"Boy, man, y'all want to call your boy again some tips? What's up with that Rio? This is Del Rio's decent. He's always been about being, you know, he'll play coverage and then uplifts the Del Rio is a 5 man rush. It's like 46 singles. So to me, that ain't he's never been, you know, we coached together in Baltimore for a little bit, but our schemes are 9 day different, as you know. It's crazy, man. When you think about that, you know, 'cause it's like you watch so many old school guys, Mike Nolan came back. They'll real, you look at on the other side. What does that sort? Some of these old guys in this new type of offensive. It's like offensive it has evolved and it seems like some of these older defensive systems haven't really evolved to the way that the game is going now. Yeah, well, I mean, I look at it this way, almost all these defenses these days are so vanilla and they just we're just gonna try to prevent the big play. Well, how about being aggressive and trying to make big plays in attack in attacking your opponent? People don't do that anymore. And you know, there's some do, but a lot of these guys don't know how. You know, there's some of these guys that just, you know, two, three years experience. And then you have some of these older guys that have never been about that. So to me, you know, I haven't been impressed. I'm not impressed with how the league plays defense anymore. You don't have any buddy rinds out there, you damn sure don't have a buddy Ryan. And you damn sure don't have a wreck right out there anymore. The closest thing we have to that is Bill Belichick, his style of play. And I get it. He's always been a great one. All right, there's no question about it. But there's very few and far between that are that are aggressive. I think the guy with the Cardinals has done a good job there. Some nice job with that defense turning that defense around. But man, some of these, I mean, you know, Todd Bowles at time he doesn't have his problem is they don't have any any ballers in the back end. If he did, that would be different. But, you know, it's just it's hard to watch sometimes if you're a fan of defense. That is, man. The lack of creativity, innovation. It's crazy, man. Just watching dudes get RPO and be put on their heels the entire time. I tell you what, you know, it's been a lot of, you know, respect thrown out there for the lines and how hard they play and just how scrappy they are. But we really haven't given the respect. I believe to the Cincinnati Bengals who last week should have beaten the baddest man in the planet if you want to talk about Aaron Rodgers. And Joe burrow, man. I mean, I'll tell you what, man. This Cincinnati team is not going to be denied too much longer. I mean, they make some more acquisitions in the future. I mean, Cincinnati can be a destination where people would want to go. I mean, you talk about, you know, Josh Allen and how he attracted people to want to come play there. I mean, Joe burrow has the same type of bum and electric arm and electric personality..

"FanDuel dot com backslash bet the board take full advantage there. And I know you're an NBA guy are you excited for Lakers warriors to tip things off on Tuesday? I guess. I didn't really. I kind of got out of the NBA a little bit over the last couple of years. We were doing some things on totals there and yeah, just kind of went away. That's what transpired there. It's kind of all I can divulge. I've been doing as much in the NBA. As we were two years ago. Only so many hours in the day to try and cover the entire sporting landscape. You did well there. Yes, that's one reason. But as we begin to put what we saw yesterday in the National Football League in context, kind of wanted to get your thoughts on some of the main takeaways for everything you saw transpire thus far during and a week 6. Books did not have a good day from the sounds of it. That was a rough one for the house. It wasn't a great weekend for us. That's for sure. It was one of our worst I shouldn't say, worse weekend. It was a down weekend for us, and although it could have changed a little bit. We had Dallas late I'm sorry, Jesus. Rough morning. We had the Patriots plus the points late in that did not go well. That actually would have been the page of someone who had been in break even weekend for us. Baltimore is the one that we regretted. Not playing should have should have been there in that one. That was a game that we liked kind of broke it down. Frustrating, because you call exactly where the market's going to go. You know, you knew that game was going back to three. That was the side. That's a regret that I have this morning. He's not playing Baltimore yesterday. Well, it's also good to see other major football publications come out after in the wake of the Chargers lost, talk about how they need to be more effective and efficient on third and fourth downs. Pretty sure that's a narrative on third and fourth down? Yeah, on third and fourth down, the Chargers have to be better than excuse me. The luck ran out for the Chargers on third and fourth down. I'm glad that finally got out there in the wake of a 34 6 loss instead of people actually talking about that beforehand because I'm not quite sure what podcast had mentioned the fact that the Chargers had to be better with an early down success rate if they were going to continue to be a freight train rolling down the tracks. That one was give Baltimore credit. That was a quick turnaround. And the energy they had to exert Monday night. Right, it wasn't just one of those games where it's like, you know, they played Monday night and that thing was wrapped up minutes into the second quarter. That was one where they had to fight back. They exerted a ton of energy. Down double digits against the colts and then to turn around against an opponent of the Chargers caliber, I thought it was really, really impressive. And ultimately, Brandon staley's style. Just didn't work. He hasn't changed things. I'm all for the way he is constructing his defense. But at some point, you do need to match up to your opponent and play his style that's a little bit more conducive to each and every single opponent you play versus just saying, hey, we're going to do what we do. And I'm making that sound extremely simple. But again, did not put a ton of guys in the box yesterday. And that really allowed Baltimore to control that game. And then obviously the third and fourth down luck, the Chargers just didn't have. And the ravens were able to play keyboard. I was looking this morning. Charges only had 21 minutes of possession. And then, of course, as the article alluded to, that Herbert heroics finally ended, and the charges were four for 16 on third and fourth down, and the average 1.8 yards per play on those two down. So the pitch pour early down offense the charge of basically had all season finally came to bite them against a top 5 defense on third and fourth down in the ravens. Now it did help Mike Williams was banged up. Chargers couldn't really attack Baltimore where they were most vulnerable, but I don't think that would have changed things. The ovens did nothing. I mean, the points they put up on the board were basically turnover induced. And it was a very simple game plan. It was one that you kind of see play out. And I think that's why it was so frustrating to me. He's like, you're like, we're able to be able to run the ball here. Yeah, if they just kind of sit back and are good on early downs, I got a really good third and fourth down defense. They should survive this. And both things came to fruition and I don't have a penny on the Raven. So quite frustrating there. Well, when you look at the ravens, their upcoming opponent will be in the division against the Cincinnati Bengals. I know a lot of people go, well, the bangles beat up on the Lions, but as we remind folks all the time around here. It's not about just winning. It's about exceeding odds of meeker's expectations. And the band goes put an absolute thumping on Detroit in what many perceived as a flat spot. We know there was a battle back and forth down to three, three and a half, even some force on game day, but it was more about Cincinnati defensively pain that really opened my eyes. I mean, they held the Lions largely in check from start to finish until Detroit moved the ball to make the box score look a little bit better with some garbage time yards and points. That was a really interesting game from a market perspective. Because early in the week, I want to say it was either Monday after we were done recording or first thing Tuesday. It might have been late Monday. You know, I got a note sent to me like, hey, really like the lions in this spot. And that was the initial move from three and a half down to three. And I just like can't do that one. The matchup is just horrible. And then eventually we saw another group spring into action twice. They laid the three. It went out to like three -20, and then they laid it and laid that again and it went out to three and a half and as you alluded to on game day, even some of the sharper shops trickled out to four before I guess there were some value hunters on the lines. Cincinnati, though, to your point, it's not shocking. They spent like a boatload of money on defense the last two off seasons. And it's paying off. And then they fought in their own class and dominated. I would say they actually went down in class, right? This wasn't Aaron Rodgers in the packers offense. This was Jared Goff. Detroit had 3.8 yards per play in a 43% success rate. And coming into that game, I started looking around because I just felt like I was missing something. I was like, man, there is a real battle here. Someone sees a massive edge, whether it was the Lions or the bangles, guys were fire in that game. And I went and looked.

