Now look at the guys who have achieved this honour as guys who perform in the toughest situations. That's been an area that we haven't done a great job over my first five years. I really felt like we had everything else that we need and really believe that last week was a big week. Chase elliott on online line radio. What's changed for you over the last few weeks that that has spiked all this potential. Heck i dunno. I feel like we just put a lot emphasis on the things that matter and and really just didn't care about anything else and you know. There's just so much distraction in the world is tied to the phones and you can get a hold anybody any time and there's just so many things in from the outside that can reach someone that's one thing that i felt like our whole team just said a better job of was just boiling down to the things that matter and ultimately it's how good of a job do we do build net car. "Back to mike bagley. We're back on nascar. Live continuing our discussion with your twenty twenty nascar cup series championship winning crew chief alan guston. Who joins us on the hotline. We just documented before the break about the challenges back at the shop. But alan once we were able to get back racing at darlington getting getting back into the flow of things i would imagine that the lack of practice and qualifying had an effect. What affected at have on your team and the nep number. Nineteen yeah i mean it definitely had an effect you you had to look at the weekend a bit differently in in had this work on the car differently and Really had to make sure that you did everything. Correct to where The car was mechanically sound. And you know the the were no issues with parts failures or or issues with you know component being installed correctly and certainly We had to make sure that your shovels were right And then you had to be able to adjust your car because you were really Unsure of the conditions and in some situations They retired. We haven't run before You don't know the grips because it's going to be the track you know. Typically we were always used to being last card on the track for ra so the track take in rubber and a change in the ball. The weekend in some situations we were the first cars trucks. So yeah there was a lot of unknowns. And i think just being really southbound and making sure that the set the car mechanically Was was very good. And you all your travels and You had some can with the balance was crucial to start. I guess i'll ask the question. That a lotta race fans are asking. How do you know it's gonna work. How much were you just though. Endorse at the dartboard. Obviously you've got notes and you've got a lot of resources to draw on but still the first time. The car has the race tracks when the green flag flies in the race. How challenging was that. What did you guys tap into help you especially later in the season when you were rattling off wins. What seemed like one after another. They're in the playoffs. Yeah i mean. I think for us. You know our historical knowledge of of of being Competing at these tracks. And we've we've all been together nine for you know should never come a time. That's really the biggest thing we leaned on. And we had you know great notes experiences from the past and you could you could basically revert back to that and just try to make smaller rations from that to improve and and not go Not not to go. You know really to four outside the box. If it was a normal weekend where you would practice you certainly would be able to You know try some different things or take some different packages on online. That work in this situation you you would take You know what you had. And when she knew that was a solid basis and just try to improve on that so that historical knowledge that we had was just you know super super valuable for us and we were able to Just just tweet that in and improve and fortunately for us you know we've had had taste and had good speed so we had to make an incremental gains and if we could do that could obviously contend to win speaking of incremental gains you and chase it just wrapped up their fifth year together. First couple of years did not manage to get the victory lane but in eighteen three times nineteen three times this past season five times. It seems like things are coming together with your race team as you spend more time together. What is your analysis of the time you and chasing the team has spent together in the last five years and what seems to be a lot of growth. That has come from that time spent together. Yeah we certainly look back at the first couple of years no. It's disappointing to me that we couldn't wait. And we were in contention to win a lot and and unfortunately you know for whatever reason we just. We just didn't get the job done but you know at the time you look at those circumstances and you're like man it's You know really just just got negative. Feel to it and you're disappointed jin win and you can't see the positives but As you work through it and stick together and continue to grow and improve You know those lessons. We learned through. All those circumstances really paid off for us. And when we got into these situations where You know the pressure is on and and you know it. It may not seem the same for fan or someone who's removed but you know winning chasing his first race you know carries a huge amount of intensity and pressure with that In that being able to overcome that finally we're able to use that in Use that experience to our advantage when it comes to these cutoff aces and when it comes to the championship and Yeah so. I think those are failures through the first Couple of years we've been able to learn from those and improve and and then put that knowledge to use and and in ultimately You know win and when we need to question for you is. When does the title defense begin. When do when do all is ears and attention turned to twenty twenty one. Yeah i think we're there now. I mean it's just We're we're trying to get everything going and geared up and try and improve and So yeah we're working on that stuff now and It's kind of fun to get back in the groove and in trying to defend that title. You know your driver's going to be running the snowball derby there and pensacola any any opportunity for you. To maybe a run down there and help with crew chief duties. Yeah i chased this guy things. He's doing all great he's he's an amazing talent. I think he's going to be a threat to win. Whatever he climbs into so Yeah i mean it's opportunity presents itself as the great race. It's a great Part of you know Short-track racing in in america. And you know glad to see contained. It'd be strong and glad to see people. I chase go down there and compete you know the best of the best going down there and tell you what procedures racist so I love to get down there and we'll see how it works out. I'm certainly not going to be of any value. Just be a spectator having fun in And enjoying you know kind of grassroots fair enough. Appreciate the time my friend. Congratulations i know what you do. "To catch up with chase elliott about winning. This year's chip patties the jarrett's that's lee petty. The king richard petty. Ned jarrett dale jarrett. And now the elliott's what does it mean to you now to be the third father son tandem to to be nascar's premier series championships given the fact that now five