Magic Johnson to be in the room and stuff like that now. I think you make that request for Magic Johnson to be if you're not like like Lebron last year whereas like listen I'm coming just sort of make it so sugar coat it for me so that I don't even have to think twice about that is the fact that he then basically dunked on the lake is by joining the Clippers of old teams almost tells me that he was just climbing the Lakers because I just don't know why he would go to those lengths to string the Lakers alone and then ultimately joined the clip clearly to me from what we've seen this morning he wanted to go to the clippers I and the the fact that the Lakers were there was maybe just a play and just deployed site. You GotTa Get Paul George and do whatever it takes and otherwise done like is and that's why maybe maybe they coughed up by speaks. Maybe the clippers and we went and we're like well. We'll give up two first round picks and maybe shy and Landry Shamet Osama and he's like well. If you kind of get it done. If you kind of get full George then I'm not coming. You know what I mean so the so much play but one thing is incredible is that no-one sore coming like this is is a lot of great reporters out there got all sorts of connections and links and sources but nobody saw this playing out and that is really what we heard all along about what Koi wanted in this process he didn't want any lakes he didn't on any speculation <hes> and there was plenty of speculation but it just wasn't accurate in the we saw that the clippers with a team that was kind of pushed to the side in these last few days when it was <hes> it appeared as I'd like is had gotten themselves into pole position Toronto but having said Batter Toronto we'll hear from Toronto pay with the Raptors are made a good impression drake was there and it was just a matter of like you know. The fact that he flew back on the private jet is like that's a pretty good indication that he's he's that he strongly considering going back to Toronto Anto but proved to be wrong and that's the way it goes but you know it's it's. It's it's an incredible feeling because you know you know yourself as a raptors fans how many times the raptors have kind of missed adult things going wrong and it just feels like it feels like groundhog day in a lot of ways for these big decisions but today I was kind of like it doesn't matter they won the championship. It was worth it. You know it's hot next year. At the end of next season Milwaukee the Lakers the clippers you know the warriors the rockets they get one of those teams is GonNa win the championship probably and the team to feel like it was just another another tough season for them and that's the way it goes inside the fact that the raptors were able to break through win. You know that that's all worth it and it was you know. It doesn't take away anything from the season for Mayo K._O._A.. celebrational the joy that that everyone felt in the in the last few weeks of the season because winning a championship is just so damn hot and you look at what teams doing had desperate they are to just put themselves in that position now and I think that justifies again what the raptors has lost seasons. Oh yeah that is a no brainer if anyone tries to tell you as the raptors fan or whatever they call themselves that oh it wasn't worth it in the end because I was only there for a year and then he leaves. They're just straight up wrong. They won the title and they only win. The title because Kawhi Leonard is a part of that team case closed done and that's why I was so hell bent on telling people hey just enjoy the ride right now. Through this crazy magical raptors run especially into the playoffs and all these crazy shots falling just enjoy this because it could be another twenty four twenty five years before the raptors are ever back fighting for a championship and yeah and they got lucky with some injuries. No doubt the warriors probably would have won if everybody's playing. I that's fair but you know that happens every year in every N._B._A.. Season so all over you going to say though just saying like even it comes back. I mean the raptors. There's no of course not guaranteed. I again next season united so it's not like they just left the championship on the table. They cashed in the right time made it all worth it and <hes> they've got now that for years here's the other part about this whole thing massage traded for quite Leonard. He traded D'Amato Rosen. I get it a guy who's very likely going to get his Jersey retired by the raptors down the line and Yucca pertile and a late pick and they got Danny Green Bay. I mean they didn't mortgage their future like that's the other part here. They didn't go all right well here. We are giving up ten fifteen years. I mean we're GonNa pray that we win the title and then and then he's very likely gone and then well. We're done for the next decade but that's not the case I mean it was it was a calculated