Best Meditation Practices

"Good Morning. It's Tuesday morning June twenty third. And, I'm be Coney Huila from Blue Lotus in crystal lake. Well. I live in crystal, Lake Illinois, and the temple is in Woodstock Illinois. Out Today is Beautiful Day here. It's been a little stormy. How is how is your place? How are you this morning? How's your mind? Getting enough movement. Enough exercise. I don't think I am I have to work on that harder. Too much sitting at the computer. So today. I wanted to start with a question someone had sent. Asking if which is best one thirty minutes sitting day for your meditation practice. Or doing six. Five minute short meditations during the day. And that's a that's A. It's a good question. It's interesting. I think for some people. When they begin, the five minutes might be all. They feel they they can handle. All, they feel they can sit still for. They may not see. They may not be really committed to. The practice and just trying it out so if that's the case. I'd say try the five minutes as often as you can during the day and see how you feel. But. In terms of The real benefits of meditation I think working towards that thirty minute. Time every day is better for us because we are really then able to begin developing the stillness. The saw Mata the the tranquility our bodies. And the slowing down. And allowing us to then access. The the deeper benefits of meditation. And in the long run that's what will be. That's what will be. really wanting more and more of. But I don't think the five minutes if you can scatter those through your day. And give them a good five minutes. I think that's necessarily bad for everyone I I think. There are a lot of people who might start that way. and. If you're doing that, would wholeheartedly, you'll find pretty soon that you want to sit longer than five minutes because you might just be relaxing. And Ready to sit. When the five minutes is up. But if you've if you've committed your schedule to only having five minutes then. Your body's going to be ready to get up even if you're kind of longing to stay. So if you can only do five minutes do that and do as the. Person asking the question mentioned Stu. It may be six times a day. You can do that at work if you took a five minute break every couple of hours and you were able to sit somewhere. But really make your goal to be the thirty minutes because I think that's where the real benefits from our practice will show up in our lives, and the practice practice for herself of moving beyond just the. Surface, but really down into see. What's going on with us in accessing? Accessing deeper. Deeper parts of us. Okay. But that's a great question. What are we doing in the world? He stays at so up in the air. Right into. There's so many questions. I have a an upcoming retreat I'm really feeling. I have really mixed messages about that and. Having have to make a decision today doing it or not, and this one I'm one of the leaders for so it makes a big. It's a big. It's a big decision. And I, know individuals make their own decision about going, but I realized that this is what we're being faced with more and more as things open up. But not very well being opened up. We're in stage four now in the in this part of Illinois. So. We're we have more access to places that were still being. Really encouraged where mask into social distance and we, we see the statistics at all over the world. The numbers are rising again. And we have to make lots of decisions and. Hopefully make the right decision, so that may be a more conservative decision than we'd like to make sometimes. we may not be. There may not be a heavy weight of the majority behind us, but remember we have to. Follow the path. That were laying out for ourselves. We have to be true to what we. Honestly, see going on in the world. And evaluating that. And once in a while. Someone will remind me that you know I'm in that. I'm thinking about other people and then someone. Usually. My daughter will remind me that I'm in I'm old I'm in the high risk area. I'm one of the. Just because of my age. And then they're probably some you know. Some other things that are combined with the age, but just my age puts me into that category of I need to be really

"In a corona virus briefing today the governor New York governor Andrew Cuomo discussed how they will decide to re open the state also adding eighty four new deaths reported yesterday sixty two and hospitals twenty two in nursing homes saying the number though is down from a hundred nine on Thursday and that contingent upon the latest numbers the mid Hudson region could open Tuesday Long Island possibly Wednesday again contingent on the number we talk about re opening and how we proceed with the re opening it's been different in different regions all across the state we have criteria all across the state that applies to every region there is no variance in the criteria region from region there is no political difference there is no local differences the city's beaches will be open this holiday weekend but plenty of restrictions including the swimming and the wet weather by the way maybe helping out and making sure social distancing stays in place saying things hot dogs stand on the boardwalk is open for business and before the rain there were folks like Dave on the boardwalk getting their exercise making the best of the overcast skies for short people were on the beach too but not in the water no swimming allowed this weekend there are no lifeguards on duty but they feel certain if the sun ever comes out this weekend people will go for a dip I can see what people would do it some knuckle heads just to be local heads but I think pretty much everybody knows what to do I think the overcrowding is an issue with this kind of weather it none the less there are official people counters here you'll see them with bright blue T. shirts making sure there's no overcrowding Carol Deoria ten ten wins in Coney Island keep in mind there will be no lifeguard some have criticized the water rules a somewhat confusing Brian Conroy assistant chief of the NYPD's patrol borough Brooklyn south said Thursday you can go in ankle deep Wade in the water surfers however are allowed he said with all this in mind you can gather in small groups governor Cuomo signed an order late Friday allowing people to assemble in groups of as many as ten as long as they stay at least six feet away from other people I wear

