Brian Windhorst ‘Highly Doubts’ Ben Simmons and 76ers Can Repair Their Relationship

"Let's get to the latest surrounding ben simmons and the sixers keep pompeii the philadelphia inquirer reports that people in simmons's camp are not inclined to help the sixers find a trade partner for him so given the public criticism from doc rivers after the playoffs and how his name was in the james harden trade talks last season march sign of the times reports that the cavs are one team. That's interested in him so brian is there a chance for simmons to repair his relationship in philly. And if not where do you think he could end up. I've been around too long to say that. There's never a chance of anything. But i would highly doubt it One of the messages. That ben has sent back towards philly. Is that. It's not his job to fix his trade value. It's his job to correct. This trade value raises trade value. That is not something that is on the menu for him and so with that out there. I don't think he's interested in coming in and trying to change the situation and one thing that i think is interesting is that his contract is structured in a way that he's going to get half of his money by october first sixteen and a half million of thirty three million come before he has to worry about getting find a single dime for a forty one of his game. So he's going to have a war chest that he can. Just sit this out. Now i agree the cavaliers and other teams that are really interested in trading for a guy with four years. Left on their contract would be interested. That's also why. You've heard a mike minnesota and even potentially a team like san antonio these are organizations that typically don't do well in free agency and so the idea of getting a star player under four year contract is very attractive but dens value is so low right now and the expectations of daryl morey on a trailer so high we just are not neutral zone for any If any team at this

Bobbie Rosenfeld: The Olympian Who Could Do Everything

"Are not an ideal outfit for running now. They might sound unfamiliar to our ears today. But these puffed up pantaloons once grace the bottom halves and cavs of plenty of young women in the early nineteen. Hundreds there called pup tent bloomers because as pants. They're so big that they kinda look like those pup tents that soldiers would cover themselves in while sleeping underneath the stars even if you don't think they look like pup tents and i'll be the first to admit that they don't exactly in the nineteen ninety s. We would call these things hammer pants but they probably used about as much fabric as a pup tent did they were big bill louis and could balloon with air so not good athletic. Wear for someone trying to run fast. They'd catch the wind like a sail. Nevertheless there stood young. Bobbie rosenfeld at the starting line of a foot race that she hadn't even planned on running. She was being cheered on by oliver softball teammates wearing her wind. Grabby it's pup tent. Bloomers she was at a citywide picnic plate in a softball game but knowing how fast she was on the base paths. Her teammates convinced her to enter a one hundred meter dash. That just happened to be taking place nearby. She said yes without much thought and the next thing she knew the starting pistol was fired. Twelve point one seconds later bobby crossed the finish line before anyone else seemingly out of nowhere. A man came running up to her asking questions. Like where did you come from. Who are you. Have you run in competition before. And when he asked her if she knew who she had beaten. Bobby shrugged and said no. He told her that she had beaten canadian champion. Rosa gross. Bobby thought that was pretty cool. Then he asked. Do you know how faster time was bobby again. Said no he told her. It was twelve point. One seconds. The canadian record.

Farmers Are Feeling the Pain as Drought Spreads in the Northwest

"Nicole burg's wheat is so short and sparse. She doesn't think that combine can reach it without eating. Rocks combines don't like dirt and rocks at all like it. They don't like to eat them. They'll get indigestion. Berg is a dry land wheat farmer in the sweeping horse heaven hills of southeast washington state. She puts out one head amid a sea of wheat. See how the we had his curled like that and then you break into it you might have some berries down here but this will be empty all empty. There's no week in inside the we'd head. The berg's aren't the only one suffering. The region is bone dry from near the canadian border. Clear to the edge of nevada and the drought is spreading west over the cascades. Jeff mardi is a drought expert for the washington state department of ecology. He says despite good snowpack it hasn't been this dry since the nineteen twenty s. You know the story of the your gatien haves and have nots. Meaning those folks who Get their water from rivers or storage are probably going to be fine For their your gatien needs but the dry land users and the folks that have cattle that depend on forage on the ranch lands. They may be more challenged looking ahead. Marty says the warming climate mean more rain for the north west but also much less snowpack that melts sooner. That could stress water supplies even more this spring. It's also been windy here. Further drying out the landscape like a blow dryer on the east end of the columbia river gorge cattle rancher. Gary has is having a hard time to recently. Sold seventy mother cows with calves at their sides. To another operator out of wyoming. They had many more good cavs in them and he hated to see them go but he has no grasp to keep them.

