"Vegas West Gate Resort and casino. Make sure you stop by there and tell them to mean jeans show city over there now. I mentioned right before the end of the first half of the show. That I would be talking with New York giant sports writer Pat Leonard, and that's what we're going to do. But at the beginning of the show, I mentioned that we would have Andrew the Checo on Andrew covers. The Philadelphia Eagles for 97.3. In South Jersey. So we're going to bring Andrew on the show next week. Okay? My apologies. Eagles fans, You have to wait just one more week. And I mean football season. It's not going to start until September, anyway. But don't worry. Andrew will be here. He's going to talk about the Eagles. He's going to talk about Carson Wentz. He's going to talk about Doug Peterson. I promise you we will have him on the show. But for Giants fans We're going to go ahead and talk with Pat Leonard, New York Giants interesting football team, of course, a lot of changes over the last few years still hard to believe that the New York Giants We're the only team that could beat the New England Patriots and Super Bowls. It just seems like it only happened in Super Bowls and regular seasons. Different stories, but Super Bowls it was it was different. And what was even more amazing was that it was Eli Manning. That was the quarterback. Uh, to do it. But no more. Eli Manning, now the New York Giants, different team now different Head coaching. Um, staff. Just everything's completely different about the New York Giants. So we'll talk with Pat landed to see exactly what direction the New York Giants. It's going to be going in last year that NFC East was a disaster. No one wanted to win the division. I think the Washington football team eventually won that division. So we're going to be looking at the NFC E s. And I think we'll probably get someone on from the Dallas Cowboys as well in the Washington football team, so we can just clearly look at that entire division. We're gonna try to cover every NFL division before the start of the season, so we Got a couple of months because, you know, moving fast here. Oh, Tia's mandatory mini camps and all of that stuff, and I know you package fans probably can't wait till we get to the and if See North to see exactly what's going on. We're actually trying to give Aaron Rodgers time to come back. Okay, we That's what we're trying to do. We're trying to stall as long as we can to see. And of course, the A F. C. Wes. We will probably save the A F C West for last and then see what the Las Vegas graters are going to be doing. And great information will be come in front of Las Vegas Greatest in the weeks to come. So we are not going to wait any longer. Uh, this wasn't interview that I had with Pat Leonard. Talking about the New York Giants. Pat once again is with the New York Daily News. My next guest is a sports writer. He covers the New York Giants for the New York Daily News, please welcome Pet Leonard to the show. Hello, Pet. Me, Jean. How you doing? Hey, I'm doing great man. I'm glad to have you on here today. I, uh I have to start with the most important question until the upcoming season who would be the quarterback for the New York Giants? Quarterback will be Daniel Jones. But the question is whether or not he's the guy for the next five and 10 years, too, and the Giants have added a lot of talent and a lot of pieces around him. For the coming season. It's kind of it's kind of a make or break year for him. You know a lot of quarterbacks now. It doesn't even really take them three years to get going. They make that jump, usually by year two. The most recent example is Josh Allen, with the Bills making a huge leap, um as a young quarterback, and really going from a guy who Was Um, talented player with some shortcomings and turning into a bona fide M v p candidate as a young guy growing with the Bills team that nearly reached Super Bowl, and so Daniel Jones needs to take that step for the Giants. Uh, Joe Judge and their team played some pretty good defense last year to kind of weather the storm at times, but there were only six and 10 and the main reason was they couldn't score enough points, so the pressure is on Daniel Jones. He's the guy. How they go, is how he goes. You know what, and the NFC East was pretty much wide open last year. I mean, I think everyone has made some significant changes heading into this new season. I think the Eagles may have made the most drastic ones that press God returned for. Dallas Washington looks to improve What are your expectations for the Giants this year? Think they could win the division. I'm not going to predict them, too, though, but he's not at this point until they show me something on the field because even though they have added a lot of players, they haven't been on the field all together at one point in a full practice yet, so can it really come together quickly in a month? Kenny Golladay. Receivers Take long, Barkley coming back off injury. They got Kyle Rudolph at tight end. But Rudolph and Barkley are still rehabbing and gala day only just got on the field for some soft mini can't work, so they're gonna need to put it together on the fly. Um, you know, I like what you said about kind of the NFC East and what everyone has done here because to me, too, I think sometimes fan bases and for good reason. In the off season, it becomes Hope Springs eternal and Everyone thinks they have a shot, and that's a good thing. But I like the thing I like to say to people is, remember. You have to play somebody else, you know?.

"Unless they over even though i don't really believe in carson wentz anymore but i think that team is good enough in the division isn't amazing although i think the titans now should be favored to win it. It's a good over under by you. Kinda close. I think it's in that range. I could see them like making the playoffs but then like losing in the first round. So i'm gonna take the over. What about you so twenty. One is a spot where they would make the playoffs because Washington for example was the had the highest pick of any team that made the playoffs. They picked nineteenth Last year now that there are fourteen teams that make the playoffs in the nfl So i said at a spot where they make the playoffs. But i don't think they're gonna make the playoffs. I think tennessee is gonna win that division. And i don't think they're gonna win wildcard and the reason why for me. It's very simple and because their quarterback was the worst starting quarterback in the nfl last year and is now their quarterback. And i think he's downgraded from philip rivers and they're going to win some games like i think they're going to be somewhere around like five hundred but i will pick the under on the twenty one point five then we'll finish up year with a related note personal Percentage of snaps played you. Put it at seventy five. Even obviously the context here is if carson wentz lays seventy five percent of the cold snaps last year. The colts wilson a twenty twenty matter. What no matter what no matter what the other condition being that if the colts make the playoffs and carson wentz please at least seventy percent they also get a first-round pick. It's weird if there's no. Senators are so close to each other. I wonder what the. I wonder what the go sheeting process was on that. I thought we've talked about that. That's the seventy percent thing is like. It's a protection against sitting starters in the final week. All right that makes sense so close and then they sit the starter and it's like. Hey what are you doing kind of protects against that lot. It got it that makes sense. Okay yeah so. I'm gonna take the over on this. I think i forget what his career averages by believe it's over over this actually for carson wentz snaps played for his career. So it's not like history is against him even though he has been hurt. It's an interesting question. Consider just because i'm so fascinated by the protect your investment angle to this like 'cause the be stuck in there becomes a point where it's just not worth it to keep playing because you need to protect that this pick is going to be like a top five pick and there's no way the colts are gonna let it convey to the eagles ryan do that. Now i see the gray area and it's kind of like do we need to make a decision on this. I think they lean towards keeping wentz in. Because i think they're going to value the relationship with lance more than the pick if it kind of has to be a choice between those two and it's not very clearcut they i think they're gonna lean towards keep letting him play So i'm gonna take the over on this but they're there is downside in injury and performance. Yeah i mean it's going to be tough for them to bench him esp- especially if he's not playing terribly but they're just not winning games for whatever they if you benjamin that point you're basically telling the entirety of the team We think a draft pick is more important than this season. That you work your ass off. Ford i for the last you know seven months or whatever. So that's gonna be hard for them to do like wentz has to legitimately be really bad For them to bench him. But yeah. I think. I think we'll cross that seventy five percent threshold this year Because they're going to be. I mean they're going to be in contention for that division for the entirety of the season and You know i'd like. I said i think the titans are gonna win the division ultimately but It's not like they're gonna be out of it by the time like november rolls around where the just like. Okay we'll we're not gonna win division. Were almost certainly not gonna make the playoffs. Let's make sure we get. Let's make sure we keep our first round pick. I don't think that's going to happen. So i do think he's going to be for me. It's really just a matter of kennedy. Stay healthy and i'll bet on that happening something about recently as we wrap up here Is is kind of funny. How as recently as last year. Oh can wednesday healthy wednesday healthy but that was still a the biggest talked him but then he gets trained to the colts and now it's just like oh easily agreement. We'll have the injury thing like it used to be. The opinion like i thought that was overblown to be clear that you look at some of the injuries. It's not always the same stuff. That's fluky stuff although it's a point of concern but it's kind of funny to me how that shifted. It's like he's on villi anymore now. The injuries are not even mentioned. And it's just dislike. Assumed he's going to be good like the national Narrative is like he's back the frank reich. Everything is fixed the hotel. Have this amazing offense of wine. I think is necessary. Drew with that somehow gets accepted. Fact the net like wentz's it's gonna automatically be better hundred. Sign the question. You just put them in. A better situation is gonna do great. So i'm gonna take the over like my washing machine on the spin cycle right now but that's just So yes we we agree there. Did you track these. We've been going along. I did a room down. I will have these again. Posted on bleeding greenish.