of the six. And it's only because you're still racing five of the six or nascar hall of famers yet. It's you know crazy. I mean to be in the same sentence as the pettis and jerry. I mean those are some very serious racing families. The i think we're all very aware of and yeah i mean just to be in that same sentence is our and su- such a big. It's a big deal you know and and for anybody who's grown up around racing or or watch for years championship is a. It's a big honor to have in. It's not something that anybody should take lightly so you know very proud of that practice. Share that with that and and Yes certainly gonna get always enjoy that Regardless of what happens next. It wasn't all that long ago. You were yourself just a just a young kid trying to make it in sport what would you say to all these young racer. That are out there. Now what do you. What kind of advice would get them to try to keep chasing their dreams. I think just focus on what's important and you know nats on with it. I mean i think when when you're getting started you certainly have to. You have to really enjoy it and there's gonna be times as you get older. You might question how much you enjoy it or or kinda what what's next. Or what are those next steps but I think more than anything does not necessarily getting caught up all that yet but just have fun with it. Enjoyed in focus on the things that are going to make you go fast. And the race car and eliminate the distractions that don't matter so final question for you. Chase elliott nascar cup series champion. They coming days. What are the coming weeks going to be like. What are you going to do for the holidays. And what are you going. Find some time to just sit back and reflect. Yeah you know i really. I don't know you know some some things planned throughout the winter. That i'm excited about and you know can share here in the coming weeks but Gonna try to do some race. That i haven't really done haven't really spent a winter racing since i've been in Been awhile so. I'd like to get back and do more of that. I would love to travel. Now is really kinda where all this started was wanted to travel over the winter and go see somewhere else in the world but obviously with the with outlook of the globe currently Traveling outside the states really isn't an option. Like well if we're going to be home you know. Let's let's go race race here in the states. Naff on and try to get some things lined up so we're going on that excited to share soon okay. I said that was the last bit. Your answer made me have to ask another when once it safe and wants things get back to normal. Where do you want to go. Where do you want. Yeah yeah there's so many places and honestly. I don't even know that. I know all the places that i wanna go but You know talked about gone to Germany for new year's kinda We talked about going to never done that before. and the australia new zealand bank certainly is on my list. But i don't know it it's really been Our world travels have been kinda somewhat sporadic which has been kind of fun to you. Know you don't really know what to expect a lot of times which is part of the adventure so of can get back to doing that. some point down the road absolutely we everybody will chase congratulations on behalf of everybody and thanks so much for taking time to join us. "Debut has been pushed back to two thousand twenty. Two nascar car is still working to develop. Its next gen race car monday at charlotte motor speedway as robo course two versions were on track and kurt. Busch driving a so-called prototype three-car built by richard childress racing says. It's a big change his first day at school because of how different the car is with a sequential gearbox fun love shifting through the gears out sequentially second third fourth fifth. And then you gotta go back fourth third second. It's not your typical h. Pattern that we've had so this gearbox is fun to drive on. The brakes are much bigger pie in the car can stop a lot quicker in then. We actually have a hybrid like a horse collar rain right now. We're not the pool. Seven fifty over nods fever. Low five fifty but overall cars first impression is fun. That's exciting and different martin. Junior tested a prototype built by action express racing a championship. Sports car team as different as the car. Is you know. I think independent rear suspension is something that really you know not sure what to expect on. I've never driven anything without a without a straight rear end in it so Go that was. That was a big question. Mark in and honestly. It really doesn't feel any different now. We did make changes on one of the runs. That i was like whoa. This thing is out of control. You can't you don't do that again so there's there's definitely going to be a huge learning curve. I mean there's so many differences about About the way these cars built from what you know. Our style of racing or erasing stock in general always back modified for me So many differences about this both drivers noticed was the way the new car sounded bush's version had an e cr chevy motor even sounds odier and the sound was very cool. I don't get the cards a lot. Because i'm home into car racing true exco around to hear the split exhaust pipes out left when pipes right. That's an old school. Trans am style. Thundering power feel but car. Solar rates quicker. It stops quicker. Turns quicker more nimble. Each driver offered feedback to technical crews trying to get both cars. Dial in and bush said that was a different process as well ours reacting well to typical changes to new things that we're talking about as far as anna dive. I swat The castor changes we haven't done yet are much different than years past with way shocks shocks to the control arms and wishbones so much cool stuff to learn true x said even something as simple as shifting gears required a new thought process. It's A lot easier a lot more efficient effective. You have to lift off the throttle less to shift. We have more years. Which you have more options going through the especially. If you're you know you feel bogged down. We'll just jump down a gearing grab throttle again so for the road course. It's really good and gives you some really good options in at works. Well that's kind of a modernized. You know if you picture a real car with paddle shifter kind of that way you barely have flip. Throttled the full the year. So it's been neat. I do have to keep reminding myself that. I have though because one downshift when i'm supposed to shift could end the end. The tests here so literally driven an h pattern. Since i was a kid and by keep having to remind myself to make sure i fully right direction. So that's been fun. I have a screwed that up. Get knock on wood. Hopefully i don't after spending tuesday converting charlotte motor speedway from its russell configuration back to the traditional mobile. The drivers will be back on track. Wednesday. it's going to be a huge learning curve for everyone but when the car is balanced well it feels really similar to what we have now. I think that's a good thing again. This is a slow road. Course and i think wednesday is going to be the real test to see what i think of it and you know to see how it feels on fast overall. I think it's gonna be a real eye opener. Bush says one other milestone is coming. I think we're just trying them on lapse on components.