New York City beaches open for holiday weekend, no swimming allowed

"A few days at the beach is typically a no brainer for Memorial Day weekend needless to say it is a little bit more complicated this year some beaches are open some are restricting who can go others are restricting what you can do there here to tell us where new Yorkers and new Jerseyans can go to welcome the summer wireless socially distancing is WNYC's Karen Yi and the Jake often hearts of Gothamist Karen Jake hello hi David it it it there is still so much we don't know about cope with nineteen but many epidemiologists say that with social distancing precautions in place heading to the beach does not pose a large threat for people in low risk groups Cameron let's start with you governor Murphy said beaches would re open for the holiday weekend is that right yes that's right so Murphy has said if speech is re opened they need to limit the amount of people on the beach and enforced social distancing so it's really gonna be up to each municipality to decide how to do that and what parts of the beaches or boardwalks to re open so remember not all of the beach is closed during the pandemic some have already re opened and some remain partially close and it's equally as complicated in New York City right Jake governor Cuomo joined New Jersey Connecticut and Delaware to open up the beaches but mayor bill de Blasio technically won't open up city beaches that's right David New York City is fourteen miles on public beaches are technically close what that really means is the beaches are closed to swimming sports picnics many of the social things people go to the beach for but you can still walk sit on the beach or even dip your feet into the water up to your ankles the idea is to discourage nothing Yorkers from going to the beach so it's not over crowded what about beaches on Long Island to Jones beach the Hamptons these are very popular spots for new Yorkers or they could be an option many all island beaches will be open this weekend but they're not exactly rolling out the red carpet for us New York City residents several towns including East Hampton have plans to limit or entirely banned outsiders from their shores that's led to some regional contentions of Nassau County official had to walk back in down and out of towners on Nickerson beach after my colleague Sylvia Chang points out that beaches that receive federal funding must be open to the public the state run beaches like Robert Moses in Jones beach will be open to everyone but they're restricting capacity to fifty percent and governor Cuomo says people could be turned away from parking lot as early as ten AM single parking is always a problem and beaches in both states Karen tell us about the Jersey Shore is parking to be restricted even more than usual yes so again it's gonna come down to home rule it's New Jersey right so it's gonna be up to each town since sandy hook which is run by the National Park Service is limiting parking to fifty percent and so is island beach state park which is run by the state mayors have told me that they're gonna be announcing reminders on loudspeakers there's gonna be civilian ambassadors patrolling the boardwalk there's gonna be a lot of signage but really it's gonna have to come down to trust trust that people will do the right thing and act responsibly what Jake in New York City you have reported on members of the NYPD enforcing social distancing measures in physically aggressive ways in the subways and on city streets can new Yorkers expect a large police presence on the beaches what is the plan for monitoring resource can definitely expect to see a major law enforcement presence this weekend and why PDP stale has been up thirty percent they'll be joined by parks police and thousands of social distancing ambassadors similar to New Jersey if things get too crowded the mayor says they may even put up fencing literally barricading the beaches anyone who tries to swim will be ordered out well in New Jersey some mayors are concerned about not enough police presence on the beaches Cameron that what are you hearing I spoke two point pleasant beach mayor Paul Kenitra and he's very concerned about this so his speech is partially open not the boardwalk so this means that Jenkins beach is also gonna be close but the biggest problem for him and re opening everything is that he says he can't hire the seasonal officers who normally boost up as police force during the summer because all the training academies are closed so for the things that are open for the part of each that is open he says this weekend will be a test run for whether the precautions they've implemented will work we need to see how realistic it is to have our badge checkers wearing the mask and gloves and in hot weather we need to make sure that our lifeguards are able to you know the date people and do things appropriately with the set up that we have one up one down on the lifeguard stands in with the new half the filters for their resuscitation devices so the mayor said there's really no playbook for this I mean everybody is really trying out what works for their particular beach okay so if people can solve the puzzle of finding an open beach what happens when they get there will there be open public restrooms or boardwalk restaurants open for food pickup so curbside pickup is allowed for nonessential businesses take out is going to continue for restaurants a New Jersey recently allowed to go cocktails on the public restroom issue again that's going to depend on the town whether they decide to open those or how they apply limits to that the one thing that the state is encouraging is that everyone wear a mask right and it's the same thing in New York there will be some to go through the options available re sparked beaches are is open many of the vendors on Coney Island and they'll be some bathrooms and Porta potties starting this weekend and finally you keep in mind the water's going to be fifty five degrees not exactly swimming weather even if you are out yeah I think that's gonna keep a lot of people out of the water we'll have to hear much more about how it goes this weekend WNYC's Karen Yi and the Gothamist reporter Jake often hearts thank you for joining us thanks

