Fresh update on "clemson" discussed on NHL: Blackhawks vs. Capitals

"It didn't. And Jim's focus is just on football. James focuses on how to beat Ohio State. Jim's focuses on how to win the Big 10. And I don't know if he's even concerned about whether you could have a full big house or not when they play home games when Michigan plays home games, I don't even know I just think that he just focused on winning. And so when we put coaches on these these platforms to talk about, well what college football looked like amid you know the Corona virus, and it sounds like that. It sounds like Davos, Sweeney trying to talk about this. Clemson head coach. How it just comes across just, you know, so football centric or my gun Deep Oklahoma State In still water where he's there, and he's just again. It's not about Everything is not about football. It's gotta be about the players is going to be about life and being healthy. And and so Good old Iran. The issue had coached. They just won the national championship last year at Oh, Giron. Is not ready to give up the 2020 season. Just listen to what he tells Vice President Mike Pence. What he said was and I know it's if you know, have a tear for it for that occasion sound that New Orleans sound that Louisiana sound. He just he said. This, he says, I don't think that we can take this away from the players. Take this away from our state in our country. We need football. This is what the defending national championship coach said. Football is the lifeblood of our country. In my opinion, it gets everything going. It gets the economy going. The economy of Baton Rouge, the economy on the state of Louisiana. And so, having said All of that issue is facing an upward battle in the fight against Corbett, 19 The state recorded its second straight day of more than 2000 new cases today. That's 80 for over 84,000 cases, 14 new deaths reported. I'm not giving you a doom and gloom scenario because that's not the topic tonight. What I'm saying is is that Coach shows says that we need football. Go tigers. He says that we need football and you don't take you can take this away from the players. You know? Who's taking anything away from the players. This is life and death right now, especially in the state of Louisiana. And so there is that owes around there with Vice President Mike Pence. And The SEC, along with a few other conferences are just trying to figure out this was the A. C C on the Big 12. We're trying to figure out well. Await. The Big 10 says that were just on ly going to travel to our conference games in the Pac 12 just our conference games. And so the teams in the South of like Ah Yeah, well, she'll figure it out. Even though this is something that's ongoing. We're going through a second wave of this in some places in our country. A bigger topic, though, is not political. The bigger topic is Is it owes Iran right? Or is he wrong? When he says that football is the lifeblood of our country. It's everything going the economy going Baton Rouge? Yeah, I'm sure that's in that state and across a lot of places, Yes. But when he says, I don't think that we could take this away from these players taken away from our state in our country. We need football. Do we need football? 312332 ESPN 3323776 Our phone number When you hear what hardball was saying, and trying to figure out a way to get around. Talking about covert 19 and saying that sports did not sports is not the reason why there's Coben 19 and when you hear Coach Orgeron. Alice. You say that that we need football to it. What is more important in your life, sports might be more important than someone else's life. If that's the case, I want you to tell me that Wait. We get Teo sensitive topics about what's going on in our country. Don't I look as a judge free just a judgment free zone and the reason why is because you and I are both sports fans. And you and I are going to be seen baseball. I don't know if it's going to be a full 60 games, but we're gonna be seeing a baseball here right around the corner. And I want to know just From your standpoint as a sports fan. Is that all drawn right? The coach from L s U Write to do we need football. Is he right or wrong about that? He says. We need football. Do we need football? I'd like to see football, but do we need it? Is football, the lifeblood of our country that we've needed right now amongst this pandemic. Do you need it? I just want to get your thoughts. And if it's Yes, I just want you to be expressed yourself if it's no, I definitely want to hear your thoughts. But when old Ron says, we need football And football is the lifeblood of our country. Well, yeah, I mean, that's a lot of people would say that and some would say baseball. Some was a soccer. Some would say basketball. Whatever your flavor is when it comes to sports. But do we need football? That's the question and guess what The NFL needs to address this pretty soon here on whether or not we're going to have football on time in the regular season. And save your college football in the South. So.

Surging US virus cases raise fear that progress is slipping

"Let's talk about alarming surges in corona virus cases across the United States yeah you know the U. A Pandemic Dahhhling, Do You Know What That Means?!

"Hello everybody welcome back to the body. Serve Jonathan and I'm James. His I told you had a bit of a surprise for you at the start. Those, Where we're watching the great, we've got one episode left and it's filled with Hazaras. That is the catchphrase. We are in the middle of pride month, and before we get into the show, a special shot and thanks to Tom Humber stone who has been or designer over the years for? Various artwork that you may see associated with the body serve, and he's given the body serve a pride makeover, so we've updated all of our various socials and websites, and you can have a look at what he did there. We think it's just swell, so thank you talk so there's been a lot of news this week. Tennis's not exactly back in full swing, but it is apparently coming soon. The plans are in place for the US Open Roland Garros and for the WPA of pretty full fall. Schedule this to happen in one day. Basically. You wake up before i. do so when I got up. We'll tell you when that was or when that typically is. Knows a lot for me to catch up on. It took a while took like full day very like I had a a grasp of what was going on, and what it felt like to me, was one domino started, and then everybody was like damn. Yes, so the USDA teased a little bit earlier in the week that they were primed to go ahead than a big announcement was coming pending government approval we had heard rumors about the zoom calls this huge. ATP Zoom Com that no Ruben was talking about on the behind the rocket podcast, criticizing Novak Djokovic for allegedly not being there, so we knew there were is nothing alleged about to. He was not okay. The whole point university I don't WanNa get spread cheated. You know everybody's got to be charted once in a while. The so there were there were murmurs throughout the week, but. Wednesday at ten am. The US Open holds a press conference in the empty and cavernous. Arthur ash stadium. Stacey Allaster is there? They have a few other folks on court physician. Mc I forgot who that was. Sorry. My reporting skills are just not up to snuff over the the tennis break, but it was very much a public relations event. There were a lot of sport reporters on zoom. So after the the press conference happened, or after the main presentation happened, there were individual questions by. Reporters who they showed on zoom, and when we found out that there wouldn't be media physically on site. We got the sense that this, too was a trial run for what the media access will be at the actual tournament where presumably players will be interviewed via zoom. Right, so the big announcement as I'm sure you've already heard that the US Open will go ahead. As planned in the the same part of the calendar in New, York City at Billie Jean, King National Tennis Centre with no spectators, and with a lot of health provision in place, but listen I'm still surprised that they're going full steam ahead. I'm still extremely skeptical and especially what we're seeing now in. Clemson University for example. was. At twenty three members of the football team tested positive for COVID. The exploding numbers and Florida Arizona California baseball has affected right now. Golf is affected right now pretty much every sport that you've seen. Attempts to restart has been affected in one way or another in tennis. Not going to be immune to that and we'll get to why. We think that that's the case based on what's been going on overseas. Break so I? Guess I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's just go through the actual news first, and then we can comment on it as part of this abbreviated summer schedule, or there will be the Washington D. C.. C. Tournament, the city open held in DC, starting August fourteenth for the men I. Don't think we have heard about the possibility of a winds tournament yet, but I believe it's being discussed because it's typically joint event, right, it's not currently in the WTO calendar, but apparently that is still open, then the western and southern open. That is normally in Cincinnati will be held in New York City the week before the US Open. And then the US Open and because Cincinnati is moving to new. York. That means that there will be no qualifying. For the US Open because typically the week leading into the Grand Slam in New, York, city. It's this. It's this week long. Qualifying Extravaganza pretty much and so with Cincinnati playing that there's no room for qualifying