"Miles sanders. There's another one yours miles sanders. A one thousand. Twenty three point five rushing yards. I have no idea where you're coming up with that number. So that is his per game pace last year. Justice seventeen games so he hasn't had that thousand yard receiving season yet and obviously injuries held him down a little bit last rushing to be clear. Yes yes sorry rushing yards by the way. Remember the last time that you had a thousand yard. Rusher gibb well. Obviously sean is in there. But i think if there's one since then and i can't make one so i i think it's leshan and what year was during the chip years Wouldn't they trade him. Was it during the twenty fourteen off now during the twenty fifteen offseason so it would be. It would be up to twenty fourteen correct because they only have one year up tomorrow. Mary thinking about that. You'll have not had thousand yard receiver or rusher in a league. Estate of the league. Offense has never been easier since two thousand fourteen like. What are you doing here. So over under a mile. Sater's i'll take the under all day on that. I like sanders. And i think he's gonna come back and he's gonna have a bounce back season of sorts but i'll take the under for a couple of reasons one These had injuries. And that's a position where you have a lot of injuries. I don't know how many like i'd like to see. How many running backs actually go over a thousand yards per season these days. So i don't think it's that that common like it was ten twenty years ago and then also. I think they're going to give playing time to other running backs to like boston. Scott and to kenneth gain well. And then i think. Kerryon johnson makes the roster. I just a little profile on him and his major appeals that he's good in pass protection. So i think in situations where it's you know very clear that they're going to be throwing the football he's going to see some snaps maybe not necessarily as a receiver but just as an extra blocker next to jalen hurts there so i think he's going to be splitting carries a little bit and i think they might do that on purpose even to some degree to keep them healthy so i think it's a eaten certainly do it like he's talented enough to over that that mark but i'll take the safe bet here and i'll go under. I'm surprised because last year your the miles sanders. I think over under very bullish on miles last year and less bullish so this year. I think the reasoning there's fair. I think it's definitely not a lock he gets here. It's not like Safe or simply projected as it is devante but i think miles sanders can kind of doubts back overall even though he was good as runner last year. Not so much as a receiver I also think having jalen hurts here is a boon for him. I mean we kind of saw that towards the end the last season you know remember that saints game specifically where like jalen hurts his threat as a runner gotta help give you know miles sanders some more juice so and i think they might have to rely on miles sanders a little bit more. You know unhurt isn't a guy probably want throwing like four forty times a game or you know the high number of pass attempts so i think miles sanders can do that especially with the seventeenth game here and it might be a little bit close but But i'll take the over on that one. Let's do more then we'll take a break. We going to do ten ten ten in each segment. We'll do eight eleven and eleven because we talked a little bit at the Doubt dallas. Got her eight hundred and nine point. Five receiving yards And i'm guessing that's another situation where you just extrapolated his numbers over seventy games You know what. I'm gonna go over on that because i mean i'm scared off a little bit by the but i just said about my sanders in that. Dow scott are also has been injured know his share in the nfl in his young career. Here but he's got no zakar to contend with anymore his backup tight end presumably is backup tight end. Richard rogers who is just there to kind of be a body at that second tight end and as we mentioned already while devante smith We i believe he's going to be a volume catcher in this offense that's the only volume catcher. They have in his offense. So i think he's going to get like you said earlier like i don't think he's gonna be a high target high volume guy i think he's going to be sort of. I sort of agree. Like i don't think they're gonna throw or force right. They're not going to throw it to him the same way that they threw zach ertz but i do think that he is going to play a lot like he's gonna play close to one hundred percent of the snaps this year. Like i'd say as only stays healthy like over ninety percent of the snaps. I would say so. The opportunities are going to be there. And i think he's got a couple big games in him. Maybe this year So yeah i'll i'll go out on a limb unloaded here. I'll go over that eight or nine point five. I'm actually gonna take the under this one The injuries you mentioned. I just don't really think again. Like jalen hurts is always necessarily looking to throw tight ends the same way. That carson wentz was I liked al scattered lot but again we also have not seen him. As a proven like volume increased volume target offense. He's kind of been more like inefficiency guy. I would argue. You know like picking his spots. Where so many. It's not like he had these monster performances. When hurts was in there when hurts took over the games that he started douse cutter had forty three yards near thirty nine yards in the thirty eight yards and he didn't play in the final so like i don't know i just don't know that we have the evidence that we've got it. It's really explode. I think he's probably gonna have his best season sure. That's not really saying much because we'll be guy most of the season. But i don't know if he makes it over. That might be just in the seventeen hundreds or you might just be under my eight. Oh nine number eight hundred Around that but But yeah. I don't take the under that one all right. Let's break here so before we go to break to me Take the over on satisfaction. I don't know how that makes sense. But just do it. Take the one hundred percent. What's what's the percentage chance. You're going to be satisfied if you get the over ninety nine point nine percent are you taking. I'm taking under. I'm taking the over on that to me because they allow lock it in it. You're you're gonna love this. A lot of bgn radio listener seriously have bought it in seemingly liked it. I've not heard any complaints like legitimately and you're making that up are being hyperbolic. I have not heard anyone complain about right to capture key..
Indianapolis Colts Select Azeez Ojulari in Post Free Agency Mock Draft
"Matt dollinger. Senior editor at the ringer and former lowly intern of the two thousand colts with the twenty first. Pick in the twenty twenty one. nfl draft. The indianapolis colts select aziz osha. Laurie out of georgia. I'll be honest. I'm tempted to take jones here. Because i obviously don't trust carson wentz but diseases the best pass rusher in the draft and he might be undersized but so we're dwight frene ian robert mathis. I like that. Wow that was. That was concise all encapsulated. That was how can tell intern with the two thousand nine colts. I love that colton play. They inspect so oziel ours. Your number one pass rusher. Why did you all twenty one here. And he's everyone else really dumb for not listening to you No i so know. I think this this rusher classes bachelor. Classes vary Hard to predict what how the or of the these guys are gonna come off the board. I think with oh jewelry. It's because he's a little undersized as don mentioned he's he's six foot two so that's generally speaking like shorter than you wanna passer should be however he does make up for it with incredible length. His a really wide wingspan long arms Good burst bend. I like skill set. you know. He had some really impressive russia's where he like. You almost looks like von miller where you're like bending around the corner getting really low dipping your shoulder and getting back to the cornerback So i think there's a skill set to work with their but yet speaking of the pastors for classes just basically. There's no one clear elite guy in the class. And whether it's you know a russo or jalen phillips or og. Larry couple of other guys is basically pick your flavor. Whatever type of player. You'd think has chance of succeeding in your scheme. I could see any of these guys be the first pass. Rusher pick
Indianapolis is 'the best place' for Wentz to turn career around
"This fresh start in Indianapolis does Utopia because from what we saw last year, Carson Wentz wasn't a pro ballplayer. Carson Wentz played a role in the Philadelphia Eagles becoming a joke. Carson Wentz can escape that in Indianapolis. This is the best place for Carson wants to turn it around. Look, GR Sport
Philadelphia Eagles loaded with picks in 2021 and 2022 NFL drafts
"Meanwhile the eagles bill their quarterback situation felt even more unsettled than miami's. Who's getting of confidence there. It's jalen hurts right. I mean their own second year quarterback is really entrenched now as the starter in twenty twenty one and there presumably not going to go after a quarterback at twelve so hurts will get the twenty twenty one season to prove his mettle as starter while the eagles will many as three first round picks and twenty twenty two depending on. How carson wentz does indianapolis so this is a win win for philadelphia
Wentz moves on from Philadelphia Eagles, gets fresh start with Indianapolis Colts
"Podcasts. Strong takes Jr's Gundam Carson Wentz should view this fresh start in Indianapolis does Utopia because from what we saw last year, Carson Wentz wasn't a pro ballplayer. Carson Wentz played a role in the Philadelphia Eagles becoming a joke. Carson
Philadelphia Eagles Sign Super Bowl 47 MVP Joe Flacco
"Big news coming out of philly. Yesterday joe flacco agreeing to a contract with the eagles. It's a one year deal. Three and a half million dollars. Guaranteed the opportunity to win. Four million more in incentives. Now what does this mean. As far as the eagles and their draft plans remember. They only have one quarterback on the roster until this and that's jalen hurts and they have the six pick in the draft and as you see mel kiper junior and his latest mock has been taking the superstar receiver tamar chase from lsu which would be awfully knife or any quarterback that they have there but so does this mean mel again. It is not your expectation mel with us field. Yates as well here today. It does this mean and again. You're you're mock has them taking chase anyway but the signing flacco does that in your view. Close the door on any possibility that they draft a quarterback at number six. I think they would even going in before flacco. You think about. Joe flacco wise ian eagle thinking about the baltimore raven connection with the philadelphia eagles. Joe douglas and joe flacco who drafted where the want super bowl with the baltimore ravens. So there's that always that connection you can always go to. Guys are picked up later in their career. So for joe. Douglas bringing in a joe flacco you think about what he was doing with the jets in terms of the situation there. And then you've got the philadelphia eagles their same type of thing that raven connections. So i think when you look backing up jalen hurts right now. I don't think he's a threat. I think jalen that guy get jomar chase and go four with him and help jalen hurts and then reassess after the year's over that's what they will do that influence with the raven organization in philadelphia as a factor. I think it's a factor throughout the green and there always is joe. Flacco is a good backup came in the league. Same your matt ryan did and that ryan slow playing great football of course super bowl but Joe flacco did. But i think it's a good situation to have joe flacco there behind. The jalen hurts. Jalen hurts gets hurt. Your season's not over joke and still play. But i think this is jalen team right now. I thought it was carson wentz's team that didn't work out. But i think if you get your march help jalen hurts and then you make your decision air to this year whether in the twenty twenty two draft you have to think about drafting. A young quarterback failed. Same question to you. Does this mean in your mind that the eagles are out of the quarterback market at six. It does not greedy in. Here's a simple reason. Why i agree with everything else that i'm going to double back to that in just a moment. I just have long believed that if you are convinced. A player can be a franchise quarterback that if he's available at six. You have to at least consider it. If you're philadelphia. Now that being said all the indications this offseason from the previous reporting from more about the eagles plan to build around jalen hurts this year plus the signing of joe flacco which at least gives them a veteran option at the very least relatively modest priced by the way three point five million dollars. There are so many signs at the plan. This year is to find ways to make jalen hurts better so i still believe that ultimately the eagles are gonna be in prime position to land one of the best pass catchers in this year's draft a quarterback should not be entirely ruled out. And that's just me having seen the league long enough to know that sometimes teams do things the catch us by surprise even if they should not have caught us by surprise
Philadelphia Eagles' Darius Slay Meets With New Coach
"Try to keep his posit possible but coming on philly a lot of negative with the carson wentz situation. Doug peterson gone. new head. Coach has a press conference. That is completely botched. I mean it did not go fantastic. Have you talked to the new head coach. Have you gotten a chance to kind of meet. Maybe new coaches. And how do you feel about the season going in. Feel good man. I met with all the coaches have taught man looking forward to seeing what they could bring to the table. Men helping me. Elevate my game than have must elevate as a as a team so You know. I got high hopes man. They come in there with a lot of energy and You know the first thing. I talked to manage managers base say. Football's will be fine and that's what it's all about having fun. It was a good though. Pretty smooth like the way he was way better than his. That's what i was trying to get to your. I didn't wanna come out. I appreciate getting there. Yeah because if i saw that press conference i'd be looking at that. My i got some questions here now. How this guy nice to know that. It's a smooth compensation football being fun less thinking more athlete takeover. That is really good news for
Carson Wentz Says Goodbye To Philadelphia Eagles, Welcomes Fresh Start With Indianapolis Colts
"Carson. Wentz officially introduced as a colts. Now that we're day into the new league year and went hoping for world. Class makeover in indy with frank reich. Who made a big bet on wins putting his career on the line bringing the quarterback. They were an excellent match before the colts. Well built around wins. So here's what went said today about his fresh start. You know you gotta just be intentional. One by one build those relationships and like you said respect is earned not giving so. I look forward to earning a lot of guys respect and You know i i. I'm confident that that will happen. Go trike. I'll never forget when i was working out in fargo north dakota before the draft. It was an instant that we just had this connection on how we see the game and how he challenge each other and ultimately make each other better super excited about getting to work with him again. Because i have the utmost respect for the man that he is also. The coach. study is as well guys here with you for the next hour as well as schefty didn't orlowski. Marcus spears matt miller will join us for a little draft talk later but let's get back to what we just heard from. Carson wentz introduced today. Dan alaska simply is this. How does he move. Forward was carson wentz's success this year. We'll start off the field. There are more questions than answers about him right now. So how is it going to turn the bad of last year into the good this year. What did you learn when it comes to relationships. How are you going to be better at relationships. How are you going to be better at leadership. How are you going to be better at handling the adversity off the field. I mean he just talked about earning the respect of his teammates and in the locker room. Think about this. He can go into that locker right now. This is what i would do if i was him. Sit down with those new coach teammates. How did philip rivers do it. Filled came from a different team and he came down year. What did he do. Endeared himself to you guys how did he earned your respect. What's what's stuff that that clicked with you guys because the reality is you don't have to sit here and say that you've got to be somebody or not. You can still be the genuine authentic person that you are but the reality is you should be ever changing. You should be ever-growing. And i liked the fact that he said. I've got to be intentional because the truth is this when september comes. No one cares about your excuses. Excuses or explanations you've got to figure out in the next five months in the midst of unique off season again how to earn. How do prove to your teammates that you're the guy proved to your teammates that you will take over this locker room and become part of it. That's his biggest challenge and once he realizes that off the field is equally if not more important on the field. That's when he can start to rebuild his career. Yeah no doubt. I think self awareness as well like the indianapolis colts need carson wentz to come and fix them as a football team he needs to. They need him to come. Add to what they already have going already building. And there's a amount of pressure on carson winston. He never felt in philly because of the situation. And he walks into. And they are frank reich as well like frank reich has attached is job to carson wentz internally him around and making him the quarterback that that can get team to where they think they can go but india set. They have a good offense around. Obviously they make moves at tackle. They have a good running back. Good receivers a defense that at the top level of the nfl last year. so carson winston is not coming into a bad situation this is a rehab for carson wins. This is not a rehab for the indianapolis colts. He needs to be aware aware of that as well. And look i wish and hope that carson wentz turns this thing around and has a lot of success. I'm just going to sit back and see how he handles the pressure. Because now you're on a playoff team. You're around got dairies. Linda put it out there right here to win. Don't care about what you have to say don't care about your past that these that transpired pencil tired about if you're going to come play for the indianapolis colts come to win. So there's a lot on the line of course a wins but there's also a lot on the line for the indianapolis colts football team as far as where they wanna go and a hell of a lot of framed right for sticking his neck out there to say i'm the guy that can get the carson that we saw in twenty seventeen. And if he is. The indianapolis colts are absolutely a legit super bowl contender.
Dallas Cowboys Reach Multi-Year Deal With Star Quarterback Dak Prescott
"Salary cabin number for two thousand and twenty one is going to be twenty two point two million dollars all right now. Head dak prescott. In franchise tag again this will happen in a procedural sense but had to cow tried to go at this with dak prescott on the franchise tag for the two thousand and twenty one season. We've talked about this a number of times. That value would have been thirty. Seven point seven million dollars so the fact that the cow is now have him onto the books. We're talking about the value that is on the books in the books. However you want to look at the books whether they're e books or physical books whatever the case may be that value is now twenty two point two million dollars now. I know that we have all said some things about the dallas cowboys but they are not complete dummies. They surely budgeted for the franchise tag value. Because let's be honest. They came about twenty four hours. We think you know. Close to having the actually placed the franchise tag and maybe carried out with that prescott. So the cowboys have room for the franchise tag at the very least so you look at that quake matt that adam schefter was kind enough to do for you. That is fifteen point. Five million dollars that the dallas cowboys suddenly have because they've got this long term deal with that prescott. This is something that we've been saying for two years now. If you do this you can. You can kick this down the road. You can prorate it you can extended you can whatever term you want to put on it. You can spread the impact of the deal out of the signing bonus of the overall guaranteed money out over the lives of the contract so it doesn't hit you all at once. That's the one killer about the franchise tag is that it is fully and completely guaranteed in franchise tag is a one year deal so the value of it last year and dak prescott was on the tag for thirty one point. Four million dollars. The two thousand twenty dallas cowboys had to absorb that value all at once and they would have had to have done it again. Here in two thousand and twenty one but because they have adjusted that they now have fifteen and a half million dollars that they were seemingly budgeting for dak prescott that now they can apply to different areas. Maybe it is a safety. Maybe it's a defensive end. Maybe it's a defensive tackle. Maybe it's you know an offensive tackle. But they want swing tackled death whatever the case may be. We know that the cowboys obviously hold the tenth overall. Pick in the draft. They could go a number of different directions there. They wanna cornerback kayla farther patrick's retain do wanna take one of the tackles and rashawn slater as all this is. This is setting up and this is an important thing. I want you to hear me here and watch me here. You cannot waste this money. If dallas cowboys the whole point and getting this done with thac prescott besides obviously establishing having the best player on your team for the foreseeable future the point in doing this is to alleviate the salary cap space now. And i don't like the term when now if you watch us often you know that but you look state of the nfc east. It is by sudha. I mean the philadelphia. Eagles are a disaster. The new york giants doping daniel jones is legitimate. The washington football team has a great team but is void of the most important position of the game and a quarterback. Maybe they'd get somebody this cycle as we all expect quarterbacks to change teams at a higher rate than usual but the case in point is at the dallas cowboys are now. We're going to see this all day on tuesday by the way and we'll talk about it of course but they're going to be overwhelming favorites to win the nfc streit and you think about the conference that they plan is really a contender in the nfc. And i mean that with all due respect to the reigning champion tampa bay buccaneers. But you've got the bucks you've got the green bay packers and then who scares you. May maybe the rams you believe in matthew stafford but the point is thinking about the afc. I mean the. Afc has the bills and the ravens and the chiefs and the titans and the steelers and the browns. I mean you could go. A number of different ways. Did the colts have carson. Wentz ends up getting his act together and so the cowboys play in the weakest division in the weaker conference and so now they have this opportunity to really kind of take their future in the here and now they have fifteen and a half million dollars that they weren't necessarily planning on having use it and if they don't use it it is all for not so i mean we are all imploring the dallas cowboys to ultimately use this salary cap space. This is a very very very luxurious gift. That they now have been afforded that they didn't previously have so shattered of course to the dallas cowboys. Let's see here let's move. I'm i wanna talk of course about the bonus the dak prescott because well. It's stupid large. I mean it's amazing. Dak prescott has now the largest signing bonus in the nfl. You look at joe flacco. Once upon a time. Got forty million. Dollars matt ryan forty six and a half. Remember if you're on the fence about this value. We've talked about this before as well. Matt ryan became the first quarterback in nfl history to average over. He had thirty but to average at least thirty million dollars per year with his new contract that he signed with the atlanta falcons in two thousand and eighteen. That was three years ago. Dak prescott signed a four six year. Deal whatever you wanna call it. That was three years ago. They matt ryan signed that he was the first quarterback to hit the thirty million dollars a year. Mark prescott just hit forty but the reality and we've been saying this forever is that there are so many deals coming around the bend. Josh allens gotta get paid. Lamar jackson's gotta get paid. Baker mayfield's got to get paid extra calories. He's going to get paid the year after that. It's going to be time for joe burrow to finally get paid and when all of those players get paid this forty million dollars a year. Mark the dak prescott got this one hundred twenty six million dollar. Total guaranteed is sixty six million dollar signing bonus all these things that are currently the top of the nfl. The most in nfl history. That's the verbiage in determining that you're hearing associated with this and it's all literally true but it's all going to get pushed down because all of these players on this list. Joe flacco matt ryan matthew stafford at fifty million signing bonus. Aaron rodgers fifty. Seven and a half russell wilson not going to be a dallas cowboy now by the way sixty five million dollars. Dak prescott topped that all of these quarterbacks in all likelihood we'll top that that's the reality of the nfl things are always moving in one direction. It is up
Jalen Hurts speaks on the Carson Wentz trade for the 1st time
"Jalen. Hey how you doing. Hey how are you doing. I can't complain of what is jalen hurts. Doing in his downtime here getting ready for two thousand and twenty one season jalen. There's thorough just grinding down in Spending some time with family and friends But you know. Prepare myself for for the upcoming season and working with the same trainer that train. Patrick mahomes bobby stroup right. Yes sir yes sir. I'm a lot of good work out with him. Not a lot of you know. The guy has a lot of knowledge and i. i just wanted to be a part of it. You know. I trust them So working liquids debut as well. So i'm excited than a lot of good work in a lot of productive working. You've worked with. Quincy every the quarterback coach in the past right. But bobby is new edition correct. Well i've I was with bobby a little bit. Maybe for like a few days Relationship with him. You'll need to take down but technically guy you know. They're from toddler. East texas i'm from houston texas but i felt like it was the right time to go with them. So yeah what's your life for a texas guy to live and work in philadelphia. It's a bit different. You know run-up. I'm used to obviously the weather being different Humidity being crazy and the weather's just been unpredictable. Weren't silly you know you kinda can engage it off of what time of the year it is with. What's going gonna get everything a little bit closer closer. North bennett is down. South texas louisiana alabama mississippi area but It's fun it's fun. it's been phillies. Did i remember hearing this year. Jalen that you played in the snow for the first time is that accurate Going going into the green bay. Where my i now. I mean we're playing and you know they told me in there and you know we're having fun and playing bob dole. Whatever you know we got some momentum going on the sideline and then I see. I see like you know it's cold. And obviously it was coco. And i see snow coming from this guy. You know little flurries. But i call this a no not you know it was. It was not me at the moment was real cold. Some somebody never done before. And what was your reaction inexperienced playing in it like out. You know they have so much stuff down there to keep you on. The bench is being more Different things that they can do to accommodate for the weather. How cold it is so. I really couldn't tell. That's why i was so surprised. Then feel that cold. But when i saw the snow coming down it is cold. So the fundus upon store. How will you remember your first season with the eagles jalen. I think i remember that a remembered as a true learning experience. Like anything and everything goes it up Kind of going through and deal with i think Grateful for an opportunity of a binge after to the eagles in an awesome being in the position and then now but nonetheless a lot a lot to learn from for me you know. I'm very not very critical of myself and i hope my myself to the highest of high standards when it comes to Doing things the way you know. I wanna dog it. So not that i can learn from from that first year About a good a lot of bad. I'm assigned to improve and Learn from los angles and hopefully Especially thanking to so when you look back and try to learn from those things what do you hope to improve on your second season in the nfl. You know what they are going to realize and you hear it all the time and how important consistency is today consistent and everything that i do you know. And then there's there's always room for improvement in every in every asset every part of the game whether that's You know on the field stuff off the field stuff. You know how you league lead different people differently. You know everybody communique different and the leader of the football team as a quarterback so Just doing every being consistent in everything that i do Res progressives completed leading Communicate relationships all of those
Eagles trade Carson Wentz to Indianapolis Colts
"You. What are your thoughts here on. The carson wentz listening to come and key overpaid underpaid. Who won the tree. There's just so many opinions out there. What's yours i mean my opinion is for carson wentz. This is best case scenario. I mean this time was up in philly. The the philadelphia fans didn't want him and he didn't want the philadelphia eagles anymore so he gets to move on to a place where he wants to go and he never made it public that he wanted to be an indianapolis colts. But this is the best place for him. Is frank reich. A guy that believes in them. You have a very good defense a good run game. Excellent offensive line some young weapons on the outside. But to me this is put up or shut up for carson. Wentz and frank right reich. You're staking your your career on this guy being what he was in two thousand and seventeen when you haven't had him and now if you're carson wentz you're in a perfect situation for yourself to resubmit yourself as one of the top tier quarterbacks in this league and if you don't do it i believe this is his last opportunity as a no brainer starter for any organization ryan. What's your reaction to the eagles having the six pick and potentially targeting a quarterback at the six spot. You know what i think. The eagles would be stupid to be messed up at quarterback again. Right you look at it last year carson. Wentz didn't play well. You drafted a guy in the second round so there were rumblings that people wanted to see him play and then he plays any outplays carson wentz and now you find yourself in this issue. Do you really want the do that. Couldn't read his press statement in his opening. Press conference to start to season the season with a quarterback controversy. And here's the other problem. Let's say. Trevor lawrence and anzac wilson go one two or go one three. And if you're picking where the philadelphia eagles are if you're not in love with the quarterback don't waste your pick. Don't put yourself in another bad position. And listen to you. Look at trae lance you look at justin feels and i know people are going to kind of compare these guys based on color but that's not it. I'm just talking about style of play. We're talking about two quarterbacks that extend plays the same way. that jalen hurts us. Two quarterbacks that can make all the throws but may read things a step through slow if you listen to some of the skull which. I don't believe about justin fields. Which are going to have quarterbacks. That are very similar at at very similar ages competing. And i don't necessarily know if that's the right thing for an organization starting over with the new coach when you have a guy that had some success in jalen hurts. Evaluate him seeing. If he's your quarterback of the future anythi is you don't waste at picking us to get better somewhere else.