Coronavirus News: With NYC beaches closed, Nassau County beach will be resident-only

"With the mayor declaring New York City beaches closed for Memorial Day weekend and beyond some people in the city may have their sights set on the beaches of Long Island but it sounds your own words Jones reports city folk will not be welcome on many of those speeches Nickerson beach on the south shore will be open this weekend but only to Nassau County residents county exactly lower current we've decided to you know for the interest of the health and safety of our residents to just limit people who go to napa county residents instead officials have also voted to keep their town beaches residents only and current expects other towns to follow suit mayor de Blasio a bit disappointed at the decision we can't open our beaches we cannot take the chance of a huge number of people congregating together I mean look at Coney Island on typical beach weekend other residents only ban does not affect state run Jones beach which will be open at fifty percent

Should I create a new company for my product idea?

"Hi this is cody. Howard from Boise. Idaho and I've been listening to this show since the very beginning exciting to say I'm a recent side. Hustle is the route podcast rusty creatives philanthropists entrepreneurs and business leaders about finding the path to a more filling life and actually took me around eighteen months of analysis paralysis and getting over the fear of failed past projects to record the first episode. And actually get something out there. But what I've discovered they're out this process. It's actually very common for people like me who are wanting to start a project or a side hustle and now working on a fear journal to help ambitious people gain perspective on their fierce and move from that place of analysis paralysis and into action. Which leads me to my question. My question is because I do not have a large audience or authority in the space is a better to create a separate site and brand altogether for ejected consumer products or fear Journal and keep it separate from the podcast or combined them from the start. Thanks for listening and I can't wait to hear your input. Keep up the great work everybody coney. What's up man? Thank you so much for listening from the beginning. Wow that was twelve hundred twenty two days ago. Amazing congratulations as well on getting over the fear of failed past projects. Indeed you are not unique in that way as I said pretty much. Everyone struggles with this one way or another. I certainly have so the fear Journal. Sounds like an interesting idea. Definitely seems like something for anybody with a creative project. Actually not even just entrepreneurship side hustling but anybody who has a dream and wants to make something like we all struggle with these kinds of issues to some extent or another so as to this question about whether you should create a separate site and brand or essentially kind of integrate them. Combine them. So I think that there's not a right or wrong answer necessarily even if you made a separate brand and website. I assume you would promote the journal on the podcast which you should but my inclination actually based on. What you say is that it's better for you to do that. Second option and combine it from the start and the reason is because you say you don't have large audience but presumably you're trying to grow an audience around the podcast. So why not tie them together? Somehow you know in fact why not involve the listeners in the creation process tell them your vision share the story as it evolves and then if pure journal is successful well it's now linked to the podcast which is not a bad thing at all and if it's really successful than it can go off and become its own brand which is also an ideal outcome so it just seems to me that way doing the integration. Brian trying to build two separate brands from the ground up at the same time. So that's what I think. Let me know how it goes. I would love to see this journal whenever it's ready.