Lakers Defeat Cavs As Buyout Market Heats Up

"Got a win and it was a good win. It was just a solid win where they got it done with defense 102 eighty-six. They get the double years old friend Larry Nance Jr. For the Cavs. My goodness, 17 points ten boards five assists nice outing for him. Great to see great dude, Larry Nance Jr. But it was the Lakers who really stole the show in the second half Murphy Flores coming up big for the Lakers 13 points. Don't normally see him in double-digits five boards plus a block three of seven from Deep kuzma only four points, but eight boards and seven assists again finding ways to log in even when he's not scoring so you gotta like that they're from him but 17 points from Dennis Schroder probably the story of the game four steals seven. It says five boards for of 10 shooting out for of Sorry 7 or 12 shooting my screen skipped a bit. They're seven of twelve shooting one of two from the three-point line two of two from the free throw line for steals seven turn off, but he had the ball in his hands pretty much the entire game whenever he was on the floor. He had the ball. So I guess we'll forgive him from that. But is he going to get paid? We need to talk a little bit about that cuz I'm getting a bit nervous about the job situation. And then of course Montrezl Harrell, ho-hum. Just doing Montrezl Harrell. Thanks 24 and 10. Come on mantras ten or fifteen shooting. Imagine. If you shot better than fifty percent from 3/4 of a table. I'm sorry from the free throw line for of eight from the free throw line tonight. That's not going to get it done. But seven offensive boards 10 boards and seven of them are on the offensive end just more amazing stuff from my name is Harold gotta love that.

"The cleveland cavaliers have just released a statement they have reached a buyout agreement with andre drummond and requested waivers on the veteran center. Koby the gm of the cavs says i want to thank andrea for his contributions to our team both on and off the court and for his professionalism and mutual cooperation and then he goes on to say nice things about drum but the bottom line is drummond is now yes in the waiver portal so any team can claim him. Lakers Upcoming Game Against the Cavaliers a Must-Win

"Lakers on Friday play the Cavs and on Sunday play the magic Yep. This is the first time ever that a Friday and Sunday game in March against the Cavaliers and Orlando Magic. I will consider must-wins. They gotta win at least one of those two games for me to have any sense of confidence about the team without LeBron and AD, you know, buy them the Lakers might have some new pieces, you know, there might be a different look of things. But yeah the first time in history a Friday and Sunday game in March against two of the worst teams in the league will be considered most wins. Yeah. I completely agree with you. If you look at the schedule that's coming up those those are two of the lighter games the Lakers get then they get the bugs they get the Kings and then right after that. It's just a murderer's row of teams and given, you know, we don't really have a clear timeline on when they D and LeBron will be back like what Ron said those games are kind of month. End of the Lakers want to tread water and stay afloat in the standings because you don't want them slipping all the way down to six seven eight. Now you're talking about playing tournament which you know, I wouldn't be concerned about it. But Lakers are healthy, but given, you know, the covid-19 pet demek the injury that the injuries are being sustained so far. You just never know. So the Lakers just need to find ways to scrap together wins in the mean time tonight. Not a good showing and does not inspire a lot of confidence, but you know crazy things happened. So we'll see. I also just want to throw in that, you know, the trade deadline is Thursday. So maybe guys today we're a little stressed out or worried about that. So maybe that wage muted. I don't know. But yeah, we'll see we we just need to scrap together wins and those games on Friday and Sunday Kind of almost must win at this point. Darn