move. It was a ballsy move but not nearly as ballsy as I as I think as some of these other teams like the Lakers now in the clippers just really more like a complete other team is going to have all your draft picks for for for years here exactly and you know when massage D'Amato Rosen he signed him because it was like listen. This is an asset signing here as well so in the guy. He deserves his contract. I'll be able to move it in a couple of years if I need to and that's exactly what he did and yeah you're Yaacob. Photo cooed solid play but certainly worth all that tried gave off his first round pick data the spurs but that's the thing that the clippers on the lake is a bicycle gambled on winning it in the next year or two and if they don't then they're staring at you know who knows here's how long <hes> <hes> of just although I mean you you maybe looked at the Brooklyn Nets and thought will five years ago. The Brooklyn Nets in this situation where that no pics had no plays. I had no real <hes> enticing <hes> not a very interesting situation for free agents against but one site so clean things up in Moscow <unk> turned around and gotten up themselves into position now where they're very very good thing so maybe maybe teams though you know what even if we give up all these picks you can sometimes get sort of wriggly way out of it but again. It's it's a huge risk. <hes> one of those things obviously is going to feel next season that they're gonNA come up short but again. If you'll the raptors luck saying earlier I just I think massage theory has got some sort of plan already in place in as like this plan plan. I is is we can push forward a plan bay. I we start the rebuild again and <hes> hopefully white wine tight is too long but <hes> he you know even I think it was at he's postseason press conference. He said you know if Kawhi leaves the thank him and then we'll move on. There was no no sign of desperation in his voice. No sign of like Oh man you know we we have to justify ourselves swinney buddy. He's like we've done. We've wanted and you know that that's a strongest case that we the we have to make the pitch to interstate next seas. Yeah I WANNA make it very clear. I am not knocking the Lakers or the clippers for these huge deals that include all these picks to going at superstars. I mean I just saw how how it works with the picks of course but it works when you get to one of the top players in the game and then in the Lakers case. You Got Lebron for this very short window. I mean you gotta go for the title right now. So you got a great you paired him and you were hoping to get quite as well okay you don't no big deal and then the clippers I mean they haven't made like I tweeted today thought the Raptors fans had. A bad for a long time the clippers haven't made the conference finals since one thousand nine hundred seventy one when they really the Buffalo Braves for crying out the conference finals so they have an opportunity yet the mortgaging the future and all these picture but wow you just got to of the better players in the game both terrors on both ends of the floor defense and offense and Paul during a quiet yeah you're going to do that. Are the clippers a couple more questions for I let you go. I can hear the kids in the background getting on <hes> yeah as long as there's all sorts of cousins and people I don't even know Spanish. I gotta get a be doing okay well. Questions Clippers in your mind are the clippers immediate title favorites. Yes I would say okay yes because you you you sort of mentioned it. I mean defensively. You've got obviously those Patrick Beverley there as well. <hes> I'm forgetting somebody but they've got <hes> defensively. They've got incredible length and switch ability offensively the guys who can hit their own shot create their own shot. They young. They're hungry. The fresh life is no real weakness on that same right now outside <hes> yeah so I I think I would say out of the Western Conference. Definitely we know that the war is clearly not going to be favorite next season the Lakers I would take the clippers over the Lakers roster right now the rock the rockets will be in the hunt Eh but I'm not I'm not convinced. Chris Paul will be on the rockets at the end of next season so right now I would have the best in the West in the eastern. Conference Michigan asked me but outside the box would be my eastern conference pick right now. Yeah and I like seeing Vegas here. WE'RE NOT WE'RE NOT VEGAS Summer League everybody out there enjoying their Zion versus R._J.. Game last night and then the earthquake and I gotta hope everybody's Okay but you're right in Vegas. Clippers are the favorites Lakers right there the box seventy sixers and then on and on and on on do you do you think the the Lakers are the biggest loser in this in this again sort of ground breaking news or is it just the raptors because they lost choirs at the thunder because they caught a caught a straight here. I believe