Irina Falconi on Life as a Tennis Pro in the Coronavirus Era

"I have. Nfl Coney as you guys know. She's a w shape pro hugely affected by the suspension We just got announced on Monday morning. That there's no w Ta play until May At at this point now the way things are going I mean I'm in New York Arenas in Orlando I'm expecting that to be pushed back more Irene out. Let's start with. What is your life like these days? Well to be honest I just got back from Sam's Club where I was able to stock on quite a bit of dried and canned goods Just because I've been hearing whispers and rumors about actual You know we're probably going to end up getting quarantined in our own homes So if that's the case I mean we're just trying to prepare ourselves early. We're not really coming contact with anyone other than people that live in the house So thankfully there is lots of trails outside that you're able to go out and no run sprint. Do Whatever You can to kind of keep your fitness up because I mean as of now as of last night The USCCA center which is only five minutes away. Where I usually train it's close. It's completely shut out. Shut down and locked up so unless you actually go to some public courts public facilities where you're not really hitting with anyone that has corona virus It's kind of hard right now and The thing is you don't WanNa be hitting too early. You don't want to peak too early since as of now it's May second. It can be even further than that so it might just be very light hitting if that for the next couple weeks but just maintaining fitness. I think is the most important thing and thankfully. My fiance built a boxing gym in the garage. So we are good to go on that on that front but Tom Yeah. You are lucky to have that because I think a lot of a lot of players will be desperate for space and room if they live in an apartment especially you have a Nice House. You have that garage. I mean that there is some positives and all this chaos when all I started unfolding in Indian Wells cancelled and all this was happening and it was like okay might be four to six weeks. Spent my initial thought was like oh well okay look. Income is obviously a problem for players. But sometimes you guys have injuries that last four to six weeks. Sometimes you have illnesses that last two to four weeks in the grand scheme of things. It doesn't seem like a very big chunk of time but now that things escalated so severely it could be three months could be six months it could be. I don't know and that's the hard part is when you're sick and injured you kind of have somewhat of an idea like hey. I'm working towards this goal now. It's like I'm working towards what? Yeah that's the other thing because for example. Let's say you do have six weeks of where you're trying to rehab from an injury. You have the option if you want to go somewhere if you WANNA go and travel if you WANNA go just go to the beach for a couple of days or anything like that. You have that luxury if you want it now in this case it's like Oh man. Flights to Costa Rica and Ecuador in Puerto Rico are like less than one hundred dollars. It's so tempting to want to go out and travel. But you can't so in a sense you know a lot of tennis players. We tend to complain that the season is long. It's very very You know it's it's tough on the body So the fact that we have this time to kind of just almost regroup. It's weird time in the year because it season just kinda started But Yeah I think it's just it's very very weird. I don't think that there's another word to put it another word that you can really describe it because I mean with the Olympics coming up I mean I'm in a situation where I have a special ranking so does that mean that my special ranking Kinda freezes because once I start my first tournament I only have a year to use up all my special ranking tournaments. So that's another thing that we're just have absolutely no clue whatsoever and with the Olympics. Coming up I mean. Do we know whether that's GonNa Happen? I mean a lot of girls are just in limbo right now. It's never a good place to be in when you're uncertain So as of now I'm just taking it day by day to be honest. I'm just enjoying the crap out of it. There's no other way to see it. You just have to see it as an opportunity And one of the things that you know you can do is Ago Christiane was posting different. Things that you can kind of do while you're in this state and You know whether it's facetime ing with people that you probably haven't talked to in a while. Learning new hobby cleaning house from you know had to tell there. There's a lot of things that can be done during this time. So I think that if you go about it the right way you can see it as a very positive thing whether it's for me whether for the world I think we just have to see it in a positive light. You'd have some positive spin on this thing. It's nice to hear but it's also I. You mentioned Christiaan heff players been talking a lot of you guys been communicating with each other. A Lot I know you're probably not hanging out a lot but has there been a conversation between you guys. I mean at the end of the day. I think a lot of the players are just kind of Speaking the same boys right now in unison which is suffering Soleil. Y'All do not go and be around other people do not put yourself at risk and do not put others at risk So I think we're all trying to find ways on how to have the new ways to work out at home because that's pretty much. What a lot of players are doing. I know I was speaking to Madison and she said. Hey We got some board games you know. So there's that so yeah. I mean there's there's a lot to do and I think a lot of players I mean it's that uncertainty but I have a feeling that they're gonNA come back pretty