Xfinity Series Champion Austin Cindric

"On the final with us. Today is austin syndrich. Welcome back to the program of great. Thanks for having me all right. So twenty twenty. Xfinity series champion That's got a nice ring to it right. Yeah without a doubt. I mean you work in an entire year. Obviously this year's been been crazy and trustful for a lot of people and a lot of different ways and Obviously rise to the occasion on on on the right weekend is is is ideal but The the work put in all season. It definitely makes you gratifying. So i take us through this closing laps. What was going through your head. Obviously we had. We pulled away in the lead with older tires there and I thought that was the hard part and turned out You know caution with three to go Having to come in and put on tires and that we are at a pretty big deficit I think that was the right call to make but putting yourself by maple on on on the offense and Having having to make two laps and make it happen when a championship in the with with with our competition definitely wasn't gonna be easy and putting a three wide off at turn four to win the championship Was was pretty cool. I thought i thought we all wreck for for a moment there and Definitely definitely dramatic finish and Glad glad we had to earn it but Definitely go out. It will all work out. What What did you do to celebrate. So yeah i've been trying to do the maximum obviously The different year As far as getting people together and enjoying things with that'd be with my guys do people shop or or or just my friends and family so That that part's obviously been a bit more of a challenge but Saturday night after the race. I can promise you. The the twenty two team had a great time and Major everybody got back to their rooms. Nice and safe but Otherwise it was it was. It was a fun night. looking forward to To enjoy during the season and coming back even harder and twenty twenty one. What are some of the things. That are a champion has to do during the week. Afterwards is it. Is it more than you expected. i think it's a lot of things that i wanna do myself It's it's. It's not things that that other people will put me up to as far as Like i said. I've had to be very creative in the last couple of days. Far as trying to figure out. Like i said what the maximum is that i can do to to to enjoy championship with with my team But also making sure i don't even turn you don't wanna championship every day and It's really difficult to do this in. Obviously we had the opportunity. Try new again next year but Trying to make sure that that. I don't miss anything almost anyone and I enjoy the moment obviously You're going to be kind of like the the face of the sport or the the face of the xfinity series for next year. What does it mean to be a champion and carry that flag. I think anyone who's watch watch series for the last couple of years. Watch me grow develop at the driver. Obviously i have my one one season in the truck series beforehand but that was it and As far as my career. So i've come a long way in a short amount of time and and i think Anyone who's watched those races that seeing that Has it's hopefully been able to create that. And as as seen this team really rally around me and in my development and obviously it's been a lot of fun to be able to do that and go on win races. And and then put ourselves in contention all year so it obviously Gives us more to look forward to. Obviously there's going to be great competition next year. I excited excited to see the full line. Up of drivers that We get to compete against and Looking forward to doing doing the most. We can't to make it back to phoenix and try and contempt for another championship now. Obviously every year. There's a big awards banquet at the end of the year this year. It's going to be a little different than can be more of a an awards show. I'm sure you're still looking forward to it because you're going to be honored. Their yeah i just want to get back all hours. Upset at other people's banquets watching other people talk. I want to do the talk. Our team to get the talking but It's it's obviously a challenge but No it's hopefully. Everyone can tune into that. I i got got wrapped up with with my obligations for that Just just yesterday actually so Looking forward to seeing that. It's also fun to to to to share that with with the other. Competitors are in shown creative while we were in nascar Production dairy and talk and talk to him about his race and and obviously Obviously chase elliott pretty pretty cool for the sport there and Obviously very well deserved for him and his family's well. We're on with xfinity series champion for twenty twenty austin syndrich and every year penske. Does this big olympic style kind of stuff with all their drivers and and and and crew members and stuff like that. This year was dodgeball How'd you do was it fun. It looked awesome while. I'm gonna brag on myself here for a minute because In p when. I was in middle. School and high school dodgeball was my thing. Okay i i don't know why i i obviously love it but For whatever reason. I just have a knack for it so When when they decided they were going to dodge ball with all the penske drivers i was. I was pretty keen so the game. They go to penske social channels. They haven't shared up on there. But i was the last man standing for a very long time Got a lot of people. I got blaney out by far the most athletic driver on our team pretty. I got him out early in the game But yeah it's great fun it. It's it's so cool. Because we're such a diverse group of drivers. As far as the different race series and and you know different nationalities and obviously we really different personalities. So that's