World Wide Web tweeted out where it was like thunder. Get involved in this like who's the biggest loser in this in this pairing here of Hawaiian P._G.. Going to the clips well it look if coalisland said to the Lakers oncoming if he can somehow get another play. We don't know if they had a chance to get him in. I missed it out in the like is for me because you've got Anthony Davis. You've Lebron you add to that mix them. They're the favorites for the N._B._A.. Championship next season the fact that he's joined the clippers. I think that is a huge blow to Los Angeles even even though they've had a great off season by getting Anthony Davis they you know they needed to finish the job and that's what the clippers were able to do to get that second soup to stop because Lebron James is still good but he's going to be thirty five in December it. You know he's coming off his worst season. As far as injuries got last season. He's still going to be very very good player but he's clearly we saw when he came back losses <unk> tonight icon they play chase it coin of <hes> evaporated largely Lebron. He checked out and things you know that that's the big thing for the lake is next season is what sort of Lebron's going to get. IS HE GONNA be. You know hyped up again that he's GonNa Anthony Davis may be but is it also gonna be the fact that he's thirty five years old. He's going to need a lot more loyd management himself just to be able to sort of contents are I would say you know other all the teams that have lost. I mean the thunder has but it's actually another good loss for them because <hes> they weren't a contender in my mind now they've got a future at least the build on and they'll probably get more in return for Russell Westbrook's out. I think if you're a thunder you KINDA bummed out but it's like you know what let these two other teams all these these other three or fourteen spotted after the next two or threes and then maybe the thunder we ready to contend again so I think they're okay and the raptors honestly. I'm not not too upset for him because I think <hes> I think they'll be okay. It's not going to be a great season next to you for sure but I think in the long run I have complete faith in Messiah jury so I think the raptors will be out yeah. The wraps are the big losers in whether or not they're still going to get a Christmas Day game. I think that's a strong possibility they you don't get that game now and a ring night could be weird to that's GonNa just be strange so it'd be you know no Leonard getting the ring's not going to be there well well. They'll do that of course when he does come for his any one visit when he says he's GonNa get a standing ovation and saw a Tribute Video Raises Jersey in the rafters then yeah. There's no question that the reputation of the raptors has has improved and play his will look at Toronto as a situation. That's like you know what you can win. Winning sixty eight in be be very have a very very good career there. If you choose to go there where you end up being traded to the rafters <unk> it's it. It's not a sad day. It's not a sad diet. It's a diet like all right. You know what that's what he just thought it move on Yeah and the Lakers of moved quickly here because they were in this they were playing the waiting game with as we all were but especially the Lakers and the clippers and the raptors not being able to make a ton of other moves but the Lakers signed Danny Green so two years thirty thirty million dollars signed Quinn Cook two years six million dollars they brought back Casey P he continues to get paid to your sixty. Million Dollars retained Javale McGee two years eight point two million dollars so they're making some moves here who knows where cousins lands as well but yeah. It's how does Casey Pika two years honestly a lot of money a lot of money through good agents man. I'll tell you that but what's this breaking news to you. ooh I see it but I'm just like this is amazing. He's the Navan doesn't bring anything to that saying. Okay well again a crazy crazy morning really appreciate h you taking some time to get away from all the kids they're running around. So where have you been. I know you were in London and then you've obviously made your way to Spain. Did I miss anything in between and how's it going yeah. We're in London for <hes> about ten days. I think it was and then we moved <hes> we flew down to Madrid <hes> we both have my wife. Roxana has some friends here not had a friend years. Well we caught up with those guys showed the kids around the city says it's a great city Madrid. Spain offs are not not that Humid eight that we get in the land of it just a dry eight legacy and right yeah like Vegas just not not in the forties like Vegas sort of low thirties but <hes> yeah great and then we we're in Oviedo right now visiting another friend of Roxana so here for a couple of days and then we head back to London and I'm hoping I'm hoping to snag a ticket to