Richard Ashby on working with America's young tennis talent

"Guest for this episode? Richard Ashby Richard. Welcome thank you. Thanks for having me. Richard Works here at the. Usda national campus. Richard tells a little brief bio about yourself then working for the for sixteen years before that coached on my own little bit privately with pros and Juniors Worked in some academies before that and so. That's my coaching background played. Junior Tennis Played College University of South Carolina. That's basically playing background played a little bit of pro after college but not that successful so onto coaching. That's relatable So what players. What age group are you targeting right now? Do you work with a specific group. Your work with the fourteen hundred girls. I'm here at the national campus. So we bring kids for camps primarily camps training weeks. We don't do a lot of traveling with kids that age. We don't have them come in. For long periods of time they usually come in for a week or two weeks of training And we work with their coaches. So we get the information back to the coaches things that we worked on here things that we see we go to tournaments have a chance to watch him play there and hopefully see them improving on things have a chance to talk to their coaches about things. We're seeing a lot easier when it's you know live where you're watching something and talking with the coach so the tournaments. It's a great option to do that. With coaches so you've been working with the USA for sixteen years. Have you been with the girls? Fourteen and under age single year no Started two thousand three so that first year and the next year we're primarily with Like junior pros so kids basically seventeen to eighteen sixteen eighteen and did that for a couple of years and then in two thousand and five started with the kids born in Nineteen ninety-one that age group so worked with an age group for few years through Two thousand eight then two thousand nine. I started with twelve and unders Jade Louise and other coach. I used to work with age group and He actually started working with kids older. So I Essentially switch places with him so from two thousand nine assorted with twelve and under and kind of grown to thirteen and then fourteen and fourteen under for last few years. Do some name. What are some players you've worked with? Amanda Anisimov was slow and Stevens. Cannon CICI Bellis Falconi yes all those players So yeah very fortunate. When we moved to we moved to Boca it was a good location. Had A lot of good players in the area so players Would come through in practice. We were able to set up a program where they're younger players. Come out and you know not every day Amanda I came out like once a week when she was younger Always worked with her. Dad was her coach. So work with her Same with Sonya and We did we actually had a pretty good set-up there where they in the morning to drilling and then the afternoons do match play and we'd be able to have kids kind of all levels. Sometimes older kids coming out in the afternoon but Amanda and Sonia. You know where kids at did that from pretty much. The beginning Sloan. I've done very little with her. I mean it's mostly been Camps or a little bit of training and Let's see who else has been out of there You know so. Yeah Irena Hell Coney for sure. Was there So when I worked with a ninety one group Sorry come and play matches Actually tell Ya arena like the first candidate when we were in key Biscayne arena. It's actually in the camp along with Alli Risk. So Mallory burdette there. You go so a bunch of kids That a moved on to play pros which is great. You know so. That's one of the things. I'm fortunate. I got to work with kids. That are the best in the country so you know a lot of them are going to be successful so I was actually mentioning that to see the other day. We were watching you practice with one of the girls. I don't I can't remember her name but she's pretty good. And I made a comment to see see I was like. Did you work with coach? Richard Like Yeah. I did and I was like. That's unbelievable when I was. I believe it was thirteen or something. I was still living in New York and I got this letter from the USDA. Do you WanNa do this. Camp Key Biscayne and sure enough it was with Alison riske Madison Bengal Whom all our top seventy have been top seventy players. It's not very common for a coach to be able to have that much of an impact on so many players that end up being professional. What is it that you have that makes that possible GonNa Know How much it is me. It's definitely good system where you know. We got a chance to see young players at an early age. I remember the first camp she came to. She was not the best. One they're You're maybe in the middle of the pack She had come to the some of the similar things she has. Now you know just the excitement. She always brings the cord and everything. So that hasn't changed. You know she's just gotten better as it's gone along so You know to be to be honest. Yeah I mean I enjoy helping the kids and you know if anything the you know. Try as much as possible for them to enjoy it as well and to try to guide them. I guess for game for the future. Now you know that's up to them to pile of things but You know most of those kids like I say we're good when they got there and you know they've gotten better they've gone long moved on to other coaches and everything so successful pretty popular name is big names that have come through the. Ashby system for all those players though that that you worked with. That didn't make it. Can you tell the difference between someone like an Anisimov an Kenan? Can you see or that early on the? Hey this kid's something different or is it more of quantity and then figuring out one or two that rice the top. There are many kids that I thought were going to be very very good. Maybe even better than those guys and they ended up not being ended up being good tennis players. But not you know making it into the pros. you know so. I've learned as gone along that. I'm not a very good predictor so We try not to pick try to just have lots of players coming through as much as possible and try to treat. Treat them all in a way that this is what you need to do to be great so they have that chance some apply while some were going to be great no matter what we did but Try to treat all the players. A came to come through with the idea that you know. Look at your game now and where do you WanNa go if you want to be a pro these things you to address and unfortunately getting to see them? When they're young twelve thirteen fourteen. They have a chance to you. Know make make those adjustments if they can. So you know the the ones that came in. Maybe I thought were really good and ended up not being so good as far as results. I think. That's just how tough the sport is. You know it's I remember the stout that somebody was saying that basically every year the top one hundred seventy six jobs available something like that. We're on the women's side so you know you have to be that good that you're going to take someone's job who's seventy in the world and that's not easy so many of these guys are good players but you know it's just not that easy to actually be a

