Why Did the T. Rex Have Such Tiny Arms?

"With a name that literally means tyrant Lizard King You'd assume that tyrannosaurus rex would get a bit more respect, but the giant predators disproportionately small arms have been the subject of ridicule for decades there are also a scientific puzzle more than one hundred years after discovery of this species, experts still don't know why huge animal one that could reach lengths of forty feet, or twelve meters, or more had four limbs. That were much longer. Longer than an adult humans, if the arms were limp muscle free pegues, it'd be easy to assume that they serve no purpose. However, the evidence hints at a more complicated story, a few studies have argued that judge by the muscle scars left behind on T. rex limb bones, a full grown dinosaur could curl more than two hundred and twenty pounds or one hundred kilograms with each one of their biceps then again. This isn't as impressive as it sounds. Thomas R Holtz of vertebrate paleontologist at the University of Maryland tells us that some people like to overrate Tirana sources upper body strength that figure from before only translates to about one point. Two five percent of the dinosaurs total body weight, which may have been in the ballpark of around eight tons or eight thousand kilograms. Holt says that's like a two hundred pound or ninety kilogram man proud. Proud of the ability to curl two point, five pounds or one kilogram on these grounds, a few experts have concluded that tyrannosaurus arms were either functionless or seldom used, but not all paleontologists by this idea for his money. Kenneth Carpenter of UTAH. State University thinks the little limbs made great hunting tools in two thousand, eight, he and fellow paleontologist Christine. Lipkin impaired the five to source rex wishbones. For years that were known to science at the time shaped like a giant boomerang. Sits between the shoulder blades, three of the five wishbones that carpenter and Lipkin studied show, telltale signs of injury, among these were stress fractures, which must have re healed in life. So, what does this mean well? According to carpenter? The fore limbs were subjected to a great deal of repetitive stress, which was not uniform or steady, instead there were moments of extraordinarily great force applied to the arms. The likely explanation is that t rex used its fore limbs to grab hold of large struggling prey, a plus sized thrashing victim could easily fracture the carnivores, wishbone, or at least tear a few arm. Arm Muscles loose other ideas about the purpose of T.. REX arms have nothing to do with subduing victims. One School of thought involves naptime perhaps after a good night's sleep. Taran disorders use those arms to push itself up off the ground, or maybe they had a sexier function. Henry Fairfield Osborn the paleontologist who named the species back in nineteen o five believed that males used their four limbs to grab hold of their mates as Holtz and others have admitted. There simply isn't enough evidence at this time to conclusively refute or verify any of these notions, such is often the nature of paleontology.

Her Name Was Sandy Guardiola

"You ready to talk about what happened to me or do you need a moment or no? Absolutely so on? So to start October fourth twenty seventeen is a day on. I can never forget me. Personally I was living in Brooklyn at the time, I, just started working as a carpenter in the union. I went to work I got home. Ottesen with my grandfather, her father at the time in Brooklyn I got a call. And It's A. Have you heard from your mother? And I said no when I was like why and she's like something's going on so I start looking into I started trying to call her caller caller on nothing. No answer no answer. And I'm sitting in my room. In Brooklyn for about four hours. eight o'clock comes I still haven't heard from her. On talking to my sister I'm talking to my uncle and you know we're ready to go upstate. Because she was living in upstate New York at the time she was working. With New, York, State Parole 'cause. She went back into the law. Enforcement Field to To get her years onto to get her pension and retire, so she was upstate New York. We're getting ready to drive. I'll never forget I I went to the subway. To to go to my uncles, so I got up in his car with the draft together. And my sister calls me to screaming crying. It happened. It happens. She's dead. She's dead and I just dropped to my knees in in the subway station and I couldn't believe it so. I'm. We go to my sister's in the Bronx. We pick her up and she tells us that state police came to her house and Saturday down and told her that. My mom was. Sitting in her living room with her gone her service weapon. Pointed to her head. And that they tried talking her out of it. But it didn't work out and that she ended up shot and. So from there we drive upstate seven hours. We drive through the night. We got upstate and we go straight to the more, so we could go see urine. Identify her and they didn't allow us that we. We were told that there was an investigation. Yada Yada we, we have to go to state police state that countless identifier. Okay so now we just take. We're we're. In such grief than so many emotions. You know we don't even. We just went through the next step, so we go to say police. Up there and you know we're trying to find out what have been you know. Everything that's going on before you know it. We're all separated and they're asking US questions. Why did she move upstate What does she want to do here? So looking back at it? It was it was like trying to find dirt on her like they're trying to. Interrogate us to find out. You know why. She was in their area and You. Know at the time again. You not too many emotions even even comprehend what was going on and then from the state police. We go to the apartment where you know. She was shot. We walk, in. And Her bed. was. Not there. Her mattress was missing. There is a sheets there with blood. And one bullet hole through her window. and. You know. Again you know going through the motions. We don't realize we're into a crime scene that you know we should have even been there. We should've. Right, away gotten someone attorney you know. Eventually we did, but at that time we should've right away. Made that move so that we conduct their own investigation, but that didn't happen. There was so many emotions going on, so that was that day. But then you know. Over time we find out the story. So a welfare check was called on my mother, she didn't show up for work that day. She was supposed to go back to work that day after being in a car accident exactly one month prior to that day, and through our you know our lawyers investigations. Something happened with her paperwork, and she wasn't able to show up for work, and we don't even know to this day if she had showed up for work or not, and the crazy part about the welfare check is that it came from the Rochester Parole Office And while she was on medical leave, she was transferring from the Rochester. Parole Office to the Binghamton Parole Office because what we find out later as she was doing with harassment in Rochester, something happened with her supervisor where her supervisor and her didn't get along that supervisor one that cold in the welfare check on her on that day, the officer that responded to the welfare check. He arrived at her residence on. He didn't get an answer at the door. He went to apartment management where they granted him access to give them a key fob. And this is all unwarranted. they was never a an emergency call given to me or my sister. You know her emergency contacts. We never received a call. You know to say you know something's wrong. Can you please check on my mother that never happened? So they grant themselves access to the apartment. Then when they get in, there's another closed door her bedroom door. They let themselves into the bedroom door and from there. For whatever reason? Something happened I. Don't know if there was a an exchange. I, don't know what happened. We still don't know the facts of what exactly happened to that day. There's only two people that know the answers to what happened that officer at my mother and my mother is here to tell her side of the story. But anyways. We don't know what happened. What we know is that she was shot three times once in her head once in her arm once in abdomen. While laying in bed.