Wimbledon One day but it's a little tough out there right yeah. I know you'll you'll find an ability to get five hundred queen. Wow so balking at that run lead just doing listen listen. This is all fun during the podcast but we wanted. I've got to watch out for that but also the cricket world. Cup is on in England right now. Australia arrived in the semi finals so I if I can maybe get out to that but we'll say was saying the next few days yeah miss worldwide over here. Lee Ellis enjoy the all the sports again well. We appreciate you taking the time. Send send our best. Everyone and we'll we'll see you back here. stateside soon enough no worries all right buddy. Let's see if we get online here all right. I think we got tray on the phone T._k.. Can you hear me Oh there. He is oh. It's been so long since I've heard a nail. Where are you right now? Lee was in Spain. Where are you in Delvin Wisconsin Johnson out onto the beautiful lake delvin feeling like Paul? George wanted to hit the hit the high season catch the big fan okay so you were in Illinois. Now you're in Wisconsin and you're I guess at some point making your way back here to you. Guys haven't quite the summer it's great yeah the Trey Kerby Midwest tour right now right every state from here to Georgia but yeah back eventually well. Let's let's get you know how you found out about this blockbuster signing and then trade here today with Paul George ending up on the clippers. How did you find out your your Lee had the benefit of being hours ahead of us here on the East Coast? You correct me if I'm wrong. You're an hour behind us here in Atlanta so it was super earlier. Maybe you were up late. I don't know how did you find out oh I was definitely not up late. I was pulling a Lille on this one. I was in bed by eleven central time last night. So the way I found out was this morning you know Isla our oldest woke up pretty early and the first thing she wanted to do was open the curtains to the room and I'm like absolutely not absolutely not close close the curtains. It is too bright. Everybody else is sleeping. So you know that was that was my first battle and then Laura happened look at her phone and all of the WHATSAPP groups were going crazy with quite Leonard. This is a bad decision what happened so then. She throws her phone. Open tells me coin Leonard to the clippers and Paul George instantly shot up out of bed the coffee pot and suddenly I was sitting outside gazing on the lake trying to actually understand how this could happen. Last night. I was talking to a couple of my wife's cousins just about how long this is taking it. How maybe something will happen the next day but I mean we even chatted about how Ba- thunder how could they possibly get better out? It was a shock to find out in the first five minutes. I was awake this morning especially since it started with alight battle you're absolutely right. It's really it's a shock to the system. When you find out like news this big first thing in the morning? I just told the same thing I mean Nora had grabbed her phone before I was even awake and was telling me nudging me that Hey I think Hawaii is signing with the clippers and then Oh my God Paul Georgia's headed there too and I'd like just straight up colder Aligarh. I thought she was just on sunlight hack website. You know what I mean like. What are you looking at? What facebook page are you looking at getting this like definitely wrong information and then of course as soon as I opened my God? This is happening okay so you're obviously you're shocked just like everybody else now that you've had some hours to digest it a little bit are you. Are you all in on the clippers being being sort of the immediate title favorites. Lee Thinks Oh vegas things. So what does the Kirby thing there at least right up at the top amongst you know I guess I'm out rushmore title contenders it's GonNa be it's tough to say because the Lakers I think are still gonna be in the mix. You're counting literally. The number of all stars the sixers have the most guys with embiid Simmons and now Al Horford <hes> Milwaukee obviously has the re the reigning M._v._p.. They won sixty games last year. They've got in the mixed but I don't know quite let it was the best player in the league throughout the playoffs and now he's going west and he's got another V._p.. Level Guy next door after we saw the fight that the clippers without those two guys gave the warriors that they were able to basically bring back that whole team plus two m._v._p.. Guys I mean everybody's excited about the clippers right now. Surely that's why the favorite off the clippers. They got this but it remains to be seen but this looks like it's going to be a great team. I think they'll probably make another upgrade to get some sort of big tall guy at center but that seems to be the one thing they're missing but the pressure they can put defensively on the perimeter. It's not super important. They're going to be fun to