Winter Weather Affects Daily Routines and Livestock

"Millions of americans were without power after a storm brought snow ice blackouts and record setting low temperatures to swaths of the country on monday. A tornado struck in north carolina. Killing three people whether in recent days has left at least twenty people dead according to the associated press as we talked about last night on the show one of the hardest hit states has been texas as people there deal with power outages and bitter cold. Some farmers and ranchers are facing a crisis for that we turn to market senator clinton web high quinton so quinton to quote the texas agriculture commissioner. No feed no water and no heat doesn't make for a good situation. What is agriculture. They're confronting right now. That's a very clear. Summary from the commissioner extreme weather in texas has very disruptive for the farming community of course texas is a major agricultural sense at one of the largest in the country by the livestock poultry and that has created all kinds of problems with this extreme winter weather so those range from pipes freezing which means that poultry farms get. What's two chickens to mills being unable to operate which means problems with creating new animal feed to you know problems with getting enough water for cavs castle to cavs dying of exposure. It's really very difficult picture. We should point out. Texas is home to one of the country's largest dairy herds. What's happening with milk production. That's right so there's one cooperative. For example in dallas as a consequence of power rationing. They have had to close that processing plant and of course kyrgyzstan stop producing milk. Just because the power is rationed and the press plan is closed and so that results in this terrible can of wasteful situation where the ultimate the farmers are forced to pour the unprocessed milk onto their fields. This is something we'll be watching throughout the day. Quinton web thanks so much. Thanks very much

A Deep Dive Into Rudy Gobert After the Jazz Lose To Denver

"Talk about Rudy. Gobert. What? What do we want to know about mr. Gaubert because I thought before today and obviously today is Sunday. I thought before the day that he was running away with the defensive player of the year award. And then today happened today happened. I would not go as far as running away with the defensive player wage. I thought he was running away. I thought it was a significant gap between him and everybody else. So I totally understand why you would say that their top five and defense coming into town today. They're really really good team Utah. They are arguably playing better before today than anybody in the NBA just point blank. Especially now that the Lakers have hit like off a bit of a bit of a malaise having said that I'm still saying Anthony Davis Ford Prince of player of the year because they've number one defense and he's the one the keys the number one defense in the NBA off. He's by far the most versatile defender in the NBA Rudy I think is a reasonable like honestly probably would be second for me right now Myles Turner has a case sneaky class that I've been advocating as much as I can Larry Nance would probably be in my top five right now. He is the whole reason that the Cavs have a reasonable defense. Yep. Right now a top-10 defense, but I digress nonetheless Rudy gobert has been very very good for the Utah Jazz this year and I thought that Utah's games this week. We're kind of a perfect encapsulation of the Rudy gobert experience against Dallas. He was the reason that they just come holy month and utterly annihilated the Mavericks in both of those games and I watched the first one close cuz I bet on Dallas because Utah was without Donovan Mitchell was without a favors and Dallas was getting back Dorian finney-smith was getting back to like Powell. I thought that they'd take that energy and catch you too on the back end of a back-to-back and be kind of run away with that game and that absolutely one hundred percent was the wrong side to be on and in large part. It was because of the incredible grass. City that Rudy gobert holds as a pick-and-roll offensive threat, he is completely obliterated kristaps porzingis in that in those two games like butterwood obliterated him like wipe them off the face of the Earth on both ends. He averaged 23 points and 16 rebounds. He had like three blocks. He had a couple of steals. He was dead thing that people who are Jazz fans and that yell from the rooftops about Rudy. Gobert. He was everything in those two games that people say about Rudy being like a top-12 impact player in the NBA. You'll hear sometimes in this game today against Denver Nikola jokic made him look like a parking cone on defense and