"cincinnati bengals" Discussed on Behind the Steel Curtain

"Dislike. I was here for. Let's go i don't. You're not a steelers anymore. Let's go guys go over up here in the pacific. It couldn't have been any better for me Seattle watching those guys play. But anyhow looking at the steelers match this sunday we will. Of course ask james routine in the second half his thoughts on all things bengals. But what's what's your overall your first overall kind of impression of the bengals as we head into this game the first. Afc north clash for the steelers this year out. What what are your general thoughts on the bengals and how the steelers can match up with them. I don't even know this team like they changed half their defensive personnel. A whole bunch of brand new players Their offensive line. They went out and like didn't draft. Kanesa will but if you and everyone's like oh their offense allies trashing joe borough killed and then if you look at like pass rush win ray. Espn's pass rush win rate. Pass right past block win. Rei and pass and run block win right man if i could talk. The bengals are laying your job. Way up the list offensive lines in the nfl. Like do anything Seventeen past win rate this year. So far i don't i mean they've played anybody but chicago is khalil mack. You're still. You're still facing some talent out there. So i mean in the receiver course. Different the quarterback. Joe borough you barely saw last year and he wasn't really anything yet but now i don't know what to expect from his team at all. I really don't accept. I hope they still stink. Like armored vehicles are like come on guys you can still be the bengals. Don't do that whole we're not the bengals anymore. At least one team. Ohio has to suck. Right right yeah. I'm pretty sure that's a constitutional law. I'm canadian so. I'm pretty sure that that's that's how that works out. Any who um so moving along in our in our programming here. That's the word i'm looking for. What what do you think of. Mike hilton are i. can look at him as cincinnati bengals playing against the pittsburgh steelers. Is he someone that's going to kind of dominate to the steelers the steelers find a way to dominate him. That's going to be an interesting thing. I was because we were all like. Are they gonna use him right at all To go look up the numbers. He's actually been blitzing there. You're using was he's got a couple cuts bull tackles for loss coupled. Pressures hasn't gotten a soccer. Qb hit yet. but they they. He was on Someone was interviewing. He was talking about he. He's looking forward to trying to hit big ben and he was like it was one of those moments where he's like. I've never gotten a hidden like we're not allowed to hit. Then you have to kind of touch him. He's like look forward to actually like lay in a good one on him and trying to tackle him. So i am excited. I still see. I have a problem not liking. Mike and i can't. I can't really do that yet. So if he comes into really starts playing while against us that could change very quickly or stop one of the things that sat like now the steelers have all this extra money and they totally could have kept my hilton alec looking at the books. That play against the raiders. When henry rugs had sixty whatever you're a touchdown traynor would kinda like struggled his way through blitz off that who might kill now play in the backyard. That's a sack and we're still in that game. It's it's a. It's a tenth of a second difference between a sixty one yard touchdown and a hit where the ball goes haywire. Because you hit him early by tilton what ban. They're like two tenths of a second earlier. It's just that he's that guy you know. There's not many of them. Yeah oh goodness gracious. Well you're living you learn in the nfl and it's just part of the business but They face the former steeler on sunday. That's definitely going to be fun. One I will be looking for my killing the There on the field there watching him probably closer than anyone else in the bengals defense but another name. That's there a new guy trey hendrickson. He was The master For the saints before he joins cincinnati in the off season of course replacing carl lawson who of course himself went on to be a jet in and get injured. What do you think of hendrickson and see someone that could give the steelers offense align fits. I'm i'm a little worried about him. But i think he was more a product. He was benefit of on it to the saints defense If i right he was one of the like athletic freaks of the pass. Rushers like the two thousand eighteen draft. He was like one of those crazy. Athletes two thousand seventeen. Yeah he was. He was one of the guys up there with. Tj watt that. We're like they're like. Wow these guys listen crazy crazy athleticism i. I don't worry about him too much but he has. He has their most dangerous pass rusher. he's the guy who wrote to look out for But i'm not. I'm not too worried about their pass. Rush so i had an article run out today on behind steel curtain dot com about offensive line. Play excuse me and how the steelers could try to improve their line..

"Versus cincinnati. Joe borough wins this. One with about twenty seconds left in overtime. It was a play that minnesota said they knew was coming. They practice it. they just couldn't stop it. Are we worried about the vikings nora. Yeah don't tell people that. I don't say that out loud guys. It's not a great. Look the vikings. Have a lot of issues here in particular. I think they probably really hope that christian dera saw recovers from his grand jury pretty quickly because they could have used help on the line so the couple of things number one job omits. Big ten froze. I knew he would. I always believed in borough. I'm so happy for that. That that whole core. They're like i just. I just said a lot of things that were a little bit optimistic. And i'm happy to be proven right. I think that process tangles process. Take i just. I'm excited about that. They should be extremely worried. Minnesota has has capability

"I'm i agree with a lot of what you said here. I wanted to be high on the cincinnati bengals. I really did. Because i like some of their off-season moves on defense love lucy. Mike hilton subodh. Trey hendrickson coming. Over from the new orleans. Saints with carl lawson leaves them to go to the jets that could trey hundreds and now lawson's out for the year. And i just a big joe borough fan and i kind of liked the pieces. They have on this offense but i've detailed it kind of a lot already. The line stinks hard to feel confident about this team. Zac taylor six twenty five to one in two years as the head coach here. So yeah i. I don't think this team's going to be very good. It sucks because i want them to be good. Because i love borough but i think we're on the same page here give me your prop thought and then i have a couple that i want to get to as well sure my thought is. This is one of my favorite player props. I don't bet a lot of these. This is one that stood out to me with any kind of schedule analysis this joe boroughs passing yards prop under so it's between four. It's forty to fifty rivers. I've seen forty three hundred. It's anywhere between those two numbers. Basically wherever you look and i'm interested in under and it's a very specific reason if you look at teams that have like potential for weather scenarios late in the season and like how their schedule setup. Sometimes you just see a ton of games that set up to have the potential to have fewer passing yards and then basically because they're just more potential for bad weather doesn't mean it's going to happen but like that's the number that's being set in the market is usually like authentic. Everything goes fine number. And what i'm saying is there's a pretty good chance everything's not gonna go find one because i don't know joe is going gonna play the entire season which i think is a reasonable question to ask and if you miss his anytime you win and then the other thing that comes into play here is if you look at the back half of cincinnati schedule so starting in week twelve. They play five home games for those who don't know cincinnati late in the year. Big win team and big kind of potential bad weather team and then they also have to road trips so five home games with potentially bad weather and then at denver at cleveland are the other two games. That's all the final seven weeks of the year. So i just think potential for low passing yards. This is a really high number with that in mind. I like boroughs under a lot. All right so. Joe berle under passing yards for. Can i want to talk about the three receivers. Tamar chase t higgins tyler boyd chase. Nine hundred. seventy. Five and a half higgins one thousand and a half tyler boyd..

"Game of week. One like that's completely unreasonable. Given what we know about the jets and like again like bring it up like carolina's got an iffy situation. A left tackle like no loss like this. It's going to hurt them and it'll be more. Ken said not much to do season-long here. But it's something that will impact the game by game handicaps that we have and maybe allow us to make some valuable. That's on the jets as we move towards and through the nfl. all right. let's get to the two days now. We talked about the steelers. Let's get to a team. We've made me the team that we've talked to most about this. Nfl miami miami right right is the is the cincinnati bengals win total six and a half minus one twenty two the under at our show sponsor bed rivers plus one hundred to the over bengals about plus infinity to win the afc north minus three sixty to come in last plus four seventy five to make the playoffs minus six. Seventy two miss. We've got a series of player props as well borough four thousand two hundred fifty passing yards twenty five touchdowns. Joey finish brought up in the last hour. Six to one to become back player of the year week. One the bengals three and a half point home underdogs against the minnesota. Vikings can with a total of forty eight. What about cincinnati and bets. That you might have on them this season. This is i mean people listen to pod slash show all the time know that i have an under win. Total it on them already at six and a half and i'm rooting for it to get better as we go. Let's see what happens. Sure is there a case that they're going to be better. Yeah you can make a lot of excuses for why. Zack taylor is six twenty five and one in his two years as head coach You know the quarterbacks that he's had to work with once bro gets hurt especially like he enters a terrible situation and they were terrible team. So is that a reflection on him or reflection on the franchise and is there room for the team to get better. Sure like you can make that case definitely but one thing that strikes me is not so much okay. Great like the quarterback argument is of course valid and and worthy of consideration They've also the last two years. Exacto has been there been and that same defensive coordinator both years liu and a room. Oh forget i guess last name but sounds like you'll next door to me in staten island. New room oh yes. It's not just baked clams by the way. Oh absolutely loves them. Not just as a quarterback has been hurt but this defense same coordinator all three years and he's the coordinator again this year. Twenty seventh and twenty eighth and takeaways. The last two years like is there a reasonable expectation that that's going to improve. If they're a bottom five sixteen takeaways again like broken even be better and they can go under this number very easily like one of the most important things that defense can do. Obviously just give you a short field force turnovers. There's been no evidence that team has been able to do that and it's not just that it's there's been no evidence and they're keeping everyone in place again so it just like. What is a reasonable expectation for this team. The schedule is very interesting real quick..