always a really fun amick and I hope everyone enjoys that kind of stuff. I'm sure it's a big A team bonding kind of thing as well. Hey later today you've got a alive. Qna online. Are you are you nervous with some of the fans might ask you know. I don't think so Obviously we've got like said the life you and eight six six thirty on penske social channels on facebook and Looking forward to seeing the turnout we get for that. Because it'll be my crew chief. Brian wilson talking about Pretty much our season that race. Everything that's come down to it. Obviously brian i ever really greatly relationship and Look look forward to take jabs. Adam if i can't tonight what are some of the things are gonna be doing in the off season Both to relax and maybe even stay sharp for next year. Yeah i'm i'm still working on that. But i made a long list on the flight home from phoenix as far as things don't want to do and i i started to realize i'm probably not going to get everything done. I'd say top of that list is continue to work on my project car. I've got an eighteen ninety three volvo station wagon that i've been doing a Coyote swap was basically putting the the drive train. The the motor from a ford mustang. So go to five hundred horsepower. Engine in a in a ninety station wagon is has been no small feat. I've been working on this thing for for two years. Now doing all the work on myself so it's been really fun to to learn that Learn that side of things i. I think it's made me a better driver. And the obviously it's a it's a great pastime. Okay that's one of the most unique rebuilds. I think i've ever heard what's the goal for that. Car the goal is to be stupid or noxious. It's gonna race track. It's just it's just supposed to be loud stupid and fast. The car actually ways Significantly less than most most rijkaard's. It's actually smaller than you think being a station wagon. It's only twenty pounds. So a couple of hundred pounds lighter than most modern cars so nothing's gonna rip so Hopefully i get tight and have some fun with it so looking looking to make a pretty big debt absolutely now over the next year and a half or so. You've got a lot of things plan. Obviously going xfinity series racing next year. Defending that The championship and you're also going to have some cup series races Have they decided that your schedule yet. No it's definitely ongoing. Obviously gotta make sure things work logistically and and try and figure out the the right thing whether it be my development or having partners on the car but I'm excited for for that opportunity to to learn at the high level But i'd say if there is a race that i wanna do They're they're going cup racing at road. America on july fourth weekend is going to be amazing so I'm hoping that i can get to do that. One that one's definitely at the top of my list but Overall just just happy to happy to have that kind of an opportunity happy have the groundwork laid out for for for for my development over the next couple of years that's very challenging thing to to navigate in the sport especially the drivers so Looking forward to taking advantage of that opportunity and make the most of your drivers don't have the opportunity of knowing. Hey after next year. I'm going cup racing. They don't usually know that You still got to keep the eye on the ball for the community series. But i'm sure you're still excited about twenty twenty two. Yeah without a doubt to have that opportunity. Go race for the wood brothers in in in twenty twenty two. Obviously that's a that's a family. That has a huge legacy in the sport and The opportunity to to build on that legacy is something i definitely. Don't take lightly. I i love the history of the sport but also the the wood brothers eddie. Len modern john. Those guys who have been big supporters of mine Since since i've really come into nascar so excited to get to work with them here in the next couple the next couple of months after after twenty twenty one and Really really start the next chapter of my career with those guys so Very grateful for that as an opportunity. But i really really focused on defending title. It'd be be great taylor to walk out the as two time champions but a lot of work that needs to be done in a lot of hard competition to the face before then all right for sure last question any plans for the rolex twenty four working on that man that's that's always grind. I mean that is that is a given so Definitely definitely doesn't hurt to in the off season In style like this but Yeah i i wanna i wanna do the rolex again This past year was actually the first year in in three years that i hadn't done it so actually spotted the race for one of the penske cars which being outside in the middle of the night for twenty four hours is enough motivation for for trying to find drive the next year. I don't know what is so I'm i'm excited to try and try and navigate that I want to win that race. Really bad that's that's that's where i've been really passionate about for a long time a lot of miles in a lot of hours in so Still still on the lookout for for the right combination and Hopefully hopefully things down before the holidays. All right. he is the twenty twenty extended series champion. Austin syndrich thanks as always for being on the final