"Than you really. Are we see that all the time in the nfl and what happened in philly was the people around him slowly started to lose the support with the ability to play well in india. That's not going to be the case in india. He's got a coach that goes. I know exactly what you do. Well i knew exactly what you don't like i know how to coach you. I know how to connect with you. Don't don't forget for one second or think for one second that the connection between the coach and the quarterback isn't a huge dealer if they get carson wentz twenty eighteen in two thousand nine hundred nineteen. This is a home. Run deal for the coats so dan i feel like so much of this is about mindset and we've talked a tongue about this and the rea- so if he's watching now if you were to have a chance to talk to him at some point before he shows up there what would you tell me needs to be thinking about after everything that has happened. He needs a blank slate and a fresh start. What does he need to be thinking about. Why was being yourself not good enough in philly as a leader. Why was being yourself not good enough. Because you can't just go into a new locker room and think i'm just gonna be me 'cause maybe you wasn't good enough in that role. So if i was his coach going into india. I'd sit down and go all right. What happened last year. And tell me what you learn from that when it came to owning our locker room running our football team being one of eleven but being the guy like voice said this about peyton manning and matthew stafford those guys knew that they were the guy but they had this great to be one of agai and one of fifty three. So what do we learn from last year and let's figure out the bad that had happened in your role in it. Never washing it clean. It is it is part of our past. And then i'm gonna sit down and watch twenty-seven two thousand seventeen two thousand eighteen and twenty nineteen and this is the guy we traded for. This is the player that we traded. And i need you to understand that. That's the guy that i believe.
Philadelphia Eagles trade QB Carson Wentz to Indianapolis Colts for two draft picks
"Story of the day. The Eagles have traded quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts and oh my goodness. It made me very happy. I was so excited. There's a lot to unpack. I want to start though by mentioning a weird thing first. In the 2016 NFL draft the number and overall pick was Jared Goff. The number two overall pick was Carson Wentz. And both have been traded away from the teams. They were drafted by 19 days apart. Just a weird quick doesn't happen very often the guy a number and overall pick a number 2 overall pick gets traded away. Especially not the quarterback position. Let alone almost in just over two weeks apart from each other. That's crazy. Pretty wild now after the trade the Eagles have a 33.8 Million Dead money. Salary cap charge for the 2021 NFL season what that means I will get into that in a minute. First of all, that's actually by the way the most ever to have dead money cap. I guess charge or penalties by an NFL team. It's so much that I actually thought that might keep the Eagles from trading cars and stuff like that might be so much of a penalty. They're not even getting rid of the guy sounds like they did. I thought it's good for everybody Carson Wentz wanted out they I think we're you know, we'll talk about Jalen hurts in a minute, but I thought it was good to get Carson out of there. It is also kind of weird and interesting I talked about Jared Goff previously very briefly the other the the record for the most amount of dead money against the salary cap was Jared Goff. The Rams amount is 22.2 million dollars off. Beat 19 days later by the Carson Wentz trade what is dead money? You may ask it's basically all the guaranteed money the Eagles still owe Carson Wentz after the trade. So even though Carson is no longer on their team. He still creates a thirty three point eight million dollar cap hit for next year. So over thirty-three million dollars off of the salary cap has taken up for Philadelphia. They cannot use that money for other players. It's weird. It's interesting. It's never that's again the most ever pretty interesting. I was surprised that you know, they still trade off a given that but in the trade the Colts got Carson Wentz so the cold they get their quarterback that the replacement Philip Rivers the replacement for Andrew Luck. I'm happy for the Colts man. They've they've Way to make it work. They lost in Turlock. They had to scramble the Mage Jacoby Brissett work for a year. They made Philip Rivers work for a year. Now. They've got what they believe is their franchise guide Carson Wentz good for them. The Eagles got a 2001 third-round pick for the upcoming NFL draft and a conditional 2022 second-round pick and here's what's really cool. The condition. Is that if Carson Wentz plays 75% off Kohls offensive snaps for next year if it stays healthy place the whole year or you know, it's good enough to be the starter all years and get benched. Then that draft pick goes from a second round pick in 2022 to a first-round picks. Oh, wow. I like about that. People are saying the Eagles got a horrible trade. They got fleeced. It's terrible. Oh my goodness. You gotta realize this is probably the best trade they could possibly find the Eagles traded away Carson Wentz a guy who has an injury history has been injured repeatedly over the years. He's coming off of a horrible season where he was so bad the dude got benched for Jalen hurts a rookie quarterback Club. So the fact that Philadelphia made a trade where they have an opportunity to get a first-round pick that's impressive to me. I think people realize that's the best they were going to get so anybody criticizing Philadelphia you did not realize how I think how little value Carson Wentz really had on the market people like nobody really wants him. I think JJ Watts getting a ton of attention Carson Wentz people are very wary. And I think it's really what's really disappointed me. Is that the Bears didn't get him. What did the Bears did the Bears not want him? I don't understand. Maybe they're trying to John Watson feel like the Bears really lost here. They still got home key who Carson Wentz has problems I think is way better than Mitchell trubisky. So debate that all you want. I don't know how you go. Like. Oh the Bears they got a great quarterback still trubisky. I like it. I think another thing people got realize is that I love the trade for Carson Wentz. He's going to a way better team he gets to play for his former offensive coordinator Frank back in 2017 the best year Carson Wentz ever had in the NFL. He was a before he got hurt. He was an MVP candidate playing under Frank Reich. He's reuniting with that guy that's going to be awesome to got a great relationship and EM the Colts have a great offensive line. They've got to get running game. They've got a great defense Carson Wentz is being put into a great situation. If he does not do well then there's no excuse. You can make he's got great great team around him good support good people. He's getting helped.