'One Of The Best Nature Shows': A River Transformed After Dams Come Down

"Maine. Every year. Dozens of aging dams are removed from US rivers, and that can bring dramatic transformations downstream. Murray Carpenter takes us to Canada Back River in Maine where the federal government ordered the removal of a large dam two decades ago to see what happens when a river is allowed to run free. Along the Best Cook River, the first thing you'll notice or the birds. Eagles are everywhere waiting on gravel bars and chattering from the trees. Old Bunch of birds there they're bald. Eagles those are all bald eagles. That's conservationist Steve Brooke who began pushing for dam removals in the Nineteen Ninety S as I'm looking down the Sebastian River I see. The number of Bald Eagles flying. Catching fish from the river, the heat themselves their family, when Brooke and others began talking about getting rid of the dam on the back and another on this tributary, many mainers didn't see the point. There were hints of this Sebastian Cooks former productivity, three thousand year, old fish traps built by the walkie people were found in an upstream lake. But Brooks has many had never seen a large river system in its natural state in the Pacific. They're restoring rivers because they still have runs of Pacific Salmon here on the East Coast, the rumors have been dammed since the seventeenth century, and so it's very hard for people to understand what's missing part of what's missing for many northeast rivers L. Wives. The half-pound herrings up from the ocean despite? Now in some places it looks like this river is paved with the fish just like in historical accounts from before the industrial revolution, the expression as you could walk across the river on the backs of fish, and it looks like you could, because it's solid fish all the way across, and all the way downstream for as far as you can see gail, whipple Hauser is a biologist with Maine's department of Marine Resource. She says After the dams came down, fisheries managers helped the fish over dams further up river. And the alewife population exploded. The increase was just amazing. From four hundred thousand to like a million and three million five million. Just amazing now the Sebastian Cook has the nation's largest run, avail wives and blueback herring. There's even a commercial harvest mostly for lobster Bait. And other migratory Fisher using the river like striped. Bass Shad Lamp. Ray and Dave Scott lives nearby and is fished along the river for nineteen years. Sometimes, he just puts his rod down and watches rate about two miles from my house is one of the best nature shows just come down hit. Relax sometimes just to watch the birds. And there are lots of birds flying. One Hundred Ninety Eagles recounted along the river in mid. June Steve Brooks says the Sebastian Cook shows what could happen elsewhere when other Dan's come out to bring back free flowing rivers and wild native fish.

Entrepreneurs aim to remove carbon pollution from the air

"Carbon emissions from power plants, transportation and industry caused global warming by reducing that pollution may not be enough to avoid the worst effects of climate change. Some scientists say the world must also remove carbon. That's already in the atmosphere. Jonah amador is. Co Founder of the nonprofit carbon one eighty, she says a number of industries already have strategies to soak up carbon pollution. We can farm in ways that store more carbon in the soil weaken plant more trees in there also technologies that are basically big fans that use chemical reactions to capture carbon directly from the air and separate at out into a pure stream of co two that can then be either sequestered underground or used in products like cements and plastics. But to meet climate goals, these solutions need to scale up dramatically. To Help, amador's nonprofit has started a fellowship it helps entrepreneurs launch businesses that within a decade can remove a billion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere each year. We. Think that visionary leaders and entrepreneurs can really have a hand in scaling these carpenter mobile solutions.