"The masters of them. No tigers teeing off at seven fifty five. So he's in like. But i'm saying no seriously you're talking like a four. Am waco right. Yeah for these guys do their stretching all these all that stuff go to the range for an hour at least at breakfast routine right all that. So all part of the this part of the Analysis we have here and by the way to the -secutive watching peacock if golf channel wants me to come on the air and give my keen analysis similar to what i just dropped. I'm all in. i'll do. Oh yeah. I wonder what the latest tigers ever shown up for time. You know what i mean. He overslept or something like tin cup. Yet he's over something like that. And i wonder what it is. So that's the latest right there. Let's take a quick phone. Call cathy in In pennsylvania in the great city of philadelphia is back. What's up kathy. I think we spoke. We spoke Week ago today. You're on your way to the polls to go. Vote a yen and it turns out that pennsylvania made it made a way different so every vote counts. What's on your mind Well two things. I wanted to get a quick shot out to Bills mafia The current total that they've donated to Shies children's hospital is over two hundred thousand in honor. Josh ounce grandmothers. Who passed away on saturday. Saw that this you know say what you will about bills fans or mafia or how crazy they are but you remember. They donated a ton to andy dalton because he beat the ravens to put the bills in the playoffs. I mean they they are. They are really amazing. They really are. Yeah yeah i agree And so the reason. I'm i'm calling now is I'm a little perplexed. And i was hoping that you could help me. kinda workshop through it Hearing the feedback from pete carroll about sunday's game And now i'm not talking about the fact that you didn't lone wolf the bills on on game day morning. Not talking about that Talking about cairo's comments that they had game planned for the run. And i remember when when marshall faulk was on on your show he also come onto that to stop the bill. You got to stop the run and just a little confused as to what people are watching that are making them sink. The way to stop the bill around. I don't know. Because i have devin singletary my fantasy league and if i did have the fake hair we've been talking about it or pulled it out so clean. I honestly thought he was going to have thousand yard season with maybe multiple with double digit touchdowns. And i don't think he scored yet this year and and most of his work has been catching passes out of the back. And you know. They've been running him in between the thirties. Essentially and zack. Moss comes in. And it's really on the arm of of josh allen and getting him on the turf if you can. I mean that's essentially trying to confuse him and make him make throws that he shouldn't make And there were a couple of weeks where where he was having problems like that obviously playing. Kansas city's top playing kansas city In the matter in which they had to play them because of all the cove madness That was that was not easy. Same with the titans but I don't know the answer to that. Other than the fact that That's the way to beat the bills. Trying confused josh allen and then And tear up the bills defense. If you can in the same manner that the titans and the chiefs did be about you. Take care of yourself. Thanks for the call. Thank you got. I don't know it was just way off for seattle left right up down. I recognize that that That seahawks team title lockets on an hour number three. We'll discuss it with him. Elliott races into NASCAR championship; Harvick eliminated

"The field is set for NASCAR's championship for next week to battle for the Cup series title at Phoenix Raceway but getting there required the sport's most popular driver chase Elliott to punch his ticket with a win at Martinsville speedway and that's exactly what he did to win a championship in this series you have to make the final four we see the same crowd make the final four since this deal's been implemented and we want to assert ourselves amongst the people who can make it consistently L. it was outside the cut heading into the action but he dominated the race leading two hundred thirty six of five hundred laps Elliott joins Kansas race winner joined lagana along with Brad Keselowski and Denny Hamlin in the championship hunt Kevin Harvick who won nine races in twenty twenty just missed the final round I'm Jerry Jordan

Kansas Speedway Starting Lineup: October 2020 (NASCAR Cup Series)

"Series rat of eight kicks off this weekend at Kansas despite other media members thinking it's more and other weird stuff. These are the drivers that are going to battle it out for four spots over the next three races Kurt Busch Alex, Bowman Martin tricks junior joey logano chase Elliott Brad Keselowski Denny Hamlin, and Kevin Harvick bloom that is a star studded pack of drivers there for sure. So eight races will be pared down to four for Phoenix. which is going to be the round of four, which is only one race I guess but I mean look at look at that lineup, you've got one, two, three, four, five champions. You've got the guy who's the perennial second place Cinderella story that never gets it done at any Hamlin the most popular driver and Chase Elliott, and then Alex Bowman as well. The future forty-eight drivers. That's pretty cool and we've got a great mix of manufacturers. Yeah. Yeah. No joke I mean we've got a pretty good representation of everything here. We got to Chevy's two toyotas. Fords right that were at. I see in three three chevys. Sorry. Three Chevy Chevy three forwards and two Toyotas. That's pretty good. especially when you consider how few Toyotas are in the field. That's that's par for the course you're only gonNA get two of them in there but that's that's a pretty impressive field of drivers for this. Finally, all right Kansas speedway opened in two thousand and one it's bad fast on the list of top ten fastest tracks, which is a weird list. Drivers, of course, have to dodge rows and rows of corn and wheat growing right there on the racetrack in between the workers and the cracks. would. That might not be true.