How to Avoid Becoming a Meal for a Cheetah

"The cheetah is the rarest big cat in africa less than seven thousand adults remain on the planet think of it this way for every cheetah on the planet. There's more than four starbucks. Coffee shops the most important cheetah stronghold is in central namibia but the cheetahs. They're don't live within national parks. They live on privately. Owned farmland. Pharma's having huge problems with cheetahs losing a lot of stuck and there are other farmers who actually didn't have any problem at all ecologists you're melts heimer from the live knits institute for zoo and wildlife research in berlin assumed at first that all farmers had cheetah trouble. It was just that some were more likely to complain about it. But after tracking fifty collared cheetahs he began to suspect that there really was a pattern to their killing by the time his team had data from one hundred six cheetahs colored over the course of a decade. Not only was. He certain that cheetahs were more likely to kill in some places than others but that he could solve the problem. We indeed found. These communication hubs of cheetahs which spread evenly across the landscape with a high activity of cheetahs within the hubs cheetahs. Aren a social species but they still need to trade information. They don't meet physically typically not but they leave marks and prominent lent marks and whether they either use during fees to communicate with each other. Think of it as a coffee shop for cats where animals trade gossip even though these communication hubs only comprise around ten percent of the landscape cheetah. Spend most sometimes all of their time within them. These basically a long-term tradition which is passed on from cheetah generation to cheetah generation Some of these communication hubs basically no-no. Let's say the mocking location. Mocking trees were known by farmers. For sixty seventy years like the grandfather of current farmer already knew the mocking cheese in this area. What the farmers never realized is that only some farms overlap with the cheetahs communication hubs melts. Heimer thought that if those farmers relocated their most vulnerable herds. It could be a huge help. Here remembers the first farmer. He tried to convince and i told him. Look wilfred i have. I have the idea that they are actually there because of these mocking trees. And you happen to have your small shops accepting the same area. Let's try to move your herds out of this area and and keep them somewhere else and then let's measure the losses. And he was laughing at me said i can nice idea but i'm not sure whether it's going to work. They would probably follow the cast so we tried this. Actually it worked and he. He earned much money because he lost less cavs. After that thirty-five more farmers agreed to try it out in all the number of calves to cheat. Predation fell by a whopping eighty six percent. Of course some cattle outside of communication hubs were still lost. The cheetah's but it was at a low enough level that most farmers seem to tolerate it. What this means is that. Cheetahs aren't actively following the cattle. They simply take advantage of whatever food is available nearby. If it's not cattle then they go after. Wild ungulates springbok orix or coup. There are no so called problem. Cheetahs who intentionally seek out cattle instead there are problem areas. That's a much easier problem to solve. And it's one that doesn't result in farmers killing cheetahs melts. Heimer is now hard at work collecting tracking data from cheetahs in other parts of africa to see whether his findings hold up in other ecosystems so often it seems as if the goals of wildlife conservation are incompatible with the goals of commerce but this story reveals that infect biodiversity and agriculture can coexist allocates is really one of these nice example which can go hand in

"That is not sound like a very great team by any means right and they got two wins okay they went who games in that finals which was a bit ridiculous okay they lost game one not one game to not one game three cavs were up to one in that series at one point it's a bit surprising okay and i mean comparing the two teams i don't know which team is better okay instead it'd be starting point guard being mad dell dell dovan george hill would you say that's an upgrade i'd say so okay and you get guys like mike miller jr smith still there let's see i'll say jordan clarkson over mike miller i guess willie barely played that season is uses trade was very low i'd say that given the taking love and from that team chosen fourteen thousand fifteen like you're gonna have love for this series to most likely so i'd say that this team is probably i'd say this team is better compared to the team tells fourteen thousand fifteen but it's just let's not forget that the warriors got better too not forget that the war's added kevin durant let me see like it find that warriors roster from the same series also i will give us a little bit more because obviously you don't have harrison barnes there or anything like that and i think that this is going to be left last installment all right of this little rivalry and i'm not sure really.

"They told they told him don't get on the plane that is funny yeah so just the south you know a couple of players in the cavs locker were saying they'd never seen a series where there was such a stark difference between teams play at home and road right and it certainly ranks is is i can remember not just in the home team winning we see that but in terms of the cavs have been absolutely abysmal in boston the celtics absolutely abysmal in cleveland it hasn't been that enjoyable of a series for first series that's close and we'll switch over to houston here in a minute but i don't know it's funny how it unfolds because it's almost formulaic like the first thing i did look at look at the box from like okay did they shoot twenty five percent from three point land again cleveland here in boston they did yes they did and did the celtics spread out there scoring back here at home yes they did all the things you need did l horford now albert for didn't have a fabulous game but he went back to being all of your food right and that's that's who l is because so many of the things out does and we talk about this all the time or the intangibles especially on the defensive end and you know i thought one of the great adjustments at the celtics made that the cavs did not capitalize on brian and i expect them to do in the next game is so clearly made a decision first of all they put baynes in the lineup so that takes away the whole tristan thompson thing the first thing but the second thing is on that switch that they were doing where lebron's up on terry rosiere which was clearly a problem what they decide to do now in this game was terry would show rosiere would show or hedge whichever word you like better and then go back and then scamper back to his man now that was a good strategy to stuff lebron into into prevent that match which is clearly favorably lebron from happy but the way you explained that is you make the extra pass and you get you get the celtics in that scramble like what did these to call miami the mixer right where you have to rotate rotate rotate do that and they didn't do that.