Bakari Sellers talks about the death of George Floyd

"Are really looking forward to the next gas considering all the things that have transpired especially up in Minneapolis. Our next guest. We just played a clip from CNN. This morning is Bakari sellers. Who grew up in the State of South Carolina? His father a noted civil rights pioneer. He's been very close to the South Carolina Program Practicing Law for many many years and continuing to to this day in Colombia. And as we say hello to Macari I want to ask him about Certainly the news of the day but we also want to mention for just a second to his brand new book that came out the other day my vanishing country Cari sellers. Thank you very very much for joining us. It's great to have you on the program. Man I I love your show Thankful for this platform and thank you for having me today on. What is a a truly tough day for most of us in this great country? I WanNa talk about that but I just wanted hug for a second. About what compelled you and really push you to writing this book. I mean you're still very young man usually Mars for old decrepit people like me but still on your your early thirties. I'm really interested in how you got to this point. Yeah so you know I. I wanted to write a political book and I'll be honest which Paul that no one wanted to buy it. And so when I sat down and talked about my story coming from the Orangeburg massacre in February eighth to sixty eight where my father was shot. subsequently imprison all the officers. Who fired shots into? The group of students were charged and found guilty. Three young men died in Smith. Samuel eminent Delano Middleton My father was shot and imprisoned. I chronicled that all the way through my rise to being young black elected official in the country. All the way through Charleston South Carolina. Where I lost my good friend Clemente. I'm in the Charleston massacre and so I just highlight the ups and downs and the trauma that comes along with being a person of color and what I the reason I wrote. This book is so that we could All have some sense of understanding so we begin to have conversations about healing this country And you know your book comes out during a pandemic and it also comes out around the death of Ahmad. Aubrey the desktop Brianna Taylor. Now we had this death in Minneapolis. And so I think it's an evergreen book and You know it's a discussion. It's difficult but necessary to have the car. It's it's so easy for all of us to talk about. No one should act this way but I wanNA get deeper because in watching what you did this morning and really knowing you quite well and hearing you speak out on so many other issues. I really want you to get to the heart of the matter here. this is bigger than than an isolated incident in. Minneapolis or Georgia or somewhere else. Is it not it is and you know. It's it's not just myself but you see you see all these athletes you see Lebron James of the world you see. I'm all the list of NBA players goes far and wide and even young college athletes are taking span. Because Y- for me personally it's about what do I tell my black children in this country and I know a lot of your listeners are like here we go again a. Why are we going down this path? But it's the fact that I have to have conversations with children that others do not and you know the crime that was Allegedly committed was forgery of a twenty dollar bill. He didn't even know that there's evidence to say he didn't even know that the twenty dollar bill was fake But regardless the penalty should not be a death penalty crime and so now I have a fifteen year. Old Daughter should be fifteen on June first. Who is about to Get her permit. You wouldn't do. I tell her. What do I teach her? I'm raising twins that are seventeen months old and one is a boy stokely. What do I tell him in? So that pain and this is not new You know it goes back to Emmett. Till and mega rivers Jimmy Jackson in the Orangeburg massacre the massacre on the campus of Jesse Jackson State in Kent State all the way through The recent incidents that we've had and so the question is when will it stop and I you know. I think that we have to begin to have difficult conversations in this country and some people don't want to have but I'm pressing forward to make to let people know that there is a real pain in this country and and there's painful by a lot of people today particularly black people in this country and we have to hear that pain. He wrote the other day. Being Black in America is almost perpetual state of grieving. I I know I know you well enough to understand but I want you to explain to to those out there and your political commentator. You're you're you know what I'm referring to. How do you explain that to the rest of us? You know. I I say that before you turn me off turn me down I say? Why don't you turn me up and let's have a conversation? Where is listening and understand and I come from a place where my father was literally shot a law enforcement and I had the utmost respect for law enforcement officers. My that was literally shot. My father was taken away from my family because he was actually arrested. For that night I father became the first and only one man riot in the history of this country. He was charged tried and convicted of rioting because he was a member of the Civil Rights Organization. They denied bond and they housed them on death row. My mother had to carry my sister my oldest sister their oldest child. She carried and gave birth while my father was in prison. And so when you talk about that trauma that emerged from my father went through the burden of being a black man in the south with felony. You carry all of that. And I'd had a great deal of success in my life and my job is to make sure that others are able to get access to those blessings as well and then I lived through the Charleston massacre. Paul like my good friend. Clemente painting he was was murdered in Bible. Study You know he let somebody come into his church. He set them beside him and he was shot in the net. And so when you think about all of these things and you think about the fact that I'm now living for them and there's no one there's absolutely no one in their right mind. They can lie to you. They can call in today until you that amount all day deserve today. Brianna Taylor. She was an emt worker. They served been no knock warrant. Went in and shot her and they can't tell you. The George Minneapolis deserved I either. And so that is what I'm saying. We have to begin to understand the reasons why and before you turn the conversations like this down. Let's turn them up. And let's have an honest conversation about how we move forward to broaden this because you of all people know it's twenty twenty. The political season never ends and a lot of people bacar just already made up their mind not so much the election but about everything this conversation. We're having the pandemic and I want you to try to take us there because I preach on this program. I don't want to talk about politics. But you can't get away from politics and especially at a time like this one hundred thousand people who died Do through the growing virus The overwhelming majority of these individuals especially in these large cities. The data points are are people of Color. I mean we have to talk about that This season is upon us. And you know regardless I want people to exercise their right to vote their right to vote safely You know you politics part of everything we do in life and you know I ask. 'cause I'm a big game cut fan and I was like the way to get you know my game friends and my. I don't have any clemson friends but you know the the people who go to school at Clinton though the way you get them to stay at home and stay inside and say that if we do not stay inside we won't have football season and so we're living. A lot of people are living through a great deal of trauma You know we're we're pausing we aren't able to go out. We aren't able to be with loved ones. If you get sick and have to go to the hospital you have to go by yourself

Botanical Latin with Ross Bayton

"What an undertaking encyclopedia more than two thousand plants. Five thousand entries or terms and hundreds of beautiful botanical. It was quite a work came to me and said well. We have room for about five thousand words. Which ones are? You'RE GONNA choose while it was quite an option. There are millions of clients out there so I had to kind of winnow it. Down to the the cream of the crop. Well I've been enjoying it As I said in the introduction you dipping back in and really smiling to have sort of the provenance of the definition so to speak of many of my favorite plants revealed but before we get to that I just wanted to Know a little bit about like why this is not new territory for you've written other things about plant genealogy so to speak. Why is this important to you? Where did you get into this in your life? Well I started gardening as a kid I had a poll of English. Iv that I grew in my room My parents were in the military and we traveled around a lot so I didn't have a garden but I grew a lot of house. Plants and I started by dipping into book that my mom had go reader's digest. It was an encyclopedia of. Houseplants HAS NAMES THERE. And some beautiful illustrations and the words just seem to stick in my mind in a way. The other things don't tend to forget people's names really really good at remembering of names I once. I started to see similarities between one name and another started to be curious about. Won't connections were my mom's a big fan of sweet peas and they are Lazarus Buddha Ross's yes and I realized meant fragrant and I saw that word in other plant names in my garden right spring. But it all the DOTS connecting. Yeah Yeah so okay so for gardeners listening. So why Latin any way and is it truly even Latin or is there some Greek in here? You know what what tell us a little bit about? Why Botanical Latin kind of like Wyatt evolved why it was invented quote unquote. You know a little history. What we call botanical lasted would not be understood by people living in ancient Rome last night. basically what happened is is in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries scholars at universities. They taught entirely in Latin Understanding learning this language was thought to provide agility of mind for the students but also A lot of universities were connected to the church and many churches also Gave that the the Bible was written in Latin and many of their Liturgies were also given in that language so it was very common for scholars to understand that This particular language and for it seemed a natural thing when they started to name plans to use a lot and that they were already using their day to day Scholarly Endeavour right so and then along came. Lineas yes eventually yes then. The names was a Swedish botanist Manassas. Actually his last name. His Swedish name was funding and like many of the scholars of his time on heat he taught Latin and he had a broad interest in science. He was trying to the medical dogs up but he received plants and animals that were brought to him by sailors by travelers and he was really fascinated to try and classify them. I'm so he would give them names in Latin but the really important thing that he did was he gave them a two part name now before. Luna's every all the names that were given to plants and animals. We're actually loan descriptions of those plants animals in lasted. That's pretty cumbersome. When you're dealing with a plant you don't want to name as eight or ten words in it What the did was he. Shorts these down to two words and we now call those toured names the dated by bills and the names that you find in the book right. You mentioned sailors a minute ago. And so this was the early Eighteenth Century. Onward was sort of the age of plant exploration. Yeah people are bringing. It wasn't just Europe where he was it was people were bringing things in from other places and there were unknown thing so different people would be communicating with people in other countries. And I guess didn't I think in the book One of the essays up front says something like one. Great Advantage of Latin is its universality that It's not the language of any one nation. Was that also part of the motivation. Absolutely nobody really speak Latin and so the language that can be used by people in in any country but some last had an advantage in the east started his work in Sweden and Sweden doesn't really have an awful big flora. It doesn't have very many different species of plants. If lemass it'd been born in Central Africa or in South America where plants were much more common much more diverse. It's entirely possible. That just would have been so confused by this great diversity. That Egos have never come up with the system that he did because he only had to work. On a small group of plants he was able to develop a system and then refined as people brought plants to in from other parts of the world so he's began in Europe but this Checks on me that he began quickly began to spread across the world as Europeans and others were exploring further afield and since it wasn't the language anyone nation. It was kind of a shared language for all of these people. There'd be excluded. Yeah yeah it didn't belong to one person so everybody could use it and today they still do If you read a botanical papers from China almost the only part that you'll be able to read if you're an english-speaking lot me is Latin names right so we were mentioned you know plants The system for naming plants and of course it was for other organisms as well and I read an essay. You wrote recently. Or maybe it's excerpted from the book Where you muse about Latin name Homo Sapiens and And how it doesn't sound very fancy compared to some of the plant names that are more elaborate but until you understand what it translates as Which is wise man? Yeah so we gave ourselves Ed very good name. Yeah we were quite modest. Fabian is the name that was given by lineas fact. Lunacies body actually remains the type specimen for the human species because when when he named humanity based on himself he will forever be remembered as the original human. These Wet Tax on consent. So he's not pressed in herbarium slide but he is the type specimen yeah. It's the todd specimen in his tomb in Sweden. So I was early on. I was when I was first. Learning from much. More scholarly individuals plant friends I was paralyzed. Know afraid to say the words out loud because they looked so difficult and I was told. Don't worry Margaret. It wasn't a spoken language. Really it was okay. Just have at it and try to pronounce stuff and and do my best which is always going to be better than a common name. So does pronunciation matter you give guidelines. I think you sort of let us off the hook and say don't worry also. Is that correct? You're absolutely correct Margaret. I always tell people all to worry about it There are purists who might adults two pronunciations for certain parts of botanical Latin. But my feeling is that I would rather people were using the names and understanding them and speaking to some rigid system appreciation You say Clemson said commodities I I think you're easily understood. Whatever the way and as I began doing this as a kid I would say names also different ways so one of the ones I used to mispronounce was the daily Jazz Amaral Kalisz then when I grew up and started speaking to people about it. I realize that everybody actually called a hammer accounts. Yes it's a subtle difference and most people understood what I was saying until I started speaking with other people. I didn't realize that there were other ways that you might say but in truth it doesn't really matter and most people will understand what you're