"Nascar live on the motor racing network, the voice of Nascar. This is Nascar live now back to Mike Bagley. Welcome back to NASCAR, live with his win on Sunday in Daytona on the infield road course chase Elliott has now won three road course races in a row in the NASCAR Cup series. He was gracious enough to give some time this week following his victory and chatted with our Kim Kun. Donald row course no practice does that beat make the winds seem like Morgan accomplishment than you're wanting to track that you're more familiar with I don't know that's tough. I feel like I don't know my road to that I was so difficult I feel like they're all special and and all hard. So it's Kinda hard to. To say but certainly, I I was proud of the challenge and proud of the proud of the weeks preparation and that comb you know come to life on Sunday and get the result that I felt like we we deserved I think we've all put in the time to do that. I'm sure we weren't the only ones that put in that amount of time but it was always refreshing to see your group come together work hard at something and to get a result joke with that was really cool. What's your take on having no practice in in what ways do you feel like? Maybe it makes the weekends little more interesting. I. Think it definitely made this past weekend more interesting. You know just nobody really knowing what to expect and you know I was nervous for that turn one deal you know I haven't been nervous for race in long time and I was like you know, what are we? How? How stupid are we all going to look here Monday morning when we? Crash after field here turn one. So I'm really glad you didn't like a bunch of idiots because I thought it was a high probability of that happening So luckily, everybody did their homework think as a as an industry we prepared well with nice and it was cool to see all that come to life and put on a clean ranks. Third Straight. Consecutive Road Course Win Fourth of your career Dcla Road Courses Maybe jives with your driving style or is it more just? Collectively. The team, the car you. Think it's more of a collective effort I mean, I think that You Know Jeff obviously was a great row course racer. A-. Stepped into his old team I. Think he left them with a lot of really good ideas and and a lot of emphasis on the really important areas of course, racing that helps you go fast I think those things really. Should not go unnoticed that I came into a good situation there. So I feel lucky from that standpoint and when you when you come into a situation like that. On, your car's driving well and doing the things that I want them to do I think ultimately, it helps me learn faster in in. It's not that I come in and just know exactly what to do but when your car's driving well, I can focus on those fine details that really make the difference in winning or losing, and I think that has been the the big thing is just having a good base on a good starting point to to to build from asker shook not stuff this year and next. Tried a handful of new things. So we've seen shorter races in midweek races doubleheaders no practice like I mentioned the choose Conroe, which of the things that they've changed or tested having likes the most good question honestly I there's nothing they have done this year that I have not liked I think they've all been really big winners for our industry I see positives in shorter weekends I see positives in no practice I, see positives in the choose cone se positives and doubleheaders especially at racetracks there we visit Within a months time in that, you're not selling out anyway so I just think that there's a lot of I think there's a lot of really good things that that they've been doing and I just feel like they're getting back to a lot of basics than that. We out grew as an industry that we've got a really get back to to to to make everything work. To died a little deeper into the double header subject obviously demo hundred donor this weekend it's the third doubleheader. We've seen this year. You know you obviously have said you liked them. How does your preparation for the second race compare to win the race aren't doubleheader months in between? Well. I. Think. The big thing is it's it is two races right and there's two races worth of points on the line, but ultimately you're not going to. Reinvent the wheel, Saturday night or Sunday. So you know it Pocono. The same guys finish first and second is what they did on. Saturday and Sunday same guy wanted Michigan both days even after the number. So. Baltimat- you have what you have when you get there from a real from overall general package perspective. So in that sense, it is Kinda like just one weekend with double the points in a Lotta ways. So I, think you treat it as that in in my opinion because if you're having to just absolutely punt on Saturday night in restart the you a had a bad Saturday and are probably not going to have a good Sunday either so I think you you better have it right when you get there and distracts you from there. When laughs just a few weeks away? Your. Like your teammates maybe these next couple weeks. What are some things you want to hone in on to prepare yourself for when we kick off the championship rotten? Yeah you know obviously the past couple months have been a bit of a struggle on on the ovals So yeah, just trying to focus on that mile and a half package historically, Texas Pocono India have always been a struggle certainly thought we could run better at Kansas than what we did. So that one was an eye opener I think for me in our whole group to be like, Hey, you know we need to we need to really hunker down and get better and I do think Michigan. Showed some of our weaknesses in certain areas. So this focused on that mile and a half package, what we need to do to be better obviously, that's the chunk of the final ten. So dovers opportunity to hone in on some of that stuff But you know when we get to get back to Darlington, I think will be interesting and kind of see Roy. Stack up there we had a great run there. In the in the spring races But a lot has changed since then and I I feel like we need to improve to have this around again. That was Kim Kun and NASCAR's most popular driver Chase Elliott Valuable Playoff points here as the cup series winds down their regular season coming up James Davison. We'll make his fifth start in the Indianapolis five hundred this time though were they NASCAR connection we'll hear from him next. For decades, dry lubricants have been made in America in made to last paving the way on our highways in our fields and on the production line today driving offers a complete line of engine oils greases hydraulic and transmission fluids. It's also been rumored that chip Ganassi racing has also offered bubba. In a press conference ahead of Daytona Bubba said nothing has been set in stone. On both parties might team at RPM are still trying to figure out ways to finalise deals and get everything together. This this definitely solves a big. Piece to the puzzle and working together. J. Yeley thirtieth BJ McLeod rob I want to get your thoughts this race was pretty calm for about two hundred laps then all the sudden somebody lit the fuse doesn't that typically happens for itself I think it was to be expected everybody showed a lot of restraint and patience at the outset what we expected but as it progressed in them as we have found ourselves with two different groups of racing and for the first time in a long time since Phoenix these guys I got an extra couple hundred horsepower so give them more power and these guys are in a race as hard as they can to beat the guy next to him and I get and I also think the strategies being employed right now you have basically four different strategies the guys who did it with twenty to go the guys who pitted with about ten to go out to the end to stage two then you had the guys who stayed out come on the road then you got guys like Denny Hamlin Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson not pitting at all and again you.

Let's run down on those stats for chase. He did have wins at Talladega Watkins Glen and of course the Charlotte Oval that we discussed along with eleven top. Fives fifteen top tens and four poles pulse. Chase is now kind of at the top of the list when you consider a road. Course Racers Yeah No. He's pretty solid It's it's unreal to because even with if what happened at the rule there With the little incident he was able to rebound from that passer. Rip Back Again and get the lead and the eventual win. That's just remarkable and he has shown a real knack for horse racing. It's pretty incredible.