Adding Overhangs

"The House my wife and I bought last. Fall is an unusual cape in that it has a fairly deep overhangs on the front and back the shake citing the front and back under the overhangs is in very good shape but the shake siding on the gable ends where overhangs is in terrible condition and needs to be replaced. My wife and I would like overhangs on the gable ends before replacing the siding to give the new siding the same protection as the front and back so our question is twofold. The first part is a design question. Hello Kylie can we add overhangs without making the house? Look stupid so let's let's go there Kylie. What do you think? Can we put things on this? You know I'm still struggling with this. Because the functionality of the overhangs is undeniable in fact just before he said this the day before I had sent a message to Matt saying I think over the solution to everything. We need big fat overhangs. It's true. Yeah it's not in keeping with the Cape style but at the same time. He's got pretty significant overhangs on the rest of his house. I don't know I'm struggling. Because of the function is I support that and then again when he adds those overhangs his house is GonNa look pretty top heavy because of that big fat pedals in the Front So I don't have. I don't have a strong opinion. One is I just can't decide. Let's dig into the rest of this question and then maybe it'll be become clear. We add the overhangs. Only at the top of the gable end or should we also wrapped overhang from the front and back around the gable ends between the first and second floor so this house has a little tiny dorm or on the front and he wants to know if if the new gable overhang should return around this little tiny gable on the front what you would call that a gable wasn't referred to that or maybe it is kind of a strange wounds from the half from the house. It's almost as if they took a porch and just put a hybrid between a porch roof and gable and and a gable dormer. It's it's kind of a strange. We've been getting a lot of unique houses that are of that I've ever seen anything like before. This is with big fat overhangs. What you guys listening should go to the website and take a look at this House Very Little House. I. It's difficult to explain and shoot as heck. It is heck Character the second question is structural. How do you add overhangs to an existing house without them falling off? Is this a matter of needing lots of structural screws or lag bolts or were visible support? Brackets be required. We realized that adding overhangs would acquire a new roof. But for your article. If we want to control their Istan prins we need a new roof anyway. Thank you Adam. Are He says? I'd like another sticker. Many can get. I want to try and compete with Barbara for the largest collection. She probably only has one. You know the stickers have been on lockdown for weeks now so I promise you all when I can get back in the office if you email me I will. I will send the backlog of stickers I owe you all. I got an even bigger surprise. The only stay tuned to the end of the show today. Because it's going to blow your mind anyway back to this question way to stay tuned. Adam. I Love Your House. I think you're going to screw it up if you put overhangs on the Gables and honestly the siding for the age of the House is in pretty darn good shape man Adamant were corresponding I. I shared his emails with you guys yesterday right and and we talked a little bit. About how much money he has to spend on this and frankly I don't think he's going to be able to add relation to put insulation layer on the roof. Get a new roof and put these overhangs on for the amount of money he has to Adam. Your House has what are called as strateg- straighted shingles strategy ingles and you can actually buy these things on Amazon. I would be really tempted to take this on yourself and because frankly for the amount of money you have. I don't think you're GonNa get all this work done right and you know as far as getting a contractor to put installation on your house. It's not very big but people tend to charge a lot of money for that and I don't know exactly why it's not all that complicated but it's just something people don't do a lot of and finding a contractor. Who's willing to do that kind of work we've talked about is is challenging. Right Rahm. Yeah I mean it's you know it's becoming more and more common. People are becoming more educated about it but as I would still think a majority of people are of the the average local contractor man. I can't really speak for the country but it certainly is in no every house ever especially insulation retrofits as a couple of things one. It's hard to justify the the investment especially on a complicated exterior where you have a lot of strange Seems in and flashing details. This house is not that though. This is a very simple form- at you know. It lends itself well to well with all of this with overhangs and the dorms and stuff. It could get pretty complicated. But but the point is it's it's it's hard to justify the amount of work Especially if you're on a tight budget to do all that stuff I mean I. I'm the first person to say that that adding overhangs I would never build a house without a reasonable overhang and As much as I like modern aesthetics I think the the benefit of protecting the siding is worth it but in a situation where you're you're siding is in reasonably good shape focus more on things like I noticed that his siding roofing on doors is too close to the shingles and they they recommend to inch gaps there which a lot of people don't like look of but if you want the shingles to last you gotta keep them up off of the you're talking to side while shingles if you want deciding to last. You have to keep it up off the roof because it's waking up water yes and an. You should definitely prime the ends of those and they all need to be cut right because they have to be caught on an angle. So when you're done cutting gotta make sure those are primed and as rob suggests if you keep it up two inches that's best keeping it up. Any amount is better than none. Yes so I think you know I deal with this so much with my old houses that you gotta have to kind of pick your battles sometimes because there's an ideal scenario if money was no object but there's also reasonable compromises to get a comfortable house that you can afford to live in. I would like to add that. Adam was worried about doing this work. Because it's up high on you know let I was very very fearful of heights when I started out as a carpenter and the secret for me is having good staging having good equipment to work off can trust things you know. We'RE NOT GONNA fall down right maybe rent pipe staging from supplyhouse or. Maybe you buy aluminum poles and sell them. When you're done just have good gear and waking working up at height shouldn't be any different than working on the

"Uncut Gems" Actor: Keith Richards.