Top Day Trip Destinations from Tokyo

"We spoke we were talking about getting in and out of Tokyo some of the things to do and Tokyo and we kinda hinted at other areas that we could explore the which are either day-trips outside of Tokyo or areas. That are arranged getaways. Exactly exactly so usually Tokyo is a good hub to start from. It's accessible you can get in and out of IT EASY. Great hotels lots of stuff to do. But if you're adventurous and you WANNA head on outside of Tokyo. There's some really cool places at Tokyo when you go to Japan right well. Yeah I mean there's there's plenty to do and to do in Tokyo but if time allows exactly so we wanted to share with your couple of short trips that you can easily take you in and out of a Tokyo and we're GonNa hit you know several of those cities so last we talked we were talking about getting around via Jr. the Japanese rail and within Tokyo even from all the major airports you can get into Tokyo central really really easily. And when you hit stations like Tokyo station or even Shinjuku or Yokohama. There are Shinkon San or the the bullet trains that can take you to all other parts of Japan. And so we're gonNA talk about you. Know How you cruise around from Tokyo to other places using the railroad jerry. Easy probably the most convenient way to do it. Is Well well. I've always taken a car over my grandpa drove or my dad. Or however you remember Susan when we've traveled as family that we've always kind of jumped on. We have a car as well but Wisconsin took the Shinkansen to bigger family right so anyway so the first one that we WANNA hit. This is the city call. Hakuna I'm sure a lot of people have seen this word on a guidebooks more from friends or people who's been there. It's a very popular destination. It's an easy weekend getaway in Japan when we talk about Hakuna. Japanese people have to hit hot spring over very well known area. It's a it's a hot spring resort area it right and then you can see a beautiful Mount Fuji. Oh my gosh now. In good reason why. That's the center. Excuse me hot. Spring areas because Mount Fuji is there and IT'S A. It's still a dorm but it's an active volcano if you will. It's the tallest in Japan that is correct. Fuji IS THE HIGHEST VOLCANO IN JAPAN. At over three thousand seven hundred meters or twelve thousand feet and is the second highest volcano in an oven island in all of Asia. I'm an international treasury. Yes absolutely in. It is one of the more prominent symbols of Japan. Yes Yup it's so pretty and it's worth going. Who's the Hukou on Easel National Park Now? I sound very Japanese. It's west of Tokyo. If you look at the map of Japan right right and it takes about eighty five minutes an hour and a half or two hours if you take a probably the easiest way you WanNa take a train is by Docu or Docu. Od A K Y you railway docu railway operates. It runs between Tokyo Shinjuku Station to GonNa Yumoto station. Okay and one way journey. I think there are a couple of different types of nanny. It's a limited express right right and then the other one is a little bit slower Express trains coupon right. But I think it's like a little bit over my two thousand. Three hundred men check the rate. You know the latest one but It's it's a very reasonable and you can also take a bus in like I said I when I was younger. We always just drove. Takes a while on the traffic begins. We always travel during the holiday seasons. Four hours you know five hours Roy Moore. I know so. We highly recommend that. It's this whole amount area. The Hukou owner area in capacity hakuna shrine. Which is a Shinto shrine. And it's just a there are tons of hot springs. The food is great is easy access from Tokyo. I really really highly recommended such a pretty area to visit and there's such a variety of things to do over there as well. I mean not only do you have this magnificent view of famous Mount Fuji? I mean on a clear day. Perhaps you can see Mount Fuji and the distance from Tokyo. It is southwest of Tokyo. Roughly about one hundred kilometers southwest to Tokyo and again it dominates the western Side of the prefecture there. But when you get up towards it and you can see it in all its majestic beauty. It's quite breathtaking. Very lovely so just a few things. You know that I can point out the fun things to do the top attractions in Hukou Hukou hot springs. Oh my gosh is there are a lot of them so you like hot springs. I think it's like a must do and in from our talks about The shoe were big fans of average super clean. It's the scenery that surrounds hot springs and the hospitality. And it's multi course. Meal comes within. It's nothing like you know our Western style. Spa It's a very different immersive experiences. Definitely some you should check out. Troy experienced one hundred percent and other attractions. The other one is a good unease very very famous e you can also smell the so far though soul. I but it's the it's a crater created by the last major eruption of Mount Hakuna and one of the interesting thing is they sell these eggs as you see them everywhere throw in. It's called healthy eggs and and they believe it adds seven years to your life if you eat eggs about if you want to give a shot. Hey who can? Who can't use another seven years right? Come on yeah but but Walker done is actually quite a site. The big crater. It's interesting yeah. It's really quite something and when the weather is nice spring summertime fall is beautiful with leaves changing color one about lake. Ashi no go A. S. H. I. N. O. K. O. R. She no-go it's a lake. It's it's a Caldera Lake. It's just a picturesque. You get a beautiful view of Mount Fuji. You when you go there. There are a lot of like a boat trips that you can take. That's another run on. Luger attraction there that if you go to coney area I I really recommend that as one of the attractions you can go and check it out. Oh I haven't mentioned the the very famous Hakone Shrine Omega. Gosh Yes oh my God. This is so famous you need to go check it out right. It's it said it's located at the end of the lake. Ashi NOCCO that I just talked about It's in a forested area. You see lanterns and Tori literally you gauge. The regular dance right. Yeah it marks the entrance to the shrine And it's pretty impressive. That's really pretty absolutely and just to see those those gates as you know because I don't know something about that. It just reminds me of Japan. We've seen them in different shrines and stuff like that. Oh my God. Spectacular blends in with the scenery in a bill. Leads you to the entrance of the shrines. And it's just it's absolutely spectacular to