It wasn't a week ago that most people a lot of people were going Denny Hamlin. This really might be as year. He seems like he's peaking at the right time. One of those people was me I was I was just convinced. A one of the challenges and I think one of the challenges we've seen with Denny. Alex all up jumped out at upper case. Because you know any better than all of us denny is a the great race car driver extremely talented but one of the challenges. He's always had his in this playoffs and incomplete honesty. The question has always been his his his mental toughness. Okay and and I know a couple years ago. He lost a championship and it was like the wheels fell off from him. The wheels fell off from everything else. It didn't look like we had any of that now and it's still like the mental toughness. Is there it was just mechanical stuff. And things like that but Alex when we look at Denny. He appears on the outside that he's got everything in his life buttoned. The upper everything focused on it but right now he's got some ground to make up he does. And you know it's crazy because I'm trying to think back and I have been for about a week now for crying out out loud. Have we ever had. A playoff warner was had more twists and turns and that was just one driver but with multiple drivers. You're right what he won't get any Hamlin was the guy to beat and a lot of people already saying you know what. He's the favourite to win this twenty nineteen championship but after what we saw Texas. I think it's just a piece of humble pie. Hi for everybody that reminds us in this. Anything can usually does happen. If that unpredictable. Every single lap actually matters it's in for Denny Hamlin to to come out and have such a solid bid stage of the playoffs to have some drama now and find himself on the outside looking being in Steve to your point mental toughness. It's GonNa come into play so Dinnie at attract a one mile race track at his first Ever Cup series. Poll was right here. Sure At at at I s raceway Phoenix. Where we're going this weekend? He's got a little bit of history here he's got a little bit of comfort zone. Here doesn't matter where the start finish line is now the delay out of this race. Track is exactly the same as it's always been so denny Hamlin's gotta dig deep and he's gotta find that mental toughness right now and I think one of the things he can rest comfortably on which is really strange. Is that a week ago. He was in the same spot. Kyle Busch and Joey Logano were pretty pretty comfortable on points. And I think Denny's got a bank on. Well look what happened to me and maybe can happen one of those guys to and You know but but the reality of it is twenty points. Sounds like a lot but someone has a problem in a stage. Denting wins the stage. She's cut that in half forty point swing at forty exactly and I think that would be needs to look at. He had a forty point swing in Texas one of those guys in front. All of them could have a forty point swing and Phoenix. All right you guys were talking about the crazy. Let's get to the other half of that. Chase Elliott a playoff win to blown motors a broken axle and and a crash. Alex has anybody had crazier playoff stretch. Then Chase Elliott no next and I hate to laugh and I hate to make light of it because I mean tastes in that race. Doing all they can but they can't control mechanical failures and that to me is what separates nascar racing from other stick and ball sports. Yeah you need team effort unless it's a golf or or tennis or something of that nature but in racing you gotTa have the team you gotTa have the driver talent and the ability but you also better have some some hope. That lady looks going to be on your side because there are thousands of moving mechanical manacle parts. We're dealing with machines and sometimes things break. It doesn't matter how well they're built pieces of metal will break sometimes and chase Elliott's learning Dan. He's learning it the hard way but that doesn't mean he's out to me. That's kind of the beauty of the way we do things in nascar racing determine our champion you basically got three strikes strikes well he. He's used to be swings already. But that doesn't mean he won't hit a home run on the third pitch right so for Chase Elliott and his fans don't were you got one last shot at it come IFM raceway but boy. Oh boy he's GONNA I don't have to hit the baseball heart. He's going to have to hit it I long way. Here's crazy. Crazy to the guy crashed at the rover. And once that's my that was my thought. And after that role he he crashed anyone the race and I said this guy has momentum desk game set match. This is going to be spectacular to watch how good chase Elliott is the one thing and I chatted with chase I think it was Talladega. And he said the one thing about when you're you're behind his you know what you have to do. They go there when they roll that car off the truck into that garage area. They're going. They're just for they're not staged pointing. They're not doing this. They're not doing now. Alan Gustafson and chase Elliott know that they need to be in the lead on lap three twelve or whenever we throw the checkered flag and that's the only goal and so there is a degree agree that that does define a little bit closer what they need to do. Where when you look at the other guys? They're all within twenty three points. They could be in the middle of that race running calculators others and doing math because one of them had a bad stage or something chase Elliott. It's simple for him going to go on. Dia some woody. Let's talk about. Sim raceway specifically. You mentioned any Hamlin in his comfort level there Alex one of the things he said over the weekend I thought was really interesting. It is still the same race track. But with the way restarts there are now with the new positioning at the start. Finish line. oftentimes you're starting restarting in the turn itself. And then you're fanning out five six wide before you gotta funnel it back down again. That's going to add to the whole level of crazy there. It absolutely is and when you look at the the last handful of races that I assume raceway in Phoenix. We've had a lot of long green flag run so those restarts at the conclusion of the stages or any caution flags for that matter They're going to be absolute chaos. So I love okay. The the thinking is here because if you have the chance to be a part of the championship four on points you're going to be awfully nervous when those restarts