watch and I feel like everybody's going to love watching this clippers team because they I love the previous Clippers Team Coy Paul. George probably aren't rocking that boat yeah I think that's right because their identity that they had built their this clippers team winning forty games challenging the warriors in the first round taking a few games in Oracle was this sort of like were the dogs this gritty pretty mentality and yeah they add it all stars and M._v._p.'s an M._v._p.. Candidates but those guys sort of still fit that mold you're absolutely right. It's just happens that they can now. Go Get your twenty five and thirty which turns out can help you win some games but they're still is Lou Williams and they're still shamet and the Mohawk list. They picked him up in sort of in the mix here of free agency. I think that sort of overlooked a little bit and help them get another pick there as well to then make this Paul George Move Happen Zoo bought should be there. You Know Oh mantras Herald. It's still it's not it's not a shall team by any means and it's a well coached team in Doc rivers and Oh yeah they've got Steve bomberos billions of dollars and maybe they're not done like you said maybe they go and try and find specially another big guy to slip flip in there but it sure looks good on paper with that team you already had and you lose a very promising rookie and Jay Gilda Selig's Zander and go and are fine but that's it and then you had these two guys man. That's that's scary looking. That's scary with Patrick Beverley coming back to. I don't know how you're GONNA score on this team on the perimeter. Yeah that's absolutely right. I wouldn't be shocked if at the end of the regular season the clippers are not in the western conference that quite Leonard who as we saw with the raptors he's GonNa miss some games for load management. It pays off in the long run so surely the clippers will run that back again. I'll Georgia's well is coming back from an injury so maybe he takes a little bit slow at the beginning of the season. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't get ahead of themselves trying to race out for the number one seed night I mean the western conference is a little bit more important but you know there's not a super team out there right now. Everybody's got to stars so maybe it's not quite as incumbent on teams to race out and get that number number one seed the clippers will be ready in the playoffs and they're going to be fine. Everybody likes Lou Williams and Patrick Beverley already mantras Herro as well now. You're throwing in those two M._v._p.. I I can't wait to see what the team looks like. Hopefully this sets that's off clippers rebrand though we gotta get something different maybe go back to the baby blue and orange anything but you know the red white and blue is just doesn't clippers to me. They haven't made that really their identity. They've been adding more black to their uniforms. They're something that that could be upgraded. No doubt and maybe this maybe the spurs that on even if they go with that <hes> I guess it was <hes> it was like that Olympics look with the L. A.. I liked that a lot more definitely. That's a better luck so I don't know. I wish their uniforms are getting better than they were even during the Lob City era but I don't know he's got a hook them up. Yeah that's right. I think you're right. Though that idea of that I wouldn't be putting money down on the clippers to be the number one seed in the West not not with what has happened here too because you know you really could convince yourself that a team more like the jazz. Let's say the rockets of course still in play. Maybe even the Blazers you WanNa talk yourself into that still and then of course the Lakers yeah like you could see a team or to being above above the clippers here they try and first off figure out these pieces a little bit and then Oh yeah the whole thing of like well we just saw at the raptors did and they only play them sixty eighty two games. Maybe we do that with some of our guys here those two guys as well so that that is a good call and I can't remember the last time both conferences felt this wide open like you usually have at least one conference where you're like a lot of this is Lebron. I get it when he was in the east so it was like Yeah Lebron these okay. They're going the file but it's been a long long time here since we've had both conferences are like I don't know who's going to win this. I mean in the East you said Bucks sixers. Maybe the Celtics with Kemba Raptors probably going down a step now but they're still going to be good and then yeah in the West all of these teams. I just listed. I mean this is going to make this very very exciting. I think this is sort of a bet best. BET scenario. Here in Tasmania talked about this when we did our massive free agency recap. It's it's cool that if co I was going to leave he went to the clippers and not the Lakers because it