NFL Draft & Post-Spring Top 25 (without spring football)

"Why don't we turn our attention? Bruce to the players who will be back in college in. Twenty Twenty On Tuesday I released my spring top. Twenty five a little different this year because usually the reason you put it out the last week. April is that everybody's completed spring practice and we use some of the insights we've gleaned from that to update the rankings. I did the morning after title game. Obviously we did not. So why did you put it out this time? Because people love rankings? Remember the the one up morning after the national title game. We didn't yet know who was going to turn pro. We didn't get there have been head. Coaching changes that happened after that game like Matt Rule Even Baylor certainly lots and lots of coordinator changes. Transfer Portal guys I'm not saying that it drastically altered the lineup by any means. But you know there's you you have more info certainly than you did The morning after the national title game so the hardest team to rank is the one we just talked about a little while ago. Lsu because on the one hand they just had this dominant season and we know their program that recruits well so there's going to be able to reload but on the other hand fourteen guys a lot and To replace fourteen guys that were drafted. Some of those very very high draft picks most notably Joe Borough and generally speaking. I look back at some of the teams that had a huge number like that. Almost always there is a drop off. The next year might not be a severe drop off so the question is okay. I had them number five. I believe The day after the title game I dropped them to eight now. It's not like something bad happened between then and now have some you know. We didn't know who his new coordinator is going to be at that point that didn't really factor into it. I just find it hard to believe you can lose that many guys and come back the next year in win the SEC again. What surprised me a little bit? When I looked I was like wait. You drop them down. They actually like Djibril Cox's it was considered by lot of people as the top Grad transfer linebacker in the country and he ended up going there which is which is interesting to see how fit in going from North Dakota state which obviously wins national titles every year till she was just one one so I was a little surprised at okay. The probably the the one area on their defense. That was a question mark. They showed up from the time. You'd sign there but I don't disagree with you. Having them eight. I mean to me. The biggest loss is going to be jober. I mean he had the greatest quarterback anybody greatest quarterback season anybody's ever had in college football. And you know I know. Miles Brennan has a strong arm. That's about all we know right and so nine Oh yes good receivers Tamar Chase as the best receiver. He would have been the best fever in this draft. He's back but they got to replace basically three. And a half starters on the offensive line and they gotta replace Clyde. That's a lot and so to have them eighth. I don't think that's I don't think that's like eye-popping I was like. I said I was a little surprised that you you drop them Just in time from that but I think that could probably be as much relative. Yeah it wasn't because of anything that it wasn't anything that happens since January in. You're right that was a big pickup In terms of Djibril Cox Just recently that morning that it went up and I'll actually for being honest. I wrote it the day of the game. it's you just get a little distance from that and I mean it could be a very wide range of possibilities probably more than most teams in there. The ceiling in the floor is probably a pretty wide range. They wouldn't be. It wouldn't be shocking to me. If I think they're still gonNA be really good on defense. I think you would agree especially up front on the defensive line. You've got probably the best cornerback in the country extinguisher. You've got to Kobe. Steven's coming back. They should be really good still on defense. It's the Joe Borough factor. It's the offensive line. It's replacing Clyde like those are big questions but if they can answer those questions and maybe they're right back in the playoff and if they can't maybe there number eight maybe they go seven and five like there's such a wide range of possibilities with them. The thing that probably surprised me the most about your updated one was really jumped Texas. A&m High move them up seven spots. So what changed? Or what sunk into you that made you feel like I'm I'm going all in on the aggies pretty much well for one thing. I'm a big believer in bill. Connolly's rankings as you know and sometimes we default to Okay they were. They had this record last year and they returned this many stars. Therefore I'm GonNa slot them here but obviously there's more to the story in terms of how much talent do they have? And I think an last year might have had a much different record if they didn't have to play Alabama Clemson and Georgia which is just an insane insane schedule. Their record reflected Bills PRESEASON SP plus rankings. Texas is tenth I don't have them quite that high. Obviously

Raiders pick guard John Simpson at No. 109 in the 2020 NFL Draft

"With the one hundred nine only twenty NFL draft philosophy biggest raiders selected John Simpson card from Clemson I would just rather have a thought on Trent Williams are the founders of the dots of value there with a fifth and a third being that they were maybe gonna get offense of linemen today in one of these late rounds but to lower your thoughts and Johnson said here the guard out of clubs into the Las Vegas raiders John Simpson is now powerful guard all I will say this man Mike may ox loves him some clamps and football and he loves you know handful of programs and you know Trayvon Mullen a year ago and and this kid now and he also this is a big powerful guard but it does make me think that does that mean they get the talk of there at the VA gave Jackson gave Jackson they're they're you know powerful guard is a you know on the trade market that may be the case they may trade gave Jackson this guy may be the replacement so that was my thought on that