Wentz out of Philadelphia Eagles
"A very interesting. Nfl deal in at the philadelphia eagles have moved on from carson wentz. He's been traded to the colts massive contract as well. That's part of this deal. Is well taken that on when it goes to the colts for at twenty twenty one. Third rounder and twenty two conditional second round pick as i mentioned whence and jared goff the rams quarterback they were one and two in the draft and everybody thought they were all that the next big thing they had some success whence one super bowl now using kind of injury mode because nick foles won the won the super bowl for the eagles. The actual game but wentz was great. All that season and jared goff also went to a super bowl taken on new england and losing in the final so these guys had some success but man did they fall out of favor in a big old hurry both philly and l. a.
Philadelphia Eagles agree to trade QB Carson Wentz to Indianapolis Colts
"So carson wentz traded to the colts again. We knew the colts were looking for a vet. We knew that the eagles were looking to move carson wentz. Whether you know you think that's wednesdays fall and the eagles thinking he's just not good whether you think has jalen hurts and the fact that they feel like he's promising young rookie who who pushed the vet out or whether you feel like. They're going to draft another rookie early. You know it doesn't really matter what matters is that will and we'll discuss that. Like i said another episode but what does matter this episode is carson wentz and the colts less. What will happen i. The eagles traded wentz for a twenty twenty one third round pick and a conditional twenty twenty two second rounder. Which if he plays seventy five percent of the snaps and twenty twenty one or seventy percent and the clothes made the playoffs then it becomes a first round selection in two thousand twenty two. I mean that's really not a lot. Not a lot honestly is really not. I mean if he is the franchise quarterback that the colts expect him to be since they made this trade even if it turns into a first round pick a third round pick. It's really not a lot. It's a lot free. Starting franchise quarterback. I mean. We just seen what staffer forgot. We hear what the texts wofford shawn. Watson it's this is really a lot no matter how you look at it however so from an ego standpoint like i said i don't wanna talk too much about the eagles on this episode but for an eagle standpoint. I don't feel like they got a lot But maybe this was the most they can get. They wanted to get rid of his salary. They wanted to move on so they do understandable understand. That's what you wanna do. You wanna do what you wanna do. Go for but i'm not a fan of giving them up for that for that for that price tag out at least a guarantee i. I can't be doing this whole conditional. I need a guarantee i number one number two round pick makomo give us some second round picks for picks to i get a player involved in their something so yeah from the eagles now point if i'm an eagles fan i'm a little annoyed. I'm pissed off. It'd be honest. He traded a quarterback who some of you believe instill and you didn't get a whole back and we know how hard it is to find. Quarterbacks like real quarterbacks legit quarterbacks so not happy from the from the standpoint of that but for the colts that is a win if wentz is who they think he is. That's a win. That's straight up win as all there is to it. So great job by the colts just for the price tag that it took to get him whence so far in his career. It's been pretty up and down right. I mean he's dealt with injuries. He's dealt with a bad team up. You know at times. That wasn't the greatest they didn't have the best of performances overall you know but carson wentz. I mean if you if you if you look at his career. He's been in the league for five years. I guess last year though some injuries doesn't eighteen he injuries and seventeen. I believe he has some injuries. So he's he's only had two full years. I believe he played every game but Regardless i mean he's had a really good seasons and then he's asked like not so great like last year was pretty bad. You know minus effectively play twelve games. Names a did play. It was bad it was his worst season.
Eagles trade Wentz to Colts for 2 picks
"This morning, Adam Schefter tweeted. Philadelphia has agreed to trade Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2021 3rd round pick and a conditional 2022 2nd round pick that could turn into a first league sources tell at Mort Report and me and a tweet. There you have it. Carson Wentz is going to the courts. He's going to reunite with Frank Reich, and he's got a chance to turn his career around.
"carson wentz" Discussed on The Bill Barnwell Show
"Do you feel like the eagles it the right thing. Here i mean. Do you think they should have been held onto. Winston just tried to make the situation worker or i mean i what would have been the ideal scenario for the eagles coming out of the situation. I think this is the ideal situation. I mean they they. It does suck to have to pay that much dead cap money but at the same time when did not have a lot of trade value. With how season he he had and at the end of the day april to potentially get a first round draft pick and they're able to move on from winston even though they do have to take that hit this year but it doesn't seem like they're going to be very competitive team this year anyways so this is going to be re- rebuilding year for them So i i you know. I think they were hoping to get a little bit more for wednesday but they got what they could and Now they're going to start a new chapter so. I think the eagles definitely did the right thing here. Yeah i agree. I mean i it would have been nice to get the matthew stafford offer. I think there was a point in remedied. Thought they could pressure some teams into making that happen. Didn't seem to be the case Were you surprised. There wasn't more interest in went around the league. Teams like the patriots. Texans the bears may be most notably alternate. Make a move for wentz even though you think they could have matched us offer. Many of them could fit went onto their caps. I've been were. You surprised that the ad there was nobody else willing to match us offer or if you think this is about as high as anybody was going to go. I'm a little surprised. I thought i thought that there would be a team. That would just give them a straight for draft. Pick for wentz just. Because i think there's a lot of coaches. I think you know could fix once. We we've seen that ability. He has had the physical ability to play in a very high level. He can get away from pressure kind of fits the mold of the modern quarterback so We think we can fix them. And we'll trade a first round draft. Pick for him i. I didn't think they were gonna get a lot more than that A little surprised that they didn't Nobody offered a straight a first round draft picks especially with how quarterback needy. This league is the beer. Would maybe offer a first round pick Some a little surprising but at the same time. It's not far off than what i thought he was worth. Yeah i mean. I i kinda figured the bear should be that team just because you figure their are so desperate and really need a first-round really a quarterback situation to get resolved to kind of keep those guys in their jobs. I with matt nagy and ryan pace into twenty twenty one so i kind of thought they would be the team that would just offer the first round picking that deal done but according to reports they they did not even end up making a single offer for carson wentz so Maybe maybe a bad thing. I think we'll see in a year but when it comes to the eagles side of this now left with jalen hurts and they have the sixth overall pick in the twenty twenty draft. So let me start this i What were your thoughts watching. Jalen hurts this. She know it was a small sample only a few games at the end of the year and dealing with of course the same issues you mentioned earlier with the offensive line injuries But overall i mean. Do you have a strong opinion about jalen. Hurts after what you've seen from him So far in college now briefly. A pro with the eagles. Yeah i i was not high on. Jalen wins at all As a quarterback prospect. I thought he was Third fourth rounder So i thought the eagles reach for him. The second round But he played a lot better than i thought he was. I mean they're still Some concerning traits If you're looking at him as a as long term quarterback And i think one thing that surprised me I did not think that he would be this. Good of a a runner in the league. I mean he you know he obviously ran for yards in oklahoma But i i thought that his athleticism wouldn't translate as well as it has an nfl and was really a dangerous threat. On some of those run option plays and he a lot more anticipation Than he did in oklahoma which was which i thought was a major problem. He just would not The ball on time or early. He would wait till guys got open. And that's not a skill that you'd see or get better. nfl So quickly so. I think there were some encouraging signs For jalen hurts but at the same time. I don't think he blew everybody away enough for the eagles this to be content with calling him the quarterback of the future. I think if they have a chance to operate and they might have one of those And this is a really good quarterback class so they might have one of those top guys lapped in the draft. I think you have to take take one. If if they have opportunity. He beat me to my next question. That was exactly what i was gonna give us now Leedle sitting there at the six. Pack You know. I mean do you feel like they are in a position where even though jalen hurts did look better than carson wentz. I thought for for most of his run with the eagles last year. Like like if you still have a guy who love if you see a guy who can be a franchise quarterback at six d take or do you give jalen hurts that ear as the starter and then kind of reevaluate in twenty twenty one.
"carson wentz" Discussed on The NFL Show
"Colts you you think the cult six months seriously like do you think how much better see the rivers. I don't know that he's better than rivers. Serve mealy philip rivers last year. Yes going forward. Because of their age. Of course philip rivers was done but the level of quarterback play that philip rivers. Give the colts. Last season was not bad. The level of quarterback play that carson wentz gave the eagles last year was terrible. But i just. I can already see myself buying into this narrative like it's twenty twenty one. You know what. I'm really going enjoy in the summer of two thousand twenty one people being twenty twenty was bad for me. But i'm ready to rebound. I will eat up every narrative every athlete who had a bizarre inexplicable mental breakdown. And then it's like yeah. I feel way better now than last year. I've never been so prepared to buy all of it not to mention that the lost in this is didn't the eagles have the most offensive line combinations like fourteen and sixteen games or something. Meanwhile the colts have one of the best offensive lines in football. Whether it's gonna happen. I have no idea i will talk myself into it in about two hours because i just. I don't think the colts make this straight on this frank reich. The coach. the colts goes to chris. Ballard the of the and says. I know how to fix this guy. they're idiots. They don't know what happened over there. We can fix them and then he's like oh snap i. It's such an easy one to buy into in my opinion that i think it's gonna work to be honest with you. I agree with you in parts. I will explain the part. That i don't agree with in that after but the part that i think you're spot on about is that they have to believe that he can get better to have wanted to do this right. No one. there is not a team in the nfl that wants twenty twenty carson. Wentz playing for them. Can you think it's gonna get worse. Well let's make the trade. Let's do it. We need a quarterback second to last. We want him to drop below and askins innovative. Frank knows carson wentz really. Well i would trust him to have a list of things that they can do to improve his play like we talked about. I think it is. Not a schematic issue. As much as it is an emotional issue. A confidence issue his so those fifty sacks forty of them were on extended dropbacks according to actions out so that's four plus seconds that lead to those yes. India has a much better offense. How many fifty forty forty forty of the fifty law which is insane will maybe. That's what happens when greg ward who is like former af receiver becomes like one of the more reliable players right and these.