"Me Keith Richards. My next guest performance in uncut gems was one of the best of two thousand nine hundred thousand nine his legendary character. Phil will live on and movie infamy. He was one of the most ruthless and raw village and cinematic history. Please welcome Keith Richards key. Thank you so much for being on the show today so I don't know man. I never say this to people. I really don't but I feel like your life anybody's life could be a movie but I feel like your life could be a movie that people would wanNA see us. Something funny said that because basically Hollywood sometimes down the street because yes I have. I have a story. There's no question about it you know after the movie I was like there's one guy I wanted to interview. I said I have to speak with. I have to talk to Keith. And you were so kind to really communicate with me and follow through so I thanked you off air. I will thank you on here to thank you again. Keith. I appreciate everything you enjoy as. Well thank you. You know the fact that this is. Your first acting. Job is astonishing to me. It's maybe the most unbelievable thing I've seen almost two hundred interviews. You're you're like a natural at this. Well you know. I you know the the guy that I was acting alone. Or who is acting alongside? Nation is Shay Tommy to call me. He had said and he's very right guys like him and I We Act lives. You know We just didn't get into degrees walking away with our life or one piece was our degree you do. When you're in Rome you do as the Romans you know this you know. Take it to make it all these things. Come to mind when I think of a bit of school of hard knocks. If you will you know it's it's you know. I I look at you know most actors that I interview they go looking for acting but in your case. Keith. It's just the opposite acting came looking for you is. That's that's a correct statement right happening and it's funny too because it was all in the same area over by Tompkins Square Park on down by Mary. Street and those areas For some reason everywhere I went. Somebody asked me. Are you an actor? Would you like to act? I think it was topped square. That's right by West one. I think we've seen eighty nine. It was a short Sean Penn. Movie I don't know what they wanted me to do. They just asked me. If I like Sean Penn and of course I do and I show people think I look like him and they left. I left and I almost did. It seem like came by and says what are you crazy. We've been running from cameras a whole life. Now you've got to run into it so that was the end of that and We went away and they went away. But I've been asked three or four times Never stuck to the point because it just I just didn't feel right. I feel like a you know. I just ignored it but this time I was the first avenue and Fourteenth Street and at the time I was approached I was also looking to find something new to do because you know I was. I was found. It was a carpenter and I went down in the first towel down and I got sick and I can no longer do the work I used to do. So after beating all of that and get through all of that nonsense I not the Kinda guy to sit around so it was perfect. Timing and Michelle. Mone saw and they convinced me they say come on. Just do just prove US wrong because I told them I. I don't think it's Nelson a you know I've been asked before but it's not for me. She shouldn't aren't you a little curious and she was right so I went and I did that and they proved me wrong. And you're walking towards I think the L. train right and they kind of said I wish standing while I was walking toward trade. I felt somebody somebody looking at. I was like Oh my God some kind of bite me in the tail. What could it be? Could it be standing? Stop alongside the train station and a cigarette and it's funny. Because I was just try I was was quitting at the time and I just said to hell with it just have one and I waited and I turned to my left and there was this girl. Lucre and I looked and she asked me you an actor and that's when she said yes. I know you looking around. I follow you. She said she was following me for a couple of bucks when she went into view about you know example tell started when you hear that story about you know because that happens to other actors but it never works out like it worked for you. It always works out horribly right. They say. Do you want to be an actor and it's always a nightmare story about you know some kind of awful. You know what I'm saying situation and your case it worked out really well. You