"It and we talked earlier about how Clemson for a long time was doing. Almost all of its recruiting locally really. Is that still the case. We've seen that change over the last few years there are now able to go to any part of the country in recruit some of the best players Last last year they signed a five star Receiver Joseph Nada from California and that was the first California recruit they had signed since nineteen ninety. One they come back a year later and the highest rated quarterback in the country. This year was a kid from southern California. Dj Younger Lali Show Man. This guy hit really household. Name is the limit. I'm a nonsmoker. Limited Clemson University. He could have gone anywhere. He chose Clemson. He's flying across the country to go play college at Clemson so they've certainly extended their recruiting brand nationally. They are going to sign. Find the number one class in the country this year for the first time and that's a little bit scary to the rest of the country because they've already had all the success and only now are they landing even even better recruits than they did before and also the university itself applications to Clemson have increased since Davo became the coach and in particular out of state implications have increased with each year of this of the football team and all the exposure. They're bringing to the school more and more kids from around. The country are applying to of that school and so is it fair for Daboh to still call his team Lillo Clemson. I think when people hear him say that or somebody else who clumps and say that they're they're suggesting that the program itself is little all Clemson. Nobody believes that everybody at this point knows they're a powerhouse. They're playing for a national championship. That if they win it'll be their thirtieth straight win and along the way they've beaten Alabama they beat Notre Dame. There'd be it Ohio state now they've gone. LSU To me Lil Clemson is the school in the town and Yes they truly still are relative to other football powerhouses very little very regional Very secluded and obviously not as big TV must see TV branded as some of the other blue bloods in the sport so Stewart Clemson is obviously asleep. This historically great run over the past five years but given how many things are working against them is still a sort of fragile program. I think at this point Dabo Swinney has made this a pretty recession proof. Program certainly helps that. They're in a conference where I think even a down year for Clemson might involve evolved losing one. ACC game or two ACC Games in terms of daboh possibly leaving. That was something that I think was a more legitimate fear at the beginning. Hang of this run and in particular relative to one school. Alabama dabble is a former Alabama walk on receiver. He coached Alabama. But but at this point given the program he's built there. I don't think anybody believes he would leave for Alabama he. What is Alabama how to offer? The clemson doesn't at this point wait. They're they're achieving all the same things Alabama is in more so I think he'll be there for as long as he wants to be there that doesn't mean they couldn't have a take a step back back at some point I mean almost every dynasty eventually ends and it's because they have recruiting class that doesn't pan out or off-the-field stuff gets them a scandal. Could that happen it clumps in sure But at this point I don't think they're fragile. I think they're they are rock. Solid rock solid a program as any in the country at this point and if clemson defies the odds and wins against Lsu on Monday what will that mean four award the programs reputation going forward if Clemson wins this game given Alabama didn't even make the playoffs this year to me. That at that point question over Clemson is the King of college football. I assume they will be preseason number one whether or not they win this game on Monday night but I also assume zoom that we get to next season People will want them to prove it all over again and rip rip them for playing in the ACC and all those things. We'll see maybe this will finally the National Championship. That puts it over the top well Stewart. Thanks for joining US and If clemson does win hope you get to be right next to Davos these dancing that that would be awesome. Thank you for having me. You can read Stewart Mandel story about the Clemson in Tigers on the athletic dot com. Here's some other stories. We're following at the lead some bad news if you're a vikings fan wide wide receiver and wildcard game hero. Adam feeling is now questionable for the forty niners game on Saturday after injuring his ankle at practice and getting stitches But feeling vowed to play on preparing for Saturday and and like. I said I'm going to do what it takes to help the team win. And whatever that is whatever. That role is I'm GONNA me out there and and do my thing and listen. The Vikings are going to need all the help they can get with that niners defense. Especially if Richard Sherman lining up on the other side of Felim meanwhile seventy sixers star. Joel embiid gross out earlier. This week with a gruesome sideways finger injury. Yeah he did so embiid who exited earlier with an issue. In your mind we see with that. Is yesterday the big man was diagnosed with a torn ligament. I mean I could have told you that and we'll be reevaluated. After having surgery and finally the IOC announced on Thursday that Olympic athletes at the Tokyo Games are banned from displaying any political messaging aging including science or armbands and gestures of a political nature like a hand gesture or kneeling. So basically Iot doesn't want any kind of political controversy at at the Games. Yeah Good luck with that. And why are they announcing this now so it seems to be a response to an incident involving two American athletes at the Pan Am games last year a fencer who took checking me and a hammer thrower who raised a fist and the US Olympic Committee asked the IOC after that happened to clarify its rules. "All of football the resources where where they are geographically <hes> the the recruiting bed that they can they can reach north south east and west and yet every year we have to say is texas xs bet they're underachieving if they are the mecca of college football. How can you possibly justify just one national championship championship since one thousand nine hundred seventy fifty years guys and by the way they need to just think about owning their own rivalry oklahoma for instance in that same time time frame four national championships so if they're the mecca of college football. They got some serious work to do when it comes to bring home a national championship. I unfortunately too got a little too literally big. It's a huge state takes two days to drive for that. Let's go to u._s._c. now. They hire graham harrell as the offensive coordinator andrei underrated moved to the air raid u._s._c. Adopting the air raid is what i guess desperate when you go oh five and seven and your jobs on the line and you clay held and you're going to try just about anything you can to win. Football games you've recruited to a certain system is to each and every year for the last four years. It's supposed to be quarterback you <hes> they might like it. The quarterbacks for certain we'll like a great it's mind blowing to me to think that the that i grew up with and early two thousand carson and liner reggie and all these incredible players. They were a pro style multiple style off with a quarterback under center n._f._l. Running back long wide receivers on the outside multiple tight ends on the field depending on what the down and distance was just like the fact that they have adopted. The system of today is insane to me so i'll be curious to see how it works out. Clearly is a a <hes> a desperation move for clay. They help make sure that they get this thing back on track finished ninth in the pac twelve and scoring offense so you got to do something and they are certainly doing something right speaking of adopting texas this a._m. The unity council has adopted a policy that the team will stay off of all social media for the duration of fall camp yep andrei no social media for the rest of all cap. That is what give me a word smart. I love it. I absolutely love it because because there's going to see is going to force guys to focus on the job at hand out working through camp. You're not there no distractions whatsoever you just you're just focusing on football and learning the offense and defense and then putting everything you have into what needs to be accomplished for the twenty nine thousand nine uh-huh no social media t the twenty two the only thing i've ever known as social media can't pick up the phone and talk to one of my friends or one of my teammates at the tweet at emerson a direct message. There's no way that this is going to be something that these guys can wrap their head around then again. It is smart and i appreciate it knowing that a that they have an expectation of what they're trying to focus in on during the fall camp but my reaction initially of jimbo fisher were to present if i may ten point to how do we talk to people people how do i what does this interacting you speak of by the way clemson also off limits for the entire season and it seems to worked for them last <hes> eight or so years. They've been doing that for the last three national championship all right next one. This is the one hundred fiftieth season of college football andre the one hundred under fiftieth season of of be is what give me a word rippling writing it now as we speak exciting about that exciting exciting a lot of excitement in this season in college football two hundred fiftieth year. I think there's gonna be a lotta great football. <hes> football games played this year and a lot of tradition built on. What's already been established this. This'll be fun year to to kinda see what's in store exciting. It always is going chaki interpreted as all right. What's this season look like. Are they going to be some surprises. I don't see any guys. I it feels like the usual. Usual suspects are going to be in the running for another national championship..

"On his game. Dabo sweeney has an exit interview with every player kinda gives them their orders moving forward through the spring and summer and some some of the things that trevor was working on footwork. He wants to be able to extend plays longer and better for this clemson offense and said you know i want to work on some of my mechanics. He was dropping his arm a little little bit too much late in the season so a lot of things that he's trying to build on for that sophomore season. He's got so much work with here that position. It's pretty <hes> pretty amazing. They get them for two more years hard to fathom how good he will be at the end of his junior campaign ladies. Thank you so much and we'll be looking forward to more more from you. As your trip continues here on this college football tour coming up on wednesday they'll be at another college football playoff team oklahoma check it on jalen hurts and company before heading to the other side of the red river with visit to texas on thursday. Let's welcome back in <hes> greg and andre let's shift back into the clemson tigers the reigning national champs guys when you take a look at their schedule according to the preseason coaches poll who knows how different the a._p. Will be <hes>. There's only two ranked ranked teams that they're gonna have their schedules texas ada evans syracuse. They're going to be heavy favorites throughout given that fact greg will start with you can clemson afford four to lose a game with the schedule and still make the plough it depends on the optics of the loss naturally so if they go out and play like ohio state did against purdue last year and lose by five touchdowns or like ohio state did a couple of years ago and lose by thirty plus to iowa then yeah. That's going to be a really difficult loss to overcome but i also thanks to look. The committee says every single time they put out a ranking. It's a snapshot of what they've seen in college football that season. They're human guys at some point. They have to kinda think about historically just how good clemson's been when put in a playoff scenario so i think just knowing that clemson clemson has been there done that and been successful in the playoffs. I think they would get the benefit of the doubt. If in fact they were to drop the only reason andre where i could see clemson not getting into the playoff is it there were four undefeated power five conference champions and i don't think any of us that i agree with you so in a sense but i i think the earlier the better so they can lose. Yes would be the answer but it's earlier in the schedule when they can lose so you can show <hes> the country and the committee that you bounced back. Maybe there was a player that was was hurt that week and you bounce back and you get to show the remainder of the season. What kind of team you really are as you progress through the season whether it's the a._m. Week or the syracuse week that follows really when you look at the schedule realistically mystically. I don't think there's much to it other than those two games <hes> there's some teams n._c. State has played them tough the last couple of years but <hes> aside from texas saying emma syracuse early clinton seems to have a path of smooth sailing so to speak that'd be interesting to see if they had a loss if they were compared to another one loss team that had a tougher schedule because we've seen it's just number of losses not necessarily strength the schedule. It's gotten you into the playoff college football teams taking the field to begin camp as our high school..

"They had as many championships will given the age of the team and the ceiling where the parents side of Trevor Lawrence at this moment next season. We may be saying, wait a minute. We were actually living through the Clemson era and didn't realize it that is a huge kind of perception altering game last night. You gotta give Clemson all the credit in the world for where they are today. But making a projection of a where we're going to be for the next several years is a dangerous game. I think Trevor Lawrence is amazing. And both of these teams are stocked and loaded on recruiting classes at the underclassmen level. But I've heard you guys a little bit earlier today. And I know Stephen you've said this. I'm not worried about too. I'm not worried about two at all. In fact, out of that game last night. I came out more impressed with two more. I loved the way he respond. Yes. I love the way who responded to adversity. I love the way he responded after that. First pick six I loved the way to as mistakes to his faults. Come from a place of confidence not getting rattled. Great to have throwing the ball kept firing them to get back in that game. Where we'll let me come at you with this. I get where you're coming from. Because I was incredibly impressed with him. After throwing a pick six going back going at thirty two to sixty two yard touchdown pass. I get that. And I like, and I like to a lot and what I saw I guess what I'm talking about is the way and the men in which we were talking about too before last night's game game attached with such a level of invincibility and the sea. It's not about them losing. It's how they lost. It's the fact that they got beat them. It's the fact that they got beat down. It's the fact that they got you don't like you said for every. Different position. They were getting beaten you. We were talking about two or coming into the game with talking about Lawrence coming at it. Again. I think there was a lot of talk again. And again, I'm not saying that anybody, you know, deduce that launch was scrubbed. We know and Paul finebaum came on radio show months ago, saying they made the switch from Bryant to Lawrence because about beating Alabama. Right. And you knew that he gave so nobody's knocking it. It's just that the guy's a freshman. And what we did it expect to see with what we saw that. It's not about a win. But we didn't know we have no that triplets. And I agree with you about two of the real issue for two is injury concern. Not like is he going to be great. Is he going to be great at the next level? He's got that thing for surely, you could see it on them. Plus he's very accurate passer. You just you like the cut of his Jim, right? I need to everyone does the question was about Trevor Lawrence because he had everything else. He had the size in the arm and the accuracy and all that stuff. The question was did he have it? And. I was suspecting. Maybe the answer was yes. And he would lose a tough game Alabama. Maybe coming back neck beat them next year. But oh my God. As a true freshman, he decimated Alabama. Yeah. Look if he could come out, and I'm sure you guys talked about this today if he could come out next year, I have zero doubt that he would be the first overall pick in the NFL draft. He would go ahead of Dwayne Haskins or any other quarterback at the age of nineteen. But he can't. So he'll be the first overall pick and twenty twenty one and two. Instead, I suspect we the first overall pick in twenty twenty and what I'm telling you is coming out in that game last night. Not only do I have zero hesitations not only did it make me Inouye fearful the two is going to turn out to be an amazing quarterback to build your franchise around the NFL..