"Hello and welcome to citation needed live in New York it's the podcast where we choose a subject read a single article about it on Wikipedia and pretend we're experts because this is the Internet Yep that's how it works now I'm Eli Bosnich and I'll be your ringmaster but had some freaks to include in the Ballyhoo first up the hypodermic needles to my child like feet see so and no well I mean the Dow wasn't working so I go to the person right any land keep telling you go between the toes with them it's between toews not I also joining us tonight two men who were disappointed when they found out this essay had nothing to do with the FBI heave and Tom We got no applause at all when you introduced us. I just want to point that out take note take note James Komi needs a theme park it Colmey island so basically Gitmo right yeah so basically coney island I I don't I don't trust the FBI or the CIA or the NSA pretty much anything to do with intelligence escapes me I think now before we begin tonight would like to take a moment to thank our patrons hey what's your name Mike Thank you a- and if you'd like to join me six mics ranks and if you'd like it's going to be ended at great and if you'd like to join Mike's Ranks be sure to stick around until the end of the show and without the way tell us what person place in concept phenomenon or event would be talking about today all right get excited Brooklyn people people acts and we're GONNA be talking about a wonderful place that makes your borough the amazing that it really is coney fucking island and Tom Your quest for fried dough ended up in an essay this time are you ready to powder that sugar naive. I have no idea what that means I'm happy to review an essay though I don't all right so what is coney island all right well Alan is a ridiculous little spit of Peninsula that has become synonymous with a special brand of New York Americana and while I've never been there because I hear it full of poor people it's gross it has an amazing history of utterly bizarre theme parks and attractions that should one hundred percent make you uncomfortable people it's basically like a really racist equal to Action Park and I want to start by quoting this article from worker one thousand nine hundred ninety eight gives a really nice flavor to set the scene for is here's the quote Coney Island is the same as important as ever for those making the best of the summer it presents. The world's unlovely massive the contents of the melting pot right out on display the Cross is of the world and bortles every responsible person should be hell to march the length of it once a year to see who is entitled to vote for mayor eh amazing world's unluckiest massive humanity is directly taken from every yelp review of a Walmart in India by the way there's a her people there that cancel the Medicare for all vote from there. Rascal skiers up yeah we're going to go with Medicare for all who can tell me how many Congressmen there are hey ally question can you name your congressman one congressman the one you have district New Jersey Mr Man Kim nailed it nailed it all right so the first the amusement parks is a special little something called Sea Lion Park Sea Lion Park was the first enclosed amusement park where the park itself and not just the attractions required the entry fee I guess amusement used to strictly car affair for this until a guy named Paul Bolton changed everything before boiling all the rides at the amusement park we're individual usually owned and operated so this meant that in one park you might have a toothless carney running a cobbled together uninspected late nineteenth century gravity power death slide and then thirty years away an entirely different equally unqualified committee carrier would have his own homemade drowning hazard he dreamed up and Manny back in the back yard what the slide be powered by if not gravity. I'm just curious okay this is this is my essay. That's we edit