does make the balance feel a little more fair in you agree with that a hundred percent. I I mean I was hoping that he stayed in the Eastern Conference Kawhi just to have balanced between the conferences. That's but the fact that the clippers we're able to come in and take away the one super team. That was really out there formulating I I think it's huge because you know if we would went from a warrior super team instantly into a LAKER super team. Things have changed but it's still kind of the same landscape for the N._B._A.. But what vis now these teams are getting a star and a Co Star. It's not the same as having a big three. Certainly some team will get a big three in the next couple of years but at least for heading into this next season you can talk yourself into ten teams making the finals. Does I would say between the two conferences depending on how matchups how matchups play we saw the blazers make a run to the conference finals this year <hes> not knowing if they were going to be able to show up as well they did in the playoffs. It's all going to be very matchup dependent to see in which teams are in the conference finals. Come playoff time. I'm excited. The League feels completely completely different Yeah No. I think that's right. Who Do you think is the biggest loser from this this big news where Hawaiian P._G.? Go together is the Lakers because they thought they were in the running forum and maybe they were very very close to them. Is that the raptors just 'cause. They lost the finals M._v._p.. Is the thunder who you know the biggest shock of all where Paul George suddenly going to them and saying trade me. I want to go play with Colli. Make this happen or is there someone. I'm even forgetting here at a team. Particular player whoever who do you who do you sort of marked down as the big loser for me. It's between the Lakers and thunder the thunder did an incredible job to recover from being shot by all accounts from what Roy Young as saying I Paul Georgia's trade trade request. They got a huge mother-in-law to pick seven picks basically another couple of players who are getting Shea and <hes> Gallo but they still had to trade Paul George who was just coming off. Maybe the best season of his career pretty healthy throughout throughout the season until his shoulders fell apart were soon. That'll all be good. You don't go into this summer expecting to maybe be in rebuild mode but now it seems like they might be trading Russell Westbrook as well at the very least the ideas on the table and it seemed like I was going. Maybe a thunder for life. After Paul George signed last summer so I got the thunder as a minor loser but they did a really good job of recovering as for the Lakers I do think that it is a bit of a bummer for their fans to go from thinking they had a big. Take three to bring him back. Casey p Ange available e on the very same day. You know the Lakers were thinking we're back baby or the Lakers again. The clippers are always going to be a joke. The Clippers are no longer a joke L._A.. The Lakers they gotta be scrambling a little bit. It's it's GonNa be fun. This is the first time it's going to feel like an actual rivalry. I feel like in that building yeah. It's really cool yeah. I mean we have to the N._B._A.. Like they can't over think this right you gotta give us Clippers Lakers on opening night I would I think I mean I guess Christmas of course could be play but why not opening night for the late game. I mean well by the way we're GONNA be watching a lot more late games here now with two powerhouse teams out in the West with the Lakers in the clubs but man. You got to put that first snake right yeah give it to me. I I give it to me Christmas. They play four times so we can spread it out over the course of the season. I feel like the rafters will have their championship ceremony. That's going to be an early game because they're on the east coast late game. It's gotta be the L._A.. Shoda I I think you're right and so. Do you think you slipped it in there. Do you think the thunder will look to try and move Russell Westbrook. You think that's the right move or even a Stephen Adams just like completely lean in into this. Hey didn't work. I'm with with the P._G.. Westbrook we kept losing in the first round and now we've traded him. We got a bunch of picks and let's see what we can get for Westbrook and and could the possibility. I believe it's you that set it awhile back now but westbrook in Madison Square Garden Jordan. Did you not wants throw that out there my crazy oh I don't know to me I've always kind of thought Westbrook. After Summer Twenty sixteen I thought Westbrook was just going to be a thunder for life but you know Royce down to me seems like a guy who's pretty plugged in and he seems to be hinting at the fact that the thunder are going to want to do a full rebuild. I think atoms is going to be widely shopped around the league and there'll be some takers I mean he's not old age wise