"No carpenter. Just give me a goat. Actually doing it will be burned myself a really into this role. I used to do this all the time. Don't worry I'm ready for this. I mean like we said this is kind of Daniel Bolton's biggest role anyway. I can imagine him throwing himself into it again. It's carpenter James Woods. The known quantity totally So Woods and the Padre Padre get to this hotel. James Woods immediately. Hits this guy with the phone which is fucking great But this is where basically exploring the link between this dude. Valich is the Namion valley and Katrina. We see him bucket decapitate. This priest again pretty decent special effect. Yeah and this is when I start falling asleep to be honest. Well this is the mystery unfolding definitely the that is unfolding as valid is trying to find this special cross that was from Old Europe. That's now buried in the southwest in order to complete the ritual to make him like a day walker. An immortal vampire that is not affected by this fucking break. The Cross and half put half Europe half in fucking South America. Call it a day but it's a show us the people it's the thing. The thing is known was as smart as Stephen. Saint in the Catholic Church. No I don't think they had other things in mind at the 'cause I paid attention. So the the the cross it was used in the ceremony that turned. Valich from a a priest who was like working with the poor he became like a Bohemians. They say And and they tried to like it was like a botched exorcism and the early reverse X. Or something to that effect and they turned him into in doing this and it was a frame job. Because just because he was helping the poor They turned him into a vampire and this will turn him into the vamp like the best vampire. We'll right because he's a master who can also walk during the day. So essentially. He'll be unstoppable. It was just another whoopsie daisy by the Catholic church in a long line of would absolutely dude. I have to deal with the problem now. Let's not to think of what we did. Let's just do. What would cabinet? Is that right though that they say that they did this? Reverse exorcism on this. Because he was helping the poor yeah he became like Heat in that little Maximilian Shell thing. It becomes a revealed he was like he became. Bohemian and he was like I believe in all of you know God's children deserve everything like it was an equality guy in they're like well fuck that. Shit and they Put a detail right so valiquette was cool with like same sex marriage back that who knows. Listen listen listen anything resembling communist values. You get turned into a vampire that is rule number one rule number two. You molest kids. Use Sons of pitches. We are GONNA move you to a different church at. It's GonNa be really annoying and keep paying. You gotTA keep getting paid. What is Bohemian? Even mean is like always aligned to the HABSBURG crown checklist Avakian or is he just like a hip though. I think it means that that word that James Woods used earlier in the film six. Yeah Yikes so like now. They're they know what he's after so they have to find what he's where he's going in the pre black cross were also told is the the Bercy Cross. There's this other big scene where he aware of Alec actually gets the Bercy Cross. It's kind of hilarious. It's outside of looks like a Franciscan kind of monastery kind of thing. And it's all these vampires who were told our masters wake up and it's like six to eight different people men and women coming out of the dirt like with their eyes closed their magical man. I got one guy like with both eyes open. He's looking for. I worked broader. My mouth are horrible. I did it again. Laura Palmer this kind of reminded me of David Lynch ride like in the in the new twin peaks with those dirt Mun. Jackie is yet totally man. Getting late. Dude I love I honestly the scene of the vampires storming this monastery dude. These guys are like sitting ducks to these vampires. They're just you get a whole sequence of them like just being slade by these all these monks being thrown and ripped apart. It's not bad it's not bad there's one deed it's Kinda great 'cause there's one guy who's clearly just like pushed over but his robes like land on something that's on fire at this dude just starts cooking up this monks just on fire. It's all the pyrotechnic work in this movie phenomenal. It's pretty. It's a great man. It's a grade and the real problem with his movies. They're so cold on these footsteps for so long. Yes it is a lot of just playing catch up. I mean 'cause like when When the team gets to the monastery you know everybody's long gone so long gone that they're putting in the sound of like flies buzzing around so these dudes are now just like rotting. That's how long they're byline these vampires the whole trying to get Laura Palmer to like see what vallecas up to through the psychic link. They see like oh he's GonNa get the cross because there's the map and he kills Father Malina so then we just go to a church and that Father Molina presided over. And it's just like talk. Newest state trooper just feels like padding. Yeah this this cop character in that priests in that priests church is hilarious because James. Woods is like yeah. We're going around the country investigating hate crimes on Catholic people. Do you mean that. They're doing the heat backwards right. That's okay yeah go this way. It's kind of a funny exchange though because the COP is like. Oh now wait a second all right any new information you get. You'RE GONNA share it with US right. James Woods is like yeah because they mistake him for like fed. I guess now he's he's straight up says he's working for the Catholic Church. It is amazing. Like all right. This way worked for the Catholic Church. I don't know man. How about the fucking federal government steps in the Catholic Church? Okay cool wait outside fuck head get the fuck Outta here crash. A Sheriff I. Do you have any quote Unquote Vampires? You need me to kill you know. We got a little bit of payments to me if you had some quote Unquote Vampires de ray rent stabilized. Apartments could take care of those quarter-on-quarter Vampires. You Know Kevin. You just reminded me. There is a thing in that opening motel scene. Where Mark Boone Junior and some other dude are trying to impress the sex workers By saying that their vampire hunters and it brought to mind like this is still a world where vampires or not a known thing right yes it is still a mystery kind of thing so I feel like why are they telling people 'cause well it'd be let's be honest. The Catholic Church doesn't keep its about shut leaks out before this is Iraq. Yeah they were also getting their rocks off and I feel like it's like whatever like we tell we've stepped on the Moon. Man Yes share. That's true so it. So this other padre at this dude from a hell on wheels Roy a favorite. Yes Guinea course. My my absolute favorite. This guy was in late seat. What was the actor's name again to ten Guinea? Yes that might be a slur but yes we we accept it played in Helen Wheels. He didn't really emerge towards the later seasons. I think like three through five or so where he kinda played like a check to Sir Thomas Durant of course. Of course Thomas. Durant is doing the expansion out west making the railroad. The thing is this guy is doing it from the other way. And this when the show finally decides to address the whole Chinese labor of creating the the Railroad. It took them three seasons to address that. Yeah Yeah I well. We're not GONNA get a four season. So why don't we do something worth a damn like? The first two seasons are show was very much like were in Kansas. Okay we're just hanging out cans Gotcha Gotcha Gotcha this guy. A player in one of my favorite law and orders. He's one of those guys who killed his wife His like his girlfriend her daughter and their employer and then like act like seduced. Everybody like the not his lawyer the jury and everybody like because he's such a nice guy really. It's a really good episode. If you can find it it's it's a og law and order Geelani Order. Love me some. Ojea law and order. Ooh Oh wow you speak in vampires. I just noticed. In Twenty Sixteen. There was a show that started. Which according to this is how wheels and now. It's a show called Van helsing. Oh yes there you gotta shorter. Yeah I believe. It's on the SCIFI network. People love shows that like nobody watches? But if you say it in a room with more than one hundred People Twenty Hulu. Hey you know what? Oh Yeah Vanessa. Helsing distant relative of famous vampire. Hunter Abraham van helsing. Oh so it's like modern day. Oh I don't know everybody. I'm looking at this picture dude. With Horn people are tweeting. You right now in real time by arts. What wait for. She's three. It gets really good. Sure it's sexy is fuck folks from these promo photos. Steam punk kitties out is it. Steam pockets deemed bug. I'm in I might be. It looks kind of a little actually so I don't even know like they kind of just show up at this town. They lay siege on this town That's where he he has taken the large cross to do the ritual. San Tiago is the name of the town and I guess I guess they. It's actually another interesting thing that I wish I could see is they realize like the whole town is gone. And they're either dead or have been turned into Vampires and James. Woods is basically like all right so you know he has been working on this for a long time. He's been working on taking out this town bit by bit. So he's got this like entire town as its home base kind of all interesting. Shit. I'd Rather Watch. Yes exactly like they come. Apparently this is a movie where right before it started. They slashed the budget by two thirds. So that probably has something to do with it. Yeah that's a good call. I didn't read it. That's unfortunate but the funny thing is even for a slashed budget. I mean thankfully. They kept so much of it in you know. Just the production value of the special effects goes don't look cheap carpenter doesn't do movies that look cheap. I mean like find me one like on any budget. He'll find to make it look like something goes the. Mars actually is probably the worst. It's the most. Cgi you see him us. I think I will say though that I think The what the Fuck. The Twenty ten movie award. The Ward is cheap. Only the sense of like you can tell by like the quality of the digital camera that he's using to make the movie. Looks very cheap. Know what Netflix. Gift John. Carpenter movie if fucking does make a fucking movie. I don't know man. I saw him in concert which ruled by the way. I think he's just kind of happy smoking pot with his son he might very music and just doesn't WanNa do shit. There might be. Yeah I totally I. Totally feel. His quote was when The the new Halloween came out. And they're like Oh. Are you excited about this new Halloween Blizzard? I'm excited that. They paid me like they consulted him. But it wasn't very much like yeah. I get consulted because they get fucking paid and that's cool because I'm John Carpenter. I'm one hundred years old and I'm just hanging out well back to nine hundred ninety eight So John Just about to sign contract over for a seventy million dollars to make this vampire movie with Alec Baldwin Right. Yeah Daniel Baldwin. Yeah Man. I love album. Yeah no great. What you're saying Alec do right. Yeah we're we're doing the movie with Baldwin Mary to the mobs Alec Baldwin Right Yeah. Mojo technically can't get mad at me because I said a Baldwin was circling the role So they're gearing up to take this down this town of goons they realize the safest place all these vampires to be sleeping during the days in this jail which I guess has like multiple floors below it or all. The cells are something that we really don't see a lot of this jail. There's a lot of elevator business and I'm like what? What are we spending so much time on this elevator? Down Point for me a lot to fuck this whole we gotta do this. Elevator Action Bullshit. Great game totally. Great Game But this is I noticed it at the beginning of the movie but this is where I finally made the note about it. Dudes James Woods fucking fake as fuck crossbow..