come around if you're chase L. E.. You got nothing to lose your relaxed. Go get it but you gotta be careful all the way around this place because if you get into the fence racing a little too aggressively or balance off of another car and have time maybe cut a tire down. If you have to make an unscheduled green flag pit stop. It doesn't matter if you need points or if you need a win the bottom bottom line is chances are your race is going to be over. So there's GonNa be some puckered up race car drivers on restarts remember because nobody nobody wants to be the guy that drops lug nut on the four tire change or can't get the car review order. Have the Jack Fall off out from underneath the Jack Peg on the side of the car. Little little tiny mistakes can absolutely not happen if you're one of the championship contenders all right. Mike there you go alex and Stephen. I've just solve all the world's problems now we'll just have have to wait and see how it plays out this

"Chase Elliott going to victory lane. Now back to Mike Bagley. Welcome back to ask our live as you heard there. It's been an impressive playoff so far for young chase Elliott of Dawson Ville, Georgia. He's already won three times in two thousand eighteen two of them coming in the last round of the playoffs are Kim. Kun sat down with chase over the weekend. With the latest edition of face to face. A standard statement every race win will chase Elliott win. He wanted. What Glenn he wanted to over today? He wins at Kansas speedway in the Hollywood casino. Four hundred three wins this season another saying, you know, you win one. Once you get to I one than others come easily. But from your perspective is that how it's felt no myth personally. I don't I mean to me. The only difference is we've been in better positions. I think the last couple months versus what we were say at the beginning of the year, whatever. So I think that's been the biggest difference is just having been in better position to closing a race which all that kind of gun. This comes down to being faster and being erased a top five if you're doing that, then he no, different strategies and things can be relevant to you. Otherwise, you're year on different game plans and whatnot for the back of the deal that doesn't really matter. So I think that's the biggest difference is just run better. Looking at this next row? Round. Is there one in particular that you feel more than any others that you guys could win and lock yourself into homestead like to think Kenny O M thing that's got to kind of be your mindset. I just don't think there's really any room. So to shrug a whole lot, you know in this round. And and you know, it's gonna be tough. There's a lot of a lot of heat now eight cars, and everybody's going to be pretty good. So it's yeah. Like, I said, it's not a lot of room for your definitely not a lot of rooms struggle and certainly can make any mistakes, you know. But yeah, I think any of them, you know, I think Texas to me is probably been our as of late in our biggest struggles since they repaved it. But yeah, I don't know. We'll see his fear that your team might get complacent because winds are nice and obviously to in the last three is a big deal. Is there any fear that they might just get, you know, comfortable with the winning situation and not put in the effort that you guys have seen over the last couple of weeks now. No, I think if we were going to get complacent it would have been this last round and just really really excited to see that. We did it as a whole and that. Yeah. Like nice that was right. You know, be really easy to take that win at Dover and cruise near the next two weeks and not bring our best effort. Talladega was was really bad. I thought you know, in general, obviously didn't work out. But you have to go to Kansas and and stay on kill. I thought was nice. And I think that everybody kind of had that mindset. So no, I don't expect at the change..

"We were all asking when chase Elliott bills kid, of course, was going to win a Cup race as part of the potent Hendrick squadron. His second of the season came, I think the perfect time Dover during the playoff round of twelve. How is he looking at this whole playoff picture? We once again, going to sneak you into a media center to listen to Rick Hendrick, Jeff Gordon and chase Elliott from Dover we go. But lots of good stuff in this on race line radio from what you learned being from the race year ago, is there anything that you really felt you put into us today? They're kind mentally you're strategically? Yeah, math. I think just mentally haven't low more confidence in, you know. Bob, I think that last year you get in those situations and you just. I don't know. But yeah, I think just having some more confidence going into into that. It was no. I mean, the ending was nothing like the race was last year, but it was certainly a tough ending with adversity restart on old tyres and having those guys coming on fresh tyres behind you. All that stuff adds up and it certainly wasn't the same complexion racy year ago, getting win at the same way. We lost it, but you know, still just to have some more confidence going into into those restarts and things is great. And the more you're in those positions, the better you feel obviously with this win, you don't have to worry about next weekend and you're locked into the next round. How big of weight off your chest is that? Oh, huge. I mean, I think it's it's nice to be able to know you're going to move on, but you can't get complacent in the fact that you are moving on and you can't let those points just sit out there and not try to get them because those those bonus points you get for winning or winning a stage or winning a race or whatever mess you and you know, you need as many as you could get one or two. Two points give you the difference in you make in the round of four, not. So just knowing that and you know not being complacent with a win, trying to go get another one or two before it starts, I think is is important with the strides that your team and you have made the season and now with the past into the round of a, what do you think is possible for the season? Anything's possible, man. I mean, there's no reason we can't make a run at this deal. I thought we made a great run last year personally. I like we went way further than anybody expected us to couple apps away from going to homestead. So the reason why we can't do that this year and get this guy's wrong Chessel NASCAR dot com.