Coming up the season who who do we think of potentially be valuable outside of the big boys coming up this year in the nba. Power our final hour of the show. All our bets for tonight major league baseball and week. Two of the nfl. Preseason kicks off tonight in philadelphia. We got the patriots and the eagles. And we'll also have a live update on the northern trust in live vets. That could potentially be made as we head into friday again. Let's start a days here. With the pittsburgh steelers polarizing team both last year in the regular season for us here on the show and this offseason on the show. I've kind of been down on the steelers a pretty much the entire offseason here. So pittsburgh's win. Total sitting at eight and a half ben rivers minus one thirty four to the under pittsburgh plus four fifty to win the afc north plus one ten to come in third behind baltimore and cleveland. In whichever order you put them in. Presumably plus one seventy to make the playoffs plus minus two ten minus two ten to miss the postseason some player props. We've got nausea harris. One thousand and a half rushing yards nausea of course five to one to be offensive rookie of the year. Ben rothlisberger four thousand and a half passing yards his problem yards. "You never got a sense for that when he was in front of a camera so i think some guys they just keep to themselves. I dont where you would like to see that side of them. I don't think they'd ever show it in front of a camera so We've got a game coming up saturday away. I do have one more. He's the news sorry We assigned irwan firm staff. The offensive lineman who. I'm very about literal. He's kinda swiss army knife of linemen. We had him parts of the last two seasons right. He's been in and out and he's wanna be be as guys from arizona and so he knows the system. He knows i called him. Yeah being calls them every time. We're short anytime we need somebody. He's here so he is back. We've had so many injuries with our depth. So i think we need a little more. There's gonna offer that for this preseason game so i'm excited He'll be back yet. It seems like the offensive line. Of course you know fi find good office. Lyman is probably the hardest thing to do in the nfl and We we've got a great offensive line and we've got a little bit of depth but the always want as much depth as you can on offense lags those guys get hurt and you. You have to have somebody good to replace him. You can't have a battle offense blaming he can't it ship zilt immediately half kansas city. Who earn burn. It'll matter they could have had a brick wall. We were going to get too. that's true. Okay snow we are playing the cincinnati bengals at home Be a has said that. Are starters are gonna get reps so everyone's gonna play. That is different. From what the bengals doing their holton. Several people a lot of veterans. They're like we don't really need to see really. Yeah have you looked at their roster. I i only recognized like two people even the people they have holding out that they're holding out there like all these veterans tony. I'm like i don't even know who they are. Are you serious. They're going against the super bowl champs and they're gonna hold her eyes out. Yeah no oh yeah. We're gonna have a great year net well and Joe borough is not playing and they don't even know if he's going to play at all in preseason. Well he tours. Acl mc l. i think part-owned pc all the all the cl's he's all those the in december so he's coming back from that and i was reading on it and he Is apparently a little skittish in the pocket. As a lotta quarterbacks get when they come back from injury and so there was an article. I think from like nbc or something where they said it's mental not physical and he. You know like yeah. I'm scaring ahead. So that's probably why they don't want him in against us. 'cause yeah that would make sense. Adp and shocker. Or just chomping at the bit. So on the buccaneers side. I just want to talk briefly about what we are going to be looking at this..

"Depressed. I know well you came to me you crying and tear than your eyes when you told me about it and then a crier you are a crier but everything you you're very good at holding it in long story about that but anyhow Besides that we have a good show for you guys but let's get right down to it. We're going to start off with the infamous fact checks and follow. Would we need an intro. We've been saying that for what five years into some type of catchy tune for them all right the started off now. Most of them are follow ups. I think there's only one fact check on there so again we're doing pretty good with these fact checks messing up too much. Follow up okay. Both the tampa bay. Times and greg. All of the athletic wrote books they wrote books on the buccaneers twenty. Twenty season in their super bowl win the tampa bay times. The author is listed as tampa bay times. Which is very straight. I don't know why there might be inside at my say contributors or something but the group projects with the team effort will. It should be because of the forty dollars book. Yeah kenan. I was just a compilation of all that reporting from the year. That'll take they do. Yeah that'd be does not when you be pissed off the internet. Why pay forty dollars. Will it would make them look really bad to think because of all the crap they pulled on your. Yeah the tampa bay. Times book cost forty dollars. Greg allman book cost fifteen now. The time sold. At least that i know of two hundred and seventy two copies. So that's ten. That's eleven grand right there. You know so. It goes back to what i was saying. These guys profited off of the buccaneers doing well and even going against the media trying to badger so there's that ballo who drafted oj. Howard was a lovey or cutter. It was cut her two thousand seventeen draft. Okay but in my defense Cutter was the offensive coordinator. So technically you well. Mayweather vs. Paul: What Influencers Mean for Boxing

"Baby has been covering boxing for fifteen years and he's currently on that beat and the cincinnati bengals for espn. I got a bit something man like. This is an episode. i am pretty conflicted about. It's an episode. That part of me thinks we should not touch with a fifty foot pole and the other part of me is the guy who pitched it and insisted on having you on the show today floyd mayweather one of the greatest boxers we have ever seen is making his return to the ring. He hasn't fought since two thousand seventeen. He is fifty and oban as a professional boxer. It's very clear that he is so much better than his opponent. Logan paul who is he's a social media sensation most generous way to put it. Who became a boxer who was own one in his boxing career. After losing to another youtuber back in two thousand nineteen so the absurdity of all of that ben the absurdity of this economy. What do you make of. Just how big deal this is. It is very weird and kind of surreal to see what's going on and it's probably going to be one of the most lucrative events in combat sports in recent years. And then when you when you when you couple that between all the stuff outside of the ring. It's not hard to have internal conflict over kind of what's happening this weekend. But all of that being said it is happening this weekend and in the fact that it is still quite remarkable on several levels. When you look at what's going on here. I think it's a testament of anything else as to kind of the fact that these guys have built a fan base in a brand so large that they're able to do this and honestly you have to villains going against each other. These are kindred spirits. People who as you report in your piece who share a certain blueprint that had been constructed specifically by floyd mayweather so the mayweather blueprint ben. That has made him this degree of successful over the years. How would you characterize that boy. Whether as good as he was in the rain i would argue that. His best asset and skill is really being able to self promote and be marketable