"All about away. Bought away by the way. The miami dolphins got their guy. I just meant they got us. That dude is they got a guy young guy so let's put some. what are we talking about. Let's put the question. Then this way. And by the way i would say this right now to are coordinating producer. Pete mcconville and our producer. Allie grenade. i don't understand how we do not yet have a feature called jeff saturday. Who's high this week. I mean every week jeff. Hester name that's got to become a tuesday stable. Is this week. We make a segment out of everything on this show but markets very quickly. If the dolphins get forgetting about guam if the dolphins get to shawn watson are they the biggest threat to kansas city in the afc next year. Yeah they are. And i know i say that because i saw were buffalo did. But i'm taking the sean before. I take josh allen and their defense. I'm taking miami. Defense with the sean. Look the inspire football. You play when you have a guy at that position that you know you can't win wit. It takes it to a different level. I love how floor is coaching. But i do think that sometimes going in and out with fits magic and into mayor. Put this team in kabul unknown territory. About what their identity was offensively and the defense never had a question. About what their identity. Would you bring this on. You answer that question. That's our quarterback. Raise the level of play of everybody around you. Oh and yeah let me tell you why. Because he threw for the most yards went out of number one receive on team this year. That's how good he is. Listen this is a no brainer. I would love to see desha watson and josh allen go toe-to-toe for years to come in that division and see who can make it out and then get the kansas city potentially in the afc championship bottom line in miami. They've been trying to find the next dan marino for twenty years. They thought maybe you're still may have him into a tunga vilo but shawn watson is as much more. A known commodity will see if that plays out. Meanwhile quarterback rumors are everywhere including these that the eagles wanna move carson wentz. We know that. What kind of market are they. Finding darlington has the very latest. It could be very interesting. Plus lebron james having another mvp caliber season. You'll hear why jay williams thinks he should win the academy award as well. That's on the way this is get up on. Espn do you own. Read your home share. You and i bet it can be hard work. You know it's easy bundling policies with geico geico makes it easy to bundle your homeowner's or renter's insurance along with your auto policy. It's a good thing too because you already have so much to do around your home. Go to geico dot com. Get a quote and see how much you could save. Its gyco easy visit. Geico dot com. Today that's geico dot com on. We go get up. And another of the quarterback trade sagas continues this one involving that main carson wentz whom league sources believe is on the way out of philadelphia and the eagles may also explore options with his longtime tight. Ends zach ertz. Perhaps philly could include ertz in a wentz package to maximize trade value. Words has one year and eight point. Two five million dollars left on his contract it look. There's a whole lot of speculation in jeff darlington insider here. I'll start with you as to why no deal has been worked out with wentz yet and one of the ways that i look at it from afar is maybe eagles. Just overestimate what it is. People might be willing to give up for wentz at this point when you consider the contract that he has. It's essentially the same circumstance as jared goff in los angeles and the rams had to pay a team to take him off their hands. So is that how similar or those situations and could that be. What's holding this thing up. Well very possible. Greedy speaking with a source with the eagles who certainly understand everything. That's going on with this deal. And you know the one thing that he said. I said what's the holdup here in his answers february sixteenth. Today lear doesn't even start for another month by a bunch of exclamation points and there is something certainly to that. March nineteenth is the date that they'd have to decide on paying him. That ten million dollar rostov on this. This is the runway that they're working with now. Of course you do want to make sure that you make the most of your leverage multiple teams involved. You don't wanna lose one of those teams and then Maybe cost yourself some compensation from that other team but we can point out here that This this source also told me that there is no no trade clause in carson wentz deal so it doesn't really matter say he wants to go to the colts but they're getting more compensation from the bears. They could just send him to the bears. It wouldn't be a problem

"How carson wentz handle being benched not. Okay would it. At all. And i'm not to hold myself back from really just telling you how deeply i feel about carson. Wentz is doing right now because it's offensive. Almost it's offensive. Okay oh now you can't talk to the media carson wentz saying fire debt warm due to the tune of one hundred twenty eight million dollars extension. You talking to the media you being a leader for this team you being a captain for his team you playing well to your and the candidacy and all the times where you resurrected the eagles and the latter part of the season you could talk to the media but that same fire that warmed you and gave you all that love is now the same fire that wants to burn you and you can't stand the heat. I can't stand a fluffy person like that. Only wanna talk half the time. When is good for the other half and you wanna run away. Feels like you using the media. Net state in that context these character revealing moments. And what's sad is. I'm starting to see the character. Of course in wince as having an front runner mentality that safe space. He likes to stay in but when someone approaches him when a versity is front him. And it's right there. Oh where's carson wentz going to go silent and that sad. Because i hear a lot of resentment from the collar nerve normal people in this world who didn't play pro sports and this be real about it also. Let's be real about it but we didn't get all that money to play a child's game. We get all that money to do the things we don't want to do swear and this is something you don't want to do.