but he's been in the N._B._A.. Playing a ton of minutes for a while so I can see them wanting to strike while the iron is hot while they can actually move him before things go really downhill furthermore if you can move Westbrook and you've got the the whole clippers draft basically for the next seven years you're right in rebuild mode on the other hand. Maybe you keep Westbrook. Just play it out for years. See what happens. Maybe he has traded value increases as his contract gets shorter. I don't know it seems weird that you would trade the guy who stayed by. You know that's the N._B._A.. I thought it was crazy. When the Clippers traded Blake Griffin the guy who put them seriously on the map for the first time ever made them not a laughing stock and they traded him and then they trade at the guy they got for him and then suddenly they got to m._v._p.? Level guys so sometimes you can't be sentimental elemental even if it's fun to be sentimental with the players being wielding so much power now in today's game it has made like the N._B._A.. Just feel like a to k like where it's like these you can turn around your franchise so quickly in trading star players for other assets and then flipping those assets into other star players and it just I don't know I guess it's sort of always has happened in the N._B._A.. But it feels like it's just ramped up to a whole other level now where these things just can move so quickly and the identity of your team can just be flipped on its head two or three times in the span of a year the sixers of just done it. I mean the clippers and very little time of done it. I mean it's insane. It's fun but it's still insane. Definitely it feels like we were just watching deandre. Jordan convinced to stay with the clippers by Blake Griffin and Chris Paul. They went to his house and barricaded and now four years later. All of those guys are gone. January Jordan is now supposedly best friends with Kevin Durant so he's he's hadn't to the nets meanwhile. The clippers have an entirely new team despite the fact that the LOB city clippers were the best team they've ever had a feels. A lot like every player is on the table right now. The shorter contracts are helping that the players wanting to make their own decisions visions or helped him that I think it makes teams feel a little less tied to keeping their hometown guys around as long because they know it could end in just a second so yeah. It's a it's an exciting time. It's a bad time to be buying jerseys because you never know when you're gonNA have to get a you want. That's why they got the Jersey Insurance Program Yeah they saw this coming. That's honestly right. The other part two is like the the salaries for these guys are so exorbitant that it's I mean Likud Leonard at one point was looking at a two hundred twenty million dollar contract with the Spurs and then maybe one ninety stay in Toronto and in the end he goes for for four years one forty two in L._A.. Now I mean I guess what I'm getting at. Is it still hundred and forty million dollars. It's like you do get up into these ranges where it's like who who really cares is one hundred and forty million dollars two hundred million dollars. I mean really isn't truly that much difference. I think when you start to get into that type of money I mean I don't know for sure he obviously unsure is looking at the market and the possibilities of just selling more shoes and more new balance and all that but I think that has a play a play on this a little bit as well just the these players go and you know it's like I don't care if it's just not all about the money I want to either. Go home in Kalis case or go and try and save this franchise for whatever reason whatever whatever I mean whatever the reason it's just not money money money well. It's not at least basketball money like you're the players are so much more savvy about other ways that they can build their businesses. You think back just seven years ago twenty twelve Carmelo Anthony was wanted to go home wanting to play for the Knicks force his way out of Denver and he made sure to do it while he was still a Denver Nugget rather than doing it in free agency so that the Knicks could give him that huge contract right. That was just seven years ago if Mello was a free agent going to be going to be a free agent now in two thousand nineteen. He's probably okay waiting a little bit. Maybe the team he can go to is able to build a better team around him because he knows I can go and make another one hundred million dollars. Doing business deals wherever I'm at the basketball money isn't necessarily the biggest thing right now because players are just getting smarter and realizing how to maximize their earning potential. There's a nice little financial term. You know I got yeah. You sound like Darrel Brown there for a second tips tips like that all right well anything else to add again to this this crazy news here that forced us to do an emergency.