Inside The Russell Wilson-Seahawks Rift

"Years russell. Wilson has been wanting to throw the ball more and at the start of this year. It finally happened russell. Wilson was not good in the first half of the twenty twenty season. He was excellent deep cap touchdown. Seattle you run down there and set in his answer. Any better than that was fourth in yards per attempt. Weeks one through nine i. In passing. touchdown percentage was second in passer rating. Wilson keeps as default talk. He was legit. The best player in the league madden gave him a ninety nine overall rating during the season because he was cooking notion as he throws an accident. Edi feeds defensive player of the years like russell. Lula's legitimately the best guy in football games of the season then week nine arrived and they had this game against the buffalo bills that you recently wrote about. Can you tell us what happened in that game. And afterwards what happened is russell had to cook in the kitchen. Just kind of just caught on. Fire his paycheck wine with a sack at a takeaway from russell wilson. I actually watched that game with a former cr defensive and cliff april and teased talking me through it. And he's like russ's off he's trying to do too much and i think turned it over like four times. He threw a pick on the goal. Line throws for the jordan with tyco. I think that really turned the tables for the whole team. After that loss where they gave up forty four points and turned it over a bazillion times and got embarrassed in buffalo. Well what i would tell you that. I don't recognize that game. We haven't seen the look like that and it's a game that i don't have any place in my brain for. He told us he didn't even have any space in his brain for that game. That's very important subjects right like the fact that he considered that not seahawks. Football was influential the rest of the year. Well the following week against the rams things. I guess only got worse. Wilson throws and the other one four darius williams second game. I know that there are better days ahead. I'll use a baseball now but sometimes you go up to the plate you know and you don't have your way today mike. You and our colleagues. Mike sando jason jank's wrote about a meeting. That happened shortly after that loss to the rams can you take us inside that meeting room and just explain what went down russia's meeting with the coaches normal game planning type of meeting and he has suggestions he is giving input usually does and his suggestions just weren't dismissed. There were dismissed in a way that russell didn't feel appreciate it. And i think that is really important. I'm sure they disagree in every meeting ever but in this particular instance rust belt that he was not being appreciated so rushed stormed out was basically this idea that. How dare anyone in this building. Be dismissive of my ideas. I am of the quarterback was almost like kevin durant warriors when he was like no way up. I'm kevin durant russell wilson and he rustled perceives him to be someone who has succeeded. In spite of what's been around him not because of running for his life making the pro bowl with battle lines perceive that to be like the story of his career. And you get to week eleven. And it's like do. Just chill out. We got this no. You don't don't get it. I got it and that forced him out the door. Russell in the second half of the season was which is not himself like he was twenty eighth in yards per attempt in his final eight games he was sixteenth. In a touchdown percentage nineteenth in passer rating. These are bad numbers. These are not just like below average twenty nine yards per attempt man that was lower than the cincinnati bengals. Even when the circumstances are bad around russell he's been good enough to elevate situation still played inefficient level and twenty twenty was the first time it was like. Wow he's not able to elevate the lack of talent or execution of preparation around him and it produced like some of the worst numbers of his career certainly produced the worst playoff game of his career against the rams in the wild round sitting meeting big. Who's going into other sack four sacks two takeaways the interception return for the touchdown and floyd now all right. Let's fast forward a few weeks to the super bowl. The seahawks have been knocked out by the rams in the wildcard round and russell. Wilson is at super bowl. Fifty five in tampa bay sitting with none other than commissioner. Roger goodell mike. Tell us what you found in your reporting about russell. Wilson's experience at the super bowl. You know it's really interesting. Because i tweeted during the super bowl. That antonio brown caught a touchdown from tom brady in front of russell. Wilson there is the pass for the touchdown. What drive a super bowl. Winning drive that brady's only done throughout his whole career. I kind of just said it like star cast the as a joke. Not really thinking about how russell fell and then as our reporting i was like okay so i i was right like he is really upset. And it's so many factors. There is the fact that tom brady is in. The super bowl is the fact tom. Brady's they're playing pine. A good line is the fact that tom brady is playing in a system. That gives him some atonomy like got to pick players gronk. Antonio brown is the fact that mahomes is there again laying for again in a system that like essentially like his talents. The last time also played in the super bowl loss of tom brady seven years later prime many years. Tom brady's back. I suppose in a soup. Kitchen fuming so during the superbowl. He's texting his quarterback coach. And just close. Friend jake heaps. He's a local radio guy. Here jake to set it on the radio. He's talking about how russ was missed during the game texting him. They'll look the he had was in reflective of the text messages. I was receiving russell wilson. Just ultimately the overall sentiment was that he was mad that he was not lying in this thing and then russell spoke to the shortly after the game show. What's up with our line. You see that. Winning requires a good line and the gist of peace response. As far as i was told is about faith. And just you know we got this. And that just wasn't good enough for us

"Putting your livelihood, your family's future in the hands of people like you, Tony Pike. That's a dangerous thing. Exactly. Look, imagine Urban sitting back like you know what? The weather is nice down there that the tax situation is nice. Right in the water. You're walking into Trevor Laurence got great golf right down the road there. Everything's good. Urban Meyer's gonna want control of a lot of stuff, right? Yeah, he didn't want the Bill O'Brien treatment, Houston. I think Jacksonville would would be okay, giving him that probably at this point, because I'm just I'm glad that health health wise he's able to get back into it. If it is a motivating factor in that sugar, let's say he doesn't let's say, let's say stakes out Tony bike and sits out of here and let's just say, and I think that Zach Taylor next year the Bengals are playoff team under Zach Taylor. I think they're Super Bowl contenders next year, the Cincinnati Bengals Jimmy Come on, they I think I think, Mark my words the playoffs next year under Zach Taylor, But let's just say you're right. And I'm wrong. And Zach Taylor winds of getting shown the door after his third season. What about Urban Meyer is the next head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. He's got ties to Cincinnati. He does, um I think the urban Meyer situation stops at the control that he would not be allowed with with Mike Brown. Yes, because he'd want to be of do things differently. He would want to say if I'm coming in, we're gonna handle things differently. And I don't think that he will give that up. But It's certainly the hot name out there right now, or Urban Meyer wants to get back into court. And if not urban, you know, Jackson was going to go out to Ryan Day. Oh, that's true. Yeah, I heard that too, Right? What about Wait a minute. What about Marvin Lewis? Does he Washington Jackson, bring Marbury You want Marvin? Back now? My only concern I was. I'm glad to see Zach Taylor back cause I was like, What if Mike Brown's like you know what You see, He's got that practice bubble up there. Let's just let's poach Luke Fickell let Z Well, there was discussion about that. That's a lot of the Bangles. Save money by allowing look think of a coach on Saturdays and Sundays like Dan Horde. Yes, he'd be like the Dan horde of damaged and would travel after the using great the Bangles. Well, how about this? Why not let Dan hard? Just be the damn head coat? Gone. He could do the games from the sideline call. The game's always call in place. Yes, he could be broadcast play that play while allowing listeners to know what's coming. That would be that would be a novel. Talk about inside the game right now, that would be worth wife and friendly. Dan Dan Horde, the next coach of the Bank today at noon, Tony Pike is on this and many other things. What's happening on the show today at noon? Well, I think we're gonna talk a lot about this incident was an You know, the The bright future. With now. Zach Taylor locked in as the head coach, at least for next year and will unfortunately have to discuss. Well, I get one more year. See if it's the coach, or if it's the it's the pieces around the coach because you've got to be excited getting Joe Burrow back. And if your job, Earl you're sitting here, like okay, what are we going to do in this offseason to address the offense? Well, what happens? AJ Green now you've got now You gotta hold there. Yeah. We did use anyway. I mean, was it was kind of sad again hitting anyone touch yesterday. Yeah, like, find a way like that should be in his swan song ever released. Gonna get your screen, write something and that goes to look good. Do you think we think it's It's meaningless when you talk about wanting free agents to come to Cincinnati? Look at how the Carlos Dunlap left. Leave the Gino Atkins situation that you look at Andy Dalton on what happened there. AJ Green yesterday as opposed to that look what Bruce Arians in Tampa Bay did yesterday gave Antonio Brown Three shovel passes late in that game to allow him to get to the number he needed for a roster for a contract vote on this free agents. Look at that stuff. They want to know that they're going to get taken care of, and It's sad with how how great a J. Green has been in Cincinnati to see him go out like he did this year. Just a really just cause super quiet year and that's by design, so he's gone. He'll go somewhere else. And probably one of the good number two somewhere. He'll be fine as it always is. The case Tony Pike today at noon over on ESPN 15 30. Thanks again for the time, Brother Appreciate it happened. It was a pleasure. "Mike. Tomlin was in front of the podium. The virtual podium for add a thing. Well just we just talked to him next because the steelers had just lost twenty seven to seventeen against the cincinnati bengals on monday night football. Might tom had spoken to the media after the game. Obviously until on tuesday on a short week leeann week sixteen. The pittsburgh steelers absolutely need a win. And mike tomlin had a lot of questions to answer as the steelers. Prepare for the indianapolis colts to come to heinz field in the season. Finale there at the big ketchup bottle. He started things off of the recap of the cincinnati bengals game. He said the loss still stings. The steelers simply just have to perform better but he also mentioned that some things about team went from bad to worse and he was mainly talking about the team's poor starts. He talked about three turnovers in the first half essentially spotting the bengals seventeen points. He said it wasn't just the offense though. The defense failed to get the the bengals the field even with those turnovers. They never forced field goals. They must they gave up fourteen points in the last two turnovers. He's just a very poor start to the game. He said the score that the steelers face the way that they wanted to operate offensively. They couldn't lean on the run the whether they wanted to. He said the nonetheless with all of that said in his bad as the team was. He's vans cannot expect sweeping changes. He's a they just have to do it better when he meant it. He's talking about he. S to the steelers have to perform better. They have to plan better. He is still confident. You can't expect the head coach. The same thing different. He is still confident in this football team with the coaches that they have they. They need to shut their mails and go to work