You're a sexy person for the rest of your life first of all. I've never been a sexy person so I think becoming a vampire would make me sexy life changing and death changing is what you have to become an expert in capes. Yeah like you need to know which one for which kind of night. It's it's a lot of stuff to although these are terribly sexy. Well that's the thing about this movie and why I will say a print i. I didn't see this in the theaters but I have seen this movie. Probably close to twenty times. Because I can't remember. It was a thing where I had it on like the early days a DVD or if it was like taped off of HBO or something this was a big TBS TNT here. I remember that Song this movie. Somehow I've never last night to change opinion. You're never got into it. I never saw it in full. I only saw parts of it and then are watching today. I realized why because I had to bail. Because a really drags at a certain point. Yeah and for a movie. That's a hundred and eight minutes to that's unfortunate because it's such a contained story but you know it's very simple like we have to do this before this time and then that's it it's GonNa be like we are dragging ass. I will say I wasn't the one thing about this movie is. I actually was never bored. I this movie does not bore me. It's just stupid as all hell by the hair dye. Well also I mean it's Tommasi in Griffith. Talking yes transient. I just look at him. Chris I want to run something by you. I wrote down in my notes. I came up with an alternate title for this from Dusk. Till don't I think we should workshop at a little bit but I think it's a good starting place is I'm GonNa crack a beer. It's the apocalypse gus. This we should start drinking on the air. You're right Oh already drinking. I've been drinking This owes a lot to do from dusk till dawn. That's a really good point. There's no doubt about it. I mean it's like what I was GonNa say was it's Oh why kind of appeal to me is because I don't think I saw from dust on until much later that's the but it's a movie where I was just so fascinated by scumbag vampire. Yeah because that's what this is. These are scumbag vampire hunters hunting scumbag vampire look the see the script and move. It was supposed to be filmed in. Nineteen ninety-four Industrial Donald. Supposed to come out the same time but there was fucking four years of negotiations between James Woods and Daniel Baldwin about gets to say bitch the most. It went on for four years. And they're like we're going to top it out at seven hundred You meet Jimmy. I need I need to take the Crown Jimmy idea. Here's the thing though about that car because Steve. You mentioned something similar yesterday when you're watching it about them saying bitch all the time so I was. I'm Bitch Watch when was screening at today. The first bitch does not happen until like fifty two minutes into the movie but from there have Occa- you get a fucking plug from the dam. And the weirdest thing is I think that carpenter is a misogynistic director. Like he's do director in terms of like he's done movies that are mostly centered around man Cetera. But like women are either like done justice or not. But like it's not like this is like a straight up misogynistic vampire movie but why that is though is a damn quits. Well yeah but I think what they're doing here is like oh it's fine because she's a monster or but then the thing is the way to fix that part of this movie. Is You make this priest character. The second priest he needs to be a woman. It's a nun and now we're doing something sure. Yeah that's a good call. What is a super none who could hold the screen like Tim? Guinea though Bayou Back Theory by the way folks I went on a week a pedia this and there was a little thing about this movie was almost and I think this was like when carpenter wasn't involved but it was almost dolph lundgren with Willem Defoe as possibly the vampire banner movie up at a movie better movie..