"If at the beginning of this decade when Nick Sabin already won a title mile Bama, and was setting up this infrastructure. If you come to me, or I think anyone and said, hey, there's going to be one team that by the end of the decade is. Oh until neck and neck with Alabama urine. You're out people might have said see they might have said Oklahoma. They might have said, well, how state they might have said, Texas, Mata said floored. Clemson wouldn't have been one of the first fifteen Clemson. They won the national title Eighty-one there. They before this run. They had the same history of twenty five other college football programs in place that hasn't been historically a hotbed to recruit from four them. They're competing with us see schools like what he is done. There is remarkable. It has created a new powerhouse program in college football out of nearly thin air. So I I right now contemporary contemporaneously they in Alabama are clearly neck and neck and what he's doing in remaking. What Clemson football is to me is nothing short of remarkable. Yeah. There's a lot of good programs in college football right now. The the criminal crown has been Clemson and Alabama last week in talking with Ryan day in in recent than last couple of days, we got a lot of kids. They're gonna come out of school. And I've been just conversating with the coach his recruitment Hieaux, and he's recruiting the nation. But it's in with Clemson and Alabama in mind, he saying, yeah, I need kids. I want kids from Ohio. Yeah. I want kids from around the nation. Yes. But if these kids can't help me be Clemson and Alabama, that's the standard in college football. And with a high of state having won the top five program, one of their coaches, telling me, yes, I think everyone else in college football should recognize Clemson and Alabama. They are step above Georgia, Texas, Ohio State, and Michigan and these other schools are going to have to from a quarterback standpoint billing to protect that quarterback. And getting after the quarterback, you're going to have to build a match what these teams have been able to do what I think is Warren portent, especially with the retirement of urban Meyer. There's only one coach on the level of Nick Sabin. And that's Davos wing all there is no other than the legendary coaches in college football, Davos waning and Nick Sabin or the only. There is the best stat that Clemson has going for and the other schools we've seen go on four or five year run either at historical or infrastructure recruiting advantages. We saw what urban did it Florida that unbelievable run? But it is not he shouldn't have been shocking. Anyone that you get all time? Great head coach in a place like the university of Florida that he can build a juggernaut we've seen with the university of Miami is done multiple times over the last thirty years. What did under Pete Carol all of those made sense to me like what Oklahoma? I know the only one the one title was stoops, but what they were able to do in year in year out being a top five team, Florida state with all those things made sense for the reason I brought up the coach K example is. For a guy to take over a a smart kid school in Chapel Hill backyard, North Carolina's backyard, and then all of a sudden make them the premier program in college basketball. How does that happen? Clemson to do what he's done in the SEC's backyard in a school that had always been a second tier football school compared to the top teams is remarkable. How did he do it? What can you pinpoint and say, well, this is this is where it really changed? This is where it really happened..

"That we had in this game. Whether you're seeing your who's leaving or whether your player who's coming back, and you see that we have worked to do. I Nick went when you look at what Clemson did not only this year, but what has been doing the last couple years, can you? Now put these two programmes on equal footing. I think you have to in the right here. Now over the last four years of both fifty five and four the both two times champions. They're both in the playoff every single year there two and two against each other. And I think more importantly than what I think what the young athletes what the high school players think they Clemson has on their rosters freshmen this year. The number one player from Ohio got a pretty damn good football school in Ohio got the number one player from Alabama. They got a pretty good football school in Alabama. And what dabbles Swinney is done is to me. The only thing I can compare it to what coach K did it Duke when he took over a team that was not a blue blood that was not one of these all time great programs and turned it into one. If at the beginning of this decade when Nick Saban already a title mile Bama, and was setting up this infrastructure. If you come to me, or I think anyone and said, hey, there's going to be one team that by the end of the decade is. Oh until neck and neck with Alabama urine. You're out people might have said see they might have said Oklahoma. They might have said, well, how state they might have said, Texas, Madison, Florida, Clemson wouldn't have been one of the first fifteen Clemson. Yeah. There's a lot of good programs in college football right now, the the criminal crown has been Clemson and Alabama last week and talking with Ryan day in recent than last couple of days, we got a lot of kids. They are a step above Georgia, Texas, Ohio State and Michigan and these other schools are going to have to from a quarterback standpoint billing to protect that quarterback. And getting after the quarterback, you're going to have to build a match what these teams have been able to do what I think is warm portent, especially with the retirement of urban Meyer. There's only one coach on the level of Nick Sabin. And that's dabbled swing all the other. There is no other than the legendary coaches in college football, Davos waning, and Nick saving or the only. To on that level, everyone else's Spiring to get to that level. So not only from a coaching standpoint because that helps recruiting care. All right because you can go in there and say, yeah, man, we stood either. I with the beasts four times in the last several years, and we will them twice that. Right. "He was really impressive with how he would hang in the pocket something that you don't really see with freshmen, especially freshman going up against Nick Saban thing to be clear with what Dan said earlier Lawrence. And who's the why is it Ross the white music with the freshman. It's two more years. Two more years at Clemson. Yeah. The system keeps them there for three seasons if you play them right away and Clemson had three guys who were suspended for last night's game. And they still beat them that badly, which is pretty amazing, but people writing off Nick Sabin today. It's ludicrous that save it's done Daboh than who save in cleanses the new Alabama now on it's both teams are going to be better next year. Correct. They have these quarterback. Yes. With another offseason of development another year of. Physical development because you seen just over the course of the season. How different Trevor Lawrence looks physically than he did when he was coming in and spot duty and relief of Kelly. Bryant Lawrence's is the size of rob gronkowski's the same and maybe ten or twelve pounds lighter. But the thing about college too, though is that you know, when you're a top five recruit. Schools don't need to recruit you. You're so good that you recruit schools, and if it reaches a point where Clemson is the place to go just the way Alabama has been the place ago, then it's gonna metastasized, and it's only gonna get easier for devastating but hasn't Clemson Bennett place to go. I mean Ross the wide receiver fr- he's from Alabama. And it got the best freshman quarterback in the country. I mean, it's been a place to go. I feel I for a few years. Now are we just figuring out today? The clemson's pretty good which is weird because they've been in the college football playoff four straight time. All right. They've beaten Alabama in a title game previously. Right Chevra Laurence's fifty pounds lighter than gronk when you said that. Wait a minute. Fifty wait a minute. How much Trevor Lawrence way Trevor Lawrence is six five to sixteen and gronk his sixty six then also might be he has. He's growing though official burger. Grow it. But he's not still growing. He's not close to. So wait, let still you get my point. But you like football was trailing behind basketball. And this was a about a decade and a half ago day. On the second point. I mean, the point is Trevor learns really big the point is you couldn't sound any worse than you in every way. Like, you're like, it's not bad enough that the that the points are wrapped in phlegm sickness and things that are distracting the show, but on top of that the point stinks, actually, the phlegm level has been pretty good. Dry. But lemme by the point stakes will that point stunk. I worn Trevor Lawrence was I can't leave you alone for a minute here. I cannot leave you alone for one minute here before but you'll poop on the carpet. Yeah. This is incredibly unfair that Trevor Lawrence has a play this physical sport for two more seasons for no money. You saw a decade and a half ago. College basketball realize get good we gotta play these freshmen and not sit on the bench. We gotta play them right away. Because that's how we get the elite guys. And now the elite programs football realize we'll get the best freshman in the country and they're gonna play right away. Otherwise, they're gonna leave us..

"Let me hear it. Tonight's national championship. Only match up you need even the most ardent playoff expand. Or knows. That's the case. If you're Clemson Alabama somebody's finishing your fifteen. And for the first time in football this the cheetah victory. The most important thing in tonight's game. George go ahead. Oh, the most important things the quarterback play. You look at two. He's got forty one touchdowns. Four picks this year Trevor Lawrence no slapped by the way, twenty seven touchdowns himself. And I think this is going to be one of these games where whoever has the ball last. Tony is going to win. This thing. Defense is dead, basically. Okay. As much as we how great Alabama's players are on defense. And they are they're great individual players Clinton is great individual players. They'll be a bunch of first round picks that are coming out of those defenses. But the way college football is now it's all about the offense and how many so every new Iran. Alabama's front seven front. Four is going to dominate this game decide how this game is one. You say that throw that out the window? There is no defense whoever has the ball last. And you Don, Georgia's right? The key is the quarterbacks, but Trevor Lawrence isn't the dual threat to Shawn Watson was when when clips beat Alabama. The Shawn Watson rush twenty one times only forty three yards, but you have to think that dual threat kept Alabama's defense. Bows, travelers has only rush fifty four times all season. So he's not the threat to run. And I think Alabama could really key on him in the pocket. Unlike when the match this game. Well, the metrics decided is going to be the running game of Clinton they average two hundred and fifty yards running. And they put the ball in Travis SE ns hands. That's something that they did not have before as j just kind of mentioned. So I think whether or not they can run the ball effectively also controlling the clock which can give their defense some rest and get the ball into the end zone that way, I think that can change the ten that's the pet victory over Clemson. Did you see that happening? I think so. Yeah, I think they gotta do that. And none of that. You just look at Alabama's last game. How they let eight oh you get back into the game. I mean, they've had some struggling guy. So yeah, I see that. Clemson has to get to the quarterback. They sacked the quarterback fifty two times. He's here now too. We know not really one hundred percent with that ankle that he has not the same quarterback like most quarterbacks when he gets pressured obviously, his percent completion percentage goes down to me that will be the key. But I just think that Alabama whenever they lose. It seems like a fluke when they're trailing at half time. It seems like a fluke. I just think they're too dominant. Alabama tonight. You wanna give us a score Franken? Thirty four black Saul. Clemson thirty one third. Thirty twenty seven and George you've got like the the final being seventy two seventy right. Forty one thirty Alabama break ground. Technology truth brought to you by. Truth. You will certainly any text about your supervisor to your supervisor. What's Janet's fangs?.