"Bridgestone. Crowd partners of the Cincinnati Bengals Keep things moving along this Monday night. It's all things Bangles Bangles Light of the Bengals radio Network in 700, WLW, Lance McAllister and Dave Lap on what a treat to welcome in our next guest. He's the Bengals director of college scouting. That would be Mike Potts, Mike. Welcome to Bengals line. Hey, guys. Thanks for having me on Mike. I'll tell you what, What a job this past draft. I mean, director College scouting. Put the bat on the ball every single round. I mean, it's incredible. What this rookie classes doing? Take us through your thoughts on on these guys a little bit. Give us a thumbnail sketch of what you think of some of these guys. Yeah, I think overall I've been really happy. I think everybody's been been really happy with the efforts. We've gotten out of this rookie class, especially In these circumstances, and you know, not having a full offseason and our coaches have done a great job developing these guys getting them up to speed both mentally and physically. I think the bye bye week. It's here at a good time for these guys. Look back and reflect on what they've done the first half of the season. Like you said, We've got contract contributions out of all seven of our draft picks. The majority of them have AH, have seen real significant snaps. For us on DH, You know I've got I've got positive things to say about all of these guys, you know? So I'm looking for looking for improvement. Hopefully in the second half of the year from all of these guys, but I think things are ah. Things are really optimistic with this draft class, and I think we've got some building blocks that we can We can work with going forward. Andi think this class will help us win a lot of games and future Like what really jumped out to me. The Tennessee game. You get contributions from all seven draft picks II total 342 snaps from this draft class last week and 203 on offense, 95 on defense 44 on special teams. That's a heck of a contribution from one class in one game. Yeah, I think you thought, Tio, you know, so the class really, really contribute. Probably They're there. Most significant snaps like you said in this past week. You know, some of it was due to injury on the O line. Obviously, we have the three injuries in the Cleveland game. So Hakeem and Energy ends up getting his first career start on. Doesn't really nice job, you know, collect. Karim has continued to come on for us, You know, from that edge outside linebacker defensive end Roll for us in the two young linebackers that we took in the 3rd and 4th round of continued, Teo, you know, take on more and more of a role as the years has gone on, you know, So, like I said, Hopefully, that's a sign of things to come. And the's guys just rolls just continue to grow here over these thieves last eight games the last half of the year not only the rookie class that you Put together for this year. But what about the veterans in the in the age of covert 19 to get BJ Finney Quinton, Spain, who I mean this guy historic what he was able to pull off and do the fact that you guys were out there hitting the streets and literally getting guys off the streets and making trades and doing things you're doing to. Ah, supplement and fulfill the roster. One necessary is just remarkable. I mean, you guys really deserve a huge pat on the back for that effort. Yes, it's been awesome to see. I mean, to be honest with you the You know the past to dress we reorganized, restructured our personnel department. So the majority of my efforts go towards the draft in college scouting with Ah You know, lending my opinion and helping hand on the pro side when it's needed, So ah, lot of that. A lot of those accolades should go to Steve or dystopic on the pro side as well as Andrew Johnson and inclusion Sarkeesian. Open him out on that side there big done a great job, Whether it's Ah To trade labor claims poaching guys off other teams, practice squads or guys that are just out there on the streets that we that we bring in for a workout. Obviously, we've had. We've had some hold the patch on the roster, whether it was through opt outs or Or injuries on and those guys have done a done a great job of Ah, pulling, pulling guys you know off, you know, from different areas that you can acquire players on the pro scouting side. And yeah, like like you mentioned with Quentin, Spain. You know, it's pretty remarkable that a guy can come in and and have that type of impact, you know, with really just being around the team for a day or two. But that's that's the environment that we're in. And And you know it doesn't It doesn't Ah, doesn't make any sense for us to sit around and complain about the circumstances I think are I think a personnel staff has done a great job of embracing the challenge and And I think I think you saw that again. You know, you mentioned the rookie class. I think some of the guys that were required on the pro scouting side in that Tennessee game is well, really, really helped us. To get that win, and hopefully that's some positive momentum that we can build a working forward Mike, Let's go big picture for Bengal fans listening kind of explain what your your day to day personally is like in this organization. Uh, like I said, the majority of of what I do is overseeing the college scouting efforts and you know, working with our other scouts to build the draft board. So I would say that the majority it's hard to put a percentage on it. You know, maybe maybe close to 80%. My time is on that. And then the other 20% is helping out Steve on the on the pro side, But the majority of my my day in this environment has been on spent on zoom calls or on the phone with college coaches. Getting information on Ah, on the college prospects for the draft. A swell is obviously watching a ton of tape on those guys. So just working through Ah, working through all the schools that are scouts Are in charge of being being the primary guy for evaluating on the college side. And then what kind of probably in the next month or so will will shift to more of a crosscheck Shayes were now I'll end up Getting in the top 100 to 150 guys that that we have grated, you know, with draftable grades, and I'll evaluate all those guys as well. And you know if I have other other sources on the coaching staff that you know, guys that I know from the past that I can Reach out to us. Well, you know, continue to gather more information on those guys and you know that's that's kind of what What my duties are in during the fall, and then and then, in the spring, you no. Come come January will move into the All Star game in the combine and produce these and things like that, So it's always something new dependent on the depending on the time of year. There's no rules. There's never a bye week. I guess for scouting along is this playing college games? There's going to be shown the watch and and, you know, coaches call and things like that. So there's never really never really a day off. In doing this stuff from we're always we're always looking to evaluate and look for players that can help us. Yeah, and you deal with some of the star players opting out, you know, not wanting to take a chance with Covitz. That's one less year of games to evaluate on guys. Maybe you have some evaluations, but some might not have been final and you wanted to see another year out of a guy that you don't see..

"You're like you're like. Drinking from a fire. I'm apple. Ramp Myself Up I. was I can't take a nap on your show. That's for sure. I want to demonstrate something because there's a saying at least in Hollywood I'm not that far from it even though we're all isolated. It's better to show than to tell so. I'm going to demonstrate something far. Listeners in for you about how to be more influential. One of the things unfortunate to do is i. On on break now, but I breakfast would Larry King every day. Although we're doing zoom calls now and something. I've noticed about Larry because Larry eighty-six. He's still going strong. Still has a show. It streamed call Larry King now on home on the on the Internet and something I've noticed what has made Larry's such an icon. Is. Here's A. Plus after. and not a minus sir, and not a topper. What that means is when he listens to people. He adds to what they're saying. He doesn't a minus it he doesn't. Get Defensive. He doesn't give advice. He doesn't give unsolicited advice on his shows, so nobody's afraid. They're going to get a GOTCHA. And he's not a topper. If you say I if you say Oh, I went to the mountains, he he's not going to say oh. That's very nice. You know we went to Europe. And, so I'm going to be a plus to something. You just said I. Hope this will add value. You're listening because you mentioned something about training and I was thinking as you were talking about and I'm. And I'm reminded of a fellow named Dan Sullivan. Dan Sullivan found something called the strategic coach and part of what Dan said is what life get comes down to his habits. Happy People have different habits than unhappy people. Successful people have different habits than unsuccessful people. And he said what a habit is is it's a discrete piece of behavior that you repeat over and over again until it becomes a habit. And it takes about a month, and in other words you train on that and you repeat on that takes discipline, but over time you internalize it, and it becomes more natural, and then you can learn another habit now why this is important under stress because I'm am a psychiatrist, but I'm also a passionate about neuroscience. Is. What happens is when we're under stress and who isn't. We have you've all heard of your adrenal glands? And what happens is your adrenal guns. Put out something called Cortisol. High Cortisol is high stress and what happens is your high cortisol triggers something in your brain called your middle and Migdal as part of your emotional brain, and when that high cortisol goes up. What happens is it triggers a migdal hijack and what that means. Is Your Migdal shunts blood away from your thinking brain. Into your survival brain and guess what taps into your training. It will tap in to what you've been trained to do almost automatically. Do you think NBA stars when. They think between shots. No, it's training and they've been trained. What what's the saying? It May Have Been Stephen, Covey senior, or someone said you need. What is it ten thousand? What does it take to be come an expert? He said was at ten thousand hours. As a ten thousand hours or know that's probably more training in many of us however. Yeah thousands of hours. Thousands of hours and what happens is you become an expert at it, so you don't even have to think when you're faced with a situation, so I can't emphasize what Jay is saying. Strongly enough train train train train so that you have many many options, no matter what something whatever is. Facing you years ago I, was a fan of tiger woods during his heyday, and it was interesting when someone asked him. How do you play around the Gulf? He says. I've hit every shot possible ten thousand times, so he's an expert in every shot. He said every time I hit a shot. I don't race ahead I. don't worry about it because I know. I've trained and hit whatever SEAN I'M GONNA face. Ten Thousand Times and he says what I do is i. just you know, have a nice walk dot, breathe and feel okay. Don't worry I get on top of the shot I. Look at where I'm GonNa next hit it I know I've hit it at ten thousand times. I look at the ball and I. Just say one word execute. And so I love what you're saying about. The Training Training Training and And I know for a lot of listeners. In these times you're overwhelmed. OVERWHELMED WITH! I can train and I'm just trying to make it through the day. I'll tell you another bit of training. That I learned from a friend of mine. His name was Bob. ECKERD he was the CEO of Mattel. And I asked I asked Bob. How do you deal with stress? and. I'll tell a quick story if that's okay, sure absolutely story. So he told me. He said that before he wasn't Mattel and he's left Mattel. Now is an investment company, but he really turned mattel. Ron Big time. And he said before that he was the CEO of Craft in Chicago and when he started at kraft, he was I may president of the cheese division. And in two months time, the dairy prices went up. And so craft, Gary. Prices went up, and then they went down, but it was written into the bylaws of craft that they didn't lower their prices, so the independence lowered the prices when the prices went down, but kraft didn't. And he had no say over that he was just the president of the division. He unwritten all the protocols, and so the newspaper there was all these headlines. Heads are GonNa Roll at craft. It's going to be the end of craft. Because Cheese was a big division biggest. Division. And he told me he said you know. I was just in a funk and staring. Into the TV screen on a Sunday and the. Coach of the Cincinnati Bengals Sam Wash. And taken the Bengals to the Super Bowl two years earlier, they'd lost, but he took him to the Super Bowl. But this year they had lost ten games in a row. And Bob said I'm just staring at the TV. And the report says to. Sam, so Sam. What are you GONNA do. You're going to be fired on Tuesday. What do you think about that? and Bob said it was as if he was speaking to me. Sam Weiss looked out on the television and said. You know what I'm going to be fired. On Tuesday I know I'm going to be fired on Tuesday. Everybody knows I'm going to be fired on Tuesday But, that doesn't matter. What matters is what can I do between Sunday and Tuesday to make the Bengals a better team? So what Bob adapted I think it's a great philosophy to get through stressful times, and he used it to get through rough times at Mattel. Is. He said before he goes to bed. He says to himself, and he writes down. What can I get done? That's different. Than what can I do, but what can I get done by the end of tomorrow? To Make Mattel, a better company. What can I get done by the end of tomorrow to be a better husband to be a better dead? And when you write that down when you train yourself to get into that habit to it for thirty days, it'll become natural. You can go to bed. Easier, you can change it when you wake up in the morning, but again it's one of those trainings. What can I get done? To Make My. To make my team more successful to make me were successful. If I'm looking for a job to be a more effective and looking for a job so right that. That question before you go to bed. Train yourself to do it. And you might be able to get to sleep without having to take some of those magic. His name is Dr Mark Allston. A. By the way I did not know he was going to do this and it was better than I could ever. Swore. WE'RE WE WE? I know we're. GonNa talk about this book real influence. And it's fantastic, but what you're hearing is the heart of the man, and he is absolutely fabulous. He's going to be with us for the next forty minutes on the