"On the bench but but now boston goes on the road boston hasn't been great on the road the cavs are going to be home so are we writing the cavs off a chance to get back then the maybe i'll regret this i said i was concerned i'm not saying the celtics have won this series i watched the celtics play to great home games against the team very similar hot gold of the cavs this year in milwaukee and then go to milwaukee lose those two in that series went seven games but now the cavs got to win four out of five now the cavs have to win one game on the road which they going into the series obviously but now it's going to have to either game five or game seven if they get there and they no longer have and this is what i'm curious real quick your thoughts on this i had the confidence and i felt they had the confidence that if lebron's great will be okay we'll lebron's had a forty point triple double last night and twenty one points in the first quarter and they lost going away i wonder what that does to the other guys on the team who feel wait so lebron can't single handedly beat this team the way he was able to against the pacers the way he's been able to in the past for us it's to cavs goal they gotta get this back to to some type of way now i believe going into the series the celtics going to win this series but i don't sit here today and think the series is over in lebron james at home they can easily have this two to two and then what's going to happen to i don't believe the homecourt advantage i do believe the home court advantage and the role players of the celtics will be the big difference in this well the cavs have until saturday now to figure out how to get back into the series they trail oh to to the boston celtics in eastern conference finals coming up stocks football lane johnson friend of the show he's got more to say about what's going on in new england t here this next on firstly.

"Boy i'm just saying like you're telling me that the pacers look better than the sixers or the cavs look better than the sixers the sixers are playing like physically on a different level than the cavs the cavs are like hopefully calc over can bail us out lebron is like sub superhuman yeah that's no that's the thing about the sixers as they have they have play style and it fits their players and the coaches totally aligned with what the players wanna do and how they wanna play and they have a system that works and that's not a thing that you can save for clambering team in the cleveland is basically like lebron save us please every night every second that they're out there i mean and the bucks are like looking for thing that will work on a consistent basis the celtics are decimated and why are we talking about the number one and the rapanui cages be like that like what is it like let's actually interrogate why do we always just shy away from talking about this team no central tension there that's new we've been doing for four years now at the rat and i also finders fans and say you've been ignoring them for four years it's not like you guys spent forty raptors headlines well i had i was just begging pelicans news i know and as we've seen in this postseason were kind of true and i also don't like the backlash to that backlash because it's like all you guys just don't watch your real basketball which my counter to that is like fuck l listening.

"They are yeah that was the cavs taking a flaming shot at a party and thinking they were the shit but listen i the one thing that i seriously wanna push back on a little bit is i think you're right that right now tyler new doesn't trust any of his guys and doesn't have a coherent rotation i just think that that has been true of the cavs in the past as well and we've we've seen this come together as they start to win playoff series and as they start to to gather momentum and and i think that is going to happen to some degree obviously there's less weapons there than there have been an impasse years but i think that they're going to be okay it's and if they lose to the sixers if that if that's a series we end up getting or if they lose the raptors it's going to be more about out how much better their competition has gotten over the last year than than like total cavs dysfunction i guess that's true if they lose the sixers if they lose the rafters we could pin it on cavs dysfunction but the sixers are also just like better than any team they've had to deal with well i think you know even with the raptors i mean if the raptors knocked him out and they just took care of home court and just beat him in a shootout i would say that's not just cavs dysfunctions toronto being a better version of themselves to and so i think if you combine those two factors fewer weapons for lebron less continuity because of all the injuries and he spoke about that after game one and i was glad he did because that's what i saw when he was here in l a in march you know it was just like he's out there with random guys seem to have a lot of mutual affection for anyone on his roster besides jr smith and some of that stuff has still been evident and that's why he has to go into forty six point mode because you know he's looking around saying you know i don't really know who have my roster is and i definitely don't trust them to to win a playoff game for me so the power of lebron could easily carry them.