"And I did a little Clemson sports program called the tiger sports report. So yes, I mean that was a really long answer to a really short question. But it did it just ignited my whole career really was ignited through Clemson football. That wasn't important Jane for the Clemson football program. I mean when the Tigers take the field later tonight. Yes, they won the ACC this year. They won the Cotton Bowl last weekend. But the idea that this school in this small southern town could actually win a national championship. Started back in the in the eighties. You are. Exactly. Right. And you remember that? Well, as I do, you know was not on anybody's radar. It was not something we talked about bought about or dream about until we finished our season against South Carolina. And we went oh, wow. Look we're undefeated and it went to number one. And guess what you guys get to go to the Orange Bowl. I mean that was really the first time it ever occurred to us. We're we're kinda spoiled a little bit. Now, you know that we understand that we've got the culture and the program, and and all of the facilities in the foundations that we're really in it, you see that Alabama one Clemson wanted twenty sixty Alabama could be our turn again, we could see another, you know, three after after tonight. So yeah, but the culture and eighty one completely different. But once you've won it once you've proven to the whole wide world that Clemson university and Lou upstate South Carolina can win a national championship can be a real contender individualism football. You're right. Joey just writes, the story for the rest of football future things Jane that just. Really makes it special though. The Clemson football program is more than about just playing the game. A coach swinging the coaches before him I'm gonna be talking with coast, Danny Ford here in just a few minutes, but just a legend over in those areas, but you know, these coaches and the Clemson program in general, they're serious about these men completing their education, they're serious about making sure that these young men are prepared for life after football because that day eventually come exactly right in professional football. Even even with as many guys as we do have heading to the NFL, if not the story for the majority of the team, very small percentage, and even those guys aren't gonna play maybe five years match. So you've gotta understand that your education is the most important thing and look at Christian Wilkins in four years. He has his undergraduate and graduate degree, you know, Devo, I think just really sets the precedent for that. He is the first in his family to graduate from college. He was able to do that. Thanks callings after you walked onto. The Alabama football team, gene stallings gave him a scholarship, then gene stallings called him back after he was going to graduate and be in business while gene selling I come back into your got a graduate degree that you can work on to grad assistant, and so he earned a graduate degree and that the emphasis that he he gives these players, and you know, what if a mama of college age person, my son is twenty years old, if my son were college football player, there is not one person in America that I would want to tuck him up under the wing of..

"It's just that clemson's next level dominant against the run even without Dextra Lawrence. I mean, like, you know, heading into the Notre Dame game you were thinking, well, you know, without you know, and you know, now they're going against extra Williams who's had like. Bunch of games in a Rosen's. He came back from suspension like maybe they could do something. No. You know, they didn't do anything. You know? I forgot if it was like thirty five rushing attempts for like eighty five yards total. I think I think extra got held in the low fifty Dextra Williams got held in the low fifties. So I just don't think that Alabama's gonna be able to get much going on the ground for for me if I'm going into this game. Like if I'm Nick Sabin. What I wanna do initially is be extremely aggressive from the jump, you know, in in in terms of passing passing passing. And I'm basically trying to figure out, you know, like sometimes I think these matchups like in a match up, you know, and like the different skill sets. And and what would be the way that the fighters would go in if the other fighter like had this Pacific skill in this specific weakness and whatnot. And you know for for this game what you're trying to identify like if if you're on the Alabama side is we're exactly in that Clemson secondary. What can we start to pick on you know, how can I if I'm Nick Sabin? How can I play Lincoln Riley from from less? You know? Saturday, or whatever how can how can I find the Patrick, sir? Take on on the other team that that I can pick on in coverage. And that's what I'm trying to figure out. I I if I'm them. I don't really try to run a ton initially, you know, outside of just keeping people off to to because I I don't think it's going to be very effective. As is. I I think it's just gonna be wasting downs. More or less. All right. Let's look at this from the other side. Then I mean, obviously, it sounds like he's the Alabama is going to have some issues with this Clemson defense. And certainly there's a strong statistical profile Anderson outright talent profile for the Clemson defense. What about this Clemson offense against the Alabama defense? How do you feel that stacks up? Oh, man. It's it's another really interesting handicap, it's I I think they match up. Okay. The the Clemson offense. Here's what I like. Okay. Clemson's offense can be more balanced going in like period, right like because Clinton's defensive line is that Trump card against Alabama run game. So so Alabama if Alabama is not affecting sorry. If Alabama is not affectively passing especially early on. I don't know that they can win this game. Like, they're passing it needs to be awesome. Whereas with with Clemson they can do both because Alabama's defense does not have that Trump card. I mean, I suppose someone out there could be screaming what about quinoa? And and what about the, you know, you know, rake on or whatever and in the middle. Alabama's got awesome defensive tackles quitting Williams is. I mean, he might be the best player in the nation. You know, just you know, irregardless of everything else. He probably the best player on Alabama's team started the two supporters. He's starting everything. But Alabama's defense this year. It's not the same. You know, lashes Alabama team that that that one time. Title, basically to me they were like ninety five percent of this Clemson team that Alabama team was number one in the nation in essence plus defense and their offense was in the twenties. Well, clemson's, you know, one defense this year and their offense is five. So that's he was a little bit down. But you know, this team is is different. Right. And and so it's you know, it just causes different things, you know, as far as the match ups go..

"I would put just behind Oklahoma's in that range, and we know that Alabama's offense is going to be able to score even though you know, the Clemson defense has been stellar. They did give up thirty five yards against South Carolina. Allowing five hundred yards passing. They did play another pass offense in Texas M. They allowed four hundred thirty yards passing and allowed five hundred and one yards per game. So you know, I think both teams are going to be able to move. The ball. But I think it's going to be more of moving between the twenties. I think we're going to see more field goals than people expect and I'm happy to take the points with the Tigers in what I think will be a game. Where again a lot of field goals kicked. I'll be looking at at playing the props for over unders field goals. And and and I think I'll be playing that over the over the total. Well, you mentioned Clemson fifty two six Alabama forty five Clemson third in yards per game on offense Alabama fourth Alabama second yards per play. Clemson third Clemson number one in the country in yards per carry Alabama eighteenth, but Alabama lead the country in yards per pass attempt and will lead the country in passing touchdowns if they get a couple here in this game. So, you know, both of these seems very very proficient on offense and defense June the prompt market, and I think that's something. I want to expand on a little bit here for a couple of minutes because I've mentioned listeners you're both in my preview and on yesterday's show. This is basically like the Super Bowl now when it comes to the amount of props that are out there. So you mentioned that you're looking that you're looking for some field goal props and things of that sort. What about the way that this game plays out? You think that you know, there's a mismatch at a skill position. You feel like one of the two quarterbacks has a big day or both quarterbacks. Have a big day. What are you? Looking for in the market. Well, one thing I can tell you is this, you know, we know that the Super Bowl props have ballooned to be just a force abetting force out here. And what happens in the market is so often they don't put enough time into those props. They look at what last year's were. And they make small adjustments in the Super Bowl prop. Well, the college football props are new to the scene, and if they look at the last couple years and make small adjustments. I think you're going to have an advantage to the over with Alabama's offense playing at such a historic rate and their defense not being the par. So, you know, I do believe that I'll be I'll be looking for some overs, you know, as far as looking at the rushing and the passing and the receiving numbers. I it's a market. That's still relatively new. It's a market that if you get those numbers, I and you start looking at value. I think I think the props are clearly the place for you to get. Value. You know couple of things you look at with with the Clemson receivers. Well, you know, someone like t Higgins who, you know, had nine receptions as last couple of games the first first four weeks, the only had nine receptions. So you've got a guy coming on there at the end, but you have to look at current form. Look at what coaches went to what receivers late in the year when these games met bore against their rivals the last week in the conference championships. And in the first playoff games. I think those trends tend to carry over. So when I'm looking at player props I tend to look at at the game by game situations for those key players for the last three or four weeks and make my assessments based on those and not the year to date stats. What else thing I'll ask you? Why here with regards to the national championship where does this number go?.