How Will Cam Newton Make the Patriots Better?

"All right bill. We're here today to talk about the New England Patriots and Cam specifically began her. They used to film. The Cincinnati bengals sideline for which they were find over a million dollars mosque third round. Pick well the good news. Is that they've decided to uproot their entire organization and totally chance planet quarterback to bury the latest piece of evidence that there maybe not playing by the rules as everybody else. Bill Barnwell is the host of the podcast. The bill Barnwell show. You just, but there are people on the Internet positing that these events are connected. Of course. We are here today to talk about. The other came Cam Newton the New England. Patriots who could have predicted this? IS GOING TO RELEASE CAM to they're going to wait, and the Patriots are going to get him for nothing and they're going to be good. It's going to be awful in offense. It was impossible up to this point. The idea that the only team in the league that to starting quarterback might possibly make a move for the best available starting quarterback on the free agent market see Telepho-, obvious when you lay it out like that, but here's the thing it's June and according to our Adam Schefter. No other teams exception to the Browns who had some interest put in a call then New England goes out, and they get cam for basically nothing veteran minimum with incentives. How bill how? I think it's a combination of things I mean. Obviously the coronavirus has impacted team's ability to see workouts to administer physicals and Cam Newton of course as a player coming off of a serious injury, eight frank injury to the middle of his foot, which cost him pretty much. The entire two thousand nineteen season for that coming off the shoulder surgery has not been healthy in a while, and so you'd figure in a typical circumstance. He would be easy for teams to kind of see what cam has left, and then make an offer only, but there haven't really been teams able to make the sort of offers that would justify starting quarterback role. And then I think from camps perspective he rightfully would rather be making less money with the opportunity to start for the new, England Patriots say a playoff team from a year ago, then serve as a perhaps higher paid backup in a spot where he's unlikely to play. Knowing how little New England paid for him and looking back at some of the other quarterbacks who got jobs during free agency? Are there any teams that you think would have been wise to jump ahead of new? England and WHY IS IT CHICAGO? I do think that the decision to trade for Nick. Foles a player who realistically has if not Worse Injury History Than Cam Newton certainly a comparable injury history when it comes to his checkered past i. do think that the bears would have been in much better shape. Do Not trae draft pick and to sign Cam Newton for much less money than they're going to give nick foles over the next three years and I think there's a handful of teams that. That even if it happened as a backup, I think teams like the steelers. Of course you've talked about the titans as possible CAM, Newton location and I think absolutely teams like that have a veteran quarterback with a history of injuries and very little behind them in the backup role would have absolutely been smart to making move for Cam Newton, but obviously I think it's the Patriots benefit that the League has been so conservative when it's come to approach again. Let's talk about what we can expect out of canning. Which I realize, you are not a doctor, but the big question mark is you've outlined his health the last time we saw him play. Football was the beginning of the two thousand nineteen season. He only played a couple of games before his season ended due to a foot injury, he incurred during the preseason. What did you see out of Cam the last time he was healthy? The last extended stretch we saw from Cam Newton as a healthy quarterback, was the first half of twenty eighteen, and he was excellent. Newton throws. Fabio Capello Panthers one of the best teams in football at six to newton was tenth and Passer Rating Twelve Qbr and the panthers had guilty scheme that was designed to actually trying to out more quickly and leave some of the hits that candidate taking, and we saw his numbers include accordingly. SNAP TO NEWTON looking left throws it over the Middle Touchdown Greg Olsen. Cam Newton looking like a poster on feats. Assume. Thirty so frequently earlier in his career, they always posted pretty mediocre. Completion percentages in two thousand eighteen across the first half you had a completion percentage of sixty seven point three percent that was one of the best marks in football. He was averaging nearly four touchdowns for every pick producing really two hundred eighty yards per game from scrimmage. He was illegitimate MVP candidate through the first half of twenty eighteen. And then of course, the injuries struck. Labor rotator cuff just to soreness. He had a shoulder injury that led to surgery after two thousand eighteen. And then the foot injury cam stumbles Abu to the nearside. He's in trouble. Hit droplet like. Damn comes off the field limping a little bit maybe. But you tried to play through and was unable to do so.