"Say they'll be a coward on a fifty percent are wait wait this should. He be back can't do that without on a say yes. I don't feel awesome about that. And part of that just because of the difficult nature of the contract. And i say we'll be back i'm gonna say fifty percent okay about you all right so Halley have she got asked this question in a chat recently. And i think i had it at the time as howie fifty five percent back doug i i think it's very likely he's gone and i did them. I think i probably had somewhere around like twenty percent and then carson ninety nine. I had at the time so like that has since changed. I will say so. I think that i think how he's gone. I think he's figured they. I'll go forty percent chance he's back. I think i think he's gone. While i mean there's no there's no argument for friends. Let me there's really no argument for it to stay. So part of that is that. I think jeffrey loria smart enough to see that no matter what his relationship is with howie but then also just People that i've spoken with that. I trust their opinion and tell me like any kind of like concrete information like porting to him being gone but a lot of people that are that i think are smart Have applied anyway. They think he's gonna be gone to so i think he's going to be gone and doug. I'm almost sure it's going to be gone. I put his chances of coming back at like fifteen percent. Yeah and honestly. I probably went high. Yeah probably two percent right now and then carson. There's a chance they could trade him. Obviously they're not gonna caught him to cap. Its way too big and they wouldn't In any way there's no sense in doing that. but trading him trade him get like a cap hit of Like thirty three thirty four million bucks which would warf the biggest Dead money hit in. Nfl history. the highest. One is brandin cooks. Which i think off the top of my head. I think it was twenty one. Twenty two million bucks or something like that So bad really have to get something good in return for him to to Justify making that. Move and i just don't know that that author ob there. It's possible. but i think there are so many roadblocks to getting a deal like that done that. I just don't think it's very realistic. So i'll stay very confident that carson wentz will be back. I wouldn't put it as high as ninety nine anymore. Necessarily but i would say he's probably in the range of like ninety two ninety five so we'll split the difference there. I'll call it out ninety two and half. So i think the thing with wentz it'll be interesting. I think the idea know the point of hiring. A new coach obviously is in part like ken. They fix carson wentz I guess that's probably why they would keep him as their income under the thinking we can just get a new coach here and they'll eventually able to fix him and i think that thinking is dangerous to me because when you ask the question is carson wentz salvageable. I don't think the answer is yes. If he's not willing to be salvaged and i think going back to what i got some of the things i said in the emergency podcasts with select like carson which is not the most quotable player and i think that's a really big issue. I think there's a lot of evidence year. He hasn't taken the coaching in. When you go back to the you know the philly voice report that was on your website to me by We had on the podcast here earlier. This season like a lot of those things. If you go read them today like seemed to still ring true in terms of you know like carson hasn't really changed a lot the he wants to run things a certain way. He is a lot of influence over. This offense is not like he is going out there in running. Whatever plays doug telling him to. I really do not buy that. He has a lot of influence over this. How this is all going. So i'm maybe a new coach can come in here and because of that dynamic Like they have more authority and can kind of get the best out of carson wentz. I think that's obviously what would be best for this team. But i think it's just very. I think it's naive to think that you bring a new head coach in that magically fixes everything in that doug was the entire issue with carson wins and i that's where i'm met with that maybe he can have like a howie roseman like rejuvenation raking travel a world. See what other quarterbacks are doing kind of picked little pieces here and there and come back and like the world on fire get a little high himself backslide again. But i don't know. I'm just kidding so i think he's still salvageable like just looking at what he has in terms of ability. I mean just go put like our choubey draft carson wentz hats back on from way back in the day like he's big. He's got like everything you want physically from quarterback. He's six five to forty. He's got some mobility. Maybe that's tapered off a little bit over the last five years but he does have some some ability to run the ball He's got a strong arm. He's smart even if it doesn't always show on the field I think there are plenty of times early in his career. Words people were sort of wowed by his work ethic offer field. Where you know. I remember the story where like he called. Went into an office and he goes if we get this. Look i'm gonna hit you on the corner of the end zone. And they got that look in the red zone ahead the corner of the end zone as he said so there. There are a lot of examples like that where You know he he's he. He can diagnosed defenses in such again. The schemes been broken shared. We haven't see overcome that But i do think that there is reason to believe that he can still have success in the nfl. It's just a matter of how long the await for him to to sort of get that back. Also i think the question of to what level is getting. Because i don't think we're ever seen two thousand seventeen again i just don't i'll be there for sure. Yeah and i think some people still think. That's in there though. But i don't it's not. I don't think it is a different player. In terms of like you said his athleticism and everything now and in the injuries have taken a toll then even mentally. I don't know where he's at the big question that seems to be lingering. You know like like lingering behind the scenes or where like. It's the concussion from cloudy. Like how much did that impact him. It's so hard to know we've asked him we've asked. The question has been asked that we don't know for sure how much that's actually impacting him in his mental capabilities to so So yeah so. Even if carson wentz i think i think there's zero question carson winston play better than he has this year because that's pretty hard to do to very low bar for sure but but how high does that bar yet you know is he like top twenty you know like is where does he max out i guess is what i think and and you know how much is it worth bringing i mean. Obviously it's worth a lot if you can salvage him but like you know where where are you. If you can't and. I guess you know that's a decision. That's something you can figure out down the road once you see if the new coach who comes near can actually do that but i guess my point is i just. I would be reluctant to assume that automatically. The new coach comes in and he faces a winston..

"Bg in fifteen per fifteen percent off. So go do that but jimmy. The people are dying to hear your take on the situation. What's your first Flooring one And that's probably why. I haven't heard much about it. I probably will have something on friday warning. Just really more geared toward the future of carson wentz going forward as opposed to you know the implications of this particular season. Which who cares like the season's over you've mentioned at the team was boring and now we have a little bit. You know at least have something to talk about now. That first half of that game against green bay one of the most boring eagles games i've i've ever seen at first half alone. And then the second half they made the move in at least it was somewhat interesting to watch but as far as like my take on Them naming hurts the starter against the saints Sunday not a surprise of all. I had a pre written that like that. That what they were going to do. i don't normally. I don't do that very often. But when i'm pretty sure that they're going to Make a move. I will have an article ready to go sort of boiler boring post that i wrote but Yeah i was almost certain that they were gonna make that move. Because why wouldn't you. I mean i think the biggest point that has been made the point that has resonated most with me has been a point that you made and that is that the eagles could be picking top five in the twenty twenty one draft. And when you're picking that high personal you don't pick that high that often and it's going to be a strong quarterback draft In two thousand twenty one. So if you're picking that high you're not sure have carson wentz's we're going to get back to where he was You know when he was at his peak or you know even a notch below that. You're not sure what you have in jalen hurts. You don't have all the information To take a quarterback that highly unless you play jalen hurts so like i think you have to at least have an idea of what he is and what you have in him so that when you do pick that highly in the twenty twenty one draft as it appears they're going to you have to illegi. We have more information than you would if you didn't play him so there's that i think the eagles mindset is really more that he can provide a spark and give them something in these games going forward. Which in my opinion again. Who cares like this. Season's over so i don't like it doesn't matter if they win in fact it's hurtful to them if they win games going forward the season was just getting so damn boring as you mentioned and at least now we have a reason to watch. Yeah i mean that's big though it's like finally there's at least. Some kind of level of entry gear in hearts comes last week and it. It just felt. The energy felt different. It really was a spark. Wow they might even win. This game might still this game. You know what the telecast tony romo was like. I'll there's some overlap here the emergency podcast we did. I don't wanna talk expectation for its. You don't care. I feel like there is some excitement in terms of like i mean carson was just so broken here that there's just no hope like you're going into every game knowing that he's not going to be able to really do anything. I think hurts Especially going up against the saints team. That hasn't really faced a lot of mobile passers this year kind of looked at all the quarterback rushing stats from them this year. They've only allowed seventy six yards. Total in quarterback rushing now really faced a lot of mobile passers. I think you could look at like teddy bridgewater and justin herbert most mobile guys. They've they've had the face you know who who aren't necessarily known as the most like mobile so it'll be interesting but i i just going back to hurt this performance against the packers. I saw some good things in there. Obviously the final stats horn. Pretty but i thought like seeing that mobility was nice. Actually being able to avoid some pressure just even even for the sake of like. I know like he kinda runs a little bit too often. Almost like likes to take off by the same time. He's getting positive yards in those plays Is he's not like the sitting back there in the pocket forever just waiting waiting getting sacked. Like he's going to get easier but he's only like five dollars a pop year three yards pop year in at least keep the offense going in the right direction at the very least or kind of like you know not just holding onto the ball in forcing things in creating this like catastrophic turnover like the arsenals kind of doing so Instances that and then parlaying that into Even if the games don't matter jimmy for the rest of the season the question is like ken jalen hurts. Play well enough to save anyone's job in terms of doug or how a i guess that's what i'm also wondering about. I think the point that you made is that he runs a lot. And i think in that in the packers game when he first came in on his first six dropbacks i think he ran five times on those. So he's just looking at like maybe one or two reads and it's not their egos which is fine like that's understandable for a rookie quarterback of course Who has that You know mobile ability in his arkansas. Like i'm not criticizing him or anything like that for for that. We are going to see that a lot. i think. Sunday against new orleans As far as my expectations for it's gonna look different Certainly like he's gonna run a lot. The offense is going to look different. I don't think you're gonna call many different. Plays or anything like that as jason kelsey explained like. You can't just throw out your playbook and have this new set plays that your team hasn't run all year especially when you have a rookie quarterback coming in like that. So it's going to be the same place. Just gonna look different with a quarterback that has a different skill set and personally. I don't think the outcome is going to be any different. Like i don't think you're gonna see much of a difference on the scoreboard or like in the statute in terms of yards or production or whatever But i and. I think it's gonna appear that hurts. Looks a lot better just because it's different and because the expectations for him are lower than they are for wentz they bay But ultimately i think he's going to struggle because a the receivers are still a problem. He offense blind is still a major issue and see most importantly the offensive scheme. It's just it's just broken so it's gonna be a tough ask really for anyone to the you'd have like a star quarterback coming into this eagles system right now and while they play a hell of a lot better. Carson wentz certainly. Has i think if you took like russell. Wilson put them in the scheme. You took aaron rodgers and put him into the scheme. You're not gonna look as good as they do in their own gives up. I'm sure they probably still have some level of success that carson wentz was not able to achieve in this scheme but i think it's really a tough ask for for any quarterback to come in and have success with what the eagles are doing. Offensively right now. I think that'll be interesting to gauge. Though to what extent. You know. Because i think it can look better than it has carson wentz like not to the point where anyone's it'll be mistaking them for the kansas city chiefs or something anytime soon or like the forty niners when they're on top of their game like you know. I don't think it's a at mazing..

"But i think it does give you the best chance long-term if you give carson a break from this and to think about and to prepare to get right like i think they're to me. There seems to be no argument on the other side. While i believe my arguments for jalen hurts are not super strong. They're stronger than no arguments. What is the argument for. Plan carson wentz for playing carson went other than the fact that you guarantee them a lot a lot of money which is not an argument at all like. he's been really bad all year long. There's no reason to believe that he's going to get better. Hope prayer yes. You can pray with them on a bed. He can pray when he's on the bench. He can't pray with all the video so that in the future if the eagles how how how much this the cost matter to you i mean if you have already vested in carson wentz. It's extremely difficult to offer from. After this year you could maybe theoretically trade him but it would be incredibly cost prohibitive and leave you without a quarterback option and basically sink your chances in twenty twenty one probably anyway unless you are some opposition the draft a quarterback at the bottom half of the top ten or the of the top ten so the eagles would be do you just stubbornly maybe not startling they just say hey this is a bad year were throwing it out the window. We're going to make some changes around carson or do you just put on carson and say hey we're gonna run this back we think we have enough talent around you and you have to just be better with a healthier offensive line and if you're not better than twenty twenty two were moving on. What's the other option like you don't cut carts and In trading him doesn't really help your contract situation So you try to improve the team around him and Improve the coaching around him. Maybe i don't think that the answer is cutting him and moving on to who knows what or jalen hurts. Like bharti made this commitment. So i'm not sure how bad of a situation like i feel like you're more well versed than these moves than i am. So and it's called the bill barnwell show. So you are howie roseman. Now what do you do. You pick someone in the nfl. I can finally relate to how what i would do. I would simply go back and not make all those bad signings. I would go back in time. All sean jeffrey gordon good player. I'm not going to sign a massive deal and then restructure it. I would not sign lane johnson to a four year contract extension that starts in twenty twenty five. I would not do those things. I would I don't know. I usually have a choice right like you're stuck with carson exterior. You evaluated him up to this point. As number one franchise quarterback. They traded up to grab him. He was nearly empty. Mvp and seventeen like. That's not even if you're saying that's not what i would expect from carson wentz. That's at least in the range of outcomes. At least that is a possibility the and asked that ceiling which we don't know that for every player. We don't know every player i i don't think would be a good example. Sam darnold you might some team. I try and buy low. And sam darnold center might be a good football player removed from adam gates. But we don't know. He has side in his range of possibilities. Vp caliber season. So i think you have to fundamentally take a step backwards and say okay well we also like carson wentz. Has this really awful season in his range of possibilities. So thank you. I don't know if he fire. Doug peterson remove playcalling duties. Where i think you have to seriously consider making a coaching change. And whether you have the right coach for carson wentz. Because it's a lot easier to fire. Doug peterson and this to fire carson wentz. I think you have to reevaluate a lot of choices at receiver. What carson wentz works with. I think that they have added receiver after receiving golden tate. They drafted balanced..