"Twice horrified. Stephen tried to escape but he couldn't move fast enough carpenters shot. Stephen twice fled the scene leaving the couple for dead but the trailside killers work was getting sloppy. Normally Carpenter prided himself on his ability to operate with precision killing his victims carefully so he had full control over their last breaths. A hasty murder like this was a far cry from his other killings as Z.. Typically preferred secluded emptier trails in this case multiple witnesses saw him that day as carpenter fled the scene. Several all people at the observation tower reported a suspicious man running out of the park. They described him in detail to police as a bald unassuming man with a slender billed and a pair of glasses. Surprisingly some of the most crucial testimony came from a ten year old girl as has carpenter rushed to his vehicle parked just outside of the camping grounds. The girl noticed suspicious of his frantic manner. She grabbed a nearby piece of cardboard Lord and sketched as best. She could the scene before her a man escaping at a small boxy red car but it it was the final report that was most damning of all from one of the victims. Stephen hartill miraculously after being rushed to the hospital title. He survived the brutal attack. Post Surgery Stephen was unable to speak but was determined to help however we could patiently using nonverbal communication police and a sketch artists were able to create a detailed composite. The rendition matched the testimony of the other hikers. The killer wore a ball cap glasses and had a slender build. The sketch was released to the public and printed in several local newspapers. Almost immediately police received a tip via a hotline. A local woman recognized the sketch. She said the man's name was David Carpenter. Her and that she'd met him several years prior on a cruise ship. She noted his stutter and claimed he made awkward advances towards both her and her daughter however there were several David carpenters living in the San Francisco Bay area than police while closer still could not narrow down their search coach. The sketch continued to run locally and to authorities hoped someone who might know more would provide them with a tip but potential tipsters weren't the only the ones reading the newspapers carpenter was too and he was growing anxious. He grew a beard and changed his appearance as best he could God. He also hoped that his new more stable life would help him continue to avoid suspicion he was now living with his parents and working in a warehouse. A parolee with a history of sex offenses carpenter. Had A hard time finding work he was legally barred from working in a facility with women. The the new warehouse job made it. Seem like he was a respectable man trying to reenter society for the first time in a while he felt like he looked normal mall but working with men did nothing to temper his sick and violent fantasies he soon turned his attentions next door to the warehouse to a print shop owned owned by the same company. Several women worked there. one of whom was named Heather Roxanne's Skaggs Skaggs was a twenty year. Old recent high school graduate graduate and carpenter heard. She was in the market for a car on May. First Nineteen eighty-one Carpenter approach skaggs. She was a young and kind and he felt drawn to her carpenter. told her that he'd heard about her car shopping and claimed he knew of a great bargain. Not Too far away. He offered to drive for over to take a look at the vehicle during their conversation carpenter emphasized to skaggs that she should go alone. He encouraged her to keep the location. The vehicle a secret and not to mention who she was going with skaggs accepted the offer and the two left but unbeknownst a carpenter skaggs hadn't blindly trusted his word. Her boyfriend was suspicious of carpenter after all he was an older creepy co worker. Who seemed far far too interested in skaggs just to be safe? Heather's boyfriend told her that if she failed to return home by seven. PM He'd report her missing to the police went wins. Seven o'clock came and went he frantically made the call. Police began their investigation. Swiftly by finding out who the last person person was to see heather her boyfriend and Co workers were quick to point him out David Joseph Carpenter up next. We'll investigate the final undoing of the trailside killer now back to the story by the spring of nineteen eighty one fifty one year old David Joseph Carpenter had murdered ten people dubbed the trailside killer he usually sought out his victims on the hiking trails surrounding San San Francisco but after increased scrutiny from the police carpenter changed his methods. He invited Heather skaggs to go. Look at a car for sale with him. When skaggs gags didn't return home that night? Her boyfriend called police. The I suspect on their list was the last person to see skaggs alive as soon soon as authorities arrived at David Carpenters House. They couldn't help it become even more suspicious once he opened the door. Police noticed the startling ordering resemblance carpenter had to a sketch of the trailside killer printed just a few months prior even just his name made them wary. David Carpenter was the exact name given by a woman calling a hotline about the killer. The final clue sat just in the driveway. Detectives took a hard look at carpenter's car. A Red Boxy Fiat. It was just like the one a ten year old witness had described the day. The killer last struck police quickly consulted with carpenters. Parole officer who confirmed that he could very well be a suspect in Heather's disappearance terrence they also double check their records and confirmed carpenters name and profile had been accidentally left out of suspect lists for the previous trailside murders. Police took carpenter to the station and questioned him about his relationship with heather skaggs but he refused to answer when pressed a carpenter. Reportedly started stuttering so terribly but he couldn't speak at all. The interrogation continued for hours eventually turning to carpenters background and childhood. When speaking about his early life carpenter sounded full of bitterness and resentment he mentioned the dance classes he had been forced to take as a child and another investigator shared that he too had taken dance when he was young this resonated with carpenter in some way as he sat in a sudden cold silence after a moment he stood from his chair? Move to the middle of the interrogation room and began to dance he. He completed some of the traditional ballet positions calling them out as he remembered them I position second position and so on as unnerving as has the performance was many of carpenter's other answers. Were even more suspicious. Often he told blatant lies to detectives or was Dodgy Gee about important details including his whereabouts on the days of the murders at the end of his questioning. Carpenter reportedly turned to authorities. He's referring to Heather skaggs. He said I pray to God. No one finds her body and finds that she's been raped with these haunting words. Police police were itching to make an arrest but in the hopes of building a stronger case they let carpenter go for a week. They put him under surveillance since secretly watching his every move hoping he would lead them to more evidence after a week when no new evidence emerged they they decided it was time to officially make the arrest. They surrounded carpenters home guns at the ready prepared for assistance but when an officer knocked on the door Oren explained a carpenter that he was under arrest. He surrendered quietly even so the horror wasn't over yet. Barely one week had passed. Authorities received another call about the trailside killer. A pair of hikers had gone for a walk in big basin redwoods woods state park located near San Jose when they smelled something disgusting coming through the trees they followed the scent and found rapidly rapidly decomposing body. Investigators quickly identified the body as Heather skaggs carpenters ninth victim. Her body was discovered verdon shallow grave covered in dirt and leaves. She'd been assaulted and shot just like the others. After this discovery police put carpenter are in a lineup. Stephen Hartill the trailside killers only surviving victim. Positively identified carpenter as the man who murdered murdered. His girlfriend months later when carpenter appeared before a judge he reportedly showed no emotion at all at first. But it's calm demeanor suddenly changed when the judge estimates first question is your name true. As stated according to those in the courtroom that day carpenter contorted noted his face away from the judge and jury. He shook his head and stuttered so horribly he couldn't remain still after a few moments. He was finally able the answer. Yes on May Eighteenth nineteen eighty eight fifty eight-year-old David. Joseph Carpenter was officially convicted. You did for the killings of Richard Stars. Cynthia Moreland Shauna may Diana O'CONNELL and an Alderson. He was also found guilty. Not on two counts of rape and one count of attempted. Rape Carpenter was sentenced to be executed now. Almost ninety he remains on death. Throw to this day with the trailside killer safely locked away. The sickening attacks ended and the parks and trails in the San Francisco. Enciso Bay area opened up again since then. The city has been free of the nightmare that haunted it for years but many still still remember the monster but once lurked on the paths stalking victims in broad daylight and dragging them helplessly into.