"Com, he hosts the outstanding Clemson dub cast podcast. And of course, he is the author of Clemson, tough, guts and glory under Daboh Sweeney. Please welcome back to the show, Mr. Larry Williams, sir. How are you? Hey, man, great to be with you. Enjoy your podcast. Thank you. You know, you are on the podcasts like six years ago. I went back and check the last time you were on with us was way back when in twenty twelve well, I shudder to think that some of the questions, and I shudder to think it probably some of the answers, I gave given the different state of the Graham now compared to then walk me through how the program has changed over the last six years. Well, where we last tall I'm assuming that was well either before or during the twelve season. And so you're in the first year and Brinson Ables. And he was struggling they were not near what they are. Now, they I mean, they get forty eight points ANSI state that year believe like sixty sixty to forty eight they got just dragged up and down the field late, Florida state, and they really were still known as. Sort of that Tommy Bowden type roller coaster man that could could bag some big wins. But would fall on their face. And they they were just several months removed from seventy to thirty three against West Virginia in the Orange Bowl the narrative after that the buckle sort of nationally was boy, it's going to take them a long time to recover from this. And so the year later that went over LSU in the in the chick fil able was so big. There was a feeling that they just can't hold up against some of these SEC heavyweights. So not many people thought they were going to be able to hang with LSU, let alone and so they did they they won that game. And then in the thirteen opener Georgia goes to Clemson with Todd Gurley. Remember that game? Very great game. Sure. Yup. And so here's how I sort of view it in the LSU game Atlanta the defensive line owned that game. It was a bunch of young defensive like, Grady, Jared Beasley and Corey Crawford while staking. Yeah. And so then against Georgia even though Georgia put up thirty five in that game. If you go back and watch Clemson defensive line controlled that game. And so. Always even under timing. Bowden always had. Elite skill guys. Right true. But where they really turned the corner is when they started getting big time players on the defensive line. And so that's really where they got the level where they could they could go toe to toe with with the heavyweight. So you mentioned the defensive line. And you know, I mean, we're covering fifty games a week here on the podcast. And for me. I'm always trying to figure out what is teams identity. That's gonna help me understand what they're all about. My thirty thousand foot view of Clemson is that their defense is gonna kill you in the trenches because of that front four and they're going to set up an offense that is increasingly more balanced as the pieces around Trevor Lawrence Trevor warrants himself develops. I've I've kind of referred to casually like an upscale Michigan is that a fair assessment of who. Who Clemson is team? Well, I think so I don't watch a lot of Michigan. But I would say defensively. Yes. Offense, really, Michigan more traditional, I guess. Whereas Clemson dating back to the days Chad Morris, and they were really cutting edge when Morris for Scott here because in the there was nobody else doing the the tempo. The hurry up. No huddle stuff that he brought from Tulsa crimson is more conventional than they used to be. But only conventional because everybody else is doing what Clemson used to be innovative doing if that makes any sense. Sure, sure. But they're still a spread offense. And I still have a lot of bells and whistles a lot of I candy. And so I would I would I guess consider them different from Michigan in that respect. I mean, maybe I don't know maybe a little like Florida state during the during the ninety s. Offensively. And in fact, that's what this feels like Clemson in the ACC. So it was like Florida state in the ACC in the nineties when the Seminoles were like seventy two or something ridiculous. Like that. When there was just no hope. To to Detroit on them..

"Are the rundown Chetty drier and friction going little BC fight song in the background as we are joined by Scott. Former quarterback at Boston College football sideline. Reporter I can even say his name correctly, Scott mutual and we're buddies in other words, Scott sing along Scott. The fight song. I don't think I've ever been introduced to the BBC fight song coming out of the background pretty interesting. Yeah. We we do a lot of good stuff. Here's we do. We we couldn't find him. I wanted to actually try to find highlights from a game that I was at one thousand nine hundred eighty three. That's how old I am. When beat Clemson at alumni stadium. When it was about half the size. It is now. And refrigerator Perry was playing for Clemson Doug Flutie was playing for BBC and BC won that game Clemson came in. I just was amazed that the whole stadium was completely orange. It was just incredible. And you're gonna see a lot of that tonight. I ran into a couple of people on Wednesday night in the north end that are in for the game already. So they they certainly travel obviously, Las Vegas. God has plunged in one thousand nineteen and a half point favorites. BBC's had a really good year. How give us give us the plan that can keep this game close and maybe pull the upset. Well, first of all the Clinton people travel like nobody else man, if you've if you're a college football fan, you owe it to yourself to go down to see a game down there because they are very friendly even in person, and it's a great stadium to go. Visit and I highly recommend going to visit Clinton anytime. You get a chance has for the eagles. The eagles have had a pretty good year seven and two in in in a good spot and in still mathematically can get into the playoff series. I know it sounds crazy. But they still are alive in that aspect. But Clemson is a is a team. That's basically Alabama pros at every position at every level. Very talented team. You look at those guys and you'll hear a lot of their names called in the in the spring and the drafts and the NFL draft to tell you the truth sodas BBC has a couple, you know, three to five players that'll probably get their names called as well. And they're pretty talented guys to watch out for this this weekend. The biggest one AJ Dylan for BBC's draft. Eligible but he's a big key on the offensive. And he's been battling an ankle injury for the last couple of weeks in DC expects on the play. I don't know if he'll be one hundred percent. But if they expect to did they expect to give confidence game is going to have to control the line of scrimmage versus vaunted, Clemson defensive line and run the football and keep that Clemson offense off the field. And then probably hit some big plays in the in the play action in passing game. If they expect to have a chance in this game, the cards are stacked against them, but you know, stranger things have happened. Yeah. When you look at those offense of defensive lines against each other can go mining Romano against a lot of these offensive and defensive lines. Is there also a concern though? Then when it gets to the speed process that that's really where Clemson would have an advantage over BC. Yeah. I think this the speed and some size on the perimeter may be an issue for on the defensive Andrew BBC BBC has some good cornerback in me. She's actually in the lead of the lead in interceptions in in the nation. So they they've they're ball hawking secondary. And they can make some place. It's just not very tall on the perimeter has got some tall radio receivers that can cause some issues. Travis T T N for for continent that some big games running the football for them. He's just under a thousand yards on the year and already has fifteen touchdown. So this is a team that averages forty seven almost forty eight points a game it only gives up thirteen points. So there every you know, it's not against the competition to they put some really good competition. But as you mentioned, they're defensive ends Zack Allen is is a name that will ring early for the draft this upcoming year. He's a defensive end from Connecticut. Very very good player. Very talented all down player can rush the passer and play the run very well. And then on the other end is white Ray is the senior who was kind of in herald Landry. Who is the patriots fans can watch outlander? He's playing for the titans of the year. He will be match, you know, trying to get Tom Brady this year. He was the second round draft for the titans. So white rate was kind of behind him for a little while. But now that you know, held gone he has had a good year and is on the top of the nation with Saxon on the has nine and a half tax on your which puts him in the. Two or three, and he dabbled Sweeney is built just an unbelievable team here in in Clemson since he's taken over there. They're Brennan early in the playoffs. They're almost like Alabama in that sense. And this team is maybe one of his best. He's had to. I mean, they just putting up so many points the past four weeks that they've played sixty three points against Wake Forest forty one against NC state fifty nine against Florida state and then last week against Louisville. They put up seventy seven points. How does BBC's defense tried to contain such an explosive offense? Well, when you're trying to control an explosive offense, you got to figure out which one you wanna stop and which one you're comfortable trying to defend your best match up against. So if you'd be in my opinion, you're gonna expect them to try and focus on stopping the running game. Because of Clemson has a true freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence who's going is very good right now. And it's only going to get better Davos that was when he has done a great job. Obviously. He was he's Alabama guy. He's learned. I'm Nick Sabin. That's part of the reason. He's built the program the way he has but Dabo Swinney made a controversial decision earlier in the year. Two to start Trevor warrants instead of his his quarterback last year Kelly Bryant who proceeded to leave after that. And this true freshman has done nothing. But impressing as you mentioned in the last couple of games as they put up points. It's been bit him throwing the football. He starts over three hundred in two of the last couple of to the last three games and Trevor Ward's is very talented. But I think BC's way of trying to beat them defensively is control that running game. Keep be gap. Sound don't give up some big big running plays versus Travis ESPN and their clue and then chase him coverages in the back end mixing some some man mixing some zone. Trevor Morris come off as I read and into throw of a secondary receivers. And then either the pass rich gets home, and you can create some negative plays that way or you can cause them to throw the ball where where you want wanted to maybe pick them off. Scott as a former quarterback what's your assessment of what has gotten from Anthony Brown this year? And how is he going to be able to attack this Clemson defense that as you mentioned as several I bound takes on it. Yes. So Anthony has is recovered from his knee surgery. He hurt his knee just about a year ago against NC state. And he started out pretty well. He had a great game against Wake Forest where he threw five touchdown passes. And and run through it all over the ball yard and then struggled on the road against Purdue. And turn the ball over four times. I think he's starting to find a balance if you look at that he does he's only thrown five interceptions on the year with sixteen touchdowns. So he's put up some good numbers. But does it in a different way? They're not with the spread pipe gain. That's going to throw a quick bubble screens. And a lotta slants are quick passing game. They're passing game is predicated on the patch and then hitting deep shots down the field. Anthony is you know, had a lot of big plays down the field. Big arm. He can make every single throat, but a lot of his big plays have been you know, with deep shots off play action. And be the the the issue is is in the games would be either struggled or haven't or hasn't or lost. They haven't they missed those big plays. They miss them against Purdue. And even the. The first half against Virginia Tech Anthony plays out on the field where he missed some guys that were open. So he he really can't afford to miss those shots versus because you only get three to five the game in which allows you the opportunity to win. And when you're, you know, a significant underdog like DC is you have to capitalize on all those big play action passes and for him the last couple of weeks as he started to get healthier. He started to use his legs a little more and with him running the football nice dynamic to their with their power running game. Anytime you could throw the quarterback running there. It helps keeps defenses honest and doesn't allow them to just flow their linebackers and secondary downhill and and a lot of penetration. Because that's what a lot of teams try to come back BC with they know b he's going to run the football. So they really try to crowd the crowd the box and get as many guys in there to cause some disruption so PC can get those deep shops in the passing game. And Anthony Braxton uses legs. That that would be the recipe for BC on the offensive end. But he's the guy that's going to have to win the game for BBC. There's no doubt about it. If he doesn't have an a plus game. BC doesn't have a chance to win. We're chatting with Scott and former Boston College quarterback and current BBC football sideline. Reporter scott. How big a game is this for BBC ESPN is going to be here for game day, not necessarily pulling the opposite. But just proving that there are a major program and helping them recruiting process because everybody's going to be watching this game tomorrow night. Beat Miami on Friday night a couple of weeks ago, which further abandoned the game, which is a big game for BBC. But this is this is a total pulled other level. Like, Clemson the second ranked team in in the nation. They're reading the Atlantic Division of the ACC BC wins this game. They're in the driver's seat to win that side of the ACC and they could play in the ACC championship game. So this game if BC wins this game, not only is it a program changer. It is a chance to win a title, which is a lot of these seniors had wanted to do. And it it makes a big statement ABC just opened a brand new indoor facility and their their facilities. Now are on par with a lot of these schools that they were lagging behind and anytime, you get this national recognition you start to see the wave that helps in recruiting and DC has seen that BC's never going to be a team like light cleansing or Alabama or even Ohio State that that can get those types of recruits BC relies on a lot of three star recruits that that are going to work hard that are smart kids that need time to develop. But then every so often they. Get those special kids the Dylan the Matt Ryan's the lewke, but even Lucan Matt weren't big stars. But they developed into into big stars. And thankfully, Jim Harbaugh wanted to turn J Dylan the Noorani excuse me a linebacker. So that he changed from his commitment to Michigan and decided to come to BC 'cause he wanted to play running back very interesting with that stuff. Obviously, we play such an important thing that you can actually show your talent. Scott your mic quarterback whisper, Mike quarterback guru before we like to go. I got to ask you what the hell is wrong with Aaron Rodgers in my Green Bay Packers. You'll have all the answers that I need. Well, I think he is. Frustrated with a little bit of some of his younger receivers that a lot of what Aaron Rodgers does is how he sees the cover how he sees coverage and everything working against him. And if you see some of the stories that have been out there were guys in the secondary have been like, you know, we try to disguise a blitz. And all of a sudden, I see Aaron laughing at me. And when you have that feeling back, it's gotta feel helpless, and I think Aaron's a little frustrated with his receivers either not being on the same page or not executing the a level in which they need to do. You know, we've talked about going back and forth on on with him. And Tom Tom Brady a lot and Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time. But Aaron Rodgers may be the most physically talented quarterback that anyone's ever seen with his ability to use his feet to create station in his arm talent is is unlike any you know, any other I've seen, but I think he's just a little frustrated with personnel and with his coach right now and after this past weekend when the patriots did such a good job of containing him in the park. Enforcing and not letting him get out by the pocket where he causes a lot of damage. I think that really started to get them. He he did make some plays. And they they miss them opportunities. But even in the NFL is like I mentioned before is that there's so many times there's only so many plays in the game that had the difference between winning and losing in. Sometimes it comes down to those three to five plays in some team where it's Brady hit. And Josh, Gordon. The the the the defensive back just Mississippi in that touchdown or just a failed. You know, failed fourth down conversion and other things that are just just inches away of happening. If those place, switch the outcome changes. So it's it's the fine line in the NFL. It's just so tight. And I think you know, you never kind of Aaron Rodgers why team out of it? And they'll they'll be in the mix at the end as you see things play out because he's just too good in two talented Tanabe. Yeah. And the talent so equal in the NFL. I mean, there's no teams out there like the eighties forty Niners of the early nineties. Cowboys. The salary cap goes that ability, and you know, a lot of people in Green Bay are happy with what they've surrounded Aaron Rodgers with like I think they feel that they've kind of wasted. Whether it's not enough on defense or not giving them enough weapons. I think a lot of people are frustrated by that because they don't want. They feel like they're wasting his best years. Right. Yeah. Absolutely. And I think if they don't make the playoffs you see Mike McCarthy gone in probably be the next coach of the Cleveland Browns with his now, he's not coming to the brand. Yes, he is. He's closer John Dorsey, Mike McCarthy's coming to the Lincoln Riley is coming to the bride. That's what you want acre shock the whole world..