"Philly eagles and seahawks and birds and other birds only one type heading south carson wentz again trying to prove a starter status again coming up short another interception adding to his league-leading totally was also six. Times is back backup. Jalen hurts saw just to blaze last night. We'll have much more on him in just a second but first eagles get the win. Here's carson winston after last night's loss to seattle. There's been a lot of talk and speculation. You possibly getting benched or something like that. I mean does that way on you at all. Do you think about that at all. And that occurred during the game. Any of that. Come up. i mean. I said that last week you know this is what you sign up for as a quarterback <hes> member. Since you're a kid you know you're prepared for for any of those nothing's ever guaranteed and so for me i. I don't think about that though. I just try and go out and be the best player. I can be in practice. Prepare my tail off. Compete my tail off and <hes>. You know hopefully we can get this thing turned around but <hes>. I think about those things. I might give it everything i got every time i step on the field. I think i said the eagles went. Obviously the seahawks won there and carson wentz with the barrage of questions about his plane time plane status plane brandon start with you did carson wentz play well enough to keep his starting job moving forward. Well i mean i hell. Mary was nice. i mean how. How often do we see that at all. He but outside of that. Mary no he. He didn't play well. The coaches the coach. Well defense didn't play well enough. This is one of those years. Nick where everybody needs to be on notice when you play like this and miss division everyone should be on notice and then you can go back to last couple years outside of their super bowl. Run it's always been a struggle for this organization. If i'm the owner. I am looking at everything. I'm looking at the general managers there's other gaps. There's other holes on this team is not just carson wentz. it's also the linebacking core and it's not that the linebacking core isn't playing. Well they're just not very good they don't have any debt so with that mind like you gotta talk about. Who's making those decisions. And you got to hold them accountable. So this entire organization. Mic should be on notice at listen. I think might garafolo is the one who reported this morning that he can no longer report. That doug peterson is totally save. Despite being just three years removed from actually winning a super bowl something carson wentz is not able to say. He did what that means for our rose. One of the front office will see. And you're right brandon. This is a team that has a multitude of issues but their biggest issue is this in twenty twenty the worst starting quarterback in football now. That's not a statement of opinion. That's just if according to the numbers we can show them. The worst fulltime starting quarterback in the nfl is carson wentz and the spat back that up one hundred percent. He's thirty fifth worse in everything. And there's only thirty two teams folks and he is a turnover machine he runs into sacks he doesn't make the big throws anymore. There's been one game all year long that he didn't turn the ball over and in that game. He fumbled twice. They just happened to recover them so it does feel however wildlife carson wentz might be the one with the most job security because of the contract. He's been signed to based on performance. You have a twenty eight a guy that's going to be twenty eight this month. He's in year five and he's playing the worst football of his career. That is more than a sign for his future. But do you think that's all of his fault nick. Because morning i wake up. And i make a little menu and i called my my kitchen. Where do my work hot take cafe and on today's menu. Here's what we had. You can make your choice. Everyone you can have bad coaching with a side of bad. Play design you can have bad decision. Making with a side of bad throws you could have bad wide receivers and bad protection. Those your options at the take cafe for me. I want went bad protection. I went with the six acts. We're not his fault. The league leading forty six x also. Not his fault he also had some throwaways there and i was watching the game last night neck and i was like oh the one when he was chased out of the pocket to avoid an intentional grounding. He threw it to the first down. Even though it came up short i was like. Oh that's a. That's a good play. That's a quarterback you can build around. I'm like what what is happening. I'm calling a throw to save even intentional grounding a good play and he could say like. I don't put it on the offensive line. Louis riddick mentioned it last night when they went to the super bowl best offensive line surprise surprise. Takeout carson wentz put. Nick foles doesn't matter to me. It starts with the offensive line. I know there's a lot of side dishes but it's an offensive line thing for me.

"Eagles went still hasn't won a playoff game. And he's at the bottom and several options of categories. Can you'll see that part up with asked if he would make the same deal again. I'll take a listen. Yeah i do it all over again. he's the guy we wanted Back then he's still the guy we want today and i love everything about carson wentz. He's a great leader for a team and our city. And and i do it all over again. All over again marcellus. Do you think the eagles are fully behind carson. Wentz fully bihar. They fully behind that cap number. They fully behind this dead cap number but they're not fully behind his performance. Who is how they're paying more and getting left from no and you could tell that this was all. Bs classic over correction you here to sap that came out of his mouth the gloss their glow to yuck. He was too extreme for me to believe that he was telling the truth. About al choke. Your quarterback is thirty first thirty second thirty first and has the most giveaways and major statistical categories. Yeah do it all again. Pay him the most amount at the position in the entire. Nfl and get the third worst production. I'll do it all again. And what was that giving up because people don't remember how they acquire carson wentz but let me break this down this is what they gave up for carson wentz number eight overall choice third.

"Year. But one hundred percent covid-19. The basic fundamentals of football and that's why the Cowboys defense has been so so bad against the Run. Now so the Eagles beat the Cowboys and it wasn't really pretty they're actually losing 9 to 7 and half time. But against Dallas Carson Wentz had four turnovers two fumbles and two And a lot of lessons can be learned from Carson Wentz failures. The biggest lesson in my opinion is basically that Carson Wentz is trying to do way too much. He's trying to be Superman song and the Eagles have been hit by a ton of injuries. You know, I think Carson Wentz is trying to compensate to make up for it. You know, okay, we may not have the guy we need there and there and there but I'm going to put the trash my back and carry us to compensate for all the losses. He's holding onto the ball way too long. He's making risky throws. He's forcing throws into coverage and I often relate playing quarterback to being a race car driver do that all the time. And you know the offense and the system the play-calling I call that the race car and therefore the quarterback is the driver. And the problem is right. Now the Eagles offense is not a sports car. They're more like an old beat-up junker car so you can have a race car driver, but he's driving a horrible car. That's not actually a race cars. And Carson Wentz hates losing his very very competitive and his fear is that if I just do my job and do it. Normally I'm not going to able to help my team enough to win football games. And so Carson's competitive nature is part of the problem right now in Philadelphia, but Carson needs to realize you can't add two and be part of the Eagles problems on offense. Okay, you're missing a guy you're he ran the route. He this he did that seat of that. You can't compound a mistake with your own mistake and add to the problem. So Carson Wentz just needs to execute and do his job. Do your job execute the offense. I would say drive the car down the road your job as a quarterback. You're you're in charge of this really you're driving this incredible nice sports car club drive the car down the road do the little things execute. But the problem is Carson doesn't trust anybody around him and he doesn't trust the system run doesn't trust the play-calling and so of course and whence ever gets benched two things will have happened. Number one..

"So I don't care how much money did you pay somebody? I? Don't that if I think if Russell Wilson was in the exact same situation and he's the quarterback for the Eagles and he has to deal with injury after injury. and New guy after new guy please don't tell me that you don't think that Russell Wilson might make a couple of bad decisions. No this is what I'm getting. This is what I'm saying that's a big time eagles fan too. I'm giving you the fact that look the eagles are in a horrible decision or in a horrible division and that Carson has made some really bad decisions at quarterback but you can't dismiss the fact of where he is where that. Michael on modern rewind and who they're bringing in. I'm not dismissing although it's a little bit like they have a ton of injuries they have guys. Like yesterday. Like last year I heard about mile senators who miles sanders if you watch the game mile and it's really good actually my lot all these problems on the on the offensive line actually he's really good I'm not denying that. Would feel pressure in Carson Winston position especially, if he has Carson Wentz, his talent to make things happen. What I am saying is if it's a second year quarterback on a rookie deal who hasn't learned his lesson like those, those that hero ball's actually usually killing the team, I would get it. He's a fifth year quarterback on one hundred, million dollar plus deal whose team would be better off if he would just play situational football like that's the difference situational football right now and just proper decision making an execution. That's an interesting Carson wentz in an elite quarterback. The Eagles. Are Paying for quarterback ain't getting it might you're what you're saying is? What you're saying is that if Carson wentz plays smart situational football that the eagles record is bettered into foreign one, are you serious and integrated? Medicine and last year they'd have been better to. That's right. Carson Wentz. How how many ways kill Eagles I may I may pours Carson Wentz give up on the defensive end? Car. To give up on data to actually actually it's funny. You say that when you turn the ball over nine times in your own territory and seven games, you give up a lot of points on the defensive end. Old. "Be in a situation where our backs are against the law. You know we we left a lot of plays out there We're in the red, zone a lot and didn't score many points. So those are the things we gotta clean up and be better but when our backs against the wall and and we gotta make plays I'm guys all the opportunity to make coach a great job. Of calling the calling the game in those situations, we're playing fast putting a lot of pressure on the defense and you know we're obviously doing doing some good things in those situations and we gotta keep building on him. But again, ideally, we don't put ourselves in those situations. But when we need it, you know we've been successful for the most part so far think about the way the media frame stuff to this guy. Like he did something. To foreign one team, they beat one of the worst teams. In the League in the worst division in the history of football. In spite of Carson Wentz as many mistakes that I just outlined. As Carson. How how? Why are you so great no Carson Wentz is tough as nails. He has upper end elite talent. He is a mid pack starting quarterback because he makes bad decision after bad decision. And is. impossibly inconsistent. He's also regressed. He was an MVP caliber player not long ago and he is far from that nowadays. I'd like to welcome in now a die. Hard Eagles Fan. "Terrible set a lot without saying a lot nick I'll start with you what what did you make them? Peterson's honesty they're. Caught him off. I loved that I loved it because Brandon. You he betrays his whole feelings by his reaction. When he thought the Questioner said progress, he's like wait progress. The same. Y- it's not as good as it used to be art I wanNA. Make sure we all agree here he used to be awesome and now he kinda stinks and it bothers me too. So this is the hundred and twenty eight million dollar question for the Philadelphia. Eagles Brennan. What's happened to their quarterback? In two thousand seventeen he was a plus player until he got hurt against the rams in twenty eighteen. His numbers were good but he only played eleven games and there were five and six of those eleven games. So it was like a B. level player last year he played bowl season but didn't play very well, we blamed his receivers he was like a B minus plus player this year he's been a barely passing student at best he has four interceptions. He the team has been outscored sixty four to. Nineteen over their lives in ninety one minutes, a football and a lot of it that interception we just showed brandon was when they had come back in that game, they were down five chance to take the lead not that pick but the one in the end zone and he throws this pick in the end zone like I don't know what's wrong with Carson Wentz but he certainly is regressing is coach nosy. No I love the honesty but I don't think that was smart for him to do that publicly. I think you know he was being transparent I think. A lot of people organization. You know from what I'm hearing they don't really know. Why things are. Shaping out the way they are. But when you really look at it, you know look at Carson Wentz you know is there some things he can change? Yes you know from from a Fan's perspective you can see that he sloppy in the pocket you can see that is basis why at times causing him to throw the ball high. But when you see the big picture and you understand that it's it's not all on him. You know you look at the young poor wide receiver play you look at the veteran play it's inconsistent. There's Bay lack effort at Tom's. De Jack and then also whiteside you can say is worse. Off. INTO LINE NEAR BANGED UP, he has four five guys just banged up or not even in the lineup and another guy edit I are. So as a quarterback, would you want when you drop back or before you even dropped back when you get to line you WanNa, get your team in the right place you want to set the Texas. Okay. I know my backside is covered I, know if this nickel and his willingness frontside comes my running back, we'll pick that up. So I'm good there. So when I drop back. All I'm looking at is that one two, three, four high is a cover eight and where do I go with the ball and this is my wide receivers getting their depth or they were they supposed be. So when you look at all of that I I'm not shocked that Carson is struggling because they can't protect him. So of course, his feet is going to be sloppy in a pocket into he doesn't have good wide receiver play so he's trying to do too much I sit week one. All you gotTa do is hand the ball off settled as young men down, get this running game going so it can help this struggling quarterback struggling unit because he's trying to do too much right now, but it's not just him. This is a unit issue Carson Wentz. issue. So so brandon, you just did a better job than Doug Peterson did on the press conference I totally agree with you that there's no reason for him to say anything but spread out the blame rather than put it all on Carson Wentz like crossing broad because he's been bad crossing broad put a big list of statistics up other review qbr sixty, four, second last six yards per pass only three qb's worse fifty nine percent completion percentage twenty, nine, eight sacks tied for most twenty off target tied for most unique but listen if you're not going to Jalen. Hurts then just say what Brandon's GonNa say are ready to go to Jalen hurts and you can start like. Planting the seeds and. No regrets progress I don't know what's going on I'm just the coach but if you're sticking with Carson Wentz then nick I think there's a responsibility to build the guy up. Go ahead Jenna yeah is this a Jalen? Hurts conversation? Is this these early rumblings of a? Site order that controversy. I'd I don't believe that it's that all they're committed to Carson? wentz. But they know there is a problem and if you're Carson Wentz you yeah, you don't love the Doug Peterson I think he was caught off guard by the question and then had a moment of honesty and then spent the next sixty second trying to clean it up. But that opening ten seconds lives forever but. I'm old enough to remember when the NFC East quarterback debate was, who's the best Dak or Carson Wentz. There is a new debate in twenty twenty and it's between Carson wins and all.