The bodies of victims were left either kneeling on the ground lying face down or otherwise posed into a submissive position. After after the most recent discoveries the trails of San Francisco were deserted residents and locals were afraid to leave their homes but for the first this time police finally had a piece of traceable evidence the bullets used in all four of the point. "So when a stranger thanks Kyle Carpenter for his service as a US Marine. He's pretty automatic. Reply is you are worth it. Enlisting in the Marine Corps in two thousand nine he served for more than a year in Helmand province Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom when he and his fellow marines came under attack and in act of extraordinary sacrifice he threw to himself on a grenade to save those around him regaining consciousness briefly and realizing the extent of his injuries he drifted back into unconsciousness snus just a few moments later and was pretty sure he was taking his last breath and thankfully he was wrong. Kyle woke up five weeks later at Walter Reed Hospital where where he would learn that large parts of his face in his head and his right arm had been destroyed a needed to be largely reconstructed and he would have a long road road to recovery. Still he was alive and grateful now the youngest living recipient of the US military's highest honor. The Medal of honor in today's conversation in college shares. This extraordinary journey. His deep sense of service is love of people family. His Fellow Marines. What happened on that? Fateful Day along with his years as long road to rehabilitation not just physically but emotionally and spiritually his reclamation of life and hope and the legacy of kindness and service that he's working working to build along with his desire to help inspire people to really embrace life. "Students learn apprentice and journeyman training for carpenter's mill rights pile drivers interior exterior specialists scaffold directors, drywall finishers, and trade. So exhibit workers, I am here with Rosa Gomez, a student and officed at the school. Her unique perspective allows her to you the schools, both administrator and a student, and she's going to share those experiences with us Rosa. Thank you so much for taking some time and discussing the p. NCI with us. Thank you for having me very excited. Now it you mentioned that you were a student through the school as well? Yes, I applied for their apprenticeship program to become a carpenter. And so you working here, do you do that part time or do your you doing that instead of being a carpenter? So yes, I went through the program and I got up to it is eight terms and I got up to my fourth term. So halfway through the program, I ended up switching over to work for the school because of a lot of. The skills that I attained during the program and me having that background is something they were looking for. So I could help others that wanted to start that program. I could explain better of what it is to be all ready in it and what it is like to go through it and also other circumstances of my own personal choosing. So what brought you to this school? I'm sure you didn't just throw a dart you. You looked up bunch of options. What brought you here? Well, actually didn't have any idea about trades or carpentry or anything at all. I actually only thing I knew before this was what a hammer was. And fortunately for me, I met this young man, incredible that became my wife friend, and he is a carpenter, and he told me about being a carpenter and being in the union and the them paying for a trip for him to Vegas to a training center too. Learn of I, I had no idea, but then he told me he was going to some training and at says, much information gave me I, he left came back super excited and it was like my training was all about. Us recruiting and bringing more people into trade and having them earn a living wage and having a career and having everything sharing what I have sharing the knowledge and because Poland expanding and it's growing and they need more people out there in the trades in carpentry and wood and in all of these things. So I I, it sounded crazy. I was like, I have no idea what you're talking about. I've never. I've never had any kind of background of in this and he said, you don't eat anything. He said, all you need to do is is wanna try it. Give give your chance, give yourself that chance that opportunity. And if you don't like it at the end of the day, the most amazing thing about this program is you don't pay a cent. It is completely free. And I said, well, then I have nothing to lose, but my minimum wage job. So. So the entire curriculum here is free, correct. How the. The you would think there'd be a flood of students. So is there vetting program? Do students have to qualify for certain things incomes? How does a student get in here? So it is very.

"At a carpenter win sort of necessarily bags for the court to consider in this area so there are cases sort of working their way up through the system that are raising these questions because they're sort of not thought to be winnable um uh uh under the under the current legal regime so it's in the lower courts the historical cell site record cases at always have gone in favor of the government every time and you know six circuits and maybe ten different state supreme court's um so depending on the theory that the court adopts assuming there is something clear enough you're going to see litigation over i would i would guess in thousands upon thousands of criminal cases across the country challenging the record collection as being like the cell site records in carpenter you're going to have just massive amounts of of litigation uh a and course may try to avoid that with the good faith exception they'll say this record collection happened before the carpenter case and so we're we don't have to get into uh the the fourth amendment questions just on remedy grounds but it's going to immediately trigger a reef incredible amounts of litigation assuming the justice have a hard time drawing a clear line as to what is covered a not covered uh that's always been carpenters problem what's the line you're going to draw and what are the implications user think of these cells at records as part of a constellation of maybe two hundred or three hundred different kinds of thirdparty business records and if you're gonna pluck that one out which other ones do you block out and you could say we're not leo we're not gonna tell you.