"Like the cavs have been missing after roster for most of the last couple of weeks and i don't know my first reaction is is yes the injuries should be concerning to the warriors and the celtics and the cavs and it really changes the narrative because like for most of the season golden state in cleveland have been considered foregone conclusions golden state obviously more so than cleveland and even celtics were considered a foregone conclusion to be like challenging in the east but like all these teams should be pretty freaked out we're not that far away from the playoffs here and you are you really going to sit there and suggest that health is important to winning are you really going to make such a cold not the hottest take i'm not saying that it's some sort of bold proclamation but like i think you and i when we were talking about the warriors after steph surgery neither one of us were that concerned about the bigger picture but now literally like steph clay and katie are out draymond hasn't looked healthy for most of the year and then i mean that's before you even look at the cavs and the celtics without mark mart haven't been the same team i mean i don't know there are a lot of real red flags here there definitely are i mean to me one of the turning points andrew was actually klay going down in part because claes basically enjoyed perfect health for availability for his entire career ever as as you and i know the greatest ability is availability klay thompson prior to his recent thumb injury had appeared in ninety seven point six percent of the warriors regular season games during his career and he had never missed.

"Kevin did you see the um did you seen the some of the pick and roll numbers involving kevin love's i have not seen those but i'm imagining that they are quite bad so the other night when the pacers played the cavs they ran twenty six pick and rolls um with denied did not as sapone us as the screener too modest and eighteen of them were when love his guarding him and on the love plays they averaged one point five points per possession on those pick and roll shoes and loves defensive rating this year is a hundred sixteen points per 100 possessions i mean the loved thing at center was an absolute disaster but it's not like moving him to power forward putting tristan thompson elida fixed everything or any day while considering that they're playing one of the classic big bruising centers in court taught tonight i'm not ruling out secrets that they could start this is can't or at the very least bring him in pretty quick i kind of the celtics my do not use him in the world that intervenes has ended up playing where you know he's kind of the guy who plays 10 minutes and i basically start started the game in this third while the wizards starting unit i believe is if not the best starting unit in the league one of the best hurting innocent league so the cavs have been horrible in the first quarter so if they think they're just going to hold their nose with love for the first six minutes in this game i got news for they're going to have real greater pick and rolls with core todd in all in wall and beal at the top of the key in they're gonna put him in a blunder right you were you saw.

"Like yeah exactly so yeah it's just a little bit extra okay so let's move on to the celtics now that we've talked about the cavs and it's kind of weird that the trade was between the cavs and the celtics because it's almost like it you know the divisions heal matter in the nba right and so you always talk about never trading inside your division in a sport like based more for ball where does matter i think it's almost like you never trade among tears uh within the conference in some ways and and the cavs and the celtics are both really gunning for the same prize and they're right on the cusp of the same prize which is the the eastern conference championship so my question uh first of all is how good are the celtics now with career having and also with gordon hayward and and basically the overhaul version of the celtics that danny ainge put together this summer are they good enough to beat the cavs and and dare i say could they even contend with the warriors if if and when they did make the finals what what are we think about this new celtics team so i mean like it's an entirely new completely new so like at what happened last year with the celtics like really just doesn't have any bearing like the one of like the the biggest like through lines is going to be like jaylen brown who like late in the end with a terrible when he did play right he was he was good for stretches but like yeah overall like his numbers were like not that good to look at but like as a rookie getting in and like putting in solid playoff minutes is pretty rare so like you kind of adjust for that i think but like so you're looking at like so hiree irving comes to the boston celtics but like not just that so gordon hayward already was gonna have to fit into the system and then jason tatum and jaylen brown like both are going to have pretty big roles especially with you know crowder stepping out so.