"All that stuff was that about decision. I sure as hell don't believe. So considering the type of player that Carson Wentz has shown he can be and can be in the future. Football is one big gamble after another. It's a gamble off the field when you're constructing your roster. It's a gamble on the field when you're leading them. Hang, and calling fulfilling the Super Bowl me. I'm not going to live in fear of Carson getting injured the same as I wouldn't for any other player, I won't assume anything I don't know. And I'm not going to let it get in the way of enjoying it when Carson plays. Well, and I won't point to it when it's not relative, when he doesn't play well brand Ben you can see things better than area. That's not okay. What are your what are your thoughts on the, the long-term the, the health stuff the gamble stuff like all the stuff being thrown out there right now? Right. So there's several things to talk about here start with the. The things I know the least, well and then moved to things that guy. No, the best. Well, number one, I do not know about Carson Wentz health. I know that in twenty seventeen years playing really well, and then he towards ACL I know that in twenty eight teen he played good football as a quarterback, but he lacked some of his mobility it was very clear to see when you when he was on the move. He wasn't as explosive as he used to be. And also, we know that likely in part due to likely in, in relation to injury in his like the injury in his back was not something that happened one game. And then he was out. It was something that was either happening over time or what happened for a while. And we didn't know about it was present during the end of his playing time in twenty eighteen so he was playing injured for favorite of time. This is the things that, though, that we know well, can can I ask you this real quick, like I'd do the injuries being different types of injuries. I see the ACL and then the, the back being more of a bone thing. I've see the hairline fracture and everybody's making a big deal at in adding. This into the equation like the preseason games. He missed what would have definitely played through anyway. The hairline fracture when he was a rookie added into that taking a look at those two season ending injuries essentially are them being different types of injuries better for you, because I think it's, it's actually kind of a big deal. It's not like a guy who's getting the same type of injury over and over again. It's a freak injury. And then it's a different type of injury. Does that kind of alleviate some of the concerns for you moving forward? Not really. And this goes to the point that you know about what we know what we don't I just don't know things about injuries. You know what I mean? Like I and this is critical. Right. Like anybody who's doing some cost benefit analysis on the risk of signing Carson given his injury history, we need to knowledge, like, I don't know anything about injuries. I don't until I, I have no leg to stand on which will listen I like me personally, we talked to this at the time I think the back is connected to the leg. I think that like because his leg was. There's a lack of stability is a lack of, like, you know, internal geology the cohesion like, you know, the full athlete, like sort of like concepts like the holistic -ness of the body. The I think they're related like, you know, your back is what you use very often to, like, like make up for you know what I mean. Like you use it to, like, Saul imbalance us another places, but the, the moral the store here being, I do not know things about injuries. I know that Carson Wentz has ended his last season's injured in. That's objectively, not good. But there's a rainbow of ways that, that can happen. I don't know where we are on the spectrum, which brings me to point one b point to, which is I do think it matters. And at least is a signal if not something stronger that the eagles extended Carson Wentz pretty much like two weeks after the first one is on him in training camp. I absolutely matters..

"I think all I did a good job of kind of breaking down the running different offense who had Nick foles. And I think that's something that gets talked about in this Philly voice report, how it was a different offense and some players some sources felt like I don't know if they're players, but some sources felt like offense was being run with through Nick foles as opposed to you know, Nichols. Having all this control over it. Like Carson Wentz had wanted to have control over it. Now, one of the things in that report that I thought was kind of unfair was about how it said every time Carson Wentz would have input there'd be an interception or a sack and every time. He just followed. What the coaches do it always worked out? I mean, that's kind of just that's a little pretty unfair to me that to say into suggest that like Carson Wentz was just the the bad guy, and the coaches were fine. And I don't know does that. Kind of give you. Perspective or information on who the sources could be. If it's saying the coaches, we're never to blame. I don't know just kind of thinking out loud here. It's a lot of this podcast is about just giving you some my thoughts on the situation. But obviously we've heard some rebuttal on this Carson Wentz. Scathing report that came out from some of his teammates, we saw Fletcher Cox immediately jump out to his defense. Now, I think it's a little interesting or it's no it's worth noting Frederick is in those offense of meetings. Sees he's a defensive captain. And he's a clearly one of the best players on the team. So I'm not saying is word means nothing here. I'm just saying you have to consider that. But then Bernie Brookes who is on the side of the ball, certainly came out and support, of course, when sodas Zakar it's so did lane Johnson so to Torrey Smith who's no longer on the team, but certainly in the wide receiver room last year sort of Nate Sud Velde who works in the same quarterback room. With Carson Wentz and shoot. Obviously have a good feel for him given the amount of time. They spend together and decent. Kelsey also gave a lengthy statement. Those are all up on bleeding greenish dot com. If you want to read them, so we're seeing players support. Carson Winston, look, it's obviously not like they're going to come out and say, you know, all the report is true in rip him like death never going to happen. So what makes it interesting to me? Then is an might be more telling is who hasn't spoken out and favor of Carson Wentz. And as I am recording this on three oh two pm.

"Anyway. And I'm not saying this report is necessarily being unfair in the sense that I think it is sourced. And I think Joe, you know, he he obviously did talk to these people with information. But I think how we perceive. This information can be taken a little bit out of context. And I think it can. Be extrapolated to to maybe give more weight to it than it actually deserves in the sense of. I don't think because this report comes out means that eagles are doomed at quarterback forever. And I think that's your takeaway. I just think that's a little too harsh. Now, I'm not saying it's not concerning at all. By just think there's always room for somewhere in between the the doomsday scenario and everything is fine. And I think that's kind of where the story lies lies in between. Everything is fine. And this is a real issue. It's somewhere in between those two things now. Something I've talked about a lot and something I think is the crux of this. Carson Wentz story considering seems to be a lot about his attitude and how he is perceived is character all those kind of things. And by the way, the report does say a lot of his teammates. A lot of sources feel like Carson wins is a very hard working intelligent all the kind of adjectives. We've heard about him and things we just know about him to be true based on the work ethic. We've seen those things are true. It's not like, you know, this report is saying that he's just the worst person in lazy. And no, that's not what this report is saying, you know, you have to actually read the report in and understand like for you know, as much as there is going to be Carson Wentz criticism in this report that also does give him credit in some areas and one thing getting that to are saying though about the crux of this being about Carson Wentz, his personality and. The way he's being perceived as that I just don't think Carson wins is necessarily mature as he could. Ideally be in. Now, I've talked about this before I mentioned this. I believe radio thirty one a couple of weeks ago. Maybe even as recently as the recent the last episode we did here where I and this is something I've been thinking about for a while now..

"Up the put up a hard fight against the saints. But ultimately, they fell short, and we all know the restrictions along the way in the two thousand eighteen season. So it's only natural that these kind of things are going to come out. I think that's something you have to consider. I don't think it's like, you know, the eagles are the only dysfunctional team in the NFL if you're framing it that way. It's just not the case also think that arson wins certainly isn't Hilmi quarterback in the NFL who's ever had a story. Like this written about them. I'm sure you can find already mentioned the Tom Brady thing. I'm sure you can find ones for Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers and number of quarterbacks in this league. I think you can always spin certain qualities as positive or negative. You could say Carson Wentz is a control freak he wants to control everything or you could say Carson Wentz. You know, has a strong ideas about what he wants to do and he wants to be involved. So it's all about how you frame things. And how you spin it as well. So I think it's always the point being there. Why I'm saying this is it's important to consider biases in perspective on both sides on all sides into knowledge. Those and to kinda, you know, just so we're we're being fair inaccurate all around so. Another thing. I wanna say coming out of all this is that none of this changes. Carson Wentz is standing in my opinion with the franchise. I mean Doug Peterson said it last week that he is the team's franchise quarterback. Just because report this comes out does not mean all of a sudden the user keeping Nick foles and getting ready Carson Wentz. That is not what's going to happen here. It's just not the if these issues in the story did exist do exist. I'm sure that you have to have some level of awareness about them. And I think they would know that before they would come out and say Carson Wentz is their franchise quarterback. So just wanted to say it, I don't think really anyone is doubting that. But in case, you are it doesn't really change anything in that perspective that arsons is this team funk term enter now. Because that very fact is true. I also think it's important to note that Carson Wentz not some bum. I I don't know why. I mean, I guess I do know why? And it's because. Nick foles has success. And Carson Wentz had some struggles. All the sudden Carson Wentz sucks. But I think people have been way too hard on Carson as a player. Let's leave the off the field stuff aside. Just for a second talking about Carson Wentz the player, and this is something I had talked about in BGN radio episode thirty two John Stolnis that I just feel like Carson went to gain too much hate, you know, you look at how he had a better passer rating then Jared Goff Tom Brady, both those bags are in the Super Bowl this year, by the way, Andrew luck Dak Prescott Aaron Rodgers two thousand eighteen among other players. And I'm not saying passer rating is the perfect stat. I think a big issue with it. In fact, wins is it doesn't account for fumbles which have been an issue for him. But the point is that you can't have a better passer rating than all those guys and be a complete bum. You just not how it works. I know Carson was not perfect in two thousand eighteen and you have to consider by the way, not only did he have. A better pass ratings than all those guys. But he was also doing it with a fracture in his back and coming off two major injuries in his knee with a tornado CEO and a tour Elsie. Oh, so I think it's just important to put all the context and now to be fair to Joe and his story from Philly voice. They knowledge all that. So they included that in there. But I just felt the need to reiterate it because I think people are a little bit two months down on Carson Wentz. And that's part of why the story from the Phillies is frustrating as an eagles fan as a went Carson Wentz supporter because it just feels like it's more ammo for the people who are kind of being a little bit unfair to him..