"Extremely sloppy first quarter for the offense. I got to look at the scoreboard right now and say, you know, what we're fortunate don't be down seven zero. And they gotta be great for their defense for keeping them in this one. You said what? Eight to nine possessions would be the recipe for Georgia Tech. Clemson only had two in the first quarter. Yup. Is a be back as Georgia Tech will open the second quarter at the Clemson forty four yard line to Quan Marshall under center one receiver to the right Koch will goes in motion left takes pitch left trying to get around. Lynch blocks can't get to the edge out of bounds near the forty five yard line shop by Clemson in pursuit gain of one Nolan Turner, the strong safety forced about and Turner was really only one about four or five guys there when I was watching tape. I saw this plane. I thought to myself it's going to be tough the sweet plays in the extremely tough. It's this Clemson defense because of the speed they have they got speed all over the field at all three levels this Clemson defense. They've got speed loss of a yard that type of the forty six yard line. Second down and eleven from the left cash for Georgia Tech seriously, the back on the right edge this time, they'll go to the right looking option Marshall, fix the pitch toxin at the fifty. They're going back even more back to the forty nine yard line in the late flag comes in. From the referee out on the backside might be a horse collar custody. Jalen Williams and Austin Bryant on the tackle. Referee's microphone it looks. Like it wasn't functioning there. But it was a horse collar. They call it a horse collar. I couldn't tell if it was Austin Bryant, it was I'm Brian. But a very very fortunate. Call right there for Georgia Tech because they had to quantum Marshall stop for a loss. And they were about to set up yet. Another third down to fifteen we've seen how those those have gone so far for this offense. Extremely fortunate to basically keep the drive alive because I think third and fifteen if I'm Paul Johnson this point the game. I'm probably going to hand it off. Fifteen yard penalty on that course collar. They Mark it up the left hash all the way to the thirty one yard line of Clemson automatic first down block rolls opening minute of the second quarter, Georgia Tech as deep as the Clemson seventeen on expert series. They have it at the thirty one here, and I down and ten. Ripple option. Very tight line of scrimmage out on the left side left hash to Touqan Marshall under center, Gibbs it. Up the middle. Thirty one yard line. No gain for Jordan Mason, the be bag J D Davis. Weakside linebacker that time got the stopped. JD? Davis has that a nice job? So far. Kindle Joseph was out with. We think a growing injury today to make the trip to Atlanta all ACC performer. Jimmy Davis is going to have to step up and play. Well, and so far he's done just advocacy. I'm looking on the field right now. Clemson safeties are probably six or seven yards from the line of scrimmage. You. Gotta take a shot and loosen. These guys up at some point this football game. The only thrown one pass this afternoon. Second down and ten at the Clemson thirty one option to the right key Marshall trying to slip through the whole. But who else JD Davis? Once again is there and stops at the twenty eight yard line for a gain of three. And it'll bring up third down. Marshall set a school record last year ran for eleven hundred and forty six yards a school record for a quarterback rushing. But only completed thirty seven percent of his passes slightly up this year to forty seven percent. And here comes a third down and six from the Clemson twenty eight yard line there. One for four on third down in the ballgame. Trailing seven nothing Marshall understand are going to pitch it to the right side may sit out of the right numbers thirty and he's not going to get the first not even close down at the twenty six might have got a yard at JD Davis again with a tackle for Clemson. Well, I can tell you one player from Clinton who spent some serious time in the film room this week, and that's JD Davis. The obviously solace opportunity today to get some significant playing time with KENDALL Joseph out, and he is making the most of it. He has been flying around this football field. And he he seems like he's a riding at the ball before. It's even pits. A lot of times. Great job by Judy Davis in the early parts of this game to make an impact. Right and king didn't get a chance at a forty three yard attempt to career long last time because of an offside they'll try from forty-three. Here placement is down kick is up to the left at it is no good. Why'd left? Brenton king missing on the forty three yard field goal attempt. Again. Georgia Tech crosses the fifty and doesn't come away with any points. Timeout here in Atlanta, eleven fifty five to go. Second quarter, Clemson seven Georgia Tech nothing..