"The Cincinnati Bengals are on the clock headed to the jungle with the first pick in the twenty twenty NFL Cincinnati Bengals select job last year I said to you you're going to be number one overall what would you say they had the first one comes first they got it done pretty quick from today getting the Pickens standpoint we for for snacks on snacks and watching TV what do you do it last four was jailer Bengals head coach join just our goal to give window so coach I mean you get one ticket and then you're done I mean what do you do the rest of the first round yeah I just went to bed report I don't you know you know we we got them set up with with the whole club you know it's our virtual war room and then you sort of all have their own systems going on some kind of got to dance back and forth and you know is is probably the first time I've ever watched all thirty two picks come in just because they can affect us today with thirty three so even after that last pic you wait the fee and that can be taken so that we can get our board order for today well I appreciate you stayed with us because the rest was did have other work to do last night sacked after the bagels were dug big on the clock coach what what how how serious were offers for borough we know that Miami called once or twice how how how how many offers did come in and how many conversations did you have about moving off the number one what can people just reach out to see if there's any chance and and they quickly learn that they're working on you know we we believe that we're going to take and you know it when you got the number one pick in you believe in the guy you think is gonna change our franchise for the next decade than that somebody's got to stand up for taken so when when people called interest that just further confirms what you thought and they're willing to give up whatever they're gonna give up good to come up and get him and so what we're very happy about it talking is active in the Bengals head coach who virtually picked Joe burrow last night and now virtually has to coach him so this is this is new territory coaching so normally now Joe would be flying in you get your hands on and you get in the playbook and you're meeting face to face and getting him going how do you go about this now when you could have really no contact obviously in person contact what's the process for you going to be yeah yeah you know I've known and shown the cut out go through the install you know all the stuff that we prepared for all the rookies or veterans and then you get a chance to catch the creative because they are going to lose some physical wraps and info for quarterback it's more like Joe in here at the meeting you've done it before okay I got it I got it but really you learn as a rookie okay I don't got it when you break the huddle you're gonna get the defense you occupy scrimmage you realize maybe don't have total ownership of this new quite as hard so we just challenge guys like him to manufacture those reps in your living room your backyard with the tall point huddle you break it you walk the line you can you tell mom more lined up what route to run that with the case there's anybody but you can't and you might not be going to AJ green and Tyler Boyd John Ross but we do have to do our best to make sure we can elaborate and excuses come time for the season you mentioned he's a franchise changer and we know drafting quarterbacks this high means you want them around for the next decade plus leading the charge for you but when it comes to this season a particular knowing those challenges you still got eighty dollars on the roster is Joe burrow coming in as the unquestioned day one starter it's unknown what is Austin's gonna look like and when you take the number one pick you certainly if I click patient forms so we kept all of our options on the table but I keep it handy under contract and you know we'll get through this weekend and make some of those decisions but we certainly expect him to come in and put in the work and then challenge everybody in the building and be ready to play we're talking to coach acceller Bengals head coach last night bangles obviously take Joe burrow with the first pick overall in the draft what kind of communication have you had with Andy Dalton about this at this point okay you ought to talk to him you know you know I have a really good relationship we talked last week and so here stands gonna what's going on right now and again we do have to do what's best for the club you know so obviously we got a call back and we can go out of the name Dalton and so we want to make sure we've we've got all of our options so you know he just kind of playing the waiting game to see what happens next but we had good communication throughout coach each week you're getting borrow your obviously is the number one overall pick but if you look at the situation you guys were in last year in reality you're getting two first round picks on the field this year John Williams you guys took eleventh overall last year missed the entire season and AJ green with a foot injury also comes back so what when you're talking about the Bengals when we see him on the field in twenty twenty it really isn't just about a first round pick it's really two first round picks that should get together for the first time in a dynamic playmaking wide receiver that has a pretty good history in this league how does that in your mind change what people should be thinking about expectations for the Bengals I don't spend too much time warned about what other people's expectations are because we have our own but we did have six players on defense in free agency with the knowledge that Hey we we really just added a number one receiver in free agency that we did get a chance to coach last year we get a first round that we really get to first round picks were gonna get a quarterback or getting a left tackle I didn't play force last year so there are kind of those hidden hidden moves that we had due to injuries last year so we do get some reinforcements Conan but again we got put in the work you know it's it's one thing for me to sit here and say okay we got these two great players come back but we don't find a way to get to work and increase their chemistry and camaraderie amongst the team world number means anything once you coach what you knew you had the the number one pick how long did it take in in either seeing or talking to Joe burrow before you knew that he was going to be your pick from matter what we I think we made the decision a couple weeks ago just because we didn't want to rush into it but there's certain moments of over the course of last couple months either it when you watch him play a particular game or you just give a chance to visit with them or you thought okay this guy this guy really fits the thirtieth division we make we're gonna be happy with it but yeah we wanted to make sure that we we vetted everybody will make it right franchise and within the last couple weeks became very clear that that he was gonna mantech and so no brainer for that when you go first overall which also means that in this new drafting set up you guys don't have to worry all that much about the potential pitfalls of the situation was social distancing in technology now you guys have a pick in every round going forward here so how well well are you feeling about the situation now with your technology and the set up and what happens going forward when it becomes a little less cut and dry yeah very good you know we we've been operating this way for the last month really three zero men to phone calls and so we thought we were really well equipped for it these are very good nice job last night when they're on the clock we got a new one here coming out because again the day starts with us and then whatever communication here in the third round but so far it's been really good we we got a staff is very flexible and can adapt to a lot of things and so I think it's going really smoothly and it'll be exciting to see these pics were given the name goes head coach Zach Taylor coach we really appreciate your time I know it's super busy before we let you go you want to go and tell us you're picking up a second round of snow well I'm not ready yet you can't put in the effort to implement a just like a moment of silence there I'm hoping that moment of silence was you were thinking about telling us do they really think I'm going to tell about it right now thanks coach really preaches a coach this is why I distance myself from these people so much because I don't want I don't want to be with these guys I just tell you that right now where do I go to Europe but when I did drive it to work I enjoyed listening to it so keep up the good work thanks I appreciate it eight straight shooter shoot right like I mean you can't blame I mean unless you want to trade up for and how he could have just told us right while working right I can't tell you he was a he was very disappointed when a certain play came off the board last night the first round because I know that they had really love that kid Jordan Brooks linebacker out of Texas tech that went toward right with the overall very I mean those that was one of the players he had specifically mentioned that he had been working with at that that the senior bowl because the Bengals worked at senior bowl which gave them a huge advantage obviously employers and that was that was a player they were hoping wouldn't be would be taken in the first round so they're gonna have to go redo some things out they underestimated the power in overall weirdness of the Seattle Seahawks never yes players in the draft yeah well the good news is that they have all day to get it right and then they'll still start the clock it's the most anything you just make the pick when we start the project right great work last night as always we appreciate you coming on with us my friend have a look at the good luck have fun over the course of the rest of the weekend thanks guys and I promise to get the words Michael a junior in I was I was mentioning this a couple of hours ago and hello I'll repeat it again the we are at a point in our time right here with the corona virus we we don't know what is fact and what is fiction a lot of those things that are coming out of of China we don't know whether it's fact or fiction the the the genesis of it we don't know how deadly it is in countries that have medicine as well advanced as we have in the United States we certainly know that is taken a number of lives around the country and we know that that we are being told on a number of different levels to prepare for this to get ready for it I think that's good the antenna should be up it should not be panic it should be Joe us doing prudent things but the National Hockey League and that would include the Columbus blue jackets I've now taken to a policy where after a game where the media would gather in their locker room for interviews the National Hockey League now says that's not going to happen until whatever crisis this is passes and the NBA and Major League Baseball seem to be following suit now this may seem on the surface just a a mechanism that affects only journalists and people covering the game and of course the sympathy and the respect for journalists all over the world is at an all time low for a lot of different reasons and that's a different conversation but it is interesting that that leagues are going to this lame to protect their players and I suppose to another degree the the the people that are there covering the game from communicating whatever disease may be out there in between each other and I found this fascinating because there apparently is at work a foot plans to play NCAA and NBA games in front of no fans that it would be like a tournament that was basically it's a video game played in real life but with nobody in the stands and the lebron James who said that he does not want to do that in fact he said he would refuse to play an NBA game or any game unless there were fans allowed in to watch so you've got arguably your number one star at odds with the guy that's that's running that that laid the commissioner Adam silver but I broke it down lebron who probably has more money than he'll ever need in his life for his great great grand children's lives lebron would then be sacrificing four hundred and sixty seven thousand dollars every game that he elects to not play if indeed that they don't allow fans in the games to watch the NBA NBA games and that that that also he quits out to one hundred and sixty two dollars a second now all that's you and I can't afford to do that maybe he can but even if you make the kind of money he makes you really want to leave that.