we had four weeks for at it's okay fine it wasn't until Boynton came along and decide to put the theme theme park that everything changed and the thing by the way was money this theme was also sea lions the extremely depressing Chimera of like William Bar and the penguin from Batman theme park or so Tom You just described every pair I've ever been to with the carriers and the death power gravity slide or whatever I don't know that blatant changed anything it's very very possible but we gotTa talk right and quick digression on him not just the inventor of taking your money to walk into the place before you had the fun yet boy was already famous for his river floating MM suits so this is his stick he would done an inflatable rubber suit fill its various bladders air and then float down rivers human tired it was basically like a lazy river in a to go container and still somehow everywhere this guy goes he's greeted by these massive cheering crowds he must have realized from this just how starved late nineteenth century miracle was for entertainment so we started sea lion park in eighteen ninety-five anything that could be done equally well by a sack of potatoes should for celebrity and we propellant in his superstardom entire families because one member was on a sex tape one time I'll take waterwings man yeah potatoes mentally ill plead not there's a lot of people wanNA watch conde fuck a sack of potatoes more than I would have guessed right now at twenty six dollars without all right so what delights in wonders away to the gawking masses see lion park well see lines obviously that's in the name so also the water shoot so the water shoot was every stupid fucking log ride you've ever been on it's basically just like a flat bottom boat that went down the ramp and into a pool of water and then skimmed across the surface so not that big a deal so boy sometimes filter boat with the occasional lion or bear or small elephants to spice it up I guess well well the animals the animals they even had their own special line to get on the rides it was it was called zoo q that's sharing for me yeah audience at home everyone was really impressed with that uh-huh book you should have come to the show yeah we held up signs that said shits everybody well unhandy rebus puzzle that's what I was looking I like to use the elephants in that ride though each picture and elephant cutting in front of the make a wish kid whenever you're fucking faking it we all know you're faking that's what everyone in the other line is thinking they all had dark thoughts you all didn't think that about the with like diabetes and Fast Line fuck off yes you you're all liars diabetes afoot for the attention of your foot and we'll talk to you could see that he also had built a roller coaster called and I love the fucking aimless thing flip flap railway right and this actually had a inverting loop in it and a drop of about twenty meters but he had a cancel the ride because it was too dangerous though to their credit they did test the coaster ahead of time with sandbags and monkeys at the same time it's hard to fill the sandbag with the monkeys right but it's a lot of fun I didn't say it wasn't worth it. this ride was famous for producing extreme forces on the writers as many as twelve g which this minute also just a lot of whiplash just for reference your fighter pilots Max out around nine flip flap is the money and he bought topsy who you might remember from Heath Super Oh baby it's only eight chaptered only eight years after opening in Nineteen Oh three sea lion park closed and everyone packed up and went home never attend adding to turn Brooklyn's foot into a money making venture if only because next up is steeplechase park and this would turn out to be longest lasting of the three great coney island amusement parks it's founder was George till you and he founded steeplechase on the idea that if you entertain people rather than dressed like a he huge.