"No problem I am for the Cincinnati Bengals okay so you play for the Cincinnati Bengals if I'm not mistaken obviously this is a bagels would love to have a job or let me ask you this and in those let's put your Bengal Kappa side do you think then Joe burrow would be best served playing for the Cincinnati Bengals that's a tough question I say I've said this a thousand times man I Carson is probably one of the best quarterbacks ever play am I think highly of Carson so yeah of course and couldn't get Cincinnati over home I don't know who can now what I will say is I don't know burl that well I'll get the norm here soon on but the people I've talked to that known very well says his confidence is through the roof and he's looking at it like Cincinnati is at the bottom there in the basement if if I can change this culture we start winning well how is that going to elevate me and I and I believe that's how he's looking at it as a huge challenge to see if I can turn this around now it's very very early in the process his dad was just saying the right thing who knows if things change but I'm just a firm believer that I just think highly of Carson is no knock on Joe Carson won the best quarterbacks ever play but when you say who the best quarterbacks you knock off a Carson Palmer you're not in the and you know in in in the know which obviously you are when we talk about a guy like Carson Palmer here's what anyone will tell you about Carson Palmer there's never been a quarterback in this league who can make every throw like Carson Palmer I'll say what what does that even mean every throw Hutch fade out there was not a pass the Carson Palmer could not throw in this is rarefied air inlet you're really a technical guy you may not even grass what that means but again who knows what would happen if he had not suffered the the injury in the playoff game maybe would have been different for you and the bangles and Carson Palmer here here's the thing about Joe Berle though as I still think this is a guy that a year ago three sixteen touchdown passes and this jury through sixty by the way are I wanted to also ask you are you stunned the Joe Brady's gone money talks I I thought it was you only given the money they did he signed an extension what it to Carolina here on two million very very I'm assuming they have to have double the salary because L. issued damn near triple they pretty much tripled the salary right and so she probably enjoys the NFL coaching better in college because it was college is a lot of some of the season and you're out on the road recruiting it's not a lot of down time probably door both being with the same and what LA she we probably realize like man well he's never going to be hotter than it is right now obviously yeah he he what he did is just brought a more dynamic offense fell issue what is not like he brought plays that nobody's ever run before he had a quarterback executed he had receivers that could get open and it was just all it was a perfect storm all right do you think that there's a possibility as the process moves along the Joe Berle might pull any line manning he makes it clear that I do not want to be with the Cincinnati Bengals find a way to trade me out I believe everything is a possibility but again if like I say the people that I know that no on he did his confidence man and I think they can't be understated that he just truly believes in himself and he's Ohio kid he could be a possibility says I don't want to play here because of the pass or he looks at it and says is the challenge and if I can turn this around then I can probably go down in history because of the dirt how many teams have been consistently arm the biggest I wanna play a game in thirty years I will probably the Browns are lower what is he looks at it as a challenge if that remains the case but yeah he could pour the lye man he can pull it Johnny away and say I'm not going early in the process let a couple months go by and see what happens by the way quick note on Joe Berle he's one month older than Lamar Jackson the twenty nineteen Heisman Trophy winner is one month older than the twenty sixteen Heisman Trophy winner wow okay all right so I did I'm is it was a twenty seventy twenty sixteen twenty sixteen twenty six sixteen twenty six C. R. has maker may feel was twenty seventeen it's just a little just a no doubt there by the way you know brought that up today John Harbaugh in defense again John Harbaugh's been on the defensive like all week long about Lamar Jackson that's what I guys last three regular season games and he's into in the a post season what do we have your Gavin this is coach at the Ellis.

"I think it'll be a score twenty to ten. So again, I see a little. We're scoring game. Thirty. Total points is definitely on the will end of the spectrum. I agree. I think Dion Lou. I think this is a DR Lewis game. I think it's the bills can cover down the field. He's due for a big game. So I see Dion Lewis getting some carries see him. Do. Getting five or six catches in the short passing game to help mariota to move the chains. And ultimately, I just don't think buffalo poses enough of a threat to win this game, but we're things have happened. Right? So. Very weird things. So the third game that we will get to. We have the Cincinnati Bengals, the upstart Cincinnati, Bengals sitting three and one there. They will be hosting the Miami Dolphins. Yeah. I mean, no one expected bingles three in one of this point. Right. Fair enough. So Andy, Dalton and the Bengals they've been playing well, they had that thrilling last-second win against the falcons last week. You don't expect them to carry that momentum over as you have picked Miami in an upset to go to Cincinnati, win, seventeen, fourteen. Yes. Eighteen just based off. They, there are three now going to New England. They got blown out, and I think it's put up a shot up time and they're gonna. They're gonna put up. So you got Tanna hill edging out, Dalton here in a low scoring game, you'd think the defenses. It'll be a struggle on for offenses in this game, you're going to be loud turnovers. Okay, fair enough. Cincinnati, gets Fontes, Burr, fict- back. Do you think that's a boost for them of changes it as a boost bingles right now are one of the worst defenses in the NFL so they can. They need the help? Yeah. The defense granted. One of the reasons I put as low scoring game is perfect coming back. Gotcha. Gotcha. I disagree with you here. So this is our first game. I'm here. This is the first game where we differed on our picks have Cincinnati at home twenty four to twenty winning over Ryan tannehill Adam gays and the Miami Dolphins. I do expect Kenyan Drake to be a little bit more relevance game after only seeing a handful of carries the last two games which was weird. Exhibiting Howard is a really good corner for the dolphins. So AJ green, my have a tough day or at least a tougher day the nor the knee did in weeks past. But I do like the other weapons at Cincinnati has Tara Boyd, John Ross, and Joe mixon should becoming back. So a boost for Cincinnati with not just easier for the finish podcast today as well. Would you treat you'll mixing or would you keep Joe mixon. Depends on the trade. Of course. No put untradable unless it was a big offer. Well, I have a trade for you because I've been hearing about some trades that people are trained for Nixon. I'll tell you about it in the Finnish football podcast, but I'm just saying there is a trade coming about it and you can catch that podcast later on today. We will have that one right up for you after this. So I have Cincinnati, twenty four twenty and we will be moving on to the next game on the sleet. And that is your Baltimore Ravens. They will be heading to to face Baker Mayfield in the Cleveland Browns Cleveland had a Cleveland like loss last week or they couldn't close out the game loss. That makes sense. Yeah. You know, the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore. Ravens came out this week and said, big Baker Mayfield was our was the next farve slash Elway mature. Do you agree with that assessment though? Do you see farther Elway when you see Baker. Like the style of play. It's the gunslinger look. I can see what I see more farther than Elway. He's a risky thrower and all that stuff. But that's not compared with two hall of fame court. SuperBowl winning quarterbacks is first couple of games please. Can we not put that much pressure on the kid the all time interceptions leader Brett farve, and he used to be the temptations leader. So one of the greatest Rex Volta he's fine, fine. He's, he's good. No, no. Why do you think because of his interceptions he's the quarter. I don't wanna get too for topic. Brett Farr is one of the more overrated quarterbacks in NFL history. Not that he's not good. That doesn't mean you are not good said, don't get all upset..

"Getting to join what's the wave google bus said stunned this in the cincinnati bengals played the spoilers they win the game thirty one to twenty seven in the bills will be dancing in the post season when i look at the afc field outside of the patriots they're not allowed to quarterback that have sort of playoff cachet obviously the steelers have wrought this berber he's thirteen and seven in the playoffs he's won two super bowls brilliant in some of these other teams i mean alec smith as i mentioned has the two playoff wins but one of those with the san francisco forty nine irs mary oda vis never played he's only what's the playoffs on tv same goes for blake bortles a thai rod taylor not only is he never played a playoff game but his own coach in the middle of the year decide to bench him for rookie nathan peterman and that was a whole reason the bills needed help needed the ravens to lose in the final day of the season to get in so if you're going to be the patriots in the playoffs i feel like and you know this you cover those giants patriots super bowls with the i manning you have to have a high calibre quarterback playing at a high level i don't see a lot of those quarterbacks in this area see playoff field outside of pittsburgh and rothliseberger that's a win for the patriots for sure you know it's so interesting because you kind of look over the years with an all these guys have won the all the quarterback who want to super bowl you can point to that first run right they finally broke through whether flaco is one of the rare ones in the afc and the nfc it's been a little bit more wide open right different teams different opportunities but i think brady has just had such a stranglehold and he's been he's been like the blockade you know it's just harder for guys to get past him to break through to be as good to to break through and get a chance to get that first super bowl of course i mean he has it's impossible to even quantified the advantage the patriots have with him at the position versus everybody but pittsburgh in the rest of the field.

"Guy the organization itself has come up short of they've passed on talent they passed on cautioned wednesday passed on to show watson are they blew that trade uh with um with the backup quarterback mccarron for the cincinnati bengals at one a national championship in alabama who hugh jackson like when he was the office of coordinated cincinnati the deal was supposed to be done but the cleveland browns organization in turn the paperwork in into on time which is the ultimate embarrassment all of those things are true but in the end you don't get to escape the fact that you have a head coach who may not be at fault for everything that transpired but dammit one in thirty one is one and thirty one and you don't sit up the and tell us city that come out and support you as a porch a product if the backdrop is returning some of the same old same old when we witness what has transpired over the last two years okay got it thank you say even asked wear that we've gotta go that's where i met with it and i love you jackson love him as a person i was rueful and if he war you know three in thirteen one oneseason and five and eleven another that would be different this is ethically bad as an organization and under no circumstances a mob laming just him ball when you're this bad everyone has to fall everyone as to fall you can't beat his bad and people get saved.
